COBRA LAMPS, THE The Cobra Lamps EP 12"
12" EP version. Green vinyl. Barrie Cadogan has fronted garage-surf-soul outfit Little Barrie since 1999 and since moving to London in 2000, he's developed a reputation as the premier go-to alt-rock guitar wing-man for the likes of Primal Scream, Johnny Marr, Morrissey, Edwyn Collins, Damo Suzuki, Paul Weller, Spiritualized, Anton Newcombe and The Chemical Brothers, amongst many others. The Cobra Lamps is Barrie's first solo project. Barrie wrote a handful of songs that didn't quite fit with the band. "I've always been interested in more cinematic music which we did delve into a little bit with the last Little Barrie record but I wanted to take that further," he explains. The four songs he set aside for the first EP under his solo moniker found Barrie indulging his interest in Skip Spence, The Byrds The Notorious Brothers album (1968), Ennio Morricone and Dion. "With things like 'Little Drones' I was trying to blend the psychedelic vocals with a cinematic, spaghetti western vibe." Reconnecting with Little Barrie's early producer Mike Burnham, the pair jammed around Barrie's new songs and, over three days, created music that used Burnham's plentiful vintage equipment and classic experimental methods. "Can't Uncorrupt" is a future rock blast of fuzz garage and is a primal track. "Little Drones" is an absorbing psych-folk ballad that uses drone warfare as a metaphor for how coldly and distantly we can destroy relationships. The rusted, low-slung R&B rock of "The Indicator" is a song about "looking for guidance, battling to trust your instinct even though it's all you have." The psych noir lead track "Known To All" concerns the secrets we all keep for the sake of our loved ones: "your thoughts should only be your own," Barrie sings, "the truth will not be known to all". "It's about classic British family behavior," he says, "The 'sweep it under the carpet' kind of attitude." Recorded towards the end of 2014, the EP loitered for a while but before long, via San Francisco based musician and former Stooges guitar tech Derek See, word of The Cobra Lamps reached Anton Newcombe, singer of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and owner of his own A Recordings label. "I loved the way, not just the records he does, but the way he puts them out and the way they're presented, the packaging and the artwork," Barrie enthuses, and Newcombe loved his EP in return.

JPATTERSSON Ruehn 12"
The mix of dub and techno is not exactly new. However, JPatterson found a way to combine these genres in a way that checks all the boxes with Ruehn. The catchiest element of his track "Elevator" is his voice and its contagious casualness. The dub version of this track is a bright summer day turned into rhythm and melody. Dole & Kom redesign it into an understated anthem. Mollono.Bass create an energetic rhythm environment for the weightless trombone that feels like it's vibrating.

PROTEIN The Secret Garden 12"
Protein presents The Secret Garden. Beginning with meandering sound layers and shifted delay effects, a rhythm emerges, rising slowly from the depths to the dark surface, clicks and cuts, in their gracile aesthetic at times reminiscent of Mouse on Mars. Protein cites and paraphrases the inspiration which he draws from artists like Neu! or Harmonia, decouples it from its past and treats it with dubby distortion. Build-up and decay, in constant flow, no beginning, no ending.

VA Stiff Little Spinners Vol. 7 12"
Stiff Little Spinners Vol. 7 delivers solid techno. Trummerschlunk & Ivan Capriles's "Frau Böse" is an anthem against the compassion-lacking bureaucracy with which Europe cultivates its inhuman immigration/deportation policies. Kalipo a.k.a. Jakob Häglsperger presents "Dyson". Kalipo is a down-to-earth producer and a passionate techno machinist. Joney & Gimmix's "Can I Haz Guestlist?" is electronic music with an attitude. Rampue's "Adagio for Phoenicopterus" shows that he knows that birds can never resist a beautiful melody in adagio. Krink's "Ascent Krink" is hard and void of embellishment. Hassan Abou Alam's "Fragile Things". Hassan is known for playing dreamy, melodic down-tempo live sets.

METRONOMY Summer 08 CD
Entirely written, played and produced by Metronomy himself, Summer 08 finds the multi-instrumentalist reflecting on his experiences around the time that Metronomy first landed a major breakthrough with Nights Out (BEC 5772370/5772393, 2008) -- the guilt of missing key moments in loved ones' lives and the confused mania of finding himself a critical darling. It's a concept that's been gestating ever since, but the opportunities and challenges that resulted in the expansive, ambitious and Mercury Prize-nominated The English Riviera (BEC 5772894, 2011) and the Motown-inspired Love Letters (BEC 5161817/5161823, 2014) understandably took precedence. "I wanted to make another record with the naivety of Nights Out: ten tracks, straight up, upbeat. Write another banger, then another, and don't really think about it." Summer 08 is a mature, eclectic pop record in the vein of OutKast, David Bowie and Daft Punk. Recorded in Black Box Studios in France with mixing courtesy of Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie) and Neal Pogue (OutKast), it's the most daring and creative Metronomy album. The album's first single "Old Skool" is a cowbell-clattered cocaine pop belter that glimpses '00s London from the backseat of an Addison Lee. It descends into a chaotic scratch frenzy courtesy of Beastie Boys' turntablist and Mount's childhood hero Mix Master Mike. As for the lyrics: "I was living in East London in 2008 and felt like all this stuff was happening in the West end. It's nonsense really, but I felt it was this privileged end of town, all the musicians there had wealthy parents and were living in Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill. So that song's about being totally idiotic and just jealous." "Night Owl" is even more immediate as its disco-groove - at once laidback, then nervously on edge - captures the ambience of a downbeat soul lost in the nocturnal summer swelter of the capital. Elsewhere, there's warbling festival anthem-in-the-making "Miami Logic", which sounds like "Word Up" as performed by Devo; an early East-Coast hip-hop rough ride called "16 Beat" about a love affair between man and drum machine; and a brilliant moment of Bowie worship titled "Mick Slow". It's the album's duet with Swedish superstar Robyn, "Hang Me Out To Dry", mixed by Erol Alkan, that's the songwriter's favorite though.

WEAVER, JANE The Amber Light LP
After almost two years of busy tour schedules and widespread unanimous critical acclaim, longstanding experimental pop crusader Jane Weaver finally commits one of her most requested projects to vinyl in the shape of dedicated mini-album The Amber Light. Originally issued as a limited CD-only bonus disc for The Silver Globe album global re-release, The Amber Light surprised fans expecting B-sides and outtakes with what for many stood up as its own isolated project. It includes some of Jane's best material to date including the pulsating synth anthem "I Need A Connection" which became a radio favorite, also appearing on film and fashion shows throughout the latter half of 2015. The Amber Light also includes further collaborations with Finders Keepers's Andy Votel as well as long-awaited collaborations with Suzanne Ciani, Tom Furse (keyboardist from The Horrors) and Sean Canty from Demdike Stare. Recorded over the course of two long weekends between tours with her custom-built band operating at an energetic optimum, The Amber Light captures Jane exuding the passion, experimentalism and justified confidence which is instantly reflected with some of her best songwriting to date. "In Aeternum" could easily be mistaken for a lost early '90s classic, while the title track also draws on a similarly timeless quality. Luke Hess's "In Aeturnum" remix is a dancefloor workout that retains a softer edge. Deep'a & Biri offer two of their own interpretations of the title track, pulling the track across the dub techno galaxy with their trademark dexterity. Artwork by Israeli artist Avraham Guy Barchil.

