BIG JOANIE Sistahs LP
2020 repress on gold vinyl. The first record in the Daydream Library series is London's black feminist punk band Big Joanie's debut album Sistahs. Big Joanie are Stephanie Phillips (singer/guitarist), Estella Adeyeri (bass) and Chardine Taylor-Stone (drums). The band formed in 2013 and released their first EP, Sistah Punk in 2014 and the single Crooked Room in 2016. As part of London's thriving DIY punk scene Big Joanie have played with locals Shopping, toured with US punks Downtown Boys, and Dutch punk band The Ex. Inspired by The Ronettes, Nirvana, Breeders, and Jesus and Mary Chain, Big Joanie have described themselves as being "similar to The Ronettes filtered through '80s DIY and Riot Grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis." Big Joanie recorded Sistahs at Hermitage Works Studio with producer Margo Broom. The album title derives from the band's belief in sisterhood and female friendship. One of the main reasons for coming together was to create an atmosphere to be "completely ourselves as black women and discover what was possible to realize in those spaces." The album cover features Steph's mum Joan, whom the band is named after, and her aunt on holiday in Wales. The Daydream Library Series of records and tapes is the independent house label of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Eva Prinz's publishing imprint Ecstatic Peace Library. The Daydream Series was established in 2018 to provide a label for emerging musicians, both local and international. In this series curated by Prinz, Moore, and Abby Banks, a limited edition number of vinyl or cassette albums will be released in a pristine "collector's edition" package with the highest quality recordings, impeccable design and handmade fanzines with the album's liner notes and interviews with the bands. Sistahs is an optimistic album about friendship, melancholic memories, and the belief in a modern future. Eva and Thurston discovered Big Joanie playing live supporting The Ex in Islington (London) earlier this spring and ran to the merch table to discover the band didn't have a record with all the songs that had just mesmerized the audience.

TALIBAM! WITH SILKE EBERHARD AND NIKOLAUS NEUSER This Week Is In Two Weeks LP
Recorded direct to lathe cut, this pair of spontaneous creations teams two Berlin-based horn players with two New Yorkers of broad-ranging vision. Talibam! (Matt Mottel and Kevin Shea) is a 14-year working unit based in New York City that can be described in various ways -- as a classic keyboards/drums expanded-jazz duo, as Dadaist provocateurs with an innate love for the history of music, as a Fluxus-informed theater troupe, as an electronic ensemble inspired by Stockhausen, or as a rhythm section at the cross hair of agility, speed, punctuation, and intention. Since their inception in 2003, Talibam!'s ultimate goal has been to wed disparate ideologies through proficiency, controversy, inquiry, and compassion. This is their fifth release on ESP-Disk'. Silke Eberhard is the recipient of the prestigious 2020 Jazzprize Berlin. Twice she has been awarded a spot in the "Rising Star Alto Saxophone" category in the Downbeat Critics poll. Leader of the Silke Eberhard Trio and the Dectett Potsa Lotsa XL, she has also played with Maggie Nicols, Aki Takase, Gerry Hemingway, Ulrich Gumpert, Dave Burrell, Wayne Horvitz, and more, and is a member of the collective trio I Am Three. Nikolaus Neuser, also in I Am Three, has played with Gebhard Ullmann, Matthias Schubert, Maggie Nicols, Matana Roberts, Matthew Herbert, Tyshawn Sorey, Nate Wooley, Satoko Fujii, Benny Bailey, Herb Geller, etc. His main interest lies in the border areas between jazz, free improvisation, and transdisciplinary projects. Furthermore, he has composed music for several plays, was a guest professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, and appears on more than 50 CDs. Personnel: Silke Eberhard - alto saxophone; Nikolaus Neuser - trumpet; Matt Mottel - piano, synthesizer, three-string guitar; Kevin Shea - drums. Artwork by the late New York poet/collage artist Steve Dalachinsky. Edition of 500.

