MOLLONO.BASS Remix Collection IV CD
Sometimes he sounds like the euphorigenic warmth of a spring wind, sometimes he sends you on a fluorescent roller coaster ride through the bends of your brain: Mollono.Bass creates a world of sound that has many different climate zones. His remixes are probably the most vivid proof of this characteristic feature. They cover quite possibly all aspects of electronic dance music, but frequently they also come from genres that are surprisingly remote. Somehow he manages to merge all these different vibes and inspirations into one compelling flow of danceability. That's why the fourth part of the Remix Collection is like a panoramic view of all these different layers of mood and atmosphere. 13 Mollono.Bass remixes of tracks from Shkoon, Slow Nomaden, Bona Fide, Tibau, Into Lala, Slow Nomaden, Elfenberg, Timboletti, Il Civetto, Zigan Aldi, Dole & Kom, Brigade, and Seth Schwarz & Westerby.

2018 repress. Pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve. Remastered for a vinyl release. This 15-track compilation spans the years 1995-2004, featuring key tracks from all their albums as well as live recordings and many unreleased tracks. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many L.A. and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase -- the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegazing genre of the 1990s, and incorporates influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

GHOST MUSIC I Was Hoping You'd Pass By Here LP
LP version. Southend quartet Ghost Music present their evocative debut album I Was Hoping You'd Pass By Here. They create careful, considered songs, weaving lo-fi lullabies with gliding guitars and understated arrangements. Influenced by Silver Jews, Flying Nun and K Records, they explore themes of nature, love, loss, and a melancholic English romanticism embellished with beautifully spectral melodies and executed with startling subtlety. Ghost Music revolves around the songwriting partnership of Matt Randall and Lee Hall, who had played together in the '90s with John Peel favorites Beatglider. Randall has recently received critical acclaim as Plantman, with his three albums -- 2010's Closer To The Snow (ARLEN 006CD, 2013), Whispering Trees (ARLEN 003CD, 2013), and To The Lighthouse (ARLEN 008CD, 2016) -- receiving high praise. When Randall and Hall reunited to collaborate on another album together, they brought in the talents of Roy Thirlwall on bass (Melodie Group) and Leighton Jennings on drums (Dark Globes) to complete the band. The original idea would be that the songs would be "ghosts" and create "ghost music" to resurrect and dust off old songs that they had already started. Lee had found the beginnings of "Home Dog" on a dusty old 4-track and he had recorded "Strange Love" on his iPhone in 2014, whilst Matt had written "My Cloud" as far back as 1997 (the night he moved out of his parents' house). As the album began to take shape, the ghostly premise took a back seat, as they began to breathe new life into the songs they found the impetus to write new ones. Randall explains the songwriting process: "When we were in Beatglider together and in the past we'd made a 'thing' out of writing long songs with a lot of changes. This time we pared it back a bit and stuck to the melodies more. We really wanted to make a proper guitar record. Lee's my favorite guitarist and it was lovely to see him stretch out on these songs with his diamond fingers." Not afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves, Ghost Music's sound is instantly familiar, echoing beloved bands from the '90s such as Pavement, Galaxie 500, Yo La Tengo, and even old-school rock n' roll. Yet Ghost Music's work never feels derivative, being instead effortlessly emotive, melancholic, and affecting, creating a world of sound that is hugely reassuring and a tonic for the modern age.

SEVERED HEADS Brave New Waves Session: Severed Heads CD
"Recorded in CBC's studio live-to-air in 1986 while on tour with Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads' Brave New Waves session is absolutely perfect. Includes never-before heard versions of songs from The Big Bigot and Dead Eyes Open, including the band's hit, Harold & Cindy Hospital, as well as amazing commentary by the always charismatic Tom Ellard. First formed in 1979, Severed Heads is an Australian electronic and experimental project led by Tom Ellard since 1981. In the mid- to late-80s, the project saw its biggest commercial successes with releases on Nettwerk, Billboard chart positions, and huge European and American tours. MILLS, JEFF And Then There Was Light CD
Poignant, aggressive, but serene sound track created by Jeff Mills for And Then There Was Light, a Japanese film directed by Tatsushi Omori based on the novel Hikari by Shion Miura. The music is an additional character in the scenes, showing the determination of the people and a great sense of loss, agony, and love.A synopsis of the film: On Mihama, an island off the coast of Tokyo, a middle school student, Nobuyuki, will do anything for his beautiful girlfriend and classmate, Mika. One night, he catches her in the arms of another man. Thinking quickly, Mika responds by pretending that she is being molested and calls for Nobuyuki's help. Nobuyuki naturally obliges and ends up killing the man. But someone witnessed the incident: a young neighbor named Tasuku, who looks up to Nobuyuki. That night, a devastating tsunami hits the island, wiping out most of its residents. All is quiet. Fast forward 25 years later, and Mika has become an actress leading a glamorous life. Nobuyuki, meanwhile, is married to another woman and has a five-year-old daughter. The past appears to have been buried for good, until one day the only witness to the crime, Tasuku, reappears with a vendetta on his mind. First, he seduces Nobuyuki's wife and begins an illicit affair with her. He then sends incriminating evidence of the long-lost crime to Mika. Once again, Nobuyuki finds himself needing to protect Mika.

LIMINANAS, THE Shadow People CD
"What was old is new again" ... The old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word "old", when the important one is "new". Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in The Limiñanas's fifth album -- no rest for the wicked of Perpignan -- which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, "Ouverture", with its almost surf-like guitars, comes "Le Premier Jour", where Lionel Limiñana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads, and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of "Istanbul Is Sleepy": the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner's super sexy tornado on the title track; and "Dimanche" follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a "French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films." "The Gift" features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here; obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limiñanas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a kraut Morricone, "Motorizzati Marie" followed by "Pink Flamingos", introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album... before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of "Trois Bancs" violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: "De La Part Des Copains"; its organ, its tambourine, its quaver, and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible, faultless record. The rock n' roll epiphany thus continues. It belongs to those who will listen -- full blast -- to Shadow People and will doubtless feel the urge to plug a guitar into an amp. A valve amp, of course. CD version comes in three-panel digipocket with spot varnish; Includes poster booklet.