CASA, DANIELA Arte Moderna LP
Filed neatly and undisturbed within the micro-genre of 1970s Italian artsploitation, amongst films soundtracks such as Girl With The Crystal Plumage, A Quiet Place In The Country and House With The Laughing Windows, this obscure library LP is one of the few fully formed concept albums from the recently reappraised discography of Rome's most versatile and adventurous female production music composer Daniela Casa. Once destined for a shelf life within the storage rooms of defunct TV studios and educational facilities, Daniela's previously strictly commercially unavailable music has in recent years been given new focus at the hands of open-minded disc detectives and sonic salvage hunters earning Casa's distinctive feminine take on experimental instrumental mood and movie compositions a place next to her widely respected masculine counterparts such as Alessandro Alessandroni, AR Luciani, Pierro Umiliani, Morricone and Nicolai. Sharing tight studio space and strict syndication schedules with all of the aforementioned artists (under commission from Romano Di Bari's fervently independent Flipper music factory) Daniela Casa embraced a liberating wind change in affordable music technology which opened doors for uninhabited solo compositions in home studios, taking advantage of communal recording consoles and domestic synthesizers which nurtured a lesser-documented creative family tree (or rather secret society) and paved the way for individualistic projects from the likes of Magnetic System's Fabio Frizzi and Goblin's Claudio Simonetti. Here, on this repress of the impossibly rare, one-time subscription-only album, Arte Moderna, we find Daniela at her versatile best, creating a wide thematic suite (based on paintings and sculptures in an abstract art gallery) for which she would deploy mostly organic and acoustic instruments to construct a set of unorthodox compositions straddling avant garde, free jazz and Giallo tension (with some brief moments of brooding electronics and italian pop). Veering from her stylistic pop interests (which clearly included a fondness for the music of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin) Casa's Arte Moderna saw her adopt a less era-specific approach, combining neo-classical elements and piano improvisations akin to the likes of France's Francois Tusques or Burton Greene, or America's Mal Waldron without compromising her strong narrative personality. Finders Keepers Records now shine new light on these sonic sculptures and provide a fresh context where educated music listeners are ready to fill the gaps between Delia Derbyshire, Ennio Morricone, Suzanne Ciani and Harry Partch.

AMATO Le Desordre et La Nuit 12"
"Cititrax is proud to present a four song debut solo EP by The Hacker's new project called Amato. Influenced by early EBM, German techno and new wave, Michel Amato aka The Hacker began producing tracks under his new moniker Amato in 2014. The first one to be released, called Physique, came out in 2015 on the Cititrax Tracks Volume One EP and was a dancefloor success. On this forthcoming EP, entitled Le Desordre et La Nuit, Amato integrates his love of the new wave to form four EBM tinged techno funk hits. Very dancefloor friendly, these tracks take pop elements reminiscent of Belgian body music and bring them to the present day. Amato shines as a producer here, as he has so many times before. It's an absolute honor for us to release this debut project. Artwork is sourced from photographs taken in NYC in the 1980s with layout by Veronica Vasicka. The release is limited to 999 copies pressed on 160 gram silver vinyl, and accompanied by jackets printed on matte heavyweight cardstock."

ARMSTRONG/SCOTT FRASER, CRAIG Rosa Morta CD
From the outset Craig Armstrong and Scott Fraser decided their collaboration would be based on an electronic aesthetic. CMA Records boss, Craig Armstrong, talks about the album: "We intentionally limited ourselves almost entirely to using vintage synthesizers, modern hardware synths and soft synths. The use of electronic bass and piano were the only exception to this rule. As a composer who regularly works with orchestras this was of course liberating and fun. Out of mutual fascination with early synthesizers from a young age this was often the catalyst for the beginning of each track. Each track was composed within one day often without much change thereafter. This gives the tracks an improvised feel. We also gave no limitation to the length of the tracks; they are as long as felt necessary or as short as they demanded. The direct melodic and immediacy of impact was purely the result of each working day and what felt right at the time. Musically we are influenced by electronic music from throughout the decade but only subconsciously after a lifetime of listening and playing. As composers we have written in several genres and feel all musicians should feel free to express themselves whether in the abstract, tonal, experimental, song improvisation etc. Two tracks were used in the soundtrack to Peter Mullan's 2010 film NEDS, a film about gang culture in the 1970s in Glasgow."

KHOST Needles Into The Ground CD
Needles Into the Ground contains material by Khost which has been elementally transformed by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh. The original Khost material - taken from their second album Corrosive Shroud (CSR 211CD) - is dense, multifaceted and purgatorial with a straightforward "stems" based approach. Broadrick has extracted what he needed for his work whilst in pure Godflesh mode. The outcome is claustrophobic and frenetic, the experience akin to being in the proximity of a large, unstable machine on the verge of meltdown. In addition to these pieces, Khost has added a new track. UP-TIGHT Up-Tight LP
Up-Tight are a three-piece psych group based in Hamamatsu, Japan with a history dating back to 1992 has released around 10 records. Up-Tight's current line-up (2016) is original members T. Aoki (vocal & guitar) T. Ogata (bass) and T. Shirahata (drums). The ghosts of The Velvet Underground, Les Rallizes Dénudés and Amon Düül loom large over their personal feedback song-destruction universe. This LP is the first re-issue of their original CD-R-only release in Japan in 1999 in a very limited edition of 100 copies. It has been remastered in Berlin from original recordings and presented here in an edition of 300. Here is what David Keenan (Wire magazine) thought about this first CD-R released in 1999 : "Up-Tight are a noxious young trio from south Tokyo, all acolytes of the legendary Japanese psych group Les Rallizes Dénudés, who augment their sound with crushing, Sabbath-styled dynamics, earsplitting acid leads and beautiful Velvets-inspired ballads... Song structures are mostly kept loose, allowing for lots of noisy improvisation. Generally the album is anchored by heavy riffs. Just when you thought you'd got to grips with Tokyo's paradigm destroying psych scene, this one hits like a sucker punch." All songs are five to ten minutes long, varying from very melodic ballads to psychedelic journeys. The album ends with an epic track, "??", which is an 18 minutes tour-de-force, that takes you to another dimension as if the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" would have a child with Acid Mothers Temple, while listening to Amon Düül under codeine. Up-Tight are from the generation that emerged with the madness of the Tokyo '90s and the P.S.F Records scene. Close to Acid Mothers Temple (the two bands recorded an album together), Up-Tight has a unique sound and is one of the most important underground reference in the Japan psychedelic scene.

North American noise techno juggernaut, Ren Schofield, a.k.a. Container, delivers Vegetation EP with a loony, snaggle-toothed grin. Vegetation extracts five fanged floor tools that make few concessions to notions of "progress" or "refinement" in his process. The metallic, skidding patterns of "Vegetation" get in your skin before thwacking about with gleeful abandon to the gush curdled acid tones and salty, spattered drum machines of "Soak". "Funnel" is the EP's strangest, canniest creation - stepping with a militant wonk; "Radiator" consolidates suspension-testing electro with lacquer-bubbling noise; and "Insulation" wrests grimacing gremlins from a battered array of non-standard, possibly-illegal hardware.

TIGERSKIN & GRAMBOW Looking for Mushrooms EP 12"
Looking for Mushrooms comes from a collaboration between Tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer Grambow. The title track features Das Eb and builds intensity with Tigerskin's steady percussive instrumentation and Grambow's gritty synth growls. "Tsukiji" is a playful deep house groover. Balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano cruise along this tropical endeavor. "Octocat" is a tougher Italo disco tainted workout, tightly programmed live and analog percussive elements with wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. "Red Fox" glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds.

SOLOMUN Selected Remixes 2009-2015 2CD
Melodic house pioneer and Diynamic figurehead Solomun presents Selected Remixes 2009 - 2015, a compilation of some of his best-loved remixes from 2009 to 2015. Solomun's Selected Remixes 2009 - 2015 is a great overview of the multiple facets of his unique yet ever evolving production style. Hailing from Hamburg, he founded Diynamic in his hometown back in 2006. His unique style as a producer and DJ means he is widely revered by critics and fans alike, remaining in the top 26 and above in the coveted Resident Advisor top 100 DJs poll for the past five years, as well as hitting #4 in the site's most charted producers of 2011. Comprised of twenty-four tracks. Comes with customizable cover artwork and a pack of crayons, reflecting the "remix" concept. The first half displays Solomun's skill for crafting intelligent yet cross-over-ready reworks of both well-known and underground songs. Amongst these are some of the producer's most iconic tracks to date; the Solomun Vox Mix of Noir & Haze's "Around" , as well as his remix of "Let's Go Back feat. Romanthony" by Kraak & Smaak. His remix of Foals "Late Night" from 2013 also features, which, alongside "Around", has racked up over 30 million views on Youtube. Other offerings range from atmospheric takes on the likes of Lana Del Rey and Roisin Murphy, to the more deep and downbeat remix of Whilk & Misky's "Clap Your Hands". The largely vocal-less remixes on the second half allow Solomun's unique production style to shine through. The dark beats of his remix of Stimming's "Una Pena feat. Paulo Olarte" makes for an attention-grabbing start to the disc, whereas his dub mix of "A Love Bizarre" by So Phat! and Claude VonStroke's "The Clapping Track" shows his funkier side. Older remixes like that of "Magnetic North" by Palm Skin Productions and Marbert Rocel's "Cornflake Boy" prove Solomun's credentials with a traditional jacking house groove, underlined by those same distinctive lush basslines and melodic elements. Tiga & Audion's famous "Let's Go Dancing" draws the compilation to a close, demonstrating Solomun's skill for bringing an entirely new dimension to an already very well-known track. Also features remixes of songs by: Broken Bells, Ron Carroll & Superfunk, Tiefschwarz feat. Mama, Editors, Paul Kalkbrenner, Liu Bei, Luca C & Brigante, Josef Salvat, Edu Imbernon & Los Suruba, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Elekfantz, Tiger Stripes and Gunnar Stiller.

