SPECTRUM Forever Alien 2LP
"When Spacemen 3 -- the seminal, drone-indulgent English psych duo comprised of Peter Kember and Jason Pierce -- split in 1991, Pierce shuffled off to acclaim in Spiritualized. Meanwhile, Kember charted a less predictable course. As Sonic Boom, he released Spectrum in 1990, then, after taking a liking to that handle, released Soul Kill (Glide Divide) as Spectrum in 1992. Kemper alternated between those monikers and Experimental Audio Research (E.A.R.) throughout the 1990s, building a rich, probing catalog of synth and electronic explorations of which 1997's Forever Alien is an undeniable high point. With theremin, vocoder, and an array of modular analog synthesizers (depicted lovingly in the cover art) Kemper, along with Alf Hardy and Pete Bassman, fused kosmische abstraction and the pulsation of minimalist composition to more traditional psych elements epitomized by early Pink Floyd. Landing between the unfettered experiments of E.A.R. and Spacemen 3's songcraft ('How Does it Feel?' is scarily reimagined), Kemper crafts unnerving atmosphere on the title track and an enduring catalog high point on the consummate opener, 'Feels Like I'm Slipping Away.' Forever Alien leaves no doubts about the reasons for Kemper's sought-after production today (he played a vital role for Animal Collective and sculpted Panda Bear's most recent album) -- nor the essential status of his post- Spacemen 3 output."

CARRION, ULISES Dear Reader. Don't Read CD/BOOK
Key figure in Mexican conceptual art, Ulises Carrión was an artist, editor, curator, and theorist of the post-1960s international artistic avant-garde. Dear Reader. Don't Read, an A4-size, 272-page book with CD, issued in collaboration with the Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid within the context of Carrion large retrospective, is focused on Ulises Carrión's personal and groundbreaking approach, managing to illustrate all aspects of his artistic and intellectual work. This includes books, magazines, videos, films, sound pieces, mail art, public projects, and performances, along with Carrión's initiatives as curator, editor, distributor, lecturer, archivist, art theorist, and writer. It is a significant body of original work structured to place a spotlight on every facet of his production. Without losing sight of the unclassifiable nature of his oeuvre, this book emphasizes Ulises Carrión's constant search for new cultural strategies and the extent to which his projects were determined by two fundamental themes: structure and language. These represent artistic guidelines influenced by a literary education, which he invariably struggled against, and are pervasive in his work. This duality corresponds to the exhibition title Dear Reader. Don't Read which illustrates his ambiguous relation to literature, a recurring theme in his work. Due to his interest in new art forms and innovative trends, Carrión actively participated in most of the artistic disciplines of his time. He co-founded the independent artist-run space In-Out Center in Amsterdam and founded the legendary bookshop-gallery Other Books and So (1975-79), the first of its kind dedicated to the presentation, production, and distribution of publications that were no longer literary texts nor about art, but rather books that were art or, as Carrión himself called them, "non-books, anti-books, pseudo books, quasi books, concrete books, visual books, conceptual books, structural books, project books, statement books, instruction books". Along with his artistic activities, Ulises Carrión developed a wide range of theoretical work having a great influence on young visual artists. It is fascinating to see that Ulises Carrión's theories are seemingly precursors to more recent art theories of the twenty-first-century digital world. During his most creative artistic period, he participated in the international mail art network which Carrión considered a kind of guerilla strategy.

KAC, EDUARDO Porneia LP
Previously un-issued recordings from the Porn Art Movement (1980-1982), including five performances recorded live on Ipanema Beach in 1982, as well as a selection of previously unheard studio recordings of Eduardo Kac yell-poems. Kac fused existing coarse and curse words with parts of words, neologisms, salacious buffoonery, the anti-normative scribblings of toilet-wall graffiti, commonplaces, blasphemy, expletives, agrammatisms, incorrect orthography, slangy expressions, lexical exorbitance, general obscenities, the gross and the grotesque, into a new whole. His use of stigmatizing words in these Porn-poems transformed them from denigrating to empowering, through political critique and defiance. The LP also includes the "Manifesto Pornô" (1980) and four recordings of "Flatographic Poems" from 1982, in which Kac uses the flatus as a compositional unit and the mellifluous flow as material. "Flatographic Poems" have visual scores - one of which can be seen on the cover - for metabolic performances that combine meticulous precision with gaseous explosiveness of scatological resonance. Demanding a high level of self-mastery on the part of the performer, this anal poetry was the only series of works produced in the movement to literally explore the internal side of the body. Includes an LP-size 40-page full-color book with full documentation on the Porn Art Movement. Edition of 270.

JAM MONEY A Gathering Kind LP
Jam Money is the shared musical vision of Kevin Cormack and Mathew Fowler. Mathew (Bons) and Kevin (Half Cousin, Harry Deerness) first began collaborating as part of the Blank Tape Spillage Fete, an ongoing collective project of art and music which focuses on the creation and perpetuation of small DIY exhibitions, related events and limited releases that celebrates the hobbyist nature of home recording. Jam Money revolves around a passion for the simple and sometimes restrictive nature of four-track cassette recording. Using old half-broken guitars, clarinets, charity shop keyboards, toys, family heirlooms, zithers, home-made percussion, and household objects a shared dialog appears, involving both mark making and musical mishaps, allowing the makers to be carried along as the music finds its own way. Genre definitions melt away in Jam Money's music as ambient dissolves into lo-fi rock, noise into fragile, naive classroom melodies. Creativity beyond easy categorization. The first recordings titled Blowing Stones were self-released in 2014. The cover and insert artwork for this record featured abstract paintings by the artist Aimée Henderson whose work and process is a great influence on their music. Having played gigs alongside kindred spirits National Bedtime and Plinth, the tail end of 2015 saw the band travel to Germany to play with The Notwist and Le Millipede for a series of "Alien Disko" nights organized by Alien Transistor, a label with a shared kinship of both the weird and wonderful. A Gathering Kind is the second album by Jam Money: a journey of sound and color, subliminal images and narrative. The roots of this collection found Fowler and Cormack using an earthier, more instinctive language, making it a rougher-edged sibling to their other recordings, with parallels to the home-spun worlds of Flaming Tunes, Pumice, Maher Shalal Hash Baz and World Standard. Henderson's artwork features again, both paintings and music forming a collective language of dream-like adventure. Poignant and exploratory. Melting together acoustic and electronic elements, the narrative throughout is one of a ghostly world heading for winter. A firm fan favorite Stephen Pastel on Blowing Stones: "Created in question and answer form, their songs exist like little sculptures - wayward and peaceful, sometimes whirring into automatic life under the pair's combined attention." Includes a booklet and a download code. Edition of 300.

URBAN HOMES Jams 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Includes download code. Over the course of a staggering 78 minutes, big things happen on Jams, Urban Homes's monumental sophomore album. The 13 songs on Jams go back to recordings of years of communal, MIDI- and hardware-based jam sessions which, over three years, were painstakingly discarded, condensed, reconstructed and provided with occasional guest vocals by Hanitra Wagner (Oracles, Die Heiterkeit). On Jams, Benjamin Riedl, Stephan Weinand and Oliver Bersin explore a history of dance music that is retraced in the 13 tracks. The seemingly clear cut references in titles such as "Verdub Lang Her (Stripped Down Killer Dub Jam)", "Blue Note Jam" or "As High Acid Can Get (Acid Jam)", however, are not to be taken as letters of intent, but - despite the playful handling of genre conventions and clichés - as homages to the immaterial architecture of the club: the atmosphere, the vibe, the jam. In its rich texture, the dramatic composition of Jams reconstructs the resonance space of an excessive, foggy, and steamy night at the club, thereby approaching its point of interest. Despite the clear club compatibility (each of the 13 tracks will work on a dancefloor worth its salt), Urban Homes do not shy away from sticky harmonic arrangements and melodies that are bound to be called "pop". They do however, and this is one of the points of this great album, avoid any overarching narrative of organic-ness or authenticity which might refer the record to a context of "indie" music. Unlike the acclaimed and award-winning debut Centres (2013), which wore the socialization of the (previously four) Urban Homes on its sleeve, this is rootless, nomadic music that is in the most beautiful sense "out there". So far out there, in fact, that gurus such as Pharaoh Sanders or Sun Ra can be made out through the ever-present fog (see titles such as "4/20 Jam" or "Summer Rolls (Midnight Munchies Jam)" for reference). What seems so effortless, casual and relaxed over the entire run time, is in fact merely evidence of the band's musical mastery and precision. Mixed by Jan-Philipp Janzen (Von Spar) at Dumbo Studios. Mastered by Cem Oral at Jammin Masters. Sonja Deffner (Die Heiterkeit, Jason & Theodor) is responsible for the stunning artwork.

SUN RA & HIS SOLAR ARKESTRA I Roam The Cosmos LP
Art Yard continues their voyage into the omniverse of unreleased Sun Ra tapes with I Roam The Cosmos, an unreleased, previously unheard 1972 live session recorded at Slug's Saloon in New York. Fronting a stellar 18-piece incarnation of the Arkestra, I Roam The Cosmos finds Sun Ra taking the listener on a poetic journey to the outer limits of planetary awareness. While the captain of the space-ship declaims his message with Arkestra vocalist June Tyson as co-pilot, the Arkestra voyage into the solar centers of esoteric astro-black knowledge aboard a comet-trail jam on "Discipline 27-II". As current Arkestra member Knoel Scott observes in his liner notes, "Sun Ra was a teacher, come down to earth to spread the enlightenment of the ancients and advance the alter-destiny of humankind. This earth was not his home: he was here to wake the sleepers, and to make sure no-one would forget his message. The universe sent him to converse with us, and I Roam The Cosmos is another unique message from Saturn, delivered for tomorrow's world by Art Yard Records." Liner notes by Knoel Scott and Irwin Chusid. Limited 180 gram vinyl pressing with tip on sleeve.

BOCKSRUCKER Tarot 12"
New entrant to the Bare Hands stable, Bocksrucker delivers a potent three tracker, adding another layer to the label's discography. Bocksrucker, spearheading the label's fling with slower, and off-kilter sounds, showcases a warped sense of straightness and furtive percussion on "Card XIII". The B side however, starts with the docile track "Peace Of Mind", clocking the dancefloor to sudden bursts of rim-shots, yet leaving space for subtle droning harmonics. Odd stepper, "Assisted Suicide" concludes the EP, offering an electro touch on a Roland flavored drum workout.

KENNEY & EYVIND KANG, JESSIKA Reverse Tree LP
Black Truffle present Reverse Tree, the new LP from the acclaimed duo of Eyvind Kang and Jessika Kenney. The two are musicians who have established themselves as powerful voices working at a unique intersection of contemporary composition, improvisation, and Asian traditional music forms. Either individually or as a pair, they have worked in contexts ranging from performances of traditional Persian and Javanese music to collaborations with Sunn O))), but their work together as a duo, on The Face Of The Earth (2012) and Aestuarium (SOMA 002LP, 2011), most clearly represents the central concerns of their diverse practices: a music of the inner life of sound, demanding ritualistic focus and promising heightened sensations. On Reverse Tree, the duo expand their work together into the realm of the chamber ensemble, presenting two side-long works that feature Kenney's voice and Kang's viola alongside a multitude of other instrumentalists. Kang's "Thoughts On Being Exiled To The Frontier, For Lord Wei", inspired by a text by the Tang dynasty poet Hsueh T'ao, features an all-star international ensemble: Kang, Kenney, maverick Israeli conductor Ilan Volkov on violin, Icelandic cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, and guitarists Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley. The piece is primarily composed of irregular patterns of pizzicato notes and guitar harmonics, gently falling in and out of sync and providing a subtly unstable support for Kenney's voice, which at times is reminiscent of Michiko Hirayama's classic performances of Scelsi. Drawing on 20th century instrumental techniques, alternate tuning systems, non-western music and the experience of nature, the piece opens a space both serene and subtly uneasy. Kenney's "Elm" features Kenney and vocalist Nova Ruth (Filastine, Twin Sista) alongside an ensemble of strings and Seattle's Gamelan Pacifica, performing on Javanese instruments tuned to the slendro scale. An uncanny timbre created by bowing the keys of the Gamelan's instruments, supported by bowed harmonics from the strings, is heard consistently throughout the piece. After a long introductory section in which this harmonic cloud slowly descends from shimmering high notes to rumbling bass, the vocalists enter, singing a slow and stately setting of a 19th century Surakarta poem (attributed to Mangkunegara IV). The poem deals with the idea of a form of knowledge achieved through deeds, as a practice and state of the heart. Presented in a deluxe sleeve designed by Stephen O'Malley; Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker; Cut at 45rpm for maximum fidelity.

