SANFILIPPO, BRUNO The Poet CD
Bruno Sanfilippo is a classically trained musician and composer who has been creating music for more than 20 years. His focus alternates between the exploration of minimalist piano concepts and electroacoustic music. During the years, he has made soundtracks for feature films. He has performed live & multimedia events at different stages and festivals. Live performances usually consist of performing improvisations on piano and strings. "Simple and elegant, mesmerizing and haunting. I absolutely love turning up the volume, and letting every hypnotic and melancholic note weep gently through the night. For the lovers of Max Richter, Eluvium, Rafael Anton Irisarri, and Zbig-niew Preisner. I highly recommended this gem!" - Headphone Commute

NICO Chelsea Girl LP
2016 repress. "Her debut originally released in 1967 (mere months after the groundbreaking The Velvet Underground & Nico album). A masterpiece of dark orchestral folk-pop featuring playing and songwriting help from the VU's Lou Reed, John Cale and Sterling Morrison (as well as the then unknown Jackson Browne who was dating Nico at the time). Features the definitive version of Browne's 'These Days,' as well as classics like the title track and Tim Hardin's 'Eulogy For Lenny Bruce.'"

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Revelation 2LP
2016 repress. 180 gram double LP version on translucent dark blue and opaque light blue vinyl. Revelation is the first album that was fully recorded & produced at Anton's recording studio in Berlin. It is the 14th full-length release from The Brian Jonestown Massacre, recorded from late 2012 to early 2014. Anton Newcombe refined the 13 tracks that appear on the album, which also features Ricky Maymi, an original member of the band. It also features Joachim Alhund (Les Big Byrds), Constantine Karlis (Dimmer), and Ryan Van Kriedt (Asteroid #4) plus vocal performances in Swedish by Joachim Alhund (Les Big Byrds) on the opening track. This album brings the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound mixed with Eastern influences and brings it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.

TIN MAN, JOZEF K & WINTER SON Acid Test 11 12"
On Acid Test 11, Tin Man, AKA Johannes Auvinen, arrives on a seamless pairing with Manchester production duo Jozef K and Winter's Son. On the title track, Tin Man's acrobatic 303 no longer has to do the melodic heavy lifting - the Mancunians provide a sturdy yet plaintive piano base that allows a duet of acid lines to cut through the heady atmosphere. Erika toughens things up considerably with her "Fates Unknown" remix, stripping things back to a creepy, jacking core. "Pendle By Night" underlines the trio's propensity for widescreen heft with an epic, emotional tone.

TACKLE Benzedrine 12"
The seven minute title track connects the hissing snares of Cut Hands, the ear-worm anxiety of Dynamo Dreesen and the sub-bass and breaks of Metalheadz. "Stung" and "AGR 803" fill out the DIY/avant-rock B-side. No vocals here, only chaotic guitar riffs, percussion and synthesizers flung against the roller shutter garage door. With jaw clenched tight, Tackle collides noise and clinical motorik drum patterns, solidifying the dance floor tendencies of Shit & Shine and Gnod.

BEIRUT Gulag Orkestar LP
2016 repress. "While it may sound like an entire Balkan gypsy orchestra playing modern songs as mournful ballads and upbeat marches, Beirut's first album, Gulag Orkestar, is actually the work of 19-year-old Albuquerque native Zach Condon, with an assist from Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel, A Hawk and a Hacksaw). There are no guitars on this album; instead, horns, violins, cellos, ukuleles, mandolins, glockenspiel, drums, tambourines, congas, organs, pianos, clarinets and accordions all build and break around Condon's deep-voiced crooner vocals, swaying to the Eastern European beats like a drunken twelve-member carnival band."

METRONOMY Summer 08 LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Entirely written, played and produced by Metronomy himself, Summer 08 finds the multi-instrumentalist reflecting on his experiences around the time that Metronomy first landed a major breakthrough with Nights Out (BEC 5772370/5772393, 2008) -- the guilt of missing key moments in loved ones' lives and the confused mania of finding himself a critical darling. It's a concept that's been gestating ever since, but the opportunities and challenges that resulted in the expansive, ambitious and Mercury Prize-nominated The English Riviera (BEC 5772894, 2011) and the Motown-inspired Love Letters (BEC 5161817/5161823, 2014) understandably took precedence. "I wanted to make another record with the naivety of Nights Out: ten tracks, straight up, upbeat. Write another banger, then another, and don't really think about it." Summer 08 is a mature, eclectic pop record in the vein of OutKast, David Bowie and Daft Punk. Recorded in Black Box Studios in France with mixing courtesy of Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie) and Neal Pogue (OutKast), it's the most daring and creative Metronomy album. The album's first single "Old Skool" is a cowbell-clattered cocaine pop belter that glimpses '00s London from the backseat of an Addison Lee. It descends into a chaotic scratch frenzy courtesy of Beastie Boys' turntablist and Mount's childhood hero Mix Master Mike. As for the lyrics: "I was living in East London in 2008 and felt like all this stuff was happening in the West end. It's nonsense really, but I felt it was this privileged end of town, all the musicians there had wealthy parents and were living in Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill. So that song's about being totally idiotic and just jealous." "Night Owl" is even more immediate as its disco-groove - at once laidback, then nervously on edge - captures the ambience of a downbeat soul lost in the nocturnal summer swelter of the capital. Elsewhere, there's warbling festival anthem-in-the-making "Miami Logic", which sounds like "Word Up" as performed by Devo; an early East-Coast hip-hop rough ride called "16 Beat" about a love affair between man and drum machine; and a brilliant moment of Bowie worship titled "Mick Slow". It's the album's duet with Swedish superstar Robyn, "Hang Me Out To Dry", mixed by Erol Alkan, that's the songwriter's favorite though.

EL MICHELS AFFAIR Sounding Out The City LP
"Over 10 years ago, Leon Michels released his first full length record, Sounding Out The City. It was Michels' first full length record under the moniker El Michels Affair. At the time, the budding retro soul scene consisted of mostly organ quartets a la The Meters and of course, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings were in the early days of their ascent to world domination. Leon Michels, who was 18 when recording Sounding Out The City began, had just released Thunder Chicken, the first record by his high school band The Mighty Imperials. At the time of SOTC, Michels was just discovering early rocksteady, Afro-beat, and '60s garage rock, which inevitably crept its way into the songwriting. He purchased a Tascam 388, an '80s 1/4" reel to reel 8 track intended for home recordings, and began recording music in a 10x10 box with no windows that also doubled as his childhood bedroom. Along with fellow Mighty Imperials Nick Movshon, Homer Steinweiss, and Sean Solomon, and Michael Leonhart, Thomas Brenneck, and some of the musicians from The Dap Kings, Michels recorded the LP over a two year period. Upon its release, it received some rave reviews and the small deep funk community ate it up, but due to the lack luster promotion and distribution the rest of the world was slow to catch on to the instrumental gems featured on SOTC, which Michels appropriately labeled as 'cinematic soul'. However, in 2005 it found its way into the hands of the people who were organizing a series of concerts for Scion that paired bands with MC's. El Michels Affair was contacted about playing one show with Raekwon The Chef of Wu Tang Clan fame. The show was such a success it led to a tour, and then to another set of concerts that featured multiple members of the Wu-Tang Clan. This eventually led to the release of El Michels Affair's second record, Enter the 37th Chamber which introduced them to a much larger audience and has been their most successful release to date."

