HEARTLESS Inner Crosstalk 12"
Inner Crosstalk see's Heartless finding inspiration in his own anxieties and fears. Heartless manages to mature his already distinctive sound through experimentations in unconventional tunings and microtonality, creating something truly original and otherworldly. Conceived in the isolation of the Welsh countryside, Inner Crosstalk doesn't find influence in anything other than the battle between Heartless's positive and negative meditations of the human form. Claustrophobic, sinister, and hauntingly introspective, Heartless has produced an EP for anyone who has ever found doubt in their own abilities whilst pushing the boundaries set in his previous release Impulse Model (126D 003EP, 2017).

HAYES QUARTET, TUBBY What Is This Thing Called Love?: Live at The Hopbine 1969 LP
"This is the first vinyl LP release from the Acrobat label, and it features, unreleased 'live' recording from 1969 by one of the greatest of all British jazzmen, tenor saxophonist Tubby Hayes, performing at one of London's most popular jazz venues, the Hopbine pub in Wembley, where Tubby's fellow tenor player Tommy Whittle used to run a weekly jazz night. He was playing there with his regular quartet comprising Mike Pyne (piano); Ron Mathewson (bass); Spike Wells (drums), and the LP features two extended pieces, one on each side of the LP. After hitting a career low point in 1968 as a result of his heroin addiction, he was rebuilding his health and career and had thrown himself into a punishing round of 'live' work and recording, and was looking for new musical challenges, as the music landscape was evolving rapidly around him, and contemporary musicians were pushing boundaries of their own with psychedelia and progressive rock. He was still in vibrant form and still a master of the kind of hard bop tear-up exhibited in parts of these performances, and still able to find a new way of approaching a standard like 'What Is This Thing Called Love?', as well as introduce his own compositions like 'For Members Only'. However, this was one of the final performances of this kind by the quartet, as it was only a month later that he collapsed and was hospitalized -- the beginning of the health issues which would bring about his demise in 1973. As such it is an important musical landmark, as he saw out the '60s in typical style."

RILEY, TERRY Persian Surgery Dervishes 2LP
2018 repress. The classic minimal music album is now available again on vinyl for the first time since the '70s. During the 1970s, Californian composer Terry Riley concentrated on solo keyboard performances, continuing to make music yet writing down almost nothing. Riley selected a mode, chose a few motifs or basic patterns and then, seated on the floor in front of his audience, improvised on electronic keyboard. The electric organ, superseded at later concerts by a synthesizer, was portable and consistent. By the early '70s, Riley had come to feel that scores were a distraction. Faithful interpretation of an already written piece was a deviation from the true purpose of making music, which was spiritual quest. Fortunately, some of those live performances were captured on tape. Persian Surgery Dervishes, issued initially on the French label Shandar in 1972, features two such concerts for electric organ and reel-to-reel delay, one recorded in Los Angeles on April 18th, 1971, the other in Paris on May 24th, 1972. At the start of that decade, Riley became a dedicated student of the great Hindustani singer Pandit Pran Nath. Looking into North Indian classical tradition, he found correspondences to modal and cyclic ideas that he was already working on. In 1971, Riley started teaching Indian music at Mills College, in Oakland. That experience fed directly into his solo keyboard performances, but other influences were also shaping his music. Personal research into ancient Persian culture and the poetry of Rumi lit up his imagination, while the repetitive swirling of Sufi devotional music from North Africa and jazz, an enduring source of inspiration, reverberate through these performances. The Californian version of Persian Surgery Dervishes starts with low dark tones, dense and brooding like a huddled human figure, deep in introspection. But as the improvisation unfolds Riley's buoyant spirit asserts itself, spiraling out in ecstatic coils. The Parisian concert conveys a different mood, brighter and more open in texture, more relaxed from the outset and breathing with greater freedom as it takes flight. Persian Surgery Dervishes is a mesmerizing record of a vital stage in Riley's ongoing quest for connection with the universal mind and sublime music. "Music is my spiritual path. It's my way of finding out who I am." --Terry Riley, 1976 Includes insert with liner notes by Julian Cowley; Lacquer cut by Rashad Becker; Layout by Jeroen Wille; Remastered by Equusl; Licensed from FGL Productions.

AMBOLLEY, GYEDU-BLAY The Message LP
Prepare yourself for new directions in Afro-funk: Analog Africa presents the ninth release of their Limited Edition Serie. During the 1980s, Ghanaian bandleader Gyedu-Blay Ambolley began to experiment with electronic instruments, and the result was a potent mix of highlife, funk, exploratory synths and righteous vocals, the sound of a restless genius intent on pushing the traditional sounds of highlife into a brave new future. By the end of the 1970s, Ambolley was already a legendary figure on the Ghanaian music scene. He rose to prominence during the late 1960s, serving with countryman Ebo Taylor in the Stargazers and the Uhuru Dance Band before launching his own career with "Simigwa-do," the 1972 hit that propelled him to West African stardom. As a founding member of the Apagya Show Band and the Complex Soundz, he stretched the boundaries of highlife with electric instruments, funky rhythms and socially charged lyrics in Fante and English. With a new band, Zantoda Mak III, he recorded "The Message," a seven minute funk workout built on a highlife foundation, and decorated with shimmering synths. Recorded in 1980, the song became a hit that would change the direction of Ambolley's music: over the next decade, electronic instruments played a much larger role in his sonic experiments. "The Message" receives a long overdue re-release on this 12" along with three other peaks from Ambolley's eighties output. Difficult, if not impossible to find for decades, Analog Africa is proud to make Gyedu-Blay Ambolley's extraordinary eighties recordings available to a wider audience. 180 gram vinyl; silkscreen printed cover and color vinyl.

RUSSELL, ARTHUR Corn LP
2018 repress; LP version. "It has been seven years since Audika last issued an album of Arthur Russell material. The wait ends this summer with Corn, nine tracks Russell recorded in 1982 and 1983. In collaboration with Russell's partner Tom Lee, Audika's Steve Knutson compiled Corn from Arthur's original, completed 1/4" tape masters. Russell himself compiled this material on three separate test pressings -- labeled El Dinosaur, Indian Ocean, and Untitled, respectively -- in 1985. Russell fans know something of the Corn sound from Audika's debut release, Calling Out of Context (2004), which included four songs from these sessions: 'The Deer in the Forest Part 1,' 'The Platform On the Ocean,' 'Calling Out of Context,' and 'I Like You!' This new collection includes rhythmic alternate versions of 'Lucky Cloud,' 'Keeping Up,' 'See My Brother, He's Jumping Out (Let's Go Swimming #2),' 'This Is How We Walk On the Moon,' and 'Hiding Your Present From You,' along with 'Corn,' 'Corn (Continued),' 'They and Their Friends,' and the closing instrumental 'Ocean Movie,' one of the most beautiful and curious Russell tracks ever to see the light of day. With Corn, Audika reveals yet another side of Russell's staggeringly diverse artistry, following the avant-electrodisco of Calling Out of Context, and its companion EP, Springfield; the orchestral works 'Instrumentals' and 'Tower of Meaning,' compiled and released as First Thought Best Thought; the 'Buddhist Bubble Gum Pop' collected on Love Is Overtaking Me; and Russell's definitive solo masterpiece, World of Echo."

WEINGARTEN, CARL Living In The Distant Present LP
LP version. Transparent blue vinyl. Azure Vista present a reissue of Carl Weingarten's Living In The Distant Present, previously only released on cassette in 1985 on Weingarten's own Multiphase Records. The album is a rare treat for fans of guitar ambient, tape loops, and the experimental side of new age music. When Carl Weingarten is one of the unsung heroes of American minimalism. Even though he's been active for close to four decades, his work is just now starting to receive the praise it deserves. On Living Ín The Distant Present slowly shifting synth patterns is joined with his signature guitar playing -- a tranquil, stretched-out sound that blur the lines between played and processed, occasionally sonically closer to violins or flutes than guitars. Incredibly sparse and evocative, there's a tasteful zen-quality to these 12 tracks. Weingarten's compositions appear both timeless and tranquil. Living In The Distant Present bridges the gap between the most cosmic krautrock of the 1970s, the experimental American new age music from the 1980s, and modern day minimalism such as Windy & Carl and Christopher Willits. In his concern for sonic texture Weingarten's music resembles Brian Eno's ambient records, especially his collaborative efforts with Robert Fripp, where guitars are gradually looped and processed into shimmering clouds of sound.

HUDSON, KEITH Playing It Cool & Playing It Right LP
Restocked. This is the first release on Basic Channel's reggae reissue imprint, Basic Replay, founded by Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus. Keith Hudson -- as is Lloyd 'Bullwackie' Barnes, his collaborator here -- was a one-off innovator with impeccably classical lineage: his first studio recording involved former Skatalites; his earliest releases provided solid-gold hits for Ken Boothe ("Old Fashioned Way," 1967), John Holt, Delroy Wilson, U-Roy and the rest. Playing It Cool & Playing It Right was released in 1981 on NYC's Joint International label. It was originally intended that one of Hudson's teenage sons would voice the dubs: in the event the Love Joys, Wayne Jarrett, and most inimitably Hudson himself featured at the microphone. Like Wackies, Hudson was a Studio One devotee -- "I used to hold Don Drummond's trombone for him so I can be in the studio," he once recalled -- and the album follows Coxsone Dodd's strategy of overdubbing signature rhythms. The Studio One sides were aimed at the dancefloor; Hudson's reworks of tracks like "Melody Maker" are more psychological. Here deep Barrett Brothers rhythms are remixed deeper with reverb, filters and other distortion, pitched down, everything; and overlaid with new recordings, often heavily treated, of guitar, percussion, keyboard, voice. Playing It Cool & Playing It Right is legendary, strange, utterly compelling music.

