KINBRAE Tidal Patterns CD
Kinbrae is the musical project of twin brothers Andy and Mike Truscott, who grew up in the countryside of Fife and are now based in Edinburgh and Dundee, Scotland. Kinbrae take their influence from minimalist, classical and ambient music. Inspired by the remote Isle of Coll in Scotland, Tidal Patterns is an album that explores remoteness, seclusion and the feelings that these can evoke. The album makes use of the unique sounds that can be heard on the island, gathered through field recordings depicting the wildlife, culture and ambience of the remote region. These field recordings have been complemented by rich orchestral scores. From a starting point of piano and brass, the brothers have augmented their arrangements to include a range of instruments including strings, synthesizers, kalimbas and various other instruments.

MILLIS, ROBERT The Lonesome High LP
Robert Millis is known for many things - co-founder of Climax Golden Twins, Messenger Girl's Trio, and AFCGT; filmmaker and producer for the Sublime Frequencies label; co-producer of the Victrola Favorites book and cassette series. Now, thanks to The Lonesome High, he'll be known as a singer/songwriter. After listening to his stunning debut album, you'll be wondering where the fuck this side of Millis has been lurking all along. He's been performing some of these tracks live for the past few years crafting them to where they are now - tilted perspectives lodged somewhere between the grittier climate zones of the the Rain Dogs (1985) plateau and a more psychotic trailer park way out on the Death Of A Lady's Man (1977) peninsula. Millis really delivers the goods here. The songwriting has depth, stinging clarity and vaporizing ambiguity. The more upbeat tracks like "The Run Around", "Down In The Hold" and "Tricky" have an immediate classic familiarity - hear them once and you're hooked. But The Lonesome High becomes a monster statement thanks to "Marvelous Fool", "Charming Chisel", "Notes On A Scandal", and "Drowsy Sleeper". It's the stark cryptic beauty and detached awareness of these four ballads that define the heart and soul of this record. So if you're looking for a contemporary troubadour who can actually deliver a solid 40 minutes of listening pleasure (not an easy task these days), you'll find it right here in spades. Features percussion by Dave Abramson (Diminished Men/Master Musicians Of Bukkake), backing vocals by Alan Bishop (Alvarius B/Sun City Girls). Front cover art by Jesse Paul Miller; Includes a download card.

MICRONAUT, THE Forms CD
The Micronaut creates the soundtrack for those moments when the screeching of the subway and the steps on the wet pavement have echoed away into the dark city sky; Those moments when the ghosts of fumes and stop lights haunt the empty streets, when behind glowing windows dreams and urban exit strategies get ready for bed; When everybody is close to each other, but everyone is on his own; When the city comes to a standstill, but the wheels inside the heads of its inhabitants keep spinning. Stefan Streck discovers the musical equivalent for this epic atmosphere somewhere between bass music, electronica and pop. The cinematic soundscapes of his nocturnal city blues have a somewhat tragic vibe, which is very noticeable both during the impulsive, passionate live shows of The Micronaut and on Forms, his third studio album on Acker Records. Between moments of deep melancholy and sudden eruptions of blissful euphoria, he creates a feverish state of tension. Features Saskia Arndt, Sebastian Bode, Laura Deadelow, I Am Halo and Robert Groos-Albouts.

VA Sri Lanka: The Golden Era Of Sinhalese And Tamil Folk-Pop Music 2CD
Sri Lanka still remained one of the rare South Asian countries whose folk-pop music from the 1960-70s had not yet been compiled abroad. This gap is now to be filled with Sri Lanka: The Golden Era Of Sinhalese And Tamil Folk-Pop Music. This compilation presents the diversity of Sri Lankan musical styles between 1967 and 1979 through 30 titles. It comes along with a booklet depicting the country's historical, cultural and musical context. Sri Lanka possesses a great variety of musical traditions and influences which have been shaped by centuries of regional and international exchanges. If Sri Lankan music is undeniably part of South Asian musical culture, its heritage is also a product of almost five centuries of European imperialism. Coming from an original form of creolization, as defined by Edouard Glissant, the baila bears the trace of both the African diaspora and the Iberian influences on the country. The Kaffirs - African slaves deported by the Portuguese - introduced African sounds, while the Portuguese brought their musical traditions and instruments (cavaquinho, mandolin, violin, tambourines). The baila, reminiscent of Caribbean calypso, became the ultimate popular music and dance. The sarala gee (also called light classical music) is a combination of Indian inspired music, either classical or close to Bollywood productions, with Sinhalese lyrics and a slight pop accent. In the early 1960s, the music label Sooriya Records, with founder Gerald Wickremesooriya, were determined to put into light proper Sri Lankan music. Wickremesooriya invented the "new sound of Ceylonese pop" and quickly, the label's hits were broadcasted on Radio Ceylon, the number one radio for a long time. Sooriya Records's catalog reflected the diversity of Sri Lankan musical styles of the times: Anglo-Saxon influenced Sinhalese pop stood next to the baila or the sarala gee. Traditional instrumental music, were also edited by the label. This selection, mainly constituted of titles from Sooriya Records's catalog, presents the most popular artists of the times. Features: Pau Fernando, W.D. Amaradeva, Clarence Wijewardena, Paramesh, The Fortunes, Sanath & Malkanthi Nandasiri, A.E. Manoharan, Pani Bharatha & Party, Mignonne & The Jetliners, Shan, Amitha Dalugama, Maxwell Mendis, Police Reserve Hewisi Band, Shiromi Fernando, Wimala Amaradeva, Indrani Perera, Winslow Six, The Moonstones & Indrani Perera, Sidasi Turya Vadayako, Nalino Nel, Los Flamincos, Lilanthi Karunanayake, Claude & The Sensations With Noeline Mendis, H.R. COMELADE, PASCAL Rocanrolorama (1974-2016) 6CD BOX
Since the release of his first album in 1975, Pascal Comelade has worked profusely and participated in numerous collaborations with Richard Pinhas, PJ Harvey and Robert Wyatt. His compositions, depending on the period and their singular mixes, are reminiscent of MC5, Erik Satie, Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone and Suicide. Pascal Comelade has created a language, dancing on an indefinitely moving musical skeleton, from stripped-down sexiness to overly dressed orchestral sounds, by successive combinations, mixing both folklore, underground, repetitive and variety music, pataphysical riffs and toy-like instruments. He is a renowned artist, extensively supported by the general and musical press. Rocanrolorama (1974-2016) is the result of a process Pascal Comelade started in 2011, re-reading his repertoire which includes albums, cassettes, unreleased and exclusive material, live, alternative, re-recorded and re-worked versions. This self-revisited anthology is a six-CD box set, including an exclusive hand-numbered lithograph and a 72-page booklet with notes, credits, drawings; Edition of 1000. CD 1, My Degeneration (1974-1986), features: David Cunningham (Flying Lizards), Richard Pinhas (Heldon), Armand Miralles (Heriatus), Victor Nubla (Macromassa). LA FEMME Mystere 2LP
Repressed. French pop connoisseurs La Femme present Mystère. La Femme have made a huge mark on modern Paris's cultural landscape, with the two sides of the city - the glamour and the grit - ingrained in their music. Since the release of their debut album, Psycho Tropical Berlin (BORNBAD 051LP, 2013), their rise has only gained momentum with fans including directors Jacques Audiard and Romain Gavras to legends Jean Michel Jarre and Hedi Slimane. Returning with a more psychedelic sound and guest vocalists that slice through the starkest of electro beats, Mystère sees La Femme celebrating their wonderful city. From the chattering tête-à-tête heard on "Conversations Nocturnes" to the throbbing disco beat of "SSD", a direct reference to the pulsing nightlife hotspot and multi-cultural district Strasbourg Saint Denis where the band is based. Mystère's true intrigue however, lies in La Femme's enigmatic questioning of falling in and out of love. A compendium of short stories describing loves and losses, each song breaks down language barriers through an inventive and astute knack for melody. The elation of a passionate encounter is captured on the ricocheting electronics of "Tatiana", the melancholic acoustic guitar echoes in "Le Vide Est Ton Nouveau Prenom" and the sorrow of a war-torn couple in "Psyzook". Whether delicate or drenched in dirty disco, the impact of Clémence, Marlon and Sacha's gothic mantras mixed with the guest vocal talent of Clara Luciani, Jane Peynot, Naomi Greene, Mathilde Marlière, Angela Hureau, Battista Acquaviva and Sarah Ben Abdallah is perhaps where La Femme's true meaning can be found. Sacha on his band's all-inclusive philosophy: "We don't like the idea of having a leader or a chief: everyone brings to the band what they can and want." Recorded between a castle in Brittany and a Paris basement before being finished up with Sonny Diperri (Animal Collective) in LA, Mystère once again sees backgrounds blurred and worlds collide. The band's chic retro-futurist surf-pop sound possesses the same dose of glamorous punk stomp as before, but this time around it's layered with an elegant fusion of influences from Ennio Morricone, Marie Et Les Garcons's disco-rock touch and the lysergic romanticism of The Velvet Underground. Through increased use of strings and further exploration of sound, Mystère also incorporates the band's new love of oriental sounds, Turkish disco, Tuareg blues, medieval psychedelia to mainstays Brian Eno and Pink Floyd.

FRUSTRATION Empires Of Shame CD
Frustration, the caring big brothers of the French indie scene, are closely intertwined with Born Bad's rise to fame. Their pathway in itself is symbolic: hailing from the garage closed circuit from the '90s, they gave up the tattoos and brilliantine rock to try something different - at the crossroads of punk and cold wave, of Métal Urbain, Killing Joke and Joy Division. The five fellows, not particularly renowned for their technical skills, found themselves invested with a peculiar grace, becoming avant-gardist just as they were entering their forties, and showing the way to a whole generation of bands that suddenly became aware that it was possible. Empires Of Shames is the third album by Frustration. They crushed mountain chains on Relax (BORNBAD 008LP, 2008), uncovered new continents and rainforests with Uncivilized (BORNBAD 046CD/LP, 2012), so it's only logical they now project to terraform Mars planet with this album that celebrates their return to a cold hostility that echoes the one of punks going by the name of a Polish capital city (Warsaw). "Dreams, Law, Rights And Duties", "Just Wanna Hide" and "Excess" are punches in the knees as signs of welcome from Fabrice, whose voice wanders from a Curtis-like spleen to a cockney spit. If "Arrows Of Love" sounds like the album's break, this mesmerizing Smiths-like ballad turns into a proletarian anthem, one of the peaks on the album. "Mother Earth In Rags" will undoubtedly be a hit, given its harangue as baroque and dramatic as a speech from Lenin; "Cause You Runaway" shows that the lads have also listened to James Murphy; and "No Place" is a synth-punk-noise gem that will generate one hell of a pogo at the end of their next concert. Frustration is now this fully grown-up lion that has no intention of ending up as a bedside rug. This is the only reason why we agree to give in to music, this intrusive thing that never asks for our advice. The rest is just a background noise of conceited babbling saturating the feed of our souls.

