BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Methodrone 2LP
2016 repress. Released on 180 gram blue vinyl. Deluxe gatefold with printed inner sleeves. 2007 release -- originally released in 1995. Redolent with the spirit of such high priests of effects and delay as Loop, Spaceman 3, and My Bloody Valentine, not to mention a fair dollop of the Jesus And Mary Chain, Methodrone clearly is the sum of its influences. Thankfully, BJM does a very solid job with them throughout the album's course of over 70 minutes.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Bout des Doigts 10"
In March 2016, Anton Newcombe gathered Dan Allaire (drums), Collin Hegna (bass), Joel Gion (tambourine), Ricky Maymi (guitar), Ryan van Kriedt (guitar) together in his Berlin studio to record the two tracks on this 10". "Bout des doigts" features vocals by Friederike "Rike" Bienert; "Fingertips" features vocals by Tess Parks. Through all of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's numerous "ups and downs" (some of which have been famously sensationalized in the media), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective is frontman Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe.

FERRARO, JAMES Rerex 3LP
Aguirre Records present a reissue and the first vinyl release of James Ferraro's Rerex, originally released in 2009. James Ferraro is an experimental musician, composer and virtual atmospherist born in Bronx, New York. Ferraro has released material under a wide array of aliases, and was a member of the Californian two-piece avant-garde project The Skaters. His album Far Side Virtual (2011) was chosen as "Album of the Year" by the UK's Wire Magazine in 2011. Ferraro has been producing small runs of releases on cassette, CD-R, and VHS with a wide variety of styles all representing different dreams of a demonic mind tower spanning from freak flesh bodybuilder atmospheres to ambient modern world/psych. First on New Age Tapes and later on MuscleWork Inc., self-run cassette/CD-R labels primarily used for releasing small runs of his solo work. In the summer of 2009, Ferraro composed and recorded the "Summer Headrush Series" in Antwerp, Belgium for Musclework Inc. The series is loosely based on visualizations that came to mind while receiving self-induced hypocapnia (aka, choking oneself) or as it's commonly called "free fall". The albums being representatives of the free fall head space. Other albums from the Headrush Series are: Body Fusion 1 and 2, iAsia, Wild World, Son of Dracula and Hacker Track. The Rerex album is vintage hypnagogic Ferraro and with its length (almost three hours), it may be considered a "magnum opus" of his. Using cheap casio keyboards, loops, effects and difficult to trace samples, Ferraro creates a slightly haunting but oh-so beautiful musical world. Please use headphones for a dynamic HD headphone experience. Artwork by James Ferraro. Mastered and lacquer cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg at Dubplates & Mastering. Lay-out by Jeroen Wille. Edition of 500.

CRAIG, IAN WILLIAM Meaning Turns to Whispers LP
Aguirre Records present Ian William Craig's Meaning Turns to Whispers. Ian is a trained opera singer and painter out of Vancouver, Canada. Over the last few years he has proved to be one of the most original artists active in the ambient/experimental genre. His debut A Turn Of Breath (2014) and the follow-up, Cradle For The Wanting (2015) received high acclaim. Meaning Turns to Whispers is a combination of piano improvisations and FM feedback loops, recorded over various winters from 2009 to 2011 and edited down, manipulated and degraded to reveal some of their hidden spaces. The discreet piano layers mixed with waves of white noise are intriguing making you long for more. Meaning Turns to Whispers is a record rooted in a gorgeous neo-classical tradition, but totally fucked up by tape manipulations that made it anything but pretty. For Craig, the use of reel-to-reels is a way of decaying sentimentality: any time his music has come too close to meeting his expectations, he uproots it, creating impervious walls or bursts of modest but stupefying noise. In choice moments on Meaning, you can hear Craig trying to imagine the lived lives of his inanimate instruments; you hear him beam down on the piano, its wooden infrastructure revealed, sounding like it has its own set of motivations. "I was living with my sister in Edmonton, and during the ridiculously cold winter, I gutted her piano and mic'd it up in a whole bunch of weird ways. I recorded probably twenty hours of material, and after listening to it I was amazed at how much it sounded like sentimental crap. At that point I was really trying to express something, and afterwards I thought the only way through would be to destroy the recordings, and that's what Meaning Turns To Whispers is. It's completely mangled to remove that struggle for expression. I realized at the end of that album that I didn't want to express, I just wanted to explore." Mastered by Sean McCann at Recital. Lacquer cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg at Dubplates & Mastering. Edition of 500.

AREA Arbeit Macht Frei LP
2011 release. Originally released in 1973. Arbeit Macht Frei is the debut album of the jazz fusion band Area. It is notable for featuring Patrick Djivas (which is now known better for his work with Premiata Forneria Marconi) on bass and Eddie Busnello on saxophone, which parted after the release of the album. According to the booklet the lyrics were written by Frankestein (which is an alias for Gianni Sassi), and the music was written by Demetrio Stratos, Giulio Capiozzo and Patrick Djivas except "Consapevolezza" (co-writing with Patrizio Fariselli). "Luglio, Agosto, Settembre (Nero)" became Area's first hit (even if most of the 7" censored the word "nero", which was a reference to Black September). It was only released as a juke box only item, and the b-side was the song "Miña" by Italian prog band Aktuala. On the posthumous live release "Concerto Teatro Uomo", Demetrio Stratos says that "L'Abbattimento Dello Zeppelin" was composed after a pub on which they were playing asked them to perform "Whole Lotta Love". They didn't know the song and played that one instead, and they got fired. Guitarist Paolo Tofani can be heard quoting the main riff during his solo. "L'Abbattimento Dello Zeppelin" was also released as a 7", backed by the title track of the album, but failed to hit any charts.

AREA Crac! LP
2011 release. Originally released in 1975. Crac! is the third album of the jazz fusion band Area. With this album, the band gained more popularity in Italy, thanks to songs like "L'Elefante Bianco", "La Mela Di Odessa (1920)" and "Gioia E Rivoluzione", which quickly became concert favorites. All songs were written by Tofani, Fariselli and Tavolazzi, except for "Area 5" which was written by Juan Hidalgo and Walter Marchetti. When touring for this album the band even played in Paris and in Lisboa (as documented posthumously in the album Parigi Lisbona released in 1976, while a live album from their Italian tour was released later that year).

It was recorded during their 1975 tour in Milano, Napoli, Rimini and Reggio Emilia was released later the same year. While side one of the album concentrates on live versions of studio classics, side two contains the title-track, a lengthy instrumental, which contains also the drum pattern of the song "Giro, Giro, Tondo" which appeared in the next studio album Maledetti (Maudits), and a live version of "L'Internazionale", the socialist anthem, which was released in a studio version as a single in 1974.

AREA Maledetti (Maudits) LP
2000 release. Originally released in 1976. Maledetti (Maudits) is the fifth album of the jazz fusion band Area. It can be considered a concept album: during the 20th century, an imaginary bank in which history is stored, loses data from the 15th century ("Evaporazione"), causing people forgetting how to govern the world. Some new hypothesis are formulated: power to old people ("Gerontocrazia"), power to women ("SCUM", which uses as lyrics a reading of a writing by Valerie Solanas, the chief of the feminist party SCUM, which stands for "Society for Cutting Up Men"), and power to children ("Giro, Giro, Tondo" and "Caos (Parte Seconda)"). "Il Massacro Di Brandeburgo Numero Tre In Sol Maggiore" is a fragment of Johann Sebastian Bach's third Brandenburg concerto. During the recording sessions of the album, Capiozzo and Tavolazzi left the band temporarily (noticeably they are absent on "Diforisma Urbano", "Giro, Giro, Tondo" and "Caos (Parte Seconda)") only to come back some months later. During these months in which they weren't in the band, the live album Event '76 (1976) was recorded at Milan's Università Statale. This was also the last studio album featuring Tofani on guitar.

EL MICHELS AFFAIR & THE SHACKS Strange Boy/No Surprise 7"
"El Michels Affair are back with a 45 of original material that features a new NYC band called The Shacks. The Shacks are made up of the enigmatic Shannon Wise, and studio wunderkind, Max Shrager. Their dreamy, voyeuristic sound was born in Michels' Queens, NY studio in 2015. And while they describe themselves as a rock band, don't expect the conventional kind. Side A 'Strange Boy', sounds like the Five keys met Neil Young and cut a record with Jane Birkin - but in English. A fuzzed out, heavy backing track with doo-wop background vocals create a peculiar, but perfect bed for Shannon's dead pan celebration of her 'Strange Boy', of whom she would gladly 'drink the kool aid from his cup'. Side B, 'No Surprise', is a perfect blend of El Michels Affair's hazy, cinematic soul and 60's pop ala Sonny and Cher."

BRSB puts the punch in the drums and the one drop in the arrangements, taking the original tune and updating it into something DJs and their audiences are going crazy for. 'Tender Trap', the flip side, starts out with a syncopated intro that will catch the ear of any hip hop fan for a number of reasons, then the tune turns into an all out funk burner, steel pans and guitars taking turns over the driving drums. RAIME Tooth CD
Raime presents their second album, Tooth. The widescreen melancholia of their 2012 debut, Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, gives way to an urgent and focused futurism, in the shape of eight fiercely up-tempo, minimal, meticulously crafted electro-acoustic rhythm tracks. The DNA of dub-techno, garage/grime and post-hardcore rock music spliced into sleek and predatory new forms. No let-up, no hesitation. Needlepoint guitar, deftly junglist drum programming, brooding synths and lethal sub-bass drive the engine. The production is immaculate, high definition. No hiss, no obscuring drones or extraneous noise: the music of Tooth is wide-open and exposed. The seeds of its supple dancehall biomechanics can be found in the self-titled 2013 EP by Raime side-project Moin, an ahead-of-its-time synthesis of art-rock and sound-system sensibilities, but Tooth pushes the template further, binding the disparate elements together so tightly that they become indistinguishable from one another. If Quarter Turns was an album that confronted total loss and self-destruction, even longed for it, then Tooth is the sound of resistance and counter-attack: cunning, quick, resolute; calling upon stealth as much as brute-force. At a time when so many pay lip service to experimentation without ever fully committing themselves or their work to it, Raime return from three years of deep, dedicated studio research with a bold and original new music: staunch, rude, and way out in front.

