BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Bravery, Repetition And Noise LP
Restocked; black vinyl. LP version. Originally released in 2001. Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a dark, dreamy album, rich in atmosphere, layered in waves of sound. The album's antecedents are clear, inspired by psychedelia as they were by punk's nihilism, pulling both strands into a doom-laden, experimental sound quite distinct from anything that had come before or since. Brian Jonestown Massacre uses this as their touchstone, lovingly re-creating the moods and atmospheres of the past.

HEY COLOSSUS Carcass/Medal 7"
A new double single by Hey Colossus for Alter. "Carcass" is taken from their latest Four Bibles album (ALT 047CD/LP) and leaves a poppier impression, albeit Hey Colossus style, with dual vocals and searing guitars. "Medal" is a near three-minute blast of their signature dirge with a hook as big as the sound itself. Two tracks, the two sides of Hey Colossus -- half melodic downer pop and the other a destruction tune with no respite. Edition of 300.

ADIEL Musicofilia EP 12"
The second release on Ara comes from Adiel. The repetitive motives are the core of Musicofilia EP, pushing further Adiel's research of hypnotic patterns and raw textures. "Musicofilia" conveys Adiel's exploration of dissonances colliding with abrasive beats and soothing melodies. "The Call" starkly highlights the wistful tone of the record, when "Vanishing" offers a dense soundscape underlined by an irregular rhythmic structure, leading to the title track, unfolding as an overdriven club jam. "Rednight", with its throbbing pulse, gracefully concludes this EP by channeling its melancholic, yet sharp spirit.

WILSON, DEREK HUNTER Steel, Wood, & Air LP
Portland composer and pianist Derek Hunter Wilson returns with his second album, entitled Steel, Wood, & Air. Ten lush, expressive pieces featuring piano, bass clarinet, and strings, this collection reflects the efforts of a young musician challenging himself and discovering his voice in the process. Inspired equally by the contemporary neoclassical scene and early recordings on the ECM label, Steel, Wood, & Air stands, timeless and buoyant, on its own. After releasing his debut album, Travelogue (BNSD 016LP, 2017), Wilson set about re-examining what it means to be a composer. This reappraisal revealed a path toward self-discovery that in turn led to the gradual unfolding of Steel, Wood, & Air, a surprisingly rich endeavor given its strict palette, elemental mindset, and determination to avoid overdubs. Wilson was also invited to contribute a track to Thesis (Loscil, Julianna Barwick, Dustin O'Halloran), the label curated by artist Gregory Euclide. His response, the 10-minute "A New Way of Thinking (In Three Stages)", hinted at things to come and was paired with fellow Beacon Sound alumni Rauelsson for a limited edition split 10" release in late 2018. Early on in the process of writing the album, Wilson stumbled across the lectures of David Lang, about which he writes: "Listening to him talk about composing and seeing his enthusiasm for being a composer, and the field in general, made me feel like I had permission to feel that way too. It made me more conscious about what could be possible in contemporary classical music. Listening to him impressed upon me the importance of honesty in creating music. It creates a need as the creator to examine what is essential to them, and that in one sense is what music is or can be -- it's a tool to use to figure out who you are as a person. And honesty is key to this. It's a journey that I'm just at the beginning stages of." From the attention-arresting opening track "Different Opinions" to the unabashedly gorgeous "Knife Fight", and through to the meditative resolution of "Steel, Wood, & Air #7", this is an album with open arms bringing gifts for those who listen carefully. Cover photo by Brett Kallusky. Design by FISK Projects. Recorded at Type Foundry and The Map Room in Portland. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at Black Knoll. Includes two-sided insert and download code; edition of 300. "An evocative cycle that promises to be one of the season's highlights." --A Closer Listen

"Berzerk" pushes with a slow-burning, deep and dubby tech sliced open by red hot hats. "Noblask" instantly energizes with a bass heavy acid jam, sitting on a simple motif and crunching away into the dance. "Nenavist" proffers a floral counterpoint to the earlier acid, bejeweled back drops host a perfectly wonked 303 line. "Nikogda" rolls re-pitched kalimba/xylo styles into a ball and jacks it against the wall, hard.

The EP begins with an apocalyptic, dubbed-out violent rework by the man himself. Julien Caraz eschews his usual frenetic tempos for a solid 130BPM, a sleek techno destroyer as Monster X. Derek Szeto provides a hard electro assault for the Stormfield remix. Fausten, the twisted collaboration between Monster X and Stormfield, deliver a powerful remix.

MELVINS, THE Eggnog / Lice All 2LP
2019 repress. "This double-LP package combines two of the earliest releases from the often imitated but never duplicated Melvins. Formed in the early-'80s in the scenic wonderland known as Aberdeen, WA, the band took inspiration from Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Venom, Flipper, Stooges and other floggers of high-energy, low-velocity plod. Today, more than 30 years later, they might be more popular than ever. Slow and steady wins the race. Disc one is Eggnog, from 1991. Originally released as a 10-inch, Eggnog is a wild ride into the outer limits of Melvins-dom. The first side cuts loose with three quick blasts. 'Wispy' has the Lorax (Lori Temple Black) on bass and Dale Crover on drums, pounding one note in unison while Buzz Osborne bellows and whispers and turns his guitar on and off. 'Antitoxidote' is a rabid horse galloping off into the desert, with yet more stops and starts and feedback detonations. 'Hog Leg' sounds like a syphillitic Jimmy Swaggert trying to mimic Dio while being backed by a drunken ZZ Top cover band. Side Two features the side-long epic 'Charmicarmicat,' with seasick waves of guitar and slow-motion madness bringing communicable disease and poisonous jellyfish ashore, stinging and infecting the unsuspecting sunbathers before gently washing out to sea again. Disc two is Lice-All, from 1992, previously known as self-titled, and also previously known as something else we're all not gonna talk about, thank you very much. This was their last release before signing their Atlantic deal, and features the introduction of new bass player Joe Preston (previously of Earth, currently of Thrones). It's one long, slow, loud blob of drones, moans and fuzztones. The opening endless power chord shimmer influenced Sleep, Sunn O))), and countless other sludge metal drone freaks for years to come. The LPs have been remastered and are back in print on vinyl for the first time in 15 years. The new gatefold packaging includes never-before-seen vintage photos, as well as the original artwork and insert, all tidied up and ready to meet Mom and Dad. Free download is included."

