TENNISCOATS Music Exists Disc 2 LP
Alien Transistor and Tokyo-based label Afterhours present the second of four discs in a vinyl release of Tenniscoats's masterpiece Music Exists. Music Exists Disc 2 functions as a complement and extension of Disc 1 (N 049LP, 2015). Even more incredibly beautiful melodies, more subtle and psychedelic orchestration (Spanish guitar, Casio-keyboards, trombone, drum-computer), and more heartfelt singing and playing. Before Disc 3 sees the band reunite with their old friends and colleagues, the Swedish musicians from Tape, they concentrate once more on their very own language of making music, and present another collection of essential Tenniscoats songs. Tenniscoats have devoted followers all over the world, but their releases were always hard to find outside of Japan. Except for their album Tokinouta (2011), which saw a very limited run on vinyl, and the seminal Two Sunsets (2009), their collaboration with the Pastels, there were never any vinyl releases, and also the CDs were hard to get for anyone, who doesn't speak or read Japanese. In their 20 years, the band has also collaborated with Jad Fair, Norman Blake and others. This is the chance to dive deep into the beautiful, unique world of the Tenniscoats and their magnum opus Music Exists. "It may even be their greatest ever music, essential plus." -- Monorail Music, Glasgow. "Whatever's ailing you, Tokyo's Tenniscoats have got something for that." -- Boomkat, Manchester.

HUERTA Apache Line 12"
Huerta presents Apache Line, bringing Youandewan. "Mandala" carries itself through chugging shakers and pad-work, held tightly in place by the squelchy, off-kilter lead. The tune never quite sits still, bubbling about by each percolating percussive layer. "Eistee" is at best the chiller-fitting, with jacking percussion and complimenting drum programming giving this track its toughness. "Apache Line" only reaches its incline after the minute mark. Spring delayed and filtered heavily, the track's wonky lead bleeds through as if to enrapture you in its thermal clutch. Youandewan adds the floor-readied "Yo Endlos" - simplicity in its step but tightness throughout its progression.

Restocked. "1972 was a busy year for Japan's favorite experimental rock band. After several months spent touring Europe, group leader Takehisa Kosugi (currently music director for the Merce Cunningham dance company in the USA) decided to make good on the band's name and embark on a monumental voyage across Europe and Asia, driving a VW bus from Rotterdam all the way to the Taj Mahal in India. Amazingly, the band got as far as Pakistan before having to fly the rest of the way to the Taj Mahal due to border restrictions. By July of 1972, the band was back home in Japan, and still playing nonstop. The three tracks on side A were recorded live during this historic tour, while side B was recorded a year later at the famous Oz Club in Tokyo, during a five day music festival celebrating the venue's final days." Clear blue vinyl in clear plastic sleeve with black lettering (limited edition 500 copies)."

FRANK, JACKSON C. The Complete Recordings: Volume 1 2LP
Repressed. First of three double LP versions, housed in a gatefold sleeve. "While Jackson C. Frank's eponymous 1965 album and other material has enjoyed numerous official and unofficial reissues, Jackson C Frank: The Complete Recordings is the first to compile his entire recording career. Released in conjunction with Jim Abbott's book, Jackson C. Frank: The Clear Hard Light of Genius. Every song has been mastered or remastered, a number of them straight from the original, brittle reel-to-reels on which they were originally laid down. Plagued by tragedy with the most haunting music to show for it, Frank's life can be heard through his music, which has been covered by the likes of Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Fairport Convention, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, John Mayer, South Korean jazz singer Nah Youn Sun, French singer Graeme Allwright, and sampled by Nas for 'Undying Love.' While never fully recognized as one of the great musicians of the '60s, Frank clearly had his fans. Volume 1 contains the original Jackson C. Frank album from 1965, containing the classic 'Blues Run The Game.' Also includes Jackson's recordings of folk standards from 1961; recordings made at his college radio station and the infamous Peaches & Crust acetate. Contains 8 songs never before released in any form."

MELVINS, THE Ozma/Bullhead 2LP
2016 repress. "This double-LP package combines two of the earliest releases from the often imitated but never duplicated Melvins. Formed in the early '80s in the scenic wonderland known as Aberdeen, WA, the band took inspiration from Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Venom, Flipper, Stooges and other floggers of high-energy, low-velocity plod. Today, more than 30 years later, they might be more popular than ever. Slow and steady wins the race. Disc one is Ozma, from 1989, which was recorded soon after their move from Washington to San Francisco, and was their first release to include the diminutive yet mighty Lorax (Lori Temple Black) on bass. In fact, the first sound one hears at the album's opening is Lori standing on her tiptoes to switch on her amp, thereby warning the listener of the onslaught to come. Distorted, down-tuned doom riffs start, stop, lurch sideways with no warning, and seem to end before they start. Buzz Osborne adds extraneous guitar static and vocal squeals. Drummer Dale Crover plays as if he's inside a barrel going over Niagara Falls; the long, slow fall allows the space between beats to grow and grow until he crashes into the water with the vessel blasting apart in an explosion of drum rolls. Disc two is Bullhead, from 1991. The songs are longer, the mood is calmer, yet more menacing. The LPs have been remastered and are back in print on vinyl for the first time in 15 years. The new gatefold packaging includes never-before-seen vintage photos, as well as the original artwork and insert, all tidied up and ready to meet Mom and Dad. Free download (with one extra track) is included."

FLAVA D Rhythm & Gash 12"
Flava D's remix of Rebound X's 2006 grime classic "Rhythm & Gash" took the clubs by storm in 2016 and amassed millions of plays across SoundCloud and YouTube, not to mention Flava D's worldwide performances -- both solo and as part of TQD, her trio with DJ Q and Royal T. That remix is backed here with "Searching" and "Whistler," both taken from Flava D's 2016 FABRICLIVE 88 CD (FABRIC 176CD). The B-side showcases her more mellow side, revisiting the style of her 2013 Butterz debut, Hold On/Home (BR 012EP).