AIKEN & FUTURE 2000, TONY Liberation CD
"In the mid-1970s Tony Aiken and Future 2000's funky brand of R&B meets dance with a clear influence of Caribbean and Afro-beat found an audience in New York despite the disco dominance of the day. Their strong arrangements, pulsating beats, and unique orchestrations made them underground darlings. So much so that 1976's Unity: Sing It, Shout It is considered a joyous, booty-shaking classic to this day. Aiken has since gone on to work with artists such as Dennis Brown, Frankie Paul, Chosen Few, and many more. What fewer people know is that Aiken is playing to this day, with the line-up behind him now called Future. On Liberation Aiken and the group kick it through 10 tight-snared, lush horn lined, roots reggae cuts reminiscent of the best the genre has to offer."

FRUSTRATION Empires Of Shame LP
LP version. Includes download code. Frustration, the caring big brothers of the French indie scene, are closely intertwined with Born Bad's rise to fame. Their pathway in itself is symbolic: hailing from the garage closed circuit from the '90s, they gave up the tattoos and brilliantine rock to try something different - at the crossroads of punk and cold wave, of Métal Urbain, Killing Joke and Joy Division. The five fellows, not particularly renowned for their technical skills, found themselves invested with a peculiar grace, becoming avant-gardist just as they were entering their forties, and showing the way to a whole generation of bands that suddenly became aware that it was possible. Empires Of Shames is the third album by Frustration. They crushed mountain chains on Relax (BORNBAD 008LP, 2008), uncovered new continents and rainforests with Uncivilized (BORNBAD 046CD/LP, 2012), so it's only logical they now project to terraform Mars planet with this album that celebrates their return to a cold hostility that echoes the one of punks going by the name of a Polish capital city (Warsaw). "Dreams, Law, Rights And Duties", "Just Wanna Hide" and "Excess" are punches in the knees as signs of welcome from Fabrice, whose voice wanders from a Curtis-like spleen to a cockney spit. If "Arrows Of Love" sounds like the album's break, this mesmerizing Smiths-like ballad turns into a proletarian anthem, one of the peaks on the album. "Mother Earth In Rags" will undoubtedly be a hit, given its harangue as baroque and dramatic as a speech from Lenin; "Cause You Runaway" shows that the lads have also listened to James Murphy; and "No Place" is a synth-punk-noise gem that will generate one hell of a pogo at the end of their next concert. Frustration is now this fully grown-up lion that has no intention of ending up as a bedside rug. This is the only reason why we agree to give in to music, this intrusive thing that never asks for our advice. The rest is just a background noise of conceited babbling saturating the feed of our souls.

GASC, JULIEN Kiss Me, You Fool! LP
LP version. Comes with printed under-sleeve and a download code. Following the inenarrable Cerf, Biche et Faon (BORNBAD 060LP), Julien Gasc (Aquaserge, Stereolab) delivers Kiss Me, You Fool!. Kiss Me, You Fool! leads the listener far away, into swarms of sound and sentimental, twisted tales, on a quest for illumination that traverses the rich palette of human passions. The title was taken from a graffiti discovered in the ladies toilets of a London pub. It is through this peephole that you can consider, like a voyeur, the paradoxical complexity of this album: At once witty, noble and degenerate, Julien struts his way through it with all the nonchalance of a night-owl dandy. A troubadour of modern times, he sings of unresolved love, self-mockery, the trivialities of daily life and the search for the absolute. The fruit of an exceptional artistic collaboration - featuring Laëtitia Sadier (Stereolab), John Linger (Neils Children), Cathy Lucas (The Oscillation, Vanishing Twin) and Joe Watson - this contrasting, emotional and heterogeneous album nonetheless forms a whole. Here, mirror plays, surrealistic songs and decadent poems unfold elegantly, seductive in their effortlessness. Countering the current norms, Kiss Me, You Fool! cultivates its powerful identity far from today's musical cliques and fads.

BLACK MERLIN Control 12"
George Thompson, aka Black Merlin, continues to push his retro-aggressive style forward with his new Control. The first two cuts, "Control" and "Secondo", capture the neurotic, mechanical energy of a fantasy after-hours in a weapons factory with production evoking the most dancefloor forward moments of Front 242. The last two tracks discard the club's restraints for excursions into sound and narrative. "Blindfold" is a nightmarish soundtrack to automated torture, complete with shouts and screams. "Sequencer" closes with slow, moody, analog arpeggios, rising, falling, filtering, twisting around, through, over, and under each other.

MB Eating Shells 12"
British producer Marco Bernardi provides plenty of synth action on Eating Shells. The opener, "Preminitions Of A Solar Blank", is a rich composition with a melody-heavy approach which does not cripple it's dancefloor momentum. "Invisible Breaths" is slightly deeper than the opener, with a subtle emotion buried between the layers of synth lines that organically unravel throughout the track. "Static Winds" is perhaps the closest to Marco's earlier Barba Records output - a bit squeaky, a bit messy and properly mental. "Walking With Slippers" is a very direct, with a straightforward beat and a heavy synth line.

LUSTMORD The Monstrous Soul 2LP
Restocked, slightly lower price; last copies... "Burning World Records is proud to present the second installment in the Lustmord vinyl re-issue series... The Monstrous Soul, originally recorded and released in 1990. The Monstrous Soul was conceived in Sheffield in 1990 by B. Lustmord and Clock DVA founder Adi Newton. First released by London label World Serpent, it followed the seminal and highly influential dark ambient album Heresy (SOL 009CD). Although the release dates were barely a year apart, The Monstrous Soul marked a turning point for Lustmord, one that mapped the future more than it mirrored the past. Much more digital magic and electronic processing was employed this time, where much of the material on Heresy utilized acoustic sound sources and traditional analog recording technologies. The Monstrous Soul dedicated itself to creating a environment of gloom in which the listener was totally enveloped by an hour long soundscape best described as a journey through a frozen hell. At the time The Monstrous Soul was recorded, the legendary B. Lustmord resided in a squat in London, near the Oval cricket ground, just around the corner from David Tibet, founder of Current 93. It takes little imagination to connect the bleak visual landscape of south London's worst slum to Lustmord's grim electronics. This wasn't simply a fantasy video game soundtrack, it truly reflected the environment from which is came." Housed in a gatefold sleeve.

KEMA Alle Sorgenti Delle Civilta 10"
The first-ever dedicated album release by pioneering female Italian film music composer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist Giulia De Muittis (aka Mrs. Alessandro Alessandroni). This release compiles her contributions of Folkmusic releases Alle Sorgenti Delle Civiltà volumes One and Two to create her first-ever dedicated artist album under any of her recording monikers. Rare undercover pseudo-ethnological studio sessions made under her experimental alter ego Kema (The Pawnshop) combining the ethos of Can's "Ethnological Forgery Series" (EFS) with the studio trickery of Delia Derbyshire and unshakable credentials as one of the founding figures of Giallo film music and Italian psych soundtracks. Remastered from the original Flipper master tapes in collaboration with the Di Bari family. Perhaps best known amongst fans of Italian production music and Giallo movie soundtracks as the wife of the legendary Alessandro Alessandroni, composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Giulia De Muittis was an equally formidable force who emerged from the formative years of the aforementioned anti-genres and rose to a monarchic status within the country's vibrant, and seldom rivalled musical secret society. The cliché "behind every successful man, there is a strong woman" might not do Alessandro and Giulia's long-running creative unison justice but one thing that rings true that in the shadows of Senor Alessandroni's limelight (illuminated by his work with Ennio Morricone for the films of Sergio Leone and Dario Argento) remained a darker musical feminine force which in time has come to represent the duo's finest and most sought after sonic artifacts. In a career that spanned four decades until her untimely death in 1984, Giulia's collaborative work as a reliable creative all-rounder and pop polymath has stood the unshakable test of time like few other musicians resulting in projects like The Pawnshop, Femina Ridens (1969), Revolver (SPITTLE 056LP, 1973), Questo Sporco Mondo Meraviglioso (1971), The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Tomb (1971), Angoscia (1975), Inchiesta Giudiziaria (1971) and Witchcraft '70 (Angeli Bianchi Angeli Neri) (1970) earning increasing "Most Wanted" status on the collectors market. It is of no coincidence that Giulia's nom de plumes, Kema and De Muittis, have in recent, more educated years, become trusted seals of approval which connect top choice composers such as Raskovich (aka Sorgini), Stelvio Cipriani, Morricone, Braen (aka Alessandroni) Amedeo Tomassi, Piero Umiliani and Bruno Nicolai amongst select others. It is, however, De Muittis's seldom heard self-initiated solo work for small independent Italian library music imprints that reveal a unique multi-instrumentalist female composer working at her most intimate and uncompromised best.

SINES, TODD Blowing 12"
Todd Sines delivers sharp-edged, wildly expressive house music on Blowing. "Blown Away" sees off-kilter drums and tweaked out synth lines rub up against an utterly soulful vocal turn from Robert Owens in a true definition of 21st century funk. Originally written by Charles Webster, Sines has taken the foundations of the track and twisted it into a shape all of his own. Elsewhere the mood takes a deeper turn, as "Deserted", "Cave" and "Recover" all plunge into a vision of deep house that retains the emotion while pushing the rhythms into exciting, psychedelic new territory.

VA Calabar-Itu Road: Groovy Sounds From South Eastern Nigeria (1972-1982) 2LP
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. "This Black Friday RSD exclusive is housed in a hand silk-screened jacket from Antidesigns. When most people think about Nigerian music, the first thing that comes to mind is Lagos -- the country's main commercial center, the glittering megacity that spawned Yoruba-speaking music luminaries such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Sir Shina Peters and Wizkid. But Nigeria is a country of rich diversity, especially in its music: From the Igbo highlife and rock bands of east-central region, to the deep Edo roots rhythms from the midwest, to the keening, ornamented Fulani melodies of the north. But one region whose music has remained largely underexplored is the south eastern land of the Efik and Ibibio ethnic groups in Cross River and Akwa Ibom State -- the region colloquially referred to as 'Calabar.' A cradle of culture, this region was one of the earliest outposts of Nigerian popular music. Its primordial rhythms traveled across the Atlantic during the slave trade to provide the part of the foundation for Afro-Cuban grooves that would go on to influence the development of jazz, rock & roll, R&B and funk. With the new Calabar-Itu Road compilation, Comb & Razor Sound presents 15 heavy tracks recorded in the decade between 1972 and 1982, spotlighting rare music from 'Calabar' superstars such as Etubom Rex Williams, Cross River Nationale, Charles 'Effi' Duke, The Doves and Mary Afi Usuah. The package features a magazine-style booklet containing a wealth of information about the milieu with rare photographs and illustrations. The Calabar-Itu Road is the major artery linking modern-day Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. And Calabar-Itu Road: Groovy Sounds From South Eastern Nigeria (1972-1982) will link the region's music to the rest of the world!"

BLONDES, JAMES CAMPBELL & I.U.D. Wade Guyton Kunsthalle Zurich 4LP
On August 31, 2013, for the opening of Wade Guyton's exhibition at Kunsthalle Zu?rich, Blondes, James Campbell and I.U.D. each performed in front of one Guyton's expansive canvases. This 4 LP vinyl record acts as a catalog for the four gallery exhibition with a double gatefold that unfolds to present a model of the installation. Each record contains one performance from the night, and corresponds directly to the painting in front of which the performance took place. Filled with organic growth and decay, Blondes find ways of creating a sonic environment that feels removed from the artificial perfection of computers. In this performance they've reacted to the room of the Kunsthalle, reinterpreting the tracks from their celebrated album Swisher (2013), restraining the percussion to make room for washes of reverb and textured melody. James Campbell's performance explores the resonance of the space. Filtered amplifiers concentrate pools of room tones that pulse under minimal percussion. By processing his drums and sequenced oscillators through delay feedback he produces a skittering phase interference moiré. Sparse and entrancing, Campbell's drumming obliterates into powerful drone. I.U.D. are Lizzi Bougatsos and Sadie Laska, who drum up a fierce sound over lots of fractured noise, primal percussion and abstract vocals while Spencer Sweeney accompanies on guitar and drums. Their Kunsthalle performance was a welcome blast of pungent discord. Previous releases on Social Registry include the Dead Womb 7" (2007) and The Proper Sex (2009). I.U.D. has been described by Prefix Magazine as "a welcome blast of pungent discord driven by a lurid sexuality that feels both filthy and funny."