CANNELL & POLLY WRIGHT, LAURA Sing as the Crow Flies CD
Debut vocal album by composer/performers Laura Cannell and Polly Wright. Re-voicing the voices of the lost, forgotten, and hidden people who have lived, worked and loved through the centuries, through the seasons, through the air and in the Marshlands. Sing as the Crow Flies is a set of nine vocal tracks re-voicing the rural landscape, surrounding reed beds and marshes on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Growing up on either side of the River Yare, with a common love of the area, Laura Cannell and Polly Wright are musicians, composers, and creators with deep roots in the marshes and traditions of this rural area. Frustrated by the lack of women's voices represented in the rural landscape writings of East Anglia and further afield, the duo decided to add their own voices and experiences of living and working in rural surroundings in the 21st century to the male dominated discourse of rural life in the past. The music is created through different means -- heterophonic improvisation, Hildegard von Bingen-inspired call-and-responses, and taking words from the 18th century tome Norfolk Garland, A Collection of the Superstitious Beliefs and Practices, Proverbs, Curious Customs, Ballads and Songs, of the People of Norfolk. Together with their own writings and wordless inventions, Sing as the Crow Flies was created as a site-specific sound installation for the 2019 Waveney Valley Sculpture Trail on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, UK. The installation sits around the trunk of a 30-year-old walnut tree in a cherry orchard where five telephone handsets hang from the tree ready to be picked up by passers-by..."There are voices at the end of this line. They are inside Raveningham Church just over 1000 metres as the crow flies from where you stand. Inside the stone walls of the 11th century church two women are moving, singing, separately and together. Every harmonic conversation is improvised, they are moving between the stone and wood, in light and shadow, calling and responding in and out of focus. Footsteps, birds and air can be heard. These new voices are part of the rural landscape, they are using their surroundings as inspiration along with their personal musical traditions & folklore. They are finding a common tongue, their native tongue of the marshlands, two people living, working and creating here in the 21st century. Tapping into vein-like branches, links and marshes. Private voices are woken, then laid again to rest."

BIG JOANIE Sistahs CD
Big Joanie are Stephanie Phillips (singer/guitarist), Estella Adeyeri (bass) and Chardine Taylor-Stone (drums). The band formed in 2013 and released their first EP, Sistah Punk in 2014 and the single Crooked Room in 2016. As part of London's thriving DIY punk scene Big Joanie have played with locals Shopping, toured with US punks Downtown Boys, and Dutch punk band The Ex. Inspired by The Ronettes, Nirvana, Breeders, and Jesus and Mary Chain, Big Joanie have described themselves as being "similar to The Ronettes filtered through '80s DIY and Riot Grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis." Big Joanie recorded Sistahs at Hermitage Works Studio with producer Margo Broom. The album title derives from the band's belief in sisterhood and female friendship. One of the main reasons for coming together was to create an atmosphere to be "completely ourselves as black women and discover what was possible to realize in those spaces." The album cover features Steph's mum Joan, whom the band is named after, and her aunt on holiday in Wales. Outside of the band all three members are involved in communitarian activities whether running the Decolonise Fest, volunteering at Girls Rock Camp, or leading the Stop Rainbow Racism campaign. The Daydream Library Series is the independent house label of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Eva Prinz.

I FEEL LIKE A BOMBED CATHEDRAL I Feel Like A Bombed Cathedral CD
I Feel Like A Bombed Cathedral is the ambitious new project from Amaury Cambuzat --guitarist with the legendary Faust and founder of French avant-garde experimentalists Ulan Bator. Just two pieces spread over 50-odd minutes, this CD reaches levels of drone-like intensity barely heard since the days of Theatre of Eternal Music. Beautiful collage art by Cambuzat. Packaged in a gloss laminated digipack; Edition of 500. Essential.Nick Soulsby writes: "You need to tell the world how you feel and all you think is -- The electric guitar stands as analogue to the cathedral: a blown-out shell echoing with imposing history, lineage, collapse and eternal potential. Amaury has conjured a haunted space inviting us to roam firm structures torn to chaotic edges; glimpsed hardness grown over organic and lush. The sounds whisked up around us, from the most minimal to the most densely symphonic, remind us we stand in a place dedicated to the profound. Between the instrument and the image stands the man himself. Amaury's approach throughout I Feel Like A Bombed Cathedral speaks to his memories and lived experience -- graduation from the classical conservatory in western Paris, his discovery of the guitar at age fourteen, his lifelong quest to infuse this instrument with fresh life. I Feel Like A Bombed Cathedral is a testament to the past, to desecrated presents, and to the sacred horizon that is the future -- The unchanging future which is always hope of change."

QUARION Shades 2LP
Thirteen years after Quarion released the instant classic Karasu on Drumpoet Community (2006), he returns to the label with yet another remarkable debut. His first album Shades takes you on an emotional journey to the deeper realms of house music encompassed by elements of Detroit techno, dub, and electronica. All of the nine tracks fully display Quarion's unmistakable musicality and state-of-the-art production skills and are, undoubtedly, the artist's most accomplished work to date. Ever since starting to produce as Quarion back in 2006, Yanneck Salvo has enjoyed an exciting career with stellar releases on Retreat, Innervisions, Tamed Musiq and certainly Drumpoet Community. 2016 proved to be a turning point artistically as well as personally, which eventually triggered an outburst of inspiration consolidating in the core of Shades. After two years spent on refining this music, Yanneck felt that the bond between the tracks was too strong to be split across various EPs and chose instead to elaborate his vision as a full-scale album. The nine pieces that make up Shades are quintessential Quarion, yet their scope is both broader and more precise than on previous releases by the Swiss producer. The beautiful melancholy of "Indigo (Aries)", the rich layers of "Periwinkle" or the panoramic journey of "Cobalt (Plains)" are testimonial to the new depth in the music of the Berlin-based artist. In addition, the album has highly benefitted from a more experimental writing process, showcased in the bass-heavy ambient piece "Teal" or the sliding pads of "Ultramarine". This passion for unrestrictive creativity is clearly at the heart of "Azure (Émotion)", a thrilling collaboration with Ripperton where both artists twist life out of a modular system. Finally there are tracks as intense as the Acid workout "Sapphire (Tessellate)" and the techno-influenced "Cerulean". Their electric tension easily creates a watershed moment on the dance floor that lingers long after the night is gone. An imperceptible thread lays within the album's tracks; it molds Shades into an outstanding album by an artist on top of his game, highlighting Quarion's ever-growing talent for producing music of the deeper kind.