AVERY, DANIEL Drone Logic 2LP
2018 repress; Double LP version. Comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes download card. This 12-track album by Daniel Avery was written and produced since the turn of 2013 and mixed with Erol Alkan at The Phantasy Sound studio in London. Like Carl Craig's More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art, Plastikman's Consumed or more recently, the work of Four Tet, this album works as a cohesive whole rather than a disparate collection of tracks. Innovative and forward-thinking, Drone Logic manages to draw influences from beyond the dancefloor via My Bloody Valentine, NEU!, and Chris Carter, while still having the techno pulse to scale the walls of any club. The wide array of plaudits and early adopters of Avery's music is proof of this, ranging from acid house legends like The Chemical Brothers, Andrew Weatherall and Richie Hawtin to the best of the new breed in Maya Jane Coles, James Holden, and Factory Floor. Firmly established as one of the UK's most exciting new DJ/producers, having cut his teeth in Weatherall's Shoreditch studio bunker, Drone Logic follows up Avery's universally-acclaimed mix CD for London clubbing institution Fabric where he remains a resident, recent remixes for Primal Scream, The Horrors, and Django Django and 2012's Need Electric and Water Jump EPs on Alkan's Phantasy label.

LODEMANN, ANDRE The Deeper You Go 2LP
Over the last decade Andre Lodemann, a regular in the world-wide underground dance-scene has released on many prolific labels, including Freerange, Room With A View, DFTD, and Innervisions. Come 2018 Lodemann is now releases his album The Deeper You Go on his own label Best Works Records. He started working on it in 2012, taking his time for his emotional artistic approach with a lot of attention to detail. The album successfully walks the imaginary spectrum of deep house, tech house, and techno also taking dives into other waters. Where his previous long-player Fragments (BWRLP 001CD, 2012) was a compilation of past works, The Deeper You Go is his first artist album containing everything a listener would want to hear both in a club and at home. You can feel that the tracks where created out of the same mold. There's a mood, a common thread and a story through the works. The album is dark in a subtle way and yet has that positive vibe and aggressiveness to it. The Deeper You Go is mostly instrumental with two features by the British singer and songwriter Huw Costin, bandleader of Torn Sail. Lodemann's sound is deep, warm but aggressive at the same time. It explores the less chartered end of the soundscape. His songs generally feel like a narrative. It builds and grows as the song progresses and climax past the halfway rewarding you for your time invested. At the climax the tracks sometimes morph into what feels like a whole new song. This is his signature sound. The album starts with "The Deeper You Go" and "Emptiness" -- these two opening tracks follow the Lodemann formula to the tee. They are perfect as opening and introductory tracks as they set a deep mood for the rest of the album. Moving onward "Metamorphosis", a hard but soulful techno track that shatters the stereotype of what techno should sound like, crossing genre-borders. With the track "Lost In Your Eyes" he goes in a different direction using an aboriginal sounding horn, accompanied by a bassline, both together create an uplifting but also scary mood. "Birth" was released in 2017 and it feels raw and reminiscent of his earlier works. The collaborations with Huw Costin of Torn Sail complement Andre Lodemann style of production: In "Treasure" the two artists find perfect balance where the beat builds in between and around the vocals. "Misty Road" is a flowing bass-heavy ambient track that perfectly closes the album. The Deeper You Go is Andre Lodemann's artistic vision of modern electronic music using all possible means to create emotional sound sculptures.

SUNNY & THE SUNLINERS Get Down/Cross My Heart 7"
"Following the success of the extensive reissue project that we did with Sunny's & The Sunliners, (2017's Mr Brown Eyed Soul compilation, Smile Now, Cry Later & Missing Link full length reissues, and 2018's reissue of Little Brown Eyed Soul LP) we bring you another must have 7 inch offering from his catalogue. Side A is Sunny's cover of 'Get Down', one of the rarest and hardest tunes from his extensive discography. Only appearing on a Key Loc 45 and very rarely showing up in decent condition, if at all, it lives mostly on funk collector's want lists. Although they have covered James Brown, Hugh Masekela, and The Meters this is commonly agreed to be the funkiest thing they've ever cut. Side B is their version of the Billy Stewart classic 'Cross My Heart', a tune even some of the most diehard Sunny fans seem to have not known existed prior to the Mr Brown Eyed Soul compilation. A sweet soul classic recently made popular again via Jay Electronica's Just Blaze produced underground hit 'Exhibit C', which sampled the Stewart version. Collectors and music lovers alike will be happy to see this song available on 7" format for the first time ever."

OROZA, BOBBY This Love/Should I Take You Home 7"
"With their full length getting wrapped up now, Big Crown Records is proud to present the debut single from Finland's own Bobby Oroza. Side A, 'This Love' is already an underground classic, and has been a huge hit with the sweet soul crowd since its original release last year on Timmion Records. Produced by Cold Diamond & Mink and recorded at Timmion Studios in Helsinki, Finland, this team has clearly got the magic. With its tough drums, maverick guitar work, in the cut bass, and Bobby's calm yet pleading monotone vocals, this is one hell of a song and an absolute must have for soul collectors. Side B is the never before heard and very well executed homage to Sunny & The Sunliners classic song, 'Should I Take You Home'. Bobby takes the task of covering a near perfect tune and does it justice by making it their own while never losing sight of the magic that makes Sunny's original so sublime. This is going to take the sweet soul crowd by storm and is a perfect follow up to the already beloved, 'This Love'. Another Big Crown sure shot."

BOOKA SHADE Galvany Street (Dolby Atmos Mixes) BLU-RAY AUDIO
Beginning of 2017 Booka Shade released the most challenging album of their career, Galvany Street (BFMB 033CD/DLX-CD/LP). Not only did it take much longer than any of their previous albums to complete, it also meant the most radical shift in musical direction. Arno Kammermeier on the record: "Galvany Street is the album we wanted to write for a long time. The collaboration with Craig Walker brings in the perfect kind of vocals to complete the music." As a result, Galvany Street marks the most important Booka Shade album since the release of their milestone album Movements (2006). The album feature Craig Walker, Daniel Spencer, Yates, and Urdur. A new level of production quality meets a cutting-edge mix of '80s and '90s pop references and modern beats and sounds. In the past couple of months Fritz Hilpert, a friend of the band and member of legendary electronic pioneers Kraftwerk, who just won the Grammy 2018 for "Best Dance/Electronic Album", started to work on Dolby Atmos mixes of the album, which take the songs quite literally to a new sonic dimension. Dolby Atmos is a relatively new audio format for creating and playing back multichannel movie soundtracks. It was developed to give movie sound a more three-dimensional effect. All album tracks, plus the bonus track "Just Like Tonight", are presented in this unique 3D experience on Pure Audio BluRay, accompanied by Headphone Surround 3D mixes for headphones and super high quality stereo files in 24bit/48 kHz. The disc is compatible with all BluRay players.

MORRICONE, ENNIO Duello Nel Texas LP
2012 release. Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, issues Ennio Morricone's complete original soundtrack, in mono, for the 1963 western movie Duello Nel Texas ("Gunfight At The Red Sands"). Directed in 1963 by Ricardo Blasco and starring Richard Harrison, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, and Mikaela. The village of Carteville on the border to Mexico is in danger from a mysterious and dangerous gang of thugs. One night the band assaults the house of a Mexican family, including an orphan of American nationality adopted by Don Diego and known by all as "El Gringo". The gang kills the householder and steals the gold the family has at home. The man eventually discovers the true identity of the criminals. One against all, "El Gringo" succeeds with cunning and courage in liberating the town from the presence of evildoers forever. For this film Ennio Morricone has signed his first western score ever, just one year before the global success of Per Un Pugno Di Dollari (aka "A Fistful of Dollars") by Sergio Leone. Although still far from his musical style which is internationally known for this kind of genre, the then 35 years old Ennio Morricone composed a strong symphonic score featuring the main theme song "A Gringo Like Me" (both the performance of Peter Tevis and the alternate one of Dicky Jones appear here) which gets reprised with exciting instrumental versions, alternated with saloon music, highly dramatic orchestral passages full of tension, music for wild rides, romantic, and epic sequences. Previously only the song performed by the voice of Peter Tevis and a suite of just under five minutes were issued on a C.A.M. compilation. This project has been fully approved by Morricone who with his great friendship helped in the making of a release which is much awaited from all his fans around the world. 180 gram vinyl.

CIPRIANI, STELVIO Poliziotto Sprint LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Digitmovies present the first issue of Stelvio Cipriani's complete by original soundtrack for the 1977 film Poliziotto Sprint ("Convoy Busters"). Originally, C.A.M. had released a single with two tracks, "Speed Machine" and "Crazy Town". But thanks to the stereo master tapes from the recording session, Digitmovies had the opportunity to assemble a release with the entire fabulous original soundtrack. Stelvio Cipriani managed to describe the character of Agent Palma perfectly through music. Palma is a true "stuntman" in his fight against crime and Cipriani composed a cheerful score which also gives a sense of urban reality with its tangled jungle full of dangers. The rhythms and the typical sound of the Moog synthesizer of the late seventies create the right atmosphere, which is a pleasure for the listener who dives back in time and can imagine the daring exploits of the protagonist. Cipriani also manages to lighten up the serious battle between the good cop and the criminal with a sweet love theme introduced and then developed throughout the film. The city life with its chaotic traffic and hectic pace are emphasized by a long piece of large wind orchestra jazz and blues called "Crazy Town" (which was on the B side of the single) and is also found in its short version. This original soundtrack is a great addition to the archive devoted to the film music by legendary Stelvio Cipriani.