HIVER Soundescence EP 12"
The dynamic duo Hiver return with their third EP for Curle Recordings, Soundescence EP. The title track displays the melodic, psychedelic sound Hiver have been praised for previously. Delicate synth patterns perfectly bled with the understated drums and percussive elements. This ethereal approach to techno continues on the following deep-groover, "One More Snooze". "Phonotis" immediately breaks the silence with a steady 4/4 rhythm, seeing a squelchy synth bassline, warm pads and floating atmospheric textures scattered throughout the six-minute number. "Floor Diving" once again showcases Hiver's sleek and seductive style of dance music that is made for dark, underground clubs.

MORRICONE, ENNIO Veruschka 2LP
Dagored present Ennio Morricone's famous soundtrack composed for the 1971 Franco Rubartelli documentary Veruschka, Poesia Di Una Donna. The documentary was about the legendary Veruschka, the world's first supermodel and '60s/'70s icon, who appeared in several cult movies including Blow Up (1966), Salome (1972) and Couleur Chair (1978). In Rubartelli's movie, the viewer follows the beautiful model in a shockingly surreal journey through the rural countryside of Italy on a downward spiral of self-discovery that leads her through so many whacked out head trips; heavily dark and sad with some of the most stunning psychedelic eye candy you can find from the freak-out era of filmmaking, perfectly tuned with one of Ennio Morricone's best scores. A true one kind of experience. Limited deluxe gatefold edition; Double LP on pink and white vinyl.

MAKAM Than Sadet 2LP
Makam, aka Guy Blanken, returns to Dekmantel Records with his first full-length album for the Amsterdam based label. Blanken's ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to Than Sadet, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. Than Sadet displays a refinement of Makam's sound. The music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. Blanken on the records: "Than Sadet is a secluded beach on an island in Thailand. A mysterious atmosphere haunts it. It's windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. There are many cliffs and you can't swim because the waves are too high. Four years ago, I visited Than Sadet for the first time and I've been coming back ever since. At one point I decided to bring my studio equipment. For a week, I dedicated my days to making music. Those sketches formed the basis of the album." The inspiration on Than Sadet is obvious: From billowing percussion through windswept strings, to passages of strange bird calls, across desolate tracts of calving synthesizers, to a climax with a finale of petrifying thunder drums. The levels of dramatic suspense are sky-high, and mostly downbeat and mid-tempo grooves operating beyond the dancefloor. Blanken explains further: "Each track is based on a particular Than Sadet aesthetic. For example, 'Mr. Singh' is a masseur on the beach who uses fire while doing his shiatsus. 'Buddha's Bridge' is a wooden bridge that leads to an impressive Buddha monument; 'Seven Kings' is an ode to a local waterfall. Tracks like 'Mai Pen Rai' and 'When Light Gives You Hope' are representative for Than Sadet. I tried to create an introspective album that does what the island did to me: it puts life into perspective."

SPIKED PUNCH Guinea Pig 7"
"Spiked Punch is a new project from 2/3 of Black Dice, Eric Copeland and Aaron Warren. After the third member Bjorn Copeland relocated to Los Angeles in 2015, Aaron and Eric worked on a Black Dice remix commission for Awesome Tapes From Africa, for artist Aby Ngana Diop. Through this creative process, they hit upon a new sort of inspiration for making music and Spiked Punch was born. These two tracks were born out of long form improvisations between Eric and Aaron. It is most definitely music born of their environment in Brooklyn - the lo-fi bodega beats seeping out of the dozens of delis, trial and error with early sample chopping, watching YouTube tutorials for help, the eerie comfort of late night local TV, and a sweltering Brooklyn summer cooled and fueled by Tecate. The duo also emphasizes the music was recorded on an iBook from 2004. The music Spiked Punch have created is wildly percussive and zig zags around tweaked vocal stabs and dubbed out bass lines. When pressed for more personal descriptors for the music the band responded with this: 'Coconut bongos, pineapple kick drums, stolen bike vocals, peanut chew bass-lines'."

MOORE, RUDY RAY This Ain't No White Christmas LP
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. "Rudy Ray Moore was a storyteller extraordinaire, a hilarious, low-down dirty man, and a legit trailblazer in the world of no-holds-barred, fuck-the-censors comedy. This classic, live Christmas album shows Moore in the 1970s form that cemented his late-night legacy. Side 1 is for early evening listening, when family and respectable friends might still be around. (The dirty stuff is for the flip.) The song 'Merry Christmas, Baby' starts things off -- a slow, dusty blues number bolstered by a wobbly but upright backing band. The song itself is PG, extolling the virtues of a caring partner and the joy of the season. Truth be told, it's a warm and wonderful holiday song. With the band gently strolling behind him, he then lays into Christmas tales from childhood up through modern day trials, tribulations and hilarities. 'I can remember when me and my brother were six years old,' he says. 'We hung our stockings up on the mantelpiece, and the health department made us take them down.' Good old fashioned family fun. But with the man also known Dolemite, the 'down and dirty' is never far away. Side 2 is where things get good (and X-rated), for the late night listening pleasure. It all starts with Rudy retelling The Night Before Christmas -- with his grooving backing band -- in his trademark raunchy style, complete with mice and rats getting it on. Also included on this side is a psychedelic blues number, detailing Brother Rap's visit to heaven (to get dirty, of course). And it all finishes up with a thematically appropriate Christmas themed tale, with the term motherfucker used in potentially record-breaking numbers. It's what you'd expect from the legendary, foul-mouthed, groundbreaking comedy legend. A perfect way to keep the holidays from becoming too much of a Hallmark moment."

SENDAI Ground and Figure 2LP
Editions Mego present the third release by Sendai, Ground and Figure. Comprised of Peter Van Hoesen and Yves de Mey, Ground and Figure presents the duo residing in a more economic framework which allows the sound and rhythm they produce more room to shift, swirl and swim the circumference of the audio spectrum. Moving away from the twitchiness and anxiety of the earlier output, Ground and Figure is a vast spacious journey from a duo in full control of their chosen path. Throughout Ground and Figure, abstraction and rhythm weave among each other in such a sly manner that the resulting tension in the conflicting elements presents the listener with a hypothetical high-tech elastic percussive grid. A thudding, pulsating, shape-shifting ambient beast is summoned by these two creators working as one. This is machine music. This is hypnotic disorientation. This is an immense ambitious and refined world of sound and rhythm. This is the work of two producers who continuously try to top up their skills. Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci at EnissLab Studio, Rome. Cover image by Cameron Robbins.

VA Midnite Spares LP
Repressed. The Efficient Space label follows its acclaimed 2016 Sky Girl compilation (EFFICIENT 002CD/LP) with Midnite Spares. Here, Australian music devotees András Fox and Instant Peterson hold a candle to overlooked avant-pop and electronic works by antipodean artists and outsiders working through the '80s and '90s. Through co-presenting their weekly radio show "Strange Holiday", the duo slowly upturned their locale for inspiration - archives, country bookstores, private collections and convenience stores - searching for a place to anchor their own identities in the oceans of the island continent. The ten tracks here acknowledge a minor history, passed on via a network of friends, friends of friends, the libraries of radio station 3RRR and more often than not, the artists themselves. Renowned mixed media artist Maria Kozic enters with the mysterious downbeat of "Trust Me", her partner Philip Brophy responsible for digital and analog sonic construction (as the MK Sound). A recurring character in András and Instant Peterson's investigations, Brophy reappears with a score piece from his divisive feature film Salt, Saliva, Sperm and Sweat (1988), recorded as ? ? ? (pronounced "Tch Tch Tch"). Other links are thread under the surface. Melbourne inner north experimentalist David Chesworth explores his Australiana song-craft leading Whadya Want? on "Open Spaces". The short lived project also featured Philip Jackson, whose duo The Couch is restored from Fast Forward's dance issue - a pioneering cassette fanzine published by early-80s 3RRR personality Bruce Milne. The collection binds a certain musicianship that's indifferent to fame or chart success, although some artists unwittingly experienced this before and after. Poets Of The Machine's Grace Jones techno-wave was a modest moment for Coral Island and Red Stripe, an English migrant who once celebrated a #1 UK Christmas single with an acapella cover of "Yazoo", while the morbid coming of age electronics of Foot And Mouth is a lesser known prologue to Sean Greenway and Matty Whittle's rise as legendary teen punks heroes God. Quickly becoming a modern dancefloor hit, Mumbo Jumbo's sole release "Wind It Up" is only now basking in its brilliance. The remaining figures shape the diversity further. There's Sydney dub addicts The Igniters, Mix's groovy synth song about masturbation and the Cameron Allen and Graham Bidstrup soundtrack for petrol headed "ozploitation" film, Midnite Spares (1983) -- the compilation's namesake.

PSYCHEMAGIK Ritual Chants 3CD
Ritual Chants is a stellar earthbound and outer space odyssey spanning three discs, respectfully embellishing Psychemagik's taste and passion for the wonderful, the sublime and very often unusual. Ritual Chants skillfully shows insights into applying retro finds into a contemporary setting, much of the material acquired via world tours and capturing the excitement of finding and sharing lost jewels. Compiled by Danny McLewin, the renowned record digger of the duo, the three discs are carefully programmed and sequenced into three themes: Love, Beach and Dance, all of which tenderly demonstrate curious ears with a respectful nod to the past and the future via such touchstones as the pre-new age emanations of "Water Sports" by Man Parrish, a beautiful tranquil and cascading synth poem which soothes and pulses, and the sublime and haunting "God's Garden" by John J. Francis. Along with the two mentioned tracks, Love features the Gallic seduction of "L'Amour Joue Au Violon" by Jeanette, a real string-swept lost masterpiece reminiscent of Melody Nelson-era Serge Gainsbourg. On Beach, the booming drum machine mechanics of "Hangin' Out In Space" by Tony Wilson is a galactic deep-fried boogie which will have even robots shaking their metal-ware into the long wee hours, as will the hypnotic Arabic infused brew made by Golden Hands on "Take Me Back". The semi discordant funk of Zru Vogue's "Do the Zru", reminiscent of a later era Can, finds its place on Beach as well. Dance opens with phenomenal and unknown cuts such as "Love And Happiness" by Mansour Sallama and Ennio Morricone's disco-infused hybrid cut "Dance On" adding magic and mysticism, and high quality floor polishers such as Pop-Corn Makers's "Nothing", a sweaty gyrating slice of European sleaze. Psychemagik are a duo as infamous for their production technique as their DJ skills, their prolific edits laced with subtle studio production re-interpreting vintage gems and giving them a contemporary bounce. Love features: The Rias Orchestra, John J. Francis, Chac Mool, Kraan, G.R.C. Five, Free Fantasy, Wavemaker, Bobby Lyle, Babla & Kanchan, FG's Romance, Etienne Vermoessen & Guido Delo, Musyl & Joseppa and Karat. MAURO, JOSE Obnoxius LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl with obi strip. Far Out Recordings present a reissue of Jose Mauro's forgotten masterpiece Obnoxius, recorded in 1970 for Quartin. Over the course of the '60s, Roberto Quartin released more than 20 albums in Brazil on his label Forma, by artists including the likes of Eumir Deodato and Quateto Em Cy. Selling the rights of Forma to Polygram in 1969, Quartin struck out for pastures new at the dawn of the 1970s with the launch of his self-titled label. Significant works and high-water marks for Brazilian music overall followed in that decade's first year, including Obnoxius. Jose Mauro is an increasingly rare phenomenon. Mauro is said to have died in a car accident shortly before the release of Obnoxious, a fact that could have lent his brief musical career a touch of mythology were it not for how scant the details concerning any other aspects of his life are. Production on the record was cancelled after Mauro's death and it was never sold commercially until it was rereleased decades later. The title track is a wholly singular piece of music, blending string-drenched melancholia with orchestral pomp, sunny psychedelic strumming with propulsive percussion, topped off with Mauro's yearning vocals. The result is indicative of Mauro's unique blend of sounds from Latin jazz and samba to psychedelic folk and baroque orchestration. Today, Obnoxious retains its strange, otherworldly appeal - a firm favorite among a small circle of deep diggers including Madlib, Gilles Peterson, Floating Points and DJ Nuts. Jose Mauro's mournful and melancholic vocals create a dark, brooding atmosphere that stands in contrast to the usual joyfulness and high-spirited rhythm of the more prominent Brazilian music of the era. Despite this air of foreboding, Mauro's confident baritones, chord patterns and sumptuous arrangements have the ability to induce in the listener in an almost trance-like state of ecstasy. Obnoxius is Mauro's long hidden masterpiece, a complex and uniquely stunning work. All tracks on the record were composed by Mauro and Ana Maria Bahiana. Personnel: Maurilio - trumpet; Paulo Moura - alto sax; Altamiro Carrilho - flute; Rildo Hora - harmonica; Salvador - organ, piano, harpsichord; Geraldo Vespar - guitar; Jose Mauro - violao; Sebastiao Marinho - bass; Juqinha and Mamao - percussion; Wilson das Neves - drums; Roberto Quartin - string formation.

