L'EPEE Diabolique LP+CD
Repressed. LP version. 180 gram, ruby vinyl. Includes CD. The debut album release from L'Epee, the band of Emmanuelle Seigner (Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle), Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Lionel and Marie Liminana (The Limiñanas). It is very rarely that a musical project lives up to the billing of being a "supergroup". However, the exception to this rule comes in the shape of L'Epee. A stellar combination of the talents of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe, cinematic femme fatale Emmanuelle Seigner and ice-cool pop provocateurs The Limiñanas, L'Epee transcend artistic and traditional borders. Far from being defeated by a world seemingly regressing into turmoil, L'Epee's strength comes from a long history of challenging the status quo -- they all share a fierce intelligence and an outsider aesthetic which, over the decades, has been sharpened to a razor's edge. Fitting, then, that their name translates as "The Sword". This pent-up creative energy has been channeled into their extraordinary debut album, Diabolique. Named in tribute to Mario Bava's 1968 cult classic Danger: Diabolik, it's a musical masterclass where elements of garage, ye-ye, sleaze rock, cult soundtracks, sci-fi, spaghetti westerns, and girl-group pop noir are combined with the cut-and-thrust zeal of a band bursting with ideas and energy. All delivered by Emmanuelle in a sultry Gallic drawl which will send a frisson of recognition through anyone familiar with her iconic roles in, among many others, Frantic (1988), Venus In Fur (2013), and Bitter Moon (1992) (all directed by her husband, Roman Polanski). "I've loved rock music since I was a kid," she says, namechecking Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, and The Stooges as key influences. Having asked close friend Bertrand Belin to provide lyrics for three further tracks ("Grande", "On Dansait Avec Elle", and "Lou"), the trio set to work at The Limiñanas' studio in Cabestany, Southern France, in November 2017. Satisfied with the results, the trio flew to Berlin to hook up with Anton and Andrea Wright at his Cobra Studio in Berlin. Utilizing a treasure trove of vintage equipment, Anton set to work, re-recording the drums with Marie and adding -- and deleting -- tracks so that the shifting layers of sound suited the mood of each individual track.

OLANDER, JEREMY Balance Presents Vivrant 2CD
The Swedish Vivrant label founder, DJ, and producer joins the revered Balance Presents series. Since its inception in 2015, Jeremy Olander's label and event series, Vivrant, has become one of the most intriguing platforms for the melodic house and techno sound. With this long overdue project, Olander is bringing two discs of exclusive music from himself and friends. Includes individual tracks downloads and mixes.Olander on the release: "Balance Presents Vivrant encompasses what the label sounds like in 2019 and beyond . . . 70% of the music is unreleased stuff from me that I've only played in my sets and music that would typically stay unreleased, or completely new stuff I've made specifically for this album . . . I approached the first side as I would the first few hours playing an open to close set at a club. The atmosphere and vibe are stripped down, the drum patterns are different from what I would play at peak time . . . The first three tracks are new originals under a new name I came up with for this compilation specifically. The fourth track is a remix I made of one of my older unreleased tracks called 'Dharma' that never ended up being released. After that is something Vivrant associate Marino Canal sent me, which is a collaboration with a friend of his called Miguel Payda that I felt fit perfectly into the mood. It's followed up by an incredible new Tim Engelhardt track called 'Timing'. Tim is one of the best, and most prolific producers of his generation, and including him on this project, was a given . . . The second side mimics more of a typical peak time set from me compressed down to just over an hour. This side has a few curveballs as well. I was really lucky to have some of the producers out there that I admire the most offer up unreleased music for the project, like La Fleur, Locked Groove and Ejeca. Sanna's 'Second Story' is a groovy stomper that brings a cool change of pace and contrast in the mid part of the mix before I transition back to some more melodic bits with Tim Engelhardt's second track called 'Papillon' . . . I also wanted this album to shine a light on some new up and coming talent, and that's reflected in the tracks from A Friend of Marcus and Carl Dern. Carl's track 'Eyes Up' has been a staple track in my sets lately..." Also features J.Singh and Dhillon.

LP version. Almost 40 years after its theatrical debut, Cabum and Beat Records release for the first time ever the complete score for the movie Alien 2 Sulla Terra (1980, Ciro Ippolito), one of the most obscure films in the Italian horror/sci-fi realm, an apocryphal sequel to the iconic Alien by Ridley Scott (1979), released just a few months prior. One of the most sought-after soundtracks by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis fans, it is a prominent sample of the experimental style of the two composers that would feature prominently throughout the '80s. Their kaleidoscopic score begins with a country flavor and evolves with an astonishing electronic timber, sometimes morbid and obsessive. This release features nearly 80 minutes of music, complete with two cues from Uno Sceriffo Extraterrestre, Poco Extra Molto Terrestre (1979) that are used in the first part of the movie to build tension in a particular scene. This reissue was mastered by Enrico De Gemini thanks to the discovery of first-generation masters in Cabum's archives. RUSSELL, GENE New Direction LP
"Think Ahmad Jamal. Vince Guaraldi. Junior Mance. Red Garland. Ramsey Lewis. Then think again. It's Gene Russell with his New Direction, an album that originally appeared in 1971, only to be reissued on CD in 2003 as an import. But now New Direction serves as a kind of flagship re-reissue for Black Jazz and its catalog of recordings made by label founder Russell from sessions produced in New York City and Los Angeles during the early to mid 1970s. Essentially a trio recording of mostly covers, New Directions begins with 'Black Orchid,' with that amalgamation of the piano stylists referred to above, a kind of sonic rainbow with percussion. A driving, Latin-flavor confection, 'Black Orchid' is full of chords, based around two in particular, but with a sweet melody that grabs your attention right off. Russell's playing - which features a unique blend of chords and single lines but driven by an insistence that speaks to forward motion - is amply displayed here, his almost simple expressions perfectly enhanced by the spritely rhythmic textures. By way of contrast, and as a feature to New Directions, we visit one of the other predominant musical styles the album has to offer. 'Hitting the Jug' is your simple, basic blues, a medium-tempo swinger that, bereft of percussion, now offers a clear picture of the trio, the mix putting Russell in the middle, with bassist Henry Franklin (Larry Gates on bass for the opener and closer) and drummer Steve Clover on opposite sides. This one's a showcase for more chords and single notes, patience with the elementals, not to mention how the band can swing inside this more measured rhythmic gate. Simple. Straightforward. Honest. That Gene Russell on New Direction." -- John Ephland; Personnel: Henry Franklin (bass), Steve Clover (drums), Tony Williams (congas), Gene Russell (piano), Larry Gates (bass) on "Black Orchid" and "Making Bread."