CAUSA SUI Return To Sky LP
2019 repress. Causa Sui are back with Return To Sky, the successor to 2013's Euporie Tide (EPR 013CD), which consolidated the band as a crucial underground force in the European psych scene and spread their unique brand of warm-toned stoner rock to a wider audience. Return To Sky is a condensed piece of acutely experimental yet immensely engaging instrumental rock. Each of the album's five epics unfolds as a microcosm of the band's genre-transcending psychedelia at large, yet adds something different to the whole. There's a kind of musical metamorphosis taking place that's deeply ingrained in the band's natural flux by now; heavy, detuned riffs are transformed into wide, pastoral soundscapes, and fluid minimalism warped into swirling crescendos and back again. Occasionally the band even manages to sound turbulent -- fuzzed-out yet strangely peaceful at the very same time. While so much of today's psychedelic scene comes off as merely a tribute to a certain period of the past, Causa Sui seem to be on a different mission. More than any other album in their catalog Return To Sky declares their roots in the avant-rock of the late 1990s, when different eras and genres merged into something that resonated as with the present as much as it celebrated the past. It also reveals the fact that members of the band have had their hands in many different projects since the band's debut album in 2005, including solo excursions into synthesizer music, collaborations with members of Sunburned Hand of the Man and Tortoise, film soundtracks, guest spots with krautrock legends Faust and Damo Suzuki, and various improv sessions. It has all worked a subtle influence on the kind of band they have become. Causa Sui's music is now more earthy and heavy than ever before, but its ability to absorb everything from shoegaze and vintage Italian film music to spiritual jazz, Afrobeat, and minimalism into its fabric has matured as well. Never before has Causa Sui sounded as deep and mesmerizing as on this set. Jonas Munk: guitars and electronics; Jess Kahr: bass; Jakob Skøtt, drums and percussion; Rasmus Rasmussen: keys and electronics.

MONARCH Beyond The Blue Sky CD
In recent years, Southern California has proved to be fertile ground for heavy psych, prog, and free rock. The amount of excellent bands growing out of the San Diego soil is simply unparalleled. Among the youngest generation of these bands are the five-piece Monarch, a band rooted in psychedelia and experimental prog, with a view towards broader horizons. There's something refreshing about Monarch's take on psychedelic rock: they aren't afraid to weave Allman Brothers-esque dual guitar lines with synthesizers and saxophone. They can be heavy, but there's an unmistakable panoramic quality to their compositions too, reflecting the rich and diverse environment they've grown up in, with dazzling pacific coastlines, mountains and desert highways. Compared to their debut album, Two Isles from 2016 (EPR 035CD/LP), Beyond The Blue Sky is a more complex record. The three-year journey has led the band through several separate recording sessions and ended up going all-analogue at Audio Design studios. It's an album that's meticulously crafted and with sights set on new musical territory. Their songwriting has matured and each track feels like a mini-epic, traveling unexpected routes before reaching their sonic destination. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the album's centerpiece, the three-part "Beyond The Blue Sky/Phenomena/Counterpart", where Monarch manages to fuse all their influences into one mammoth composition. It's an album to drive off into a careless summer sunset and beyond.

MUNK & NICKLAS SORENSEN, JONAS Always Already Here LP
LP version. Jonas Munk and Nicklas Sørensen team up for a genre-defying record that explores American minimalism, psychedelia, and electronic music -- both vintage and contemporary. On a foundation of interlocking guitar and synthesizer patterns, the duo constructs lengthy pieces that are experimental yet welcoming in nature, precisely executed yet with room for soaring improvisation. Always Already Here pays homage to the masters of classical minimalism (Steve Reich, Terry Riley) and the pioneers of electronic music and kosmische (Brian Eno, Manuel Göttsching), still it doesn't sound derivative or retrospective. The type of hypnotic bliss Munk and Sørensen strive for is distinctly timeless. Always Already Here came to life during a handful of intense sessions in Munk's studio in Odense, Denmark. However, from a larger perspective the record seems to be a culmination of several years of collaborating. From 2010-2014, Munk recorded and produced three full-length albums for Sørensen's band Papir, and in the period 2015-2017 the two collaborated on Sørensen's two solo efforts Solo and "Solo 2". During the same period they have occasionally performed live as a duo, playing semi-improvised shows based around guitars and synthesizers. These live shows have assuredly influenced their collaborative work with an explorative, animated quality ? which is especially apparent on the album's free flowing, zen-orientated B-side. Always Already Here ties together several musical threads: academic pattern-music, psychedelia, avant-garde sound exploration as well as a highly melodic sensibility. It's a multi-layered, colorful album that demands full sonic immersion.

DOPE FEAT. FUCK AUTHORITY 666 / 1381 10"
Treat yourself to this wonderful (and highly-limited) 10" single from Julian Cope's Dope feat. Fuck Authority. Awaiting listeners on the other side of this epic release is Dope's most overtly psychedelic offering thus far. Off-kilter and raging, this non-LP B-side is entitled "1381", after the year of Wat Tyler's Peasant's Revolt. Unbalanced? U-Betcha! AIRCRAFT Sideways/Backwards LP
"Aircraft was the name Steve Cohen used for the largely unknown and quite fantastic synthesizer music he was creating in NYC in the '80s. This was in the same period Steve was in the late-period No Wave band, China Shop, along with guitarist Naux (who would go on to play with the Voidoids) and percussionist Richard Edson (whose next band was Sonic Youth). Steve had been active in the NYC sub-underground since the '70s, even playing at Giorgio Gomelsky's legendary 'Zu Music Festival' in 1978. Steve pops up playing bass on various odd sessions with various odd musicians like the late painter-turned-punker-turned-funkateer Snuky Tate, among others. But very few had heard the music Steve recorded as Aircraft apart from the handful of friends to whom he passed cassettes back in the day. We found out about Aircraft through Christopher Livengood of Video Nasties. Chris befriended Steve a few years ago and was blown away by the Aircraft tapes he heard. Steve eventually opened up his archives to Chris allowing him to assemble Sideways/Backwards -- an amazingly great LP's worth of synth/guitar/drumbox gabble that was darn near lost in the fogs of time. The album includes notes about where and how each track was put together, and the music will be a blast for anyone who digs the '80s output of the Residents or German groups like Der Plan. Very cool!" --Byron Coley, 2019 Edition of 250.

