NIGHT FORCE & THE TOM CATS Dance LP
Afrosynth Records present a reissue of Night Force & The Tom Cats' Dance, a South African disco album originally released in 1981. The title track "Dance", written by Belgian composer Frank Degrijse, was released by Night Force and became a hit throughout Europe in 1980. In South Africa the song was released with permission at a slower tempo (the original 45rpm was "officially" slowed down to 33rpm). Added to this are four tracks by Music Team's in-house production team, the Tom Cats -- including dub reworkings of Afrosynth releases "Burnin Beat" (AFS 034EP, 2017) and "Searchin", here released as "Hot Stuff" and "Search For Love" respectively. Synth-heavy oddities "You Are My Fire" and "Shake Shake" make up the rest of the track list.

FERRARI, LUC Atelier De Liberation De La Musique LP
Repressed. Alga Marghen present recordings from Luc Ferrari's Atelier De Libération De La Musique, a collective he created together with Martin Davorin Jagodic, Philippe Besombes, and Alain Petit in 1975 for a series of performances at the Galliera Museum in Paris. It was in those years that Luc Ferrari investigated open forms and created some of the most experimental and elusive works of his entire catalog. "Exercices D'improvisation", first recorded by Brunhild Ferrari with GOL, issued on PLANAM in 2010; but specially "Ou Donc Est-T-On?", a very complex piece forthcoming on Alga Marghen including both "Dance", issued on Alga Marghen on the occasion of the presentations at Centre Pompidou in 2009 and "Ephemere", issued on CD by Alga Marghen in 2010, as well as the "Labyrinthe De La Violence", an audio-visual permanent labyrinth for which Ferrari created four fantastic electronic music pieces forthcoming on Alga Marghen. After these experiences the composer decided to discontinue these open practices for a more controlled work in the studio. And within the "Labyrinthe De La Violence" installation Luc Ferrari conceived a series of electro-visual concerts to be performed by the newly created Atelier De Libération De La Musique. The collective included some of the most creative artists of the time: together with Luc Ferrari playing the electric organ you find on electric piano Martin Davoric Jagodic (whose masterpiece of electronic music titled Tempo Furioso was issued on Cramps in Italy that same year), on synthesizer Philippe Besombes (of Pole fame) and on sax, flute, and clarinet, Alain Petit (who was at the time collaborating with Besombes at the wonderful Besombes / Rizet double LP). These four artists met in February and March of 1975, rehearsing for a series of concerts to take place within the audio-visual labyrinth. It is the previously unheard recordings from these wild rehearsals which make up this incredible LP. The sound of Atelier De Libération De La Musique is a thrilling and overwhelming ride. Rattling, difficult polyrhythms play against droning, pulsing and simmering sonorities. These recordings are human and open, wild and incredibly ahead of their time. Obi strip; Edition of 500 (numbered).

HULSENBECK, P.A. Garden Of Stone CD
At first glance, Garden Of Stone, the inaugural solo record by P. A. Hülsenbeck, seems to ripple serpentine. Scales over flesh topple softly as a snake piles high in the dim. Garden Of Stone is a molt, a shedding of one old thing to reveal something new. But instead of the shirking off of some glistening scaled skin, the record's nine pieces shed the raw human experience and from its depths rises Hülsenbeck. His voice, like his image on the album cover, is hidden under each piece. He uses it as an instrument that drifts in from somewhere deep, dark, and below. In front, around, above, and underneath swim guitar, synthesizer, koto, saxophone, trumpet, horn, drums, and bass to provide a soft, lush foundation. From somewhere distant, each note carries the scent of pine, forgotten cabins, and damp but breezy oceans. Each piece in this album reminisces of a well-laid plot, they swell to retreat, ebb to flow and just as distortion begins to drift in, swift wind carries the melody away. This music is the outcome of the search for sound, a polyphonic reflection of the music itself. It moves in the darkness and dances in the open; exposed and forever drifting. When after Hülsenbeck's first band Sizarr ceased to exist, the musician radicalized his language under the Doomhound moniker. After one year of touring he shed his electronic hide to reveal something gentle and new. Hülsenbeck's new album dances the way flesh might, whether it be by serpent or some other body. Beginning in Leipzig, P. A. became engulfed in techniques that explore relationships between body and mind through exercises in expressive movement improvisation. In other words, he began to dance. Through those physical techniques, he found the philosophy that from now on determines his approach: turn the inside out without question and give it freely to the outside world. A process in which Hülsenbeck routinely finds himself practicing in the distinctive dreamland of Garden Of Stone. While "Anima", "Säule" and "Vessel" are instrumental, the other six pieces on "Garden Of Stone" tell stories that conjure up a person who blossoms in the ether behind; Hülsenbeck is truly himself. The record was produced by Hülsenbeck with his friend Tim Roth (Drangsal). It was recorded by Joe Haege and Fritz Brückner (White Wine), and also features Johannes Döpping (drums), Johanne Weber (basses), and Max Kraft (horn/trumpet).

UPSETTERS, THE Scratch The Upsetter Again LP
"'The inventive record producer and vocalist Lee 'Scratch' Perry was involved in every musical shift of note in his native Jamaica, from the rhythm and blues that pre-dated the arrival of ska in the early 1960s through the slower and more spacious rocksteady style that appeared mid-decade and, of course, the frenetic sound of reggae, which he helped to birth as an independent producer during the late 1960s. Operating as 'The Upsetter' from his base in a downtown Kingston record shop, Perry found his greatest success with instrumental music during this phase, the organ and saxophone re-castings of standard vocal issues proving exceptionally popular overseas. Scratch The Upsetter Again surfaced early in 1970 as a largely instrumental set, but with dreamy reverb a hefty feature and keyboards veering away from standard organ motifs. Dave Barker, who was soon to hit the pop charts as part of Dave & Ansel Collins, tackles The Shirelles' 'Will You Still Love Me' in soul reggae mode, only for Perry to shift things towards the emerging dub spectrum with 'Take One.' As Perry inched ever closer to the dub experimentation he would turn into an art form at his own Black Ark studio later in the decade, Scratch The Upsetter Again shows him moving away from the standard approaches of his competitors in his quest to test the very limits of recorded sound. And reggae was all the richer for it.' --David Katz (excerpt from the liner notes)"

OBERMAN KNOCKS Trilate Shift 2LP
Trilate Shift sees Oberman Knocks returning to Aperture Records following on from his last release Dilankex (2014), which featured an outstanding 17-minute remix from Autechre. Working on other projects during this time seems to have charged his creativity and Knocks now propels himself back into the fold for Trilate Shift, his third album with cleaner, more polished production and a change of direction which should certainly see his appeal rise across a wider audience. In 2018, Knocks produced the soundtrack to The Red Tree, an award-winning documentary film from Still Films (New York/Dublin) and in 2016 he was commissioned by The Lowry in Salford to produce a sound installation, 30 Days of The Smiths, forming part of their Week 53 festival, a version of which was also performed live. Trilate Shift sees Knocks serve up fourteen lustrous tracks of proficiency and divergent ingenuity encompassing interjections of disembodied vocals, setting the scene for a distinctive musical trajectory.

STALLION'S STUD STLLNSSTD 12"
Identified Patient and singer Hugo van Hejiningen (Red Light Radio) join forces on this four-track EP on Amsterdam's Artificial Dance. Stallion's Stud digs deep into their shared love of electronics, post-punk era experimentation, DIY music culture, and dubbed-out drum machine rhythms. "Promising Promises" sees Hugo's spoken vocals wrapped around ricocheting industrial dub rhythms and raw, delay-laden electronics. The delay trails to oblivion remain a force to be reckoned with on the cold-wave doom of "Instrumental Aria", while the throbbing and clanking "Unpredictable" and "The Voice Of No" ratchet up the intensity via end-of-days guitars, heavyweight bass and face-melting percussion."

MAZE & LINDHOLM Where The Wolf Has Been Seen LP
LP version; edition of 300, 180 gram in reverse-board heavyweight sleeve with spot varnish and download code. Aurora Borealis presents the debut album from Maze & Lindholm, Where The Wolf Has Been Seen. Combining the talents of P.Maze, one half of noise/techno duo Orphan Swords, with fellow Brussels-based producer and musician Otto Lindholm, Where The Wolf Has Been Seen is a meditative and claustrophobic work for electronics and double bass. The four parts evolve and spread outwards, throbbing bass drones colliding with slowly bowed arcs of keening strings that make for a deeply immersive listening experience. Where The Wolf Has Been Seen explores the boundaries of the modern classical and electronic disciplines, with slowly shifting and expanding compositions that thrive on the tension between them. Mastered by James Plotkin and cut for vinyl at The Carvery, East London. Cover photography by Solal Israel. A Brussels-based producer evolving between drone music and modern classical, Otto Lindholm employs an array of loop pedals and electronic effects in partnership with his double bass to produce rich and voluptuous tones. Lindholm came to light in 2016 with his debut eponymous LP; his second LP Alter (GZH 078LP, 2017), was introduced on BBC6 by Mary Anne Hobbs as an "extraordinary new LP. Deeply meditative". In 2018, he featured on the Houndstooth compilation In Death's Dream Kingdom, and he's also set to work with Black Rain's Stuart Argabright. P.Maze is half of the duo Orphan Swords. Orphan Swords's music has been released on Aurora Borealis, Desire Records, Clan Destine and Instruments Of Discipline. The duo has collaborated with Ike Yard, Helm, SHXCXCHCXSH, Emptyset, and many more. In 2018, Orphan Swords were invited to score the Walter Van Beirendonck show at Fashion Week Paris. That meeting resulted into a techno-driven album in collaboration with the designer, with a painting of Wouter Steel. Next to the furious maximal output of Orphan Swords, P.Maze is exploring a quieter and much more minimal side. This collaboration with Lindholm represents his first official output under that moniker; a solo debut album is in the works as well.

BETA BAND, THE Hot Shots II (Color Vinyl) 2LP+CD
Arguably one of the most acclaimed and loved bands of the past 20 years, by both fans and their musical peers alike, The Beta Band formed in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1996. Innovative and singular, their unique musical and aesthetic approach to everything they did set them far apart from their musical contemporaries. Together for a relatively short period of time, the three albums and three EPs they released between 1996 and 2004 would nonetheless help define them as one of the most exciting and cherished bands of their generation. After a short hiatus the band gradually gravitated back into the studio and recruited noted UK producer Colin Emmanuel, aka C-Swing, to oversee the process of Hot Shots II which was released in mid-2001. Notoriously the band had intended to release "Squares", which featured a sample from the Günter Kallmann Choir's 1970 version of Wallace Collection's "Daydream", as the lead single. However, after filming the music video and taking the single to radio it suddenly transpired that another single "Daydream In Blue" by I Monster featuring the sample from Günter Kallmann Choir recording was also to be released at the same time causing the band to release "Broke" instead. Touring extensively and supporting Radiohead in August 2002, they made No. 3 on Q magazine's list of "50 Bands to See Before You Die". Limited edition color double-LP version includes CD; Comes in gatefold sleeve; One golden vinyl and one silver vinyl, both with printed inner-sleeves; Edition of 1000.

LUCIER, ALVIN So You ... (Hermes, Orpheus, Eurydice) CD
So You ... (Hermes, Orpheus, Eurydice) is a major new work by legendary experimental composer Alvin Lucier. It is an hour-long epic that tracks the familiar Orpheus myth from a less familiar perspective: that of Eurydice as imagined by poet H.D. (Hilda Doolittle); a Eurydice who rails at Orpheus for his hubris in attempting to rescue her. So You ... (Hermes, Orpheus, Eurydice) was originally commissioned by Documenta 14 and first performed as part of Documenta in Athens in 2017. Two key, and formerly distinct, aspects of Lucier's practice come together in this piece: the exploration of interference patterns in closely tuned intervals, and the exploration of resonant chambers. From speakers mounted inside amphorae a constantly turning braid of beating sine waves trace the descent into the depths of hell, and then the doomed attempt to climb back into life. Singer Jessika Kenney and long-time Lucier collaborators Anthony Burr and Charles Curtis embody the three title characters in deeply focused performances that assert themselves against the process of the sweep, or become enfolded in it. The electronics were mixed in real time by programmer and equipment designer Tom Erbe. This record has all of the mind-bending acoustic effects expected from a Lucier piece, but also features a strong sense of narrative drama and flashes of raw emotion that are unexpected and deeply affecting. Design by Lasse Marhaug. Mastered by Doug Henderson at micro-moose, Berlin. Presented in a deluxe digipak with a booklet featuring the original poem and extensive notes by Lucier, Burr and Cathy Gere.