HIGH RISE II LP
Black Editions present a reissue of High Rise's II, originally released in 1986. High Rise exploded onto Tokyo's underground music scene with the roar and reckless abandon of a motorcycle accelerating headlong into a dead man's curve. Born from the explosive chemistry of bassist/vocalist Asahito Nanjo and frenetic guitarist Munehiro Narita, the band blazed a wild new stream of psychedelic guitar music. Their second album is a defining document of the band and unquestionably one of the greatest albums to emerge from 20th century underground Japan and beyond. With Nanjo's distorted thunder bass and Narita's wildly narrative lead guitar playing, II is a non-stop tour de force of improvised rock music. Combining elements of garage rock, punk, and no wave, the band pushed all levels fully in-the-red and transcended the limits of rock and psychedelia to create a raw, unique expansion of the music. Black Editions present High Rise's II, newly mixed and mastered by Asahito Nanjo in what the band states is the definitive version of their most quintessential recording. This new edition restores the original vinyl version's textured black and silver artwork. Housed in heavy Stoughton tip-on jacket. Pressed onto high quality vinyl by RTI.

CURRAN, ALVIN Natural History LP
Restocked; Black Truffle present the first-ever vinyl issue of Alvin Curran's Natural History, originally released on cassette by Edition Giannozzo Berlin in 1983. A founding member of the radical electronic improvising group Musica Elettronica Viva, since the early 1970s Curran has developed an idiosyncratic body of solo work that occupies a unique position in the post-Cageian experimental tradition. Singularly undogmatic, Curran's work takes the Cageian experience as the starting point for a radical openness to all forms of music and sound. Refusing to abstract music from its human functions, his work draws on existing musical genres, cutting-edge electronics and environmental recordings to craft compositions that mimic the hazy texture of everyday life, moving from the abstract to the referential, from the observational to the emotive, from the structured to the random. As he reflects in the liner notes written especially for this edition: "This infinite stream of sound became my life and my music all at once". Curran's other classic solo works of the 1970s and 1980s, such as Songs and Views of the Magnetic Garden (1975) and Canti Illuminati (1982) are elaborate collages that combine keyboard and voice improvisation and composition with field-recorded environments. Natural History consists entirely of field recordings from Curran's archive, arranged as a series of "still lifes", sometimes layered, but without any additional processing. Sounds recorded over the course of nearly twenty years, at Curran's home in Rome or while traveling: constructions sites, insects, children's toys, a piano being tuned, foghorns, familiar to admirers of Curran masterful Maritime Rites (2004), lovemaking, a singing neighbor. It is, as Curran says, an attempt to "put the sound of the entire world on a cassette tape". Heard against the backdrop of the increasing prevalence of field recordings in contemporary music over the last few years, Natural History is like a refreshing breeze, suffused with the joy of discovery. Gatefold sleeve with liner notes and photos by Alvin Curran and design by Stephen O'Malley. Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates.

FOREVER PAVOT La Pantoufle CD
You might know Émile Sornin as the son, the pupil, who saw fathers of his among the pioneers of baroque, progressive, and psychedelic pop; who found big brothers by heart and aesthetics in Aquaserge; the (nearly) solitary creator of the "fine retro-maniac piece of work" (The Drone), Rhapsode, in 2014 (BORNBAD 066CD/LP). After experiences in metal, garage, hip hop, he had spent a lot of time exploring, mixing together, digging, getting to the roots with the seriousness of a young man on a quest for territories to occupy. An insatiable jack-of-all-trades, he directed delirious videos for Dizzee Rascal or Disclosure when he wasn't combing the countryside to discover new instruments -- the movie Le Bon Coin Forever (2016). Here is Émile Sornin the (new) father, the dubbed artist, the one-man-studio fully aware of his essential influences (French '70s movie soundtracks -- Philippe Sarde, François De Roubaix, Francis Lai -- rather than Italian giallo soundtracks, synth pioneers such as Wendy Carlos or Mort Garson, library music à la Camille Sauvage, Claude Vasori, and Roger Roger); the captain of a dense, tight live band. The man called by producer Sebastian to the bedside of -- scoop -- Charlotte Gainsbourg's next album. The man who just gave birth to La Pantoufle. From shore to shore, Émile Sornin incorporated into his music the humor and self-mockery he didn't dare to embrace in the past. He dropped English to explore sideways his mother tongue, the tongue that says "ça lance", "ça m'est égal", and "c'est pas si dégueu". He unleashed his instrumental eloquence -- more obsessive than ever arrangement-wise, more jazz and nervous execution-wise, not balking at any dramatic effect to seize the listener's perceptions. Most importantly, he drew on his own memories and blanks ("La Pantoufle Dans Le Puits", "La Soupe À La Grolle", "Les Groseilles Au Fond Du Jardin") to give rise to suspense, fiction, and interpretations. Built as an imaginary movie in which genres collide from one scene to the next (crime film, romance, comedy, erotica, slasher -- you name it), La Pantoufle draws on childhood joys and terrors, only to reenchant them. This is how Forever Pavot takes on its role as a "Father", laying the foundations for a bright future.

SCHLAMMPEITZIGER Damenbartblick auf Pregnant Hill CD
Swallowing air and farting it out, that's the main life skill of the weatherfish. But what's best about him is his evocative German name: Schlammpeitziger. When German electronic artist Jo Zimmermann launched his solo career in the early 1990s, he chose to be identified with this creature living in the flat muddy waters of the European and Asian plains. Unlike the fish, Schlammpeitziger's early reputation was built on his inventive use of cheap Casio synthesizers and the use of composite nouns to name but his first five albums. This here is his eleventh, and while Schlammpeitziger's art has moved on, true to his nature it does contain some colorful references to farting. In this forest of mysteries, his schematic, fastidiously executed drawings function as explanatory systems that are funny but at the same time complex and occult. It maps out a non-physical world that is being triggered by events in the common world, but initially only takes shape in Schlammpeitziger's perception by means of impressions buffered in Schlamm-RAM and decoded in quick succession using enormous flows of incoming and outgoing catalytic energy. Like his paintings, these formulas appear similar to seismographic studies: invisible vibrations are recorded and translated into new alphabets. In his search for inspiration, Schlammpeitziger is the eternal pedant, following up the most inconspicuous leads to find different ways of making sense of reality. A magnetist's curiosity drives this folklorist of the self, deep into the thickets of the world. Where others get caught up in well-worn symbolisms or cling to new age rituals with their drones and flickering lights, Schlammpeitziger is taking it easy. He turns his toes inwards, rotates his hips, and beams light signals up into the dark. Jo Zimmermann has the primal funk, a beat that can thread anything together. That certain clap, the short gaps between accents, not to mention the physicality of the bass taking care of the lower levels. In all of this, Schlampeitziger's own movements are an invitation to join his parade of mysteries. For those looking for a future that doesn't reach back into the past but is searching for access to engrossment, Schlammpeitziger's radiation therapy of sound should be just the ticket.