DIE KRUPPS Stahlwerkrequiem CD
In 1981 the Düsseldorf band Die Krupps (Jürgen Engler, Bernward Malaka, Ralf Dörper) released the Stahlwerksynfonie (Steelworks Symphony), a near-30-minute musical monolith of metal and guitar sounds with scattergun saxophone and shouts, held together by a monotonic bass line and stoic beat. The Stahlwerksynfonie proved a worldwide sensation as a nucleus of EBM and industrial rock. It stood as a direct descendent of Cluster's early works, although Die Krupps mastermind Jürgen Engler was as yet unfamiliar with the output of his purported antecedents. The Stahlwerkrequiem is a 2016 version of this landmark work, recorded with Engler's kindred spirits Mani Neumeier (Guru Guru), Jean-Hervé Peron and Zappi Diermaier (Faust), Pyrolator (Der Plan), and US post-rock musician Scott Telles. Jürgen Engler picks up the tale: "Listening to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music almost every day, the Stahlwerksinfonie turned out as unconventional, radical and dark as intended, with the shows usually ending in total chaos. Mission accomplished. As I started digging deeper into the past of early 70s German Underground music in the late 80s, I discovered that there were bands who had also tried to break away from the musical past and explore the possibilities of ambience and noise, like Cluster. Their song 'Live in der Fabrik' from the 1972 album Cluster II can be called the forerunner of what was to become Industrial in the early 1980s. Had I been aware of the track in 1980, I would have probably stepped back from the idea of doing the Stahlwerksinfonie. Fortunately I did not. Many years later, in the meantime having produced records and become friends with some of the original Krautrock artists, like Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru, Jean-Hervé Peron and Zappi Diermaier of Faust, Dieter Moebius of Cluster, Chris Karrer of Amon Düül, the idea grew on me to record an all new version of the Stahlwerksinfonie. What could be more inspiring than bringing together some of those free spirited minds? . . . The sessions had the same intensity as the recording session at Can's Inner Space studio in 1981, where the original Stahlwerksinfonie was recorded. After the tracks were mixed, we brainstormed over who would be the perfect addition to the project. We immediately thought of Jean- Hervé and Zappi of Faust, and also of an old friend from early Düsseldorf Punk days, Pyrolator. He would be the missing link between early avant-garde and the later electronic Die Krupps. Full circle."

KARG, JURGEN Elektronische Mythen CD
Jürgen Karg began his music career in the 1960s as a bassist for German jazz legend Wolfgang Dauner. It was not until the 1970s that he switched his attention to electronic music, launching himself wholeheartedly into exploring the genre and building up an extensive collection of synthesizers over a five-year period. His efforts culminated in the 1977 Elektronische Mythen LP, a mighty opus of experimental music that reveals new aspects every time it is played. This is its first reissue. The technology of the system Karg had constructed, based on sequencers and four EMS synths, was state of the art for the period and promised endless variations. But this in itself came at a price; operating such a complex system posed a serious challenge to the artist, which Karg had to face all by himself. EMS systems like this were few and far between, not least because of the expense of putting the whole thing together. Hence there was little chance to compare notes with other music makers. "The track 'Die versunkene Stadt' predominantly features material from my earliest attempts at digital signal processing, you can clearly hear the sheer diversity of sounds at play," Karg explains in the liner notes. "Usable musical results were saved on tape, in some cases edited later and then mixed with the aid of several variable speed two- and four-track tape recorders and an 8-track machine." Indeed, one finds oneself listening to a highly concentrated collage distilled from years of sonic exploration. Waves swell and stand, sample-and-hold cascades blubber, bells jingle, and wonderfully slow layers loop recursively, changing their tone over a period of minutes. There is a decidedly warm and organic quality to most of the sounds -- at times sounding remarkably like piano and electric bass -- while original synthetic sounds reappear over and over in the collage. On "Vollmond Selene" Karg worked primarily with permuted sequences of ring-modulated sounds. If the music he made with Dauner was upbeat and revved-up, then Elektronische Mythen is anything but. Quite the opposite. Jürgen Karg's music is deeply serious, as vexing as a jamais vu, yet absolutely beautiful. Elektronische Mythen is an album that fits like a puzzle piece between Wendy Carlos's first and second versions of her soundtrack for A Clockwork Orange (1971).

HOLY BALM Activity LP
Activity is the second album from Sydney trio Holy Balm. Already much-loved for their mutant, free-form house, Holy Balm give their most direct nod to the dancefloor yet on Activity. The pop hooks of "Fashion", the up-beat laments of "All Night Long" and the wayward rattles of closing track "Dancing Gravy II" harbor echoes of their 2012 debut, It's You (2012), but Activity is purpose-built for movement, bouncing subversive gestures off a brighter, bolder dance veneer. The band - Anna John, Emma Ramsay and Jonathan Hochman - list the themes of the album as "managing, sustaining, being energized by and connecting to your community through activity." These kind of urges can be draining for any artist/performer, but they are also essential to lasting, life-enriching creativity. Holy Balm triumph via transcendence, movement and fun, with the album's very title suggesting how best to listen to it - dancing in the bedroom, creating in the studio, sweating in the club, or just moving. Activity was engineered by Jonathan and produced by the band entirely in-house, with featured guest Marcus Whale (Collarbones) playing saxophone on "Fashion". Cover art, by Sydney artist, friend and long-time listener Robert Pulie suggests the phonetic/symbolic play of hand-painted commercial signage and visual communications - mouth, body and environment. Holy Balm on the album: "We think Activity blends our biographical voice with dance music tropes such as closeness, atmospheric changes, and personal empowerment, solidifying our sound. It's a dynamic space of play and experimentation that only just reared its head with the first album, but comes into its own on Activity". Holy Balm toured the US in 2013, have played the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Biennale, and have shared stages with the likes of Ariel Pink, Boredoms, Nite Jewel and Maria Minerva.

OSBORNE-LANTHIER AND GRISCHA LICHTENBERGER, JESSE Conversation Sur Lettres Mortes LP
Limited pressing, comes with a giant foldout two-sided 24" x 24" poster with additional art and liner notes. Conversation Sur Lettres Mortes is a conceptual album revolving around the relationship between Berlin's Jesse Osborne-Lanthier & Grischa Lichtenberger and the archaic apparatus of old cathode ray televisions and VHS units. It was first conceived as a live project for the Mutek/Elektra festival 2014 at the MAC in Montréal, QC Canada and now lands heavy on Cosmo Rhythmatic - the label curated by Shapednoise. Based on a series of conversations (excerpted in the liner notes) discussing the sets' obsolete status and the schism between tradition and trade, the A-side holds six cranky, skudgy and rhythm-driven creations framed by that familiar, ghostly, whining timbre of the cathode ray tube that would persist behind anything that was playing, or which would become distorted when you had to "tune" your set using baffling arrays of fiddly knobs like some modular boffin, when all you wanted was to watch some garbage without "snow" or streaking lines across the monitor. However, a few samples of dialogue aside, it's not a mere exercise in nostalgia; rather Osborne-Lanthier and Lichtenberger find strange, synesthetic life in these old and somewhat magical analog machines, working their spectral resonance and crankiness into creaking, contorted and deconstructed patterns that evoke a more contemporary sense of temporal dislocation. The remixers all seem to relish messing with the material, too. Low Jack offering a screen-scrambling flux of hellish sound-imagery ruffed-up with footwork rhythms and harpy and a Cronenberg-ian sort of body horror. Gabor Lázár's patented streaking filaments recall the sound of a set rapidly flicked on and off, marking one of his strongest, layered solo pieces. Rabit really pushes the envelope with a hyper, tumultuous stunner seemingly emulating an Einstürzende Neubauten live show. Mastered and cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy. Edition of 500.

Caution Radiation Area is the second album of the jazz fusion band Area and was released in 1974. This is the first album that contains the better known line up, with Ares Tavolazzi replacing Patrick Djivas on bass. This album is notable also for being the first one in which experimental music is introduced. For example "MIRage? Mirage!" contains a part in which the whole band can be heard whispering readings (for example a negative review of "Arbeit Macht Frei", a TV guide...), and "Lobotomia" (which means "lobotomy") is constructed using loud synth noise, with the clear intention to disturb the listener (as pointed out on the booklet). Quotes of opening themes of Italian TV programs are heard during the track. The lyrics for "Cometa Rossa" are sung in Greek. "Brujo" means "wizard" in Spanish.