FORNO, CARLA DAL You Know What It's Like LP
2018 repress. LP version. Carla dal Forno presents her debut solo album You Know What It's Like, following time in cult Melbourne group Mole House and an earlier association with Blackest Ever Black as a member of F ingers and Tarcar. Her voice is an extraordinary instrument: both disarmingly conversational and glacially detached. It has something of the bedsit urbanity of Anna Domino, Marine Girls, Antena, or Helen Johnstone - stoned and deadpan - but it can also summon a gothic intensity that Nico or Kendra Smith would approve of. This voice is the perfect embodiment of dal Forno's emotionally ambiguous songs: their lyrics rooted in the everyday, observing and exposing a series of uncomfortable truths. "Fast Moving Cars" and "What You Gonna Do Now?" weigh up claustrophobia against loneliness, inertia against acceleration, doubling-down versus taking-off; the title track acknowledges the provisional nature of love and "real" intimacy, then decides to brave it anyway. By the time the startlingly sparse "The Same Reply" arrives, the sense of dejection is absolute. The vocal-led pieces are interspersed with richly evocative instrumentals. Smothered in tape-hiss and reverb, the seasick synthesizer miniatures "Italian Cinema" and "Dragon Breath" channel the twilit DIY whimsy of Flaming Tunes and Call Back The Giants. The drum machine and bassline of "DB Rip" are pure Chicago house, but then its dark choral drones nod to Dalis Car's dreams of blood-spattered Cornwall stone. "Dry The Rain" drinks from a stream of moon-musick that runs through Coil, In Gowan Ring, Third Ear Band, even the Raincoats's Odyshape (1981).

CANNIBALE Not Easy To Cook CD
Cannibale return to Born Bad Records with Not Easy To Cook, their second album. If Cannibale's members brought their breakfast back up when talking about Not Easy To Cook, their listeners would be surprised. These fortysomethings signed by Born Bad Records, the image of greaser-looking garage rockers would come to mind, but with bits of exotica stuck between the teeth, Nino Nardini and Roger Roger's Jungle Obsession (1971) on the turntable, and plastic-bottled tropical glam puked by some incarnation of Wayne's World's (1992) Mike Myers. Why mention all this? Because there's a world of difference between the beginning of Cannibale's success story and this, their second album. It wouldn't take much to feel as if Freddie Mercury showed up in a Renault 16 to play marimba for old oafish rock fans. And actually, that's about it: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) meets Fela Kuti in rain boots. Between No Mercy For Love (BORNBAD 094CD/LP, 2017) and Not Easy To Cook, the group did not switch from psyche cumbia to coarse-grained autotune, but rather roamed roads like doped cyclists, playing more than 100 dates in less than a year, and a eulogistic press review; Johnny Hallyday himself did not get such media coverage! So what's Cannibale's secret? Being old and giving 19-year-old kids who just discovered marimba tutorials on YouTube a thrashing? Certainly, but it's a little more than a band of old fogeys. "The band learned it all on the road in less than two years," says Born Bad's Jean-Baptiste Guillot. Songwriting-wise, they've known how to do for a long time. The members, survivors of various projects, succeeded because nothing else than music mattered anymore. In that, the band's deviant trajectory is not so different from Vox Low's. But the most surprising thing about "Not Easy To Cook is the sultriness that emerges. It's hard to sum it up other than by comparing these ten songs with some pressure cooker in which bits of dancehall, London ska and Hawaiian dub would have cooked together. The small miracle achieved by this album, recorded by the band in its remote French village: sounding French, but Polynesian French. With Not Easy To Cook, frogs, birds, and sounds from the jungle can be heard in a living room. Those already traumatized by Arthur Lyman's vibraphone and Les Baxter's lounge music should feel at home.

CLUSTER Curiosum LP
Repressed. LP version with color inner sleeve and liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. Originally released on Sky Records in 1981, Bureau B reissues Cluster's Curiosum -- the sixth duo collaboration between Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Curiosum was to mark a departure to pastures new. Little did they know that this would be their last release for the next nine years. Curiosum was launched into an atmosphere of musical turbulence. Electronic sounds had become commonplace in pop music and the voice of Cluster could barely be heard through the noise of a new generation of music. Curiosum is a decidedly tranquil, almost melancholy album -- quiet being the operative word, as Cluster slipped out of the limelight. It was recorded in rudimentary fashion in Austria, now home to Roedelius. This is Cluster music at its most serene, a sense of profound humility running through the seven tracks of the LP. It says a lot about the state of mind of the two musicians, allied to the fact that this was the first time they chose to mix outside of Conny Plank's studio where, in the past, the finishing touches had been applied. Roedelius and Moebius laid their cards on the table for all to see, offering up Curiosum as an honest, unadorned selection of tracks, free of artifice and preconception. The album represented a return to the virtues of their early work (when Cluster was written with a "K"), random and spontaneous. Curiosum is nothing if not a curiosity, wholly resistant to the cacophonous zeitgeist of the early '80s, stripped down and keenly focused on perfect shapes. This is Cluster's swan-song to the past.

MAGNE, MICHEL Musique Tachiste LP
2018 repress, 2013 release. Cacophonic presents a reissue of Michel Magne's Musique Tachiste, originally released in 1959. As the debut release on Finders Keepers' experimental/jazz/avant-garde imprint, Cacophonic releases Musique Tachiste, the first in a series of rare records by French experimentalist Magne. Musique Tachiste is one of the very earliest full-length French concept albums: part radical manifesto, part pantomime. This anti-intellectual "physical" reaction to the burgeoning Musique Concrete movement combines found sounds and industrial noise with piano jazz alongside imposing avant-garde orchestral elements and Magne's own hammered cimbalom flourishes. This unique debut LP also provides an early insight into a fruitful soundtrack/conceptual jazz career collaborating with Jean-Claude Vannier, Martial Solal, and Artie Kaplan, as well as founding the French Strawberry Studio at Château d' Hérouville where French groups like Magma, Catherine Ribeiro, Brigitte Fontaine, and Ange shared a diary with Terry Riley and Pink Floyd. As a dedicated producer of thematic composition, anti-intellectual experimental performance and modern jazz, Magne was also a well-respected pioneer of France's signature film score sound of the late '60s. Musique Tachiste marks a stylistic cross roads where the likes of Egisto Macchi, Harry Partch, Rolf Liebermann, and Igor Wakhevitch meet; this LP is an essential forefather of European conceptual pop made at the start of a career that begat a discography of challenging albums before his untimely suicide in the early 1980s. Presented here for the first time since its initial humble pressing in its unabridged entirety complete with its collectible illustrated sleeve art, this LP stands as the perfect debut release and musical modus operandi for this new archival imprint.

VATH, SVEN In the Mix: The Sound of the 19th Season 2CD
Sven Väth returns with another volume of In The Mix: The Sound Of The 19th Season. To this day, Väth represents the electronic music scene like no other DJ. In the nineties he was mentor and shaman, operating from Frankfurt and introducing us to the world of electronic music. After these crazy, extroverted years, Väth created the Cocoon family as a global platform for he and his colleagues´s activities. Väth has always been for the scene "Baba", which means dad in Hessian dialect. Today he is the "Baba" for a new generation of DJs; music is not about strategizing your niche potential. It does not matter if a tune is approved by the opinion makers. It's about what you feel personally and what you can create with the music in your work as a DJ. To this day, Väth manages to play tracks that you wouldn't expect and puts them in a context you would not expect either. Like no one else he succeeds in arranging the entire electronic music cosmos, from restrained deep house to euphoric techno into one, amazing narrative. Besides Frankfurt, Ibiza is Väth's musical home. After 18 years at Club Amnesia, he and his Cocoon crew moved to Pacha to start a new chapter on the seminal island. You don´t get a clue from In The Mix: The Sound Of The 19th Season if he had some trouble finding his way in the new location. The season of 2018 is over, but Väth gives us no time for wistful feelings. After the furious closing of Ibiza in October, he retreats to his Ayurveda ritual. Then he sets off for the Sound Of The Season tour which takes him to South America, among other destinations. After New Year's Eve, he vacations in Asia, taking in inspirations. He will let the season of 2018 pass in his inner mind's eye devising a plan how to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cocoon on Ibiza with the crazy that he will cook up! Features: Nightmares On Wax, Love Over Entropy, Adam Port, Emanuel Satie, Florian Hollerith, Talaboman, Levon Vincent, Vermont, Edward, L.B. THING Thing LP
"In 2016, Cultures of Soul Records released Boston Creative Jazz Scene 1970-1983, a groundbreaking compilation spotlighting the often-overlooked progressive jazz environment that thrived in Beantown through the seventies into the eighties. Now, following up on this groundbreaking work, Cultures of Soul is proud to present a crisp reissue of the eponymous (and sole) album by the Boston jazz-fusion outfit Thing. Formed by confederates who met at the Berklee School of Music and led by the creatively restless saxophonist and jazz educator Arni Cheatham, Thing were a regular fixture in Boston clubs in the seventies, as comfortable plying the rock and funk idioms as they were in jazz. Their 1972 album documents two of their live sets, showcasing their simmering, funky and spiritual freeform jazz, very much in the vein of early seventies jazz-rock experiments by Miles Davis, Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The two suites featured on the album are fully improvised, featuring the musicians spontaneously generating and developing musical motifs in real time, bouncing ideas off each other in a communion that is equally suitable for meditating...or dancing like tomorrow will never arrive. Thing is a worthy glimpse into the experimentation and adventurousness that made the seemingly uptight city of Boston a magnet for musical mavericks."

YORUBA SINGERS Fighting For Survival LP
"Having remained continuously active since 1971, the Yoruba Singers are the longest-running musical group in Guyana. Emerging from a music scene mostly dominated by slick, commercial entertainment, the Yoruba Singers brought a new dimension to Guyana popular music, cooking up a potent stew of afrocentric vibes, steeped in a committed invocation of the country's African heritage. The Yoruba Singers released several recordings during their imperial period in the nineteen seventies and eighties, but what is broadly regarded as the group's magnum opus is the 1981 album Fighting For Survival. The album sums up the group's first decade of operation, serving up a heavy mix of calypso, jazzy funk, reggae and afrobeat. Initially released on the short-lived Interculture label and later reissued on a Guyana-only compact disk, the album has long been more talked about than actually heard. But thanks to Cultures of Soul a new edition is now available in wide release, and with it comes the opportunity to experience some of the deepest grooves the Caribbean has to offer!"

BIG JOANIE Sistahs LP
The first record in the Daydream Library series is London's black feminist punk band Big Joanie's debut album Sistahs. Big Joanie are Stephanie Phillips (singer/guitarist), Estella Adeyeri (bass) and Chardine Taylor-Stone (drums). The band formed in 2013 and released their first EP, Sistah Punk in 2014 and the single Crooked Room in 2016. As part of London's thriving DIY punk scene Big Joanie have played with locals Shopping, toured with US punks Downtown Boys, and Dutch punk band The Ex. Inspired by The Ronettes, Nirvana, Breeders, and Jesus and Mary Chain, Big Joanie have described themselves as being "similar to The Ronettes filtered through '80s DIY and Riot Grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis." Big Joanie recorded Sistahs at Hermitage Works Studio with producer Margo Broom. The album title derives from the band's belief in sisterhood and female friendship. One of the main reasons for coming together was to create an atmosphere to be "completely ourselves as black women and discover what was possible to realize in those spaces." The album cover features Steph's mum Joan, whom the band is named after, and her aunt on holiday in Wales. The Daydream Library Series of records and tapes is the independent house label of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Eva Prinz's publishing imprint Ecstatic Peace Library. The Daydream Series was established in 2018 to provide a label for emerging musicians, both local and international. In this series curated by Prinz, Moore, and Abby Banks, a limited edition number of vinyl or cassette albums will be released in a pristine "collector's edition" package with the highest quality recordings, impeccable design and handmade fanzines with the album's liner notes and interviews with the bands. Sistahs is an optimistic album about friendship, melancholic memories, and the belief in a modern future. Eva and Thurston discovered Big Joanie playing live supporting The Ex in Islington (London) earlier this spring and ran to the merch table to discover the band didn't have a record with all the songs that had just mesmerized the audience.

