ALVARIUS B. With a Beaker on the Burner and an Otter in the Oven - Vol. 1 Natural Wonder LP
Alvarius B. on With a Beaker on the Burner and an Otter in the Oven - Vol. 1 Natural Wonder: "Volume One of three new LPs I am releasing simultaneously called Natural Wonder, this is the more melodic, savvy one and you might like it. Maybe I'm lying and it's the innocent, straight record so maybe you should get Vol 3 (ABDT 059C-LP) instead if you're in a darker mood. But that's not really true either. Or maybe it's one of those records that grows on you the more you continue playing it... like a cancer. The musicians who played on all three albums don't deserve to be involved in these kamikaze promotional descriptions so don't blame them for any of this. They played so well on these records, in fact they play much better than you do, and their performances deserve a 'Whammy,' which is the awards show where I'm in charge and the winners get to shoot members of the music industry academy dead in their seats. That's where it's all headed you know. . . . The modern world of record making has become so fucking dull and obedient that someone has to ram a poison dagger up your asses and since you're all under hypnosis, I promise you won't feel a thing. I could pay Dougie Jones to write this piece to match your intellect or hire a publicity company to promote it but who really gives a fuck? I'm still making records for myself and the rest of humanity doesn't speak my language anyway. By deciding to write my own album promos, I can perform some market research. For example, this album description text will undoubtedly be copy/pasted by most online retailers onto their respective sites because they don't write their own new album reviews or get too excited about music, they simply want to create the illusion that they're in business to sell records. So I could put something like: Fuck all website retailers that copy/paste this description onto their site because they are too fucking cheap, lazy or chicken shit to have an opinion to write individual album reviews -- and they probably wouldn't even notice while doing it. Anyway, back to my new album. These songs are pretty good, most likely way better than your songs, and I don't even have time to be a real songwriter, so what does that say about you? It says that you suck. And most of you do. But you should buy my new three album set because it's probably as good or better than any other LPs that will be released this year. But if you aren't ready to go all-in with confidence, then forget it. I don't want any mudskipper sub-species of the crayfish to buy my records. There are always a few speculators who'll pick up the extra copies you won't buy anyway." One-time pressing; Includes printed inner sleeve with lyrics and credits.

YANDOM Mean Motive 12"
Yandom are not new to the scene. But then again -- they are. The project has been kicked off by Yannick Labbé and Dominik Marz. Yandom's productions are discoid excursions to the dark side -- a sound spanning from left-field Italo-esque productions to straight-up techno-bangers. As DJs, Yandom deliver an infectious and very musical freestyle approach, dropping anything from techno to vintage classics and held together by a strong foundation of electronica. A Yandom-set is anything but random -- and yes, they do look as good in reality as on the photos. Includes Daniel Bortz remix.

MEMNON SA Lemurian Dawn CD
Memnon Sa return with Lemurian Dawn, a cosmic journey through space, time, and myth. Black ops missions witness the binary sunrise on a forgotten world. Pan dimensional spacecraft hover over ancient pyramids on worlds undreamed of. The guitar-driven doom metal sound of the acclaimed debut Citadel (2014) has been replaced here by a myriad of analog synthesizers, ancient world instruments, throat singing and strings. Lemurian Dawn channels new age meditational works, film soundtracks, and cosmic jazz from the '70s and '80s. The result could be the soundtrack to a lost 1970s European animation sci-fi film; warm analog sounds hint at cosmic foreboding and sinister forces unseen. The album was recorded over a month-and-a-half at Misha Hering's Holy Mountain Studios in Hackney, London, and mixed using almost exclusively analog equipment to 1/2 inch tape. It was mastered by legendary mastering engineer Dave Cooley at Elysium Masters in LA. "The references are very fleeting and hard to pin down, which gives the feeling of never quite getting your bearings. This is a good thing. Goblin, Pharaoh Sanders, Alexandro Jodorowsky, psyche folk, even the Incredible String Band, present cosmic vibes with precision." --GoldFlakePaint.

BAIRD, LAURA I Wish I Were A Sparrow CD
"With a musical timeline dating back to her early childhood, Laura Baird is an exceptionally talented multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, best known for her projects with her sister, Meg, as The Baird Sisters, and guitarist Glenn Jones. Baird's own sound stems from the Appalachian folk tradition, and she connects to it via family lineage -- her great-great uncle I.G. Greer's folk recordings for the Library of Congress are a large influence. Also woven in are classical composers like Bach and Satie, and modern day musicians such as Opal and Yo La Tengo. With this debut solo album, I Wish I Were A Sparrow, Baird plays odes to the traditions from which she learned, combining Appalachian balladry and the roughness of old field recordings, but there is also a dose of dreaminess and solitude that captures sleepy central New Jersey. This is where she departs from tradition, leaving the communal origins of folk music to capture the singular self. The lyrics also present an amalgam of old and new, with half of the songs, including 'Dreadful Wind and Rain' and 'Pretty Polly,' being passed down from the folk tradition, and the other half, including 'Wind Wind' and 'Love Song From The Earth To The Moon,' coming from Baird's own hand. While the most salient part of her previous Baird Sisters project was the melding of familial voices and various instruments, Baird's solo effort is centered around the combination of her virtuosic banjo playing and prominent but airy vocals."

VA Tokyo Flashback 2LP
Black Editions present the first ever vinyl edition of Tokyo Flashback, the legendary 1991 compilation that defined the Tokyo psychedelic movement and first brought it to the outside world. Tokyo Flashback is one of the most iconic compilations in the history of underground music. Originally released by Japan's P.S.F. Records, Tokyo Flashback defined the breathtakingly unique and previously obscured musical movement that had been developing in Japan since the late 1970s. The compilation features some of the earliest released recordings by Keiji Haino, High Rise, Masaki Batoh's Ghost, White Heaven, Fushitsusha, Kousokuya, and Marble Sheep. It captures the excitement and energy of a Tokyo awash in Technicolor and deep blacks; the music echoing krautrock, psychedelic freak-outs, garage, and no wave. At the same time it reveals astonishing, totally idiosyncratic expansions of rock music. In time, Tokyo Flashback expanded to a synonymous nine volume series that, over the following two decades, unveiled Japan's ever evolving soundscapes to the rest of the world. Tokyo Flashback is a defining statement of late 20th century Japanese psychedelic music and an essential primer to the world of P.S.F. All tracks are exclusive, this edition features the first time translation of the original liner notes. Black Editions' deluxe edition is entirely re-mastered and marks the first release of Tokyo Flashback outside of Japan and it's first ever vinyl issue. Also features Verzerk. Newly created artwork and design expanding on the original by Rob Carmichael at SEEN Sudio; Housed in custom printed deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket and slipcase, including full color printed inner sleeves and inserts with soft touch and spot UV gloss finishes; Remastered and cut by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound; Pressed to high quality vinyl at RTI.

2017 repress. This is the second soundtrack rendering of Hannes Stöhr's film Berlin Calling. Paul Kalkbrenner's Berlin Calling Vol. 2 continues to accompany the protagonists from Stöhr's moving and somewhat tragic depiction while surfacing a humorous and well-spirited undertone. "Bengang" transmits more of a classic house-element with subtle hints of percussion while "Torted" pulls the track's speed, making it an uncompromising energy-booster.

MOEBIUS SCHNEIDER Kunsthalle Dusseldorf 12"
To mark its 40th anniversary in 2007 the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf organized the Düsseldorf Sounds Festival of Art and Music from Düsseldorf. One particularly noteworthy event was staged in the Kunsthalle's cinema auditorium: the only Dieter Moebius and Stefan Schneider collaboration ever. Dieter Moebius (1944-2015) was a member of the group Cluster with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Stefan Schneider is the co-founder of the seminal neo-krautronic bands Kreidler and To Rococo Rot. The two musicians met briefly in Berlin to discuss the performance. On the night of the concert, they improvised everything.

BROCKMANN // BARGMANN Licht CD
Esteemed for their improvisational audacity, hurtling forwards to a motorik beat, there is another side to the Berlin "Krautrock Guerilla" trio Camera which sees them explore landscapes of sound. This is exactly what the two founder members Franz Bargmann (guitar) and Timm Brockmann (keyboards) present their purely instrumental debut album Licht. Harmonic and melancholic, tender and tough, planar and rhythmic -- yet never dull. In 2013, Franz Bargmann left Camera to join La Düsseldorf drummer Hans Lampe as the live band for Michael Rother (NEU!, Harmonia). A year after Bargmann's departure, Brockmann also quit, in his case to devote himself primarily to studio work. This led him first to Boris Wilsdorf, engineer and "in-house" producer for Einstürzenden Neubauten since the year 2000. Brockmann later took on the role of personal engineer for the Tiger Lillies. When Timm Brockmann and Franz Bargmann were ready to record the Licht album, they turned to Tiger Lillies singer Martyn Jacques, who set them up in his studio. The album documents an intense journey of exploration into sound, with improvisation as its compass. Stylistic barriers pale into insignificance for Brockmann // Bargmann. Their sound is warm and compact, channeled through analog synthesizers, pianos, and guitars. Occasionally an open room microphone draws the listener right into the recording studio. Brockmann // Bargmann display the utmost respect for their musical antecedents or pioneering predecessors and do so in the most diverting fashion. Cluster are often alluded to in reverential terms, whilst a hint of Jean- Michel Jarre shines through at certain moments. Sometimes Brockmann // Bargmann align themselves with contemporaries such as Ulrich Schnauss or Rival Consoles, elsewhere they revert to the ferocity of Camera. The time they spent in the studio allowed plenty of scope for experimentation: material already recorded was rearranged, layered vertically or side-by-side. Random occurrences and transformation processes were embraced, as exemplified by the track "Prisma". Whilst a drum computer comes into play here and there, drummer Achim Färber (Automat, Project Pitchfork) was invited to bring his rhythms to the track entitled "Schatten". Towering tribal drum patterns collide with sub bass and guitar drones. The density increases constantly, subtly, evoking images of escalation and destruction before the sonic walls ultimately dissolve into ethereal "delay".

