BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Pol Pot's Pleasure Penthouse 2LP
RSD 2017 release. First time vinyl release of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Pol Pot's Pleasure Penthouse. The only time this album was ever officially released was on cassette on Burger Records (in a limited edition of 500). Recorded in 1990/91 on a four-track at Anton Newcombe's home in San Francisco, Pol Pot's Pleasure Penthouse best described in Anton's own words: "when I left home and moved to San Francisco, first thing on my mind was joining a band... the problem for me was that there were not any bands that would have me or even played the type of music I imagined I wanted to hear... so I decided to start my own... I would make small down payments at pawnshops for gear, buy recording machines, amps, guitars, whatever. Within three months of teaching myself the seven folk chords I use nonstop to this day, I had already taught a few new friends how to play as well and we were off. I used to make up songs everyday on the four-track just to teach myself how to write... I understood what I liked about music, I just didn't know how to pull it out of the ether and bring them into being. At the same time, I would make demo tapes and share them with friends... endless demo tapes... I would send them to magazines and record labels with no return address, just for the fuck of it. It was never my intention to actually release this music... for instance, if I came up with a country song, I would finish it just to learn more about writing... I didn't want to be in a classic country group, this is a document of my learning process. Good times... this album is one such tape from 1990/91, I can't remember. Enjoy." Available here on 180 gram blue colored vinyl.

TOLOUSE LOW TRAX Decades Vol.II LP
The second installment of archive material from Tolouse Low Trax, selected by Antinote. You can trail away with it; it is easy to enter, but hard to drop out. Tolouse Low Trax just needs an MPC, a small synthesizer set up, and some effects to create subliminal hypnotic music trips, driven by dark synth lines and drunken shuffled patterns. Tolouse Low Trax explains: "The primitiveness in my music is linked to something simple, and that don't have to be obligatory minimal. For me it is enough to dance rough around the core. Music you don't shape till the end contains of a moment of beauty. A veil of secrecy. I work very simply. I rather reduce my possibilities. Limitations offer lots of liberties." He reveals about his work ethic. Even if his music sounds darker than any experienced night, he mostly produces it in the morning, in his highly inspirational studio home. During the dark times of the day Tolouse Low Trax mostly performs live around the globe. Or hangs out in his second home: the Salon Des Amateurs club bar in Dusseldorf, which he once founded and where he held until today two weekly DJ residencies. The moments and atmospheres he inhales during these lightless moments are mirrored in his shadowy music, about which he also confesses: "My art is more a cinematic, literally idea of a large to explore 'Megacity'. This is one of the pictures I would link to my music." On Decades Vol.II, he offers four sounding visions about that "Megacity". They listen to mysterious names like "Hidden Flat" or "Studies In Drama". They are nervous. They are ephemeral pieces of dub, industrial, wave, or Italian library music. And at times strange and alienated voice samples dance within his highly addictive arrangements. Words can't express their magic. But one thing is absolute: his hypnotic dance-not-dance tracks do not only illuminate so-called freaks!

Berlin-based artist Fabian Dikof is back with Who EP on Best Works Records. His trademark sound remains: catchy arpeggio-sounds with tech-house synth usage. With these elements he creates a very mature tapestry that gives the tune great dynamic play in its rhythmic morphosis. The track "Camouflage" features Berlin-based vocalist Ann Weller from the band Ann & Bones. Last but not least, remixer Dubspeeka reworks the original giving it a more minimal techno-flavor and with its tool-character, it hits the dancefloor full on. His forthcoming debut album will be out on Blackest Ever Black. To prepare the ground, the label have cut two of its heaviest weapons to white label: "Through The Fog", a slab of neo-junglist soundsystem pressure chopping bit-crushed breaks, clipped vocal licks, and bass drones and "Peter Hitchens", a "tribute" in broken techno to the columnist, driven by BMB-style dropforge drums and a tripped-out ARP synth line.

BOOKA SHADE Galvany Street LP
LP version. 140 gram vinyl. Printed inner-sleeves. Galvany Street is the start of a new chapter in the history of Berlin-based duo Booka Shade. Long before Booka Shade became one of the most successful international dance music acts of the last ten years, Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger formed a new wave pop band in the early '90s, signed a record deal in 1992 and released two albums under the name Planet Claire. Galvany Street marks the return to their pop roots in collaboration with former Archive singer Craig Walker and a few additional guests like Urdur (GusGus), Australian Yates, and Daniel Spencer from London. Craig Walker on recording with Booka Shade: "As a singer, it's a real pleasure to work with Booka Shade as the music they presented to me was so rich and full of melody. The rhythms and melody are always top level and make the job of writing top lines and lyrics a very enjoyable one. I really love the combination of all our influences -- '80s synth pop, '90s Manchester and right up to more current stuff like The Weeknd -- it's all in there and it makes for a very interesting sound." Mark Plati, known for his production and mixing with David Bowie, The Cure, Prince, and many others, worked on "Digging A Hole", "Eyes Open", and "All Falls Down". Fritz Hilpert, mix engineer and electronic musician, a friend of Booka Shade, got involved with the final mix for "All Falls Down". If you think you know exactly what to expect from Booka Shade, Galvany Street will prove you wrong. You might find the occasional up-tempo beat here and there, but there are hardly any references to any Booka Shade music of the past. 2016's Movements 10, the ten-year anniversary of their milestone album, was the ultimate closure of a chapter, in which everything had been said and done in the realms of a trademark tech house and electro house sound, the project had invented and made popular across the globe. One of the strongest points of Galvany Street is the fact, that many of these songs instantly create a feeling of familiarity, grab you, build an emotional connection, and feel like songs that have been with you for years.

JUTE GYTE The Sparrow 12"
Adam Kalmbach, the sole musician and producer behind Jute Gyte, is the most important musician in metal since Death's Chuck Schuldiner. Adam has crafted two side-long pieces. The first of these, "The Sparrow", is a kind of modernist black metal symphony that might share some signifiers with the despair-loaded blizzard hymns familiar to fans of Norwegian black metal. The second piece, "Monadanom", is from a suite of ambient microtonal guitar pieces that Adam has been incubating for us since early 2014. It is oceanic, not in the usual new agey sense most often applied to ambient music.

BOYS NOIZE Mayday Remixes 2LP
The album Mayday (2016) saw Boys Noize take his raw, aggressive production to new levels of musicality - true songs instead of club tools. Never one to stray too far from his roots however, Mayday Remixes brings it all right back to the basement. Nearly every track from the album is reworked by Boys Noize with the club and DJ in mind, and the techno gods should be thanked because his Roland TB-303 and TR-808 could handle it. "Overthrow" gets an absolutely jacking acid overdub, "Mayday" is tweaked for maximum dancefloor effect, "Dynamite" gets a Benga dub, "2 Live" morphs into sonically rich disco, "Euphoria" gets a hard percussive techno overhaul, and fans finally get the epic live reprise mix of "Starchild" heard in Boys Noize's sets across the world in 2016. The new album additionally offers remixes from a diverse roster of fresh faces and respected talent. The brutally aggressive "Hardkotzen" gets a proper techno remix by Sydney's Jensen Interceptor, BNR's young rave revivalist Raito brings his signature '90s touch to "Midnight", and Rockwell - of course - offers an utterly mad "Birthday" remix. Mayday Remixes, and edits, expand the original album's world providing its fans, new listeners, and DJs alike a wealth of choice cuts - always shedding cliches, always pushing the boundaries of electronic music and culture forward, and always, always Boys Noize. Also features: Remy Banks, MXM, GILA, Polica, Hudson Mohawke, and Spank Rock.

