TWO ANOTHER Two Another EP 12"
Two Another present Two Another EP. "Keeping Me Under" went even further than their debut single "Higher" to cement excited intrigue with its smooth hook-laden vocals and bass line reminiscent of the Motown era. "Higher" an addictively slinky and nocturnal pop tune reminiscent of '70s soul J Dilla, is also featured here. Their third offering "Shouldn't Have Done That" presents a more stripped back and emotive element of their sound, with wistful falsetto vocals laid over an enticingly minimal beat.

ALTER EGO Rocker/Gate 23 (The Tuff City Kids Remixes) 12"
The Tuff City Kids know exactly how to juggle with different styles, until they come up with a fresh new sound that transforms an ordinary rave into an unforgettable happening. In this case they are mixing real performed kraut rock drums, '90s proto trance-balearic strings and an unexpectedly new, enthusiastic way of working with Alter Ego's trademark melody hook. Their 808 electro-remix for the track "Gate 23" is keeping to the premise of the legendary New York punk rock band The Ramones, that the music has to be the pill itself.

The three tracks here present three new and different directions, pushing Cassegrain's sound forward and showcasing their versatility. NANCE, DAVID More Than Enough CD
"David Nance lives in a world where rock has been influenced as much by This Kind of Punishment and The Pin Group as by The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones. Omaha's best-kept secret, up to now known primarily to DIY tape collectors and record club subscribers, Nance welcomes all with More Than Enough, his first full-band full-length, which follows the stellar but criminally under-heard 2013 Actor's Diary LP on Grapefruit Records, as well as a string of limited-edition, over-modulatingly intense and emotionally destructive cassette releases. Recorded in Los Angeles, scrapped, then re-recorded after a move back to his Omaha hometown with his wife, More Than Enough sounds like the very last record to have undergone any process longer than a few hours of recording. It's that immediate and on fire. The recipe: (a) get a shit-hot group of musicians; (b) cut songs down to their most "on" moments, or alternately let them ride a groove into the sun; (c) capture it all on actual tape. That's the Nance approach, and it's as much an ode to home-recorded brilliance as it is to whoop-ass inspiring rock."

DJ OVERDOSE Dead City (with Ob Ignitt remix) 12"
"On his first release for Berceuse Heroique, Rotterdam's finest DJ Overdose meets one of the strongest producers of Detroit, Mr. OB Ignitt. Overdose creates the best soundtrack for a ?march of the robots' scene with Dead City. The mighty bounce of early Dr. Dre productions meets some nasty electro carnage. On 'Sorry To Disappoint' you can hear the classic West Coast electro sound of some of his older releases mixed with some funky sci-fi synth lines. Then, OB Ignitt takes this monster of a tune and creates one of the gnarliest house tunes of this year with a proper G Funk bassline that will properly test your sound system on a good night."

MORAH Anarchy EP 12"
"Morah's first release came from Helena Hauff's Return To Disorder label and this time the Athenian producer takes the same techno and electro sound and goes completely berserk for Berceuse Heroique. Morah creates some huge waves of feedback on ?Anarchy', which sounds like a techno version of Metal Machine Music, then he takes the old school Viewlexx sound and makes it even more confrontational, on 'You Said No' and 'Impasse'. 'Looking Back' is a beautiful, melancholic - but still very dysfunctional - version of the death of a rave. One of the strongest points of this new producer is that his music sounds like the city of Athens right now: Raw energy mixed with manic depression and pessimism."

KOEHLER Rotating Rupees 12"
"Koehler returns to Berceuse Heroique with his third release for the label. 'Contra Blood' invokes the spirit of early No U Turn records, infusing some techno dynamics, creating a very interesting anthem for people who don't care about boundaries in dance music. 'Flammarion Breach' combines his classic 'ardcore techno sound with a repetitive arpeggio that recalls the tension of some of the best film scores by John Carpenter. With 'Rotating Rupees', Koehler delivers another beautiful ambient tune and this time its his ode to Zelda."

BEBEY, FRANCIS African Electronic Music 1975-1982 2LP
2016 repress; Double LP version. Cameroonian musician Francis Bebey is truly one of a kind. He entered the music scene with his African compositions for classical guitar. He gave recitals while pursuing a career in journalism and then as an international civil servant. The same creative impulse also led him to write pop songs, some of which (based on novels he had written) became big hits in Africa and in the French-speaking world. But few people know that in the '70s, Francis Bebey delved into electronic music. The first electronic keyboards, organs and drum machines offered him new possibilities of totally controlling his compositions. He embraced the technique of "sound on sound" recording (recording several tracks, sequentially juxtaposed on the same tape). This new stage in his musical career included the production of several records (Savannah Georgia, New Track, Haiti), rarities both for their creative explorations as well as their manifestations on vinyl. This was a particularly rich period for him, as he tested the limitless possibilities of the medium, and made use of surprising and novel instruments. Incredible sounds -- in the literal sense of the word -- would soon appear on the planet Bebey. Full-color printed innersleeves with notes in English and French.

NARDINI/EDDIE WARNER/ROGER ROGER, NINO Alexis Le-Tan & Jess Presents Studio Ganaro: Space Oddities (1972-1982) LP
LP version. Includes printed inner sleeve and download code. During the '60s and '70s, three distinguished old gentlemen who had built their careers playing "made in France" exotic jazz -- Roger Roger (1911-1995), Nino Nardini (1912-1994), and Eddie Warner (1917-1982) -- met every evening in the Ganaro recording studio, playing like kids with their new toys: souped-up keyboards that looked more like prototypes of spaceships to explore the Milky Way. Flying high on whimsical and joyful inspiration, the improbable trio used their strange instruments to sketch out the beginnings of something that, at that time, resembled the future of music; this set collects their productions from 1972-1982. With their library productions, Roger and Nardini made a clean break with rigid French traditions, via compositions featuring unexpected instruments like the harpsichord, marimba, and Ondioline, and, later the first analog synthesizers, oscillators, and other electronic keyboards. Nardini got deeply into musique concrète in the early '60s, as put forward by Pierre Schaeffer (who had just founded the Groupe de Recherches Musicales or GRM), popularized by Pierre Henry, and twisted by the whimsical Jean-Jacques Perrey. Roger and Nardini's Ganaro studio in Jouy-en-Josas, southwest of Paris, became the scene of magical nightly sessions of experimentation, in the company of their friend Eddie Warner. The acquisition of a Moog synthesizer brought these pioneers of electronic music to a new level. Roger Roger manufactured his own punch cards to invent new sounds. Then, in 1969, under the pseudonym of Cecil Leuter, he published the albums Pop Electronique and TVMusic 101 (with Nardini), two truly avant-garde "100% electronic" discs that anticipate the hegemony of machines in pop music, from space disco in the late '70s to the electro funk of the early '80s. The duo composed more than 40 albums (including the incredible Informatic 2000 (1982)) for specialized labels including Chappell Music, Southern Library of Recorded Music, Neuilly, L'Illustration Musicale (Eddie and Hannelore Warner's label, which published, notably, The Strange World of Bernard Fèvre in 1977), Mondiophone, Hachette, Musax, and Crea Sound Ltd. A veritable Atlantis of electronic music, rediscovered at the turn of the 21st century by electronic artists like Barry 7 of Add N to (X) with his Connectors series and Luke Vibert with his Nuggets compilations. Jess and Alexis Le Tan contributed a bit as well, digging up a few gems from "Ganaro's Nights," tracks composed with joy and humility by a merry trio of 60-somethings for whom making music was always a source of amusement and wonder.