Black Saint present a reissue of Sonny Clark Memorial Quartet's Voodoo, originally released in 1986. Voodoo shows the Sonny Clarke soulful hard bop conception as seen through the oblique perspective of a NY Downtown all-star quartet featuring John Zorn (alto sax), Wayne Horvitz (piano), Bobby Previte (drums), and legendary bassman Bill Drummond. This unique and iconic album stands as one of Zorn's first declared tributes to the art of an influential musician and composer. All compositions are by Sonny Clark including such hits as "Cool Struttin'" and "Something Special" both from his classic late '50s/early '60s Blue Note sessions. A full catalog of opened up hard bop structures and advanced jazz modes."Quartet masterminds Zorn and Wayne Horvitz spit fire, never allowing this heartfelt tribute to get too reverential... Here Zorn sounds like he's having serious fun" --Scott Yanow, All Music Guide.

SPK Zamia Lehmanni: Songs Of Byzantine Flowers LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl; 350gsm gatefold sleeve; includes download with "The Doctrine Of Eternal Ice". Originally released by Side Effects in 1986, Zamia Lehmanni was the third (and final) core SPK album and was Graeme Revell's first truly solo project. He was in a period of transition, somewhere between the industrial noise of the early years and his later award-winning soundtrack work. On the day before this was first released, this style of music, now ubiquitous (especially in soundtracks), did not exist. After Information Overload Unit (1981) cleared a space for subsequent explorations, and the environmental percussion and anchored mutilated sound collages of Leichenschrei (1982), the "body without organs" was fully eviscerated. Graeme felt "industrial music" was becoming ossified and needed to be taken into radically new territories: "post-industrial". The track "In Flagrante Delicto" (mastered as originally intended here) was later used by Revell for his work on the soundtrack for the 1989 film Dead Calm, which won him Best Original Score from the Australian Film Institute. Unavailable in any format since Mute's 1992 CD edition, Cold Spring Records now present this landmark album on newly remastered CD, and on vinyl for the first time since 1986. Approved by Graham Revell, this release comes with new artwork by Abby Helasdottir and is remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage). New liner notes from Graeme Revell, 2019.

"Three:four Records (Switzerland) and Feeding Tube Records (USA) are pleased to announce the release of Early Abstractions, Vol. 1 by Danny Oxenberg (Supreme Dicks), Bear Galvin, and Friends (Pillow Mt. Conspiracy). Early Abstractions, Vol. 1 is the follow-up their 2016 release Late Superimpositions (three:four records), and contains recordings made in New York, Western Massachusetts, and Los Angeles -- some old, some older, some relatively new, some borrowed, some blue . . . Around the world in 90 days, it feels like, this album has taken many forms. Originally it was going to be a double album of all older music that I recorded mainly at 76 Charles Street in NY in the '90s, and since then this has evolved to include other stuff from the 2000s. So originally this was going to be titled Early Abstractions (a nod to Harry Smith) and now it is kind of still half that, and other stuff. Still I would like to thank all of the friends who have played on this and helped record it. Like Julian Koster who played the Banjo, did some vocals, and recorded the track here called 'Banjo-Coke' (I 'played' the Coke) at his Grandmother's house, I believe in Long Island. I would also like to thank Shannon Ketch and Adam Langellotti who both played on and helped to record, 'Crackers'. And also thanks to Jenna and Les and Beverly and of course Mark Hanson for playing with us over the years. And I would also like to give a big thanks I guess to Steve Shavel, who we are all missing a lot and hope he reappears, but he played the majestic lap steel slide guitar here on 'Waves', and also did the background talking vocals. Mark Hanson played drums on that track. And maybe someday we will release an album of the Blinded Sphinx music we recorded back then. Also, I would be remiss not to thank Jane F. King and Tim Wilson for playing on 'Star Spangled to Death'." --Danny Oxenberg, NYC, March 2019. Original art by Hippolyte Hentgen and design/layout by Darryl Norsen. Produced by Maxime Guitton. Edition of 300.

"Welcome to the second album we've done with string maestro, Joseph Allred. Unlike O Meadowlark (FTR 451LP), this one features a smattering of Joseph's vocals, although his main thrust is still glistening instrumentals. The title song is a goddamn sad one, sung with reedy elegance, dealing with a kidnapped dog that serves as a stand-in for all earthly beings, full of both frailty and resilience. Another vocal track, 'The Crown' (which inspired the cover art), stems from a long conversation Joseph had with Max Ochs. It squeezes the inherently surreal aspects of dream-walking into semi-conventional blues tautology, and the fit is just right. The third and last vocal, 'O Columbia,' is a particular favorite, based as it is upon the some of the same melodies Fahey swiped for 'In Christ There Is No East or West,' although Allred takes things in all new directions. I had been a tad leery when I heard Joseph would be singing on this new session -- being so enamored of his unadorned instrumental technique -- but these tunes won me over in the course of a few plays. Maybe there'll be more verbal-content in his future? We would not say, 'no.' But the meat of this album remains Joseph's splendid inventions for guitar and banjo. His piece for Glenn Jones, 'The Giant Who Shrank Himself,' is a beautiful suite, worthy of its concept (that Jones is a behemoth who has to shrink himself in order to deal with us normals). It flows like the sweetest stream of wine you, I or anyone might imagine. 'Single Me a Stranger' is another literal killer, with sliding chords evoking the 1872 lynching and curse-fulfillment of an unlucky newcomer in the small Tennessee town where Allred grew up. It's spell-binding. As is 'Mark's Overture,' a banjo piece inspired by a homeless music critic in Cambridge, Mass. Another top-notch album by this great player. If you don't know Allred already, you will soon." --Byron Coley, 2019

