have a sad day
Harvey Ball, inventor of that little yellow smiley face died this past
Wednesday after a short illness. The Worcester, Massachusetts man
invented the face for the internal use by an insurance agency in
Massachusetts back in 1963 for a mere $45. Unfortunately he never
registered a trademark on the design, popularized in the late 1960s and
early 1970s by gracing millions upon millions of buttons. He will be
missed but his legacy lives on. :-(