FONDATION Les Cassettes 1980-1983 CD
In the early 1980s, the French musical duo Fondation, comprising Ivan Coaquette and Anannka Raghel, released three tapes of fantastic electronic music which owed much to the experimentalism of the seventies. Synthesizer, drum computer, solo guitar. Repetitive, meditative, hypnotic -- between ambient and synth pop. Les Cassettes 1980-1983 presents a selection of their finest pieces from this period. During an extended sojourn in Italy around 1970, the multi-instrumentalist Ivan Coaquette contributed to the highly experimental artist collective Musica Elettronica Viva, who were on a mission to liberate music from every form of convention. Back in France, he played in various experimental prog rock bands such as Spacecraft and Delired Cameleon Family. His wife Anannka began learning to play the piano at the age of four, studied music theory, and sang together with her father, a professional vocalist. Her focus subsequently shifted to theater and dance, but she would return to music, taking up piano and singing lessons again and playing in bands like Spacecraft, Pandemonium, Zed, and Chantal Grimm. Between 1980 and 1983 they managed to release three lovingly crafted cassettes. Opting for this format rather than the LP was not solely an economic decision. The duo stated a preference for the longer playing time which cassettes afforded. All three tapes had a running time of around 60 minutes. Fondation created sonic collages underpinned by synthesizer, organ, drum computer, and guitar, enhanced by bursts of noise, field recordings, diverse percussion instruments, and the occasional wordless lament sung by Anannka Raghel. Although synthetic sounds are the "foundation" of all Fondation pieces, synthesizers are not -- in contrast to "classic" Berlin School (Berliner Schule) acts such as Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze -- especially prominent in their music. Noteworthy is the use of a Korg X-911 guitar synthesizer, related to the popular black series Korg MS-20 synthesizer. The X-911 transforms a monophonic input signal into synthetic sound. The source instrument for this signal is revealed in its name. Thanks to their use of the X-911 guitar synthesizer, Fondation was successful in blurring the distinction between synthesizers and guitars with a synthetic sound. For this album, Bureau B have selected the most intriguing and illuminating tracks from the three tapes Metamorphoses (1980), Sans Etiquette (1980), and Le Vaisseau Blanc (1983).

SANKARE, HAMA Ballebe - Calling All Africans CD
Alpha Ousmane "Hama" Sankaré (aka Pedro) is a legend. He has anchored the bands of many great artists of Mali: Ali Farka Toure, Afel Bocoum, le Troupe Regionale de Niafunké, l'Orchestre de Gao, Songhoy Allstars, and Mamadou Kelly's BanKaiNa, and he can be heard on many of the seminal recordings of Mali's music. He is the master of contemporary calabash percussion and defined it's the playing style. He has toured the world. Hama's influence is unchallenged as composer, arranger, and instrumentalist. Unbelievably, Ballébé - Calling All Africans is the first album in his own name! A musical adventurer, Hama explores sounds and is constantly expanding his repertoire. His knowledge of tradition reaches deeply into the past as he looks into the future for inspiration. For this album, Hama sought a variety of sounds. He asked Grammy-winning guitarist Cindy Cashdollar, whom he met in Woodstock New York in 2016, to bring her distinctive slide guitars to some of the tunes. He also asked the young singer Sekou Touré to join him. Oumar Konaté brought his guitar virtuoso skills and Sekou Bah anchors the tracks on bass. Also joining in were Mahalmadane Traoré on drums and Brehima "Yoro" Cissé and Bouba Cissao on traditional stringed instruments. To explore contemporary electronic sounds, Hama asked David Harrow in Los Angeles to mix two of the songs, pushing genre boundaries. Hama looked for loops and effects in the mix to reflect his diverse influences, while always remaining centered in Niafunke desert blues, his home in the Niger River Delta of Mali. A tour de force by Malian master musician Hama Sankaré. CD version includes two tracks: an instrumental of "Middo Wara" and a radio edit of "Haira Alhawa".

VA Tokyo Nights: Female J-Pop Boogie Funk 1981 to 1988 2LP
Repressed; double LP version. "Following successful disco excavation from the Caribbean to South Africa, Boston-based label Cultures of Soul booked a first class ticket to Narita to bring you the latest release, Tokyo Nights: Female J-Pop Boogie Funk: 1981 to 1988. This compilation presents 12 of the most memorable and sought-after songs of the era recorded by female artists. The music is a reflection of the unbridled optimism, technological achievement, excess and exuberance of Bubble-era Japan. More than catchy melodies and funky baselines, these are reflections of a time when Japan was the center, and future of the world. The Bubble can be characterized as an endless, extravagant party where personal and corporate wealth soared through the explosion of real estate and stock prices. Scores of young Japanese men and women moved to cities in search of affluence, transforming them into neon wonderlands. Changes in morals, values and gender roles followed suit. Prosperity leads to indulgence, and the taste for nightlife, from flashy restaurants to glitzy discotheques, was unquenchable. A soundtrack to this new, lavish lifestyle was necessary and the latest sound, City Pop (urban pop music for those with urban lifestyles), epitomized these attitudes. While influenced by American R&B and boogie, elements of fusion, YMO style Technopop, and adult-oriented rock (AOR) are front and center. Sung primarily in Japanese (with a word or two of English sprinkled in), City Pop is Japanese music for Japanese people. Producers like Tatsuro Yamashita, Toshiki Kadomatsu, and Haruomi Hosono were quick to embrace the latest studio equipment and technology. Synthesizers like the Yamaha DX7, Roland Juno-60, ARP Quadra, Moog Polymoog and Oberheim OB-8, as well as drum machines like the Linndrum, were prevalent. Digital reverb was applied liberally. Compiled by Eli Cohen (Alliance Upholstery) and Deano Sounds (Cultures of Soul), Tokyo Nights includes tracks by Hitomi Tohyama, Junko Ohashi, Mizuki Koyama, Kaoru Akimoto, Aru Takamura, Mariko Tone, Rie Murakami, RA MU, Kikuchi Momoko and Yumi Seino. Each selection celebrates the unique traits and meticulous production that define the sound. Think sandy beaches and metropolitan skylines; illumination and romance. Embrace the feeling of movement, from a coastal highway stretching towards the horizon or the city sprawling into the future. Turn on the hi-fi and slip into these Tokyo Nights."