CAEDMON Caedmon LP + 7"
Guerssen Records present a reissue of Caedmon's legendary debut from 1978, originally released as a private pressing. One of the most sought-after progressive folk-rock albums from the UK. Caedmon -- a five-piece student band in the '70s -- recorded this album to mark their farewell concert in early 1978, before they went their separate ways after university. They had literally no idea of the myths, rumors, and tales that would embellish (and sometimes distort) the musical arc traced by this album in the decades to come. The album contains twelve songs. Ten were written by the band. One was based on an ancient text by seventh century poet Caedmon. And the final track was a traditional gospel song. Angela Naylor's lead vocals are supported by close harmony male vocals throughout. Acoustic guitars, mandolin, and cello jostle with electric guitar, keyboards, percussion, and bass. The resultant blend can only be described as eclectic, conjuring a slightly bizarre mix of folk ballad, bossa-nova, and psychedelic jazz and funk. Little did they know that this would be described as acid-folk in years to come. Unusual time signatures, tight arrangements, improbable instrumentation, oblique and poetic stories tackling spirituality, distorted fuzz guitar, and the odd recorder solo. 1978 was the era of punk. Caedmon adopted a self-produced approach and recorded their farewell to fans in Barclay Towers Studio in Edinburgh, an attic flat, patronized by the Rezillos, among others. Essentially each song was recorded "live" in two or three takes on a four-track tape machine, with occasional overdubs. During the pressing, a call from the pressing plant informed the band that they had too much music recorded to fit on a 33rpm 12" vinyl. A quick decision resulted in two tracks being moved across to a 45rpm 7" single. The band was unsigned, boasted a small fan-base (mostly in Scotland), only occasionally played south of the border (notably at a disastrous gig at the Greenbelt Festival in 1977), enjoyed some success at the Edinburgh Fringe. Their niche fame came twenty years later. Both a re-release of the original album on CD by Kissing Spell Records, and a burgeoning world-wide vinyl collectors market made possible by the internet led to feverish demand for copies of the original vinyl of 1978. First licensed reissue of the 1978 album since the Kissing Spell CD. 24-bit remastering from the original master tapes; Four-page color insert with lyrics, rare photos, and liner notes; Original artwork.

RAMIREZ, RICHARD Amplified Tactics 2LP
Amplified Tactics collects four segments of live performances from Texas and Mexico in 1999, rolling back to an era when live noise shows were isolated mysterious affairs or opportunities to infiltrate mundane society via bars, tea shops, art galleries, youth centers, and goth clubs. Richard Ramirez is one of the first and last standing harsh noise originators from the Texan deserts and humid turf that would spawn some of the most influential and dirtiest units to ever grace the Xeroxed pages of zines ranging from industrial to grindcore. Having touched all the most essential noise imprints of his time (Tesco Organization, Praxis Dr. Bearmann, Release, Membrum Debile Propaganda, MSBR, Self Abuse Records, Mother Savage, etc.), Ramirez continues to define "fetish" in noise. Since the application of live recordings was a cornerstone of the artist's studio process these live sessions are as wide ranging, fluid and climactic as any proper "studio" releases from the vast library of SM noise that Mr. Ramirez has explored on the eve of 30 years of existence. If you're looking for an entry point to probe the inner working of Ramirez's most iconic visions of noise, Amplified Tactics is essential with its saturated ripping and wild envelopes. Edited from the original 2xCDr originally released in an edition of 50. Housed in a deluxe wide spine foil block jacket with large format newsprint poster; Edition of 300.

IVER, AHL Haunted Patterns 12"
If you've come across Amelie Lens's Fabric Presents mix (FABRIC 204CD/LP, 2019), then the name of Ahl Iver shall definitely ring a bell. New sensation Ahl Iver is undeniably on the cusp of big things, and his debut EP, Haunted Patterns, sets the tone in gutsy fashion. The opening track "7AM" features a punchy gabber kick and rush, hard-hitting drums and a healthy dose of slimy acid squelch to leave you dazed and confused for a while. Adding his ever-efficient spin to the original, Lenske mainstay Milo Spykers reworks the groove onto straightforward clubby railway as he sure knows well how to subdue the dancers through the most wildly enjoyable ankle-twisting/brain-melting maneuvers. 2020 repress. Hailing from late-'60s Detroit, Black Merda (pronounced "Murder") were both aesthetically and musically way ahead of their time. When most black groups (including Parliament/ Funkadelic) were still sporting suits, singing about love and using a horn section, Black Merda had already become a tight guitar-heavy freak-funk four piece. By weaving guitar rock and psychedelia into soul and R&B they were the gods of the underground "black rock" movement which fell somewhere between Jimi Hendrix and Parliament and MC5. But it wasn't just about the music, the message was just as important. As with the original release, features a 30-second 11th track not mentioned in the track listing on the outer sleeve but present on the album.

Hot off the heels of Aluxes, his 2018 Lumière Noire debut EP (LN 008EP), young Mexican DJ/producer Iñigo Vontier is inviting Chloé's label on a trip to the far corners of the body and mind with an album of demented grooves, psychedelic take-offs, and imaginary comic strips of mystical rituals. A bewitching debut full-length. The DJ/producer fully asserts his origins by brandishing the album's title El Hijo Del Maiz ("the son of the corn") almost as an emblem: "in Mexico, corn is eaten daily. It has long been defined as 'the gold of America', and I consider all Mexicans as children of corn". Whether contemplative or frenetic, the collection of tracks that make up El Hijo Del Maiz takes the kitchen sink and throws it out the window: languid rhythms, haunted vocals, and mysterious percussion fuel a discombobulated house set that scrambles the listener's five senses. Following the demented, dystopian "Xu Xu", which explores an imaginary jungle that harbored Mayan and Egyptian pyramids, Middle Eastern accents are once more present in the off-kilter "Bo Ni Ke" and its Japanese-influenced vocal trickery, which Moroccan flutes à la Jajouka transform into a feverish trance. With the following three tracks, Iñigo Vontier raises himself to the same level of excellence as the Pachanga duo (of which pride of the Mexican scene Rebolledo): the slumbering voice of "Awaken", heard as through the veil of hypnosis, slowly introduces a techno beat which literally brings the listener to a levitative state. In a house-ier vein, yet continuing in the same psychedelic, '90s-infused spirit, "Don't Go Back" disrupts the genre's usual signatures with an out-of-tune keyboard that is becoming the artist's trademark, destabilizing the listener into a drunken vertigo, with a good helping of sexiness. The ode to the magical herb "Marijuana" (featuring Thomass Jackson) proudly tramples into the debate that such a provocative title inevitably provokes. In the end, El Hijo Del Maiz is an album-length confirmation of Iñigo Vontier's uniqueness, and his adherence to Lumière Noire's policy of letting artists fully express their vision -- while letting their passions guide their idiosyncrasies and explorations of innovative electronic signatures. Also features Drugface and Beyou.

STAVROZ Gold Town EP 12"
Moodfamily's favorite four-piece returns home after many journeys. Skillfully combining influences, sounds and experiences from east and west, they translated their stories into a new EP oozing with drama, melancholy and determination. The EP describes itself as the soundtrack for an adventure to mysterious outskirts around the globe, starting with "Whale Parade". This prelude takes you to a hidden land after wandering through forests for many months. Guitar, piano, and percussion gently move in and carry you away. By the second track, "All Day I Zama", a slow beat dictated by a blanket of percussion evolves to a vigorous and groovy track with moaning vocals as the main theme. In title track "Gold Town" you will settle yourself in a covered wagon, heading for dodgy settlements on a misty mountain range, accompanied by a grieving trumpet. As the wagon slows to a crawl, "Ghajar" emerges; a downtempo emotion-filled song, where the piano and a scorching synth interchange melodies and tales.