Cellule 75 is a new label set up by Black To Comm's Marc Richter to release Black To Comm related music and a few select retrospective issues. The first release is the debut LP by Richter's somewhat arcane Jemh Circs alias, primarily working with voice samples culled from YouTube videos of modern-day pop music and the odd avant-garde curiosity, crafting seemingly simple loops and samples into minimal yet haunting songs, tunes, miniatures. Compared to his previous outings, Jemh Circles is a more digital and artificial sounding affair (even when working with the human voice) while still retaining the spectral melodic quality he is known for. Since 2003, Marc Richter has released eight full-length albums under the Black To Comm alias, including 2009's critically acclaimed Alphabet 1968 (TYPE 053CD) on Type Records and 2011's vinyl-only collaboration with the late visual artist Mike Kelley, Coldplay, Elvis & John Cage, on the En/Of label. His soundtrack for the film Earth by Singapore artist Ho Tzu Nyen came out on De Stijl in March 2012. A massive self-titled double album released in December 2014 marked his return to Type Recordings (TYPE 120LP). In November 2014, Richter's first multi-channel piece was premiered in the 47-speaker Kubus Hall at ZKM Karlsruhe. In 2015, he received a commission from INA-GRM to compose a new multi-channel piece for the acousmonium premiered in Paris in January 2016 alongside new works by François Bayle and Robert Hampson. Richter composed the soundtrack for Jan van Hasselt's 2016 film Der Weiße Elefant. Edition of 300.

DAVIDSON, MARIE Adieux Au Dancefloor LP
"Cititrax is thrilled to present a full length LP entitled Adieux Au Dancefloor by Montreal based recording artist, Marie Davidson. Marie Davidson has emerged as one of the foremost electronic artists working in contemporary pop today. As a long-time member of Essaie Pas (DFA Records), Davidson has had the opportunity to hone her many talents. She has been participating in the city's vibrant experimental community for much of her adult life. However, in 2012 she began to unveil compositions under her own name, revealing a solo artist who possessed the combined confidence and vulnerability required to write, produce and perform unaccompanied. Davidson's intimate solo work is embodied through a host of synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines which coalesce in synchronized harmony, punctuated by vocals, half sung, half spoken in both French and English. She masterfully shapes the overall mood, themes, emotion, expression and intensity of her work, which gives the final result a distinctive, cinematic quality. With Adieux Au Dancefloor, Marie makes a slight departure from her last two releases, via Holodeck (2015) and Weyrd Son (2014), by creating her first fully dancefloor oriented piece of work. Through the 45 minutes of music that comprises the album, she experiments with pop structures, defines her voice, and layers rhythms to make complex and beautiful techno tracks. She closes the album with the title track in classic Chanson style. Adieux Au Dancefloor will be pressed on 160 gram white vinyl and will feature photographs by the equally talented Corinne Schiavone."

The long awaited second volume of soundtrack works by German pop and avant-garde futurist, Felix Kubin, following 2008's Music For Theatre And Radio Play. Some of Kubin's most adventurous and far-reaching music stems from his commissioned works for films, theatre and radio plays. Freed from conventional song formats and genre stereotypes he effortlessly combines musique concrète noises, splashes of haunted virtual orchestras, Gameboy music minuets and voice collage, interspersed with tons of suspense and gloomy industrial atmospheres. Music For Film And Theatre compiles 11 tracks from Polish director Robert Florczak's "Makbet Remix" (based on William Shakespeare's Macbeth), a waltz from Schorsch Kamerun's "Des Kaisers neue Kleider" (by Hans Christian Andersen) and the complete soundtrack (including the actual sound design) for Anke Feuchtenberger's animation short, Somnambule (1998). Felix Kubin is a renowned composer and producer of radio plays based in Hamburg. In recent years he has released futuristic pop music on the legendary Zick Zack label, weirdo big band jazz with Mitch & Mitch as well as the more experimental ode to the compact cassette Chromdioxidgedächtnis (2014). Over the past 10 years he has composed several major works for modern classical ensembles: Echohaus with Ensemble Intégrales (released on Dekorder in 2010), Falling Still for Ensemble Resonanz and a boys choir, and Lunatyk for Miosz Pkala. His radio play Orphée Mécanique was awarded "Radio Play of the Year" in 2012 and "Best Audio Book 2014". Kubin's first recordings date back to his teenage years in the early 1980s (reissued in 2012 on the Minimal Wave label), followed by his electroacoustic noise duo Klangkrieg and the dada-communist Liedertafel Margot Honecker.

LIVIO & ROBY Phantom Circle 3x12"
Phantom Circle is the second album by Livio & Roby. Music is an art, a journey, a personal exploration. It doesn't start when someone presses play, nor does it stops when someone presses pause. However, with music being thrust upon everyone daily, it is nearly impossible to escape the preconceived notions of how to listen to and discover music. Everyone forgets to interrogate the melodies, to understand the harmonies, to feel the rhythm and connect with its soul. People learn to forget the value of it, simply going by what can be predicted of the musician rather than what we actually hear and feel in the sound. Cue Romanian duo Livio & Roby. Their conceptual album project Phantom Circle challenges the listener to defy the constraints of any preconceived notions. They invite the listener to focus on one thing and one thing only - the music. The audience is invited to listen to 11 original tracks, each of them co-produced with an anonymous collaborator from their "circle" of friends. And there certainly are some impressive names involved: Martin Buttrich, Guti, tINI, Hector, Andrea Oliva, Julian Perez, Cezar Merveille, Enzo Siragusa, Ryan Crosson and Premiesku. The classic Livio & Roby nuances will prevail, of course, but there will be no clear evidence about the "phantom" collaborator behind each track, apart from the music itself. By keeping the mystery on the identity of each co-producer, the duo is challenging their listeners to bypass the involuntary preconception and focus on the essential: listen and feel. Livio & Roby's emotive and mind-moving grooves have put them not only at the top of their homeland's list of nest producers but also at the forefront of the global electronic scene. The experience developed by the collaborators in this album only echoes the magnitude of Livio & Roby's talent, which boils down to their stamp of ambition and courage, consolidated in this project. Above all, this album accentuates their clear intention to enjoy music for itself and nothing else. 3x12" with printed sleeves, poster and slipcase.

