CHEN YI The 1978-1983 LP
Repressed. Originally released in 2006, Chen Yi's The 1978-1983 aims for a collective approach of art. As an isolated group of humans/numbers operating directly from a secret place in Chelmsford (UK), they developed a personal and bizarre utilization of guitars, machines, voices, and distortion, giving as a result an unconventional group of compositions from among a lot of lost/unreleased recordings. This is likely what got John Peel interested, which lead to an inexplicable CBS contract. The results couldn't be finalized, because CBS suddenly pulled out of the contract. Due to their raw and alternative "self-made" musical approach, they've been compared to the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Borghesia, and Severed Heads or more underground names such as Het Zweet and Biting Tongues.

GUN CLUB, THE Divinity LP
2019 repress. Finally reissued on vinyl and properly remastered for the occasion, Divinity from The Gun Club features and compiles an extended version of the original double EP released in 1991. This record, almost impossible to find nowadays, features the classic line-up of The Gun Club including Jeffrey Lee Pierce and Kid Congo Powers (after his time in The Cramps and with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds). During this period of his career, Jeffrey Lee Pierce advanced a complex, solid, evolutionary sound where his charismatic melodies mixed wisely with the swamp blues of the Mississippi Delta and the guitar majesty of Jimi Hendrix. The album includes lyrics in a deluxe gatefold jacket with an inner sleeve. Definitely another classic by this seminal band. Released under license from Creeping Ritual Productions.

Bauhaus Records are delivering a passion project. When it came out in 1986, Avi Matos's album Lokeach Et Hayom Leat (Taking the Day Slowly) was the first ever reggae and dub album to be made in Israel. Needless to say, it was way ahead of its time. Back then, the production has been a milestone and brought together some of Israel's best musicians at the time. Diggers holy grail. Remastered at Curve Pusher Studios (where legendary Mad Professor, Lee "Scratch" Perry records were done).

JOHNSON, SAMUEL JONATHAN My Music LP
Be With Records present a reissue of Samuel Jonathan Johnson's My Music, originally released in 1978. My Music is a stellar spiritual soul/jazz-funk gem, recorded by keyboardist-singer Samuel Jonathan Johnson in 1978. The epitome of a cult classic, it didn't do much upon its release but steadily found an audience over the decades that followed. This is music that shares the jazzy R&B DNA of contemporaries like Roy Ayers and is an intoxicating blend of mellow moments and more groove-heavy tracks. Spacey keys and lush production give it a luxurious, enveloping warmth. My Music opens with the gorgeous title track: an indulgent slow jam opus. Introducing you to Johnson's compelling musical vision, it features a rich mélange of production techniques. Dripping in strings, horns, backing singers, popping funk bass lines and swooshing synth waves, it's an unusually structured cosmic two-stepper that has an irrepressible groove. Accordingly, it's been a favorite with the diggers and it was sampled by The Alchemist for Jadakiss's "We Gonna Make It". The up-tempo "Sweet Love" bubbles over with joy, its uplifting lyrics backed by infectious bass and jazzy Fender Rhodes lines. It follows a cover of "What The World Need's Now Is Love", taken at a funereal pace that transforms it into a heartfelt plea for love and understanding. After a full-minute-long opening of lush cinematic strings and horns, "Because I Love You" makes space for Samuel's voice, accompanied by some keys and just a sprinkle of guitar. It builds back up and then mellows its way out to a jazz lounge finish (in all the right ways). The feel-good ebullience of the Stevie Wonder-esque "It Ain't Easy" closes out the LP's first side. The second side bursts open with the heavy bounce and disco-funk basslines of "You", a slightly off-beat string-laden dancer with insistent horns and a piano-assisted groove. Next up is "Just Us", a legendary steppers track that could be heard oozing out of deep soul radios and funk sound systems back in the late '80s. "Yesterdays and Tomorrow" is a moving original ballad that is followed by an exquisite high-stepping paean to mom in the form of "Thank You Mother Dear". The thumping easy-glide of "Reason For The Reason" brings the album to a close. Mastered by Simon Francis and cut by Pete Norman. Sleeve artwork restored by Be With Records. 140 gram vinyl.

DAHO & THE LIMINANAS, ETIENNE One Blood Circle 7"
Taken from the movie Le Bel Été, written and directed by Pierre Creton, "One Blood Circle" is the main theme of the soundtrack and it features French pop legend, Etienne Daho. The B-side features a cover by The Limiñanas of the all-time French classic "Non Non Rien N'a Changé" from Les Poppys. Lionel Limiñana about writing this soundtrack: "We met Pierre during the Shadow People tour, he came to the concert and wrote to us asking for music for his film Le Bel Été. Pierre sent me the script. I thought I didn't have time to work because of the tour but I took a three-day break to give it a try. I wrote a theme and then two, three... I had a work base and I was able to continue at the hotel or in the band's van, which explains why the music is very electronic. I invited Ivan Telefunken, Pascal Comelade's Catalan guitarist, to play on some melodies. When we arrived in St Malo for La Route du Rock Festival we met Etienne Daho with whom we had wanted to work for a long time. We played the script to Etienne and the demo of 'One Blood Circle', the main theme of Le Bel Été. Etienne worked on the text and quickly returned to the studio in Paris to record his voice and choirs. The O.S.T. was done." 7" collector black vinyl in sleeve with 3mm spine with paper inner-sleeve.

AFUMA Songs From The Shore CD
In Japanese folklore, Afuma indicates a time of day marked by spiritual or mysterious encounter. In Latin, one who inhales. Together as Afuma, Stefan Tcherepnin and Taketo Shimada breathe sepulchral energies into the brooding, cosmic fringes of guitar-based song vernacular. Tcherepnin's baritone and Shimada's lap steel guitar intertwine, smearing across world's-end horizons that propel Tcherepnin's ragged, foreboding vocal delivery and its lyrical portents of departure, of life's vessel unmoored onto a fathomless periphery. Shimada, a Tokyo-born musician and artist who has lived with Herbert Huncke and worked with Henry Flynt, also contributes Indian double-reed instrument shehnai to the band. And Stefan Tcherepnin, a contemporary artist and composer in fourth generation (continuing the family heritage of his great-grandfather Nicholas, grandfather Alexander, and father Ivan Tcherepnin), embellishes their dirge-scapes with electronics from the Sonica, a lute shaped version of the Serge synthesizer developed by his uncle. A family friend and student of Maryanne Amacher, Tcherepnin's piano playing alongside Marianne Schroeder's additionally graced Blank Forms Edition's publication of Amacher's Petra (BF 005CD/LP). Tcherepnin and Shimada are joined by drummer David Silver for Songs From The Shore, their debut LP, featuring artwork in the form of "A Rip In The Void", a newly commissioned painting by Bobby Beausoleil.

DUCKS UNLIMITED Get Bleak 7"
Jangle-pop conservationists Ducks Unlimited flashback to the wiry guitars, snappy clothes, and book smarts of groups like The Go-Betweens and The Verlaines. Ducks Unlimited, formed around singer Tom McGreevy, are from Toronto. The blind listening of their first singles produced by Josh Korody (Weaves, Fucked Up) and Shehzaad Jiwani (Grays) would have made us rather sideways on the side of New Zealand or Australia. Indeed, in the wake of the endearing The Goon Sax or the remarkable Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Canadians are already presenting themselves as the new natural heirs of The Go Betweens, The Chills, or The Verlaines. This is their first 7" EP, the record that should soon be making a name for themselves among the elite of the international jangle-pop. It somehow manages to seamlessly combine the slightly edgy, cool distance of any number of late '80s Flying Nun Records bands, with the modern-day indie chic of second generation The Go Betweens bands like The Goon Sax, albeit with a bounce and energy that hints more at the latest Brooklyn scene.

