AMP STUDIO Uncertainty Principles 2CD
Uncertainty Principles is the new Amp Studio album, the solo project of Richard Amp of A.M.P.. As the album's name suggests, it is an homage to the beauty that can manifest itself when random or complex processes are allowed to flow in the production and creation of musical or visual works. Serendipity and random or pseudo random events have been integral to the making of this record. The sleeve artwork has also been created using processes that produce coincidental imagery. It was an "out of the blue" request for a copy of the track "Tiller" that led to the formation of this album. The act of finding and locating the master for this track, lead Richard to the realization that there were sounds and tracks in the archive, "Tiller", "Slip", "Misstype Dolittle" and "Sleep City Drone" that deserved re-evaluation and an opportunity for a new lease of life. He set about working on new material, using sounds and field recordings, both new and re-discovered, mixing the new and remixing the once forgotten. The album traverses terrains of intersections and juxtapositions from the shorelines of "Sliptwo" to the event horizon perceived in "Photon Sphere". Spiral deconstructions and city noise chaos combine to create the expressionist drone of "Spinfactors" and the lo-fi rap of "Sleep City Drone". The combinations of the sound effects of a typewriter, used as percussion, analogue synth sweeps, and washed out distorted drone sonic guitar on "Misstype Dolittle" is signature Richard Amp in his Amp Studio guise. We drift though 'Slip' almost as an interlude before the full randomality speaks in "Mort Irritées", an homage to music-concrete and the work of Pierre Henry. "Tiller" concludes CD 1 like a blissful balm, steering us outward towards some distant horizon, piano echoes calling the imagination to float free in a minimal sea. A chance invitation to perform in Bethnal Green, East London resulted in the making of "Uncertainly Alive", a transcript version of the performance, which forms the core of CD 2.

VA Space Echo: The Mystery Behind The Cosmic Sound Of Cabo Verde Finally Revealed 2LP
Gatefold double LP version. Includes a 12-page booklet. Analog Africa presents a compilation of dancefloor grooves from Cabo Verde, revealing the mystery behind the island's cosmic synth sound. Located 350 miles off the coast of Western Africa, Cabo Verde (or Cape Verde) is an island country that was first incorporated as an overseas department of Portugal in 1951 before later attaining independence in 1975. This collection captures a vital musical period during the late '70s and early '80s when the introduction of synthesizers facilitated the modernization of local rhythms such as Mornas, Coladeras and the highly-danceable music style called Funaná, which had been banned by the Portuguese colonial rulers until 1975 due to its sensuality. In the spring of 1968 a cargo ship containing instruments made by many of the leading companies in the field of electronic music -- including Rhodes, Moog, Farfisa, Hammond and Korg -- set out for Rio De Janeiro, where the Exposição Mundial Do Son Eletrônico Exhibition was going to be held. The expo was the first of its kind, where companies were eager to present their newest synthesizers and other gadgets to a growing and promising South American market, spearheaded by Brazil and Colombia. However, the ship with the goods mysteriously disappeared from the radar on the same day it set sail. One can only imagine the surprise of the villagers of Cachaço, on the Sao Nicolau island of Cabo Verde, when a few months later they woke up and found a ship stranded in their fields 8 km from any coastline. Mystery permeated the event. Cosmic particles were said to have been discovered on the boat, where the bow of the ship showed traces of extreme heat similar to traces found on meteors. A team of welders arrived to open the containers. Hundreds of boxes contained keyboards and other instruments they had never seen before: and all useless in an area devoid of electricity. The goods were temporarily stored in the local church and the women of the village had insisted a solution be found before Sunday mass. It is said that charismatic anti-colonial leader Amílcar Cabral had ordered the instruments to be distributed equally in places that had access to electricity, which placed them mainly in schools. This distribution was the best thing that could have happened -- keyboards found fertile grounds in the hands of curious children, who picked up the ready-to-use instruments. The children who came into contact with the instruments found on the ship were said to have inherited prodigious capabilities in understanding music and learning the instruments. One of them was the musical genius Paulino Vieira, who by the end of the '70s would become the country´s most important music arranger. Eight out of the fifteen songs presented in this compilation were recorded with the backing of the band Voz de Cabo Verde, led by Paulino Vieira, the mastermind behind the creation and promulgation of what is known today as "The Cosmic Sound of Cabo Verde." Tracks by Abel Lima, Antonio Dos Santos, Elisio Vieira, Americo Brito, Os Apolos, João Cirilo, Tchiss Lopes, Quirino Do Canto, Pedrinho, Fany Havest, Bana, José Casimiro, Dionisio Maio and António Sanches.

Antivj present their first release, a collection of Thomas Vaquie's work titled Ecume. Antivj recordings are about releasing music that has a strong cinematic dimension. It is about giving a new life to musical pieces that were originally created for physical experiences. Sonic narratives that were originally part of a visual work. The first release is a collection of pieces of music by Antivj's main composer Thomas Vaquié. Over the last few years he has created site-specific pieces for places such as the Centre Pompidou Metz , the Old Port of Montreal's metallic conveyor tower, in Song-do (South Korea's futurist city project) and Oaxaca's ethnobotanical gardens. Thomas also creates very modern compositions for immersive audiovisual installations, (3Destruct, Onion Skin, Light Sculptures, Cityscape 2095). With a strong sense of composition and narrative, sound designer skills and a capacity to project an image sonically, Thomas produces striking, emotional and physical pieces.

GESING/BJORN MEYER/SAMUEL ROHRER, KLAUS Amiira CD
Songs without words, suggestive and emotional transparency and connection, contemplation and departure, meditation and attack: this music fascinates from the very beginning. It has no need to boast or become talkative, but stays true to itself as it casually develops its poignant pulse and lets it grow, and grow. The web of sounds soon begins to radiate from within, it inspires images in one's head, and invites to musing and introspection. Against the background of a wide horizon the details of their music join, develop a life of their own, and lift off to collective flights of ideas. This music is an invitation to listen without prejudice, offering a way to get lost in dreams while, at the same time, remaining solidly grounded and completely awake. There are many connections between bass clarinetist/soprano saxophonist Klaus Gesing, bassist Björn Meyer and drummer Samuel Rohrer. The experience of playing together and sharing their innovative spirit is a pre-requisite for the artistic co-operation of this new trio, in which the love of adventure and improvisation takes precedence over the pre-composed. Because of this the evocative power of their interaction can generate such strength, the give-and-take of their musical discourse being so intimate. In this music a unique sound structure grows from within itself, layer-by-layer, and involves and enchants the listener. It is broadly emotional and without mystique or pretension. How else could these delicate dialogues develop such gravitational pull and magic? Acoustic and electronic sounds, sensuous rhythms, sumptuous woodwind-songs, earthen and ethereal bass lines, grooves and vibrant atmospheres all merge with one another and graciously rise from silence to hypnotic beauty. The inner logic of the trio's interaction is compelling for it neither strives for attention nor takes the listener unawares. It grows and spreads coherently like a natural organism. The three of them have, each in their own right, worked with outstanding vocalists. Samuel Rohrer with Laurie Anderson and Sidsel Endresen, Klaus Gesing with Norma Winstone, Björn Meyer with Asita Hamidi - all of whom are vocalists that can evoke textures with delicate poise, avoiding trends, and express them in an entirely personal way. It also characterizes the unique quality of this trio's instrumental music: richly colored, highly concentrated and finely balanced, it develops a life of its own without ever imposing itself on the listener.

NANCE, DAVID More Than Enough LP
"LP version. David Nance lives in a world where rock has been influenced as much by This Kind of Punishment and The Pin Group as by The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones. Omaha's best-kept secret, up to now known primarily to DIY tape collectors and record club subscribers, Nance welcomes all with More Than Enough, his first full-band full-length, which follows the stellar but criminally under-heard 2013 Actor's Diary LP on Grapefruit Records, as well as a string of limited-edition, over-modulatingly intense and emotionally destructive cassette releases. Recorded in Los Angeles, scrapped, then re-recorded after a move back to his Omaha hometown with his wife, More Than Enough sounds like the very last record to have undergone any process longer than a few hours of recording. It's that immediate and on fire. The recipe: (a) get a shit-hot group of musicians; (b) cut songs down to their most 'on' moments, or alternately let them ride a groove into the sun; (c) capture it all on actual tape. That's the Nance approach, and it's as much an ode to home-recorded brilliance as it is to whoop-ass inspiring rock."

Thee J Johanz's "Kambo" is a dark and mysterious, almost Chris & Cosey-sounding, 808-driven trip into the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. In a serious ritual, poison of the kambo frog comes to you like an electrocution. After begin sick for a short while, it makes you the happiest person on Earth. For weeks. And this is how it feels. It's a piece of art. Thee J Johanz's own remix takes you from the tribes of the Amazon to a kind of tripped-out Chicago warehouse in 1987, while RK (Roland Klinkenberg!) makes "Kambo" groove on heavy bass and refined percussion.