ANDRIESSEN, JURRIAAN The Awakening Dream LP
LP version. Bureau B present a reissue of Jurriaan Andriessen's The Awakening Dream, originally released in 1977. Jurriaan Andriessen (1925-1996) was a Dutch composer. Although he was actually at home in classical music, he recorded three synthesizer albums in the late 1970s, the first of which, The Awakening Dream, is an outstanding excursion into experimental ambient and minimal music. Andriessen himself, 52 years of age at the time, called it a "trance symphony". The music - perhaps surprisingly for a contemporary classical composer - is less in the tradition of his peers such as Pierre Boulez or Karlheinz Stockhausen and more in tune with the electronic sounds of the '70s emanating from Berlin, Düsseldorf, or Forst, the likes of Cluster, early Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream, in places echoing Conrad Schnitzler. Andriessen was familiar with the work of these artists, but was probably more influenced by minimalist composers like Philip Glass or synthesizer pioneer Walter Carlos whom he admired. The entire album is played on a Minimoog Model D, a Fender Rhodes piano, a Hohner Clavinet, and a Philicorda organ. It was recorded sound on sound, before the 8-track machine entered the studio, using two Revox A77 tape recorders. Andriessen studied in Paris with Olivier Messiaen and in the USA with Serge Koussevitsky and Aaron Copland. Back in Holland he worked for radio, television and theatre. His compositions for state ceremonies such as the coronation of Queen Beatrix and the annual "Opening of Parliament" won him acclaim and he also wrote the music for the Oscar winning film The Assault (1986). Andriessen started to experiment with synthesizers on new compositions in the early 1970s. In 1973, he wrote music for Georg Büchner's play Leonce And Lena and performed it on the ARP 2500 synthesizer. Andriessen was more interested in the challenge of creating new, previously unheard sounds than he was in imitating existing instruments. He strived to invent a novel, unique musical universe. Later he worked mainly with a Minimoog Model D, experimenting and recording in the Dream Studio, the home studio he built with his sons Gijs and Nils in The Hague. As a composer, Jurriaan was always ahead of his time. He loved research and enjoyed using uncommon or newly invented instruments in his compositions, often in unconventional formations. His last work, Jeux Des Vents, appeared in 1996. He died later the same year in The Hague.

FAUST Fresh Air LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Faust's new album Fresh Air differs in several respects from its predecessor, Just Us (BB 182CD/LP, 2014). The recordings were made at Jean-Hervé Péron's rehearsal studio in Schiphorst in northern Germany, hypnotic pieces with the kind of noisemaking the band is known for. For the new album, Péron and Werner "Zappi" Diermaier were looking for communication with musician friends and the audience. The tracks were recorded in changing ensembles at changing locations in the USA (during a tour in 2016). In these community recordings, with friendly support from Péron's database of field recordings, a strongly shaded noise music emerged which extends its feelers to the remotest corners of the here and now. Droning, swinging, lusting for freedom, here and there holding out quite stoically as machine-room blues. On board are the freely fabulous Barbara Manning in a live lecture, Jürgen Engler (Die Krupps) in overdub, and Ysanne Spevack as a wonderful wave-maker on the viola. The seven and a half minute title track begins with the poem by a French school friend of Péron (translated and recited in Polish) and ends in an industrial sound inferno. The singer cries for "Fresh Air" as if it is being taken away from him. Jean-Hervé Péron offers a political reading: "Can you breathe calmly here, or are we being poisoned?" "Engajouez Vous!" Péron presents this franco-Faustian artificial word to the audience and rewrites the Marseillaise for the here and now in the track "Chlorophyl". And finally, Zappi has his mini-dada performance with "Schnobs" and "Bia": a small dialect-based text piece, which starts with chlorophyl, goes over the meadow past the cow and lands with the farmer who drinks a beer and schnapps and suddenly sees two cows. The story of the band can tell that tale nicely. As Krautrockers, Faust had a worldwide career. On their first three albums in the early 1970s, they inhabited the vast field from improvisation to bricolage to rock'n'roll with the ease of rogues and the determination of declared sonic renegades. One can still feel the breathing of this music in current Faust pieces, in the stone-age thudding of "Fish", which Faust anticipated in 1972 on "Mamie Is Blue". "We let the music play through us," says Jean-Hervé Péron. Jean-Hervé Péron has a little tip for us: Listen to the fish.

VA Like Nashville In Naija: Nigeria's Romance With Country Music, Yesterday And Today 2LP
RSD 2017 release. "Country music is big in Africa. Yes, we realize how absurd that probably sounds to most ears, but it's really true: American country & western records have been tremendously popular and deeply beloved across the continent for almost a century. The people of the West African nation of Nigeria have long been not only voracious consumers of country music, but fairly enthusiastic performers of it as well. Cowboy songs have remained a consistent part of most bands' live repertoire, but relatively few artists have dedicated themselves to actually recording country music. They did exist, though; mostly in the1970s and 80s, but they were rarely heard outside the country, and in the intervening years, most of their output has fallen through the cracks of posterity, forgotten even by ardent music fans at home. Until now. Like Nashville In Naija: Nigeria's Romance With Country Music, Yesterday And Today collects some of the best country recordings as a loving tribute to Nigeria's cowboy troubadours of yore."

Visions Congo is yet another moniker from Discrepant's head honcho, Gonc?alo F Cardoso, taking Africa as a starting point to evoke the memories and re-imagined experiences of his six-month stay there in 2015. Most of the recordings and compositions were done in the great lakes of the African regions of Uganda, Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and the island of Zanzibar. Mulago Sound Studio is a series of surreal and augmented field recordings that try to brace the listener with fresh alien authenticity before toying, very pointedly, with antiquated constructs by mixing avant-garde dustbin synth music with concrete field recordings and humorous, tongue-in-cheek intersections -- never to be taken too seriously. Equipped with a brand new art collage by US artist Evan Crankshaw. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering by Rashad Becker.

CIANI, SUZANNE Fish Music 7"
RSD 2017 release. Single-sided "aquatic clear" 7". Includes a copy of the original press release as well as a press cutting from the time. Limited edition of 1000. As the first and only label dedicated to liberating the private, non-commercial artifacts from Suzanne Ciani's groundbreaking Ciani Musica studio vault, Finders Keepers Records presents the first release of an incredible cryogenically suspended slice of precious, precocious, immersive fledgling synthesis. Ironically well removed from the intention of phonographic application in its original inception, this anti-pop wash of marine biology modular synth sound-design was originally proposed by a very young Ciani for exclusive infinite-loop airings in a giant mid-American shopping mall aquarium in 1977. Potentially conjuring ambient scenes from the consumerist satire Dawn of the Dead while sonically ushering in a genuine desire for total musical science reevaluation and revolution via a decidedly mainstream portal, the Fish Music project is a striking, eerie example of how Ciani's "Subversion With A Smile" approach led to a long career of breaking boundaries in formal music technology, film scoring, the advertising industry, and gender equality -- all of which has continued to fuel her passion and channel her life-lust and artistic appetite, much to the benefit of future ambitious trajectories of music. Owing much to the memory of genuine synthesizer maverick Don Buchla, this conceptual release is very much the product of artistic America at its progressive halcyon, but with its illustrious and idiosyncratic composition also communicates subtle undertones of Ciani's feminine Italian origins, which seldom reside outside of the efforts of Roman library composers like Casa, Tomassi, Raskovich, and siblings Antonio and Maria Teresa Luciani. File under... water.