RAMPAZZI, TERESA Images for Diana Baylon LP
The long and mesmerizing single piece of analog electronic music that develops over the two sides of Images for Diana Baylon (1972), the latest Die Schachtel "Silver Series" LP is a soundscape composed by Teresa Rampazzi for the artist Diana Baylon's 1972 exhibition at the modern art gallery Il Fiore in Florence, Italy. Diana Baylon (1920-2013), a friend of Rampazzi's, was a cross-disciplinary artist who transformed various materials (ceramics, glass, metal, paper, paintings, graphics, jewelry) into figurative and - later in the '60s - abstract and programmatic art objects. In the summer of 1969 she appeared - along with Alberto Burri, Pablo Picasso, Jean Dubuffet and Lucio Fontana - at the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto exhibition "Maitres Et Jeunes D'aujourd'hui". For the 1972 Florence exhibition, Teresa Rampazzi realized this long "soundtrack" (in her words) to be played in loop. Sounds were made with the analog equipment she used at the time. "The inner space of the exhibition" she wrote, "is made of sound, for the whole duration of the exhibition. The work is composed by a series of sound events, with both informal and aleatory features, in a continuous flux, and there is no planned predetermination in any of the various sections. This choice has been made for the sound space to adjust to the sculptor's plastic and loose images." Immagini per Diana Baylon was in fact the third time Teresa Rampazzi realized music for an exhibition. The first was also the very first experimental composition that Rampazzi and Ennio Chiggio composed in 1965, a sound collage for the opening of an exhibition of the Gruppo Enne at the International Biennale d'Arte in Venice. The second soundscape piece, "Environ" (1970), was realized for the presentation of a 360 degree round modular couch in foamed resin designed by Chiggio, presented at a furniture shop in Padova in 1970. The piece is featured on the Die Schachtel Musica Endoscopica LP by Teresa Rampazzi released in 2009 (DS 009LP). Immagini per Diana Baylon is the eighth LP release in the Die Schachtel "Silver Series" dedicated to the pioneers of early Italian electronic music. Limited deluxe vinyl LP edition. Silver printed cover with silver-foil print, with a red inner sleeve and booklet. Edition of 450.

Finally, Dino Sabatini closes the EP on a dreamy piece of broken-beat where beautiful glowing drones command attention. 180 gram vinyl with handmade covers by Nils Atland. Edition of 500.

FENNESZ & JIM O'ROURKE, CHRISTIAN It's Hard For Me To Say I'm Sorry CD
Despite decades of activity and having crossed paths in various collaborations, this release presents the first-ever duo recording from two of the most highly regarded citizens of planet experimental electronic. Individually, Jim O'Rourke and Christian Fennesz have been responsible for numerous legendary works that merge the traditional avant-garde with contemporary sensibilities. On It's Hard For Me To Say I'm Sorry these giants of experimental electronic practice come together for an immensely powerful sonic experience. The signatures of both O'Rourke and Fennesz cohabit this release, with O'Rourke's gurgling harmonies swimming among the shimmering frequencies and strummed melodies produced by Fennesz. The two tracks situate themselves as a warm electronic adventure; simultaneously radical and comforting, these works shift from gentle sonorities to fully distorted explosions, all of which reside within a template of tension between musical and non-music matter. Timeless in execution and presentation, It's Hard For Me To Say I'm Sorry is a deeply rewarding sonic experience from two of the most romantic gentlemen active in experimental music today. MYTHIC SUNSHIP Ouroboros CD
Debut album from Copenhagen quartet, Mythic Sunship . The destination is transcendence alright, but the vehicle, ultimately, is assembled from decades of rock - where ferocious drum-pounding and thick, geezery basslines adds fuel to an endless pyre of blazed-out dual fuzz guitar action. This stuff is wild. Spiritually, the band seems connected to present day So-Cal psych-rock, but listening to Ouroboros, also reveals the band's strong ties to the Copenhagen underground scene: members of the band brushing elbows with the avant-garde noise of the record label Posh Isolation as well as the Mayhem venue. There's plenty of blissed-out riff-worshipping here, but there's also something slightly unsettling in the band's skyward travels - perhaps a longing for spiritual redemption. Maybe the road to satori isn't necessarily pretty after all. File next to: Amon Düül II, Earthless, Guru Guru, Travellin' Flower Band .

EGG, EGGS Little Sickie: First Signs of Infection LP
Egg, Eggs present Little Sickie: First Signs of Infection. "The A-side is a live recording of a very special Turners Falls performance, at which singer David Russell literally 'called it in' on Skype. Many audience members remarked how much more relaxing (not to mention relaxed) the band seemed without Mr. Russell in their midst. And that may or may not be, but this here is definite sonic evidence that the band played real well without David's physical hectoring. Lauri McNamara also calls in her electronic rinkery, but the rest of 'em - Ted, Scott, Sophie, Jen and Brett - provide a wiggling backdrop of nudist/dada minimalism. Shorn of all clothes, the four played in semi-darkness on an array of gadgets that would have made James Bond green with envy. None of the devices can actually be named here, since patents on all of them are pending, but you can hear their beauty. A sprong here, a plonk there, and above it all - a withering dither. The flip was recorded at the old Feeding Tube store with Olivia, Sophie, Scott, Ted and David, all fully dressed, and playing like they were a circle of overwound mechanical toys. What's it like being ready to pop? Just give this a spin and you'll know more than you ever dreamed possible. And that's what they call Little Sickie." -- Byron Coley (2016)

KID MILLIONS & JIM SAUTER Million Dollar Band/Bull Run 7"
"The extreme sonic textures of Borbetomagus' Jim Sauter sounds bitchin' in this kind of compressed environment. Playing in duo with the multi-directional thumping of Kid Millions, the sound is just a blaze of energy that expands in many known directions. Jim's tone goes from pure saxophonic terror to something that sounds more like an over-amped guitar to synth-like shrieking. WILSON, GARY You Think You Really Know Me LP
Repressed. Gary Wilson's monumental 1977 LP reissued with a glamorously shiny foil cover bearing the original cover art (care of Owen Maercks's well-loved copy), delicately laid out by Scott Allison. Which makes it, perhaps, the last copy you'll ever need. You Think You Really Know Me (also the title of Michael Wolk's 2005 documentary about Wilson) was Wilson's second LP, but the first he recorded as a vocalist, hewing to his own bizarre vision -- a syncretic collision of romance, new wave cocktail jazz, heartbreak, disco porn-soundtrack music, and experimental tape manipulation. Home-recorded in Endicott, NY, the album found a few fans when released, but subsequently became the exclusive purview of record collectors and the women who tolerate them. Beck namechecked Wilson in 1996, which made a few new people scratch their heads. And the album was reissued in 2002. Rediscovery followed, and records, the documentary, and some odd live shows. Most of Wilson's moves are stamped with his unique aesthetic, and are also documented on other three recommended Feeding Tube LPs -- Lisa Wants to Talk to You (FTR 081LP), Forgotten Lovers (FTR 065LP), and Music for Piano (FTR 192LP). But as bodacious as these three albums are, the real root of Wilson's muse is most obvious on You Think You Really Know Me. It is the sound of a 23-year old oddball from upstate New York wrestling with his demons and actually winning. There's nothing quite like it. And it offers a story of hope to every weirdo who hears it. Hallelujah! Edition of 500.

IGNATZ The Drain LP
"For the last decade, Belgian guitarist Bram Devens has been releasing solo recordings under the name Ignatz. A couple of cassettes have come out in the States, but most of his releases have been elusive imports. Thus, we have taken it upon ourselves to do a public service and release a domestic version of an LP that will appear on the (K-RAAK-K) label in Belgium. This must be something like the sixth or seventh studio album Ignatz has cut, and it's a remarkably solid slab of mysto-folk/blues invention. There are more vocals than noted on previous Ignatz slabs we've encountered, and they manage to remind us of everyone from early Townes Van Zandt ('The Watertower') to Karen Dalton covering 'Play with Fire' ('People in This Town'). The way Bram's voice lazily combines with the loose guitar playing sometimes makes the album sound like a mutant hybrid of early Jandek and mid-period Hurley. The rhythms and melodies go in and out of focus with a beautiful irregularity that demonstrate them to be the work of a true original. Playing what sounds like a mix of acoustic and lightly amped guitars, Ignatz hits Krazy Kat square in the bean with this one. And we all see stars. Tell Officer Pup the news." --Byron Coley, 2016. SURMAN, JOHN Westering Home CD
Fledg'ling are very proud to bring Westering Home to CD. Westering Home was originally released in 1972. John Surman plays everything on the album, drawing together many of the threads of his earlier recordings with the possibilities offered by technology (and his own prodigious musicality). "I took a break from being on the road. This was just around the time when mono had become stereo, and then - in a flash - multi-track recording became possible. I was fascinated by the possibilities of, say, three bass clarinets on different tracks improvising together. Plus I had a curiosity about 'radiophonics' and tape manipulation and Pierre Henry's musique concrete. So it was in that spirit that I started work on what was to become Westering Home." Surman was born in Tavistock, North Devon. He initially gained recognition playing baritone saxophone in the Mike Westbrook Band in the mid-1960s, and was soon heard regularly playing soprano saxophone and bass clarinet as well. Surman developed a fearsome reputation as a prolific collaborator and session musician, before recording a series of albums under his own name beginning with the eponymous John Surman in 1969. His relationship with ECM Records has been continuous from the late 1970s to the present; Surman has recorded prolifically for the label playing bass clarinet, recorders, soprano and baritone saxophones and using synthesizers, both solo and with a wide range of other musicians.

SURMAN, JOHN Morning Glory CD
At the time of its original release in 1973, Morning Glory, seemed a surprising departure for saxophonist John Surman. It seemed to owe more to the music being made by Miles Davis, Weather Report and Tony Williams' Lifetime in the USA or Ian Carr's Nucleus and Soft Machine in the UK than it did to the often abstract, free but determinedly acoustic music that Surman had pioneered up to that point. Hindsight tells another story. Morning Glory stands as both a consolidation of his work to date and, like the solo Westering Home (FLED 3093CD), it offers a signpost for his work in subsequent years. Surman chose his partners for the recording very carefully, drawing from his friends and trusted collaborators. In particular, Terje Rypdal on electric guitar and John Taylor on both acoustic and electric pianos allows for an expanded musical palette. The rhythm section of Malcolm Griffiths on trombone, Chris Laurence on bass and John Marshall's chattering drums lay down a remarkably elastic rhythmic counterpoint. All of these musical signatures would become even more evident in his later recordings for ECM. Re-mastering from the original master tapes supervised by John Surman.