MACHADO & LA PARRANDO EL CLAVO, BETSAYDA Loe Loa: Rural Recordings Under The Mango Tree LP
Olindo Records present Loé Loá, a landmark album in Afro-Venezuelan music, on vinyl for the first time. Originally released in 2017 on CD and digital formats, Loé Loá gained critical acclaim in North America and Europe from the likes of NPR, The New York Times, and Songlines. Most of the music on the album is in the style of Parranda, a traditional Venezuelan genre that literally translates into party. However, not every song is about joy and celebration as the band often sing about many of the most painful topics of daily life in Venezuela, as prevalent in 2019 as they were in 2017 when originally released: hunger, poverty, and shortages of basic medicine. The entire album was recorded out in the open in Betsayda Machado's home town of El Clavo in Barlovento, a region in the central Caribbean coast of Venezuela known for its cacao plantations and African heritage. It features 17 singers and 12 percussionists compared to the hundred or so that might be part of a real-life celebration. Yet the spirit, one of defiant survival and sheer joy, resounds the moment they strike the drum or sing the first note. Produced by Juan Souki; Recorded by Dario Peñaloza and Javier Aponte.

Out-Sider present a reissue of Wildfire's Smokin', originally released in 1971. Powerful and melodic hard-rock by this US power-trio: ultra-loud Quilter amps, killer leads, fuzz bass, furious drumming and vocals. Recorded at the legendary Sonobeat Studios in Austin (home of Mariani) and originally released in 1971 as a private demo album, now impossible to find. Originally formed in California in the late '60s, Wildfire consisted of Randy Love (guitar, vocals), Danny Jamison (bassm lead vocals), and Donny Martin (drums). Famous for powerful live shows, they packed the clubs with lines around the block of fans waiting to enter, becoming the house band for Finnegan's Rainbow and the favorite group of The Hessians Motorcycle Club, who became the unofficial guardians of the band. Soon, they got in touch with Pat Quilter from Quilter amps. Tired of blowing up amps when playing, Randy told Pat to design an amp that couldn't blow up. And he did it. Following Wildfire's input, Pat designed for the band the famous "Master Volume Dial" amp. In 1969, a Texas promoter heard the band in Southern California and brought them to Austin, becoming an instant hit locally in the Austin area. While in Texas, Wildfire shared the stage with Freddie King, the Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter, and ZZ Top. It was in Austin that the eight-song demo was cut at Sonobeat Records (home also of Mariani and Cold Sun), released in 1970 as a private pressing housed in a plain white cover with a Wildfire sticker, each one numbered. The demo album was never sold other than at a small record store in Southern California and it's now one the rarest hard-rock albums from the US. First bootlegged in the '90s and then officially reissued by Shadoks in 2006, here's a welcomed new vinyl edition. RIYL: Grand Funk, Bolder Damn, Demian, Cactus, Stack, Banchee, Blue Cheer, Hendrix... Master tape sound; includes insert with liner notes and photos.

DRONE The Stilling LP
The fourth album by drøne, (Mark Van Hoen and Mike Harding), is the third for Anna von Hausswolff's label, Pomperipossa Records. Featuring Zachary Paul on violins, Charlie Campagna (bass and cello), and Katt Newlon on cello, the strings add lush, warm layers to a darker, edgier sound. Gabi Strong debuts on guitar and the voices of a host of vocalists, including Claire Belhassine, Celia Eydeland, Bana Haffar, Pepa Ivanova, Nour Mobarak, and Brisa Romero. With the trademark drøne sounds of static, radio voices, field recordings, modular synthesizer, and found sounds, recording chance sounds right up to the final mix to add to the dynamism and energy of the album. Scream -- it's all you can do now. Overwhelming, scatter-gun information delivery has everyone confused, bowel churningly fearful and appalled at the nature of the changing times. Humans are biologically, psychologically, and emotionally able to cope with slow evolutionary change, but struggle with revolutionary, violent distortion or mutation. This leaves people anxious and even desperate for a firmer footing. The Stilling, a phenomenon whereby the wind speed on the planet seems to be slowing down for no known scientific reason, explores this state of discomfort and perplexion. Time spins. The glass is falling... Photography and typography by Nico Van Hoen; Artwork by Philip Marshall. Mastered by Charlie Campagna. Cut by Jason at Transition. Includes download code with bonus track, "Black Stone".

LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Eric Donaldson's self-titled album, originally released in 1971. Eric Donaldson's soaring falsetto has made him one of Jamaica's best-loved vocalists. Born in the country town of Bog Walk in 1947, Donaldson cut some ska material at Studio One in 1964, which never surfaced, and went on to form The West Indians vocal trio at the tail end of rock steady, enjoying minor local hits for Sir JJ and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Winning the annual Festival Song Competition with love ditty "Cherry Oh Baby" in 1971 saw him team up with former Jamaicans vocalist Tommy Cowan and hit-making producer Bunny "Striker" Lee, the subsequent recording of the tune at Dynamic Sounds studio resulting in a spectacular success around the world and subsequent hit cover versions by The Rolling Stones and UB40, among many others. This self-titled debut album was recorded at Dynamics in the wake of the hit with the set of upcoming players known as The Inner Circle, which then featured future members of Third World such as keyboardist and arranger Ibo Cooper and guitarist Cat Coore; along with the enduring "Cherry Oh Baby", there is a popular cover version of the doomed romance saga, "Sylvia's Mother" and an individual rendition of "Love Of The Common People", as well as the castigating "Miserable Woman", all popular with reggae fans at home and abroad. TRINITY Dreadlocks Satisfaction LP
LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Trinity's Dreadlock Satisfaction, originally released in 1979. The reggae artist known as Trinity is one of the music's best-known rappers, known in Jamaica as "toasters" or "deejays" for their key work at the microphone on sound systems. Born Wade Brammer in1954 and raised in the tough streets of the Two Mile ghetto in western Kingston, an early preoccupation with the toasting styles of U Roy and Big Youth kept him away from crime, leading to a debut single as Prince Charming and more solid early work released under the name Prince Glen. Bonding closely with fellow deejay Dillinger brought another name change to Trinity at Channel One studio, which enabled his debut album, Shanty Town Determination (1977), produced by Yabby You, and subsequent breakthrough material for Channel One and Joe Gibbs, the latter releasing "Three Piece Suit," the blueprint for Althea and Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking", which would catapult Trinity to international stardom. Dreadlocks Satisfaction was produced by Bunny Lee for his Jackpot label in 1979, placing Trinity's witty raps over some of Bunny's most unusual rhythms, including alternate, rockers-styled Johnny Clarke takes of The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of Mine" and The Tams' "Riding For A Fall," plus Cornell Campbell's takes of The Sensations' "Every Day Is A Holiday" and The Heptones' "Why Did You Leave"; Trinity also salutes Dillinger on a recut of John Holt's "Linger A While". LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Shorty The President's Fire Fire, originally released in 1979. Jamaican deejay Shorty The President may have been one of the more obscure figures to rise from the Kingston sound system scene, but the impact he made on vinyl recordings during the 1970s is no less important and his work remains coveted by reggae connoisseurs. Born Derrick Thompson in rural Trelawny in 1949, like many of his peers, he moved to the Jamaican capital as a teenager in search of better opportunities. As he gravitated to the Rastafari faith, an affiliation with the sound system Conquering Lion sparked interest from producer Rupie Edwards, who produced debut hits "President Mash Up The Resident" and "Yamaha Skank". Edwards issued debut album Presenting Shorty The President in 1976 and after sparse work for Enos McLeod, Joe Gibbs, Pete Weston, Winston Riley, and Keith Hudson, sophomore album Fire Fire was produced by Bunny Lee in 1978, with Shorty riding typically tough Aggrovators rhythms of the day, including Ronnie Davis's updated version of Bob Marley's "Kaya" and The Cables' "Baby Why", Delroy Wilson's "Have Some Mercy", and Barry Brown's take of Wilson's "I'm Not A King", as well as killer cuts of Brown's "Natty Roots Hold Them" as "Roots Man" and "Best Thing In Life" as "Do My Thing". MINOTT, SUGAR Leader For The Pack LP
LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Sugar Minott's The Leader For The Pack, originally released in 1985. Sugar Minott is part of the pantheon of Jamaican roots reggae icons, one of a handful of singers that indelibly changed the course of the music and helped it reach a broader overseas audience. Raised next door to one of Jamaica's most popular dancehalls, in the heart of a notorious west Kingston slum, Minott joined The African Brothers in the mid-1970s, making an impact with singles for Rupie Edwards, Clive Chin, and Micron Music, as well as with self-produced work, but the breakthrough came when Sugar went solo for Studio One, spearheading the reuse of classic rhythms at the facility for new purpose. He later moved away from Studio One to record sparse work for Prince Jammy, Mikey Dread, and other smaller producers but the main focus was Black Roots/Youth Promotion, the record label and sound system he established himself. Then, following smash hit "Good Thing Going", Sugar helped to launch the careers of dancehall stars like Tenor Saw and Nitty Gritty. The Leader For The Pack album was produced by Bunny Lee in 1985 at The Rock studio in London, established by Gibraltarians Danny, Eddy and Henry. Sugar's first fully synthesized album, it was arranged by Jackie Mittoo and revived classic rhythms of the past with minimal, synth-driven backing, including "Everybody Needs Love" as "This Is Rockers Music", alongside a great cut of "Sleng Teng" for the title track; "Them Have To Come A We" was co-written by fellow icon, Gregory Isaacs. Includes liner notes by David Katz.

Rotorelief present a reissue of Silver Apples' self-titled debut, originally released in 1968. First album of the '60s NY duo Silver Apples, remastered and boosted with the texture and feeling of 1968 original. Simeon sailing heavily treated oscillator sounds over drummer Danny Taylor's unrelenting beats. homemade synthesizer consisting of 12 oscillators (and an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second-hand electronic junk), Silver Apples quickly gained a reputation as New York's leading underground musical expression. Their pulsating rhythmic beats with the use of electronics laid the groundwork for what would become "Krautrock" silver."By 1967, the Overland Stage Electric Band was teetering on its last legs. The New York City five-piece had found some success playing covers of straight-ahead rock 'n' roll at gigs in the East Village, but tensions within the group were steadily tearing them apart. The lead singer, Simeon Coxe III, had gotten his hands on a vintage '40s audio oscillator and was insisting that it become a part of the show. The rest of the band was understandably upset - this was more than a decade before electronic music would become an accepted practice. Before long, the band was down to two members, Simeon, and drummer Danny Taylor. Now with full control, the two members re-christened themselves the Silver Apples and set about releasing one of history's great forgotten albums, their self-titled debut. Silver Apples is a record that reached far ahead of its time. It's not surprising then, in a year when the airwaves were still dominated by Motown and the Beatles (whose experimentation was tame by comparison), that it failed to garner much of an audience. Even now, nearly 40 years later, the record sounds fresh and unconventional - in 1968 there simply wasn't anything else like it." --Adam Bunch, Crawdaddy! (2007)

Rotorelief present a reissue of Silver Apples' second album Contact, originally released in 1969. Contact is the second album of the '60s NY duo Silver Apples, remastered and boosted with the texture and feeling of 1969 original."Aside from Simeon's use of a banjo on a couple of tracks, the music on Contact does not differ from that of their debut. One aspect improved upon was the lyrics; many possess the same 'cosmic' element found on Silver Apples, but others are full of bitterness, pain, paranoia, and confusion. In turn, the lead oscillator is used to greater effect, reflecting this newfound intensity. Simeon, who composed the text for five of Contact's ten songs (he framed one song on Silver Apples, 'Dancing Gods'), was largely responsible for this change." --Bart Bealmear, AllMusic

BERROCAL, JAC 1973-1976-1979 3LP BOX
This luxurious pink Cadillac color box set, 1973-1976-1979, brings together the first three albums of Jac Berrocal -- Musiq Musik (1973), Paralleles (1976), and Catalogue (1979) -- in which countless personalities of the crossover music of the hexagon participate. Musiq Musik (1973): Berrocal's first album, recorded in 1973 with the excessive reverberations of the crypt of the church Saint-Savinien in Sens, is a real notebook of sound travels, of instruments reported by Jac Berrocal and Roger Ferlet during their numerous journeys: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, India, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, including various instruments such as bells, muezzins, conches, shenaïs, cymbals, and gongs embellished with urban and incongruous sounds: horns, whistles, chickens, harmonium, and washing machine. The idea? Make music together, Jac Berrocal, Roger Ferlet, Dominique Coster. Paralleles (1976): Vince Taylor, the Black Archangel of rock n' roll, agrees to come and record "Rock n' Roll Station", a piece of futuristic clinking of a bicycle wheel. Other sessions contrary to custom, a pigsty with microphones mired in the middle of unruly pigs, towels shaken by Pierre Bastien in the middle of this is a noisy piece "Bric-à-Brac" made in homage to Luigi Russolo's repertoire reorganized by bonuses and unpublished from the same period. Catalogue (1979): Jac Berrocal and his "Marquises of Disorder" make the guitars rattle in primrose-sprayed vomit, patchwork of uncontrollable slows, furious accordion (Claude Parle) and martial rocks. Kind of "Micro-cinemas put end-to-end", a maelstrom of cries and saturation which, paradoxically, an album that is worth the respect of the punks and the contempt of jazz purists. Berrocal is certainly the only French cousin of New York's no wave. Deluxe, rigid box set with three metallic covers and an impressive booklet of photos and unpublished documents; 200 gram vinyl.

