Syndir Guðs (5:47)Fat Cat have finally seen fit to re-release one of two singles from the lovely album "Ágætis byrjun". Hopefully they will eventually do the same for past albums "Von brigði/Recycle Bin" and "Von". This disc pairs two album tracks (slightly edited, I think) with two live songs (from The Icelandic Opera House June 12, 1999) and also comes sheathed in a similarly themed navy blue slipcase. "Svefn-g-englar" and "Viðrar vel til loftárása" are two of my favorites from the album, the former focused more upon guitar wash and vocals and the latter piano and strings. "Nýja lagið" resembles the sound and moodiness of "Svenfn-g-englar" only sleepier, save for the down turned guitar dirge choruses. The band and Birgisson's vocalizing equal the skill and emotion of their studio crafted songs. "Syndir Guðs" is nice but a bit bland in comparison to the preceding mini epics. It's content to never really stray from its higher pitched vocals, single restrained guitar/bass pattern and subdued percussion. This single is perfect for when you you want a small dosage of Sigur Rós' methadone and essential for "Nýja lagið" alone ...