For the CD reissue, Digitmovies found the stereo master tapes from the original album and the complete master tapes from the original recording sessions which include both stereo and mono mixes. GRANO, ROMOLO Ho Incontrato Un'ombra LP
Digitmovies present a reissue of Romolo Grano's original soundtrack for Ho Incontrato Un'ombra, originally released in 1974. A rare LP from the world of 1970s Italian cult TV. Ho Incontrato Un'ombra ("I Have Met a Shadow) was broadcast by RAI Television in Italy in 1974. The success of this screenplay was also due to the soundtrack written by Romolo Grano. The main theme "A Blue Shadow" became a record and radio hit thanks to composer Berto Pisano's evocative orchestral arrangement which was released on the EP single (along with "Tema di Silvia") (1974). The leitmotif was also included on an LP under the same label (also containing other songs not related to the background music of this TV series). The true original soundtrack of Ho Incontrato Un'ombra only came out on a promotional album under RCA's label Pegaso, with Grano's music beautifully arranged and conducted by Berto Pisano. Fortunately, Digitmovies managed to recover the stereo master in excellent condition which had been assembled in the '70s for the limited-edition audio vinyl. It's one of the rarest recordings on the collector's market. The master tape includes virtually everything that had been recorded for the TV series and which was re-edited in different scenes. The sad and romantic main theme with a hint of mystery is introduced and is reprised in a nostalgic guitar piece and again with electronic harpsichord. This beautiful main theme is alternated with danceable lounge music and suspense, as well as with the sad and sensual "Tema Di Silvia" for sax and orchestra. The recording session featured two extraordinarily gifted soloists: Oscar Valdambrini on trumpet and Edda Dell'Orso with her incredibly beautiful voice, an orchestral instrument in all respects. 180 gram vinyl; Edition of 250.

The myth's version chosen to illustrate the songs in this compilation, whispers that the figure of this fire remains alive in the shape of intelligence and cleverness. Technology split us apart while allowing us to own the sounds of nature, to transform them, to travel in time within the 20th century using all sorts of folk instruments, assembling mezzo-sopranos coming down from orchestras high up in the sky, with the most virtuous percussionists in the Spanish music scene. Who would have told the sailor man that he would be dancing to down-tempo with his loved one, who is leaning on the balcony waiting for him. This compilation is a deep scream from modern gods; the flame that is still alive in this new century. I couldn't be more thankful to Lord Guardado (Discómanos) for relying on me for the selection of songs, for being this project's cornerstone and engine, as well as to all the artists who agreed to be part of it."

HAYNES, ROY Cymbalism LP
Down At Dawn present a reissue of Roy Haynes's Cymbalism, originally released in 1963. A very rare album by one of the master drummers in modern jazz. Recorded by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder in 1963, Cymbalism is among the albums that Roy Haynes provided for Prestige's New Jazz series. This session finds the drummer leading an acoustic quartet with Frank Strozier (alto sax, flute), Ronnie Mathews (piano), and Larry Ridley (bass). An unpredictable hard bop-post bop transition album bearing different colors and moods. From Charlie Parker's primary influence through some sort of Coltranish expanded sound. Without forgetting to mention a both unexpected and welcomed funky soul-jazz number as ending track. Edition of 300.

CONFORCE PRES. SILENT HARBOUR Noctiluca LP
Conforce returns under his Silent Harbour guise for the Noctiluca mini-LP, a six-track collection released via Copenhagen's Echocord. Dutch producer Boris Bunnik has been releasing material under various guises over the past two decades such as Conforce, Versalife, Hexagon, Vernon Felicity, and of course Silent Harbour which he revisits here following 2015's Hinterland on Deep Sound Channel and the self-tilted inauguration of the project in 2012 on Echocord (ECHO 012CD). The beatless drones of "Riparian" open the package, perfectly setting the tone with murky bell like chimes, rumbling subs, and splashes of white noise before title-track "Noctiluca" picks up the pace, tipping the focus over to bubbling dub echoes, glitched-out minute percussion, and a sturdy muted kick to keep things driving. "Dwelling" is up next, featuring expansive, washed-out synth textures, cavernous bass tones, and modulating percussion throughout. Leading on the B side of the release is "Peridinum", employing classic dub techno tropes with an amalgamation of choppy stab sequences dynamically evolving over off-beat hats and a thunderous kick. "Fusiformis" strips things rhythmically whilst keeping the bubbling delays and expansive reverbs at its core before closing track "Pelagia" brings bright, resonant synth lines, delayed percussive hits, and tension-building synth bass into the limelight.

ODEON Galaxies LP
Repressed. Galaxies is the debut album from Odeon, the union of two couple of Roman brothers -- Luciano and Valerio, Giacomo and Michele -- who are not easily defined. Take the mellow melodies of Talk Talk and the celestial guitar riffs of Cocteau Twins bound together with some heavy Goblin-inspired basslines and you'll be close to picturing Odeon's signature sound. Drawing from '70s Italian B-movie soundtracks, psychedelic rock, and early '80s new wave, and combining analog synths, dreamy guitars, melancholy vocoder, and drum machine-driven percussion, Odeon put together a debut album that sounds fresh and classic at the same time. Ethereal and mesmerizing, Galaxies is the perfect soundtrack for a sonic journey through dying stars and forbidden planets. 180 gram vinyl; Gatefold sleeve.

FUTUROPACO Futuropaco LP
LP version. Futuropaco's debut album is the shape of things to come: it's a wet, enigmatic cocktail of part 1970s Italian library music, part kraut-alicious, beat-galore, and part riff-driven heavy psych. Justin Pinkerton, from Oakland, California, is the one-man army behind the opaque merge of seemingly different forces: from mad fuzz guitar breakdowns à la Morricone at his most intense, to the syncopated drum learnings of Jaki Liebezeit, Justin weaves a blanket of sound that's simply loaded with deep vibes: From heavily modulate Moog synths, gentle glockenspiel through amplified echo-perplexion. You almost forget that Justin's main instrument is actually the drums -- if it wasn't for the superb loaded-yet-understated grooves tying everything together in an intricate tangle. With a background as drummer and composer in famed psych-rockers Golden Void, Justin also works as a full-time film composer for library and commercial music. Futuropaco is the meeting between his two passions: it's a vivid sonic dream where abstraction melts with the strict, focused approach of cinematic cues. It almost makes you forget the murky future of America these days, which was the catalyst for this album and its title. Imminent dystopia never felt this grounded, bright and uplifting. Freedom fuzz!

NOYES AND OWEN MAERCKS WITH HENRY KAISER AND GREG GOODMAN, CHARLES K. Free Mammals LP
"Reissue of an exceptional album of improvisations, recorded when percussionist Charles K. Noyes was lured to the Bay Area in the summer of 1979 by Henry Kaiser. Noyes and Maercks had played regularly as a duo when Owen was still based in Worcester, MA. But he'd shifted his ass westward in the wake of the Teenage Sex Therapist session (FTR 153-2LP), which had been organized by Kaiser following their collaborations in the band, Monster Island. Half of the album was recorded live at Woody Woodman's Finger Palace, with Kaiser on guitar and Greg Goodman on piano. The web of cluttered notes and interwoven melodic lines they created that night was incredible. And the duo studio session a few days later was massive as well. Free Mammals has long been a notoriously scarce document in the history of the West Coast's free music scene of the late '70s. And the album (nominally released on Owen's Visible label, although everything was handled by Charles) almost always sounded as though it had been pressed onto concrete. With the help of Jeremy Pisani and Carl Saff, we have attempted to present this extraordinary music with the best sonics possible. And it sounds mighty dandy. There is also a liner note insert, as well as full size repros of two fliers from both the show at which this was partially recorded, and also a subsequent trio set with Noyes/Kaiser/Goodman. They will look fine on your wall, should to choose to thus deface them. Regardless. Count your lucky stars and dive in. All of your dreams are about to come true." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 500.

FLAHERTY & CHRIS CORSANO, PAUL The Hated Music 2LP
"Hard to believe it has been 18 years since this set was first issued, but that's what the calendar says. Paul and Chris had been playing together for a while before this. I seem to recall rehearsals outdoors in Hartford beneath stretches of raised highway under construction. But that may have been Chris and Pete Nolan, back when Pete played guitar. Who can remember exactly? It's been a long time. But I do remember we put this set together because it seemed essential to document how amazing the communication was between these two musicians, from different generations, but tuned into the same insane frequency. When we told Paul we wanted to do it on the Ecstatic Yod label, with art by Gary Panter, and actual liner notes, he thought it wasn't the best idea he'd ever heard, but what the hell. The actual hope of the label was to raise the profile of this incredibly talented but ruinously humble saxophonist, so that he'd be thought of in the same way as the day's other great players. And hey -- it sorta worked. The CD got solid reviews, and more people heard it. But what most listeners took away from it was how intensely telepathic the music is. It's all lightning and smoke. These guys were deep inside each other's heads, and that made for a wonderful listening experience. In a way it's funny to hear how 'jazzy' Chris's playing is. He's gone so far beyond known-moves over the last years, you almost suspect he must be holding back. But he's not. He's throwing down as hard as he can to meet the ragged flowing genius of Flaherty's horn at every turn. He just had different chops back then. And the music is still amazing. The Hated Music is one of the best extended drum/sax forays you'll ever hear. If we could have done it on vinyl back then, we would have, but no one was buying the stuff much right then. Jerks. That has changed a bit now. For the good. And we got the great Gary Panter to do new cover, since the old one was CD sized and weird. But everything else is the same. And it totally rips a hole in the universe. Now and forever. Amen." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 500; Includes download code.