Vivian is a great acid banger with high frequency Jupiter 8 eruptions and a simple "raga style" melody. The track was finished after Charanjit Singh passed away. The B side a 16-and-a-half minute take from a live show at the magical Alsisar Palace in Rajastan, India. Charanjit Singh is improvising on the Jupiter, like he did on his proto-acidhouse album in 1982, and Thee J Johanz is jamming with the 808 and 303.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES France Demo Tapes CD
This just might be the single greatest side of OTT psych/noise guitar oblivion ever put to disc from the most legendary Japanese underground group of all time, Les Rallizes Denudes: the mysteriously-named France Demo Tapes have previously only circulated on wildly dubious CD-R burns, often with contradictory and conflicting track listings/material but the session (whether it was actually recorded in France or not) is consistently dated as being from some time in the late '80s. This gloriously out-of-nowhere release finally delivers on the hype surrounding this much whispered-about session, two massively deformed versions of their classics "Night Of The Assassins" and "The Last One". You have heard nothing" like this and when Mizutani is on this kind of form it's hard to believe that any other rock music exists outside of this singular, blasted universe. Since the release of the album Catapulte in 2013, media have been used to describing Chevalrex' music as "miniature symphonies". For Futurisme, Rémy Poncet, the handyman that plays himself all the instruments, writes his own lyrics and even makes his own cover, has decided to keep the same path but meanwhile, has grown in melodic power and maturity. "I finally let my teen life behind, and from now on, offer me some peaks" he sings in "Aussi Loin". CALYPSO ROSE Far From Home 2x10"+CD
The calypso music that was popularized in the '50s was made exclusively by men for a long time, but if there is one queen of the style, it is Calypso Rose. This all is joyfully sung against a musical background of pure calypso, ska, and soca. After a long career during which she was written more than 800 songs, the dynamic singer, 76 years old at the time of this release, returns with Far From Home, produced by Ivan Duran and featuring the guitar and voice of Manu Chao on three tracks. BIOSPHERE Patashnik 2CD
Patashnik was originally released by R&S Records/Apollo in 1994. It was number 1 in NME's Independent Chart in March 1994 and reached number 50 in the UK official album chart. The track "Novelty Waves" was used in Michel Gondry's Levi's 501 Jeans "Drugstore" spot, and holds, according to the Guinness World Records 2004, the record for "Most awards won by a TV commercial". Double CD version comes with the bonus 12-track album Patashnik 2. "One reason why Jenssen's work stands out from the flood of early '90s ambient/techno releases is his strong sense of the quirkily creepy - not in an Aphex Twin mode, but in his own particular way. The contrasting samples of a child quaveringly saying, 'We had a dream last night,' followed by a rougher sample saying, 'We had the same dream,' gives opening number 'Phantasm' an unsettling feeling. Intensified by the, on the one hand, pretty, on the other, disturbing music, buried synth strings and a soft pulse accentuated by clattering noises deep in the mix, it kicks off the striking Patashnik very well. Though not as openly dark as acts like Lull, for instance, Biosphere still has an edge which isn't just melancholic, it's downright ominous at point. There's the slow crawl of 'Startoucher', for instance, with its buried vocal snippets and deep bass drone, or the blend of the space signal atmospheres of 'Mir' into the low, brooding intro to 'The Shield.' Not everything is so shadowy, though; Patashnik is primarily a relax-and-chill listening experience, but not without its gentle high points. 'Novelty Waves', which became a crossover single in some quarters, has a good dancefloor sharpness to it even as Jenssen slyly sneaks in odd drones and samples through the mix. The opening snippet talking about an extraterrestrial disc jockey on 'Seti Project' is good for a smile, as well as acting as a sharp lead-in to a fast rhythm track. Mostly, though, things continue on a deliciously unnerving pace throughout, gentle enough to go down easy but still just off enough to ensure you can't call this new age folderol for the rave generation." - Ned Raggett - AllMusic

HIGH, MARTHA Singing For The Good Times CD
Most people don't know that, hidden on James Brown's milestone anthem "Cold Sweat," and in all of James Brown's productions, is one of the best-kept secrets in soul music: Mrs. Martha High. She is the one who sings that crazy soprano note at the very beginning of the song and she is the one who sang behind James Brown for about 35 years. She was with Brown and the JB's in Boston on the infamous night after the Martin Luther King assassination, she flew with him in the dangerous Vietnam skies to entertain the US soldiers, and was also in Zaire celebrating the "Rumble in the Jungle" between Ali and Foreman. Martha was truly a friend, confidant, and supporter of the godfather of soul. Maybe she was just too young and shy to jump over the other soul divas to ask for a solo record. In 2016, things are different. Mrs. Martha High is the hardest working woman in show business. She is still touring worldwide as a lead singer of Maceo Parker's band, and, finally, has recorded the album she always wanted to make. Eleven killer original tunes produced and arranged by Luca Sapio, the Italian soul ambassador, in true analog sound. The tunes evoke the best productions of the golden era of Southern soul as well as the sonic landscapes of the Italian soundtracks of the '60s. This record is made of truth, soul, love, and pain -- a full spectrum of emotions that only Marth High could deliver to your ears. This is not a revival, this is not retro, this is now.

GUSTAFSSON, MATS Piano Mating LP
Clear 180-gram LP in screenprinted sleeve. Limited edition of 500. The two side-long pieces on Mats Gustafsson's Piano Mating sound like two holes puncturing the fabric of reality; holes that disobey laws of time and space; black holes, even. The pieces are pure, simple-sounding, slowly ascending drones that feel convincingly like conveyor belts for the soul. X-Ray Records asked Gustafsson to compose an album using an instrument with which he'd never recorded before. He responded with one of the most bizarre instruments ever, the Dubreq PianoMate. It's a synthesizer from the 1970s designed to be operated in conjunction with a piano, but Gustafsson here manipulates the machine on its own to wring out strange, expressive sonic prayers. "Microtonal electronic maracas is perhaps an apt description," says Gustafsson. "It is just a totally different beast compared to anything else I ever played. The PianoMate does whatever it wants really. But I can control pitch and volume and detune it while playing. The microtonal clusters that it offers are highly inspirational to work with and really something that is quite hard to achieve on the saxophones. And I just love the sound of it. That color really kicks my mind and ass." Compositionally, Gustafsson let the unique restrictions and limited tonal palette of the PianoMate guide him rather than attempting to bend the unwieldy instrument to his will. "Making this music was a lot about creating a specific state of mind. Letting the music take over," he explains. "Letting the sounds create the music. Slow. Listening for it and going for it. Never pushing it. Hard to describe, actually. And of course, part of the mystery of it all." Although he admits he rarely listens back to his recordings once he's finished with them, Gustafsson says that Piano Mating has brought something new and indefinable to his iconoclastic music. "I really hear very different things every time I listen back to these recordings. I found them still very surprising and, funnily enough, very inspirational to me. In my sax playing, I get a lot of inspiration from listening to the PianoMate. I love my PianoMate! -- there should be one in every household!!!"

TRUPA TRUPA Headache CD
2015 release. Sharp as a migraine and twice as psychedelic. There is something about Trupa Trupa's music that borders on an interface with pain -- sometimes the vocals and guitar are all treble and daggers, for instance -- but then there's that anesthetic cushion of organ and the rolling sighs of the rhythms and melodies. Trupa Trupa's music teeters between a yawn and a shriek. It sways but does not stumble. There is something almost threatening about the way it affects to lose control at moments when one knows full well that it's never under any less but the most precise and steely control of its creators. These four men from Gda?sk, Poland, make rock music that swells with exquisitely executed tension and release. This is the noise one might imagine four 20th-century minimal composers making (Schoenberg? Stravinsky? Satie? Pärt?) if they had electric instruments instead of sheet music and a grudge instead of an audience. The band's lyrics are marked by the same economy and brutality as their deployment guitar, bass, drums, and keys. Everything is sparse and happening at once. Those repetitive grids of words and tones are in agreement but offer no clues. This could be the most vicious music Blue Tapes and X-Ray Records has ever released. At least one person has described it as sounding like Faust. It was recorded in a synagogue and an abandoned marine machinery plant.