During The Flying Luttenbachers' prolific initial 1991 to 2007 sprint, the ever-morphing ensemble explored and challenged the parameters of aggression, dissonance, freedom, hyper-structure, and speed across many idioms ranging from hyperactive free jazz/improvisation, blistering no wave/extreme metal noise infused rock, and ambitiously composed brutal prog. Shattered Dimension was recorded one afternoon in November 2018 at Seizures Palace (better known as Martin Bisi's legendary B.C. Studios to some) with engineer Jason LaFarge. The album opens with a succinct bang in the form of the chaotic blast beat-plus-melody structural form "Goosesteppin'". After the unison melodic statement, the foursome rampages full-speed ahead through the changes, evoking the whiskey-and-cocaine drenched early era mayhem of improv supergroup Last Exit. Four frantic minutes later, the Luttenbachers rein things back a bit, with the extended harmolodic group improvisation of "Cripple Walk". The third composition on the record is the stately, ominous "Epitaph", 13 unlucky minutes of monolithic repetition, overlaid with frantic, destructive free playing in an episodic narrative. "Sleaze Factor" offers a bit of relief in the form of a prominent groove, another harmolodic venture, again influenced overtly by the jazz output of Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, Columbia Records' era Arthur Blythe, and the early James Blood Ulmer records. The final cut on this album is the 23-minute long form called "Mutation". It is a succession of abstract blocks highlighting specific sonic activity, organized as a surreal journey through immorally uplifting atonality and repetition. Gatefold sleeve.

RAINBOW GRAVE No You CD
Featuring Nicholas Bullen (founder member of Napalm Death and Scorn) and John Pickering (founder member of Doom and Sore Throat), Birmingham-based Rainbow Grave channel the blank despair of negative punk through layers of distorted psychedelic damage: dirty guitars, freeform pedal abuse, and effected vocals coagulate around cyclic bass and drum rhythms in repetitive and minimal structures. After a performance at Fat Out Fest in Salford in April 2017, God Unknown Records approached the group to record a split 7" single (GODUNK 043EP). Released in July 2018 as part of volume three of the God Unknown Singles Series, Rainbow Grave's Death Pyramid is a crawling mantric blend of heavy bass, psychedelic guitars, robotic vocals, and hard drums described as "deeply hewn heaviness" (Shindig) and "congruent with the great scum rock purveyors of the late '80s" (The Wire). Following the reception of the single, God Unknown invited Rainbow Grave to continue the relationship with the release of the "Sex Threat/You Are Nowhere" 7" single in November 2018. This was given Single of the Week by John Doran at The Quietus.

JULIAN'S TREATMENT A Time Before This 2LP
2019 repress. Debut double album by musician/sci-fi writer Julian Jay Savarin. Originally released on Miki Dallon's Youngblood label in 1970, this has been a classic since the early days of record-collecting. Hammond-dominated, spacey, psychedelic prog-rock with long tracks, cool female vocals and a cosmic, sci-fi concept/vibe. This reissue features the original gatefold sleeve, master tape sound on 180 gram vinyl, and detailed liner notes by Andy Morten (Shindig! Magazine). Essential to anyone into early UK prog-rock.

Another stunning prog-rock masterpiece (based on the Savarin-authored sci-fi novel of the same name), still Hammond and keyboard/Mellotron-dominated but with a more hard-rock approach, featuring plenty of killer guitar riffs, powerful but melodic vocals courtesy of Lady Jo Meek (sister of Catapilla's vocalist Anna Meek) and a solid, groovy rhythm section. VON SPAR Foreigner (10th Anniversary Reissue) LP
Von Spar celebrates the 10th anniversary of their groundbreaking 2009 album, Foreigner, with a reissue edition of the long-time out-of-print LP. Von Spar consist of Sebastian Blume, Jan Philipp Janzen, Philip Tielsch, and Christopher Marquez. On Foreigner, Von Spar has once again put themselves to the task of juxtaposing seemingly disparate musical spheres. The spectrum ranges from electrified pop and krautrock elements to fusion experiments to clubby electro tracks. Based in Cologne and Berlin, the four musicians celebrate an elaborately constructed disorder. Like their previous releases, it defies categorization. The quartet left the planet entirely for the duration of the album production in Cologne in late 2009, smoldering with a psychedelic heat before combusting into light-flooded cosmic haze -- full of warm bass and rolling rhythms. All around, cosmic melodies shimmer clearly, aimed straight into the future. And even when the percussive patterns spread earthy rhythms, there is still a synthetic sound buzzing around somewhere, telling of the vastness of the universe. The multi-layered vocal-parts which appear in well-dosed intervals work as anchors on this colored trip: The single "trOOps" combines almost R&B-ish vocals with a kraut-y disco groove. This contrasts with the calmness of the nautically inspired album opener "Scotch & Chablis" or cosmic space-mantra odes like "Lambda". Foreigner is a science-fiction album chock full of trippy pop, which tumbles through unexplored terrain without forgetting to look in the rearview mirror and allowing the listeners enough room to use their own imagination.

OZKENT, MUSTAFA Genclik Ile Elele LP
2019 repress, black vinyl. "Originally released in Turkey 1973, Özkent's masterpiece (creation) of an all instrumental Turkish Psychedelic Funk album, filled with classic beats and breaks still inspires long time fans and first time listeners. The funky rhythms, hypnotic percussions, and heavy break beats makes this a holy grail amongst DJ's and music fans alike. Only a handful of copies from the original pressing are known to still exist making this reissue a welcome addition to any record collection. The concept is very complicated, futuristic and free from categorization. Traditional folk songs mixed with rock, jazz, blues, funk and psych. Özkent took traditional turkish folk songs and reconstructed them for the new 'hip' generation. It was recorded live in just one day with some of the best studio musicians in Turkey. The band was made up of 2 drummers, 2 guitarists, 2 percussionists, a bassist and a Hammond B3 organist. Özkent created his own unique guitar sound by adding extra frets and a clutch of effect pedals in order to create quarter notes and emulate turkish traditional scales. Mustafa Özkent has since made arrangements for hundreds of other artists in Turkey. But this unique album documents his most revered work. In the more than 40 years since the Mustafa Özkent Ve Orkestras? recorded Gençlik ?le Elele, it seems that the world is still just discovering this gem."

