CUT CHEMIST Funk Off Megamix LP
New lower pricing. "Even before rising to international attention with Jurassic 5, Cut Chemist was known as one of best DJs in the game. Whether it's his solo releases on his own A Stable Sound imprint or over-the-top live performances with DJ Shadow such as Brainfreeze, Cut has always provided his audience with a musical experience that's fascinating, challenging and full on dope. Presented here is his latest, ultra-limited vinyl offering -- Funk Off Megamix. The debossed razor blade on the cover is a call out to the 'cut n paste' fashion of all of his mixes like The Litmus Test and Sound Of The Police. Funk Off Megamix explores the world of early 80s synth and drum machines primarily using material from his compilation Cut Chemist presents Funk Off. Cut redefines this gritty dark post punk sound culled from original cassettes into a hip hop club dance floor ready mix equally enjoyable when spun on your own turntable."

STILLS & MANASSAS, STEPHEN Bananafish Gardens, NY LP
Following the summer 1970 split of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Stephen Stills quickly formed Manassas with former Byrd and Flying Burrito Brother, Chris Hillman, as well as guitarist Al Perkins, fiddler Byron Berline, keyboardist Paul Harris, singer and percussionist Joe Lala, bassist Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels, and drummer Dallas Taylor. Playing a potent blend of blues, folk, country, Latin, and rock, they were an instant success. This superb set at the Bananafish Garden in Brooklyn on April 16, 1973, took place shortly before the release of their second album, Down the Road, in May of that year, and features material from both of their LPs, as well as material by Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, and CSNY. TRAGO, TOM Being Broke 12"
Tom Trago presents Being Broke -- a bright and groovy three-tracker aimed straight at the dancefloor. The title-track is a bumping house groove built with playful vocal samples and nifty synth lines. Next are two versions of "Good Lies" -- the first rolling out over its elongated duration with sharp, galloping hats and free-flowing Rhodes notes. The "Good Christian Edit" offers up a lighter, more early-doors affair bringing a nicely rounded package to a close.

SCHWABINGGRAD BALLETT/ARRIVATI Beyond Welcome! LP
LP version. Beyond Welcome! is an album of music that didn't exist before, made by people whose collaboration is altogether rather improbable, developed out of political-performative interventions in public spaces, and created against the backdrop of the recent migration movements to Europe. Beyond Welcome! is about border regimes, jazz, post-punk, electronic Afro-kraut music, the Germans and the non-Germans, about an encounter that goes beyond the "welcome culture", about staying strong without legal papers, about social dances and NATO, about Yoruba gods, about Eurocentrism, about ingenious dilettantes and the impossibilities of even imagining a different world, let alone wanting to push for it. Schwabinggrad Ballett, a political and performance collective that was founded in Hamburg at the beginning of the new millennium, began, in the spring of 2014, to work with Lampedusa activists living in Hamburg - a conglomerate of people from different African countries who fled to Germany prior to the outbreak of war in Libya, and who are still fighting for their right to stay. Raw musical ideas arose from their various performances and political interventions in Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen and other cities. These ideas created a framework around agitprop didactic plays and confronted the demonstrators and demonstrations with experimental dance music played on instruments that were mobile enough to be carried on the street - old drum kit parts, analog synthesizers, melodica, xylophone, congas, a nineties sampler or the Böhmat, a Brechtian organ machine from the '70s. Much like Schwabinggrad Ballett's debut in 2006 (STAUB 061CD/LP), this album was created in a commune-like camp atmosphere that brings to mind the marathon sessions in Sun Ra's Sun Studio in New York or Can in their studio in Weilerswist. In the winter of 2015/16, Schwabinggrad and Arrivati, a performance group that arose from the Lampedusa movement, rented a converted barn in Gut Reichenow in Brandenburg. After seven days and nights, 16 songs were finished, ten of which made it onto Beyond Welcome!. Three further tracks were recorded at the Art Blakey Studio in St. Pauli, Hamburg. Schwabinggrad Ballett and Arrivati are: Dieudonné Eboth, Jeano Elong, Ted Gaier, Charalambos Ganotis, Sylvie Kretzschmar, Latoya Manly-Spain, Heiko Marn, Heike Nöth, Peter Ott, Liz Rech, Christine Schulz, Oumar Traore, Margarita Tsomou, Christoph Twickel, Asuquo Udo and numerous other people who took part in their interventions, performances and concerts over the last years.