AF URSIN Aura Legato LP
LP version. Blackest Ever Black presents Af Ursin's 2005 masterpiece Aura Legato. Af Ursin is the alter ego of Finnish autodidact composer/improviser Timo van Luijk. His work is rooted in the use of acoustic instruments (wind, percussion, strings), but his special sensitivity to the timbral qualities of each instrument, and his deft blurring of them, results in a sound-world that is mysterious, amorphous and hallucinatory, full of suggestive shadows, creaks and whispers. Van Luijk's process begins always with pure improvisation: music played in an intuitive, sensual way, without the employment of conscious technique. He performs and overdubs each instrumental component himself, and out of this process micro-structures and loose arrangements emerge: the piece becomes an improvised composition. Aura Legato is one of van Luijk's darker and more acutely psychedelic offerings: a work of profound interiority, but one that also conjures images of old Europe and fin-de-siècle decadence - dabblings in Thelema, the fog of the opium-den - and has earned comparisons to Third Ear Band, Nurse With Wound, Mirror and HNAS.

"Tunnel" is a groovy track characterized by the continuous insertion of batteries allowing the listener the continuation of the trip. "Operator" is a hard acid track, working with operators, four oscillators and a filter with LFO. It's a linear piece that follows the wave of acid.

Girl Sweat is the ever-changing garage-noise project fronted by the six-foot-five beast that is Sweat. Originally formed in 2011 as a full band, Girl Sweat emerged as a true solo venture in 2013. A Yamaha four-track cassette deck full of bass, Casio drums, and noise loops accompanies Sweat's trademark lap steel, harsh synths, and overdriven, echoed-out vocals, destroying the line between garage and noise and making for the ideal purveyor of a groove-infused bad trip. 2015 saw Sweat play a variety of festivals including the Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia, release two EPs, and tour with The Cosmic Dead. Bad Happenings is his debut album. Includes download code.

MACCHI, EGISTO Biologia Animale e Vegetale 3LP BOX
Triple LP box set version. Cinedelic records present a reissue of one of Egisto Macchi's major works, Biologia Animale e Vegetale, produced by Renato Pent. Biologia Animale e Vegetale was recorded in Torino in 1976 and originally published as double LP. Egisto Macchi, often remembered as a member of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, the historic Italian improvising collective (that also included Franco Evangelisti and Ennio Morricone, among others), was a major figure within the contemporary music field from the fifties to the eighties. The life path of Egisto Macchi seemed to be devoted to the multiplicity of aesthetic choices and musical expressions. While tracing his life and work, one notices an interesting duality based both on a very inclusive approach towards all kind of expressive needs and full control of the level of communication. A complex personality revealing the coherence of a man trying to connect elements usually kept separate; the inherent need for approaching different sources and the ability to be inspired by a wide range of intuitions. Macchi has explored and experimented in the field of sound and music without ever forgetting about his moral and civil engagement. His compositional work takes shape from the idea that music and arts should be able to create a symbiotic contact between the creator (composer) and the beneficiary (listener). All his work finds its origin in the need to integrate the sound language with the feeling of a new developing society. In fact music was just one factor in a more complex chain which included his humanistic and sociological engagement; a syncretic philosophical narrative and a symbolic tale revealing deep anthropological aspects. The 3LP box set is a limited edition of 600. The 3LP box set also comes as 180 gram vinyl and includes a download code.

BELSON'S DIVINE DISCO, GREG American Gospel Disco - 1974 to 1984 CD
"Cultures of Soul Records is proud to present Greg Belson's Divine Disco - American Gospel Disco 1974 to 1984, curated and researched by Gospel Soul music authoritarian Greg Belson. Greg Belson's Divine Disco is a snapshot in time encapsulating the raw power of a spiritual performance, set to the pulsating 4/4 rhythms that were in vogue with the dance floors of the day. Labels like Savoy played a key part in identifying artists that fit nicely into this brand new style with performers like Shirley Finney and The Gospelaires, both of whom were established within the scene, but carried the 'Disco' torch brightly with their tunes featured here. Divine Disco also paints a picture of the lesser known acts that privately released their message to the hopeful masses, such as the Gospel Ambassadors and the Inspirational Souls, whose recording budgets would have been significantly less than any 'major' label. As proven here, they had no less of an impact to the listener. Other tracks on this compilation such as Betty Griffin's 'Free Spirit' have become big club spins for the likes of the NYC Downlow and Horse Meat Disco crews. Also included are recently discovered tunes like the Masters of Music's 'Trouble Don't Last Always' as well as a future classic by The Testimonial Singers, which features several young members of the Winans Family. We've got you covered too for those more modern soul, boogiefied moments with rarities from Delores Fuller, Herman Harris and two offerings from the killer LP by Enlightment. This compilation also includes remixes and edits by Steve Cobby (who was a member of Fila Brazillia) and Rahaan."

SENIOR SERVICE, THE The Girl In The Glass Case CD
The Girl In The Glass Case is the debut long player from The Senior Service. As with all great instrumental music, it weaves its web of magic through the light and shade created from the brush of keys, plucking of strings and beating of skins, with the occasional splash of color provided by brass, vibes and theremin. A collection of songs with an orchestral sensibility juxtaposed with an urgent garage rock crash bang wallop. The Girl In The Glass Case is completely unique and has a comforting familiarity that would takes the listener back to the greatest scenes from some of the Senior Service's favorite movies. The title of the album is inspired by an original Wolf Howard poem. From the first unexpected crash of "Snake Charmer", attacking you like the crack of a rattlesnake's tail, to the final hushed piano coda of "Bees", via the European flavored intrigue of "Into the Tunnel" and exhilarating Mexican romance of "Five Beans In The Wheel", the listener is completely immersed in the world of The Senior Service.