Running Back Incantations present Yogtze! A joint venture of musician/producer Daniel Helmer (Mantra Mantra, Gudrun von Laxenburg) and filmmaker from Vienna Daniel Meuzard (Feater, Skymax, Vallay). The duo offers a headstrong trip deep into the tune-in-turn-on-drop-out-mentality of European minds outside of their natural environment. Helmer and Meuzard met around 2005 in Peru where they both participated in an ayahuasca ceremony. After this experience they decided to travel and discover South America together for some weeks. During that journey, the idea of a musical project (Yogtze) was born. Two years and many miles later, Helmer and Meuzard saw Alejandro Jodorowsky's Montana Sacra (The Holy Mountain, 1973) at a small film festival in Paris. The movie inspired them to create a musical composition that reflects its spirit and atmosphere. In order to do so, they decided to travel Morocco and record music on a small 8-track tape machine at a friend's home studio in Essaouira. "The artistic process felt very natural. All we had to do was to open up to the cosmos and let the music flow through our bodies," said Meuzard. Neither Meuzard nor Helmers intended to release those recordings, since the sessions were more of a personal nature and meant to create a musical experience for themselves. A decade later, their Moroccan friend, who stumbled upon the tapes while cleaning his storage, urged them to release their recordings so everyone could experience the same musical journey as they had back in 2007. "It would be a grand act of selfishness not to share this work of art with others," he told them. Luckily for the world, Helmer and Meuzard decided to finally edit, mix and master the rest of the material in 2018/2019 and named their project Yogtze. Expect a record full of wondrous soundscapes, haunting melodies, and captivating themes that would fit in many categories or definitions and none at the same time. Music from and for memories, tangerine dreams, and chessboards.

VA Funky Chicken: Belgian Grooves from the 70's Part 1 2LP
2019 repress; Double LP version, part 1. 15 tracks on 180 gram gatefold 2LP with liner notes. Artists: Chakachas, Mad Unity, René Costy, Alex Scorier, Open Sky Unit, Plus, André Brasseur, Les Hélions, Chicken Curry & His Pop Percussion Orchestra, Placebo, Black Blood, S.S.O. (feat. Douglas Lucas & The Sugar Sisters, Nico Gomez & His Afro Percussion Inc., and Chocolat's. The best Belgian dance tracks from the beginning of the '70s. Dire times, they were, full of poverty and hardship. To make a living out of popular music was a near-impossibility in a small country like Belgium. This precarious situation, though, proved to be a blessing in disguise for creative minds. When it's hard to get your hands on some money, trying out as many things as you can seems the logical thing to do. On the other hand, if there's hardly any money to be gained anyway, you may just as well play what you bloody well like. That's what Belgians like to do anyway. Moreover, living in a country where virtually every musical wave passes through also inspires. In the early '70s, those waves were (Afro-)funk, soul, and Latin. The situation as a whole was a favorable one for some visionary musical entrepreneurs. Jean and Roland Kluger created a musical dynasty, American-style, with successful acts like Chakachas and Two Man Sound. Their rival, Marcel De Keukeleire, scored worldwide hits with Amadeo, Chocolat's, and "The Birdy Song." Relying on zealous energy and a shamelessly commercial logic, every effort was aimed at success, so they jumped on as many international bandwagons as they could and tried out their own variants on the local market. Nearly every style in the post-war scene is represented here: Hein Huysmans' jazz-funk, the jazzy prog-rock of Cos, or the fusion of Open Sky Unit. And of course there's Marc Moulin, a name that needs little or no introduction. This is the missing link between the variety orchestras of the '60s and the electronic triumphs of Telex in the late '70s and early '80s. These tracks offer the same sense of adventure and slightly surreal pigheadedness that are also present in the best Belgian contributions to dance music. Think Front 242, Technotronic, or Soulwax/2manydjs. This is the ground they built upon.

ECHT! Douf 12"
Echt! -- an instrumental, futuristic four-piece inspired by the concepts absorbed in electronic music and musical production. Having crystallized their innovative style and sound on the Brussels scene, this group of visionary music makers are pleased to announce the release of their debut EP Douf, released via groove-heavy record label Sdban Ultra. Recorded in an empty space in Colfontaine, Hainaut in just three days, Echt! draw on influences including electro, hip-hop, psychedelic groove, footwork, trap, funk, and futuristic jazz. Artists that excite them include Jonwayne, DJ Rashad, Deantoni Parks, J Dilla, Dorian Concept, and Aphex Twin. Across eight tracks consumed as one continuous 16-minute mix of swirling beats and edgy offbeat rhythms, Echt! weave together a musical collage of sound -- equal parts acoustic and electric. Tracks like the sonic sound explosion of "Bonjour", the scatter rhythms and busy hi-hats of "Tsht" and the abstract beats and subby bass of "Mad Merckx" are symptomatic of the Echt! sound that is heavy in groove and deep in intrigue. Echt! look to emulate the producer's off-beats, the compressor's swell, the repeating samples or the DJ's transitions. Echt means "vrai de vrai" -- "true" or "real" in Brusseleir (Brabantian dialect of Brussels). It is a direct reference to the fact that their sound transmission is "real", performed with conventional musical instruments as oppose to computer music which the production might suggest. It also relates to the fact that none of the members of the band are originally from Brussels -- bassist Federico Pecoraro is from Italy, keyboardist Dorian Dumont is from France and drummer Martin Mereau and guitarist Florent Jeunieaux are both from Mons. Elsewhere, debut single "R2D2" is a raw, gritty musical adventure while the skittish future funk of "Chicago Stuk" and subtle vibrations of "So Zat" offer further explorations into the world of Echt! "Douf is our tribute to Teklife DJs such as DJ Rashad, DJ Earl, Taso and DJ Spinn", says keyboardist Dorian Dumont.