NEVILLE & GREG MALCOLM, STEFAN A Nuance LP
"Stefan Neville is one of the busier beavers on the North island of New Zealand. Recording under his own name, as Pumice (or a variety of other soubriquets), running the Stabbies & the Rockets label, drumming for the Coolies and so on, he keeps his tail moving quickly so that it does not grow moss. Greg Malcolm is one of New Zealand's premier avant garde string-benders. He did a bit of band aktion with Jay Clarkson in Breathing Cage but has mostly hewed to stranger improv-based roads. He plays oddly crafted guitar-like instruments of all manners and has lots of great solo recordings as well as various ad hoc unit-spew and a duo record with Eugene Chadbourne. And NOW, at last, he has Nuance as well. For Nuance, Greg plays strings, tambourine, voice and 'things.' Stefan counters with drums, reed organ, tapes, throat, and synth. The material ranges from 'Prospectus' (one of Steve Lacy's great '80s compositions) to Joe Meek's 'Telstar' to 'Hora' and 'Serba' (Jewish wedding music by the Epstein Brothers) with various unexpected stops in between. Apart from Jenny Ward's second vocals on Daw Henson's 'I'm Crazy Over You' (an old Kentucky tune, originally recorded by Alan Lomax in '37), it's just Stefan and Greg here. And they shine in lots of weird ways. Greg's strings often have lots of overloaded vibrational qualities to the way they sustain notes ('though they know how to cluck like chickens, as well) and Stefan's work ranges from stark drumming in the Mississippi style to key drones that extend the fake bounds of infinity. The breadth of the material they tackle is almost insane, but they manage to infuse it with their own distinct personality traits, and unusually friendly experimental tactics. Hard to grasp? Sure. But it's just as hard to stop playing it. That's what we call real Nuance." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 250.

DIAL Noise Opera LP
"We were first attuned to Dial by Bill Nace back in the early days of this century. He'd been sent over the moon by the incredible squall of the unit, a trio led by former UT-guitarist Jacqui Ham. We were so blown away by the re-emergence of Jacqui, we didn't even try to figure out who the other players were. But it turns out the other two dudes were Rob Smith, a most immaculate manipulator of drum dials and guitar feedback, and synth-pillager/bassist Dominic Weeks, who'd been in the most insane Rough Trade band of all times -- Furious Pig. This was news worth learning! Over the course of four CDs in 16 years, Dial managed to make a crazy amount of fully-braced guitar skronk, worthy of anyone you can name, without managing to get any of it onto that most durable of formats -- vinyl LP. Now. Finally. After more than a dozen years in the digital desert, Dial are being heard the way they were always meant to be heard. Noise Opera is an homage to Ornette Coleman's 1961 masterpiece, Free Jazz. The album consists of two side-long explorations of loud post-form guitar order and suggest different ways in which they can be organized, while remaining ecstatic throughout. The contours of the textures the quartet wrestle with in the dark halls of feedback and sheer skronk are incredible. Whole generations of New York post-form giants are referenced or destroyed in the course of Noise Opera. A statement as stunning as any you will hear this year." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 250.

MAKO SICA & HAMID DRAKE Ronda 2LP
"Brilliant, inspired and somewhat surprising collaboration between Chicago's premier free-rock trio and the truly legendary percussionist, Hamid Drake, who has played with everyone from Don Cherry to Peter Brötzmann to Lee Perry. This collusion was precipitated by Matt Jackowiak, a mutual friend, who thought a merging of their sounds might make for an ecstatic explosion. This feeling became mutual after they played a show together at Constellation. The set mixes Mako Sica tunes with improvisations that took everyone to places they hadn't expected, and the trip was deemed an utter success. Ronda was done at two sessions, scheduled around Hamid's insanely busy work schedule. The first was at Jamdek with Douglas Malone at the board, the second was at Electrical Audio with Taylor Hales. The Electrical session allowed the players access to a host of additional instruments, so the sonic palette on 'Dance With Waves' and 'Emanation' is wider and somehow more cosmic than usual. But the whole album has an extraordinary depth and width of sound. Even the great songs Mako Sica has had in its set for a while like 'The Old Book,' gain whole new levels of otherness here, and the material based in quartet improvisations, like 'The Wu Wei,' explores wild new territory for the band. Ronda (named after a town in southern Spain with a famous 18th Century bridge crossing a deep gorge) is the first span connecting the disparate musical worlds of Mako Sica and Hamid Drake. Let us hope it is but the first of many." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 500.

New 2018 edition. 2018 marks ten years since Finders Keepers Records first liberated Lubos Fiser's immaculate soundtrack music for Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders ("Valerie A Týden Divu") from the vaults of the Barrandov Studio in Prague. As the inaugural release of an ongoing discography of previously unreleased scores from the hugely creative "Film Miracle" that occurred during and after the Czech New Wave (CNW), this score will always retain a special place in the heart of the label. Having grown in status from an obscure and misunderstood socialist-era art house oddity, via the hands of risqué foreign fluff merchants, to finally find its rightful audience as a bona fide surrealist cinematic masterpiece of world class standards, this 1970 film adaptation of Vítezslav Nezval's 1935 avant-garde novella -- a film that literally cross-pollinated Max Ernst's A Week Of Kindness (1934) and Lewis Carol's Alice In Wonderland (1865) -- has garnered widespread critical acclaim. Inspiring ongoing generations of visual artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers, Valerie continues to impregnate their daily artistic referential fabric. Commonly considered to be the swansong of the CNW, following a huge paranoia-fueled government film cull in 1969, owing to the fact it is last government approved feature film of the post-Prague Spring era to combine the efforts of controversial filmmakers from the FAMU (Filmová A Televizní Fakulta Akademie Múzických Umení) film school, Valerie would also be the first of an exciting and essential new fertile strain of Czech made cinema fantastic. Successfully condensing the final drops of CNW lifeblood through a series of presumed apolitical scary/fairy tales, directors like Jaromil Jires and Juraj Herz used surrealism, traditionalism, and fantasy to rejuvenate the creative energy of apathetic filmmakers evading government scrutiny via creatively coded artistic allegories. By strategically choosing to adapt a pre-war surrealist melodrama written by a communist convert author called Vítezslav Nezval and based in a non-specific traditional era, the previously censored filmmaker Jaromil Jires was able to craft what many consider his finest filmic hour and what would later become his most universally received achievement. Jires managed to unintentionally establish a new genre format that was both stylistically and sonically tuned to the trends of the impending decade. SCHWELLENBACH, GREGOR The Body as Archive LP
For the dance film essay The Body as Archive Gregor Schwellenbach chose a simple yet radical approach: he created a kind of catalog of sounds, clearly structured, presented with sobriety and boldness. The sounds are not embedded in the familiar frame of rhythm-harmony-melody; rather, they are introduced smoothly, presented one after the other, sometimes going together, then standing alone. It is a sensual approach, at the same time executed strictly systematically. Or vice versa: Schwellenbach's composition is strictly systematical, giving maximum space for sensuality and the unfolding of sounds. Schwellenbach strives to create a system that doesn't become rigid, by treating the material gently and with sincerity. In composing The Body as Archive he sets clear rules: everything is played by hand, he only uses instruments he plays himself: keyboards (Rhodes, piano, synthesizer) and double bass. Almost all material is played in the same key, the chords can be used in any combination, everything fits to everything. The ten parts of The Body as Archive, mastered by Taylor Deupree, could be played all at the same time without sounding cacophonous. Everything is pure presence, a gently woven stream of elegance and attentiveness. The organization of sounds -- usually an action of preparation, didactic and discipline -- turns into poetry.

PERRY & THE UPSETTERS, LEE 'SCRATCH' Cloak And Dagger LP
"Lee Perry first came to prominence working with Coxsone Dodd's fabled Studio One. This is where Scratch earned the nickname with the wildly popular Jamaican hit record and dance craze 'Chicken Scratch.' After a fall out with Dodd, Perry moved on to a stint with Joe Gibb's Amalgamated. Again in a dispute over compensation Perry moved on to form his own label, Upsetter and established his house band, the Upsetters. By 1973 Perry had also established Black Ark, a recording studio of his own that functioned as an effective fertilizer throughout what was Jamaica's most innovative period for sounds and recording techniques. In that year, as Perry and Black Ark entered a period of heavy dub output, Scratch recorded Cloak And Dagger. This early dub outing is a testament to Perry's lo-fi mastery as he utilized his TEAC four-track, Soundcraft board, tape delays, phasers, reverb and any other ambient sounds he could get his hands on as an instrument rather than just to record instruments. Get On Down celebrates a piece of reggae history and one of Lee Perry's crowning achievements with this reissue of Cloak And Dagger, presented here as originally issued in Jamaica in 1973."

LOOSE JOINTS Is It All Over My Face 7"
"Arthur Russell's seminal disco cut 'Is It All Over My Face' available commercially for the first time on 45. When the mainstream turned its back on disco in the early 80s, it allowed dance music to once again choose its own path. As an artist, Arthur Russell routinely chose the paths less travelled. The original male vocal mix true to Russell's vision, is an organic piece that recreated the atmosphere of David Mancuso's Loft. The story goes that the recording sessions occurred during a full moon and included individuals that would often party at the Loft. An exercise in creating a vibe, the male version of the song reflects the complexity of Russell's arrangements and a maximalist wall of sound that would become a signature component in his dance productions. Although the record received some critical acclaim, it wasn't initially a commercial success. That came in a little later when famed a DJ remixed the song without permission from the label. According to some, Larry Levan snuck in to the West End offices to 'borrow' the multi-tracks to make an edit for himself to play at the Paradise Garage (also owned by West End's Mel Cheren). After getting positive feedback at the club, Larry decided to properly remix it with the aid of Francois K (who opted not to be credited because of his contract with Prelude). Larry Levan's remix now known as the 'Female Vocal Mix', although more structured is still pretty out there. Melvina Woods, a dancer from the Loft, slurs and misses notes as if her own loose joints were dusted, but the animalistic groove is so undeniably in-the-pocket that this actually got local radio play back in the day and remains in constant cult club rotation today. Of the two versions, Larry's mix is the one that went on to influence early Chicago House DJs who over the years have sampled those exact same drums countless times. Now that is some real freaky stuff."