INDECISION, THE Give It Up! LP+CD
First album from the brilliant dance-crashing eight-piece young band from Leeds. Twelve tracks released as a single-LP displaying a rich and refreshing blend of ska and rocksteady assuming the British tradition of ska and rocksteady. Quoting The London International Ska Festival: "One of the best new UK bands about". Dance-crashing British eight-piece, The Indecision, were raised on the soulful ska of Studio One. Authenticity coupled with deft song writing skill, and forward-thinking respect for the sounds of 1960s Jamaica. Formed in 2011 their discographic EP debut was released in September 2013 with Do The Dog Records, showcasing a rich and refreshing blend of ska and rocksteady, recorded and produced entirely by band themselves and receiving airplay from BBC1Xtra and BBC6Music. The band already shows their soulful sound, not fearing up-tempo ska, bluebeat swing or solid rocksteady groove. Public and critical reception was positive giving The Indecision the opportunity to share the stage with legends of the genre such as: The Skatalites, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Don Letts, Neville Staple, Dandy Livingston, and The Slackers, and performing UK festivals including Boomtown, Tramlines, One Love, Threshold, and Smugglers. In 2016 the band released the single "Swing Those Hips/Atlantic Crossing" on Italian label, Brainlab Grove. Give It Up! shows the maturity of this young band that assumes the British ska and rocksteady tradition without effort, providing irresistible spontaneity to energetic and contagious tracks. Overflowing with beautifully crafted and super soulful tunes that will put a huge smile on your face and a huge spring in your step. Includes CD.

SAJJRA Synthexcess LP
Buh Records present Synthexcess new album of Sajjra, project of Peruvian artist Chrs Galarreta. Synthexcess was recorded in Rotterdam and it is a collection of telluric, ethereal, unique, and unclassifiable songs. Sajjra's sounds can call forth the resonance of Andean brass orchestras or of sublime natural landscapes. They emanate textures and rhythms that evoke urban and rural soundscapes mutating in epiphanies full of noise, color, and trance. Artwork by Peruvian master graphic design Jonathan Castro.Chrs Galarreta is one of the important figures of the South American experimental underground. Going back and forth from Europe to his homeland, he has been experimenting with noise in a strictly DIY way since 1995. This philosophy has led him to expand his abilities into realms such as harsh-pop songs, experimental music, installation art, software hacking, free improvisation, and electroacoustic compositions. He is a man with many aliases and side projects: Aloardi, DiosMeHaViolado, Evamuss, Chrs, Tica, and Invisible Architecture, among others. His song project Sajjra emerged from the depths of the Uku Pacha in 2012, merging psychedelic songs with Andean-tropical music and sound experimentation.

COTITO Hechicero LP
Julio Medrano Cotito has developed a very prolific career as a singer-songwriter and performer of the Peruvian cajón. He is one of the emblematic figures in the world of Afro-Peruvian music today and his name appears in many of the main fusion ensembles that have lead way in the exploration of black rhythms in Peru. Cotito has traveled around the world, sharing his music and knowledge of the cajón in schools and universities. Hechicero, his new album, and the second volume of the collection Perspectives on Afro-Peruvian Music, is an entry into the sources of the Afro tradition. It is a celebratory album, which invokes Manuel Vásquez, Eusebio Sirio, and Julio Algendones, the three great Peruvian cajoneros who are honored here in separate compositions based on the instrumental mixture of cajón, chekere, jawbone, cajita, bell, congas, bongo, guitar, and bass, in powerful and exuberant rhythmic interactions which makes up the essence of Cotito's style, and at the same time presents the genuine Afro-Peruvian sound: Festejo, Son de los Diablos, and Zamacueca. ALE HOP Apophenia LP
Apophenia by Ale Hop, suggests possible and reimagined South American geographies. Along with atomized field recordings and sound samples she recollected from video archives from her homeland, Peru, the composer interweaves unknown territories by mimicking mountains and oceans, but also grey skies and violent cities, with droning and shrieking textures of electric guitars mixed with spoken chatters and sizzles. The LP is accompanied by two black-and-white images from the Peruvian photographer Gihan Tubbeh that withhold the same poetic nature of the music through visual rhymes expressed on fragments of landscapes.Ale Hop is a Berlin-based artist, researcher, and experimental instrumentalist from Peru. She composes electronic music, by blending strains of noise, pop, avant-garde, ambient, and a complex repertoire of extended techniques for electric guitar and real time sampling devices that she uses as her sound vocabulary to craft a performance of astonishing physical intensity, saturated of layers of distortion and stunning atmospheres. Additionally, in her current A/V performance, Ale Hop assembles soundscapes that are related to the contradictory memories she keeps from Peru, from the violence and turbulence that she grew up, in uncertain times in Lima, through contemplative territories.

ENO/MOEBIUS/ROEDELIUS After The Heat LP
2019 repress of Bureau B's 2009 reissue. LP version. Originally released in 1978 on Sky Records, After The Heat was the second collaborative release by Brian Eno with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster). Produced once again by Conny Plank, After The Heat is a suite of micro-managed organic and electronic instrumentation that features recited and sung vocals by Eno on 3 tracks. As Asmus Tietchens writes in the liner notes: "Cluster & Eno can, with the benefit of hindsight and without overstating its case, be seen as the first ambient album to have been produced in Germany. The second LP, After The Heat, is, however, a completely different story. Whilst Cluster & Eno bears the hallmark of a Cluster composition guided by Eno's ambient concept, After The Heat is more of an Eno album bearing stylistic characteristics of Cluster music." Sweet, slow-moving and airy, with a modern classical/prog appeal.

VATH, SVEN In The Mix: The Sound Of The 20th Season 2CD
By the '70s Ibiza had already developed into an international party destination. The fact that the third largest of the Balearic Islands is what it is today -- namely, the absolute benchmark for star DJs par excellence -- cannot be discussed without mention of Sven Väth. Even in the early '80s, more than anyone else in Germany, he stood for the idea that being a DJ could be more than just a profession, a vocation or a purpose in life: it's akin to a magician of the dancefloor, a shaman who conjures up the crowd. As a resident of Dorian Gray -- the legendary club at Frankfurt Airport that was modelled on New York's Studio 54 -- he shaped the image of the DJ like no one else in Germany at the time. Even more influential were his broadcasts on hr3 Clubnight. Without the radio shows that Väth produced there between 1990 and 2004, the seed of techno in Germany would never have been sown to such an extent. With his first club Omen, Sven wrote techno history over ten years. Soon after, the "Babba", as Väth has been lovingly and respectfully called in the scene for a long time, set new standards in international club culture with Frankfurt's CocoonClub, inspired by his Cocoon Ibiza events. Pioneer, visionary, ambassador, identification figure, DJ, label operator, club owner, and impresario; over a career spanning four decades, Väth has developed many facets of his art and yet has always remained true to himself. The fact that all over the world Berlin music temples of this kind, from Tresor to Watergate, are celebrated as the epitome of party culture, is in no small part due to Väth's influence. Like no other, Väth has given the landscape of electronic music a face -- always evolving, yet unmistakable. With In The Mix: The Sound Of The 20th Season he presents the culmination of his second decade on the "White Island," and it's impressive, how he manages to tick all the boxes. Features: New Jackson, Joseph Ashworth, Joe Metzenmacher, Dorisburg, Amberoom, Charlotte Bendiks, Stimming, Ricardo Tobar, Herzel, Erol Alkan, Rüfüs Du Sol, Zoo Brazil, Innellea, Rebuke, Patrice Bäumel, Joshua James, Josh Wink, Robert Hood, Pig & Dan, Florian Hollerith, ROD, PSYK, Daniel Avery, Inigo Kennedy, and Legowelt. MR RAOUL K & MANOO African Paradigm EPII 12"
Manoo and Mr Raoul K head straight towards the dancefloor: gritty drums, driving synths. In a true wild pitch manner, they build a massive stack of sound and groove which gets knocked over into a nice break that gives plenty of room for Ahmed Sosso's vocals. The second track, deceivingly named "Slowmotion", is all about motion: Skippy beats never stop. They keep feet and heads moving. Sounds rising from far away move through the room and echo away (don't panic, you''l get a little breather before the end). On the flipside, Auztin Pauers & Ezrael transform "O Mera Dil" into a lush yet groovy pieced for late night crowds. Laidback beats, Fender Rhodes-esque keyboard sounds, an organic feel and Lady Parul's vocals are put together so smoothly -- like a comfy sweater that keeps you warm while you dance into the morning. For the last track, Mr Raoul K's long-time collaborator Kuniyuki presents his take on "African Paradigm". His mix takes his time to collect and incorporate inspiration from all six chapters of African Paradigm, using mesmerizing, airy strings to join all pieces. Kuniyuki transforms Mr Raoul K's journey through the history of Africa into a journey through a day. Starting sleepy in the morning, getting more and more busy throughout the day. Then getting some rest, take a nap and prepare to have some fun in the evening.