SLY & THE FAMILY DRONE Walk It Dry LP
London's kings of noise Sly & The Family Drone follow up their 2019 Love Love LP Gentle Persuaders with Walk It Dry, an eight-track LP collaboratively released by Love Love Records in the UK and Feeding Tube Records in the USA. Walk It Dry utilizes the familiar sound palette of scronked electronics, bulging noise blasts, wailing sax, and Kalashnikov drums that was found on Gentle Persuaders but is a very a different beast. The tracks here are shorter and punchier as the band digs deeper than ever to find increasingly potent sonic pockets. Bolstered with a directional force rare in this strain of noise the album begins at the deep end with "A Black Uniformed Strutting Animal", a raucous cacophony backed by a thick groove, before the bleeps and bloops of "Dead Cat Chaos Magician" kick in, sounding like a haunting in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. "Swearing On The Horns" is a folk-sludge ditty scraping through a psychic wormhole that exits at the feet of "Bulgarian Steel" -- a grimacing march punctuated with metallic screams where the sax becomes an overstressed alarm siren. "Shrieking Grief", with its rapid fire drum rolls and megaton payloads of pummeling noise, concludes the A side loudly. Side B opens with stretched-out droning layers and winding loops on "Sunken Disorderly", providing a gloomy refuge for some cosmic meditation. The album at this point converges into the morbidly fascinating black-and-white horror of "My Torso Is A Shotgun", perhaps the most widescreen and immediate example of the band's progression, before playing out with the deathly lament of "Tsukiji". A suitable soundtrack to the end-times.

DARGE, MONIEK Bratschebraut LP
First time vinyl issue of key works from the Belgian artist-musician Moniek Darge. Following a deep-excavation of the Logos archives London's Horn Of Plenty presents Bratschebraut -- four works utilizing prepared violin, electronics, tapes, and voice. These recordings are from the same era as Moniek's classic Sounds of Sacred Places LP (1980). Bratschebraut extends the story of Moniek's work during this period: playful, intimate, raw, and quite unique. Although they were recorded across a seven-year period and were not intended to sit together, the music on Bratschebraut, seen retrospectively, captures a pivotal era in Moniek's artistic development. A period that saw her challenge, destroy, then create anew. Bratschebraut both a significant addition to Moniek's catalog and an essential historical document. Bratschebraut comes in an on red vinyl; housed in a full-color sleeve with deluxe PVC bag; includes 28-page booklet containing artist's notes, previously unpublished photos, and details from the original graphic score for ManMo. Edition of 300.

WIPERS Is This Real? LP
Restocked. "Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, the Wipers formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut LP, Is This Real? -- twelve songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the LP has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 25 years. In the early 1990s Is This Real? was given mainstream attention when Nirvana covered two tracks off the record and Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group. While it was reissued on compact disc and available as a part of the Wipers Boxed Set (Zeno), this is the first time Is This Real? has been available on vinyl in the U.S. since its initial release. Remastered from original tapes as provided by Greg Sage himself, the LP is pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and housed in a deluxe tip-on sleeve. Complete with a printed insert that replicates the original innersleeve, the Jackpot Records reissue of Is This Real? is a lavish tribute to one of the greatest recordings of the last 30 years."

KOLSCH Speicher 68 12"
2020 repress. Kompakt welcomes a force to be reckoned with on the fitting home of Speicher -- Denmark's Rune Riley Kölsch. Tried and tested by Michael Mayer through his relentless touring, "Loreley" has proven to have been a highlight. Though 4-to-the-floor, the spirit of schaffel permeates Kölsch's utterly epic tune. "Silberpfeil" retains the simple playfulness that crests and builds with the single's partner track, but straddles a deeper concoction of melody and harmony.

KOLSCH Speicher 70 12"
2020 repress. Rune Riley Kölsch is a tall Danish guy and it's quite likely that you've already heard some of his tracks out in a club. After his impressive debut on Kompakt Extra, he's back with another killer double header. "Opa" is steroid-driven funk with a heavily mental edge powerful enough to lift the roof off any club. "Der Alte" pays tribute to Germany's long-running TV series "The Old Man" with a piano anthem that sits comfortably between Balearic disco and Detroit techno.

CURE, THE Three Imaginary Boys LP
2020 repress. The undisputed leaders of the early gothic scene, and a seminal band that contributed to the rise of British post-punk, The Cure recorded their debut album Three Imaginary Boys at London's Morgan Studios and released it in May 1979. After touring for almost all of 1977, the band changed their name to The Cure and rearranged their line-up with the sacking of Porl Thompson, giving birth to an unusual power trio. This line-up lasted only for their first album, making it unique in its essentially minimal sound. The year was now 1978, and the three (imaginary?) boys soon signed to Chris Parry's Fiction Label.