CRYPT TRIP Rootstock LP
LP version. Crypt Trip is a group from Texas that plays hard rock music. Originally formed in Dallas in 2013, the first incarnation of the band had a heavy psychedelic sound that was reminiscent of a dark nineteen seventies underground. It wasn't long before guitarist/singer Ryan Lee and bassist Sam Bryant relocated to Central Texas where they met drummer Cameron Martin and began to solidify their sound. Taking influence from aged rock records, jazz methodology, and their cultural roots in the cosmic American South, their music presents you with a genuinely personal experience. Take a trip with Rootstock, the new album from the Texas natives Crypt Trip. You'll find that the use of mind-altering substances is not necessary to feel the raw psychedelic power of the band's sophomore effort. With its many peaks and valleys, Rootstock will take you on a journey through musical dynamics and diverse musicianship. You will be confronted throughout with both high-energy rock and gentle moments of refined delicacy. No gimmicks. No strings attached. This is a simple and pure representation of three musicians in a collaborative effort to give you unfiltered Texas hard rock.

DISSMENTADO The Best of Dissmentado LP
At long last! Huntleys + Palmers present a hypnotic time-capsule courtesy of Dissmentado, aka Ismael Pinkler from Carisma and Kompakt collaborator, Máximo Graesse Bondino. Recorded during summer trips in Buenos Aires and spending autumn in Tromso, Norway between 2006-2010, Maximo and Ismael met several times during that period and used friends' houses and studios to produce a long list of material, selecting later the best of it for this compilation. The tracks are long and slow, with deep and moving beats and long background sounds dedicated to warm up dreamers and after hour survivors. The elements develop their movements in a relaxed way through the tracks creating a loose feel. Every beat was played with their hands and there is no arpeggiated melodies to remind you where the ground is. Artwork by Glasgow-based artist Rosie McGurn. 180 gram vinyl.

WEEED This Cassette
Weeed's debut for Important Records, titled This, has an expansive musical vision and an astonishingly mature sound from a young band. Despite their relatively young ages Weeed has been together for ten years -- a fact made apparent by the fluidity and unity of their sound. Labels such as stoner/psych/jam/alt/krautrock fall short as the band draws from a deeper pool of inspiration including gnawa, traditional folk, jazz, minimalist orchestras, overtone singing, and much more. This is the product of both a desire to make such influences more apparent as well as a desire to explore the boundaries of the members' abilities to connect with each other; to become, in essence, one mind. Though the skeleton of the album was written during practices, the dynamics and fullness of each song were often reconnoitered and spawned through the improvisations which occurred during live settings and tours. The idea was discovery through the act of being present, and This was the result. Sonically, This is an outgrowth of their last release, Meta (2017), which saw the band beginning to experiment with ambient and vocal looping, flutes, synthesizers. Those explorations are present here, as is the notable (and permanent) addition of a second drummer, which is defined through the mixtures of tight syncopations and pulsing polyrhythms present in these songs. Recorded and produced at Bear Creek studio in Woodinville, WA, This marks a shift in sound that will only lead to further exploration into new musical territory."These guys have a chemistry that allows them to oscillate between highly structured rock songs and psychedelic free-form jams without and inhibitions." --More Fuzz"The search for Seattle's freakiest psych-rock band may be over." --Dave Segal, The Stranger

COLUMN & FRIENDS Pets II LP
The keeping of pets marks humans' attempt at taking possession of a part of reality that is not at their disposal. Dressing a piece of the real that lives according to entirely non-human rules and which only in the saddest case does not resist the discipline of the human symbolic order vehemently and in a sustained matter, is a violent act of protection. Because in the non-place of the real, all that which we are helpless in the face of looms: the non-logical and the nameless, the violence and the noise, yet also the unrestrained and unfiltered desire. The innocuous figure of the pet marks a gateway to an investigation of these eerie milieus, while electronic dance music lends itself to this investigation in an outstanding way. This constellation marks the subject of Column's Pets II. Column is the name of Cologne-based renaissance man Jan Philipp Janzen, who, as chief emissary of Cologne's pop internationalism, has been playing the field in various functions and is, in one way or another, been involved in most relevant records coming out of Cologne for the past number of years. After his excellent solo debut Pets I (2016), Janzen presents another extraordinary record in Pets II, perfectly complemented by another ghostly oil work of Burkhard Mönnich on the cover.?Sonically, Pets II marks a clear development for Column. In its exploration of the thresholds of the real, it sets two points of focus, corresponding with the split in sides A and B. Side A, on which Janzen teams up with long-time friend myr., explores the uncanny as a fissure of the symbolic order, and the subsequent breaking in of the real. It opens with two peak-time rockets that have their wooden, nether-regional groove narrated by grim, down-pitched vocals. The ethereal remix by Leibniz is the side's clandestine and no less dark closer. Side B, for which Janzen invited studio mate Marvin Horsch along, delivers two swaying synthesizer workouts, the second of which, "Molly And Swerve", is directed firmly at the dancefloor again. What is at stake here is the transition between a free, undirected jouissance of the real and a more ordered becoming-lust. Here, as in Map.ache's remix which closes out Pets II, it becomes clear what connections dance music can foster between a free, impersonal desire and the sphere of interpersonal wanting, but also the losses that are negotiated in it.

GREEN RIVER Come On Down LP
"Released in 1985, Green River Come On Down was a record existing in its sonic universe--out of step with its own time. Was it glam? Was it punk? Was it metal? Was it cool? We now know it was one of the building blocks of what Mark Arm would coin as 'grunge' but in 1985 this record was a silent groundbreaker. It was not only the raw, sludgy, slower guitar sound that makes this band important in its place in rock history, but the members of Green River would go on to lead some of the biggest names in the genre: Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, the latter of which also contained the roots of Pearl Jam. The record includes the iconic original cover artwork, is pressed on colored vinyl, has a printed inner sleeve with lyrics and photo of the original master tape box, plus an unreleased rare bonus track!"

YOUNGE PRESENTS, ADRIAN Voices Of Gemma Instrumentals LP
"In the great and ongoing culture war between high and low, raw and refined, the real versus popular, certain territories have been ceded: styles considered mainstream get to be pretty, lovely and optimistic. Styles originating underground are presumed to be gritty, burly and practical. So it's a subversion of a kind, and definitely an intellectual challenge, to bathe a foreboding bass line in a lilt. To make gloomy shine. Adrian Younge's Voices Of Gemma embodies the potential of the hybrid. By just saying no to the borders a label like underground might impose on a creativity like his, he's able to fashion a sound that elbows its way past your defenses, whatever they are. You don't want to hear anything grim today? Had enough of that on the news, thanks? Younge has a couple of angels on hand to waft a hard truth over so that when it hits it feels like a kiss. Sick of the saccharine piped over aisle 4 at Walgreens? Younge's palming you a melody fit for impending doom. Voices Of Gemma comes from Younge's refusal to accept the premise. His stance is there in every artist's job description -- the determination to suction up sounds and flavors and phrases from all over the past and present and imagined and documented, and then splice and dissolve what he finds into more possibilities and new ways of seeing, something fresh. On this project his songs are precise, the set ups delivered with a satiny finish and, in the low end, just a hint of louche. Care has been given to every detail, and the old way of doing a thing (bring in an orchestra, record to tape) is the way it's done; it's like listening to a five-star hotel. Voices Of Gemma is luxurious, a style that we forgot could be present day, as accustomed as we are to sampled and thrice-removed versions of it. This is high-class signified, a world-class realization."

COIL Astral Disaster Sessions Un/finished Music CD
"Halloween 1998: Coil were invited to record at Sun Dial's studios beneath the London Bridge Hop Exchange -- a studio first known as Samurai Studios, originally built and owned by Iron Maiden. The premises in Victorian times had been a debtor's prison, with three underground levels -- and the original chains, manacles and wrought iron prison doors. This caught the attention of John Balance, who was very keen to record there. With Gary Ramon's help, Coil developed a number of tracks, some of which resulted in the Astral Disaster album. But there were other tracks recorded too during those Halloween sessions -- the recordings included on this release, Astral Disaster Sessions Un/finished Music. For various reasons, this material and these mixes were omitted from the original (Prescription edition) Astral Disaster album -- including the extremely rare version of 'I Don't Want To Be The One', previously only available on a 1999 promo-only Prescription label sampler, and the 14-minute track 'Cosmic Disaster' (the original working title of the album). Taken from the original masters, this digipack reissue includes an eight-page art booklet, and facsimile signatures of John Balance and Peter Christopherson."