COUNT BASIE & HIS ORCHESTRA Live At The Savoy Ballroom New York 1954 2CD
Double CD-set in the Jazz Collector edition series! William James "Count" Basie was the US-American musician, bandleader, and composer. In 1935, he formed his own jazz orchestra and led the group for almost 50 years, creating innovations like the use of two "split" tenor saxophones, emphasizing the rhythm section, riffing with a big band, using arrangers to broaden their sound, and others. Despite Basie's death in 1984, the band survived and continued without him. These recordings, live At The Savoy Ballroom New York 1954, feature Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Benny Powell, Marshall Royal, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Don Byas, Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate, Jo Jones, and others.

ENA Baroque LP
Two years in the works, Baroque follows from the D&B-styled flux of Ena's early 2019 collaboration with Felix K (F&E #1) to sound out more unorthodox areas of inquiry of abstruse, Chain Reaction-like sound design and algorithmic decomposition. In terms of the music's boneless construction and roiling spectral nature, it surely ranks among Different Circles' headiest and most psychedelic releases following the dread kinematics of Logos' Imperial Flood album (DIFFLP 003LP) and the cult acclaim given to their killer Raime and Szare 12"s in the past year. Variously recalling the sound of stressed-out machinery or the sferic mystery of The Conet Project, Baroque sees Ena transition further from recognizable styles into a richly enigmatic tonal and texture-rhythmic language. Over the album's six tracks he uses this futurist-primitive mode to express a detached, meditative state-of-mind that speaks to paradoxical ideals of club music and domestic listening: of being simultaneously in it, yet out of it; of finding yourself lost in the crowd of noise. It's a sound that resonates with the short-circuiting AI convulsions of Logos, Mumdance, and Shapednoise's EP for The Death of Rave as much as the hypnagogic mulch of Thought Broadcast or the most abstruse Chain Reaction releases -- think a rusted and sunken Dynamo or Porter Ricks in radioactive waters -- and comes primed in artwork by Raime that perfectly highlights the music's strange, semi-organic nature and austere yet psychoactive allure. RIYL: Porter Ricks, Felix K, Dynamo, Pendant. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Edition of 300.

MOUNT KISMET Warmer Lanes LP
Mysterious trio Mount Kismet present their debut album Warmer Lanes via Disco Halal. Strung together by the dark, alluring vocals of French-Canadian artist C.A.R., the first single, "Teenage Fantasy", combines sparse, synth-driven cold wave with the kind of Middle Eastern electronic elements that have become synonymous with Disco Halal. Based between Berlin and London, Mount Kismet is a project driven by an eastern music obsession and a taste for the heavy pulse of drum machines and the rumbling of analog synthesizers. The group's only other release, the track "Prunes & Dunes", was included in Perfect Strangers, a various artists compilation put out on Disco Halal in 2018 (DH 016EP). An established artist in her own right, C.A.R. has previously collaborated with the likes of Maceo Plex, Red Axes, and Bawrut. Based in Berlin, but firmly rooted in the diverse and forward-facing musical scene of Tel Aviv, Moscoman's Disco Halal label hails from beneath the minarets of the Holy Land. The imprint exists to present a tight-knit and growing community of musicians and producers, each transmitting their unique musical identity, yet each united by a unique sensibility, as well as a harmonious balance of rhythm and experimentation.

ILLBILLY HITEC King Size Dub Special: Illbilly Hitec CD
The Reggaetronic company operating under the project name iLLBiLLY HiTEC is poised to release King Size Dub Special. iLLBiLLY HiTEC's electronic tinkerings and styles have carved a swathe straight through the middle ground of the "sophisticated" modern reggae prevalent on the German scene and even worldwide for more than ten years. The band's strange-sounding name sparks a vision of a "what the fuck" attitude, and it manifests itself with its formidable, sweet-sounding mellifluous sounds. The mix is an intoxicating loop with sound sketches borrowed from reggae into which pseudo-spheric elements from breakbeat, hip hop and pop have been absorbed to weave masterful club dub. Now, after ten years the band will say "Good bye friends, good bye Reggaetronics" and will continue on to new projects. The last gig will happen in Berlin on the 19th of October in the legendary YAAM Club with great special guests and the final chapter will be the release of King Size Dub Special -- time to twist and shout to the glorious music of iLLBiLLY HiTEC. Overdubbed by the London-based Dub Pistols; reggae fusion culture at its best!

With the demise of the group Wire in 1980, founder members Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis joined forces to create Dome. With the assistance of engineer Eric Radcliffe and his Blackwing Studio Dome took the ethic of "using the studio as a compositional tool" and recorded and released three Dome albums on their own label in the space of 12 months: Dome (July, 1980), Dome 2 (October, 1980), and Dome 3 (October 1981). A final fourth album, Will You Speak This Word: Dome 4 was released on the Norwegian Uniton label in May 1983. OTO HIAX Two LP
Second phantasmagorical audio outing from Oto Hiax, the duo of former Seefeel and Loops Haunt members, Mark Clifford and Scott Gordon. Two expands the duo's unique take on spectral synthesis incorporating a diverse amount of approaches to experimental sound. Two expounds a hybrid mix of acoustic based audio design, ambient tonality, sound effects, music, abstraction, and world's hybrid video game soundtrack. There is something of an onomatopoeia quality to the release as the six tracks take on the character of their individual title. "Silt", "Dapple", "Overcurve", "Scutter", "Strain", and "Plates" appear as extremely well executed versions of the inferred intent of their namesake. This inquisitive approach will appeal to those interested in the more exploratory end of sound production providing hope as newly formed methods and colors are exposed from the duo's contemporary audio tactics. Seasoned veterans can lie in a bed of laurels whereas Two is an exemplary release reveling in the enthusiasm that comes from the joy of unabated exploration.