LA FEMME Psycho Tropical Berlin 2LP
Repressed. French indie-rock band La Femme is a conundrum -- an episodic band with various faces. La Femme was born during the X years in Biarritz, France, when Sasha and Marlon started composing music on their guitars and recording it onto Garage Band. Together they ride surfboards, pianos and synthesizers as they explore various styles from '60s yé-yé French pop to California surf music. Marlon moved to Paris, and there he met Sam, who played bass. Together, they formed SOS Mademoiselle along with Olivier Peynot, and played vintage French rock, as Sasha was practicing his scales in reverb surf band Les Redoutables. Sasha then joined his friends in Paris, where they discovered French cold wave and synth pop, Marie et les Garçons being one of their favorites. They polished a style that could be described as one of the following: surf-wave, bizarre-wave, strange-wave, weird-witch-wave, silly mental-wave or psycho-tropical Berlin. Joined in 2010 by drummer Noé and female singer Clémence. La Femme formed its first live roster in a few days and took shape that same year with its first anthem, "Sur la planche," a song that was made to be hummed and whistled while riding a surfboard. Later on, La Femme released their second EP, Paris 2012. Soon joined by fancy rhythm drummer Nunez Ritter von Merguez aka La Sauterelle and singer Clara Luciani, as well as a whole roster of female singers, they now present their debut album Psycho Tropical Berlin where rock, pop, rococo Bauhaus, as well as influences from Kraftwerk and Elli & Jacno conjoin just to please you. BANABILA, MICHEL Early Works: Things Popping Up from the Past CD
Numerous threads run through the music of sound artist, composer, and producer Michel Banabila (born 1961), whose contemporary work ranges from adventurous electronic cross-breeding of chamber instrumentation through industrial rhythmic sampling and outwardbound modular synthesis to deeply elegiac drones. This set collects the Dutch artist's instrumental 1980s work -- beautiful minimal loop-based electronica, classical-influenced pieces, and ambient drone music -- documenting his early years with material originally released as cassettes, vinyl EPs, and limited CDs. Banabila's piano echoes with a disarming simplicity, its atmospheric gestures bringing to mind the proto-minimalism of Erik Satie. The melody could easily be an additional hundred years old -- except for the fact that the refined patterning is something that likely only could have been pursued in light of the music of Michael Nyman and Philip Glass. The equipment on which this music was made, notably an early sampler, was limited in various ways, key among them the relatively circumspect set of capabilities, especially in terms of memory storage, and the lack of received performance techniques. The equipment was simple and it was new, and neither factor limited Banabila's ambition; on the contrary, the tools concentrated his imagination. If the classical pieces represent the Old World as framed by the new, then the more recognizably "electronic" work here is likewise most at home in a fictional place, an idealized zone. That zone is a quiet neighborhood in the Fourth World, to borrow Jon Hassell's terminology, one in which digital tools render something that is, for all its technological dependency, ultimately a form of folk music -- an otherworldly folk music for another time. Fidgety percussion plays amid a fierce but restrained guitar line (there are echoes of Laurie Anderson and Adrian Belew). An ambiguous and elongated drone, thick with subliminal activity, beautiful in its toxic anxiety, suggests dire activity on the horizon. And yet the horizon wasn't dire. Quite the contrary; what was ahead for Banabila was a long string of releases, a healthy and well-documented career in which so many of these individual threads have been provided time and space to have entire records dedicated to their pursuit. This album of archival works documents the continuity inherent in Banabila's music. It is a map in musical form, tracing a path that crisscrosses back and forth between the Old World and the Next.

VA Musique Concrète LP
Reissue of 1960 BAM label release. Musique Concrète represents an important milestone in the development and progression of the genre of the same name. It marks a crossroad for the genre and its originator, Pierre Schaeffer and another of the genre's most important protagonists, Pierre Henry. In 1942, Schaeffer and Jacques Copeau founded the Studio d'Essai (renamed Club d'Essai in 1946) as part of Radiodiffusion Française studios in order to experiment with radiophonic techniques. In 1948, Schaeffer occupied his time with the manner in which sound recordings "revealed what was hidden in the act of basic acoustic listening". This resulted in a series of studies known as Cinq études de bruits (Five Studies of Noises) (1948). With word of his theories and experiments spreading, Schaeffer's studies grew in size and he would need assistance. Pierre Henry was an obvious choice and sound engineer, Jacques Poullin, completed the sonic powerhouse. The group was renamed the Groupe de Musique Concrete. In 1951, RTF gave the trio access to one of the earliest purpose-build electroacoustic studios, furnishing it with state of the art equipment such as a morphophone and a phonogene, both designed by Poullin. The studio attracted composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and Edgard Varèse and in that same year Schaeffer and Henry produced and premiered the first opera concrète, "Orphèe 51". Pierre Henry began pursuing projects closer to his own heart, working with experimental filmmakers and choreographers like Maurice Béjart. In 1957, following a particularly prolonged absence on RTF duties, Schaeffer returned unhappy with the direction the group had taken and tabled an idea to revitalize both their approach as well as personnel. As a result, Henry and several other key members soon left. Schaeffer lay the foundations in 1958 for a new collective called Groupe de Recherches Musicales recruiting new members Iannis Xenakis, Henri Sauguet, Luc Ferrari and Michel Philippot as well as ushering in a new steady stream of musicians eager to study, including a young Jean Michel Jarre. Featuring the full versions of these seminal early works (abridged versions of which had previously appeared across two 7" singles on Disques BAM) the recordings presented here are the first fruits of this new alliance and served to lay the bedrock for the future of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales which would later count the likes of Ivo Malec, Philippe Carson, Romuald Vandelle, Edgardo Canton and François Bayle.

SICILIANO, DANI Dani Siciliano CD
Dani Siciliano's third album is self-titled for a reason; it represents a personal statement crafted by Siciliano's own hand, feeding off her accomplished past in experimental pop and electronica for a celebration of musical liberation. The culmination of eight years of songwriting, production research, and sonic exploration, Dani Siciliano follows Likes... (2004) and Slappers (2006) and finds Siciliano focused on crafting as much of the album by herself as possible, working with just a few select musicians to round out her creative vision. As ever, her captivating voice remains at center-stage, and the listener can hear echoes of her earlier work with the likes of Matthew Herbert, The Soft Pink Truth, and Brooks tucked away among the folds of diverse instrumentation, but this is an album that sounds very much like its own beast. It's an album of love and unabashed soul that reaches enthusiastically toward all the sounds that hold the greatest appeal for Siciliano. The production intuitively frames the narrative of her lyrics, neatly demonstrating the unfettered vision that she has been able to realize with this project. It's the balance of the unusual and the immediate that make this such perfect pop music, sitting neatly among the brooding musicianship of Nôze's 2015 Come With Us album (CC 017CD/CCS 095LP) (on which Siciliano features), Nicolas Jaar, and the ever-blurring lines between the avant-garde history of Circus Company and its broad contemporary outlook. If there is a track that captures the album's multi-faceted sound palette it is surely "Blink," which fuses illustrious blasts of brass with fluttering electronics and a purposeful drum beat as a perfect statement of intent. Some compositions evince a grounded, earthy quality, as on the sultry guitar-laced funk of "So Amazing" or the arpeggiated, folk-inspired reflection of "Together." Elsewhere, the production positively leaps with its playful deployment of electronic elements, from the effervescent swing and strings combo on "I'm The Question" to the snaking synth flourishes and bass swells of "Take Two." The razor-sharp arrangement of "Why," with its sparse piano ostinato and layered vocal lines, teases out an infectious, original result.

As always great lines are delivered with deadpan humor: "The reason we didn't sound like the Smiths is because we wanted to sound like this" is Billy's reply to all the reviews of his band's work during the '80 and '90s - in the days when they stood all but alone as "the kings of garage rock" (New York Times). SQ 1 could be seen as a manifesto of punk rock defiance, a celebration of musical independence or simply a true document home-made rock and roll delivered as art, not commerce.

MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE Selectors 001 CD
What is a "Selector"? Dekmantel has long been determined to find out. The first compilation comes from Motor City Drum Ensemble. These are not mix CDs; every Selectors compilation will include a collection of hand-picked, unmixed tracks personally curated by the artist. Motor City Drum Ensemble (a.k.a. Danilo Plessow) has been digging for records since his teenage years, and his DJing has become the stuff of legend. In truth, Plessow's relationship with Dekmantel dates back to the earliest days of the Motor City Drum Ensemble project, making him a natural candidate to head up the inaugural Selectors compilation. As expected, he's thrown himself into the task; selecting a want list from his collection of 15,000 records was no easy task, but getting permission for the final tracklist was even tougher. One song in particular, Raphael Green's "Don't Mess with the Devil," required him to personally call up a church in St. Louis, Missouri. "The guy, he's a Bishop," he says. "When the Ferguson protests were happening, for example, he was on CNN explaining his thoughts on the whole thing, so he's a known public figure, but nobody really knew that he had this amazing record that was recorded in '79 or '80. His voice is just unbelievable. It's the kind of record that when I heard it the first time, I couldn't believe that there had only been like 100 copies pressed, and that this wasn't actually big." Motor City Drum Ensemble's record bag is full of these kinds of gems, but he has no qualms about sharing a few of his secret weapons with a wider audience. "I wanted to get some of the stuff that is really, really hard to get, and make it available for younger people," he explains. "I used to be in the same situation. Back when I was 18, I would listen to a Rainer Truby mix and he would only play these $400 Brazilian records. I was like, 'Fuck, how am I ever going to be able to afford these?' I was glad when there was a reissue, and it's a bit the same with the compilation now. Basically," he explains, "the approach for the compilation was, 'If I walked into a record store, what kind of compilation would I buy?' That's what I did." Features: DJ Slym Fas, House Of Jazz, 20 Below, Risque III, Licky, Raphael Green, Ahzz and Bill Deal

TACKHEAD VS. ROBO BASS HIFI VS. FATS COMET The Message CD
Tackhead, the legendary dub-funk-rock institution. Robo Bass Hifi and Fats Comet, the legendary industrial hip-hop project behind Tackhead and their alter ego. They were and still are known for producing dance tracks that were densely layered in samples and ahead of their time. Robo Bass Hifi lives and breathes a tight combination of jungle, dub, dubstep, space and irregular pop. His electro reggae flavor (call it - nu school) influenced drenched in bass music and is mighty in all its facets. Markus Kammann aka Robo Bass Hifi stringently sticks to his path. After submitting remixes to the three musketeers of German pop (Seeed, Fettes Brot, Jan Delay), he also led the reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry into the dark room and has shaken things up on the release Nu School Of Dub. David Lynch and Ari Up bring a breath of Jean Michel Jarre pop and captivate the master of the deep, thick bass. This is what German press has to say about Robo Bass Hifi: A hybrid sort of sound, which occupies the mid-field between Major Lazer and jungle, interspersed with breaks (filled with reggae off-beats). A high-energy work stuffed to the brim with crazy ideas. If you're not in a state of ecstasy and are capable of listening consciously to this musical fireworks display, then you'll be amazed at the endless different layers of sounds in these tracks, which take turns in sitting at the top of the dub mixes. Tackhead and Fats Comet recorded the originals on the upcoming The Message album - Robo Bass Hifi has taken them to a deeper level. With this exceptionally fine release, Echo Beach welcomes the spring with the warm throb of a deep bass.