LANDING Third Sight CD
Connecticut's Landing have specialized in a mild and rural kind of psychedelia since the late '90s; they have since moved closer to post-punk and shoegaze territory, but Third Sight -- recorded specifically for El Paraiso Records' Impetus series -- builds on the hallucinatory soundscapes of the band's earliest days. There's a unique sense of motoric drift to these four long pieces, and an organic blend of rock instrumentation and analog electronics that brings to mind Eno's best collaborations in the 1970s. But the group's flair for fuzzy drones and commune-folk also betrays their affiliation with the experimental American east coast scene -- these guys have played shows with their friends in Bardo Pond, released a split EP with Windy & Carl, and played numerous Terrastocks throughout their existence. And despite releasing one brilliant album after another, the band remains appallingly underappreciated. Perhaps because the tryyps Landing take are rooted in self-exploration. As trends in krautrock, drone, folk, and psychedelia ebb and flow, Landing remain unfazed. The door to Landing's world is open, but there isn't a flashing neon sign above it. These guys are far removed from the hustle and bustle of geographic cultural bubbles, both physically and spiritually. Listening through this LP is likely to stimulate mental images of rural winds blowing across vast American fields of grass, bonfires, blue rivers and power lines sailing through rolling hills. Landing's psychedelia possesses a rare timelessness.

Listening through this LP is likely to stimulate mental images of rural winds blowing across vast American fields of grass, bonfires, blue rivers and power lines sailing through rolling hills. Landing's psychedelia possesses a rare timelessness.

FIRE MAGAZINE March/April 2016 MAG
Fire Magazine present their no 1. Issue March/April 2016. In the last few years there has been a resurgence of classic rock and heavy psych. An increasing number of labels are dedicated to stoner rock, doom, heavy psych, sludge, occult, drone, ambient, space rock and other related subgenres. It seems that the past is the new future. People again dig the values of the '70s and that certain kind of attitude, they like people who can play their instruments, but they also love the spirit, the vibe, the analog recordings, the vintage gear, even the look and the outfits on stage because this is an honest and genuine way to make music. In many hard and heavy magazines, big bands are getting big features, great coverage and long articles. On the other hand there is less written about underground bands. In this magazine, there is less of the usual big names that occupy the spotlight in the glossy, more popular publications. Fire Magazine wants to put in the forefront those very good, valuable bands that don't have wider recognition. The aim of this bi-monthly magazine is to create a place where fans can find what they like the most. Crafting a well-packaged, well-presented, full-color magazine, with a lot of regular features and in depth surveys, not only interviews and reviews. Fire Magazine chose the name Fire due to its multiple meanings. Fire is energy, fire is purification, fire is the flame of psychedelia, fire is the fuel of rock'n'roll, fire is the spirit that Jimi Hendrix gave his guitar and last but not least Fire is the masterpiece by Arthur Brown, a real pioneer and a godfather of our musical genre. Issue No. 1, March/April 2006 features: Hawkwind (cover story); Fresh Blood (Mountain Tamer - Psychedelic Witchcraft, Zun, Hexvessel, Oranssi Pazuzu, Abysmal Grief, Graves At Sea, Black Rainbows, Blood Ceremony, Church Of Misery, Spiritual Beggars, Sourvein, Mars Red Sky, Holy Grove, Hypnos, Deadsmoke Hounds Of Hasselvander, Blizaro, Black Mountain, 20 Editions Of Roadburn; Arik Roper: The Magic World Of Mushrooms, Come To The Sabbat: Rituals Of Doom, From The Crypt: "Louder Than God": The story of Blue Cheer, Saint Vitus (commented discography), Perfumed Garden: Angel Witch reissue: (Monster Magnet - Paul Chain); News; Reviews. TOOTS & THE MAYTALS Funky Kingston LP
2016 repress. "Though originally released in 1970, the US wouldn't get to experience 'Pressure Drop' until 1975, when it was released on the US version of their album Funky Kingston, easily considered one of the strongest albums in Toots & The Maytals' catalog, not to mention one of the greatest in reggae history. Upon its release in the States it received massive critical applause (even warming the cold, icy heart of Robert Christgau) for its infectious melodies and rhythms on tracks like 'Sailing On,' 'Time Tough,' and the eponymous title track, quirky Jamaica-infused covers of tracks by John Denver and Ike Turner, and of course the influential 'Pressure Drop.' Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get on Down now presents a superb reissue of a legendary piece of music history."

BESOMBES RIZET Pôle LP
2016 repress. This French psychedelic masterpiece by Philippe Besombes and Jean-Louis Rizet, originally released by Pôle Records in 1975, is a stunning piece of work created with synths of various kinds (VCS 3 AKS, Synthorchestra Farfisa, Mellotron 400, etc.), occasionally backed up by drums and other sounds. Lauded by artists like Julian Cope and Etienne Jaumet (Zombie Zombie) and diggers around the world, Pôle takes the listener on a trip like the gods of psychedelic music intended, from IRCAM's laboratories to German krautrock; from Faust to Cluster & Eno. The original double LP release is reissued here as a single LP (including download code for original album track "Synthi Soit-Il," absent from this LP). Pôle is ideal for a thorough shamanic journey without any new age namby-pamby. After previewing the opening track ("Haute Pression"), listeners might choose to enjoy the album while tripping, rediscovering that dark and fuzzy side of unknown '70s French avant-garde music.

'Dawn (Green Mix)' brings new life to a sound that I was once so familiar with, Detroit techno. Although this mix is more house than techno, it features characteristic melodies of the '90s Detroit sound that I loved. LAVENDER FLU, THE Heavy Air CD
"A home-recording project completely open to experimentation but in love with songs, The Lavender Flu is masterminded by Chris Gunn (The Hunches, Hospitals). Their massive 30-song debut double-album Heavy Air was conceived over a period of years and outside of the genre concentration camps. Like Terrence Malick's Tree of Life remade by the ghost of Phillip K. Dick, it's psychedelic and dense, projecting sounds as images inside your head, layers and layers yielding new secrets with each listen. Heavy Air winds a circuitous path through pop songs ('My Time,' 'Those That Bend'--with a 'Waterloo Sunset' vibe), blasted rockers ('Fingers Like Wounds'), beautiful instrumentals ('Feel the Ground,' 'Telepathic Axe'), fractured folk ('Between The Trees'), weirder experimental pieces ('Vacuum Creature,' 'La-Bas'), straight-up fried epics ('Transcendental Hangover') plus a few covers in the mix, including a maximal / minimal take on The Godz' mantra-like ode to sun worship and a Townes Van Zandt tune that is derailed by a massive panic attack. Lyrics and melodies appear and reappear as half-remembered dreams or reconstructed memories. Traces of Big Star, Royal Trux, Brian Eno, Meat Puppets II and American Beauty are in the DNA but The Lavender Flu is its own beast."

