BREATHLESS The Glass Bead Game LP
"Appropriately naming themselves after the French New Wave classic from Jean-Luc Godard, Breathless are effortlessly cool, fashionably dark, hopelessly melancholic and frustratingly off-center romantics. Often lumped together with bands like The Sound and Comsat Angels, Breathless have more in common with the mid to late '80s wandering output of The Cure, The Cocteau Twins and other artists stretching the post punk dream pop template, thanks to the strength of their arrangements and shifting time signatures, along with one of the greatest vocalists to ever step foot in the genre. Ari Neufeld knew a unique talent when she saw it and quickly drafted Dominic Appleton in to her current band due to his inventive keyboard skills. The two immediately found that they had a strong songwriting bond that far outstripped the rest of the group. Folding in guitarist Gary Mundy, with whom Appleton had been in previous projects, including their marvelous work backing Anne Clark on her debut album, the trio set out on a new path, with Appleton crucially taking command of the vocal duties. Linked to labels like 4AD, but with a strong sense of independence and a reluctance to tour endlessly, Breathless would self release their entire catalogue on their Tenor Vossa label. Certainly, the band had the charisma needed for stardom, along with the songwriting skills, but their output would remain on the margins, beloved by those in the know."

APPAREL WAX 007 12"
Apparel Wax comes back after a long summer with another EP, the seventh of its catalog and yet again another display of four different musical approaches brought together as one. The EP is, indeed, four tracks. One starts off with a groovy execution of a classic house track, an archetypal and simple house tune with a defined personality and the perfect start, from square one. With the second, you start to shift the perspective to a more funky and tribal vibe with the help of the percussion, piano chords, and simple bass and guitar lines to close on the A side which is a modern view on something classical. Track three breaks in bringing an energetic overload since the first seconds with a heavy rhythmic section and keeps up the same pace throughout the whole track even when slowing down. Its insistent and slightly distorted hi hats, along with decisive piano chords helped by some well-crafted vocal samples, take you all round this journey through a packed imaginary dancefloor. Let's take the foot off the pedal for track four which is instead the most desirable closing with its smooth yet impactful sounds which create an ideal sunset mood to plunge into.

FRANCES, AOIFE NESSA Land Of No Junction LP
LP version. "On the eponymously titled final song of her debut album Land Of No Junction, Irish songwriter Aoife Nessa Frances sings 'Take me to the land of no junction / Before it fades away / Where the roads can never cross / But go their own way." This search, indeed the heart of the album, recalls journeys towards an ever shifting centre -- a centre that cannot hold -- with maps that are constantly being rewritten. She writes: 'The album title is a result of a mishearing. Cian Nugent (Aoife's musical collaborator and co-producer) was telling me about childhood trips he made to Llandudno in Wales, passing through a station called Llandudno Junction... Land Of No Junction later became a place in itself. A liminal space -- a dark vast landscape to visit in dreams... A place of waiting where I could sit with uncertainty and accept it. Rejecting the distinct and welcoming the uncertain and the unknown.' The album is shot through with this sense of mystery -- an ambiguity and disorientation that illuminates songs with smokey luminescence. Yet, through the haze, everything comes down to what, where and who one is. With Land Of No Junction, she has built a universe full of intimacy and depth, with lyrics written through a process of free thought writing. It lends the record fluidity, each song in dialogue with the next not only through language, but the way each musical choice complements or threads into another: 'I would write without putting pressure on taking the song in any particular direction. It all carried itself naturally and instinctively with melody coming first and then structure later.' Written over several years, the songs traverse and inhabit this indeterminate landscape: the beginnings of love, moments of loss, discovery, fragility and strength, all intermingle and interact. Some songs -- like lead single 'Blow Up' -- date back to university days, where Frances studied film. Borrowing its title from the 1966 Antonioni picture of the same name, it indirectly provided the catalyst for Frances's broader considerations about being a woman and self-determination -- 'Blow Up' and 'Less Is More' were written before the abortion referendum was passed in Ireland in 2018 -- during time when women were forced to travel abroad during crisis pregnancies. They are both songs about being a woman and finding strength in a forever changing world."

OLANDER, JEREMY Balance Presents Vivrant 2LP
Double LP version. The Swedish Vivrant label founder, DJ, and producer joins the revered Balance Presents series. Since its inception in 2015, Jeremy Olander's label and event series, Vivrant, has become one of the most intriguing platforms for the melodic house and techno sound. With this long overdue project, Olander is bringing two discs of exclusive music from himself and friends. Includes individual tracks downloads and mixes.Olander on the release: "Balance Presents Vivrant encompasses what the label sounds like in 2019 and beyond . . . 70% of the music is unreleased stuff from me that I've only played in my sets and music that would typically stay unreleased, or completely new stuff I've made specifically for this album . . . I approached the first side as I would the first few hours playing an open to close set at a club. The atmosphere and vibe are stripped down, the drum patterns are different from what I would play at peak time . . . The first three tracks are new originals under a new name I came up with for this compilation specifically. The fourth track is a remix I made of one of my older unreleased tracks called 'Dharma' that never ended up being released. After that is something Vivrant associate Marino Canal sent me, which is a collaboration with a friend of his called Miguel Payda that I felt fit perfectly into the mood. It's followed up by an incredible new Tim Engelhardt track called 'Timing'. Tim is one of the best, and most prolific producers of his generation, and including him on this project, was a given . . . The second side mimics more of a typical peak time set from me compressed down to just over an hour. This side has a few curveballs as well. I was really lucky to have some of the producers out there that I admire the most offer up unreleased music for the project, like La Fleur, Locked Groove and Ejeca. Sanna's 'Second Story' is a groovy stomper that brings a cool change of pace and contrast in the mid part of the mix before I transition back to some more melodic bits with Tim Engelhardt's second track called 'Papillon' . . . I also wanted this album to shine a light on some new up and coming talent, and that's reflected in the tracks from A Friend of Marcus and Carl Dern. Carl's track 'Eyes Up' has been a staple track in my sets lately..." Also features J.Singh and Dhillon.