FISER, LUBOS Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders 7"
RSD 2017 release. Housed in unique packaging based on a rare variation of the original Czech film poster. Limited edition of 1000. Finders Keepers Records celebrates the 2017 10-year anniversary of the label's 2007 release of the Czechoslovakian soundtrack to the 1970 surrealist new wave masterpiece Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (Valerie a týden div?) with a very special 7" EP of previously unreleased variations, vocal tracks, and newly resurrected themes from the original master tapes of composer Lubos Fiser. Possibly the most treasured modern surrealist artifact from the vibrant and indelible Czech New Wave "film miracle" (alongside V?ra Chytilová's Daisies (1966) and Fruit of Paradise (1970)), Valerie and Her Week of Wonders was directed by the controversial Jaromil Jires (a member of the original '60s FAMU film school community) and featured young freak fairytale regular Jaroslava Schallerová (Malá mo?ská víla (1976)) and Helena Anýzová (Daisies, The Cremator (1969)), but in addition to its stunning cast and breathtaking design and costumes (by Ester Krumbachová), it was in fact the delicate European cinematic small-orchestra score that would future-proof this film for decades after it was first released in the eye of a 1970 communist censorship cull (thus earning Valerie the highly touted and debated status as the final film of the CNW). Rewound, mislead, misinterpreted, over-analysed, and undersold, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders would be scantily syndicated and repackaged in various decontextualized arenas throughout the '80s and '90s via B-movie and Euro-sleaze channels before being eventually adopted by the VHS generation with the reignition of films by Jess Franco and Jean Rollin; it finally regained its rightful status as a genuine European new wave masterstroke emerging from the rubble of the final fall of communism in the early 90s. Expanding on a soundtrack that would form a direct inspiration for bands like Broadcast and Espers, this seven-track 7" also features macabre sound design, effects, and dark atmospherics that are not available on the Finders Keepers LP version.

This is their second album, and the first one to be released on Garzen Records. The band has a strong social and political message. The anti-government lyrics, and the breaking of taboos made the band one of the most intriguing bands in the Middle East. Many of the songs in the album came out of frustration of the situation in Israel.

SLICK RICK The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick / Children's Story CD w/7"
RSD 2017 release. "Storytelling has been a part of the hip-hop lexicon since the artform's earliest days. And in all those decades, there has never been a tale-weaver like Slick Rick. Even masters who came along in Rick's wake -- ranging from Will Smith to Ghostface Killah and Eminem -- know that even though they blazed their own paths, they never did it better than the Slick one. When it comes to Rick and his tales, 1988's Children's Story is perhaps his best, recited to this day by fans and MCs in training as a rite of passage. Just hearing the opening lines begins a sing-along that can quickly fill a room: 'Once upon a time / Not long ago / When people wore pajamas / And lived life slow?.' Get On Down, known for its unique approach to packaging hip-hop classics, has come up with another winner here, presenting the lyrics to this immortal rap tale in never-before-seen form. Rick's lines from the song are re-created in visual form in a 16 page book with a puffy cover -- presented like a legit children's book, thick pages and all. From the little boy who was misled to the tense police chase, to the unsure children hearing the story from their 'uncle Ricky,' this is the most unique way the story has ever been presented. Of course there is music to match -- for Record Store Day the exclusive package includes a picture sleeve 45 with 'Children's Story' and 'The Moment I Feared' (with artwork taken from the original Children's Story 12-inch), and a CD of The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick, the 1988 Def Jam album that made Rick a worldwide star. Whether you pick this up for yourself or to give to the hip-hop fan on your shopping list who will stare wide-eyed at the unique package, no one will walk away from this one disappointed."

TARQUIN Grease/Foxtown 12"
London-based producer and DJ Tarquin returns to Gobstopper Records. "Grease" is a high-tempo example of the genre's more experimental side, using fragmented percussive samples set to a background of pitch-bent chord stabs and twisted melodic elements. Providing as much impact in the track's negative space as in its instrumentation, Tarquin's minimalist approach to production establishes its boldness and makes it a highly recognizable piece of deconstructed club music. As a counterpoint to the abstract starkness of "Grease", the release's flip side "Foxtown" utilizes ominous synths and distorted bass tones to tackle the more upfront sound of first generation grime production.

MORE, BENY El Barbaro Del Ritmo: Mexico & Cuba Recordings 1947-1962 2LP
RSD 2017 release. "It's safe to say that Beny (or Benny as it is often spelled) Moré is still - and will probably always be - Cuba's favorite and most iconic vocalist whose influence was central to what we call salsa, a legacy still felt today. 'El Benny' was born Bartolomé Maximiliano Moré Gutiérrez, on August 24, 1919 in the rural hamlet of Santa Isabel de Las Lajas in the former province of Las Villas near Cienfuegos, and died in Havana on February 19, 1963. Beny occupies a unique position not only in the history of Cuba's music but also in the socio-political and cultural life of the island because despite major differences between detractors and believers in Castro's revolution, they can all agree he was the greatest sonero (improvising vocalist) of all, the original 'El Sonero Mayor'. Moré's appeal was, and remains, international, making him a trans-national ambassador of Caribbean Latin culture. Aside from the unique quality of expression, fluid execution and natural, warm timbre of his voice, there is something intangible and magical in Beny's sound that defies explanation and has its roots in Mother Africa. He was equally adept at most Cuban popular song genres, such as the mambo, bolero, son montuno, cha-cha-cha, and guaracha, all of which are represented here in this special collection. Many of his signature catchphrases, such as '¡Azúcar!' and '¡Ecua jé!' for instance, were later adopted by other singers. In this special compilation you can hear historical recordings made during his years lived in Mexico with the orchestras of Rafael de Paz, Ernesto Duarte, Mariano Mercerón, and Dámaso Pérez Prado until the impressive performances with his Giant Band in Cuba. Enjoy!" --Pablo "Bongohead" Yglesias Comes in 350 gram cardboard, reverse side print sleeve; Comes on 140 gram vinyl; Edition of 500.

Experimental electronic duo These Hidden Hands return with a single featuring vocals from Lucrecia Dalt. An extrapolation of the ideas explored on the debut album (HIDDEN 002LP), this new single comprises two cuts, leading the listener through abstract sonic terrain. "These Moments Dismantled" a lesson of the vulnerability of musical space juxtaposed with a dense apocalyptic nature. "Variant" is reportedly a self-remix of the A-side. Abrasive layering of complex textures that jerk between tension and release, where a heightened sense of drama seeps through from the frosty low-howl noir of Dalt's vocals. Artwork by Jesse Draxler.