LOSCIL Equivalents CD
"Canadian composer Scott Morgan's 12th long-player as loscil takes its title from an influential series of early 20th century photographs by Alfred Stieglitz, abstracting clouds into miasmic, painterly canvases of smoke and shadowplay. It's a deeply fitting analog for Morgan's own musical process across the past two decades, fraying forms and tones into widescreen mirages of opaque texture and negative space. The name Equivalents referred to Stieglitz's notion of the photographs as being equivalent to his 'philosophical or emotional states of mind;' the same could be said of these eight weighty, shivering chiaroscuros of sound. Each piece unfolds and evolves enigmatically, adrift in low oxygen atmospheres, shifting dramatically from pockets of density to dissipated streaks of moonlit vapor. The entirety of the record was created specifically for the album with the exception of 'Equivalent 7,' which began as a dance score for frequent collaborator Vanessa Goodman. The album version of this track was reworked with Vancouver musician Amir Abbey aka Secret Pyramid. Cloud photographs taken by Scott Morgan at various locations throughout Cascadia in 2018."

SEANIE T Ruff, Rugged and Smooth CD
Seanie T is a true veteran of the UK music scene with a jaw dropping discography featuring some of the most important releases in the history of UK hip-hop. Produced in full by Hamburg-based DJ Suro, Ruff, Rugged and Smooth touches on elements of roots reggae, dancehall, bashment, soul, and pop, all with that unmistakable hip-hop swagger. As the title suggests, there's moments of rough reality, elements of rugged rawness and enough smooth reflection to keep everyone entertained. Kicking off with "Get Hustling", a familiar vocal sample sets up Seanie to set out his manifesto perfectly. Lead single "Warning" is a tag-team takedown with his old sparring partner Roots Manuva, with the duo trading devastating bars, whilst "The Bird" ups the tempo for a party time banger, compete with dance moves. "More To This" is a statement on the current state of image hungry MCs, with "Mad Dem" providing more party vibes and some deft turntable skills from Suro. "Plush" shows a softer side to proceedings with a tribute to the fine female form, whilst "Blaze Fire Bun' finds Seanie teaming up with UK don Serocee for another call to arms on a Timbaland sounding beat. Pitching for the Guinness World Record of number of UK MCs on a track, "Veterans" lines up a hot verse from 19(!) vocalists such as Rodney P, Ty, Ragga Twins, Navigator, and Hill St Soul, amongst many other legends (count them!) -- never before has this many UK artists collaborated on one track. Following this up is "UK Warriors" finding Seanie riding solo once again, but hailing up his UK comrades, UK Allstars. Things gradually get smoother as you find Seanie in full gentleman mode on the lush "Dancefloor", before showing his love for "Weed" alongside Jamaican legend Chezidek. As we come to a close, the smooth reggae vibes of "Acceptable" ring out the album in perfect style, featuring the smooth vocals of more JA vocalists Little Hero & PZ. Already sounding like a modern classic -- never retro, but respectful of its roots whilst keeping it fresh and always keeping it Ruff, Rugged and Smooth. Also features Simone Watson.

HERE LIES MAN No Ground To Walk Upon CD
"Here Lies Man took the music world by storm in 2017 with their self-titled debut positing the intriguing hypothesis: What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat? Since that time, they have expanded and expounded upon their sound and ideas of heavy riff rock and psych within the ancient rhythmic formula of the clave. The L.A. based band comprised of Antibalas members have toured relentlessly over the past two years, while also releasing a second album, You Will Know Nothing and an EP, Animal Noises, both in 2018. No Ground To Walk Upon is their third album. It continues with an ongoing concept of playing a soundtrack to an imaginary movie, with each song being a scene. Rough Trade named Here Lies Man in their prestigious Top 10 Albums of 2017. BBC 6 and Classic Rock Magazine deemed it among the year's best, as well as countless other press outlets singing its praises. 2018's You Will Know Nothing furthered the band's reputation for genre-smashing rhythmic experimentation, topping many year-end lists as well as earning features from countless metal and indie rock outlets, plus cover stories in weekly papers. This latest album is the next step in the band's rapid ascent to what is bound to be influential upon riff-based rock. 'We're very conscious of how the rhythms service the riffs,' explains founder and vocalist/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Marcos Garcia (who also plays guitar in Antibalas) of the band's sound. 'Tony Iommi's (Black Sabbath) innovation was to make the riff the organizing principle of a song. We are taking that same approach but employing a different organizing principle: For Iommi it was the blues, for us it comes directly from Africa.'"

With a healthy whiff of the same self-sufficient spirit as the '90s Drag City or Kill Rock Stars rosters, these four tracks are pinned together by sauntering, oddly distorted guitars tweaked with subtle effects and swooping, near-hawkish vocals that run in the same register as pre-White Stuff Neil Hagerty. Like Polvo with pinched nipples. Recorded live at Q Division Studios.

WEDDING PRESENT, THE Tommy 30 CD
George Best became The Wedding Present's first album in 1988. But Tommy, released one year later, was made up of the early songs from the singles and radio sessions that had catapulted them from being bedsit musicians into indie darlings: "Go Out And Get 'Em, Boy!" with its purposefully super-fast guitars, "You Should Always Keep In Touch With Your Friends" an anthem for those long time Wedding Present fans, "My Favourite Dress" the only single in the collection that ended up on George Best, the classic, fraught tale of losing one's first love that perfectly played on the heart strings and began David Gedge's legacy of understanding everyone's heartbreak. Tommy 30, a brand-new re-recording of Tommy, did not come about simply as a "follow on" to George Best 30 (SCOPITONE 074CD, 2017). The band felt, during a Tommy 30th anniversary concert tour, that the songs had grown and evolved. Enter a more confident vocalist... an altogether growlier guitar. A bigger sound. The urgency of a 25-year-old Gedge is replaced with a charming vocalist with years of experience. Everything's warmer and, maybe, gentler... but in a satisfying way. It's like your old friends have come home to see you.