Interference presents the entire KFAT-FM broadcast of this legendary early performance by The Cramps live at Keystone's Palo Alto from February 1979. They were an exotic cabaret of B-movie histrionics and debonair, pursuing lurid and sexual gratification. BARROTT, MARK Sketches From An Island 2 2LP
180 gram double LP version. Include download card. D-side has etched design. Mark Barrott music acts as a bridge between his own spirituality and creative expression. "Humanity is facing a big challenge at the moment. We're at a fork in the path." he muses, "More so than ever people are now pushing the boundaries, taking more drugs and seeking sensory overload, driven in part by the hedonism traditionally associated with dance music. For me, it's time to focus more on making healing music, on trying to find the balance between all this wonderful technology and the freedom it gives us with the natural world. I am telling stories of everyday life in Ibiza. Sound-tracking my life here through local field recordings, dusty synths, some African percussion and a bit of slide guitar. This music is a lot more like folk music, taking mood, atmosphere and composition and threading stories around that framework." While the original spirit from the first Sketches album remains, tracks like the instrumental emotional pop of "Driving to Cap Negret" and the heavy weather atmosphere of "Distant Storms at Sea" highlight a compositional leap forward. The polyrhythmic joy of "Cirrus & Cumulus" and overall feeling portrayed by Barrott's idiosyncratic aural oddities, highlight a composer comfortable in his own skin and very content with his surroundings and day to day life. "It was also influenced by playing at La Torre last summer," Barrott explains of his residency at Ibiza's latest sunset mecca. "I loved seeing how people react to the wonderful spectacle of the sunset and how you can create a movie soundtrack where the sunset is the film. I've realized this journey is the journey within. If one second of any of the Sketches records help people achieve that on their own, then I'm eternally grateful."

ORKA Vad LP
Following on from 2014's Leipzig album, which showed Orka's more down-beat sound, Vað ups the pace. It was written in London and New York by project mainstay Jens L. Thomsen and former Dälek member Oktopus. Two tracks released from this record - "Dimmalætting" and "Grind" - see the Orka sound twisted into hardened, cathartic techno. Still based on homemade instruments, the sounds on Vað are largely broken up into samples. The music remains distinctively Orka while ushering in an exciting new twist in their sound. "I think that after several albums and tours I felt the need to make a record which had fewer elements which I could focus on and explore," says Thomsen. "On 'Grind' all sounds are either found sounds or samples from instruments I built myself. Other tracks like 'Dimmalætting' have synthesizers, but we have used them sparingly on the album."

SNAKEFINGER Chewing Hides The Sound CD
"Philip Charles Lithman aka Snakefinger was born in London, England, and moved to the USA in 1971. He is known for his solo work and for his guitar playing with The Residents. It is said he was given the name 'Snakefinger' by The Residents based on a photograph of Lithman performing, in which his finger looks like a snake about to attack his violin. In 1972 he moved back to the UK to form the blues rock band Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers. Because sales of their second album were poor, he returned to America. Chewing Hides The Sound was his first solo album and came out in 1979 on Ralph Records. It includes songs composed together with The Residents as well as cover versions, such as 'The Model' by Kraftwerk or 'Magic and Ecstasy' by Ennio Morricone. It was the first record to showcase Lithman's distinct slide guitar playing. The cover was created by Ralph Records in-house designers Pore No Graphics. Klanggalerie are now proud to present you the first CD re-issue since 1999. The music has been remastered, and we added three bonus tracks from the same time as the album: 'The Spot' was a single A side from 1978, 'Smelly Tongues' its B-side and 'Talkin' In The Town' was the B-side to 'The Model'."

RESIDENTS, THE Daydream B-Liver CD
"Daydream B-Liver was released by The Residents' Fan Club UWEB in 1991. It's an assortment of music from the years 1971 to 1991. The oldest material is a recording of a live show at The Boarding House in '71. The Residents were assisted by Snakefinger for the event. Then there are three tracks from the Stars & Hank Forever sessions that were not used on the original album. 'Daydream In Space' was recorded by the band especially for this compilation. It is a nod to Sun Ra and Barry White. 'Dog Glue' is an unused snippet from the 'Baby King' music used on The King And Eye. The 1990s are represented by music from the Freak Show and Cube E sessions, including a live rehearsal for a German TV show. The song that gives the album its title (apart from it being part B of Liver Music) is a cover version of The Monkees' hit single of the (nearly) same name. As a bonus, we have included the 'Special Almost Dance Mix' of 'Hit The Road Jack', a song that The Residents recorded in 1987 as a follow-up to Kaw-Liga. This version has previously never been available on CD. Comes with a new front cover by Pore No Graphics."

DAVIS, BETTY The Columbia Years 1968-1969 CD
"One can hardly imagine Prince, Erykah Badu, or Outkast without the influence of Betty Davis. Her style of raw and revelatory punk-funk defies any notions that women can't be visionaries in the worlds of rock and pop. In recent years, rappers from Ice Cube to Talib Kweli have rhymed over her intensely strong but sensual music. Betty penned the song 'Uptown' for The Chambers Brothers and wrote the tunes that got The Commodores signed to Motown. The Detroit label soon came calling, pitching a Motown songwriting deal, which Betty turned down. Motown wanted to own everything. Heading to the UK, Marc Bolan of T. Rex urged the creative dynamo to start writing for herself. A common thread throughout Betty's career would be her unbending DIY ethic, which made her quickly turn down anyone who didn't fit with the vision. She would eventually say no to Eric Clapton as her album producer, seeing him as too banal. In 1968, she married Miles Davis and quickly influenced him on the magic of psychedelic rock along with introducing him to Jimi Hendrix -- personally inspiring the classic album, Bitches Brew. Miles and Betty fans have long debated the truth of a near mythological session recorded in Studios B and E at Columbia's 52nd Street Studios on May 14th and 20th, 1969. The landmark session was produced by Miles and Teo Macero and featured Betty on vocals, accompanied by Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, guitarist John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock on keys, and Dylan/Miles session bassist Harvey Brooks. Other players included bassist Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys), saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and organist Larry Young. Now, Light In The Attic, with full support from Betty herself, presents these recordings to the public for the very first time. These historic sessions -- never heard, never bootlegged -- predate Miles' revolutionary album, Bitches Brew, and are the true birth of Miles' jazz-rock explorations, along with the roots for Betty's groundbreaking funk that came years later, starting with her self-titled debut in 1973. While, ultimately, these recordings would go unreleased for nearly half a century, they would greatly shape each of their careers. The vibe is intrinsically unique, fresh, and futuristic -- jazz heavyweights playing psychedelia, rock, and jazz-fusion long before the term became commonplace. The songs include Betty originals and covers of classics by Creedence and Cream. The concepts explored on these previously unheard sessions fueled concepts that wouldn't be fully realized until years later with Miles' seminal On The Corner. Additionally, included here is the first time rerelease of a 1968 Columbia single, recorded in October 1968 at Columbia Studios in Los Angeles. The session was produced by Jerry Fuller and featured South African maverick Hugh Masekela on trumpet and arrangements, plus members of jazz-funk pioneers The Crusaders -- including trombonist Wayne Henderson and pianist Joe Sample. All tracks previously unreleased (except track B5/8). Production by Miles Davis & Teo Macero with performances from Hugh Masekela, Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience), John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Harvey Brooks, Wayne Shorter, Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys), Larry Young, and members of The Jazz Crusaders. Remastered from the original analog master tapes.New interviews, rare photos, and unseen historical documents from the Teo Macero archive."