KRANTZ, ELIAS Lifelines LP
With his wayward mix of infectious melodies, unexpected time signatures and intricate arrangements Elias Krantz established himself on the Swedish alternative scene in 2007 with the album Island Rock released on Airwaves and then again in 2011 with Night Ice released on Country & Eastern Records. His album Lifelines challenges listeners to absorb each eclectic influence and sound experiment as a dynamic whole. Lifelines consists of two contiguous tracks/sides which enliven the ears and mind like the kinds of conversations worth staying up all night for. This richly detailed music employs a '60s Italian tape echo, analog synthesizers and various tape recorders to create a sound that is both retro and modern. Resisting contemporary trends of restless streaming and playlists, Lifelines's loop-based soundscapes demonstrate what's possible when we give the imagination room to breathe. By providing an unfractured listening experience, Lifelines is reminiscent of the dream-like narratives that emerge when music compels the listener to let it all sink in. Writing in the tradition of American minimalist composers like Terry Riley and Glenn Branca, Krantz spent several years carefully mixing his own tonal pallet, refined among the other productions and composing projects he works with in Stockholm. For Lifelines he finds inspiration in Japanese electronic music pioneers like Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto and in sources closer to home like the krautrock, electronica and jazz groups in which he has been a long-time collaborator in Stockholm, the town he is born and raised in. The result of Krantz's patient effort is a rush of dark exuberance and uniquely analog aesthetic. Includes download code.

Barbarisms are a Stockholm trio, fronted by American songwriter Nicholas Faraone (voice/guitar) with Tom Skantze (guitar) and Robin Af Ekenstam (drums). The melodies of their 2014 self-titled debut were compared to Guided by Voices and Built to Spill, while the lyrics drew parallels with Destroyer and Silver Jews. Experimenting with rough and ready recording methods to capture the spontaneity of their process, the band developed what Uncut described as a "breezy" aesthetic that highlights the "conversational poetry" of the lyrics. "Pitched somewhere between the playful jangle of Jeffrey Lewis and the off-kilter wisdom of Guided By Voices...a captivating slice of lo-fi wonder that shines like a gem shimmering in a pool of darkness." --Loud & Quiet

"Avalon" combines everything that's good about the Axes, with their signature new-wave sound taking in the tropics, but skewed through a middle-eastern kaleidoscope. "Sequência Astronomical" takes everything deeper, darker, and weirder than they've previously ventured, showing the huge growth in their confidence. HOWARD/WIGGAN/MAPP From Dust We Came... To Dust We Return LP
Noah Howard was an American alto saxophonist and a member of the avant-garde jazz movement of the 1960s and, amongst many influential albums, made the seminal Black Ark album with Arthur Doyle in 1969 (WEAVIL 024CD/LP). This album came about as a result of Justin Wiggan's love of Howard's music. Five years after Howard's death in 2010, Justin was in touch with his wife, Lieve Fransen, and learned that Noah had made a large number of private recordings playing solo on the alto saxophone. Lieve gave Justin access to these recordings and the freedom to develop an album in which he built electronic soundscapes around these solo passages. He then asked Chris Mapp to add bass lines to the foundation. The resulting music has been composed and edited by Wiggan to form this album. Includes download code. Edition of 500.

SAID, RIZAN King of Keyboard LP
LP edition of Rizan Said's King of Keyboard, originally released as a CD by Beirut-based Annihaya Records in 2015 (END 011CD). Reissued by Discrepant in collaboration with Annihaya. ''There is no other Syrian dabke musician that has enjoyed the local, regional, national, and international recognition that Rizan Said has, and for that, the world is lucky. Rizan is a musical ambassador from a disappeared Syria, and this is not to be taken lightly. Once upon a time, not too long ago, Syria was a culturally diverse country possessing a certain unity. A place not synonymous with barbarism and savagery. Far from the capital of Damascus, the northeast of the country, known as the Jazeera, was rich with history and culture. Rizan was a musical prodigy from a young age -- a gifted player of percussion and reed instruments before a wealth of synthesizers began flooding Syria in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Steadfast on the Syrian cassette album circuit at the time, Rizan the boy wonder was already sending his signals out from the Jazeera frontier, thanks to a partnership with local producer Zuhir Maksi. It can be said, that without Rizan Said, a good number of Syrian singers from the 1990s onward might never have been heard -- most notably Omar Souleyman, a collaborator with Rizan for two decades. Where synthesizers can bring a certain artifice and death to the sound of music, Rizan's torrential speed and flair on the keys bring new life to Syrian and Kurdish sounds -- lightning fast as required -- respectfully forcing the component sounds of folkloric dabke into the next level. This is the updated sound of the ages, where hand drums and reed flutes are now emulated and pounded out on Korg keyboards'' --Mark Gergis, April, 2015. RIYL Omar Souleyman, EEK.