BUTTERFLY CHILD Onomatopoeia 2LP
Double LP version. Dell'Orso Records present a reissue of Butterfly Child's debut Onomatopoeia, originally released in 1993. In the early summer of 1993, Rough Trade released Onomatopoeia, the first album by Belfast native Joe Cassidy's Butterfly Child. Having first come to the public's attention after a wave of press resulting from two EPs released on dream pop legends' A.R. Kane's H.ark! label, an incendiary first BBC John Peel Session, and a UK tour supporting The Sundays, Cassidy recorded Onomatopoeia in a couple of weeks with the help of longtime friend and collaborator Gary McKendry of the now infamous Papa Sprain. Gleefully using a shoestring budget that felt like a one-million dollar advance, Cassidy and McKendry bought an 8-track tape machine, a cheap drum machine, an even cheaper reverb unit, a secondhand synthesizer, and a bunch of tea. They then proceeded into the album's recording sessions with a classic Irish carefree attitude and confidence. As Cassidy recalled: "I always felt that no matter how little audio equipment or musical instruments we had back then, that it was always possible to make something really special, despite our limitations. In fact, having extreme limitations often helped push us to get the most out of the solitary synth or the one bad drum machine with silly tom sounds that we had at our disposal. I love that the song 'Our Lady Mississipp', for example, is like the nursery school jazz version on the album, and then by the time we did the second Peel Session six months later, I had Pendle on guitar, James Harris on bass, and a fantastic drummer (Richie Thomas of Dif Juz, Moose, The Jesus And Mary Chain, This Mortal Coil), finally realizing what the adult version of that song could sound like." Part of Onomatopoeia's charm that still holds true almost 25 years later is its child-like, timeless quality -- it sounds nothing like anything of its time. It is a unique and beautiful collection of "almost songs" that flourish as a whole body of work that beg the listener to delve deeper, to get lost in the aether of its lyrics, and to let it quietly roar all over you.

SLY & ROBBIE MEET DUBMATIX Overdubbed CD
In reggae, all roads lead to the "Riddim Twins", Sly & Robbie. They've been revered as style-defining icons for years, and together and individually have a massive influence on the genre. They are also renowned for their willingness to shatter boundaries and experiment with sounds. Over the past decades, they have never been shy of leaping over into other genres -- for instance, their timeless, super-tight production work for Grace Jones. Now, Sly & Robbie meet Dubmatix. The Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist got his hands on original Sly & Robbie tracks and spent months crafting this new album, Overdubbed. Dubmatix is celebrated for his out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to experiment, and the album shines with fresh ideas. Sly & Robbie's tunes, which are originally without vocals, haven't simply been dubbed; extracting the individual essence of each track, Dubmatix has added a plethora of tweaks, ideas and individuality, making his musical signature clearly audible. On some tracks, he invited vocalists, including Jay Spaker (John Brown's Body), Screechy Dan, and Prince Alla, to contribute their unique style. As well as Dubmatix himself, the album features many other musicians. The result is an album that shines with eclectic diversity. From roots-oriented tunes to dubs for the clubs, there's a bit of everything. Dubmatix's refreshingly playful, bass-heavy approach creates new highlights while at the same time paying deserved homage to two world-class musicians. Also features Megative and Treson.

BASHO, ROBBIE Live in Forli, Italy 1982 CD
Robbie Basho (1940-86), who died young after a stroke, never got his due in the culture at large, but steel-string guitar enthusiasts have known for decades that he was one of the greats of "American Primitivism". Technically adept and compositionally imaginative, fusing the music of many cultures into a mesmerizing solo style, he has been an inspiration for many; his music has generated a surge of interest in recent years. This 1982 concert was part of a four-show Italian tour. It took place at the 18th-century Palazzo Gaddi that housed the local music high school and was mostly used for classical concerts, in an intimate space co-organizer Mario Calvitti (whose memories of the events surrounding this concert make up the bulk of the liner notes) says Basho called it "one lovely little room where I could play all night." Only previously released incompletely as a download, this show can now be heard in its full glory. This release is in cooperation with the Official Robbie Basho Archives. No. 2 in the RB-Archives-Live series. Produced by Buck Curran; Co-released with Obsolete Recordings."American musician Robbie Basho (1940-1986) is without doubt one of the greatest pioneers of world guitar music. To this day, his songs and compositions for the acoustic guitar remain wholly unique, contemporary, and otherworldy. Though largely unknown in Italy when he toured there in 1982 (in the company of Italian acoustic guitarist Maurizio Angeletti), the small to medium size audiences who attended his performances were overwhelmingly sympathetic to his musical vision and deeply entranced in the glow of his musical presence. From what is documented on this recording from Forlì, we are given witness to Basho's idiosyncratic spirit and musical artistry. Wielding only a six and twelve-string guitar and his powerful voice, we hear rapturous fingerpicking and singing. As the concert evolves, Basho's spirit rises high above terra firma as he transforms into a wild mythical winged stallion, riding waves of colour and sound ... charging across plains of cosmic light towards the outer regions of space and time." --Buck Curran, September 11, 2017, Bergamo, Italy

REIDY, JULIA All Is Ablaze LP
"Recently we touched base with the New Zealand ex-pat guitarist Dean Roberts. He's living in Berlin these days, teaching, playing and staying out late. When asked if there were any interesting, unheralded players we should know about he immediately mentioned Julia Reidy. Julia is also a guitarist currently based in Berlin, but the city from which she's apart is Sydney, NSW. While there she was embroiled in the Australian improv scene, and played with the likes of Jon Rose et al. She was focused exclusively on electric guitar back in those days. Since relocating to Europe she has split her concentrations between electric and acoustic, playing in two duos -- Tennis of All Kinds (with bassist Adam Pultz Melbye) and PALES (with percussionist Samuel Hall) -- among other settings. On All Is Ablaze Ms. Reidy plays both an acoustic 12 string and an electric, both of which sound unusually raw and exciting in her hands. Each side of the record consists of a single piece, the A is 'All Is Ablaze,' the flip, 'Thatched Steel & Rain.' In his notes, Dean writes about the beautiful contrasts of the music's textures, drawing apt comparisons to everyone from Robbie Basho to Tom Cora. As these namechecks might suggest, Julia's first LP embraces a nearly unknowable field of sonic detailing. Her technique can sound precise and smudgy at almost the same moment. The intent of her journey seeming to shift with her breathing patterns. There is an organic depth and weight to the music here, displaying an exceptionally wide breadth of influence, knowledge, chops and imagination. We would like to thank Mr. Roberts for introducing us to the music of Julia Reidy. You will soon be doing the same." --Byron Coley, 2017 Edition of 300.