16 HORSEPOWER All Access 4LP BOX
16 Horsepower were one of the most unique and inspirational bands in the history of alternative rock. Comprising of Jean-Yves Tolà (ex-Passion Fodder/Lilium) on drums, Pascal Humbert (Passion Fodder/Lilium/Détroit) on bass, and the charismatic front man David Eugene Edwards (guitars, banjo, bandoneon), they recorded two, highly acclaimed studio albums for A&M in the nineties. The band moved on to Glitterhouse in 2000 to release their undisputed rock-masterpiece Secret South, now with Steve Taylor on electric guitar as a fourth member. Their subsequent tour in 2001 was a triumph, and found its way onto CD with the most impressive double album Live, March 2001. The Guardian raved about their London show: "Tonight, 16 Horsepower are the best band in the world." And anyone who witnessed a 16 Horsepower concert will agree. Three years after the release of Secret South the band -- now comprising of the core trio again -- recorded their darkest, most folky piece of music, Folklore, which is often described as the most intense work of their career. Sadly enough, this album became the swan song of one of the greatest bands of all time. Glitterhouse were their partners during this period, which is widely considered the band's most exciting and creative of their career. Glitterhouse now present these three classic albums in a limited-edition box set titled All Access, all carefully remastered for vinyl. Secret South and Folklore both have been out of print for a long time (and sell for outrageous amounts of money) and for the first time ever, Live March 2001 is seeing the light of day on vinyl. All Access is a must for fans of 16 Horsepower and a great starting point for everybody who missed them the first time around. Includes reprints of the original tour posters from 2001 and 2003, download codes for all three albums, and reworked sleeves. 180 gram, virgin vinyl.

LASSER DRAKAR Piramide 1 LP + 7"
Emilio Acevedo, the man behind Lasser Drakar, is a proper electronic/indie veteran, having been involved in several projects since the late '80s. Founder of the band Titan with which he has put out four albums with, the group collaborated with figures like Gary Numan and Egyptian Lover. With his duos Sonido Lasser Drakar and Maria Daniela Y Su Sonido Lasser he approached dance music in his own high energy pop way always with a touch of humor. Included 7" features Tara Delong on "Socialism".Hippie Dance label head Rebolledo on the release: "Back in 2006, when I had recently opened my first little bar in Playa del Carmen 'Corvette Ninja', Emilio came to town to perform live with Maria Daniela to La Santanera, where I was a resident DJ. Besides his performance there, he agreed to do a solo DJ set at my little place, I was super flashed by the music he was playing which included some amazing covers and references. When he finished playing, I had to ask what all that was... he told me most of it was un edited material he had produced basically just to DJ... I was even more flashed... Ten years passed and we met again in Playa del Carmen having dinner before a show where he was playing with his band and I was DJing... I asked him about that music I was so flashed about a decade ago and he told me he still had it, most of it just in those CDs he used to play, still unreleased... I asked him if he could send it to me to play it and so he did during the next weeks... Every time I would open a file I would be amazed and every time I would play those tracks, the reactions were amazing and often people on my side would ask me what the hell was that... So, at some point I had to ask 'Would you like to release this on our label?' Lucky me, he was up for it and here we are now in 2019 releasing his first solo material under the Lasser Drakar name, the tracks he produced between 2001 and 2004 which in my opinion happen to be more modern than lots of the things you find these days."

INCAPACITANTS Stupid Is Stupid 4LP
Hospital Productions present a reissue of Incapacitants' Stupid Is Stupid, originally released in 1993. In 1993, founding fathers of Japan noise T. Mikawa and F. Kosokai revealed Stupid Is Stupid, one of the most classic titles to emerge from the criminally underrated and revered Incapacitants. A seminal document already over a decade into the duo's unrelenting path of pure chaos after their formation in 1981, Stupid Is Stupid was released as a double cassette on the equally influential Sounds For Consciousness Rape label from France. Divided into studio materials and live materials oddly from two performances at the same venue on two different years. Beyond the massive frequency exploration and freedom of the sounds this set revealed dramatic documentation of the projects history, performances, and influence as shown in the form of color live photos pasted into the metal wire and mesh encased booklet where one can feel the physical energy just from the ravaged and ecstatic face and contorted bodies of the two doing the business. Japanese artist and illustrator Takuya Sakaguchi created The Incapacitants Data File comic book detailing the otherworldly origins behind the devotion and pure frequency dedication only Incapacitants create. Sakaguchi also wrote The Incapacitants Story which reveals insights from the Japanese perspective into how much influence the project achieved as early as 1993. The audio here is painstakingly restored for vinyl by Kris Lapke. Presented in a wide spine slipcase cover with obi strip; includes large format two-sided color poster that no Incapacitants worshipper's home can continue without, alongside full-size comic book and insert card.

MANZANITA Y SU CONJUNTO Arre Caballito LP
Infopesa present a reissue of Manzanita Y Su Conjunto's Arre Caballito, originally released in 1970. Bernardo Hernández, born in the district of Laredo (province of Trujillo), had a predominant role in shaping the origins of Peruvian Cumbia. Under his artistic name, Manzanita, he showcased his prodigious talent as a guitar player through years of live performance. Manzanita discovered his passion for the guitar at an early age, joining his older brother in various performances of Criollo music. In 1962, he was part of the group called Los Pacharacos (later Los Pachas), where he stood out thanks to his guitar skills and a sublime fusion of tropical rhythms and Huayno. His compositions and performances, imbued with full-blooded inventiveness, were seen by hundreds across the region. Manzanita, along with Enrique Delgado (from Los Destellos), must be credited as leading figures and founders of Peruvian Cumbia -- a genre that differs from other variants of Cumbia due to the inclusion of the electric guitar. In, 1968, Bernardo Hernández formed his own group. He met musical producer Alberto Maraví who, upon witnessing his talents, decided to collaborate with him in the release of his first 45RPM; this recording included the songs "Arre Caballito" and "La Parada". But all these plans needed something else to propel the artist toward superstardom: a no-nonsense commercial name. One day, Alberto Maraví asked him if he had any nicknames as a kid and he responded: "Manzanita". Maraví said, "BINGO!" And the rest is history. That same year, the track "Arre Caballito" became an instant hit in Peru. Its record-breaking sales and commercial success led to the recording of Manzanita's first LP, which was released in 1970 and also titled Arre Caballito. This LP was yet another triumph for the guitarist who was only 27 years old at the time. It became the key that opened the door to the bright beginnings of the Peruvian Cumbia. This legendary vinyl returns, renewing and confirming Manzanita's title as "The Greatest Peruvian Guitarist", reacquainting fans with his mesmeric music and paying homage to his legacy. Remastered at Infopesa's studio by Aldo Montalvo under the direction of Juan Ricardo and Alberto Maraví, who produced and oversaw the original mastering of the record in 1970. Reinterpreted artwork using the original cover by Peruvian collage master, Yerko Zlatar. Includes Spanish/English liner notes.

ASHLEY, ROBERT Automatic Writing LP
Lovely Music present a reissue of Robert Ashley's Automatic Writing, originally released as an LP by Lovely Music in 1979. Over the course of Robert Ashley's career his preoccupation with language and the voice took many forms. He became known in his librettos as a wonderful, funny, moving writer. But with Automatic Writing he examines language at a very "primitive" level -- the human impulse make sounds to express his inner state, whether it be regret, embarrassment, fear, or happiness -- even though there is no one else to listen. Talking to oneself.Personnel: Voices - Robert Ashley and Mimi Johnson; Electronics and Polymoog - Robert Ashley; Words: Robert Ashley; Translation: Monsa Norberg; Silhouette: William Farley. The switching circuit was designed and built by Paul DeMarinis. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Robert Ashley at the Center for Contemporary Music, Mills College (Oakland), the American Cultural Center (Paris), and Mastertone Recording Studios (New York). This reissue was remastered and cut, from the original reel-to-reel tape, by Scott Hull, Masterdisk (New York). Manufactured at Record Technology Inc/RTI (California). 180 gram vinyl; Stoughton Old Style sleeve. Includes an insert with a transcription of the words, and the Automatic Writing notes Ashley wrote for Lovely's 1996 CD (that included "Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon" and "She Was A Visitor")."On Automatic Writing, Robert Ashley composes under the influence of his 'involuntary speech.' (In his liner notes, Ashley revealed that he suffered from 'a mild form of Tourette's.') The piece starts quietly, with scraps of Ashley's mild, tremulous voice arranged next to more fluid French translations and barely-there touches of Moog. After Ashley's phrases lengthen enough to encompass sense-making phrases, a bass-register groove briefly appears, vanishes, then returns. Few pieces so quiet have proven as captivating; many that intend to be equally startling can't capture Ashley's range of surprises." --Seth Colter Walls, from Pitchfork's "Fifty Best Ambient Albums of All Time"