MUNGO'S HI FI X EVA LAZARUS More Fyah CD
Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit, Mungo's Hi Fi, announce More Fyah, a stunning collaboration with UK singer and MC, Eva Lazarus. A genre-melding masterpiece, More Fyah traverses between reggae, dub, dancehall, and other bass flavors. Eva seamlessly tackles every track with her unique lyrical flow and wide vocal range, matched by Mungo's infectious signature sound. From the rocksteady relick of "Dub Be Good To Me", the ragga mash-up title track, the summery riddims of "Light As A Feather", featuring London reggae artist Kiko Bun, to the roots sampling "Babylon Raid", featuring Jamaican reggae legend Max Romeo, Mungo's have a sound that is deeply rooted in dub and reggae's lineage, backed by the sharp, sassy, and slick vocals of Eva Lazarus.Raised out of one of the most musically creative cities in the UK, Mungo's Hi Fi have made a massive contribution to Glasgow's musical story with a respectful nod to Jamaican sound system tradition. Founded in 2000, Mungo's was formed by two like-minded DJs, inspired by the free party scene but following the Jamaican tradition of King Tubby and Jah Shaka. True to reggae/dancehall's DIY ethos, they built their first sound from speakers found in a skip and began producing on an old Atari. They founded the Scotch Bonnet Records label in 2005. Today Mungo's Hi Fi's three DJs, Craig, Doug and Tom play all over the world, assisted by the team at Scotch Bonnet Records: all committed to spreading their philosophy of serious, seismic productions plus easy-going democratic dancehall fun. Highly collaborative, they've worked on remix projects with Leftfield, Coldcut, Submotion Orchestra, Kahn, and Prince Fatty in the UK to Major Lazer in the US and are currently expanding links with East African Records based in Uganda. This is Eva's first full-length album, having recently featured on tracks with Swindle, Zed Bias, Jus Now, and Gentlemans Dub Club. A multi-genre artist, she has been making waves worldwide.

FALCAO, FERNANDO Memoria das Aguas LP
Selva Discos present a reissue sought-after Memória das Águas album by Fernando Falcão. Originally recorded in 1979 in Paris but only released independently in Brazil in 1981, the album comes complete with genre-hopping explorations that swirl around ambient soundscapes, lively jazz, experimental-leanings, Afro-rhythms, and a unique blend of Latin grooves and French pop with a Brazilian accent, but it also comes with a story as deeply unique as the music. To make a long story short, after participating in the political movements against the military regime in 1968 in Brazil, Fernando Falcão left the country and moved to France, where he lived in exile for 15 years. There, after working in music, acting, and sculpting, he involved himself in Jérôme Savary's legendary Grand Magic Circus, where he met his first wife, Valérie Kling. It was from this relationship that a partnership began between the musician and his father-in-law, the artist François-Xavier Lalanne, who guided Falcão in the process of inventing sound sculptures such as the balauê -- a horizontal version of the berimbau string instrument whose sound was influenced by a water stream (since there was a hose soaking parts of the balauê wet during the performances). Much of this exploration and experimentation resulted in the album Memória das Águas. The album still sounds like little else from the time. As audacious and experimental as it is seamlessly listenable, it takes in immersive textures one moment before breaking out into Fela Kuti-esque brass-soaked grooves the next. It's ultimately a record that captures the spirit and rhythm of Falcão's homeland combined with the lush production and art-pop approach associated with his exiled home; It's a polished, well executed and glistening record. It's a fusion of African, Brazilian, jazz, pop, classical and avant-garde collides to create a record that spans as many continents as it does genres. Remastered from the original master tapes, completely and faithfully restored. Includes unprecedented liner notes featuring rare photos of the musician and his sound sculptures plus articles, including one from DJ and selector John Gómez who helped to connect Selva Discos' Augusto Olivani with Diana Lion, Fernando Falcão's daughter (since the musician died in 2002), for this project.

FALCAO, FERNANDO Barracas Barrocas LP
Selva Discos present a reissue of Fernando Falcão's album Barracas Barrocas, originally released through Egberto Gismonti's cult record label Carmo in 1987. Somehow, an original copy of this album is even more elusive than its predecessor Memória das Águas (OMSD 006LP) and it is a pity that such a stunning piece of music was kept apart from listeners worldwide for so long. The follow-up to Memória das Águas was recorded in São Paulo after Fernando Falcão returned from his exile in France in 1984. In order to conceive Barracas Barrocas, the musician had the help of illustrious friends, such as singer-songwriter Alceu Valença and singer Tetê Espíndola, alongside brothers Myriam and Daniel Taubkin. At the time, Falcão was still using the sound sculptures he created for Memória das Águas, as he is credited in the liner notes for playing a "water orchestra" and his berimbau variant called balauê. Barracas Barrocas is an album that works as a more condensed and coherent artistic statement of Falcão's oeuvre. Lush strings, swelling brass, glowing production, and humming atmospheres fill the record, adding a beautiful yet subtly linked counterpoint to his previously explosive debut. It is very cinematic, sounding like the soundtrack of a play that only existed in the musician's mind. For this release, not only the sound was remastered but the artwork of Barracas Barrocas was completely and faithfully restored. Also, the reissue comes with unprecedented liner notes featuring rare photos of the musician and his sound sculptures plus an article that tells the story of Fernando Falcão after returning to Brazil following his exile -- a story that has never been told, until now.

BALINA Kaybetmenin MitolojisI LP
Balina is a duo that carries the elements from various musical parallel universes like prog rock, math rock, psychedelia, stoner rock, and swing jazz with the flavors of modern heavy metal and Turkish roots. Their music contains a blend of raw and dark tunes with the help of dynamic sound brought by the feat of drum and guitar. The duo was founded in late 2011 in ?zmir Turkey as Alican Öyke on guitars and Burçin Esin on drums, who are also the old bandmates from local post hardcore band Soygun. After their first self-released 2013 record, Balina, and the sequent performances which includes an opening up for Mogwai in their 2015 ?stanbul gig, they quickly became one of the accepted modern-heavy faces of Turkey's current sub cultural music scene. After following performances mostly held in ?stanbul they made a reappearance with their second studio work Kaybetmenin Mitolojisi which was released by Ada Müzik in late 2017. This time, their music tells a conceptual psychedelic urban story, stuck between the sea and the rocks. The songs were recorded in Pür Recording Studio Istanbul and Bahçe?ehir University with the presence of Bark?n Engin (Replikas). The cover of the album was created by F?rat ?tmeç, photographed by Burçin Esin, and designed by Can Da?l?. Lara Di Lara features on "Üzgünüm".