REICH/TERRY RILEY, STEVE Six Pianos / Keyboard Study #1 LP
LP version. Includes download code. After the widely noticed performance at the "Acht Brücken Festival 2016" at Cologne's Philharmonic Hall, Gregor Schwellenbach, Hauschka, Erol Sarp (of Grandbrothers), Daniel Brandt and Paul Frick (both of Brandt Brauer Frick) and John Kameel Farah release their interpretation of Steve Reich's "Six Pianos" as a studio recording via FILM. The re-recording of this piece is an interpretation of Reich's composition but still far more than just that - it is a modern approach to his idea behind it. The basic idea came up at the beginning of the '70s at the Baldwin Piano & Organ Company in New York. During a rehearsal phase, which Steve Reich spent in this very piano store, the idea emerged of writing a composition for all the grand pianos available to him at the company. By the time of the finished piece, the actual number of pianos had settled down to six, where "Six Pianos" developed in 1973. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the six pianists declare their love to Steve Reich with this release. Shaped by electronic club music as well as their classical education, they form "Six Pianos" in dignified modernity and top it off with today's sound aesthetics and technical recording possibilities. Presented here is not the recording from the Kölner Philharmonie (Cologne Philharmonics), but the ensemble playing six different grand pianos in six different locations throughout Germany. Each pianist performed his part on his piano using his typical studio equipment and passed the recording over to the next one. Thus the six characteristic and individual timbres of the performers overlay to create the overall picture - "Six Pianos" the way it should be looked at in 2016. Jan Brauer mixed "Six Pianos" in the studio while Lukas Vogel provided delays for the "Keyboard Study #1". "Keyboard Study #1" by Terry Riley is a worthy companion for Reich's composition. The piece is kind of a building set of ever lengthening, repetitive patterns played against each other with the right and left hand displaced. The composition proposes various possible combinations for the performer to choose from and repeat at will. And what the performers have chosen proves Gregor Schwellenbach's assumption: "Terry Riley's and Steve Reich's music are open doors for pianists socialized by pop music and their audience."

MCLUHAN, MARSHALL The Medium Is the Massage LP
2016 repress. "When Marshall McLuhan proposed his idea to create an audio companion piece to his landmark 1967 book The Medium is the Massage, no one quite knew what to expect. The book itself brilliantly captured McLuhan's theories on media and technology, arguing that the medium by which information is transferred to people was more important than the actual content being relayed. McLuhan hoped that an audio recording would help give greater depth to his theories, and in the late 1960s he and producer John Simon went to work on a record of the same name. Using audio clips of McLuhan speaking, often interrupted by discordant sounds and other voices interjecting, they created a thought-provoking, sometimes whimsical patchwork of sounds and ideas that illustrated the complex relationship between people, media, and technology. Over 40 years since its release, The Medium is the Massage continues to challenge listeners to think about media and communications in new ways. Five Day Weekend is proud to present the definitive vinyl edition of this rare and important album. Included in the LP package is a 20-page 8"x11" booklet featuring original essays by DJ Spooky and Michael Vasquez, a reproduction of a print by Winston Smith, and a collection of previously unpublished photos from the original recording sessions."

KLOSOWSKI, A.K. Plays The Kassetteninstrument LP
Long before digital sampling was affordable for everyone, A.K. Klosowski invented his kassetteninstrument, a custom-made music apparatus consisting of eight Sony Walkmans with a mute/de-mute mechanism. The outputs of the instrument could be controlled both by hand and by an automatic trigger module. In addition, a drum computer and some effect machines were fed into the circuit. This technique allowed for a very intuitive control over the analog tape sources. A.K. Klosowski began performing with his kassetteninstrument at different occasions in the early 1980s. When Kurt Dahlke, aka Pyrolator (of the famous Düsseldorf synth band Der Plan), saw him play he suggested recording an album together which finally led to the critically acclaimed 1985 LP, Home Taping Is Killing Music (BB 128CD/LP). However, the raw, plunderphonic aspect of Klosowski's music, his rough and edgy rhythms, cut-up techniques and sparkling noise colors, are much more present in his solo work, which are featured here for the first time on Gagarin Records. All of the 13 tracks on this album were recorded straight to the master tape without multi-tracking between 1982 and 1984. Although drawing on pre-existing sound sources, they provide a texture that is different to digital sampling. This is not only due to the charmingly imprecise mechanics of the compact cassette, with all its faults and phasings, but also to the fact that the sounds don't share the same starting point, as they are picked in real time from continuously running audio tapes. At times, Klosowski's kassetteninstrument behaves like a malfunctioning jukebox or an auto-correction system that takes the listener on a romantic trip through wobbly loops, erratic swings and dub-like echo effects. These sonic detours are combined with spherical flutter sounds, industrial atmospheres, African patterns and the beauty of 1980s low-cost rhythm machines. Their liveliness and unusual groove is still as fresh today as it was back in the pre-digital age. It is a blessing to witness Mr. Klosowski only just managing to rule his outrageous machine, forever wresting back control with a human touch.

UGK FEAT OUTKAST Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You) 12"
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. " 'Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)' by U.G.K. is one of the most recognizable hip hop songs of the 2000s. This is the kind of record that can be heard anywhere, from car shows in Texas to basement parties in Brooklyn, maybe even at your cousin's wedding. This song is so good that at the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards Kanye West famously gave his Video Of The Year award to U.G.K. after 'Stronger' beat 'Int'l Players Anthem'. Let's also not forget its Grammy Nomination. Yes it's that good. U.G.K.'s celebratory anthem also features Outkast and the groups combine as one over a very hypnotic Three 6 Mafia produced beat. The sample used is Willie Hutch's 'I Choose You' from the movie The Mack, which is the perfect backdrop for Andre 3000, Pimp C (R.I.P.), Bun B and Big Boi to spit tales of women, money and marriage. The song starts off with Andre 3000 rhyming over the elegant doo wop vocal harmonies until a stuttered drum kick changes the mood for Pimp C to spit fire. This beat change/mood switch happens each verse, fitting each rapper's personality and tone, kudos to DJ Paul and Juicy J for expertly crafting this record. For Black Friday Record Store Day, Get On Down presents 'International Players Anthem' as a special collectible vinyl release shaped like U.G.K.'s home state of Texas!"

JUNGLE BROTHERS Done By The Forces Of Nature 2LP
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. "The Jungle Brothers's 1988 debut, Straight Out The Jungle, was important for many reasons. It was sloppy and goofy but had moments of real focus and social consciousness. It was a true 'kitchen sink' record, that caught a rap fan base enraptured by Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions a bit off-guard. Also of note, beyond the excellence of the album itself, the Jungle Brothers were the fulcrum for what would become the Native Tongues movement -- they came first, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest followed, under their guidance. By 1989, the group had even more confidence, plus a Warner Bros. contract and advance in their back pocket. They used it to great advantage on the self-produced and criminally underrated Done By The Forces Of Nature, expanding their sonic palette and continuing their Afrocentric approach to music and life. Singles like 'What 'U' Waitin' 4' and 'Doin' Our Own Dang' (with De La and Q-Tip, alongside Monie Love) showed the group's fun side, which has also lead the way in the 'hip-house' movement. But things weren't all fun and games, as deeper, more pensive album tracks like 'Black Woman,' 'Beeds On A String,' and 'Acknowledge Your Own History' show. It was another accomplished mix of fun, frolic and knowledge-of-self, proving that you could be serious in the rap game but still let off steam and fill the dancefloor. Done By The Forces Of Nature stands as one of the most cherished hip-hop documents of the late '80s among true-school heads, and this edition is the perfect way to revisit this classic thinking-man's (and woman's) rap platter. Issued for the first time ever on 2-LP with the original picture sleeve artwork, it also comes with a reproduction of the original insert, with credits and lyrics."

Yet that's exactly what happened with Chicago blues legend Howlin' Wolf's 1969 LP The Howlin' Wolf Album, a release that has since attained mythical status due to the controversy behind it. Released on Cadet Records, a subsidiary of legendary imprint Chess Records, The Howlin' Wolf Album was a radical experiment for a well-established artist: attempt to integrate electric instruments and psychedelic arrangements into his revered signature blues sound. The result was an album that Wolf himself initially disregarded on the now infamous cover, but one that has won a special place amongst dedicated music aficionados thanks to its unique mix of traditional blues and electric rock elements. Get On Down's reputation for high quality reissues continues with The Howlin' Wolf Album, which features a special Stoughton vinyl pressing with audio remastered from the original analog tapes for optimum sound quality and comes packaged in a paste-on style jacket featuring the album's famous original artwork."

VA James Brown's Funky People (Part 3) 2LP
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. "Get On Down continues its very welcome obsession with James Brown's stable of late '60s and early '70s talent - much of it culled from his People Records label, including various backing bands - by bringing this first-time-ever-on-vinyl package to the world. The third volume in the groundbreaking Funky People series, originally released on CD in 2000, is just as incredible as the first two. And maybe even more fascinating to JB fans, because of the less-heard discoveries lurking in these grooves. With 12 tracks spanning 1967 to 1975, this is far from a 'remainders' collection. Each cut here packs an undeniable punch. Featuring James's most talented side-people, including The JBs, Bobby Byrd, Marva Whitney, Lyn Collins and Vicki Anderson, Part 3 goes even deeper in the cut than previous collections, with the white Ohio-based studio crew The Dapps (featuring drummer/vocalist Beau Dollar), the Dee Felice Trio and even a cheekily named side crew called the A.A.B.B. (Above Average Black Band). There are some impressive covers here, including the Dee Felice Trio's driving, jazzy version of James's 'There Was A Time' (known to the hip-hop nation thanks to Chubb Rock's 'Treat 'Em Right'); a live version of Lyn Collins covering the Isley Brothers's 'It's My Thing'; in addition to her studio cover of James's 'Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose.' In retrospect it even sounds like James covers himself on the raw and powerful 'Original Rock Version' of his 1972 hit 'Talkin' Loud And Saying Nothin',' even though the rock version was recorded first, in 1970. Marva Whitney's 'If You Don't Give Me What I Want' is as powerful and emotional as a soul ballad gets. The A.A.B.B.'s 'Pick Up The Pieces One By One' must have made the Average White Band want to hang up their instruments. And one truly fascinating alternate take here is the 'Undubbed Version' of the JBs's 'Blow Your Head,' with the Moog work and main Fred Wesley trombone solo removed. It lets the groove shimmer in whole new light. The more that newcomers and diehard fans alike dig into the James Brown and People Records vaults, the more they realize that it's a never-ending source of truly next-level funk and soul music. And you can be sure this aural goodness will keep flowing to the public, thanks to the exhaustive efforts of Get On Down."

BEATNUTS, THE Off The Books 7"
" 'Off the Books' was one of the biggest records of '97 with The Beatnuts plugging to their trusted formula of dusty-ass beats and funny punchlines. These elements are what made 'Off The Books' extra special in a time when the 'shiny suit era' was rearing it's shiny head. The Beatnuts bring along Big Pun who opens up the track with such a memorable verse, introducing the world to what Pun would later have in store. Les and JuJu (along with Cuban Link) all ride the song out with 'shoot bro, I got a waterproof suit yo' and 'your career's on life support, and I'ma pull the plug' - just countless quotable lines from an already legendary group. The cut's infectious nature makes this a must-have 7" for any DJ or collector."