MASTERS OF REALITY Masters Of Reality LP
"One can't speak of California's famed desert rock movement without mentioning the visionary producer/musician Chris Goss. The so-called Godfather of the Joshua Tree-centered scene, Goss has produced famed and acclaimed albums by groups like Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Kyuss, Screaming Trees, and numerous others. Before he was known as a renowned producer though, he was the singer/guitarist, and only consistent member of one of the most influential-yet-forgotten hard rock groups of all time: Masters of Reality. Masters Of Reality (whose name was appropriately taken from a Black Sabbath song) had the distinction of being the only group signed to two different hip-hop labels of historical note: Def Jam and Delicious Vinyl. Originally label mates with Public Enemy and Slayer, Masters Of Reality's self-titled debut album was released by Def American in 1988. Two years later, Delicious Vinyl founders Matt Dike and Mike Ross, huge Masters fans, bought the band's contract from Rick Rubin and re-released the album with new cover artwork to renewed acclaim and commercial success. So many years later, Masters Of Reality's debut still feels like a hard-hitting breath of fresh air in a modern landscape of over-produced rock music. It's in this sense of tribute that Delicious Vinyl presents this re-issue of the acclaimed record. The audio has been re-mastered, and its original 'Blue Garden' artwork has been restored, while Rick Rubin's hard rock production chops shine bright, and blare loudly in equal measure, on highlights like the foot-stomping 'John Brown', the frantic live-staple 'Domino', and proto-stoner pieces like 'Doraldina's Prophecies' and 'Kill The King.' Pressed on translucent blue vinyl."

JIBOIA OOOO LP
Earlier this decade, when O?scar Silva chose his alias Jibo?ia, he was already thinking of the variations his music would take on in each record. Jibo?ia is Portuguese for boa constrictor and by his fourth record his instincts and ability to change over his sound and search for different collaborators to reach his intentions was manifest. After collaborating with the likes of Makoto Yagyu, Sequin, Xinobi, Ricardo Martins, and Jonathan Saldanha on his previous records, in OOOO he goes deep into interconnecting his music with other musicians/past collaborators. Joined by Martins and Andre? Pinto, O?scar created a record that sounded like Jibo?ia with the direct collaboration of the musicians that accepted the invitation. And what does it means to sound like Jibo?ia? A fluent and rich dialogue between outer-world sounds mixed with a free jazz approach to rock. It's music that's doing soul-searching without any space or time barriers. It flows as it should; OOOO is no different. Inspired by the philosophy of Pythagoras and his concept Musica Universalis, it speaks about an interspatial harmony created by the movement of the planets and the sound frequency it creates. It's a poetic theory that imagines the sound produced by the movement of the planets and what we can listen to when we listen to the universe. The first three tracks are a reference to those frequencies and the last one, "Topos", references an idea of accomplishment, of arrival and the sum of the experience. OOOO is a bit of a trip, a voyage of imagined sounds produced by three musicians in a constant dialogue, and with a different focus in each track. Each of the first three tracks are developed with a focus on the instruments of each musician, while the other two expand and enrich the range of the initial movement. On the final one, they explore the flux of ideas each brings to OOOO. However, it's not intended to be a conclusion or an end to OOOO; it's an open circuit of ideas that reinforces the free-minded rock that the three musicians explore, creating a new place where their music finds new routines. It just makes one want to go back to the beginning, again and again, reinforcing the feeling that Jibo?ia belongs to this world without sounding like anything from this world. MULL, JOEL Magnets 12"
Joel Mull's first solo release on Distillery Records. "Magnetum" is an industrially-tinged blend of techno, building on filtered polyrhythmic elements, a swelling bass, and subtly implemented pads. "Momentum" ventures down to even deeper levels of machine room ambience sonically, a massive big room weapon. "Connected" comes embedded in crackling and rustling soundscapes, but its kickdrum is out to blow off any sonic haze to make way for an acid theme. This very tune gets a remix treatment by Mathimidori, aka Mathias Kaden, who's turning the character of the tune into a rather chilled-out, groove accenting, dub-resonating state of matter.

Doxy presents a reissue of Cecil Taylor and Buell Neidlinger's New York City R&B originally issued in 1972, recorded in 1961. Two nights in January, 1961, high up on West 57th St. A fantastic line-up. Nat Hentoff, in the original liner notes: "I asked Buell Neidlinger about the title of the album: New York City R&B. 'That's what it is', he answered. 'We were all based in New York City then. The session, moreover, has two blues ('O.P.' and 'Things Ain't What They Used To Be') and one of the songs, 'Cindy's Main Mood', has an l-got-rhythm set up. 'Cell Walk'? Well, that's Cecil.' It would be difficult, as well as pointless, to label the music on this Neidlinger/Taylor album. It is of itself, and is so strongly original that it has not dated in the least. Taylor and Neidlinger, to be sure, have gone on and beyond; but what they did on those nights in January is going to last forever." WILLIAMS, MARS An Ayler Xmas Volume 2 CD
A product of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians who studied with AACM founders Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell, saxophonist Mars Williams is most famous as a member of The Psychedelic Furs but has proven his jazz bona fides with Peter Brötzmann and Ken Vandermark and while guiding Liquid Soul and Hal Russell's NRG Ensemble, to name just a few. His rock CV is also varied, including many years in Akron new wave band The Waitresses and work with Billy Idol, Ministry, Massacre, and many more. He also leads the Albert Ayler tribute band Witches & Devils, and out of their holiday concerts grew a unique tradition. One look at this album's track titles and you'll understand the concept here. One listen and you'll hear that, as odd as that concept may seem, it's brilliantly effective, with the disparate melodies working together in their common projection of joy and celebration. And it's worth noting that Williams's worlds collide on track three here, featuring The Waitresses's biggest hit, "Christmas Wrapping", as he played on their original recording. After enjoying An Ayler Xmas Vol. 1 (2017) last year, ESP-Disk' invited him to make Vol. 2 a co-release of Williams's Soul What Records and ESP-Disk', the top Ayler label. Personnel: Mars Williams - saxes, toy instruments; Josh Berman - cornet; Fred Lonberg-Holm - cello; Jim Baker - piano, ARP synthesizer, viola; Kent Kessler - bass; Brian Sandstrom - bass, guitar, trumpet; Steve Hunt - drums, percussion; Jeb Bishop - trombone; Thomas Berghammer - trumpet; Hermann Stangassinger - bass; Didi Kern - drums, percussion; Christof Kurzmann - lloopp, vocals.

ITIBERE ORQUESTRA FAMILIA Pedra do Espia 2CD
Far Out Recordings presents a reissue of Itibere Orquestra Familia's Pedra do Espia, originally released in 2001. Itiberê Zwarg is an award-winning Brazilian bassist and the longest-serving member of Hermeto Pascoal's ground-breaking ensemble O Grupo. Since their first meeting in 1977, the two have been closely collaborating to create a unique musical language: a genre-defying polyharmonic, polyrhythmic music, now widely studied by musicians and musicologists alike, known as "Universal Music". Back in 2001, Itiberê led a workshop at Villa Lobos School of Music, with twenty-nine of Rio de Janeiro's most exceptionally talented young musicians. Employing the principles of Universal Music alongside his long-held belief in the powers of listening and intuition, Itiberê composed and arranged in real time, transcribing the improvisations of the prodigious orchestra while allowing the players total freedom to experiment. The result was Pedra do Espia, an Amazonian orchestral masterpiece which is as difficult to categorize as it is fun to listen to. Named after the beachside viewing point which translates as 'Spy's Rock', where Itiberê would sit as a child, daydreaming and gazing out over the Brazilian coast, the record harnesses the pure creativity of youth and nature, creating a magical sense of innocence amongst the striking compositions and astonishing musicianship. On the original liner notes from the 2001 CD release, Itiberê guarantees the record to be "surprising in its uniqueness, it's harmonic richness, it's exuberant melodies and rhythmic variations like nothing heard before." Presented here as a 16-track double CD, Far Out Recordings are honored to present this overlooked masterpiece from one of the greatest minds in Brazilian instrumental music."Itiberê Zwarg Orquestra Família make universal music. After the release of the successful soundtrack for the TV series Gomorra (which was aired outside Italy as well) the Italian combo Mokadelic returns with a brand new score, Sulla Mia Pelle, for one the most controversial movies around. Based on the despicable history of Stefano Cucchi, literally killed in prison by a bunch of policemen, the album renews the cinematic style of Mokadelic through a series of almost dramatic instrumental sketches. Equally informed by the post-rock of luminaries such as Godspeed You Black Emperor and Explosions In The Sky -- not to mention the subtle rhythms of contemporary IDM (Boards Of Canada first came to mind) -- the band delivers their signature with several epic moments. That is the real companion to a tragic feature film.

SYMARIP Skinhead Moonstomp/Must Catch A Train 7"
"7' inch singles were instrumental to the development of the Jamaican music industry, more affordable than full lengths for the consumer, they also allowed the labels to turnaround what was being recorded into music played from their booming sound systems as quickly as possible. In that spirit, Get On Down will be reissuing some of the most crucial reggae and ska sides on 45. This issue marks a slight departure in the series as Symarip were not a Jamaican group but had their origins in the UK. By the time 'Skinhead Moonstomp' was released as a single in 1969, reggae had spread its influence into the UK to such an extent that it changed British music for good. Symarip were the first group to work to directly appeal to UK skinhead culture, creating the climate that allowed for the explosion of the two tone movement in the late 1970s. Yet it was only on the singles' reissue in 1980 that the cut hit the UK charts, landing at #54. So, to paraphrase the song's intro, get up on your feet, put your braces together and your boots on your feet, it's time again for some of that old moonstompin'."

TROPICS, THE As Time's Gone LP
2018 repress. Hailing from Florida, The Tropics were one of the finest '60s garage bands. Their memorable concerts are still remembered today by the lucky ones who saw them at the time. Between 1965 and 1969, they recorded some explosive and now legendary 45s which are prime examples of garage-rock, teen-beat, folk-rock and proto-psych sounds. Here you'll find most of those 45 sides along with some rare, previously-unreleased-on-vinyl tracks. Including the classic "As Time's Gone" (covered by The Fuzztones) and many more. Remastered sound in mono, insert with detailed liner-notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things) and rare photos. "In 1965 The Tropics were the biggest band in Florida... simple as that. I watched them in awe." --Tom Petty.

SCORPIONS & SAIF ABU BAKR, THE Jazz, Jazz, Jazz CD
"Incredibly unique modernized adaptations of traditional rhythms of the diverse regions of Sudan, recorded in Kuwait 1980. The 'holy grail' album from Sudan. 'I heard about Seif Abu Bakr and The Scorpions maybe 3-4 years ago. Their album Jazz, Jazz Jazz ended up on my radar because of an eBay auction with the bids eventually rising daily up to a staggering 1000$. The music is a unique combination of incredible horn arrangements powerfully performed, a vigorous drummer contributing a funky backbone and Seif's vocals uniting those elements. The results range from instrumental tracks awaking memories of 1970s crime thriller soundtracks to more Sudanese-rooted tracks, a lot of them modernized versions traditional rhythms of the diverse regions of Sudan and even an excursion into Colgolese Soukouss. The jazz scene started to perish after president Nimeiry's turn away from his socialist policies, that he was widely associated with in the first decade of his rule, towards the implementation of Sharia law in 1983. During the first decade of his rule he had actively supported various artists of the Jazz scene, taking some of them on trips throughout Africa. The 1989 coup of Bashir and his generals then caused the final blow to a once thriving scene. Both of these political events within 6 years lead to significant drawbacks for the Sudanese jazz scene resulting into hardly no gig opportunities left and parties and concerts being critically observed. A number of musicians faced prosecution, most of the time for their political views; some left Sudan for good. Music never completely vanished from public life and even the regime kept selected artists close, but for a majority of those bands affiliated to the jazz scene life and making ends became a lot harder. The Scorpions dissolved as a group around the same time. The re-release was produced with a clean copy of the vinyl version as a source. The original reel tape of the album stayed with Saif Abu Bakr along with another reel with other recordings that were never released. Unfortunately it was lost when Saif Abu Bakr had to flee to Kuwait temporarily during the second gulf war when Iraq raided Kuwait. Both the CD and vinyl version come with extensive booklets with photos, interviews, liner notes. The vinyl version also has a DLL code. (Jannis Stuerz / Habibi Funk Records, 2018)."

