"Genuine American Monster" is the very latest album from Pig, aka Brit Raymond Watts, a former KMFDM and Foetus member/collaborator. This album follows in the same footsteps of the previous two albums "Wrecked" and "Sinsation", but adds a little more variety and perhaps a little less guitar. Musically and lyrically much is the same: a mix of heavy guitars and electronics with Raymond's usual puns and plays on words, and a new love of alliteration. "Prayer..", "Flesh Fest" and "D.D.D" are more or less your run of the mill, hard hitting Pig tunes (the latter 2 being the most dull of the lot, and the primary focus of the disappointing "Disrupt Degrade & Devastate" EP). Notes on various other songs: "Riot.." features a really interesting computerized vocoder vocal effect on the verses. "Salambo" is fantastic ... mambo/latino rhythms and horns aplenty! "Whore" is mostly slower paced and the lyrics are cleverly made up of past Pig song and album titles. "Black Brothel" is a brief piano and synth atmosphere instrumental. "F.O.M." and "A Féte.." remind me of "Nihil"-era KMFDM, especially the humorous female co-sung choruses. "Cry Baby" features Anna Wildsmith (aka SOW) on Japanese spoken vocals. "Inside" is a beautiful and sprawling soundtrack-like instrumental comprised of sweeping synth pads and bits of piano, samples and rhythm. Watts *really* needs to do more work like this and "Black Brothel", he's a natural at it. All in all, another fine Pig album worth the import price. The only disappointing tracks are "D.D.D." and "Flesh Fest", but even those are tolerable. The design work is first class with a blue toned insert and another insert with the lyrics in English and Japanese. Don't hold your breath waiting for TVT or someone else to release this in the States. The cd is $25 direct from Yoshi at Blue Noise Ltd. in Japan. He has a very fast and reliable mail service and my order came with a few free Pig ads and stickers too ...