DUDS Of A Nature Or Degree CD
"When I was first told about Duds, it came with the considered opinion that the guys were far from what you'd call 'careerists'. 'They don't take themselves too seriously' was another comment. I could have taken this as a warning that they weren't in it for the right reasons -- but that couldn't be further from the truth. From my perspective Duds simply won't bend over backwards to 'get on'. They do what they do and you can take it or leave it. I took it -- with both hands... with a vice-like grip. They have the invention and urgency of Edinburgh legends The Fire Engines. The Post-Punk ethic. Short songs, short sets = short album. 'They're one of the most thrilling bands I've seen in years -- and the fact that they're releasing this brilliant piece of work on the Castle Face label adds the last piece of a perfect 'outsider' jigsaw puzzle. LA BAND DEL BRASILIANO Vol. 2 LP
LP version. The Tuscany big band La Band Del Brasiliano is back for their second studio album, Vol. 2, following Vol. 1 released in 2013. The band draw on the retro tradition of Italian easy listening, funk, and sexy comedy, presenting a set rich in sung songs and with a large number of original tracks compared to Vol. 1, as well as with the contribution of bows, percussions, and a complete brass section. In Vol. 2, you can locate three lines: One that develops the soul beat of the band, shamelessly retro in the musical and textual approach: mostly captured in straightforward songs, like "Impossibile", "Hey Ragazzo", and "Preparati Bambina", are a blend of rock n' roll and raw soul, with the two voices of Serena Altavilla (Solki, Mariposa, Calibro 35) and Davide Arnetoli. The other is a romantic soul, tied to passion and jealousy, that is expressed best in the almost noir atmosphere of the triptych "Un'ora In Più", "Il Tema Della Gelosia", and "Anna - La Domenica". But even in "La Verità" the story of emancipation and freedom is present, with musical veins from spy story. The third line is funk and eroticism, as in "Ti Voglio", the favorite Italian disco song of the band which anticipates the release of the album as a whole -- the sulfur "Eclisse Twist" from Antonioni's masterpiece, "Giovani Di Nulla" and "92° Minuto", conceived as imaginary characters of TV programs.

CIPRIANI, STELVIO A Bay Of Blood (Ecologia Del Delitto/Reazione A Catena) LP
A Bay Of Blood (1971) is a film directed by Mario Bava, known for explicitly inspiring the Friday The 13th saga as well as for being the forerunner of the slasher genre, is undoubtedly one of the most inspirational masters of horror cinema. His magical use of camera zoom, off-field, and out-of-focus, and cynical and crude death set pieces, make it a masterpiece in which every scene exudes very personal and expressive poetry. Stelvio Cipriani's score, which develops a rich sequence of different themes and genres, and all accented by the evocative melodies and excellent orchestrations of the maestro, is brilliantly supported by the excellent rhythm performance of Enzo Restuccia on drums and Mandrake Som on the tumba and bongos. It is the voodoo-style percussion and violin that introduces the splendid original theme played by the maestro himself who plays piano, celestial, spinetta, harpsichord, and organ in the arc of the soundtrack. All in all, 21 tracks that make up the score: "Evelyn Theme", the bossa nova "Due Amanti", the dramatic and psychedelic "Un Cadavere Nel Lago", the Italian-style samba of "Giovani e Liberi", "Shake Giradischi", whose title is well representative, the tension the pursuit of "Inseguimento E Uccisione", the abstraction of "Ritrovamento Dei Cadaveri", and so many others. ALESSANDRONI, ALESSANDRO Devil's Nightmare (La Terrificante Notte Del Demonio) LP
Directed by Patrice Romme, The Devil's Nightmare (1971) was an Italian-Belgian production and featured main performers Jean Servais alongside a sensual Erika Blanc; also noteworthy is the disturbing presence of the graceful and filiform silhouette of Daniel Emilfork in the role of Satan. The film's components are typical of the Euro-horror genre of the time: a gothic castle, eroticism, and bloody murders -- all in a spectral and dense photograph. It is the music of maestro Alessandro Alessandroni, who needs no introduction, to indelibly mark the listener, starting with the hypnotic, psychedelic opening theme to which the harpsichord and his faithful Fender Stratocaster add the acid and fuzz, overlapping the silly wordless vocals of his companion Giulia De Mutiis. In the ranking of the 100 Best Horror Soundtracks, compiled by FACT Magazine, The Devil's Nightmare is ranked ninth. First time on vinyl; Edition of 500 (hand-numbered).

TREES SPEAK Trees Speak 2LP
Trees Speak is an experimental rock band that transcend mainstream influences by incorporating elements of avant-garde, neo-psychedelic, minimalism, art, and electronic -- along with violin-bowed guitar, Theremin, and a glut of effects pedals, and it's an ear-bending rush of lush soundscape. Trees Speak -- as much a sound laboratory as a rock and roll band -- is the musical venture of acclaimed visual artist musician Daniel Martin Diaz (formerly of Blind Divine and Crystal Radio). For the debut double-LP, Trees Speak is joined by Michael Glidewell (Black Sun Ensemble), Gabriel Sullivan (XIXA, Giant Sand), Connor Gallaher (Myrrors, Cobra Family Picnic), Damian Diaz (Human Error), and Julius Schlosburg (Jeron White Acoustic Trio). The studio itself should also take top billing, because in the tradition of krautrockers Can and Bitches Brew-era Miles Davis (1970), the band takes its winding, incandescent motoric rock and roll improvisations and edits them into coherent compositions using the mixing desk after recording. And that's where the sound lab half of the equation appears. The end result is flowing and droning ambient proto-punk reminiscent of fellow travelers NEU!, Stereolab, , and Cluster -- translucent jams for a virtual autobahn. Trees Speak on the album: "Our intention is to create music with an unrehearsed minimalist approach performing simple beats, riffs, and sequences that take one inward. We attempt create a sonic environment to set one's mind free and to become aware of the nuances of tone, melody, and structure. We organize our recording equipment with the same approach, in a transparent manner. Our recorded performances are never rehearsed. Our belief is that a brilliant rehearsal is a lost opportunity to capture a magical moment. We are chasing the mystery of music and tone. We let the musical performance sculpt its own destiny and create imperfect perfection. Our tool of creation is the anxiety one feels when they are unrehearsed or prepared for a performance. We believe this approach brings us closer to the authentic self. The result is genuine music without an agenda that captures the unfiltered spirit." Recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repairs, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a five-day period at Sacred Machine Studio and Dust & Stone Studio. Mastered by LOUD (United Kingdom). Clear vinyl; Includes 12" double-sided print, 5x5" postcards, and two stickers. Edition of 250.

GOBI, LEILA 2017 LP
LP version. Standing beside the Niger River esplanade in downtown, Bamako Leila Gobi waves to people in the passing cars. She smiles and laughs with them. Walking down the street she is greeted warmly by strangers. From the distant provincial city Menaka, she has become a successful artist here in the capitol of Mali. 2017 is Leila Gobi's second album on Clermont Music. It was recorded in Hampathe Bah Studio, on the second floor of a group of buildings off the main road in a suburb of western Bamako. The sessions were intimate. The tracks were laid without effects, clean. Leila wanted to produce an album that brought a new dimension to her music. The problem was how to create this new sound with only the basic tools available in Mali. It is almost impossible for musicians there to find the equipment available to the average westerner. The talent is there, just not the hardware. And electric power failures and poor communications infrastructure interrupt regularly. The final sounds were found in the studio while mixing in the synthesizers and electronic effects. Tracks were mixed and mastered in Bamako, New York, and Los Angeles. Remaining faithful to the underlying roots of the music, 2017 bridges genres. The album forges the origins of trance, beats, and loops with new technology, a fusion of many influences. And across it all, Leila Gobi's unmistakable voice shines through. Personnel: Leila Walet Gobi - vocals; Khalil M. Touré - guitars; Amadou Dembélé - bass; Abdourhamane Salaha - calabash, conga, percussion.

HNQO The Old Door LP
Henrique Oliveira, aka HNQO, is the man responsible for the exciting full album The Old Door on D.O.C. HNQO is one of the fastest rising young stars in the techno, house, and indie dance scene in Brazil. Causing much attention and hype with his recent track "Balinese Death", featured in Magnum Vol. I (DOC 011LP, 2016), and having reached the #1 spot at Hot Creations Top selling single, HNQO introduces his first album, The Old Door, influenced by Marlin Stimming and Anders Trentemøller. A weird string sound marks the opening of "The OId Door". By mixing old sounds with new ideas, while recording different instruments, the track shows HNQO's life and it features Urzula Amen on vocals. "The Death Of The Elephant" is a soundtrack to remind us how destructive human kind has been to the nature. Using sounds of pizzicato violin, "40's Cartoon" take you on a journey through the artist's imagination. The album is filled with the Henrique life moments during the year it took to produce the album. For example, in "Egyptian Lover", HNQO describes how nice it would have been to have a lover flying overnight. On this track, Russian singer Cotry interprets the lyrics. "Fallen Angel" is a dramatic piece telling a story still about flying. "If" is another collaboration with the amazing Urzula Amen. As the end nears, "Light A Cigarette" reaches a melancholic state where all melodies were recorded with eyes shut and in complete darkness; A spiritual moment that became Henrique's favorite track of this project -- the scratch of a match, the flame and then a foggy synth that releases all the feelings in sound waves. The album cover was inspired on a door that HNQO was able to enter by playing certain keys on his synths, percussions and strings that allowed him to reach an organic level while making it all a bit more human in terms of groove construction. To get a better feel of what this album has to say, HNQO invites you to open The Old Door.

NOT WAVING Good Luck CD
Alessio Natalizia, aka Not Waving, rides the wave of a lifetime on his magnum opus, Good Luck. The London-based Italian artist's second album for Diagonal is an emotional but fiercely optimistic album of skewed cathartic dance pop written in the midst of these dark and uncertain times (made perhaps more uncertain by the recent birth of his first son). It represents the most ambitious album in his own unique catalogue, a discography that features acclaimed work as part of Banjo Or Freakout and Kompakt techno duo Walls -- plus half a decade spent at the axis of underground electronics via his own Ecstatic label and his recent, raved-up output for Diagonal. This latest record sees Natalizia fine-tuning 20 years of recording and rave experience into a vibrant, pop-ready statement that's never felt so necessary. It abandons the sensitive streak hinted at on Animals (DIAG 025CD/LP, 2016), his debut LP for Diagonal, to pursue a creative hunch for concision and social unity. This new perspective drives the album's flux of emotions and guides what some may find to be a utopian outlook, wrapping his trademark experimental urges, clever song arrangements, and winking edits in a larger narrative. After all, rave 'floors were conceived for many as a way to forget/abandon the dark undercurrents of late '80s political turmoil. Good Luck is constructed as an album proper and follows a novel narrative: from the ego-pinching computer punk of "Me Me Me", which jabs it into action, to the new wave thrust of "Tool [I Don't Give A Shit]" and the ambient flush of "Roll Along With The Pain Of It All [I'll Text U]", Natalizia clearly delights in taking us on a frenzied ride, but he never forgets his fondness for contemporary club culture (see the fulminating iridescent EBM-pop of "Where Are We" -- with Montréalais minimal wave chanteuse Marie Davidson guesting on vocals -- or the acidic punk jabs of "Watch Yourself"). Good Luck is a thrillingly positive record; it's delicious, sweet, creamy, and wonderful. And that's the thing: even the title feels like a much-needed injection of optimism, a return to the utopian ideals of rave. Contemporary politics/culture/life/love/music/media seem to be infected by a feeling of impending dread -- of fear, alienation, and division. It feels like there has never been a more important time for a record like this. Artwork by Guy Featherstone. Mastered and cut by Matt Colton.