VA Duomo Sounds Ltd: Nigerian '80s Disco Music To Move Your Soul 2LP
Repressed; Double LP version. In the late '70s, the thrust of mainstream music had changed from the indigenous highlife to a more international funky disco sound. Keyboards and drum machines were the key components of the new sound. The implications on sales was real as names like Bunny Mack, Chris Okotie, Christy Essien, and Jide Obi replaced Osita Osadebe and the Oriental Brothers on the charts. It was in this effervescent climate that Duomo Sounds Ltd was established by Humphrey Aniakor, a business man with no prior investment in the industry. It was simply the in-thing for a young affluent businessman. The name suggested European sophistication, modernity and a little abstraction. D U O M O Sounds, the kids loved it. The first release was Bassey Black's Someone To Love which sold over a 100,000 copies, a big hit at the time. The success of the album attracted several artists the most influential of which was Mike Umoh. He aimed for the pop market with accessible, funky arrangements. However his affinity for funk and disco has made him a reference for collectors worldwide. His LP entitled, Honey, Honey was the label's second release and his most successful album. He also produced the label's 19th release, Bindiga's No More Starvation, an Afro-boogie funk masterpiece. The album in its original format is very sought after by collectors and DJs and changes hands for huge sums. It's been described by many as cosmic funk at its finest. Christy Ogbah's disco soul/highlife records on Duomo are also very highly sought after. This new Livingstone Studio release presents the best of Duomo Sounds Ltd. for the first time. Features Christy Ogbah, Johnny O, Mike Umoh, Bindiga, Bassey Black and The Natty Messiah, Godfrey Odili, and Eunice Mokus Arimoku. TONI TORNADO Toni Tornado LP
Mad About Records present a reissue of Toni Tornado's legendary funk soul album, from 1972. Toni Tornado is a black Rio masterpiece, reissued here for the first time on vinyl. Son of a Guyanese father and a Brazilian mother, at eleven years old Toni ran away from home and ended up in Rio, where he made a living selling peanuts and shining shoes. Tony began his artistic career in the 1960s with the stage name Tony Checker, lip-synching and dancing on Jair Taumaturgo's Hoje é dia de Rock. In the 1960s, he traveled to the United States, where he lived for five years in New York, serving as a drug dealer and pimp, whilst pretending to be an employee of a car wash. At that time, Tony met another Brazilian in the form of singer Tim Maia. Back in Brazil, he worked in the group of Ed Lincoln and also sang under the pseudonym Johnny Bradfort, the owner of the club forcing him to pretend to be a foreigner. In 1970, he adopted the name with which he came to be known, Tony Tornado. Influenced by James Brown, Tony was one of the artists who introduced soul music and funk into Brazilian music. Brown's in-your-face approach to racial pride resonated in the ghettos as well as the slums abroad. Many black people, all around the world, embraced the consciousness and music of the black power movement. Working-class black cariocas (residents of Rio) of Zona Norte began using the English phrases "black power", "brother", and "black is beautiful". They played soul records at their bailes (dances) and incorporated the lyrics and sounds into their music. Maia, the godfather of "música soul", spent five years in the United States, coming to know the sounds of black America intimately. When he returned to Brazil in 1964, Maia incorporated these influences into his songs. By the 1970s, other Brazilian musicians, such as Tony Tornado, Banda Black Rio, Cassiano, Gerson King Combo, Jorge Ben Jor, and Gilberto Gil had begun making soul records. This new music spoke to an experience both universal and unique at the same time. By the end of the 1970s, funk and disco would take over where soul left off, but it was the latter that helped to shape a generation of artists around a universal black identity. 1970s "paste-on" packaging and obi; Edition of 500.

WERREN, PHILLIP Electronic Music 4LP BOX
"An astounding, epic journey into the more obscure areas of early electronic music, Phillip Werren's Electronic Music is a wellspring of contemporary composition across four LPs. Originally released in 1971 in an edition of 100 copies, this impossibly rare piece of early Canadian electronic music has finally been reissued on vinyl in an exact replica box with a silk-screened cover. Electronic Music was recorded at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver), McGill University (Montreal) and Radio Warzawa (Poland) between 1967 and 1971. Influenced as much by serialism as by psychedelia and the occult, the album features elements of tape collage, voice, and experimental composition. Most of the recordings were performed on a Buchla System 100, one of the first modular synthesizers. An absorbing piece of the Canadian avant-garde, Electronic Music is a journey through space, sound, texture, and unbridled experimentation. Recommended for fans of artist ranging from Stockhausen, Xenakis, and Ferrari to Basil Kirchin, Conrad Schnitzler, Throbbing Gristle, and Coil --Manufactured Recordings' reissue of Electronic Music aims to shed light on this crucially overlooked composer. JFDR White Sun Live. Part I: Strings CD
For White Sun Live. Part I: Strings, Jófríður Ákadóttir has re-recorded some of the finest songs from her bands and solo-projects (JFDR, Samaris, Pascal Pinon) with new string arrangements. These versions have a simple, inherent beauty that is juxtaposed with their seething, stark intensity. To replace the original arrangements with strings was originally planned as a one-off event: When preparing a Pascal Pinon performance in Portugal, Jófríður asked NYC-based composer Ian Davis to help her re-arrange four tracks. After the show Jófríður realized that the material deserved to be captured. The featured songs were chosen from the repertoire of JFDR (her solo project) and Pascal Pinon (the duo she forms with her sister Ásthildur). There was no objective selection criteria: "I chose the songs that called for strings, songs that I was interested in continuing their story", Jófríður says. "Making this EP was meant to cast new light onto old bodies, to explore what is song and what is arrangement". Indeed, the arrangements establish a fresh perspective on the selected songs (except for "My Work" -- as the track will appear on a forthcoming JFDR album). Being freed from genre, these versions also expose JFDR's voice and its dynamics -- the absence of beats gives her vocal performance new possibilities. The EP was recorded live in a studio in Reykjavík, where Jófríður was joined by producer Albert Finnbogason, her sister Ásthildur (additional vocals and piano) and a string quintet. Ian Davis also made it to the recording sessions and brought two new transcriptions: "I wanted to have moments of clear simplicity juxtaposed with more dense, experimental passages. Sometimes the strings are just holding root notes and simple chords and other times they open up into more contrapuntal and textural moments", Ian explains. As a result, you'll find both moments of modest beauty as well as intensely seething passages. Even if Jófríður's voice clearly is the main attraction here, this EP -- as she emphasizes herself -- is a collective work of those involved: "Trusting your collaborators is the truest gift".

NKT presents The Inner Empire, the work from Siberian trio Presidiomodelo, where misty atmospheres are infused with a murky, industrial aesthetic. Following previous NKT investigations into inner conflict and alienation, The Inner Empire is a meditation on themes of self-confinement and interior exile. Originally composed for theater, here revisited to include the full original recordings, it is an evocative thirty-minute journey that burrows deep like the diamond mines. Rumbling synths oscillate amongst delicate beds of chimes whilst ghostly chants and guttural tones vibrate around the sound of handmade instruments and hypnotic drums, all immersed into the humid Siberian forest. The soundtrack drifts unbroken throughout sections as if shifting through different thresholds of consciousness, dilating time and projecting images of ancient scenes and archaic practices.

This is the next Now-Again issue in a series of reissues centered around Axelrod's Capitol Trilogy -- Song of Innocence, Songs of Experience and Earth Rot -- which will see release through 2018. Contains 32-page booklet that delves into Axelrod's incredible life and music, replete with never before published photos. 'There are very few people who see the Grand Picture of the Universe and understand the Nothingness that it all comes from. There are even fewer who can express these ideas through music -- David could do it all.' --T-Ray"

SIRIKITI, EKUKA MORRIS Ekuka 2LP
Ekuka is a mesmerizing survey of Ekuka Morris Sirikiti's thumb piano performances broadcast on radio stations in North Uganda between 1978-2003. All previously unheard beyond the stations' range of transmission, Hailing from the Langi tribe of Lira, Northern Uganda, legendary local griot Ekuka Morris Sirikiti performs his music in various situations -- festivities, market days, and other gatherings -- on a homemade foot/drum contraption coupled with the Lukeme; a small, handheld thumb piano that produces flurries of metallic rhythm-melody under deft digits, and is maybe best known as an Mbira in its heavily distorted use by the Democratic Republic of Congo's amazing Konono Nº1, as well as myriad other recordings from the vast Central and East African region. Entirely comprising home recordings of the original radio broadcasts made on various devices, the music on Ekuka is understandably distorted to differing degrees, resulting in a broad spectrum of fidelities that are both unavoidable and inherent to the music, its reception, and its perception by those who didn't catch the broadcast as it happened. The 12 songs selected zig-zag across the timeline 1978-2003, with an alternating patina of ferric noise that camouflages their chronology -- it's difficult and unnecessary to discern their recording dates, as the songs serve a timeless social purpose, from everyday reminders to be a good husband; take your kids to school; and don't disturb the wife of your son; to Government commissioned warnings about venereal diseases, drinking alcohol, and paying taxes. Considering this all took place against the backdrop of tribal warfare and cattle raids by rebels, the raucous laughter on "In Boloney For Ayinet" demonstrates the humor and pathos behind the songs in a way that may literally escape listeners elsewhere. And in that context Ekuka is quite unlike most other vintage recordings which resurface outside of Africa beyond, say, Honest Jon's Something Is Wrong and Bellyachers, Listen (HJR 050-1LP) sets, which admittedly document a much earlier period circa 1938-1957, but were also selected from recordings not specifically or even vaguely conceived for the international market. As with Nyege Nyege Tapes' previous dispatches from modern day Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, Ekuka provides a genuinely street-level, unfiltered perspective on unfathomably long-rooted traditions in a way that sounds incredibly fresh, unfamiliar, and hugely interesting to keen ears. Master by Matt Colton at Alchemy.

