? (:07)Die Warzau was Van Christie and Jim Marcus with Jason McNinch, Matt Warren, Mars Williams, Levi Levi, Jason More, Jeri, Levi Wilcox, Algis Kyzys, Vinni Signorelli, Martin Atkins, Louis Svitek, Chris Randall, Nanette Cichon, and Danny Best Marcus.
Overall impression: excellent! "Engine" was, unfortunately, the last album from Die Warzau before their untimely breakup. The incredibly talented multi-instrumentalists Van Christie and Jim Marcus recruited a bevy of equally talented musicians to add to the Die Warzau sound: bass, guitars, horns, steel drum, percussion, drums, programming, vibe, oscillator and backing vocals. "Engine" is a dense mix of industrial, pop, jazz, dance and funk hooks all skillfully woven together by excellent programming and songwriting. Big slabs of noise, bass and rhythm are meshed together with Mars Williams' hornwork (see also Ministry "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste") and Marcus' soulful vocals. Some songs, like "Missingit" are noisier and more "industrial" whereas "Cyberdelia.." and "Heroina.d." are more funky and "All Good Girls" are more pop ... but all of them have an underlying groove that puts Sister Machine Gun to shame. Nobody's done "industrial-funk" better before or since imo. One hell of an album, quite possibly one of the most overlooked albums of the past decade. There was also 2 promo singles available for "Liberated" and "All Good Girls" with extra remixes ... but they're quite difficult to find.