DECIMA VICTIMA En El Garaje LP
"After many years, we've recovered a rehearsal session that we had recorded on an old cassette tape. It had originally been laid down on a four-track recorder but unfortunately the tape got lost. The story of these tracks goes back to the last weekend of October 1983, when we went to record at Paco Trinidad's family home in the mountains north of Madrid. It was unexpectedly cold that weekend and we weren't prepared for the drop in temperatures . . . Paco recorded our latest songs on a four-track tape recorder at the house. It was done live, except for extra takes of Lars playing the clarinet and some guitar details. The garage sound, as the name suggests, was achieved in the garage and an adjoining room where José Brena played the drums. I used to write most of the lyrics . . . On this tape the track 'Una Vez Más' is instrumental and it's been so long now that we don't remember if it was like that at the time or if we hadn't defined the vocal melody yet. I rewrote most of the lyrics for the studio edition of the tracks on Un Hombre Solo (1984), with the exception of Lars's version of 'La Frontera Perdida'. It's not that his lyrics weren't good but I was more comfortable singing the words I wrote, as they felt more intimate . . . we always registered the songs as group compositions, drawing no distinctions between lyrics and music. The sleeve design is by Lars, who designed all the covers to our records. It's a photo montage of our performance for the Maqueta de Oro (Gold Demo) at the Diario Pop awards in March 1983, plus another photo of the band in the dressing room at Rock-Ola after playing our last gig. Áurea Cuní carried out the research and coordination among friends of friends in order to find photos of the group. The project for this record began months ago, when Per and his wife, Áurea, commented that they had listened again to the cassette tape of Décima Víctima that they kept in their storage room and had realized the power we had as a band. They said it was an interesting item for collectors and we should release it..." --Carlos Entrena, 2019

SILVER THUNDERS, THE Me Gritan Melenudo LP
"In 1968, The Silver Thunders enjoyed a good reputation within the Bogotá rock circuit . . . Today, none of the three living members of the band remembers where they got the money from to invest in the recording, but they got together three or four hours a week over several months in 1968 at the studio Suramericana de Grabaciones. The details of the sessions are hazy and nobody knows who sat behind the mixing desk. However, Jorge López (lead guitar) and Orlando Córdoba (bass guitar) both say that the studio was uncomfortable and precarious. This didn't undermine the group's upbeat spirit. That's how things were back then: no editing tricks and no option of doing several takes, as reels of tape were very expensive. The Silver Thunders, with Edgardo Córdoba (rhythm guitar) and Carlos Cardona (drums) completing the line-up, recorded live a repertoire influenced by Mersey beat and British R&B, American surf and garage, the psychedelia of The Beatles and a dash of African pop. This is conveyed in the raw cover versions of 'And Your Bird Can Sing', 'Got To Get You Into My Life' and 'A Day In The Life' by the Liverpool four; 'Mary, Mary' by The Monkees; 'Wild Thing' by The Troggs; 'Wild Angels', taken from the soundtrack of the film of the same name; 'Summer In The City' by The Lovin' Spoonful, plus a surprising cover of 'Pata Pata' by the South African artist Miriam Makeba. Although the presence of The Beatles predominates, the band delves deep into style of The Ventures in 'Good Thing' and an exquisite and naive cover version of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' after the instrumental track that Don Wilson and Bob Bogle's combo made famous in 1967. The recording also includes 'Alma Agobiada', an original song by Carlos 'Caniche' Cardona and the only remaining example of The Silver Thunders' own repertoire . . . A couple of years later, Jorge López went off to finish his studies and Carlos Cardona joined the ranks of Los Flippers. The Córdoba twins carried on playing, accompanied by Hernando Orjuela on keyboards and Eduardo Acevedo on drums. They fell under the influence of the mysticism of the guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogui. At the end of the decade, the four Silver Thunders became Los Yoguis and recorded 'Birthday' and 'Revolution' by The Beatles at the Ingeson studios, as well as 'Shape Of Things To Come' and 'Listen To The Music', both from the soundtrack of the film Wild In The Streets..." --Luis Daniel Vega

JUDGITZU Umeme/Kelele 10"
Roving punk ethnomusicologist Julien Hairon, aka Judgitzu, delivers fire on Uganda's Nyege Nyege Tapes with two cuts of high tension, cheek-pulling club G-force. After spending the past six years recording soundscapes and traditional musicians across Asia, Oceania, and Africa, and releasing them on his Les Cartes Postales Sonores label (along with reissues of tape and CD discoveries on his petPets label), Judgitzu's finally presents his first electronic music productions as the result of his residency in Tanzania since 2017. Clearly inspired by the domestic, hyperlocal sound of Singeli, but more stripped and tipped towards minimalism, the results have been lighting up clubs, back-rooms and festivals from Kampala to Salford and beyond over summer 2019, and are only set to go further with this full release. "Umeme" is grade-A rocket fuel that runs at 180bpm for nearly seven minutes of unyielding, panic-inducing stabs and undulating bass rhythms. It starts up ferociously and does not let go until the end, sustaining a state of high alertness that will leave even the most reckless ravers breathless but ready to go again. "Kelele" follows with equal regard for your heart rate and rave health, but this time by stealth and less in-your-face, filtering the drums with field recordings of revving motorbikes and squawking animals in an ebb and flow of pilly rushes and tropical hyperdelia. Hands-down it's one of 2019's deadliest dancefloor sessions and hopefully the start of many to come from an exemplary new producer.

SCORN Cafe Mor 2LP
Double LP version. The first album from Scorn since 2010's Refuse; Start Fires, Cafe Mor is Mick Harris in his happy place. Which just happens to be in studio, demolishing all standards and rules for electronic bass music, and embodying the darkest, deepest sound in dub. Cafe Mor takes risks outside of the conventional Scorn apparatus, and with these risks come substantial rewards. The album is comprised of powerful dub excursions, from the deep dark dank of the front two tracks "Elephant" and "The Lower The Middle Our Bit", and gaining steam towards the ultraviolence of "Mugwump Tea Room" to "Never Let It Be Said" to the crushing death kick of "Who Are They Which One". A quick drive under the lights with a lasered out snare on "Dulce", then you come across the appearance from Sleaford Mods front man, Jason Williamson, on the standout track on the album, "Talk Whiff". A cruise around the Midlands sighting the Broke Fridge and Tinder Surprise, with an instant classic refrain: "Talk Whiff/ I'm a busy person/ I've had enough of it," Cafe Mor culminates in the all-in-one dub affair "SA70", letting rip all the new mixer and FX techniques of Harris's most recent incarnation of Scorn.