TOO SHORT Blow The Whistle 7"
"Too Short's 2006 certified club staple 'Blow The Whistle' gets the 7" treatment for the first time ever, and it's safe to say it's about time. Short Dog has long been considered hip hop royalty with countless classic singles and albums, but 'Blow The Whistle' might be the biggest. It's been referenced countless times (epic call outs ? 'what's my favorite word') and Drake grabbing a few lines to paraphrase this song 10 years after speaks to its staying power and relevancy. It takes a legend like Too Short to bring it like this and it doesn't hurt that Lil Jon cooked up a fire pot beat to propel the cut up the Billboard R&B/hip hop and hip hop songs chart. It staying power is undeniable."

Named after the foreboding family of birds that includes ravens and crows, Corvus is a chilling listen inspired by everything from The Revenant's Ryuichi Sakamoto soundtrack to Max Frisch's heady novel Homo Faber. DELLO AND FRIENDS, PETE Into Your Ears LP
Got Kinda Lost Records present a reissue of Pete Dello And Friends's Into Your Ears, originally released in 1971 by Nepentha. Into Your Ears is the sole full-length offering from Honeybus founder member Pete Dello (assisted by a coterie of close friends). The album is a wonderful, timeless work of incisive, plaintive folk-pop balladry and buoyant, idiosyncratic creations, led along by Dello's honeyed voice, which eases effortlessly into falsetto, and expertly executed arrangements featuring minor orchestrations. Into Your Ears represents the zenith of Dello's songwriting, comprised primarily of tunes written specifically for this project, supplemented by a few tracks intended for Honeybus which were re-cut for the occasion. The songwriting reflects a jovial playfulness, but also feelings of intense lovelorn longing, hope, wistfulness and moments that could serve as a great soundtrack to a break-up, with the brightness of delivery never making them ache with depression. Everything on Into Your Ears comes from personal life experiences, even if twisted through a unique prism, with the deep emotions, whimsical moments and orchestration that never clutters the arrangements all achieving perfect balance. But, above all, the songs resonate with a pure dedication to "pop" and beckon you to listen in repetition, until they're at one with your very existence. There's something present, timeless and at times nearly indescribable about this very special set of songs that can't be pinpointed by simple equation. Widely regarded by Honeybus fans, '60s-'70s collectors and anyone who's happened into its beatific orbit, Into Your Ears is a lost classic deserving of further exposure. Includes liner notes culled from interviews with Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things/Got Kinda Lost), presenting the most thorough examination of Dello's career to date; Original gatefold LP artwork restored, illustrated by Roger Dean. RIYL: Ray Brooks, Duncan Browne, John Cale's Paris 1919 (1973), Ray Davies (The Kinks), Bill Fay, Nick Garrie, the early careers of Ralph McTell and Clifford T. Ward.

Carmina Diabolo starts off with the neatly carved "Himalaya" which delivers the finest in fuzz rock and just like the title says, it is a giant - Good vocals and great riffs. This smooth running "motor" is fueled with gallons of first class rocket fuel, more than enough to hurl anyone into orbit. The following gem "Babylon" together with the fourth act "What's In Your Head" run in the same vein and are just as dusty as desert rock should be. Other tracks worth mentioning are "Bulls & Bones" and the outstanding "Return To Volturn". They grab you by the balls just like most of the songs on the album. Carmina Diabolo is like a journey back to the 2000s, reminiscent of the Dutch scene at that time, when bands like Candybar Planet, Cowboys & Aliens and Desert Sons made angels in the sand. Bands like Kyuss, Monster Magnet and Fu Manchu had already become legends. For fans of old school stoner rock.

FREEKS, THE Shattered LP
LP version. Everything has a beginning, whether it by accident or by design. A journey consists of trials and errors until finally reaching a full circle - ever evolving, revolving over and over again. Set in constant motion, the gathering of speed reaching ultimate vibrations until it's all shattered! This can also be said in regards to Los Angeles, California based quintet The Freeks as they return from yet another complete orbit with their third full length album, Shattered. What started as an accident, brought on a thought, which then began a project that grew into a solidified unit of sonic purification. The Freeks, led by Ruben Romano, have consistently moved upward since their conception in 2007 and have gracefully matured since their first self-titled album in 2008 on Cargo Records. While the initial project collaborated with players from around world, in 2010, Romano gathered together a more local unit of musicians, all baked under the LA heat, to achieve a consistent flow of creation. This was followed by The Freeks critically acclaimed 2013 sophomore album Full On, released on the band's very own label Freek Flag Records. Now in 2016, The Freeks prepare to sling shot and extend the trajectory of their already existing orbital path by joining forces with Heavy Psych Sounds to release this latest revolution. The Freeks are fully ready to shake it until it's all shattered. Since The Freeks issued their aptly-titled sophomore full-length Full On, their reputation as a vibrant live act has only grown. Shattered is a mix of the old Nebula style, mixing heavy fuzz riffs of desert rock n roll with a fresh breath of a new wave, adding synthesizers, keyboards and more arrangements. Features ex-members of Fu Manchu and Nebula.

PEYMONT Cibernetica LP
Intervallo present a reissue of Peymont's Cibernetica, originally released in 1971. Back in 1971, when this real gem of electronic experimentation was released, the term "cybernetic" was used to refer to the future. Or, at least, to an obscure science in the hands of a few experts, conducting experiments in rooms filled with huge electronic calculators. Automated controls, auto-regulation, information theory, those were abstract, uncommon and rarely used concepts which would change the world in a few years, and, in our case, deeply influenced an album which, almost half a century later, remains a mystery. The Greek origin of the word used as a title ("kybernetes", which indicates the pilot of a ship) is not very helpful and it's still a mystery as to who is hiding under the Peymont alias. For many years it was commonly believed that Peymont was Piero Umiliani in disguise, but some of the most respected theories explain that the nickname was used to hide the identity of Luigi Malatesta - composer of film scores, music libraries and, oddly enough, the hymn of the Italian political party Democrazia Cristiana - or the world famous Egisto Macchi (a more fascinating and plausible thesis). The 13 tracks featured on Cibernetica bring to the mind the most abstract and experimental compositions of Macchi. This music is constantly a means to research and explore: the listener can almost see the author and the musicians - whoever they are - locked in a research lab ("Laboratorio Di Ricerche") while assembling thermoionic valves ("Valvole Termoioniche") and artificial kidneys ("Reni Artificiali"), using an oscilloscope ("Oscilloscopio") or an electronic calculator ("Calcolatore Elettronico"), discussing about analysis and distillation ("Analisi E Distillazione"), electronic impulses ("Impulsi Elettronici") and automatism ("Automatismo"). CATALANO & REMIGIO DUCROS, MASSIMO La Fatica LP
Intervallo present Massimo Catalano & Remigio Ducros's La Fatica, originally released in 1971. Massimo Catalano (who died in 2013) enjoyed a brief stint of fame after joining the cast of Renzo Arbore's cult TV show Quelli Della Notte, but he risked to be remembered only for those little, funny sketches he delivered on camera. A few people are aware of Catalano's great skills as a jazz trumpet player (he played with Louis Armstrong in his career), which he first nurtured with a band called Flippers (also featuring Franco Bracardi on piano and a very young Lucio Dalla on clarinet). For him, the step from jazz to library music was short and easy and he started working his friend Remigio Ducros, composer and piano player, husband of Daniela Casa and author of some rare and extremely refined library albums. The joint efforts of Catalano and Ducros produced two albums only: Idee 1 (1972), featuring Casa in a track, and the beautiful La Fatica, a weird, hard-to-file item, mixing avant-garde, prog moods, electro rhythms, jazz and musique concrète. It's almost impossible to guess what Catalano and Ducros were looking for, while making this album, but despite the troubles and difficulties during its recording process, listening to La Fatica is a breeze. It's a continuous surprise, actually, since every track features unexpected tricks and changes. And, exactly like in other Intervallo releases, the title evoke the noise of machinery, the fascination for science and technology and the beauty of factories: "Catena Di Montaggio Rapido" (Rapid Assembly Line), "Sesto Capannone" (Sixth Depot), "Officina Meccanica" (Mechanical Workshop), "Terapia Della Fatica" (Strain Therapy), "Saturazione" (Saturation), "Esperimento 320" (Experiment 320), "Esami Di Laboratorio" (Lab Tests), "Dopo La Tensione" (After The Tension). COLLINS, ALBERT Joe's Place, Cambridge, MA 17th January 1973 LP
The Texan blues giant Albert Collins enjoys far greater divinity in modern times than he was ever afforded before, especially at the point in his career when he provided a stunning set at Joe's Place in Cambridge, MA in 1973. Joe's Place offered a smaller and more intimate setting for Collins, who performs a selection of his repertoire including "Backstroke," "Frosty" and "Thaw Out," three gems from his 1965 debut The Cool Sounds of Albert Collins. Collins applied his unique and revered style with piercing solos and unlikely improvisations that echoed his aforementioned debut from 1965, an icebreaker album that would help establish Collins as the guitar pioneer he is painted as today. Albert Collins was eventually acknowledged as one of the most talented and distinctive blues guitarists of his era. With unconventional tunings, savage interludes and a scorching delivery, he would earn recognition with his unique brand of blues. A true homage to the phenomenal blues legend is represented in this beautifully packaged edition, boasting the original, re-mastered FM broadcast in its entirety, further celebrating the unique, improvisational depth of a true blues giant. AMIINA Fantomas 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves. Includes download code. Amiina's latest adventure, Fantômas, was originally composed as a live score to a silent masterpiece from 1913. Amiina's members decided right from the start that the music would also be able to stand on its own, independent of the visual narrative. Fantômas is melancholic and ethereal, yet full of suspense, pounding rhythms, and haunting melodies; A sound world full of contrasts, from darkness and utter terror, to heavenly melodies. The music thoughtfully composed, reoccurring themes and lied-motives build up a delicate structure where the listener can experience the piece as one entity - and then again different tracks or songs can be enjoyed independently. Violin, cello, drums, percussion, metallophone, table harp, ukulele, and electronics are the source material for the sound world of Amiina here, but it is expanded upon with their intelligent and imaginative usage of the different instruments and their varied and endless textures. The score Fantômas premiered in Paris in 2013 at the prestigious, Théâtre du Châtelet, where Amiina, together with musicians James Blackshaw, Tim Hecker, Loney Dear, and Yann Tiersen, took part in a special Halloween event, celebrating the centenary of the Fantômas series, directed by the French film director Louis Feuillade in 1913-1914. The Fantômas series - in five parts - ran for six hours with every musician/band providing their new live score for the series, the music commissioned by Yann Tiersen who curated the event. A huge success right from the beginning, Fantômas is an early example of the interplay between avant-garde intellectual and emerging mass culture, highly regarded by the French avant-garde of the 1920s, especially the surrealists, e.g. René Magritte and Guillame Apollinaire, the latter stating that "from the imaginative standpoint, Fantômas is one of the richest works that exist." When the magical, somewhat fragile sound world of Amiina meets the lord of terror something, unexpected and truly magical happens. AK MUSICK AK Musick LP
LP version. Mental Experience present first ever reissue of AK Musick, originally released in 1972. Radical, freaked-out sound with hints of free-jazz, improv and avant-garde, AK Musick was an improv collective assembled by clarinetist Hans Kumpf to "make music in a very democratic way". The five players had a classical education but they were also influenced by avant-garde composers like Helmut Lachenmann and Johannes Fritsch. Their only album, AK Musick, was recorded at the famous Bauer Studios in just three hours and engineered by Martin Wieland, who had previously worked with Keith Jarrett for the ECM label. A wide arrangement of instruments were used: clarinet, cello, oboe, organ, piano, darbuka, tam-tam, ektare, flute, zither. Includes the amazing "Impro-Vision" which sounds like electronic music, but using only natural instruments. AK Musick saw the light in 1972 on Kumpf's own AKM Records label. It was a private homemade edition of 150 copies, with spray-printed covers. During the '70s, AKM Records was also home to other free-jazz rarities like Free Blacks by Perry Robinson/Hans Kumpf (1976), where Hans also collaborated with his friend Wolfgang Dauner, and In Time by Theo Jörgensmann (1977). SVARTE GREINER Moss Garden LP
Erik K Skodvin returns with a focused album under his Svarte Greiner moniker, releasing two side-long cinematic compositions, continuing where he left off with Black Tie (MIA 023CD, 2013). "The Marble" patiently sets the tone with a slow moving wall of strings underlaid by a warped bass line. A feeling of weightlessness covers the ground while empty space surrounds the listener in an embracing yet uneasy way. It's a gloomy territory with an unexpected extent of grace to encounter. Time gradually illuminates several stages of light and dark before revealing a desolate wasteland filled with electric organisms. "Garden" strikes heavily with rattling string hits and low bass waves quivering through your skull, transforming the scenery into a fallow that is staring right back at you. This could easily be the soundtrack to a nightmarish sleeplessness if it wasn't for carefully scattered comfort zones to be found in unknown territory - What appears to be violent at first soon reveals sheer reflective beauty. However, it is patience and repeated listening that liberate the aspired altered state of consciousness. Originally composed for Marit Følstad's installation art, Moss Garden more than ever consolidates Erik Skodvin's individual idea of soundscape. His approach can be interpreted as an embodiment of the word "Terrific" amelioration: Developing from "Terrifying" over "Intense" to its modern understanding in a little more than two centuries, Svarte Greiner reenacts this metamorphosis within a single recording. Includes an insert and a download code. Edition of 700.