VA Eskimo Recordings Presents: The Yellow Collection 2CD
Belgian imprint Eskimo Recordings presents the fifth installment in its annual compilation series, exploring the boundaries of the label's house, disco and pop infusions in The Yellow Collection. The opening moments of The Yellow Collection come from Eskimo's core artists, with Norway's Atella, "one of this new wave's best" according to Thump. Greek producer NTEIBINT's "By Your Side" is a deliciously mellow and disco-tinged track that features former Twin Shadow bassist Rush Midnight (aka Russ Manning) and the unstoppable Du Tonc's head-spinning classic "We Can Hold On" cultivates the pinnacle of the unique indie/disco sound suffused with pop sensibilities that Eskimo does so well. The Yellow Collection unveils the previously unreleased dub mix from iconic German duo Satin Jackets for the first time. Man Power showcases "Fisky," a driving and hypnotic cut that follows nicely on from his inclusion in XLR8R's "Best of 2015: New Artists" feature. This Soft Machine has graced both Nicolas Jaar's Other People label and Eskimo's The Orange Collection (ESK 507080), and picked up props from the likes of FACT for his robotic demeanor, revisited here in "It's Operational." Handpicking talent from the local Belgian scene, Eskimo present two new acts from Antwerp for the project. Go March is an instrumental group whose debut single "Rise" stretches a post-rock groove in a sort of Mogwai-meets-Kraftwerk synthesis, while the dark, hypnotic and electronic Blackie & The Oohoos' "Aphexy" shifts The Yellow Collection toward rhythm and coherence and shows a band at the top of their game. At the heart of the collection are two acts from the cooler Scandinavian climates of Norway that are familiar to the tastebuds of Eskimo fans. The alluring vocals of Else Born (also known as Norway's finest pop export Philco Fiction) appear on "Colours," a track from Horixon that references '90s R&B, classic house, and a touch of garage. Oslo's Vinny Villbass finds his way back onto Eskimo with "The Itch" and its haunting synths that infiltrate the lower frequencies. Each artist has their own identity but Eskimo forms a package of seamless musical treats and forges yet new allies in the dreamy landscape of The Yellow Collection. Also includes tracks by MiddleSkyBoom feat. Eliezer, LUXXURY, Zombies In Miami, and James Curd. Includes bonus mix CD.

Sauna Youth is an evolving band of young future humans making truly irregular punk not quite comparable to anything else. Sauna Youth's debut long-player, Dreamlands was a joint release between Gringo Records and Faux Discx. This is its first time on CD. Sauna Youth, attracted to the possibilities apparent within a DIY philosophy, have been self-recording and self-releasing their own music since 2010, creating a number of split 7"s and cassettes. "Weird" is a meaningless platitude, and "art punk" is a classifier that shouldn't be required. Sauna Youth journey into the far-reaching wilds of the unfolding psyche and feast on the chaos within, quickly collapsing any pre-conceived notions within minutes of impolite introduction. As Kurt Cobain once asked "Why can't we be both Black Sabbath and The Beatles?", Sauna Youth consistently and urgently pose the question, "Why can't we be both The Ramones and Steve Reich?"

LANG/PHILIP JECK/ALTER EGO, BERNHARD TablesAreTurned 2LP
2011 release. TablesAreTurned is a project by Bernhard Lang and Alter Ego with Philip Jeck for turntables and amplified ensemble, based on the song by Amon Düül 2. TablesAreTurned is the first collaboration between one of the most significant Austrian composers of today, Bernhard Lang and prominent English turntablist Philip Jeck. There is no doubt that mutual interested in loop technique, led to the musical collaboration, connecting the worlds of academic philosophy with underground aesthetic. Unlike his previous works, where Lang was able to transform an ensemble into a big loop generator (his series of "Differenz / Wiederholung" pieces, accomplished with magnum opus opera, monumental Das Theater der Wiederholungen), here he turns the ensemble into cellular automata, generating counterpoint based on the rest of the loops. On the other side, Jeck offers a dozen of lo-fi locked grooves, making the perfect extended interludes between powerful ensemble episodes. Premiered at Berlinerfestspiele, but also performed at Wien Modern and Huddersfield Contamporary Music Festival, the piece is now available for the first time as a limited double LP. Bernhard Lang - composition; Philip Jeck - turntables; Alter Ego: Manuel Zurria - flutes; Paolo Ravaglia - clarinets; Aldo Campagniari - violin; Francesco Dillon - violoncello; Oscar Pizzo - keyboards; Eugenio Vatta - sound projection.

RITSCH, WINFRIED Woodscratcher PIC. DISC
2012 release. Woodscratcher is a composition and sound generating machine from Austrian composer, media-artist, sound-sculptor and performer, Winfried Ritsch. Already known as collaborator in different projects with Bernhard Lang, Peter Ablinger, Ritsch created his "own dedication to noise pieces of experimental music from '70s onwards". The "Woodscratcher" is a machine that cuts a 2-5cm thick disk of a wooden trunk in a circular line along the growth rings of the wood, like a turntable. At the same time, the wood is amplified with four sensors and the signals picked from microphones are spatialized over four loudspeakers in the corners of the room. This scratching in the concert is done until the inner part of the disk falls to the ground and the piece ends. The movement of the cutting tool behaving like an over-sized record player needle, has the performing function and is an allusion of the production of records, as well as playing them. The "Woodscratcher" pretends to extract and play the information which resides in the piece of wood cutting it in an excessive performance. The wood is heard as acoustic material with superimposing loops of the cutting process. With the progression of the cutting process the sounds evolves of the pieces in more and more rubbing and squeezing sounds. The audio signal filters functions of the wood being heard as repeatedly changing formants, almost imaging voices in the noise. The aesthetics lies in the excessive performance beyond feasible by a human actor or musician and also, links the many possible associations to the world of music performance. One of them is the sound based on the noise of the experimental music pieces since the 70s and another with ideas of Herbert Bruen's computer music project "Sawdust" from that time. The transition in algorithmic composition to the composition of processes as instrument like done in live composition is expanded to the construction of a mechanical machine which is the live composer. The main aspect of this is that the process does the composing and the machine is composed for executing the process of extracting the piece out of the disc of wood, destroying it and defining the audible result of the piece. The picture vinyl release is a simulation of "Woodscratcher". The vinyl has an image of a wood, mimicking the actual performance.

2015 release. Slobodan Kajkut presents Terrible Fake. Terrible Fake explores rhythmic relationships between drums and piano in context of the somewhat crippled art of trip-hop. It is mostly based on irregular beats in order to create a kind of fragmented groove. Different characters are also emphasized through mostly chromatic movements of piano in different registers, producing either undefined tonal system or droning wall of sound. "Terrible Dub" is nevertheless a "dub" version of the piece which minimizes "Terrible Fake" to its fundamentals regarding time and pitch, where both parameters are stretched. Slow movement based on the core of dub music itself, which are bass and drums. Slobodan Kajkut - composition; Anton Polk - Piano; Istok Klemen - Drums, Drum Computer.

OSTERMEIER, MARC Tiny Birds CD
Tiny Birds is the new work by Marc Ostermeier, the co-founder of Words On Music and the Tench record label. He defines much of his music as being "skeletal piano melodies" which seems pretty accurate given the sparse nature of Tiny Birds. Yet, amongst the gorgeous little melodies at play here, there is a careful depth of sound design from a variety of found sounds and field recordings. Apart from the simplicity of his piano structures, there is a tellingly beautiful contribution from violinist Christoph Berg.

HAWKES, MARQUIS Social Housing CD
Despite an aversion to the spotlight, Marquis Hawkes is one of the fastest-rising names in house music. A string of 12?s for labels such as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Clone and Aus preceded a trio of exceptional EPs for Houndstooth, which won him swathes of new fans, from the DJ booth and the radio studio to, of course, the dancefloor. Now he presents his long-awaited debut album Social Housing. Including a devastating new song with legendary vocalist Jocelyn Brown and contributions from regular collaborator Timothy Blake, the album encompasses the full spectrum of house music, from deep grooves to disco cut-ups, soulful keyboard jams to jacking drum-machine workouts. With several high-profile DJs already singing its praises, Social Housing is set to be the soundtrack for the summer. Leaving no artistic stone unturned, Hawkes commissioned his friend, illustrator and fellow musician Alan Oldham (aka DJ T-1000) - a member of the Detroit collective Underground Resistance who's renowned for his graphic novels and cover artwork for labels such Transmat and Djax Up-Beats - to provide us with the visual manifestation of his creation. The cover artwork was drawn from a photo taken by Hawkes' wife in the area of East Berlin that they live.