LANGENBERG Central Heated House 2LP
After a considerable career releasing on numerous labels, as well as being co-founder of Essen based label Mild Pitch, Max Heesen finally drops the first album under his Langenberg alias. Heesen, (who is also one half of Ribn with Manuel Tur) delivers the smartly titled Central Heated House for Steve Bug's Dessous Recordings. The LP format suits Langenberg's hypnotic house classicism well, allowing time and space to stretch out the grooves and moods over four sides of vinyl - working both for the DJs and perfect as a soundtrack for the autumn. The LP kicks off with "Jade," a melancholic, tape-saturated introduction to Langenberg's deep tastes. "Room 210" maintains this atmosphere, with fizzing percussion and warm Detroit-esque melodies. "Groove 26" is perfectly timed for the hot summer, as lush Rhodes chords and KDJ style vocal snippets provide the heat for the open air vibes. The single from early 2016, "Shadows", features the talents of vocalist Blakkat, and caused some serious response when it hit airwaves and dancefloors alike. "Never Worry" is a heads down roller, built around a simple but perfectly executed bassline, while "Dreamliner" is trippy laidback sunshine house all the way. "I'll Be Late" and "Planitz Proposal" step back into the club, with Langenberg's signature crisp percussion, crunchy hits and analog synth wizardry on full display. "Rain & Roses" closes out the album in a similar way to how it started - wistful, thoughtful house music with soul.

"This deep into the internet era it's unusual to discover a weird-ass band who've been active and recording since the '90s without ever appearing as a blip on any known radar screen. Yet, here are Los Lichis -- a Mexican music/art collective whose recording history goes back 19 years and whose sound is as powerful and strange as any combo around. Some might suggest that Mexico is not known for its underground sonic emanations, but we've long dug artists like Loch Ness, Chac Mool, Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, Los Llamarada, and various improv-types we hear about from folks who tour down there. Some of Mexico's punk and metal bands have their moments as well. But none of them on the scale of Los Lichis, formed in Mexico City by three visual artists. There is something very special about the way non-musicians approach music as an art-form. It's usually something they have long appreciated from afar, and they often attack it with a unique brand of amateur gusto mixed with a sophisticated conceptual approach. Los Lichis (named after a stray dog, not the tropical fruit) sound like a million different things from track to track and moment to moment. I've been trying to map the 'evolution' of their sound by cross-referencing the dates the material was recorded, but there's a delightfully shocking lack of standard technical 'advancement.' This takes some doing. While they claim no specific musical influences, their sound is comparable (in parts) to Ritual All 7-70, No Neck Blues Band, Sun City Girls, Mako Sika and (especially) the French free-rock combos of the '70s -- Mahogany Brain, Red Noise, Gutura and so on. Insane free psych gush of the highest order. Dog reissues a privately released anthology, documenting Los Lichis's first decade recording. It was sold through art galleries in Mexico, and our version has a few additional notes. Prepare thyself." --Byron Coley, 2016. "Drinking In The Den Of Little Ears" features Bolita. Edition of 500 (numbered).

JORKES Thank You 12"
Munich based pair Jorkes operate with few boundaries, looking to express their emotional states through their music with scant consideration for styles or genres. Thank You sees Jorkes team up with vocalist Karol Schmejchel to deliver a slice of evocative, slo-mo nu-disco. The original mix of "Thank You" marries chugging drums and warm bass with stirring pads and the emotionally charged vocals of Schmejchel. The remix comes from Manchester's Ménage à Trois who deliver a sonically beautiful reworking built around heart-wrenching keys and heavily reverbed guitar parts. An exclusive instrumental of the Ménage à Trois track is included.

Parisian producer Jonathan Fitoussi presents his debut album for Further Records, Imaginary Lines. Fitoussi finds inspiration from Rebecca Solnit's Storming The Gates Of Paradise: Landscapes For Politics (2007) and the concept of Harmony Of The Spheres to create six ravishing interstellar evocations. Referring to Solnit's work, Fitoussi states, "This idea that the constellations are an imaginary representation that man drew in the sky to serve as landmarks in space and on Earth is greatly appealing to me, and works very well with the story behind this album, on which each song title bears the name of a constellation," Fitoussi says. "With Imaginary Lines, I wanted to work with this idea as its core; on one hand geometrical and linear, like the shape of the constellations, characterized by the use of repetitive sequences, and on the other hand, through sections of improvised organ to evoke the more spiritual dimension." Imaginary Lines sounds like it was made with acute academic rigor yet it is also lavishly beautiful and sensuous. "I like having a mixture of a solid base to work from," Fitoussi says, "which is characterized here by a repetitive sequence, that leaves room for improvisation as well. This is something that recurs often in my work: creating a stable structure which then allows me to create spaces within it." To manifest Imaginary Lines, Fitoussi mainly employed an EMS Synthi AKS synthesizer and a Yamaha YC45D organ, which he processed through tape echo with two tape recorders. In addition, Fitoussi says, "many of the sounds were also fed back into a large metallic resonator (similar to the Ondes Martenot), which produced beautiful reverberations." "Aquarius" starts the album with its wind-chime and vibraphone-like pulsations reminiscent of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells (1973). "Triangulum" offers a Philip Glass-like repetition of lustrous synth chords. Subtle modulations and gradual intensification foster the sense that something momentous is about to happen - which it does with "Orion", whose brisk percolation and glassy tones recall Harmonia's Deluxe (1975), but shot into deep space. "Oiseau de Paradis" and "Andromede" evoke the feeling of effortless ascension through smooth, celestial oscillations, with the latter coming off as slightly more hectic, generating the illusion of pursuit. "Cassiopee" brings the album to a close with a more downcast, contemplative mood, with swirling tones and cyclical motif. Mastered by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering. 180 gram vinyl & reverse board jacket with insert.