GASC, JULIEN Kiss Me, You Fool! CD
Following the inenarrable Cerf, Biche et Faon (BORNBAD 060LP), Julien Gasc (Aquaserge, Stereolab) delivers Kiss Me, You Fool!. Kiss Me, You Fool! leads the listener far away, into swarms of sound and sentimental, twisted tales, on a quest for illumination that traverses the rich palette of human passions. The title was taken from a graffiti discovered in the ladies toilets of a London pub. It is through this peephole that you can consider, like a voyeur, the paradoxical complexity of this album: At once witty, noble and degenerate, Julien struts his way through it with all the nonchalance of a night-owl dandy. A troubadour of modern times, he sings of unresolved love, self-mockery, the trivialities of daily life and the search for the absolute. The fruit of an exceptional artistic collaboration - featuring Laëtitia Sadier (Stereolab), John Linger (Neils Children), Cathy Lucas (The Oscillation, Vanishing Twin) and Joe Watson - this contrasting, emotional and heterogeneous album nonetheless forms a whole. Here, mirror plays, surrealistic songs and decadent poems unfold elegantly, seductive in their effortlessness. Countering the current norms, Kiss Me, You Fool! cultivates its powerful identity far from today's musical cliques and fads.

CANNELL & RHODRI DAVIES, LAURA Feathered Swing Of The Raven CD
2012 release. On Feathered Swing Of The Raven, Laura Cannell and Rhodri Davies create a rich and minimalist sound, combining chords and drones on recorders and harps oscillating with different tones and harmonics. It is inspired by fragments of English renaissance music and Laura's native Norfolk landscape. The two performers only met twice before they felt that there could be a common ground to explore and the result has produced an exciting new collaborative duo. Feathered Swing Of The Raven is a collection of improvisations and semi-composed pieces that are strongly rooted in the depths of an early music sound world. Renaissance harmonies and harmonic dissonances are explored with breath and bow, bringing to life fragments of melodies and ghosts of an ancient sound world.

CANNELL, LAURA Quick Sparrows Over The Black Earth CD
2014 release. Laura Cannell's inimitable style shines through as she steals fragments and melodies from the 5th-14th centuries on Quick Sparrows Over The Black Earth. She embraces the lightness and dark, the dawn and dusk ("Dagian & Duske") that exist in the spaces between medieval, traditional and contemporary music. Recorded in a series of single takes in a small medieval church in rural Norfolk, the ten tracks feature atmospheric improvisations around tunes played on fiddle with a deconstructed bow (taken apart and wrapped around the violin) and double barreled recorders (two played at once and based on medieval paintings and sculptures). Inspiration for the textures and tones explored in the rasping fiddle and dissonant double recorders comes from the surrounding Norfolk marshes and broads as well as from traditional and medieval styles.

VON DEYEN, ADELBERT Nordborg CD
Bureau B present a reissue of Adelbert Von Deyen's second album Nordborg, originally released in 1979. Electronic musician Adelbert Von Deyen's debut and sophomore album were released just a year apart from each other. Sternzeit (BB 237CD/LP) was followed by Nordborg, which featured only one track on each side. Again, Von Deyen took his time crafting a meditative maelstrom of ambient sounds. Von Deyen's debut album Sternzeit had caused quite a stir in 1978 in his home town of Lübeck, where the unconventional young artist found himself inundated with fan mail and booked for autograph sessions. His contract with Sky Records obliged him to deliver a set number of albums to the label - one per year. Enjoying financial independence, he was able to give up his job and focus exclusively on his music. Nordborg appeared in 1979 and featured just two tracks, one on each side. It was inspired by a short holiday in Nordborg on the Danish island of Alsen, which coincided with a violent blizzard. "Moonrise", the A-side title, is a slow motion improvisation on the rising of the moon on Nordborg. Opening with synths evocative of seagull cries, meditative soundscapes mesh together massive lead sounds in unhurried harmony. Winds swirl, synths twist into electronic spheres of sound, drifting without any clear dramatic structure. Immersed in introspection, Adelbert Von Deyen celebrates life in the moment. "Iceland", the B-side piece, is an acoustic interpretation of a snowstorm in Nordborg, Denmark, as remembered by Von Deyen. Perfect for Adelbert Von Deyen's artistic expression: sustained organ tones deliver beat frequencies, an electric piano pattern is lost in reverie, winds build through the ARP Odyssey, finally sinking into icy melancholy and detached organ tones. Towards the end we are reconciled by an almost sacral organ part which Adelbert Von Deyen brings full circle as he returns to the opening theme. Adelbert Von Deyen recorded the second album, like the first, on a Revox A77 tape machine in his little home studio. The instrument list echoes that of Sternzeit, with an ARP Odyssey performance synthesizer, a Farfisa VIP 233 organ, a Farfisa String-Orchestra, Hohner Clavinet D6 electric piano, rhythm computer and an electric guitar.

VON DEYEN, ADELBERT Atmosphere CD
Bureau B present a reissue of Adelbert Von Deyen's third album Atmosphere, originally released in 1980. Album number three from electronic musician Adelbert Von Deyen marks the end of his ambient phase. Whilst Atmosphere largely swathes listeners in familiarly vast expanses of sound, the driving analog drums of the opening track (Von Deyen's most successful, as it turned out) signal a shift towards electro-kraut terrain. Atmosphere showcases Adelbert Von Deyen at the peak of his powers. The opening track, "Timemachine", sees him launch into zestful electro-krautrock, aided and abetted by Wolfgang Zabba Lindner on drums. Lindner had already popped up in the early 1970s in a prog-rock combo by the name of Tomorrow's Gift and recorded an interesting experimental percussion album in 1974 with Carsten Bohn (Vollbedienung Of Percussion). He can also be heard on the second piece "Silverrain" (in rather less zestful mode). A further eight tracks follow - revolving around the theme of Atmosphere - layers of synths glide slowly by, accompanied by drones which resound for minutes on end. Beats and synth FX add to the air of contemplation. A huge amount of time and money went into the production of this album. Adelbert Von Deyen composed tirelessly in his home studio, experimenting with his synthesizers and searching for new sounds. Lars Hidde added the final touches, taking care of the mix and mastering at Star Studio, Hamburg. All in all, it was worth the effort. Atmosphere proved to be Adelbert Von Deyen's most successful album. In his biography he writes: "Reactions to this opus were extreme, but absolutely positive, especially in other countries. 'Timemachine' appeared on quite a few LP and CD compilations and became an instrumental hit, the single selling around fifty thousand copies!" If Adelbert Von Deyen's first two albums saw him strive for artistic and financial independence, Atmosphere marked the beginning of a metamorphosis. Atmosphere is still in the sphere of ambient electronica, but the first two tracks are indicative of a clear shift towards krautrock or electronic rock. Von Deyen's next album would head off in a different direction altogether. The soft rock ballads and socially critical lyrics of Eclipse (1981) came as a complete surprise.

SILVER APPLES The Garden (Colored Vinyl) LP
Colored LP version. White and orange splatter. Dubs of Silver Apple's third album, which had been mysteriously unaccounted for, were found in a cardboard box in drummer Danny Taylor's attic. The remarkable reunion of the original duo of Simeon Coxe and Taylor hadn't been planned. After 27 years apart, they were reunited when a disc jockey at New Jersey's legendary WFMU radio station received a phone call from Taylor for the station's pledge drive. Taylor had been out of the music business for years, and his call put the pieces in place for Simeon to forge a renewed excitement for the Silver Apples's earliest recordings. The recordings included seven complete songs from 1969 and seven drum instrumentals by Taylor in 1968. Taylor's 1968 drumming demos were blended with Coxe's 1998 "Noodle" efforts.

JOHNSTON, JAMES The Starless Room LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. German record label Clouds Hill present James Johnston's debut solo album The Starless Room. The Starless Room is vast in its scope - visceral, intimate and instinctive. The Starless Room represents a remarkable distillation of both Johnston's lyrical obsessions and prodigious, arguably under-acknowledged talent. Suitably, it's the title track that encapsulates the romantic sweep of the record best, with its star at his most intense and Sebastian Hoffman's string arrangements at their most ambitious. For James Johnston, however, the greatest pleasure of all is a simple one: the slow tempo of the songs, "Something I adore, like a lot of the Isaac Hayes or Ray Charles albums that I love. It almost feels like I'm listening to someone else's record." Like he said, it feels just right. As well as playing with Gallon Drunk, James Johnston has spent considerable time working with others: A mid '90s spell as a touring guitarist in The Bad Seeds led to a full role in Nick Cave's band between 2003 and 2008, and he's performed regularly with other iconic acts, including Lydia Lunch, Faust, and PJ Harvey, on whose The Hope Six Demolition Project (2016) Johnston appears. But if it sounds like he's softened on this album, he argues powerfully otherwise: "The band's records have quite an earthy feel, but in a way this is rawer, more focused and direct, musically and emotionally. The last Gallon Drunk record is my favorite, and it was certain elements of that which I really wanted to take further, to strip away the dissonance and anger, to reject the more familiar sounds in order to free it all up again. So the instrumentation is very different, led by piano and voice, and the overall sound is lush, yet intimate. Overall it's far more reflective of me, both as a person and the sort of music I actually listen to."

VATH, SVEN In the Mix: The Sound of the 17th Season 2CD
In the summer 2016, Sven Väth invited the global electronic music community to the Mediterranean island of Ibiza for the 17th time. Soft, friendly chords and bird chirps from Swedish producer Harald Björk woo the listener to the dancefloor. Väth weaves Ripperton´s upright beats into the track, using reverberations of a graceful melody. Melting the rhythms of reggae and house together, Rhauder absorbs this very special mood of composed ease with a unique groove, featuring the attentive voice of Paul St. Hilaire. After Love Over Entropy's "Sea", Kamran Sadeghi's fascinating synth hooks develop space-grabbing shapes. Alex & Digby translates this colossal sonic drama into a humorous, imaginative orchestra of rustling and chirping sounds. Väth pushes the firm bassline of Traumer into the track, positioning the set firmly to the dancefloor. With the luscious house groove of Omar S, Väth reaches a magical Zen moment. With John FM´s vocal, a charming love song lightens the set up. Eddie Fowlkes translates this sense of longing into a rich fusion jazz, developing a strange poetry. Christopher Rau (C-Rau) contrasts this appreciation for elegance with a determined bass drum. Finally, Väth plays a track of his own, "Electrica Salsa". Remixer Roman Flügel uses futuristic, crystal-clear sounds, simultaneously revealing the modernity of the track. The final track of disc one is by Pantha Du Prince. Levon Vincent does not even need a bass drum for an electrifying piece of house music. With a pulsating bassline and an over-the-top organ solo, Redshape manages to be even more thrilling. Hot City Orchestra and André Galluzzi suspend this tension with an atmospheric techno track. Adam Port merges the diverging energies into a single, pulsating synth pattern. Damian Lazarus and Kölsch release this straightforward flow with soulful melodies. Margot condenses Kölsch's exuberance into a deep euphoria - wobbling synths mutate into Danny Daze's sawing acid track. Kölsch's remix uses a grumbling, doggish synth pattern to anchor all the multifaceted sounds of "Robot". With a gloomy, huge techno track featuring Mr. V, Slam exhibits another level of seriousness. Robert Hood (Floorplan) picks up this tension between techno and soul and pushes it even further. With Bart Skills, Väth reaches his finale. The very special Johannes Heil has siren-like winds flashing up abruptly. Väth immerses himself into the pure, rhythm-driven energy with Emmanuel's heavy, resonant synth tracks. Väth finishes this amazing set with the labyrinthine, trippy synthesizers of Konstantin Sibold's "Mutter".

