Blue Moon (3:50)Ah .. another one for the guilty pleasure pile! I'm not much of an Alec Empire fan (or Elvis, for that matter) but I *had* to hear this one. The very thought of Mr. Hardcore disgracing the King ... and it's just as funny as I thought it would be. Empire does his usual hardcore drum 'n bass attack but peppers it with mangled samples from Presley classics such as "Jailhouse Rock", "Hound Dog", "Maybeline" and "Blue Moon", as well as movie lines and commercial promos. "Jailhouse Cock.." and "You Ain't.." are the best of the lot, completely obliterating the respective Elvis tunes with a barrage of drum fills, noise and vocal distortion. "Take Away" and "Blue Moon" are much more subdued with light beats and a more ambient feel. In "Last Message.." a female voice declares that Elvis is alive, among other ramblings, over synth twinkles. "Fuck the Majors" is a short, amusing sample of a couple's conversation on starting their own record label. Pretty funny stuff ... I can't wait to play this for the parents! The LP is black vinyl with Empire's head on one side and Elvis' on the other and comes in a fairly generic b/w sleeve. Something tells me the Presley Estate doesn't know about this one ...