TRENTEMOLLER Harbour Boat Trips Vol. 02: Copenhagen CD
For Harbour Boat Trips Vol. 02: Copenhagen, Trentemøller curated and crafted sixteen songs into a heavy, hazy mix. The music on this mix ranges from shoegaze to electronica, featuring both familiar and celebrated artists like A Place to Bury Strangers (with a new Trentemøller remix) and Slowdive to more obscure finds, as well as Trentemøller's own tracks and remixes, most notably a brand new Trentemøller cover of Neil Young's classic "Transformer Man". Trentemøller's newest project is the second volume of the Harbour Boat Trips mix series. The mix sees him pick up a thread he left off earlier in his career: in 2009 he put together Harbour Boat Trips 01: Copenhagen (HFN 001CD, 2009), a compilation mix comprised of his favorite music, both Danish and international, from across four decades, loosely inspired by the motion and movement of Copenhagen's busy harbor. Closing in on a decade later, the second edition has arrived. "Sometimes, it's nice to take a break from my own stuff and present some of the music that I like and music that inspires me", says Trentemøller. The diversity of his musical knowledge and taste is reflected in the variety of places and times the tracks are sourced from, from old Danish cult classics to some of the best new artists to surface in recent years like Paris' Pyrit and Posh Isolation's CTM. What perhaps unites the songs on the mix is their sense of heaviness, of artistic depth. There's nothing throwaway or frivolous here, a mix stretching from industrial to shoegaze instead hitting the listener in the hard places. Trentemøller's mixing highlights the qualities the songs share, their darkness but also their strange, cold beauty and ability to captivate. Despite the songs being pulled from very different places, they share a certain spirit and form a coherent artistic unit for an hour-long musical journey. Also features: The Raveonettes, How Do I, Kira Skov, The Lollipops, Tropic Of Cancer, Black Marble, John Maus, Moon Duo, The KVB, and Levin Goes Lightly. Digipak, 12 page booklet.

VA Spiritual Jazz 2: Europe 2LP
Limited restock. Deluxe gatefold double LP version with color inserts and on 180 gram vinyl. As the '60s progressed, cultural and political revolutions occurred both in the U.S. and in Europe. Jazz was both a victim and a savior, with radical developments in the music occurring on both continents. In the U.S., artists took control of their own musical destiny as small labels broke away from the mainstream, expressing new and creative visions of freedom and peace against a backdrop of civil unrest, repression and war. In '60s Europe, the jazz community forged ahead with a different revolution; that of breaking away from mere emulation of their American counterparts. A distinctive, European jazz sound began to develop that combined traditional music from across Europe and around the world with the creative freedom so abundant in American jazz. Over time, the most forward-thinking creative talents of the post-Coltrane European jazz generation crafted and nurtured sophisticated and multi-faceted styles of jazz that were as radical as they were beautiful, giving modern jazz a characteristically European flavor. The music is a heady mix indeed; stirring jazz overtures with orchestra and choir, festival performances recorded live from the grassy heartlands of central Europe, modal montages inspired by pilgrimages to Asia and Africa, experiments in rhythm and sound where modern jazz meets traditional Balkan and flamenco folk music. This is spiritual jazz, European-style. All tracks fully licensed and digitally restored from the original master tapes.

VA A New Life, Vol. II: Independent and Regional Jazz in Great Britain 1968-1988 CD
Jazzman Records deliver A New Life, Vol. II: Independent and Regional Jazz in Great Britain 1968-1988, continuing their series of under-heard jazz from the UK. It's been three years since Jazzman's A New Life (JMAN 075CD/LP, 2015) alerted jazz heads to the existence of an unknown world of British jazz private pressings and indie obscurities. Back for a second round, compilers Francis Gooding and Duncan Brooker have dug deep into the archives to assemble another ground-breaking collection of Brit jazz anomalies and outliers from the 1970s and 1980s. A New Life, Vol. II picks up the story where A New Life left off, searching out overlooked jazz gems from across the length and breadth of the British Isles. When the major labels and the record industry left jazz out in the cold, musicians and jazz enthusiasts took the initiative. Indie labels made space for established artists and experimental outsiders alike, while local groups and youth bands turned to private pressings to document their music and build their own scenes. From London blues renegade Billy Jenkins's spiritual tribute to Pharoah Sanders and the swinging vocal artistry of Belfast-born Gerry McClelland, to the thunderous big band sound of Leicester's Music Explosion and the modal drama of the Don Rendell Five, A New Life, Vol. II reveals another fascinating layer of forgotten Brit jazz history. Fully researched and presented with in depth liner notes, Jazzman Records again brings you the unheard, unorthodox and under-rated sound of the British jazz underground! Also features: Frank Evans, Hotpoints, Inner Ear, RedBrass, Big Sun, Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, Robert Shaw & the Dick Hawdon Quintet, Big Baffle, and Pat Crumly Sextet. CD with liners and photos.

"Limited edition green & red splattered vinyl LP, 1972 French studio recording. The legendary Detroit band. Their first single (included here as extra tracks) was released in 1967, they went on to be the 'Official White Panther Party Band' preaching revolutionary ideology alongside dope, sex and r'n'r. They played the infamous 1968 Democratic Convention that turned into a police riot. Their manager, John Sinclair became a hippie martyr after being jailed for 10 years for two joints, inspiring John Lennon's '10 For 2' song. They were thrown off their first label, Electra, and signed to Atlantic for two more albums. Now greatly revered as one of the seminal rock'n'roll bands and a huge inspiration for punk. Thunder Express documents their first and last studio work - six tracks recorded in France in '72 at Studio Castle Herouville for a TV show; plus 4 tracks from their first two singles from 1966 and 1968. The title track is a previously unreleased song unavailable elsewhere. Two extra tracks from the rare earliest single 'Borderline', are added. ERRANTE, EMANUELE The Evanescence Of A Thousand Colors CD
Ever since his widely-acclaimed debut Migrations was released in 2006, tone color has always been an important aspect of Emanuele Errante's music. Drawing from both electronic and acoustic sources, his compositions paint impressionistic vignettes with sonic intensities. His fourth album, The Evanescence Of A Thousand Colors, his second solo release on the Berlin-based Karaoke Kalk label, deals more explicitly with color than before. The album's title plays with the double meaning of term and was inspired by a TEDx Talk by the American scientist Pratyusha Pilla on the subject of colorism, i.e. discrimination based solely on skin tone. "I felt like I wanted to say something about the shameful racist regurgitation that we are experiencing in almost all the countries that claim to be the champions of civilization," says the Italian composer about the topic that informed his new album. "Pratyusha lit a light in me." In fact, a passage of her lecture is sampled on the album's centerpiece "Beauty", making Pitta a protagonist of the album on which voice can be heard loud and clearly. Errante's music feeds on gentle guitar sounds, classical instrumentation, field recordings, and electronic elements that range from rhythmic ambient to granular noise. The eight tracks at times recall the early works of Oval and Fennesz or even Aphex Twin while showcasing the Italian's trademark approach to electroacoustic minimalism. As a follow-up to Errante's recent collaboration album with Dakota Suite and Dag Rosenqvist (KK 107CD/LP, 2018) on the sonically rich soundscapes of The Evanescence Of A Thousand Colors again highlight the importance of listening to one another; they are an almost wordless appeal for a more colorful world.

RABBIT RABBIT RADIO Vol. 3: Year Of The Wooden Horse CD
"Rabbit Rabbit Radio is the song-spinning duo of Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi. Collectively, they are founding members of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tin Hat, 2 Foot Yard, Causing a Tiger, The Book of Knots, and Fred Frith's Cosa Brava. Drawing on their love of both art & folk song, industrial & improvised music and heart-wrenching balladry, their songs are raw, beautiful, sparse and rich. Originally these songs came out on the duo's bandcamp page. Subscribers got new songs as soon as they were finished, later these were collected into album format. Rabbit Rabbit Radio Vol. 1 was released on CD in 2013 by the band themselves. Klanggalerie are happy to present you Volume 3 for the first time ever on CD. These songs are a missing link between rock/pop and the avanatgarde. Carla Kihlstedt says: 'The songs I write sit on the border between popular music and art song. Where exactly, depends on the subject matter and on the language and strengths of the performers I'm working with. I've never worried that one kind of audience won't understand the other kind of song. Every listener has their own musical reference points, but I've always found people across the (hypothetical) divide to be incredibly open-minded and generous.' Guests featured on this album include Fred Frith, Shahzad Ismaily, Chandler Travis, Jon Evans, Mark Orton, Nels Cline and others."

FIELD, THE Infinite Moment 2LP
Repressed; Double LP version. Two years on from his last outing, The Follower (KOMP 130CD/KOM 350LP, 2016), Axel Willner puts on his Field suit again to present his sixth full-length effort for Kompakt, Infinite Moment. Infinite Moment sees him striding further across the deeper, richer rims of the hue cycle. In Willner's own words, "the threshold of creating something new had to be broken", as had been done with his past albums, including his acclaimed debut From Here We Go Sublime (KOMP 057CD/KOMRSD 002LP, 2007). For Willner, "stepping outside of the studio opened up fresh perspectives on the creation of new music"; it was the opening cut, "Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone", that got him into the flux of things, "making of the rest of the album easier as I went". Substituting the up-tempo vim of his previous pieces for a sense of mind-expanding horizontality, Infinite Moment is an album filled with hope and draped in a diffuse, appeasing light, easing the pain and troubles of the human soul through a lushly forested recital of shoegazing modular, complex textural interplays and solar, atmospheric fractals. "Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone" gets the ball rolling on a thumping down-tempo note, which as Willner explains, "gives me a lot of hope". "Hope is something I've been missing in the nowadays climate and this album is a relief to me, a type of comfort, like a moment that feels good and you don't want to end." "Divide Now" is a sonic mitosis, engaging the metamorphosis to come; like a larvae pupating and reemerging weeks later from under rough bark in the form of a butterfly - fluttering breaks shed their skin to make way for a more intimate and hypnotic second chapter. "Hear Your Voice" propels the lavish, pad-upholstered glamour of its melodic lines in a bolder syncopated re-visitation of 1980s-indebted pop harmonics, while "Something Left, Something Right, Something Wrong" returns to a flaring post-euphoric daze. A more arrhythmic affair, "Who Goes There" spins out into orbit wildly, fusing acid bass moves with a haunting motorik, playing with the listener's mind intensely before the ten-minute-long epic "Infinite Moment" ushers its listener into a highly immersive final ballet of buzzing chords, trampling drums and all-consuming drones. This album is a direct soul-to-soul transmission, aiming no further than at finding the right balance between contained emotion and an expressive eloquence.

VA Pop Ambient 2019 2LP
Double LP version; gatefold sleeve, includes download. Wolfgang Voigt (aka GAS)-curated series, Pop Ambient returns with a change of pace. Be prepared for a more acoustically prominent/avant-garde collection that follows the aesthetic of previous editions... and goes where you have never heard before in the series."When a record label thrives after 25 years thanks to a focus of what was expected to be a short-lived music phenomenon called techno, then it stands to prove two things; that techno has taken its place amongst "serious" genres. KOMPAKT has never been only for techno, but stands as a broad-minded entity that has set out to cross-pollinatewithin the realm of electronic music. Through its course, KOMPAKT has sent all kinds of sub-genres, and crossover adventures based on the non-negotiable 4/4 beat around the world. The 100% kick drum-free Pop Ambient series is the most endearing and enduring concept that I have had the pleasure to curate. I felt there was a strong need to add a certain elegance -- ensouled by discourse as much as hedonism -- to a sound that was recognized as "chill out" music that could be heard in back rooms and forgotten festival areas. Over the years, I like to imagine that Pop Ambient has crystallized into musical universe of its own. I put together this year's edition by plowing through an ocean of sonic jewelry from all over the world. For this special edition, I create a homogenous experience that would both appeal to our followers and continue our tradition while integrating new micro-facets from neighboring musical universes as much as possible. The headline "Ambient" might sound a little too humble but it still helps as a necessary means of orientation in the best possible sense. Same goes for another dear tradition: Veronika Unland's abstract-floral cover design that keeps on pleasing our sore eyes year after year. Although every Pop Ambient edition doesn't shy away from diving into the relevant question of "What is contemporary discourse music", in the end it boils down to that elevated moment where all theory dissolves into ambient air, into a higher state of cosmic bliss. Pop Ambient is sacral music for non-believers." --Wolfgang Voigt Cologne, October 2018.Features: Thore Pfeiffer, Coupler, The Black Frame, Kenneth James Gibson, Morgen Wurde, Gregor Schwellenbach, Last Train To Brooklyn, Max Wu?rden, Thomas Fehlmann, Leandro Fresco, Yui Onodera, and Triola.

