BUILT TO SPILL Ancient Melodies Of The Future LP
"Formed in 1992 in Boise, Idaho by guitarist and vocalist Doug Martsch, Built to Spill has since evolved radically, shed members, linked eras, and all the while endured as one of the most tuneful and rewarding acts of the lauded Northwest indie-rock tradition. The group signed to Warner Brothers in 1995, but Martsch was wise enough to retain control over production, and by 1999 he'd helmed the group towards commercial and critical success with Keep It Like A Secret. It was a touchstone album, and yet 2001's Ancient Melodies Of The Future bested that career highlight with considerable grace and craft. Marsch's studio proficiency is immediately evident in the alternately delicate and devastating mix of mellotron, keyboard, and inventive guitar overdubs that characterize Ancient Melodies Of The Future's sonic palette. Melodic curlicues distinguish the minor hit 'Strange,' while woozy grooves propel the mid-tempo ballad 'Trimmed and Burning' through an incendiary solo section. As the album title suggests, Ancient Melodies Of The Future stands outside of history in a realm of its own."

VA African Scream Contest: Raw & Psychedelic Afro ...Sounds From Benin & Togo 70s 2LP
2016 repress. Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve and printed inner sleeves which replicate all of the liner notes from the CD version booklet. Same 14 tracks as the CD. The mission of Analog Africa is clear: searching in dusty warehouses for forgotten music to keep it alive. All tracks have been officially licensed, usually from the artists who label-head Samy Ben Redjeb also met with for detailed research. Like most modern music in French-speaking West African countries, the music of Benin and Togo was influenced by a few main musical currents: Cuban, Congolese and local traditional music, as well as Chanson Française. Additionally, the geographical location of Benin and Togo -- sandwiched between Ghana and Nigeria -- exposed Beninese and Togolese musicians to highlife music. The cultural and spiritual riches of traditional Beninese music had an immense impact on the sound of Benin's modern music. Benin is the birth place of Vodun (or, as it is known in the West, Voodoo), and some of the rhythms used during traditional rituals -- sakpata, sato, agbadja, tchenkoumé and many others -- were fused to soul and Latin music as early as the mid-'60s and later to funk. That fusion is the essence of this compilation. There are countless stories to be discovered in the extremely well-researched booklet and the music is truly mind-blowing. So delve into the forgotten raw and psychedelic Afro sounds from '70s Benin and Togo and experience the African Scream Contest.

ORCHESTRE POLY-RYTHMO DE COTONOU Volume One -- The Vodoun Effect 2LP
...Funk & Sato From Benin's Obscure Labels 1972-1975. 2016 repress. Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves. Following the highly-acclaimed African Scream Contest: Raw & Psychedelic Afro Sounds from Benin & Togo '70s -- which featured several tracks by Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, including the ground-breaking "Gbeti Madjro" -- this new Analog Africa collection now focuses entirely on Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou is arguably West Africa's best-kept secret. Their output, both in quantity and quality, was astonishing. During several trips to Benin, label-head Samy Ben Redjeb managed to collect roughly 500 songs which Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou had recorded between 1970 and 1983. With so much material to choose from, he decided to split it into Volume 1 and 2. While Volume 2 will be material the band recorded under an exclusive contract with the label Albarika Store, the band also "secretly" recorded with an array of smaller labels based around Cotonou, Benin's largest city, and the capital city of Porto Novo. It is those tracks (all officially licensed) that are presented here on Volume One. The producers of those labels were genuine music enthusiasts, some of them ran these labels as a part-time occupation, with very limited budgets. They couldn't afford high-quality recordings -- all they had to work with was a Nagra (a Swiss made reel-to-reel recorder) and a sound engineer -- courtesy of the national radio station. These sessions were recorded in private homes using just one or two microphones. The cultural and spiritual riches of traditional Beninese music had an immense impact on the sound of Benin's modern music. Benin is the birthplace of Vodun (also Vodoun, or, as it is known in the West, Voodoo), a religion which involves the worship of some 250 sacred divinities. The rituals used to pay tributes to those divinities are always backed by music. The majority of the complex poly-rhythms of the Vodun are still more or less secret and difficult to decipher, even for an accomplished musician. Two Vodun rhythms dominate the music of Orchestre Poly-Rythmo: Sato, an amazing, energetic rhythm performed using an immense vertical drum, and Sakpata, a rhythm dedicated to the divinity who protects people from smallpox. Both rhythms are represented here mixed in with funk, soul, crazy organ sounds and psychedelic guitar riffs.

ORCHESTRE POLY-RYTHMO DE COTONOU Volume Two -- Echos Hypnotiques 2LP
2016 repress. Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve with a poster and printed inner sleeves which replicate all of the liner notes from the CD version booklet. Subtitled: From The Vaults Of Albarika Store 1969-1979. Four years in the making, Analog Africa finally presents the highly-anticipated second volume of music from Africa's funkiest band, the mythical Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou. Volume One (The Vodoun Effect: Funk & Sato from Benin's Obscure Labels, 1973-1975), released by Analog Africa at the end of 2008, was a collection of amazing lo-fi recordings produced for various labels around Benin. Volume Two showcases superbly recorded tracks, courtesy of the EMI studios in Lagos, Nigeria, one of the best studios in the region. All tracks here were recorded for the mighty Albarika Store label and its enigmatic producer, Adissa Seidou. The idea for this compilation was born five years ago when Samy Ben Redjeb, Analog Africa's founder and compiler, first heard the addictive funk track "Malin Kpon O" (included here), which was originally released in 1975 on Albarika Store. That discovery triggered the compiler's curiosity and what followed was a long journey through the musical history of Benin and the history of its most important ambassador, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou. The result: approximately 100 pictures, 120 master tapes, 20 hours of interviews and a few hundred Orchestre Poly-Rythmo vinyl records -- 500 songs in total -- some of which previously unreleased. Almost half of those tracks were recorded for Benin's number one label -- Albarika Store. During the period presented here -- 1969 to 1979 -- the mighty Orchestre was without any doubt one of Africa's most innovative groups. Capable of playing any style of music, the band moved from traditional Vodoun rhythms to funk, sato, Latin, sakpata, psychedelia and Afro-Beat seamlessly and quickly became the powerhouse of Benin's music scene. Some of the planet's most exciting rhythms are related to the complex Vodoun religion born in Benin. Those rhythms, supported by chants and dances, have been transmitted from generation to generation and are still being performed to this day, a few hundred years after they were created. The composers and arrangers of Orchestre Poly-Rythmo understood that they were surrounded by a gold mine of inspirational sounds which, if modernized and mixed in with whatever was in fashion at that particular moment, could have a strong impact on the urban population. Those astonishing combinations can be heard here, all mixed into a heavy hypnotic sound -- Les Echos Hypnotiques.

VA Angola Soundtrack 2LP
2016 repress. Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve and printed inner sleeves which replicate all of the liner notes from the CD version booklet. Subtitled: The Unique Sound Of Luanda 1968-1976. The nascent Angolan music scene was set on fire by a small group of intrepid singers, backed by an array of super-tight bands and led by extraordinary guitarists who revolutionized the musical and the political panorama of the '60s and '70s. A powerful confluence of traditional rhythms from Luanda's islands, psychedelic guitar sounds imported from neighboring Congo, Latin grooves, old school Caribbean merengue and the hard beat of the Angolan carnival bands conspired to create the modern music of Angola. These sounds were immortalized by two excellent recording companies -- Fadiang (Fábrica De Discos Angolano) and Valentim de Carvalho. The great electric bands of Angola were a well-kept secret until the late '90s when France-based music label Buda Musique released a short-lived series of Angolan music compiled by Ariel de Bigault. Inspired and taken aback, the releases proved to be a pivotal juncture for Analog Africa's founder Samy Ben Redjeb. From the nine Analog Africa releases thus far, Angola Soundtrack has been the most difficult to create. The travel visa was in itself a struggle and logistically and financially, Luanda is a nightmare. After two unsuccessful years, Samy eventually found shelter at a home in Prenda, a musseque (township) outside of the capital. With the support of Zé Keno, the legendary guitarist of Jovens Do Prenda, he managed to meet most of the composers of the tunes presented here. The anecdotes they provided are numerous. Boto Trindade, guitarist of Os Bongos, abandoned his dream of becoming a football player to support his brother's family by earning money as a musician. A very young Zé Keno went to see his favorite guitarist Marito performing with Os Kiezos and consequently built a three-stringed guitar only to become one of the most sought-after guitarists in the country a mere few years later. Angolan music is truly unique and stands on its own as a sound that can only be found in that part of the world. Rhythms such rebita, kazucuta, semba and merengue, all of which are presented in this latest compilation, might be unfamiliar, but they are superbly melodic, highly danceable, hypnotic, raw and quintessentially beautiful and totally addictive.

VA Diablos del Ritmo - The Colombian Melting Pot 1960-1983 Part 2 2LP
2016 repress. Gatefold double LP version, part 2. There are a number of theories as to how, in the mid-20th century, African music made its way to Colombia's vibrant port city of Barranquilla, today's mecca of Caribbean tropical music. Some maintain that a man named "Boquebaba" remains responsible. Others claim that seafaring traders and merchants imported the first sizeable amount of African vinyl. An absolute certainty is that in March 2007 Analog Africa-founder Samy Ben Redjeb arrived in Barranquilla, by some still considered the "Golden Gate of Colombia". After half a decade in which seven expeditions were made to Barranquilla, Analog Africa is honored to present Diablos del Ritmo, an anthology of -- and tribute to -- the immense sound of 1970s Colombia. Thousands of records were collected, boiling down to a colorfully-diverse selection of 32 tracks split between Afrobeat, Afrofunk and psychedelia-inspired rhythms on Part 1 and an array of danceable tropical rhythms on Part 2. Colombian music in general, especially the music from the Caribbean coast, is heavily influenced by the drums, percussion and chanting of African rhythms. Music from big players of the day -- from Nigeria, The Congo, The Ivory Coast and Cuba -- entered Barranquilla constantly. Afrobeat, terapia and lumbalú clashed effortlessly with the tropical sounds of puya, porro, gaita, cumbiamba, mapelé and chandé to create a rich amalgam of irresistible dance music while traditional styles were refined by an elite cadre of accordion players that included Alejandro Duran, Alfredo Gutierrez, Calixto Ochoa, Anibal Velasquez and Andres Landero. The heights Afro-Colombian music had reached by the early '80s was nothing short of exceptional. But, none of it could have been possible without two vital engines. One was the Picó sound systems -- roaming street clubs dedicated to mobilizing and spreading the rawest music of Africa, the Caribbean and the rest of the transatlantic black world. The second were forwarding-thinking producers. Discos Tropical, Felito Records and Machuca, amongst several other key players, governed and diversified the psychedelic and coastal music scene of Colombia. The deep cuts of Analog Africa's 12th compilation will instantly transport any listener to Colombia's thriving Caribbean coast to indulge in the succulent belly of tropical music's untold historic tales.