RODHAD Anxious 2LP
Double LP version. Rødhåd's debut album Anxious sees the artist step away from the dancefloor and further develop the narrative qualities of his beautiful soundscapes. It was the natural next step to present the sound he began cultivating with his recent EPs Kinder Der Ringwelt (2015) and Söhne Der Erde, as a full-length album. The experience Anxious tries to convey is being thrown into a world that is ready to crush you. Rødhåd is the spearhead of a new generation of techno producers and DJs. With his bass heavy grooves and dubby atmospheric soundscapes, he is a sonic guide, knowing exactly where he wants to take the crowd, leading through the inexhaustible sounds of techno music in all its beauty and gloom. He fully immerses himself into the music, yet never loses himself. Growing up in Berlin's rougher outskirts, as a teenager he was able to grasp the final flashings of Berlin's mythical nightlife of the 1990s at legendary places Casino and Ostgut. In the late 2000s, the Dystopian crew began their own series of parties and then the label, with two seminal releases by Rødhåd, 1984 (2012) and Blindness (2012). The album begins with a series of pulsing sounds as "Unleash" lures the listener into Rødhåd's sonic universe. The eerie melodies and the subtle staccato grooves of "Withheld Walk" pull its audience even further into an infusible mix of curiosity and fear. With "Escape", the bass drum finally sets in, but against all odds does not tune into a clubby energy. Remaining restrained and imaginative, the ghostly melodies of "Brief Respite" sound like the voices of creatures from another planet. "Awash" features a beautiful, yearning flute and out-of-tune strings wrestle with subdued breakbeats and a heavy bassline. "Glimmer Of Light" then sets an uncanny key, moving the dark beauty of '80s electro into the rich and subtle electronic palette of the present. In "Target Line", Rødhåd's collaboration with Vril, the simmering synth-track breaks away when they least expect it, setting the stage for the climax of the album. An "Amen" break tears itself loose in "Burst" and gets lost in an echo. With the quiet and majestic techno grooves of "Left Behind", the turmoil is over. The last track, "Cast A Shadow", expresses relief and quiet, giving them a chance to reflect on their mind-boggling journey. And just moments later, thrilling adventures turn into distant memories.

LITTLE AXE London Blues LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. "The future of blue note... !" Twenty-three years ago, this quotation foretold a great career for Little Axe, aka Skip McDonald. The musician had already had a taste of fame with the Sugarhill Gang backing band / Tommy Boy Cooperations and their hip-hop masterpieces, writing music history along the way. Then he rolled out Little Axe and gave the blues a new, groovy face. Releases on legendary labels like Okeh Records, Realworld, On-U Sound, and majors like Sony, BMG, Warner, etc. followed. On-U Sound label mastermind Adrian Sherwood has always given Skip a platform to present his entrancing blend of blues, gospel, Cajun, dub, and trip hop: pioneering and authentic at the same time. His sound takes the essence and sound samples from blues legends such as Howlin' Wolf, Leadbelly, and Son House and distils them to create musical visions that are both penetrating and highly hypnotic. Little Axe has released seven albums to date; London Blues is his eighth official album. Old mates, like Mark Stewart (Pop Group, Maffia), Doug Wimbish (bass player for Living Colour), Keith LeBlanc (drummer), Perry Melius (drummer for African Head Charge) have provided assistance -- and JebLoy Nichols collaborated on writing. London Blues sticks tenaciously to tradition -- to the blues -- but at the same time is infused with a plethora of musical lingos. The new album is packed with songs that glitter and shine with strokes of production genius and imaginative arrangements. On London Blues, Skip McDonald's creative team is even more sophisticated and innovative than on the predecessor albums. Amazing instrumentals ("Be Thankful"), a touch of gospel ("Deep River"), splashes of trip hop with blues harp ("Next Week Thursday"), and Delta blues meets dub ("When I Rise") -- the album meticulously follows a trail between Chicago and London, blending all the stepping stones to form a smooth, irresistible pathway.

KAYN, ROLAND A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound 16CD BOX
frozen reeds presents the première release of Roland Kayn's 14-hour masterpiece, A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound, as a 16-CD boxed set. Roland Kayn's truly epic A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound is both a major late opus and a summation of his vast contribution to the fields of electronic music and composition. Hearing the briefest passage of this piece, assembled in 2009, is enough to date the material of which it is composed back to the era of Kayn's noteworthy LP boxed sets, released on the Colosseum label in the late '70s and early '80s. Kayn's so-called "cybernetic music," to use the term he preferred, resolutely refuses to showcase the methods employed in its creation. The mass of logical interactions and correspondences underpinning the sounds are submerged so deeply below the surface as to defy analysis. One is left only with the results, which grant the listener a profound and unique experience. With A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound, Kayn provides both a vast sonic territory and the invitation to explore it. From glacial, drone-like vistas to violent staccato sequences, the piece's 22 movements chart the length and breadth of electronic music in as comprehensive a manner as has ever been attempted. The resurgence of the modular synthesizer as a popular musical tool in recent years belies the possibility that its boldest virtuosi may already lie in the instrument's past. In his work in Europe's electronic music studios alongside colleagues such as Leo Küpper and Jaap Vink, Kayn created sonic textures in such abundant variety as to make genre-categorization redundant. Photographs of the one-off, hand-built systems upon which they were realized have inspired the awe of electronic-music connoisseurs for years, but their output has been all too little heard and appreciated. In 2017, Roland Kayn represents perhaps one of the last titanic figures of 20th-century music to receive their due recognition, and to have their vital music restored to availability. Fresh from its 2016 release of Julius Eastman's Femenine (FR 006CD), which spurred on its composer's wider rediscovery and gave rise to performances, broadcasts, and festivals devoted to his work around the world, frozen reeds is proud to initiate the first stage of a similar process for Roland Kayn, which his incredible music so richly deserves. Edition of 750. Audio restoration by Jim O'Rourke. Artwork by Robert Beatty.

PSYCHO & PLASTIC Kosmopop LP
The first full-length album for Berlin's current finest psychedelic electronica act is a highly optimistic dance album with dark undertones, featuring a unique sonic palette of analog synths, alien guitars, organic sequencing, and otherworldly vocals. Psycho & Plastic are a Berlin based duo with a passion for nonconformist electronic music. They are on a mission to reintroduce a sense of wonder and adventure to both the dancefloor and the home listening experience. Their fiercely independent spirit is not only embodied in their music, but also in their decision to operate their own label, Give Us Your gold. Psycho & Plastic's first full-length Kosmopop was recorded in seclusion in the East German town of Chemnitz and meticulously embellished and perfected in Psycho & Plastic's Berlin studios over a period of almost two years. Heavily influenced by the first and second summer of love -- especially the mystical view on the wonders of inner and outer space from 1960s psychedelia, science fiction writing, and 1990s rave culture -- the album is a musical discovery of an imaginary galaxy, its planets and inhabitants. As such, it also serves as a metaphor for the fearless exploration of the unknown. The outcome is a highly optimistic dance album with dark undertones, featuring a unique sonic palette of analog synths, alien guitars, organic sequencing, and otherworldly vocals. Its mind-bending eclecticism ranges from the gravitational pull of bass heavy, krautrock-infused opener "Black Hole Acid Test" and the crisp funkiness of "Planet Seductron" through to the short ambient tracks "Boojum" and "Superflare" that frame both sides of the vinyl. The emotional turmoil of "Divine Loser", a melancholic ode to the Merry Pranksters disguised as a trippy stomper, and cosmic funkster "High Priests Of Stimulacrum" find their resolution in the high flying and atmospheric "Esoterra", a closer with a relentless kick drum fit for any dancefloor at sunrise.

SAZ'ISO At Least Wave Your Handkerchief At Me: The Joys and Sorrows of Southern Albanian Song CD
"Why not give yourself a break from the unending cavalcade of modern high-speed insanity, and rest up with this album of deep soul from Southern Albania." --Ry CooderBrazilian samba, Bosnian Sevdah, New Orleans jazz, Cuban son -- and Albanian Saze! The turn of the last century saw mass migrations to the world's cities with rural people bringing their music with them, adapting their traditions to new circumstances and modern instruments. Of all these great musical forms, the mesmerizing arabesques, joyful dances, and heart-breaking laments of Saze are among the least recorded, and they remain largely unknown outside Albania. At Least Wave Your Handkerchief At Me: The Joys and Sorrows of Southern Albanian Song is the debut of Saz'iso, a group of virtuoso musicians and legendary singers assembled by veteran producer Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, ¡Cubanismo!, Songhai) and his co-producers, Edit Pula and Andrea Goertler. The album was recorded live, with no overdubs, by Grammy-winning engineer Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, Ali Farka Touré, Orchestra Baobab) over three days of October 2016 at the Akademia e Filmit dhe Multimedias Marubi in Tirana, Albania. The music of Southern Albania is iso-polyphonic, which means that it combines at least two melodic vocal lines, a lead (marrës, the "taker") and a second (prerës, the "cutter"), with a multi-voiced drone or iso. When manufactured "tempered" instruments arrived in the region in the late 19th century, Saze ensembles were born; clarinets and violins took on the roles of the lead and second voices while lutes carried the iso. As Vasil S. Tole, Albania's leading expert on iso-polyphony -- and an inspiring advisor to this project -- puts it: "Saze remains to this day the musical language of the cities of Southern Albania, where East and West embraced when European instruments collided with the magic of a cappella iso-polyphony, and where life and death still coexist in a sound that is truly unique." SUPERPITCHER The Golden Ravedays 10 LP
Musically and emotionally, Superpitcher's third full-length studio album, The Golden Ravedays, is a one sound autobiography that exhibits the skill, feeling, and style that the artist has honed over a period of twenty years, musically, and forty-plus-years, emotionally. And full-length it is: The Golden Ravedays is an epic album of 24 tracks stretching over 12 respective chapter albums, released on Hippie Dance sequentially during a one-year period. The tenth edition of The Golden Ravedays unveils two tracks that are distinctly different in zeal but both transmitting spooky and thrilling male voices adding a sense of humorous horror. These two tracks are testament of Superpitcher's ability to skillfully merge depth and playfulness. Side A is "Rock N Roll Baby". Could it be that someone with a curious but naïve mind had the courage to ask the scariest man in the club, no the world, about the origin of music? The answer rides on a tribal beat, escalates to Armageddon-like heights and an eerie voice repeatedly assures us that it's all "Rock N Roll Baby". Side B features "Shining". Quite a surprise is waiting for you when you are heading down the dark hallway in your birthday suit just when your hand is anxiously trying to find the light-switch of your room. WEATHERALL, ANDREW Qualia 2LP
Qualia fits perfectly in to the Höga Nord Rekords catalog, which is evident from the opening track "Evidence The Enemy". This song is a monotonous yet uplifting piece of music, a case that holds for the album in full; Andrew Weatherall lets the melodies, built on a deep tradition of classical music and later developed by bands such as Kraftwerk, go in major scales, which lets fresh air in and creates a feeling of freedom. The music puts you on top of Mont Blanc and let's you overview the complete European music history. Qualia is soothing, harmonic, and transportive. Within his framework, Weatherall knocks those frames out of place from time to time. When a song goes too much in one direction, a new melody or a new instrument steps in to redirect and surprise the listener. Qualia is the perfect soundtrack to a road trip inside your own, ever-changing inner landscape.