LUNCH & ROWLAND S. HOWARD, LYDIA Shotgun Wedding LP
Bang! Records present a reissue of Lydia Lunch and Rowland S. Howard's Shotgun Wedding, originally released in 1991. Lydia Lunch: New York City's provocateur, poet, singer, author, performer, and actress. From fronting the influential no-wave group Teenage Jesus and The Jerks to her current musical incarnation as Big Sexy Noise, with Gallon Drunk's noise makers James Johnston, Terry Edwards, and Ian White; countless collaborations and projects in between Lydia has never played by anyone's rules but her own. This 1991 collaboration with the Australian iconic cult figure Rowland S. Howard is perhaps one of her most revered. Featuring production by JG Thirwell (Foetus, Manorexia) and drums by Jim Sclavunos (Bad Seeds, Grinderman) it's a veritable who is who of the post punk/no wave scene of the time. Rowland S. Howard is no doubt best known for his work with the Birthday Party, his discordant guitar is an essential factor in their sound. Howard sadly passed away from liver cancer in 2009. A hugely influential alternative musician, in 2011 he was subject to a 110-minute documentary entitled Autoluminescent, by cult filmmakers Richard Lowenstein and Lynne Maree Milburn, which received an independent cinema release. Featuring luminaries such as Nick Cave, Bobby Gillespie, Wim Wenders, and of course... Lydia Lunch, the film highlights Howard s genius, talent, and rightfully elevates him to the cult status he so deserves. With both parties at the height of their respective talents, this is an alternative rock gem, yet however maintains an atmosphere of eerie beauty throughout. Out of print for years, this re-press is a must have.

MORRICONE, ENNIO La Chiave CD
Beat Records present the soundtrack for La Chiave, a film by Tinto Brass, presented for the first time on CD from first-generation stereo album master tapes vaulted in Cabum archives in pristine conditions. Music composed, orchestrated, and conducted by Ennio Morricone. La Chiave (aka The Key, La clè, Der Schlüssel) is an erotic movie directed by Tinto Brass in 1983. The story of the film takes place in Venice during the fascist era on the eve of the declaration of the Second World War. It is the story of an elderly English professor, director of the Art Biennale, and his young wife Teresa. In 1983, the Triple Time Music label issued a 33rpm album with ten selections assembled by the composer himself. The same material was reissued on a French 33rpm album and on a German 33rpm album. For this world premiere CD reissue, Beat Records have remastered the first-generation stereo master tapes vaulted in Cabum archives and used for the 1983 Italian vinyl. For Ennio Morricone fans around the world, it'll surely be a welcome addition, especially considering that La Chiave is one of the very few scores by Ennio Morricone that was not yet available in CD format. The album opens with a grotesque slow waltz reprising Strauss's "The Blue Danube Waltz", given a very personal arrangement in "Da Vienna A Vienna (1a versione)" and reprised in "Da Vienna A Vienna (2a versione)", and "Quattro Frammenti Per Orchestra Da Camera". For "Funebre E Pomposo",' the composer has written a very dramatic orchestral piece for a funeral. The classic side of Ennio Morricone is present in "Due Variazioni Da Un Tema Sereno", where the Baroque approach represents Venice. A happy theme with a prominent flute and waltz tempo describes the quieter moments of the plot in "Citazione Da Un Vecchio Valzer", and there's a can-can with funny tonalities typical of the Petri and Tornatore movies in "Mini Can Can Grottesco". A string quartet slowly describes the sensuality of the protagonist in "Tre Frammenti Per Quattro D'archi", and a psychological feeling of sadness and anxiety is evoked by the seemingly quiet piece "Malessere". The piece "Lei Pensata Da Lui", with a Baroque flavor alternating between folk and pop, cheerfully closes the disc. La Chiave is the second release in a series aiming to reevaluate the classic Cabum OST catalog. Graphic design by Claudio Fuiano and Daniele De Gemini. Remastering by Claudio Fuiano.

BREAKBOT By Your Side 2LP+CD
2020 repress with CD added. Ed Banger's newest and brightest star Breakbot aka Thibaut Berland announces his debut album By Your Side. Having delighted dancefloors around the world with his infectious discoid funk of "Baby I'm Yours" and "Fantasy," and killer re-rubs for Justice and Metronomy, amongst others, "One Out of Two" is the first single to be taken from this multi-instrumentalist's debut -- crammed with soulful robo-disco and emotive ballads, By Your Side conjures up the ghosts of the Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren and Hall And Oates, as well as the nostalgic TV themes to Silver Spoons or Punky Brewster. Berland explains : "My elder brothers had a huge influence on me when was a kid. David, the oldest, introduced me to soul, funk and pop, making me tapes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Phil Collins, and many other things. I remember spending lots of time in his bedroom listening to his records." In later years the likes of Air, Alex Gopher, Mr. Oizo and of course, Daft Punk were on heavy rotation for Thibaut -- this heady mélange of all of the above helping to create the Breakbot sound. It was Berland's intention to make an album that rewards you for listening to it as a whole: "I guess you could say my album is more an album of pop songs than a Berlin techno record, with water drop sounds in it -- I wanted to make a pop journey that would have all my influences, without being a reference catalog." From the opening perfect slice of retro/future summer funk "Break of Dawn," it's clear that this has to be one of 2012's funkiest albums. "Fantasy" features the vocals of L.A.-based vocalist Ruckazoid -- an astonishing discovery whose honeyed pipes are a dead ringer for the late, lamented King Of Pop. Four tracks, including "One Out of Two" features Irfane's irresistible vocals. Björn from Pacific! sings on the glorious "By Your Side (Pt 1 & 2)."