BAYETE Blue Monday/Open Your Heart (Vula) 12"
Second release for La Casa Tropical. In the early '80s, Mbaqanga stars The Soul Brothers formed a touring group first named Jaws after member Jaws Dlathu, later named Bayete with their first recording. After a failed debut, Bayete went into the studio with Jerry Mhlanga and Decibel Music, the English division of De La Music interested in capitalizing on disco. "Blue Monday" is a cheap sounding drinking song. "Open Your Heart (Vula)" has a natural feel reminiscent of the pre-MIDI, early '80s disco sound, perfectly blending synths and keyboards, funky guitar, and the amazing vocals of Jabu.

PAGLIARA, MASSIMILIANO Feel Live 2LP
"The body never lies. Every dance is a graph of the heart. Nothing is more revealing than movement." These are the words of Martha Graham, one of the greatest American dancers and choreographers of the 20th century. Massimiliano Pagliara might as well have them tattooed on his chest, close to his heart, being an accomplished dancer, too. He has studied contemporary dance in Milan and Berlin, and went on to dedicate his life to transforming experience into movement, be it musical, physical, or spiritual. Massimilano's message is clear: Don't stand still. Take a chance at endless change, instead. Stemming from Lecce province, an area at the south-eastern-most tip of Italy, Massimilano has been based in Berlin for several years where he's been one of the main forces behind recombining the city's hardboiled techno scene with an often-overlooked sensibility for the soft and the tender. Call it underground disco passion. Massimilano's last album, With One Another (PLAYRJC 032LP, 2014), was about celebrating the joy of human encounters and in parts seemed like a big get-together with like-minded artists and friends. Following its release, Massimilano dedicated himself to intense traveling and exploring the world anew. The result of these experiences is Feel Live, Massimiliano's third full-length endeavor. It was recorded in several intimate, sometimes improvised studio settings between Los Angeles, Portland, and Massimiliano's homebase in Berlin as well as at airports and on intercontinental flights high up in the sky. Featuring vocals by Private Agenda, Peaking Lights, Kim Anh, and instrumental contributions by Fort Romeau, Tim K, and Jules Etienne, Feel Live is Massimilano's most playful and imaginative work to date. It's as emotional as sensual, as vibrant as the first ray of light after a thunderstorm has cleared the air. Is it awkward or odd to call this record jazzy? Presumptuous to pinpoint its spatial, almost orchestral qualities? Unfair on the ruling Cosmic powers to highlight its aspirations of founding a new land of Balearic Harmonia and getting down at a huge fertility rite with electro enthusiasts and house lovers? Not one bit. Feel Live is pure grandeur and elegance. It feels like an eternal movement.

TUDOR, DAVID Three Works For Live Electronics CD
Restocked; 1996 release. Originally released on Lovely Music as Pulsers / Untitled in 1984. This re-release includes an additional piece from David Tudor, Phonemes. Pulsers explores the world of rhythms created electronically by analog, rather than digital, circuitry. With analog circuitry, the time-base common to the rhythms can be varied in many different ways by a performer, and can eventually become unstable. Untitled is a part of a series of works composed in the 1970s that were developed through experiments in generating electronic sound without the use of oscillators, tone generators, or recorded natural sound materials. Composed in 1972, it was designed for simultaneous performance with John Cage's vocalization of his Mesostics Re Merce Cunningham. The work was revived in 1982, and performed with improvised vocals by Takehisa Kosugi. Phonemes was commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for Cunningham's dance Channels/Inserts (1981), a work made both as a "filmdance" and for the stage. Phonemes employs two discrete processes which provide input source material for an array of sound modifying electronics, thus creating a multitude of outputs. David Tudor, electronics, with Takehisa Kosugi, electronic violin and vocals; produced and recorded by David Tudor, Nicolas Collins, and John D.S. Adams.

ALPHA & OMEGA Dubplate Selection Vol. 3 CD
Music Mania and Indica Dubs presents the next release in their Mania Dub series. Following multiple classic re-issues, Mania Dub now bring you a long awaited freshly produced album by UK dub innovators Alpha & Omega, Dubplate Selection Vol. 3. As the duo explains, "We have always done alternative mixes for sound systems. We had enough good ones to make an album so that's why we released Dubplate Selection Vol. 1 (1995). As we released more albums we had more dubplates to release. We've had a long gap but after our recent releases we felt it was about time for Dubplate Selection Vol. 3. It includes mixes from the last three albums". UK dub pioneers since 1990, Alpha & Omega have worked with the likes of Greensleeves, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Jah Shaka, and Gregory Isaacs. Alpha & Omega are a roots dub duo that mix both analog and digital elements, comprising Christine Woodbridge and John Sprosen, both of whom had played in reggae bands previously, Sprosen also having worked with the Roaring Lion Sound System. They began working together in the mid-1980s, splitting their time between their home towns of London and Plymouth, and issued their debut home-recorded cassette in 1988. They were picked up by Greensleeves Records, who acted as a parent company to the duo's A&O label, and also worked with Jah Shaka, for whom they supplied rhythm tracks. Although they are strongly influenced by artists such as Perry, King Tubby, and Augustus Pablo, they have developed a sound that has been described as "uniquely British".

KEY & CLEARY Love Is The Way 2CD
"Drum-machine soul, funk, disco and boogie from Buffalo, NYC. Rare 7' singles and previously unreleased tracks presented as an album for the first time. In the early '70s, Jessie Key and Sylvester Cleary -- two passionate idealists living in Buffalo, New York -- formed a close friendship based on a mutual mission to better their city. The Attica State Prison Riot of 1971 was a burning memory, and the Arthur vs. Nyquist lawsuit -- brought against the City of Buffalo for creating and maintaining a racially segregated school system -- was on the docket. Key was once a cotton-laborer in Mississippi, who journeyed north for school where he met his kindred spirit, Cleary. The two struck up an intense friendship, bought a drum machine and recorded their first 45, 'A Man', a paean to self-actualization and Black American empowerment, which they custom pressed and issued privately. Dozens of recordings followed over a decade-long span, issued on local labels and warehoused on cassette tapes. Perennial optimists, Key & Cleary tried any -- perhaps every! -- path they could demarcate in hopes of forwarding their agenda of self-effected, positive change. They formed Buffalo's first minority-owned construction company, opened a health food restaurant in a building previously occupied by a fast food chain, and even concocted a candy bar called 'The Buffalo Treat', which they manufactured and sold locally. Eventually they started their own label, Buffalo's Reflection. On it they released their masterpiece, What It Takes To Live, a sought-after disco and Northern Soul classic, which previously appeared on Now-Again's Soul Cal anthology. This album collates the breadth of Key & Cleary's recordings from 1970 until the mid-1980s, both the songs issued on rare 7' singles and previously unreleased. It presents a conjoined musical vision and tells the story of a duo years ahead of their time, both musically and culturally. Love Is The Way was their ethos; their goal was to enlighten humanity and to bend history in a more loving direction through communion."

MORGAN, MARK Department of Heraldry LP
"'I was first introduced to the concept of Mark Charles Morgan by Thurston Moore in a series of conversations that all went something like this: TM: Dude, Sightings is coming to town. You should check them out. I think you'd really dig them. And you'd love Mark; he's hilarious Me: un-huh TM: No, really. Me: When and Where? I'll try to make it. TM: They're playing Friday at... At which point, I'd nod politely, internally shutting down, or just walk away, while he was mid-sentence. This went on for approximately seven years. Until in 2012, I finally caught Sightings at the local American Legion hall. As I walked through the doors for the first time, the following checklist went through my head: Incredibly depressing venue: check A bar you can still smoke at because it's technically a private club: check. Rummy regulars at said bar with absolutely no interest in the music in the other room: check. Large open room with sparse crowd: check (I'm being generous if I estimate 20 people in attendance). 'Oh great,' I thought, 'Not technically a basement noise show but might as well be. At least there's a bar.' Then Sightings started. And much to my surprise, they were not some horrible and boring noise improv shit. Sightings had songs. Mark's guitar growled, and he snarled. Or maybe it was the other way around. No matter, I did DIG them. They were great! Which would all make them sleeping on the floor in my tv room significantly less awkward, thank god. The next morning, I could genuinely gush about how much I liked them, in between bouts of mercilessly making fun of how many pedals Mark used. Which all brings me to Mark 'Man Crush' Morgan's 2018 solo effort Department of Heraldry that you now hold in your hot little hands. To say I was a little leery of what was obviously some of that aforementioned 'noise improv shit' is an understatement. My heart sank when I spotted a ten minute 'composition'. Oh fuck, there are two of them. This was going to be a hard sell. Not to you necessarily, but to me. I'm not some slight of build guy with stooped shoulders, wearing a dirty beige Lightning Bolt t-shirt with a John Fahey record tucked under his arm. The thing is though is that Mark has always had this really great guitar sound, only partly courtesy of all those shitty pedals he insists on using. He's not coming at this from a Pharoah Sanders-worshipping, free jazz-loving, sensibility. Rather, I hear his home town, Detroit. The record is scuzzy, and raw-sounding, punctuated with moments of utter desolation. Moments build, only to collapse again. There are even funky grooves but, of course, they fall apart. It's fucking great. Dude, you should check it out!' --Julie Cafritz, August 2018"

It's hard not to think of the ghosts of impossible crossings, victories, loses, harbors in such rough waters. Why would anyone venture out here? Finding something new or an overdue visit? Ending all of the wars? For me, for my first listen to Mystic Beings instantly cured all motion sickness. It was probably just the very welcome adrenalin shots from their performance, but all the crashing and pitching over the waves became a joy. I was braver from listening in. Sometimes they hovered like a three-headed beacon -- a soaring vision to follow out on the horizon. Sometimes they seemed pulled into action and attack. Detonations and radio calls. Sometimes the spines of their own instruments cried out on the power of their own cores, their bodies having been left elsewhere. They drifted apart like a search party, skies clouded over, a spreading landscape streaked with transparent layers over layers. Or they joined together in quiet and unsparing ceremony, the kind usually reserved passing back through the place by which you've entered. All the while there was no scratching or banging at hard enclosed corners. These three players created a world of open space and flexible membrane, where any violence would only come from an outside imposition. Each of the songs read like movements in a larger work. As an eavesdropper, I added my own abstract, personal story over the whole album. I could repopulate new stories over and over again over this framework. The arc is that strong, and the conversation is that good. And even if just overheard, Mystic Beings generously called me out to where I needed to be. The shallows and the shores are where the worst dangers can find us, and our best chance of survival is sometimes out in the rolling depths. Deafen out the sirens and stay onward in the deep waters. Thank you, Bill and Chris and Steve, for sharing this kind of wild captain's safety with us.' --Meg Baird, Cairnryan and San Francisco, Nov 2018"

NODGE, NORMAN Embodiment EP 12"
After a seven-year hiatus, the longtime Berghain resident is back with four new tracks of deep, narcotic techno. A lawyer by trade, on Embodiment EP Norman Nodge reflects on decades of observing how dancers develop an intuitive relationship to music and process new sounds. "Tacit Knowing" is a nod to the feedback loop between the instincts of dancer and producer, combining bassline, breakbeats, and Detroit-like strings. In contrast, "Discipline" is aggressive, updated peak-time acid, packed with the sounds of metal and overdriven snares. "Gathering" is a bongo-heavy tribal groover, while "Embodiment" references a more halcyon Ostgut Ton aesthetic

MAD TIMOTHY A Very Snug Joiner LP
Out-Sider presents Mad Timothy's A Very Snug Joiner; this is the first-ever release for this previously unknown late '60s/early '70s acetate, rescued from a thrift store in Chicago. Damaged heavy blooz-psych in the vein of Blue Cheer, Majic Ship, Mount Rushmore, Houston Fearless, Apryl Fool, Sweet Slag, Mutzie, Aum, Screw, or a wasted teenage Canned Heat. In these digital and interconnected times, it's very rare to find an album from the '60s/'70s which hasn't been documented or "discovered" yet. That's the case with a mysterious demo LP titled A Very Snug Joiner by a band called Mad Timothy. In words of Steve Krakow (of Plastic Crimewave/Galactic Zoo): "A friend of mine found this no-jacket LP at a thrift shop, and there is ZERO information on them -- no one knows anything and I've spoken to many collectors. Very cool sludgy Blue Cheer/Majic Ship/Mount Rushmore kind of vibe -- with a few folkier tracks -- it's all pretty charmingly primitive -- I think people would want to hear this!" Even knowing our efforts to track down the band would be fruitless, this rarity deserved to be shared with the world, so Out-Sider/Guerssen in collaboration with Steve's Galactic Archive imprint, are doing a vinyl edition of the Mad Timothy demo album, hoping that one of the band members will see it and contact us. The audio has been lovingly restored for full thudding blastage, with new artwork by underground sculptor Robert Buchholz and Plastic Crimewave (Galactic Zoo Dossier). Includes download.