DIE KRUPPS Stahlwerkrequiem LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. In 1981 the Düsseldorf band Die Krupps (Jürgen Engler, Bernward Malaka, Ralf Dörper) released the Stahlwerksynfonie (Steelworks Symphony), a near-30-minute musical monolith of metal and guitar sounds with scattergun saxophone and shouts, held together by a monotonic bass line and stoic beat. The Stahlwerksynfonie proved a worldwide sensation as a nucleus of EBM and industrial rock. It stood as a direct descendent of Cluster's early works, although Die Krupps mastermind Jürgen Engler was as yet unfamiliar with the output of his purported antecedents. The Stahlwerkrequiem is a 2016 version of this landmark work, recorded with Engler's kindred spirits Mani Neumeier (Guru Guru), Jean-Hervé Peron and Zappi Diermaier (Faust), Pyrolator (Der Plan), and US post-rock musician Scott Telles. Jürgen Engler picks up the tale: "Listening to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music almost every day, the Stahlwerksinfonie turned out as unconventional, radical and dark as intended, with the shows usually ending in total chaos. Mission accomplished. As I started digging deeper into the past of early 70s German Underground music in the late 80s, I discovered that there were bands who had also tried to break away from the musical past and explore the possibilities of ambience and noise, like Cluster. Their song 'Live in der Fabrik' from the 1972 album Cluster II can be called the forerunner of what was to become Industrial in the early 1980s. Had I been aware of the track in 1980, I would have probably stepped back from the idea of doing the Stahlwerksinfonie. Fortunately I did not. Many years later, in the meantime having produced records and become friends with some of the original Krautrock artists, like Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru, Jean-Hervé Peron and Zappi Diermaier of Faust, Dieter Moebius of Cluster, Chris Karrer of Amon Düül, the idea grew on me to record an all new version of the Stahlwerksinfonie. What could be more inspiring than bringing together some of those free spirited minds? . . . The sessions had the same intensity as the recording session at Can's Inner Space studio in 1981, where the original Stahlwerksinfonie was recorded. After the tracks were mixed, we brainstormed over who would be the perfect addition to the project. We immediately thought of Jean- Hervé and Zappi of Faust, and also of an old friend from early Düsseldorf Punk days, Pyrolator. He would be the missing link between early avant-garde and the later electronic Die Krupps. Full circle."

KARG, JURGEN Elektronische Mythen LP
LP version. Jürgen Karg began his music career in the 1960s as a bassist for German jazz legend Wolfgang Dauner. It was not until the 1970s that he switched his attention to electronic music, launching himself wholeheartedly into exploring the genre and building up an extensive collection of synthesizers over a five-year period. His efforts culminated in the 1977 Elektronische Mythen LP, a mighty opus of experimental music that reveals new aspects every time it is played. This is its first reissue. The technology of the system Karg had constructed, based on sequencers and four EMS synths, was state of the art for the period and promised endless variations. But this in itself came at a price; operating such a complex system posed a serious challenge to the artist, which Karg had to face all by himself. EMS systems like this were few and far between, not least because of the expense of putting the whole thing together. Hence there was little chance to compare notes with other music makers. "The track 'Die versunkene Stadt' predominantly features material from my earliest attempts at digital signal processing, you can clearly hear the sheer diversity of sounds at play," Karg explains in the liner notes. "Usable musical results were saved on tape, in some cases edited later and then mixed with the aid of several variable speed two- and four-track tape recorders and an 8-track machine." Indeed, one finds oneself listening to a highly concentrated collage distilled from years of sonic exploration. Waves swell and stand, sample-and-hold cascades blubber, bells jingle, and wonderfully slow layers loop recursively, changing their tone over a period of minutes. There is a decidedly warm and organic quality to most of the sounds -- at times sounding remarkably like piano and electric bass -- while original synthetic sounds reappear over and over in the collage. On "Vollmond Selene" Karg worked primarily with permuted sequences of ring-modulated sounds. If the music he made with Dauner was upbeat and revved-up, then Elektronische Mythen is anything but. Quite the opposite. Jürgen Karg's music is deeply serious, as vexing as a jamais vu, yet absolutely beautiful. Elektronische Mythen is an album that fits like a puzzle piece between Wendy Carlos's first and second versions of her soundtrack for A Clockwork Orange (1971).

A Sagittariun delivers the three track Oxidize EP for German label Couldn't Care More. While "Heights" is a stripped-down Basic-Channelish techno ride, rough, edgy and with a hint of hypnotic melodies, the title track heads in a quite different direction: still it's raw expressionistic techno, but the flow is ever-changing, mesmerizingly shifting and twisting between hissing beats and enlightened synths. PASSIONS Passions LP
After his initial breakcore, dubstep and electro beginnings as Math Head and Campos Verdes, Brooklyn's wunderkind Ben Deitz made his debut as Passions in 2007 with the explosive single "Emergency", which swept the dance charts instantly, gaining acclaim from artists like Girl Talk, MSTRKRFT, Simian Mobile Disco, Fischerspooner. After perfecting a riotous style of electro-punk with a multitude of remixes and chaotic live shows, the sound of Passions evolved into much more personal, darker, colder, atmospheric post-punk experiments that remind us of Cabaret Voltaire and Joy Division. He had something to tell us about how he was feeling inside. Ben unexpectedly passed away on May 9, 2015, leaving us his Passions album, a precious gift of his talented spirit. A gift that Dead Wax Records presents in the form of a passion-red, translucent vinyl, housed in a heavy matt finish sleeve with black inner sleeve. An exclusive short run of 265 copies.

SILENTLY DOWN Sadness LP
In 1992 six songs were self-released on CD by the one-man synth, cold-wave outfit Silently Down as the Sad mini-album. Even despite Sad gathering excellent feedback and reviews, the full album project that was planned with a French label was finally shelved. More than 20 years later Dead Wax Records decided to give it a well-deserved second chance. Dead Wax Records are calling it Sadness to mark a difference, as it's so much more complete than its predecessor. Romantic synth, cold-wave, touching but dancey, heavily electronic. Heartfelt, sometimes truly sad lyrics, a sign of those times. The influence of classic bands like Little Nemo, Opéra de Nuit and Invisible Limits are undeniable. A very well crafted album with a great production level. Dead Wax are extremely proud to bring you this forgotten jewel, properly mastered for vinyl and presented in an exclusive vinyl run of 150 copies. It comes housed in a heavy matte finish sleeve.

GASLINI, GIORGIO La Notte LP
Michelangelo Antonioni's 1961 masterpiece La Notte is an atmospheric and enthralling movie starring the great Marcello Mastroianni, Jeanne Moreau and Monica Vitti and is the second entry in his famous "alienation trilogy" the central film of a trilogy beginning with L'Avventura (1960) and ending with L'Eclisse (1962). Antonioni's composer-of-choice for the first and the third movies was Giovanni Fusco, however, since La Notte was shot in Milan, Antonioni's initial idea was to hire a native composer, Giorgio Gaslini considering that there was a big difference between the jazz music that was being produced in the South and in the North of Italy. Gaslini wrote his score while the film was being shot, making a cameo with his own orchestra in the party that serves as a background for the film. According to his recollections this ended up being the most bizarre and exciting experience of his career. The end result is fairly unique as well: a catalog of ambient jazz music that boasts an unprecedented psychological thrust.