REICH/TERRY RILEY, STEVE Six Pianos / Keyboard Study #1 LP
Restocked; LP version. Includes download code. After the widely noticed performance at the "Acht Brücken Festival 2016" at Cologne's Philharmonic Hall, Gregor Schwellenbach, Hauschka, Erol Sarp (of Grandbrothers), Daniel Brandt and Paul Frick (both of Brandt Brauer Frick) and John Kameel Farah release their interpretation of Steve Reich's "Six Pianos" as a studio recording via FILM. The re-recording of this piece is an interpretation of Reich's composition but still far more than just that - it is a modern approach to his idea behind it. The basic idea came up at the beginning of the '70s at the Baldwin Piano & Organ Company in New York. During a rehearsal phase, which Steve Reich spent in this very piano store, the idea emerged of writing a composition for all the grand pianos available to him at the company. By the time of the finished piece, the actual number of pianos had settled down to six, where "Six Pianos" developed in 1973. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the six pianists declare their love to Steve Reich with this release. Shaped by electronic club music as well as their classical education, they form "Six Pianos" in dignified modernity and top it off with today's sound aesthetics and technical recording possibilities. Presented here is not the recording from the Kölner Philharmonie (Cologne Philharmonics), but the ensemble playing six different grand pianos in six different locations throughout Germany. Each pianist performed his part on his piano using his typical studio equipment and passed the recording over to the next one. Thus the six characteristic and individual timbres of the performers overlay to create the overall picture - "Six Pianos" the way it should be looked at in 2016. Jan Brauer mixed "Six Pianos" in the studio while Lukas Vogel provided delays for the "Keyboard Study #1". "Keyboard Study #1" by Terry Riley is a worthy companion for Reich's composition. The piece is kind of a building set of ever lengthening, repetitive patterns played against each other with the right and left hand displaced. The composition proposes various possible combinations for the performer to choose from and repeat at will. And what the performers have chosen proves Gregor Schwellenbach's assumption: "Terry Riley's and Steve Reich's music are open doors for pianists socialized by pop music and their audience."

INDIAN OCEAN School Bell/Treehouse 12"
"Chances are if you are reading this, you are probably already familiar with Dinosaur L's 'Go Bang' and danced countless times to Loose Joints' 'It's All Over My Face'. A prolific musician, Arthur Russell produced an abundant amount of recordings over the course of his career. Although a classically trained cellist, he released a number of successful underground dance hits under various monikers and collaborations. As a solo artist however, his inability to complete projects resulted in a limited amount of official releases; World of Echo (1986) being his only full-length solo effort to see release in his lifetime. After releasing a number of Club singles on labels like West End & Sire, Russell went on to form Sleeping Bag Records with Will Socolov as an outlet for a sound not as restrictive as his 'disco' material. The initial concept was that Russell would provide the musical direction while Socolov handled the business side. The label had huge success early on with Class Action's 'Weekend' remixed by Larry Levan, and Russell's seminal 'Go Bang,' credited to Dinosaur L and remixed by Francois Kevorkian. Although Russell and Socolov shared a lot of musical common ground, the difference in vision began to show. Russell's avant-garde sensibilities and perfectionism were not compatible with an industry standard to release singles in quick succession, and his 'work in progress' approach began to be financially draining, ultimately resulting in the dissolution of their partnership around 1983. With Arthur's departure, Sleeping Bag moved away from the experimental and towards a successful hip-hop route with the growing involvement of Kurtis Mantronik and leading to propel the careers of artists like Todd Terry, Just-Ice and EPMD. By the mid-80s, Russell's health began to deteriorate after contracting HIV. Although the business partnership did not work out, Socolov and Russell maintained their friendship. Aware of the time he had left, Russell reached out to Socolov to record what was to become Indian Ocean, his last release on Sleeping Bag and the last great collaboration between Arthur and his old friend Walter Gibbons. Unlike the rest of Russell's Dance collaborations, 'School Bell/Treehouse' is very intimate composition, putting to the forefront all the elements that defined him musically; with his own voice and cello as the anchors to a piece that keeps growing in intensity, melding the tribal rhythms of Mustafa Ahmed's conga with percussions that sound like distorted drum machines. There is a lot of beauty in this piece, with Peter Zummo's melancholic trombone lines and Arthur's keyboard playing. Adequately 'mixed with love' by Walter Gibbons, 'School Bell/Treehouse' really synthesizes the energy and soundscapes of Arthur's dancefloor."

CLARKE, JOHNNY Rockers Time Now LP
"Get On Down presents an often overlooked crucial reggae release from the 1970s with Johnny Clarke's Rockers Time Now. The record is a mix of covers and originals, including ethereal versions of the The Abyssinians 'Satta Massagana' and 'Declaration of Rights,' smash hits on the island just the year before. Rockers Time Now was first issued in 1976, Clarke had just been named artist of the year in Jamaica for the second year in a row. This is just one of three full lengths he released that year as this was a very prolific period for Clarke, in particular from 1974 onward when his output was directed by legendary producer Bunny Lee. The pairing resulted in a creative energy that resonates to this day. The release was recorded at Channel 1 with Bunny Lee producing, which of course means the band backing the popular Jamaican vocalist was The Aggrovators, which at the time included Robbie Shakespeare, Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Augustus Pablo, and Aston 'Family Man' Barrett. The release was mixed at King Tubby's by Osbourne Ruddock...aka King Tubby. Crucial all the way around. Now is the time to rediscover a classic of the genre, Rockers Time Now."