His music is unruly and still thoughtful in its approach to incorporate a wide range of musical traditions: psychedelic music from seven continents shares sound and arrangement in the two tracks "Cardboard Pope" and "Insecto". The instrumentation on the A side is unclear in the most positive sense. The melodies soar higher and higher over acid-drenched guitars and drums. The thin and aggressive "Insecto" sounds as jerky and unpredictable as the title implies.

MONKEY SAFARI Odyssey 3LP
Triple LP version. German brothers Monkey Safari present Odyssey on their own Hommage imprint. Monkey Safari are brothers who can look back on a personal odyssey that's lasted more than 30 years so far. They have a mutual musical spirit and through good and bad times have only grown closer. As such, the artwork for the album reflects that and was made by stitching both artists' faces together, creating one persona from two individuals. As DJs, the pair have played everywhere from Timewarp to Awakenings Festival. They also own their own club, Charles Bronson, in their native Halle, Germany, and have released remixes and original material on top labels like Kompakt, Minus, and John Digweed's Bedrock. The title of this impressive album reflects the journey the duo had throughout the writing process. It was one that took a long time and went from initially being about writing an album of listening music, to evolve into being much more about music for the club and for many different dancefloors. "From our perspective, when it comes to music, a very important parameter is authenticity," they say. "In our case it means we're playing dance music in clubs and at festivals the whole year round. And even though it would have been interesting to produce a 'listening album' it wasn't the right time for that; which is why ultimately we chose to produce a club album. After all, the club has always been the space that has shaped us the most. It's a space that enables us to develop, test, and improve our music on a constant basis!" The album kicks off with squelchy synths and intoxicating vocal coos before getting deeper and more stripped back, with a moody atmosphere pervading the supple grooves. Things get more melodic and subtly uplifting as the album progresses and tracks range from spooky to emotive to scintillating, with original ethereal vocals making a number of appearances. Each track offers something different in terms of mood and style, yet the whole album plays out like a perfect journey with all the necessary highs and lows required. At the same time, the pair's exquisite synth work and knack for well programmed drums always shine through and prove they are slicker than average studio wizards.

PHASE FATALE Redeemer LP
Redeemer is the brutally seductive debut album by Phase Fatale, a key player in the recent charge of EBM and post punk-informed industrial techno infecting 'floors from his home city, New York City to his DJ residency at Berghain, Berlin. In Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions, Hayden Payne, aka Phase Fatale, finds a fitting home for his personalized brand of clinical, rictus rhythm programming and searing synth and guitar lines, adding a vital streak of black-and-blue electric energy to the legendary label in its 20th year of cultish operation. In seven parts, Redeemer follows the direct, jagged lines of his 12"s for Jealous God and Unterton (UTON 011EP, 2017) to a deeply personal realization of weaponized sonics, upholding a strong tradition of techno as a prophetic exercise or ritual to gird dancers and listeners for the onset of future war. It presents Phase Fatale as an ultimate emissary of electronic violence and domination in the process, steeling the limbic system and muscle memory through a fine-tuned disciplinarian approach to pharmacokinetics and biomechanics. Picking from the leather-bound cadaver of industrial dance music past, Phase Fatale reanimates his influences with pointillist precision and unapologetic force. Alloying muscular bass and metallic percussion with wire-combed 16th note synth lines and a barbed perimeter of guitar distortion, his sound can be heard as a metaphorical representation of holding your line against the attrition of a degenerated present. Each track dances concisely around the five minute mark, unfolding a series of densely packed and subtly rendered minimalist/maximalist structures. The shuddering tension of "Spoken Ashes" opens with banks of rotted chorales against a coalface of hacking stabs, establishing a pent vibe that vacillates precariously thru the adrenalized battery of "Operate Within", to the clenched funk of "Human Shield" and the bombed-out, Alberich-like "Interference", seeming to resolve slightly with the supple roll of "Order Of Severity", before "Beast" bottoms out into immolating synth distortion, and "Redeemer" brings up the rear with a coolly-tempered, stoic form of industrial ecstasy. SEGALL BAND, TY Slaughterhouse 2x12"
"A reissue of the 2012 debut release by the Ty Segall Band on In The Red, featuring a bonus song not on the original release! The Ty Segall Band is Ty Segall (obviously), Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moonheart and Emily Rose Epstein. While Segall has released many incredible solo releases, Slaughterhouse marks the first time he recorded with his touring band. For this mini-album (originally released as a double 10-inch, but now expanded to a double 12-inch) the band recorded with Chris Woodhouse at the Hangar, turned their amps all the way up, set their fuzz pedals on 'obliterate' and commenced to kick ass and take names. Seriously, this record will melt your face. All of Segall's usual psych-pop sensibilities are present but Slaughterhouse adds the full-throttle, go-for-the-throat bombast that the band delivers in the live setting. The fuzz riffs, bratty howl and Cro-Magnon bashing culminate with a feedback freakout that's clearly the only sensible way to end a workout of this magnitude in shit to announce the debut release by the Ty Segall Band."

SIDE EYES, THE So Sick CD
"So Sick, the debut album on In The Red Records by Southern California punk quartet the Side Eyes, raises interesting questions about nature versus nurture -- the eternal scientific debate about whether a human being's personality is predetermined by genetics or whether it's actually shaped by the environment one grows up in. Their lead singer, Astrid McDonald, is a fascinating test case. The 22-year-old Angeleno is the real-wild-child daughter of Go-Go's guitarist-songwriter Charlotte Caffey and Redd Kross singer-guitarist Jeff McDonald. How much has McDonald's notoriously fiery onstage presence been influenced by basic heredity and how much was her personality inspired by being raised by two legendary punk-pop icons? Similarly, how did growing up together as brothers in New Jersey affect the hard-driving musical attack of 22-year-old guitarist Kevin Devine and 20-year-old bassist Chris Devine? Much of rock history has been fueled by the unique familial dynamics and sibling rivalries of brothers in bands, from the Everly Brothers and the Kinks' Ray and Dave Davies to Redd Kross' Jeff and Steven McDonald. When the two Devines' aggressive approach is combined with 23-year-old San Diego native Nick Arnold's remorselessly throttling drumming, the Side Eyes end up as a powerfully controlled punk rock machine that blows past the sonic barriers of their past inspirations."

APARDE Glass CD
Milky glass stands for a semi-transparent, fragile barrier causing a diffuse glance onto life. It is about force, obsession, excess, consciousness, evolvement, liberation, reconciliation, inner conflicts, accomplishments, and the intercourse with these subjects that were decisive for the genesis of "Glass". The debut album of Aparde, Glass, is the attempt of a stylistic manifestation. Paul Camillo Rachel (Aparde) was able to give back the liberty to his musical output that he consciously subordinated, limited, and aligned. Glass sounds like a breakout; it's offensive, with deeper insight and attack, and passion. An unmistakable arrangement and atmosphere, accomplished through the usage of only self-recorded material. A kind of urban and conceptual field recording of sounds in all kinds of environments, selected and sorted by themes. Thus, for the title Glass, different kinds of glass were acoustically combined with other materials. Selected analog instruments and a reduced use of software resulted in a homogenized, warm, and classical, but specific character; Crystalline, organic percussion, vivid surfaces, sudden rhythms, and extent atmosphere, which distinctively scatter throughout and complement the stereoscopic sound image. The lone voice was out in a stronger focus. After a diffuse phase and adjacent relocation, finally resulting in the availability of their own room for musical and personal development, the songs here originated between the end of 2015 and mid-2016. Each song went through a lengthy process of development and many underwent a radical preadaptation around the start of 2017. The acoustic pattern of Glass became more and more distinct. The album was then finalized an early summer of 2017 in an old cottage in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, a very unique lake district in the north of Germany. The homonymous title track summarizes the atmosphere of the album in a comprehensible way. It is also the oldest title on the album. The topic was visually translated by literally looking through a milky glass: intertwined limbs of elusive bodies, diffuse and bizarrely aesthetic. "Mouth" features Anne. CD version includes two tracks not included on the LP version: "Wires" featuring Brigade and "Sand".

VERMONT II Remixes 12"
Vermont's sophomore album II (KOMP 133CD/KOM 361LP) saw Marcus Worgull and Danilo Plessow zooming in on ambience, texture, and sonic cohesiveness. Now, II Remixes puts the beat back into the mix, thanks to Dixon, I:Cube, and Wassermann. "Dschuna" gets remixed by Dixon who proves his strong command of the dancefloor with a hypnotic ride. The instrumental version drops the chants, but retains the enchantment. I:Cube brings a distinctly Parisian touch to the spectral "Skorbut", whose sci-fi-imbued widescreen aura gets reimagined as laser-gun-wielding space funk. Wolfgang Voigt, aka Wassermann, condenses the roaming synths of "Paradigma" into pulsating trance swells.

Paean To Wilson is arguably Vini Reilly and the Durutti Column's most important and consistent piece of work since the demise of the original and seminal Factory Records in the early 1990s. It was commissioned by the MIF (Manchester International Festival of Music), in July of 2009. Vini had already composed pieces for Tony to listen to while he was ill in the hospital and it was from here that the project developed. The bonus disc first appeared in 2005 via Wilson's project F4, the fourth version of Factory Records. SNAPPED ANKLES Come Play The Trees CD
"They come from the trees. When the city encroaches on the forest, nature finds a way to reclaim what is rightfully hers. Snapped Ankles arrive as messengers. On their debut album Come Play The Trees, they hold up a mirror to us. They're here to plant the seed. They're here to have a good time, but never at the expense of the natural habitat. This band emerges from the woods clutching an album that feels simultaneously modern and ancient. This is dance music once the computers finally fail us. Log synths, bass guitar and sticks on taut animal-skin form fearsome primal rhythms. Fuzz guitars rub up against dirty, rolling, arpeggiated synthesizers to ignite wild white-noise fires. Forest folklore passed down through generations has made its way onto these tracks. Subjects veer from dystopian futures to Swedish flat-pack furniture, from the films of Jean-Luc Godard and Andrei Tarkovsky to throwaway YouTube comments. High art and cultural detritus are all fair game -- a brave new world indeed."

NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS Nocturnal Emissions 2LP
Double LP version. Led by Nigel Ayers, Nocturnal Emissions was one of the first bands to use tape cutting, avant-garde art, and underground video works to create a stage experience that was cultivated by like-minded artists like Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. The band moved on to using samplers and electronic noise in their early '80s work, creating a twisted funk sound that would go on to influence everyone from Foetus to Negativland. They still utilized their former tricks, upping the ante with extremist performance art and more professional video displays. The group avoided signing to a major label, instead focusing on releasing their own music more effectively. They followed this path into the '90s when they started www.earthlydelights.co.uk, an incredibly detailed website that promotes their various ideologies -- they are strongly against the British monarchy and believe that citizens should have unlimited access to space travel -- and constant release schedule. The band has released countless tapes and CDs of their material, and continues to unleash their noise through their website. Nocturnal Emissions is a compilation of classic tracks from the early to mid '80s. Track selection by Alessandro Adriani. Graphic artwork by Simon Crab. Audio mastering by Rude 66.