HURLEY, MICHAEL Ancestral Swamp LP
2016 repress. "Ancestral Swamp is the 20th full-length album by legendary rambler, cartoonist, 'outsider' folk singer, and guitarist Michael Hurley. It arrives just in the nick of time for the rabid Snockophile. A batch of new vittles and encores of some of his classic tunes, Ancestral Swamp bubbles with laid-back ease and tre-molodic goodness. Most songs have the simplest of arrangements: Hurley singing solo, accompanied by his guitar, Wurlizter organ, or fiddle. Tara Jane O'Neil helps lend a nice touch to 'El Dorado,' and Snock calls upon frequent past accomplices Dave Reisch and Louie Longmeyer for their graceful touch on sleepy winners like 'New River Blues' and 'Gamblin' Charlie.' As with all Hurley's albums, once one sets the needle down, one is put in a certain peace and place. His voice and songs are unique, shuffling with characters and visions clear and wild. With Ancestral Swamp, it seems Snock has left his front door open a bit wider than usual. If you lean in close, you can inhale a little of the vapor rising off the water, and enjoy a tale or two."

2016 repress, originally released 2009; 2LP version. "Marks a significant shift in emphasis in this acclaimed musician's work, reflecting a renewed interest in jazz and acoustic performance -- Tummaa is far more organic and live-sounding than anything he's done before. Ripatti is a genuine musical maverick. Tummaa marks a return to Ripatti's first love of performing as a percussionist. The album essentially features a live trio -- Ripatti, Argentine musician Lucio Capece on clarinet and saxophone, and acclaimed Scottish soundtrack composer and arranger Craig Armstrong on piano and Rhodes. Ripatti set the tone, recording his drum parts and then inviting Capece to his studio to improvise alongside the drums. Armstrong offered recordings of pure solo piano playing he had made for the project. From these two sound sources, Ripatti began composing and arranging, and wrote a whole suite of music. The results are jaw-dropping."

DAVIS, BETTY The Columbia Years 1968-1969 LP
Repressed. LP version. "One can hardly imagine Prince, Erykah Badu, or Outkast without the influence of Betty Davis. Her style of raw and revelatory punk-funk defies any notions that women can't be visionaries in the worlds of rock and pop. In recent years, rappers from Ice Cube to Talib Kweli have rhymed over her intensely strong but sensual music. Betty penned the song 'Uptown' for The Chambers Brothers and wrote the tunes that got The Commodores signed to Motown. The Detroit label soon came calling, pitching a Motown songwriting deal, which Betty turned down. Motown wanted to own everything. Heading to the UK, Marc Bolan of T. Rex urged the creative dynamo to start writing for herself. A common thread throughout Betty's career would be her unbending DIY ethic, which made her quickly turn down anyone who didn't fit with the vision. She would eventually say no to Eric Clapton as her album producer, seeing him as too banal. In 1968, she married Miles Davis and quickly influenced him on the magic of psychedelic rock along with introducing him to Jimi Hendrix -- personally inspiring the classic album, Bitches Brew. Miles and Betty fans have long debated the truth of a near mythological session recorded in Studios B and E at Columbia's 52nd Street Studios on May 14th and 20th, 1969. The landmark session was produced by Miles and Teo Macero and featured Betty on vocals, accompanied by Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, guitarist John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock on keys, and Dylan/Miles session bassist Harvey Brooks. Other players included bassist Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys), saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and organist Larry Young. Now, Light In The Attic, with full support from Betty herself, presents these recordings to the public for the very first time. These historic sessions -- never heard, never bootlegged -- predate Miles' revolutionary album, Bitches Brew, and are the true birth of Miles' jazz-rock explorations, along with the roots for Betty's groundbreaking funk that came years later, starting with her self-titled debut in 1973. While, ultimately, these recordings would go unreleased for nearly half a century, they would greatly shape each of their careers. The vibe is intrinsically unique, fresh, and futuristic -- jazz heavyweights playing psychedelia, rock, and jazz-fusion long before the term became commonplace. The songs include Betty originals and covers of classics by Creedence and Cream. The concepts explored on these previously unheard sessions fueled concepts that wouldn't be fully realized until years later with Miles' seminal On The Corner. Additionally, included here is the first time rerelease of a 1968 Columbia single, recorded in October 1968 at Columbia Studios in Los Angeles. The session was produced by Jerry Fuller and featured South African maverick Hugh Masekela on trumpet and arrangements, plus members of jazz-funk pioneers The Crusaders -- including trombonist Wayne Henderson and pianist Joe Sample. All tracks previously unreleased (except track B5/8). Production by Miles Davis & Teo Macero with performances from Hugh Masekela, Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience), John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Harvey Brooks, Wayne Shorter, Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys), Larry Young, and members of The Jazz Crusaders. Remastered from the original analog master tapes.New interviews, rare photos, and unseen historical documents from the Teo Macero archive."