Deetron are particularly fond of the analogous and sublimely swinging synth bassline of "Soulmakers". However, he modulates it into a wild, joyfully soaring sound artifact. The duo Pulshar drapes its remix in a warm dub blanket with many delays, soft strings and smoothly bouncing bass drums. The Spaniard Uner attends to the energetic, playful "Tangerine" and creates a powerfully vibrant house music track with a dark techno tendency. The remix of "Wisdoms" is a special matter of the heart since Mathias Kaden's brother in "grime" Daniel Stefanik draws the piano house anthem into a furious Detroit techno vortex.

WESTBERG, NORMAN The All Most Quiet CD
Anyone who has experienced Swans live on one of their recent tours will know who Norman Westberg is: the almost stoic, tall man, who coaxes rhythmic sounds from his guitar with an incomparably minimalist power and elegance. The play on words in the title can be applied to Westberg's own musical work, because whereas Swans are hard to surpass in terms of brute force, the artist's solo work is much more subtle, and therefore also quieter. The resulting juxtaposition between the dense metropolis of New York, where The All Most Quiet was recorded, and the album's minimalistic strains, open up virtual spaces for attentive listeners. The opening, nearly twenty-minute title track begins with a lucid echo-like and extensive sound that seems to expand spatially and then contract again. At the same time the piece is evocative of lighting effects: mostly the music is slightly cool but rather bright. Individual beams break open or darken the mood. The consistent subtlety of the collages provokes the increased attention of the listener and every sonic shift is consciously perceived. The track "Sound 2" begins with atonal and slightly bumpy delays, which become increasingly confused and develop an unpleasant undertow. It is a kind of clamorous minimalism combined with an ability to conjure up sounds from a guitar that hardly sounds like guitar that makes Norman Westberg's music so unique.

VA Infrastructure Facticity CD
From a sporadic late-nineties outlet for the work of label founder David Sumner aka Function and his contemporaries, Infrastructure has re-emerged in the last two years as a busy and consistent platform for modern electronic music. Re-launching with a collaboration between Sumner and long-time colleague Ed Davenport aka Inland. In the two years following, the pair have orchestrated 10 vinyl releases, including a debut album by Techno anonym Post Scriptum, two singles from young avant-garde composer Campbell Irvine, a double pack reissue of classic acid pioneer-tracks from Mark Archer's Trackman guise, a crossover single by Cassegrain & Tin Man, and more. Both Post Scriptum and Campbell Irvine released their debut material on Infrastructure; discovering and promoting new raw talent is high on their agenda. Now Infrastructure introduces its next milestone, Infrastructure Facticity, a compilation featuring 15 tracks by key artists, label colleagues and new faces. Infrastructure Facticity represents the foundations of what Infrastructure stands for - a manifesto for 2016 and beyond. Function, Inland, Function/Inland, Campbell Irvine, Post Scriptum, Cassegrain & Tin Man, Rrose, Efdemin, Vatican Shadow, Silent Servant, Blue Hour, Steve Bicknell and Cleric all featured, spinning a narrative ranging from lush, ambient electronics and post-club diversions, to contemporary club techno and back again. Infrastructure regularly works with up-and-coming artists on cover artwork. Respected young Swiss artist Julian Charrière provided the iconic greyscale cover for Post Scriptum's debut album, and London based photographer Guy Archard's work featured on Campbell Irvine's Reunion of Two Bodies Maxi. Now the celebrated British fine-artist Robert NcNally has been invited to submit original artwork for Infrastructure Facticity. Selected by Jake and Dinos Chapman to show work at the prestigious Flowers Gallery in London, and commissioned by Damien Hurst to provide work for his private collection, Robert's incredibly detailed large scale pencil drawings are attracting serious interest in the modern art world. McNally's cover image was selected from a series of works based on adapted antique post cards. Its anti-establishment, censorship-related overtones are clear to see, as is the stark use of contrast - thick layers obscure the fading original, re-appropriating it.

NARASSA Tensione Dinamica LP
Intervallo present a reissue from Amedeo Tommasi's Rotary Records label, Narassa's Tensione Dinamica (1974).The niche occupied by libraries in the history of Italian music is full of amazing stories, such as Rotary Record's, which is actually one of the most interesting and peculiar. The label, created and led by renewed composer Amedeo Tommasi, released seven albums in just one year - between 1973 and 1974 - of material ranging from futuristic experimentations to classic and jazz (the latter being one of the biggest passions of Tommasi). He wasn't just the boss, he also played piano and electronic instruments in all the records he released. He also took care of all the brilliant artwork (the original ones can easily be found online) and of pressing duties. The first three volumes of the series were released in 300 copies each, the other four in a humble press of 100 each: numbers that show how rare these records are nowadays, and how scarce their circulation was at the time. Tensione Dinamica by Narassa (an alias of Sandro Brugnolini), is the first of two Intervallo releases dedicated to Rotary's experimental vein, the other being Farlocco's Tecnologia (INTER 006LP). This lost gem by the duo Brugnolini/Tommasi is a work ahead of its time - pretty much as it happened to the almost-twin album Tecnologia. It's characterized by a lighter use of technology and a more traditional approach. Creative tension (be it static or dynamic, like the first two song titles of the album) is always headed toward experimentation, even if touches of jazz and of the great tradition of Italian libraries can be found in the album. "Vacuum" (in two versions), "Conflittuale" and "Filterband" introduce electro touches, but the biggest surprise comes with "Spleen", the opener of side two: a perfect track to be sampled for hip-hop... for example, Mobb Deep. But Tensione Dinamica is also enhanced by the precious liquid piano and the synth mumbles of "Subtone". And let's not forget the invention of Stereolab in "Aflogelia".

FARLOCCO Tecnologia LP
Intervallo present a reissue from Amedeo Tommasi's Rotary Records label, Farlocco's Tecnologia (1974). The niche occupied by libraries in the history of Italian music is full of amazing stories, such as Rotary Record's, which is actually one of the most interesting and peculiar. The label, created and led by renewed composer Amedeo Tommasi, released seven albums in just one year - between 1973 and 1974 - of material ranging from futuristic experimentations to classic and jazz (the latter being one of the biggest passions of Tommasi). The first three volumes of the series were released in 300 copies each, the other four in a humble press of 100 each: numbers that show how rare these records are nowadays, and how scarce their circulation was at the time. Tecnologia by Farlocco (an alias of the great Stefano Torossi, meaning "fake" in italian) is the second of the two Intervallo reissues dedicated to Rotary's experimental vein, the first being Narassa's Tensione Dinamica (INTER 005LP). This album is one of the first instances of electronic libraries: a perfect example of how, sometimes, Italian libraries were a stunningly fertile ground for experimentation and foretaste of future sounds. It's not a blasphemy to say that the three versions of "Superpotenza", opening the album, are techno tracks before techno was even born. Or that the heavy mood of "Silicosi" (in two different versions), "Geosonda" and "Pressione" are prehistoric examples of industrial music. But there are, also, the experimentations of "Lavoro Veloce" (once again, in two very different versions) with its pure sonic sci-fi, and the electro-glitch of "Virus" and "Biodegenerazione". Probably the future was not what we meant it to be, but a part of it can be found in the grooves of this album.

KELLY, PAT Better Get Ready CD
Pat Kelly, out of all the Jamaican singers, was influenced most by the voice of American soul singer, Sam Cooke. As were indeed many of the singers from that time, few however could carry out this daunting task as well as Pat Kelly. His delivery was perfect and so was his ability to carry any song that came his way. Pat Kelly, born 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica, began his singing career in 1967 when he replaced Slim Smith as lead singer of The Techniques, his voice working so well with the impeccable harmonies of Winston Riley and Bruce Ruffin. Their first hit for the mighty Duke Reid stable was a version of Curtis Mayfield's tune "You'll Want Me Back" retitled "You Don't Care" which held the Number 1 slot in Jamaica for the six weeks. For this release, Kingston Sound have focused on material that Mr. Kelly had recorded with legendary Jamaican producer Bunny "Striker" Lee. A match made in heaven and one that produced some of their finest work. Tracks include "One In a Million", "One Man Stand", "Man Of My Word" and "I Started a Joke". So sit back and you better get ready for an albums worth of great songs sung and delivered as only the great Pat Kelly could.

WINTER, JOHNNY Woodstock Revival 10 Year Anniversary Festival 1979 CD
Johnny Winter, live at Woodstock Revival, 10 Year Anniversary Festival 1979 on 8th September 1979. There have been several high profile anniversary reunions for Woodstock 10, 25 and 30 years after this iconic event first took place, but one of the most interesting occurred when many of the original musicians converged on Long Island's Parr Meadows in Brookhaven, New York to celebrate the tenth anniversary. Unlike later events, this was a true reunion for many of the musicians who played the 1969 festival. Johnny Winter was undoubtedly one of the main attractions and festival high points and the combination of Winter with Bobby Torello and Jon Paris makes for immense impact both on the ears and the memory banks. Manfredi Romano aka DJ Tennis presents a release that is decisively "out of the box"; a small cathedral made of subtle shades and unusual EQ's, where ideas seduce and frighten. "Divisions" is led by Danish singer and guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg. "Chirality" is a deep, insistent, gelid voyage. Tennis' production skills are paired with Sophie Trudeau's (Godspeed You Black Emperor) string work. The original edits have been revisited by Roman Flügel, who masterfully rubs "Divisions"; turning it into a sensual, devious, laid-down affair. Plaid grace "Chirality" with their very own touch made of alien sounds and mutant rhythm architectures.