SHED Oderbruch 2LP
Double LP version. "What binds you to places? To remembering them. Places you can feel, when you feel at home. Places that affirm your very existence. This place for me is the Oderbruch. This album is dedicated to it." --Rene PawlowitzThe fifth studio album by Shed, aka Rene Pawlowitz, centers thematically on the Oderbruch region in former East Germany where the producer and DJ grew up and continues to split his time (when not in Berlin.) Both the album and track titles as well as the artwork by Arnim Tölke reflect Pawlowitz's deeply personal associations with the borderland's marshy landscape, as well as enormous political and historical changes the region underwent as the last Eastern front during World War II -- and, later, following the dissolution of the GDR. Nevertheless, Oderbruch is not a concept album. Instead, it's an ambivalent ode to the area in which Pawlowitz's family has lived for generations. It's a musical reflection on place and personal history: meeting up at the local gas station, a view to the water, techno rattling the closed windows of cars peeling out toward Berlin or the next local party, cruising along rural parkways flanked by trees with fruit ripe for picking, past weeping willows and abandoned factories where industry once thrived. Outside buzzes with the sounds of nature inextricably linked with childhood memories, but also a landscape defined by the bloody defeat of the Nazis at the Battle of Seelow, ushering in the fall of Berlin and with it, the entire fascist regime. The album's nine tracks are inspired by the intertwined nature of the subjective and historical, which ring through Shed's idiosyncratic take on breaks, bass, techno, symphonic ventures, ambient, and hardcore. But unlike Shed's previous records, Oderbruch incorporates broad pastoral landscapes -- left behind and returned to. Both fit Shed, who under various aliases (Head High, Hoover, Wax, The Higher, WK7, Equalized, The Traveller) has long influenced a number of dance music scenes in Berlin and beyond.

WARWICK, STEVEN MOI LP
MOI is the fearless full-length album by artist and musician Steven Warwick. The record signals a more upbeat reprise following the previous, reflective release Nadir (2016). MOI, the first physical release under his own name (having previously recorded under the Heatsick moniker), is a journey considering interior worlds and personal architecture, as found in early spiritual narratives. Recorded in Berlin, the FUGA residency space in Zaragoza and on location in New York, Warwick's sonic vocabulary is further expanded with intense frenetic rhythms, prismatic melodies, and resonant vocals. Like the dopamine rush of contemporary life, MOI is a sonic roller coaster with a scream-if-you-wanna-go-faster urgency; "Open Fire Hydrant" bursts out like a pressure valve spiraling onto the dancefloor, while "Kaleidoscope" offers cheeky anecdotes as told on a ride home soundtracked by a garage beat. MOI is a spectrum both emotionally and musically, embedded with an underlying spirituality wrestling with existential dread, as witnessed in "Over There", "Salvation", "Kind Of Blue", or the icy digital pulse of "Cold Light Of Day". "Danke" featuring guest vocals from visual artist Josephine Pryde offers a slightly gothic feel, albeit of the architectural variety, while the purgatorial transmissions of "Consolatio", bring a moment of respite. "Rush" is a sensuous percussive workout before concluding on the rampaging seductive house track "Silhouette". "Do you know who I am? Because I don't!" Mastered by Jeremy Cox. Cover photography by Ilya Lipkin. Layout by Bill Kouligas and Johannes Schnatmann.

VA Buzzsaw Joint: Dusty Stylus - Cut 6 LP
Buzzsaw Joint was born of a club offering Londoners the chance to revel in the sounds of good ol' trashy rock'n'roll in all its vintage vinyl forms. Club top-cat, Fritz, then took the primitive Buzzsaw sounds online with a series of savage Mixcloud mixes created by record fiends from all over the globe. Now, the high-octane energy of Buzzsaw Joint has manifested into the physical form with a run of compilations on Stag-O-Lee. Get your ears around the wild n' weird sounds of the extraordinary and inimitable Buzzsaw Joint! Dusty Stylus is a music junkie who lives in the country, a hundred kilometers north of Melbourne, Australia. He spent the late '80s drumming in '60s garage bands and now mainly gets his buzz from collecting post war blues, R&B, and good old Aussie garage rock. He hosts a couple of nights, including the ever-greasy Bacon Fat, and is often on the DJ bill at the phenomenal Slow Grind Fever. For the sixth Buzzsaw Joint cut, Dusty has dusted off a purely top shelf selection of his rare 45 and 78 rpm records. Take the edge off with a hit of this gear here. GOLDMAN, VIVIEN Resolutionary (Songs 1979-1982) LP
2019 repress; LP version. There's a myth about music critics according to which they are frustrated wannabe performers. Evidence to the contrary: Vivien Goldman. The London-born, New York-based Goldman is one of the foremost chroniclers of the perfect storm of reggae, punk, hip hop, and Afrobeat, but between 1979 and 1982, she was also a working musician, creating songs that, years later, would be sampled by The Roots and Madlib. These rare girl grooves are now collected for the first time on Resolutionary, covering Goldman's first three musical formations; first as a member of experimental British new wavers The Flying Lizards, next as a solo artist with her single "Launderette" featuring post-punk luminaries, and then as half of the Parisian duo Chantage with Afro-Parisian chanteuse Eve Blouin. Goldman's eclectic musical crew included PiL's John Lydon, Keith Levene, and Bruce Smith; avant-gardists Steve Beresford and David Toop; The Raincoats' Vicky Aspinall; the mighty Robert Wyatt; Zaire's Jerry Malekani; Manu Dibango's guitarist; Viv Albertine, then of Goldman's good friends The Slits; and dubmaster Adrian Sherwood, who produced the majority of these tracks. Goldman sang in a lilting, clear-toned soprano honed during childhood. She began her singing career in the late '70s, doing backup with Neneh Cherry and Ari Up (The Slits) on Sherwood records by reggae artists including Prince Far I. Goldman was grooving to the innovations of dub. The contrast between Goldman's high, lilting tones and the deep rumble of the bass is a hallmark of all her work, giving a haunting frisson of sex and alienation to songs like The Flying Lizards' "The Window." Reggae had been her London soundtrack, but after moving to Paris in the early '80s, she absorbed music from Africa, an interplay audible in exultant Chantage tracks like "It's Only Money," a mix of steelpan, African soukous guitar, and sobbing Romani violin riding ferocious funk. As the 1990s began, Goldman moved to Manhattan and became New York University's "Punk Professor," teaching original courses on punk, Bob Marley, David Bowie, and Fela Kuti. But she never stopped singing and writing songs. Chicks on Speed released a later cut, "7 Days," on their 2006 Girl Monster compilation (COSR 033CD). Her house 12" records with artists including Berlin's Moritz von Oswald are compiled on LPs. Goldman has also co-written tracks with Massive Attack, Coldcut, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Luscious Jackson. Early in 2016, she performed dub readings onstage with Boston's Berklee Marley Ensemble. Her multimedia beat goes on.

UNIVERS ZERO Phosphorescent Dreams CD
Available for the first time outside Japan, and on LP and CD, Phosphorescent Dreams is another epic album of symphonic schizophrenic avant-rock from Univers Zero, originally released in 2014 -- only on CD -- on the Japanese label Arcàngelo. Phosphorescent Dreams presents at the same time, in the same track, even on a single moment, the complex musical schemes and ways of Univers Zero, ranging from maximalism to minimalism, classical avant-garde with a 2020 vibe in a constant flux. In a blend of tension constantly emerging from a subtle dialogue between avant-rock and contemporary influences, harmonies and dissonance, Phosphorescent Dreams is a balanced formula of old-school know-how reshaped almost 40 years after the release of the seminal LP Univers Zero, reissued by Sub Rosa (SR 399LP, 2016).Univers Zero represents one of the longest-living bands in Belgium. It was established in 1974. Drummer Daniel Denis had the brilliant idea to gather together a team of professionals sharing the same taste for music. The band has adopted an instrumental progressive style. Over the last couple of decades, the band has also implemented a series of influences from chamber music -- most commonly, chamber music from the 20th century. Even if the line-up changes a lot over the years, the overall sound of UZ remained fairly consistent.