TUNNELS OF AH Surgical Fires CD
Following the sulphureous sting of 2015's Thus Avici (CSR 206CD), Tunnels Of ?h's third album, Surgical Fires, is a dense, fermentative working. Asemic vocals are sunk beneath an alienated electronic landscape of seismic drones and paranormal frequencies. Loss, gain, conflict, resolution, decay and transformation as an initiatory path is the current running through Surgical Fires; the surgery alluded to in the title being psychic surgery. Surgical Fires is another singular Tunnels Of ?h release evasive of categorization. Vocal contributions from London-based ritual artist, Soror Anji Cheung. BURIAL HEX Throne CD
A third volume of the essential reissue series featuring rare and out-of-print vinyl releases from horror electronics maestro, Burial Hex. This collection goes further back in time to a more raw and singular vision, whilst still infused with passionate vocals and eire religious allusions that would eventually lead to a development of increasingly more compositional elements in the Burial Hex cycle. Collecting his sides from the split 7" with Sylvester Anfang on Aurora Borealis (2008), the split 12" with Iron First Of The Sun on Cold Spring (CSR 153LP, 2011), and taking a side each from Bagirwa Hymn on VON Archives (2009) and From The Rites Of Lazarus on Urashima (2010), Throne provides focuses on the death industrial roots of this expansive project. Without as much focus on otherworldly hybrids, yet still organically eclectic, this offering will bring the grinding grey atmospherics and the nauseating aggression of early horror electronics into focus. Artwork by Nathaniel Ritter (Kinit Her).

WSR Chambers LP
On its return to the Sam Kerridge's Contort label, Emanuele Porcinai's WSR project renders a dense, gut-wrenching session combining self-built string instruments and field recordings in a sort of shoegazing noise-techno stress test. Chambers was written over the course of the last three years between Manchester, Florence and Berlin, and pursues the themes of structural decay and melancholic ambience from his Stainless debut (CNTRT 005EP, 2015) into a more coruscating, haunting zone of hypnagogic sound design and textural expression. Porcinai's self-built string instruments, guitar and field recordings are processed and layered with additional cello and double bass by Thomas Griffiths in a seamless movement of eight parts cleft over two sides, giving ample room for the sometime techno artist to thoroughly, systematically draw out and exasperate his instrument's character in a way that recalls Colin Stetson "beasting" his sax as much as some sore-as-fuck JK Flesh recording or his label mates, SØS Gunver Ryberg or Sam Kerridge, for that matter. It feels like music purpose built for the transition of seasons and darker, longer nights where there's nothing to do but get your head stuck right in the jaws of a slab like this. Porcinai has collaborated with Rabit and Shapednoise. Special edition detachable cover; Edition of 500.

MILKSHAKES, THE Talking 'Bout... Milkshakes! / After School Session CD
Damaged Goods present a CD reissue of two classic beat albums by The Milkshakes, Talking 'Bout... Milkshakes! (1981) and After School Session (1983). The Milkshakes were mainly Mickey Hampshire (guitar/Vox), Billy Childish (guitar/Vox), Bruce Brand (drums) and Russ Wilkins (bass). When punk group The Pop Rivets broke up in 1980, Billy Childish joined forces with Mickey Hampshire, who was a Pop Rivets roadie. The two began writing songs together and the group released their first LP, Talking 'Bout... Milkshakes! in 1981. With Childish and Hampshire sharing guitar and vocal duties, Bruce Brand on drums, and Bertie on bass (later replaced by Russ Wilkins then John Agnew), the Milkshakes's sound was a primitive blend of British beat groups, like the early Kinks at their toughest, and hard-rocking American guitar instrumentalists, like Link Wray. This sound came to be known as the "Medway Sound" and the core members have been playing a variation on it throughout their whole careers.

RLW Flurry Of Delusion CD
The starting point for the recordings on Flurry Of Delusion was an improvised recording session with Giuseppe Ielasi, but as with all Ralf Wehowsky works nothing is quite what it seems to be. Cutting out the moments of "glory" and recombining them, Wehowsky, aka RLW, reassembles them into new more detailed compositions. Further improvised sounds were treated and added to the mix. It is neither industrial or musique concrete, nor computer music or improvisation - in fact it could be all of these. Ralf Wehowsky is a well-respected electronic composer who was a founding member of the seminal German group P16.D4 and the label Selektion whose groundbreaking releases influenced many artists working in today's experimental music scene. MELANGE Melange 2LP
Rock and roll's evolution is unavoidably indebted to its past - a past that has been recovered in unlikely ways that ends up something different, in something harmonious and new. Melange belongs to a small group of privileged few that has been able to salvage from the past and convert it into the present. They have leapt forward and transformed the spirit of the future. Melange acknowledges it's debt to folk, Can, British progressive folk, flamenco, medieval music, renaissance, Canterbury sound, Coltrane, Popol Vuh, Moondog, Ali Farka Toure, Morricone and Henry Cow. Echoes of Spanish folk, Canovas, Rodrigo, Adolfo y Guzman, Vainica Doble and the progressive side of Triana can also be found within their musical compositions. Melange is neo folk, street hippy, the sound of estrangement, explorative rock. It is music that walks the line between restraint and limitless energy, between tradition and vanguard, between loyalty to its origins and the destruction of them to create something of their own. Melange is a significant debut, not only due to the quality and importance that they are proposing it is also something evolved. Saturated with discoveries and nuances this is a wise sound that, only with time, will manifest itself. Interpreted by four musicians that know what they want and have set out to find it. They get lost along the way only to emerge with something unexpected in tow. They combine subtle arrangements, the talent to explore, together with the very essence of rock and roll.

Pete Seeger and Big Bill Broonzy, live at Cahn Auditorium, Northwestern University, Evanston, Chicago on October 25th, 1956. American author, historian, actor, broadcaster and Pulitzer Prize winner Louis 'Studs' Terkel was the perfect point of communication between poet and people. The Studs Terkel Program was broadcast each weekday between 1952 and 1997 when he interviewed guests as diverse as Martin Luther King, Leonard Bernstein, Mort Sahl, Bob Dylan, Tennessee Williams and Big Bill Broonzy ("our land's most distinguished singer of 'undressed' blues"). Chicago's WFMT were invited to record Big Bill Broonzy's authentic, high octane blues alongside Pete Seeger's observational folksong for Stud Terkel's weekly "Almanac" broadcast in 1956. Broonzy and Seeger pair up on Lead Belly's "Midnight Special" to close the show with Terkel declaring, "Broonzy and Seeger are of disparate cultures, yet share the big common denominator: they are free in song." Studs Terkel also remarked, "The program was unplanned. We approached the WFMT mike, and let come what did." Echoes presents the entire original WFMT-FM broadcast of Pete Seeger and Big Bill Broonzy together in song at Cahn Auditorium, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1956. CINDYTALK The Labyrinth Of The Straight Line CD
The Labyrinth Of The Straight Line is a compilation of chimerical poetry. Ambiguous haikus of agony, melancholy, obscurity and dissensus are unfolding over time. Walking on the shapeshifting paths of transgression, on the search for new realities since the early 1980s, Cindytalk's latest release pays homage to their industrial roots, comprising brutalist outbursts in abstract sceneries of beauty and abysmality. As surreal and introspective as a film by Jean Cocteau, as labyrinthic and enigmatic as a story of Borges, Cindytalk succeeds in spatializing subjectivity. These introverted detournements follow the logic of dreams and form the unsettling soundtrack of an unresting mind. The outcome can be abrasive and Balearic at times, but also delicate and melancholic. The Labyrinth Of The Straight Line forms an alphabet of dark and obscure detachment. Acid shivers of a body without organs and convulsive pumps of arteries alternate with poignant murmurs of the past that dissolve in tender shades of hushed despair and graceful debris. The listener finds themselves in spaces with walls crumbling down or concaved by glazed mirrors terrorizing the claustrophobic body. From time to time, you can hear a disembodied voice, speaking soft and clear like a narrator from a different reality. Sonic psycho-geography between somnambulist dark ambient, claustrophobic post-industrial and nightmarish techno. Delightful sketches of eschatology. Written and recorded by Cindytalk between 2013-2015 at Roi Vert, Okamoto, Japan and Thirteenth Floor, London, UK. Film clips on "Sea Of Lost Hopes", "Lost Unfound" and "Filthy Sun" from Ghost Dance (1983) directed by Ken McMullen. Design/images by David Coppenhall.

CHILD, ANTHONY Electronic Recordings from Maui Jungle Vol. 2 CD
Anthony Child, AKA Surgeon, presents the second volume of recordings of Buchla Music Easel recorded in the jungle of Maui. Again, Childs is in a more ambient guise and setting, as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. There is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply "occurred" throughout the improvisations. The range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of electronic (Buchla) and acoustic (environmental) interplay. "Nine Personality Type Map" hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seethes in-and-out of the frame whilst "A Nightfall Of Diamonds" provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. The simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. Another gem in a catalog filled with gold. PARKER, JEFF Slight Freedom LP
Slight Freedom, Jeff Parker's first ever solo record, presents the first opportunity to hear the guitarist in fully self-revealed circumstances. Recorded in 2013 and 2014 in the Hollywood Hills as he relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles, Parker combines the dark tonal palette and percussive attack he's known for with real-time processing elements and field recordings, deftly crafting a unique world of solo guitar music - multi-lingual, mysterious, alive with extraordinary sonic events, with a sturdy intelligence in charge and a raw home-style vibe. Jeff Parker is a longtime member of Tortoise. He creates works that explore the contrary relationships between tradition and technology, and improvisation and composition. Slight Freedom is yet another defining moment for Parker in 2016, a year that already includes a brilliant ensemble album (The New Breed) and Tortoise's 25th anniversary tour and record (The Catastrophist). Parker's title composition sets the albums cavernous mood. Terse lines and ricocheting loops morph into a gnarly ambient section that resembles Neil Young droning out over a copy of Discreet Music (1975). Parker creates a different sort of ambient space in his take on Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids", bending the melody around a bossa nova rhythm into a Moodsville tone poem. Parker makes an extraordinary long-form statement out of Chad Taylor's "Mainz", a piece he first recorded with Taylor and bassist Chris Lopes on the album Bright Light In Winter (2011). Twice the length of the trio recording, the multi-layered soliloquy finds Parker leaping from the high rung to damn near orchestral heights, pushing his techniques and concepts to their breaking points. It's one of the great solo performances you'll hear from a musician this year. To say "Lush Life" comes with formidable baggage is an understatement. Parker achieves instant classic status with a rendition that sounds beamed-in from a decommissioned satellite - burned out, covered in space grit, yet still formally nuanced and beautifully reflective of Strayhorn's world-weary lyrics. Mastered by Helge Sten at Audio Virus. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl by RTI; Presented in a heavyweight Stoughton "laserdisc" sleeve, printed by Stoughton; Silkscreened by Alan Sherry of Siwa, who also silkscreened the labels and the inner sleeves; Edition of 850.