DUB SPENCER & TRANCE HILL Deep Dive Dub LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Limited numbered edition of 500. The Swiss musicians, Dub Spencer & Trance Hill, bow down low before space rock, but without bypassing pure dub. Deep Dive Dub shines with a precision that demands they be named in the same breath as the famous Swiss watches. Swiss timepieces are renowned for their precision, and they tick along nicely even under water - The mechanics, the cogs, the striking mechanism, the chronograph movements, the repeaters, the speed-up. Thank Dub Spencer & Trance Hill for the fact that the cantons of this maximum-precision country should produce ultra-chilled slo-mo dub like this, a style that has avid fans all over the world. The band are known for the formidable interior dynamism of their composition skills, their classic riddim craftsmanship, the psychedelic sound of their guitars, the pounding bass lines that approach infrasound levels, the space sounds and their grandiose sound dimensions. Like few other electronically influenced styles, over the years dub has shown itself impervious and resistant to all manner of short-lived trends. There are probably few people who - regardless of which music ghetto they inhabit - have not encountered dub at some point. On Deep Dive Dub, the band dives deeper than Jaques Piccard's team during their record-breaking dive in Trieste in the sixties. The focus of this repetition is the fusion of reggae, even though, instead of the lightness that is usually inherent in reggae, the album focuses on heavy grooves, grooves that drift off into fat, dark, mature places. With a hypnotic power, the musicians - all of whom are trained jazz instrumentalists - dive into a world of space-rock-dub-electro. On a couple of the tracks the band invited the Lucerne-based experimental vocalist Bruno Amstad (who has previously worked with John Zorn and Phil Minton) to contribute. Neither a slave to the great Jamaican heroes of the seventies nor lost in the great wide world of electronic dub, Dub Spencer & Trance Hill tread their own path, reducing and abstracting as they dive deeper and deeper.

GUERILLA TOSS Live in Nashville LP
"The latest stop on the brilliant arc of the Guerilla Toss trajectory, Live in Nashville captures the unpredictable ecstasy of the band in live performance. From the Fat Worm-like form-breakdown of 'Drip Decay' to the irresistibly lop-sided groove of 'Diamond Girls', this is how Guerilla Toss was meant to be heard: very live and very loud. Although they change bass players the way Spinal Tap went through drummers, the core of this Boston combo - vocalist Kassie Carlson, and guitarists Peter Negroponte and Arian Shafiee - have remained a constant through their evolution. Beginning as a wildly anarchic take on the noise-art paradigm, they began to develop their strong rhythmic base almost immediately, and it's still the balance (or imbalance) between these elements that give them their secret power. An amazing concert act, this is the first real documentation of their live show. And while it's only an approximation of the full-on in-your-face experience of Guerilla Toss as their trouser-wetting best, it will do for the nonce. Nashville - come for the hot chicken, stay for the shattered disco balls. You'll be glad you did." -- Ted Lee (2016). Edition of 800.

Next are the spacious sounds of "Barabrus", a crisp piece of floating breakbeats and shoving sub-bass. VA Songs the Bonzo Dog Band Taught Us: A Pre History of the Bonzos 2LP
Repressed; previously: RSD 2016 release. 180-gram vinyl. Irreverent and anarchic, the Bonzo Dog Band were one of Britain's best-loved 1960s groups. But their eccentric brand of musical humor was not without precedent; they drew much inspiration from so-called "novelty foxtrot" records of the 1930s, which they lovingly learned from 78rpm discs. This compilation presents the original recordings of all such songs that they recorded and performed live. Painstakingly remastered, it comes with detailed notes, rare images, and an introduction from the great "Legs" Larry Smith, core Bonzo Dog Band member. The results are a series of lush, yet darkly affective, symphonic abstractions. Cavalier Song deploy a post-minimalist sensibility, referencing a range of art forms including painting, sculpture and literature. Musical influences include Philip Glass, Swans, Grouper, John Coltrane and King Crimson, each echoing a fascination for repetition, duration and modal improvisation. Produced by Stephen Cole. "Aurora" on the Lunar side, is a work by venerable Canadian producers Orphx. The title derived from the idea of conveying the Soviet art form on vinyl, using only soviet samples and synthesizers to present the new Russian-style, "Golden Era" '90s-influenced, instrumental hip hop. The initial cover concept was slightly different to how it materialized, quite plain and simple; with the traditional Soviet white and black color scheme and a cover photo taken by Volodya Kurashev, a Soviet sculptor at the exhibition for Eugene Vucetic. The back cover is a picture of the duo "cooking up heat" in the kitchen. The opening track features Maxiskratch.