BAMBA WASSOULOU GROOVE Dankele LP
"The Bamba Wassoulou Groove is composed of 6 musicians (three guitars, one bass, a drum and a singer) and is here to create a real wall of sound. Solis with Hendrixian virtuosos, trance voice, evil bass and drum sections, the band is a heavy dance machine who electrifies the Malian music and recreates the excitement of the hot nights in Bamako. Philippe Conrath (creator of Festival Africolor) explains: 'To create the Bamba Wassoulou Groove a connoisseur was needed, a man of confidence who would also ensure human and musical unity. Who better than Bamba Dembélé (who passed in 2018) to build such a band? Bamba, the indispensable, the fixer, the invincible. Former member of Zani Diabatatés legendary Super Djata Band, he had all the contacts in Bamako to set up the Wassoulou Groove. He launched a formidable machine with an unrelenting rhythm, that allowed the three fierce guitars of the group to soar, carrying Ousmane Diakité's voice into a trance. funk, rock, the Bamba Wassoulou Groove is a new virus that will contaminate the world's dance floors.'"

LAIBACH Bremenmarsch: Live At Schlachthof, 12.10.1987 2LP
"Laibach is art, but more than just art. Founded on 1st June 1980 in the then heavy industrial Yugoslavian town of Trbovlje (today a city in central Slovenia), the band took their name after the German designation of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana which was undesirable in Yugoslavia during the Tito's and post-Tito era. In 1987 Laibach signed a long-term contract with Daniel Miller's renowned London Mute Label and had finally found their musical home. The artists roster of Mute included such well-known artists as Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Erasure, Yazoo, Moby and also Kraftwerk. From now on the commercial success story of Laibach could also be written. Mute released Opus Dei. The album includes, inter alia, a specific 'Laibach' - interpretation of 'Live Is Life', the big single hit of the Austrian group Opus (one as a German version under the name 'Leben heißt Leben' as well as an English version under the title 'Opus Dei') and also the interpretation of the Queen track 'One Vision' (in German under 'Geburt einer Nation'). The sound of Laibach had become more commercial, the avant-garde and industrial parts gave way in favour to Laibach's 'militant classicism', the band had found its style. Laibach went on tour, now playing in larger halls and clubs in Germany. On 12th October 1987 Laibach made a stop at the Bremen Schlachthof. Here the live album Bremermarsch was recorded, which is now released 33 years later. In spring 2020 Laibach edited the 'old' original recordings and digitally mastered them in their studio. The recordings sound fresh and unspent, the sound is great, the mood in the audience as well. And that Laibach is performing the 'hits' such as 'Die Liebe', 'Life is Life' and 'Geburt einer Nation' ('Birth of a Nation') can almost be taken for granted."

MORRICONE, ENNIO Themes: Psycho (Color Vinyl) 2LP
"Psycho is the second in a series of five double vinyl releases that bring together some of Ennio Morricone's greatest soundtrack music. Each collection centers on a different movie genre, together they allow the listener to rediscover the unmatched genius of the greatest movie composer of all time. The Maestro. This collection is dedicated to Morricone's work with Italian directors spanning the late 1960s up to the 1980s. These scores accompany some darkly dramatic films, some veering into the realms of horror. The music highlights the psychological tension within the films and contrasts with his work in the USA during the same era. This is Morricone where he feels truly at home, working with the nuances and drama of the Italian psyche as laid bare by Italian filmmakers. Starting 70 years ago as an arranger for the piece Mamma Bianca, Ennio Morricone is the emperor of scores and soundtracks. Morricone has always been a huge influence for the likes of Hans Zimmer, Danger Mouse, Muse, Metallica and many more musicians. He's one of the most successful composers of all-time, selling over 70 million records and winning dozens of awards. Psycho is available as a limited edition of 3000 individually numbered copies on translucent red vinyl. The package includes a 4-page insert with liner notes written by Claudio Fuiano. The gatefold sleeve contains a red-spot varnish on the outside and images of iconic movie posters on the inside."

SWANS Where Does A Body End? (Deluxe Edition) 2xBLU-RAY
Deluxe edition; 156 minutes of bonus material. "Where Does a Body End? is an intimate portrait of the band SWANS, from their roots as a brutal, confrontational post-punk band that emerged from the same early 1980s era NYC that gave us Sonic Youth (and, somehow, Madonna) through their ill-fated bid at mainstream success in the '90s indie-rock gold rush, through breakups and chaos (on and offstage) to their odds-defying current status as one of the most accomplished and ambitious bands in the world, one whose concerts are more like ecstatic rituals than nostalgic trips back through their most popular songs. SWANS has always been a collection of singular performers, but there's been one constant since its formation in 1982 -- singer, songwriter Michael Gira. With unfettered access to hundreds of hours of Gira/SWANS archives of never-seen-before recordings, videos, and photographs, the film brings us along the path they needed to carve for themselves. The film is many things, a musical history, a time-capsule, a tour diary, a concert film, but mostly it's the story of a life in the arts, frequently difficult, spanning decades without a safety net, creating the work because Gira says 'What else am I going to do?' As bandmate Thor Harris notes, 'Michael is not a fearless person, but he is a fearless artist.'"