ICONOCLAST Domination Or Destruction LP
Sealed Records release the complete remastered Iconoclast discography, including the immense self-released 1983 Demo, the Flipside 7" from 1985, plus two compilation tracks. It's a small but perfectly formed discography and one that 36 years after it was first recorded still has power, intensity and rage. Iconoclast were part of the early '80s American peace punk scene -- idealistic bands highly influenced by Crass which shined amongst the heavily nihilistic California punk scene of the era. Iconoclast's sound was in tune with Discharge, early Antisect, or Wretched while lyrically the songs were political and to the point. The demo was followed by their only vinyl release on Flipside which has two ragers and the more mellow "In These Times" which has a touch of The Mob and Omega Tribe about it. The band had tracks on various compilations including the seminal International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit LP on R Radical in 1984 which had the cream of the crop of international hardcore punk of the heyday. Domination Or Destruction comes housed in a heavy reverse board sleeve and includes a 24-page, 11x11" booklet containing interviews, photos, and flyers from the era documented (1983-1985), which will help understanding the band ideas and the local scene of the era.

BYSTRIAKOV, VOLODYMYR Alice Through The Looking Glass, 1982 LP
Shukai present their second release, music for the animated television film Alice Through the Looking Glass, never before released. The music was recorded in 1981 and the film was broadcasted on Soviet television in 1982. Alice Through The Looking Glass, created by Kyivnauchfilm studio and directed by Efim Pruzhansky, was a color animated film based on the novel by Lewis Carroll. Volodymyr Bysrtiakov is a Soviet analog to the French Vladimir Cosma or Italian Ennio Morricone. He was a great soundtrack composer whose most active years were in the '80 and '90s when he worked at the Kyivnauchfilm studio, whose audio department was like the British BBC Radiophonic Workshop at the time. The soundtrack for the animated film Alice Through The Looking Glass was an attempt to create a psychedelic electroacoustic piece with a Victorian flavor. The film animation style is similar to Terry Gilliam's Monty Python cartoon clips. Gatefold sleeve; Obi; Edition of 300.

BEATSTALKERS, THE Scotland's No. 1 Beat Group LP
Complete recordings by The Beatstalkers, 1963-69, the legendary band from Glasgow. Fabulous mod-beat, wild R&B, and pop-psych, including all their 45 sides for Decca and CBS plus early demos. Formed in Glasgow in 1962 during the early beat boom by Alan Mair and Eddie Campbell, their line-up also included Davie Lennox, Tudge' Williamson (replaced by Jeff Allen) and Ronnie Smith. Playing an authentic brand of rhythm n' blues and soul covers, they soon took the city by storm and were famous for their riotous shows, attracting hordes of screaming girls and young fans. No wonder they were dubbed "the Scottish Beatles" by the press. Between 1965 and 1969, The Beatstalkers would go on to release a total of seven singles. All these sides are featured here. Including mod/freakbeat classics like "Base Line", "Ev'rybody's Talkin' 'Bout My Baby", "You'd Better Get A Better Hold On", plus several tracks penned by a young David Bowie ("Silver Tree Top School For Boys", "Everything Is You", "When I'm Five"), a killer psych cover of The Action's "Little Boy", and more. The Beatstalkers were a strong live attraction in the clubs and ballrooms around Great Britain (they also held a residence at the Marquee) and were highly praised by their contemporaries, including The Who, with whom they shared a "Ready Steady Go" television appearance. David Bowie was also among their crowd and through mutual manager Ken Pitt, he ended up writing three songs for them. He also played guitar and sang backing vocals on some of the recording sessions. Some of The Beatstalkers 7" were also released in the US, Australia, and France (where an EP housed in a cool picture sleeve was issued). The band also toured Germany many times. In 1969, after their van was stolen with all their equipment, The Beatstalkers broke up. Eddie Campbell was later in Tear Gas and Jeff Allen went on to play for Dr. K's Blues Band and then East Of Eden. Alan Mair was a co-founder of The Only Ones (of "Another Girl Another Planet" fame). The band reunited for a show in Glasgow and in 2018 a book about the band was published. Remastered sound; includes color insert with rare photos and detailed liner notes by Lenny Helsing (Ugly Things).

VA Matita Emostatica LP
Matita Emostatica is the reissue of a sought-after compilation connecting the most underrated outsider artists of the Milan scene, in the early eighties. The amazing artwork is the creation of influential designer and photographer Roberto Masotti, a very well-known figure in the avantgarde and jazz realm (he made astonishing portraits for the likes of Anthony Braxton, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Carla Bley, etc.) The compilation was produced in 1981 by Al Aprile and released by Materiali Sonori. Among the ten artists, you can find future journalists, unstoppable record collectors, renowned photographers, and influential underground persona... just scroll down the album and read the names of Monofonic Orchestra, Angelo Vaggi, Baker Street Band, Al Aprile, Roberto Masotti, and many others. The result was quite unbelievable, ranging from small cosmic opus to avantgarde symphonies and asymmetrical ethno-world jams. In the end Matita Emostatica was quite in line with the efforts coming from the rest of Europe and the other side of the ocean, so to speak the compilation wouldn't be out of place in the Ralph Records or Crammed Discs catalog. A postcard from a country that is no more. Also features The Electric Art, Alphaville, Le Jour Prochain, Rocky Schiavone & The Gangsters, OFF-SET, and The Stumblers.

MIDDEX Scrutiny Cassette
Recorded with Lindsay Corstorphine at Devil's Mango III. "Oblex" versions mixed by Oblate and Middex. Middex came out of the city-edge where aircraft fly low, where runways and canals are false exits and disappeared in to the dense city and with crude electronics and blunt voice attempts a communication beneath tarmac, above rooftop and with side-eye slowly surveying left and right. Middex performs very occasionally and has released on Polytechnic Youth and Makina Books.

JAY GLASS DUBS Two Devotional Songs for Spacemen 3 In The Style Of Love Inc. Cassette
Written, mixed, produced, and mastered by Jay Glass Dubs, Athens, 2019. Dimitris Papadatos is a composer, musician, and sound artist based in Athens, Greece. The main concern in his work is an apposition of disparate elements that assume a re-appropriation of historically applied methodologies while questioning forms of empowering them. The biggest body of his work reflects issues as copyright, spirituality, and originality, undergoing a constant state of transfiguration of its outsourcing. His project, Jay Glass Dubs, is an exercise of style focusing on a counter-factual historical approach of dub music, stripped down to its basic drum/bass/vox/effects form.