DIVE, SASCHA Detroit Sunrise 12"
Sascha Dive was last spotted on Bondage Music earlier in 2019 with the deep hypnotic pulses of "Dark Night" on Bondage Games Part 5 (BOND 12048EP). So, it's fitting he returns with Detroit Sunrise and, as sure as day follows night, it's every bit as deep, pulsing and hypnotic as you'd expect from the Frankfurt craftsman. His first full EP for the Leipzig label. "Detroit Sunrise" warms up with broad, swinging drums, rippling textures, and a crucial spoken-word sample every person should consider. It sets the scene for two classic Dive deep adventures as both "Dub Chronicles #1" and "Dub Chronicles #2" both roll out with subtlety and understatement. Layered, absorbing, and endless; timeless tools made for those deep mix moments of magic. Last but not least, the EP ends on an upbeat. "Ghostdancer" takes more of a sprightly, light-footed note with an upward-spiraling arpeggiated riff, gentle ebb-and-flow chords, and a light peppering of cosmic flurries. Ghoulishly good. Like all things by Dive and Bondage Music. Don't get tied down, get tied up...

SALON DADA/COL CORAZON Lo Que No Existe, Existe: Registros De Una Saga Post Punk En El Peru (1986-1990) LP
Salón Dadá and Col Corazón were two bands led by Támira Bassallo and Jaime de Lama, active between 1986 and 1990. They emerged in Lima, in the context of the hardcore punk movement known as rock subterráneo. They distinguished themselves by their sound experimentation and their unconventional song structures, which led them from the stridency of noise rock to the use of Andean sonorities. In this sense, they were able to assimilate the innovative spirit of post-punk and became the most representative saga of this sound in Peru. And although they did not leave official recordings, the cult around them has been increasing over time. Lo Que No Existe, Existe: Registros De Una Saga Post Punk En El Peru (1986-1990) compiles a series of recordings from various sources, including rehearsals and live takes, presented for the first time in vinyl format, with substantial visual documentation, and extensive liner notes telling the story of the group. This release allows one to approach the sound and universe of what was one of the most beloved, respected, and innovative groups of rock subterráneo, one of the best-kept secrets of the Peruvian scene. This project is part of the Essential Sounds collection, with which Buh Records presents a series of fundamental works of the Peruvian musical avant-garde.

EIELSON, JORGE EDUARDO Audiopinturas: Estructuras Verbales Para Voz (1972) LP
The work of Jorge Eduardo Eielson (Lima 1924 - Milán 2006) in the fields of visual and sound poetry has been conspicuously absent from the international anthologies pertaining to these disciplines. One of the reasons of this absence may be the limited circulation of this side of his broad and complex output as a poet and visual artist. In the past few years, though, this aspect of his work has become better known, and can now be seen, in its own right, as a valuable contribution to the development of experimental poetry. Jorge Eduardo Eielson called "vocal structures" or "audiopaintings" his experiments in vocal poetry, which were all based on combinatorial analysis and permutations. Of these experiments carried out over a period of five years (1972-1977), only one has remained, and its author has presented it on several public and private occasions, both in its recorded form as well as in live performances. It is the piece called Colores [Colors], which is based on the repetition of words that name colors: red, yellow, green, blue; each word has a different tonality. Colores is derived from the permutation of four word-tones, a work inspired by both serialist composition and conceptualism. Audiopaintings: Verbal Structures for Voice (1972) presents for the first time on vinyl the full version of Colores and adds a live recording of the piece performed in 1998. This album is published by Buh Records with the support of Proyecto AMIL, who have joined efforts to develop a collection dedicated to presenting fundamental Peruvian works that operate at the borders of visual arts and sound. The publication also includes a booklet with extensive liner notes by Luis Alvarado, with information on several dimensions of Eielson's relationship with sound poetry, thus becoming a reference album for scholars and collections on the art of voice and sound poetry.

FLORES, MIGUEL Lorca: Lost Tapes (1989-1990) LP
Buh Records present a new album by Peruvian composer and musician Miguel Flores. Lorca: Lost Tapes (1989-1991) recovers unpublished recordings made for stage works inspired by the life and work of the great Spanish playwright, Federico García Lorca. It is an atmospheric and minimalist album, where you'll find flamenco airs, Andean and Afro- Peruvian sounds, vocal experimentation, and various sound effects, all stitched together in a simple but creative studio montage, which turns these pieces into a dreamy landscape. A member of several rock bands in the Seventies, Flores began an intense period of sound experimentation towards the end of that decade, building a large archive that has remained unpublished. His experimental work became known internationally with the publication of Primitivo" (BR 068LP, 2015), which rescued unpublished recordings of 1983, only presented live at the time, and which represents a high point in the fascinating movement of Peruvian experimental music from the late Seventies and early Eighties, animated by such artists as Arturo Ruiz del Pozo, Manongo Mujica, and Luis David Aguilar. Andean and Amazonian sounds, ancestral evocations, coexisted with the instrumentation and musical resources of free improvisation, concrete and cosmic music. Lorca: Lost Tapes (1989-1991) is published for the first time, and in vinyl format, as part of the Essential Sounds collection, with which Buh Records presents a series of fundamental works of the Peruvian musical avant-garde.