"Coinciding with Profondo Rosso's 45th anniversary, Claudio Simonetti's Goblin celebrates this anniversary with a new version of the famous soundtrack. The incredible existential and atmospheric experience of Dario Argento's films come from the merging of gorgeously crafted visuals with a soul tingling auditory experience. Once heard, Goblin's scores are never quite forgotten. Profondo Rosso is no exception, characterized by its synth heavy sound and chilling central theme. Along with Suspiria, Profondo Rosso is perhaps Argento's most celebrated film and a classic of the giallo horror subgenre in its own right. A surreal masterpiece from Dario Argento with a pounding score from cult prog rockers Goblin, Profondo Rosso (Deep Red) will leave you battered and breathless! Essential! EL GOODO Zombie CD
An incomparable world of bug-eyed, harmony-rich folk-pop-psych-alt-country-rock lies in wait for intrepid listeners as the best Welsh band the world nearly forgot, El Goodo, return with only their fourth album in a 20-year career, Zombie. The first single to be revealed, "The Grey Tower", is an expansive, five-minute trip through the '60s heat of Lauren Canyon and Haight-Ashbury via the picturesque Vale of Neath. The result of a rapid-fire period of easy-come recording at the legendary Rockfield Studios in the company of experimental producer, Tim Lewis (aka Thighpaulsandra, a Julian Cope collaborator and former member of Spiritualized), El Goodo's 13-track long player gathers loose ends from the band's stop-start lifespan, as well as brand new songs exploring parenthood, losing parents and -- tangentially -- Spanish surrealist film. Featuring over 20 musicians -- including core members Pixy Jones (lead vocals/guitars/keys), Elliott Jones (drums), Jason Jones (vocals/guitars), and Andrew Cann (bass) -- the album welcomes contributions from Sweet Baboo/Stephen Black (clarinet/bass clarinet/flute) and Welsh Music Prize-nominee, Eugene Capper (violin/slide guitar). The Grey Tower itself is assembled of 17 players, finessing the ride between bright, sun-dappled hippy pop and intense, squally fuzz with saxophone, harmonica, heavy strings and a Baldwin Electric Harpsichord. As well as recording Zombie direct to tape, El Goodo dug around in Lewis' rich archive of analogue equipment at his Aeriel studio in Carmarthenshire, including a rare Univox early synth used by Joe Meek in the recording of his 1962 game-changer "Telstar" (now used by the band on "I Can't Leave"). The result of their journey is a rich tapestry of valve-powered sound, recalling the White Album (1968), Scott Walker, The Troggs, Gene Clark, the Beach Boys and numerous other "golden-age" sonic explorers. The album is named after Lewis's sadly-departed dog -- etched in the band's memories and nasal passages as a vegetable-loving creature, with noxious after effects. Forming in the late '90s, El Goodo (named after the Big Star song, "Ballad Of El Goodo") emerged with intent as not only a support band for Super Furry Animals on their 2006 UK tour, but also as label mates as the Furries released the band's self-titled debut on their Placid Casual label in 2005. The next 15 years saw El Goodo blip contentedly on the radar as a gently persistent musical jewel cherished by knowing audiophiles.

HAACK, BRUCE The Preservation Tapes LP
Last copies, reduced pricing. "In 2016, after reissuing two Bruce Haack albums, Haackula and Electric Lucifer Book II, Telephone Explosion began speaking with Ted Pandel (Bruce's lifelong friend and business partner) about working on the 1970 masterpiece The Electric Lucifer. It turned out there was another matter that he wanted to discuss: finding a final resting place for the Bruce Haack archive. We were shown test-pressings of The Electric Lucifer board mixes from his Columbia studio sessions, countless pieces of written music, a large number of personal photos, an invitation from Raymond Scott inviting Bruce to play his newly created Electronium instrument (now owned by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh), poems, press clippings, and, most importantly, a heavy-duty shelf containing 213 reel-to-reel tapes. All of the chosen material on The Preservation Tapes is unreleased, has only been heard by a handful of people and showcases a relatively unknown period in Bruce's musical career where Bruce was recording for Sparrow Records (who billed themselves as 'America's best Christian music record label'). Bruce's signature Farad vocoder continues to feature prominently, but the lyrical content is decidedly more religious. The Bruce Haack archive is now resting in the Provincial Archives of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada."