They go straight to places where tears are shed, chairs are thrown, discussions of parting are present, but the music is created regardless. Having "met" in 2012 online and instantly e-hitting it off musically, their "atmospheric in theme and vibe" material had soon after been supported by the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Indie Shuffle, Noisey US, Paste, The Music Ninja, Earmilk, Interview Magazine, NYLON, and many more. With the release of their upcoming album Nothing Lasts Forever (And It's Fine), Flora Cash face their most challenging moments to date sewn deep into the music. They instantly share this uneasy and raw kind of anxiety with the listener, the type that affects one's mind, body and then somehow manages to creep into every aspect of one's life, soon to be in control of it. The duo skillfully blend their deep love for acoustic soundscapes and layer it with just the right amount of ethereal production, hinting at Mt. Wolf, Poliça, Vogue Dots, and Kings Of Convenience. Through the painful dialogue between Shpresa's observations and Cole's suffering, the duo succeeds at designing an inter-dimensional delicate, yet mighty piece of music.

BARBIERI, CATERINA Patterns Of Consciousness 2LP
Patterns Of Consciousness is the powerful second full-length from analog synth composer Caterina Barbieri. Gorgeous high resolution analog textures and algorithmic melodies unfold under Barbieri's careful control, exploring the basic nature of sound and consciousness. These pieces are minimal in arrangement but maximal in presence asserting Barbieri as a unique voice in contemporary electronic music composition. Patterns Of Consciousness was originated by ideally infinite permutation of patterns through a disciplined and exclusive use of machinery (an indexed quad sequencer and a harmonic oscillator). By means of subtraction, addition, and jitter operations, Barbieri derives a myriad of interlocking patterns extracted from an original matrix of just few harmonic archetypes, gradually developing the potential of the reduced constellation of pitches and durations determined in advance. Pushing the limits of her monophonic instrument, Barbieri seeks out counterpoint from a single oscillator through the exclusive use of additive synthesis, fast progressions, extreme melodic jumps, and intricate delay lines. She develops an illusory counterpoint style influenced by her passion for baroque lute music, where fast arpeggios are employed to get effects of sustained chords and overcome the limits of fast decay timbres. But the highly formulaic and germinative style of these pieces is also influenced by Indian classical music's vision of sound as an agent of change and recreation. Patterns are understood as the cells of an organism or the units of a language: a limited set of signs that can be recombined to always generate new possibilities. In POC, repetition and permutation of patterns are explored as tools to reconfigure perceptions and bend emotions, approaching sound as a medium to develop and master our own perceptual art. Emerging machine intelligence, human desire of pattern detection and the understanding of music as a cognitive feedback between humans and technology are primary sources of inspiration for this work. All the compositions share a common fatalistic tension, an impossible running, a restless rush - somewhat nervous somewhat ecstatic - to grasp a meaning out of fragments. Every piece in POC is conceived as a generative entity, a dynamic and living being able to develop its own organic laws, whose inner potential of growth and change is embedded in the initial instructions of the sequencer. Music produced by Caterina Barbieri between September 2015 and January 2016. Mixed at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm. RIYL: Alessandro Cortini, Eleh.Caterina Barbieri on Patterns Of Consciousness: "A pattern creates a certain state of consciousness. Once it is created, the pattern stands as an object exactly like the sound waves which generate it. We are at the same time inside and outside of the object. While being it, we observe it. Over time we become familiar with the inner structure of the pattern. We decode its gravitational centres, where our psychomotor attention is attracted, where everything seems to be drawn. When a change in the pattern occurs it causes a perturbation of the previously established field of forces. This causes consciousness to fracture, potentially unfolding layers of perceptions we weren't aware of or simply suggesting that we access only a fraction of our psychic potential. The layered nature of consciousness and the relativity of perception are some of the biggest secrets we can experience through sound."

T.RAUMSCHMIERE Heimat 2LP
Double LP version. Includes download code. Berlin's own Marco Haas, aka T.Raumschmiere, made an irreparable impression globally in the '00s as a saw-toothed, anti-rave radical, thanks to his immense stage antics and larger-than-life releases on Novamute. Since then, Haas has established himself as a contemporary with emotive, dark ambient tales on his own imprints Shitkatapult and AlbumLabel. Kompakt's love affair with Haas goes back to their earliest days. Some of his first tracks were released on Kompakt in the form of two raw EPs entitled Bolzplatz (KOM 021EP, 2000) and Musick (KOM 037EP, 2001). These two formative releases elevated the "Schaffel" sound to raw and shameless places never before imagined. The results set a tidal wave in motion that to this day remains one of Kompakt's most infamous legacies. In an off-chance reunion with Haas in his studio, Kompakt learnt about what he'd been doing since the "Monstertruckdriver" days. It turned out he's been ever so busy outside of the mainstream working with the likes of Dieter Meier of Yello, Caspar Brötzmann, Andreas Dorau, Fraktus, Ofrin, or Barbara Morgenstern, and his recent work with Ulli Bomans, aka Schieres, as SHRUBBN!!. Kompakt present T.Raumschmiere's new, epic solo full-length Heimat. It presents another side of his work which was always there, but never got that much airtime: the artist, the author, the composer with the crystal-clear sound. Heimat is a stunning techno album that neither excludes ambient, nor gets reduced to constant ass kicking. It's perhaps the best recording so far from this man who asks so deeply, so extensively, so much. And at some point even answers.

ASHLEY, ROBERT Yellow Man With Heart With Wings CD
1990 CD issue of Robert Ashley's 1978 piece for voice and electronics. A two-part composition with narration (part one in Spanish and part two in heavily altered English) commissioned by public radio station KUNM in Albuquerque, this music has a plain, serene beauty. Part one is a narration by Guillermo Grenier in dreamy, flatly inflected Spanish, backed by a four-note synthesizer track, and punctuated by mysterious, heavily processed vocalizations. Ashley throws in extensive sound washes and other electronic figures which flutter in and out of the mix. The text, "Ideas from The Church," will later shows up in the 1994 opera, Foreign Experiences. It is included in the liner notes. In part two, the four-note synthesizer line returns, this time backing an ethereal, sustained chord, and the vocals sound "like a distant rendering of the earth's electromagnetic halo." Personnel: Robert Ashley - English voice and all instruments; "Blue" Gene Tyranny - clavinet; Guillermo Grenier - Spanish voice.

TUDOR, DAVID Three Works For Live Electronics CD
1996 release. Originally released on Lovely Music as Pulsers / Untitled in 1984. This re-release includes an additional piece from David Tudor, Phonemes. Pulsers explores the world of rhythms created electronically by analog, rather than digital, circuitry. With analog circuitry, the time-base common to the rhythms can be varied in many different ways by a performer, and can eventually become unstable. Untitled is a part of a series of works composed in the 1970s that were developed through experiments in generating electronic sound without the use of oscillators, tone generators, or recorded natural sound materials. Composed in 1972, it was designed for simultaneous performance with John Cage's vocalization of his Mesostics Re Merce Cunningham. The work was revived in 1982, and performed with improvised vocals by Takehisa Kosugi. Phonemes was commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for Cunningham's dance Channels/Inserts (1981), a work made both as a "filmdance" and for the stage. Phonemes employs two discrete processes which provide input source material for an array of sound modifying electronics, thus creating a multitude of outputs. David Tudor, electronics, with Takehisa Kosugi, electronic violin and vocals; produced and recorded by David Tudor, Nicolas Collins, and John D.S. Adams.