ECHEVERRIA Y SU ORQUESTA, ADOLFO Sabroso Bacalao LP
"Born on September 3, 1934 in the barrio of San Roque in Barranquilla, Adolfo Ernesto Echeverría Comas started singing on the radio first as a young man, forming his own conjunto and signing with various labels over the years, becoming one of Colombia's premier band leaders, composers, interpreters, and producers of tropical costeño music in the process. Among many other accolades, he is a winner of five Congo de Oro and one El Cacique de Oro awards; his holiday songs 'Las Cuatro Fiestas' and 'La Inmaculada' are recognized as national treasures. During his long and successful career, he has toured Venezuela, Panamá, and Ecuador, and while performing in the United States was befriended by Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. Recognizing his songwriting talents, the pair asked him for a tune and he gave them "Salsa De Tomate", inspired by Tito's hatred of the term, which they recorded for their 'Alma Con Alma' release on Tico Records in 1971. By 1976, Adolfo Echeverría had signed with Discos Fuentes, where he was to remain until 1990 when he suffered a heart attack and was sadly never able to resume his career. Echeverría's first year with the label was a great success, with his eponymous debut LP containing his biggest hit, the self-penned cumbia party anthem 'Amaneciendo'. The following year, working again with the Fuentes hit production team of Isaac Villanueva and Hernán Colorado, Echeverría came out with 'Sabroso Bacalao', sharing the vocals with Freddy Cruz and Manuel Cassiani. As with the first album, in addition to some hot, driving hardcore salsa tracks like 'Mi Viejo Barrio' and 'Perdóname', Echeverría made sure to include his beloved tasty indigenous cumbia and porro. In addition, the cut 'Llorando Por Ti' is in the Afro-Cuban oriza rhythm style, while 'Locura Es Mi Cumbelé' is described as a 'cumbelé' (inspired by The New Swing Sextet's 1970 song 'Cum Cumbele', which is a variant on the bomba, an Afro-Puerto Rican folkloric drum-based genre). Throughout this diverse genre-hopping album one can always hear the forcefully fiery piano of Hugo Molinares, who also composed the monster guaguancó track 'Sabroso Bacalao'. At the time, the LP yielded the domestic hit 'Fantasía Marina' but in recent years 'Noches De Cumbia' and the title track have become international tropical DJ dancefloor standards across the globe, making this record a must-have for collectors, disk jockeys and aficionados of the classic Fuentes sound." --Pablo Iglesias, aka DJ Bongohead

EL AFROCOMBO Pan Con Salsa LP
"Although Pete Vicentini's El Afrocombo did not have the overwhelming commercial and international success of Fruko y sus Tesos, Joe Arroyo y La Verdad, or Grupo Niche during the height of Colombian salsa in the 1970s and '80s, Pedro 'Pete' Luis Vicentini del Valle (born in 1946) and his combo did have a popular following among fans in the Atlantic and Caribbean coastal areas of Colombia . . . In addition to founding what would become El Afrocombo, Vicentini was associated for several decades with the popular singer Jackie Carazo and was a member of Carazo's El Clan Antillano as well as Chico Cervantes y su Sonora Caliente. Pan Con Salsa is Vicentini and El Afrocombo's first long play and was released in 1971. As the title (and humorous cover) suggest, the majority of selections on the record are in the salsa genre that was gaining steam at the time in South America. In reality, though, the album includes Vicentini's native costeño rhythms like cumbia and porro as well (on the tunes 'Barranquilla, Sol Y Cumbia' and 'Tus Lindos Ojos'). The LP has its own lively 'combo' sound in the plucky brass section (two trumpets and two saxes), plus the always bright and happy piano stylings of Willy Newball and of course the prominent bass playing, expert direction and arrangements of Vicentini. Additionally, the record contains the band's first hit, 'El Huevo', which is a cover version of Peruvian vocalist Félix Martínez's popular 1971 tune in the guajira genre with Lima's Los Girasoles, 'Ese Huevo Se Pasó'. In addition, there are some super hot original salsa tunes like 'Mira Muñeco' and 'La Fiesta Del Mar', a funky boogaloo cover of Tito Puente's ubiquitous 'Oye Cómo Va' (with a cool clavinet solo), a Puerto Rican style bomba written by Carazo, and the title track, composed by Vicentini, which is a frenetic descarga (jam session) with lots of tasty brass solos, in-the-pocket piano tumbaos (riffs) and break-neck percussion work-outs. This album is definitely a persuasive argument for including the unjustly obscure El Afrocombo in the pantheon of hot Antillean-inspired bands from Barranquilla and proof that Colombia's Caribbean coastal region was instrumental in pioneering the popularity of domestically produced salsa there in the 1970s, helping it spread into the interior and from there internationally by the '80s and '90s." --Pablo Iglesias, aka DJ Bongohead Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

LA CUMBIA MODERNA DE SOLEDAD La Clavada LP
"... Octogenarian musician, composer, vocalist and teacher Pedro Beltrán aka 'Ramayá' hails from Patico, a small town in Colombia's Bolívar province, not far from the Caribbean coast. He has been crowned Rei Momo of the carnival in Barranquilla, and recorded many albums as a leader and sideman, working with various domestic and international pop artists as well, from Quantic and Thornado to Systema Solar. While his main instrument is the ;caña de millo' flute, he is also proficient in the various percussion instruments of his region as well as the reed instrument known as 'gaita'. His group La Cumbia Moderna de Soledad (named for the large city within the municipality of Barranquilla) was founded in the early 1970s when Ramayá had already retired from a career in the army and was living in Soledad. With this group he set out to 'modernize' the folkloric music of his people, adding the electric bass and a brass section to fresh arrangements of cumbias, porros, fandangos, puyas, and other costeño genres. What's more, the band often did left-field cover versions of international dance hits that were popular in the region's sound systems (picós) and discotheques, from Fela Ransome-Kuti And The Africa '70's 'Shakara Oloje' to Rod Stewart's 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy'. If you think this sounds like a case of post-colonial cargo-cult worship or a record label marketing gimmick, think again, because there is something fantastically otherworldly yet 'right' about this cross-cultural mash-up, especially since La Cumbia Moderna de Soledad proudly maintained its authentic Afro-Colombian and indigenous roots throughout, making for an infectious mix that was very popular at the time (especially in the Carnaval de Barranquilla) and is still danced to today by Colombians and other fans all over the world. In a way it's as if these musicians, brought up in the ancient rural traditions of their culture, were trying to make musical sense of the rapidly changing and mechanizing urban environment around them. La Clavada (1979) was La Cumbia Moderna de Soledad's sixth record and first for Codiscos' Costeño imprint. The LP has many excellent examples of Pedro 'Ramayá' Beltrán's innovative, catchy and downright playful mix of the ancient and the modern, making for a collection of tunes brimming with tradition and yet fearlessly bristling with innovation..." --Pablo Iglesias, aka DJ Bongohead Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

