update, august 2007
windy and carl have been working on new music, and will have a track on a new series being released by The Music Fellowship later this year. the record is very special - a 12" that is one sided and plays from the center to the outside edge. it also has an interesting format - 2 channels to listen to. we will be in one channel, and heavy winged in the other. it is a collaboration of sorts - noisy and erratic mixed with beautiful and droney. not sure of the date for release, but we'll let you know as soon as we do!!

we're also working on several other projects, 3 i think.....one is very rumbly, one is rambling finger picked guitar, and one is a solo record of just windy......it's my noise record - very angry sounding, and i'm thrilled to get it done and out there. no set release dates on any of these things, either, but we're working hard to get them all done.

our music was used in a film called August Evening by Chris Eska, and we're very proud of our involvement in this!! the movie has been garnering beautiful reviews, and one reviewer even said our music was remeniscent of john fahey guitar noodling!! i liked that a lot. how could i ever complain about being compared to john fahey!! you can check out the film's trailer here - www.augustevening.com

we do have a few shows coming up this fall. we'll be playing The Tea House in atlanta georgia on thursday, sept 6th, 2007. we are attending and performing at our friends wedding that weekend! beau and emily are getting married and we have the honor of performing during the ceremony!! can you imagine the pressure? we've been practicing to make sure everything is perfect for our dear friends on their big day....

dear friends, last week we were supposed to have our music used in an online photo essay about a man who takes pictures of water. well, the posting was delayed, and it is up now. if you have a cable modem, this is worth checking out. the woman who put it together did a really nice job, and it has been fun to have our music used in a way we enjoy. well, fun is not the right word. rewarding is a much better term. it just feels nice that someone cared enough to be so arty with our sounds.

i hope you are all healthy and happy!

update, november 2005
The Dreamhouse/Dedications to Flea is out now on Kranky. We are in Europe performing in Portugal and Spain and will return later this month. Please join us on Saturday, November 26th (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) for a return home show at Stormy Records. This show will be videotaped for broadcast on Brainwashed.com's show The Eye. The show will feature a great perfomance by Jessica Bailiff, our friend and cohort on Kranky records. It will also be one of the last shows at this space as financial reasons are causing us to move the store again (those damn iPods have caused this) and we will most likely be out of here in the spring.

windy and carl update, sept 2005
well fall is here and we have been very busy this year. as many of you know, our best friend/dog passed away in feb, and jon whitney helped us release a dedication cd to him. flea is the beautiful balck and white dog you see when you first load in the w&c page through brainwashed, and we sure miss him. but our year has gone on, and here is some info about what we'e been up to and what we're about to do!!

the flea disc was a success, both for us as a way to get through the difficulty of losing our sweet dog after 14 1/2 years, and in the respect that it got us to do new music and people seem to be enjoying it. we've seen some beautiful reviews and received some very nice notes from people who understand the sadness in losing a pet. we've also had many people tell us that is is nice to hear a dog in their homes, and that they can close their eyes and go on the walk with us. it's been very rewarding over all. thank you to everyone who has shared this with us so far.

we have a new double cd coming out on kranky on nov 7th in the usa and nov 14th in europe. the disc is The Dream House / Dedications To Flea and does include the flea disc released by jon whitney earlier this year. we were very surprised and flattered that the flea disc shipped sold out, and while kranky already had the music and art for the dream house, they suggested doing a double cd ep for the price of a single full length cd. so we put together a whole new package for the flea disc (with lots of color pics of flea through his life and with his girlfriends) and it came out pretty cool looking. the dream house art was done by Christy Romanick, and is images of living things. the dream house is a musical representaion of sorts about life after a major loss - about how slowly the curtain does raise again on your life and you can see outside the window that has been closed for so long. it is dedicated to my mom who passed away about 4 1/2 years ago. losing her was why we stopped doing music - i just could not create without her here. in fact, i had a hard time just living with out her, and i'll be forever indebted to carl for his love and support over the past 6 years. life with my mom was very hard before she passed, and was absolutely terrible when she died. i miss her everyday, i think of her everyday, and only through the love and compassion of my family and close friends have i been able to get through it all. so the dream house is all about getting back to where i am supposed to be in life, and i'm really proud of it. visually and musically, i'm really proud of it.

so, where am i supposed to be now? how about on tour!!! kind of a scary prospect, but certainly what i really want to be doing, we'll be playing shows in spain and portugal in nov!! the tour dates are posted here on the website, and if you are in that part of the world, please come see us!! and come say hello to us before or after the show - we love to meet nice new people. we don't really speak any spanish, though - sorry! i have been taught how to ask for the bathroom....anyway, in dec we should be playing toronto (we're hoping to do a show with polmo polpo, who we just love!) and then some selected dates in chicago and pittsburgh. we're hoping for art spaces - somewhere quiet and pretty where people can just lay down and listen. we'll see how it goes.

okay, for now i think that is it. we are having posters made for the dream house with the cover art on them - if you do mail order direct from kranky for the dream house you can request a poster to be sent with your cd! you can also write to them if you work at a record store and you'd like to hang up a poster in your store or college radio station - they would love for the posters to be actually used by people who want them! we also are in the process of completing 2 interviews - one for Dream Magazine and one for an online webzine called millefeuille (www.millefeuille.fr), so please look for those to be coming out in the next few months. also, our friends mike and marie are finally getting married this weekend, so the 45 we recorded for their wedding present will finally be officially released in the next few weeks. it has us on one side with a very beautiful love song, and lisa marr of cub on the other doing a pure pop song all about the wedding. oh, and one more thing....sorry this is SO long....whfr.fm is a college radio station here in dearborn that has supported us for many years, and we have given them a track for the Mitten State compilation. if you go to www.whfr.fm you can find info about the comp and how to order it. it's a piece we recorded with our friend andrew coltrane back sometime last summer (2004). it has 3 cds worth of detroit area drone/noise, and a dvd too! very cool stuff.....includes wolf eyes and mammal and lots more...

take care! i'll try to post another update soon!

from the kranky website
Cover Image The Dream House is the first album of new material from Windy & Carl in five years. Recorded at their home studio in Dearborn, MI it consists of two tracks. The Dream House is in many ways the duo's simplest and most straight-forward release, concentrated as it is on two evolving pieces. It is also Windy & Carl's most ambitious recording, with the duo deliberating on longer forms. Windy & Carl are capable of sustaining melodic ideas and patiently apply attention to singular musical gestures. Windy Weber describes the album as being about "death and dreams and beliefs and leaving and moving on." The second disc, Dedications to Flea, are gentle tributes to a departed canine friend. The double CD EP package will be out on Kranky in November.