LED ER EST Dust On Common LP
RSD 2017 release. Mannequin Records present a reissue of one of the best minimal synth/cold wave albums of the past 15 years. Dust On Common from Led Er Est (Sam De La Rosa, Shawn O'Sullivan, and Owen Hutchinson) was originally released in 2009 by the seminal Brooklyn based record label Wierd Records. The band's first full-length release showed the three piece clearly breaking out of the minimal synth underground they had been a vital integral part of since its inception in Brooklyn to create an undeniably contemporary set of highly crafted and restrained, icily psychedelic pop songs. Synthesizing countless disparate musical influences from first wave British industrial music to house, disco, and the largely unknown cold wave (aka "La Vague Froide") tradition in Northern Europe, the tracks on Dust On Common fly by, straight out of the frozen hot, lonely cold plains of vocalist Samuel Kklovenhoof's native central Texas. After digesting a few songs of this rich dust, the listener can do no other than lie down in the wild weird Laredo bunker to revel in the refreshingly brisk blast of hedonistic analog pleasure dancing through the airwaves in the sky above... Comes on orange vinyl; Edition of 500.

VA Sounds of New Music LP
"The compositions on Side I of this record represent attempts at new means of musical expression. Some utilize conventional musical instruments and sounds in startlingly new ways, giving an impression of an actual 'new' sound being created; some use instruments new to music (electrical, mechanical and natural) adding to the composers' palette of timbres and tonalities. . . . SIDE II of this record is meant as a tool for those using new sounds and techniques in composing. There are basic sounds (some of which are hard to come by) and basic sound patterns, together with examples of how these sounds and patterns may be utilized." --original liner notes by Eugene BruckSounds of New Music is a legendary collection of 18 compositions from the 1920s to the mid-1950s; composers include Edgard Varèse, Henry Cowell, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Otto Luening, Julius Meytuss, Alexander Mossolov, Halim El-Dabh, and John Cage, whose "Dance" is performed on a transformed Steinway piano that gives the music an almost primitive quality. Side B (The Experiments) includes works by Ussachevsky, Henry Jacobs, and Roger Marin & Frederic Ramsey, Jr. Originally released by Folkways Records in 1957.

GINSBERG, ALLEN Allen Ginsberg Reads Howl and Other Poems LP
"This is arguably the best-known recording to feature any beat-era poet. . . . Although 'Howl' is the centerpiece, the peripheral works -- especially the mantra-like 'Footnote to Howl' and 'Howl' (Part One)' -- are given empowering presentations that magnify the greatness that's inextricably inherent in both art and artist. Indeed, the genesis of Allen Ginsberg's brilliance as both poet and performer has rarely been equalled. The modern listener remains entranced by his vaudevillian sense of provocation as it couples with an unspoken, yet palpable obsession of a postmodern amphetamine-fuelled Shakespeare" --Lindsay Planer, AllMusic. DARK SKY Othona 2LP
Double LP version. Dark Sky represent progression. The London duo have never settled for a specific sound nor dwelled in a single niche too long. What's striking about all their releases is their passionate love for all kinds of electronic music, not exclusively dancefloor related. This is no different with Othona, the second album from Dark Sky on Monkeytown. Across nine tracks, Matt Benyayer and Tom Edwards manage to reinvent themselves once more by merging contemporary techno, classic electronica, and their roots in British bass music into a touching and thrilling whole. With releases on Black Acre, 50Weapons, Tectonic, and Mister Saturday Night, Dark Sky have proved their versatility. There's the vibrant deep house of In Brackets (2013), the colorful two-step and breakbeat excursions on Black Rainbows (ACRE 033EP, 2012) and the vocal-laden melancholia of imagin (MONKEY 048CD/LP, 2014). Othona picks up on the sound of their 2014 debut and tweaks it just in the right spots. Matt and Tom left vocals off altogether and left the intriguing melodies, shape-shifting rhythms, and heavy bass do all the dramatic work. A large part of Othona is the result of Dark Sky's touring experience. Years of putting together their live sets encouraged them to focus on hardware instruments and samplers, preferring a more hands-on approach to computer screens. The album is also heavily inspired by photos and field recordings they took of isolated structures within different landscapes. One particular location which caught their attention was Bradwell-on-Sea in Essex, which is based on an ancient Roman fort called Othona. Othona is always challenging and never takes the easy route, but its tracks constantly reveal the purest form of beauty. The title track opens the album and gently introduces its musical range with emotive pads, elaborate beat programming, and subtle club signifiers, which steadily develops into the epic mid-tempo trance of "Domes". The slightly nostalgic synth melodies and cute bleeps of "Badd" bring to mind classic Aphex, which is never a bad thing, while "The Walker" channels ubiquitous melancholy into a standout moment of euphoria. Dark Sky are never short of emotional elements, but they know very well where to put them. Just listen to closing track "Field Tower", giving the kick drum its final overwhelming appearance - no doubt that this is going to be a highlight in their new live set.

INSPIRESCU, PETRE Vintul Prin Salcii 2LP
Double LP version. With his third album Vin Ploile (MUSIQ 051CD/192LP, 2015) the Bucharest, Romania based producer, musician, and DJ Petre Inspirescu captured a whole new audience and reached out with minimal left-field ambient sounds to music-loving folks that are not part of the worldwide dance music universe. Well known as one of the key figures of the Romanian electronic dance music scene since his first EP Tips on Luciano's label Cadenza (2007), Inspirescu stepped away from club sounds that made him famous due to releases on labels like Vinyl Club, Lick My Deck or Amphia. His two solo albums Intr-O Seara Organica... (2009) and Gr?dina Oniric? (2012), both released on [a:rpia:r] the record label he initiated with his buddies Rhadoo and Raresh in 2007, do not have much in common with the sound of Vin Ploile - a mesmerizing deeply musical album that he only tuned in with some elements of piano, string and wind instruments as well as analog electronics. At the end of 2015, his nine slow-swinging arrangements were celebrated in many polls and now, just a bit more than one year after the release of Vin Ploile, Inspirescu delivers Vîntul Prin Salcii, another album enlarged with seven to twelve minute long arrangements, continuing where Vin Ploile ceased. They all listen to the name "Miroslav" and only differ numerically in their title. You can call them ambient. You can call them minimal music in the sense of classic compositions by Steve Reich or Terry Riley. They groove - sometimes more, sometimes less. They spread the sounds of flutes or saxophones, delicate piano figures, organic jazz drumming, arpeggiated analog synth-lines, mesmerizing strings, choral singing, alienated looped vocals, and spaced-out new aged spheres. What unites them all is the way, the melodies dance upon and in each single tune. Their beautiful textures ensnare and they are continuously engaged with experimentation. Vîntul Prin Salcii is a mystical album full of evolutionary music to which each listener is able to paint their very own emotional picture - moody, dark and at the same time light-flooded, shape-shifting compositions. JOWE HEAD Cabinet Of Curios 2LP
RSD 2017 release. Cabinet Of Curios is the first ever career-spanning compilation of the solo work of Jowe Head, an essential name in the birth and development of the UK's underground scene. From 1981 debut album Pincer Movement up to 2014 recordings by Jowe Head and The Demi-Monde, plus previously unreleased tracks, these 20 cuts present Head's wonderful mixture of off-kilter pop and avant-garde weirdness, like a noise party attended by Joe Meek, Burt Bacharach and Sun Ra. "If one looks at the galaxy of stars that can be attributed as source material for today's musical DIY/lo-fi generation, Jowe Head shines as a true iconoclast. His 1973 addition to the avant-garage godfathers Swell Maps added an impressionistic edge to their psychedelic punk pastiche that drew of Max Ernst as ably as Can. Later on in The Television Personalities and his Househunters and Palookas projects, not to mention a sprawling solo discography, Jowe's persona injected color and livelihood into an often-too-cool-for-school post-punk scene around Britain while still delivering transportative sounds and open-to-the-listener interpretations. This compendium is in itself a galaxy of sounds that will never fail to deliver." --Brian Turner, WFMU Music Director