Variant is a solo project of Stephen Hitchell, who is one half of the massively influential Echospace project with DeepChord's Rod Modell. Their landmark 2007 album The Coldest Season on the celebrated Modern Love imprint was named album of the year in over 40 different magazines around the world and was listed as one of "The Best Albums Of The Decade" in Resident Advisor. The Detroit/Chicago duo also record under a variety of monikers (cv313, DeepChord presents Echospace, Intrusion, and Phase90), but Hitchell uses the Variant project to release his more long-form ambient dub and ambient techno recordings. Variant's albums invoke various celestial phenomena ranging from comets to stars to the aurora borealis. The cosmic preoccupation plays out in the music too, which ranges from warm analog space ambient infused with field recordings to more rhythmically active synthesizer loops and drones. On this edition (Element Five) he closes in on nearly 70 minutes of celestial magic; spellbinding and enchanting, this is a soundtrack for dreams. This dives deep into analog exploration, taking footnotes while pushing sonic boundaries to the future. This is the realm of sonic mysticism, a place where one can breathe, pray, love, and drift away into the ether. Cloud-surfing an electric wave of vibrational pulses in slow motion, flotation of the soul. The newly inspired elements of this series bridge the gap between modular movements of the '70s and the reflective atmospherics of dream sphere. Cosmic sonic therapy. The sound simply floats around you while drifting thru the vortex.

In the final edition of the Vortexual series, the sound comes full circle. Exploring the impressions of the mind. Feeling empowered, you, the traveler, can come to a deep appreciation for all that is comforting and pure. Openness in this atmospheric world is as important for the listener as for the creator. All perceptions in this domain run through filters that are neither bias nor unbiased, but music simply inspired by natural rhythms and looping patterns of the heartfelt step selection of synthesis in this analog dream. Realm of thought opens the gates to multiple avenues of groove control in these nearly 60 minutes of celestial magic; spellbinding and enchanting, this is a soundtrack for dreams. Printed retro matte finished CD sleeve with chrome sticker (housed in resealable poly sleeve).

MOSER, MICHAEL Antiphon Stein 2LP
Michael Moser presents Antiphon Stein, taken from his site-specific sound installation. Antiphon Stein is a site-specific sound installation in the nave and choir of Minoritenkirche in Krems/Stein that engages with the architecture and sound of this church space. The material used are hanging and lying flat objects of glass and metal that are played with sound pressure transducers. These objects thus become membranes that resonate in their entire surface and mass, exuding sound to the surrounding space. The initial sounds for the installation are largely generated using a special four-channel recording technique; after the digital editing, they are left in their special four-channel arrangement, since capturing the sound from various spatial perspectives and distances allows an acoustic image of the existing space to emerge. The sound of the specific space thus plays a central role in the overall acoustic image. By way of the stringency of the early Gothic architecture, the placement or hanging of the surface objects leads to the bipartite, responsorial form of the work. Below in the nave, the eight glass plate objects, each hanging between the powerful columns, above in the former choir the tripartite metal work, arranged on the floor on white felt, thus not visible, but only audible from below. The intimacy of the apse with its triptych of metal objects contrasts with the expansiveness of the nave, with the glass surfaces hanging at a great distance. The light design, from the dark nave to the apse flooded in light, seeks to continue this dialogue. The sounds - small compositional miniatures of a duration of three to seven minutes, above more organ, below more cymbal sounds, percussion, resonant glass - are combined by the computer on the basis of a precise score into ever new constellations: aleatory in part, sometimes in fixed series and interrupted by interludes that represent in temporal intervals of thirty minutes the only moment in which an individual sound file can access all surface objects in both spaces. Klaus Lang - organ (Stiftskirche St Lambrecht, Pfarrkirche St. Oswald, Krakaudorf; Minoritenkirche); Berndt Thurner - percussion (Minoritenkirche); Michael Moser - glass plates, electronics. Comes with booklet written in both German and English.

BISHOP, SIR RICHARD Salvador Kali 2LP
"Exiled Records is very excited to present the first ever vinyl edition of Sir Richard Bishop's Salvador Kali. Originally released on cd by John Fahey's Revenant in 1998. This was released following a run of peak Sun City Girls activity (330,003 Crossdressers, Dante's Disneyland Inferno) and came as something of a shock; a stunningly beautiful instrumental album that was entirely accessible! Composed and recorded free of the burden of expectation, his debut album marked Bishop as a force operating on his own plane. A fairly significant departure from the freewheeling nature of the Sun City Girls, Salvador Kali is a concise album in which he explores the hallmarks of his style: North African influences, Spanish flamenco, Indian raga and a fiery take on Django Reinhardt's Rose Room. The epic 14 minute solo piano fantasia, Al-Darazi is saved for all of side C. There is an incredible cinematic feel to the album as it's vibe runs from pieces that could be in a Satyajit Ray film to a lost Antonioni sequence set on the Mediterranean in the 1970's. Ironic that it was released by John Fahey, as it is was one of the few solo guitar albums to be free of the long shadow cast by Fahey. My favorite Sir Richard Bishop album on vinyl, at last! Edition of 500 copies."

TURMAN & AARON DILLOWAY, ROBERT Blizzard 2LP
"Recorded in the midst of an actual extreme winter weather event, Blizzard conjures the early synthesizer experiments of Popol Vuh and Tangerine Dream combined with the gritty reel-to-reel tape manipulations long employed by both Aaron Dilloway (Hanson Records / ex-Wolf Eyes) and Robert Turman (founding member of the pioneering industrial outfit NON and a celebrated solo artist in his own right). As the story goes, Blizzard was recorded in January 2009 during an Ohio snowstorm which hit on the very day that Dilloway was preparing for a move to Michigan. Alone, his wife and child already settling into the new place, and stranded in a cold and empty house, he was welcomed into Turman's home. They decided to make the best of the occasion and hunkered down for a few days of late-night recording. Crawling synth drones and looped effects keep things bleak throughout. The wind gusts outside are strangely regular. Snow scratches at the windows more rhythmically than seems natural. Are those woodwinds or animal calls? Are the streetlights obscured by blown branches, or are they slowly strobing? Suddenly a normal house in a common Midwestern blizzard feels like a house stalked by a sentient storm, bearing down for a final freeze. Throw another log on the fire and make yourself comfortable for the last time. Blizzard was originally released on CD by Hanson Records in 2009. This first-time vinyl edition is limited to 500 copies."

CHATHAM, RHYS Pythagorean Dream CD
Rhys Chatham returns with his first solo album since 2013, the enchanting Pythagorean Dream. Having studied under Terry Riley and La Monte Young (with whom he later went on to work), Chatham fused the overtone-drenched minimalism of John Cale and Tony Conrad with the relentless, elemental fury of the Ramones. It was an inspired amalgamation -- the textural intricacies of the avant-garde colliding with the visceral punch of electric guitar-slinging punk rock -- and with it Chatham created a new type of urban music. Raucous and ecstatic, this sound energized the New York Downtown scene throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, prefigured the no wave movement, and cast a huge influence over the subsequent work of Chatham's many protégés, including Glenn Branca and future members of Sonic Youth. Primarily focused on the electric guitar (but also featuring flute and a bit of trumpet) this recording is named after the Pythagorean guitar tuning it employs. The recording is a truly solo endeavor, composed, performed, produced, engineered, and mastered solely by Chatham. Chatham began to develop solos that he would play himself, choosing to incorporate the multi-second delay effect pioneered by Terry Riley with two Revox tape machines. Feeling that it tied in with his overall minimalist aesthetic and that the effect (which gives the impression that choirs and choirs of instruments are playing) was fitting as a succession to his 100-guitar idea, Chatham created and layered feedback loops of varying durations using Riley's method in order to create rich, overlapping layers that in practice transcend the limitations of their start and end points, blooming into free-flowing melodies in their own right. "Part One" of Pythagorean Dream opens with a brief trumpet intro, followed by a guitar piece that implements a finger-picking technique (Chatham has long been a fan of this style; John Fahey was one of his teenage musical heroes), before moving to an EBow section and concluding with the fast tremolo flat-picking technique used in the context of his 100-guitar pieces. "Part Two" is principally about Chatham's return to the flute, the instrument that sparked his love of contemporary music before he experienced an early Ramones show at CBGB and began focusing on the electric guitar. Pythagorean Dream features Chatham on C, alto, and bass flutes. The recording is brought to a close with a final guitar piece. The CD version include a bonus track recorded at the Whitechapel Gallery in London.