MAURO, JOSE Obnoxius CD
Far Out Recordings present a reissue of Jose Mauro's forgotten masterpiece Obnoxius, recorded in 1970 for Quartin. Over the course of the '60s, Roberto Quartin released more than 20 albums in Brazil on his label Forma, by artists including the likes of Eumir Deodato and Quateto Em Cy. Selling the rights of Forma to Polygram in 1969, Quartin struck out for pastures new at the dawn of the 1970s with the launch of his self-titled label. Significant works and high-water marks for Brazilian music overall followed in that decade's first year, including Obnoxius. Jose Mauro is an increasingly rare phenomenon. Mauro is said to have died in a car accident shortly before the release of Obnoxious, a fact that could have lent his brief musical career a touch of mythology were it not for how scant the details concerning any other aspects of his life are. Production on the record was cancelled after Mauro's death and it was never sold commercially until it was rereleased decades later. The title track is a wholly singular piece of music, blending string-drenched melancholia with orchestral pomp, sunny psychedelic strumming with propulsive percussion, topped off with Mauro's yearning vocals. The result is indicative of Mauro's unique blend of sounds from Latin jazz and samba to psychedelic folk and baroque orchestration. Today, Obnoxious retains its strange, otherworldly appeal - a firm favorite among a small circle of deep diggers including Madlib, Gilles Peterson, Floating Points and DJ Nuts. Jose Mauro's mournful and melancholic vocals create a dark, brooding atmosphere that stands in contrast to the usual joyfulness and high-spirited rhythm of the more prominent Brazilian music of the era. Despite this air of foreboding, Mauro's confident baritones, chord patterns and sumptuous arrangements have the ability to induce in the listener in an almost trance-like state of ecstasy. Obnoxius is Mauro's long hidden masterpiece, a complex and uniquely stunning work. All tracks on the record were composed by Mauro and Ana Maria Bahiana. Personnel: Maurilio - trumpet; Paulo Moura - alto sax; Altamiro Carrilho - flute; Rildo Hora - harmonica; Salvador - organ, piano, harpsichord; Geraldo Vespar - guitar; Jose Mauro - violao; Sebastiao Marinho - bass; Juqinha and Mamao - percussion; Wilson das Neves - drums; Roberto Quartin - string formation.

MORENO, JOYCE Cool CD
Throughout her 50 year career as one of Brazil's most brilliantly imaginative artists, Joyce Moreno has thrived artistically in consistently undertakes new challenges. In the '70s, she provoked controversy for singing in first-person feminine voice (never before attempted by any of the very few female songwriters in Brazil at the time) and her lyrics defied the censorship attempts of the Brazilian military dictatorship. After something of an epiphany, with Cool, Joyce has finally agreed to take on a challenge repeatedly asked of her for the last two decades. Moreno explains: "For over 20 years I've been requested to make an album with North American jazz standards. Nothing against it, but I always said no. I had the strange feeling that such an album would look weird in my discography, too commercial - like I didn't have any new tricks up my sleeve, and yes, I always have plenty. Music has never ceased to bless me with new ideas and new tunes. So why on Earth should I embark on such a trip? The answer came to me during a sound check when I started playing, just for fun, a Cole Porter song in a different way. The song was 'Love For Sale' - a song about a demimondaine, a hooker, in short. But then this afoxê groove came up, and, all of a sudden, Cole Porter's call girl became a hooker from Bahia. And I thought, 'man, these tunes can be rearranged and be really fun!' To play these tunes with my guitar, re-harmonize them, find their possible different grooves, and make them mine. Not just turn them into 'Brazilian bossas'... There is also one original tune only here: my jazzy samba 'Mingus, Miles & Coltrane', a tribute to three of my personal jazz heroes, who inspired me a lot since I was a kid. Coltrane is also remembered here in my arrangement for 'My Favorite Things', inspired by his classic recording, but mixed with an improvised Jobim quote in the end." In typical Joycean style, Cool emits immense musical dexterity coupled with a powerfully human essence to her sound, bringing an entirely original spirit to these canonical standards.

FRANK HURRICANE Mountain Brew Light LP
"Frank Hurricane is a steward of benevolent mischief, and there is no slowing his holy roll. He has inhaled deeply from a wide swath of this country's bizarre atmospheres, and when he exhales, one gets the distinct impression that he might actually be making some sort of sense out of an entire host of experiences that might otherwise simply confuse and confound. Frank has yanked terms such as 'spiritual' or 'haunted' down from their ridiculous alters and placed them into tactile, more nuanced tonal motifs. The words don't take on new meanings, per se, but they do exhibit new shades, new hints of character. And character is something sorely lacking in these rotten times. Frank Hurricane gives such terms breath, and through that breath they live anew. That's what literature is, I think. There's a propulsive thrust here, a bottom end, a deep bass bed, and above it everything else does soar and fly. Frank's legitimately unique storytelling abilities are allowed to swim to their own peculiar rhythms. It's trite to say that any artist (let alone musician) 'marches to the beat of their own drum', but in this case the phrase becomes not only accurate, but necessary. All told, this is some sort of distillation of a vision. You distill some things, and you end up with bullshit - dogma, restrictive formal constraints, hate. You distill things another way and you end up with holy whiskey. Or love. No matter your poison - yeti, racquetball, tennis, pool, whatever - all are welcome at the Hurricane's table." --Matt Krefting, 2016.

REGAL From Other Sounds 12"
Regal, one of Madrid's hottest techno-exports, presents an EP comprising both new works and a re-interpretation by Radio Slave. The original and remix rub shoulders on the A-side, both revolving around its enticing vocal hook. While Regal employs a skipping beat and skittish percussion to conjure up an air of mystery, Radio Slave uncovers the track's slumbering lunatic qualities. On the B side, Regal operates in a framework that is a tad more housey than usual: snappy snares slice up the bubbling acid-line. "Slab" barges right in, wielding hefty drums and a bassline that oozes groove out of every loop.

MANDRAKE MEMORIAL, THE 3 Part Inventions CD
Having made two superb psychedelic albums and gigged with The Doors, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground and many others, in June of 1969, The Mandrake Memorial came to London. The plan was to record with famed producer Shel Talmy (The Kinks, The Who, Pentangle), but when that fell through, they persevered alone. Long thought to be lost, 3 Part Inventions anticipates the woozy, dream-like vibe of their 1970 masterpiece Puzzle, combining eerie vocals, trippy guitar and otherworldly electronics to create a unique whole. Transferred directly from the master tape, it's released here for the first time, together with a detailed band history, rare images, two previously unheard outtakes from a 1969 acetate, and a rare radio interview.

SPIRIT Live At The Ash Grove, 1967 Volume 1 CD
Flashback present a live recording from Spirit, titled Live At The Ash Grove, 1967 Volume 1. Lead vocalist Jay Ferguson talks about the recording: "The Ash Grove was a legendary venue for folk and early Los Angeles rock, and really the birthplace of Spirit. We brought in a younger, less inhibited crowd, a mixture of hippies and jazz freaks. Spirit, at its inception, was more of an improvisational jazz/blues group than anything else. Our first shows had very few structured songs, lots of free-form going on. We were constantly writing, trying out, and discarding songs. Getting to play in a major LA club, building a following, trying out new ideas, and forging what the group would become. It was a magical time for us."

GORDON & DAVID VAN TIEGHEM, PETER Winter Summer 12"
Recently unearthed Peter Gordon & David Van Tieghem collaboration from 1978, featuring vocals from special guest Kathy Acker, author of post-modern classic Blood And Guts In High School (1984). Gordon and Van Tieghem play all of the instruments and electronics, overdubbing on a 1" 8-track recorder. The result is intimate and vulnerable, yet ice cold and edgy. "Winter" is a cold-wave, proto-techno track. "Summer" is a lyrical and romantic instrumental. With Van Tieghem's drumming laying down the bedrock, the acoustic piano and vari-speeded marimba take turns drifting in-and-out of the foreground. On "Nocturnal Emission", friend Jon Marius Brogaard Aeppli's guitar solo is voguing out on the floor - psychedelic rock meets psychotic blues by way of sheer UK sound. The title piece reverses out of garage/classic house, nodding to '90s r'n'b. "They Don't Know" puts on a bit of electro, noise and some giallo synth arpeggios. ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO Fungus Cerebri: Selected Tracks From Cassettes 1981-1989 2LP
Fungus Cerebri: Selected Tracks From Cassettes 1981-1989 includes a selection of tracks by Esplendor Geométrico, originally released on cassette and recorded between 1981-1989. They have been remastered from the original tapes for this edition. The 16 tracks are taken from Sinn & Form cassette compilation (Daterverarbeitungm, 1982), En Directo Madrid Y Tolosa (EGK, 1987), Esplendor Geométrico En Roma (EGK, 1986), Madrid Mayo 89 (Línea Alternativa, 1990), and Diez Años De Esplendor (Línea Alternativa, 1991). The '80s are a period particularly appreciated by the followers of this cult band, pioneers of the more rhythmic strain of industrial music. Minimalism, raw and harsh analog electronica, distortion, Arabic sounds, shortwave radio recordings are all typical elements of their style during this first period of Esplendor Geométrico, when they achieved a sound ahead of its time and is still imitated nowadays. Esplendor Geométrico were always very present within the '80s international scene of underground cassette labels. This double LP is the first one of a series dedicated to this movement in Spain, still fairly unknown despite its activity at the time, with dozens of labels operating from different cities. Artwork by Juan Carlos Sastre, founding member of Esplendor Geométrico. Track selection by Andrés Noarbe, the band's manager since their beginnings in 1980 and director of Geometrik Records. Comes as a double LP in gatefold sleeve; Edition of 700.

WALKABOUTS, THE Feel Like Going Home: Cover Albums 6LP+4CD BOX
Besides being probably one of the best and most underestimated indie-rock bands from the United States, Seattle's The Walkabouts always delivered remarkable and outstanding covers. In 1993, they released Satisfied Mind the first cover album in the band's history and truly an alternative country masterpiece. 20 years after the release, MOJO elected it as one of the "Best 5 Americana Albums of All Time". In 2001, the highly anticipated Train Leaves At Eight was released - the counterpart to Satisfied Mind - covering only European music from Norway to Greece. Satisfied Mind was released as a single LP in 1993, maybe not the best decision for sound reasons, whereas Train Leaves At Eight was never released on vinyl. Both albums are now available for the first time ever remastered and on double vinyl. As a bonus and a special gift to the fans, this box includes a third double LP, the live album Gone To Hell, Back By Eight. This album includes two recordings of two concerts from the time of creation of both Satisfied Mind and Train Leaves At Eight. Remastered from the original tapes by Grammy nominee Hans-Jörg Maucksch (Pauler Acoustics Studio). The Walkabouts's Feel Like Going Home: Cover Albums comes as a deluxe box set with three double LPs (180 gram vinyl) plus four CDs.