SPIRIT FEST Spirit Fest LP
LP version. Gatefold sleeve; Includes printed inner sleeve; Includes download code. Bewitching avant-pop album from impromptu supergroup built around acclaimed Japanese duo, Tenniscoats. Aside from being the name of an influential Tokyo-based duo, Tenniscoats represents fun, artistic freedom, experimentation, and inclusivity. In the world of Tenniscoats, music can happen anywhere, and everyone is invited to join in. During the winter of 2016, the music happened in Munich. As a long-time fan, Markus Acher (Notwist) jumped at the chance not only to put Tenniscoats on the bill at the Alien Disko festival he was organizing, but also to invite Saya and Takashi to a small apartment studio, together with Mat Fowler (Jam Money), and Cico Beck (Aloa Input, Notwist). This is where Spirit Fest was recorded over the following 14 days. Tenniscoats are known for their collaborations -- some of their finest work was done in conjunction with Tape, The Pastels, Jad Fair, and many others. Mat Fowler recalls the Spirit Fest sessions taking place in an idyllic, festive atmosphere. "Every morning we'd all share breakfast, chat, and learn about German Christmas customs. We'd catch the bus in the morning and walk home in the evening. The journey ran parallel to the beautiful flowing Isar River that bubbles, ebbs and flows right through the middle of Munich." While Tenniscoats sit at the heart of proceedings, it isn't their album alone. Markus, Mat, and Cico also brought songs, providing a solid base on top of which the artistry could evolve. Mat explains, "a melody would begin, and slowly, each of us -- in our own time -- would find our way into the music. Producer Tadklimp would sensitively set-up around us in this narrow window of time, so as to document that first and intuitive moment of collective discovery." "Nearly everything was recorded live," agrees Markus, "playing and singing together in one room with piano, guitars, percussion and some keyboards." The collaborators came from Germany, Japan, the UK, Greece and beyond. From the tender beauty of Markus's "River River" and Saya's "Mikan" to the electro-Merseybeat of Tenniscoats' "Nambei", and the half-crazed pianica-reggae of "Shuti Man", the resulting album is a testament to the manner of which these musicians are able to channel their songwriting through their spontaneity. It's also a snapshot of a gentle and intuitive moment in time.

LANDERS, GEOFFREY 1 By 1 2LP
Music From Memory's final compilation of 2017 sees the release of the double album 1 By 1, which brings together the works of American experimental musician Geoffrey Landers. During a period spanning from 1979 to 1987, this Denver, Colorado based multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer, and engineer conceived several solo albums. Only two of these, The Ever Decimal Pulse (1982) and Habitual Features (1983) along with the single Breedlove (1984) were ever released on vinyl. Being heavily involved in the local industrial/punk/new wave scene and wanting to create a recording studio "available to record artists regardless of their financial circumstances" Landers set up The Packing House Studio in 1981. This analog 8-track recording facility was located in a former slaughterhouse in the stockyards of Denver and was a place of significant activity for the next three years with the studio releasing recordings from numerous artists, most notably Allen Ginsberg. It was here that Geoffrey Landers also started his own aptly named Cauhaus label. Indicative of the underground/DIY culture, "Cauhaus" was a subsidiary of a label called Local Anaesthetics which was started as an in-store label by independent Denver record store Wax Trax. Typically Cauhaus releases were only pressed up in small quantities and independently distributed, making Lander's music essentially elusive to a wide audience. After relocating in 1984 to an art district of Denver Landers opened the "Cauhaus Institute of Recording" studio where he continued to produce music for soundtracks, art, and multi-media projects for the next three years, after which Landers stepped out of the music industry entirely. He currently creates and exhibits mixed-media glass art. Throughout the twenty tracks of 1 By 1, of which six previously appeared on CD only, Music From Memory are submerged into a wide diversity of musical approaches from Geoffrey Landers. From the proto-house track "Logarithms" and the heart breaking new-wave boogie/funk of "Say You'll Say So", to the more contemplative pieces such as the oriental-inspired "Nisei" and the drenched in sunshine dub/reggae track "Mack", Landers shies away from musical expectations again and again; searching continually for innovative and new forms of expression.

BREWER, JON Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story DVD/BLU-RAY
"From Emperor Media Ltd. and acclaimed producer/director Jon Brewer, music icon David Bowie narrates this unprecedented celebration of the life and works of guitar virtuoso Mick Ronson - a rock hero virtually unknown despite his direct contribution and involvement in countless compositions, lyrics and recordings that changed the face of music forever. His humble beginnings in Hull, England underpinned the values and modest, unpretentious personality of Mick Ronson, who worked with the city's council while he pursued his craft with consummate dedication. Soon word of his talent reached David Bowie, who grabbed at the chance to work with Ronson, in what would become a career-long association, alongside collaborations with other greats such as Bob Dylan, Ian Hunter, Lulu and Lou Reed. The Man Who Sold The World, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, 'The Jean Genie' - all were constructed with Ronson on guitar. Sadly in 1993, while working on a solo album, Ronson passed away before receiving the recognition he so richly deserved or before taking that final bow. Now, with unprecedented access to archival backstage footage - never before released - and iconic imagery from superstar photographer Mick Rock, this fascinating and at times controversial special reveals the ultimate authentic chronicle of the career of a cornerstone of rock." DUCKTAILS Jersey Devil CD
"Matt Mondanile's sixth full-length album as Ducktails, Jersey Devil, is a mature, multi-faceted work that showcases the New Jersey musician's return to his DIY roots. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources, including the cosmic jazz fusion of Haruomi Hosono, the album is a huge leap forward in songwriting and production. It is also a testament to Mondanile's artistic perseverance and the project's true magnum opus. Jersey Devil was recorded over the span of two years despite frequently unfavorable circumstances. Mondanile started working on the record in Los Angeles prior to his departure from Real Estate, in a cramped, stuffy warehouse space he converted into a modest studio. A few good friends came to his aid: John Anderson (Girls, Sky Ferreira) and Malcolm Oliver Perkins both played guitar and helped to compose and produce the songs; Perkins and Samira Winter also sang beautiful harmonies while Josh da Costa contributed brilliant drum fills. Mondanile also flew over Chi Yoon Hae of the South Korean indie band Parasol to play bass. However, the music really became what Mondanile had envisioned after moving back to his hometown of Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he finished writing and recording the songs in his mom's basement. The quiet, familiar space surrounded by wood-paneled walls provided endless inspiration. Once finished tracking, Mondanile would take the commuter train to Hoboken, grab a cup of coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, and mix the album with engineer Ernie Indradat at Sonic Youth's studio. 'Everything felt right, the mini-mall across the street, the stock brokers walking their dogs, and the sweet summer smell in the air,' says Mondanile about the final days of work."

A dystopian vision of alienated humanity, broken communications and technoid mal-forms, this album is her most fully developed full length and a leap forward from 2012's Songs For Cadets. Moving away from the primitive Cold Wave of previous work, it creates a bleak dystopia without relying on Ballardian cliché, though still invoking concrete prisons and urban disassociation -- a throbbing, murky underworld that revels in imperfections; a submersive, digital swamp bleeding through the club."

Members included Agata Harz (vocals), Katarzyna Smoluk (vocals, piano), Robert Nizi?ski (wind instruments, keyboards), Lechos?aw Polak (accordion, keyboards, synthesizers), and Remigiusz Mazur-Hanaj (lyrics, tapes). The spirit of Ksi??yc captures early and late music with a medieval sound, rooted in Slavic tradition combined with elements of minimalism and vocal experiments of the 20th century. The alchemy of these constituent parts results in a breathtaking original music, both delicate and sinister. The surreal, fairy-tale-inspired lyrics add to the inherent beauty, sadness, and madness within. Originally released on cassette and 10" vinyl by OBUH Records in 1996, the group's defining statement has now been remastered by Piotr Nykiel at Nykiel Audio and cut on 12", allowing for vastly improved sound quality. CHRISTIANSEN, HENNING Op.192 Umwalzung 2CD
Op.192 Umwälzung - Fluxorum Organum 1990 Eurasienstab Ist Immernoch Angelpunkt is a previously unissued work by Henning Christiansen from 1990. Around the formation of the European Union, Henning approached his original Eurasienstab organ recordings from 1968 as a platform to remold a vast amount of audio he made over the subsequent years This special two-CD release comprises two different mixes of Umwälzung that were made for Werner Durand in 1990 to be used as backing tapes for a performance at Ballhaus Naunynstrasse in February 1990. Umwälzung is unique in Henning's output as it resides in a more contemporary landscape positioning itself more as a "mix" than a stand-alone recording -- one which retains the skewered sensibility that only Henning could conjure. The two-hour long versions of Umwälzung are haunted with tape hiss, weird interference, and a deeply melancholic aura that moves from the original Eurasienstab organ recordings through to the somewhat hysterical 180 Hammer Blows Against War Monkeys , resulting in an epic and hypnotic excursion. Presented here in full cooperation with the Henning Christiansen estate. Comes in a mini-album gatefold sleeve; Edition of 500.

The original edition was presented in a limited run of four cassettes, boxed and with an accompanying book in 2016. This timely reissue comes as a remastered double LP set, inviting a new set of listeners to the work. Four sides of uniquely textured summer ambience, industrial rhythms, synthesizer pieces, and piano works, complete Brazil. The luxuriant melodic drones of Loke Rahbek's Hvide Sejl project converge with the percussive work of Varg and the largely acoustic work of Frederik Valentin of Kyo, producing a fragile beauty. There is a sense of narrative to Brazil. The work cryptically leads its listeners through a small collection of moving panoramas. Keeping its distance, the storyline remains perpetually obscured. Like a crime unsolved, or a name-less love letter, as greater detail comes into focus the intrigue blooms. A multi-faceted affair for multifaceted affairs. ENOCKSSON, ERIK Farval Falkenberg LP
Posh Isolation rerelease Erik Enocksson's soundtrack Farväl Falkenberg, originally released on Kning Disk in 2007, giving it its first widespread LP release. Farväl Falkenberg is a soundtrack to the movie of the same name. 2017 marks its ten year existence. This rerelease is a remastered version with new artwork. When Farväl Falkenberg was originally released, the record label responsible, Kning Disk, wrote: "... having not only created a lush record full of thick, back country piano and raw, acoustic guitar waltzes, Enocksson has more importantly produced an album that effortlessly translates the feeling of isolation (both geographically and emotionally) in an intensely personal way you don't often come across." With such a statement it seems only natural that now ten years later it should find a new home via Posh Isolation. Posh Isolation co-founder Loke Rahbek on the release: "It is hard to overstate the importance Erik Enocksson's work in relation to the discography of Posh Isolation. Years before we met, his release Apan (2011) completely changed how I thought of music. Something similar happened when I later heard Farväl Falkenberg for the first time. I was in a car going from Prague to Berlin sitting on the backseat, the person next to me had tears down her cheeks in the middle of the first song, by the end of the record the whole car was silent and remained so for the rest of the drive. It is rare to witness music with such effect and it is not often that a record could have that effect still, ten years after its initial release. I think Farväl Falkenberg can."