DEMDIKE STARE Wonderland 2LP
Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. A project that came to life fueled by collector's obsession and a life-long willingness to dive head-first into unknown musical wormholes, Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty have never been defined by a singular musical trajectory. Their opening salvo of releases dabbled with the aesthetic of the occult and provided an alternate, parallax view of the Italian Library records with which they were both obsessed at the time, but as their long running mixtape series and brilliantly curated DDS label attest, their interests extend far outside the crevices of early electronic music and into dance music, dancehall, roots, jungle, techno, industrial, noise and beyond. While 2013's Testpressing series provided an outlet for mostly club-based productions shot from the hip, Wonderland, their first album since 2012's Elemental, has been constructed with a narrative in mind. From the clipped hard-style of the opening "Curzon", through the jaunty dancehall mutations of "Animal Style" and "FullEdge", exotica/house refractions on "Hardnoise", the frankly ridiculous, bass-bin destroying jungle ructions on "Sourcer", or the extended tease of "Overstaying", it's probably the most enjoyable and loose-limbed hour of music in their catalog, or that you'll likely hear in these weird, angst-ridden times. Mastered and cut by Matt Colton.

DESIGN A WAVE Snake Face LP + 7"
Synth pop giant, Design A Wave presents Snake Face. Big sound on cool electronic disco-edged cuts. Copenhagen based conceptual music act Design A Wave returns with Snake Face, a document of surprise within the composition process. Specifically, Design A Wave uses the computer to create several beats and then utilizes the mutated results as building blocks for several new compositions. Design A Wave's interest in computer-synthetic "snakes", beyond all networks of communication and agency art, centers on placing these formless serpents into existing genres, such as music. Snake Face is a timely exploration of the infectious qualities of music, and how it, as a carrier, makes its way through neural networks, reduced to bits, and is designed to infiltrate and replicate. Design by Cosmo Knex.

EYE 005 12"
"Fresh and new, but rough, layered and head-nodding like classic UK street soul, this is the fifth and for us the best-yet installment in Londoner Eye's excellent, under-the-radar series. Slippery and hard-to-pin-down as usual, but rooted in funk and soul connoisseurship. Two-sided this time -- boozier, dizzier and more spaced-out on the flip, smudged with echo and effects, and scraps of horns and singing. Beautifully hand-decorated sleeves as per."

VA Wake Up You! Vol. 2: The Rise And Fall Of Nigerian Rock (1972-1977) 2LP
"The Western world was in the throes of peace, love and flower power as Nigeria descended into Civil War in 1967. The rock scene that developed during the following three years of bloodshed and destruction would come to heal the country, propagate the world-wide ideal of the modern Nigerian, and propel Fela to stardom after conflict ended in 1970. Wake Up You! tells the story of this time, pays homage to these now-forgotten musicians and their struggle, and brings to light the funk and psychedelic fury they created as they wrested free of the ravages of the late 1960s and created thrilling, original Nigerian rock music throughout the 1970s." Artists include: Funkees, The Doves, The Believers, Tony Grey & The Black 7, Ceejebs, The Identicals, The Hygrades, and Theodore Nemy.

HAYES, ISAAC Do Your Thing LP
Black Friday RSD 2016 release. "The full 33-minute, unreleased, psychedelic funk jam session by Memphis rhythm kingpins the Bar-Kays, mixed directly from the original tapes. Contains bonus rhythm section instrumental and booklet detailing the history of this never-before-heard version of one of Isaac Hayes's most famous songs by Hayes historian Bill Dahl. Hayes was already a cutting-edge funk master at Stax Records when he accepted the unprecedented assignment of creating a soundtrack for the 1971 action flick Shaft. At a time when R&B songs routinely timed out at three minutes and under, Hayes's albums for Stax's Enterprise imprint had been breaking new ground since 1969. His masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul consisted of only four tracks, two songs on The Isaac Hayes Movement clocked in at a hair under 12 minutes, and one selection on his ... To Be Continued stretched to 15:33. But his epic 'Do Your Thing,' one of the cornerstones of the two-LP Shaft soundtrack, outdid them all. Occupying nearly the entire last side of the set, it concluded after 19-and-a-half grooving minutes with the overdubbed sound of a needle scratching violently across a piece of vinyl. No one knew that jarring ending masked the existence of another 13 minutes of 'Do Your Thing.' Consigned to the vaults, those improvisatory extensions -- somewhere in between free-jazz and psychedelic rock -- were seemingly destined never to be heard. Until now."

JOHNNY! I'm Gone 7"
"Whitefield, who in the early '90s revived the gritty, analogue funk sounds of the '60s and '70s with his Poets Of Rhythm, has been working with Now-Again Records for almost a decade, releasing a flock of acclaimed projects with Karl Hector & The Malcouns, Whitefield Brothers, Rodinia and the Original Raw Soul anthology. He first started exploring African rhythms with the Whitefield Brothers in the late '90s, continuing in the '00s with Karl Hector & The Malcouns. He's been instrumental in launching Ghanaian Afro beat/funk legend Ebo Taylor´s international career, decades after the maestro recorded the landmark albums that have inspired thousands. Whitefield recorded two new studio albums with Taylor and toured in his band between 2009 and 2013, where he met Taylor's son Henry and percussionist/Singer Eric Owusu. The trio now front the Johnny! band and find inspiration not only in Ghana's hypnotic grooves, but also the full frontal fuzz guitar assault heard on the legion of 70s 'Zambian Zamrock albums recently reissued by Now-Again. Indeed, Whitefield credits his tours with Zamrock godfathers Rikki Ililonga and WITCH's Jagari Chanda as instrumental in creating the Johnny's sonic backdrop. The band is rounded out by Turkish drummer Bernd Oezsevim (Woima Collective, Rodinia) and Indonesian bassist/multi-instrumentalist Tomi Simatupang (Whitefield Brothers). This is Dance Rock at the core with the possibilities to stretch out and go into psychedelic realms. The results, spread out over three 7" singles and pressed in a run of 1000 units each, speak for themselves. Every record comes with a download card for WAV files of all six tracks (vocals and instrumentals from each release) and point at a new direction for the music inspired by the great continent. One that takes a direction once mocked as derivative and asserts its importance on the globe's current musical stage."

KVERNBERG & THE TRONDHEIM SOLOISTS, OLA The Mechanical Fair 2LP
Jam-packed with a wellspring of harmonic slingshots, pumping beats and melodic rollercoasters, The Mechanical Fair drew comparisons to Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring upon its original release in 2014. It's apparent appeal to an surprisingly wide range of musical communities finally brought it right into DJ dance-wiz Todd Terje's hands. And make no mistake: the physicist's hands don't settle for an iPad, it craves vinyl. His wholehearted endorsement led the captain of the Olsen family to clear the rights, assemble his own killer remix and requisitioned Grammy-winning cutting engineer Matt Colton for a gorgeous double 180 gram, half-speed vinyl re-release of the orchestral epic. Originally written for a quintet including heavily merited jazz cats Erik Nylander, Ole Morten Vågan, Petter Vågan and Even Helte Hermansen in 2013, The Mechanical Fair expanded at the initiative of the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, growing bolder and more powerful with the addition of the adventurous and Grammy-winning chamber orchestra The Trondheim Soloists in 2014. Having just spearheaded seven genre blending shows in just six days as the "Artist in Residence" of 2016's prestigious Molde International Jazz Festival, the multi award-winning Norwegian violinist/multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Ola Kvernberg can look back at an already impressive recording and performing career. The once 17 year old jazz manouche violin sensation quickly and impatiently moved beyond the jazz realm for inspiration - resulting in seven albums as a solo artist, eight feature films as a movie score composer and countless additional recordings as a sideman. His list of collaborators range from jazz legends Pat Metheny and Joshua Redman, via post/prog-rock act Motorpsycho, to collaborations with world renowned novelists Lars Saabye Christensen and Jo Nesbø. His fearless attitude and relentless drive towards the boundaries of genres has given him a well-earned high standing on the Scandinavian scene today. The Mechanical Fair is a genre twisting magnum opus that reaches its true potential with this vinyl release.

PILGRIM JUBILEES, THE Crying Won't Help LP
"The Pilgrim Jubilee Singers aka The Pilgrim Jubilees signed with Peacock Records in 1962. They recorded many singles and a few albums during their tenure there. Crying Won't Help -- reissued here for the first time on CD -- is the last LP that they recorded for Peacock, and this is certainly a case of saving the best for last. The album features a wealth of great arrangements and singing, plus incredible playing from the musicians. The combination of an extremely funky bassist, chicken scratch rhythm and wah-wah guitar, greasy organ, honky tonk piano, and a solid drummer help to make this a very satisfying listening experience from beginning to end. LOVING SISTERS, THE The Sisters And Their Sons LP
"Gladys McFadden & The Loving Sisters were with Peacock from their start in 1962 until 1978. They embraced the new sounds early on. Their albums for Peacock are perhaps the most consistent of all of the groups of the time, when it comes to sounding like secular soul records. Gladys was the primary lead singer and wrote almost all of their material, often addressing social matters. She also produced many of their albums. Their 1974 album, The Loving Sisters And Their Sons is one of their finest. Lots of wah-wah guitar and funky grooves at various tempos. Standout tracks include 'Here We Go Again', which would have worked on an Aretha record. 'I Can't Feel At Home' has a lope-y feel to it. 'Joy' is a deliciously deep slow groove where Gladys shares the lead with her son, Leonard Givens. 'We're Soldiers' is a nice wah-wah driven groover. 'Forgiving Is Easier' is a driving call and response, with a nice breakdown with just vocals."

CROWNS OF GLORY, THE Won't It Be Grand LP
"The Crowns Of Glory had a brief run at Peacock in the early 1970s. Consisting of three male and three female singers, they had a deep, yet funky, sound to their music. There are three different leads on these tracks, and Billy J. Shepherd is the stand out of the lot. This album is worth purchasing just for the two tracks that feature Billy J. Shepherd. Their take on the Bill Withers classic 'Ain't No Sunshine' is fabulous, but 'Worried Mind' will blow your mind. The interaction between the lead, the harmonies, and the instrumentation makes this cut soul perfection. 'Christian', led by Debra Body is in the traditional gospel form, but the rhythm section brings it into a more soulful territory. She also does a fine job on Gladys Knight's 'I Don't Want To Do Wrong' and the title track. 'Lord Hold Me In Your Arms' is the first of three appearances of Len Martin as lead. His high tenor allows him to go from a Curtis Mayfield falsetto down to a Rance Allen-type growl."