GRUPPO DI IMPROVVISAZIONE NUOVA CONSONANZA Nuova Consonanza LP
When gazing over the expanse of 20th century avant-garde music, few European projects can claim the seminal importance of the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. Formed in Rome in 1964 and considered to be the first experimental composers collective, its membership included many of the most remarkable voices of its day: Franco Evangelisti, Ennio Morricone, Egisto Macchi, Roland Kayn, Frederic Rzewski, and many others. Creatively radical, rawing on jazz, serialism, musique concrète, and extended techniques -- breaking with the divisions that largely defined the global avant-garde scene, the Group sculpted a body of sound like nothing before or since. Over the last few years, numerous reissues and archival releases have brought their crucial contributions back into the center of the contemporary consciousness. Cinevox highlight the emergence of yet another crucial piece in the puzzle, the reissue of what is arguably the rarest artifact in their catalog: 1975's Gruppo d'Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. The collective's fifth full-length release, encounters the project at its sublime best. This incarnation features Macchi, Morricone, Evangelisti, Mario Bertoncini, Walter Branchi, Giovanni Piazza, and Jesus Villa Rojo, each masterfully responding and intervening within an expanse of sound where no one voice takes center stage. Delicate acoustic textures sculpt an endlessly surprising sense of tactile space, penetrated by percussive interventions and atonal squeals, each in their own way defying a concise image of source. Wildly intelligent, and yet feeling so natural that these interactions of sound might have simply always been or appeared, the album captures an archetypal vision of one of the most important groups in the history of the avant-garde -- a singular, and entirely new vision of improvisation and collaboration which laid the groundwork for a countless number of artists who followed in their wake. Fully remastered from the original tapes, which revealed a different sequence than the original Cinevox album. Moreover, "Settimino", the long track that opens the first side, has a completely different structure which can be listened here for the first time. Includes an exclusive 30x30cm, 12-page booklet with never seen before pictures and essays/texts which delve deep into the album. 180 gram vinyl; Edition of 400.

LEROYS, BRUCE Liberdade 12"
Cocada Music, a project which emerged as a diffuser of the musical talent present throughout Latin America, quickly spread its sounds to the four corners of the world, becoming a great initiative for electronic music. The label's first release as a record label is born with some respected artists and a beautiful story behind. The wonderful artwork was illustrated by the Brazilian artist Paula Dornelles, who dedicates herself to the production of experimental artworks, she was able to convey through all her creative potential the depth of the meaning present in the word "freedom", a small sample of Latin American talent also in the visual arts. On the album, who begins the work is the Brazilian duo, Diogo Vaille and Marcelo Abreu, aka Bruce Leroys, with "Liberdade" (Original Vocal Version), a rework of a classic MPB song. The artists managed to perfectly merge the melancholy voice present in the song with a deep and dense bass line, bringing all the emotion present in the lyrics, causing goosebumps. However, the duo isn't alone in this release. None other than Ricardo Villalobos has also left his trademark with a great remix, featuring fuller grooves and inserting multiple textures for the track.

LANDSTRUMM, NEIL Sun Universe 12"
Hot on the heels of "Flesh Is A Prison" -- the quirky, electronic wonderland he contributed to Cocoon's phenomenal S compilation (COR 046CD/LP, 2019) -- the multi-talented Neil Landstrumm consolidates his position on the label roster with a debut three-track EP that channels the uncompromising spirit of seminal UK labels like Network, Warp, and Vinyl Solution. It's clear from the first few seconds of "Sun Universe" that you're being transported back to '90s UK rave culture at a point where rave, jungle, and house were mutating into speed garage. Ruffness abounds as stuttering snare rolls accompany the rude boy bass, ragga samples and classic "hoover" synth riff, while peripheral sounds circle the groove adding a contemporary twist. Staying true to the times, the arrangement plays it straight, alternating between two distinct structures -- one labeled "jump up" and the other "spread out"! These timely juxtapositions of mood alone mean the track will blow up on any dancefloor. "Purple" continues in a similar vein, with a phat, warping bass line underpinning the blunted beats and dusty bleeps. Landstrumm rides the mix in classic old school style, cutting up the linear arrangement with sudden unexpected deviations, alternative rhythms, and layered melodies that lend a hidden complexity to the relentless groove. There's a different energy at work here, one that flies in the face of certain overcooked, modern production techniques, finding more in common with a raw, vintage Carl Cox three deck mix tape, circa 1989. To round things off, "Catnatized" drops the tempo for a slab of grimy, acid funk that recalls the early excursions of Sheffield's electronic pioneers, with a hint of embryonic Amsterdam house thrown in for good measure. Once again, the bass line grabs the headlines, rasping and morphing in its own peculiar language while twisted vocals tease the dancefloor with the logic of the absurd.

However, in the worldview of the collective all of these can be comprised into four elements: epic, fury, love, and drugs. A philosophical concept turned album. Four elements that define our surrounding, our taste and opinion-makers, our filter bubbles and echo-chambers. We all know and experience them when traveling through that fantastic space. Like turning from praise to hate, from excitement to sadness within a few clicks, so will the album take you on a journey through all these elements, all those feelings within the collectives mind-blowing productions. C.O.W. are back, but -- like content in the Internet -- they've always been there, you only needed to look for them. Features Jakob from Earth, Jake Masca, Masia One, Supa Mojo & General Ling, Dexter, Tahnee Matthiesen, Kid Simius, and Sola Plexus.