ADELE H Civilization LP
Civilization, the debut album by Italian singer-songwriter Adele H, represents four years of thoughts, ideas, and melodies. Adele H is the solo music project of Adele Pappalardo, a singer-songwriter who uses just her voice and a Brazilian tambourine (and occasionally other percussion instruments) to create primordial experimental pop songs. The essential instrumentation creates primitive layers of music where the theme of spiritual awakening is celebrated. Each track was composed on several occasions in the space of four years, during which Adele left a stable job in Milan, Italy ("Everything Is Changing") to travel to America for three months, where she lived in Oakland. During those years she also read essays on civilization (especially Zerzan, Diamond) and expanded her understanding of Difference Feminism, Queer Theories, and Buddhist Philosophies. Civilization contains all these themes which have become a part of Adele H's artistic journey. The album traces a handful of years where Adele H experienced an awakening from a routine life in the city and represents a journey of liberation from societal coercions. This is most evident on the second track "Dogmas": a manifesto which states the desire to not be defined anymore, by anyone. At the same time, the appreciation for the little things in life is the vital statement which makes up Civilization; moments of solitude and rest in the woods after working for many hours in a mountain shelter in Italy. "This Silence" celebrates the nature which surrounded her after work, one late summer day. "Once A Day" tells the moment of an incredible sunrise that she admired from atop Cistella Mountain. The song reminds, that despite each of us alive on the planet, everywhere in the world (whether or not witnessed) there are great spectacles of nature (sunrises and sunsets), free sublime moments are happening continuously. Another big artistic breakthrough for Adele H was being part of the Civic Choir of Milan, where for a year she sang music in Latin with an 80 member choir. During that year Adele became dedicated to studying choral music. "I Wish I Was" was born out of her experiences with this sacred music and through the state of ego abolition that exists when singing as part of a choir. "Sun Walker" features Grant Corum."She builds small cathedrals made of interwoven voices, rhythmic sighs and breaths that become soundscapes, sound hypnosis. . . . Visionary. We await her debut full length LP Civilization with great anticipation." --Stefan Pifferi, SentireAscoltare, 2017"A new name overlooks the experimental Italian scene, a feminine presence that uses an ancient language of intuition and spontaneity." --Roberto Mandolini, Rockerilla, April 2017"It reminds of some church music, a liturgy suspended between sacred and profane! She seemed a promise and we weren't wrong. A more than gratifying debut album." --Gino Dal Soler, Blow Up, April 2017

REVOLUTIONARY ARMY OF THE INFANT JESUS Mirror LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Occultation present a reissue of Revolutionary Army Of The Infant Jesus's second album Mirror, originally released in 1991. Mirror was originally a CD-only release on Probe Plus. Mirror is possibly RAIJ's most diverse and eclectic collection. In addition to their signature blend of ethereal beauty and stark brutalism, the album burrows deep into the European psyche with multiple musical, literary, and spiritual allusions. The samples and field recordings on the album include dialogue from classic experimental cinema, medieval Spanish poets, and the dying strains of Albanian and East German propaganda broadcasts. Occultation's decision to re-release Mirror comes after the commercial and critical success of Beauty Will Save the World (LOGOS7DF 042CD/LP, 2015) and a resurgence of interest in the work of the Liverpool-based collective who continue to defy musical categorization. New artwork featuring a painting by Liverpool-based artist, filmmaker, and photographer Paul Mellor. It depicts the opening frame of the film Mirror, by RAIJ's longstanding muse Andrei Tarkovsky. Leslie Hampson on the reissue: "To come back to Mirror after so long, it almost feels like a new release. We are also delighted that through our collaboration with Occultation we are in dialogue with a different and more diverse audience." KENNEDY, SOPHIA Sophia Kennedy LP
LP version. Includes download code. DJ Koze introduces Sophia Kennedy - the self-titled, stunning debut album by 26 year old wonderwoman Sophia Kennedy. Elegant, melancholic, sometimes menacing, with smoldering piano melodies, desolately whistling organs, and a jaunty jaw's harp loop; kissed by the golden Californian sun, or shrouded in gloomy, dreary fog: Sophia Kennedy is currently the most versatile composer in German pop music - not to mention the greatest singer. Her self-titled debut album reveals her as a dramatic romanticist and distanced diseuse, as a deft lyricist and master of melody. In her eleven songs, she travels from doo-wop to dubstep, from classic crooning to breathless R'n'B, from Frank Sinatra to Beyoncé. Her talent for songwriting is deeply rooted in history, yet it seeks nothing but the present: both historically versed and timelessly beautiful at the same time. All tracks have been produced by Sophia Kennedy and Mense Reents (who is known as being a member of Die Vögel, Egoexpress, Die Goldenen Zitronen).

Music for pipe organ Stiehr-Mockers 1848, bird calls, baroque violin, tin whistle, boîtes à bourdons, landscape piano, motorized bow, Standuino Pi synth, microphones, hurgy toys, AM radio, church bells, uilleann pipes, and hulusi. Pancrace is an improvising quintet comprising French, British, and Austrian performers. The members include Prune Bécheau, Arden Day, Julien Desailly, Léo Maurel, and Jan Vysocky. Pancrace is also the name of the church in Dangolsheim Alsace located next to where the instrument inventor Léo Maurel lives. Maurel makes ingeniously designed instruments inspired by the hurdy gurdy. The recording emerged from a disruption of the traditional elements within the church, namely the church organ which was prepared inside out whilst the performers challenged its gregarious authority with an array of constructed and modified instruments. On Pancrace, one can hear many of these shape-shifting instruments and devices being twiddled without quite knowing which are bowed, plucked, hammered, or rubbed. The results are a maelstrom of sound and song which see-saw between the harrowing and the sublime with incredible detail to sonic content. Pancrace instigates proceedings in the confinement of an organ; a cyclops puffing its continuous and raucous breath only to be woken by instruments who, like horseflies, mischievously start tormenting proceedings with microtones and striated polyrhythms. The journey ends four sides later with the language of the birds imposing an unadorned silence on the church. Edition of 500.

