Overall impression: good. Brainwashed is the not for-profit online home for information on 28 bands (including Coil, Meat Beat Manifesto, the Legendary Pink Dots) and various other links and resources. And now, it's a recording label as well ... this clear vinyl 7" (limited to 1027 copies) is the first from the newly founded Brainwashed Recordings. The two tracks are re-interpretations of 2 Coil songs: Obsidian Monarch is derived from "Dark River" (from "Love's Secret Domain") and "Null Tributary" is derived from "Glowworm/Waveform" (from "Summer Solstice: Bee Stings"). Thread borrows sounds from the Coil tracks and combines them with his own layers of keyboard melodies and beats. But, thankfully, the sounds are used to create something new, interesting and valid imo ... it's more Thread than Coil in the end. I'm especially fond of the eerie groove of "Obsidian Monarch". Mp3 and realaudio clips are available at Brainwashed. The 7" comes with picture sleeve (artwork by Benjamin Palmer of 99th Mind), a beautiful postcard (artwork by Daniel McKernan) and small "Brainwashed" sticker.