DAVIS & JOHN COLTRANE, MILES Den Haag - April 9th 1960 LP
Doxy release a great show from the legendary Miles Davis and John Coltrane 1960s European tour. Spring of 1960 was a major turning point for the Miles Davis Quintet. Seven months after the release of Kind of Blue (RUM 2011129LP) in August 1959 and just days after Miles recorded Sketches of Spain (DOG 904LP) on March 10 and 11, 1960, the quintet departed for a breakneck tour of Europe. Tensions ran high even before the quintet left, and major changes would take place upon the group's return, including the departure of John Coltrane. Coltrane's solos are at times playful and harmonically complex as is his signature, stretching the boundaries of the themes and in fact the genre, and always interesting. There are clear signs of the direction he would soon take on his own as a leader. Miles Davis himself plays some of his finest breaks in this set and clearly is inspired by the material and the band and very probably the rapt audiences. It's clear they knew they were witness to giants in their land and showed due respect and generosity. What makes these recordings so special is that you can hear Coltrane starting to break away musically, taking extended "sheets of sound" solos on Miles Davis Quintet standards. Whistles of admiration and encouragement go up from the audience during Coltrane's solos, and you get the sense from Miles's playing that he was being topped and wasn't quite sure how to respond musically.

Figure SPC arrives at the alphabet's last letter with Figure SPC Z and therefore the end of what has been a most prosperous run-time and success story. Already accountable for its first release A (2009), Jeroen Search has proven essential to the sublabel's course with his many cornerstone contributions. This final, special extended release grants him the ample scope to tell the closing chapter in all proper detail. Spread across two fully packed 12 inches, the Dutch veteran producer wastes no time but lets his ever evolving array of machines do the talking. They speak in many tones - be it snappy or propelling, vivid or restrained, stomping or intricate - yet they all retain Search's consistently singular voice. Each of the nine tracks were composed as a live take, with elements being reduced to the utmost minimum but they always carry the kinetic energy onto the next bar. Figure SPC Z not only bears witness to an artist's impressive ability to reliably distill the pure essence of a groove, it is also the grand conclusion to an esteemed series that has become a staple in many DJ's bags, brought forth plenty of future classics and left its unmistakable mark on techno. Crafty, refined and irresistibly moving, this record is sure to be stirring up dancers around the globe.

MOKADELIC Gomorrah (Original Soundtrack) LP
LP version. Red vinyl. Includes poster. The original soundtrack of Gomorrah, the acclaimed Italian television crime drama inspired by Roberto Saviano's 2008 best-selling book Gomorrah. Gomorrah received unprecedented critical acclaim all over the world. The Guardian (UK) called it "The unmissable, ultimate mafia show" and German magazine Spiegel-Online says, "Forget the Sopranos, here they are the Savastanos!" The music from both seasons of Gomorrah is composed and performed by Mokadelic, a Rome based psychedelic-post-rock collective, specializing in music for film. The music of Mokadelic is influenced by the contemporary sounds of such names as Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, and Godspeed You Black Emperor, without forgetting the lessons from the great Italian soundtrack composers of the sixties and seventies. The soundtrack has an eclectic sound palette that alternates from spacious, melancholic atmospheres to extremely dense climaxes. It's an emotionally intense musical narrative, deeply inspired by Gomorrah's haunting realism.

UGK Ridin' Dirty 2LP
2016 repress; clear vinyl. "Ridin' Dirty is the third studio album by dirty south legends Bun B and Pimp C -- together known as UGK. It is easily considered one of the greatest southern hip hop albums ever made, but let's drop all the labels this is just pure good rap music, for any region. It's all right there, everything that people have come to expect from Houston rap: candy-painted cars, wood-grained steering wheels, flashy jewelry, late-night odes to lean and weed, passing references to DJ Screw tapes, those warm funk synthesizers that sound like radio oldies. All of Ridin' Dirty feels iconic now -- among other reasons, because so many of its lyrics have since been cribbed by everyone from Slim Thug to Jay Z. There's the laid-back badassery of 'Diamonds and Wood,' the zoned-out celebration of '3 in the Morning,' the ridiculous boasting of 'Fuck My Car.' Everything here is essential. Ridin' Dirty was produced entirely by Pimp C and features start to finish bangers such as 'One Day', 'Murder,' 'Hi Lif,' and of course the title track 'Ridin' Dirty.' Pimp C makes use of perfectly chosen soul, funk, and gospel samples to create a perfect soundscape for he and Bun B to trade verse over. Despite there being no singles or videos released from the album, the set went on to be a pivotal moment in southern hip hop as well as UGK's best-selling and most critically acclaimed release."

HIGGS, DANIEL The Fools Sermon, Part 1 LP
Part 1 of The Fools Sermon as composed by and recorded by Daniel Higgs. Features Eli Winograd on bass and bass keyboard and Fumie Ishii on drums & voice and Higgs on banjo and voice. "Daniel Higgs once told me that the Earth is actually in its 34th life cycle. That everything has been conceived, created, grown, withered and ultimately been destroyed a grand total of thirty three times to date. As for quite how long this ourobouros-esque pattern will continue, he never enunciated. For enunciation is at the very heart of The Fools Sermon. Or I should say 'Ee-nun-see-a-she-on', as language in the hands of Higgs becomes a play-thing; syllables coil and retreat as if in eternal competition over the course of this 35 minute address. Anyone versed in Higgs' vocabulary over his 30 year-plus career as musician, poet and orator, The Fools Sermon will feel like a worthy distillation of his other-world view: a raw vision of the sacred and the profane, the physical and the metaphysical, The Proterozoic and the present. At points, the results conjure a Flannery O'Connor penned pulpit-bound preacher elucidating as a huddle of Tribe Records personnel channel Amiri Baraka's 'Black Dada Nihilismus'; at others the narcoleptic exotica of Eden Ahbez shakes hands with Blind Joe Death. One imagines Gene Roddenberry's 'Captain' turning his attention to the Philosopher's Stone, to boldly go where no man and everyman has been before and forever will go again." -- Anthony Sylvester, 2016. BARROTT, MARK Sketches From An Island 2 CD
Mark Barrott music acts as a bridge between his own spirituality and creative expression. "Humanity is facing a big challenge at the moment. We're at a fork in the path." he muses, "More so than ever people are now pushing the boundaries, taking more drugs and seeking sensory overload, driven in part by the hedonism traditionally associated with dance music. For me, it's time to focus more on making healing music, on trying to find the balance between all this wonderful technology and the freedom it gives us with the natural world. I am telling stories of everyday life in Ibiza. Sound-tracking my life here through local field recordings, dusty synths, some African percussion and a bit of slide guitar. This music is a lot more like folk music, taking mood, atmosphere and composition and threading stories around that framework." While the original spirit from the first Sketches album remains, tracks like the instrumental emotional pop of "Driving to Cap Negret" and the heavy weather atmosphere of "Distant Storms at Sea" highlight a compositional leap forward. The polyrhythmic joy of "Cirrus & Cumulus" and overall feeling portrayed by Barrott's idiosyncratic aural oddities, highlight a composer comfortable in his own skin and very content with his surroundings and day to day life. "It was also influenced by playing at La Torre last summer," Barrott explains of his residency at Ibiza's latest sunset mecca. "I loved seeing how people react to the wonderful spectacle of the sunset and how you can create a movie soundtrack where the sunset is the film. I've realized this journey is the journey within. If one second of any of the Sketches records help people achieve that on their own, then I'm eternally grateful."