HUXLEY Rag & Bone EP 12"
Another solid three track EP from Huxley who enlists the help of Chicago legend Roy Davis Jr. Rag & Bone EP kicks off with "Do You Feel Me" - a track that sees Roy Davis Jr. and Huxley meld moody synths with a tough, rattling low-end. The dub of "Weapon" then mellows the tone of the original.

BAIRD SISTERS, THE Until You Find Your Green LP
LP version. "Considering they've collaborated ever since they were kids living under the same roof, The Baird Sisters arguably could have made an album like Until You Find Your Green years ago. They've released two live recordings (the first recorded by their dad) and made plenty of demos, but this marks the first time Laura and Meg Baird decided to write and record a full-length on their own terms. The songs, recorded in Laura's house, have a familial intimacy joined by skillful depth, the ideal blend for a folk record, an equal mix of comfort and talent. These recordings capture the complexity of seventies progressive folk rock, emphasizing acoustic instrumentation with a lack of self-consciousness that can only come from a private domestic environment. Meg plays guitar, Laura banjo, singing in harmony, and ornamenting their songs with flute, cello, fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, percussion and a cricket chorus. Until You Find Your Green's songs seem traditional, but that's deceptive, and they unfold in greater depths the deeper attention paid to them."

LADY WRAY Queen Alone Instrumentals LP
"Lady Wray's newest full-length, Queen Alone is a showcase of Nicole Wray's inarguable vocal talent. Behind that talent is a musical force deserving of its own recognition. And that's where the spotlight shines on this release, Queen Alone Instrumentals. The record was written and recorded in ten days at the legendary Diamond Mine Studios, in Queens NY with Leon Michels and Thomas Brenneck handling production. Michels and Brenneck are both multi-instrumentalist. Leon Michels contributes his talents on keys, guitar, sax, flute as well as drums and percussion throughout the project. Brenneck handles guitars and bass as well as percussion. Additional contributions from Nick Movshon, Homer Steinweiss, Dave Guy, Max Shrager, and more help to create a sonic landscape that's a perfect complement to Wray's vocal prowess... and also stand as a monumental work all its own. Almost echoing her new record, Nicole says, 'You have to go through something for it to be real.' She has been living with one foot in fame and the other in real life. The result is clear: she's feeling something real in her music again. In no small part due to the incomparable talent and musicianship assembled by Michels and Brenneck for the Queen Alone sessions."

MCCARTHY AND DAMON MCCARTHY, PAUL Rebel Dabble Babble: Four Audio Works 4LP BOX
Rebel Dabble Babble: Four Audio Works is a four LP collection featuring audio from Rebel Dabble Babble (2012), a multi-part video work and installation by artists Paul McCarthy and Damon McCarthy. Paul McCarthy has been involved with the Los Angeles Free Music Society for the past 40 years, notably being a member of Extended Organ, one of the "core" LAFMS groups. The project is an abstracted, layered piece, using the rumors of sexual relationships between the cast and crew during the making of Nicholas Ray's 1955 film Rebel Without A Cause as a starting point. The album is a combination of recordings made on the film set and later during the exhibition Rebel Dabble Babble at The Box, Los Angeles. Audio from multiple video projections produced a tonal environment of fragmented speech and physical movement. "Head" is a field recording made by Paul McCarthy while walking around the installation using a cast replica of his head made by Alex Stevens with binaural microphones inside the ears. Made in the studio where Rebel Dabble Babble was filmed, "Bed" features Paul McCarthy as Nicholas Ray, the "Father" character, pushing a bed across the studio floor. "Three" is a 45 minute field recording that documents the simultaneous and layered movements of three people with microphones navigating through the various rooms of the exhibition at The Box gallery. "Seduction" spotlights Elyse Poppers as Natalie Wood/Judy, the lead actress presenting a pillow talk monologue reminiscent of a video work by Vito Acconci, Theme Song (1973). This four LP box set includes a download card. Edition of 500.

CLUSTER & ENO Cluster & Eno LP
2016 repress of Bureau B's 2009 reissue. LP version. Originally recorded and released in 1977 on Sky Records, the first collaborative album by Brian Eno and Cluster was the first ambient record produced in Germany, and is considered the seminal, defining work of the genre. Brian Eno was certainly instrumental in creating and popularizing the concept of "ambient music" -- but it was not his invention alone. The German musicians Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius (Cluster) were brothers in spirit. As so often in music, the idea of ambient was in the air -- both Eno and Cluster experimenting with the form in the 1970s, rendering any debate as to who influenced who redundant. What is certain, is that Brian Eno attended a Cluster concert in Hamburg in 1975, strategically positioning himself in the front row. Sure enough, he was invited on stage to jam with the band and, after the show, the participants arranged to meet up again. They did so two years later at the Old Weserhof in Forst, the domicile of the German duo. Eno and Cluster spent three weeks in Conny Plank's studio, resulting in two albums: Cluster & Eno and After The Heat (1978). In the liner notes, Asmus Tietchens (who also plays on the record along with Can's Holger Czukay) writes: "Clearly, all three musicians inspired each other during their three weeks together without any clash of personalities. Nevertheless, some tracks sound more like Cluster, some more like Eno. So it made perfect sense to collect the tracks with a Cluster flavor on Cluster & Eno." The importance of this record can never be overstated, nor can its elegance of diverse forms be matched. From Indian sitar and tamboura, to synth warbles and airy tributes to Western groove, it is a rare glimpse at what happens when masters meet.

MOEBIUS PLANK NEUMEIER Zero Set LP
2016 repress; LP version on 180 gram vinyl. In 1983, Dieter Moebius (Cluster) and legendary producer Conny Plank teamed up for the third time, resulting in the Zero Set project, originally released on Sky Records. On this occasion, they were backed up by one of the best drummers on the German rock scene: Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru. Plank, usually more of a background figure as producer, takes an equal share of the limelight alongside the musicians. His supermodern studio is brought into play like an instrument in its own right; Plank explores the full range of audio editing, pushing recording techniques to the limit to achieve maximum brilliance and plasticity. Neumeier uses all of his many years of experience as a drummer, demonstrating the precision and stamina of a drum machine, just infinitely livelier and more inventive. And finally, to Moebius: always one of the patriarchs of German electronic music, a creator of the most bizarre sound happenings, yet never sounding forced or arbitrary. On the contrary, he consistently worked within the context of the tracks themselves and their relationship to each other. The music on Zero Set flows both smoothly and energetically. An important and mystifying chapter in the legacy of Krautrock/Kosmische Musik and a historic moment in German electronic music.

CLUSTER Kollektion 06: Cluster (1971-1981) Compiled and Assembled by John McEntire LP
LP version. "Limited edition: white vinyl & adult colouring cover." Cluster's influence on the development of electronic music cannot be overstated. The original trio of Conrad Schnitzler, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius released two seminal albums as Kluster before Roedelius and Moebius replaced the 'K' with a 'C' and continued as a duo. They produced eight albums in their most innovative period between 1971 and 1981, two of them together with another pioneer of electronic music, Brian Eno. Cluster anticipated much of what would later emerge in such varied styles as industrial, ambient, electro and even synth-pop. Some call Cluster's music avant-garde, others krautrock or kosmische. Hence their first album, as a microcosm of their entire oeuvre, made the list of "100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening)" in The Wire magazine. On Kollektion 06, John McEntire provides a collection of tracks spanning Cluster's first eight studio albums. John McEntire is a drummer/percussionist and recording engineer/producer. He is a founding and current member of Tortoise and The Sea & Cake; former contributing/touring member of Red Krayola and Gastr Del Sol. He has been the owner/operator of Soma Electronic Music Studios in Chicago, IL since 1995. Asmus Tietchens on Cluster: "Cluster's role in the development of new German electronic music went unnoticed for a long while. Cacophonous noise in the 1970s and 1980s masked the subtlety of Cluster aesthetics, diminishing their force of impact. Only since the 1990s, and all the more so today, have Cluster been identified and celebrated as pioneers. The somewhat hackneyed 'avant-garde' tag really amounts to nothing more than being ahead of one's time. And those who are ahead of their time often slip out of sight. Now, twenty, thirty years later, with so many new aural experiences on offer, listening habits have changed to such a great extent that we are better placed to assess Cluster's importance, their influence on subsequent generations of musicians. THEE OH SEES An Odd Entrances LP
LP version. "From the same misty mountaintop tape spool as August's A Weird Exits (2016), Thee Oh Sees bring the companion album An Odd Entrances. Delving more towards the contemplative than the face-skinning aspects of its predecessor, this sister album is a cosmic exercise en plein aire with John Dwyer and company double-drum shuffling, lounging with cellos, following a flute around the groove, and spooling a few Grimm-dark lullabies along the way. Lurking in the grass are a snake or two, like the celestial facing instrumental buzz of 'Unwrap The Fiend Pt. 1.'... But for the most part this is a relatively hushed affair, a morning rather than evening listen."

NITSCH, HERMANN 25. Aktion (wiederaufgeführt) LP
Hermann Nitsch - Orgien Mysterien Theater - 25. Aktion. Re-performance of 25. Action, March 1982 in the gallery Pakesch, Vienna. The premiere was in New York, in 1968. Hermann Nitsch, an Austrian painter, performance-artist and composer, was a crucial founding artist of "Viennese Actionism". He has held exhibitions and performed all over the world since the '60s. The idea of the very sensual and archaic Orgien Mysterien Theater was developed in the late '50s and has been performed in variations to this day. For this piece, Nitsch works out all settings of the rituals, the feast in great detail, precisely composes days of art, performance, food, wine and music, to celebrate the existence of mankind...

GOLDSMITH, JERRY Chinatown LP
"Sometimes, it doesn't take very long to create something brilliant. When producer Robert Evans rejected Phillip Lambro's original score for Chinatown, Jerry Goldsmith was hired to create another, from scratch, in just 10 days. To say he rose to the challenge is an understatement. Goldsmith, a 20 year veteran of the TV and movie industry with credits including Dr Kildare, Planet Of The Apes and even The Waltons theme, turned in a work that was both a career peak for him and the savior of Roman Polanski's masterpiece of neo-noir. What was clever about it? It wasn't quite straight jazz, it wasn't quite classical. It was identifiably a movie soundtrack, but an unusual one at that, leaning heavily on Uan Rasey's mournful trumpet solos, sparingly using pianos, harps, strings and percussion, and employing sounds and crashes as overtures. It doesn't try to speak to the film's 1930s setting so much as to the mood and feel of the movie, a piece about political and moral corruption in a water-starved LA featuring Jack Nicholson at the absolute top of his game. 'I remember [Evans] speaking about the music having a contemporary feel, contemporary meaning the '30s,' Goldsmith said in an interview before his 2004 death. 'I said, 'Bob, I don't think so - you see that on the screen, why should I do that in the underscore? ... Emotions are timeless.' ' Originally released as a soundtrack in 1974, and long out of print, Cinewax's reissue is remastered from the original tapes and is presented as an exact reproduction of the original album artwork featuring Jim Pearsall's classic film art. Drop the needle and hear why Chinatown is, reportedly, David Lynch's favorite soundtrack. Goldsmith was right about emotions... Newly remastered audio. Housed in a deluxe Stoughton tip-on jacket."