"CD in gatefold sleeve with two 30 page booklets with essay. Sometimes, a documentary maker is present at precisely the right moment to capture lightning in a bottle. It happened with essential punk doc The Decline of Western Civilization, it happened with Dylan's Don't Look Back and Chet Baker's Let's Get Lost, and it happened with 1976's Heartworn Highways. The iconic performance documentary saw filmmaker James Szalapski travel to Texas and Tennessee to capture the radical country artists reclaiming the genre via an appreciation for its heritage in folk and bluegrass and a rejection of the mainstream Nashville machine. Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Steve Young, David Allan Coe, Steve Earle and many others appeared on both screen and soundtrack, where musical highlights include Clark's brilliant 'Desperados Waiting For A Train', Young's stirring 'Alabama Highways' and Van Zandt's emotional 'Waiting Around To Die'. The hard living -- and hard partying -- lifestyles of outlaw country's figureheads are played out on screen as we visit Van Zandt's Austin trailer, see Coe play in Tennessee State Prison, join the gang in Nashville's notorious Wig Wam Tavern and witness a liquor-fuelled Christmas at Clark's house. No wonder the film's original tagline read: 'The best music and the best whiskey come from the same part of the country.' Outside of a couple festival screenings, the movie remained unreleased for five years after its completion, finally hitting screens in 1981 and finding a cult audience ever since."

FLOORPLAN Victorious CD
Floorplan is already well known as Robert Hood's house outlet, which this year evolves into a family affair with co-production alongside his daughter, Lyric. Victorious is the second Floorplan album and follow-up to 2013's Paradise. The new album itself is preceded by the double-headed single "Music"/ "Tell You No Lie". As Robert once again extends his minimal techno sound, he also returns his focus to house, disco, funk and gospel to the Floorplan show, which now takes a surprising twist. Having watched her father DJ the world, Lyric Hood comes center-stage alongside her father. "Hear my soul speak, is the only way I can describe the way I feel about Floorplan, (Victorious) music is in my soul, my blood, I eat and sleep beats, music, rhythms, it's in my DNA. So please, hear my soul speak." The Floorplan project first came to light in 1996 when Hood used it to announce his Drama imprint with the highly sought after Funky Souls EP. Launching with the heady house swirl of "Spin", Robert and Lyric then drop the deeper stylings of lead single "Music" which builds into a hypnotic, bass-driven anthem. Picking up on Hood's trademark razor-sharp percussion "The Heavens & The Earth" brings the Bible to the floor (with added funk) and "Good Thang" shows the strong influence of Chicago as a simple refrain turns into a house missile from the pulpit. "He Can Save You" continues the Chicago/gospel theme but with a more driving techno edge whilst "Mmm Hmm Hmm" marries powerful chords to trumpets, dynamic bass, booty refrains and skillful sampling creating yet another hands up anthem. "Ha Ya" has that stripped back minimal feel we all know and love and perhaps the closest we get to touch on the classic Hood sound whilst "Tell You No Lie" is pure, un-adulterated disco-string drenched fun(k) and already tearing down dancefloors as we speak. "Push On" takes us back to the tight, knife-edged percussion of Chicago's house vanguard, reminding of the tougher sounds of DJ International and DJ Deeon, DJ Funk and Boo Williams. "They Can Tell" kicks in with a no-nonsense, foot stomping kick drum as Floorplan chop up the vocal refrain into what becomes the main hook of the track and finally "Sun In the Sky" brings the disco back with yet another string-laden anthem to bring the Floorplan show to a fittingly, uplifting end.

KUF Gold 2x12"
LP version. Macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music's most exciting live acts, such as KiNK and Elektro Guzzi. So when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. KUF do just this with Gold. KUF is a three-piece, featuring keys, bass and drums, cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. The rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing R&B, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints. The bewildering thing about KUF is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. All vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid Tom Schneider melds, bends and squeezes in real time. With no artificial synchronization in place, Valentin Link on bass and Hendrik Havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyper-integrated real-time magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw MPC-based cut-up techno. The openers, "Gold" and "Princess", are full-on instances of the brightly burning world of KUF, with the other ten tunes never ever letting you down. All along, the Berlin based trio take their audiences through a full range of emotions and constantly shifting dynamics. The thorough integration of this extraordinary degree of sheer diversity into a unified experience is simply astonishing. But never forget this is a live band, and that's how anything here has been developed: live, in direct interplay. Seeing is believing.

SCHULZE & PETE NAMLOOK, KLAUS The Dark Side of the Moog Vol. 5-8 5CD BOX
"Complex re-release of the most remarkable and worldwide sought after series The Dark Side Of The Moog by German electronic pioneers Klaus Schulze and Pete Namlook (aka Peter Kuhlmann) in three slip lid boxsets, each with 5 CDs, incl. bonus material and new linernotes. The second box contains Vol. 5 to Vol. 8 and a bonus-CD with Klaus Schulze-tracks exclusively remixed by Pete Namlook. The relationship between Klaus and Pete and the exchange of ideas was unorthodox from the beginning of their co-operation, in that they rarely met personally. The most remarkable contacts they had were outside of their studios, for instance their concert of April 1999 at the Jazz Festival in Hamburg, which was released as an edited version on Dark Side Of The Moog, Vol.8- the interplay and chemistry between them is clearly evident. The influence Namlook had on Klaus's music in the middle of the nineties should not be taken lightly, because although Klaus dearly loved those early-analogue elements from his own music, they had become, to an extent, lost. It was Pete who fortified him to go back to the analogue charm of his early albums and it was Pete who supported him in the modification of his analogue instruments, leading finally to the epoch-making Schulze album from 1996 - Are You Sequenced?. And so a legendary series of recordings was born. Dark Side Of The Moog grew more or less unplanned to a sprawling, stately-sized series of eleven volumes recorded between 1994 and 2008, only ending with the early, tragic death of Pete on November 8th 2012."

REFORMED SOCIETY High Tension EP (Incl. Gathaspar Remix) 12"
British producer Reformed Society presents High Tension EP with a remix by Gathaspar. "High Tension" is a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel. It's a clear-cut, steady groove. Gathaspar's "Rausch Remix" is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub-aquatic feel. On "Volgende Halte", the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a haunting snippet. Rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove. "Orbiting Jupiter" centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

SOARES, ELZA The Woman At The End Of The World (A Mulher Do Fim Do Mundo) LP
LP version. Septuagenarian Brazilian music icon Elza Soares teams up with the cream of São Paulo's avant-garde musicians for an album of apocalyptic, experimental samba sujo ("dirty samba") that tackles the burning issues of 21st century Brazil: racism, domestic violence, sex, drug addiction and global warming. The Woman at the end of the World is Elza's 34th studio album and her first to feature previously unrecorded material, exclusively composed for her. Voted "Best Album of 2015" by Rolling Stone Brazil after its domestic release, it will now be released worldwide by UK based label Mais Um Discos. Over a sprawl of distorted guitars, squalling horn, taught strings and electronic shards, samba is savaged by rock 'n' roll, free jazz, noise and other experimental music forms. A true legend of Brazilian music Elza has an incredible musical oeuvre that stretches back over seven decades mixing samba with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and electronica, whilst her life story is a rags-to-riches-to-rags rollercoaster of triumphs and tragedies that has made her a voice for Brazil's repressed female, black, gay and working class populations. Her music career began in the late 1950s as she sung in clubs and hotels, sometimes being forced to perform off stage because of her skin color. The '60s was a career defining period with a run of classic albums for Odeon. After decades of hardships and artistic exploration, her latest muse is São Paulo's hyped samba sujo scene. Soares presents an album that walks a tightrope between post-rock and post-samba. "I knew this album would be a bold, modern sound" she says. "These songs are tense they do not allow you to relax". The album opens with "Coracão do Mar (Heart of the Sea)" with Elza reciting a poem from celebrated Brazilian modernist poet Oswald de Andrade. Title track "Mulher do fim do Mundo" uses carnival as a metaphor for the apocalypse and according to composer Romulo Froes "translates Elza's strength and indestructability". With The Woman at the End of the World, Elza forces the joy and sadness that personifies samba to confront the dirty truths of modern day São Paulo.

LAWRENCE Yoyogi Park CD
Magical, mystical, and straight from the heart; following Until Then, Goodbye (2009) and A Day in the Life (MUSIQ 046CD/180LP, 2014), the Hamburg-based art curator, DJ, and producer Lawrence presents Yoyogi Park, the third part of an album trilogy for Mule Musiq in collaboration with artist Stefan Marx. The album explores the intersection of Lawrence's own ambient productions, acoustic sound experiments, and the driving force of the dancefloor. The artwork shows a 360-degree view of Yoyogi Park in the heart of Tokyo, which Stefan Marx created for a fanzine for Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair in 2015. Beyond the gorgeous greenery of Yoyogi Park lies craziness and mystery, and behind Lawrence's abstract beats and compelling functionality lies a magical full-color palette of mind-expanding sounds. Some of the tracks on Yoyogi Park contain live samples of Sky Walking (Lawrence's band with Christian Naujoks and RVDS) and some incorporate field recordings of streets and parks, while other tracks are versions of previously released, dreamily sublime ambient tracks. A one-of-a-kind blend of varied, deep, widescreen, and star-crossed electronica, romantic and enchanting. Lawrence's excellent recordings seduce with in-depth house rhythm sensibilities while spreading otherworldly melodies. Once again, he produced these vividly immersive tracks on the road. Some he started in his cozy backyard studio in Hamburg; he crafted others between cities like Berlin, Buenos Aires, New York City, and Tokyo. They all share some analog warmth while spreading mystery and allure, coming together to form a compelling whole. And although the album is made for the dancefloor, its shimmering brilliance goes far beyond usual club music euphoria. Wonderful, compelling stuff that could be the perfect starting point for anyone interested in delving into Lawrence's unique world of intimate, subtly shifting grooves and tones -- an enchanting world where feelings unfold in rhythms and melodies.