One of Kompakt's most mythical entities, Superpitcher has always followed a thoughtful and rarified release policy, honing a record until it's perfect (and risking longer periods of time between outings) rather than rushing it out; it's a rhythm that suits his idiosyncratic approach to dance music, not so much churning out floor fodder as creating timeless classics on his own terms. As one of the label's longest-serving artists, he has managed to build an impressive portfolio, especially if one considers the ratio of iconic tracks to releases. It's no wonder, then, that at any given time, a big part of his back catalog seems to be sold out. Following 2010's highly acclaimed, award-winning full-length Kilimanjaro (KOMP 080CD), Kompakt revisits Superpitcher's unique body of work with So Far So Super, an enticing selection of some of the producer's most cherished cuts. KUF Gold CD
Macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music's most exciting live acts, such as KiNK and Elektro Guzzi. So when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. KUF do just this with Gold. KUF is a three-piece, featuring keys, bass and drums, cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. The rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing R&B, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints. The bewildering thing about KUF is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. All vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid Tom Schneider melds, bends and squeezes in real time. With no artificial synchronization in place, Valentin Link on bass and Hendrik Havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyper-integrated real-time magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw MPC-based cut-up techno. The openers, "Gold" and "Princess", are full-on instances of the brightly burning world of KUF, with the other ten tunes never ever letting you down. All along, the Berlin based trio take their audiences through a full range of emotions and constantly shifting dynamics. The thorough integration of this extraordinary degree of sheer diversity into a unified experience is simply astonishing. But never forget this is a live band, and that's how anything here has been developed: live, in direct interplay. Seeing is believing.

TYLL Sexphonie CD
Mental Experience presents the first ever reissue of Sexphonie (1975) by Tyll. Highly inventive kraut-psych album (heavy on the "psych") related to Eulenspygel. Sexphonie offers a mix of acid-rock, hard-psych, polit-rock and progressive/ folky sounds with some eastern influences. Features great studio production and outstanding guitar playing courtesy of Teflon Fonfara. Tyll was formed when Teflon was approached by Kerston Records with the intention of releasing a krautrock album. Teflon's previous group was not active at that moment, so he assembled a new studio band featuring members and friends of Eulenspygel. Shrouded in mystery until now, Tyll's Sexphonie is a krautrock curiosity that almost never happened, and it was all created within a matter of weeks from inception of the band through to the finished LP. The story is similar to that of the legendary Mammut, with an ad-hoc band brought together and given total freedom to do whatever they wanted. Tyll can be seen as the illegitimate step-sister to Eulenspygel, and there was much controversy and even legal action involved and some rivalry between the two bands, especially as Tyll had poached Eulenspygel drummer Günter Klinger. Yet, whereas Eulenspygel had pretty much now lost the plot by 1973, Tyll's sole LP was one of those surprisingly creative gems of the mid 1970s that, to the few that knew it, was a welcome breath of fresh air. "Truly wonderful and extremely little known krautrock released on the Kerston label with something of a widely variable and fascinating approach." - Mutant Sounds RIYL: Floh De Cologne, Franz K, Alcatraz Includes insert with liner notes by Alan Freeman (The Crack In The Cosmic Egg) plus reproduction of the rare original booklet /comic.

FRANCE Do Den Haag Church LP
Mental Groove presents a vinyl reissue Do Den Haag Church from France. Originally released on CD in 2009. The recording is raw and the mastering is fat. The first two pressings made in 2014 and 2015 were distributed confidentially and during the numerous live performances of the band. This pressing features brand new artwork. "France is a French trio that uses drums, bass and amplified hurdy-gurdy. They only perform live, in the middle of the audience - turned to face each other - full on smoke machines and strobes. They play only one 'song' for the duration of their hour-long set. And it's the most transfixing live experience of intense physical and mental focus. The distorted hurdy-gurdy plugs France's sound into the country's history of folk music and popular festivities, of communal trance and immersive pleasure. The rhythmic basis is pretty much the same throughout the whole set. One doesn't need to actually be tripping balls for the auditory illusions to start coming thick and fast. Those who've stayed for the whole duration of their performances know they've shared something, however disparate the phantom forms each might have discerned in the midst of the howls and groans. Gigs like this you leave feeling you're not quite the same person who went in, even though you'd be hard-pressed to pinpoint precisely what has changed." -- David McKenna (The Quietus).

Robot Koch skillfully disassembles. building on the emotional base of Padberg's vocal part and Dapayk's warm bass line. On the flip side, the slight melancholy of the original track gives way for a typical Bebetta tech-house beat that flows in a dreamy, yet simply irresistible manner.

BERIDZE, NATALIE Guliagava LP
LP version. Edition of 300. Includes download code. "Guliagava, by Natalie Beridze, TBA, Tusia Beridze is like her previous albums, it was recorded in Tbilisi, south-easternmost Europe. The Georgian metropolis is far from pop-cultural arteries, nevertheless its youth observes precisely what is happening outside, and installs that otherness in their own world with a delicate hand. Yet they never run the risk of piddly writing a diary, on the contrary, they again make this now expanded own, this enriched own available for the outside world. Natalie Beridze's cooperation with Monika Enterprise began in 2005 - she was one of four artists on the compilation 4 Women No Cry Vol.1. Her album Forgetfulness followed in 2010. Over the last two years Beridze produced Guliagava. Three pieces - "Museum On Your Back", "Those Things", "Opening Night" - were created with Gacha Bakradze. "Opening Night" is also part of the soundtrack to the award-winning film When the Earth Seems to Be Light by Salome Machaidze ,David Meskhi and Tamuna Karumidze. The song "Hello" Beridze wrote with Gio Koridze, a student at Tbilisi's media university CES, where she teaches composition. The words to "Fishermen 2015" come from the farewell letter of a Syrian refugee who drowned in the Mediterranean. Guliagava is a fantasy word that Natalie Beridze's little daughter Lea once seemed to hear in a Russian lullaby. She speaks the word Guliagava when she needs comfort, when she needs a hand to cling to. Natalie Beridze's music is of a rare, bewitching beauty - even when her beats are shredded or when she rocks with an abrasive four-to-the-floor. She moves within her own characteristic tonality of diminished chords that frequently extends into the minor harmony - a tonality within which an unsettling, questioning undertone often resonates alongside the sense of melancholic longing. In her older releases lines could be drawn to IDM and Broken Beats or Detroit Techno, and an admiration for musicians such as Autechre, Aphex Twin or the Cocteau Twins could be detected, here there is a suggestion of R&B over dubstep. But it's a kind R&B over Dubstep based on the bold assumption that both styles clearly trace their lineage to Kate Bush. Her vocals have never been so animated, her songwriting has never sounded so complete, and her arrangements, for all their complexity, have never been so round. Guliagava is Beridze's tenth album and it is nothing less than her masterpiece." - Andreas Reihse (2016)

Rudolf presents Join The Army With Me. The EP is bass-heavy, at times almost bordering on a tribal vibe, while retaining a fucked up surrealist dance music vibe. "Chapter 5" is an experimental spasm of bass and percussion simply making you want more. "Join The Army With Me" has elaborate swinging patterns with a live shuffling feel and glitched out sounds. Daze Maxim turns in a remix of the adventurous B-side "Join the Army With Me" that irons out some of the stumbles, brings his bouncy basslines, and injects some jack into the box.