EKEMEZIE, LIVY Friday Night LP
2018 repress; LP version. Blue vinyl. Odion Livingstone, based out of Lagos, Nigeria, present its debut release, a reissue of the sought-after Nigerian disco LP rarity Friday Night by Livy Ekemezie, originally released in 1983. "I was just out of senior secondary school and I wanted to make an album," recalls Ekemezie. "I was into disco and funk at the time and I was looking for a bass-driven funky sound. The entire idea was to make an album that sounded like something made in London or the U.S. I tried to sound 'American' but we ended up with something else: a mix of American and Nigerian." Friday Night was recorded at Goddy Oku's Godiac 24-track recording studio in Enugu, one of the best studios available in Nigeria at the time. "It took about nine months to a year to make the album," continues Ekemezie. "I financed it by myself so I had to resort to friends helping out with loans for session men and studio time. The original LP was released on blue vinyl and that idea came from William Onyeabor. We used his pressing plant and he sold the idea to me. It was different so I said 'why not?'" The LP has been picked up by many in recent months as the demand for Nigerian disco originals has grown with the track "Delectation" receiving an unofficial edit and DJs like Motor City Ensemble dropping the album into their sets. This first ever reissue features full original artwork along with new interviews with Livy Ekemezie and contributing musician Jules Elong by Odion Livingstone's Temi Kogbe.

GYAN, KIKI Feeling So Good CD
Ooom Dooby Dochas present a first-time reissue of Kiki Gyan's Feeling So Good, originally released in 1979. This is in fact more than just a rare record and definitely more than just a vinyl share for insatiable collectors who only judge a record by its monetary value. This is a prime example of overflowing talent coupled with a simmering passion for music and the hunger for life right at the moment. The story begins on June 7th, 1957 in a small Ghanaian village where Kofi Kwarko Gyan, nicknamed Kiki, was born into a middle-class family. Soon his talent as a musician began to show when he started taking piano lessons by the age of five and went professional by the age of 12. He dropped out of school shortly after and began living a life on the road with regional Ghanaian bands. One trip abroad took him to London in the early '70s where his career received a giant push at the age of 15. He joined Afro rock legends Osibisa in 1972 as their new keyboardist after his predecessor had left the band. By the mid-70s Kiki Gyan had played with Osibisa to giant audiences all over the world and met personalities from the international music scene such as Elton John and Mick Jagger. He was not only a steady keyboardist for Osibisa but also as a very popular session man. He released a couple of solo albums with Feeling So Good being his second effort. The music keeps what the title promises as this is a delightful example of joy manifesting in music. Everything is bright here, the grooves are complex and powerful, yet always accessible. The harmonies enchant you with their friendly approach. Gyan mixes Western disco sounds, funk, African traditional chants and reggae sounds into an ever-flowing groove music that has lots of melody and mesmerizes by the swirling percussion patterns. Feeling So Good is an equally physical and spiritual affair and contains six lengthy tunes. Tunes that live from the tight interplay of all instruments, the crisp, clear, and powerful production and a wild and steaming atmosphere. His legacy remains huge, not only for African music but for all black music that ruled the early disco scene in the '70s. Next to Fela Kuti and Geraldo Pino, Kiki Gyan can be called a true force in African pop music of the '70s.

AKWASSA In The Groove CD
Oom Dooby Dochas present a first-time reissue of Akwassa's In The Groove, originally released in 1977. Nigeria had an utterly strong popular music scene in the 1970s, Afro beat and Afro funk were the hottest musical creations of the day and garage rock-oriented bands like Ofege or funky monsters Akwassa were at the forefront of the movement. In The Groove is Akwassa's second album, despite recording three albums released under the moniker Heads Funk Band with exactly the same line-up as Akwassa from 1975 to 1978. However, the main difference between In The Groove and the earlier records is a more slick and polished feeling and a strong reggae element. Next to this, there are definitely a few more up-to-date disco funk influences that outweigh the classic raw street funk you'll find on the predecessors of In The Groove. So the development in sound and style is obvious. In The Groove has an easier, more relaxed feeling. The atmosphere is bright and certainly reaches out for a wider audience. In The Groove was a perfect album that will appeal to each and every fan of funky music. All the members of Akwassa stayed with music after the band dissolved in the late '70s, some of them until recent years, others straight up into the '80s or '90s. Even though this important Nigerian band called out its quit at some point, they left a rich legacy of music. Colorful and inspiring, this album is made to last forever due to the memorable hooks and harmonies. This official reissue of this monster rarity was overdue, and Afro funk lovers around the world will leap for joy as nearly all tunes could be played in a row to set the dancefloor ablaze.

PINO & THE HEARTBEATS, GERALDO Afro Soco Soul Live CD
Oom Dooby Dochas present a reissue of Geraldo Pino & The Heartbeats' Afro Soco Soul Live, originally released in 1972. Pino was born in Sierra Leone in the 1930s. He was the son to a lawyer working in Nigeria, lost his mother and sister at a very young age, and found relief in music. He played social clubs by the early '60s with his newly founded band The Heartbeats delivering cover-versions of American hits and Congolese rumba tunes that were then utterly popular in the West Africa area. The Heartbeats literally played until their fingers bled in popular night clubs in Sierra Leone, became one of the highest earning bands of Western Africa and were even able to put up their own television show after television had been introduced in Sierra Leone in 1962. All those developments put Geraldo Pino and his band in the position as leading figures in the African popular music that even Fela Kuti cited Geraldo Pino & The Heartbeats as a major influence. Geraldo Pino lived and played in his area, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, and created some of the hottest funky sounds with sophisticated sound gear, outstanding clothing, and songs that made your blood boil. After a few 7" releases throughout the 1960s the first real album of Geraldo Pino & The Heartbeats hit the scene in 1972. Afro Soco Soul Live is as the title suggests an album that has been recorded at a concert and Geraldo Pino often communicates with the utterly enthusiastic audience, gives longer announcements between the songs, or introduces his lead guitarist before he starts a simmering solo. All songs here have an average length of six minutes and, despite their composed parts, show this free jammy flow. The basic style is funk with soulful vocals which gets mixed up with traditional African percussion grooves. This album swallows you with its mesmerizing rhythms. The funky Hammond B3 organ is omnipresent on all the tracks and duels with the wild and completely unleashed lead guitar from time to time. Due to the crisp and clear sound, this record gives you the feeling of being right at the scene. It is no wonder that this record is a popular gem in Western Africa. Original copies of this album go for several hundred USD if they ever turn up. A sacred gem of African funk music reissued.

PUCE MARY The Spiral LP
2018 repress. The Spiral is Puce Mary's third LP for Posh Isolation. It follows where 2014's critically acclaimed Persona left off. Working more precisely than ever, The Spiral binds the listener in a tight web of sharp synthesizers, hammering percussion, obscured vocals, field recordings, and blistering noise. Intimidatingly personal, though never allowing the introspection to become aimless, Puce Mary manages to honor the history of industrial music and noise while simultaneously transforming it. The Spiral is harsh, but the aggression of the compositions never feels unnecessarily overstated or irrelevant. As the feverish sexuality of The Spiral comes into focus as the album's cornerstone, the exertion of the recording is problematized and turns errant. The vestige of safety in dominance and submission is antagonized as audience and artist take turns being dealt blows. The Spiral charts this instability as a perennial tonic in sound. With an already impressive discography and live career, Puce Mary has manifested herself as a key voice in new experimental electronic music. This album is further proof that she has earned her praise.

BROWN, BARRY Vibes Of Barry Brown LP
LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Vibes Of Barry Brown, originally released in 1981. Barry Brown is one of the enigmatic roots reggae vocalists that rose up from the sound system circuit and talent shows of western Kingston, which has always formed the bedrock of Jamaican popular music. Horace Andy was an obvious vocal influence, but Brown's phrasing was distinctly different, his slurring interjections leaning towards the dancehall style of the future. During the late 1970s, tons of material by the singer surfaced from recording sessions for producers such as Bunny Lee, Sugar Minott, Carlton Patterson, and the Hookim Brothers at Channel One, and by 1980, Brown was also issuing finely-crafted self-produced work. Vibes Of Barry Brown, an album of deep roots reggae, surfaced in limited quantity in 1981 via Sonic Sounds' Gorgon imprint, the sub-label reserved for producers that lacked an established label of their own, and although production is not specifically credited, the album is likely self-produced work, since Brown is credited as sole songwriter, just as he was on the self-produced Cool Pon Your Corner LP from 1980. The albums are stylistically similar too, with Brown singing over hard roots rhythms, most likely laid at Channel One with the core of the Roots Radics, and voiced and mixed at King Tubby's.

VYNEHALL, LEON Rojus (Designed To Dance) 2x12"
2018 repress. Double 12" version. Leon Vynehall has established himself as a genuine artist, creating proper songs that are as layered with musicality and craftsmanship as they are in tune with the dancefloor. Drawing influence from house, techno, disco, funk, hip hop, and soul, Vynehall's music incorporates many elements from his musical past as well; his journey, like most, began with playing drums and piano in bands as a teenager, which manifests itself in the raw, live sound he strives for in his productions. His work has seen him dabble in various tempos, palettes, and styles while always remaining unmistakably his own, reflecting his wide-ranging listening habits, which span everything from classical and orchestral compositions to post-punk. Vynehall describes the inspiration for Rojus (Designed To Dance): "Two years ago I played at Studio 9 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The following day I missed my flight home and ended up spending an extra day, which gave me a chance to explore the city with my friend Linus, who took me to the Contemporary Art Centre. It was there I spotted a book named Rojus, that Linus told me translated as 'Paradise'. The word and striking cover of the book stuck in my mind. A few days after returning home, I turned on a National Geographic documentary named Designed To Dance, explaining the courtship rituals of Birds Of Paradise." Rojus (Designed To Dance), Vynehall goes on to explain, is a "record of functional club music, sequenced as if it were a club night, from doors to closing, using samples of these Birds Of Paradise and their habitat."