LUCIANI, ANTONINO RICCARDO Elettroencefalogramma LP
Elettroencefalogramma scans the full breadth of electronic composition by Italian musical mastermind Antonino Riccardo Luciani, who's perhaps best known for his library records, but on the showing here had a strong, prescient line in mind-bending, fathoms-deep experimental and academic work with tape and early, pre-synth devices. Awarded unprecedented access to polymath composer "Tony" Luciani's archive of inter-disciplinary work, Finders Keepers' Andy Votel follows his pressing of Maria Teresa Luciani's Sounds Of The City (FKR 093LP) with a first compilation survey of her sibling's vast catalog, newly issued via the Dead-Cert label he curates alongside Sean Canty and Doug Shipton. The set falls deep within the label's remit of reissued and previously unreleased work by overlooked and undocumented pioneers of 20th century sound, revealing a distinctive mix of material that nods to contemporary, tape music, neo-classical, jazz, electro-acoustic, and counterpoint composition. Drawn from original tapes recorded during the 1970s, Elettroencefalogramma spans the heyday of Luciani's work, before synth music was popularized. In this sense, it's worth noting Luciani's links with Teresa Rampazzi and the pioneering electroacoustic group NPS -- and namely Serenella "Serena" Marega -- with whom he shares a strong affiliation toward embracing the possibilities of new music at the dawn of an unprecedented sonic epoch. There's a sense of being in transition between worlds and eras in the opening blend of melancholy strings and bubbling electronic rhythm "Battery Farm", and likewise the cranky mixture of bestial growls and dissonance in "The Zoo", while the rattle-y rhythm of "Offices" uncannily recalls Trunk's recent issue of Mechanical Keyboard Sounds (JBH 084LP, 2019) from the modern day. But Luciani excels at quieter, introspective styles, as with the flute-led vision of "Desol 2", and most remarkably in the stygian, primitive drum machine pulse and clammy string drones of "Forest Of Chimneys", which is surely crying out for imagery of Satanic mills, while the rupturing tape of "Bombardment" sets him firmly in a lane of advanced Italian noise that connects him to Gruppo's Roland Kayn and Maurizio Bianchi. RIYL: Dapne Oram, Teresa Rampazzi, Daniela Casa, Roland Kayn, Maurizio Bianchi. Edition of 300.

ARCHETTI/BO WIGET, LUIGI Weltformat CD
Ending the decade of silence which followed more than ten years of remarkable, critically-acclaimed activity by the partnership of veteran experimentalists, Luigi Archetti and Bo Wiget, the duo returns with what may be their most ambitious effort to date, Weltformat, issued by Die Schachtel. Switzerland-based Luigi Archetti and Bo Wiget began collaborating in 1998, the fruits of which initially emerged as the critically heralded, three-part Low Tide Digitals series, released by Rune Grammofon between 2001 and 2009. Weltformat, like its predecessors, builds on decades of solo and collaborative efforts by its creators -- Archetti with famed Krautrock pioneers, Guru Guru, among many others, and Wiget with Werner Lüdi, Taku Sugimoto, Tetuzi Akiyama, and others. Sculpted from the intricate tonal interventions and responses of Archetti on guitar, mandolin, and electronics, and Wiget on cello, electronics, and vocals, across the album the duo constructs a remarkably diverse landscape in sound, folding touchstones of modern classical, free improvisation, minimalism, harsh noise, and ambient music, into a seamless, singular expanse. Clusters of tone and dissonance merge, collide, and abrade against drones, textures, and pulsing electronics, each element a representative voice of its creator, caught in an imagistic conversation beyond words, which feels as immediate and intuitive, as it does perfectly balanced and thoughtful. Weltformat, encountering Archetti and Wiget just past the 20 year mark of their collaborative partnership, bears the fruit of rigorous experiments in sound - an immersive, effortless form of sonic realism, built from the optimism and hope which lays at the root of the avant-garde. As beautiful, inviting, immersive, and slow moving, as it is challenging, destabilizing, and thought provoking.

Digitmovies release the complete edition original soundtrack by Riz Ortolani for the film Gegè Bellavita (aka "Genarino, hombre objeto femenino") for the absolute first time on CD. Riz Ortolani composed "Nun Me Scuccià", the brilliant and funky main theme sung in Neapolitan by the protagonist Flavio Bucci, which describes Gegè's laziness to work and his passion for women. This pleasant motif returns in an instrumental version, alternating with a recurring upbeat tarantella in a pop version, and a romantic love theme. Originally C.A.M. published only one single with two tracks (tracks 1 and 2). Digitmovies were able to access the masters in stereo from the original recording session, which allowed the label to use everything that had been recorded. The rustic atmosphere is often interrupted by dramatic and mysterious passages (which perfectly evoke the daughter's unhealthy relationship with her father), as well as baroque music in a pop arrangement. SPENCE, SONYA In The Dark / Sings Love 2CD
"For any female to make their mark in the male dominated music industry, prolonged success has always been a struggle, and back in the Sixties and Seventies, the challenge was even greater. Yet in this harsh environment, Sonia Pottinger proved time and again that talent and determination could overcome almost any obstacle, remaining one of Jamaica's leading record producers for two glorious decades. Unsurprisingly, Pottinger's High Note Records became a magnet for aspiring female talent during the golden age of reggae, with almost every female artiste of note looking to record for her esteemed label. Of these performers, Sonya Spence achieved significant success from the mid-seventies through to the dawn of the 1980s, securing a series of hit singles and two best-selling albums. Since then, both In The Dark and Sings Love have become sought-after collectors' items among a wide spectrum of music fans, with her 'Let Love Flow On' 45 proving a particular favourite among soul connoisseurs."