From his early work with Joe Gibbs, Papa Roots, Black Ark, Gemini, Jah Life and Black Scorpio to the drum-and-bass definitions of Lincoln Valentine "Style" Scott and Errol "Flabba" Holt, Eek-A-Mouse has exceeded in creating highly desirable dancehall mantras with a social and satirical twist. The first release by Parisian iconoclast Joakim on DJ Tennis's Life And Death records is a miniature nocturne for dancefloor meditation, a cascade of unfurling fizzy moods and introspection. "Daemon" is the most Life And Death style track on the EP. It's full of modular synth tweaking and a nod to the '90s Detroit techno epic/melancholic vibes. "Would You Give Up?" started as a very slow "R&B meets techno" groove inspired by the freaky early Micronauts releases. The tempo change in the middle of the track (going from around 85 to 115bpm) is for the more adventurous DJs.

ZON Palace LP
Close friends and metalheads Phillip Tielsch (Von Spar) and Mario Katz (Cologne Tape) have long been meeting for guitar sessions, trying to "take in the essence of their favorite metal records and digest it in their own sound." Quite ambitious, but without any release plans. Magazine's Jens-Uwe Beyer found out about their project and pushed them to produce an uncompromising condensate of their raw material. Beyer cut here and there, contributed some additional production and also got John Stanier (Battles) in the boat for the drums along with Mario Katz. So Zon became a band and their first album, Palace, is an intense and sharp-edged instrumental metal set. Crato's B-side counterpart, a 27 minute drone ambient interpretation of the Zon material, completes this literally thrilling album. Wrapped up by John Harten's unique artwork series. 45 minute playtime. Features an endless loop on side A and inside out cut on side B-side. 180 gram vinyl comes in heavy stock sleeves.

SOARES, ELZA The Woman At The End Of The World (A Mulher Do Fim Do Mundo) CD
Repressed. Pitchfork: 8.4 -- Best New Music. Septuagenarian Brazilian music icon Elza Soares teams up with the cream of São Paulo's avant-garde musicians for an album of apocalyptic, experimental samba sujo ("dirty samba") that tackles the burning issues of 21st century Brazil: racism, domestic violence, sex, drug addiction and global warming. The Woman at the end of the World is Elza's 34th studio album and her first to feature previously unrecorded material, exclusively composed for her. Voted "Best Album of 2015" by Rolling Stone Brazil after its domestic release, it will now be released worldwide by UK based label Mais Um Discos. Over a sprawl of distorted guitars, squalling horn, taught strings and electronic shards, samba is savaged by rock 'n' roll, free jazz, noise and other experimental music forms. A true legend of Brazilian music Elza has an incredible musical oeuvre that stretches back over seven decades mixing samba with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and electronica, whilst her life story is a rags-to-riches-to-rags rollercoaster of triumphs and tragedies that has made her a voice for Brazil's repressed female, black, gay and working class populations. Her music career began in the late 1950s as she sung in clubs and hotels, sometimes being forced to perform off stage because of her skin color. The '60s was a career defining period with a run of classic albums for Odeon. After decades of hardships and artistic exploration, her latest muse is São Paulo's hyped samba sujo scene. Soares presents an album that walks a tightrope between post-rock and post-samba. "I knew this album would be a bold, modern sound" she says. "These songs are tense they do not allow you to relax". The album opens with "Coracão do Mar (Heart of the Sea)" with Elza reciting a poem from celebrated Brazilian modernist poet Oswald de Andrade. Title track "Mulher do fim do Mundo" uses carnival as a metaphor for the apocalypse and according to composer Romulo Froes "translates Elza's strength and indestructability". With The Woman at the End of the World, Elza forces the joy and sadness that personifies samba to confront the dirty truths of modern day São Paulo.