DE LA BARRERA Y SU SONORA, ROBERTO Se Formo La Salsa LP
"... Roberto de la Barrera was arguably the first cartagenero to record music that would later be labeled 'tropical' and 'salsa' with his group Roberto de la Barrera y su Sonora, starting off with cumbia, porro, charanga, and pachanga in the early to mid-1960s, and ending the decade with guaguancó, guaracha, descarga and son montuno, leaving a handful of gems for posterity, such as 'El Baile De Los Cocacolos', 'Vamos A Guarachar' and 'Se Formó' from the earlier period and 'Se Formó La Salsa', 'Mi Sonora' and 'Oye Mi Ritmo' as the 1970s began. After taking the piano seat in the Discos Fuentes house orchestra and being hired in 1964 by label boss Antonio Fuentes as the regional musical director in the Caribbean area (based in Cartagena), where he subsequently discovered, signed and produced a lot of local talent, the following year Roberto de la Barrera y su Sonora recorded Pa' Los Cocacolos, his first long play under his own name for the label, succeeded by ¡Pa' cumbanchar! and finally Se Formó La Salsa in 1970. All of his arrangements feature an interesting mix of Colombian and Cuban flavors, sometimes within the same tune, and often with that wonderful raw, loose, improvisational quality associated with the 'descarga' jam sessions of Cachao and others a decade before. Perhaps the best example of this is 'Mi Sonora' from Se Formó La Salsa, where the vocalist Felipe Sembergman actually name-checks New York's famous Village Gate, home of many Latin jazz and salsa concerts at the time, thus making the connection explicit between what was beginning to catch on in Colombia as "salsa" and its New York Latin roots. Whatever the case, immediately in Roberto de la Barrera's wake, a whole slew of groups from the coastal regions started performing in this style . . . Sometimes the Colombian 'salsa' sound was mixed, at other times the genres were kept separate, but a certain Caribbean aesthetic carried its way through everything these artists did, and Roberto de la Barrera was a pioneer in introducing modern Latin sounds from Havana, New York and San Juan..." --Pablo Iglesias, aka DJ Bongohead Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

ALTERNATIVE TV Primitive Emotions CD
A collection of Alternative TV songs during recent years that have appeared on vinyl-only releases or compilations and suchlike. Includes "This Little Girl", "Negative Primitive", "The System", "Radiator", "Walls", and "Chinese Burn", amongst others. "Chinese Burn" will be a different version to the one which appears on the "Low Expectations" compilation 10" on Fourth Dimension. Even if you own some of the vinyl, this will be a neat way of listening to the tracks as they map out an arc in the group's more recent development that makes perfect sense hearing them all together on one release. As Mark Perry himself said, this release actually sounds more like an album in its own right than what's otherwise tantamount to a compilation gathering together various loose ends. However you choose to look at it, the CD makes for another great entry in the band's illustrious career, once again underlining that fine balance between commentary strewn songwriting that itself can sway perfectly between the melodic and more intense, plus pieces that nod to Mark's own love of electronic music drawing from the worlds of early industrial music and the avant-garde. As with only a few groups who initially came out of the cultural shift of the late '70s, Alternative TV always kept moving forward and exploring new ideas without completely abandoning everything that made them (a not so blind) force to be reckoned with at the outset.

FACTA Scales + Measures EP 12"
Wisdom Teeth label-head Facta returns to home turf with a three-track EP of melodic, bleeping, broken beats. Last appearing on the label back in 2014, Scales + Measures EP marks the producer's first self-released solo EP -- a return after five years, during which he has developed his sound through releases on Livity Sound, Ancient Monarchy, Idle Hands, Tempa, and beyond. Scales + Measures is Facta's most colorful release to date, trading out the dark minimalism of his early releases for poppy chords and warping, plasticky synths. Rhythmically the record makes nods to 140 bpm electro ("Rose Red"), UK funky ("Scales + Measures"), and dubby break-beat house ("4C Loop"), but the melodies and textures come from elsewhere: drill, rave, r'n'b and modern pop music.

OJIMA, YOSHIO Une Collection des Chainons I and II: Music for Spiral 2CD
WRWTFWW Records announce a reissue of both volumes of Yoshio Ojima's superb environmental music project Une Collection Des Chaînons I And II: Music For Spiral, originally released in 1988. The twenty-track opus is sourced from original masters and includes liner notes in English and Japanese. This marks the inaugural release from the Esplanade Series by WRWTFWW Records, which focuses on the works of Ojima and friends. Une Collection... gathers selected music pieces conceptualized and produced for sound-designing the Wacoal Art Center in Aoyama (Tokyo) also known as Spiral, a hub for a wide range of sophisticated cultural proposals spanning visual arts, theatre, music, design, fashion, and lifestyle. Spiral is a monumental work of architecture by Fumihiko Maki, designed according to the principles of Metabolism, a movement advocating evolving designs and constructions, adapting to human needs naturally. The first volume flows from the eerie and levitating "Entrance" to the quirky "Esplanade (Live)", the gentle and reassuring "Flius", and the measured and ravishing escalation of "Mensis." On the second volume, the nanoscopic neoclassical lullaby "Les Trois Grâces" brings attention to the importance of small details, "Pulse at Soothe" starts with the minimalism of a Satoshi Ashikawa piece and slowly drifts into mystical landscapes and cavernous echoes, "Entomology" and its melancholic artificial forest evokes a Twin Peaks mirage, and "Atrium" literally feels like a floating visit of a gigantic open space structure. Sitting alongside Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass (WRWTFWW 018LP/019CD/019LP, 2017), Ashikawa's Still Way (WRWTFWW 030CD/LP, 2019), Hiroshi Yoshimura's Green (1986), or Yutaka Hirose's NOVA (WRWTFWW 028CD/LTD, 2019), as a pivotal work of Japanese environmental/ambient/minimalist music, Une Collection des Chaînons (which translates as a collection of links) is a delicately laid out sonic landscape connecting space and emotions, architecture and humanity, adjusting and transforming through the ears of the listeners. A note from Ojima: "Please listen to this album at around the same volume as daily life sounds such as air conditioners and refrigerators."Une Collection Des Chaînons I And II: Music For Spiral is presented as 2-CD set compiling both volumes (WRWTFWW 031CD) or as two separate double LPs, each containing a volume (WRWTFWW 031-1LP/031-2LP). RIYL: Midori Takada, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Satoshi Ashikawa, Yutaka Hirose. Digipack with selected UV high-gloss varnish, liner notes, and sticker. 2LP versions in 350gsm gatefold with selected UV high-gloss varnish, liner notes, sticker.

GRAUZONE Raum 12"
WRWTFWW Records is beyond thrilled to announce the first ever vinyl maxi-single release for Raum, Grauzone's best-kept secret and underground mega-gem from 1980. The four-track affair includes the full title track sourced from the original reels. The 12-inch vinyl is cut at 45rpm and comes with a never-seen cover art by band member Stephan Eicher and a handmade Xerox hype sticker. Initially released almost 40 years ago on the beloved compilation Swiss Wave The Album (Off Course Records, 1980) alongside the band's massive hit "Eisbär", "Raum" is the biggest Grauzone track people have yet to discover. An über-infectious New York style bassline played by Christian "GT" Trüssel and frantic drumming by Marco Repetto's blend with Martin Eicher's hauntingly hopeless lyrics and Claudine Chirac's saxophone escapades to personify post-punk heaven and all its wonderful anomalies. It's disco with an edge, pop filled with fear, it's The Cure infused with proto techno and Swiss art chic. Or maybe, it's simply one hell of a song that will make you dance and shout. Further on the A-side, Naum Gabo's rework takes Grauzone to modern dancefloors with a thumping track and bounce-inducing groove on which Liquid Liquid's very own Dennis Young adds magic in the form of marimba, Roto Toms, and EBowed guitar. The energy is electric, the sound is huge, a club banger with extra heart, ready for sound systems of all kinds. The B-side features Ata Macias's fabled extended version of "Raum" (first released in 2010 via Live at Robert Johnson) that Stephan Eicher described as "the perfect Grauzone edit" (and it is!), plus a straight to the point radio edit of Naum Gabo's rework. This release follows WRWTFWW's reissue of Grauzone's Eisbär maxi-single (WRWTFWW 041EP) as part of the 40 years anniversary of the band.