RAINCOATS, THE Extended Play 10"
2019 repress. "It seemed for a while in the wake of Pistols/Clash hysteria that post-punk Blighty might just change the face of popular culture. And no small thanks to some females who didn't care to be written off: The Slits, Kleenex and most enduringly, the Raincoats. Their brief career included a few LPs on Rough Trade, but the band fell prey to inner turmoil by the turn of the decade. That was way before their biggest fan, a semi-famous guy named Kurt Cobain began singing their story to every journalist in the land. Soon enough Steve Shelley was behind the drums in a revamped version of the band. With this new lineup, Extended Play came to be, a preface to their triumphant 1994 reunion album on the DGC label. Somehow, the Raincoats' old records have gotten better since they were made. Invited to open for Nirvana on their 1994 tour, the decade-gone Raincoats reformed, with original members Gina Birch (bass/vocals) and Ana da Silva (guitar/vocals) joined by new violinist Anne Wood and guest drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth. Cobain's suicide ended those plans, but the band went on a triumphant American tour anyway. A John Peel session from April 1994 (two new songs, 'No One's Little Girl' from Moving and 'Shouting Out Loud' from Odyshape) was released on Shelley's label as Extended Play. The noisy avant-continental 'Don't Be Mean' (unveiled on the EP) take slipperier turns through the band's past.' --Douglas Wolk/Ira Robbins"

ELECTRIC FUNERAL The Wild Performance 2LP
Double LP version; includes download. Ear-splitting hard-rock/proto-doom-metal from the early '70s, Electric Funeral were a pioneering Swiss hard-rock band who sadly never registered any studio recordings at the time. Formed in the late '60s by Edi Hirt (drums), Pierrot Wermeille (bass), Alain Christinaz (guitar), and Dominique Bourquin (vocals), they were influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin. Famous for their loud (they played behind giant stacks of Marshall amps) and powerful shows, their sound was too heavy-sounding for a regular label to offer them a contract. The Wild Performance is made of private live and rehearsal tapes recorded in 1970 -- very raw and lo-fi -- but it's the only testimony of their brutal sound. First released in 1991 as a limited LP, this is an expanded edition with newly remastered sound and four killer bonus tracks, taken from reels and tapes recently found in the band's archives. These tracks were also recorded in 1970 except for "My Destiny", which dates to 1973. The sound is still lo-fi but slightly better than the original tracks, especially on the killer "You Can Help" (proto-punk á la Electric Eels), "My Destiny" and the alternate version of "You Can Help". RIYL: Black Sabbath, Iron Claw, Edgar Broughton Band, Moses, Sainte Anthony's Fyre. Includes insert with rare photos and liner and notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby).

ART OF THE MEMORY PALACE Dusk at Trellick Tower LP
With Dusk at Trellick Tower, the duo Art Of The Memory Palace accelerate their trajectory since 2015's incendiary debut, This Life Is But A Passing Dream. Upon its release the latter was called "Fresh and euphoric... an incredible debut" by The Quietus and "fantastically addictive" by The Sunday Herald, while Shindig! Magazine called it "a spine-chillingly satisfying journey into kraut-influenced electronica." In the years since, AOTMP have released a split 7" with esteemed Welsh psych label Fruits de Mer Records, a long sold-out spoken-word collaboration with acclaimed Scottish author James Robertson, and a limited-edition cassette-only French Noir soundtrack album on Horror Pop Records. Raz Ullah (synths, tape loops) has become an intrinsic part of Jane Weaver's touring band, while Andrew Mitchell (vocals, synths, guitar, bass, drums) has released two albums under his Andrew Wasylyk moniker. Dusk at Trellick Tower is inspired by Hungarian Brutalist architect Erno Goldfinger -- Ullah and Mitchell channel the darkness and dystopia which grew from much of Erno's work, building synth-heavy sonic edifices evoking lonely night time walks along empty echoing corridors, urban decay and towering, impassive concrete monoliths. Using analog synthesizers, drums, bass, and tape loops processed through long chains of effects pedals, Art Of The Memory Palace strive for greater depths with this release, weaving menacing hooks and icy vocals together with droning chords and ambient soundscapes and creating their own shade of dark, beautiful melodies in the process. DEVO Hardcore 2CD
2019 repress. "Devo's Hardcore documents the group's beginning as pre-punk outcasts in the fertile Akron, Ohio, underground rock scene. Spawned at the nearby college of Kent State, site of the infamous May 4 Massacre, Devo formed as a conceptual art project armed with the radical philosophy of de-evolution. Brothers Mothersbaugh (Mark, Bob and Jim) and Brothers Casale (Jerry and Bob) along with drummer Alan Myers soon whipped up an otherworldly brand of 'devolved blues' that could hold its own alongside the beatnik groove of 15-60-75 (a.k.a. The Numbers Band) or the primal rock poetry of The Bizarros. Recorded on various four-track machines and in tiny studios, basements and garages between 1974 and 1977, Hardcore reveals their strikingly clear vision: rock 'n' roll stripped bare of its collective cool and jerked back into propaganda fit for post-modern man. It's no surprise that these transmissions would soon catch the eye and ear of Brian Eno, who later produced their landmark 1978 debut album. Noisy synth, strangled guitar chops and a primitive rhythmic thud power the early DEVO sound. Threaded beneath it all are lyrical themes of post-McCarthy paranoia, middle-class ephemera and DEVO's long-running topic of choice: sex, or lack thereof."