WRANGLER White Glue LP
LP version. The second album by Wrangler (Benge, Phill Winter, and Stephen Mallinder), following their 2014 debut LA Spark (MEME14 001CD/LP) and the 2016 remix release Sparked: Modular Remix Project (MEME16 002CD/LP). White Glue offers the 3D depth of analog equipment (the ancient synthesizers in Benge's MemeTune Studios have never sounded so good), but there's more funk than geek and more mod than modular in this tailored, minimalist design. Mallinder's vocals are a surreal joy, smeared with effects and electronics as they change, chant, and shift through the jump-cut lyrics. The opening trio of "Alpha Omega," "Stupid" (featuring Mallinder in a mutant-funk falsetto), and "Clockwork" (a nod to Kraftwerk, who famously name-checked Mallinder's Cabaret Voltaire as "brothers in popular electronic music") sets up White Glue with the crisp crack and thud of sequenced rhythms and lush synthesizers. "Dirty" starts like something from Forbidden Planet, pauses for a moment, then slams into a compelling funk beat with a bristling guitar riff courtesy of Julie Campbell (LoneLady). Mallinder delivers one of the most memorable vocal performances of his career, venting, sliding, and punching through the layers of noise with real urgency and bile. He employs his voice to more measured effect on "Stop" but it's no less hypnotic, a feverish guilt mantra of out-of-control consumerism. As the synths wail like sirens, one can picture Winter and Benge swaying to the beats, heads down, lost in the propulsive, (artificial) hand-clapping groove. The white-light techno rush, triggered synths, and chopped-up, multi-layered vocals of "Real Life" are followed by "Days," which slowly loops in then adds heavy bass and moody synth lines as Mallinder offers another striking vocal performance. "Superset" is a late highlight that features the band coaxing the rhythm into life before hitting hard with a lovely, deep groove. "Colliding" is the spacey krautrock closer, a beautiful, nuanced semi-instrumental song that exits with dreamy, abstract vocoder sounds and ambient synths.

PEEL, HANNAH Awake But Always Dreaming LP
LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Awake But Always Dreaming is the second album by Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hannah Peel, produced and recorded with long-term collaborator Erland Cooper, with orchestrations by Peel, in their richly analog studio in London and at Attica Audio Recording in County Donegal, Ireland. This is a work about memory -- the luminous and beautiful formation of memories and the devastating loss or slow, insidious damage to the mind. "I've read 1 in 3 of us will die with dementia, and a third of us are connected to someone with dementia through family and friends," says Peel. "850,000 people in the UK alone have it now and 2 in 3 people affected will be women. It's quite remarkable really, and it's getting worse." Peel has created an exquisite, distinct album of two halves, full of vibrant, direct color in the early stages contrasted with esoteric, dreamscape, legato movements toward the end. The bright, raw magic and joy of personal relationships are set alongside the gradual loss of Peel's grandmother to dementia. A childhood spent in the landscape of the Irish coast inspires a sense of openness in the music, but there's also a complex, darker, percussive thrust to these songs, as adult city life intrudes and, in its own way, inspires. The album has the feel of a dream in which all of daily life is expressed and decoded, from feverish rush hours to the old sunlight of Peel's grandmother's fading memories. She switches from panoramic city images in "Standing On The Roof Of The World" to the dissolving, hallucinogenic moments that define the second half of the album. The album's closer is a cover of "Cars In The Garden" by Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile), which returns memory to childhood ("find the place that we forgot") and features Peel's trademark music box and a sublimely coaxed-out, bittersweet duet with Hayden Thorpe (Wild Beasts). It's another fine shift in tone and perspective, from the grandeur and chaos of "Foreverest" to something very simple, surreal, and utterly moving.

Fashion aims to bring new life to some of these legendary tracks by having modern day producers rework them in their own style and introduce them to a new audience. From the frantic breakbeats of rave-revivalist Special Request and the bottom-end sonics of Toddla T & Melé, to the modern minimalist dancehall-tech of Machinedrum and the digital dub drone of The Bug, there is plenty to get excited about here. Poland's Radikal Guru serves up some classic dubstep, Germany's Jahtari crew take it back into '80s nostalgia with their 8-bit dancehall style, whilst modern reggae producers Wrongtom, Jstar and Mr Benn all show why they are on the forefront of the UK reggae revival. The tempo gets upped for some heavier jungle inspired remixes from Aries & Gold Dubs, Serial Killaz and festival favorites Dub Pistols, giving a little bit of something for everybody. BUSHMAN'S REVENGE Jazz, Fritt Etter Hukommelsen LP+CD
LP version. First pressing of 500. Includes CD. Bushman's Revenge have been called the missing link between Albert Ayler and Black Sabbath and a Marshall amp version of John Coltrane's Interstellar Space (1974). With Jazz, Fritt Etter Hukommelsen, their eighth album, they go all the way back to their humble beginnings and for the first time do what can loosely be dubbed a "proper" jazz album, hence the album title which translates to "Jazz, From Memory" in English. The goal, according to guitarist Even Hermansen, is still to explore the link between the Shorter/Coltrane world on one side and electric blues/Hendrix on the other, but without having to turn everything up to eleven. Sporting four originals and two covers - McCoy Tyner's "Contemplation" and Albert Ayler´s "Angels" - this is easily their most confident, spiritual, heartfelt and fully realized album. "Gamle Plata Til Arne" originates from the first ever jam session they had before starting the band and the album closer "Lola Mit Dem Gorgonzola" is an elegant slice of Scandinavian summer melancholy, in a jazz tradition first explored by legendary Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johanson in the mid '60s.