#1 2019 Album of the year in The Wire magazine! Restocked. 75 Dollar Bill is one of the essential groups at the heart of NYC's underground. Driven by the telepathic union of Che Chen's microtonal electric guitar and Rick Brown's odd metered percussion their long-form sound is unmistakable and compelling. On their third album I Was Real, the group expands in bold new directions, embracing brilliant fuller orchestrations, joyous rockers and entrancing new textures. Having emerged as a vibrant musical force with their previous effort -- with Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock (GB 047CD, TW J CS/LP, 2016) -- 75 Dollar Bill have spent the last few years bringing their music to new places and people, delivering what NYC locals have known for years, with their dedication to performance in venues of all shapes and sizes. The fruits of this work can be heard here on their expansive new double-LP I Was Real. The album, its title's origin a jumbled misremembering of the lesser-known Motown song "He Was Really Saying Something", is 75 Dollar Bill's third, featuring new directions accompanying the band's previously established interest in sprawling, unusual grooves and microtonal melodies. The record is enhanced by the presence of eight additional players in various combinations over its nine tracks -- but also shows off the duo's strength when stripped down to the core. Requiring a variety of approaches, the album was recorded over a four-year period, in four different studios, with the band's closest associates and collaborators in a range of different ensemble configurations. The album also features several "studio as instrument" constructions that harken back to the collage-experiments of the band's early cassette tapes, while at the same time pointing to territories altogether new. The players involved highlight the "social" aspect of the band and the eight guests that appear on the record are some of the band's closest friends and collaborators. Some pieces were conceived in the band's very early days and others are much newer, but the music is unmistakably 75 Dollar Bill. As Steve Gunn said about the previous record: "Strings come in underneath Che Chen's supreme guitar tone. Rick Brown's trance percussion offers a guiding support with bass, strings, and horns supporting the melody. They have gathered all the moving parts perfectly." Double-LP version presented in a heavy tip-on gatefold jacket with textured clothe wrap and matte foil stamping.Personnel: Rick Brown - plywood crate, hand and foot percussion, crude horns; Che Chen - 6 and 12-string and quarter-tone guitars, percussion; with: Sue Garner - guitar and bass guitar; Cheryl Kingan - alto and baritone saxophones; Andrew Lafkas - contrabass; Karen Waltuch - viola; Jim Pugliese - percussion; Barry Weisblat - signal processing, Casio SK-1; Steven Maing - quarter-tone guitar; Carey Balch - hi-hat.

MENDES, ARMANDO Parallel Universe 2LP
Portuguese artist Armando Mendes makes a huge statement with his debut album Parallel Universe, which was written and recorded over two-and-a-half years between LA, London, and Berlin with legends including Robert Owens, Ithaka from the N.W.A. crew, and Defected's Jinadu. Armando Mendes is one of Portugal's most assured artists. His rich and musical sound is informed by jazz and funk and he has played all over the world from Russia to Australia. His tremendous debut album ranges across the electronic music spectrum from downbeat and jazzy to deep house and electronica. Ithaka is the guest on the album opener "This Life's All We Got", which is a lush downbeat song with pensive lyrics. Late night jazz house stylings define "Things U Do 2 Me" while "Acid Yardies" looks to the club with its serrated 303s and dub wise drums. Chicago vocal royalty Robert Owens lends his heartfelt and buttery tones to the perfectly deep "No Regrets" and after an acid and piano ambient fusion on "MS20 Interlude" there is more rich, spiritual, and jazzy house ("Parallel Universe", "Khun Pui - Mae Nam", and "The Melody Inside") as well as more synth laden and electronic grooves to get dancefloors moving ("One Night in Bangkok"). The majestic, percussive and colorful "Tropical Affair" is just that, then things get tender and introspective on the gorgeous "Electric 88" before a radio edit of the classy pop house that is "The Melody Inside" featuring Jinadu closes things out in emotional fashion. This is a widescreen musical journey that makes a lasting impact from an artist who is looking set for big things.

2020 repress. Recorded on a low budget in early 1968 by students in Oberlin, Ohio and originally released in a run of only 300 copies, Ant Trip Ceremony's only album, 24 Hours, remains very of its time, typifying the zeitgeist of a late 1960s America abundant with the music of an inspired generation. The presence of a "Hey Joe" cover and the album's current status as a reissue beg for it to be interpreted through the lens of Lenny Kaye's influential 1972 compilation of proto-punk, Nuggets, and 24 Hours fits predictably into that mold. The band's version of the standard lies somewhere between The Leaves' frenetic original and Jimi Hendrix's laid-back, downtempo interpretation with the album's 11 other tracks accordingly straddling the line between raucous garage rock and gauzy psychedelia.

2020 repress. 140 gram LP on grey vinyl. Recorded in 1981, this classic album took the band further down the road of despair, initiated with Seventeen Seconds, with an album full of mournful atmospheric tracks, including their hit single, "Primary". "Robert Smith has expressed his appreciation for the music of Joy Division and I would say that this album, Faith, is The Cure's Closer -- dark, monotone, toy drumming with layers of anguish and compelling lyrics. 'The Funeral Party' is like Joy Division's 'Eternal' -- dealing with loss in an effective, but original way. I compare The Cure's Faith album to Joy Division's Closer only to express how well I feel Robert Smith managed to make an effective album -- this is original, unique and beautiful music."

ASHIKAWA, SATOSHI Still Way (Wave Notation 2) LP
Repressed. LP version. 350gsm sleeve with selected UV high gloss varnish. Liner notes by Midori Takada, Satoshi Ashikawa, and Gareth Quinn Redmond. WRWTFWW Records announce the reissue of Satoshi Ashikawa's Still Way (Wave Notation 2). Initially released in 1982 as part of the Wave Notation series (which includes Hiroshi Yoshimura's Music For Nine Postcards), Still Way is, without a doubt, a seminal Japanese environmental/ambient/minimalism album, often mentioned alongside Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass (1983) (WRWTFWW 018LP, WRWTFWW 019CD/LP) and Hiroshi Yoshimura's Green (1986) as one of the genre's most important pieces. "Like the moment of stillness, after the wind passes through the garden, when the rain stops for a brief second..." Notably inspired by Erik Satie's Furniture Music and Brian Eno's ambient work, Satoshi Ashikawa aimed to compose music "intended to be listened to in a casual manner, as a musical landscape or a sound object -- not something that would stimulate listeners but music that should drift like smoke and become part of the environment." The result is simply phenomenal, subtle minimalism and emotional elegance exquisitely orchestrated by Satoshi Ishikawa and his team consisting of his wife Masami Ashikawa (on flute), Midori Takada (on vibraphone), Yuko Utsumi (on harp), Tomoko Sono (on piano), and Junko Arase (on vibraphone). In conjunction with Still Way, WRWTFWW Records is releasing Laistigh den Ghleo (WRWTFWW 039CD/LP), a companion album by Irish ambient/minimalist composer Gareth Quinn Redmond, inspired by Ashikawa's approach. Liner notes by Midori Takada, Satoshi Ashikawa, and Gareth Quinn Redmond.