DJ SPRINKLES & HARDROCK STRIKER Skylax House Explosion 2CD
Eight years since A Short Introduction To The House Sounds Of Terre Thaemlitz (2010), and a long, fruitful relationship thereafter, DJ Sprinkles and Hardrock Striker begin a new project, teaming up as Skylax House Explosion (S.H.E.) A nod to Terre Thaemlitz's work as Kami-Sakunobe House Explosion (K-S.H.E.) that started in 2006, S.H.E. presents a compilation celebrating the run of Skylax Records which started in 2004 by DJ and producer Hardrock Striker. The two members of S.H.E. take on a mix either side of the CD, which accompanies a three-piece vinyl compilation featuring previously unreleased music curated by DJ Sprinkles and Hardrock Striker, owner of the label. On the first disc of this mix CD, Sprinkles channels an all at once energetic and subdued sonic pallet -- much like her work as K-S.H.E -- presenting a mix that leans heavily on the sound of Skylax. Very much the straight-up house that the label is known for, but saturated in references to Paradise Garage, The Loft, and the ballrooms of Midtown Manhattan. In parts, the mix belies the insistently deeper mood of Sprinkles shows in recent years, but this is by no means an unfamiliar approach; Terre Thaemlitz has always maintained varying styles at once, often standing in opposition to one another. On disc two, Hardrock Striker draws from his recent label signees, such as Jason Grove, Octo Octa, Fuckthegovernment.Ltd, and Urban Inc. Striker packs more of a bag for the upbeat parties he is known for in Paris, while not straying too far from "deep" sounds allied with his label. The mix features friends from the back catalog of Skylax as well unheard tracks forthcoming on one of three exclusive vinyl releases. Here he unearths some overlooked gems from the last two decades, before ending with his work on the Peter Black and Hardrock Striker record, Dreamtime. House music is ubiquitous in clubs around the world. Stay underground, it pays. DJ Sprinkles' mix features: Garage Shelter, An Expresso, Jason Grove, Nick Beringer, Simoncino, Chez Damier, Soul System (aka Nicholas), Sameed, Damien Zala, F.T.G. & Belfie & Alex Tea, Joey Kay, Lady Blacktronika, Carlos Nilmmns, and Violence FM & The Underground Soulsavers. HAMASE, MOTOHIKO Intaglio CD
Studio Mule present a re-recording of Motohiko Hamase's Intaglio, recorded in Japan, 2018. Originally released in 1986. Currently the rediscovery of long-forgotten Japanese electronic, jazz, and new age music is at a peak like never before. Although many reissues have already hit record stores, the large, diverse musical culture of Japan still got some gems in store that are really missing. For example, the work of Japanese bass player, new age and ambient musician Motohiko Hamase. When the now 66-year old artist started to be a professional musician in the 1970s, he quickly gained success as a versed studio instrumentalist and started to be part of the great modern jazz Isao Suzuki Sextet where he played with legends like pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto or fusion guitar one-off-a-kind Kazumi Watanabe. He was also in the studio when legendary Japanese jazz records like Straight Ahead of Takao Uematsu (1977), Moritato For Osada of jazz singer Minami Yasuda (1978), or Moon Stone of synthesizer, piano, and organ wizard Mikio Masuda (1978) were recorded. In the 1980s Hamase began to slowly drift away from jazz and drowned his musical vision in new age, ambient, and experimental electronic spheres in which he incorporated his funky meditative way of playing the bass above airy sounds and arrangements. His first solo album Intaglio is not only a milestone of Japanese new age ambient, it is also a fresh sonic journey in jazz that does not sound like jazz at all. First issued by the Japanese label Shi Zen, the record had a decent success in Japan and by some overseas fans of music from the far east. With seven haunting, stylistically hard-to-pigeonhole compositions, Hamase drifts around new age worlds with howling wind sounds, gentle bass pickings, and discreet drums that mind remind listeners of the power of Japanese taiko percussions. Also, propulsive fourth-world-grooves call the tune and all compositions avoid a foreseeable structure. At large his albums seem to be improvised and yet are deeply composed. Music that works like shuffling through an imaginary sound library full of spiritual deepness, that even spreads, in its shaky moments, some profound relaxing moods. The release marks another highlight in Studio Mule's mission to excavate neglected Japanese music that somehow has more to offer in the present age than at the time of his original birth.

Nozomu Matsumoto is an artist and curator behind EBM(T), Tokyo -- representing work by Robin Mackay, TCF, Sam Kidel, etc. Climatotherapy is his first physical release following a number of self-published digital works and mixes for online publications. Climatotherapy is Nozomu's soundtrack for a health forecast given by Amazon's Text-to-Speech interface Polly, and is perhaps the most disturbing, as well as the most evocative release on The Death Of Rave label to date; creating a widescreen, hi-definition world where you're never quite sure what's real. Climatotherapy features Polly narrating a non-linear text intersecting issues of morality in Artificial Intelligence with the artist's experience of meteoropathic sickness, and its symptoms related to barometric fluctuations and psychic-atmospheric disturbance. Nozomu imagines that Polly curates our mental and moral energy into health by high-definition MIDI orchestration. Polly's prognostications come framed by a hyperreal tapestry of idyllic ambient, cinematic strings, and R&B folk tropes, conveying Nozomu's ideas with clinically emotive clarity. The effect is uncannily calculated, using additional human vocals and music to limn in HD detail an up-to-the minute and personal perspective on themes of AI and morality which could be called key to Japan's hauntology. A strikingly singular work, the 15-minute Climathotherapy effectively resonates with the novel musical sci-fi of James Ferraro, Elysia Crampton, and TCF, as well as The Death of Rave's own editions such as Mark Leckey's GreenScreenRefrigerator (LECKEY 001LP) and Sam Kidel's Disruptive Muzak (RAVE 014LP, 2016). It's a properly unique record of its times. Master and cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy. Includes 12x12" insert transcript designed by Mark Fell. One-sided white label with sticker; Edition of 300.

HOLMES, DAVID Mosaic - Music From The HBO Limited Series CD
Initially released as an interactive app in which the viewer directed the narrative -- Mosaic is a six-part HBO series conceived and directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Sharon Stone. Mosaic is a twisting tale of passion, intrigue, and deception focusing on the disappearance of a high-profile resident of picturesque Summit, Utah and the four-year effort by law- enforcement and civilians to discover the truth behind the crime. With that in mind, David Holmes's original soundtrack for Mosaic weaves as intriguing a tale. Recorded between Belfast and Los Angeles by Holmes, the album features a modern-day wrecking crew of musicians. Echoes of Ennio Morricone abound alongside the influence of avant-garde pioneers and Holmes's current soundtrack contemporaries in a selection of deep listening tracks. To quote Mark Kermode, Mosaic outlines Holmes's expertise at "ratcheting up the tension" with strings, horns, and synthesizers swelling throughout. As this tension peaks there is inevitable release -- in rhythmic and harmonic tracks such as "What I Want Is The Red Room" and Badalamenti-esque lounge eeriness in the likes of "Four Years Later" -- guiding the 20 cues presented on this release into a cohesive, full, and nuanced album that reveals subtle and rewarding intricacies on each repeated listen. Mosaic once again outlines Holmes as a modern master of the original soundtrack.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, THE The Million Dollar Quartet LP
Wax Love present a reissue of The Million Dollar Quartet, originally recorded by the quartet of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis in 1956. On December 4, 1956, four young musicians gathered by pure chance at Sun Records in Memphis for what would become one of the greatest jam sessions ever. In fact, the four guys in question happen to be Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis, hence the name Million Dollar Quartet" Not only does this recording show a glimpse of the real Elvis, but it actually stands as a musical artifact in itself. Ranging from gospel spirituals and country standards to covers of Bill Monroe and Chuck Berry songs, these four all-time rock icons play with all the ingredients that created rock and roll, just for the fun of it. A document showing the real feel of the early days of rock and roll, finally back on vinyl.

GAINSBOURG & MICHEL COLOMBIER, SERGE Le Pacha OST CD
Wewantsounds present a reissue of Serge Gainsbourg's cult score for the 1968 French film Le Pacha. These tracks were composed by Serge Gainsbourg at the height of his '60s cool when he was briefly going out with Brigitte Bardot and the couple was on the verge of recording the infamous first version of "Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus" (1969). All the tracks here are arranged by famed arranger Michel Colombier, who had been responsible for some of Gainsbourg's best songs ("Bonnie & Clyde" and "Harley Davidson") and had also arranged Pierre Henry's classic Psyche-Rock around the same time -- note the similarity between Psyche-Rock and "Un Noel 67" from this set. Many of these nuggets blend '60s pop and psychedelia -- pure undiluted Gainsbourg with his classic psyche-pop sound of the late '60s. The original soundtrack features his classic "Requiem Pour Un Con" together with a previously unreleased instrumental mix, along with two bonus tracks from William Klein's 1968 film Mister Freedom. Digitally remastered from the original tapes, this is the first time the full soundtrack is released on vinyl in its entirety. Includes two bonus tracks. Includes liner notes featuring interview by cult French bass player Francis Darizcuren. Artwork by famed poster designer Maxime Pecourt.

MICAY, NATHAN Whities 017 12"
Nathan Micay (formerly Bwana) steps out under his own name for the first time with a pair of glistening panoramas well-primed for those exultant hours of the early morning. In Nathan's words: "These are without a doubt the most personal tracks I have written to date. I made them as a sort of exercise in self-therapy during my first few months in Berlin. As time has gone on, more meanings have unfolded with each listen. For me, these tracks are a rebuttal to the endless churn of negativity in the news and online."