COIL Backwards 2LP
2016 repress; Gatefold double LP version. Includes insert and download code. After the groundbreaking release of 1990's Love's Secret Domain album, Coil were not dormant; their main project was Backwards, which was started in 1992, updated considerably between 1993 and 1995, and transferred in 1996 to New Orleans, where it was finished in the magic of the Nothing Studios of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). The album saw the fruition of Jhonn Balance's recent vocal-coaching, which produced haunting, passionate vocals while reaching new heights. Now, in 2015, 23 years after its initiation, these tracks have been beautifully preserved by Danny Hyde and are finally available in highest quality audio. Differing substantially from the later, remixed incarnation, The New Backwards (2008), Backwards contains the original versions of Coil's much-loved tracks "A Cold Cell" and "Fire of the Mind," which have appeared on various compilations over the years, and are now presented as originally intended. This album is the essential bridge between LSD and the later Musick to Play in the Dark series; an essential conduit to understand the journey that Coil took.

HAZE, JAY Recurring Melancholy 12"
Jay Haze presents a new single from his forthcoming album, Rain Drops And Birds. "Recurring Melody", featuring Hoffmann Ensemble, defines distances - synths appear close next to you and then subtly disappear back into space. The violins lose their distance with a direct tone. "Hurt", featuring Robert Owens, is a peak into a sorrowful, yet hopeful mind, carefully approaching you with a backdrop of dub. Heavy synths just glide away. "A Delicate Life", featuring Mo, emerges a cluster of harmonic and melodic beauty from Mo's unique improvisations of his self-invented "Mulutar".

BORBETOMAGUS The Eastcote Studios Session LP
Dancing Wayang present a new and rare studio album by US noise legends Borbetomagus titled The Eastcote Studios Session. Recorded in 2014, it unites fire-breathing saxophonists Jim Sauter, Don Dietrich and face-flaying guitarist Donald Miller whom together summon one of their most forceful yet detailed sonic onslaughts to date. The bulk of Borbetomagus releases over the last forty years have been taken from live recordings. This particular workout, however, took place in the eponymous studio in London and was captured, mixed and mastered with exacting care and attention. That means all the amps lived to tell the tale. It means that the listener can really focus on just what is going on in this music, the individual elements that form the unique "what the...?" that is the Borbetomagus experience. Not that this record isn't monolithic. It's as dense and slab-like on first approach as the vinyl it's pressed on, initially impenetrable and resistant. But that's monolithic as in an Ayler solo, a Bomb Squad production, or a Hijokaidan live meltdown. Or indeed like the structure in Kubrick's 2001. Get close, there are whole worlds in here. It takes serious improv chops and acute listening to carve the detail deep throughout the red meter levels that you'll find in this music. Sauter, Dietrich and Miller have been playing together more than long enough to take their music to that level and beyond. It is a work by musicians who know their instruments and how much they can subvert, distort and reverse engineer them and keep them sounding just the way they want. This studio recording is a new kind of peak. In Jim Sauter's own words: "This is unlike anything we've ever recorded before." Borbetomagus are Jim Sauter (sax), Don Dietrich (sax) and Donald Miller (electric guitar). They have played together since 1979 and have released over 30 albums, cassettes and 7"s. The trio cast a seething, many-tentacled shadow of influence over the Japanese and American noise scenes and stand as wild, brutish brethren to many of our finest European improvisers. Merciless, undeniable and monstrously beautiful. Housed in Dancing Wayang's customary hand-screenprinted wrap-around sleeve featuring an explosive collage designed by renowned British artist Richard Wilson. Liner notes by Edwin Pouncey (Savage Pencil, The Wire). 180 gram vinyl in an edition of 500.

MONOLOC The Untold Way CD
Sascha Borchardt, aka Monoloc, is a dystopic atmospheres fanatic that has dedicated his life to the dancefloor from an early age. The Frankfurt-born artist's raw, yet sleek take on techno and ambient has evolved to characterize his own musical style in his productions. Monoloc's sound is a mixture between techno, dub and ambient, nurturing a tone that is driving, groovy and low-slung, but with greater emotional range. He acquires most of his inspiration from old movies and likes to work mostly with field recordings in his productions. The Untold Way is his second album, following Drift (CLR 011CD, 2012), and shows a notably matured development in the artist's style. Sascha explores the distant realms between the pillars of genres, presenting a 12 track album of techno but it proves to be uniquely different - left-field, keeping a foot in ambient, with elements outside of the dancefloor. He brings together the concept of an album written in his own language of atmospheric patterns, melodies and fragments of words and voices. Instead of functional four-to-the-floor tracks, he explores the meaning and depths of dark, melancholic music. The Untold Way starts with the ambient "Revive", slow and gentle yet apprehensive. As the listener moves through the album they catch glimpses of almost formed club tracks, in "The Untold Way", "Michigan Lights", "Gravity Growl" and "Alighting". These have remnants of a dancefloor impression, a prominent beat is there, but not much more. At other points you see Monoloc's more experimental side. "No GHSTS" featuring Tijana T evokes a resounding beat filling an empty space, with the occasional piano melody and eerie vocal. "Cloning Society" is beat-less, driven merely by a consistent bass and echoing voice. The album is interspersed with short ambient interludes, each just a few minutes long: "Lowa" and "Gently Falls", serene and reflective, give the listener time to breathe. And bringing you back to familiarity are more the dancefloor focused tracks of the album, "Momentum" and "Muted". The last track, "Ground Disorder", brings the album to a halt with an air of nostalgia. The result is a story, a history in twelve chapters that the listener is guided through like the landscapes of a gothic horror film, with a new twist on the percussion or surprising effect hidden behind every bass sound.

MUNIZ, JOYCE Made In Vienna CD
Brazilian-born, Austria-based artist Joyce Muniz combines the sounds and rhythms of her home country with contemporary European electronic sounds. Her full-length debut album Made In Vienna, on Shir Khan's Exploited, showcases the latest evolution of her sound, moving from the dancefloor into a space somewhere between the club and the home, aided by a slew of perfectly crafted vocals. "This album took almost two years to make," she reveals, "I met a lot of people during my tours. I also brought a lot of people to Vienna to work with me." Her symbiotic relationship with the Austrian capital sees her put in as much as she takes out of it. She is part of the fabric of the city's musical scene, from her show on national radio station FM4 to her residency at the sadly deceased Pratersauna. With a long gestation period and a cast of collaborators picked up through her journeys across the world, Made In Vienna is a record that embodies Muniz's recent life and experiences. "It's hard to say what this album is," she elaborates on the record's identity, "I can imagine people dancing to it in the club but also in the car, or hearing it on the radio or at home. I think it really depends of the mood of the listeners." Kat Vinter's honeyed vocal on "Cover Me Up" gets the album going in fine style, countered by male singer Knixx's soulful delivery on "Drop In Pressure" as a follow-up. "Simple Poetry" shows she doesn't rely on vocals to make a captivating track, however, with lush chords pulsing over a succinct arrangement. "Wake Beside You" shows her prowess in the b-line department with Christa Vi's higher registers providing the perfect counterbalance to the phat bottom end. "Hide" with Enequist takes her musicality to new heights with gliding harmonies and xylophones and Human Life collaboration "Deeper" takes the melodies into a moodier place. "Gotta Love It" is one of her typically guttural, low-slung club workouts. "Daydreaming" provides a gently pumping and euphoric groove. After this comes Angelique Bianca's sultry tones on the techy Wehbba co-production "Sleepless", and her Kraftwerk-sampling single "Back In The Days" with Jungle Brothers legend Bam's inimitable hip-house stylings showing what a diverse range of sounds and songs Muniz is able to eke out of the house/techno template. Closer, "Silent Crime", presents the album's most delicate and fragile moment. Includes download card.

UGK Super Tight... 2LP
"Super Tight... is the second album from hip hop legends UGK, originally released in 1994. The title of the album is taken from its stand out single 'Front, Back & Side To Side'. Bun B and Pimp C (R.I.P.) were already on fire from their debut album a few years prior but they perfected the southern playa sound with this record. At the time of its release Super Tight... was only issued on cassette and CD, so it's a must for fans and collectors to grab the vinyl now that it's available for the very first time. The album kicks off with 'Return', which after a few snare hits and the bluster of Pimp C's voice it is clear to the world - the underground kings are back. Countless tracks like 'Three Sixteens' (featuring DJ DMD), 'Stoned Junkee', 'It's Supposed To Bubble', 'I Left It Wet For You' and the previously mentioned 'Front, Back, & Side To Side' all perfectly showcase the chemistry between Bun B & Pimp C, over deep southern funk grooves. The production on this album is stellar, all bass heavy and features Meters lead guitarist Leo Nocentelli. Like their debut album Too Hard To Swallow, Bun B and Pimp C were ahead of the game, and with Super Tight... they perfected it."

D.O.C., THE No One Can Do It Better LP
Repressed. "Get On Down is very proud to announce a reissue of one of the West Coast's most revered, yet underrated, hip-hop classics: The D.O.C.'s No One Can Do It Better. Produced entirely by Dr. Dre and out of print on vinyl in the U.S. for 25 years, this limited edition on black vinyl features original album artwork and thirteen tracks of rap heaven. When his debut album hit in mid-1989, The D.O.C. was in the vortex of the biggest hip-hop happening on the planet: the rise and rule of N.W.A. The group's breakout album Straight Outta Compton had hit one year prior and had created both controversy and worldwide critical acclaim. As rap history buffs and industry insiders know, the D.O.C. was a crucial behind-the-scenes member of the N.W.A. inner circle -- his most important role in the early days of the group, besides his close working relationship with Dr. Dre, was writing many of Eazy-E's rhymes, including his hit 1988 single 'We Want Eazy.' But The D.O.C. wasn't in N.W.A. and never wanted to be -- he was his own man, with his own vision. And after Compton proceeded to blow up (much like Eazy's 1988 LP, Eazy-Duz-It), the next crew album was No One Can Do It Better. Significantly, it was the first album where Dr. Dre showed his greatness as a solo producer for one MC. And the Dallas-born D.O.C. lived up to the challenge of Dre's funky, expertly-produced tracks by bringing his A-game on the mic. Boasting four singles -- 'The D.O.C. and the Doctor'; 'Mind Blowin''; the smash 'It's Funky Enough'; and 'The Formula' -- the album is flawless from beginning to end. Of particular note beyond the singles is 'The Grand Finale,' which was the last time that Ice Cube, M.C. Ren and Eazy-E would rhyme on a track together. Skillfully rhyming over both fast and slow tracks, The D.O.C. showed on this amazing record that he was one of hip-hop's most talented MCs, especially on the West Coast scene. He nearly died in a horrific car crash as the album was catching fire in the late summer of 1989, but he survived and continues to make new music and act as a sounding board for Dr. Dre to this day."