KEPLA & DEFORREST BROWN JR. Absent Personae LP
Collaboration between Liverpool-based sound artist, Jon Davies, aka Kepla, and New York-based media theorist and music writer, DeForrest Brown Jr. Following in the style of verbatim theater, Brown -- through private recordings in various urban public environments -- recalls a palpable, though unseen trauma while wading amidst Davies's digital processing of found social media audio. The result is a psycho-political meditation on Black America as a (de)territorialized subject. Absent Personae was commissioned by Electronic Voice Phenomena as an interstitial specter in transition, resonating with the sinister politics of pseudo-science histories, while speculating on identity as evasion and persona without orientation. The piece is a post-industrial De?rive considering the psychological liminal zones between old and new industry and urbanity, the changing landscapes of labor: a fractured genealogical memory trace obscured by intercepted signals and the liquidating flux of late capitalism. "Lost My Head" features Embaci.

Homeboy's "Hadi" is the Croatians influence by the Arab World in a culturally appropriate track, leading to Mehmet Aslan's very own sultan of beats, making a sandstorm with this timeless piece.

MARIAM THE BELIEVER Love Everything LP
LP version. In addition to her solo work as Mariam The Believer, Mariam Wallentin is one half of vocal-and-drum-duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums with husband Andreas Werliin. She is also a founding member and composer in Fire! Orchestra. The follow up to 2013's debut album - the critically acclaimed 'Blood Donation' released on Moshi Moshi ? 'Love Everything' is written, produced and self-released on Mariam Wallentin's own label Repeat Until Death.. Equipped with her courageously uncompromising approach to music-making Wallentin started Mariam the Believer to focus her expression into a pop project. In total 15 musicians collaborated on the album, resulting in songs that twist and turn evolving organically with each contribution. From vocalist virtuoso Sofia Jernberg to drone experimentalist Oren Ambarchi and free form jazz star Mats Gustavsson, it's an eclectic roll call, yet despite that Love Everything is at its very core, a collection of pure pop melodies. On 'Love Everything', she lets melodies lead the way ? the piano flowing with harmonies that emphasise Wallentin's powerful and at times raw, honest voice. The songs are ripe, ready to be eaten, before metamorphosing into new structures and an unexpected richness. Power ballads are interrupted by a change of rhythms. En-chanting vocals turn into pulsating R'n'B, new opportunities are lurking behind every corner. In Wallentin's lyricism, the heart is a muscle pumping blood. Approaching spiritual subjects rooted in the human body and nature, she pulls esoteric themes into a con-text and reaches dizzying heights.

R.I.P. Street Reaper CD
"When R.I.P. came crawling out of the sewers of Portland, Oregon, last year, their grimy, sleazy street doom was already a fully formed monstrosity, quickly infecting the minds of everyone it encountered. Now, borne from the band's declining mental health and an increased focus on songwriting, Street Reaper is even more unhinged and menacing than their debut In The Wind (2016). Borrowing equally from '80s Rick Rubin productions and Murder Dog magazine aesthetics, this latest album is a streamlined yet brutally raw manifesto of heavy metal ferocity hearkening to the era when both metal and hip hop were reviled as the work of street thugs intent on destroying America's youth. Throughout, Angel Martinez's guitar and John Mullett's bass are inextricably interlocked like a massive sonic steamroller, while drummer Willie D keeps the beat solid and simple for the most powerful impact. Plus, the band's extensive touring and excessive virgin sacrifices have provided singer Fuzz evermore agile vocal chords to drive it all home with extreme precision. Operating on the belief that doom is not tied to a tuning or a time signature, but rather a raw and terrified feeling, R.I.P. eschews well-trodden fantasy and mysticism tropes of the genre and focuses on conveying the horror and chaos inherent in the everyday reality of the human mind."

GOAT Fuzzed In Europe LP
When the masked Swedish collective Goat toured Europe in the autumn of 2016 to promote their then recently released third album Requiem, the band came up with the idea to record every show. On returning back to their home town of Korpilombolo, Goat painstakingly went through all the recordings and picked out six tracks to be released on a limited live album presented here, Fuzzed In Europe. Goat picked these six tracks in particular because they are different versions to what is found on their releases. Goat's live reputation is second to none -- since their first public shows in 2012, they have stunned audiences across the globe. The band's brand of danceable, tribal psychedelia is guaranteed to create mass hysteria from the wanting crowds -- Goat know how to create music that is made for the "head" as well as the "body". There are rumors of Goat disappearing into the hills, that they have hung up their masks now for good and have slipped away as quietly as they arrived on to the scene. Whether this is true or not, it can't be said, but even if they have or have not disbanded from public view, this is a great document of their immersive power to cherish. It celebrates a band completely at the top of their game. The eye popping beautiful artwork for Fuzzed In Europe was created by the great poster artist Adam Pobiak who has worked with everyone from Soundgarden to Justice and Swans to the Flaming Lips. Green/black splatter; Edition of 2000.

MANNING, ROSS Reflex In Waves LP
In August of 2017, Ross Manning opened his first major survey exhibition, Dissonant Rhythms, at Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art. As part of the exhibition a monograph and LP edition, titled Reflex In Waves, were prepared to celebrate this milestone. Reflex In Waves brings together a series of sonic approaches Manning has been developing for over a decade. Specifically, Manning's work is concerned with waves and the impacts of their resulting vibration. Quietly producing audio works out of his studio in Yeronga, on the south side of Brisbane city, Manning's works are based on a series of deeply personal instrument designs, tape manipulation, and other exploratory approaches. His instruments, which are often percussive, use harmonically related materials that are activated by motor-driven strings. The resulting sound is a chaotic but pulse-like cluster of harmony. Developing sets of uniquely pitched materials, Manning's instruments each maintain a distinct quality. No two instruments sound alike and although the way in which they are "performed" may be similar, the resulting sound is anything but familiar. "I have always been interested in how sound lives in spaces," Ross summarizes. "As I worked on this exhibition, I spent a great deal of time in my studio building instruments and exploring them. I recorded many, many hours of materials in this space and this collection of recordings is very much a summary of my sound practice to this moment." Dissonant Rhythms will tour Australian galleries for the next four years. The Ross Manning: Dissonant Rhythms exhibition, publication, tour, and Reflex In Waves are supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, and the IMA's Commissioners Circle.Ross Manning's practice spans experimental music, new technologies, and immersive installations that often involve the play of light. Recent solo and group exhibitions include: Why Not Ask Again?, 11th Shanghai Biennale, China; Set in Motion, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand; Ross Manning, Carriageworks, Sydney, Australia; Device for Messaging Nothing, Milani Gallery, Brisbane, Australia; Colour Shift, Loop, Seoul, Korea (all 2016); Light Play, University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane, Australia; GOMA Q, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia; Interplay, The National Museum of Modern And Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea; Imaginary Accord, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia; The Kaleidoscopic Turn, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia (all 2015); and You Imagine What you Desire, 19th Biennale of Sydney, Australia 2014.

KINK Playground 3LP
Triple LP version. Say what you wanna say, but you have to give Strahil Velchev this: the man's a powerhouse. Recording and playing live under the KiNK alias, he went on to become one of finest purveyors of funk in techno and house. What it is, by definition, ain't exactly clear. And that is the beauty of it. KiNK's music is unifying in the best possible way. Channeling the spirit and feeling of a time where it didn't really matter who the faces behind the music were, KiNK plays with the elements of genres and sub-genres as if the future of it all is still wide-open. At the same time it could be accused of retro-fetishism, as much as the Pope himself is infallible. The pure need to recreate moments, feelings, and experience -- rather than carbon copies of existing designs -- was what started KiNK's production work. Hailing from Bulgaria, it was nearly impossible to get your hands on all the records and music that fed into a system of raves, clubs, and record shops that seemed far away from Sofia, and financially it might as well have meant another galaxy. Wanting to DJ without having access to the tracks that spun the carousel meant that you had to create them yourselves. So, here we go with a private bootlegger gone public mastermind and one of the loudest voices in house, techno, and beyond. From KiNK's early productions with Neville Watson to his smash-hit for Ovum, a cerebral album for Macro Recordings (MACROM 038CD/LP, 2014), tons of remixes and tracks and his mind-bending live act, Playground seems to take all that into a blender. Simultaneously a sound-summary, the harvest of a field of ideas, and the exhibition of an artist in his prime, it also works as a sort of KiNK dictionary: avant-garde soundscapes stand next to boisterous bangers, classic club tracks and peak time emotions find their idiosyncratic and contemplative counterparts -- all of it coming down like a torrent in a drought.

RITA, MARIA Brasileira LP
Repressed. Selva Discos present an official reissue of Maria Rita Stumpf's Brasileira, originally released in 1988. Brasileira has been on top of collectors and music lovers' wish lists since "Cântico Brasileiro Nº3 (Kamaiurá)" broke out and cast a spell worldwide. Lucky collectors can listen to the whole album -- with gems such as "Lamento Africano/Rictus" and "A Cidade" -- but it was clear that Brasileira is an oeuvre that more people should have access to. Selva Discos is a new label run by Augusto Olivani and Millos Kaiser (the DJ/production duo known as Selvagem) in partnership with JD Twitch's Optimo Music. Here's an extract from Augusto Olivani and Millos Kaiser's sleeve notes about the Brasileira and the label's launch: "We were aware of the originality and rarity of this album since we put our hands on a copy of the Brasileira LP a few years ago, but it took time to learn that Maria Rita from 'Kamaiurá', the track that carried us away as soon as we first heard it, was the same Maria Rita with whom one of us knew since childhood. To reissue Brasileira became a life mission. Also, it turned to be the seed that allowed Selva Discos to bloom." And another extract, taken from Maria Rita's recollection on the serendipity that triggered this reissue: "Many years passed until I got a call from a close friend saying that his son, whom I had known since childhood, was my fan. I found it funny... I was slowly returning to music after years of directing Antares, a company I created and that brought thousands of artists to Brazil. He was a DJ who played my songs at the Selvagem parties and as he said, did not know that I was me, the same Maria Rita who worked with his father. This was a plot twist, a movie thing." Maria Rita Stumpf is now the owner of Brazilian production company Antares Produções, responsible for bringing international artists, such as Philip Glass and Mikhail Baryshnikov, to Brazil for the past 30 years. After distancing herself from the music business since the original release of Brasileira, she's now back in the game. This reissue was overviewed by Maria Rita Stumpf; Remastered from DAT tape of the original release; Artwork updated by Brazilian design studio Colletivo; Features liner notes by Maria Rita.

Concerning the "Lamento Africano/Rictus" remix, Joakim was just very interested about the singer, the instruments used, the lyrics, and jumped aboard this project quickly.