LUNCH & MARC HURTADO, LYDIA My Lover The Killer CD
My Lover the Killer is the first full-length duo collaboration between Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado (Étant Donnés), who first worked together on the 1999 album Re-Up by Étant Donnés. My Lover the Killer features Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk), Ian White (Gallon Drunk), Mark Cunningham, We Are Birds of Paradise, and David Lackner. Lydia Lunch on the album's origins: "What began as a loose musical concept in the summer of 2012 became a prophecy written in blood by November of the same year. My Lover the Killer is a late night noir confessional. Sinister, sexy and mysterious, the music slithers, erupts and caresses the seductive vocals as they relay twisted tales rife with innuendo, promises and threats. The text is based on the murder/suicide of an ex-lover whom I had recently contacted for the first time in over a decade. Caught in the early fall hurricane which leveled the East Coast of America while enroute to Los Angeles, I had sent an invitation proposing that we meet for drinks. Two days later, during a alcohol fueled fight with his girlfriend about whether or not he should come to see me, he shot and killed her, called the police, turned the gun on himself, and died the next day on his 55th birthday. A tragic event, which My Lover The Killer attempts to make sense of. Each song is a rumination on the frightening effects of a mad love spun out of control and the haunting remnants of a lover who still stalks from beyond the grave." Shape-shifting nomad Lydia Lunch, a musician, writer, photographer, and performer, burst onto the New York music scene in 1977 with her seminal no wave group Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. She has since worked with a wide variety of collaborators, including Karen Finley; Hubert Selby, Jr.; Nick Cave; and Virginie Despentes. Marc Hurtado is a musician, performer, poet, painter, and filmmaker who cofounded the French duo Étant Donnés with his brother Eric in 1977. Apart from this duo and his solo project Sol Ixent, he has collaborated with many cult figures including Alan Vega, Genesis P-Orridge, Michael Gira (Swans), Gabi Delgado (DAF), Z'EV, Philippe Grandrieux, and Vomir.

Having been at the forefront of Spain's experimental music scene since the late 1970s, multi-instrumentalist Suso Sáiz formed the pivotal group Orquesta de las Nubes and studio project Música Esporádica, releasing a string of albums on Madrid's now cult label Grabaciones Accidentales, which was also home to groups such as Finis Africae, Mecánica Popular, and Ishinohana. A prolific producer, he has recorded with Spain's most singular popular musicians as well as with a number of luminary electronic and world music artists such as Steve Roach, Jorge Reyes, and Salif Keita. Odisea draws material from Suso's early solo works, including music from the rare cassette-only Confidencias as well as pieces from his more recent compositions, soundtrack works and previously unreleased tracks. An artist dedicated to experimentation, Suso's sparse compositions manifest a solitary and stripped back approach to making music. Fascinated by the possibilities of new technology he experimented with guitar loops, synthesizers, and drum computers creating a unique form of musical hypnotism absorbed by avant-garde/minimalist and non-Western musical influences. The most representative figure of Spain's now cult experimental scene, Suso Sáiz remains an exploratory musician in a musical universe that knows no boundaries.

Both the 12 minutes lavish groove-intricacy "Loose Joints" and the one, straight tittle titled "It From Bit" are Atom TM & Burnt Friedman 2016 originals, adding to the most compelling and witty electronic collaborative utterings to date.

VA Wake Up You Vol. 1: The Rise & Fall Of Nigerian Rock Music (1972-1977) 2LP
"The Western world was in the throes of peace, love and flower power as Nigeria descended into Civil War in 1967. The rock scene that developed during the following three years of bloodshed and destruction would come to heal the country, propagate the world-wide ideal of the Modern Nigerian, and propel Fela Kuti to stardom after the conflict ended in 1970. Wake Up You! tells the story of this time, pays homage to these now-forgotten musicians and their struggle, and brings to light the funk and psychedelic fury they created as they wrested free of the ravages of the late 1960s and created thrilling, original Nigerian rock music throughout the 1970s. This 'standard' 2LP set follows the now-OOP Record Store Day edition. It comes with a download card with full audio and a 104 page digital booklet (as a .pdf) filled with never-seen photos and detailed liner notes by Nigerian musicologist and researcher Uchenna Ikonne (Who Is William Onyeabor?; Brand New Wayo: Nigerian Boogie and Disco, etc.), with all tracks fully licensed from the bands themselves."

Answer Code Request presents Neume EP. "Neume" starts with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. "Meta" clocks in instantly, it's rhythm section setting the tone with broken beats while Answer Code Request slowly carves out more musical detail and textures with subtle command vocals, swelling synth pads and other chilling, atmospheric means. "Vis" is the EP's most protruding track: classic UK Garage shuffle rhythms and "Amen" breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percussion.

"Fantastic Planet" comes with a strong, continuous 4/4 bassline and organic percussion from start to end, further on dominated by hypnotic melody stabs and a swelling climax. Finally "As Above, So Below" follows more romantic and dreamy motifs using a mellow downbeat theme, it lets all squeaky sounds mesh nicely.

LP version. Song Sentimentale, featuring unique material on each format, was recorded on January 27-29, 2015, at Cafe OTO. Outside of the 2CD release Never Too Late But Always Too Early (2003) there has been scant documentation of one of the most dynamic pairings in all free jazz. Song Sentimentale rectifies this anomaly with a full-blown audio account of the breathtaking communicative heights obtained by these three legends of the living. Over three nights in January 2015, the trio seduced a winter-worn crowd with the kind of organic interplay only these three can conjure. Warm and urgent, the material unveils a wide range of techniques and emotions. This is music on the edge of itself; a living, breathing and existing force documented for repeated visits. Peter Brötzmann - tenor saxophone, B flat clarinet, tarogato; William Parker - double bass, guembri, shakuhachi, shenai; Hamid Drake - drums, frame drum, voice. TITUS OATES Jungle Lady LP
Out-Sider present the first vinyl reissue of Jungle Lady (1974) by Titus Oates. This is the first ever legitimate vinyl reissue of this progressive hard-rock private pressing from Texas, 1974. Excellent dual guitars, keyboards, melodic vocals, West Coast touches - think Allman Brothers, early ZZ Top, Wishbone Ash, Homer. Top notch pro-sounding recording and superb musicianship. Jungle Lady saw the light in two different pressings: the original white label Lips vinyl from 1974 is the first pressing, and the red Lips label is a remix done later in Nashville, possibly around 1975. This Out-sider reissue is taken from the remix version, as it was always believed to be "hotter" than the original pressing. One of the classics since the early days or rare psych records lists, championed by influential tastemakers such as Paul Major. "Personal fave with TX/West coast bar band mystique fulla spooky organ, hot guitar licks & warm vocals on the folk-rocky ballads. Has a seedy singles bar pick-up music undercurrent I dig & fantastic gatefold cover art" -- Paul Major. Master tape sound. Includes insert with detailed liner notes and photos.

CAL Homegrown LP
LP version. Out-Sider present the first reissue of Homegrown (1982) by Cal. This is a totally under-the-radar US private pressing from 1982 with '60s and '70s influenced psychedelic hard-rock full of distorted guitar and freaky synths with some mellowed-out folky moments. Cal - also known as "Cal Rock & Roll" - was a band formed in the mid '70s in New York by some veteran musicians from the club scene. The band is made up of Larry Calabrese on guitar & vocals, Andy Barone on bass, Jerry Joly on drums/vocals and Jeffrey Gaer on keyboards. Famous for their powerful live shows - one of their stellar moments was opening for Leslie West and Mountain - Cal secured a faithful fan base, especially among the biker crowd. In 1980, they recorded Homegrown, their only album. As the title suggests, it was self-produced by the band and recorded by Larry at his 8-track home studio. But unlike other similar private albums, there's nothing amateur here. This is a perfectly recorded & played effort, featuring well-crafted songs. There's lot of loud distorted guitar, Hammond, analog synths and some Doors influence on the vocals, especially on the lysergic "Couragous Cat". Homegrown was released in 1982 in an edition of 2000, most of which were discarded due to pressing faults. Also, the album was mastered at lower speed. This reissue has remastered sound with corrected pitch/speed. Soon after, Larry met Todd Rundgren at a recording studio and he expressed interest in the band and some of their songs. Famous record label Sugarhill were also interested in adding Cal to their roster but nothing came of it in the end. So Homegrown vanished into obscurity until some original copies were discovered by psych dealers and collectors in the '90s. "Despite the 1982 release date, this upstate NY album feels like vintage '70s stoner music, it's mostly mild hard-rock with some psych and prog moves" -- Aaron Milenski (The Acid Archives) File next to other psych misfits such like T Kail, D.R. Hooker, Marcus, Michael Angelo. Insert with detailed liner notes and rare photos.

CLOUD ONE Atmosphere Strut (New Disco Version - Remix - 1979) 12"
"Originally released in 1975, 'Atmosphere Strut' became an instant underground hit, cementing what was to become the signature sound for Patrick Adams -- or as many have referred to him since ? 'the master of the masterpiece.' This futuristic and ethereal disco cut released on Peter Brown's P&P label quickly became championed by Club DJ's throughout the Northeast after legendary radio personality Frankie Crocker broke the record on the New York Airwaves. Although Patrick Adams has had a string of hits in his career, 'Atmosphere Strut' remains a cult Classic for Disco aficionados. A mixture of modern sounds via the minimoog to an urban vibe at the time when parties happened in the streets of Harlem and parks in the Bronx. Add Sylvia Striplin's melodic chorus and you have yourself the perfect Disco Song. This Extended Disco-Mix from 1979 (On Queen Constance) retains all the qualities that made 'Atmosphere Strut' a classic, but optimizises it for the Club. More percussions and an up-tempo beat to make you fly away from the streets and straight into the Disco."