CAUSA SUI Vibraciones Doradas LP
2020 repress; LP version. Mint green vinyl. Each of these four epic tracks is a testament to the fact that Causa Sui have carved out a singular niche for themselves, where vintage Sabbath-isms are filtered through a distinctively post-modern ethos. Causa Sui's brand of rock conveys everything that's so great about fuzzed-out heaviness, yet there's something about it that makes the listening experience far from trivial. In stark contrast to the standards of the stoner/doom scenes, Causa Sui manage to be weighty and peaceful at the same; forceful, yet vulnerable, ecstatic yet thoughtful. On opener "The Drop", the band drives a thick John Bonham groove into Can-esque freeform ecstasy before liquefying the groove into a warm ocean of shoegaze-y guitars and wistful synths. On 11-minute centerpiece "El Fuego", they create a sonic river that seems be channeling Popol Vuh as much as Palm Desert stoner rock. And the closing title track can best be described as sounding like that Sonic Youth sludge-metal record that never was.

FERRARI, LUC Dialogue Ordinaire Avec le Machine / Sexolidad LP
An LP comprised of two stunning works composed by Luc Ferrari during the early 1980s, "Dialogue Ordinaire Avec la Machine" and "Sexolidad", released by the long standing Italian experimental imprint, Elica. Wild and wonderful, this one is absolutely essential for any fan of electronic avant-garde. Needing little introduction, Luc Ferrari is one the great figures in 20th century avant-garde and experimental music. Ferrari was a pioneer, who, for roughly half a century, continuously revolutionized the field of electronic and electroacoustic creative process. Leaving such a sprawling body of work in his wake, much remained unreleased at the time of his death in 2005. Labels and fans have been scrambling to catch up over the years since. Part of their long-standing dedication to Ferrari, dating back to the 1990s, Elica's latest LP, Dialogue Ordinaire Avec la Machine / Sexolidad, takes great strides toward illuminating the composer's remarkable range of diverse approaches to sound. Composed between 1982 and 1984, the first piece showcases Ferrari's interest in tape collage work and sampling, whereas the second piece is one of his less than traditional compositions for a traditional ensemble. "Dialogue Ordinaire Avec la Machine" describes the not so chance meeting between the artists (Ferrari helped by Yannick Gornet) and the mysteriously working machine (a sampler), between the curiosity, amusement, surprise, ineptitude and excitement of the musicians and the machine with its appeal, complexity, stubbornness and synthetic eruptions. A rollercoaster through exploration, seduction, observations, misunderstandings, purrs, moans, gurgles, whooshes, loops and mechanical rhythms from which Ferrari builds his own synthesized folklore, ending with one of the most unusual episodes in the composer's production, the rather graphically explicit and apocalyptic "Love Song With the Machine" (which, to make an unlikely comparison with younger artists, one could imagine the music of the New York duo Suicide mixed by Nurse With Wound's Steven Stapleton). "Sexolidad" is one of Ferrari's most seductive instrumental pieces, representing a journey over the body, in which tonalities and their mix create "a particular harmonic climate [...]" The curious concept and its musical composition result in an extremely enjoyable piece which is continuously intriguing, evocative, dauntless, persuasive and highly satisfying, exquisitely performed here by the Ives Ensemble. Includes 30x30cm four-page booklet with bilingual (French-English) versions of the integrated text from "Sexolidad" and the lyrics to "Love Song with the Machine". Gatefold cover; edition of 300.

Based now in Shanghai and Rome, they have not stopped their live performances all over the world in the last two years (Germany, Spain, Russia, UK, France, Italy, and recently Chile) with great success. The material was recorded between 2018- 2019. Cinética gives a twist to the line that the group has followed in their last albums, highlighted by a more elaborate sound. A less raw sound, but without losing the essence of EG: hypnotic rhythms and innovative industrial music, danceable and tribal sometimes. Certain songs like "Acoplamiento Internacional" and "Modulaciones", with Eastern and African voices, remember the classic LP Mekano Turbo (1988) that is considered as one of the best albums of EG. In Cinética, there are filtered and natural voices, broken, mechanical and industrial rhythms, synthesizers layers, percussion, noise, distortion, Mongolian chants... Esplendor Geométrico celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2020 and prepares special editions for that year. They have developed a unique style since 1980 that influenced many "industrial" musicians around the world, including the new trends of industrial techno.