GOFF, SIMON Hue LP
Hue is the new record by British multi-instrumentalist Simon Goff. Limited edition of 300. Includes download code. The record is formed as an impression of the sound and music from a dance installation created by Goff along with visual artist Sebastian Kite (UK) and choreographer Lisanne Goodhue (Canada) in 2015. The work presents a non-hierarchal scenic and temporal space that challenges traditional concepts and modes of experiencing dance performance, concert music and visual art. The installation consists of a series of spaces defined by large translucent screens, color projection, live sound and dance. Performers and audiences occupy an ambulatory space together, both parties having a direct influence on the course of the piece: physically, visually and sonically. The artists shift their practices collectively and individually, transitioning the space between installation and performance to encourage sensitive observation through repetition and change. After being a member of Leeds (UK) based cult-pop band Hope and Social for six years, Goff is continuing to explore how to involve spectators and other performers in his creative process. Through the use of motion sensing technology, the music for Hue is formed by people moving through the space, triggering samples and electronic devices. Inspired by the minimalist music of Terry Riley and his contemporaries, the score for Hue is formed as a series of musical cells that can be combined and looped in any order. The cover of the record is an impression of the score used by Goff in the performances. From this score, Goff performed as a live musician in the installation, interacting with the sound generated from people's movement in the space. The installation used color as a compositional bridge between visual art, music and dance. Primary and secondary colors form movements that can be combined in any sequence and adapt their respective durations depending on the atmosphere in the room. The result is a subtly shifting atmosphere and ambience informed by all participants in the work. Simon Goff is a British multi-instrumentalist, improviser, producer and composer. He is a classically trained violinist who also spent his formative years studying bass guitar with Herbie Flowers (David Bowie, Lou Reed). He focuses mainly on string instruments and electronic processing and in recent years he has written music for dance, film and sound installation.

SUEVES, THE Change Your Life LP
"Chicago's punk underworld has re-imagined itself several times over the past twenty years, from the cavorting slime punk damage of the early 2000s, through the fracturing of styles and directions a few years later, it's all been simmering salaciously for generations now, and for the last few years, only a few really noteworthy band have grasped the raw agitation as well as The Sueves. Rearing their ugliness up through the tropes of plastic flowers and goofy sunglasses, these brave young ravagers are not content to sit idly by as the stench of indifference passes over the masses, always the 'least chill' band at the rock n' roll party and that is really a good thing. You can't just sit still when The Sueves are wielding their wares, both in person and on record, the aggression has to burst out somehow, and although it's far, far easier to just appeal to the low-hanging fruit dangling at the bottom of the rock n' roll food chain, it's far more respectable to be the ones who are bleeding and bruised, flipping over the tables and chairs with reckless abandonment, every single time. 'The Sueves's core sound echoes back to a time not long ago when you really had to try hard to make your band stand out, pushing the boundaries of the tired 'garage rock' trappings into a mutated stump of unpredictable punk splatter. The guitar tone sits somewhere between sadistically strangulated and blisteringly complicated, an ominous bonafide shredding sound that leaves you beaten and beleaguered and gasping for more, even with such serrated hooks dug in so deep. And while their less-than-shocking appearance keeps them hidden within their surroundings, it's this visceral noise emanating from their sizzling weapons of choice that clearly sets them apart, constantly reminding you of the danger that lies within true rock n' roll savagery. The nuances are sickening, the delivery desperate, and that oh-so-impossible tension all tie together with The Sueves on this debut LP to level your expectations and decimate your dreams of a low-key existence.' --VictimofTime.com"

LIMINANAS, THE Malamore LP
"By now this Perpignan band is less of a shadowy illusion and more of a full-on force of French underground sounds, and we couldn't be happier to being a part in helping perpetuate this fully-blossoming evolution. HoZac had the honor of releasing the debut single from The Liminanas in early 2010, featuring their most enduring song 'I'm Dead' as well as their Crystal Anis LP a few years after, and in a short amount of time, they've laid the foundation of darkness delicately into their hazy template of swirling, mind-expanding soliloquies for all to see, hear, and feel. As time has passed, the band has expanded and contracted with whatever size ensemble worked best at the time, still rotating around the core members Marie and Lio, but switching out lead vocalists and backup members until they found the right fit. Their newest incarnation features the duo with a full band, much like you'd see onstage when they play live, keeping those delicate nuances in top form, and allowing Marie and Lio to steer this vessel straight into your pleasure zones. 'On their new LP Malamore, they keep their lyrics mostly in English, yet their sly use of the French dialect is pure heaven to any fans of Serge Gainsbourg who also enjoy their side of Velvet Underground, and it's a deadly combo to the uninitiated, to say the least. The breathy vocals inflected over the sublime feedback and fuzz coalesce into the perfect soundtrack to this utopian atmosphere, never quite reaching out fully from beyond their ethereal mist, yet grasping you firmly and pulling you into their lair where the senses are blurred into a living, breathing, embodiment of modern French noir perfection. And as if their own creative construction wasn't already sturdy enough this time around, Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order/Warsaw/Stiff Kittens) has even stepped up to offer his bass contribution on the track 'Garden of Love,' which shimmers with other-worldly undulations and lifts the band even higher in reverence, a remarkable collaboration and a certain breakthrough, undoubtedly. Your time to indulge has come, and The Liminanas have really struck gold yet again with Malamore their latest high water mark in effortless French pop perfection, served cold, dark, and fresh." --VictimofTime.com.

TERMINALS, THE Uncoffined LP
Remastered reissue of this debut, originally released on Flying Nun and recorded in 1988. "We are proud to present our first New Zealand band and luckily one of the finest to ever grace the Flying Nun label. The Terminals were a mid-late 80s-era super-group featuring many important shards of the Kiwi underground, including core members Peter Stapleton, Mary Heney, and Ross Humphries from the very first Flying Nun release, the monumental Pin Group, joined with Susan Heney from The McGoohans, as well as Stephen Cogle from Vacuum and Victor Dimisich Band. Hard to keep all those intersections straight, that's for sure, but this intense, brooding and ominous cadre of players have pulled together some of the darkest sounds to ever emanate from the isle. It's hard to pick favorites with The Terminals, but Uncoffined, their debut LP recorded in 1988, seemed like the best place to start. It's hard to believe something this dark and twisted could also be so catchy, sounding like not much else from the time, The Terminals never caught the indie rock afterglow that label mates The Clean, The Bats, or The Verlaines got, yet their catalog of dubious releases is still being discovered, even now as we speak. 'Remastered from the original tapes to revive what was lost in the haze of limp late 1980s studio mastering techniques, this improved version sparkles with hostility, the sheen of atmospheric shadows interlaced between tension-building crescendos, The Terminals's Uncoffined is a lost masterpiece of Antipodean, dark-wave, pop music, destined to reinstate it's place in the annals of underground music history." --VictimofTime.com.

PADE, ELSE MARIE Electronic Works 1958-1995 3LP
2016 repress. Triple LP version. Pressed on audiophile grade heavy duty vinyl. Else Marie Pade, born in 1924 in Denmark, is a precious golden gem in the world of contemporary electro-acoustic music. She is a true pioneer of electronic music and musique concrète. Pade is Denmark's first lady of electronic music and her piece "Syv Cirkler (Seven Circles)" became the first electronic piece performed on Danish radio. Pade's fascination with sound began in early childhood. Isolated in her bed for long periods due to illness, she began listening and intensively observing the sounds around her. As a teenager being imprisoned for spying on Nazi compounds in Arhus, she had a similar experience of isolation and sharpening her awareness of sound. Once released from prison, she became a piano student at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen. When she was introduced to Pierre Schaeffer in 1952, she instead chose to pursue the nuances of her inner sound-world. Shortly after beginning her studies with Schaeffer, she had her first electronic composition premiered in 1958. Else Marie Pade's Electronic Works 1958-1995 is a three LP set of Pade's most important compositions which was restored, mastered, and cut at Dubplates & Mastering in 2014 in Berlin under the watchful ears of curator Jacob Kirkegaard. These monumental works are presented, for the first time, pressed on audiophile-grade heavy-duty vinyl. "The sounds outside became concrète music, and in the evening I could imagine that the stars and the moon and the sky uttered sounds and those turned into electronic music." --Else Marie Pade

"Circles & Lines" softy transitions the listener to the other side, leaving it up to them to decide where they want to bring it. "Everything Is Real" is an early morning track that seduces you to stay. "Mardigan" is the true beauty here. The top-line melody awakes this special undeniable melancholy.

CAGE, JOHN Complete Song Books 2LP
"... to consider the Song Books as a work of art is nearly impossible. Who would dare? It resembles a brothel, doesn't it?" --John Cage. Complete Song Books, volume three in the Perihel series on Karlrecords, along with La Legende d'Eer (KR 024LP, 2016) and Douze Inventions en Six Modes De Jeu (KR 028LP, 2015), is dedicated to one of the most iconic composers of 20th century, John Cage. All 92 pieces of Song Books are presented here, with stunning interpretations by Reinhold Friedl, recorded at Rashad Becker's Clunk Studio who also contributed live electronics. John Cage (1912-1992) is one of the most important composers in modern music: with more than 250 compositions, many of which are considered key works of new music, and theoretical essays on composition, he significantly changed the way we think about and perceive music today. But Cage not only left a major impact in the academic world, he is also cited as an important inspiration by a wide range of diverse musicians from younger generations, be it electronic producers, experimentalists or noise artists. His Song Books, published 1970 in three volumes, is a collection of open works that contains not only songs, but a strange hybrid collection of compositions, graphic scores, meditation rules, experimental settings, absurd musical instructions, performance settings, musical references, and fluxus-inspired actions such as eating fruits or drinking cognac (Cage loved whiskey and cognac). When Reinhold Friedl (director of the ensemble Zeitkratzer) entered the Clunk Studio to record the whole cycle with Rashad Becker (who handled the feedback cabinet and live electronics), the idea was quite simple: to approach each single piece in an informal way but to do all 92 pieces in the right order. What came out in the end is a kaleidoscopic lecture and interpretation of the compositions with the help of a strange mixture of ancient and modern tools: new electronics, old and special microphones, self-built instruments, arbitrary garbage sounds, sophisticated live-electronics devices, and quotes. Complete Song Books turns out to be an early hymn for sonic freedom, a sonic promenade full of beautiful references. Constructed by Reinhold Friedl. Performed by: Reinhold Friedl - voice, toys, wooden games, metal objects, complex objects, microphones, garbage, ... ; Rashad Becker - feedback cabinet, live electronics. Mastered and cut at D&M, Berlin. 180 gram vinyl in an edition of 500; Includes insert and download code. Artwork by Lillevan.