EARLY YEARS, THE II 2LP
Double-LP version in foil-printed, textured sleeve. The Early Years follow their 2006 self-titled debut (Beggars Banguet) with their second album, II. Recorded in their home studio in rural Cheshire, England; mixed in Atlanta, Georgia, by Jason Kingsland (whose previous work includes Deerhunter's 2015 album Fading Frontier), and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright (whose previous work includes releases by Mogwai and New Order). II is well worth the wait. It's stunning -- the sound of a band who have matured and relaxed into their playing, created without any external pressures or expectations. With the sheer scale of its scope and vision, it towers above the legions of kraut-psych bands that came along in The Early Years' wake. Opener "Nocturne" is a ferocious collision of human and machine -- guitars that evoke Will Sergeant on Neil Young's farm, Roland TB-303s squelching away, and the wild-eyed energy of Julian Cope circa Fried. Cope and the Bunnymen are reference points throughout, but II also recalls New Order (the elegiac "Fluxus"), Dean Wareham dueling Tom Verlaine ("Out Of Signal"), Spiritualized ("Hush"), and Harmonia meeting pre-definite-article-Verve (closer "Memory Case").

NAUTILUSS Reflections EP 12"
The Reflections EP is the Spectral Sound debut of Nautiluss, the primary project from Toronto's Graham Bertie. "Odyssey" begins with eerie chords and shuffling drums, constantly shifting underneath a layer of analog hiss and twinkling piano vamps. "Kodama" is darker and moodier, with deep chords, square wave basslines, and clenched hi-hats. "Alphaville" is acid by ways of the Nostromo spacecraft in Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) - hisses, clangs, and yelps cavort amongst a lone triangle, laser sounds, and high-speed flybys. "Lonely Planet" closes with radar pings and classic deep Rhodes chords.

An EP sampler of Megacity Servant (SVT 178CD), Reinier Zonneveld's third studio effort, a coherent 16-piece techno outfit tinged with experimental tones while playfully deconstructing classic acid and disco fragments. Techno mainstay vocalist Cari Golden makes a notable appearance on "Things We Might Have Said". "EHT" sees the artist layer on hefty polarizing synths. The cut boasts a powerful arrangement that is unsettling and playful at the same time, diving into dark techno realms. "Megacity Servant" makes use of the classic Roland SH-101's ability to emit a nearly tri-dimensional sound ray, unfolding newer details with each listen.

COMPTON WHITE Compton White EP 12"
Conceived in limbo, the Compton White EP tells the story of a childhood lived between many homes. Its creator, Lloyd Whittle, is part of a generation of Romany showmen -- "Sand Scratchers" -- who have settled on the coasts of Great Britain. The EP was written to capture the duality of the "island" and the "mainland." "There are moments of dusty, Dilla-esque hip-hop alongside edgy, aggressive electronics à la Evian Christ or Arca, but the producer's expert touch ensures the EP never feels too scattershot." --Pigeons & Planes, 2016

WALTON Gunman/Caught In A Trip 12"
Manchester's Walton leads with a dance floor crushing anthem that cruises a cool line between grime and tribal dubstep. Featuring a looping Riko Dan sample, "Gunman" sets a stone cold tone from the offset, hi-hats setting up the groove before a grime flavored melody cuts in preparing for the drop. "Caught In A Trip" builds around a developing melody played on a glockenspiel-esque instrument, backed with tribal percussion and a driving kick pattern. Ethereal in mood throughout, this one provides a lighter moment for the dance floor.

Wata Igarashi's decades of experience composing music for TV, web, live events, and beyond taught him the ins-and-outs of electronic music production - "the mood of his machines" - and led him to develop mind-bending techno timbres that recall the hypnotic artistry of Rrose or Donato Dozzy. Mood Of The Machines, a pristine techno record so perfectly composed, so tightly woven, simply speaks for itself. Each of the four untitled tracks offers a different bassline groove paired with slowly unfurling cosmic sound design, featuring synthesizer leads that sound like an aural glimpse into the inner workings of your brain.