"If Lucio Battisti was Italy's answer to France's Serge Gainsbourg, then Amore E Non Amore is his own Histoire De Melody Nelson, a concept album that's widely regarded as a formative artistic achievement (if far from the most hit packed album) of his respective career. Both albums were released in 1971. For Battisti, the concept came from that dichotomous title: there's a rocky 'non-love' side of the album, which has songs about obsession and adultery, and a 'love' side of dreamy, prog-rock instrumentals. The album saw Battisti working with lyricist Giulio 'Mogol' Rapetti, with whom he'd collaborated closely since 1965, enjoying huge hits with the likes of '29 Settembre' and 'Sognando La California,' an Italian version of 'California Dreamin''. It was Mogol who first convinced Battisti to perform his own songs, and who conceived the idea for this record. Mogol supplied the inspiration, the title and the titles of its songs, many of them evocative sentences that flesh out the visual picture where lyrics are absent. Take, for example, 'Davanti Ad Un Distributore Automatico Di Fiori Dell'aereoporto Di Bruxelles Anch'io Chiuso In Una Bolla Di Vetro,' which translates as 'In Front Of A Flowers Vending Machine In Brussels Airport I Am Closed In A Glass Bowl Too'. In an incredibly rare English language interview accompanying this lavish reissue, Mogol speaks of the album's conception. 'I had an understanding that Lucio was a great musician, a great composer,' he says, 'And in my opinion, I felt bad that he was limited exclusively to a pop genre. I wanted him to become a musician; I was really hoping, I had said to him, that he would become an orchestra conductor, a star who would make his own songs, and so I tried to convince him to make songs without lyrics.' Amore E Non Amore was to be a watershed moment for Battisti. His label considered it to be too experimental and advanced for the Italian audience, and refused to release it. They were wrong: it instead set Battisti on a liberating course of artistic freedom and widespread success, and gifted the world one of Italy's greatest musical exports. Officially licensed reissue. Remastered from the original tapes. Liner notes interviewing lyricist Giulio 'Mogol' Rapetti. Deluxe gatefold 'tip-on' Stoughton jacket. 180-gram vinyl."

SOARES, ELZA The Woman At The End Of The World (A Mulher Do Fim Do Mundo) LP
Repressed; LP version. Septuagenarian Brazilian music icon Elza Soares teams up with the cream of São Paulo's avant-garde musicians for an album of apocalyptic, experimental samba sujo ("dirty samba") that tackles the burning issues of 21st century Brazil: racism, domestic violence, sex, drug addiction and global warming. The Woman at the end of the World is Elza's 34th studio album and her first to feature previously unrecorded material, exclusively composed for her. Voted "Best Album of 2015" by Rolling Stone Brazil after its domestic release, it will now be released worldwide by UK based label Mais Um Discos. Over a sprawl of distorted guitars, squalling horn, taught strings and electronic shards, samba is savaged by rock 'n' roll, free jazz, noise and other experimental music forms. A true legend of Brazilian music Elza has an incredible musical oeuvre that stretches back over seven decades mixing samba with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and electronica, whilst her life story is a rags-to-riches-to-rags rollercoaster of triumphs and tragedies that has made her a voice for Brazil's repressed female, black, gay and working class populations. Her music career began in the late 1950s as she sung in clubs and hotels, sometimes being forced to perform off stage because of her skin color. The '60s was a career defining period with a run of classic albums for Odeon. After decades of hardships and artistic exploration, her latest muse is São Paulo's hyped samba sujo scene. Soares presents an album that walks a tightrope between post-rock and post-samba. "I knew this album would be a bold, modern sound" she says. "These songs are tense they do not allow you to relax". The album opens with "Coracão do Mar (Heart of the Sea)" with Elza reciting a poem from celebrated Brazilian modernist poet Oswald de Andrade. Title track "Mulher do fim do Mundo" uses carnival as a metaphor for the apocalypse and according to composer Romulo Froes "translates Elza's strength and indestructability". With The Woman at the End of the World, Elza forces the joy and sadness that personifies samba to confront the dirty truths of modern day São Paulo.

"Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalog of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. Blind Owl served as Canned Heat's guitarist and would chip in a song here and there as a front man. A couple of those songs became huge hits in the 60's - 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'. Blind Owl's songs for Canned Heat stood in stark contrast to the bands blustery blues rock - his was a gentle and nuanced voice and the themes of his song were all about personal heartbreak, grasping for cosmic understanding, and ecological justice. Here we have an LP of Blind Owl's songs from Canned Heat's records - left to sit alone and take you somewhere unexpected. Blind Owl's personal vision quest can be heard throughout these songs. 'Poor Moon' tells the tale of Alan's heartbreak as he watches the moon being misguidedly bombed by man, 'My Time Ain't Long' confronts death, 'Parthenogen In 3 Blind Owls' and 'Parthenogen Childs End' take you to the psychedelic limits, and oh yes, we have the hit tunes on here too. Co-release with Sutro Park records. A true psychedelic masterpiece!"