LOFFLER, CHRISTIAN Young Alaska 12"+7"
Originally released in 2014. Christian Löffler presents a musical statement and autobiographical journey named Young Alaska, on Ki Records. The German producer unveils his unique soundscapes by delivering seven tracks which are deeply rooted, once again, in harmony and emotion. Löffler's unique sound, based on an intense melancholic feel, brought him a busy touring schedule performing at clubs and festivals all over the world. He sticks to his calm approach to electronic music and proves, through his live sets, that emotions control the dancefloor, creating a real sense of euphoria. His experiences on the road are reflected on Young Alaska, which is largely inspired by these journeys and places he has visited. From the peaceful landscapes of the title track to the melodramatic heights of "Mt. Grace", he took "Notes" back home to transfer the impressions into his music. Songs like "Beirut", "Veiled Grey" and "Alpine Sketch" are very diverse but come together harmoniously on this release. As on his debut album, A Forest (2012) he once again collaborates with Me Succeeds lead-singer Mohna, on "Beirut". During the course of Young Alaska, Christian tells the story of his journey over the course of the past two years. Ki Records stroke its roots deep into Cologne soil since 2009, building a solid stem of international artists that grew along the way since the label's start. Sometimes techno-ish, melancholic or playful electro pop infused with vocals, the Ki releases are diverse in sound and genre, but relate in quality. Most of the labels musicians are somewhat involved in many disciplines of art. From the smallest detail in production to the whole package - each release is a piece of art throughout.

VA Pop Ambient 2017 LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Includes download code. Pop Ambient, Kompakt's longest-running compilation series after Total, sees its 2017 installment. Features exclusive material from acclaimed genre veterans and series newcomers Jens-Uwe Beyer, Yui Onodera + Scanner, Max Würden, Leandro Fresco, Thore Pfeiffer, Kenneth James Gibson and Soulsavers remixed by Wolfgang Voigt. Following his own cues from preceding entries, Pop Ambient chief curator Voigt again strikes a perfect ratio of established producers and debuting guests. From Jens-Uwe Beyer's atmospheric soundscapes, to Thore Pfeiffer's glitch romance "Good Life", Leandro Fresco's beatific drone fests, as well as Kenneth James Gibson's melancholic epic "Her Flood Knocked Me To The Ground (But I Was Already There)". Other returning artists include Anton Kubikov of SCSI-9 fame (with electronic reverie "Dekka") and Cologne sound-smith Max Würden, who was last seen releasing wonderfully immersive albums on BineMusic and Wolfgang Voigt's very own Exponate series. His guitar-infused, dubbed-out cut "Fernfeld" and the mysterious electronic mantra "186.000 Miles Per Second" are particularly striking renditions of the rich sonic narratives possible in Pop Ambient. For the 2017 release, Kompakt welcome Tokyo-based Yui Onodera; a trained musician and architectural acoustic designer by trade, Onodera embeds diverse influences from traditional sound design, film scores, contemporary composition and electro-acoustic experimentation in his work, resulting in intricate drone sculptures and sound skylines. This skill set gels naturally with the sonic sensibilities of iconic experimental composer Scanner who teams up with Onodera for the cut "Locus Solus". Wolfgang Voigt himself makes an appearance as remixer, turning the track "Hal" from electronic-rock-gospel duo Soulsavers's 2015 album Kubrick into a voluptuous and immersive sound journey. It's the cherry on top of a particularly fluffy cake that will prove irresistible to any connoisseur of ambient music.

VA Le Pop: La Boum! (Les Chansons De La Nouvelle Scene Francaise) 2LP
Double LP version. Includes WAV download code. A special edition in the Le Pop series, La Boum is a party compilation that shows just how danceable and versatile the modern chanson is - It is clever, energetic, full of humor and extremely diverse. Since the beginning of the series, the Le Pop DJ team (Oliver Fröschke and Rolf Witteler) have promoted their compilations by playing them at release parties and at special events like German-French festivities. Over the years, some tracks have emerged as favorites, a sure way to get people on the dancefloor time and time again. The series has always been rhythmically diverse, but a compilation of new francophone music, with one track as danceable as the next, is something the Le Pop DJ team has dreamt of for a long time. The span of musical variety on this album could not be broader. From the playfully cutesy opener "Polka" to the crude '60s-garage hit finale "Voulez- Vous Coucher Avec Moi?", Le Pop La Boum takes the listener on both a geographical and a stylistic journey past the most daring corners of the world of francophone music. From southern French dancehall to the YéYé-punk colossus "Bordel" - from the indie party-hit "Singapore Slang" from Montréal to the recklessly drummed, high-speed rock'n'roll track "Corinne" by Mathieu Boogaerts. Even Benjamin Biolay shows himself in a new light, as a Cumbia crooner singing in duet with the Uruguayan-Argentinian reggae singer Alika. Julian Baer's chanson-funk and the young newcomer Cléa Vincent's retro disco track are equally refreshing. Just like all other editions of this series, Le Pop La Boum not only works well on the dancefloor, but it is a compilation that can be enjoyed at home as well. There are also plenty of new names to check out, that have previously not been featured by Le Pop; Apart from Mathieu Boogaerts, Alexis HK and Benjamin Biolay, all names introduced on Le Pop La Boum are new. La Boum is the third special edition in the Le Pop series, after the duet sampler En Duo (LPM 004LP, 2004) and Les Filles (2008), and throws an entirely new light on the vibrant neo-chanson scene. Also features: Luce, Radiomatic, Call Me Poupee, Arthur H Et -M-, Oai Star, Fabulous Trobadors, Noze, Thomas Dutronc, Agnes Bihl Et Tom Poisson, Alister, and Marcel Bontempi.

"Album remastered from pristine LHI master tapes. Includes previously unheard versions of 'Pray Them Bars Away' & 'Easy & Me.' Liner notes by Hunter Lea including interviews with Torbjörn Axelman, Suzi Jane Hokom, Nina Lizell, Don Randi, Hal Blaine and Shel Talmy. Rare film production photos from the Torbjörn Axelman archive. Light In The Attic records is proud to continue its Lee Hazlewood series with this expanded reissue of Cowboy in Sweden. Released as the last LHI LP, Cowboy in Sweden was a soundtrack to the 1970 cult classic film of the same name starring Lee Hazlewood. The film was a surreal psychedelic account of Lee's journey to his new homeland, while the soundtrack was a perfect compilation of Hazlewood's strongest songs recorded over a prolific globe trotting three year period. The production scope of the album was the most ambitious of his career, recorded in Paris, London, Los Angeles and Stockholm with a slew of talented session musicians, producers and arrangers. Cowboy in Sweden is quite possibly the purest distillation of the Hazlewood sound; lush melancholy country pop with a pinch of humor ('Pray Them Bars Away'), a dash of bummer ('Cold Hard Times'), some beautiful ladies to sing with ('Leather & Lace' & 'Hey Cowboy') and even a couple anti-war protest songs to be topical ('No Train to Stockholm' & 'For A Day Like Today'). The David 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' Whitaker arranged orchestral pop of 'What's More I Don't Need Her' and the stone cold Hazlewood classic 'The Night Before' cement the album as Lee's peak on LHI records and ironically the label's swan song."

YANTRA MANDIR Yantra Mandir 2LP
Conceived in the cultural cellars of Bangkok, Thailand, and Geneva, Switzerland, Yantra Mandir the nine-track LP by Jerome Doudet, aka Yantra Mandir aka The Dude of Stratosphear, casts a wide net over experimental meditative ambient music, progressive drone, Brahmanic accents, and ritual oscillations. Together, this work represents a 20 year journey in Geneva of musical production, artistic expression, and the melting pot of experiences fused with the rich legacy of Indian spiritual sounds. The LP is partly a collaboration between five close collaborators, each contributing a single sound to complete the jigsaw, and partly comprised of field recordings of Bopa musicians from Rajasthan, in northern India. Added to the confluence are intricate layers of electric bass and electronic vibrations. The name derives from ancient Sanskrit words emblematic of the overarching sound. "Yantra" is the Sanskrit word for mystical diagrams found in the Tantric traditions of the Indus Valley. These diagrams are used to worship dieties at home or in temples, as a meditation aid, and to activate the various benefits and occult powers as defined by Hindu astrological and Tantric texts. "Mandir" is the Sanskrit word for a place in which a still mind and soul float freely search of life, peace, joy, and comfort. For centuries, the mandir has remained the nexus of a community where people forget their differences and voluntarily unite. "Garden of Reality" is the musical meeting point between Europe, Southeast Asia, and India - and everything in between from past, present, and future. Jerome Doudet was born in the beginning of the '70s with a father DJing in disco clubs. Raised in the alternative scene of the very international city of Geneva Switzerland, he started playing bass at the age of ten and spinning various old punk/funk/rock/reggae in squats all along the '90s. Bass player in bands such as Knut and Half Japanese, he now works with the experimental kraut band Bliscappen Van Maria, and on his tantric bass solo project Yantra Mandir. After many trips to India and South East Asia the Dude, always in search of new sounds, has sharpened his globe-spanning mix with far eastern psychedelic music and with largely unheard gems from across the musical spectrum. 140 gram vinyl with printed inner sleeves in gatefold sleeve. Edition of 300.

MF DOOM Operation: Doomsday CD
"Underneath his mysterious metal mask, MF DOOM hides the cachet underground legends are made of. After KMD (his first group)'s 1994 sophomore album Bl_ck B_st_rds was shelved by Elektra in 1994 and his blood brother Subroc (one half of the sibling rap duo) passed away, surviving frontman Zev Love X mutated into the MC Avenger known as MF DOOM and the Rap world is better for it. This 19-cut deep album is ridiculously dope, in a bizarro Ol' Dirty Bastard kind of way. Doom sounds either high or drunk on most of the tracks, his self-produced beats are gritty, and his rhyme styles are almost indecipherable. On arguably the best track, 'Rhymes Like Dimes,' Doom weaves some pointed lyrics through his abstract wordplay, spitting 'only in America could you find a way to earn a healthy buck / And still keep your attitude on self-destruct. 'Who You Think I Am?' features DOOM's crew M.onster I.sland C.zars, while on '?' he trades hot verses with former Columbia artist Kurious Jorge. Doom's avant-garde ghetto-rhyme philosophies take even more intentionally weird twists on 'Tick, Tick...' where he and guest MC MF Grimm's flows warble over a rhythm track whose tempo speeds up and slows down continually. The comic-book themed skits, will help take you deep into the mind of an MC who is as otherworldly as they come. And in today's bland commercial Rap universe, Operation: Doomsday's left-of-center beats and rhymes are the perfect remedy."