FOODMAN Moriyama 12"
"Moriyama is the first release on Brooklyn based Palto Flats label by Nagoya-based experimental producer Foodman (Takahide Higuchi). A 5-track 12" focused on deep, tactile rhythmic and offbeat tracks, Moriyama tilts on some of the producer's most dance-friendly work. 'Mizuboro,' (meaning water bath) elicits the feeling of soaking in a tub of warm bassy synth pads, metronomic patterns of woodwinds and skittering percussion suitable for late night winds. Elsewhere, on 'Soudesu,' Foodman experiments with traditional instrumentation & vocal forms to create a special post-ambient/dance hybrid of familiar sounds reconfigured. Named after the district he lives in, Moriyama represents some of Foodman's most direct, accessible work -- a full helping. Foodman is the most internationally renowned artist coming out of the Japanese footwork/experimental scene, and has recently transitioned into more abstract, ambient compositions. TOXE Blinks 12"
Swedish producer Toxe's new EP Blinks is a fractal bloom of candied melodies and minor laments set in a sweep of frenetic rhythmic scenes. Developed throughout last year, Blinks journals a period of inward flux. Meditative glimpses of soaring synthetic landscapes are woven across Blinks in brief snatches. Awash in horrific and gripping fluorescent hues, these environments are augmented by a comically mischievous patchwork of voices and saccharine rasps that clamor for attention, hinting at Toxe's impulse to voice a simultaneous and unorganized set of experiences. AMNESIA SCANNER Another Life LP
LP version. Another Life is the debut album from Amnesia Scanner, the Berlin-based music duo, performing arts group, experience design studio, and production house, created by Finnish-born Ville Haimala and Martti Kalliala. Founded in 2014, Amnesia Scanner's approach is informed by a unique perspective on technology and the way it mediates contemporary experience. System vulnerabilities, information overload, and sensory excess inform their work, which has found a home in both clubs and galleries. Building on their mixtape AS Live [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] (2014), Amnesia Scanner's critically-acclaimed audio play Angels Rig Hook (2015) laced a potpourri of dancefloor tactics with a machinic narrator. Their dual EPs for Young Turks, AS and AS Truth (2016), distilled this immersive environment into an abrasive collection of cryptorave tools. The most striking detail of Another Life is Amnesia Scanner's use of both human and inhuman voices. The latter is provided by the latest addition to the production unit, a disembodied voice called Oracle, which represents the sentience that has emerged from Amnesia Scanner. Oracle's vocal performance ranges from exuberant mania to anxious dread and beyond. Coupled with the pop song structures that Amnesia Scanner employs for the first time, the avant-EDM productions of Another Life evocatively explore a schizophrenic present marked by narratives of a slow apocalypse or salvation via technology. Indeed, the lullaby of "AS Another Life" swings between trill hope and casual threat, lending a precarious gait to the song's staggering rhythm. The album's first single, "AS Chaos", is its most powerfully direct track, with Pan Daijing's English and Mandarin vocals taking over for Oracle. At its peak intensity, as in "AS Faceless", Amnesia Scanner's doombahton overheats into nu-metal-gabba. Amnesia Scanner has presented work at art institutions such as ICA London, HKW Berlin, and the Serpentine Gallery Marathon in London. They collaborate with PWR Studio for their design and visual direction. The AS live experience is co-created with Stockholm-based Canadian designer Vincent De Belleval. When unplugged from the Amnesia Scanner stream, Haimala works as a composer and producer with a wide range of musical and visual artists, and Kalliala co-directs the think tank Nemesis. Features photography by Satoshi Fujiwara, and visual direction from PWR Studio. Mastered by Jeremy Cox.

MANNERFELT, PEDER Daily Routine LP
Fever Ray producer Peder Mannerfelt plays into the widest angles of his "power ambient" sound on Daily Routine, a killer study into the way rave music intersects domestic life. The ten tracks range from decade-old productions to hyper new cut-ups of his brother's records, bought in London in summer '88, but all betray an increasing embrace of complexity and layered, asymmetric design that will keep his ever-growing mob of followers fascinated at every turn. The preceding single track "Temporary Psychosis (VIP)" is a definitive highlight, riding the finest line between deadly rave function and pranging unpredictability, while other dance floor highlights come on strong in the pointillist rave puncture of "Sissel & Bass", featuring a killer vocal by Sissel Wincent, and the rabid churn of "This Machine Shares Memes". But that would be to neglect the album's central psychedelic nature and the way it will be used, at home, in prosaic domesticity, where the far-flung and undulating topography of pieces such as the sardonic "Introductions & Aspiration", the darkside creep of "Cigarettes (Eurofierceness Mix)", and the exasperated rave of "How Was Your Day? (Numb)" will likely induce listeners to laugh, bruk out, curl up, and climb the walls in their own personal space. RIYL: Autechre, Marie Davidson, Aphex Twin, Fever Ray. RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS Relatively Clean Rivers LP
2018 repress; LP version. Former Beat Of The Earth leader Phil Pearlman assembled Relatively Clean Rivers in the early '70s and eventually released this excellent rural rock album in 1975. Although Pearlman's first recorded effort was a surf/hot rod 45 entitled Chrome Reversed Rails which appeared on the Fink label in the mid-'60s, it was with Beat Of The Earth that he began to forge a distinctive musical voice. The band was one of the earliest-known experimental bands with a sound reminiscent of their East Coast counterparts, The Velvet Underground, whose influence is often discernible on Relatively Clean Rivers. That said, RCR is recognized by those fortunate enough to have heard it as one of the very finest albums of the era, with a clearly-defined American sound akin to The Grateful Dead in all their American Beauty pomp or CSNY circa Déjà Vu. An album highly recommended to anyone even remotely interested in '70s West Coast music or simply great music in general. Finally available on 180 gram vinyl once again, and comprehensively remastered using the latest 48-bit technology.

INSANE CLOWN POSSE The Amazing Jeckel Brothers 2LP
"2018 Black Friday RSD release. On vinyl for the first time ever! Pressed on red vinyl with variant covers of each jeckel brother! Horrorcore hip-hop veterans Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope of Insane Clown Posse have never been one to avoid controversy for the sake of their craft. The release of their 1997 album The Great Milenko proved that, when the album's label, Disney-owned Hollywood Records, removed the album from shelves mere hours after its release to appease complaints by the Southern Baptist Church. This controversy only served to propel the Detroit duo's profile higher, as numerous labels lined up to court them. By 1998 Insane Clown Posse had settled into Island Records, and The Great Milenko had sold over one million copies, setting the stage for their next record. The Amazing Jeckel Brothers was released in 1999, was the fifth entry into their Joker's Cards anthology of albums, and featured 17 tracks touching on themes of anger, morality, and sin, heavily inspired by the negative press the group had received from the Hollywood Records debacle. Like Milenko, the album featured production from their frequent collaborator DJ Mike E. Clark, but Jeckel Brothers set itself apart with its sound, heavily indebted to classic 90s rap, as opposed to Milenko's hard rock-influence, featuring key contributions from legends of hip-hop like Ol' Dirty Bastard and Snoop Dogg, from fellow horrorcore icons Twiztid, ska-revival band Gangsta Fun, and even prank call comedians The Jerky Boys. Despite receiving a thrashing from critics, Insane Clown Posse defied the press it received when The Amazing Jeckel Brothers debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 charts, and ultimately reached platinum status in 2008. In celebration of this landmark album, Insane Clown Posse's own Psychopathic Records now presents this special reissue of The Amazing Jeckel Brothers. Not just on vinyl for the very first time, but pressed on transparent red wax, and housed in two variant covers featuring each of the two iconic Jeckel Brothers from the original artwork."

REIDEMEISTER MOVE Arcanum 17 CD/BOOK
"Reidemeister Move's Arcanum 17 is a sound novella recorded in 2012 in remote Eastern Quebec. Reidemeister Move is Christopher Williams, a composer and contrabass player who worked with Ben Patterson (amongst an army of other mentors) and Robin Hayward, a microtonal tubist and composer who has performed music written for him by Christian Wolff and Alvin Lucier. Arcanum 17, based on the André Breton novel (1945) of the same name, was co-written by Williams and Charlie Morrow (one may recall that Recital published Morrow's fabulous Toot! Too LP last year (R 041LP, 2017)). Charlie introduced me to Williams in late-2016 (introducing is one of Charlie's specialties). Once I discovered Christopher's association with Fluxus composers and Malcolm Goldstein, I figured our conversations would go late into the night. We did not talk, though. And our first meeting consisted of Christopher sitting me down to play a piece of his music. I was initially turned off by the situation: such a bold gesture from a relative stranger (a bottle of wine and banter would normally be on the menu for such an occasion). We turned the lights to a dim glow in my living room and he played the CD for me all the way through: 45 minutes of hyper-silent listening. I sank into the experience with comfort and ease with the first wash of water from the speakers. Arcanum 17 is paced perfectly: field recordings, whispered narration, and cloudy bass and tuba streams fall in and out of frame with cinematic grace. A transportive phenomenon of an album, it sonically echoes Williams' description of the Breton novel: 'A thick, existential little book, a reckoning of and with everything that brings him here: Canadian wildlife, the morning star, the myth of Melusina, feminism, the French education system, the ecstasy of newfound love. His alchemical blurring of prose and poetry, dream and waking states, natural and psychological landscapes, and past, present and future, brings these topics inimitably together. Always on the cusp of development but never quite.' I now am grateful for the serious listening lesson that Christopher sat me down for: both because the sound piece was beautiful, and as a reminder to treat your art with respect and to not slight the weight of your passions."--Sean McCann, October 2018.Includes 9? x 6? 20-page color pamphlet with photos and program notes. LAUER Power LP
Lauer always rhymes with Power. Proven by countless remixes, productions and projects like Arto Mwambe, Black Spuma, Talamanca System or Tuff City Kids and -- naturally -- his own brand. There aren't many dance floors left that haven't been blessed by all this glory. Now, the aptly titled third album of Frankfurt's prime export regarding all things melodic, teenaged and synthesized, intensifies, condenses and hones the sound he has been developing for years. Power is a topical take on classic dance and 80's pop figures, disco music in a closet (Lauer is still in denial), singing arpeggios, android choirs, beautiful bass lines and sometimes the apparitional architecture of house music. Neatly placed on one piece of vinyl, Power collects nine tracks that follow these roads. Expertly produced, recorded on high-end tape and complemented with intricate songwriting, Running Back presents this magnum opus. Power is vintage Lauer. Like his attic (Pyramide Studio 2 for those who know) where a vast synthesizer collection from the days of yore and tomorrow meets other digital dinosaurs and analog Aphrodites, it showcases a sanguine, punky and vivid DIY-aesthetic that isn't too far from a garage band turned into a one-man-orchestra. Glazed with two songs featuring the vocal talents of Jasnau, Power is that sentiment is consolidated, music to dance to and to romance to.

SNOW, MICHAEL The Last LP: Unique Last Recordings of the Music of Ancient Cultures LP
Song Cycle Records present a reissue of Michael Snow's The Last LP: Unique Last Recordings of the Music of Ancient Cultures, originally issued in 1987. The album is an extraordinary collection of tracks "of rare music derived from threatened, obsolete, or now-extinct cultures from around the world" that although the claiming of being field recordings of ancient musical experiences, are in fact pieces played, conceived and recorded by the artist himself. As it was for Musics For Piano, Whistling, Microphone And Tape Recorder (CY 999LP, 2016), with this issue the Canadian artist further developed his conceptual investigation around the object-LP where the single elements (the record, the music, the text and the jacket) are so indissolubly intertwined to create what the artist calls a "sonics-sculpture-text". Partly motivated by the announced obsolescence of the vinyl format, The Last LP is also a critical reflection on the impact of new technologies on the relationship between played and recorded music. Presented with remastered sound from the original tapes and a faithful reproduction of the original artwork. Gatefold sleeve, 180 gram virgin vinyl. Edition of 500.