PEDER Come With Me 2LP
Peder presents Come With Me. "I'm kinda like a blond (less good looking) Vincent Gallo, but with self-irony." This is the beginning of Peder's press release. Peder began his career as a scratch DJ, household remixer for the Beastie Boys and one half of legendary Danish Comedy team Gramsespektrum (who released grammy award-winning platinum albums in Denmark). Now he's a singer that makes dusty David Lynchian '50s music from your sweet nightmare and a film composer with music featured in Breaking Bad. Plus as a director, he was chosen for Saatchi & Saatchi's "New Directors Showcase", Cannes Lions 2014. Come With Me is his fourth solo album and his first on vinyl. The record includes an original version and a guest version hidden inside with almost the exact same layout. The "Guest" versions on the second LP have the same songs sung by Peder's favorite Danish singers: Coco from Quadron, Jonas Bjerre from Mew, Oh Land, Mikael Simpson, Jacob Bellens, Sleep Party People, Claus Hempler, Signe Marie Schmidt, Mikael Simpson, Emma Sehested and Maria Hamer Jensen. The record is a return to more dusty and crunchy sound of his award-winning debut And He Just Pointed To The Sky from 2007 released on Ubiquity Records.

"Re-release of the originally 1974 released Klaus Schulze Album Blackdance, incl. extended liner-notes and bonus tracks. 'Schulze has been described as one of the few electronic composers to put feeling into dead machines and Blackdance proves that to be true.' (Luton Herald/UK, 1974) Blackdance was the album before Picture Music and Timewind, the album which gave the name of Klaus Schulze worldwide recognition and brought him some fully justified success. It was the first Schulze album on a British label (Caroline, Virgin), a fact that resulted in quite a different reception by the press. Furthermore, it was a worldwide deal which meant that all records from Blackdance on would also be available in France, the US and Japan."

SCHULZE, KLAUS Picture Music CD
"'Owing on the strong emphasis on rhythm, in combination with those twittering and rising synthesizer sounds, Picture Music gains excitement and a sublimal aggressivity, so the listener never gets demanding.' ('Sounds'/Germany, May 1975). A British journalist wrote about Picture Music: '...hypnotic quality. Klaus' first true synth album.' What you actually hear is mostly just one synthesizer, the (today historic) EMS VCS 3, which was shortly later exchanged for the EMS Synthi A, which is in fact the same instrument but just smaller and very handy for transportation. After all, Klaus started already in 1973 to give concerts, and he was - as his old pals from Tangerine Dream - for many years the only electronic music artist who travelled a lot to give concerts all over Europe."

LACY WITH DON CHERRY, STEVE Evidence LP
Soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy continued his early exploration of Thelonious Monk's compositions on Evidence, originally released in 1961. Lacy worked extensively with Monk, absorbing the pianist's intricate music and adding his individualist soprano saxophone mark to it. On this release, he employs the equally impressive Don Cherry on trumpet, who was playing with the Ornette Coleman quartet at the time, drummer Billy Higgins, who played with both Coleman and Monk, and bassist Carl Brown. Cherry proved capable of playing outside the jagged lines he formulated with Coleman, being just as complimentary and exciting in Monk's arena with Lacy. Out of the six tracks, four are Monk's compositions while the remaining are lesser known Duke Ellington numbers: "The Mystery Song" and "Something to Live For" (co-written with Billy Strayhorn). Edition of 500.

HIGH WATER Crush LP
High Water presents Crush. Crush is great flood music, an emotional deep-dive by way of sonic spell. It is the debut album by High Water high priest Will Epstein, who has strung his folksy, bare-souled heart-songs across a starry firmament and into a bottomless blue. The sound is a mongrel, electro-acoustic jazz: crisp production that cradles Epstein's silvery holler and the finger-picked click-clack of his electric Rhodes piano. His distinctive, loping cadence cuts through the noise and ferries us up a pilgrim path, yearning for a present truth, a pure love. He's recorded and performed with Nicolas Jaar, a dear friend since childhood. The High Water multi-instrumentalist solo-style gestated while opening up several tours for Darkside, Jaar's band with Dave Harrington. John Coltrane is his patron saint, and John Zorn his relentless guru. He has grown a deep love for Bob Dylan and his endless, shape-shifter's myth. These three titanic influences share a spiritualism, a volatile energy to create and destroy the self, to sublimate raw humanity into something impossible and eternal. Familiar sounds are stretched past their limits, and lyrics are charged with the power of a ritual text. These nine songs are incantations that conjure little worlds, micro-cosmos, circular love letters. Epstein employs elemental language, as well as the oblique Americana of railroad songs, rising rivers, and "sleepwalking through the pines." Crush is a beguiling, evocative music that, from track to track, recalls a series of short films, a sculptural forest, or a kaleidoscopic fever dream. The gentle lull that begins "Moonlight Mind" kabooms into a pulsing beat with a soulful twitch. Snappy drums are chopped and reassembled; Harrington's guitar pinches tones in bit-crushed screams and inspired blue country twangs. The soft "Forecast," pooled in reverb, spikes under synthesized high beams and sputtering organ. A guttural sax masquerades as a digital insect frantically cleaning its mandibles. A soft-dub rework of Lucinda Williams' "Changed the Locks" confirms the love/hurt essence of Crush. Ancient murals spell "Seattle," a distant place where sensual heat is felt and peaceful melodies fume out of dark tombs. Through all this and the last three songs-- the contemplative final stanza--the prevailing imagery is that of the rain. The album is laced in a life-affirming naturalism, and whenever the gale-force productions come to a head, the pillowy clouds of sound burst into a cleansing shower, drizzling like a granulated rainstick.

'Let's Play' continues with the acid theme as it ripples away under a drowsy bassline, broken by tight snare and shining hats that build to peak time bliss. Finally, the smooth balearic vibes of 'Tell Me Something,' with its hooky piano riff and smooth synth chords, close out the EP.