Much use is made of rhythms derived from gravity - that is, dropping and bouncing - embedded into microtonal, poly-rhythmic and deeply engaging structures. Their name was taken from the first line in King Crimson's song '21st Century Schizoid Man.' In the beginning, Iron Claw probably became the world's first Black Sabbath tribute band, as they incorporated the entire first Black Sabbath LP and single into their set. As they went on, their live sets included many originals as well as covers such as 'War Pigs,' 'Fairies Wear Boots,' 'Wicked World,' 'Green Manalishi' and 'Lady Whisky.' This collection of sixteen original studio recordings documents their existence from 1970 thru 1974 and was re-mastered for vinyl by Tony Reed and includes lyrics, liner notes and photos. NECRO DEATHMORT The Capsule CD
Necro Deathmort have created a monster, and it's both a malevolent and magical thing to behold. This two-man aural manifestation came to life towards the end of the '00s, starting originally, in the words of co-conspirator Matthew Rozeik "as an abortive attempt to do a 'regular' rock band, born from jamming in studio downtime when our drummer was AWOL" Drawing on influences ranging from Ed Rush & Optical to Old Man Gloom and from Autechre to Neurosis, he remembers that the unspoken objective for himself and cohort AJ Cookson was "to make electronic music that was as heavy as doom metal, with absolutely filthy bass." Following ten releases on Distraction and Extreme Ultimate, The Capsule is the band's first for Rocket Recordings, and it's a step yet further into the terrifying vacuum of space. Opener "In Waves" maps out rhythmic terrain somewhere amidst krautrock groove and techno relentlessness. It's not long before matters take a turn into the unearthly, with dreamlike extrapolations like "Mono/Serum" - Redolent of nothing so much as Mica Levi's other-worldly soundtrack to Under The Skin - Sharing space with the threatening momentum of the more overtly metallic "Moonstar". Yet at all times The Capsule is a work of fierce cohesion and compelling intensity. Whilst there may be three words for death in this band's initially playful name, Necro Deathmort have proven themselves well versed in infinite varieties of the macabre.

GIOBIA Magnifier LP
"Giobia celebrate an intense neo-psychedelic-rock, who is deeply inspired by the sound of the late sixties. Next to Guitars, Bass, Drums and Organ they use Sitar, Bouzuki, vintage Keyboards and Effects to create a colourful and swirling sound. Their vocals are often in the background to produce a more far out atmosphere. All that filled with love and passion for their music. A very tasty album and a true highlight. The new album Magnifier is ready to suck you into a lysergic vortex of exotic mantras and Sabbathian rituals. The sound of the new album is heavier and darker than the past records, but always unique, and at some moments will reveal the intimate bond that we've always had with the '70s Italian progressive. Giobia has been one of the most influential psychedelic bands in Italy over the last years. Seduced by the lysergic side of the '60s, by exotic mantras and the evocative power of space-rock, Giobiais a band from Milano, Italy with many facets and one only faith, that is to turn every encounter with sound into a psychedelic experience. Giobia - comes from an ancient pre-Christian festivity celebrated in Northern Italy when a big straw puppet resembling a witch is burnt as a propitiatory ritual towards the forces of nature. MARTIN, BILLIE RAY The Soul Tapes LP
LP version. Billie Ray Martin describes herself as "a kid from Hamburg's red-light district, who wanted to be a soul singer, but ended up playing repetitive machine music, while still trying to be a soul singer". Billie has never been easy to categorize. Clearly a soul singer, her career however has seen her mostly as a pioneer of house and electronic music, most notably her groundbreaking work with Electribe 101 and her seminal hit "Your Loving Arms". Her explorations have led her further into the worlds of ambient music and drum & bass among other areas of electronica. Her 2001 album 18 Carat Garbage had found her in Memphis, recording with Al Green's and Aretha Franklin's musicians, then adding cutting edge electronic sounds and textures to the production once back in Hamburg. The Soul Tapes is the natural conclusion and a 'first' for Billie: no electronic music this time. Billie realized her long-held dream of recording an album that is equally influenced by Hi-Records (Al Green, Ann Peebles, Willie Mitchell) as it is by '60s garage records. It is also not devoid of a certain country twang, and even Bo Diddley peeks through the door on one song. Billie Ray Martin and producer/writer Jon Tiven were introduced in New York in the mid '90s and had started drafting the odd song, together with Sally Tiven. Further writing sessions followed, until it was decided that there was an album of songs worth recording. Booked into New York's 900 Broadway Studio, Jon and Billie were thrilled to find themselves working where Keith Richards had recorded his first solo album. Under this omen Jon Tiven brought the musicians in, not least world famous drummer Simon Kirke. Jon's credits include albums produced for Wilson Pickett, Bobby Womack and Willie Nelson as well as numerous awards and Grammy nominations. It was not until 2014 that the opportunity arose to mix the album, re-record many of the vocals, add production and instruments and determine exactly the final sound of the album. The results are convincing and powerful and show once again Billie's refusal to conform to trends, preferring as she does, to create them. On The Soul Tapes, with the help of Jon Tiven on guitar, Sally Tiven on bass, Simon Kirke on drums and mix engineer Steve Honest, and a variety of guest musicians, Billie journeys through all things soul and rhythm & blues.

OISEAUX-TEMPETE Unworks & Rarities 2012-15 CD
This is the volume one of Unworks & Rarities, a new series compiling unreleased and miscellaneous pieces by Oiseaux-Tempête. Following their two acclaimed first albums on Sub Rosa (Ütopiya?, 2015 (SR 396CD, SR 396LP) & Oiseaux-Tempête, 2013 (SR 381CD, SR 381LP)), Unworks & Rarities is putting up more than a collection of outtakes. Since 2012, French "free-rockers" Oiseaux-Tempête have been making instrumental and experimental rock that's heavy, provocative, and in no way intended for just a casual listen. The band, formed in Paris, is the core duo Frédéric D. Oberland & Stéphane Pigneul beside drummers Sylvain Joasson, Ben McConnell & Jean-Michel Pirès. Their music was initially made alongside photographer Stéphane C. in order to document the existential conflict caused by the political and economic upheavals in Greece. For Ütopiya? the travels moved to Istanbul and Sicily, the group expanded with the addition of G.W. Sok (The Ex's former vocalist) narrating Nazim Hikmet's poems and Gareth Davis on bass clarinet, providing the food for its urgent energy and indomitable drive; still free, more punk, pursuing their sonic odyssey around the Mediterranean Sea. Including the same previous guests, Unworks & Rarities features also unreleased cosmic sessions with ondes martenot's virtuoso Christine Ott. More than mere music, the heft behind this project translates directly into the sound. It's not always dark and brooding, but it's definitely always potent. The landscapes they create through their soundscapes are always rich, stirring, full of color and texture, and entirely cinematic. What's more, and what's most important, is that it feels so human. Using, at times, audio realia from the times of turmoil, the sounds and the music work together to shine a light and lift heads towards it. Commanding more than just your ears, from guts to gray matter, Oiseaux-Tempête will hijack your insides. Pushing new boundaries, this opus crystallizes precious moments of sonic bloom, from ambient soundscapes to free-noise and krautrock inflected improvisation.

VA Cambodian Cassette Archives: Khmer Folk and Pop Music Vol. 1 CD
2016 digipak edition with restored/remastered audio, which replaces the long deleted 2004 original edition. Includes three added bonus tracks, extensive booklet of liner notes and vital new track and title information. Lovingly assembled and notated by Mark Gergis. Primarily drawn from over 150 aging and often unmarked cassettes found at the Asian Branch of the Oakland Public Library in California during the late 1990s, Cambodian Cassette Archives showcases an unbelievable collection of dynamic music recorded between the 1960s and the 1990s, both in Cambodia and abroad. Male and female vocalists share the spotlight in a Khmer blend of folk and pop stylings, with cha-cha psychedelia, phase-shifting rock, sultry circle dance standards, pulsing new wave, haunted ballads, musical comedy sketches, easy-listening numbers, and raw instrumental grooves presented in an eclectic variety of production techniques. Heard throughout are legends of Cambodia's golden age during the 1960s-1970s, including Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Sereysothea, Pen Ran, and Chhoun Vanna, among others. With their fantastic ensembles, they helped rewrite Khmer musical history, often weaving traditional melodies into the various dance crazes and rock and roll sounds infiltrating Southeast Asia at the time. Then, between 1975-1979, the Khmer Rouge tragically seized and devastated the country, killing millions and nearly erasing the culture. This collection also focuses on what came next -- the lesser-heard music of the Cambodian diaspora, recorded in the 1980s and 1990s. Beginning inside Thai refugee camps, singers such as Kieng Yuthhan were among the first to record what can be called a post-war Khmer music. Songs ranged from renditions of revered Khmer songs from the golden era to original music that borrowed from both traditional and Western styles. Some flirted with contemporary disco or new wave influences, while others pursued more traditional ballads or more traditional romvong-style dance music. Groups were mainly composed of guitars, drums, keyboard, vocals, and occasionally fiddle or xylophone. Some enjoyed brief popularity on the local Cambodian music circuit at the time, while others remained regional obscurities. The majority of this music was never reissued digitally, and therefore lived and died on cassette. Includes performances by Kieng Yuthhan, Darkie, Klan Han, Meas Samon, Sinn Sisamouth, Son Thoeung, Eueng Nary, Pen Ran, Wat Phnom Orchestra, Golden Dragon Band, Prum Manh, Ros Sereysothea, Dara Chomchan, and Chhoun Vanna, as well as several tracks by unknown performers.