Song Sentimentale, featuring unique material on each format, was recorded on January 27-29, 2015, at Cafe OTO. Outside of the 2CD release Never Too Late But Always Too Early (2003) there has been scant documentation of one of the most dynamic pairings in all free jazz. Song Sentimentale rectifies this anomaly with a full-blown audio account of the breathtaking communicative heights obtained by these three legends of the living. Over three nights in January 2015, the trio seduced a winter-worn crowd with the kind of organic interplay only these three can conjure. Warm and urgent, the material unveils a wide range of techniques and emotions. This is music on the edge of itself; a living, breathing and existing force documented for repeated visits. Peter Brötzmann - tenor saxophone, B flat clarinet, tarogato; William Parker - double bass, guembri, shakuhachi, shenai; Hamid Drake - drums, frame drum, voice. CAL Homegrown CD
Out-Sider present the first reissue of Homegrown (1982) by Cal. This is a totally under-the-radar US private pressing from 1982 with '60s and '70s influenced psychedelic hard-rock full of distorted guitar and freaky synths with some mellowed-out folky moments. Cal - also known as "Cal Rock & Roll" - was a band formed in the mid '70s in New York by some veteran musicians from the club scene. The band is made up of Larry Calabrese on guitar & vocals, Andy Barone on bass, Jerry Joly on drums/vocals and Jeffrey Gaer on keyboards. Famous for their powerful live shows - one of their stellar moments was opening for Leslie West and Mountain - Cal secured a faithful fan base, especially among the biker crowd. In 1980, they recorded Homegrown, their only album. As the title suggests, it was self-produced by the band and recorded by Larry at his 8-track home studio. But unlike other similar private albums, there's nothing amateur here. This is a perfectly recorded & played effort, featuring well-crafted songs. There's lot of loud distorted guitar, Hammond, analog synths and some Doors influence on the vocals, especially on the lysergic "Couragous Cat". Homegrown was released in 1982 in an edition of 2000, most of which were discarded due to pressing faults. Also, the album was mastered at lower speed. This reissue has remastered sound with corrected pitch/speed. Soon after, Larry met Todd Rundgren at a recording studio and he expressed interest in the band and some of their songs. Famous record label Sugarhill were also interested in adding Cal to their roster but nothing came of it in the end. So Homegrown vanished into obscurity until some original copies were discovered by psych dealers and collectors in the '90s. "Despite the 1982 release date, this upstate NY album feels like vintage '70s stoner music, it's mostly mild hard-rock with some psych and prog moves" -- Aaron Milenski (The Acid Archives) File next to other psych misfits such like T Kail, D.R. Hooker, Marcus, Michael Angelo. Insert with detailed liner notes and rare photos.

TRICOLI, VALERIO Clonic Earth 2LP
The experimental Italian composer, Valerio Tricoli, returns to PAN with a new album, Clonic Earth. His ongoing output for the label has long-presented his electroacoustic sound compositions which utilizes analog live sampling and real-time editing of field and studio recordings by manipulation of 1/4 inch tape. Asides from being a founding member of the Italian avant-rock group 3/4HadBeenEliminated, he has worked extensively with various musicians, choreographers and multimedia artists including Thomas Ankersmit, Antoine Chessex, Werner Dafeldecker, Anthony Pateras, and Robert Piotrowicz. His studio compositions often explore themes of the internal - psychological and physical - and of the occult, which, with the use of spoken text, makes them often deeply existential works, self-investigations of the irrational horror within. Clonic Earth is a perturbing, yet compelling mind-expanding work, marked by compositional strategies of exploded narratives, psychological insight and oracular literary references, where questions about the boundaries of spatial perception in the decoding processes of acousmatic music. Tricoli's allegorical and philosophical universe takes the form of an unhinged mind's landscape swarming with estranged sound objects in the complexity of details and surrealistic effects of Hieronymus Bosch's larger paintings. Compared to his previous works, the content of Clonic Earth explores more synthesized and heavily processed sounds, especially vocals, often appearing in the form of a religious, electrified chanting. The record is described by its author as a natural consequence of the internal collapse depicted in his previous record, Miseri Lares (PAN 044LP): "As if all the debris left inside my loudspeakers have been ignited to expand into the ether, to find a justification at the principle of Chaos, or Cosmos alike." This movement is expressed by references to the theme of fire as original matter in the Chaldean Oracles which, together with the later work of Philip K. Dick, are the main sources for the vocal/text elements of the composition. Fire serves the author a metaphor for the acousmatic listening experience itself: a borderline perception of sounds eternally fixed in their spasmodic disappearance, which could eventually drag us into a different layer of reality, drastically changing, subverting, or expanding the space in which they are diffused. A ritual, somehow, which may link the listener and the perceptive space that he inhabits with whatever lies beyond the loudspeakers - beyond the vibrating surface of the world. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M. Artwork by Bill Kouligas.

2016 repress; originally released in 2013. 140-gram LP. Includes CD. Thirty-six amazing tracks from the vault of Flipper Music, spread over two volumes. There was something strange and disturbing going on in Italy in the '70s. It was a tumultuous and visionary period of (post-) psychedelic excess. One that was defined, on the one hand, by random acts of terrorism and a heavy military police presence throughout the Italian territory, and on the other, by strobe lights, shattered taboos, and extreme gestures. A singular atmosphere that reverberated throughout every aspect of life -- from fashion, to design, to television, to film, literature, the visual arts, and, of course, music. Perhaps the area in which this feeling was most pervasive was that of the television soundtrack, made to accompany the TV programs of a country that, although in turmoil, was still vital and creative. The tracks found here are a perfect example of this feeling, and come from the large catalog of what is perhaps the most important Italian label in the industry, Flipper Music, which, by the end of the '60s, had published, through its many labels (RTV, Canopo, Octopus, Deneb, Flower, Flirt), hundreds of albums that are now long out-of-print and have become very rare. This music has the unique ability to remind the listener of that feeling of euphoric tension that permeated an entire country. Musical fears and obsessions straight from the most absurd decade of the most absurd country in the Western world. Volume one includes music by Giorgio and Franco Bracardi; Alessandro Alessandroni; Amedeo Tommasi; Peymont; Ugo Busoni, Paolo Ferrara, and Massimo di Cicco; Giuliano Sorgini; Gerardo Iacoucci; Lamartine; Daniela Casa; Joel Vandroogenbroeck; Fabio Frizzi; and Sandro Brugnolini.

GORBACHEV, PHILIPP Unlock The Box 2LP
Philipp Gorbachev's sophomore solo album continues the narrative of his previous releases on Cómeme, and serves as the inaugural LP on his own PG TUNE imprint. From imaginary places like The Delta, down to the dirty District, and with reverence for the heritage of the Russian avant-garde, Unlock The Box pictures a static and demodulated dance floor. Welcome to the 5th New Century. Finding ourselves in a confusing time, the essential urge and necessity to communicate love becomes as exhausting as hunting for diesel in Mad Max. The remains of global capitalism's overkill and marginal religious fanatics merge together as the ultimate threat to the human experience and can remind us that things can so easily spin out of control. We are also reminded of our elemental humanity; the need for love and dedication to each other, which can be so easy to forget when we lock our own boxes. Unlock The Box embodies the sound of a passionate young human being forced to create new tools to secure human existence in the future. In the 5th New Century, only one rule counts: love is limitless. With the recording process involving a wide range of digital and analog instruments, Gorbachev approached the album with his signature hybrid production. Similarly, his lyrics travel between both English and Russian, continuing the innovative linguistic style from the Silver Album (COMEME 005CD/LP). Early versions of these tracks have been field tested during a Russian tour, and take inspiration from the morning dance floor vibes and feelings. These experiences helped shape the concept of #DAYTIMERAVING: not a time of day, but an attitude. That light which shines independently from day or night, on a dancefloor and outside of it. Love is the message. Mixed by Phil Moffa at Butcha Sound NYC. Mastered by Mike Grinser at Manmade Mastering Berlin. Features Polina and Interchain. Comes in a trademark PG TUNE sleeve with art direction by Pablo Zuleta Zahr and ??????. Includes download code.

"Bricks Are Heavy was the third album by L7 originally released in 1992. Produced by Butch Vig Bricks Are Heavy is somewhat poppier with more focused songwriting than their previous LP's and was the bands breakthrough album fueled by the success of the single 'Pretend We're Dead'. L7 was often associated with the then raging Grunge movement (even though they were from L.A.) and it's not hard to see why as the album features abrasive, sledgehammer guitar riffs and plenty of heavy rockers with the songs 'Wargasm', 'Slide', and 'Everglade'. The group emphasized their feminist and Riot Grrrl side with 'This Ain't Pleasure' and 'Diet Pill'. First domestic release on red vinyl for this early '90s alternative classic."