CALM'N'CHAOS Unextraterrestrial CD
Calm'n'Chaos is Christian Cutuli's electronic project. Cutuli is a widely respected Italian producer, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. Unextraterrestrial was produced and written entirely by Cutuli and mixed along with the legendary Grammy nominated producer, Tim Palmer (David Bowie, U2, Tears For Fears, The Cure, Pearl Jam, Robert Plant, Nightwish and many others). Calm'n'Chaos blends Cutuli's great taste and technical skills with cinematic atmospheres, rock, wave and world music, and influences that range from Depeche Mode's synth pop to Recoil's electronic experimentation, from old school EBM to Antony And The Johnsons's innovations. In parallel with his activity as a film composer, Christian has produced several projects, always in the name of creating a melting pot of melody and sound research. He has collaborated with important artists from the wave/electronic and world music scene. Many collaborators are featured on Unextraterrestrial: The composer and singer Ké (the author of the 1995 global hit single "Strange World"), the British producer Ian Little (Duran Duran, Talk Talk, Roxy Music), the international hit-maker and pop producer Alexander Bard (Army Of Lovers, Vacuum, Alcazar, Gravitonas), DJ Ritu (a well-known BBC Radio host) and others.

MOKADELIC Chronicles 2CD
Goodfellas present Mokadelic's new album, Chronicles. Mokadelic is considered the best Italian psychedelic-post-rock collective, a powerful band influenced by both the great Italian soundtrack composers of the '60s and '70s, and by bands such as Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions In The Sky. After years of experience in the field of film music, including collaborations with directors such as Gabriele Salvatores and Stefano Sollima, Mokadelic became world famous thanks to their original soundtrack to the Italian TV series, Gomorrah (GDM 2101CD/LP, GDM 6650LP, 2016). That soundtrack was an emotionally intense musical narrative, including both spacious, melancholic atmospheres and extremely dense climaxes, all inspired by the haunting realism of the TV series. Chronicles appears to be their first stand-alone album since 2006; the first piece of work with no connections to film soundtracks or other special projects. A highly dense double set of music including a first volume (tracks 1-8) of post-rock oriented soundscapes, strategically followed by a heavy, electronics inspired second chapter (tracks 9-16). "Sleep One Eyed" features Nicolò Fabi.

MARCANO & LIGHTDREAMS, PAUL 10,001 Dreams 2LP
Double LP version. A thematic sequel of sorts to the sci-fi psych odyssey exploring cosmic ideology that was the British Columbians 1981 debut, LightDreams's Islands in Space (GKL 005CD/LP 2015), 10,001 Dreams from 1982 finds its leader, Paul Marcano, edging closer lyrically to the utopian outer space colonization he'd previously conjured while under the sway of physicist/space activist/author Gerard K. O'Neill. The ever-present percussive acoustic layers from Islands in Space remain, while the new age-like keyboard washes are nearly totally supplanted by mellow, wickedly fuzzed, floating layers of dreamy, treated, atmospheric electric guitar. As scribe Jack D. Fleischer says, at the time of the recording the group had reached, "a certain kind of psychedelic revelation that had become completely frontal," and that is emphasized by this increased use of soaring electric coloring. Originally issued solely on cassette, Marcano and LightDreams's home-recorded (yet hi-fi) lysergic creations give nod to the original British psychedelic and progressive eras, while maintaining a firm foot in hook-based, melodic folk'n'pop and are a guaranteed treasure for those searching for unheard and otherworldly joys. First time reissue with remastered sound. In-depth liner notes from collector Jack D. Fleischer and rare photos. Includes download coupon of the 90-minute unexpurgated 1982 cassette release. RIYL: Dreamies, Simones, late '60s Donovan, Robert Lester Folsom's more psych-leaning moments, McDonald & Giles, Rick Saucedo, Bobb Trimble, Tyrannosaurus Rex. "10,001 Dreams is a perfect distillation of Paul Marcano's musical essence: thoughtful, psychedelic, pop-oriented music but with a deeply progressive ear for song structure and the intuitive glow of a well-crafted lyrical refrain." -- Jack D. Fleischer, from the liner notes of 10,001 Dreams.

LOWEST FORM, THE Personal Space LP
"The second album from UK hardcore engine The Lowest Form, Personal Space sees the band cutting through a comedown fug of feedback, sharp butterfly-knife guitars flashing deadly over a waste-ground rubble of noise. Songs drawn up from discord, songs of marshalled cacophony, coils of scratching guitars break apart and reform, coalescing around insistent basslines and heavy drum-beats, before splintering again. It's hardcore constructed from textured noise as much as from break-downs and riffs, rumbling infectious chants emerging from the wavering clamour, the vile keening of consciousness's half-known edges, noise in the grain of it all, noise as bedrock, an abrasive acid bath of fuzz, susurration and machine-whirr. The Lowest Form have brought together another LP of murdered-out panic attack punk, lithe and unleashed, born of bad vibes and background radiation, an album at once uncomfortably close and fully heavy." --Joe Briggs.

FREEKS, THE Shattered CD
Everything has a beginning, whether it by accident or by design. A journey consists of trials and errors until finally reaching a full circle - ever evolving, revolving over and over again. Set in constant motion, the gathering of speed reaching ultimate vibrations until it's all shattered! This can also be said in regards to Los Angeles, California based quintet The Freeks as they return from yet another complete orbit with their third full length album, Shattered. What started as an accident, brought on a thought, which then began a project that grew into a solidified unit of sonic purification. The Freeks, led by Ruben Romano, have consistently moved upward since their conception in 2007 and have gracefully matured since their first self-titled album in 2008 on Cargo Records. While the initial project collaborated with players from around world, in 2010, Romano gathered together a more local unit of musicians, all baked under the LA heat, to achieve a consistent flow of creation. This was followed by The Freeks critically acclaimed 2013 sophomore album Full On, released on the band's very own label Freek Flag Records. Now in 2016, The Freeks prepare to sling shot and extend the trajectory of their already existing orbital path by joining forces with Heavy Psych Sounds to release this latest revolution. The Freeks are fully ready to shake it until it's all shattered. Since The Freeks issued their aptly-titled sophomore full-length Full On, their reputation as a vibrant live act has only grown. Shattered is a mix of the old Nebula style, mixing heavy fuzz riffs of desert rock n roll with a fresh breath of a new wave, adding synthesizers, keyboards and more arrangements. Features ex-members of Fu Manchu and Nebula.

With 2016 being their busiest release schedule so far, they've moved up from a 12" and 10" pack to a double 12" pack, with seven artists re-rubbing each other's originals in their most personal way imaginable. Nachtbraker turns Nebraska's sweet and moody "It Won't Be Long" into a raw as hell acid stomper. Ouer and Adesse Versions, deliver a great jackin' take on both their victims and Nebraska adds some disco flavor to Frits Wentink's free handing piano work. Frits, on his turn, gets going with the SP404 to add some dusty vibes to Detroit Swindle's "Future Imperfect" while Detroit Swindle have turned Obas Nenor's down-tempo excursion "Wakee" into an up-tempo Chicago-esque affair, bringing in Crumar Performer for some lively work on the strings. Obas on his turn, gets his MPC fired up and delivers a great mid-west inspired version of "Push It Along". Heist Recordings have had a truly great year and this Round Up is a great conclusion to it. S U R V I V E ' s debut full-length marks the culmination of countless sessions recording and crafting a remarkable balance of songwriting and experimentation. Originally released in 2012 on Berlin-based Mannequin Records, S U R V I V E ' s premiere is a fusion of reserved minimalism and lucid hooks. Underlined by the band's uncompromising standards in sound design, this album maintains a damaged quality that is nuanced and cohesive across all nine emotive tracks. Ambient pieces such as 'To Light Alone I Bow' and 'Deserted Skies' are beautiful hybrids of harmony and tension that represent the record as a multifaceted work of both mood and melody. In contrast, the cold and brutally propulsive pair of singles 'Hourglass' and 'Omniverse' are strikingly addictive, making their way onto the soundtrack of the 2014 feature horror film The Guest, directed by Adam Wingard."

The music was written very early on in the film's two-and-a-half year development, and subsequently held a strong sway over the rhythm of the film's editing and visual narration - which takes place as a series of black and white images made from photocopying various travel documents, which were later photographed onto 35mm reversal film in a darkroom, and overlaid with text by poet Harry Salmenniemi. As Vainio tends to use a set-up of a homebuilt kit, unchanged from his very earliest productions, each new release is effectively a subtle alteration/refinement of his brutalist but tactile process of creation. And, going by that timeline of events, we'd speculate that Mannerlaatta was conceived somewhere in the wake of his staggering Kilo (PTYT 076CD/LP, 2013) and the much sweeter Konstellaatio side as Ø, which is roughly where its aesthetics also lie. The 50 minute score breaks down to six sections, each exploring the full frequency spectrum of his patented, greyscale tonal palette, largely swerving a fixed rhythmic meter to occupy a weightless, out-of-reach mid-ground that seduces us headlong into his chasmic designs and best suits the black and white film imagery. Key to the recording's appeal - as with most Vainio gear - is that peripheral sense of spatial dynamic and his unpredictable manipulation of amplitude; whether dangling the listener over abyssal sub-bass dimensions, needling with icy prongs, or occasionally alleviating the tension with teasing pads which evaporate back into the æther as though they were never there, ultimately leaving the listener at rapt and at his mercy for the duration. Mastered by Denis Blackham; Cover design by Nullvoid.

NEW DAWN, THE There's A New Dawn LP
2016 splatter-color vinyl repress. "Initially released in July of 1970, five hundred copies were pressed. Subsequently, auctions on Ebay for an original vinyl LP go for $2000. The New Dawn's There's A New Dawn has been hailed as one of the rarest and best psych albums to come out of the late '60s/early '70s. Fuzz guitar, minor-chord organ dirges, tender vocals and monumental bass are the calling cards of this private press gem. Maybe it's all the rain, but like their Northwest counterparts, The New Tweedy Brothers and The Sonics, The New Dawn helped to establish a regional musical perspective that is hauntingly addictive. After being highly sought after by collectors, we are proud to release this definitive reissue, produced in close collaboration with Dan Bazzy, singer, songwriter, and founder of The New Dawn. Also included are three previously unreleased 1971 demos and a live track from a 2008 band reunion. Limited edition color vinyl of 500 with MP3 download. Includes band history and historic photos. Complete original track listing plus four bonus tracks. Hailed as a 'Masterpiece of Music' by Hans Pokora author of the book series, Record Collector Dreams."

ZUKIE, TAPPER Escape From Hell CD
Jamaican Recordings reissue Tapper Zukie's legendary Escape From Hell album, originally released in 1977 as a dub follow up to Tapper's exceptional 1976 release, In Dub (JRCD 044CD/JRLP 044LP). The In Dub album was cut using the great talents of engineer Philip Smart, but when the tracks were pulled together for its follow up Escape To Hell, Philip Smart had left Jamaica for New York and his replacement at the controls was Prince Jammy, who had just returned from Canada at the request of King Tubby himself. The purpose was to fill Mr. Smart's position. Tapper was definitely in good hands and at the time he could tell that Prince Jammy was soon to become King Jammy due to his outstanding studio work. The Escape From Hell set was initially overlooked more to the fact of the small numbers of its original pressing. The album makes great use of Tapper's extraordinary Channel One rhythms cut with Sly and Robbie's The Revolutionaries. Great rhythms matched the magic from King Tubby's studio at the hands of Prince Jammy. The CD version includes alternative dubs and tracks that seem to compliment this set.