LAZY SMOKE Corridor Of Faces LP
2016 repress. "Lazy Smoke - Corridor Of Faces is held in high regards as one of the rarest psych albums ever made. The sole offering recorded in Massachusettes in 1968, Lazy Smoke is a cohesive, solid, classic album in every sense. The first remarkable trait of Lazy Smoke's sound is the lead vocal's similarity to John Lennon. Upon digging just a little deeper below the surface, we instead find a darker tone and a patient, eerie feeling resonating through the songs. While bands like The Beatles and Love were singing about love, lament and hallucinated travel experiences, the songs on Corridor of Faces get sincerely dark right away. Even the seemingly-light teenage love-themed 'Sarah Saturday' shares an undercurrent of on-the-edge uncertainty. It's this undercurrent that calls to mind comparisons to Forever Changes era Love. Originally privately pressed in MA in an edition of only 500 copies in 1968. Now repressed again in 2016 in an edition of 500 transparent light green vinyl."

WEVAL Weval CD
When Kompakt came across Amsterdam-based Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers aka Weval in 2014, the label was blown away by the duo's slow-burning, darkly emotive tracks. Following two widely acclaimed EPs for Kompakt and numerous festival appearances, the pair now present their self-titled full-length debut. This is no mere collection of tracks, but a complete listening experience with organic flow, emotional heft, and a narrative thread. While the duo's previous Kompakt releases -- their acclaimed 2014 Easier EP (KOMPAKT 318) and 2015's bold and beautiful It'll Be Just Fine/Grow Up (KOM 344EP), which saw the two soundsmiths digging deeper into the granularities of electronic funk than ever before -- were astonishingly fully-formed, the pair's music always seemed destined for more space to explore the nooks and crannies of this rapidly evolving sound cosmos. Simply put, they needed to think about an album, and their beloved living room studio wasn't cutting it anymore. An old school building, repurposed to house small creative businesses, became Weval's new home, but in the summer of 2015, it was abandoned most of the time, with everybody out in the sun while the duo turned the building's attic into a sweet spot to make some noise, have 24-hour access, and lose track of time. Weval draw their inspirations from no single genre of music, but an accumulation of music that inspires them. The results present an astonishingly coherent vision -- cuts like the dramatic "The Battle," bass growler "I Don't Need It," and the trippy epic "Madness" share the same DNA of zestful nostalgia, a knack for immersive sound-sculpting, and that certain kink in the groove. They also feed on deeply personal experiences and moods, as exemplified by the haunting electronic ballad "You're Mine," the carefully layered, polaroid-tinted "Just In Case," and the beautifully voiced closer "Years To Build." And sometimes, it's just an old, out-of-tune piano that stands in the hallway -- "Whenever I'd pass by it, I couldn't resist playing it," says Albers, "so Harm decided to start recording and it became an integral part of 'You Made It (Part I).'" No doubt about it: this is Weval's most powerful and organic material yet -- which means a lot, considering the amount of skill already on display in their small but weighty portfolio.

FLOORPLAN Victorious 3LP+CD
Triple LP version. Full color outer and inner sleeves. Floorplan is already well known as Robert Hood's house outlet, which this year evolves into a family affair with co-production alongside his daughter, Lyric. Victorious is the second Floorplan album and follow-up to 2013's Paradise. The new album itself is preceded by the double-headed single "Music"/ "Tell You No Lie". As Robert once again extends his minimal techno sound, he also returns his focus to house, disco, funk and gospel to the Floorplan show, which now takes a surprising twist. Having watched her father DJ the world, Lyric Hood comes center-stage alongside her father. "Hear my soul speak, is the only way I can describe the way I feel about Floorplan, (Victorious) music is in my soul, my blood, I eat and sleep beats, music, rhythms, it's in my DNA. So please, hear my soul speak." The Floorplan project first came to light in 1996 when Hood used it to announce his Drama imprint with the highly sought after Funky Souls EP. Launching with the heady house swirl of "Spin", Robert and Lyric then drop the deeper stylings of lead single "Music" which builds into a hypnotic, bass-driven anthem. Picking up on Hood's trademark razor-sharp percussion "The Heavens & The Earth" brings the Bible to the floor (with added funk) and "Good Thang" shows the strong influence of Chicago as a simple refrain turns into a house missile from the pulpit. "He Can Save You" continues the Chicago/gospel theme but with a more driving techno edge whilst "Mmm Hmm Hmm" marries powerful chords to trumpets, dynamic bass, booty refrains and skillful sampling creating yet another hands up anthem. "Ha Ya" has that stripped back minimal feel we all know and love and perhaps the closest we get to touch on the classic Hood sound whilst "Tell You No Lie" is pure, un-adulterated disco-string drenched fun(k) and already tearing down dancefloors as we speak. "Push On" takes us back to the tight, knife-edged percussion of Chicago's house vanguard, reminding of the tougher sounds of DJ International and DJ Deeon, DJ Funk and Boo Williams. "They Can Tell" kicks in with a no-nonsense, foot stomping kick drum as Floorplan chop up the vocal refrain into what becomes the main hook of the track and finally "Sun In the Sky" brings the disco back with yet another string-laden anthem to bring the Floorplan show to a fittingly, uplifting end.

SOARES, ELZA The Woman At The End Of The World (A Mulher Do Fim Do Mundo) CD
Septuagenarian Brazilian music icon Elza Soares teams up with the cream of São Paulo's avant-garde musicians for an album of apocalyptic, experimental samba sujo ("dirty samba") that tackles the burning issues of 21st century Brazil: racism, domestic violence, sex, drug addiction and global warming. The Woman at the end of the World is Elza's 34th studio album and her first to feature previously unrecorded material, exclusively composed for her. Voted "Best Album of 2015" by Rolling Stone Brazil after its domestic release, it will now be released worldwide by UK based label Mais Um Discos. Over a sprawl of distorted guitars, squalling horn, taught strings and electronic shards, samba is savaged by rock 'n' roll, free jazz, noise and other experimental music forms. A true legend of Brazilian music Elza has an incredible musical oeuvre that stretches back over seven decades mixing samba with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and electronica, whilst her life story is a rags-to-riches-to-rags rollercoaster of triumphs and tragedies that has made her a voice for Brazil's repressed female, black, gay and working class populations. Her music career began in the late 1950s as she sung in clubs and hotels, sometimes being forced to perform off stage because of her skin color. The '60s was a career defining period with a run of classic albums for Odeon. After decades of hardships and artistic exploration, her latest muse is São Paulo's hyped samba sujo scene. Soares presents an album that walks a tightrope between post-rock and post-samba. "I knew this album would be a bold, modern sound" she says. "These songs are tense they do not allow you to relax". The album opens with "Coracão do Mar (Heart of the Sea)" with Elza reciting a poem from celebrated Brazilian modernist poet Oswald de Andrade. Title track "Mulher do fim do Mundo" uses carnival as a metaphor for the apocalypse and according to composer Romulo Froes "translates Elza's strength and indestructability". With The Woman at the End of the World, Elza forces the joy and sadness that personifies samba to confront the dirty truths of modern day São Paulo.

B/B/S/ Palace 2LP
One of the most amazing things about the group B/B/S/ is that even though it does sound like the logical sum of its parts, listening to their output is like devoting yourself to an emotional haze of interaction. All based on improvisations recorded within two sessions at Golden Retriever Studios in Berlin, the ten new tracks, spanning almost 80 minutes total, are so fluid and natural that they abandon separating the musicians' individual contribution for a soundscape that is overwhelming in the best possible way. However, the place B/B/S/ puts you in is not a gleaming one: It could be imagined as an empty room with just a chair to sit on to be surrounded and pervaded by flickering guitars, effects and drums - a scenery that is as murky as it is gripping and best digested without further distraction. Making you feel comfortable might not be their main intention but Aidan Baker, Andrea Belfi and Erik Skodvin know all the tricks to turn this into an exciting atmospheric experience with plenty of vigor and hope shining through the duskiness. Their second album, Palace, for Miasmah masters in tension that is building up like a blueprint, maybe starting in one room but revealing many doors, corridors and passages to explore. There are no dead ends in their Palace: It's a dark territory and sparse in light but each turn is a success and each glance a revelation. Gatefold Sleeve. Limited to 500 copies. BERIDZE, NATALIE Guliagava CD
"Guliagava, by Natalie Beridze, TBA, Tusia Beridze is like her previous albums, it was recorded in Tbilisi, south-easternmost Europe. The Georgian metropolis is far from pop-cultural arteries, nevertheless its youth observes precisely what is happening outside, and installs that otherness in their own world with a delicate hand. Yet they never run the risk of piddly writing a diary, on the contrary, they again make this now expanded own, this enriched own available for the outside world. Natalie Beridze's cooperation with Monika Enterprise began in 2005 - she was one of four artists on the compilation 4 Women No Cry Vol.1. Her album Forgetfulness followed in 2010. Over the last two years Beridze produced Guliagava. Three pieces - "Museum On Your Back", "Those Things", "Opening Night" - were created with Gacha Bakradze. "Opening Night" is also part of the soundtrack to the award-winning film When the Earth Seems to Be Light by Salome Machaidze ,David Meskhi and Tamuna Karumidze. The song "Hello" Beridze wrote with Gio Koridze, a student at Tbilisi's media university CES, where she teaches composition. The words to "Fishermen 2015" come from the farewell letter of a Syrian refugee who drowned in the Mediterranean. Guliagava is a fantasy word that Natalie Beridze's little daughter Lea once seemed to hear in a Russian lullaby. She speaks the word Guliagava when she needs comfort, when she needs a hand to cling to. Natalie Beridze's music is of a rare, bewitching beauty - even when her beats are shredded or when she rocks with an abrasive four-to-the-floor. She moves within her own characteristic tonality of diminished chords that frequently extends into the minor harmony - a tonality within which an unsettling, questioning undertone often resonates alongside the sense of melancholic longing. In her older releases lines could be drawn to IDM and Broken Beats or Detroit Techno, and an admiration for musicians such as Autechre, Aphex Twin or the Cocteau Twins could be detected, here there is a suggestion of R&B over dubstep. But it's a kind R&B over Dubstep based on the bold assumption that both styles clearly trace their lineage to Kate Bush. Her vocals have never been so animated, her songwriting has never sounded so complete, and her arrangements, for all their complexity, have never been so round. Guliagava is Beridze's tenth album and it is nothing less than her masterpiece." - Andreas Reihse (2016)