Originally released on CD in 1995, Ancient Lights And The Blackcore is presented here for the first time on vinyl. Contains only unreleased and exclusive material. It begins with Scorn at his best on "Naked Sun", with M.J. Harris (Lull, Painkiller) and N.J. Bullen. It's followed by three tracks by Seefeel ("As If", "As Track", and "As Well"), recorded during the sessions of Succour (1995). "Why Are You There?", the large track by Timothy Leary (voices) and DJ Cheb I Sabbah (production), is a fascinating hallucinatory piece. At the end of the LP are extraordinary recordings of an intoxicated and painful ceremony of the Yanomami, a community of Amazonian shamans, recorded by David Toop in the rainforest of Southern Venezuela in November of 1978. BATTIATO, FRANCO Fetus LP
"Franco Battiato is often heralded as Italy's answer to Brian Eno. A quizzical composer/lyricist, Battiato turned pop music upside down in the early '70s with three classic LPs -- Fetus, Pollution and Sulle Corde Di Aries -- that formed a confluence of avant-folk sensibilities and analog electronics. Originally released in 1971 on Bla Bla, Fetus predated the prodigious Cramps and Multhipla catalogues to become one of the first electronic records produced in Italy. With his trusted VCS3 synthesizer, Battiato created primordial soundscapes that shift between dreamy and delirious. His unsentimental, yet evocative voice -- combined with a sublimely detached approach to lyrics -- spawned a new breed of divergent songwriting. Fetus, a concept album exploring themes of genetic engineering, is enigmatically sub-titled 'Ritorno al Mondo Nuovo' (Return to the New World) and dedicated to Aldous Huxley. While the sleeve design may have raised a few eyebrows upon its initial release, the back cover photograph of Battiato (standing defiant in dark glasses) makes the real iconoclastic statement. Battiato's infectious melodies and innovative sound-collage techniques remain uniquely spry given that each track averages less than four minutes in length. Pink Floyd's Meddle, Os Mutantes' eponymous recordings and Jim O'Rourke's experimental-pop idiosyncrasies all find parallels to the curious beauty of Fetus. Superior Viaduct is honored to present the first-time domestic release of Fetus on vinyl. Reproducing the original gatefold jacket, this reissue is part of an archival series that chronicles Franco Battiato's masterful body of work from 1971 to 1978."

BATTIATO, FRANCO Pollution LP
"Franco Battiato is often heralded as Italy's answer to Brian Eno. A quizzical composer/lyricist, Battiato turned pop music upside down in the early '70s with three classic LPs -- Fetus, Pollution and Sulle Corde Di Aries -- that formed a confluence of avant-folk sensibilities and analog electronics. Pollution from 1972 is the captivating follow-up to Fetus. Like its predecessor, the album features Baroque textures, motorik rhythms, weird tape effects and Battiato's perfectly oblique vocals. Upon hearing Pollution, Frank Zappa joyfully proclaimed it 'genius.' While Battiato's core group of collaborators remains largely the same as on his debut, this phenomenal band (joined by an eighteen-year-old Roberto Cacciapaglia on keys) appears even more in the foreground on Pollution. Out of the Ash Ra Tempel-like riffs and urgent guitar strumming emerge hypnotic grooves and cinematic flourishes, suggesting a futuristic meeting point between Stereolab and Ennio Morricone. Dedicated to the Centro Internazionale Studi Magnetici, Pollution touches on themes of environmental catastrophe. Futurist allusions seep in through eccentric lyrics (at times sung backwards) about hydraulics, magnetic fields, etc., yet listeners don't need to speak the artist's language to grasp his melancholy vision. With Pollution, Battiato solidifies not only his cult figure status, but also many of his forward-thinking ideas on rock 'n' roll. Superior Viaduct is honored to present the first-time domestic release of Pollution on vinyl. Reproducing the original gatefold jacket, this reissue is part of an archival series that chronicles Franco Battiato's masterful body of work from 1971 to 1978."

BATTIATO, FRANCO Sulle Corde Di Aries LP
"Franco Battiato is often heralded as Italy's answer to Brian Eno. A quizzical composer/lyricist, Battiato turned pop music upside down in the early '70s with three classic LPs -- Fetus, Pollution and Sulle Corde Di Aries -- that formed a confluence of avant-folk sensibilities and analog electronics. 1973's Sulle Corde Di Aries is the third chapter in Battiato's foray into esoteric pop. While the artist would venture further out into avant-garde terrain on subsequent releases, his early records enjoy a lyrical and playful spirit -- eschewing traditional, song-based composition in favor of kosmische voyages. On Sulle Corde Di Aries, Battiato guides the labyrinthine structural changes and majestic tones to evolve gradually over four electroacoustic suites. 'Sequenze e Frequenze,' the album's side-long centerpiece, blooms in a polyphony of organic pulses reminiscent of the vibrant keyboard minimalism of Terry Riley's A Rainbow In Curved Air and the rhythmic interconnectedness of Can's Ege Bamyasi. While Fetus and Pollution are often considered his masterpieces, Sulle Corde Di Aries remains a hidden gem in Battiato's catalogue. With more of a cohesive album-feel than the previous records, Sulle Corde Di Aries slows the pace to take in the sweeping scope of otherworldly sounds and soulful harmonies. Superior Viaduct is honored to present the first-time domestic release of Sulle Corde Di Aries on vinyl. Reproducing the original gatefold jacket, this reissue is part of an archival series that chronicles Franco Battiato's masterful body of work from 1971 to 1978."

HUNTRESS AND HOLDER OF HANDS, THE Avalon CD
"In 2015, MorganEve Swain was telling a reporter about her new identity she had recently accepted as her own: a widow. Two years later, she has channeled her lingering disbelief and recurring bouts of grief and redemption into The Huntress And Holder Of Hands, a potent reminder that even when life turns out differently than we expect, the human spirit is indomitable, our capacity to love and persevere immeasurable. For the past decade, Swain has been known for her work with Brown Bird, a chameleonic duo she fronted with her late husband, Dave Lamb. They charged out of Providence in the early 2000s, a heady hybrid of 'Dark Americana,' blues, Eastern-European folk, and the far-flung influences of their upbringings. Just as the band was taking flight, with a handful of acclaimed albums, nonstop touring, and a star-making performance at the Newport Folk Festival, Lamb was diagnosed with leukemia. Though the year-long ordeal that followed was full of incredible support and unwavering hope, he succumbed in April 2014, gone far too soon at 36, leaving Swain to carry a torch for the duo's brief but enduring legacy. This band took its name and the title Avalon from the last words that haunted the end of Brown Bird's final album, 2015's devastating Axis Mundi. In an intimate home recording he'd given her as a Christmas present, Lamb inadvertently laid out Swain's artistic arc: 'You're a huntress and a healer and a holder of hands/ And your heart is the Avalon that I seek for my end.' It's fitting, then, that this album is a powerful bookend to that farewell statement. It is a tough but important listen, a harrowing account of not just Swain's anguish but also her resolve and profound love for Lamb and the community that formed around them and lifted her when she needed it the most."

HASSELL, JON Dream Theory in Malaya: Fourth World Volume Two CD
First reissue of Jon Hassell's "Fourth World" masterpiece, originally released in 1981. Featuring contributions from Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel), and Michael Brook (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan). Beautifully remastered, with a bonus track ("Ordinary Mind") and liner notes written by Hassell himself. "Fourth World is a viewpoint out of which evolves guidelines for finding balances between accumulated knowledge and the conditions created by new technologies" --Jon Hassell. From his time studying with Stockhausen in Cologne and a passage through the New York minimalist sphere with Terry Riley, La Monte Young, and Philip Glass to his mentorship with the Indian vocal master Pandit Pran Nath and collaborative excursions with Eno, the Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, Björk, and Ry Cooder, Jon Hassell has pursued a continuous questioning of the dichotomies between North and South, sacred and sensual, primitive and futurist. These cross-pollinating influences and pan-cultural musical educations led Hassell to the gradual development of musical concepts and gestures that he grouped under the "Fourth World" umbrella theory. "I wanted the mental and geographical landscapes to be more indeterminate -- not Indonesia, not Africa, not this or that. . . . What would music be like if 'classic' had not been defined as what happened in Central Europe two hundred years ago. What if the world knew Javanese music and Pygmy music and Aborigine music? What would 'classical music' sound like then?" In the late 1970s in New York, Hassell began to produce a series of astonishing albums on which his trumpet explored both non-Western modalities and dramatic sound processing (deftly rendered by nascent digital effects like the AMS Harmonizer). Brian Eno, who was living New York at the time, was thrilled by Hassell's 1978 debut album, Vernal Equinox, and sought out its creator. Together they produced the classic 1980 album Fourth World Vol. 1: Possible Musics (GB 019CD/LP), before Eno charged headlong into "Fourth World"-ish collaborations with a new partner, David Byrne, on Remain in Light (1980) and My Life in The Bush of Ghosts (1981). Hassell began to feel that they were at least borrowing concepts and sounds to which he had introduced them, and at worst, that a full-scale appropriation was taking place. As Hassell undertook the process of recording and finalizing Dream Theory in Malaya: Fourth World Volume Two -- the follow-up to Possible Musics -- Brian Eno was again present, as both mixer and musician, but this time the back cover credits leave no room for interpretation or confusion: "All compositions by Jon Hassell. I had spent much of 2015 in my studio trying to write songs for pop stars, getting nowhere and feeling useless, when David Bowie died. I abandoned my writing and immersed myself in his records, films and biographies. I did nothing else for weeks. . . . I started completely from scratch, writing and recording, often at the same time, in my home studio in Cardiff. . . . Lyrics were written first, unusual for me, but because they were the driving force of the songs, they had to be right. I concentrated on what I wanted to say rather than trying to find rhymes and scansion. . . . There was no sonic template in mind, though I was listening to a lot of soul music -- Philly, Northern, Motown -- along with the Bowie stuff. I wanted to change the way I sang, I didn't really want to play anything, most of the music is stuff I sampled and fucked with and then played it back in on a keyboard. . . . I worked on ten songs but in the end, only finished eight before the spell was broken. . . . I became paranoid and anxious. I was talking to myself and waving my arms around until I finally broke down and told my family and called the doctor. . . . I tried going back to it but I could never find the same space. I then spent six months looking for someone to mix it. In the winter of 2017 I recorded a new single, 'Gold Lift,' inspired by the photograph of Donald Trump and Nigel Farage taken the day after the U.S. presidential election. I asked Greg Haver, a Cardiff producer and friend now living in New Zealand, to help me with the mix for that. He tidied it up, replaced my electronic drums with his own playing, and then sent it back over for Clint Murphy -- a New Zealander now living in the U.K. -- to do a proper mix. This worked out so well that I decided to follow the same process for New Shapes Of Life."

