Version (6:13)Overall impression: excellent. "Showcase" collects all of the songs from the five Burial Mix 10" singles from 1996-1997. Although there are 10 tracks total, there's really just 5 because each vocal track is accompanied by a non-vocal "version". Repetitive, deep, throbbing dub bass lines are the predominant driving force behind this music, accentuated by Tikiman's melodic vocals and minimal percussion and effects. The mix of the trance inducing, lo-fi Chain Reaction techno + house + dub sound with the "traditional" Jamaican reggae/dub sound and lyricism is very intriguing, and sounds unnaturally natural. Like the Chain Reaction label's tins, "Showcase" is uniquely packaged (a bit more conventional and user friendly though) in what looks like some sort of recycled pressboard digipack. "Showcase" makes a great alternate companion to other Chain Reaction releases, such as Monolake's "Hong Kong" and the various artists compilation "Metal Box" ...