"Camberwell, in South London, pops up infrequently in pop culture. Perhaps you know it from the Camberwell Carrot, the heroically sized joint smoked in cult movie Withnail & I, or perhaps -- if you're attuned to experimental music -- you know of Camberwell Now. The group formed from the ashes of This Heat, the art-noise group whose catalog was reissued on Modern Classics Recordings in early 2016. Not so much a supersession as a continuation of that group, Camberwell Now featured This Heat's vocalist / drummer Charles Hayward, who assembled an unusual line-up comprising Stephen Rickard, a former BBC sound engineer, on field recordings and tape manipulation and Trefor Goronwy on bass, vocals and ukulele. 'We had a very specific set of skills,' says Hayward, in new liner notes compiled for this long overdue reissue, 'and it wasn't immediately clear to us how best to bring them together so that we could play live.' Arriving in 1986, The Ghost Trade, the group's sole full-length LP, was what existed at the confluence of live performance and studio experimentation. Similar to This Heat's process, the group spent two years in Cold Storage experimenting with the studio and assembling finished songs from vast quantities of tapes. Their two EPs, re-issued as The EP Collection, were borne of a similar process but each with unique yields. The tracks that eventually formed The Ghost Trade were songs forged in the bleak beauty of Thatcher's London. 'To me, the sounds invoked humanity trapped behind and inside a world constructed of glass, steel, and concrete, frozen inside the textures like prisoners of the twilight zone, humanity haunting a landscape it had made for itself,' says Hayward. First vinyl re-issue, includes bonus track 'Daddy Needs A Throne'. Official re-issue in collaboration with original members. 24 bit/96 kHz re-master from original analog tapes. Restored art, expanded to a gatefold tip-on jacket. Includes download card, 8 page booklet with track notes by the artists, lyrics and archival photos."

ISAN Glass Bird Movement LP + 7"
LP version. Includes 7 inch and download code. On their first album since 2010's Glow In The Dark Safari Set (MORR 099CD/LP), ISAN once more weave together electronic soundscapes, delicate rhythms and the occasional odd sound into a pulsating, ever-morphing whole. Glass Bird Movement is Antony Ryan and Robin Saville's eighth studio album since starting the project in the late '90s. Exchanging ideas between England and Denmark, ISAN have crafted an album which is reminiscent of heyday Boards Of Canada productions, the friendlier ventures of Aphex Twin or the most focused moments of Ulrich Schnauss, if you will. However, Glass Bird Movement (as subtle and impressive as their back catalog is) displays a strong signature. ISAN constantly move forwards without leaving their respective studios. And why should they - it's warm and dry in there and the kettle is always boiling. The title Glass Bird Movement is the product of a free associative process which reflects ISAN's creative methods and frames the eleven songs in a way that triggers the imagination. Communicating less about their music than rather with their music, Ryan and Saville together immerse themselves in complex structures without shutting out their audience. Instead, the friendly bouncing grooves of songs like "Napier Deltic", the washed out harmonies of the aptly titled "Risefallsleep" or the circular rhythms of the album's opener, "Cuckoo Down", have dream-like, inviting qualities to them. ISAN are particular about incorporating the element of chance, a sort of second-hand human touch, in their music. If it's a cheap keyboard that is only good for one note in one song alone or a tape loop cut by hand, anything can find its way into an ISAN song. Even though they take most of their inspiration from the machines they work with, they do not fetishize their gear - but play with it. Glass Bird Movement relies just as heavily on all those sonic idiosyncrasies as it does on the sophisticated rhythms and throbbing basses that form its foundation. One might call the music that ISAN make Intelligence Dance Music. However, be aware that there has reportedly only ever been one person seen dancing to it. Glass Bird Movement is likely best enjoyed where it is warm and dry, while the kettle is boiling. Artwork by Morr Music's in-house designer, Julia Guther.

YVES TUMOR Serpent Music LP
The enigmatic Tennessee-raised, Turin-based Yves Tumor presents Serpent Music, a poignant album recorded between Miami, Leipzig, Los Angeles and Berlin over three years. Evolved from a diverse and prolific creative history under an expansive plethora of covert aliases via various forward-thinking labels, Yves Tumor emerges as his most personal and matured incarnation to date. With involvement across various artistic outlets expanding to fashion such as a visceral live performance for LA's Hood By Air earlier this year, the global artist has built a distinctly bold personal aesthetic both musically and visually as a performer. Painstakingly written from pieces developed upon since 2013, Serpent Music was initially composed as a soul record - based around delicate and emotive songwriting in various forms. It was a highly difficult project to undertake on both a creative and personal level, weaving thematic links through paranoia, social anxiety, and missing loved ones. "The songs come from a much more emotional and very vulnerable place... They're very close to me and I've been cautious of how I would eventually present them to the world." he explains. The album spans sonically diverse and richly-textured pieces, formed from live, organic instruments, samples and various field recordings. Dreamlike lo-fi psychedelia sits alongside broken electronic experimentations, ambient compositions between abrasive noise, offering insight into a haunting otherworld. From melodic choral vocals and soaring synths, to screeching guitar riffs, dramatic spoken word samples and live drumming, Serpent Music evidently moves through a strange and intriguing personal journey. "Broke In" features Oxhy. The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M. Features photography by Daniel Sannwald.

" 'In an everlasting process that continuously repositions and reevaluates infinity as a consciously unachievable but ultimately rewarding goal since the early '90s, David Maranha's music has been riding that arc with ferocity and aplomb. A unique vision that has been translating the eternal in a sprawling language through countless performances, approaches and records like Marches of the New World and the Roaratorio released classic Antarctica. Always the unsettled mind, Maranha conveys his spiraling vision towards its core with this new ensemble. Comprised of Diana Combo on drums, Filipe Felizardo on electric guitar and David himself on organ and violin, they are a speculative tour de force around sensory principles of movement, stillness and reaction. Long drawn-out semi-riffs feedback along the drifting textures of the violin and the organ like rock's ultimate coda stretched into nowhere. Drums plodding in restraint, sustaining the drone-like vortex of electricity without ever reaching any sort of conclusion in four pieces that inhabit their own universe continually. As it should.' -- Bruno Silva."