SUICIDE Suicide LP
"Suicide's landmark self-titled LP was originally released in 1977, seven years after the group's initial conception as part of the performance art scene on the Lower East Side. It is hard to overstate the importance of the seven tracks on Suicide, which paved the way for punk, industrial, hip hop, noise and beyond. "Ghost Rider" accelerates with brutal anguish and desire for everything rock 'n' roll. Martin Rev's utterly singular "instrument" pounds out a synthetic soundscape, while Alan Vega's oversaturated vocals obsess over motorcycle getaways. "Rocket U.S.A." distills the duo's dynamic power down to a ghostly pulse, while the psycho-drama of "Frankie Teardrop" (Bruce Springsteen's all-time favorite song) delves even further into cinematic storytelling and, at the same time, clears the room at the end of the night. Superior Viaduct is honored to present Suicide - restored from the original mixes, fully sanctioned by the band and with liner notes by Thurston Moore. If there can be a quintessential New York band, it is without a doubt Suicide."

FALL, THE Live At The Witch Trials LP
"The first full-length album of The Fall, Live At The Witch Trials, is not actually a live album. Emerging out of a two-day studio session at Camden Sound in North West London during a sickly December of 1978, Witch Trials amounts to the sinister foundation of the band's diverse sound. Every song explores drastically different styles and wild terrain, leaving much to decipher over its eleven tracks. "Frightened" has magnetic attraction / repulsion that shifts between Martin Bramah's skeletal guitar, Yvonne Pawlett's plastic keyboards and the lurching rhythm section of Marc Riley and Karl Burns. Mark E. Smith's mesmerizing bark and eerie lyrics warp the cosmic context with each repeated non-chorus. "Rebellious Jukebox" takes yet another turn and showcases the band's more melodic leanings. One gets the sense that The Fall are in a time-travel hallucination (from 19th century witch trials to a scathing critique of the late-70s punk scene) where the band's snot-nosed scrabble afflicts the shape of pop to come. As Smith dictates, "We are The Fall, northern white crap that talks back." Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Live At The Witch Trials has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial release in 1979. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

FALL, THE Dragnet LP
"Dragnet is arguably The Fall's best-known album. With the departure of Martin Bramah after Live At The Witch Trials, the band underwent yet another lineup shift in late 1979. Marc Riley switched to guitar and Steve Hanley joined on bass; the latter's signature basslines would become a major part of The Fall for the next two decades. Opening track "Psykick Dancehall" strikes like an elusive, working-class anthem with its bouncy tempo changes and Mark E. Smith's unfiltered vocals raining down on the dance-floor. "Dice Man" takes its direction from disheveled beats, stuttering lyrics and asymmetrical phrasing. Somehow Dragnet manages to be even more lo-fi than The Fall's debut, yet reveals a cohesive sound and fierce songs that would further build the band's cult following. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Dragnet has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial release in 1979. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

75 DOLLAR BILL Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock LP
75 Dollar Bill, a project by Che Chen and Rick Brown present Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. "Che's interest in the Arabic modes of Mauritanian music has marked our sound quite a bit but I have brought some things, too. The plywood crate I play is a big factor, defining, by its positive qualities (a nice warm 'boom' sound) as well as by its simplicity, what we're likely to do in the percussion realm. Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock, this new record, differs quite a bit from the previous one, notably in the rhythmic 'tone.' Wooden Bag (2015) was all forward momentum, stomping and shaking, but the new record explores a long-standing interest of mine: odd and 'compound' meters. In most of my previous musical activities, I've convinced my partners to delve into this, but in 75 Dollar Bill it has just felt natural and I believe Che's modal investigations and melodic/harmonic tendencies enhance (and are enhanced by) this combination. The current record differs from the last in another big way: reinforcements! Over our few years together, Che and I have frequently had friends play with us at some of our gigs. There have been all sorts of permutations of instruments and some great friends/players who don't all appear on this record but here we are lucky to have a bunch of them: Cheryl Kingan (of The Scene Is Now) on baritone and alto saxes, Andrew Lafkas (of Todd Capp's Mystery Train) on contrabass, Karen Waltuch (of Zeke & Karen) on viola, Rolyn Hu (of True Primes) on trumpet and Carey Balch (of Knoxville's Give Thanks) on floor tom. Please enjoy Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. 'Earth' saw is one of our earliest tunes and, I think, the first result of this 'compound meter' approach. It's a slow 9 beat phrase Che came up with for this odd groove. 'Beni Said' has no fixed rhythmic cycle but a roughly unison melodic phrase and a pulsing, loose feeling of 3s and 4s played using a box full of bottle caps. 'Cummins Falls' features Carey Balch on Diddley-beat floor tom and me reprising the maracas. 'I'm Not Trying To Wake Up' is another of our compound meter songs, this one using an 18 beat scheme." - Rick Brown

SINGER, CLAIRE M Solas 2CD
Solas ("Light" in Gaelic) is Claire M Singer's debut album, spanning 14 years of her work in acoustic and electronic composition. In recent years she has focused on writing and performing a mix of organ, cello, and electronics with regular performances at Union Chapel, where, as Music Director, she runs a diverse program of concerts and educational workshops around the chapel's organ, which was built by Henry Willis in 1877. Solas comprises seven works for various combinations of organ, cello, and electronics, including "Eilean," which is an electronic work derived from recordings of cello, piano, and violin. In 2009 Singer was commissioned by the Aberdeenshire Council to write a new work for the Homecoming Scotland referencing "Land of the Standing Stones," composed and performed by Scottish fiddler Paul Anderson. Small extracts of Anderson's work can be heard interweaving throughout "Eilean." "The Molendinar," which takes up the whole of the second disc, is a co-commission between the Glasgow art gallery Civic Room and Union Chapel. The work is part of The Molendinar Burn Project, which is a 12-site series of art projects, each individually situated along the exact route of the Molendinar, a hidden burn upon which the city of Glasgow was founded by Saint Mungo in the sixth century. A work for solo organ written and recorded at Union Chapel in 2015, "The Molendinar" explores the precise control of wind through the pipes and therefore can be played fully on a mechanical drawstop action organ (Union Chapel) or with the addition of electronics (from the Union Chapel Henry Willis organ) when performed on an electro-pneumatic organ (Glasgow Cathedral). All tracks written and performed by Claire M Singer. Mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering. Photography and design by Jon Wozencroft. "Solas," "Wrangham," and "The Molendinar" were recorded by Iain Berryman at Union Chapel in London, February 26-27, 2016, on the organ built by Henry Willis in 1877. Mixed at Bennachie Studios in Aberdeen and EMS Goldsmiths in London.Singer's previous work includes "4-8-1," a piece for string quartet and eight-channel surround which was performed at the Roundhouse in London by the LCO Soloists, and the audiovisual work a' fàs soilleir, which has been exhibited at the Tate Modern, XMV (New York City), and Ceremony Hall (Austin, Texas). BELARISK Moments in Shapeshifting LP
New England's Lee Tindall has been a mainstay of the noise/electronic scene for some time. Working as Zerfallt and Belarisk, and in a variety of groups (including Astronaut with Daniel Lopatin), Tindall has been perfecting what he calls "Hy-Fy mutant music" for a decade, working on the fringes of a sound that has slipped in-and-out of focus. Moments In Shapeshifting is Tindall's most fully-realized release to date, bringing together his interest in abrasive noise, abstract electronics and haunting ambience. It follows a long spell in a maze of his own confusion, navigating the labyrinth of corporate tech support, hell-to-reach, complete mental and physical exhaustion. The tracks came together from vivid dreams and nightmares during this time, as Tindall embraced the negativity of the New England mindset, crafting the songs as an escape or moment of clarity. Referencing '80s sci-fi and body horror, the album concerns itself with duality, betrayal and paranoia - many of the tracks have more than one title and some pivot mid-way through, shifting focus and transforming completely. As Tindall fixated on dreams, surrealist art and fiction, the nature of rural New England landscape gave him something tangible to reflect on, and the result is a beguiling collection of tracks that flow into each other without fixating on a certain genre or other. At times reminiscent of Tim Hecker's dense ambience and at others closer to M.E.S.H. or Oneohtrix Point Never, Moments In Shapeshifting offers an enticing distortion of reality - a cracked mirror for us to gaze into and obsess over. It might be the most human electronic record of the year. Mastered and cut by Matt Colton. Edition of 500.

ROSE, JACK Kensington Blues CD
2016 repress. "Fourth full-length from Jack, an inspired mix of styles and sounds that brings his in-person mastery down to LP/CD scale. Kensington Blues is Jack's most diverse outing by far, with straight ragtime, heavy 12-string, and that sweet, sweet Weissenborn lap guitar all checking in. Honed during endless touring in 2004, the repertoire here is delivered with maximum authority in a series of first-take performances recorded in early 2005. 'Cathedral et Chartres' and 'Calais to Dover' are dense, brooding 12 string numbers, recalling the key tracks on 2004's Raag Manifestos CD. 'Calais' features a sequence of right hand picking furious enough to evoke a dream state ala Charlemagne Palestine's Strumming Music. 'Rappahanock River Rag' and 'Flirtin' With the Undertaker' are pure syncopated ragtime, while 'Kensington Blues' offers an almost regal take on the intersection of Anglo and American trad. The epic 'Now That I'm A Man Full Grown' was the signature piece of many of 2004's live shows, a display of mind-boggling slide invention that straddles the line of east and west ala 'Yaman Blues' from the Opium Musick LP. In something of a surprise inclusion, Jack's take on Fahey's 'Sunflower River Blues' (long a staple of Pelt and J.R. gigs but never included on a record) is subtle and expressive, with a wonderful rise and fall that perfectly accentuates Fahey's beautiful melody."