DEKATRON DEKATRON III LP
Dekatron is a duo formed in 2013 by Ivan Sentionaut, who has just released his first solo LP on Sincronica, and Miguel A Ruiz, a pioneer of Spanish underground electronic music since the early '80s who has worked under countless aliases through his cassette label Toracic Tapes, such as his legendary project Orfeón Gagarin, praised by Asmus Tietchens and disco's Esplendor Geométrico. The duo's first album, Dekatron II (2014) (GR 2133LP), received excellent reviews which regarded the duo as the new sensation in cosmic electronic music. Dekatron are inspired by the beginning of computing, the first IT systems and the deep cosmos. They explore the possibilities of the sounds of the new electronic age, using a wide array of digital and analog synthesizers, sound generators and rhythm machines. Dekatron III is the awaited continuation: an LP where their style range within electronic music widens, and includes more topics. There are echoes of Japanese techno pop, cosmic disco and extraterrestrial ambient music. It's a richer album, more varied and mature than their debut, and without a doubt a future classic of Spanish electronic music. As with the previous record, the wonderful sleeve has been designed by Alonso Urbanos, from an original oil painting by Adamo Dimitriadis. Science and retro-futurism in harmony.

KAJKUT, SLOBODAN Sick Nature/City of Bore LP
2013 release. Slobodan Kajkut presents Sick Nature/City of Bore. "Sick Nature" (played by Maggot, duet formed to perform this particularly piece), explores punctuality in a rhythmical way. Each note of the piece is performed with almost mechanical precision, which makes the piece extremely cold. Various percussion and dynamic extremes, from very silent to extremely loud, make a great correspondence to boredom of "City of Bore". For Slobodan Kajkut, there was always an intention to write a piece for hardcore/trash/speed/reaction duet Heifetz. Fascinated not only with their variety of different musical styles, that are part of their musical language, but also with their ability to perform with an extreme level of passion and variation of sarcasm and severity. Kajkut wrote a piece that musically and physically tests their patience. Somehow, the piece titled "City of Bore" (named by Heifetz), illustrates the character of the piece. Literally, there is nothing happening, the piece is a half an hour of emptiness, filled with periodical points. There is nothing new in the piece itself, many artists, such as Taku Sugimoto, have written thousands of such pieces, but in this case, it is interesting to hear how Heifetz perform such music, always on the border to explode, though with the ability to abstain. This is music where nothing makes sense. Slobodan Kajkut - composition; Heifetz: Arne Glöckner - guitar; Patrick Wurzwallner - drums; Maggot: Gottfried Krienzer - guitar; Martin Pfeiffer - percussion.

Together with Differenz/Wiederholung 2, Monadologie XII could definitely be Lang's most jazz-influenced piece to date and at the same time, one of the biggest quakes in contemporary music of today. DAVIS & MACHINEFABRIEK, GARETH Memory Space LP
2014 release. Gareth Davis and Machinefabriek present Memory Space, a recreation of Alvin Lucier's composition. "Go to outside environments (urban, rural) and record by any means (memory, written notations, tape recordings), the sound situations of those environments. Returning to an inside performance space at any later time, recreate, solely bv means of your voices and instruments and with the aid of your memory devices (without additions, deletions, improvisation, interpretation) those outside sound situations." - Alvin Lucier. The central concept behind Alvin Lucier's "Memory Space" is the representation of another time and place through the use of a new set of sounds. In his instructions, Lucier asks the performer(s) to go to an environment and record by any means (notes on paper, graphics, audio recording or by memory) the sound situations that are present, then, at any later time, in a different space, attempt to recreate that situation. The purpose of the work is to avoid elaboration or embellishment, but given that any action of recreation is still relative, a process of navigation through an excess of material, it becomes an impression, on occasion strikingly clear, at other times lost in a haze, with the very attempt to avoid narrative providing one. Alvin Lucier - composition; Gareth Davis - bass clarinet; Machinefabriek - field recordings and processing.

WIPERS Is This Real? LP
2016 repress. "Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, the Wipers formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut LP, Is This Real? -- twelve songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the LP has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 25 years. In the early 1990s Is This Real? was given mainstream attention when Nirvana covered two tracks off the record and Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group. While it was reissued on compact disc and available as a part of the Wipers Boxed Set (Zeno), this is the first time Is This Real? has been available on vinyl in the U.S. since its initial release. Remastered from original tapes as provided by Greg Sage himself, the LP is pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and housed in a deluxe tip-on sleeve. Complete with a printed insert that replicates the original innersleeve, the Jackpot Records reissue of Is This Real? is a lavish tribute to one of the greatest recordings of the last 30 years."

SUN RA The Saturn Singles Vol. 2: 1959-1962 LP
Herman Poole Blount, better known to the world as Sun Ra, lived more musical lives in his 79 years on this planet (and others) than seems possible. In the '30s he was the most rigorous bandleader in Birmingham, heading the Sonny Blount Orchestra and filling every waking moment with music or philosophical discussions; by the '40s he had moved to Chicago and performed with luminaries such as Wynonie Harris, Fletcher Henderson, and Coleman Hawkins. By the '50s he had changed his name to Sun Ra and began performing with longtime Arkestra bandmates John Gilmore and Marshall Allen. Sun Ra started his own label, El Saturn (or Saturn), to release his own recordings as well as those featuring the Arkestra backing local R&B and doo-wop groups. This second volume of the collected Sun Ra singles focuses on Yochanan (aka The Space Age Vocalist) -- a wild and wildly original street performer from Chicago whom Sun Ra befriended (or an alias of Sun Ra's) -- along with some other amazing Sun Ra sides (and tracks by Little Mack), spanning 1959-1962.

Featuring Powell's expertly accomplished acoustic guitar playing along with an all-star cast of backing musicians, this is an essential title for any fan of Brazilian music.

MONK, THELONIOUS The Unique Thelonious LP
1956's The Unique Thelonious Monk was the legendary pianist's second LP for the Riverside label, with which he would have a fruitful relationship that would span six years and over a dozen albums. Though this is, in fact, a piano trio album made up of standards, it is so much more than that might imply as it is also a Thelonious Monk record. As always, his genius for improvisation and interpretation of melody are on full display, a fantastic early record from one of the true iconoclasts of jazz, and another fine reissue from Jeanne Dielman.

Recorded in Stockholm on October 25, 1962, this session is one of Albert Ayler's earliest recordings, featuring a European backing group he assembled during his brief stay there, before returning to the States in 1963 and beginning his legendary run with ESP-Disk and Impulse. Though his genius is not yet fully formed, one can easily hear he's headed that direction, and this rare and long out of print recording is an essential piece of the history from one of America's most uniquely lyrical voices on the saxophone.