TRAXMAN Tekvision LP
A leading figure and respected elder in the Teklife family, Traxman has waited patiently while releases from young upstarts like Taso and DJ Earl have been enjoyed by footwork lovers all over the world. Now the time has come for Traxman to take center stage, presenting a collection of new material that demonstrates his mastery of the footwork sound. Tekvision arrives hot on the heels of Teklife 005: Greenlight by DJ Manny (TEKLIFE 005LP), bringing an interesting contrast of production methods and styles. A prodigious crate digger, Traxman has provided the sample sources for many of footwork's classic tracks over the years. So while DJ Manny recorded the majority of the vocals on Greenlight himself, Traxman uses his expert sample flipping techniques to add the human element to his productions. Traxman is a mainstay of the Chicago underground, with a discography stretching back to the golden era of Dance Mania Records in the 1990s. Ghetto house was an important precursor to footwork, and Traxman was a key figure during this transition. Echoes of the ghetto house sound resonate through Tekvision, with tracks like "Drop It Down" and "Twist The Party Out" paying homage to the origins of juke and footwork music. "Be Gagen", featuring DJ Earl, is a beautiful opening track, with a soulful, melancholic synth unfolding patiently over a half-speed beat. When the bass kicks in shortly after one-minute, it has a profoundly uplifting effect and the late arriving vocal rounds off the composition perfectly. Many of the tracks demonstrate brilliant and playful manipulation of vocal snippets, with "Let Me Get Up" and "Control Ya Bitchezzz" among the finest examples of this art. Finally, "Tone Deaf" and "Whop Line" show yet another side to Traxman's sound with an intoxicating and angular mix of bass and bleeps. RIYL: DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, DJ Deeon, Jammin Gerald.

ROACH, STEVE Structures From Silence LP
"Steve Roach is one of the defining American artists of new age music, perpetually on a quest for silence and the suspension of time in his music. Structures From Silence is his third album originally released in 1984, and is his first purely textural album, with a smooth, dark, gentle atmospheres unlike any of his other albums. 'Full of purring drones and high notes that shimmer and fade. Like a desert mirage, these structures hover forever at the horizon, an oasis from the din surrounding it' --From Pitchfork's 'Best Ambient Albums Of All Time'. 'Steve Roach's Structures From Silence remains one of the most important ambient albums ever crafted. It isn't as high profile as similarly poised records from Brian Eno, but its enduring influence has been unmistakably visible in the three decades since its release.' --FACT Magazine. Remastered from the original tapes, this is the first vinyl reissue of the album since its initial release in 1984."

SUTEKH HEXEN/HISSING Sutekh Hexen/Hissing LP
"Hissing and Sutekh Hexen are two of the murkiest, most cacophonous groups operating in the margins of the contemporary metal underground. Now, these hellish projects come together to release a split album on The Flenser. Since 2008, Sutekh Hexen has turned the paradigm of black metal completely on its ear. The group creates what can be described as a dense tapestry of black noise, or a wall of intricate tones deconstructing itself brick by brick. Their rich, unparalleled compositions cultivate further interest with each listen. Founded in 2014 out of a mutual interest in deranged and punishing sounds, Seattle's Hissing is often described as 'blackened sludge.' This does little justice describing the harsh, dissonant soundscapes created by this trio. To date they have released two EPs through Disorder Recordings and Southern Lord, and have a full-length forthcoming."

BRUCE I'm Alright Mate 12"
2017 repress. I'm Alright Mate sees the Bristol-based producer shift full throttle into far more menacing territory. Fueled by the distaste for ignorance, blind condescension and amphetamine fueled brawls, Bruce delivers two cuts of floor destroying workouts. "I'm Alright Mate" has been dazing dancefloors for over a year, recently being a highlight of Joy O's Dekmantel mix. Tenacious kick drums set the tone, before screaming feedback obliterate any sense of predictability. It is as mischievous as it is hostile. "Post Rave Wrestle" utilizes a similar sound palette, but with a low-slung, surly rhythm punctuated by splinters of feedback.

BAND OF HOLY JOY Funambulist We Love You LP
LP version. Formed from the ashes of an unrecorded '77 punk band Speed, Band Of Holy Joy's initial musical forays were largely in the domain of industrial bricolage and occasional bursts of madness. When they re-emerged at the end of the first decade of the new century, it was on their terms. A fiercely devoted fan base led to regular, albeit low-key releases. In some aspects, they're an art collective. Inspired by the possibilities which burst forth after punk, the band's expression takes many forms. Visual artist Inga Tillere plays a large role in shaping the band's aesthetic and live events, and in musical foil James Stephen Finn, Johny's poetic vision transcends expectations without resorting to desperate reaches into esoterica. It rarely names any names, and it's far from strident, but it's undeniably a record forged by 2017. (And you don't need to look it up -- a funambulist is a tight-rope walker -- even we're not sure if that's a metaphor or simply an obtusely snappy title). Funambulist comes hot on the heels of The Clouds That Break The Sky, a three-CD boxed set of Band Of Holy Joy's pre-Rough Trade records of the early to mid-80s.

AUTUMNS Dyslexia Tracks LP
Autumns is the solo project of Christian Donaghey from Derry, Northern Ireland. Following several releases on Downwards and Clan Destine and hot on the heels of his debut LP, Suffocating Brothers (CDR 023LP, 2017), the Dyslexia Tracks EP sees Autumns deliver five tracks and 38 minutes of brutal beauty. Aligning itself closely to his recent live performances -- where snares (and belts) crack like whips and synthesizers "wriggle like a fucking eel" -- Dyslexia Tracks completes Autumns' journey from his post-punk beginnings to producing some of the tautest and toughest electronic music heard in some time. Alongside progressive appearances on cult labels, Donaghey's restless work ethic has seen him share stages in Europe and the US with The KVB, Lust For Youth, Beak>, Silent Servant, and DVA Damas. MEUTE Tumult CD
The impetuous passion of a freaked out marching band finds its new order in the intricacy of electronic music production. Two years after their inception on Hamburg's Schulterblatt street, the self-styled techno marching band Meute release its long-awaited debut album Tumult. A video of their first guerilla gig has won the band more than 60,000 Facebook fans up to now and catapulted them to the top of the list of the most booked festival bands in Europe. Between what now amount to 150 gigs (Lollapalooza, MS Dockville, Trans Musicales, Dour, Ozora, Paléo, YEAH!, Fusion etc.) the musicians have still found time to go into the studio and record their combination of hypnotically rhythmic techno and expressive brass music. The 2016 tracks already released provide a taster of the style of the album. "The techno genre is all grown up now. It's time to acknowledge that with new interpretations and show a different side. Like classical music or jazz", according to Thomas Burhorn, trumpeter and founder of Meute. "In my view techno is in any case descended from the marching band tradition. So we are taking electronic music back to its roots. And then if one day there's no more electricity we'll still be able to throw a techno party."

HEAD & THE RED ELASTIC BAND, MICHAEL Adios Senor Pussycat CD
Michael Head (The Strands, Shack, The Pale Fountains) continues his Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band project with the beautiful and evocative Adiós Señor Pussycat, the first album of new material from Head since 2006. Recorded in his Head's hometown of Liverpool from March 2016 through June 2017, and the culmination of four years of hard work, Adiós Señor Pussycat is equal to Head's finest moments and further cements his reputation as one of his generation's greatest songwriters. Since beginning a self-imposed hiatus from music in 2008, Michael Head has been working with a fluid concept of an ever-rotating band to provide a flexible platform for the range of his live and recorded works. He unveiled Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band in 2013 with the Artorius Revisited EP, and followed this in 2015 with the Velvets In The Dark/Koala Bears 7". Fate, bad luck, and circumstance have often conspired to deny Head his rightful dues. A soulful and poetic genius, he has been loved and lauded by fellow artists and critics alike, after starting out in the early 1980s with The Pale Fountains, with whom he recorded a brace of acclaimed albums (Pacific Street (1984) and ...From Across The Kitchen Table (1985)). He subsequently formed Shack with his brother John and went on to record five albums over almost 20 years, including the much-loved and acclaimed Waterpistol (1995) and H.M.S. Fable (1999) (for which the NME hailed Head as "our greatest songwriter"), while 1997 saw the release of what is widely regarded as his classic work, The Magical World of The Strands (MEGAUK 024CD/LP). Adiós Señor Pussycat, produced by Steve Powell and Michael Head, features the following musicians: Michael Head, vocals and acoustic guitar; Steve Powell, electric and acoustic guitars; Phil Murphy, drums; Tom Powell, bass guitar; Nina, piano; Dan Rogers, electric guitar; Rod Skipp, cello; Dewi Tudor Jones, violin; Helen Tonge, viola; Martin Smith, trumpet; Andy Diagram, trumpet; Simon James, saxophone; Steve Powell, Joanne Head, Phil Murphy, and Mary McCombs, backing vocals; and Michael Head, Phil Murphy, and Karina Townsend, percussion.

NAZORANAI Beginning To Fall In Line Before Me, So Decorously, The Nature Of All That Must Be Transformed LP
"Nazoranai is the supergroup of Keiji Haino, Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley. For close to four decades, Haino has been a legendary figure in Japan's avant-garde community through his commanding presence in the band Fushitsusha and numerous solo ventures. Ambarchi, a prolific electro-acoustic composer of heavy ambience and hypno-rock, has long stood at the leading edge of Australia's experimental music scene, while O'Malley remains a principle architect for the drone / doom metal project Sunn O))) in harnessing extreme sub-harmonic frequencies. Collectively, Nazoranai operates as a live recorded collaboration, although Haino is quick to point out the difference between the words 'nazoranai' (which in Japanese calligraphy means 'not repeating,' as in developing a distinct, individual style) and 'sokky?' (referring specifically to improvisation). In this parsing of terms, the group separates themselves from the free-music scene, which can be just as convention-bound as the established genres from which improvisers hope to escape. On the trio's third album, Beginning To Fall In Line Before Me, So Decorously, The Nature Of All That Must Be Transformed, Nazoranai explore two side-long tracks of superb abstraction. Ambarchi and O'Malley provide the perfect brute-rock rhythm section to Haino's recklessly pure expression through instrument and voice. Blurred noise, dark hurdy-gurdy and thunderous harmonics build an accretive mantra of jagged electricity. While Haino's extensive discography resists easy interpretation, he constantly challenges himself to further his art by channeling the unknown. Shifting from his native Japanese to English, he asks: 'Do you still have a mystery?' This existential plea could apply to the artist's own deep inquisitions or stand to confront his audience about that which eludes their understanding. W.25TH / Superior Viaduct is proud to present Nazoranai's latest work, recorded at SuperDeluxe in Tokyo, which marks the band's first release on an American label."

INVISIBLE CHURCH & MARIE DAVIDSON Whatever Makes You Feel Safe 12"
Bologna's Yerevan Tapes project vivid sci-fi sound designs from producer/signer Marie Davidson and sound designer Invisible Church, making up the duo's first collaborative work, notably starring Theo Parrish playing cymbal on "Ten Years". Marie's vocals signify a ghost in the machine presence on "Collage". "Never Release The Tension" meanwhile isolates and focuses in on a blunted, atonal sort of post-industrial sound design recalling Mika Vainio in its brooding pressure. But the best is definitely saved for last with "Ten Years", where speaker-drooping subs underline sheets of steely grey dissonance, punctuated by the patter and splash of Theo Parrish's cymbal work.