75 DOLLAR BILL Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock LP
Restocked. 75 Dollar Bill, a project by Che Chen and Rick Brown present Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. "Che's interest in the Arabic modes of Mauritanian music has marked our sound quite a bit but I have brought some things, too. The plywood crate I play is a big factor, defining, by its positive qualities (a nice warm 'boom' sound) as well as by its simplicity, what we're likely to do in the percussion realm. Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock, this new record, differs quite a bit from the previous one, notably in the rhythmic 'tone.' Wooden Bag (2015) was all forward momentum, stomping and shaking, but the new record explores a long-standing interest of mine: odd and 'compound' meters. In most of my previous musical activities, I've convinced my partners to delve into this, but in 75 Dollar Bill it has just felt natural and I believe Che's modal investigations and melodic/harmonic tendencies enhance (and are enhanced by) this combination. The current record differs from the last in another big way: reinforcements! Over our few years together, Che and I have frequently had friends play with us at some of our gigs. There have been all sorts of permutations of instruments and some great friends/players who don't all appear on this record but here we are lucky to have a bunch of them: Cheryl Kingan (of The Scene Is Now) on baritone and alto saxes, Andrew Lafkas (of Todd Capp's Mystery Train) on contrabass, Karen Waltuch (of Zeke & Karen) on viola, Rolyn Hu (of True Primes) on trumpet and Carey Balch (of Knoxville's Give Thanks) on floor tom. Please enjoy Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. 'Earth' saw is one of our earliest tunes and, I think, the first result of this 'compound meter' approach. It's a slow 9 beat phrase Che came up with for this odd groove. 'Beni Said' has no fixed rhythmic cycle but a roughly unison melodic phrase and a pulsing, loose feeling of 3s and 4s played using a box full of bottle caps. 'Cummins Falls' features Carey Balch on Diddley-beat floor tom and me reprising the maracas. 'I'm Not Trying To Wake Up' is another of our compound meter songs, this one using an 18 beat scheme." - Rick Brown

Tiptop Audio Records present Angle's first EP Hold Your Breath. The title track moves along with a solid kick and sequencer pulse as ghostly female vocals flit in and out of the mix. Luca Agnelli remixes the title track down to a fairly minimal affair, bringing not only the beat but voice to the forefront. Maxime Dangles's "Hold Your Breath" remix highlights the track's rhythmic base, overlaying dense echoes and loops to a bass heavy underpinning.

BARTOS, KARL Communication (Box Set) LP BOX/2x7"/CD
Communication is the debut solo album by ex-Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos. Originally released in 2003 - 13 years after leaving the legendary electronic group - The album, referred to as his "lost album", is a concept record that deals with communication at the incredibly pivotal time in electronic media and digital culture. "Communication is about the way images shape our view of the world and how electronic media is going to change the contents of our culture." (Karl Bartos, 2003). However, such was the sense of foresight and depth of thought that Bartos applied to the world of communication in a vastly-shifting aeon that this theme remains as relevant as ever in 2016. Bartos produced Communication with sound engineer Mathias Black at his home studio in Hamburg between August 2002 and January 2003. The programmatic track "15 Minutes Of Fame" was the first single Bartos released and it was an exciting peek into the world that was his upcoming full album. Bartos used the Andy Warhol phrase as a template to comment on the rise of celebrity culture unleashed by casting shows, reality TV programs and cooking contests. Communication takes this theme and societal observations further by focusing them through multiple aspects, of what Bartos calls our "new media reality". Bartos's work should be received and understood as an amalgamation, and presentation, of both sound and vision. A heavy force in both the world of music and film, Karl Bartos has been presenting his live show, which includes his own self-directed films, on an international scale since 2000. Exclusively for the release of Communication, Bartos developed a pictographic visual language that the Hamburg-based agency, Weissraum, then further adapted for a variety of formats. Communication is the reintroduction of timeless statement. "It is not the business of music to be fashionable. The meaning of music is to bring people together." (Karl Bartos, 2016) Re-mastering by Michael Schwabe, Monoposto Düsseldorf, Germany. Artwork by weissraum.de. This edition of 1000 comes as a limited and hand signed box, including: 12" vinyl album Communication, an exclusive poster for "I'm The Message", limited 7" vinyl single Life, limited 7" vinyl single 15 Minutes Of Fame, three 7" photoprints, one signed photoprint signed by Karl Bartos, digipak album CD Communication, USB card including all audio formats with 12" remix by Matthew Herbert, video, graphics.