HUTCHINGS, SOPHIE Wide Asleep LP
LP version. The Preservation label presents Wide Asleep, the third album from Sydney's Sophie Hutchings. Sophie Hutchings is a pianist and composer from Sydney. She began teaching herself piano at an early age before any tuition, developing her unique style through countless hours of secret practice. One of her earliest compositions, Hutchings has released three instrumental works to date, Becalmed (2010), Night Sky (2012) and White Light (2014), receiving fine recognition internationally for elegant and beautiful music compared to the likes of Nils Frahm, Max Richter, Peter Broderick and Dustin O'Halloran. UK music bible MOJO had Becalmed as one of its top five independent releases for 2010, calling the album "grand", "stirring" and "vigorous". The Guardian wrote that "her rippling piano has an intimate, contemplative quality." Other media have described Sophie's music as "frankly amazing", "unabashedly sincere" and "always with a genuine sense of beauty". With Wide Asleep, Hutchings has taken her compositional scope into larger realms of sound and feeling. It is her most searching work, based on ideas on consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. In her most dazzling and poignant pieces to date, Hutchings' piano lines extend with both electricity and elegance, winding through strings, textured ambience and choral voices through beauty and vitality. Reaching further with her music than ever before, Hutchings is in great company, recording Wide Asleep with Tim Whitten as producer, best known for his nuanced and dynamic work with The Necks. With Wide Asleep, Sophie Hutchings has once again taken her place as an accomplished and wonderfully engaging composer to fall in deeply with. Edition of 500.

GOLDEN FLAMINGO ORCHESTRA The Guardian Angel Is Watching Over Us 12"
"We've watched the movies, seen the photos, heard the stories. As in all of New York City, crime was as rampant in the subway as it was on the streets. Thefts, robberies, shootings and killings were a frequent reality throughout the 1970s. In 1979, a group of angered residents led by Curtis Sliwa began taking crime prevention into their own hands, donning red berets - looking very much like a gang and calling themselves the Guardian Angels. This funky track produced by the Legendary Patrick Adams and uptown empresario Peter Brown is an ode to what was happening at the time. Like many of the P&P records of the time, this wasn't dance music for flashy downtown clubs, it was the real uptown funk! 'With bass as heavy as rolling stock, and field recordings from the subway tannoy echoing along almost empty train carriages late at night, Margo Williams's vocals supply the inner city funk menace with some almost ethereal soul.' At a crossroads between funk, soul and an emerging hip hop culture this track appealed to both the disco crowd and the bravado of the uptown b-boys."

FAT MATTRESS Fat Mattress LP
Formed by guitarist/vocalist Noel Redding while he was still playing bass in a little group called The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fat Mattress released their debut in late 1969 on Polydor. Though Noel's more famous group was known for its hard edged psychedelic rock, Fat Mattress instead opted for the breezier side of things, with a distinct West Coast folk-rock bent. Drawing comparisons to Love, the Buffalo Springfield, and The Byrds, Fat Mattress is harmony-heavy and tuneful psychedelia. Though it was well received by critics at the time, sales were slow and Redding soon left the group. In the intervening years, though, Fat Mattress's fantastic debut has come to be known as a lost classic of psychedelic rock and this high-quality gatefold 180-gram LP reissue is a welcome relief from high-priced originals. WOLSKI, MICHAL La Mer CD
Micha? Wolski is a Polish musician, music journalist, radio DJ and tireless promoter of dub techno aesthetics. Eight extended compositions on his new record La Mer (Sea) recall those special moments when sound becomes a movement of a kinetic sculpture, an abstract painting, or a cinematic report from the Arctic solitude. Personal and introverted, yet simultaneously carrying certain universal message (cosmic loneliness? molecular life?), sound space created by Wolski manages to seduce the listener and inhale her/him for the whole 75 minutes. Associations with sculptural work with matter are not purely arbitrary. On his fourth full-length, Wolski consciously shapes complex and saturated forms, further developing - on evidence on his earlier releases - penchant for exploring darker alleys of synthesis and sound design. In his varied and consistent narration, one can find a whole range of references to noblest protoplasts such as Pan Sonic, Rhythm & Sound, or even Vatican Shadow's desert manipulation. However, the key to the albums consistency does not rely on the power of quote, it rather manifests itself in sheer scale and depth of imagined atmospheres and non-existent geographies. But Wolski's constructs are much more than a set of sea sound fantasies. La Mer is a highly individualist vision of new worlds of listening and hearing, truly deep acoustic ecology in time of overall hiss.

Jacek Sienkiewicz presents Hideland. Sound and rhythm are effective means of individual's self-defense in face of chaotic steamroller of everyday life. Hiding in a familiar yet simultaneously hardly recognizable parallel space does not have to result from the need to escape the world or nurture one's ego. Too many times to mention, music appearing under Recognition imprint served as a peculiar type of a vehicle of survival and a tool for internal transformation. Hideland, the new record by Polish electronic music producer Jacek Sienkiewicz is released precisely a year after Drifting (2015), which largely explored tropes of classical club techno sound. It is Sienkiewicz 's expedition into the unknown, exploration of topographical margins, both possible and impossible. The nine tracks comprising this album go beyond easy-to-pigeonhole genres, creating a microcosm of utopian sound constructs. This surprisingly unobvious and precisely composed release could be fascinating both for loyal fans and for new listeners looking for threads of experimentalism. In "Desert Plan" and "Kingdom of Lo" one can hear references to extra-temporal Detroit harmonies, while the minimalism of the title track or the alchemic trippy house of "Radionist" provoke questions rather than serve ready-to-use answers. Melancholic compositions of mosaic-like structure ("Gone") are distinctly contrasted with miniatures saturated with distant galaxy hum like "Summer 2016". From enigmatically rhythmic opener "Hide Away", to 12-minute-plus "Last Run" which sets obsessive percussion against impressionistic sound splashes, the constantly morphing and the self-contained 3D landscape of Hideland is a perfect place of seclusion, refuge, and hiding for lost souls and seasoned listeners alike. It's another intriguing proposal in Jacek Sienkiewicz's growing discography, but above all, it is a laboratory where dreams and artistic visions metamorphose into concrete reality.

MOROZOV, YURY Cherry Garden of Jimi Hendrix LP
2014 release. Shadoks Music present a reissue of Yury Morozov's Cherry Garden of Jimi Hendrix (1973). This may be the first time a western label is releasing an underground album from former USSR. Yury Morozov has sadly passed away but Shadoks worked out a release with his widow Nina for this amazing album. When Yury was asked in an interview of how many albums he recorded, the answer was 14,7 kilo (tapes). There are 45 albums by Yury and hopefully they will come out in Russia as a CD Box and Shadoks would release more. Cherry Garden is an amazing album full of effects, great songs, tons of fuzz guitar, sometimes dark and heavy, sometimes light and funny with the atmosphere of a Tarkovsky movie such as Stalker (1979) and Solaris (1972). Yury plays most of the instruments, and he actually built his gear and effects. Later on Yury recorded in London at Abbey Road Studios and became friend with many famous British musicians. Yury Morozov is an enigma of Soviet underground music. In 1973, his music was only available as tapes exchanging hands among fans since he did not match the political and musical Soviet guidelines. Cherry Garden is a surreal underground rock album which is a stand-out by International psych standards. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

WHITE LIGHT White Light LP
2015 release. Shadoks Music present the never before released White Light self-titled album, recorded in 1976. White Light was a progressive-rock group originally from New Orleans, then later from Austin, Texas, USA, where the group once recorded with Sonobeat Records (Mariani, Wildfire). White Light was comprised of Mike Hobren (guitars and vocals) Rob Haeuser (bass and synthesizers) and Rusty Haeuser (percussion and flute). On White Light's self-titled album, fans of mid-'70s progressive rock will be treated to a real romp of experimental music that utilizes a host of instrumentation and special effects. The group's music is powerfully expressed on the track "Pacemaker". Mike Hobren employed a diverse range of styles and techniques on the guitar, including the use of a cello bow on the introduction to the track "Stargazer". Rob Haeuser's bass grounded the music perfectly, and his synthesizer work was, at times, haunting. Rusty Haeuser provided well-rounded percussion to inject a powerful rhythm line into the music. White Light was heavily influenced by progressive groups like Yes, Pink Floyd and Weather Report, to name a few but with a fresh twist of their own. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