ASTROBAL Australasie LP
Emmanuel Mario aka Astrobal burst onto the scene in his native France through collaborations with some of the country's most cutting-edge artists, including Arnaud Fleurent-Didier, Holden, Institut, Iko Chérie. . . . Most notably, his work as a producer and drummer with Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier left an indelible mark, rendering some of the most singular work from the iconic French chanteuse. "Our blood runs hydrous with the seas / The essence of oceans spills through our veins." Laetitia Sadier matter-of-factly unfurls these words on the title-track of Astrobal's first full-length, and they prove prescient. The album is aqueous, each track a slow wave building before a momentous crash of sound, with clean lines and fluid form. Symphonic strings and ethereal ambient washes are married to buzzing synths and Astrobal's crisp, crackling drums. Take opening track "Everybody Loves the Sunrise": building slowly from Eno-esque synth gauze and swelling strings, it gradually layers in flutes, ricocheting drum snaps, and rubbery bass, crescendoing in a lush wall of sound before returning to its calm, Sunday-morning peacefulness. The funky flipside to this opening chill is the strutting cool of "Isao & IO." Floating in on a laid-back, Shuggie Otis-on-Quaaludes groove, Astrobal's wispy, French-accented vocals glide through crackling keys and chopped acoustic guitar, creating a melodic haze to get lost in. Though eclectic, Australasie never feels less than a cohesive vision, with the guiding principles of texture and fluidity uniting the disparate threads. From the loungey slink of "Rubycon" to the hymnal warmth of "Trois Beaux Oiseaux du Paradis," Astrobal creates a universe one can swim around in; from start to finish, it is of a particular mood, all beholden to the vibe. It is an assured first full-length from an artist who has put in the time to find himself and build his own world. Includes download code.

MENZIES, ALEX Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams LP
Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams is Alex Menzies', aka techno head Alex Smoke, follow up to 2015's Order & Disorder LP (KTX 003LP) release for Kathexis, both original soundtracks to BBC4 documentaries. The film Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams explores the amazing and untold story of automata - extraordinary clockwork machines designed hundreds of years ago to mimic and recreate life. Much of the instrumentation used for Menzies' carefully constructed score was also of the type actually incorporated into automatons, including bells, chimes and wind organs. Percussive patterns scattered throughout the cues are samples of machines moving, gears grinding, halting, some of them automatons themselves. As with Order & Disorder strings and choir are also spread throughout these evocative cues bridging a link from 18th century instrumentation and machines and providing an emotional connection to these long-forgotten marriages of art and engineering that are actually the ancestors of many of our most-loved modern technologies, from recorded music to the cinema and much of the digital world. With Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams, Menzies' talents as a composer really shine through; each piece revealing a level of technical sophistication and an inventive use of instruments both new and old to hauntingly beautiful results. Edition of 300.

KELLY, PAT Better Get Ready LP
LP version. Pat Kelly, out of all the Jamaican singers, was influenced most by the voice of American soul singer, Sam Cooke. As were indeed many of the singers from that time, few however could carry out this daunting task as well as Pat Kelly. His delivery was perfect and so was his ability to carry any song that came his way. Pat Kelly, born 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica, began his singing career in 1967 when he replaced Slim Smith as lead singer of The Techniques, his voice working so well with the impeccable harmonies of Winston Riley and Bruce Ruffin. Their first hit for the mighty Duke Reid stable was a version of Curtis Mayfield's tune "You'll Want Me Back" retitled "You Don't Care" which held the Number 1 slot in Jamaica for the six weeks. For this release, Kingston Sound have focused on material that Mr. Kelly had recorded with legendary Jamaican producer Bunny "Striker" Lee. A match made in heaven and one that produced some of their finest work. Tracks include "One In a Million", "One Man Stand", "Man Of My Word" and "I Started a Joke". So sit back and you better get ready for an albums worth of great songs sung and delivered as only the great Pat Kelly could.

RANDOM, ERIC Words Made Flesh CD
"Eric Random is a multi-instrumentalist from Manchester. He formed The Tiller Boys with Pete Shelley in the late 70s, released a solo album in 1980 and then fronted the group The Bedlamites. At that time, a lot of world music influences appeared in Eric's music. The group was also Nico's band during her last years, and Random the bandleader. Ties were formed with the Sheffield music scene, and soon Cabaret Voltaire worked with Eric, producing the seminal album Time-Splice. In the 1990s Eric reformed another side project of his, The Free Agents. A whole album was recorded, but only two tracks ever saw the light of day. After a longer hiatus Eric returned to the scene with his solo album Man Dog in 2014 and started playing live again. Klanggalerie are now proud to present the all-new album Words Made Flesh. It is dancier than Man Dog, and the world music traces have disappeared. On one song, Random has teamed up with Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire and more recently Wrangler. Watch out for Eric live in 2016."

STOTT, ANDY Too Many Voices 2LP
Repressed. Double LP version. Too Many Voices is the fourth album from Andy Stott, a follow-up to 2014's Faith in Strangers (LOVE 098CD). It was recorded from 2014-2016 and sees a diverse spectrum of influences bleed into nine tracks that are as searching as they are memorable. The album draws inspiration from the fourth-world pop of Japan's Yellow Magic Orchestra as much as it does Triton-fueled grime made 25 years later. Somewhere between these two points there's an oddly aligned vision of the future that seeps through the pores of each of the tracks. It's a vision of the future as it was once imagined; artificial, strange, and immaculate. Full of possibilities. The album opens with the harmonized, deteriorating pads of "Waiting For You" and arcs through to the synthetic chamber pop of the closing title-track, referencing Sylvian and Sakamoto's "Bamboo Houses" (1982) as much as it does the ethereal landscapes of This Mortal Coil and Dead Can Dance. In between, the climate and palette constantly shift, taking in the midnight pop of "Butterflies"; the humid, breathless house of "First Night"; and the endlessly cascading "Forgotten." Longtime vocal contributor Alison Skidmore features on half the tracks, sometimes augmented by the same simulated materials as on the dystopian breakdown of "Selfish," and at others surrounded by beautiful synth washes, such as on the mercurial "Over" or the dreamy, neon-lit "New Romantic." It's all far removed from the digital synthesis and the abstracted intricacies that define much of the current electronic landscape. The same cybernetic palette is here implanted into more human form; sometimes cold, but more often thrumming with life. Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy.

PEEL & DEATH, DAVID King Of Punk LP
King of Punk is the ultra-cult LP from 1978 by Lower East Side provocateur David Peel, the missing link between tribal-folk-skronk (Fugs, Godz, etc), '70s street rock, and nihilist-squat punk. Backed by fifteen rhythm guitar players, nearly as many bass players? and a cowbell. Lyrics so outrageous & over the top, music so loud that you have to hear it to believe it. Peel, who shared '60s stages with John Lennon & Yoko Ono, The Stooges, and MC5, and had a small hit with "I Like Marijuana" and released albums in the '70s such as The Pope Smokes Dope and The American Revolution, decides to out-punk the punks in '70s New York City and show The Ramones, The Dictators or The Dead Boys who the King of Punk really is! ANGELES DE OPIO Angeles de Opio LP
Ángeles De Opio was an underground heavy-psych power trio formed in 2005 by Spanish guitar god JC Sisto (Mater Dronic, Shakti's Delirium) plus Sergio and Adrián Ceballos (RIP KC, Melange). This project was born just after Sisto released his psych opus, Mundo Espectro, under the Mater Dronic name in 2005. Ángeles de Opio ("Opium Angels") played only a few shows, being ignored by virtually everyone, as their extreme, heavy psychedelic jamming & improvised sound was too much for Spanish audiences at the time. In 2006, some of their private, raw recordings saw the light under the name Fuzzy Lady (probably a wink to obscure psych bands like Wicked Lady and Fuzzy Duck) but only as homemade CDs which circulated between "those in the know" at the time. For the first time on vinyl, we present some of those recordings. Two side-long tracks of wild acid-fuzz-wah guitar jamming. You all know that JC Sisto is a killer guitar player but on these recordings he pushes his guitar to the stratosphere without any limits. 100% acid-fried guitar damage which brings to mind fellow Japanese travellers like High Rise or Mainliner and '70s hard-rock beasts like Stoned Guitar era Human Instinct. SHARP, ELLIOTT Tranzience CD
"'Mathematics and the various sciences are just ordered ways of looking at and analyzing all of the raw data supplied by the universe. It's all about mappings and correspondences. At the same time, my work often takes a speculative and irrational/intuitive approach. It includes both the ordered and rational, the intuitive and irrational, and the acoustics of the ear.' -- Elliott Sharp. For nearly 40 years, Elliott Sharp (b. 1951) has created a body of work that is exemplary in both its breadth and its depth. Sharp's discography, which numbers more than 300 separate items, includes works for orchestra, string quartet, rock band, blues band, solo guitar, multiple guitars. He is constantly in search of new sounds, processes, ways to create narrative arcs, ways to find music in unexpected places. His work is fed by acoustics, mathematics, philosophy, visual arts, and history. Central sonic concerns are melodies and grooves both micro- and macro-, harmonic saturation, density and texture, the vocalistic, the hyper-real. The goal is psycho-acoustic chemical change. He consistently tries to create structures with the spontaneity and energy of an improvisation. These four works exemplify the wide variety of approaches to the manifestation of his core concepts over a period of nearly twenty years. They reference influences and philosophies and, in addition, the diversity of their sound-worlds present sonic strategies that are unique to his compositional approach, including personalized extended techniques that extend the range of the instruments beyond notes. All are receiving their premiere recordings, stunningly realized by an array of stalwarts of the contemporary-music scene."