GOAT World Music LP
2016 repress! LP version with die-cut front cover. Rocket Recordings presents the debut album World Music by the band Goat. For those who are unaware, Goat is a collective of musicians who hail from a small and very remote village called Korpilombolo in deepest, darkest Sweden. Legend has it that for centuries, the inhabitants of the village of Korpilombolo were dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo. This strange and seemingly unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a travelling witch doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to Korpilombolo by following a cipher hidden within their most sacred of ancient scriptures. The reason it led them there is unknown, but their Voodoo influence quickly took hold over the whole village and so they made it their home -- there, they were able to practice their craft unnoticed and unbothered for several centuries. This was until their non-Christian ways were discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders, the survivors cursing the village over their shoulders as they fled. To this day, the now picturesque village of Korpilombolo is still haunted by this Voodoo curse; the power of the curse can be felt throughout the grooves of this Goat record. The nine track album follows the underground success of the now sought-after 7" Goatman, which is also included in this selection. The band takes in many influences, from the Afro-groove that is central to the album, through to head-nodding psych, post-punk, Turkish rock, Kraut repetition and astral folk. "Over insistent rhythms that suggest Spacemen 3 and, at least in spirit, the conjuring drones of Pandit Pran Nath and La Monte Young, Goat weave an ecumenical history of rock'n'roll. They intercept signals from Led Zeppelin and Funkadelic, Jefferson Starship and Fela Kuti, the Congos and the Rolling Stones, bending them into a resiliently consistent album." --Pitchfork (8.1)

Flowers Must Die have shared stages with Om, White Hills, Konono N°1, Master Musicians Of Bukkake, Hills, et al.

XXX is a four LP collection featuring Scorch Trio's recordings. It includes Scorch Trio (2002), Luggumt (2004), Brolt (2008) and a radio session entitled Oval. In Norway, Scorch Trio was greeted with 6/6 reviews in the two biggest newspapers and The Wire said "the scope of their improvisational ideas is breathtaking", in spirit comparing the album to The Mahavishnu Orchestra's The Inner Mounting Flame (1971). Four years after Luggumt, Brolt was to become the final album with Paal Nilssen-Love behind the drums. Following in the tradition of the previous albums, this is a masterful example of passionate improvisation and breathtaking interplay. The joker in this collection is Oval, a radio session done for Yle, the Finnish broadcasting company, two years before their debut album was released. Why this recording has been left on a shelf for so long is anyone's guess because this is quite a remarkable recording, showing off a new group brimming with energy and new ideas. Paal Nilssen-Love was only 25 at the time, but he and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten already had a reputation as one of the most energetic and creative rhythm sections in Scandinavia. Here the Finnish guitar phenomenon Raoul Björkenheim had found the perfect partners for his new group. Oval is previously unreleased in any form. Scorch Trio has only been available on CD until now, while both Luggumt and Brolt have long been out of print on vinyl.

MASTER MUSICIANS OF JAJOUKA The Music And Ritual Of Jajouka, Morocco LP
2016 repress. Full title: The Primal Energy that is the Music and Ritual of Jajouka, Morocco. "In 1972, Joel Rubiner made his way to Jajouka to do fresh recordings of the group. He knew that there was an audience for the unfiltered sounds of the Master Musicians of Jajouka and spends the summer with a tape machine and the musicians. Jams formed into songs, Rubiner had tapes that music freaks would die for. Hypnotic, pulsing, energetic, and discordant - the Rubiner recordings needed to be released. In 1974, Adelphi Records took a chance on the Master Musicians and released The Primal Energy that is the Music and Ritual of Jajouka, Morocco. When the album was released on CD, it netted the All Music Guide's Best of Genre award. Out of print on vinyl for over twenty years, The Primal Energy... makes a return on Sol Re Sol Records (a spin-off of avant-rock label S.S. Records). Sol Re Sol's repressing of this classic album contains the music of the original (remastered by John Golden), plus the original liner notes by Robert Palmer. The packaging however is something new - housed in a gatefold sleeve, it includes a new cover with little seen Rubiner photographs from the time the album was recorded. The recordings and photographs have been fully licensed. The group's publishing royalties have been paid. No one is getting exploited in order to return this wonderful music to vinyl. Fans of Sublime Frequencies, Mississippi Records, the Nonesuch Explorer series, Ocora Records, and the Ethnic Folkways series will dig this release."

2016 repress. "Brazil in the early 1970s had one of the vibrant music scenes in the world. Tropicalia was going strong, a challenge to both the music establishment and the state. Música Popular Brasileira (or MPB) was firmly established. Up in the northeastern corner of Brazil, centered in Recife, was another exciting strain of Brazilian culture called Udigrudi. Lula Cortes, Ze Ramalho and Satwa were a few artists from the movement; but none is more celebrated than Alceu Valença. Valença grew up with the expectation of being a lawyer. He did go to law school, but he ditched the legal life for his first passion: music. In 1970, he played with Ave Sangria. Soon after he made a couple records with his friend, the artist and musician Geraldo Azevedo. However, his first solo album Molhado De Suor is what truly caused people to take notice. While other Udigrudi musicians melded traditional northeastern Brazilian music and rhythms with folk rock and psychedelia, it was Molhado De Suor that set the mark high. Aided by Lola Cortes and Geraldo Azevedo, Valença's rich vocals combine with driving guitar work, moody arrangements and unusual trips. Molhado De Suor is a record Slipcue calls innovative, insistent and vital. It is considered a Brazilian classic, often landing in Brazilian 'Best of All Time' lists and sought after by collectors. Molhado De Suor was originally released in 1974 on the Som Livre label and has never been reissued. Sol Re Sol is proud to bring this important album back in print."