CAMIZOLE Camizole 2LP
Souffle Continu present a reissue of Camizole's self-titled album, recorded in 1977. Is freedom worth more than mastery, construction and achievement? In replying yes, the utopians of Camizole clear show which side they are on. For them, musical creation must be as spontaneous as possible. To achieve this, it is better to put egos to one side to concentrate on collective experimentation, to be tried and tested in front of a live audience. Playing the card of unlimited and unhindered improvisation is Camizole's crédo, having decided to get a taste of the urgent game-playing already established by the Nihilist Spasm Band and the Living Theatre research of Julian Beck and Judith Malina. At the time, that is to say when punk was exploding, this concept, itself inherited from the May 68 events, made an impact on Chris Cutler of Henry Cow, but also Lindsay Cooper, who invited Camizole member Françoise Crublé to join the Feminist Improvising Group. Also, the Tapioca label run by Jean Georgakarakos (co-founder of BYG Records), considered producing an album, from a live recording made at the Théâtre de Chartres in November 1977. Unfortunately the label rapidly ceased all activities and the recording was left in a drawer, which was a real shame. Today, after extracts and other live bits and pieces came out via Spalax at the end of the 1990s, an integral double album is finally being released (for the first time on vinyl) to do justice to the collective created by Jacky Dupéty, and which included, amongst others Dominique Grimaud (Vidéo-Aventures), Chris Chanet (Etron Fou Leloublan, Urban Sax), Xavier Jouvelet (Lol Coxhill), and Bernard Filipetti (Art & Technique). The ranks of Camizole included some of the most essential personalities of the French underground, notably Dominique Grimaud (Vidéo-Aventures), Chris Chanet (Etron Fou Leloublan), and Bernard Filipetti (Art & Technique). Their idea of music, if we look further than the pair Dominique Grimaud and Bernard Filipetti, and a style of music influenced by Klaus Schulze, is inspired by the liberty of free jazz. This is nonetheless modified by a cathartic approach close to the esthetic preoccupations of Julian Beck and Judith Malina's Living Theatre. The result is a musical happening, where the important thing is to improvise in the urgency of the moment in front of a not-always receptive public. Before exploring constructed repetitive forms which would be perfected by Urban Sax, Lard Free were more in the domain of noise improvisation, or even a kind of jazz rock similar to that of Soft Machine, as can be heard on a late retrospective album, from which the track "À chacun son Boulez" emerged. There was logically great complicity between Camizole and Lard Free, which would lead to the two groups finally merging. This was the case for four concerts in May before the two groups disbanded in order to finally get to grips with the free rock in the style of Faust that they liked so much. As an ode to anarchy, a record now bears witness to those communal experiences. Edition of 500 with obi strip.

NU CREATIVE METHODS Nu Jungle Dances LP
Souffle Continu presents a reissue of Nu Creative Methods' Nu Jungle Dances, originally released in 1978. When the second Nu Creative Methods album was released, New And Rediscovered Musical Instruments (1975) by Max Eastley and David Toop had already been available for almost three years. Without being able to say that there was a direct, real-time influence, the direction taken by the British and French duos was however the same, combining research and tradition in a quest for a new imaginary folklore. The name chosen by the pair was anything but innocent, linking them to both the track "Nu Creative Love" by Don Cherry (from Symphony For Improvisers(1966)) and the book My Creative Method (1949) by Francis Ponge. Because the first outlines the route of a free jazz the boundaries of which have constantly been demolished and through which Pierre Bastien and Bernard Pruvost traced their own path, while the second, an anarchist creating a bomb with the irrational as gunpowder, is close to providing an intellectual method. Close, because even this is undermined by other essential routes taken by Nu Creative Methods. The Oulipo, for example, encouraged all sorts of creativity; or perhaps pataphysics, according to which a banal saucepan is equivalent to the Mona Lisa! To get closer to the source of their imagination, the following names would have to be added to the list, Locus Solus (1914) by Raymond Roussel, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Harry Partch, New Phonic Art and Zwei Mann Orchester (1971-3) by Maurizio Kagel. That shows, in broad strokes, the creative wheels in motion behind Nu Creative Methods and Nu Jungle Dances offers a taste of the pathways offered by chance, following improvisations using instruments from the five continents. By proceeding thus, that is to say entering an esthetic zone where popular and esoteric music come together at last, an infinite palette of sounds opens up, offering fantastic perspectives. Between free jazz and ancestral music, Nu Jungle Dances makes it happen without pretense but with a rare and luminous extravagance, but also with the willingness to take on board unexpected surprises, and with a natural charm combating for the craft of sound creation. First ever vinyl reissue of this French underground treasure. Edition of 500 with four page booklet and obi strip.

On Asafo/Enye Woa are two late 1980s Ghanaian highlife cuts taken from the catalog of Nakasi Records. The A-side showcases a track from Jon K, a rework of the traditonal Fanti song "Asafo Beesuon". On the B-side, Pat Thomas needs little introduction; this dance floor-heavy cut has eluded recent reissues. With horns arranged by long-time collaborator Ebo Taylor, it's an instantly recognizable sound that also features Rex Gyamfi, himself a well-known purveyor of 1980s highlife.

ANGIULI, GIORGIA In A Pink Bubble CD
Giorgia Angiuli's debut album In A Pink Bubble channels the artist's effervescent persona and own bubbly style in a 12 track-long, honest musical expression. Drawing inspiration from her first worldwide tour, where life on the road was impacted by personal loss, the album title In A Pink Bubble captures the essence of the artist's mindset, caught between the artistic world and real life: "I felt like in a pink bubble, between memories and new experiences, between darkness and colors". Brandishing an immersive sonic sphere, the classically-trained musician played and recorded all instruments throughout the album, including her favorite weapons of choice, from her beloved '60s guitar to vintage analog synths like the Moog Sub37, Juno 106, the infamous O-B-6 synth and more. The synesthesia of dark and colorful with new and old memories stands at the core of the album, as introspective airy tracks intertwine with more dynamic, bass-heavy constructions. On its luminous side, one sees cuts radiating with crystalline, microscoping sounds with sweeping ambience like the opener "A Perfect Day In Tulum", leading the listener on a nervous path towards more obscure tracks such as "Copenhagen" and "Nothing To Lose", until bringing the atmosphere to a boiling point. "Music Is Life" encapsulates Giorgia's passion for her craft, an intrinsic part of her life that brings peace and inspiration; "Music is life with wings, sit in the warm water, just reflecting, being". Creation and being inspired represent another major theme present throughout the album, both on "Inspiration", and "A Temple Made By Air", where the artist can be heard singing: "Passion means satisfaction, wrong emotions create distortion, come with me to enjoy the green, stop losing time on your screen". Channeling an overflow of emotions, a return to humanity comes as a resolution for the artist, the central idea in "The Contact Is A Cure". Giorgia feels that, although useful, "technology is the big nightmare of our society, and we are all missing the contact with nature and human beings". Rounding off the last part of the release, the sun-drenched "Pink Bubble" stands as reflective and intense, managing to transfuse the same magnetism that is quintessential to Giorgia's live performances. With In A Pink Bubble, Angiuli refines her signature sound across a range of tempos, in a project that can be appreciated both for its intricate groundings and beautiful simplicity.

48 CAMERAS Chosen Songs LP
48 Cameras was the brainchild and life project of self-proclaimed non-musician Jean-Marie Mathoul, a social worker born and raised in Huy who carefully conducted 48C towards cult status. The name of the collective references photographer Eadweard Muybridge and a poem by Jim Morrison; "Muybridge derived his animal subjects from the Philadelphia Zoological Garden, male performers from the University. The women were professional artists' models, also actresses and dancers, parading nude before the 48 cameras". It is important to note that 48C is somewhat of a non-band. The musicians and collaborators never actually recorded together, and to this day some haven't even met each other. Before starting the recording process, J-M built an album in his mind: choice of album and song titles, who was to collaborate, even the artwork was clear long before the first note was played, leaving little room for surprises. Throughout the years, collaborators sent their parts by snail mail on tape, DAT, or even MiniDisc, and with the arrival of the internet some began to upload their contributions. Jean-Marie even refused to recognize one album and a rare live show as being 48C, stating: "That's not 48 Cameras." Yves Tassin: "I remember one time being in a record shop with J-M, and I stumbled upon the second album we had released, however, J-M had told me that particular album no longer existed. In his typical stubborn style, he told me: 'Buy the album, but I'm leaving.' It's still not clear what his problem with that particular album was, but he didn't want to acknowledge it. Of course when I was holding it in my hand he had to admit that it existed." J-M welcomed new collaborators by saying: "You are here, thanks to the Domino Principle: you'll meet someone, who will allow you to meet a next person, after that one, another, etcetera." This principle he held dearly, almost as a life philosophy. Which is not to say that all encounters were fructuous. Calo: "One day I introduced J-M to Tucker Zimmerman, so they could maybe collaborate, but nothing happened. On a photo taken on that particular day, you see J-M and Tucker silently sitting next to each other in the garden, not really talking to each other. Both personalities too strong to collaborate." Stubborn leaders demand to be tested, so at times some of the members of the collective decided to challenge J-M, telling him they'd sneak in melodies of popular hit songs. Features a remix by Vesica Piscis.

MERZBOW + OPENING PERFORMANCE ORCHESTRA Merzopo 2CD
Merzopo is a collaborative two CD album of Japanese noise legend Masami Akita (aka Merzbow) and the Czech seven member ensemble Opening Performance Orchestra, based in Prague. The first CD contains four compositions by Merzbow. "Futaomote" means 'double face' and it was originally titled 'Janus'. "Yasugibushi" is a Japanese old folk song which was sampled. The second CD contains two live tracks from Opening Performance Orchestra which were played live in Tokyo and Prague in 2017 and studio edited at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. No melody, no rhythm, no harmony; this is fraction music. Opening Performance Orchestra is a seven-member ensemble encompassing a wide genre span, from the 20th-century electronic thrusts of the musical avant-garde as far as contemporary Japanese noise music. Its own creations are based on fraction music, with the initial sound being digitally destroyed, fractured, and uncompromisingly rid of all its original attributes within the spirit of the credo "no melodies, no rhythms, no harmonies."

FALL, THE Totale's Turns LP
"Given The Fall's penchant for iconoclasm, it's no surprise that they decided to say goodbye to the '70s with a series of gigs at Northern England's gruffest halls. The band's formidable live show was met with even more derision and disorder than customary during these late '79 and early '80 performances, and they skillfully amplified such sentiments back at the crowd. Totale's Turns, The Fall's first live album, was released on Rough Trade just prior to their pivotal third album, 1980's Grotesque. 'The difference between you and us is that we have brains,' shouts Mark E. Smith to open Totale's Turns as the band breaks into the rollicking 'Fiery Jack,' their latest single at the time. Each player is at their jagged best: Marc Riley and Craig Scanlon's splintering guitars, Steve Hanley's thunderous bass and Smith's combative sneer reverberate over 'Rowche Rumble,' 'Choc-Stock,' and 'Spectre Vs. Rector' more than any studio would ever allow. Totale's Turns never panders to live-record conventions, serving instead as a gripping exhibit of The Fall en masse and arguably the most accurate document of the group to date. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Totale's Turns has been available on vinyl domestically. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

SCIENTIST In The Kingdom Of Dub LP
"Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist, has been a pioneering figure in the world of dub for 40 years. His early love of electronics proved fruitful when (still a teenager) he was hired at King Tubby's studio in Kingston. Brown quickly ascended the ranks and became heir to Tubby's throne, producing imaginative and technically impressive mixes that solidified his forward-looking nickname. Originally released in 1981, In The Kingdom Of Dub remains one of the best early LPs in Scientist's long career. Produced by Roy Cousins at Channel One and featuring Sly and Robbie along with members of The Revolutionaries, The Aggrovators and The Soul Syndicate, the album offers a wide range of arresting rhythms, bold effect drops and exquisitely melodic bass. From '18 Drumalie Avenue Dub' (a reference to King Tubby's address) to 'Burning Sun Dub', Scientist lays down a veritable roadmap of dub -- filled with disintegrating echoes of satiny organ and textural guitar -- firmly cementing his place as one of the true innovators in Jamaican popular music."