KETEV I Know No Weekend LP
The flawed wonders that Yair Elazar Glotman, AKA Ketev, puts forth on his latest opus I Know No Weekend are the coldest dreams you would ever wish to immerse yourself in. They recall echoes of echoes, forced into slowly struggling shapes; ghosts of memories, whispers of life from another dimension. Shamanic-repetitive beats shift slowly beneath echoing bells and fragments of past transmissions. Overwhelmingly, one is taken upon a winding mental path, with no clear resolution in sight, although the journey is ever-evolving and new. The listener perceives a great mechanism at the edges of this mass of sound, a machinery of blackened iron that grinds ceaselessly, opening vast spaces to the ear. Howling winds caress the nerves like ground glass, opening up the long limits of the void. These are the harmonics of entropy. Centuries of thought dissolved into unusual dimensions, creating a new language woven from the fragment of a mad entity. Amorphous at first, it evolves to become as piercing as glass. Caught in a patiently eternal and animal-gaze, all that is left to do is surrender to the vacuum of this cosmos.

KYO Aktuel Musik LP
Aktuel Musik is the second release from Danish duo Kyo (Hannes Norrvide and Frederik Valentin). Following their 2016 Posh Isolation debut, Potentiel Musik, Aktuel Musik presents eight pieces of emotive and luminesced experimentation. Utilizing electronics, acoustic motifs, and aching instrumentation for -- most prominently -- woodwind and piano, Kyo softly unfold the structures that bind their work to the many genres being addressed. Romantic synth lines submerge free jazz drumming, playfully scattering an appeal to the cerebral in the sensuous. The most brilliant aspect of this lies in one of the record's most pointed qualities: the incredibly subtle use of dissonance, which compresses the enveloping sense of introspection in Aktuel Musik into diamond form. The whispered field recordings corral the moments of listless instrumentation into snapshots of a cosmic metropolis. This is most keenly felt in the orchestral swells that fall away to reveal a soloist on a decaying pedestal, improvising their fate.

H.U.M. Trinity Way CD
H.U.M. marks the convergence of a triad of kindred spirits with a common goal of expanding consciousness. On Trinity Way, their debut release for Rocket Recordings, the cosmic/terrestrial musician/magician triumvirate of Heloise Zamzam, Olmo Uiutna, and Mark Wagner delves into ritualistic audial travelogues that unite mantric repetition, concrete noise, and kosmische explorations, the better to transform and enrich the soul. All three acolytes of H.U.M. arrive at this destination from a rich history of experimental music and art; Heloise Zamzam and Olmo Uiutna run the formerly Bristolian and now France-based Zamzamrec, which, besides being a record label specializing in tape releases by artists working in psychedelic realms and beyond, they characterize as "a superfuture network, a community of musicians, storytellers, scientists, writers, poets and dreamers." Mark Wagner, meanwhile, has involved himself in a diverse and vibrant litany of projects, including time touring as a member of Gnod and Ahrkh Wagner, and is an active practitioner of music as a spiritual medium. Following the limited-edition 2015 We Are One cassette on the Bumtapes label, Trinity Way marks the most expansive and intrepid ascension yet for these psychic travelers, using primal rhythm, earthly resonances, and devotional oratory as pathways to uncharted dimensions and higher metaphysical realms. These trance-like meditations and illuminating visions draw on a plethora of earthly parallels, from the iconoclastic writing of Rimbaud or Artaud to the occultist sound-world of Coil; from the invigorating DIY ethos of the Not Not Fun label to the anarchic sprawl of The Faust Tapes -- and with Wagner's stream-of-consciousness incantations inviting comparisons to both Robert Calvert and Genesis P-Orridge. Yet influences come also for further afield, as testified by "L'Ame Agit" -- a mysterious rework and ode to Françoise Hardy's 1968 classic "Comment te dire adieu" -- and "Cat-Man-Do" which uses Heloise Zamzam's recordings of a shamanic initiation in the Colombian jungle to help conjure an overwhelming air of hypnotic momentum. Altogether on another wavelength from most of what is dubbed psychedelic music in the 21st century, Trinity Way is a free-flowing odyssey of vivid, hallucinatory intensity. Through a marriage of simple ingredients, these three have created an off-the-map album which nonetheless places its feet on the ground and its gaze on the cosmos. As Heloise Zamzam herself says, "Trinity Way is a magic door, a sonic portal. Trinity Way is not an escape of the everyday realm but an entrance, a mode, an invitation. . . ."

Franklin, these gospel recordings of a teenaged Aretha Franklin are not just a sign of the brilliance to come, they are a force unto themselves. MUNMA Three Voices LP
Three Voices is the first vinyl release from Jawad Nawfal aka Munma, and the second vinyl release on Lebanon's Ruptured label. Three Voices is marked by several vocal collaborations, representing a departure in style for this pioneer of Beirut's electronic scene. The vocal element has always been present in Munma's music, whether through radio broadcasts, samples of political speeches, or recordings of musicians' voices, but he had never actually used the human voice as an intrinsic element in his compositions. Following his successful collaboration with rapper El Rass and other hip-hop artists from Beirut and the surrounding area (including Touffar, El Far3i, and Boikutt, among others), Nawfal became drawn toward the capabilities of the human voice -- more specifically the recitation of poetry by the human voice -- and began to integrate this element into his musical process. He called on various writers, mostly women, to write personal texts and recite them in spoken-word form in the studio. He then proceeded to build specific musical beds around these voice recordings and recitations. The resulting album is Three Voices, a fully collaborative yet vastly personal album of electronic treatments and human narration.

MUNGO'S HI FI FEAT. YT No Wata Down Ting CD
Some of the most outstanding contributions to Mungo's Hi Fi's multi-artist projects have come from Ipswich lyricist YT. So it was only a matter of time before they collaborated on a full album together. The theme is real, undiluted reggae music. YT and Mungo's share a passion for the often-overlooked '80s rub-a-dub and early dancehall sound. These stripped down riddim tracks allow YT's strong, melodic delivery and intelligent lyrics to take center-stage. YT doesn't flinch from life's harsh realities and tough questions. Yet he is also sufficiently well-grounded to breathe new fire into staple topics like sound clash and ghetto romance. He spars with two of the greatest dancehall singers, Johnny Osbourne and Little John, over music laid with the help of Prince Fatty to add that analog rub-a-dub flavor. The result is an album that salutes the foundation and its continued relevance in modern dances today.

Damin Eih, A.L.K. and Brother Clark wrote: "In '67 I saw two local bands that again amped up the juice, The Litter and Jokers Wild. Both bands played original music and had excellent psychedelic-raved guitar players, Zippy Caplan (Litter) and Lonnie Knight. That brought everything to a new level." Heavy underground rock with great composed songs, fuzz guitars, speedy drums and tight bass lines. If you think The Litter is great, you should listen to Jokers Wild. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

SESSION Unikuva LP
2014 release. Shadoks Music presents the reissue of Session's only album, Unikuva (1974). Session was a Finnish rock band founded in 1970. They played the typical experimental rock common of the '70s but added their own touch of creativity to the music. While the majority of the lyrics were in Finnish, their music stands out compared to most progressive rock bands. Their most active time period was between 1972 and 1974 when they released two 7" singles and one album, Unikuva (1974). After disbanding in 1975, some of the members joined Elonkorjuu. But Session is rarer and as good or even better. If Charlies is the Finnish equivalent of the Cream, Session might work in the same musical style as bands such as IF and other progressive rock bands on the Vertigo label. Unikuva is a strong progressive rock album with loud guitar solos, organ, electric piano, horns and most significantly, fierce, driving bass. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert and an A2 poster. Edition of 500 (numbered).