2016 repress. "Sol Re Sol Records is happy to announce the reissue of Sidney Miller's lost classic Linguas De Fogo. Originally released in 1974, Miller's third album is one of the best Brazilian records of its time. A seamless mesh of Brazilian pop, psychedelia and Bossa Nova, Linguas De Fogo could almost be mistaken as Tropicalia -- if Miller hadn't distanced himself from the genre. Miller first received notice in 1967 when Nara Leão recorded five of his songs (along with four by Chico Buraque, to whom Miller was compared). This was soon followed by his own album and recordings of his songs by Quarteto em Cy. He then contributed music to film (many for his friend director Paulo Thiago) and plays (one of which he collaborated on with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil). While his songs were recorded by Veloso, Leão, Quarteto em Cy, MPB-4, Alaíde Costa and Gal Costa, Miller released only two more albums in his lifetime, Linguas De Fogo being his last. That he did not receive the acclaim his peers did was not due to his lack of talent. Miller was incredibly shy; he loathed to take the stage and masked his shyness with drugs and drink. He passed away young, at age 30 in 1980. How he died is disputed. Though Linguas De Fogo is highly regarded among diehard Brazilian music fanatics and the original vinyl pressing is much coveted, Miller has been a secret pleasure yet undiscovered by the general public. However, recently he has been rediscovered by a new crop of Brazilian artists, and hopefully this release will further push interest in his music."

CAGE, JOHN Early Electronic and Tape Music LP
2016 repress; LP version. Black vinyl repress. "I believe the use of noise to make music will continue and increase until we reach a music produced through the aid of electrical instruments which will make available for musical purposes any and all sounds that can be heard." --John Cage, 1937."Although John Cage occasionally worked in large, sophisticated studios -- for example, when he composed 'Fontana Mix' in 1958 -- his approach to electronic and tape music was often uncomplicated, makeshift, and pragmatic, employing simple tabletop devices: tape machines, phonograph cartridges, contact microphones, record players, portable radios, etc. He developed a soundworld that was utterly new, radical and demanding. It heralded the age of the loudspeaker, mass communication and Marshall McLuhan's 'global village.' The hiss, crackle and hum of electronic circuits, and the disembodied sounds, snatched by radio from the ether, spoke of the 20th century. Langham Research Centre works within the tradition firmly established by Cage, using resources that would have been available to him. For the realization of Cartridge Music, moving iron phonograph pickups were sourced and restored. These have a knurled screw designed to hold a steel phonograph needle and, in the piece, other objects are inserted and amplified: pieces of wire, toothpicks, paperclips, etc. The realization of 'Fontana Mix' includes the individual mono tracks from Cage's original tapes created in 1958. These are played using open-reel tape machines. These practices ensure we work within the limitations that Cage experienced and enable us to get close to the soundworld he inhabited." --Robert Worby, Langham Research Centre

SCIENTIST Introducing Scientist - The Best Dub Album in the World LP
2016 repress. "Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist, has been a pioneering figure in the world of dub for nearly 40 years. His early love of electronics proved fruitful when (still a teenager) he was hired at King Tubby's studio in Kingston. Brown quickly ascended the ranks and became heir to Tubby's throne, producing imaginative and technically impressive mixes that solidified his forward-looking nickname. Introducing Scientist - The Best Dub Album in the World, his 1980 debut LP, lives up to its boastful title. Recorded with Sly & Robbie at Channel One Studio and mixed at King Tubby's, the album features hypnotic basslines, reverb- drenched keyboards, and fluid, start-stop rhythms. Opening track 'Steppers,' with its well-balanced phrasing and organic contours, shows Scientist's mastery of the studio- as-instrument concept. On 'Scientific,' the effectsladen guitars are stretched to their outer limit to create magnificent, spaced-out textures and muted tension. Introducing Scientist displays the talents of a man obsessed with every element of production, drawing out the very best of the dub form."

CRAMPS, THE Smell Of Female LP
2016 repress. "Released in 1983 after a lengthy court battle with IRS Records, Smell Of Female originally contained just the first six songs. These, plus out-of-control ad-lib freakouts 'Beautiful Gardens' and 'She Said' (previously omitted due to legal restrictions) were recorded live at New York?s famous Peppermint Lounge. There is nothing like the sound of The Cramps, and this set distills that cross of swamp water, moonshine and nitro down to a dangerous and unstable musical substance, captured live like a crazed animal. They rocked like few others could. Additional bonus track 'Surfin? Dead' was recorded at A&M Studios in Hollywood and originally appeared on the 1984 soundtrack for Return Of The Living Dead -- when asked to write a 'pop song' for the movie, The Cramps (by then a three-piece) threw into their cauldron a mix of Link Wray, Jan & Dean, Davie Allen, The Righteous Brothers, bongos, Phil Spector and eye of newt."

"Jungle Nausea formed at the dawn of the '80s when some members of SMEGMA recruited other Portland new-music enthusiasts (including poster artist Mike King) for a project that would combine punk, new wave, American roots music, and a sense of humor. They weren't much like the other local bands of the era, but that wasn't what they were going for. Instead they found their own twisted path, playing the heck out of their mix of conventional and homemade instruments and getting unintended sounds out of their rhythm machine. POISON GIRLS, THE Where's the Pleasure LP
"First released in September 1982 on their own Xntrix Records label, Where's The Pleasure was described by Johnny Waller in Sounds as 'The last great punk record'. The record came out of a period of change for Poison Girls. A new house, a new bass player, a completely new set, and, with it, a determination to challenge the expectations of their audience. What resulted is an outstanding collection of songs. Vi Subversa's lyrics seamlessly make the personal political, and the political relevant to everyday life. The music bristles with inventiveness. What we hear is a band at the top of their game, exploring different styles and enjoying themselves in the process. It is Poison Girls flexing their musical muscles, rediscovering their roots, and connecting with the true spirit of punk, which is of course, unbridled, messy and adventurous creativity. Where's The Pleasure is a truly wonderful achievement by a truly unique band."