IN AETERNAM VALE + ANNEQ Je Ai Dissous 12"
"We're happy to announce a unique collaboration between one of our long-time favorite artists, In Aeternam Vale and Anneq, a stunning young Madrid-based vocalist originally from Minsk, Belarus. In Aeternam Vale and Anneq met in 2011 and began to collaborate in 2015. In Aeternam Vale, originally from Lyon, has been making synthesizer based electronic music since the early '80s, when he began to self-release many of his recordings on cassette. As the years went on his cold and caustic synth-punk sound, often primitive and hypnotic evolved into rhythmic, throbbing music for the dancefloor, his own unique style of techno. On this record, In Aeternam Vale and Anneq come together to create two very different versions of the same track, one fit for the club and the other a more intimate version, for quiet listening at home. 'Je Ai Dissous', the opener, is a dark smoky track with a hypnotic, cyclical underlay reminiscent of early industrial music while the 'Page R Version' of the same track transcends the floor and becomes completely filmic. Anneq's seductive vocal is suspended in a beat-less, cavernous void. Side B opens with 'Tendencia', a very classic catchy minimal wave style track, sung in Spanish. The 'V6' version of 'Tendencia' again focuses on Anneq's voice set in a darker, slower more atmospheric melody. The four tracks culminate in an elegant and thoughtful collaboration from these two strong talents that complement one another so well. The Je Ai Dissous EP is pressed on 160 gram deep purple 'spilled' inside electric blue transparent vinyl, limited to 999 copies and housed in a gloss printed sleeve."

Whitefield recorded two new studio albums with Taylor and toured in his band between 2009 and 2013, where he met Taylor's son Henry and percussionist/singer Eric Owusu. The trio now front the Johnny! band and find inspiration not only in Ghana's hypnotic grooves, but also the full frontal fuzz guitar assault heard on the legion of '70s Zambian Zamrock albums recently reissued by Now-Again. Indeed, Whitefield credits his tours with Zamrock godfathers Rikki Ililonga and Witch's Jagari Chanda as instrumental in creating the Johnny's sonic backdrop. The band is rounded out by Turkish drummer Bernd Oezsevim (Woima Collective, Rodinia) and Indonesian bassist/multi-instrumentalist Tomi Simatupang (Whitefield Brothers). This is dance rock at the core with the possibilities to stretch out and go into psychedelic realms. The results, spread out over three 7" singles and pressed in a run of 1000 units each, speak for themselves. Every record comes with a download card for WAV files of all six tracks (vocals and instrumentals from each release) and point at a new direction for the music inspired by the great continent."

FRED UND LUNA Gluck Auf 12"
With his project Fred Und Luna, musician Rainer Buchmüller from Karlsruhe, Germany is paying tribute to his favorite electronic-oriented music by using its characteristics like repetition and beautiful melodies, putting them in a contemporary context and preserving their subtle and seductive charm. Fred Und Luna play their self-described Elektro-kraut (concerning songs that are basically Kraut mixed with electronic elements) and Kraut-elektro (which is Elektro mixed with Kraut elements). They live in Karlsruhe which - like Düsseldorf - lies next to the river Rhine. Perhaps Karlsruhe is the new Düsseldorf, with Fred Und Luna as pioneers.

BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE Sunset Mission 2LP
Double LP version. Comes in a gatefold sleeve. Pias present a reissue of Sunset Mission, the 2000 album from Germany's doom jazz cult band Bohren & Der Club Of Gore. They are loved by musicians Mike Patton (Faith No More) and Stephen O'Malley (SunnO). For fans of SunnO, OM, Max Richter, Fennesz."The substance we are seeking here lies beyond the bare bones of fact, the when and the where (founded in 1988, Mülheim an der Ruhr) or personnel and instruments. The story is more than the sum of its facts. Mysteries may very well lurk here or there along the way. What keeps the final two founder members going after all this time? Do Morten Gass and Robin Rodenberg have skeletons locked in their closets? How dearly we would we love to know the answer to that one, alas the most beautiful puzzles tend to remain unsolved. Including their debut Gore Motel (1994), Bohren & Der Club Of Gore have amassed an impressive eight long players... Strange as it may seem, there is a uniform consistency to their reception. Whatever the band does, critiques are unfailingly positive, yet repetitious. Consider the arrival of Christoph Clöser in 1997, by way of illustration. When he joined the group, his saxophone replaced the departing Reiner Henseleit's guitar as one of the defining instruments in the band. This was arguably the sharpest break in their sound to this day and a significant marker in terms of the band's reverence for Dutch instrumentalists Gore (the clue is in the name), whose repetitive riffs paved the way for how the guitar would be deployed in a post-everything future... Similarly conspicuous by their absence in the Bohren chronicles are the numerous instruments which they added to the mix. The introduction of choirs at least had a clear visual impact. Since Thorsten Benning left at the end of 2015, the band has continued as a trio, sharing shifts on the drums. A decrease in personnel was conversely accompanied by quantum leaps forward in the group's musical development - or more precisely, minor adjustments triggered major effects. The music of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore opens up remarkable rooms of association, from a warm burrow to a pristine secret lodge, from a dusky woodland tavern to a smoky quayside dive... These sinister crackling songs are invitations to secrete oneself in darkness." --Lars Brinkman.

CRAIG, CARL More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art 2LP
2016 repress.. Double LP version. "revolutionary art is not determined by its avantgarde content; nor its formal or technical trickery, its interpretation of reality or its verisimilitude, but, rather, by how much it revolutionizes our thinking and imagination; overturning our preconceptions, bias and prejudice and inspiring us to change ourselves and the world" --Jeff Sawell's text on the cover of More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art. Carl Craig's 1997 album features such timeless highlights as "Televised Green Smoke," which, after a short introduction, floats in on a haze, working through the classic blueprint of dance music -- the gradual addition of layered, complementary elements -- until it reaches a soft peak. "Red Lights" works a slow-grind breakbeat, cycling through the Paperclip People oscillator with strings in the background and an atmosphere reminiscent of The Godfather. "Dreamland" and "Butterfly" are closer to traditional Detroit productions, sharp and focused but rather melancholy; the former is a reach-out to the Britain-Detroit axis (As One, The Black Dog, B12), while the latter evokes the classic late '80s productions of Craig's friend Derrick May (who co-produced a later track on the album, "Frustration"). The Maurizio dub "Dominas" is nocturnal and unhurried, even despite the insistent beat and a female vocal sample repeating the title one word after another -- it's included here, though it was left off the original vinyl release. Another classic, "At Les," balances a few gently cascading chords with a rhythm program that keeps pushing the track forward and faster. Planet E and Rush Hour now present a remastered reissue of this techno classic.

PROLETARIAT, THE Soma Holiday CD
"In 1983, the release of The Proletariat's debut Soma Holiday was a shocker -- while American hardcore punk was becoming more generic, The Proletariat unleashed something strikingly original. The album's opening is a call to arms: the primitive, militaristic bass guitar and drums are sliced with razor-sharp guitar dissidence and vocals full of spit and bite. Avant-garde while remaining tuneful, their debut is considered one of the most brilliant albums to come out the early '80s American hardcore scene. The leafy suburbs of Southeastern Massachusetts, midway between Boston and Cape Cod, isn't where you would expect to find one of America's most revolutionary sounding and lyrically incendiary rock and roll bands, but that is where The Proletariat began. In 1980, straight from Apponequet High School, Richard Brown, Peter Bevilacqua, and Frank Michaels began pounding out noise, and soon they added high schooler Tommy McKnight. Inspired by The Buzzcocks, The Jam, PiL, and Wire, the young band tapped into the high energy hardcore punk swirling around and infused it with art-punk excitement. By the time that their classic debut hit, The Proletariat were being referred to as 'America's Gang of Four' and a more supercharged Pop Group. The intelligent anger of the band was a lifeline to many suburban American rejects, young people who knew that life under Reagan wasn't right. The sound of Soma Holiday not only sounds as fresh as ever, the thoughtful politics of its lyrics are just as relevant today in a world of drone strikes and Donald Trump, as they were when Oliver North and Leonid Brezhnev were household names."

ALRUNE ROD Alrune Rock 2LP
Shadoks Music present a reissue of the Danish and rare English version of Alrune Rock, the third album by Alrune Rod, originally released in 1972 and 1973 respectively. "Alrune Rod" is the name for the Danish mythical mandrake root, and also the name for one of the most popular hippie bands from Denmark who shared the stage with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin among other famous bands. Alrune Rock, their third album, came in two different versions: In 1972, with Danish vocals and in 1973, the rare English vocals version with slightly different mixes. For the English version, the band used the cover image of their first album, Alrune Rod (1969), but with heavy color changes and a sticker on the front. Still, many people - even in Denmark - got confused about two very different albums with the similar artwork. The release presented here uses the outside of the English version, each printed inner sleeve has the correct English/Danish cover. During March and April of 1972, Alrune Rod chose record producer Freddy Hansson to Rosenberg studios in Copenhagen. At this point, the band was a trio: Leif Roden Nielson, Ole Poulsen and Karsten Høst. This was the first studio recording for Ole. Karsten had played on the previous Hej Du album (1971) and Leif would appear on all of Alrune Rod's albums. Alrune Rock shows the group moving away from the violent and emotional drama as their main expression, seeking strength through a technically more competent music. Alrune Rock reached #3 on the "Top 10" charts of the Danish radio with more than 10,000 copies of sold. A true Danish hippie blockbuster. The English version of Alrune Rock was ready for the stores in in March of 1973. Alrune Rock is at both melodic and full of improvisations. It belongs to the top of the Danish underground scene among Young Flowers, Culpeper's Orchard, Burnin Red Ivanhoe, and Hurdy Gurdy, just to name a few. Their musical style is often described as a hybrid between The Grateful Dead and early Pink Floyd. A Danish rock classic. This reissue of Alrune Rock includes a rare poster, two-page insert with new liner notes and many unseen pictures from the period 1972-74. Comes as 180 gram vinyl in heavy gatefold sleeve and printed inner sleeves. Edition of 600 (numbered).

RAVJUNK Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner Igen. LP
Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner Igen. is the second album by Rävjunk, Scandinavia's best punk-psych band from Uppsala, Sweden. This second album includes tracks from rare singles and EPs released from 1979-1980, as well as completely unknown tracks picked by Peter Ericson (drums). Shadoks Music and Ericson were working on this album for weeks, and just before the album was done, Peter sadly passed away. This album is in memory of Peter Ericson, the great Swedish drummer and singer from Rävjunk. Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner Igen. is a great selection of songs influenced by the early pre-punk period ala Stooges/MC5, as well as the longer jamming guitar tracks of German kraut and space-rock bands. They also saw the heavy psych movement as a bright star. Several influences are evident, but it's all blended into something unique, as each member brought their own intriguing ingredients into the music. Guitarist Christer Lindahl was a Hendrix freak and singer Sören G. Andersson was deeply involved in the new punk rock movement. Bassist Lars-Eric was very much into Jack Bruce and Cream, while Peter, the drummer, was an avid fan of German bands such as Can and Guru Guru. The first album, originally released in 1977 was titled Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner (SHAD 185LP, 2016), which in Swedish means, "Uppsala City Hotel Is Burning". Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner Igen. is Swedish for "Uppsala City Hotel Is Burning Again". A great album from beginning to end, just as good as the first album for sure. Comes as 180 gram "transparent yellow" vinyl, in a heavy sleeve and with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered).