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN Greatest Hits 2LP
Double LP version. 140 gram vinyl. Includes download code. Einstürzende Neubauten have discovered sounds beyond the pain barrier, the beauty of dissonance and the aesthetics of the scrapyard. They are regarded as the most important engines in the development of new musical strategies; Hardly another German band has characterized the music landscape as lastingly. Their influence on the music world was, and is, as great as their timeless character. Once fully set in motion - by West Berliners Blixa Bargeld, NU Unruh and Alexander Hacke in the early 1980s - Einstürzende Neubauten have pressed on regardless. Indeed since percussionist Rudolf Moser and former Die Haut guitarist Jochen Arbeit joined in 1997, the current Einstürzende Neubauten line-up has not only been their longest lasting; going on the evidence gathered here, it's arguably their broadest ranging and most fruitful partnership, with Rudi and Jochen always gamely responding to the musical challenges posed by NU Unruh's battery of invented instruments and devices. Along with multi-instrumentalist Alex Hacke, who took over bass after the departure of Mark Chung (after their 1992 album Tabula Rasa) and FM Einheit (during the recording of 1996's Ende Neu (POTOMAK 919821/919822)), they willingly switch between their chosen instruments and NU Unruh's inventions, sounding the depths, tapping, scratching and hammering out beats, or drawing haunting tones from the seemingly most unforgiving of source materials presented to them, invariably in the service of the song. The earliest track here is a newly mixed version of "Haus Der Lüge", the title track of their 1989 album Haus Der Lüge (POTOMAK 820001/820002); except it's now adorned with freshly recorded trombone and string parts, which the group wanted on the original but couldn't afford, so had to use synth simulations instead. Five tracks are taken from their 2000 album Silence Is Sexy (POTOMAK 957051/957052). During the 2000s, Einstürzende Neubauten's resourcefulness extended beyond the stage and the recording studio into the economics of alternative music practice. Two Greatest Hits tracks, "Dead Friends (Around The Corner)" and "Ein Leichtes Leises Säuseln", originated on their Supporters Album #1 (2003), which in publicly modified form became Perpetuum Mobile (Mute, 2004). Now as then as always, declares Greatest Hits's newest track "How Did I Die", "The difference makes the song".

RODAP, CLAUDE Beletronic 12"
Other-worldly Caribbean electronic dance floor cuts. Arousing prog-zouk and abstract futurism from the French West Indies, by synthesist Claude Rodap, released on vinyl for the first time. In the early eighties, a time where French Caribbean musicians were searching for their own sound, Claude Rodap mixed traditional gwo-ka, bel air, biguine with synthetic sounds, resulting in magical, adventurous outcome. Recorded in the nineties and in 2000, the three dreamy, sensuous tracks on Beletronic are the deliberate result of more than a decade of his experimentation.

ROSS, LEOPOLD ROSS AND BOBBY KRLIC, ATTICUS Almost Holy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP
"After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine's social and political institutions faced massive change, including an increasingly corrupt government and crippled infrastructure. A number of the nation's youth wound up homeless and addicted to a lethal cocktail of injected cold medicine and alcohol. Steve Hoover's documentary Almost Holy follows a pastor named Gennadiy Mokhnenko, who saves street kids, at times by forcible abduction, and brings them to his Pilgrim Republic rehabilitation center - the largest organization of its kind in the former Soviet Union. The film's depiction of a country in the grip of poverty, addiction, and warfare is made even more powerful by its captivating electronic score by award-winning composer Atticus Ross, his brother Leopold Ross, and Bobby Krlic (The Haxan Cloak)."

UNIFORM Ghosthouse 12"
"Uniform formed in New York City in 2013 when old friends Ben Greenberg (ex-The Men, Hubble, and the producer/engineer responsible for much of the Sacred Bones catalog) and Michael Berdan (ex-Drunkdriver, York Factory Complaint) reconnected and realized that they had evolved to a similar place musically. Wanting as intimate an experience as possible, they decided to keep the project a two-man show, eschewing a live rhythm section for programmed drums and low-end synths, augmented with Greenberg playing guitar and Berdan handling vocals. The collaboration quickly yielded a raw 12", followed by a full-length, Perfect World. The Ghosthouse 12" is the first Uniform release on Sacred Bones Records, and it will be followed by a full-length in early 2017. Ghosthouse shares a basic configuration with the previous Uniform releases, but the tools have evolved far beyond their initial drum machine and bass synth setup. These songs have grown from a broader palette of sounds - shots, explosions, implosions, impacts, ricochets, collapse; the sounds of conflict, war, and destruction that we witness every day. The result is the most sonically confrontational Uniform material to date, and Berdan's lyrics, largely inspired by his lifelong battle with insomnia and depression, match them for relentlessness."

VA Killed By Deathrock Vol. 2 CD
"After the initial blast of punk rock bands made their impression on the youth of the late 1970s, subgenres quickly emerged. Some preferred the faster, louder aggression of hardcore, others the angular danceability of post-punk, some the raw and more personal home-made sound of DIY, and so on. Looking back among and between these genres we now recognize various blends of punk, post-punk, goth rock, industrial, and DIY as 'deathrock'. In 2014, Sacred Bones Records launched the series Killed By Deathrock to document an entire scene of bands that haven't yet received proper recognition. This is the second volume of that series." "This long-overdue vinyl reissue of Yoko Ono's seminal, but massively under-appreciated Plastic Ono Band has all the makings of a classic rock nostalgia trip: Ono, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and free-jazz legend Ornette Coleman. All the pieces are here to stir up a dangerous amount of nostalgia. But once the needle drops, the record achieves something exactly perpendicular to nostalgia. Released in 1971, the album not only influenced the approach of other musicians for decades, it also sounds absolutely modern 44 years out, eternally fresh despite the forward march of time. LENNON/YOKO ONO, JOHN Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins (White Vinyl) LP
LP version. White vinyl. "Turns out the very sound of falling in love is just as abstract, subjective and loopy as the concept itself. Yoko Ono and John Lennon are two of history's greatest lovers, and Two Virgins is the document of the pair falling in love in real time. The album is a curious and amazing suite recorded over one weekend in Spring 1968 at Lennon's Kenwood home: Distant conversations; comedic role playing and footsteps; laughter, birdcalls and plunking piano lines; silly songs and space; tape delay stretching shrieks, bass rumbles and moans to the moon and back again. The now-iconic cover (featuring Ono and Lennon standing nude together) not-with-standing, nothing about Two Virgins is safe. It would be a risky move today for artists in the larger, pop-culture conversation just as it was a risky move in 1969. But this is an uncomfortably private, two-person dialogue about - and celebration of experimentation, inspiration and play. And these two souls bravely let us look through the keyhole."

FUSION FARM Rush Job CD
Shadoks Music present a reissue of Fusion Farm's Rush Job, originally released in 1971. After many years of trying to locate the band to properly reissue Rush Job, a daughter of one of the band members coincidentally found Shadoks through social media. The album originally was very limited release on the S.R.T label with a hand-sprayed cover, very much like Tony Caro & John's All On The First Day (1972). Originals are very rare, fetching high prices on the collectors market. This reissue includes tracks from the rare 1974 single Fat Judy/Gypsy Mountain Woman. Fusion Farm got radio play and played a lot of shows in London and the surrounding cities before heading off to Europe to gig constantly. Germany became a second home, in particular Frankfurt and Munich and they found favor playing at many US army air bases. Fusion Farm played the Frankfurt Festhalle, with a 15,000 capacity, supporting Bad Company and Black Oak Arkansas. This show is infamous because Black Oak Arkansas never showed up and a riot ensued, leaving the venue trashed. The band changed personnel several times but the core of the band and song-writing team of Bob Bett and Normal Ley remained constant. The band split in 1979 to pursue other projects. Rush Job includes snotty, Stooges-like psych songs, with great guitars, drums, cool vocals and bass. Some tracks are dreamy and some are very powerful British underground tunes.

"Not A B-Side" is an atmospheric cut with a fusion of percussive and electronic elements giving it an exotic feel. "Shandy's Eagle" shows a little more of the duo's experimental side, its trippy synth layers and soft bassline make for an ideal way to round off this eclectic EP.

"Recorded in Auckland in 1984, these archival tracks capture seminal New Zealand band This Kind Of Punishment's unique alchemy of poignant melody and four-track claustrophobia. The previously unreleased 'Radio Silence' offers an astringent, phantasmagoric comment on -- and perhaps retreat from -- the contemporaneous NZ scene. 'Reaching An End' (from legendary compilation Killing Capitalism With Kindness) is a classic in the mold later perfected on Peter Jefferies's solo output: unadorned piano blanketed by rich, wistful vocals, plucked strings and muffled drum beat. FALL, THE Hex Enduction Hour LP
"Hex Enduction Hour was originally conceptualized as the death knell for The Fall. Beleaguered by career uncertainty and guided by vague premonitions of collapse, Mark E. Smith declared that one full hour was needed to thoroughly and perhaps finally state his case with The Fall. This framework resulted in a true classic of the post-punk era and an album that gave The Fall their first taste of album chart success, thankfully removing surrender from the equation. Recorded in haste in both Iceland and England in late 1981, the performances on Hex Enduction Hour are among the band's most urgent and distinctive. The album begins with the severe provocation of 'The Classical' and the terse punk of 'Jawbone And The Air-Rifle,' but it's 'Hip Priest' that stands out as Smith's calling-card theme, a song that would become inextricable from his character (or perception thereof) in the years that followed. The elongated 'And This Day' fittingly positions the band as spell-casters, closing the hour by filling every conceivable bit of space with wild, primitive percussion and whimsical electric piano. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Hex Enduction Hour has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial release in 1982. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

FALL, THE Room To Live LP
"On Room To Live, The Fall take the hurried, all-or-nothing approach of their preceding Kamera Records releases to extreme ends. Forged via Mark E. Smith's continual disassembling of players and focus on previously unrehearsed material, the album collects The Fall's most experimental and improvisational recordings. As proclaimed on the album cover, 'Undilutable Slang Truth!' would be revealed throughout Room To Live. With the album's comparatively lo-fi production and always- teetering performances, the title track comes closest to a stab at pop (by The Fall's standards), built on fantastically bent saloon swaying under one of Smith's by-now characteristic dressing-downs of square life. 'Detective Instinct' is an unshakeable creeper, as languid and ominous as the band would get during the Marc Riley years. 'Marquis Cha Cha' is a post-punk rhumba, beginning with fury and then easing into something only The Fall could conjure. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Room To Live has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial release in 1982. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

SLAPP HAPPY (WITH FAUST) Sort Of LP+CD
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Includes CD. Edition of 500. Tapete present a reissue of Slapp Happy's Sort Of, originally released in 1972. Left-wing intellectual film critic Uwe Nettelbeck, who had good connections to Polydor, had set up his own studio in rural Wümme, disrupting the mainstream with pioneering sounds by the likes of Faust, inventively engineered by the "boffin's boffin", Kurt Graupner. By the time Anthony Moore, one of Nettelbeck's charges, approached his third album in 1972, Polydor's accounting department was fast losing patience with all that experimentalism. So Nettelbeck suggested to Moore that he might write some straight songs (relatively speaking), which in turn prompted Moore to invite his old school friend Peter Blegvad over to Hamburg to form the band Slapp Happy. Dagmar Krause, a young singer from Hamburg and Moore's girlfriend, joined them both on their trip to Wümme to record what was to become Sort Of, using Faust as a backing band. A second album emerged, eschewing, even more clearly than the Sort Of, the heavy rock idioms of the era for an anti-macho playfulness that presaged the sparseness of post punk and the dry jangle of early indie. Nonetheless, Polydor pulled the plug, and Uwe Nettelbeck signed Faust and Slapp Happy over to Richard Branson's nascent Virgin imprint. At the Manor, they would rerecord their second album with UK musicians, bells and whistles for a 1974 release as Slapp Happy, burying the original version in the vaults not to reemerge until 1980 as Acnalbasac Noom (TR 356CD/LP). After being asked which version they prefer today, the band does not take long to choose: "For the more direct approach it would have to be Acnalbasac Noom. It had a naïve spontaneity to it. Naïve in the nicest sense of the word." CD version includes one bonus track and comes in an edition of 500.

Dagmar Krause, a young singer from Hamburg and Moore's girlfriend, joined them both on their trip to Wümme to record what was to become Sort Of (TR 355CD/LP), using Faust as a backing band. At the Manor, they would rerecord their second album with UK musicians, bells and whistles for a 1974 release as Slapp Happy, burying the original version in the vaults not to reemerge until 1980 as Acnalbasac Noom. After being asked which version they prefer today, the band does not take long to choose: "For the more direct approach it would have to be Acnalbasac Noom. It had a naïve spontaneity to it. Naïve in the nicest sense of the word."

