BLOOD SIMPLE

E-mail Print PDF
Originally made in 1984, this is the first film by brothers Joel and Ethan Coen.
The brothers would later make a number of hit films including The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona and Fargo. Being a fan of both the directors and the film, I had to see the recently remastered theatrical re-release of this film. The remastered version truly brings out the outstanding cinematography and dark shadows which set the mood for this film noir classic. A new stereo soundtrack really brings out the excellent electronic score by Carter Burwell. The first time I saw Blood Simple was close to 10 years ago on video, I instantly fell in love with the dark story and edgy characters, a husband hires a private investigator to follow his wife who is cheating on him with one of his employees. Fans of film noir will enjoy it as a well directed art house film, while others may find it a bit slow. I personally think Joel Coen is one of the best modern directors and really doesn't get the credit he deserves, and together Joel and Ethan Coen are incredible writers and always come up with some very interesting stories. I hope you go support the independent films and check out this re-release before it's too late.