PATERNOSTER Paternoster CD
"Paternoster, that UFO of a rock album released unceremoniously on a custom-pressed CBS Austria long player in 1972, is the stuff of legend. It's been known to the rock collecting elite since the 1980s, when it was first rediscovered, and it quickly became one of those rock records, the records you hear about only if you know someone who knows someone with a copy, much like Damon's Song of a Gypsy. Paternoster is a terrifying album, a collection of songs that traverses the sublime, and thus necessitates a bowel-loosening acceptance of beauty too complicated to merely admire, bowing under the weight of a tremendous atmosphere, accentuated by Gothic organs and scorching fuzz guitar, punctuated by wailing vocals detailing visceral, Bosch-like images, and carried by enveloping bass and syncopated, mixed-well-too-loud-and-thankfully-so drums. This is the first reissue of the album done with the band's involvement, and was assembled with oversight by bandleader Franz Wippel and Thomas Wisser, the son of Franz' musical partner and Paternoster bassist Haimo Wisser. Custom made, 'mini-LP', tip-on CD packaged with perfect-bound booklet packaged in O card. They highlight the thoughts in the background of the media and a society hit by crisis, in which no voice of clear protest is heard in the world, not from human right organizations, let alone from the media inside Iran. No mention of this censorship, and torture on an artistic soul, along all social, technological and cultural transitions, in this current century, in a land where the world's greatest [ancient] empire [in] Takhte Jamshid - The Gate of All Nations - or, as the Greeks called it, Persepolis was established 2500 ago. It is impossible, in a few sentences, to explain the irreparable damages and the rubble of adversity that crumbled on me, my family and especially on my homeland in the past 37 years, with the occurrences of such cruelty - terrifying hell-like obstacles - that walking through them is not believable to others. This dark age of culture cannot be described in a few lines; there should be books written about it. Musicians were harassed and beaten in streets and their instruments were broken by boots. I, who was a leading popular artist in Iranian society, in just a few hours, was shown to be anti-culture, a perverted person. This was going on when my ability to earn any income for living expenses from my music was cut off. No light at the end of the tunnel. Iranian society was in awe watching all these horrific changes, in just a few hours. People in Iran know me as the master, the pioneer and the king of modern and rock music, but to protest against this cultural deletion, this censorship, and the physical and mental tortures the government brings upon me, I am forced to decide not to release my works in my own homeland, for an unknown amount of time to come. This doesn't mean I will stop working, and I will have a new album every a few years ready to present to my country. In the end I must point that I only write these words to let the world know about this catastrophe, not to attract sympathy of others, which I hate. I believe in an unjust battle, to stand tall is better than to surrender."

LIMBOOS, THE I Need Your Lovin'/I'm a Fool 7"
Critics have catalogued The Limboos as one of the freshest and most original proposals you can see anywhere on stage. The band slightly modified its line-up in late 2015 and is now a quintet including baritone sax and double bass. Two sides, two numbers, one for each aspect of their personal sound: "I Need Your Lovin'" is an upbeat R&B number that will have the dance floors jumping, while "I'm A Fool" is a mid-tempo offering in which the group leans in masterly fashion towards the sounds of soul and blue beat.

MARIANO, DETTO Amore Tossico LP+CD
1983's Amore tossico (Toxic Love) is a legendary cult film, a stark and unflinching look at Italy's "junkie generation." Director Claudio Caligari approached the film more like a documentary than a work of fiction, casting recovering junkies as his actors; Caligari "imagined it more as a straight-up visual ethnography, hyperreal, replete with humor in the most grotesque situations -- like life." Accompanying Caligari's stark imagery and story is the soundtrack by Detto Mariano -- a prolific composer, arranger, and pianist -- who wrote the entirety of the score on his Fairlight Series IIx, a now-revered synthesizer that had just been released in 1983. The sound is therefore scary and up-to-date, a true companion to the vivid and rough imagery of the movie. This led the composer to a brand-new level of engagement; the machine is the tool, hence the music becomes something like the Italian answer to the industrial revolution. Coming from an academic background, Detto Mariano knew little of industrial music, but in fact Amore tossico can easily be associated with such pioneers of the genre as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. The soundtrack is dark, angular, harsh, and -- just at times -- funky, rivalling the intensity of Carpenter's The Thing (1982) or Throbbing Gristle's Heathen Earth (IRL 004CD/LP, 1980). Never before available on any format, this soundtrack has been mastered from the original tapes and is now available as a deluxe 140-gram LP in a gatefold sleeve with a bonus CD of the entire album plus a reproduction of the original film poster.

VA Criminale Vol. 3 - Colpo Gobbo LP+CD
2016 repress; 140-gram vinyl; includes CD. The decade from 1968 to 1978 had a pivotal importance in Italy's 20th-century history. It was a period of deep social and cultural transformation on the wings of the Berkeley youth protests and the May 1968 protests in France, which then developed in different directions due to the moral contradictions of one of the most conspiratorial countries of the western world. Years of high-tension events -- beginning with the tragic massacre of Piazza Fontana and ending with the infamous kidnapping and murder of Aldo Moro -- were reflected in every aspect of society and culture. A palpable tension could be felt both sonically and visually. The soundtrack of this whole world was written in real time by a bunch of enterprising composers, right in the middle of a session for some magical Italian soundtrack or even an appearance alongside the RAI Orchestra (owned by Italy's national broadcasting company), who made little money while recording some instant albums for the most sought-after publishers of libraries. Sonic pictures of the heyday of Italian society, truly distinct from the music made by French, English, or German composers in their respective countries. The sound coming from the Italian television was as sharp as a razor blade and tasted just like lead and tear gas, with howling fuzz guitar and heavy drums to set the tumultuous scene of a society on the verge of implosion. Daniela Casa, Remigio Ducros, Alessandro Alessandroni, Stelvio Cipriani, Enzo Scoppa, Amedeo Tommasi, Franco Tamponi, and the other composers acted as drastic audio reporters as well as incredible musicians. They were able to describe in just few minutes the climax that surrounded them, using their classical heritage and training with hints of the avant-garde, along with the boost of psych-rock, jazz, funk, and whatever other popular musical innovation came their way. Urged to be minimalistic and not so original -- the quintessence of the library dictum -- the Italian composers answered instead with an experimental vocation pushed by that same need for renewal, stimulating the entire nation in those crazy and marvelous years. Released alongside Criminale Vol. 4 - Violenza! (PNY 4511LP). Includes tracks by Gerardo Iacoucci, Mario Vinciguerra, Vittorio Impiglia, Mario Molino, Elvio Monti, Bruno Battisti D'Amario, Franco Tamponi, Amedeo Tommasi, Antonio Riccardo Luciani, Alessandro Alessandroni, Leopoldo Perez-Bonsignore, Mario Pagano, Giovanni Ferroni, Enzo Scoppa, Stelio Subelli, Fernando Marucci, Paolo Ferrara, and Massimo di Cicco.