SEPI KUU Rannan Usvassa LP
2015 release. Shadoks Music presents a reissue of Sepi Kuu's Rannan Usvassa (1980). Until now there has been no information at all about Sepi Kuu. It wasn't even certain if Sepi Kuu was a real band. Sepi Kuu was a one-man project and the music has never been performed live. The artist kept his real identity hidden behind his alias and wants to keep it this way. It all started February-March 1980, when Maarit, the wife of the poet Mikko Tola, got in touch with Sepi Kuu and asked him if he'd be interested in composing music for her husband's poems. Sepi Kuu did all the arrangements and played all the instruments, except for the bass on track six. Often the acoustic guitar was recorded first, then the other instruments: electric guitar, drums, synthesizer, flute, Indian bells and/or clay drums were added one by one. The vocal parts were always done last. The twelve songs that make up Rannan Usvassa contained influences from psychedelic to folk and oriental. Sepi Kuu said rather the psychedelic-prog-folk of the English band Comus was a big influence for him but also Pere Ubu, Suicide and Joy Division were found as influences. Rannan Usvassa is full of real stoned sounds, dreamy dark vocals, strange vibes and atmospheres, all connected to the poems of Mikko Tola. Great singing, Hawkwind-type of sounds, Parameter, Dr. Hooker, stoned, strange and spherical. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

WRITING ON THE WALL The Rockfield Sessions LP
2015 release. Shadoks Music presents Writing On The Wall's The Rockfield Sessions, recorded in 1973. Writing On The Wall were a Scottish psychedelic/progressive rock band from active 1967 to 1973. Continually on the road for six years - everything from radio, TV, British & European tours - Writing On The Wall were one of the very few bands to have held two residencies at the famous Marquee Club in London. The band issued only one official studio album, The Power of the Picts (1969). Like many evolving groups caught in the midst of rapid musical evolution in the late sixties, Writing On The Wall retained much of the blues influence which they mixed with a heavy and sometimes uneven blend of psych. They had idealistic and often abstract lyrics reminiscent of groups like Blues Image, Cactus and Babe Ruth. Writing's music tended toward a more somber tone than most of their peers, and the band further distinguished themselves by relocating to England to make somewhat of an impression on the British scene of that day. The band recorded for DJ John Peel in late 1968, and released their sole album on Brian Waldman's fledging Middle Earth label. Waldman also served as the band's manager, and secured them gigs in his club, also named Middle Earth. The Rockfield Session where recorded in 1973 with a new guitarist/singer and saxophone player. Jimmy Hush, the original Writing On The Wall drummer, located the master tapes and mixed them for the first time. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy velvet textured sleeve. Includes a two-page insert with a story by Jimmy Hush. Edition of 500 (numbered).

Brothers, guitarist Claus Bøhling (of Secret Oyster), drummer Jens Otzen and British vocalist and bassist Mac MacLeod formed the power trio Hurdy Gurdy. KUTIMAN 6AM CD
Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, orchestra leader, digital mixologist, filmmaker, "psychedelic funk architect" Kutiman is perhaps best known for his innovative YouTube mash-up project ThruYOU. He also received an honorable mention in Time's 50 Best Inventions of 2009, performed at YouTube's launch exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, and has travelled to Krakow, Jerusalem, Tokyo, Riga, and New York to create original audio/visual montages of each city's atmosphere. The second release off Kutiman's own label will be kicked off with his much-anticipated sophomore album 6AM. 6AM really does prove Kutiman has no musical boundaries; it is an album filled with psychedelic rock n' roll roots, dips into deep funk/soul grooves and even adds underlying influences from Africa and the Middle East. 6AM stands as Kutiman's most song-oriented outing to date, with strong melodies and unforgettable hooks accompanied by lush and rich orchestral sounds. The album's first single "Shine Again" starts with a signature Kutiman orchestra bit that leads into a strong and fuzzy rock n' roll lick, spiraling into a Middle Eastern tinges with powerful vocals carefully layered across the top of the catchy hook. "Shine Again" displays Kutiman's influences, and his ability to seamlessly merge them into what is sure to be a classic.

MUSLIMGAUZE Ali Zarin 2LP
With the massive amount of material Bryn Jones had left in the vaults when he passed away in 1999, it's hard to truly assess his progression, stylistic or otherwise, over the years. And his reasons for choosing to release one tape's worth of material over another's were sometimes as mysterious as anything else about his work as Muslimgauze. But upon stumbling onto the material found on the undated tape known as Ali Zarin, it's hard not to wonder how it would have been received if it had been released during Jones's lifetime. The three-part, 43-minute title-track (the only part of the material to be given a proper title) makes for some of Jones's most relentlessly driving work ever. As soundbites about occupation and Israel float in and out of the mix, a series of crashes and scrapes and a distorted beat contort themselves into shapes and patterns, wearing a cracked, scraping groove into the ground. For almost 22 minutes, the first part of "Ali Zarin" finds frantic beauty in the dense repetition of these elements; when the sounds remain but shift place and emphasis in "Part 2," it's almost shocking. Even more than most Muslimgauze releases, "Ali Zarin" sounds like it could have come out in the mid-'90s and remain equally contemporary. Although "Ali Zarin" could easily stand on its own, that doesn't mean that the rest of the contents of the tape aren't worth sharing as well. These four untitled demos and a brief "Rest Track" sketch show more directions in which Jones might have gone (but didn't, at least based on what has been uncovered so far), especially the prowling late-night ambience and conventional drum kit loop of "Demo-01" and the densely looped bass pulses of "Demo-04." It just serves to confirm the breadth of riches in Jones's archive, and make the listener wonder what else is waiting to be unearthed. Limited edition of 500.

DAS KOMPLEX All For Love 2LP
Catz 'n Dogz present Das Komplex's All For Love on their raw and refined imprint, Step. This comes in the follow up to records from A1 Bassline, Eduardo De La Calle, Andre Kronert and the label owners themselves. Hailing from Koszalin, Poland, Das Komplex is undoubtedly an artist of many talents - a full-time architect by trade, he has released material on Father And Son Records And Tapes label and also offered up the extolled and coveted sixth pressing on the Step imprint back in August 2015, Universe (STEP 006EP). His return marks the first foray into long-play format for Step and allows Das Komplex to stretch his legs across eight masterful disco grooves. "D?em" kicks things off to a sunny start with sizzling guitar licks and softly pattering bongos before the slick Italo-tinged "Obelisk" and the richly atmospheric "Redukcja Dysonansu Poznawczego" follow up. The project spreads out towards the jubilant and dreamy "All For Love" which leads into "Brukiew" - an introverted but ultimately feel-good conclusion that wraps up a beautifully balmy collection and another coup for Step Recordings.

BELL, SANDRA Dreams of Falling LP
"Dreams Of Falling holds a singular place in both Sandra Bell's discography and the evolution of New Zealand's underground music. Bell is a singer, songwriter and poet, currently residing in Auckland, New Zealand, who has been making records since 1984. Each one is marked by the place and time where it was made. The moody folk rock of Blackbirds, from 1986, expressed the anxiety of existence in Auckland's inner city while City Of Sorrows, made over a decade later in Berlin, articulated the instability of expatriate life in post-reunification Germany. Dreams Of Falling was made in Dunedin during 1990-91, when many of the more aspirant Flying Nun pop crowd had abandoned NZ's South island. The Xpressway label had united the disaffected non-conformists left behind into a self-reliant cadre, and the LP's personnel reads like an Xpressway who's who. David Mitchell (Exploding Budgies, Goblin Mix, 3Ds, Ghost Club) and Bruce Blucher (Alpaca Brothers, Trash, Cyclops) contribute stone-powdering guitar to three tracks, Kathy Bull (Look Blue Go Purple, Cyclops) bass to two, and Alastair Galbraith (the Rip, Plagal Grind) keening violin to one more. Peter Gutteridge's (The Clean, Great Unwashed, Snapper) distorted keyboard is a defining presence on two more. But Peter Jefferies' (Nocturnal Projections, This Kind Of Punishment, Plagal Grind, Two Foot Flame, Cyclops) drumming, piano, guitar, and 4-track tape wizardry are by far the strongest shaping forces on Dreams Of Falling. The album constitutes a convergence of the unvarnished Xpressway sound world and poetic lyrical expression. Bell is a poet as well as a songwriter, so words matter, and she often uses them to articulate experiences of displacement and an accompanying sense of loss. Maori legend, Australian geography, urban blight, and local catastrophe -- 'Floating Aground' responds to the mass shooting at nearby Aramoana -- are all present in Dreams Of Falling. It is at once a deeply personal work and a nodal point, focusing the inspiration of predecessors like The Raincoats and This Heat and projecting it into a future where artists like Azalia Snail and Circuit Des Yeux pay close attention." -- Bill Meyer, May 2016

Repressed. Gatefold double LP version. Pressed on translucent green-black vinyl. Never-before-released recordings of mythic Belgian kosmische band Kosmose (1973-'78). As this release demonstrates, their sound evolved from something deeply influenced by kosmische music to a purely improvised form of noisy free jazz. The whole adventure took place in the heart of the '70s, almost under wraps, though most rehearsals were taped by Neffe. RIYL Hawkwind, Can, Musica Elettronica Viva.