PREVOST, GREG 'STACKHOUSE' Universal Vagrant LP
LP version. After a career lasting close to four decades, Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost decided to launch his first solo record, the celebrated Mississippi Murderer in 2012 (MD 001CD, MD 001LP). On Mississippi Murderer, Delta blues and hi-energy R&R were combined in a masterful mix, heavily influenced by the likes of the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, and New York Dolls. This recording has become a cult classic, but the ever adventurous Prevost is now back with a brand new artifact, Universal Vagrant. This second album goes one step further than Mississippi Murderer and can be safely described as the best recording in his long and illustrious career. It also confirms what those in the know already knew: Prevost is a top-notch songwriter, one of the coolest R&R singers ever, and that he has a deep understanding of the roots of his music - Be it with the original blues greats ("Moanin' The Blues", "Mean Red Spider"); the personal idols inscribed in his DNA, Keith Richards, and Johnny Thunders ("Gin Soaked Time Warp", "Shot Of Rock & Roll", or the superb, gospel-oriented "Lord Shine A Light On Me"), as well as the dark, dangerous Stooges-infused sounds ("Evil On My Mind" or his killer version of "Codine"). Universal Vagrant is a perfect production, an explosive sound, a recording cooked with ease and among friends, but with edge, attitude, and sheer class. This is a first rate R&R album where all pieces fit neatly. No mean feat.

AK MUSICK AK Musick CD
Mental Experience present first ever reissue of AK Musick, originally released in 1972. Radical, freaked-out sound with hints of free-jazz, improv and avant-garde, AK Musick was an improv collective assembled by clarinetist Hans Kumpf to "make music in a very democratic way". The five players had a classical education but they were also influenced by avant-garde composers like Helmut Lachenmann and Johannes Fritsch. Their only album, AK Musick, was recorded at the famous Bauer Studios in just three hours and engineered by Martin Wieland, who had previously worked with Keith Jarrett for the ECM label. A wide arrangement of instruments were used: clarinet, cello, oboe, organ, piano, darbuka, tam-tam, ektare, flute, zither. Includes the amazing "Impro-Vision" which sounds like electronic music, but using only natural instruments. AK Musick saw the light in 1972 on Kumpf's own AKM Records label. It was a private homemade edition of 150 copies, with spray-printed covers. During the '70s, AKM Records was also home to other free-jazz rarities like Free Blacks by Perry Robinson/Hans Kumpf (1976), where Hans also collaborated with his friend Wolfgang Dauner, and In Time by Theo Jörgensmann (1977). Reissue under license from Hans Kumpf. Remastered sound; Insert with liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby) plus rare photos and memorabilia. LP edition includes download code. KLEENEX/LILIPUT First Songs 2LP
"Legendary Swiss punk band from the late '70s. 'You can't dispute Liliput's status as pioneers of feminist art-punk. Along with fellow travelers like The Slits and The Raincoats, this (mostly) female Swiss group took advantage of punk's anything-goes attitude and created jittery, spirited pop that was both in step with the times and completely singular. The early material is a riot of exuberant energy, taking stylistic cues from peers like Gang Of Four and Wire -- propulsive bass, skittering pop rhythms, slashing guitars -- and adding distinctive overlapping vocal patterns, which are sung, shrieked, and hiccuped in three languages and made-up dada slang. More than 20 years on, it still sounds fresh.' --Lisa Gidley. All material has been previously released as Liliput on Kill Rock Stars as a double CD, and a 4 LP box set on Mississippi Records, 1977 1983.First Songs combines all the pre-1982 material. DEMDIKE STARE Wonderland 3CD
A project that came to life fueled by collector's obsession and a life-long willingness to dive head-first into unknown musical wormholes, Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty have never been defined by a singular musical trajectory. Their opening salvo of releases dabbled with the aesthetic of the occult and provided an alternate, parallax view of the Italian Library records with which they were both obsessed at the time, but as their long running mixtape series and brilliantly curated DDS label attest, their interests extend far outside the crevices of early electronic music and into dance music, dancehall, roots, jungle, techno, industrial, noise and beyond. While 2013's Testpressing series provided an outlet for mostly club-based productions shot from the hip, Wonderland, their first album since 2012's Elemental, has been constructed with a narrative in mind. From the clipped hard-style of the opening "Curzon", through the jaunty dancehall mutations of "Animal Style" and "FullEdge", exotica/house refractions on "Hardnoise", the frankly ridiculous, bass-bin destroying jungle ructions on "Sourcer", or the extended tease of "Overstaying", it's probably the most enjoyable and loose-limbed hour of music in their catalog, or that you'll likely hear in these weird, angst-ridden times. Mastered and cut by Matt Colton. CD version comes in a deluxe six-panel digifile; the first edition includes Wonderland plus two extra discs containing all of the Testpressings, on digital formats for the first time.

ETANT DONNES Re-Up CD
Munster Records present a reissue of Étant Donnés's Re-Up, originally released in 1999. For Re-Up, France's Étant Donnés (Eric & Marc Hurtado) brought in Alan Vega, Lydia Lunch and Genesis P-Orridge to provide lyrics and vocals for specific contributions. Vega, featured on the first four tracks, juxtaposes his stream-of-conscious vocals with the phasing pulses and analog crackles and sighs on "Shadows Lights", responding to the rhythmic ticking and splintering synth on the title cut, helping on a track he originally wrote with Martin Rev to cover Suicide's "Ghost Rider" with an eerie Elvis Presley vamp, along with the epic "Brutal Piss Rods". Lydia Lunch follows on "Sexodrone", a lengthy piece where treated trumpet from Mark Cunningham duels with Lunch's breaths and icy cold delivery. Genesis P-Orridge brings along a different feel with a steady spoken word work on the three final tracks: the metallic gongs, bells and revolving synth washes of "At Last", the companion piece "Angel With Iron Wings" and "Secret Tear". The latter track also features Bachir Attar, leader of The Master Musicians Of Jajouka, playing the ghaita; P-Orridge and Attar conclude the voyage with a vigorous call-and-response between P-Orridge's instrument of flesh (voice) and Attar's human-made one. A perfect soundtrack for sensual explorers. The last bonus track is a 2014 remix of "Ghost Rider" by Marc Hurtado that gives the feeling of being transported into the center of an intergalactic war. Packaged in new artwork.

MAHNKOPF, CLAUS-STEFFEN Hommage a Daniel Libeskind CD
Deeply impressed by the architecture of the Jewish museum in Berlin, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf started to compose his cycle Hommage à Daniel Libeskind in 2001. "As in each of my numerous tribute pieces, my aim was to find a point of intersection between the art of the dedicatee and my music. At the surface level, it is the deconstructive disposition: with Libeskind in an aesthetic of fragmentation, and with me in the 63-part form. Poetically speaking, it lies in the equivalent to the cool expressivity of Libeskind's ingenious edifice." Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, born in 1962 in Mannheim (Germany), studies in composition, music theory, piano, musicology, philosophy, and sociology with Brian Ferneyhough, Klaus Huber and Jürgen Habermas among others, obtaining a music degree and PhD. Since 1984, he has recieved international prizes and awards, including the Gaudeamus Prize, Stuttgart Composition Prize, Ernst von Siemens Music Grant, Villa Massimo. Since 2005, he has been the Professor of Composition at the Leipzig Academy of Music and Theater, Editor of the journal Musik & Ästhetik and the book series New Music And Aesthetics In The 21st Century, author of over 150 essays and numerous books (e.g. Kritische Theorie Der Musik (2006), Von Der Messianischen Freiheit (2016)). HOWARD, JOHN Across The Door Sill CD
When John Howard's 1975 album Kid In A Big World was reissued to wide acclaim in 2003, it marked his return to writing and recording after twenty years of silence. Recorded over a twelve-month period, Across The Door Sill features many layered pianos and vocals. Whereas John Howard & The Night Mail (TR 317CD/LP, 2015) was a "band album", Door Sill is very much a solo work. With five brand new songs investigating the process of dreams and how one can imagine crossing previously unseen thresholds; embarking on new adventures and challenges, through differing timelines, the album was inspired by 13th century poet Rumi's quatrains. One can hear the influence of John's own songwriter heroes - Laura Nyro and Roy Harper in particular - with its long-form, languidly organic compositions and eschewal of the usual verse/chorus/middle-eight song structure. "An album that will take a few listens, I think," says John.

BRACKETT, ALAN LEE Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968 LP
Out-Sider present Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968, previously unreleased recordings by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy's main-man, Alan Lee Brackett. Mostly written and recorded in 1967, when PBC were at their fame peak, Alan explores a number of different styles, encompassing fuzzed-out garage numbers, sunshine pop, folk rock and full blown psychedelia. Including ahead of its time garage-psychedelic, DIY homemade recordings on which Alan plays all instruments by himself plus pro-sounding studio cuts. Although best known as a member of The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Alan Brackett enjoyed a long career in the music business that book-ended his time with that legendary group. A multi-talented musician so adept at playing numerous musical instruments, he was a veritable one man band, and a skilled songwriter who penned many of the PBC's best loved songs. Alan's musical pedigree is second to none. From his early days on the folk circuit through his time with one of the West Coast's premier psychedelic groups and on to his solo career in the seventies, he crafted a body of work that many musicians would envy. Most of the tracks included here were recorded by Alan between 1967 and 68 at his home studio, using a Teac A1200 tape deck. His employed an innovative DIY approach: he used improvised drum kits made up from household objects and manipulated amps and guitars to create feedback and distortion effects. The remaining tracks from this collection were laid down during sessions at a pro studio, Hollywood Sound, although such is the quality of Alan's home recordings you would be hard pressed to single out which ones were made in more professional surroundings. There are surprising guests such as Glen Campbell, who plays tasty lead guitar on "Freeways Of Love". Alan also collaborates with his friend Knox Henderson (songwriter of some of the hits for Mouse & The Traps) on a couple of tracks included here. Songs like "Shell Of A Man", or "Blowin' My Mind Over You" could've been easily included on any of the Peanut Butter Conspiracy albums, while others like "Summertime Changes" or "Love's Only Sleeping" are amazing examples of homemade, DIY psych-fuzz. Master tape sound; Insert with detailed liner notes by Gary Newell (Shindig!, Ugly Things), track-by-track comments by Alan Lee Brackett and rare photos.