HAMLET Linnanherra LP
2014 release. Shadoks Music present a reissue of Hamlet's only album Linnanherra (1977). Hamlet formed as Survival in 1973 and played many concerts in Finland. The highlight for the band was during in 1977 when the small town country boys got to make their first album, Linnanherra. They were booked at the best studio in Finland, Finnvox in Helsinki, together with the British sound technician Ian Churches. The producer wanted them to change their names to Hamlet for a better sale point (given the new outfit on the cover). The band never agreed but the Discovox label released the album under the new name with a new medieval outfit on the cover. This extremely rare Finnish progressive rock album was later withdrawn by the label. Linnanherra was the only album the band recorded. The music might go in a similar direction that Finnish Session, heavy psych progressive rock, heavy lead guitars all over, great songs and very well produced. Personnel: Jouko Nykter - vocals; Hannu Nykter - guitar, vocals; Jouni Limingoja - bass, vocals; Harri Kannel - guitar; Kalle Kähkönen - drums. This album is rare as gold dust, a really cool heavy album. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy gatefold sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

NOSTRADAMUS Aquarium LP
2014 release. Shadoks Music present the first vinyl release of Nostradamus's Aquarium, recorded in the early '70s. At the end of the sixties, Vienna, Austria's capital, was a special place to live and to grow up. While young people in England and the USA had been nurturing their "love & peace" movement, Vienna was stuck in the past. The youth in particular suffered under heavy conservatism during those years. But it could not prevent three high school buddies from forming a band that became the seed of Nostradamus. They focused mainly on its own music but of course there were lots of influences by bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, The Who, Free and later The Flock, Gentle Giant and King Crimson. Recordings were made at the Mueller and Bronner studios. Although Nostradamus received airplay and attention at the main radio stations, their producer turned down the offer to release the album on a German label. Shadoks is presenting for the first time on LP the amazing album by Nostradamus. With Mario Bottazzi and Hansi Lang on vocals, Rudy Kronfuss on guitars, Helmut Wind on bass, Hans Kalenda on drums, Heribert Wagner on violin plus others. This recording became a lost gem, full of underground vibes and very well produced. Beside Lazarus and Novaks Kapelle, this is one of the best Austrian albums. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

CHARLIES Jail Sessions LP
2015 release. Shadoks Music presents Jail Sessions from Finish legends, Charlies, recorded in 1969 and 1970. This album was recorded in 1969 and 1970 in Charlies rehearsal room, a "drunk tank" at the local jail. Since Kari Lehtinen's father (later on known simply by the nickname, Pitkä) was the local police officer, the band could use this room for playing and recording. After Charlies finished Musiikkia Elokuvasta Julisteiden Liimaajat (SHAD 163LP, 1970), they got a lot of positive feedback, but they never thought the final product sounded right. Pitkä (bass) and Eero (guitars) spent a lot of time considering how to deliver a much harder sounding album as a follow-up, representing the true Charlies spirit. They got the chance to make a new album, Buttocks (1970), which was released by the famous Love Records label. The result again was only as good as the budget resources provided. Although in the end, the album Buttocks gained a good, hard reputation, they were never content with it. One night Pitkä said: "Eero, we should have made our album from your tapes, the result would have been much different." Jail Sessions is a recording from those tapes, the sound the band was happy with. Much heavier in sound, amazing electric guitar, 100% pure heavy underground sound. After 45 years this Charlies album comes out as the band wanted it to sound like with many alternative versions of songs from the Buttocks album and unknown songs as well. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a printed inner sleeve, a four-page insert and an A2 poster. Edition of 500 (numbered).

BURNIN RED IVANHOE M 144 2LP
Shadoks Music present the first ever reissue of Burnin Red Ivanhoe's M 144, originally released in 1969. Burnin Red Ivanhoe is a Danish progressive rock band which was formed by Karsten Vogel in 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. After a couple of years touring, the band were signed by the Sonet label in 1969 and released their debut album M 144. In the UK, the group's record distribution was done by Dandelion Records after John Peel heard their debut album and receiving some positive write-ups in the Melody Maker. After several albums, the group split in 1974 with Karsten Vogel forming Secret Oyster. M 144 is one of the earliest (if not the earliest) progressive rock albums of Scandinavia and certainly of Denmark (along with Culpepper's Orchard's self-titled released 1971). Resolutely rock in spirit, the album oscillates between the blues, soul, jazz (or more likely jazz-rock) and many more folkloric styles, without actually being "folky". The blues-rock and strong psych-folk influence is demonstrated in most of the shorter tracks. Considering the band had been together for two years prior to recording M 144, it's not surprising that they had enough material to fill a double album. Presented in a heavy gatefold cover with the original pop-up sleeve. Includes a printed inner sleeve and a two-page insert with extensive liner notes and many unseen photos. 180 gram vinyl. NIMBUS Obus LP
Shadoks Music presents a reissue of Obus (1974) from Nimbus. In May 1973, the band Mafia changed the name to Nimbus and recorded their only album in 1974. The Nimbus's live repertoire consisted mainly of own compositions but they would still play the occasional covers of Frank Zappa among others. Soon after the release of Obus, Nimbus went through some line-up changes and a bit later the band would break up. Nimbus remained inactive for over thirty years. In 2007, they reformed for a single gig. Nimbus's music is pure vintage-sounding Finnish progressive rock and psychedelia of the early seventies, of the same level as Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti, or Session. This reissue includes two bonus tracks recorded as a TV broadcast in January 1974. Obus is a progressive masterpiece from Finland. This reissue is a cooperation with Rocket Records, Finland, who released the CD version. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

IHRE KINDER Werdohl LP
"'Werdohl - The best pop album in German , which has been published on the market.' (Music Express 1971) German Rock classic after 45 years back on vinyl again! 1969 formed, Ihre Kinder decided to connect songs in German lyrics with rock music. Given the lack of acceptance among record labels - rock music at that time was exclusively reserved English singing bands - they produced their first LP Ihre Kinder 1969 themselves (supported by Jonas Porst). In 1969 the band signed with the newly established Munich record company Kuckuck and produced the album Leere Hände (not without a precaution to make an English version for all pieces). Kuckuck went on with the next albums by IHRE KINDER until the split in 1973. The songs of the band are known for their complex but also engaged socially critical texts on topics such as substance abuse, apartheid, detention and xenophobia. In music magazine Star Szene '77 is finally read: 'Ihre Kinder were the first German group that played rock and brought German texts ' Werdohl was the fourth album and appeared in 1971. For Germany's largest circulation music magazine Music Express Werdohl was 'the best pop album, which has been published in the German language'. This great album will appear after 45 years again on colored 180 gram heavyweight vinyl, for the first time in gatefold, limited."