HOLM, ERIC Barotrauma CD
Subtext presents Barotrauma by Eric Holm. Eric Cardinale was born in New Jersey and moved to England in 2000. His first album Andøya (SUB 011LP), composed primarily out of two 30-second recordings of power lines in arctic Norway, was released on Subtext in 2014.The source material for Barotrauma was recorded in the Nordic fjords south of Oslo, an adjunct to Eric Holm's training at the Norwegian School of Commercial diving (Norsk Yrkesdykkerskole). While he was training, world oil prices collapsed leaving him with an uncertain future. Holm decided to record and film his dives, capturing the lonely calm of his isolation in the dark water. Like environments on land, the seabed is populated with machines, industry, and noise. Interference is everywhere. Engines, equipment, drilling: it is a mirror of on-land environmental exploitation. These six tracks were created between 2014 and 2016, using the sounds Holm collected from the sea floor and subsea equipment, which he then manipulated and processed, shaping a vision of his time in this underwater environment.

VA The Kankobela of the Batonga LP
SWP Records present a compilation focusing on the kankobela titled, The Kankobela of the Batonga. The kankobela is the thumb-piano of the Batonga people who live on either side of Lake Kariba, in Zambia or Zimbabwe. Upon hearing this music, it is hard to believe that the kankobela is an acoustic instrument considering its "electric" qualities. The "distortion" is made by taking the membrane a mother spider spins around her eggs and stretching it over a small hole in the hardwood plank of the instrument to create that wonderful buzzing. The "wah-wah" effect is achieved by lifting the plank at one end slightly off, then back on the resonator. The less taut the membrane, the heavier the buzz: "Tongatronics" but without any electricity! Other-worldly songs, mesmerizing time patterns - groovy, funky, ancient yet modern. Recordings by Michael Baird. Features: Nyeleti Mukkuli, Edward Mun'goma, Daunzi Munsaka, Johnny Mudenda, Aaron Nchenje, Andrew George Munyumbwe, Leonard Mweemba Siapwayuma and Timothy Mudimba.

The compilation features an all-star line-up and includes many formative classic tracks by scene-defining producers of the era. If you were there at the time, you will know this was a definitive compilation for both Tectonic and for dubstep in general. Ten years later and Tectonic are celebrating this seminal release with a special edition reissue, collating all eight tracks from the 10" series into a double vinyl 12" pack. "Bahl Fwd" opens the compilation in fine style. It's known for being Skream's weightiest ever production, and when dropped on the right system will cause buildings to crumble. It's an all-star lineup though and alongside we also find underground anthems from Digital Mystikz' "Molten", Oris Jay under his Tectonic alias DQ1,with "Wear The Crown"; Roly Porter of Vex'd under the guise of Armour with "Iron Man"; Distance's trippy sitar-led "Temptation"; MRK1's grime-dubstep crossover sound of "Slang"; Hijak's drifiting "Nightmarez" and, of course, one of the all-time Loefah classics, "System". MOORE, DUDLEY Bedazzled - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP+CD
A legendary soundtrack to a legendary film. Originally written by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore for the cult British movie Bedazzled (1967). A sublime musical mixture of pop, jazz, psyche and stupidity, this rare score sadly became the victim of terrible bootlegs in the late '90s, when classic 1960s scores became very much in demand to the easy/jet-set/soundtrack in-crowd. First pressings have always been very hard to find. This is the first legal repress. It comes with the first ever repress of Peter Cook And Dudley Moore Cordially Invite You To Hell, an LP that was given out at the premier consisting of Cook And Moore's improvised radio spots for the film. All cues mastered and sequenced by Jon Brooks, AKA The Advisory Circle. Limited pressing.

VA Britxotica Goes East!: Persian Pop And Casbah Jazz From The Wild British Isles! LP
Britxotica! (pronounced "Britzotica") neatly describes an odd and yet undocumented pre-Beatles British musical scene where famed UK composers as well as unknown singers and bandleaders threw convention on holiday and went wild, A breathtaking follow-up to the successful Britxotica! LP (JBH 057LP) Britxotica Goes East!: Persian Pop And Casbah Jazz From The Wild British Isles! takes the listener on a magic carpet ride to a place where the sphinx, Sheiks, sand dances, tales of yashmaks, Turkish coffee, bizarre belly dances and caravans of camels are the magical, musical norm. But this is music made by post war jazz musicians and show girls from London. Yes, this is perfect Persian pop and killer Casbah jazz made by Eastenders. Features charismatic vocal cues about pyramids, late night desert tristes and outrageous Sutlans. It's also British music as rare and as beautiful as Tutankhamun's treasure. Offers a lost recording of "Caravan", an insane Eastern Kazoo number, several fierce instrumental dance numbers (one penned by Basil Kirchin) that will get you sand dancing all over the shop. Mastered and sequenced by Jon Brooks, AKA The Advisory Circle. Features: Beverley Sisters, Chico Arnez, Stanley Black, Johnny Keating And The Z Men, Charles Blackwell, Philip Green And His Mayfair Orchestra, Kenny Day, Tony Osbourne, Yana, Johnny Keating Kombo. Laurie Johnson, Roy Tierney, Reg Owen and Ray Ellington.

DE WITTE, CHARLOTTE Sehnsucht 12"
Charlotte de Witte continues her catalog of tough, no-nonsense techno with Sehnsucht. The EP includes in the package is a ruthless remix from Coyu. The title track is an apocalyptic march propelled by a purposeful kick and an unapologetic clap. "My Feeling" lays a circling, hypnotic vocal over scuttling claps and luminous, flashing hi-hats. Coyu steps in with his take on "My Feeling", pushing it into overdrive. "Enough" sets sharp drums knocking against cold and capacious textures. "Den Ganzen Abend" sees a pellucid German vocal sample creep over an ineffably weighty low-end.

AUTARKIC Rotation! Rotation! 12"
Autarkic, aka Nadav Spiegel, presents Rotation! Rotation!. If things were more down-tempo on his first EPs, these tracks point squarely at the dancefloor. The arrangements are especially strong, each song building in a way that feels exceedingly rare in dance music, in every case the second half elements come together in just the right way to surprise you, even make you fall in love. The somber vocals and unadorned production are just rough enough to make the unexpectedly beautiful twists and emotive flourishes call your attention and keep you hooked. There's also a slamming Red Axes remix.

TERRY Terry HQ CD
Love is a highway, but you're not likely to find Terry there anymore. He's on the train. Terry saw the light, and he put on his sunhat. Ring Ring - "If you're carsick, get outta the car!" There's only room for one big pug in this doggy daycare. Terry's taken to the night. Thank you nurse, I'll see myself out. LOOK! There he is, peeping through the cracks in your screen. Nuanced. Mercurial. Free. Blowing you a kiss. Marcel Marceau, Shmarshel Shmarsheau! But Terry? How unforgettable. What will you do when the cloud gives way? When the map leads you to a pile of potatoes? We wuz wrong. Hit me with your algorithm stick! Siri, is death an illusion? Siri, am I locked in a prison of my own making? Don't pull that thread kiddo. Siri's gone. Talk about truth! But when you're ready for real answers? Talk about Terry. "Their debut single features three doses of shambly Television Personalities/Swell Maps style earworm indie rock." -- Brooklyn Vegan "A nervy throwback to that late-'70s era when punk began to mutate in countless directions, matching a deadpan vocal with an incessant chord progression and piling on the sonic chaos. 'Why would you say sorry for that?' they wonder aloud, and certainly there's no need to apologize for keeping this strain of musical antagonism alive." -- Stereogum