ANAL MAGIC AND REV. DWIGHT FRIZZELL Beyond The Black Crack LP
Paradigm Discs present a 40th anniversary vinyl reissue of Anal Magic And Rev. Dwight Frizzell's Beyond The Black Crack. It was originally released in mono, in an edition of 200 by Cavern Custom in 1976. Beyond the Black Crack was the concept of Reverend Dwight Frizzell, a musician, film maker, doctor of metaphysics and minister in the Universal Church of Life. Mentioned on the pivotal Nurse With Wound list, it remains a little known classic and one of the most unique listening experiences in modern experimental music. Recorded between 1974 and 1976 in locations as diverse as factories, the pyramid opposite Harry Truman's grave site, as well as more "conventional" concert settings. Beyond The Black Crack is a dark, dizzying and exhilarating journey through free jazz, electronics and environmental sound, all shattered by Frizzell's radical tape editing. This reissue has been remastered from the tapes. Includes a four-page booklet with photos from the time; Pressed at Optimal in an edition of 500 (numbered).

BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE Black Earth 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Pias present a reissue of Black Earth by the German doom jazz cult band, Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, originally released in 2002. Black Earth is a masterpiece and the perfect soundtrack for an imaginary movie experiencing the nights in a dangerous city. For fans of SunnO, OM, Max Richter, Fennesz."The substance we are seeking here lies beyond the bare bones of fact, the when and the where (founded in 1988, Mülheim an der Ruhr) or personnel and instruments. Mysteries may very well lurk here or there along the way. What keeps the final two founder members going after all this time? Do Morten Gass and Robin Rodenberg have skeletons locked in their closets? How dearly we would we love to know the answer to that one, alas the most beautiful puzzles tend to remain unsolved. Including their debut Gore Motel (1994), Bohren & Der Club Of Gore have amassed an impressive eight long players... Strange as it may seem, there is a uniform consistency to their reception. Whatever the band does, critiques are unfailingly positive, yet repetitious. Consider the arrival of Christoph Clöser in 1997, by way of illustration. When he joined the group, his saxophone replaced the departing Reiner Henseleit's guitar as one of the defining instruments in the band. This was arguably the sharpest break in their sound to this day and a significant marker in terms of the band's reverence for Dutch instrumentalists Gore (the clue is in the name), whose repetitive riffs paved the way for how the guitar would be deployed in a post-everything future... Similarly conspicuous by their absence in the Bohren chronicles are the numerous instruments which they added to the mix. The introduction of choirs at least had a clear visual impact. Since Thorsten Benning left at the end of 2015, the band has continued as a trio, sharing shifts on the drums. A decrease in personnel was conversely accompanied by quantum leaps forward in the group's musical development - or more precisely, minor adjustments triggered major effects. The music of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore opens up remarkable rooms of association, from a warm burrow to a pristine secret lodge, from a dusky woodland tavern to a smoky quayside dive... These sinister crackling songs are invitations to secrete oneself in darkness." --Lars Brinkman.

DEXTER, JAMES Voices EP 12"
With his first release on the Poker Flat Wax series, James Dexter drops three new mission statements from the underground, each unified by a slick production sensibility and irresistible feel for groove. "Voices" is a deep bomb - a shuffling, kinetic rhythm with oceans of space for subtle melodic elements and textures. The deep pads and detuned kick drum of "Point Blank" references Detroit's classic house sound, the raw drums and vocal snippets adding a truly basement vibe. "Area 51" is another atmospheric late-night jam, with a bumping rhythm track and subtle pad washes.

NOYES, ROB The Feudal Spirit LP
"Rob Noyes has been on the Eastern Massachusetts scene for a while, but what we've heard him play is music from within the context of electric bands, most of whom are loud as hell and exist somewhere along the rim of the post-core continuum. More recently, Rob has taken to displaying his solo acoustic guitar chops and they are massive. The Feudal Spirit is the first vinyl evidence of their 'shoulders.' Like Western Mass's Tony Pasquarosa, who mines the same widely-variant style-pits, Rob's approach to acoustic playing resembles his electric work only through shared-belief-in-a-strong-downstroke. On the way to developing his own compositional/performance approach, Noyes sometimes seems to have absorbed an almost infinite reservoir of influences. Apart from some superb Basho-like 12-string tunneling, most momentary fragments tend to recall legendary Limeys like John Renbourn (and through him, Davey Graham), because Rob's overt melodic structures tend towards the non-bluesoid. But then you'll maybe hear a note-sequence spiced like something dropped from the hot strings of Michael Chapman or even a powerful throng that makes you think of Wizz Jones. When that happens, you realize there's more of a blues base to some of the songs than you'd been able to untangle. Mr. Noyes hits a vast array of sub-genres on this album, and he hits them all pretty damn hard. Rob's playing carries the weight of many possibly-imaginary forebears, but the way he smears them all together shows a holistic mastery of touch and imagination that defies a lot of today's players, who tend to shine in short bursts, then allow their dreams to outrun their technique. Rob Noyes has no such apparent limitations. Like Raymond Pettibon, whose artwork graces The Feudal Spirit's cover, Rob's able to create a true form-gobble, making some real beautiful noise in the process. Around the world, licensed Hodologists whisper, 'Make mine Noyes.' Why don't you join them?" --Byron Coley, October 23rd, 2016, South Deerfield, MA. Jackets are hand-painted, screenprinted, hand-glued, and hand-cut; Cover art by Raymond Pettibon. 180 gram vinyl pressed at RTI; Lacquers cut by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service; Edition of 330. JANSEN, STEVE Tender Extinction CD
In 1978, Japan released their debut album Adolescent Sex and kick started a career that would span decades. With Steve Jansen on drums, the band enjoyed huge success whilst simultaneously creating a back catalogue of music that still inspires today. Fast forward to 2007 and after many years working and collaborating with artists such as Richard Barbieri, Yukihiro Takahashi, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Bernd Friedmann, Steve released his debut, solo album Slope. Steve Jansen's second solo album Tender Extinction is an evocative blend of songs and instrumentals enlisting some of the singer/songwriters that appeared on Jansen's previous solo work Slope, namely Tim Elsenburg (Sweet Billy Pilgrim) and Thomas Feiner (Anywhen), as well as featuring new collaborations with Perry Blake (Ireland), Melentini (Greece), Nicola Hitchcock (UK) and including some vocal performances by Jansen himself. Atmospheric sound design creates a bed of complex, often atonal qualities, with delicate synth and orchestral arrangements drifting throughout to produce a multi-layered, emotive and hauntingly intimate album. Some titles are punctuated with Jansen's characteristically minimal drum patterns and off-kilter time signatures while others are structured with more classical elements such as piano, cello and orchestral string arrangements. All music and arrangements are by Jansen with guests vocalists providing their own lyrics and vocal melodies on five of the tracks. Steve on the album: "I spent a long time with the material, honing it down to those elements that blend together well in an attempt to allow the dissonance that weaves throughout much of the music to settle into its own space and not overly distract from the more harmonious content. The album is somewhat reflective and subtly addresses aspects of transience and transformation and a romance in holding onto those things we think of as precious and that will inevitably cease to exist."

MASUAK & THE VIVEIRO WAVE RIDERS, CHRIS Brujita LP
Aussie rock legend Chris "Klondike" Masuak returns with Brujita, his first album since 2011. A member of pioneering Aussie's Radio Birdman's classic line-up, Masuak has been involved in some of Australia's most noted rock bands, including Screaming Tribesmen, New Christs and Hitmen. After immersing himself in the blues on 2011's Workhorse, Masuak has dug deep into his songwriting bag for his third solo band long-player to come up with some of the best melodies of his long and storied career. Recorded with his crack Spanish band The Viveiro Wave Riders, Brujita is defined by its hooky tunes, nimble engine room and trademark scorching Masuak guitar. It alludes to his best work in the Hitmen (think the 1981 debut self-titled album and 1991's Moronic Inferno) and the Screaming Tribesmen. Brujita sees him return to his rock-pop roots. Masuak has fielded many requests for comment since his summary dismissal from Radio Birdman's ranks but for the most part has maintained silence, making just one brief statement. Two years later, the music on Brujita does the talking with two tracks, "Birdbrain" and "No Younger", pointedly reflecting on life as a key member of one of Australian underground rock and roll's most seminal bands. Brujita doesn't look over its own shoulder for too long. From the rollicking "Viveiro Rocks" to the raucous ode to Detroit's diva, "Niagara", this is an album of high-energy rock-pop riff-o-rama that screams out to be played loud and often. Want more? There's the Flamin' Groovies-meet-The Dictators swagger of "Another Lost Weekend", the rallying call of "Bully Boys", the hometown cheer of "Viveiro Rocks!" and the dark-sweet pop kiss of the title tune. Canadian-born, Australian-raised Chris Masuak is an Australian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who divides his time between Viveiro in Spain and Sydney, Australia. Edition of 300.

MEMORY BAND, THE A Fair Field LP
On their fifth album, A Fair Field, The Memory Band return once more to the ghost-lit back-roads of British traditional music where digital machinery and acoustic musicians congregate to make old music from the future. The Memory Band navigate a dream landscape of fading identity, dredging up forgotten histories from old maps, half-filled diaries, government records and lists left inside magazines detailing obsolete television schedules. The music was fed by stories of magical hares and the recollections of ballad sellers bearing placards at the great fairs of times past, the fields of which now lie buried beneath leisure centers, electricity substations, and retail parks. It traces the connection between the headstone of a man killed in Norfolk by the sails of a windmill, the first observations of solar flares, incendiarism, council estates and an old man's recollection of ploughing the land by starlight in another time. Since 2002, The Memory Band has been producing their own modern recipe of traditional music with a rolling cast of contributors led by producer Stephen Cracknell. A Fair Field includes vocal contributions from Liam Bailey, Helene Bradley, Hannah Caughlin, and Nancy Wallace and features the rhythm section of Olie Brice on double bass, Fred Thomas on piano and Tom Page on drums with strings by Lucy Railton and Rob Spriggs.

VA Kwangkay: Funerary Music Of The Dayak Benuaq Of Borneo LP
Numbering less than 1000 people, the Dayak Benuaq from the Eastern Kalimantan region of Indonesian Borneo still practice many of their traditional ceremonial customs. This album of field recordings presents the music associated with the kwangkay, the secondary mortuary ritual celebrated by the Dayak Benuaq, recorded live on location by Vincenzo Della Ratta. According to the Benuaq belief system, upon death the soul of the human being is transformed into the liau, associated with the physical body, and the kelelungan, associated with the intellect or the head. Both the liau and the kelelungan temporarily reside in a sort of cosmic location, connected respectively with the bones and the skull of the deceased, who has entered a state of deep unconsciousness, as yet neither pertaining completely to the realm of the living, nor to that of the dead. Music plays a key role within the kwangkay, as it is crucial for guiding the liau and kelelungan spirits to their final destinations. It is also intended to please the spirits of the dead by providing them with entertainment. This ritual includes a night dance performed for the spirits and accompanied by a musical piece known as the ngerangkau. These rites and ceremonies are often dedicated to several deceased persons and are held within a house belonging to one of their family members. Featured here are two different versions of the ngerangkau, with their long, trance-inducing rhythmic gong patterns. There are two more tracks on the album which are not specifically related to the kwangkay. "Titi Mati" is a gong piece commonly played to proclaim the recent death of a villager. And finally, a nocturnal soundscape of a village by the river Mahakam, a channel of transport and communication which is essential for the local people of the Benuaq territories. Limited edition LP; includes insert of text and images by Vincenzo Della Ratta.