GHAZALEH, TAMER ABU Mir'ah CD
2008 release. Tamer Abu Ghazaleh's debut album Mir'ah (Mirror) was released in 2008. Recorded with a group of Palestinian and Egyptian performers, the record's seven entrancing and sometimes frenzied songs were written during a turbulent period of demonstrations, bombardment and invasion of Palestinian cities. Composed during curfews, the album expresses everyday human emotions - love, hate, comfort, boredom, excitement - that were informed by the unreal experience of living in Palestine during that period. Tamer Abu Ghazaleh is a leading figure in modern Arabic culture. The Palestinian singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer has over the past few years collaborated in many music projects and founded eka3, a regional platform dedicated to promoting, producing, distributing, and touring independent Arabic music.

Leading off the proceedings on this first volume is the Ø [Phase] remix of "Dungeon" which takes the listener to a dark place of uncertainty and possible hidden dangers, but with more vigor and percussive intensity added to the mix. Ben Sims appears on the scene as well with a re-envisioning of "Gated". Retaining all the controlled chaos which made this track a classic, Sims adds more of his own fuel to the fire. DWARFS OF EAST AGOUZA, THE Bes 2CD
The Dwarfs of East Agouza are a trio from Cairo featuring Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya), Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.). Born during 2012, the trio's instrumental improvisation-based explorations are propelled by Louca's North African percussion loops and shimmering keys, Shalabi's West African tinged free jazz guitar and grounded by Bishop's driving Krautrock-style acoustic bass. Following many a late night jam session, the band recorded hours of material during a three-day studio run in April 2014. After compiling and mixing the album in Montreal's Break Glass studio in July 2015, the refined result is Bes. From the lilt of the four-minute Ethiopian tinged "Resinance" to the 30-minute free-form epic "Museum of Stranglers", the album skirts the outer limits of a psychedelic soundtrack to a North African road trip.

ATOM TM Texturen II CD
Part two of Atom TM's minimalist, ambient magnum opus, Texturen, airdrops you into a void of undulating sonic modulation with nothing but the dream of silent huskies for company. Uwe Schmidt has always been a maestro of harnessing non-repetitive repetition and on Texturen II he takes that to a psychedelic extreme, constructing a smooth, digital crystal within the stereo field. Almost imperceptible sheets of binary sleet superimpose themselves on flows of deep, glacial pulse-width gestures. The ensemble is minimal but ever-fluctuating, expansive but hyper-detailed. A frozen mirage. Here, the vistas are endless, the peaks illusory, the troughs few and the symmetries pure. Eat your rations, try to keep moving and don't go snow blind. KARACHI FILES Karachi Files CD
In May 2015, an assortment of electronic musicians from Pakistan, the Maldives and Germany followed the footsteps of brothers Hannes and Andi Teichmann, otherwise known as Gebrüder Teichmann, the Forever South crew and the Goethe-Institut to meet in Karachi; Pakistan's industrial capital, harbored on the Arabian Sea. A house was remolded into a temporary recording studio. It would become a place to meet, inspire and be inspired, record, play, eat and sometimes sleep. Musicians, together with a photographer convened, and the outcome of two weeks would transpire into the Karachi Files. Karachi Files, a textural collection of electronic fused works is a melange of different cultures, immersed in a fixed space, of which predestined inspiration was taken from its surroundings. The corpulent body of work harmonizes a balance in the elements, delivering a variety of tracks, from electronic club music to electro acoustic experiments, particularly textured including a few more slow-mo and raw. Following the African European Ten Cities project and it´s album release on Soundway in 2014, Karachi Files will be the first release on the Teichmann brother's new label Noland. TERJE & THE OLSENS, TODD The Big Cover-Up 2LP
Appearing on record together for the first time, Norway's premier disco troop Todd Terje & The Olsens have cooked up a double-pack dancefloor attack for your listening pleasure. Digging through their extensive collections of well-loved wax, Terje & the gang have specially selected a quartet of disco classics ripe for a remake. Forget re-edits though, this is The Big Cover-Up and the Olsen crew have hit the studio with all guns blazing on this wild version excursion. Our journey starts in Tokyo with a 303-driven take on Yellow Magic Orchestra's version of Martin Denny's "Firecracker." The perfect combination of cocktail exotica and disco kitsch, this party pyrotechnic is reloaded with buoyant acid and beefed up bass, accelerating through Eastern guitar licks and operatic vocals before filling the night sky with an explosion of color. Falling somewhere between the Swingle-inspired New Mjondalen Disco Swingers and Yello's "Oh Yeah," the remake of the enduring "Disco Circus" puts the vocals at the forefront, locking us into a tribal trance state with its hypnotic rhythms. Next Terje & The Olsen's give "Do You Wanna Bump"" a bright and brassy make over perfect for cocktails and caviar on a Mediterranean yacht. While in the Med, take a trip to Greece with a sleek and slick spy flick remake of Vangelis' stunning "La Fete Sauvage." Disc two is all about the dark room as Todd flips through his remix Rolodex and recruits some demolition experts keen on club destruction. The C-side finds Mexican maverick Daniel Maloso takes the lead with a synthed up club dub of "Do You Wanna Bump"" before Idjut Boy Dan Tyler brings the cosmic power on his spaced out version of "Firecracker." Full Pupp impresario and gourmet Goulash chef Prins Thomas pays tribute to "Whole Lotta Love" with a full throttle remix of "La Fete Sauvage" while fellow Norwegian Oyvind Morken fires up the 808 on a percussive house mix of "Disco Circus."

LA BATTERIA Tossico Amore CD
Tossico Amore is La Batteria's personal tribute to the composer Detto Mariano and the movie directed by Claudio Caligari in 1983. It is a true concept album that further expands the already rich sound tapestry of the quartet. La Batteria initially grabbed our attention with a first album that succeeded in combining the typical Italian epic sound attitude with materials coming from the wide, and often obscure, field of sound libraries and film scores. Tossico Amore is about reworking the music originally composed by Detto Mariano for Caligari's cult movie. Starting with a series of heavy themes inspired by the tough world of drugs, the music slowly transforms into full progressive-rock - that's where La Batteria effectively show their wide and multi layered background. A modern prog-rock opera that takes shape from Detto Mariano's weird musical ideas and develops them through a completely new soundscape. This is the definitive accomplishment of a band who is able to melt sonic elements from the '80s, such as new-wave and synth-pop, with materials coming from the previous decade. This is truly a new musical experience that shows how the spirit of Italian progressive music (rock, jazz, libraries, film soundtracks) can resonate between past and present. A total blast! Really!

ELEKTRO HAFIZ Elektro Hafiz CD
Pharaway Sounds are proud to present the first solo album by Elektro Hafiz, an incredible blend of Turkish psychedelia, funk and grooves. Elektro Hafiz is a musician, born and raised in Istanbul, who has since moved to Cologne, Germany. Already well known in Turkey, he can look back on 20 years as a professional musician. With his former band Fairuz Derin Bulut he created and released three albums, which represent a milestone in the Anatolian psychedelic rock music of the second generation in Turkey. Elektro Hafiz has shown and proven openness to various and sometimes contradicting music styles by mixing eastern instruments like the electric saz, darbuka and finger cymbals with different genres. He loves to play with contrasts and create new compositions from there. This open and experimental approach is still his trademark, as well as his charming provocative style that is complemented by a healthy dose of humor. His diverse compositions are heavily influenced by his Anatolian roots, which are reflected in his instrument of choice, the electric saz, in most of his pieces. A further ingenious characteristic of him is using the electric guitar as a rock instrument while at the same time applying the Anatolian harmony system, or scale. Elektro Hafiz, his first solo album, showcases a more open and progressive format to his main base influence - the Anatolian psychedelic music. On this album he played a lot of different instruments by himself and also invited artists from different countries such as Kenya, France, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria and Germany to contribute. There are nine songs on this album and except for one cover song, all lyrics and the music are written by Elektro Hafiz.