ELEKTRO HAFIZ Elektro Hafiz LP
LP version. Pharaway Sounds are proud to present the first solo album by Elektro Hafiz, an incredible blend of Turkish psychedelia, funk and grooves. Elektro Hafiz is a musician, born and raised in Istanbul, who has since moved to Cologne, Germany. Already well known in Turkey, he can look back on 20 years as a professional musician. With his former band Fairuz Derin Bulut he created and released three albums, which represent a milestone in the Anatolian psychedelic rock music of the second generation in Turkey. Elektro Hafiz has shown and proven openness to various and sometimes contradicting music styles by mixing eastern instruments like the electric saz, darbuka and finger cymbals with different genres. He loves to play with contrasts and create new compositions from there. This open and experimental approach is still his trademark, as well as his charming provocative style that is complemented by a healthy dose of humor. His diverse compositions are heavily influenced by his Anatolian roots, which are reflected in his instrument of choice, the electric saz, in most of his pieces. A further ingenious characteristic of him is using the electric guitar as a rock instrument while at the same time applying the Anatolian harmony system, or scale. Elektro Hafiz, his first solo album, showcases a more open and progressive format to his main base influence - the Anatolian psychedelic music. On this album he played a lot of different instruments by himself and also invited artists from different countries such as Kenya, France, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria and Germany to contribute. There are nine songs on this album and except for one cover song, all lyrics and the music are written by Elektro Hafiz.

FUCHS, LIMPE Gestrupp LP
Limpe Fuchs is a legend in the experimental music scene. In the late '60s, this percussionist drummed on self-made instruments, together with her then-husband Paul Fuchs, in the Anima ensemble. During that time, Limpe and Paul Fuchs collaborated with the Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda as well as jazz luminaries like Albert Mangelsdorff, and continually attracted the interest of their audiences in new constellations. Limpe Fuchs on Gestrüpp, which was produced and recorded between 2012 and 2014 by Andi Schmid and Hans-Joachim Irmler at Faust Studio: "I am a composer and performer of acoustic and visual events. In the studio I am lacking the visual element. Therefore I like to work with multitracking. As a soloist I listen to my field recordings and integrate them into my new compositions. I do love radio plays and that is how I create a sort of audio theatre with the aid of my very special instruments and noises." Limpe Fuchs's solo performance with "variable wood and stone rows, ringing bronze in the pendulum strings, and a variety of skin and bronze drums" is a rare occasion to witness one of the early avant-gardists of the scene from the old Federal Republic of Germany. She attempts, while playing live, to develop her musical ideas from the "resonance of the location where the performance takes place" and to "make music in the flow of time, with simplicity and emotion." Her main concern is to sensitize the process of hearing: "Every tone is a sensation. Listening instead of shutting one's ears. Establishing silence."

Janette "Jnett" Pitruzzello is considered something of a legend in her home city of Melbourne, where she's been DJing since the early '90s. Here, she delivers her debut solo EP, featuring a quartet of tracks co-produced by Maurice Fulton. The latter also delivers a solo mix of opener "Reflection," which adds a little leftfield disco sparkle and percussive sweatiness to an otherwise organ-heavy deep house groove. There's a similarly cheery, funky, and disco-tinged feel to the rolling, cut-up house goodness of "Swangzipani." "Bubbles Away" is deliciously dark, wonky, and intergalactic, while "Judge Not" wanders off into head-nodding, instrumental hip-hop territory.

TWINKEYZ Alpha Jerk LP
"From Sacramento via outer space comes The Twinkeyz and their Alpha Jerk LP, restored to excellence after 40 years! During the sizzling hot summer of 1976, Donnie Jupiter, Tom Darling and Walter Smith decided to break out of their boredom with a band. The group was named after Pink Fairies drummer Twink, and influnced by the Fairies, Velvet Underground, Thirteenth Floor Elevators and other underground favorites. In 1977, The Twinkeyz recorded and self-released their classic first single, 'Aliens in Our Midst.' 1978 saw its followup, 'E.S.P. / Cartoon Land.' And in 1979, the album Alpha Jerk was released on the Dutch label Plurex, run by Wally Van Middendorp of the Minny Pops. Though the songs on Alpha Jerk were great, the final mix was botched and the mastering job flawed. What should have been a classic stiffed as one of rock 'n' roll's 'could have been great.' Now it is! In 1994, Anopheles Records' Karl Ikola decided to do The Twinkeyz right. Ikola got ahold of the master tapes and, with Jupiter and Greg Freeman, remixed the entire album. In 1997, he released the restored Alpha Jerk, along with abandoned single tracks, live songs and other tidbits, as a CD entitled Aliens in Our Midst. The collection and its vinyl companion Cartoon Land went out of print more than fifteen years ago. Now after four decades, S-S Records presents Alpha Jerk as it was intended, with the original cover art and the superior Ikola / Jupiter mix. This version has been mastered by John Golden and pressed in an edition of 500 copies."

S TO S S to S LP
LP version. S to S is one of those obscurities that have remained unknown to collectors of hard rock for many years. Sommor Records presents the first ever reissue with the band's story told for the first time. S to S emerged out of the ashes of the band Etna, featuring the Cannella brothers: Fulvio on lead guitar and Mirco on bass along with George Abry on drums. After the demise of Etna, the Cannella brothers decided to form a power-trio: S to S was born. Upon meeting producer Michel Dickenscheid, they were offered a deal: the band would help Michel to build a new recording studio in exchange of free studio time with the intention of recording their first album, which would be produced by Michel. So they built a state-of-the art studio with their own hands and soon after recorded S to S. Mirco switched from bass to guitar so they recruited a new bass player, Picci Salvatore, who abandoned the band just after the recording sessions. A friend of the band played occasional keyboards and Michel, the producer, played sax on "I'm Fool", the most psychedelic sounding song of the album, similar to early Hawkwind. The rest of the songs are prime examples of pure hard rock featuring layers of fuzzed-out guitars and killer riffs by Fulvio, a monstrous sound created by producer Michel using primitive homemade pedal effects and up to four guitar overdubs. The album was completed in early 1977 but remained on the shelf until the following year. The band members were very pissed off when they received the albums from the pressing plant and discovered that their manager had included a logo with Sig runes lettering in the cover without consulting them. Only 300 copies were pressed on their own Overcome label. Remastered sound. Insert with detailed liner notes by Pascal D'Hooghe and rare photos. Highly recommended to anyone into Raw Power era Stooges, Back in the USA era MC5, Pink Fairies, early Motörhead, Hawkwind.