VA Music Of The Bahnar People From The Central Highlands Of Vietnam LP
Sublime Frequencies present a collection of music from the Bahnar people who live in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The Bahnar are famous for their rich musical culture and this is perhaps the first-ever release to introduce the full range of Bahnar musical instruments and styles, including gong ensemble, bamboo zither, bamboo xylophone, bamboo fiddle with mouth resonator, and folk songs. Melodic and hypnotic, this music was selected from recordings made in the Kon Tum province from 2006 to 2015 by Eisuke Yanagisawa. One of many highlights of these recordings is a most unusual and stunning instrument - the bamboo fiddle with mouth resonator - which creates an effect that is on one hand an organic auto-tuner of sorts and on the other Peter Frampton coming alive on his 1970s talk-box. The Bahnar's music has been passed down through the ages in each village but is now endangered because of cultural assimilation related to changes in their lifestyles and living environment. These recordings preserve for us the vestiges of a traditional music culture that might no longer be heard in the near future. Includes performances by Kaly Tran And His Ensemble, A Wen, A Thut And His Ensemble, Gong Ensemble Of Kon Kotu Village, Y Tham & A Hieu, A Thao and Gong Ensemble Of The Long Loi Village. SLAPP HAPPY (WITH FAUST) Sort Of CD
Tapete present a reissue of Slapp Happy's Sort Of, originally released in 1972. Left-wing intellectual film critic Uwe Nettelbeck, who had good connections to Polydor, had set up his own studio in rural Wümme, disrupting the mainstream with pioneering sounds by the likes of Faust, inventively engineered by the "boffin's boffin", Kurt Graupner. By the time Anthony Moore, one of Nettelbeck's charges, approached his third album in 1972, Polydor's accounting department was fast losing patience with all that experimentalism. So Nettelbeck suggested to Moore that he might write some straight songs (relatively speaking), which in turn prompted Moore to invite his old school friend Peter Blegvad over to Hamburg to form the band Slapp Happy. Dagmar Krause, a young singer from Hamburg and Moore's girlfriend, joined them both on their trip to Wümme to record what was to become Sort Of, using Faust as a backing band. A second album emerged, eschewing, even more clearly than the Sort Of, the heavy rock idioms of the era for an anti-macho playfulness that presaged the sparseness of post punk and the dry jangle of early indie. Nonetheless, Polydor pulled the plug, and Uwe Nettelbeck signed Faust and Slapp Happy over to Richard Branson's nascent Virgin imprint. At the Manor, they would rerecord their second album with UK musicians, bells and whistles for a 1974 release as Slapp Happy, burying the original version in the vaults not to reemerge until 1980 as Acnalbasac Noom (TR 356CD/LP). After being asked which version they prefer today, the band does not take long to choose: "For the more direct approach it would have to be Acnalbasac Noom. It had a naïve spontaneity to it. Naïve in the nicest sense of the word."

Dagmar Krause, a young singer from Hamburg and Moore's girlfriend, joined them both on their trip to Wümme to record what was to become Sort Of (TR 355CD/LP), using Faust as a backing band. At the Manor, they would rerecord their second album with UK musicians, bells and whistles for a 1974 release as Slapp Happy, burying the original version in the vaults not to reemerge until 1980 as Acnalbasac Noom. After being asked which version they prefer today, the band does not take long to choose: "For the more direct approach it would have to be Acnalbasac Noom. It had a naïve spontaneity to it. Naïve in the nicest sense of the word." CD version includes four bonus tracks and comes in an edition of 500.

ROMANS Valere Aude CD
The Bunker New York present the second full-length album on their label: Valere Aude, the debut album from Romans, a collaborative project between New York techno producer Gunnar Haslam and Vienna-based acid evangelist Johannes Auvinen (aka Tin Man). Featuring 12 tracks of hallucinogenic, psychedelic techno, Valere Aude is an acid-etched trip to the outer reaches of the mind. "I just really like listening to albums. I think the popular notion of techno not lending itself to the album format is just a myth," says Haslam. Both Haslam and Auvinen are no strangers to the album format - Haslam has released three under his own name, and Tin Man has released no fewer than six. "The album format allows for more cohesive artistic statements than other formats - it feels like more of an achievement and delivers a filled-out narrative," explains Auvinen. That's a perfect summation of Valere Aude. Building on the blueprint they sketched with Ambulare Aude EP (BK 012EP 2015), their first 12" for The Bunker New York, Valere Aude presents a fleshed-out vision of another world where acid techno falls like rain upon a forgotten civilization. "The album connects to a fantastic fictional history in which we are imagining attitudes lost to the waters of time," Auvinen says. The track titles, in fact, allude to geographic designations in the greater Roman empire, adds Haslam. Although both Haslam and Auvinen are fully established artists in their own right, Romans is more than a meeting of the minds. "We are discovering a third entity as Romans, within Romans, which is neither he [Haslam] nor I," explains Auvinen, cryptically. "Our decisions as producers become simpler as we get closer to discovering Romans' sound." Haslam concurs: "Our production process is pretty quick - our compositional style is similar. We give each jam all that we have, then, later, sort 'em out and let providence decide whether it's any good." The finished product is a steamy, moody record, experimenting with atmospheres, tempos, and sounds, designed for blistering hot days and cold, rainy nights.

SHAPEDNOISE Deafening Chaos Serenity 12"
Nino Pedone, aka Shapednoise, provides a concept suite inspired by the "Serenity Manifesto" of Eric Burton (Rabit) and Francesco Birsa Alessandri - a sort of poetic inversion of Luigi Russolo's futurist manifesto, The Art of Noises (1913). In "Motion And Depth" or the bleached electro-acoustic structures of "Delusional Path" he dissolves the tension of Emanuele Porcinai's strings into a syntax of ecstatic physics. The subatomic diffusion of "Resistance To A Harmonious Vision" with Roly Porter speaks to an experience of luscious sensory overload. In the tumultuous "Pulling At The Seams Of Existence", he and Rabit embrace the discord of uncertainty.

MAIA, TIM Tim Maia (1977) LP
Vinilisssimo present the first vinyl reissue of Tim Maia's 1977 self-titled album. Tim Maia was born in 1942 in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro and started his musical career at an early age, along with close friends such as Roberto Carlos or Jorge Ben. Carlos would eventually help him to get a deal for his first single at CBS. During the '70s, Maia started to incorporate soul and funk elements into his style. After a two-year period involvement in the Cultura Racional in Brazil, Maia's funky style was still at its best when he released this album in 1977. It was his first and only recording for Som Livre, the legendary label that became extremely popular due to the many soap operas soundtracks in its extensive catalog. This self-titled LP deserves to be shortlisted among Maia's top records. It features killer tunes like the anthemic "É Necessário", undoubtedly one of the best songs in his career, and also boogie gems such as "Verão Carioca" or "Venha Dormir Em Casa" that show obvious influences by some of the biggest American soul artists of the time. It also contains intimate vocal delights as in the lovely smooth tune "Música Para Betinha" or even straight funky instrumentals like "Flores Belas". The string arrangements, wah-wah guitars, horns, deep vocals make this recording a milestone in the so-called "Black Movement" in Rio, where artists like Toni Tornado, Banda Black Rio and Maia himself were bringing in the funky sounds of America and mixing them with local rhythms like samba. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

LITHICS Borrowed Floors LP
"Repressed Again. On combination letter pressed and offset covers. Covers manufactured by Stumptown Printers. Limited edition of 300.Lithics is a four person minimalist punk band from Portland, Oregon formed in late 2014. Over the last year and a half they have refined a sound focusing on interlocked bass and drum rhythms paired with shrill guitar counterpoint and stark female vocals. While counting Wire, The Fall, Devo, Pylon, The Shadow Ring, and Captain Beefheart's Magic Band as reference points, the band's concerns are contemporary and urgent. An injection of uptight, nervous energy into the reverb drenched complacency of today's musical underground."

GARCIA AND MANUEL MOTA, MARGARIDA Crypt CD
2015 release. Crypt captures Margarida Garcia's and Manuel Mota's most intimate and profound work to date, digging through layers of filth and decay only to reveal an empty chamber where a body use to be. Key figures of the Lisbon experimental underground music scene, Margarida Garcia and Manuel Mota have worked together for over 20 years. Although their work has been consistent, through concerts and other collaborations in which both were involved, the only previous recordings of the duo dates back to 2001 and 1999. Crypt was recorded in Belgium and Portugal. Margarida's distinct lyrical and cavernous bass, as heard on her solo record The Leaden Echo (2012), has been present in concerts and recordings with blues master, Loren Connors, Thurston Moore, Marcia Bassett, Graindelavoix, Helena Espvall, Mattin, David Maranha, Barry Weisblat and Jeff Perkins, among others. Manuel's soulful guitar playing was praised by the late Derek Bailey, among others. He has an extensive solo output but often is found in various atmospheres like the Rodrigo Amado Wire Quartet, David Maranha's Osso Exotico, or Bjorn Schmelzer's early music ensemble Graindelavoix (also with Margarida).

TERRAKOTA Oxala CD
Since 2006, Terrakota have forged their own pan-African and trans-Atlantic roots-world-kota sound, a style that has travelled the world, always looking for musical fusions within the multi-ethnic cauldron: Afro-Brazilian rhythms, soukouss, reggae, Afro-beat, gnawa, with influences from India and beyond. On their sixth studio album Oxalá, the band embrace their Portuguese roots while diving more deeply into their rock influences. Terrakota's first albums were inspired by travels to Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, while also incorporating influences from Latin America. The fourth album is clearly marked by their trip to India. Oxalá is inspired by an internal travel, giving light to Portuguese songs built on top of their Afro-explosive melting pot. Africa remains the main source, the starting point from where the band looks for the perfect alchemy to get to their trademark modern roots sound, where all borders, distances and barriers are wiped out. The darkest pages of human history somehow fascinate Terrakota, following the ancient trade routes, but turned upside-down, from the new world back to Africa, drinking from the fantastic musical diversity that has been spread around the world through slavery. On this sixth album, the leaders of the Portuguese Afro/world/fusion scene have again invited guests to make the music even richer, special people with whom the band has a privileged relationship: traditional Alentejo singer Vitorino, Indian singer Mahesh Vinayakram, French rapper Florian Doucet, beat-maker and producer Beat Laden, Kumpania Algazzara's horn section, and backing vocals by the Lisbon-based Selma Uamusse (Mozambique) and Anastácia Carvalho (Angola), without forgetting a brilliant text by the Angolan rapper Luaty Ikonoklasta. After parting ways with vocalist Romi and two sabbaticals, Terrakota has added fresh blood with the young and talented singer/multi-instrumentalist Gonçalo Sarmento, the gracious performer/dancer Diana Rego, as well as new drummer Márcio Pinto and percussionist Paulo das Cavernas. These new elements and the extra years of travelling for the veterans have brought Terrakota to an even more mature sound, with concise lyrics and the guts to do some songwriting in addition to their explosive Afro-world sound. The Portuguese globetrotters have reached new highs with Oxalá. Comes in a four-panel digipak sleeve and includes a 28-page booklet.