PBK & WOLF EYES Rabid LP
Rabid consists of six tracks mixed by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK, between 2004 and 2006 using Wolf Eyes source material, this is the Wolf Eyes lineup of 2000 to 2005: Nate Young, John Olson and Aaron Dilloway. Klingler: "I was given the audio sources (via cdr) by John Olson at the Ear Candy Festival in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2004. None of the compositions on the album were completed using a computer, they were all recorded live in my home studio or at gigs and radio shows directly to digital." Three of the pieces on the LP were previously released in Russia on the CD, Under My Breath in 2009. Also in 2009, the American Tapes label run by John Olson released a CDR of the PBK & Wolf Eyes collaborative tracks as part of the ongoing "Live Frying" series. Later, Rabid was available for a brief time as a net release. One review from the time stated: "Not a single track passes by without conveying grisly and creepy sensations of imminent death or disaster." Mastered for vinyl by Giuseppe Ielasi and with the beautiful cover illustration created by Pole Ka. American composer, Phillip B. Klingler, better known as PBK, has been active in the experimental music underground since 1986. His compositions are created using extreme turntable manipulation, sampling, analog and digital synthesis. Improvising spontaneously and with little preconception, PBK creates pulsing, dense soundscapes of unknown sonic origin. Wolf Eyes is a post-industrial/noise band from Detroit, Michigan. They are widely considered the "kings of US noise." "Their development since the earliest rumblings in 1997 has yielded some of the most staggering and genre-defining sounds of noise and sound art's dense, largely obscured history." -- Allmusic.

JACKSON'S DILEMMA, J.J. J.J. Jackson's Dilemma CD
American R&B singer J. J. Jackson was a pioneer and much more than simply a soul artist. He wrote, produced, and arranged for an array of jazz and soul artists in America and was undoubtedly a revered figure within those communities. His UK residency inspired a hit for The Pretty Things and admiration from progressive rockers IF, who, in late 1969, joined Jackson to record his debut album as J.J. Jackson's Dilemma. Jackson's ambitious crossover of soul, jazz, and progressive rock was a hedonistic fusion that forged a momentary but engaging collaboration. It resulted in two albums and helped in the making of Brother Jack McDuff's 1970 album for Blue Note. Whether it was simply misunderstood at the time or blatantly ignored, J.J. Jackson's Dilemma remains among Jackson's most interesting work and a highlight of the British underground jazz-rock scene. Stoned Circle proudly descends into the jazz-rock underground of 1970 and brings forth a pure gem of late-'60s fusion. Laden with the essential period quota of fuzz guitar, Hammond organ, and wah-wah effects, J.J. Jackson's Dilemma earns a prestigious place in the ever-expanding British enpsychlopedia! Professionally remastered original sound recording with analytical liners, rare archival photos, and bonus tracks from the original US and UK release as well as Jackson's 1970 . . . And Proud of It! REICH, STEVE Four Organs/Phase Patterns LP
Repressed. "Steve Reich remains one of the most important figures in 20th century music. Though he studied at the prestigious arts institutions Julliard and Mills College, by the mid- 1960s Reich set about dismantling the very orthodoxy that he had been trained in. Forming a new musical language based on repetitive processes, Reich became established as part of the so-called 'Big Four' of New York minimalists (along with La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Philip Glass). Reich's influence can easily be seen today in both the classical world and contemporary pop music. 'Four Organs' is the ultimate minimalist composition. Performed by Reich, Glass, Art Murphy and Steve Chambers, four identical Farfisa organs strike a single chord and gradually lengthen each note to produce polyrhythms between the players. Anchored by Jon Gibson's stoicallysteady pulse on maracas, the piece deconstructs its opening burst to a sustained mass of sound -- stretching the tones to create (in Reich's words) 'slow-motion music.' Inspired by Reich's early training on drums, 'Phase Patterns' treats the keyboards like tuned percussion instruments: a basic rhythm pattern is played in unison and almost imperceptibly increases tempo to move out-of-sync. Each progressive cycle emphasizes unique figures that are not generated by an individual alone, but rather emerge from the communal expression of the group. Originally released on Shandar in 1971, Four Organs / Phase Patterns is one of most highly regarded avant-garde recordings in the past 45 years. This first-time vinyl reissue features cover photography by artist Michael Snow and is recommended for fans of Neu!, Glenn Branca and Tim Hecker."

Markee Ledge presents Underground Railroad, an evocative mid-set 125 bpm shuffler. The title track features vocal snippets from Malcolm X, and the works of prominent anti-slavery campaigner William Lloyd Garrison. On the flip, "Mad" takes an altogether more tech feel - an ever-evolving stereo soundscape of scrapes, bleeps and rushes is anchored by constant bassline pressure, and the syncopated woodblock hits. The EP finishes with the higher energy and more raucous "Dream'" - underpinned by the same bassline pressure as "Mad", the swung hats are the perfect counterpoint to the almost four-to-the-floor tension of the previous two tracks.

Following on from Red Greg (ZEDD 024CD), Paul Phillips (ZEDD 027CD), James Glass (ZEDD 029CD) and Nick The Record (ZEDD 032CD), it's now the turn of another of the worlds most respected record collectors to put together their selection. This time it's long time Z Records album co-compiler Sean P. Alongside Joey Negro, Sean P has been responsible for some killer selections for their Soul of Disco (ZEDD 007CD, ZEDD 010CD) and Supafunkanova series (ZEDD 012CD, ZEDD 012LP, ZEDD 034CD, ZEDD 034LP), all of which feature tracks from Sean's vast record collection. He has been collecting records since his early years, producing and releasing his own edits way before they became the norm and is widely recognized as one of the foremost fountains of musical knowledge so to say he is a stalwart of the underground music scene is well deserved. For his Under The Influence album he goes even deeper and much more across the board with tracks taking in afro, soul, funk, disco, Brit-funk, dub and jazz with many of the tracks costing hundreds if you were able to find the originals. Included in the booklet are extensive track notes from Sean highlighting what he knows about these records and, where they are super-rare and obscure, what he doesn't know. As always with Z Records compilations, a lot of time and effort has been spent on creating these masters from the original vinyl, cleaning them up, removing all the clicks and pops resulting in the cleanest sounding copy possible.