BODY SCULPTURES A Body Turns to Eden LP
The formative element is the collaborative pact between Sweden's Northern Electronics and Denmark's Posh Isolation. The aesthetic singularity of the project is owed to the distinguished backgrounds of the five contributing artists. Each perspective entails a varying set of working methods and sonic preferences, though it is the sensitivity with which the diversity of these practices are framed in Body Sculptures that assures the project its own space. Jonas Rönnberg is the co-owner of Northern Electronics and is involved in the projects Ulwhednar (with Abdulla Rashim) and Dard Å Ranj Från Det Hebbershålska Samfundet. Erik Enocksson is a highly regarded Swedish composer who has scored countless independent productions. Frederikke Hoffmeier's industrial and experimental project Puce Mary has been the subject of much veneration in recent years. Ossian Ohlsson is from the industrial outfit Vit Fana. Loke Rahbek is the co-founder of Posh Isolation and a member of Damien Dubrovnik and Lust For Youth. The combinations of acoustic and electronic instrumentation, the soiled traces of genre, and the mixed modes of experimentation, are pitched here as an eternal requiem, letting the play between the project's orthodox and unorthodox methods reflect a sharp fatalism.

DE BEREN GIEREN One Mirrors Many LP
The release of One Mirrors Many on SDBAN ULTRA marks the first edition on vinyl of De Beren Gieren's outstanding latest album. The record came out to huge critical acclaim in 2015, but never made it to wax until the Ghent based imprint fell for it. De Beren Gieren is a trio of explorers and improvisers that debuted in 2011 and quickly made a name for themselves in the Belgian contemporary jazz scene. One Mirrors Many is their fifth album, and the first one in which the band experiments with incorporating electronic analog elements to their sound. Analog effects, tape loops and contact microphones are used and adapted to their instruments. During the live performance, the electronic gear is triggered live by the musicians to accompany De Beren Gieren's compositions and improvisations. This approach not only resulted in a great deal of excellent international reviews, it also established De Beren Gieren's reputation of the most adventurous and influential jazz act around. SDBAN Records started off as a sixties and seventies compilation and reissue label, with label boss Stefaan Vandenberghe's impressive personal vinyl collection at its core. The very first release was a milestone right away. The acclaimed Funky Chicken: Belgian grooves from the '70s (SDBAN 001CD, SDBAN 002CD) compiled the best funk tracks from the Belgian Seventies, a genre and era overlooked by many. The label also released reissues and retrospective compilations from the likes of André Brasseur (SDBAN 004CD, SDBAN 004LP) and Koen De Bruyne (SDBAN 003CD, SDBAN 003LP). After two years of digging dusty crates, SDBAN broadens its horizon and starts focusing on contemporary talent as well. SDBAN Ultra is the sister label focusing on today's lively jazz and funk scene, which is simply too exciting not to be explored.

Upon meeting producer Michel Dickenscheid, they were offered a deal: the band would help Michel to build a new recording studio in exchange of free studio time with the intention of recording their first album, which would be produced by Michel. So they built a state-of-the art studio with their own hands and soon after recorded S to S. Mirco switched from bass to guitar so they recruited a new bass player, Picci Salvatore, who abandoned the band just after the recording sessions. A friend of the band played occasional keyboards and Michel, the producer, played sax on "I'm Fool", the most psychedelic sounding song of the album, similar to early Hawkwind. The rest of the songs are prime examples of pure hard rock featuring layers of fuzzed-out guitars and killer riffs by Fulvio, a monstrous sound created by producer Michel using primitive homemade pedal effects and up to four guitar overdubs. The album was completed in early 1977 but remained on the shelf until the following year. The band members were very pissed off when they received the albums from the pressing plant and discovered that their manager had included a logo with Sig runes lettering in the cover without consulting them. Only 300 copies were pressed on their own Overcome label. Remastered sound. Insert with detailed liner notes by Pascal D'Hooghe and rare photos. Highly recommended to anyone into Raw Power era Stooges, Back in the USA era MC5, Pink Fairies, early Motörhead, Hawkwind.

S3A (SAMPLING AS AN ART) Code 3711 EP 12"
S3A (Sampling As An Art) is house project by Max Fader based on the idea that electronic music is a blend of different cultures and music. Started in 2001 when Max began jamming on analog machines and samplers with different projects from techno (FriendShip Connection) to S3A. It is through S3A that he expresses his taste for soul and house music. Similar to MCDE, Floating Points, he uses the process of sampling as a basis to color his music with sounds of all his inspirations. Code 3711 EP is the perfect definition between underground house music and dancefloor efficiency.

BAL 5000 out of Budapest, Hungary, presents For Kid Caprice EP. His sound ranges from disco to techno, tastefully touched with indie and Balearic. The title track, "For Kid Caprice" heralds a soulful bass line, easy house stabs, light hearted keys, gently swung percussion and sparkling disco licks. "Dub Version" steps the energy up a notch with its growling lead and steady lathered groove. "Farewell My Lovely" is melancholic yet uplifting, melodic lines with rolling bass giving it a live synth-pop feel. "Wake Up! Its Monday!" is bouncing and joyous with a chunky bass at its core.

EXCELLOS, THE Rise Up CD
The Excellos - Stompin' rockabilly and blues bop played hard and dirty. The Excellos deliver a solid brand of rockin' blues that'd be rough, tough and hard to bluff for any other band raised this side of the pond. Gaining their name from the famous 1950's American blues record label, they play with the authority and gusto of a blues band that grew straight out of the Mississippi mud. Hailing from good old London these guys have wowed the crowds at many blues and rock'n'roll joints the world over. Active for a good many years the line-up revolved around main man Craig Shaw (vocals, guitar, harmonica). A debut album was released in 2009 through London-based Rollin' Records. This album as well as several 7"-es cemented their reputation as one of the hardest rockin low down dirty rockin-blues combos on this planet. A new line up consisting of Craig Shaw (vocals, guitar, harp), Garry Tyrrell Lynch (drums & bass) and Jake Allen (guitar & double bass - himself being a celebrated wild recording artist) finally recorded a bunch of tracks at Denmark Studios, Maidenhead, UK of which twelve made it onto the new album Rise Up! It took them seven years, but it was worth the wait. Again The Excellos launch into some truly rockin' R&B that really goes for the jugular.

TELEBOSSA Garagem Aurora CD
With just their second album, Telebossa have successfully created their own musical language, an achievement that often takes others a lifetime of work. While their 2011 debut album (STAUBDIG 011CD/STAUBANA 005LP) saw Berliners Chico Mello and Nicholas Bussmann exploring the bossa tradition through role models such as Antônio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso, and João Gilberto, their mixture of Brazilian-style elements and new music has now become a model in its own right. This time the duo is supported by one of the greats, Van Dyke Parks, best known for his collaborations with Brian Wilson (with later collaborators ranging from Joanna Newsom to Skrillex). "Discover America," Parks's mission statement from the 1960s (and the title of one of his rare solo albums), is now emblazoned on Telebossa's flag, in a testament to bossa nova's detour through the USA, which led to its inclusion in the canon of music history. Cello and guitar have disappeared from the Telebossa sound, replaced by vocals and player piano. And throughout, it is Chico Mello's delicate, fragile voice -- in the best bossa nova tradition -- which maintains the connection to the musical homeland of Brazil. However, the main theme of the album is also the classic conflict and cooperation between man and machine, represented by a juxtaposition of the almost inhuman perfection of the woodwind ensemble Aventure and Winfried Ritsch's pleasantly warm piano robot, Der Automat, programmed with unprecedented delicacy by Bussmann. And in the middle of it, the Chico Mello's vocie alongside Bussmann's cool, technoid electronics. The texts of "metaphysical engineer" Fernando Pessoa, who described the entanglements of technology, metaphysics, and corporeality at the beginning of the 20th century, perfectly complement the physical-mechanical musical interplay. Bussmann and Mello have landed a major coup at only their second attempt -- way beyond hype, ingratiation, and eclecticism for the sake of eclecticism. In short: Telebossa have arrived.

PURPLE IMAGE Purple Image CD
Cleveland's Purple Image faced an uphill climb in an era and country that expected "negro" music from its "negroes": In a Hendrix landscape, young, black bands had slowly started to emerge from the soul neighborhoods and R&B backdrop. Purple Image traded on a thumping, harder-than-Parliament psychedelic noise fortified by powerful group vocals and the twin guitar attack of Ken Roberts and Frank Smith. Aside from their singles and super rare album, they managed only a few profile gigs with the likes of Steppenwolf and Country Joe as a local support act. However, along with bands such as Black Merda, Fugi, Pure Hell and Death, Purple Image would inevitably lay the foundations for future black crossover acts such as Fishbone, Bad Brains, Living Colour. Stoned Circle proudly presents the intoxicating head sounds of Cleveland's psychedelic upstarts. Equipped with the essential period quota of fuzz, wah-wah and organ, their sound could best be described as: "purple with yellow flashes". Professionally re-mastered original sound recording with expansive liners and rare archival photos.

BEAT OF THE EARTH Beat Of The Earth CD
After being discovered by fans of '60s underground psychedelia in the late 1980s, the sole self-titled 1967 album by Orange County band Beat Of The Earth has grown into a classic within the field, in spite of its rarity. The improvisational music on the album cannot be easily categorized, but most would agree that it represents a unique link between mid-1960s California and the droning acid rock of the later era. From a preternatural surf-era 45 and a local b-movie soundtrack, Phil Pearlman's ascent (or descent) presents a fascinating slice of music history for anyone to chew on. Unbeknown to Pearlman and friends, they had unleashed a primal head record that astounds still. Recorded in 1967 in Hollywood with legendary producer Jim Sidore, Beat Of The Earth's legacy remains as fresh and inventive today as it did in 1967. Stoned Circle proudly presents a collision of vision and artistry. Professionally re-mastered original sound recording with expansive liners, interviews and rare archival photos.