SAND Golem (Silver and Black Vinyl) LP
RSD 2017 release. There is something magical and inexplicable about creation, and Sand manifest absolutely these mysterious phenomena. Storytellers, musicians, shamans, geniuses, Sand were known, at the end of the '60s, as P.O.T. (Part Of Time). Then Sand - Ludwig Papenberg and his brother Ullrich, and Johannes Vester - developed a more avant-gardist, proto-industrial, visionary experimental approach, a truly unique entity in the history of music. Not dependent on a classical "krautrock" style, Sand is nevertheless part of this movement of German cosmic/psychedelic bands, as well as being the originators of proto-industrial music. Golem, originally released in 1974, is a legendary album from the cosmic and psychedelic genius that is Sand. Factory-noise, riveting hammers from the dockyards, agricultural machines, starfighters low-level flights, land maneuver by the British Forces in the mountainous countryside along the winding river were the culture medium for extended sound aesthetics. Sand was born and created the Golem. Comes in a metallic sleeve cover; Comes on 200 gram silver and black vinyl; Edition of 700.

PARRENIN, EMMANUELLE Maison Rose LP
RSD 2017 release. Late addition. Souffle Continu Records present a reissue of Emmanuelle Parrenin's Maison Rose, originally released in 1977. An album such as this obviously owes a lot to the atmosphere in which it was recorded. It took place in Fromentel, Normandy, in a farm converted into a studio by the producer Jacques Denjean, known for his work with Dionne Warwick or Françoise Hardy, as well as having been a member of the Double Six. It was also in Fromentel that Denjean would record two fantastic albums with Albert Marcoeur. When Emmanuelle Parrenin followed in his footsteps a year later, she was in good company: the sound engineer at the studio was her partner. Five years before, Bruno Menny, the sound engineer partner, recorded his first and only album, but what an album: in electroacoustic terms we can hear things which make him appear as the spiritual son of his mentor Xenakis. What makes Maison Rose unique is exactly this fusion between the two conceptions of Emmanuelle Parrenin and Bruno Menny, creating a perfect marriage of tradition and experimentation. The tradition comes from the songs collected by Emmanuelle Parrenin in rural areas, in a similar vein to the work carried out by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins. The experimentation is in the sound captured by Bruno Menny, who both arranged and recorded the album. This is not to forget those who came with their guitar (Denis Gasser), or their lyrics (Jean-Claude Vannier). Humble and non-demonstrative singing, with melodies are reminiscent of songs to calm a child's nightmares, side-by-side with a pronounced rhythmic intensity at certain points, such as on "Topaze" where the drums in particular evoke the motorik of Faust. A real haven of peace, Maison Rose is enchanting with its aura of mystery and spirituality, with soft, gentle songs which seem both ancestral and futurist. Originally published by Ballon Noir in 1977, this album follows on from other folk marvels such as Le Galant Noyé (1975) from the pre-Mélusine period. If comparisons had to be risked, Vashti Bunyan, Linda Perhacs, Joanna Newsom, Collie Ryan, Shirley Collins, Trees Community, Sourdeline, and Véronique Chalot would come to mind. High definition remastered audio from the original master tapes. Licensed from Emmanuelle Parrenin. Includes four-page booklet on 200gsm art paper, including liner notes by Archie Patterson and Maxime Delcourt. Gatefold LP; Obi strip; Pink vinyl; Edition of 700.

PARRENIN, EMMANUELLE Perelandra LP
RSD 2017 release. Late addition. It was some line up, even for the most open-minded: Emmanuelle Parrenin and her musicians, in 1981, opened for the Clash in Paris, at the Zénith! Unsurprisingly, the crowd roared the name of the English band as soon as the French musicians appeared on stage. Didier Malherbe responded with a saxophone improvisation with all the others joining in behind. If we believe the musician improvising, rather than following the cult playlist of 1977's Maison Rose (FFL 024LP), was what saved them. Created from previously unpublished recordings from 1978, 1981, and 1982, Pérélandra is a wonderful array of the experiments so unique to Emmanuelle Parrenin. Rather than being improvised, like the legendary show at the Zénith, these experimental tracks have a more composed instrumental form and were conceived for choreographers: mainly Pérélandra, staged with dancers from Carolyn Carlson's troupe, but also Nomade, some of the sonic environment of which can be discovered here in (superb) bits and pieces found on cassettes. In total, just under a dozen tracks are presented, including contributions on bandoneon from the Argentinian Juan José Mosalini, electric piano from the ex-Double Six Jacques Denjean, or elsewhere great electroacoustic work from the wonderful and ever-faithful Bruno Menny. All of this steeped in a sonic mix typical of the most way-out acid-folk freak-outs of the 1970s. Didier Malherbe (who just before was still playing in Gong with Daevid Allen) is on three tracks, his heady graceful agility instantly identifiable, adding to a magical and spiritual universe created with spinet dulcimer, flute, hurdy-gurdy, and other-worldly vocals (amongst other ingredients). Though very difficult to label, Pérélandra could evoke a meeting between Trees Community, Heron and Robin Williamson with Ellen Fullman, Meredith Monk and Ligeti. The whole thing is steeped in an atmosphere as intense as the ecstatic hymns of Hildegard von Bingen. Licensed from Emmanuelle Parrenin. Includes four-page booklet on 200gsm art paper, including liner notes by Emmanuelle Parrenin and Archie Patterson. Obi strip; Green Vinyl; Edition of 700.

VA Contaminazioni No Wave Italiane (1980-1985) LP+CD
Taking up the gauntlet thrown down by New York's no wave scene, many Italian bands of the early '80s, playing far from the footlights of the world's stage, began creating compelling, and often cutting edge, hybrid sounds. This kind of experimenting soon went viral along the entire peninsula: from Southern Italy to the Alps, creating a brave new Italian take on post-punk. From the nervous white funk of Neopolitans Bisca, to the instrumental explorations of Confusional Quartet, to the "fake jazz" of the Hi-Fi Bros (who even had a track produced by Arto Lindsay), to Band Aid, this collection testifies to one of the most creative periods of the Italian underground. Also features: Eazycon, Modern Model, Die Form, Funkwagen, Nofun, Hakkah, Illogico, Rinf, and State Of Art. Includes CD; CD features the previously unreleased bonus track by La Maison, "Noise Express".

VA Guitars of the Golden Triangle: Folk and Pop Music from Myanmar (Burma) Vol 2 2LP
RSD 2017 release. Limited double LP vinyl gatefold edition of the long out-of-print CD from 2005 compiled by Alan Bishop. Never before presented or heard outside a minority of the Burmese community, this unbelievable collection of raw garage rock, psychedelia, folk, blues, and country music is a product of Shan and Pa'o musicians hailing from Myanmar's largest province of Shan State - an area larger than the entire state of New York expanding across sub-tropic tablelands with an average elevation of 3000 feet, perfect for the cultivation of poppies for which it is very well known (in fact and fiction) as the center of the "Golden Triangle". Discover the music of Lashio Thein Aung (AKA "Jimmy Jack" and the "Burmese Texan"), Khun Paw Yann (a "Black Shan" Pa'o rocker), and Saing Saing Maw - the original Shan legend who wrote and sang garage psych rock songs, backed by a tight unit of organ, bass, drums, and perhaps the most stinging electric guitar in Burmese history. There is little reliable information about these mysterious pioneers and many Burmese have never heard any of these tracks. The tracks on this double LP set are from the 1970s and 1980s and are almost impossible to find in any form or quality. They were transferred directly from old cassette tapes and a few cuts have dropouts (some of them quite severe). Most of the master tapes are thought to have been lost or destroyed many years ago so these recordings may be the only link to a phenomenal and forgotten era of Southeast Asian music history and therefore essential for anyone interested in folk, rock and pop styles from lesser-known regions of the globe. Also features: Khun Kan Chwain, Khun Kaung Kay Maung, Nan Phin Sar, and Khun Hla Maung Law.