NAS Stillmatic 2LP
"Few hip-hop artists have achieved the same level of critical acclaim and praise that 90s veteran and Queens native Nasir 'Nas' Jones has. Across his over 25-year career he has been ranked as one of the greatest rap performers and lyricists by MTV, The Source, and Complex, among other publications, all while selling over 30 million records worldwide, and releasing eight consecutive platinum albums. In particular, his 1994 debut Illmatic is hailed as a paragon of underground hip-hop, a turning point in East Coast rap's development, and one of the all-time greatest debut albums in general. Though Nas' artistic legacy is without question, it was not always the case; if Nas had flourished during the mid-90s, he had stumbled clumsily while transitioning into the 00's. After achieving universal praise via Illmatic and commercial success with its' follow-up It Was Written, Nas' next few releases were considered inconsistent and lackluster compared to the critical one-two punch they followed. During this time period he had abandoned the socially-conscious and philosophical topics that made him a critical darling in favor of more commercially viable gangsta rap. Though he maintained a chart presence for much of the late-90s, review scores began to dwindle, and his status among the hip-hop community was thrown into question. This would change in 2001 with the release of Nas' fifth studio full-length, which made the effort to re-establish him as a legitimate artist. Eschewing the pop-friendliness he'd found success with, Nas instead opted to return to the underground style he came up in, with tracks about American politics, ghetto life, and social upheaval. Perhaps sensing this need to return to his roots, he titled the album Stillmatic, a clear and present reference (and sequel of sorts) to Illmatic. The ploy worked perfectly; Stillmatic was hailed by critics as a stunning comeback, and a brilliant return to form, earning rave reviews from rap outlets such as The Source and HipHopDX as well as from more mainstream publications as The Rolling Stone and The Village Voice. Praise was heaped upon the complexity and introspective nature of Nas' lyrical content, the top-tier production from veterans like Large Professor, DJ Premier, L.E.S., and Trackmasters, and hard-hitting guest appearances from AZ, Mary J. Blige, and Amerie. Stillmatic would see release on December 18th of 2001, right as Nas was caught in the middle of a highly publicized feud with fellow New York rapper Jay-Z. As such, the record features one of the feud's most intense apexes in the form of its second track 'Ether', a ruthless Ron Browz-produced diss track. A response to Jay-Z's own diss 'Takeover', 'Ether' savaged the Brooklyn-native, accusing him of brown-nosing to get ahead, of plagiarizing earlier rappers such as Notorious B.I.G. and KRS-One, and dismissing his street cred. To this day 'Ether' is considered one of the best and most potent diss tracks ever recorded, a major turning point in the Nas/Jay-Z feud, a standout among the already critically acclaimed Stillmatic, and is even credited with boosting Jay-Z's career by proxy. DR. JOHN Babylon LP
Housed in a deluxe gatefold jacket; OBI. "After years of Wrecking Crew-grade session musicianship around Los Angeles, Malcolm John Rebbenack carved his own niche by the late 1960s with a distinct blend of psychedelic rock, boogie-woogie, and rhythm & blues. Taking the stage name Dr. John, The Night Tripper (later shortened to Dr. John), he developed a cult following with his music, heavily influenced by his home of New Orleans, and fascination with the voodoo religion, which was reflected in his elaborate stage shows. In 1968 he released his debut record Gris-Gris, which was not a commercial hit, but fascinated critics, and set him on an artistic path that would eventually lead to major mainstream success in the 1970s, and cement his reputation as a prominent curator and performer of the New Orleans sound. After Gris-Gris' release, Dr. John found himself in a strange and awkward position. The US was deep into the Vietnam War, and the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy were fresh in the public memory. On top of that, Dr. John was being pursued by various Los Angeles authorities for a handful of criminal offenses. It was, in his own words: 'a heavy time for me.' Much like Sly & The Family Stone's There's A Riot Goin' On, Dr. John's sophomore album Babylon would be a reflection of the chaotic and tumultuous time that he was living in. He and the band dove deeper into the voodoo-inflected psychedelic rock and R&B of Gris-Gris, while touching upon elements of free jazz and Captain Beefheart-style avant garde. As with his debut record, production was handled by the legendary Harold Battiste, and much of the same session personnel who performed on it returned for Babylon, including Plas Johnson on saxophone, Alvin Robinson on guitar, and backing vocals from Jessie Hill, Shirley Goodman, and Tami Lynn. Babylon stands out as one of Dr. John's most overtly political albums, and is a singularly murky and darkly entrancing record in his discography. A psychedelic swamp of apocalyptic lyrical content, drunk, disorienting experimentation, and a fascinating entry into Dr. John's catalogue well-worthy of his expansive legacy."

MSYLMA Dhil-un Taht Shajarat Al-Zaqum 2LP
A profoundly original record steeped in millennia of pre-Islamic (pagan) and Islamic theology and Arabic tradition, Dhil-un Taht Shajarat Al-Zaqum translates into "a patch of shade under the zaqum tree" and sees Myslma convey an ancient sense of existential angst via the contemporary prism of electronic music in his singular style of emo-R&B and weightless grime expression. Although entirely sung in a form of classical Arabic that even modern-day speakers may not comprehend, Msylma's impassioned delivery and intonation conveys the gravity of the album's themes in no uncertain terms, meaning that native and non-Arabic speakers alike will be absorbed by the album's emotional pull. Turning cues from a rich knowledge of pre-Islamic and Quranic poetry into a work of subversive literary fiction, Msylma charts a transition from a romanticized childhood, thru the rising self-awareness of adolescence, to problems with parents and the sardonic cynicism of adulthood, before looping back to childhood, and resolving with a burned-out, sore conclusion in an eternal here and now; effectively mulling ontological and existential themes that surely resonate with a lived human experience wherever you're listening from. Whether channeling a pained sort of R&B/soul spirit in the aching delivery and floating chords of opener "Inqirad (Rihab-U Dhakir)", singing from the midst of a weightless grime skirmish in "Min Bab AlKamal-i w AlDawam", or scaling the lofty heights of "Astaqi AlGhamam", no knowledge of the lyrics' meaning is required in order to immerse in and empathize with Myslma's music. But if you're the inquisitive type, maybe a quick Google translate of the track titles will offer more concrete pointers to each song's meaning and, in turn, open listeners to a world that's familiar yet beyond their immediate conception. This is an album that will stick in the mind long after the music stops playing, opening windows into parallel dimensions as fascinating and dramatic as the visions of Scott Walker, as haunting as Omar Souleyman's lamenting mawwals, or futuristic as Fatima Al Qadiri. Follows standout vocal work on Zuli's Terminal LP, The Wire's #2 Album of the Year in 2018 (UIQ 003LP). Design and layout by Jesse Osborne-Lanthier. Mastered by Al Carlson. Produced by the artist, Zuli, and 1127. Edition of 300; includes insert.