DIRTMUSIC Bu Bir Ruya CD
"We need music like this to stay sane." --Murat ErtelDirtmusic return for their fifth album, a full-scale collaboration with Turkish-psych visionary Murat Ertel from Baba Zula. Recorded in Istanbul, the album navigates hypnotic rhythms, cinematic atmospheres and dark political realities. The striking figure of Murat Ertel is standing at the door of his home studio, a converted mechanic's garage in a suburb of Istanbul. The Turkish capital is a tense and conflicted place these days, but Baba Zula's leader and saz man is on fine form. Before him stand those current and former musical nomads, Chris Eckman and Hugo Race, guitars in hand. Dirtmusic are about to take on their latest, and perhaps most thrilling form. Originally a straight-talking, mainly acoustic trio mining blues and country for 21st century gold, the band's first happy accident was to stumble upon Tamikrest at the fabled Festival au Désert in Timbuktu in 2008. In the meantime, however, the Islamist takeover of Northern Mali in 2012 had darkened the sound and the songwriting, giving them a tone that continues to resonate through the new record. The opening track, "Bi De Sen Söyle", is a statement of intent, musically and lyrically: shared vocals that mass in urgent call-and-response, the psychedelic grip of Ertel's saz, which barely leaves the record for a second, and percussion from Ümit Adakale that tells you that this is music for clubs and parties as much as for private spaces. It shares this with "The Border Crossing", the prime slice of Pop Group-inflected postpunk-funk that follows it. It's a questing, restless record for the head, but perhaps more so for the body. It broods throughout, as post-punk, Turkish psych, funk, rock and electronics stalk the grooves with widescreen intent -- listen to 'Safety In Numbers', for example, an instant classic that sees Race in imperious form, or "Love Is A Foreign Country", which features a startling appearance by Gaye Su Akyol, a treat for those who loved her Hologram ?mparatorlu?u (GB 040CD/LP, 2016). Personnel: Hugo Race - vocals, guitars, bass, loops, programming; Chris Eckman - vocals, guitars, loops, kalimba; Murat Ertel - vocals, electric saz, divan saz, ba?lama rhythm machine; Ümit Adakale - darbuka, davul, bendir, percussion. Also features Gaye Su Akyol, Brenna Mac Crimmon, and Görkem ?en.

VA Sicily Jass: The World's First Man In Jazz CD+DVD
A journey inside the Sicilian chromosome of jazz, forgotten by the official history; the incredible story of a Sicilian who became the world's first man in jazz. Sicily Jass: The World's First Man In Jazz is a film directed by Michele Cinque, about the life, the music, and times of Nick La Rocca, a son of Sicilian immigrants, a self-taught cornet player, and leader of the Original Dixieland Jass Band, the New Orleans based combo which eventually recorded the first jazz record, in New York, in 1917. Moving between fiction and documentary, while travelling from a timeless Sicily through New Orleans past and present, the film follows the infectious rhythms of early jazz and goes deep into an introspective journey narrated by the voice, the gestures and the puppets of Sicilian master Mimmo Cuticchio. Thanks to the special contribution of historians and jazz critics and along with the discovery of precious archive materials, the film will give the audience the chance to re-live both the incredible success and the sad decline of La Rocca and his fellow musicians. The voice of Nick La Rocca himself, caught in a hitherto unpublished interview, together with the intimacy of the tale of Nick's son, Jimmy, will lead the viewer to discover why La Rocca and his men are often forgotten within the official history of jazz. Needless to add that Sicily Jass comes with an amazing soundtrack, curated by Mark Berenford and carefully remastered by Nick Dellow. The accompanying CD features the ODJB's historical 1917 recordings, along with a selection of extra tracks by illustrious contemporaries such as Louis Armstrong Orchestra, Joe Venuti, Bix Beiderbeck & His Gang, Fletcher Henderson and His Orchestra, and Red Nichols 5 Pennies, amazing recordings from the beginning of jazz, over 100 years old. Mark Berenford who also curated the extensive liner notes, is considered one of the most respected experts and most passionate collectors of early jazz and blues. Since 1990, Mr. Berenford has been the editor of Vintage Jazz Mart, the world's leading means for buying and selling rare jazz and blues 78s. Sicily Jass, the film and the soundtrack, come together in two formats: CD+DVD and LP+DVD. DVD language: English; Subtitles: Italian, English, French, Portuguese, Japanese. PRURIENT Rainbow Mirror 7LP BOX
Prurient announces Rainbow Mirror, in addition to the vinyl reissue of Buddha Strangled In Vines (1997), released as a four-CD through Profound Lore and as a seven-LP box set here on Hospital Productions, to coincide with 20th anniversary of the project.Rainbow Mirror is a release exceeding three hours in length, consisting of new material that delves into the glacial, meditative, and ambient side of Prurient creating an epic of pure "Doom Electronics". Rainbow Mirror, which coincides with the 20 year anniversary of Prurient, a project that is steeped in history and origins. The cover art for Rainbow Mirror is the first collage created in the pre-recording era of Prurient. Like the first Prurient live performance 20 years earlier, the Rainbow Mirror lineup consists of three members. For this exhausting work, Dominick Fernow called upon Matt Folden (Dual Action) and Jim Mroz (Lussuria) to form the trio. All of the material was recorded live at Hospital Productions and later meticulously mixed and produced by Shifted in Berlin. Rainbow Mirror stands as another singular work amongst the vast repertoire that Fernow has amassed under the Prurient moniker. While familiar moments from the Frozen Niagara Falls (2015) album can be found within the massive scope of Rainbow Mirror, through the three-plus hour duration of this rural ambient industrial creation, Rainbow Mirror proves to be a monolithic, crawling psychological noisescape of time-stretching electronics, layered counterpoint feedback, machine loops, and maximalist pulsating synth passages. Like the infinite and distorted reflections produced by a hall of mirrors, Rainbow Mirror is a portrait in perpetual tension. Track listing for Rainbow Mirror, which will also include a short story of the same name written by Scott Bryan Wilson and Fernow in the spirit of violent dreams. Expert mastering by Paul Corley. Comes housed in a sturdy black-linen wrapped and pigment-stamped, debossed box with tip-on cover; Each record in its own individual printed jacket; Includes large format two-sided poster; Includes download code.