CHANDRA Transportation EPs 2LP
"Chandra Oppenheim was a child star like no other. As the daughter of famed conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim. By age nine, Chandra was staying up late at her parents' art-world parties, collaborating in her father's projects, and performing her own plays at downtown hotspots such as The Kitchen and Franklin Furnace. This set the stage for Chandra's course-altering collaboration with members of The Dance, who were looking to form yet another project and found their muse/fuse in ten-year-old Chandra. Transportation EP, originally released in 1980 by The Dance's own label, ON/GoGo. Balancing on razor-wire guitars, liquid bass lines, and dub-style melodica, the Chandra band unveiled their first four songs: 'Opposite', 'Concentration', 'Subways', and 'Kate.' While Chandra's music can be compared to her no wave contemporaries Y Pants, France's Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Su Tissue of Suburban Lawns, or 'Delta 5 meets the Jackson 5', to quote critic David Ma, her lyrical fixations are truly singular. With hypnotic, chanted vocals focusing on chilling themes of mind control, multiple personalities and missing the train. At age 12, the post-punk pre-teen took the stage with her band for the first time at New York's legendary Mudd Club. A whirlwind of press coverage ensued from glossy magazines like Vogue and Paris Match to the influential underground zine Non LP B Side and a Soho News cover story. The infectious, propulsive 'Get It Out Of Your System' opens Chandra's second EP with one of her most commanding performances. 'Stranger' slows the pace with stop-start rhythms, woozy synths, and the harmonized return of the melodica, while its lyrics find her being followed by a mysterious character revealed to be a woman. 'Tish Le Dire' sounds like The B-52s in an eerie alternate universe with instructions on speaking up to your parents or authorities to the point of threatening suicide. Chandra stepped away from the band at age 14 to focus on her education. Sadly, the second EP was shelved and would not see the light of day for decades. Chandra's trip continues with this new deluxe reissue from Telephone Explosion Records. Returning her debut EP to its original four song, single-record release at a dancefloor-ready remastered 45 RPM, the expanded edition also adds to the second EP with a pair of never-released songs from her 1983 four-track cassette demos. 'Day Without Success' and 'They're All Alike' find Chandra's dream-like vocals driven by minimal wave synth zaps and pulsating drum machines."

NYZ SHFTR FRQ LP
The Death of Rave is honored to plate up the vinyl debut by NYZ; the cult, algorithmic/ generative music project of award-winning artist/scientist Dave Burraston (Bryen Telko, Noyzelab). The A-side revolves 14 succinct blatz, ranging from cranky percussive pieces to queered microtonal dissonance and SAW II-like atmospheres -- notably including one track made on a Sequentix Cirklon sequencer and PreenFM2 synth gifted him by Richard D. James. The B-side contains a steeply immersive spectral drone tract that (never) ends in a locked groove, especially cut at D&M, Berlin. The results are wholly unique and speak to the endless, playfully experimental variation of NYZ's art/research. They reveal visceral, alien microcosms of curdled microtonal tunings and proprioceptive chicanery bound to thrill and induce strange, new sensations in even the most hard-to-please fiend of electronic music. It's strongly recommended to followers of Russell Haswell's chaotic gnash, the mind-bending tunings of Aphex Twin, the visionary algorithmic scapes of Roland Kayn, and Eliane Radigue's microtonal meditations. In Dave's own words:"SHFTR FRQ is a series of experimental studies into simple synth setups controlled by varying levels of generative complex systems [MANIAC cellular automata]. SHFTR FRQ was recorded over the last six years on an ever-changing hybrid of equipment encompassing the domains of modular and MIDI-based microtonal sound synthesis [analog and digital]. Setups were always ultra-minimalist, often with just the MANIAC cellular automata sequencer and one or two modules/synths to provide a consistent sensory focus. The studies range from ultra-short sequences, micro-ditties, investigatory motifs, to a full length high spectral drone meditation."Burraston has previously collaborated with Alan Lamb on recordings of a mile-long telephone wire in the Australian outback, and more recently he issued nearly a dozen NYZ tapes and CDs with some of the most crucial modern music labels, as well as a number of releases under the Noyzelab and Bryen Telko aliases. In 2014, Dave self-published SYROBONKERS!, the most technical and in-depth interview ever given by Aphex Twin. Screen-printed jacket. RIYL: Russell Haswell, Aphex Twin, Eliane Radigue, EVOL/ALKU, Roland Kayn.

ANTIGONE Rising 2LP+CD
2LP version; 180 gram vinyl; includes CD. Continuing on from a series of successful EPs on Token including Ostinato (TOKEN 075EP, 2017), Antigone returns to the label with Rising, his first experiment with the LP format. Rising is an album that exerts itself to stimulate the mind and the body simultaneously. As such, it's a record that gives the dramatic illusion of having a physical pulse. The artist, real name Antonin Jeanson, already has a substantial body of work behind him. Considering his previous releases on Token, Indigo Aera, Concrete Music and Taapion, and his experience as a resident at Concrete in Paris, the level of artistic maturity he possesses while still being under 30 is highly impressive yet unsurprising at the same time. For Rising, Antigone manages to oscillate between great ambient introspections carried by spacey synths and deconstructed rhythms, and elegant techno epics that are suitable for listening pleasure as much as for the pure abandonment of reality. The title track's delicate arpeggios meld into strings with stirring cadences, delivering above and beyond the standard intro, as it breaks and continues for a second round with added depth. "Sands Of Time" stands out with tiny, breathy samples, pitch bent into something ever different from the last. "Lost And Found"'s granulated percussion sits adjacent to a cinematic sea of strings, while "Out There" provides a tasteful fragment of the sci-fi reverence many listeners demand of a techno album. "Duality Of Mind" hints once again at the measured moods of Cantor Dust (TOKEN 053EP, 2015), his Token debut EP. "It Follows" alludes to supernatural horror with call-and-response variants on an almost microtonal theme. "Infinite Limit"'s tension from the offset brings a UK-influenced sound to the record, which continues with the IDM-feeling "Dume" and the equally glitchy and pulsing "Love Field", while the in-between "Irreversible" is an immersive piece with a piercing high-end, guaranteed to induce a physical sensory response.

SHAFIEE, ARIAN A Scarlet Fail LP
"Awash in color and texture, Arian Shafiee's debut album, A Scarlet Fail, brings to light a guitarist whose sound and mastery are in full bloom. Best known for his work in the East Coast dance/punk group Guerilla Toss, Shafiee has spent years warping the idea of what a guitar can sound like. In a group setting, Shafiee does what's best for the composition, often blending seamlessly into the electronics and rhythmic grooves of his peers. A Scarlet Fail gives him a revelatory solo spotlight in a series of new electric and acoustic compositions. Inspired by visual elements of Western mysticism, Arian's playing glows like light through stained glass. With a deluxe die cut sleeve designed by Robert Beatty, Arian Shafiee's solo debut is a gem of 21st Century guitar artistry, one based not on the precepts of American Primitive but rather on a more fully realized world view of contemporary guitar. By using unconventional tunings and techniques atypical to the acoustic guitar, the music on this album finds itself in constant flux. While Arian's style is hard to pin down, each piece exists in its own expansive harmonic world, unfurling and ever moving. Equally dynamic in terms of technical skill and emotive resonance, tracks such as 'Oxy Blonde' and 'Muted Heather' glisten, with an every-note-in-the-right-place perfection. The melodies linger, sometimes hauntingly in the spaces between notes, resulting in a solo guitar album whose sound reverberates long after the needle stops."

EISENBERG, WENDY Its Shape Is Your Touch LP
"Wendy Eisenberg is an extraordinary guitarist dedicated to the completely unconstrained exploration of music, language and time. Her work has taken her from conservatory to DIY space to concert hall, from performing improvised music and punk-metal to writing the quietest of songs. On Its Shape is Your Touch, Eisenberg turns her gaze to the guitar in its most absolute, essential form. Having traversed musical genres as she has, the intricate improvisations she weaves on this record have as much to do with the vast history and musical conventions that she chooses to leave out as the sounds she chooses to play. In the process Eisenberg invents a vibrant, fiercely unique language all her own. The artist in her own words: The title Its Shape is Your Touch, from the final line the Richard Brautigan poem 'Here is something beautiful,' is one-half of the thesis of this record. The other, the absent antithesis, comes from the William Gaddis novel The Recognitions: 'you can change a line without touching it.' The shape of the guitar is the context for the sounds it makes; your touch activates this machine, alters, creates and transforms its possibilities. The shape is created and outlined by the touch, but it contains absence, undefined space. In my music, the lines change with and without physical touch: my touch creates the sound, but those sounds expand, contract, rotate, and dance as I re-establish and constantly evolve the contexts and boundaries of this world. This record has to do with absence, the spaces and movements implied by the lines of a sketch and the other worlds that choice of representation chooses to ignore. I want to let linearity be not a crutch but a device for intelligent travel through musical space. I like to think of these recordings as a gentle exorcism. Recorded in a year of significant, deep loss, it is hard for me not to hear this record as a kind of metamorphosis, a blood-letting, a culling and casting of musical and personal values. This music is reflection on loss and implication: a bluessless blues."

PICKETT, WILSON Feels Good! The Early Years Of The Wicked Pickett LP
Wilson Pickett's Feels Good! The Early Years Of The Wicked Pickett features some of his earliest recordings out of Detroit with The Falcons, and very early solo material; this collection shows the legend of soul music when he was just getting started. Though these are early recordings, Pickett's voice is fully formed and some of these tracks are the equals of later hits like "In The Midnight Hour", and "Ninety-Nine and a Half". For any fan of American soul music, this collection is absolutely necessary.

FRANKLIN, ERMA Her Name Is Erma LP
Wax Love presents a reissue of Erma Franklin's Her Name Is Erma, originally released in 1962. Erma Franklin was born in 1938 in Shelby, MS, but was raised -- with her sisters, Aretha and Carolyn -- in Detroit, MI. The son of the legendary preacher, gospel musician, and civil rights activist Rev. C.L. Franklin, Erma grew up singing in the church, like so many other R&B and soul greats of the time. After recording backing vocals with her sister, Erma got the chance in 1962 to cut her debut LP. Though she would only record one more album, Soul Sister (VAMPI 029CD, 2011) and retire from music entirely in the 1970s, this debut shows a singer just as talented as her more famous sister. A husky, soulful belter of a voice is showcased here, with all the tracks from the original album plus more.

KING, B.B. Easy Listening Blues LP
Wax Love presents a reissue of B.B. King's Easy Listening Blues, originally released in 1962. A bit of an anomaly in the B.B. King catalog, Easy Listening Blues is all instrumental tracks in the guitar-driven pop-blues style of early Freddie King. Originally released on Crown (part of the RPM/Modern/Kent umbrella that King had recorded for since nearly the beginning of his career more than ten years prior), this collection was aimed at the burgeoning white market for R&B and blues and is more pop-oriented than previous releases but that lends a charm to these recordings not often found on other King releases. Easy Listening Blues is killer R&B/blues instrumentals from one of the greatest guitarists of the 20th Century.

MITCHELL, BLUE Blue Soul LP
Wax Love presents a reissue of Blue Mitchell's Blue Soul, originally released in 1959. Blue Soul is Mitchell's third release as a leader and sees the brilliant trumpeter joined by an all-star lineup that includes Wynton Kelly on piano, Philly Joe Jones on drums, Sam Jones on bass, Curtis Fuller on trombone, and Jimmy Heath on tenor sax. A great piece of forgotten late '50s hard-bop, Blue Soul is truly a treasure of an album finally resurrected by Wax Love.

HIGHER, THE The Core 12"
Breakbeat science of highest quality. The Higher delivers a rude debut for XL Recordings with The Core. "The Core" introduces itself arms open and dances into the wind of the soundsystem, rinsing out precision tooled rave tropes, Detroit taught strings, and spine-tracing breaks. "Stick 3" goes on nutty in a burst of ravenous, dark side energy with bags of UK warehouse swagger, while "Submarine 99" lets the sweat cool a minute, lean and gangsta with k-dub, then coming loved-up and boisterous in "Submarine '95", a deeply classy, but rugged rollers vortex that twists timeless influences into inexorable, new, rave music.