JAY DEE Jay Deelicious: The Delicious Vinyl Years - Originals, Remixes, & Rarities 2xCassette
"Jay Dee, aka J Dilla, emerged as a hip hop producer to be reckoned with in 1995 when his name was attached to the first single from The Pharcyde's eagerly anticipated sophomore album Labcabincalifornia. Hit play on his first Pharcyde production 'Runnin' and you have the launch point of a producer's career that mesmerized, titillated and expanded the domes of hip hop fans for the next decade. Jay Deelicious: Originals, Remixes & Rarities documents Jay Dilla's early production on Delicious Vinyl. Working closely with The Pharcyde and Michael 'Mike Floss' Ross, (Delicious Vinyl's founder), Jay Dee was instrumental in keeping The Pharcyde's second album as ear poppin' and bugged as their maiden classic Bizarre Ride To The Pharcyde, stepping up big time after the group parted ways with 'Bizarre' producer J-Swift. In addition to original productions and remixes for 'Labcabin', Jay Dee skillfully worked with the label on incredible mixes for the Brand New Heavies, as well as unreleased remixes for former BNH singer, N'Dea Davenport. From the jazzed out Rhodes syncopation of 'Sometimes' featuring Q-Tip, to the crazy cutting up of 'Got To Give It Up' for 'Saturday Night' featuring Mos Def, Jay Dee shows there's no tempo he can't freak on some otherworldly jazzed up funk tip. So put on your head phones and take a trip into the early work of a hip hop master."

BORED YOUNG ADULTS Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach 12"
" 'Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach' begins with a funereal horn, and the pace of what follows resembles a procession more than the stampede typical of a Blawan record. To be clear, it still bangs. Roberts' reserve is relative, as 'Check Up From The Neck Up' demonstrates. Built from rusted percussion and an undulating drone, 'Check Up From The Neck Up' has a skipping gait that recalls Roberts' early explorations of UK dance music. But Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach isn't a comprehensive synthesis of old and new. It casts a narrow focus on texture -- the dirtier, the better. On the title track and 'Check Up From The Neck Up,' that can be a little drab. 'But We Need This Bench,' however, bonds earthy tones to sparkling chimes, coiled around the track like Christmas lights, and sweeping synth pads. It's a glimpse of a producer lightening up, not slowing down. As Bored Young Adults, Roberts takes an opportunity to explore another side of himself." --Resident Advisor.

INVISIBL SKRATCH PIKLZ The 13th Floor 2LP
"Universally acknowledged as some of the most skilled scratch DJs in the world, turntable legends the Invisibl Skratch Piklz are releasing their first ever full-length album: The 13th Floor. After nearly 16 years apart, original members Qbert, Shortkut, and D-Styles have come together again to record The 13th Floor. Composed with a heavy jazz sound in mind, the roughly 35-minute LP is an amazing homage to what true DJing is - and the perfect embodiment of the iconic Invisibl Skratch Piklz sound. Recorded using three DJ mixers and three turntables, the album showcases the trio's deft skills and inspired talent, and displays how they have progressed and perfected their sound all while pushing the art of turntablism into brave new dimensions. The 13th Floor deftly blends the abstract artistry of scratching with undeniable musicality: lush synths, warm horns, solid basslines, and fat vibes. It's easy to feel 'Fresh Out of FVCKS' - a track that creeps up the keys and slowly shoves its way in. 'Kenny G's Perm' is surprisingly relaxed, a mellow and sludge-covered jam. From the aggressive roughness of 'Polka Fist Pump' to the thick sound of 'The Freestyle Fanatic,' the LP flips, knocks, twists, and finds truth on the turntables. Fusing elements of jazz, rock and hip hop, the album demonstrates true artistry, creative composition, and masterful turntablism. The 13th Floor solidifies that no matter how much time has passed, the Invisibl Skratch Piklz are still among the most innovative musicians in the world."

KAPOTE Get Down Brother 12"
Kapote loves funk and Blaxploitation movies. Kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his basslines - melodic basslines create sexual tension. Kapote adds a few warm, jazzy Rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverb and filtering. In the highest points this music is pure endorphin. It is four-to-the-floor - but it has a soulful analog sound. Kapote says he was listening to records from old Detroit label Red Planet and Parisian downtempo pioneers Motorbass and La Funk Mob while making this record. And yes, the vibe is there. Brame & Hamo remix "Uhh Baby".

MAUTHAUSEN ORCHESTRA Murderfuck LP
Urashima present the first vinyl version of Mauthausen Orchestra's Murderfuck, originally released on cassette in 1983. Tape after tape, Mauthausen Orchestra, aka Pierpaolo Zoppo, constituted in a few years, the backbone of what is known as an alienating and extremist style, made of metal nightmares and sonic torture, often dilated, dissected and extended up to the limit of endurance. They've become one of the most important musical projects of the Italian industrial scene and contributing to the birth of the power electronics and harsh noise across the globe. Murderfuck is brutal with harsh tones that cut through the air. This amazing reissue LP is a co-production between Officina Fonografica Italiana and Urashima. "Since 1982, the Mauthausen Orchestra, Pierpaolo Zoppo being the mastermind, have developed their brutal tendencies, reaching, by the last productions, the highest standards of sonic power. With Necrofellatio (UMA 101LP, 1983) begins the flirtation with the Aquilifer Sodality sexual impetus, and the M.O. support the sonorous stimulation offered by The Sodality with their elating power electronics mastery. Their complete devotion to extreme sexual pleasures makes their ultra-violent attacks the ultimate enjoyments." -- Amen magazine, September, 1985. Mastered from the original tape. HATERS, THE Future Cheers LP
Urashima present the first vinyl version of The Haters's Future Cheers, originally released on cassette in 1986. The Haters are a noise and conceptual art troupe from the United States. Founded in 1979, they are one of the earliest and most well-known acts in the modern noise scene. The group is primarily the work of the Hollywood, California-based musician, artist, writer, and film-maker GX Jupitter-Larsen, accompanied by a constantly changing line-up of other "members," usually local experimental musicians and artists in whatever town in which a Haters performance happens to take place. Future Cheers was an early astonishing cassette remastered and remixed for this reissue by GX in Los Angeles, 2016. "I destroy out of joy, not despair. I don't destroy out of anger. I destroy out of curiosity. I tear things apart to see what makes them tick. I want to take time apart to see what makes it tick-tock. I enjoy destroying everything because I enjoy leaving nothing un-destroyed. My noise acts as a kind of audio account or authentic evidence of this ceaseless, perpetual bittersweet happiness we call entropy." -- GX. Pressed on 140 gram black vinyl with a black label and a black inner sleeve. Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on a black cardboard sleeve with an original picture. Edition of 200.

MERZBOW Lowest Music.2 LP
Urashima present the first vinyl version of Merzbow's Lowest Music.2, originally recorded and released on cassette in 1982. Merzbow stands as the most important artist in noise music and is the moniker of Masami Akita, born in Tokyo in 1979. Inspired by dadaism and surrealism, Akita took the name for his project from German artist Kurt Schwitters's pre-war architectural assemblage "The Cathedral of Erotic Misery" or "Merzbau". Just as Schwitters attacked the entrenched artistic traditions of his time with his revolutionary avant-garde collages, so too would Akita challenge the contemporary concept of what is called music. Merzbow would draw further influence from the futurist movement. Not only would he embrace the futurists's love of technology and the machine civilization, he would push their fondness for noise to the very boundaries of the extreme. Working in his home, he quickly gained notoriety as a purveyor of a musical genre composed solely of pure, unadulterated noise. Consequently, in 1980 Masami founded the first noise label, Lowest Music and Arts. In this early period he released Lowest Music.2 on cassette using a 4 track reel tape recorder with different loops, recorded by a Mono-aural hand tape recorder. In 1990, Australian legendary label Extreme reissued a new version of the cassette, remixed by Masami Akita by itself and included it in an amazing 50 CD boxset titled Merzbox (2000). No changes of pitch were made in the mastering process. Pressed on 140 gram black vinyl with a black label and a black inner sleeve. Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on a black cardboard sleeve. Includes insert with original tape replica cover. Edition of 200.

JUNKO & THOMAS TILLY Wild Protest LP
Junko and Thomas Tilly present Wild Protest, produced by Emanuele Carcano for Vent des Forets Art Center in France. Each year, Pascal Yonet, director of the Art Center Vent des Forets, invites between six to eight artists to confront a natural forest environment and to create a unique work, more or less ephemeral. The project is born from the desire to bring together two sound artists, a brutiste performer and a field recorder, on a territory that still resounds with cries of two world wars. In July 2016, at Vent des Forets, Junko made a series of cries performances in the woods, wild bursts into the Meuse forest with the howling known from the Japanese noise scene. Out of words and meaning, pure expression of the body, its shrill cries are full of freedom and revolt. The sound of his voice rending sounds of the surrounding nature is recorded by Thomas Tilly, who distills this first sound material to compose a piece revealing an exceptional audio experience. Long time tracking in the forest and around it allowed Junko and Thomas to find the most relevant and surprising places for its outlets. Registration cries, Thomas could capture the immediate or distant sound environment which then forms the basis of its original composition. Each cry is geo-localized, the track list gives the GPS coordinates of each. The opening, which was held July 11, 2015, allowed 70 people to participate in a collective cry. Junko is a member of the cult group of the Japanese noise scene, Hijokaidan (group formed around the guitarist Jojo Hiroshige). Junko joined the group in 1982, participating in the development of an increasingly radical group. Thomas Tilly uses the microphone and speaker as key creative tools. His work is centered on the study of the sound environment and his confrontation with the space in which it exists.

OHNO/YOU AND EXPLOSION BAND, YUJI Isn't It Lupintic?: Lupin The Third TV Special Original Sound Track LP
Victory present a reissue of Isn't It Lupintic?: Lupin The Third TV Special Original Sound Track, originally released on CD in 1999. Yuji Ohno is a Japanese jazz musician, principally known for his musical scoring of Japanese anime. His most well-known works are for the anime-television series Lupin The Third and the feature film The Castle Of Cagliostro (1979). Ohno is also well-known as a member of a jazz trio with bassist Miroslav Vitous and drummer Lenny White. The tracks collected here for Lupin The Third are oozing with seventies cool, exemplified by opener "Theme From Lupin III" where the snares shuffle, the pianos tease and the upright bass walks with all the swagger of a French master thief. Great funky tunes from the Japanese jazz master.

SCHNTZL Schntzl 2LP
A fresh new breeze is blowing through the Belgian music scene, taking the form of SCHNTZL. This duo of Hendrik Lasure and Casper Van De Velde is cheerfully pushing the boundaries of traditional jazz, armed with only piano and drums. The two young top talents are experimenting with minimalism, electronics and classical music, in their search for the preservation of fragility: how can strict composition and free improvisation be combined? How do acoustic and electronic elements fit together? The unique way in which they answer these questions leaves enough space for silence and takes the listener to the essence of music. Their first full album Schntzl was recorded by producer Koen Gisen (Dans Dans, Flying Horseman, An Pierlé, Robbing Millions). For fans of Nils Frahm, Radiohead and Keith Jarrett.

MEN, THE Devil Music LP
"The Men are Rich Samis, Kevin Faulkner, Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro. We created Devil Music in our practice space over a weekend in January. We wanted to give ourselves something enjoyable to listen to with this record... Something that had our personality in it, not just another record to get reviewed, to get into festivals, to get on TV, to participate in some sort of endless, winless game. This isn't a campaign. Jordan Lovelace (member of Pampers) engineered and recorded Devil Music. Jonathan Schenke (member of Eaters and engineer of 100s of records) mastered the sessions on a Neve console in New York. These fine gentlemen knew we were after a raw four track sound. They used our strokes on the tape to get us where we wanted to go. Every record sounds a bit different than you think it will. Some newer things came along for the ride like cassette cut ups, damaged vocal cords from years of yelling, a saxophone and of course the ten new songs. Some old ideas are still in the mix: the tracks were all done live, including the vocals, the packaging/artwork was designed and produced by us."

RIDER SHAFIQUE I-Dentity/Freedom Cry 12"
"The terrific opening salvo of this thrilling prospect of a label, imprint of the eleven-strong, Bristol-based collective. Intensely intimate, dread ruminations about racism, being and the UK -- rooted in the dub poetry of LKJ and Mutubaruka -- in tense, widescreen settings by Amos Childs, out of Jabu and O$VMV$M, and Sam Kidel, moonlighting from The Death Of Rave. Hotly recommended."