BRECHT, AMEEL Polygraph Heartbeat LP
"Music is an openhearted gamble; whatever lengthens the day, whatever gets you through the night."Next to being one of the core members of the acoustic deep listening ensemble Razen, Ameel Brecht is a trained guitar player who has a life-long involvement with the instrument's repertoire under his belt. On his debut album Polygraph Heartbeat, he puts his guitar-heart on the line by means of nine compositions for steel resonator and resonator mandolin. The album is a reflection of polyphonic music as seen through a multi-colored and highly personal lens, as Ameel's guitar idiom crossbreeds a classical technique and weird open tunings with a love for early ragtime, slide grandmasters, and baroque music. As is the case with Razen's body of work, Brecht's solo pieces confront because of their pureness and their focus on essential sound. Clear, precise phrases leave room for silence and slowly open a passageway to an undefined in-between world. Carried by a brutal and razor-sharp slide, nervousness, and a languidly brooding atmosphere occasionally cut through the stillness. The transparent lyricism is not without a number of sonic shocks that expose Ameel as a former club-dweller and as fan of the Voivod guitarist Denis D'amour. Polygraph Heartbeat is an album which shows a committed musician who employs control and craftsmanship in order to dissect the condition humaine of the 21st century.

ZAPPA, FRANK Have A Little Tush: Michigan State University Broadcast 1974 2CD
"By early 1974 Frank Zappa was touring with a smaller band of musicians, albeit one still going under The Mothers Of Invention moniker. This ensemble variously included Ian Underwood (reeds, keyboards), Ruth Underwood (vibes, marimba), Sal Marquez (trumpet, vocals), Napoleon Murphy Brock (sax, flute and vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone), Tom Fowler (bass), Chester Thompson (drums), Ralph Humphrey (drums), George Duke (keyboards, vocals), and Jean-Luc Ponty (violin), the majority of whom also appeared on Zappa's two albums released that year: March's 'solo' LP Apostrophe, and September's Roxy & Elsewhere (largely recorded live at the end of '73). In the latter months of the 1974, he was out again, but now just with Murphy-Brock, Duke, Thompson and Ruth Underwood -- for reasons unknown, husband Ian was not onboard. It was this line-up who performed with Frank at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI on November 23rd, a show which was recorded for live FM broadcast, albeit only by the University's own radio station, making reception of the gig fairly limited in its geographical scope. This show is now available on this double-CD set, a recording rarely heard before and one that Zappa fans will certainly wish to add to their collections."

CLUSTER Zuckerzeit LP+CD
2018 repress. Originally released in 1974, Zuckerzeit marked a turning point for these seminal German space rockers. Recorded shortly after their move away from the metropolis of Berlin, it sees some of the abrasiveness of their earlier material slightly diffusing. With the addition of proto drum machines and the producing talents of Michael Rother, their sound here - while remaining firmly in anchored in experimental territory - has more pop sensibility. Newly packaged with the CD of the album.

KUF Universe CD
KUF create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. Voices recorded in private are chopped up and brought out center-stage to sing with beats hammered out right here and now. Glowing synths push forward. Basslines rise to grab the melodic role of a track while a vowel is truncated and locked into a grid, driving the rhythm. Voices move within the frame of a sample, performed by hands pushing keys, guided by the ear, immersed in a trio session's deep flow... A vortex of quirky hands, responsive ears and glowing circuits. Since Thomas A. Edison first recorded the human voice in 1877, the recording arts have changed music forever. Musicians have explored the endless possibilities of bouncing their input onto layers of tape, off the walls of an echo chamber or the circuitry of electronic helpers -- technology that modulates, spatializes, shifts, divides, or multiplies the work of human hands and mouths. An era of sampling offered a cubistic analysis of the recorded past and DJs took dancers onto intricately fractured time travels. This is the historic foundation that KUF keep probing. Just like the sampler and the DJ before them, they found new ways to re-allocate where machine and man stand when making music together. Most importantly, they turn the resulting friction into sparkling bursts of energy. Universe digs deeper into the android vocal chords. The album offers sweeping melodies, different beats, and persistent bass. Immerse in the intimacy of the voices, probably recorded in trains, backstage areas, and at late night private parties during Berlin Lichtenberg warehouse rehearsals. By striking the keys, KUF squeeze out and serve up all the soul accumulated in those savory phonetic shreds. Wood striking metal, thick bass strings moving air, oscillators humming eagerly. Physical and electrical, alive and stunningly beautiful -- after a year well spent in smoky clubs, on festival stages and in extensive nocturnal sessions, KUF deliver chapter two of their unfolding saga.

SIN FANG, SOLEY & ORVAR SMARASON Team Dreams CD
Team Dreams is the collaborative album of Sin Fang, Sóley, and Örvar Smárason of múm and FM Belfast. It combines the individual strengths of the three acclaimed musicians, and blends folk sensibilities with futuristic pop beats. Imagine you commit to writing and releasing a song as fast as possible within a few days. You would never believe the immense beauty and intriguing shapes of these 12 songs are the result of said silly idea, a fun project basically. "I remember driving to the countryside just after finishing my last album," Sin Fang recollects how Team Dreams came about. "My album took a really long time to make and some of the songs on the album were two years old. I thought: 'Wouldn't it be fun to write a song and release it the day after?' So I talked to Örvar and Sóley and we all agreed to make a song in three days every month." The three share quite a history together, as well as with Morr Music. Years ago, Sóley joined Sin Fang's indie folk band Seabear, before both started out solo and regularly featured on each other's albums. They were surely inspired by Iceland's electronica icons múm, co-founded by Örvar Smárason. For this record, everyone brought their distinct sound and musical ideas to the table. There is Sóley's ethereal presence and fantasy-tinged songscapes, Sin Fang's ability to craft powerful pop anthems, and Örvar's experience with translating emotions into heartwarming sound. Songs like "Tennis" wander between bonfire intimacy and slow-paced beats that echo cutting-edge R&B and club productions by artist like Jam City and Kelela. The album is filled with this kind of calm eclecticism, but also leaves room for the pureness of piano ballads like "Wasted". Although the album might sound quite seamless, like a well-planned affair, it certainly wasn't for the trio. Sóley says for her it was about freedom and taking a welcome risk: "I thought the idea of not being stuck to one sound or genre was really interesting. I think differently when I make a song for this project and it has taught me a lot." This "monthly dose of subtle mayhem", as Örvar called the songs, was destined to become a bigger whole. CD version comes in a digipak.