CONRAD WITH FAUST, TONY Outside The Dream Syndicate LP
2019 repress; LP version. "Violinist, composer and filmmaker Tony Conrad started his career in New York in the early 1960s. As a member of the Theater of Eternal Music (a.k.a. the Dream Syndicate) alongside John Cale, La Monte Young, Marian Zazeela and Angus MacLise, he participated in now-legendary and often legendarily loud drone performances with many pieces having no beginning and no end. During a fateful trip to Germany in 1972, Conrad met with avant-rock visionaries Faust and made the very first record to bear his name. Outside The Dream Syndicate, originally released in Europe only in 1973, is a stunning debut. Two side-long tracks -- 'The Side Of Man And Womankind' and 'The Side Of The Machine' -- show just how far Conrad had moved beyond his minimalist peers. Werner Diermaier's repetitive drum beat and Jean-Hervé Peron's stripped-down bassline conjure a tense, ascetic groove, while Conrad's seamless violin, initially so controlled, reveals a surprising adaptability. The music shifts almost on a subliminal level, pushing and pulling to the drone's internal pulse. It is hard to imagine Conrad's trajectory from downtown Manhattan to a farmhouse in the German countryside that ultimately resulted in Outside The Dream Syndicate, yet no other record captures -- so completely and instantly -- the intersection of avant-garde and rock forms. Outside The Dream Syndicate remains ahead of and bracingly outside of its time. This first-time vinyl reissue and long out-of-print CD release have been carefully been carefully mastered from the original master tapes and include liner notes by musician Jim O'Rourke and author Branden W. Joseph."

FALL, THE Hex Enduction Hour LP
2019 repress. "Hex Enduction Hour was originally conceptualized as the death knell for The Fall. Beleaguered by career uncertainty and guided by vague premonitions of collapse, Mark E. Smith declared that one full hour was needed to thoroughly and perhaps finally state his case with The Fall. This framework resulted in a true classic of the post-punk era and an album that gave The Fall their first taste of album chart success, thankfully removing surrender from the equation. Recorded in haste in both Iceland and England in late 1981, the performances on Hex Enduction Hour are among the band's most urgent and distinctive. The album begins with the severe provocation of 'The Classical' and the terse punk of 'Jawbone And The Air-Rifle,' but it's 'Hip Priest' that stands out as Smith's calling-card theme, a song that would become inextricable from his character (or perception thereof) in the years that followed. The elongated 'And This Day' fittingly positions the band as spell-casters, closing the hour by filling every conceivable bit of space with wild, primitive percussion and whimsical electric piano. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Hex Enduction Hour has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial release in 1982. Liner notes by Brian Turner."

SAKAMOTO & TAYLOR DEUPREE, RYUICHI Live In London 2LP
Trailblazing Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto is joined by revered electronic musician Taylor Deupree on this live recording, documenting their collaboration at St John-at-Hackney Church in 2014, part of ThirtyThree ThirtyThree's flagship concert series St John Sessions. The two musicians develop a kinetic understanding over the recording, entering a sparse musical dialogue -- flourishes of prepared piano give way to bursts of noise and sculpted synths. Totally improvised, the performance follows their collaborations on record -- as a duo on 2013's Disappearance, and in a trio with Illuha on 2014's Perpetual. Ryuichi Sakamoto has had an extraordinary career, from his founding of revolutionary electronic trio Yellow Magic Orchestra, to his remarkable film scores, notably Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) and the soundtrack for Oscar-winning film, The Revenant (2015). Taylor Deupree, meanwhile, spent his career devoted to his label, 12k, and an intricate form of ambient minimalism. Originally released in 2015, ThirtyThree ThirtyThree's inaugural record, the album has been remastered by Deupree. DESPLAT, ALEXANDRE Every Thing Will Be Fine CD
The original score music by Alexandre Desplat for the film Every Thing Will Be Fine by Wim Wenders, originally released in 2015. Together with the Göteborgs Symfoniker (Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra), Alexandre Desplat recorded the score music for Wim Wenders's last feature film in February 2015. It is a unique orchestral work, conveying the emotional journey of the film's protagonists. The perfectly arranged motifs and themes of the recordings gives the listener the opportunity to feel that journey and see images with closed eyes. Even if you had not seen the film, the subtle arrangement of the music and the orchestra's superb performance makes the score's music a unique experience. The 20 instrumental tracks are a true work of contemporary classical film music. Either for classic aficionados or background music, this album has it all -- written, composed, and performed by some of the best artists in their field today. The soundtrack compiles 20 tracks with all themes from the film. The film was premiered at Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) in February 2015.Fascinated by both music and film, French composer Alexandre Desplat decided to pursue a career as a composer of movie scores. Starting with Ki Lo Sa? in 1985, his scores for television and film had reached a total of 100 by 2007. In these works, he developed a contemplative style that did not attempt to respond on a point-by-point basis to the action onscreen, but rather set its own complementary mood. He began to attract attention in the US with The Luzhin Defence in 2000, which had a soundtrack album released in America by Silva Screen Records. His music for Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) earned a Golden Globe nomination, and with that recognition he began to work increasingly on English-language films distributed by the Hollywood studios, including Birth (2004), The Upside of Anger (2005), Hostage (2005), Casanova (2005), Syriana (2005) (also nominated for a Golden Globe), Firewall (2006), and The Painted Veil (2006) (a Golden Globe Award winner), all of which produced soundtrack albums. The Queen (2006) earned him his first Academy Award nomination. As of today, Desplat composed score music to more than 150 films and received an Oscar for the Original Score to The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). The soundtrack of The King's Speech reached #15 of the US Billboard Charts in 2011.

Comprising material from around the same period as the excellent Vibing Up the Senile Man album period, the ideas behind the music were very much informed by Mark's experience of touring with Here & Now. Perhaps serving as a statement on punk, or the many hordes by this time now completely straitjacketed by it, it could be contended it was conceptually far more "punk" anyway. Beyond this, the music here illustrates precisely how Mark led Alternative TV into wide open terrain sometimes far removed from rock music in its more generally accepted forms. As both proof of where music could be taken once unshackled from all notions of predictability and, indeed, just how far it could go into those realms usually reserved for the avant-garde, this was about as non-conformist as music could get at the time. Originally recorded live at the Greenwich Theatre and The Lyceum these sets aimed for the jugular as they confounded, enticed, and ultimately gave the audiences far more than they'd anticipated. Between the music of this period, the earlier more direct attacks and the subsequent sidesteps into clever songwriting or more electronically-driven pieces, Alternative TV have always embraced the idea of going to wherever they intuitively feel like in the given moment. Since this early period, the group has gone through lengthy periods of hibernation and surges of activity that together might not have served them so well in a careerist sense, but at least maintained their roles as artists possessed of integrity. A rare virtue in music.