HASHISH A Product of Hashish CD
The long-awaited debut album from Hashish. Top-class psychedelia, taking the genre to a new level with a sophisticated approach to Afro-funk grooves accompanied by dreamy, playful melodies that range through a spectrum of Scandinavian occult psychedelia, minimal synth, surreal electronic soul disco, and rare groove. Some have described Hashish as a project that picks up what Goat started. Welcome to tomorrow. The sounds transport the listener into a forgotten world where the future looks different from what it became. On his soft, subtle island capped with clouds of cool fire, Pan weaves his teachings with the wind and the sun, raining sacred melodies on the hearts and minds of humanity and bestowing desperate loves and yearnings with songs of sainthood and madness. Transient temples of the flesh, laughing at death, clothe our lives in fire. On rippling altars of skin we sensual magicians worship bright burning desire. Upon release the album sky rocketed straight into #1 on the official Swedish vinyl chart. CD housed in dayglo digipak.

Eschaton is Ancient Methods & Orphx. For this project they use their combined hard-edged industrial palette to produce a frighteningly convincing apocalyptic prophecy. As the second product of this collaboration, Eschaton II has taken a more varied, yet ever menacing turn, moving between the raw and punky energy of "Answer My Prayer", and the droney shamanic mysticism (reminiscent of some early Ancient Methods releases) of "No Other Gods Before Me". "Those Who Obey" strikes relentlessly like an archaic battle anthem, while the slow build of "Deus Irae" gradually progresses to the climactic thrashing promised in the preceding tracks.

BROTZMANN/HEATHER LEIGH, PETER Ears Are Filled With Wonder LP
"Ears Are Filled With Wonder, the debut release from the duo of pedal steel player Heather Leigh and reedist Peter Brötzmann, blows the old adage about improvised music somehow not being best appreciated via the recordings to beautiful pieces. This is a music that demands re-visiting, that seems to alter, slightly, every time it is played, with new details emerging, new relationships of tone and style, new romance, even. Recorded during a mammoth stint in Kraków, Poland, where Brötzmann and Leigh played as part of big bands, trios, quartets, and duos, this duo performance represents the diamond heart of the sessions, an improvised set that bears little relation to what either of the players has achieved outside of its prodigious gravity. We mentioned romance and really Ears Are Filled With Wonder, a play on a line from the poet Kenneth Patchen, showcases the full reach of Brötzmann's rebel lyricism, his lover man style, now smoky, seductive, late night, now roaring and vibrating with energy. Leigh plays it extremely subtly, sometimes fixing on the most suggestive detail and from there spinning luscious webs of repeat-time bliss that make for some of the most psychedelic and otherworldly settings of strings and horn. Elsewhere the two of them tear the roof off with tactile fuzz and horn ascensions. It's a music of organic depth, of endlessly evocative unfolding, as themes bloom and sigh and disappear and arise and it feels curiously out of time, even as both players push their instruments into futuristic configurations. As such it doesn't sit neatly in either players' extensive catalogs. . . . Ears Are Filled With Wonder is a coming together of two of the most original voices on their respective instruments and the title reflects the joyful uncovering of a whole new way of listening and relating. Indeed, it might well be the first ever freely improvised electric pedal steel and saxophone duet ever put to tape. Either way it is one of the most startlingly beautiful combinations of players and temperaments to orbit the European jazz scene in years. And this is only the beginning. So hold tight." --Moshe Idel, Ronda, Spain, February 2016Heather Leigh: pedal steel guitar. Peter Brötzmann: tenor saxophone, bass and B-flat clarinet, tárogató. Recorded November 8, 2015, in Kraków, Poland.

Their fifth album finds the band in a studio again, with time and the desire to try something new. Seven compositions in the distinctive, strong Full Blast nature get an exciting electronic treatment by Michael Wertmüller (with electronics by Gerd Rische, recorded months before his death in October 2015) during and after the recording. For mixing the band decided to work with Gareth Jones (well-known for his work with Einstürzende Neubauten and Depeche Mode), whom they have used with Pliakas's band Steamboat Switzerland before. IONATA, MAX Rewind CD
This CD is a co-release from Via Veneto Jazz and Jando Music. Italian saxophonist Max Ionata is among the leading players in the contemporary jazz scene and releases his thirteenth album Rewind; his fourth recording produced by Via Veneto Jazz. With Rewind Max Ionata marks a turning point and repositions himself at the head of an entirely different ensemble: a Hammond trio. The group features an exceptional array of talents, comprised of master musicians of international stature with whom he established a remarkable synergy during numerous concerts in the past few years; namely the organist Alberto Gurrisi and the premier Dutch drummer Frits Landesbergen - also considered one of the best vibraphonists in Europe. This album truly represents a rewind - a transition veering from his traditional path - where Ionata starts anew with an abundance of creativity and bold stylistic innovations. An energetic swerve following an intense artistic career during which Max Ionata performed both as leader and as a special guest at international jazz festivals and clubs, collaborating with the greatest musicians in the world. The album contains two jazz standards, one song composed by Frits Landesbergen and arranged by Max Ionata, and six original songs Ionata composed at the piano in August 2015, at his house in Abruzzo. A time during which he intensified his musical research, starting with his great passion for American modern hard bop, unveiling new layers of that musical genius and intuitive melodic sense that distinguishes his music. Of the nine songs in the album, six are autobiographical: "Drum" is a tribute to the great Italian trumpeter Marco Tamburini, with whom Max shared key moments in his musical career; "Bob's Mood" is inspired by Bob Mintzer and his unique style of composing; "Mr G.T." (with Amedeo Ariano at the drums and Frits Landersbergen on the vibraphone) is dedicated to his friend and colleague Gege' Telesforo, who inspired Max with his unique way of experiencing the stage and with his passion for funk. "North Sea" is a ballad, played on the soprano sax, enthused by the coastal landscapes; "Sunflower" stems from the effect of the intense colors of Van Gogh's sunflowers. Antonio Carlos Jobim's pulsing and rhythmic "Chovendo Na Roseira" and George Coleman's "Amsterdam After Dark" are a few featured covers. "At Vic's" is written by Frits Landerbergen and dedicated to one of the greatest musicians in jazz, Victor Feldman.

LARAAJI & SUN ARAW Professional Sunflow 2LP
"Professional Sunflow is the first-time collaboration between Laraaji & Sun Araw, two colossal forces in contemporary electronic music. Laraaji's musical radiance has continued to shine brightly over four decades since being discovered by Brian Eno in New York's Washington Square Park in 1979. Sun Araw emerged out of Los Angeles' experimental scene in 2008 with transformative releases on a variety of trend-setting labels (Not Not Fun, Drag City and more). The live performances on this double LP - recorded in Germany and Switzerland - combine prewritten elements and improvisation. Laraaji's soulful vocals and signature instrument, zither, blend beautifully with the free-floating rhythms of Sun Araw's Cameron Stallone's (guitar / keyboards) and Alex Gray (computer synthesis) to shape Professional Sunflow's unique sound: dreamy layers of percussion, ambient textures and vibrant melodies. W.25TH is proud to present Professional Sunflow as our inaugural release. As a sub-label of Superior Viaduct, W.25TH will focus on inventive sounds from current artists."

KEL ASSOUF Tikounen LP
Dragging rock drums, cutting guitar riffs, and Tamasheq chants -- this is the sound of the new Tuareg generation. Life in an urban context and the connection with the Saharan culture define Kel Assouf's album Tikounen. Influenced by Led Zeppelin and today's modern rock music, the group create a heavy sound that blends with traditional Tuareg music. The album is about peace, equality, and respect for other cultures. Music is the band's weapon, with which they stifle the noise of missiles and rockets. It is the band's cry out for a better world. Kel Assouf's name translates from the Touareg Tamasheq language to both "those with nostalgia" and "sons of eternity." The group came together around the exiled Touareg musician Anana Harouna in Brussels in 2006. From the beginning, Kel Assouf built its identity around two central ideas: the promotion of Touareg culture and the struggle against discrimination. With this album, Tikounen (the title of which translates to "surprise," Kel Assouf want to express the stupefaction and perplexity created by a world where war, injustice, and pollution are running wild. With one foot in the desert and the other in the urban jungle, Harouna writes about the Sahara and everyday life in both Niger and Europe. Using short phrases similar to Japanese haiku, Harouna sings his poetry about humanity and respect. The result is a powerful sound with trailing drums, precise guitar riffs, and singing in Tamasheq. Since the band's 2010 debut, Tin Hinane, Harouna has introduced a new formation that was completed by the arrival of Toulou Kiki, who played the protagonist in Abderrahmane Sissako's acclaimed 2014 film Timbuktu. She enriches the feminine tradition of the Touareg culture. The Tunisian producer and musician Sofyann Ben Youssef invigorates the album by crafting a hypermodern sound on the edges of today's Touareg music. The African trance rhythms played by rock musicians transport listeners to a dancefloor somewhere between London and Niamey -- a powerful groove machine!