MORENA Y CLARA No Llores Mas CD
Pharaway Sounds present No Llores Mas, a compilation of recordings from Morena Y Clara. There were two labels in Spain during the '70s which were essential to understand the birth of the rumba-flamenco-pop genre: Belter and Discophon. Thanks to the work of adventurous in-house producers and sound engineers like Josep Llobell, Joan Barcons and Lauren Postigo, funk, rock, disco and jazz arrangements were incorporated to recordings of folkloric flamenco singers and rumba bands. The result was explosive and the Spanish market was flooded with "gipsy-rock" or "rumba pop" 45s and LPs, some of them highly sought-after today by international DJs looking for exotic beats. The apparition of Spanish female duo Las Grecas with their gipsy-rock sound in the '70s created quite a boom in the Spanish market at the time and paved the way for other similar gipsy-rock duos. Morena Y Clara were one of them. Launched by bizarre flamenco producer Lauren Postigo, they released a string of 45s and three LPs (highly sought after now) for the Discophon label. They mixed rumba, flamenco, psychedelic rock, funk, and disco music featuring an amazing production (heavy drums, fuzz-wah-phaser electric guitars, Moog, Hammond) over the wild flamenco female vocals of the duo. No Llores Mas features their psycho-tronic hits like "No Llores Más", "Dejé De Quererte", "Buscando Alegría", and more. Includes booklet with liner notes by Txarly Brown (Achilifunk) and photos.

JUDGE DREAD Dreadmania (It's All In The Mind) CD
Radiation Roots present a reissue of Judge Dread's Dreadmania (It's All In The Mind), originally released in 1972. Dreadmania (It's All In The Mind) is Judge Dread's (nee Alexander Hughes) very first album, originally released by Trojan Records in 1972, and is a confirmed ska and skinhead reggae classic. The least likely of reggae stars, the white, Brixton-raised Dread had previously served as a club bouncer (where he met Derrick Morgan and Prince Buster), wrestler, bodyguard, DJ, and debt collector for Trojan Records, before hitting it big in 1972 with "Big Six" -- inspired by Prince Buster's classic "Big 5" -- which reached number 11 on the UK chart and sold nearly a half a million copies. On the back of that hit, and its follow up "Big Seven", the label quickly assembled an album to cash in on their success, and its title, Dreadmania, aptly summed up the state of the nation, as Judge Dread fever gripped the island. Of course, the two hits were included within, as was "Oh She Is a Big Girl Now", which was subsequently spun off as a single, and "Dr. Kitch", which later reappeared as a B side. Appropriately enough, the Chuck Berry hit "Ding A Ling" was covered, and just in case there were any remaining doubts about the album's contents, there's even a track titled "Donkey Dick". "It's all in the mind/It's all in the mind/The rudeness it's all in the mind," the Judge ruled on the opening track. Perhaps, but Dread could make even a nun blush. He was the king of the double entendre, his clever wordplay and wit a revelation for the staid British. But he also captured the imagination of Jamaicans. Dread wrapped his rude lyrics within perfect reggae backdrops, with many of his songs built around classic Jamaican rhythms, adding further authenticity to his sound.

SIDHARTA, OTTO Indonesian Electronic Music 1979-1992 2CD
Fascinating and unreleased before music by Otto Sidharta, pioneer of Indonesian electronic music. Electronic compositions that integrated natural sounds and urban sounds to this extent were extremely rare at the time they were recorded, which in turn gives them a unique form of intensity. This collection is released as an entry in Sub Rosa's Early Electronic series.Otto Sidharta was born in Bandung, Indonesia November 6, 1955. In 1978 he studied music composition in Jakarta Institute of Arts under guidance of Slamet Abdul Sjukur. In 1984 he continued his post graduate study in composition and electronic music with Professor Ton de Leeuw in Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. In 2015 he started his doctoral study at Institute Seni Indonesia Surakarta, finishing in 2016. Sidharta's interest in using environmental sounds and synthetics sounds to express his musical ideas developed when he was a student at the Jakarta Institute of Arts. EXEK Ahead Of Two Thoughts LP
"Melbourne's EXEK began as a studio project with frontman Albert Wolski before the 2014 formation of the four-piece line up with Andrew Brocchi (synthesizer), Henry Wilson (bass) and Sam Dixon (drums). With the addition of Nell Grant on saxophone, the group's sound entered another dimension that reveals EXEK to be conjuring the ghosts of PiL, This Heat and Swell Maps. Ahead Of Two Thoughts, EXEK's sophomore release, pushes headlong into haunted, post-punk territories. Opening track 'U Mop' pairs sneering vocals with elastic bass and spectral guitars, while the elliptical discourse of 'Weight Loss (Henry's Dream)' is accentuated by reverbed drums that would make Martin Hannett proud. Superior Viaduct's W.25TH imprint presents Ahead Of Two Thoughts, a never-ending loop of dub-infected textures and anxious lyrics. Mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control), this tightly coiled album recorded in 2015-2016 could easily be mistaken for a classic 4AD title from the '80s."

COHEN-SOLAL, ROBERT Les Shadoks CD
WRWTFWW Records announce the release of the complete soundtrack of cult French animated TV series Les Shadoks (1968-1974) by Robert Cohen-Solal, available for the first time ever in its entirety. It's the right in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jacques Rouxel and René Borg's legendary television cartoon. Electro-acoustic pioneer and eminent member of the illustrious GRM (Groupe de recherches musicales, the French equivalent of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop), Robert Cohen-Solal has explored music and sound alongside luminaries such as Bernard Parmegiani, Pierre Henry, Luc Ferrari, and Iannis Xenakis, and is responsible for numerous projects in the field of applied music, soundtracks (documentaries, shorts etc.), and experimental recordings. His work on Les Shadoks is simply extraordinary -- a fascinating and bizarre collage of wacky electro pop (à la Jean-Jacques Perrey), drones, musique concrète, classical, and dadaist sound experiments seamlessly mixed into a cohesive and cinematic listening experience. The ideal soundtrack for what will remain one of the weirdest animated TV series ever created. A true literary, cultural, and philosophical phenomenon in France, Les Shadoks caused a sensation while airing between 1968 and 1974. Its unique combination of Alfred Jarry-style surrealism, off-centered British humor, and US comic strip inspiration, all brought to life by illustrated bird-like creatures (reminiscent of Paul Klee's La machine à gazouiller, or Twittering Machine), left a lasting mark, making the term "Shadok" an oft-used satirical expression to describe policies and attitudes considered to be absurd.Digipack CD version. Cut and mastered from the original reels under the supervision of the artist, and contain liner notes in French and English.