LA MAISON Collected Tape Experiments 1980-1984 LP+CD
"La Maison's story is essentially an oral one, like for many bands in those years. Casual encounters, records found and exchanged, demos recorded at home, live club shows in a country that in those years was changing socially and culturally at the speed of light, and was molding itself at the rate of a fluid modernity. The tracks of this album, Collected Tape Experiments 1980-1984, all recorded between 1980 and 1984, tell the story of a world where synthesizers and drum machines coexist and replace traditional rock instruments. Where homemade overdubs broaden the spectrum of sonic possibilities and the "cut and paste" of tapes is done, literally, by hand. A world in which the first infatuations for wave and industrial are contaminated with no prejudice by the rhythms and sounds of funk and disco. A milestone for those who want to understand the vibrant landscape of Italian music of the eighties, many times too hectic and elusive to be captured in real time. Twenty one tracks on CD and twelve on vinyl, most of them never published before, see the light of day more than thirty years after their creation." - Livia Satriano

RODRIGUEZ, RICO Tribute To Don Drummond 10"
Emmanuel "Rico" Rodriguez (1934-2015), a graduate of Kingston's legendary musical academy the Alpha Boys School, was renowned worldwide as a master trombonist. Shortly after leaving school, he became a member of the famed Eric Dean's band, playing alongside Ernest Ranglin, Tommy McCook, Lloyd Brevett, and Lloyd Knibbs, among others. He was soon joined by trombonist Don Drummond, to whom he dedicated this 1969 album. In the early 1960s Rodriguez left Jamaica and emigrated to London. His instrumental virtuosity eventually earned him many sessions and gigs, most notably with rhythm and blues combo Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. In later years he featured as a member of The Specials and also with Jools Holland's Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. This reissue finds Rodriguez back in 1969 with the opportunity to blow over contemporary Jamaican rhythms from legendary producer Bunny "Striker" Lee. Earlier that year news arrived from Jamaica of Don Drummond's passing. Lee and Rodriguez immediately decided to record a tribute album to this internationally renowned trombonist. The album takes its rhythms from the Bunny Lee All Stars, with Rodriguez's trombone overdubs and vocal interjections by Gene Rondo (aka Winston Laro) laid at T.M.C. Studios, London, in mid-1969. The album was completed in four hours, which is a testament to Rodriguez's masterful trombone skills. This reissue includes ten of the original 12 tracks. 10" in heavy card picture sleeve with poly outer sleeve.

ACCIDENT DU TRAVAIL Tres Precieux Sang LP
"Terrific record! Eight charged, intimate meditations by Julie Normal and Olivier Demeaux, playing a rickety ondes Martenot and an old church harmonium. Gripping, detailed, stately improvisation -- a bit like the ùrlars in classical bagpipe music -- which nervily mixes the sternly doom-laden with precarious, other-worldly wonderment. (The ondes Martenot is an amazing twentieth-century instrument -- beloved by Messiaen, for example, and Varese. The theme-song of Star Trek is a vocal forgery of its sound. 'J'aime cette fragilité qui côtoie la capacité de te décoller le tympan sur certaines fréquences inopinément,' says Julie. 'Je tiens une bombe dans les mains. J'aime son instabilité, son humanité.') "A" TRIO + ALAN BISHOP Burj al Imam LP
140-gram LP in gatefold sleeve with a special drawing by Mazen Kerbaj. Mastered for vinyl by Harris Newman. Edition of 500. Entirely recorded at Tunefork Studios on the outskirts of Beirut, Burj al Imam's five tracks include three largely improvised numbers, a loose reworking of Sun City Girls track "The Imam," and a cover of traditional Americana song "Gently Johnny" (a highlight of Alan Bishop's live Alvarius B. shows). True to their habits, the Lebanese trio of trumpeter Mazen Kerbaj, guitarist Sharif Sehnaoui, and bassist Raed Yassin create acoustic improvised drones that range from insistent, chiming resonances with emergency alarm bells to low, thrumming hums. Avoiding conventional technique, "A" Trio generates rattling, metallic vibrations and a mechanistic backdrop out of which the instruments' true voices arise. With Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, The Dwarfs of East Agouza) and his guitar and enigmatic voice in the mix, alternating between gentle crooning and the sounds of a howling dervish, this recording reaches an exceptional depth with strange sounds boiling down to a dark, heavy spiritual syrup. Psychedelic, industrial free jazz. Previously released on CD by the Beirut-based Annihaya label in 2015 (END 010CD).

LES RALLIZES DENUDES Live 77 2LP
Repressed. Les Rallizes Dénudés are one of the earliest and most revolutionary Japanese psychedelic rock bands, and existed off and on through four decades. The band formed in November of 1967 at Kyoto University, inspired by Exploding Plastic Inevitable-era Velvet Underground as well as the over-amplified rock of Blue Cheer and Mario Schifano's avant-garde ensemble Le Stelle. By 1968 they were gigging live and even began a regular collaboration with an avant-garde theater troupe, which ended the next year because of Les Rallizes' penchant for extreme volume. Not only did they use massive amounts of feedback at loud volumes, their stage shows used strobe lights, mirror balls, and other effects for a live experience that was a total sensory assault. This historic performance recorded in Tachikawa in 1977 is perhaps the most beloved document of the band's sound: extreme feedback and distressed guitar with detached vocals laid over languid rhythms -- unbelievable in intensity.

LOS PEPES Los Pepes LP
180-gram LP. Includes liner notes by Vicente Fabuel featuring an interview with band member José María Soler. "Hardly known despite the band's historical importance, Los Pepes from Valencia released an LP in 1966 with totally original material (there wasn't a single cover version on it; they wrote all their own songs), which back in the Spanish rock scene in the 60s was an extraordinary feat. Everything about Los Pepes is surprising. The five-piece band fell into the hands of the tiny Madrid-based label Hit, then headed off from Valencia to Barcelona in order to record an album under the name of Los Singals (the name the group started off with, combining the words singer and cymbal) and returned with an LP recorded under the new name of Los Pepes. . . . Los Pepes produced one excellent song after another: the ferocious 'Ríndete', a textbook nugget, wins people over every time it plays; 'Por favor' is definitely one of the highlights of the LP, each time you listen to it you discover unexpected nuances thanks to the tremendous energy compressed into two very intense minutes and the triumphant guitar solo, which is raw, lyrical and unlike anything else heard in Spain before. Other tracks such as 'Quiero amar', 'Rojo' (which was later released as a single) or 'Tú tienes que volver' offer a contrasting folk rock vein with psychedelic touches; gentle medium tempo songs with swaying crystalline guitars. After completing the hard part (recording an LP), the record failed to get half decent distribution and languished in the shadows. In the mid-90s the mysterious bankruptcy and disappearance of the inappropriately named Hit label became clearer when stock started to appear, rescued from an old warehouse, the barely one hundred copies of the LP that had been saved began flooding record fairs and the memory of the band from Valencia slowly started to be restored. It is surprising to come across such an extraordinary record with such an unfortunate trajectory, evoking an austere musical venture, created far from the centres of the Spanish record industry. Nonetheless, it's a bold proposition, which after suffering all manner of setbacks, has had to wait half a century to be reissued. At last, the high standards Los Pepes set can now exceed the expectations of even the most knowledgeable fans." --Vicente Fabuel

MULATU OF ETHIOPIA Mulatu of Ethiopia LP
"Mulatu Astatqé (also sometimes spelled Mulatu Astatke, as he is on the liner notes to this release) might be most known to international audiences through his tracks on the excellent Ethiopiques CD anthology series of Ethiopian music. Long before those tracks were compiled for that series, however, he had an American release with this 1972 instrumental album, on which he's billed as 'Mulatu of Ethiopia.' Like much of the best of the circa-early-'70s contemporary Ethiopian music on Ethiopiques, it's a fine, at times captivating blend of late-'60s American soul and jazz with Ethiopian music, resulting in something not quite comparable to anything else." -- Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide.