PIN GROUP Ambivalence 7"
RSD 2017 release. "New Zealand's Pin Group emerged out of the early '80s Christchurch scene and, with just two stunning singles and one brilliant five-song EP, have become an archetype for nearly all indie bands ever since. Ambivalence was not only The Pin Group's hypnotic debut, but also the very first release on Flying Nun. While guitarist Roy Montgomery, bassist Ross Humphries and drummer Peter Stapleton build off each other's jittery riffs, Montgomery's uncanny baritone pierces the torrential clangor. Conjuring both Wire's Chairs Missing and VU's White Light/White Heat, the band captures a truly unique sound -- evocative, yet austere. Wasting little time, The Pin Group released Coat in November 1981, merely two months after their first single. On the title track, Humphries' distant vocals call out as tense rhythms gradually push listeners over the edge. B-side track 'Jim' could easily have been recorded in Manchester circa 1979, but remains a master class in NZ post-punk atmospherics, menacing from start to finish. The Pin Group went back into the studio in January 1982 to record their third and final classic release. Featuring an expanded five-piece lineup with Mary Heney on guitar/vocals and Peter Fryer on viola, Go To Town is a work of taut perfection. Showcasing the band's dramatic chiaroscuro textures and arresting lyrics, 'Long Night' and 'When I Tell You' make staggeringly clear how much sonic ground The Pin Group covered in their unfortunately short tenure. These first-time standalone reissues, featuring Ronnie van Hout's original sleeve designs, are pressed on limited edition color vinyl. Now is the time to discover again the monochrome magnetism of this unparalleled and legendary band." First-time reissue from legendary New Zealand band; Limited edition color vinyl.

CANDELILLA Camping LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Camping is the third studio album from the German band Candelilla. Candelilla were founded back in 2001 in Munich and, according to their website, were reborn when new drummer Sandra Hilpold joined the band in 2007. Since then the line-up of the quartet has remained intact with Mira Mann, Lina Seybold, Rita Argauer, and Sandra Hilpold. Candelilla has always been a more interdisciplinary collective than a mere rock band. Candelilla is known for their willingness to live above the so-called standards of German indie pop music, to push the boundaries and to survive the process. For their last album, Heart Mutter (TR 20752CD, 2013), the group traveled to Chicago to record the complete album live in the studio with Steve Albini. Heart Mutter is an intense piece of music that manages to showcase the energy and the spirit of the quartet in all its beautiful rawness. Like a riot squad that allows no doubt that Candelilla are absolutely serious with every sound the play. Camping, their first album released on the Trocadero label, was recorded with legendary German producer Tobias Levin. The ten songs, in glittering and furious beauty, explore the possibilities of pop within the cosmos of Candelilla. They reach boundaries, detach, and observe them, but never exceed them. Camping shows a band that is so self-assured that it can reinvent itself without leaving a trace of the old. To quote Zick Zack founder Alfred Hilsberg: "Camping breaks through the Albini-developed sound cocoon and offers a dazzling look into the diversity of four individuals who confront the listener in a self-confident and brave way with their own experiences and observations. Supported by Tobias Levin, Candelilla have released a visionary and headstrong statement that evokes the discourses in the German underground scene of the eighties and nineties. Camping is a forward-looking invitation towards a new, open dimension of pop music."

LOVO, ALFONSO NOEL Terremoto Richter 6:25 - Managua LP
RSD 2017 release. On December 23, 1972, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.25 on the Richter scale devastated Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Thirty deadly seconds were enough to destroy the center of the city and cause a death toll of 19,000 people, with 20,000 injured. The aftershocks and fires caused by the disaster exacerbated the situation. In the world of art, the inspirational power of great tragedies is widely known; artists leverage the excess negative energy to generate and transform it into pure creativity and beauty. Alfonso Noel Lovo, a young Nicaraguan musician, studied at the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1973. New Orleans, is only an hour from LSU; Alfonso planned to record his ideas there over free weekends. Alfonso "Poncho" Lovo was a member of a well-known family in Nicaragua, a clan of livestock owners involved in big business. Son of the Minister of Agriculture and later triumvir of the Government Assembly, he was on a plane returning to his native land when it was hijacked in 1971 by a Sandinista group. He was recognized in mid-flight by one of the hijackers and used as a hostage to negotiate the release of a political prisoner. Alfonso Lovo was shot several times. Miraculously he survived, albeit seriously wounded in the torso, abdomen, and left hand. After several life-threatening operations, Alfonso Lovo returned to New Orleans, the place where all his influences and intense experiences would crystalize into his passionate first album: Terremoto Richter 6:25 - Managua (1973). The recordings come from late night sessions during the weekends. Improvisation predominates. The studio owner, Tracy Borges, helped him to get session musicians like Michael, flautist and sax player for Bourbon Street. The New Orleans female soul choir also features on the record. Poncho recruited Silvio Lacayo on acoustic guitar, Cristóbal, a Colombian timbales player, and Marcos Ostrander, a conga player from Panama. Terremoto is a marvel of essences; it distils freshness, ingenuity, and the desire to experiment with limited resources. Poncho took each recording home and worked on them with a TEAC 3300. He listened repeatedly to the initial tracks "to invent what to add afterwards" in the next session. Terremoto, his first record, delivers a refreshing mix of psychedelic rock, mazurka, jazz, Louisiana blues and African folk.

FERRA/PAOLINO DALLA PORTA/FABRIZIO SFERRA, BEBO Frames Of Crimson CD
King Crimson is the most protean group of all contemporary music. For fifty years, Robert Fripp's mind has been churning out amazing ideas, inventing new sounds, revolutionizing stage ensembles, and gathering drummers. His compositions climb wild lyrical peaks to then dive into powerful bouts of metallic dissonances, ebbing into a magmatic sound wave which is in continuous evolution. It was only natural that a band, sooner or later, would rearrange these songs into jazz. It had to be a curious, courageous and somewhat reckless band, skilled in experimenting with sounds and styles. The trio of Bebo Ferra, Fabrizio Sferra, and Paolino Dalla Porta, with special guest Gianluca Petrella, has all these qualities (and many more) and has drilled into Fripp's acclaimed and intricate works, delving into the soul of each one and embarking on unexplored soundscapes. They have gone off the beaten track, in the footsteps of a pioneer, becoming forerunners themselves in bringing Fripp's music elsewhere. "Abandon all certainty, ye who enter here." Personnel: Bebo Ferra - guitar; Paolino Dalla Porta - doublebass; Fabrizio Sferra - drums; Gianluca Petrella - trombone.

LEGUAY, YANN Headcrash 12"
Yann Leguay is a Brussels-based French Artist. His approach to sound design for installation, performance, and film centers on the materiality of sound. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and festival in Europe and beyond and has composed soundtracks for films. Yann Leguay's work focuses on everything around sound. By modifying the reality of the material (as sounds or real objects) he affects the sensibility of the viewer, changing the perception and relation with materiality. By deconstructing the elements of this human need, he gives an overview and a distance on the global relation we have with objects and memory.