HEBB, BOBBY Sunny LP
180-gram LP version. Includes eight-page booklet. The 50th anniversary reissue of Bobby Hebb's Sunny, originally released in 1966. No soul singer of the 1960s boasted the singular array of contrasting influences that Bobby Hebb brought to the table. Hebb came up primarily country in his hometown of Nashville, proceeded to immerse himself in the hip New York jazz and R&B scenes, and had his biggest hit in 1966 with the self-penned "Sunny", a pop classic, a world hit and one of the most recorded songs of the century. Before 1961 was over, Hebb set out for New York and landed a booking at a nightspot called the Blue Morocco that lasted for more than a year. Hebb was soon ready to try out a solo singer-songwriter act on the big apple circuit. Bobby Hebb's brother Harald was murdered on the day after President Kennedy's assassination in November of 1963, but contrary to legend, those tragedies weren't the primary catalysts for Hebb to write "Sunny". They may have figured into it somehow, along with the civil rights struggle then in full swing. In one interview, he mentioned being lyrically inspired by a purple New York sunrise after a long night out on the town. Producer Jerry Ross conducted his Mercury sessions at New York's Bell Sound with a coterie of top session men that included guitarists Vinnie Bell and Eric Gale. Ross recruited Joe Renzetti, a former Philly session guitarist, as his arranger for Hebb's first Philips session. Surprisingly, "Sunny" was the last song waxed on February 21, 1966 at Bell Sound. First up was "Bread", a surging soul number about filthy lucre written by Hebb. Then came the Jimmy Roach-penned rocker "I Am Your Man" (featuring one of Bobby's fieriest vocal performances) and a relentless "Love Love Love", the work of Ross and Renzetti. Finally, they got around to laying "Sunny" on tape. Bobby's inspiring lyrics and riveting vocal were exquisitely supported by Renzetti's modulating arrangement, steadily building excitement from start to finish. "Sunny" broke out during the spring of '66, catapulting to #2 pop and #3 R&B in Billboard as it went gold. Suddenly Bobby was in high demand, appearing as one of the preliminary acts on The Beatles's last American tour.

HEBB, BOBBY That's All I Wanna Know LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Trocadero present a reissue of the third and final Bobby Hebb album That's All I Wanna Know, originally released in 2005. Bobby was living in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2000 when Rüdiger Ladwig found him. The pair subsequently worked together on compiling two volumes of A Collection Of Various Interpretations Of Sunny for the Trocadero label, released in 2012. The two CD anthologies contained 33 vintage versions of "Sunny", including Bobby's own, that underscored the incredible wealth of contrasting renditions of Hebb's signature theme. Soul (James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops), jazz (Stan Kenton, Herbie Mann, Ella Fitzgerald, Jimmy Smith), pop (Dusty Springfield, Jose Feliciano, Shirley Bassey), rock (Gary Lewis & The Playboys, The Ventures) -"Sunny" was truly universal. Hebb recorded his third and final studio album, That's All I Wanna Know with the producer team Konstantin Wienstroer, Veit Lange and Jürgen Dahmen with Rüdiger Ladwig as executive producer at Black Sheep Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, proving conclusively that his unique sound was as relevant and bracing as ever. Released in 2005, the disc contained soul-steeped revivals of Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes", Little Milton's "We're Gonna Make It", and James Carr's title cut as well as remakes of gems from Bobby's heyday ("Love Love Love", "Bound By Love", and "Cold Cold Night" a Hebb/Phil Medley composition that Philips never issued). Bobby tipped his hat to Hank Williams with a brisk "Cold Cold Heart", and the set featured a lovely treatment of "Sunny" that paired Bobby with Astrid North, former lead singer of the German band Cultured Pearls. It marked the only time Hebb cut his trademark theme as a duet. Bobby Hebb passed away August 3, 2010 in his hometown of Nashville. Although he'll always be remembered for "Sunny", his recorded legacy is a lot richer and fuller than one certified 20th Century classic.

TERRY Terry HQ LP
Repressed; LP version. Love is a highway, but you're not likely to find Terry there anymore. He's on the train. Terry saw the light, and he put on his sunhat. Ring Ring - "If you're carsick, get outta the car!" There's only room for one big pug in this doggy daycare. Terry's taken to the night. Thank you nurse, I'll see myself out. LOOK! There he is, peeping through the cracks in your screen. Nuanced. Mercurial. Free. Blowing you a kiss. Marcel Marceau, Shmarshel Shmarsheau! But Terry? How unforgettable. What will you do when the cloud gives way? When the map leads you to a pile of potatoes? We wuz wrong. Hit me with your algorithm stick! Siri, is death an illusion? Siri, am I locked in a prison of my own making? Don't pull that thread kiddo. Siri's gone. Talk about truth! But when you're ready for real answers? Talk about Terry. "Their debut single features three doses of shambly Television Personalities/Swell Maps style earworm indie rock." -- Brooklyn Vegan "A nervy throwback to that late-'70s era when punk began to mutate in countless directions, matching a deadpan vocal with an incessant chord progression and piling on the sonic chaos. 'Why would you say sorry for that?' they wonder aloud, and certainly there's no need to apologize for keeping this strain of musical antagonism alive." -- Stereogum