MOONLIGHT The Edge (Modern Dance In The Twilight Zone) LP
Shadoks Music present a reissue of Moonlight's The Edge (Modern Dance In The Twilight Zone), originally released in 1978. All the members of Moonlight came from the same town of Turku, located in the south west of Finland. They met each other at school in the mid '70s. Their ambition was more to focus on making their own music and sing in English which was not the common in Finland at the time. Kim Trapp and Anders (Andy) Winter were the actual composers and Björn (Bob) Wasenius made the lyrics. Paul Kanerva helped out with both from time-to-time. Their musical influences were Steely Dan, Procol Harum, Santana, Pink Floyd, along with Ian Dury and Blondie. They had a large scale of music they liked and listened to, playing music by Uriah Heep and Led Zeppelin before composing their own pieces. Their music was, as a result of a large scale of interest, some kind of mixture of psychedelic/progressive rock and melodic softer music. Moonlight was active between mid '70s and 1979. They got a record deal in Finland with Top Hits and released this album in 1978. For fans of Finnish bands such as Hamlet, Wigwam, Nimbus and Session. Originals are very rare. Personnel: Kim Trapp - keyboards (Hammond, Leslie, Korg, Minimoog); Björn (Bob) Wasenius - drums, vocals. Paul Kanerva - bass; Anders (Andy) Winter - guitar, vocals. Comes in a heavy sleeve, as 180 gram vinyl and with a two-page insert. Edition of 400 (numbered).

EMERSON, AVALON Narcissus In Retrograde 12"
Avalon Emerson's Narcissus In Retrograde, explores four different styles, from symphonic showstoppers to broken acid. "Natural Impasse" ferries massive melodic themes through a network of emotive capillaries, underpinned by charging drums. "Dystopian Daddy" dons a theatrical flair with costume-changing arpeggiators and digital brass beef that command attention. The B side takes a more menacing turn with "Why Does It Hurt", the outright techno achievement, and the snarling closer "Groundwater". Ethereal vocals on the former punctuate kicks and growls, and on "Groundwater", a crucible of fucked breaks and acid cut a ravine through off-staccato hats and a sample swamp.

BLESSED INITIATIVE Blessed Initiative LP
LP version. Blessed Initiative is a project by Yair Elazar Glotman which suggests a dissonant, coexistent state of extreme highs and lows. This self-titled album attempts to articulate a mental state of simultaneity, in which equilibrium is fleeting, fragile, and its scarcity is embraced. Opposite states coincide, contrast, and reflect, creating moments of uncertainty and insecurity. Absurdity, and at times even bliss, are possible results in the attempt to channel anxiety into creative forces rather than debilitating ones. In an environment where personas are the sums of the images they project, sounds are also no longer evidence of invention but of ever-changing combination, curation, and editing. The final persona is a sum of the chosen and the deleted, as well as what may be projected from outside, creating a confusing and conflicted self. The sounds collected here are attempts to compose on these uncertain grounds, and to reflect the anxiety released in all these sources meeting and interaction. As a singular project, Blessed Initiative stops to comment on the conditions that inform Glotman's composition before and after it, and to acknowledge it as a non-linear, ongoing process. The focus on process and uncertainty is apparent in the album's phrasing, re-articulation and cycles of repetition and deviation. The pieces were composed from sounds generated on the KYMA system, personal foley recordings, as well as tape manipulations techniques. Minor sounds on major scales and micro-tonal tuning suggest an ambiguous harmonic sphere. These were then integrated within idiosyncratic rhythmic structures, at times integrating real spaces and resonating bodies, as reverb and augmented echo chambers. Concrete, almost-recognizable organic sounds contrast with these abstract spaces and connect them to tactile experiences. These textures and structures are a palette that reforms and deforms as it cycles throughout the album. The photographic series "Relax (blue)", 2004, by the artist Josephine Pryde was chosen for the album's cover. The two images represent a closed cycle of energy and unfulfilled release. Yair Elazar Glotman is a classically trained musician and sound artist based in Berlin whose previous works on Subtext include the LP Études (SUB 013LP, 2015) and a collaboration with James Ginzburg titled Nimbes (SUB 012EP, 2014).

DNA A Taste Of DNA 12"
"New York's DNA have had a massive effect on alternative/indie rock around the world, despite the trio never releasing a full-length studio album during their four year tenure (1978-82). Various groups citing them as an influence have included Sonic Youth, Boredoms, Big Black and Blonde Redhead (the latter taking their name from DNA's most-famous song). While the band's explosive live performances captivated audiences, extant recordings captured DNA's dynamic sound and savage economy in songwriting. Originally released in 1981, A Taste Of DNA remains a primary source for No Wave archaeologists. Singer/guitarist Arto Lindsay and drummer Ikue Mori are joined by bassist and Pere Ubu founding-member Tim Wright. Across the EP's six anti-epic tracks, the band charges forward with jagged guitars and dislocated grooves, while Lindsay's guttural screams create a thoroughly personal semantics. As Marc Masters writes in the liner notes, 'A Taste Of DNA has a kind of sum-of-parts insanity, wherein every musical element sounds conventionally off, like puzzle pieces purposefully jammed together at the wrong ends.' This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of The Contortions' Buy and Red Crayola's The Parable Of Arable Land."

After the highly acclaimed first part of Wehbba's outstanding Systematic Shades series (SYST 107EP, 2015), it's finally time for the second volume. Once again, he provides three hybrids of straight and functional tracks, including that certain touch of something you either have or don´t. "Moonrise" is reminiscent of the good old early times of techno when the MPC-60 was the master of the groovy rhythms and "Polychrome" and "The Persistence Of Memory" underline how authentic and rough Wehbba can be in creating his techy tracks.

HIEROGLYPHIC BEING This Isn't Your Typical 90's Era Techno/IDM Revisionist View 12"
Drawing on the energy and spirituality of Sun Ra, Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, conducts his machines to create a raw, pulsating and meditative work that focused as much on the dancefloor as on the synapses. He returns to Technicolour to pay homage Chicago's nascent and fertile electronic music scene in the '90s. Fiercely visceral and channeling the same "rhythmic cubist" approach, "This Is 4 The Rave Bangers" and "HOME 95" are offered as "reinterpretations or a revisionist's retrospective of the early '90s electronic music based in Chicago during the rise of rave culture from a sonic anthropological narrative".

Working with a new partner, Cimm, their unique take on music at 140bpm is the result. The 12" leads off with "Split Minds" a combination of distorted 808's and sub bass, and nimble percussion work fuels the track's half-time stomp. The minimal "Redshift" focuses on atmospherics and trickles hints of melodies. Building slowly over waves of sub bass, vocal snippets weave in-and-out of the track creating a sense of space and clarity.

BANJAW, YISHAK Love Songs Vol. 2 LP
LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Includes printed insert and download code. Ethiopian minimal wave from 1986. Teranga Beat presents Yishak Banjaw's first international release. Yishak Banjaw is a composer and keyboard player from Addis Ababa known to his country for his innovative compositions and unique sound. His ability to transform traditional Ethiopian songs into spacey minimal-wave gems creates an ultra-hypnotic and psychedelic atmosphere. Love Songs Vol. 2 was recorded in 1986 at Yishak's house, while he was working for the Police Band in Eritrea. It was released by an Eritrean label on cassette and was also distributed in Ethiopia. However, due to the shaky political situation, Yishak was forbidden to travel anywhere outside his country, including Ethiopia. Consequently, Love Songs Vol. 2 remained a very obscure and neglected musical experiment, until now. Yishak has released seven albums on cassette but, unlike many Ethiopian musicians, he has never managed to reach a wider and international audience. On this album, Yishak Banjaw chose to play everything on a small Casio PT, "a keyboard for kids" as he proudly mentions. He recorded the whole album live, directly to his tape recorder. Although his main instrument was a Godwin keyboard, he actually preferred to rent the Casio from a friend, as he was blown away by the way it sounded. This choice alone reveals a genuine talent that dared to go beyond what his colleagues were doing at that time.

RAINBOW ARABIA L.A. Heartbreak CD
Arriving three years since their mesmerizing new age-tinted synth-pop offering F.M. Sushi (TNP 008CD/LP, 2013) Rainbow Arabia's third full-length album L.A. Heartbreak wades through familiar neon waters but even more deliberately. Rainbow Arabia keep the focus on what distinguishes them from the sea of electronic pop acts out there, Danny Preston's adventurously exquisite arrangements, sturdy songcraft, and Tiffany Preston's potent vocal delivery. L.A. Heartbreak's dreamy, melodic machine pop takes cues from Tangerine Dream, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Giorgio Moroder, Jan Hammer - confidently painting with bolder strokes with leaner, brighter production and infectious hooks evoking '80s radio pop that skew more towards Madonna and Cyndi Lauper rather than darker post-punk influences referenced on Rainbow Arabia's earlier albums. Recorded at home in Los Angeles, L.A. Heartbreak was born out of a tumultuous time for the duo with lyrical themes waxing on failing relationships, mortality, and change. In the three years since F.M. Sushi, the couple have been co-running the left-field leaning electronic label Time No Place, while slowly piecing together songs for their third album, inspired by the diverse selection of electronic and dance music scenes in Los Angeles they are ingrained in. However, after many arduous months of recording, further exacerbating the fracture in their musical partnership and marriage, that album was scrapped. They opted to instead start new and record something more direct and honest. The resulting nine songs on L.A. Heartbreak benefit from the duo's best instincts. By deciding to write and record the album quickly, a sense of immediacy shines within this vital collection of prismatic synth-pop.

TRISTANO, FRANCESCO Surface Tension 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Pianist and composer, Francesco Tristano, joins forces with one of the godfathers of Detroit techno Derrick May on Surface Tension. Described by the man himself as his "most techno and synth-based project yet," the eight-track effort is both a celebration of electronic instrumentation and the first record Derrick May has worked extensively on for the better part of two decades. "I had to lure him into my studio," Tristano says of May with a smile, "he was like Alice in Wonderland when he saw the synthesizers." Originally developed as a way create new material for Tristano's p:anorig project - a unique live set-up debuted at Barcelona's Sónar festival - Surface Tension grew into a project in its own right. With an instrumentation of analog, digital, classic and modern gear - ranging from Prophets to Moogs, to Rolands and Yamahas - at his and May's disposal, Tristano has aimed to keep processing to a minimum. The pair are not just using these synths, they're paying tribute to them, honoring their rich, recognizable sound palettes. The result is an album that feels, at once, nostalgic and fresh; that feels like an old friend, but one who never ceases to surprise. From the ambient vision of "Esoteric Thing", drifting along to the sound of birdsong, to more beat-centric pieces such as "The Mentor" and the quirky "Xokolade", the equipment, and the love it's been treated with, shines through. Both Tristano and May's individual presences are obvious too, yet work in a way so complimentary to each other as to blur the lines at which they cross. "Pacific FM" is a lesson in uplifting techno, keys fluttering over pad-foot bass; the futuristic Detroit dance of "In Da Minor" is undercut by eerie, unpredictable glass synth-work; "Rocco's Bounce" is free-form jazz tugged into line by structured four-to-the-floor; there's even an itchy, jittering, Decca Records-sanctioned remix of Japanese pianist and general Renaissance man, Ryuichi Sakamoto's classic "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence". Those hoping for a Francesco Tristano piano album: be duly warned. "The piano is there, but it's more like the shadow of the piano. We don't have the mass of that sound, it's more like the reminiscence of that sound," says Tristano. It gives Surface Tension the aforementioned significance. Tristano hasn't abandoned his roots, yet has simultaneously transcended what it means to be a pianist in the 21st century.

KURZMANN/MATS GUSTAFSSON, CHRISTOF Falling And Five Other Failings CD
Mats Gustafsson plays slide, tenor, baritone, bass saxophones. Christof Kurzmann uses special ppooll software and voice, live processing. Recorded, mixed & mastered at Garnison 7, Vienna by Martin Siewert. Artwork by Jimmy Draht. Liner notes by Ken Vandermark. Limited vinyl edition of 300 with screen-printed covers. Ken Vandermark, from the liner notes: "On the surface, its fundamental components seem to come from the 20th century: the saxophone (invented in 1846, but not coming to the fore until jazz and Coleman Hawkins took a hold of it), the laptop computer (initially developed around 1980), and tape music (first started around 1950). But when examining the materials it becomes quickly apparent that, though the 'machines' may belong to the previous century, the methodologies applied to them do not. The six pieces on this album began as open improvisations digitally recorded at Martin Siewert's studio in Vienna, Austria. A section of each improvisation that was considered most successful from a musical standpoint was 'spliced out' and kept as a composition - the studio was used as a means to produce a performance rather than to strictly document, not usually the case when recording improvised music. Mats Gustafsson (who also plays keyboard here) has added to the range of extended techniques for saxophones instigated in the 1970s, by musicians like Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, Roscoe Mitchell, Trevor Watts, Steve Lacy, and Peter Brötzmann. He's developed these through his unique approach to the instruments, which is often built upon phrasing power that can stand up to rhythmic frameworks and volume that frequently have little to do with the origins of improvised music. In many cases, the grooves explored on this collection of recordings are about pulse, but not the rhythmic feel of jazz, nor the timing of late 20th century free improvisation. And as Christof Kurzmann (who also sings here) explained to me, the instrument he plays is not the laptop, but the software that he runs on it, called ppooll and refined by Klaus Filip and Arnold Habirl in [2015??]... ppooll gives Christof nearly infinite manufacturing possibilities for sound - from creating new material that's used later in performance, to processing sonic events in real time. The elements of construction used to make this album and the resulting music all belong to this century, to this period."

VA Tropical Britxotica! Polynesian Pop And Placid Jazz From The Wild British Isles! LP
The incredible follow-up to the successful Britxotica! (JBH 057LP, 2015) and Britxotica Goes East! (JBH 059LP, 2016) LPs. This time, Jonny Trunk and the legendary DJ Martin Green take the listener to a magical musical place full of tropical delights - with songs of heatwaves, coral reefs, Haitian rituals and treasure islands, not forgetting the stormy seas and the odd hurricane. 16 tracks in all from a post-war era of musical adventure, this is Britxotica at its very hottest, most exotic and very best - incredible, rare, lost and exotic music from the wild British isles. Britxotica! (pronounced "Britzotica") neatly describes an odd and yet undocumented pre-Beatles British musical scene where famed UK composers, as well as unknown singers and bandleaders, threw convention on holiday and went wild. For part three of the Britxotica series, the compilation goes to the South Seas for a musical adventure of stormy seas, Hawaiian honeymoons, spooky rituals, dreamy walks through mango groves and a few sips from the juicy coconut. But this is more than just exotic music, the talent here is breathtaking: Kenny Graham, George Melley, Ted Heath, Malcolm Lockyer, Edmundo Ros and more -legendary artists adventuring into unknown territory with incredible results. There are songs and instrumentals here to charm and even beguile - there's even an amazing British cover of "Quite Village" - when did you ever hear one of those? This is wonderfully obscure music, and only Trunk records could compile and package such a compilation of bizarre and super rare British music so superbly. This all new compilation of British treasures is like no other, and will have you booking your ticket to the South Seas for Christmas. Featuring: Lucille Mapp, Frank Weir, The Sound Of Ed White, Ron Goodwin, Geoff Love, Marion Ryan, Dick Katz, International 'Pops' All Stars, Johnny Gentle, Betty Smith And The Malcolm Lockyer Group, Martinas And His Music and Norrie Paramor. Single LP on standard black wax.

BLONDE ON BLONDE Rebirth LP
First official vinyl reissue of Blonde On Blonde's second album Rebirth, originally released in 1970. It would take two lives to listen to the entire discography of all the prog-psych UK bands from the late '60s to early '70s. Funny enough, some of them just needed a two to four year career to record a bunch of LPs and make musical history, underground history anyway. Although Blonde On Blonde achieved only modest commercial success, their second album, Rebirth, is an exquisite piece of progressive rock that should not remain under the radar to those into melodic progressive rock. By the end of 1969 they had just signed a new contract with Ember Records to follow their debut and unsuccessful album Contrasts (1969). A new vocalist, David Thomas, had just joined the band and their live sound was tight and heavy. They toured non-stop across London's hippest clubs and shared bills with artists such as Georgie Fame, Deep Purple, Genesis and Alan Price. But their solid and raw playing also tried to encompass other more subtle sounds in the recording studio, resulting in a well balanced mix of dramatic singing and progressive instrumental backgrounds. "Colour Questions" echoes the outstanding power shown by the band on stage while "Broken Hours", the first song ever written by David Thomas, shows their more melodic and balanced side without losing any energy. "November" and "Time Is Passing" add some elements of folky psychedelia to the band's recipe, undoubtedly a focused and magic body of music that stays strong until the very last note on the epic closing track "You'll Never Know Me / Release". Rebirth is a perfectly balanced mix of powerful singing and progressive instrumental passages which also leaves room for the band's melodic, folky and psychedelic elements to shine. Presented in a facsimile gatefold sleeve and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

WIRTZ ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS, THE MARK Latin A Go-Go LP
Vinilisssimo present the first vinyl reissue of The Mark Wirtz Orchestra And Chorus's Latin A Go-Go, originally released in 1966. Mark Wirtz's most famous output was recorded during the mid/late '60s when he was working as an in-house producer for EMI at Abbey Road. His Mood Mosaic LP (1967) and the unfinished concept album A Teenage Opera (a single off this LP, "Grocer Jack", was actually released in 1967) provided Wirtz with an iconic status among easy listening collectors. However, his lesser known 1966 album Latin A Go-Go is the one to have if you aim to hit the dancefloor. The title of this album may not be very original but it perfectly describes the music inside. Think of wild cocktail parties in sunny California in the mid-60s, cosmopolitan hotel lounges in Copacabana or the hippest clubs in swinging London and you'll get a picture of what the perfect scenario for playing this LP looks like. However, it seems that only a few people needed this vibe in their average lives when the record was originally released in the UK, Netherlands and Spain (found under different titles and cover art) and copies have vanished over the years. 50 years after its release, Vinilisssimo reissues this easy listening/Latin masterpiece which includes just about every classic hit you could expect: "Watermelon Man", "Comin' Home, Baby", "Yeh, Yeh". It also features the likes of Barbara Moore, from the legendary library music album Vocal Shades And Tones (1972), on chorus vocals, Jim Sullivan (Lord Sitar) on guitar and the prolific session player, Vic Flick. BOND + BROWN Two Heads Are Better Than One LP
Vinilisssimo present the first vinyl reissue of Graham Bond and Pete Brown's Two Heads Are Better Than One, originally released in 1972. Graham Bond and Pete Brown need little introduction. Bond was a key figure of the early British jazz and R&B scenes. His Graham Bond Organisation recorded several albums and the band's members (Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, John McLaughlin and Dick Heckstall-Smith) achieved massive fame in their later careers. Pete Brown was a Cream/Jack Bruce collaborator. After being thrown out of his own band, Pete Brown & His Battered Ornaments, he formed another group: Piblokto! Dangerous habits, mental health issues and little commercial success seriously affected their careers on the verge of the '70s and a series of unfortunate events saw Graham Bond and Pete Brown finding themselves in limbo. They decided to team up for a new band project, resulting in the recording of Two Heads Are Better Than One in 1972. The album includes songs like "Lost Tribe" and "Looking For Time", both an attempt to express the fact that Pete and Graham were now on the outside of the rock scene in the early '70s, and "Ig The Pig", a dedication to a dubious record label head after the band found out their fee was not going to end in their bank account. Two Heads Are Better Than One is a brilliant multi-genre crossover celebration: bluesy rock with a funky twist and jazzy prog passages. It was Graham Bond's last album and probably his best work. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

DELUXX FOLK IMPLOSION Deluxx Folk Implosion LP
Deluxx is Bob Fay (Sebadoh) and Mark Perretta; Folk Implosion were Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh) and John Davis. The first collaboration between the four musicians was at a show in Providence, Rhode Island under the name The John Davis Folk Implosion. The "band" played a combination of off-the-cuff compositions John and Lou had hastily recorded a few months before and songs that would be later re-recorded by Sebadoh on Bakesale (1994). The show and the jams that followed solidified the collaboration. Deluxx Folk Implosion became its own entity, quickly morphing into an aggressive garage punk outfit: Nonsensical lyrics over twin guitar attacks and pounding drums rounding it out perfectly. Maybe it was the pressures surrounding the popularity of Sebadoh and Folk Implosion that made DFI a unique opportunity to focus on the immediate pleasures of a 90-second structured tantrum. Maybe DFI wanted to seize the moment, wear black turtlenecks and affect the pose of a forgotten '66 garage band. Maybe DFI just wanted to combine new wave angles, heavy metal chunks and punk scree. Fueled by headache, weed and the introduction of higher alcohol content beers, DFI push the levels of absurdity in the songs and energy in the delivery. After Folk Implosion's unexpected radio hit "Natural One" (1995), the Deluxx Folk Implosion played a handful of high profile shows in support of the record, since it was too much for John and Lou. DFI had two recording sessions. The first is represented in its entirety on this LP - 13 songs, many written as they were recorded in 1994. The second session was a single song re-recording of "Daddy Never Understood" that was included on the Kids soundtrack (1995). A 7" with some tunes from the initial session was released at the time. The reels for the 13 song session languished in Lou's basements and attics for 20 years. When Mark Perretta suggested a proper release, the reel tapes were restored and remixed (with Justin Pizzoferrato and Bob Fay at the controls).