PHOENIX, WAYNE soaring wayne phoenix story the earth LP
Bit of an enigma this one, the debut release -- a decade in the making -- from an artist about which little is known, Wayne Phoenix. soaring wayne phoenix story the earth is a fascinatingly intimate yet elusive record honed over years by a trained pianist recording a kind of all-encompassing audio diary that is reminiscent of everything from Klein to Burial, to RZA's incredible Ghost Dog original soundtrack. After marinating in the archive while trends passed by, the fleeting stop/start collage of honest humility and ephemeral thoughts in story the earth resembles a time capsule of a former, or parallel, self; one the artist is only now at ease to come terms with. Vacillating moments of profound lucidity and penetrative pangs of anxiety, Wayne lays his soul bare in that most vulnerable way that can sometimes lead to great art, and finds himself in solid, empathetic company among Halcyon Veil's sensitively intuitive spirits such as Myslma, Mhysa, and of course, Rabit. One of those debuts that feels uncannily familiar on the first encounter, the album dredges a remarkable and unshakeable depth of feeling and human insight via its mazy tile of vignettes, drifting from softly textured, deep blue witching hour logic to more grizzled, Tricky-esque realizations and glossolalic expressions that practically, poetically say as much as his legible lyrics. In between, pockets of fractured music box melody and sorely textured beats flower and weed in the gaps, sounding something like RZA's Ghost Dog OST adapted from dilapidated NYC rooftops to the same drizzly London streets inhabited by Burial, Klein, and Mica Levi. Maybe best of all though, there's very little pretense to this record. It simply sounds like the artist is working out their feelings through music in an exposed, genuine way that doesn't matter if nobody else ever hears it. Wayne Phoenix's frayed, dreamlike tapestry of self-reflections are set to become part of our contemporary consciousness in 2020. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. One-sided LP; transparent yellow vinyl; edition of 300.

RYTE Ryte CD
Ryte's debut album is basically the result of an intense one-and-a-half-year writing process (late 2016-early 2018), which was definitely fueled by a very creative and communal spirit within the band. The album consists of four long tracks which were constructed and developed carefully over time. The flow came totally natural as every member participated equally and contributed their very own personal abilities. The album definitely pushes the boundaries of psych rock as it is influenced by countless styles of music, including doom, prog rock, jazz, and even world music. The sound is dominated by down-tuned, sometimes doomy, sometimes epic twin guitars, dynamic and jazzy drums, distorted, playful basslines and spacey Theremin landscapes. Even though vocals are rare they do exist and are done either by Lukas or Arik, while the lyrics refer to freaked-out sci-fi stuff. Production-wise Hannes himself took over the project and recorded the album at his own rehearsal space. Michael Piller did the mixing and none other than the underground producer-legend Tim Green mastered the album at Louder Studios in California. In mid-2016, Hannes, Arik, and Shardik decided to start a new project together. At that time, Arik and Shardik had already been playing several years together in Pastor and were looking for someone to jam with. By chance they met drummer Hannes at a Saviours show in Vienna. Shortly afterwards Ryte was founded. The only thing that was still missing was a bass-player. The band finally found the last missing part in late 2016 and was then a complete four-piece with Lukas on bass. They spent at least one intense year of continuous rehearsals and songwriting sessions in order to get a live-set and of course, an album together. Since day one, the band's goal was to play sophisticated, mostly instrumental heavy psych with little hints of classic prog, space rock, doom, and plenty of other stuff. Speaking of influences, the band is not limited by any means as long as it sounds fresh and interesting and does the band's initial idea of adventurous heaviness justice. For fans of: Danava, Hawkwind, Ha?llas, Horisont, Captain Beyond, Earthless, Joy, Iron Claw, Astra, King Crimson, Harsh Toke, Yes, Pentagram, Psicomagia.

RYTE Ryte LP
LP version.

VA The Roundup Part VI 12"
Heist Recordings are finishing their sixth year of the label with their annual potpourri of remixes with 2019's artists on The Roundup Part VI. There are a few really cool newcomers on the label like Demuir, Perdu, and Makèz, as well as label mainstays Fouk and Detroit Swindle delivering a great collection of remixes. The EP starts off with label heads Detroit Swindle giving their high-energy take on Fouk's "Need My Space". They've chosen for a stabby club version of the more introverted original, with different layers of synths building up alongside a pumping drum track and a punchy Moog bassline. Check the break for a nice dreamy broken beat section before the track comes back into full dancefloor madness. Makèz have only just released their well-received debut EP and now they're flanking Detroit Swindle on the A-side with their remix of Perdu's hit "Sacramento". They replace the broken beat vibe of the original and instead go for a 4x4 track with a driving bassline, warm pads and subtle placement of Perdu's original elements. On the B-side, we have Fouk reinterpreting Demuir's take on Detroit techno with their remix of "3nity returneth". Their version is a tom-heavy high-energy club track with a strong nod to the past, whilst still keeping that strong Fouk signature intact. They mangle the vocal sample in a drunk and twisted break before setting the track back on fire with an extra acid line for good measure. The B2 goes to Perdu's dreamy slow burning remix of Detroit Swindle's classic house bomb "Music For Clubs" featuring Lorenz Rhode. His version takes the tempo down and dials the dreamy level up a notch. A mellow but punchy acid line and worldly synth hits give this remix it's cool twist and it's a great showcase of Perdu's view on the broad world of house music. 2019's Roundup finishes with Demuir's trippy "Playboy Edit" of "Random Visits" by Makèz. He takes the vocal sample and layers it behind a haunting string, dreamy keys and a steady groove. It's got a funky vibe where Demuir's knack for a good groove fits perfectly with the fresh original.

BLAUE BLUME Lovable (Trentemoller Remix) 10"
10" white color vinyl. A new release this winter marks a landmark moment in an important musical story. Way back in 2009, the label hfn was born in Hamburg, and made its introduction to the world with the release of the Trentemøller compilation Harbour Boat Trips 01: Copenhagen (HFN 001CD). Founder Tobias Lampe wanted to start a label that was broader in scope than his previous, more electronic-focused projects, and the compilation provided the perfect opportunity to launch one. In the ten years since, the label has survived the whirlpool waters of the early 21st century's constantly changing music industry, and released everything from pop to art-punk, with artists ranging from New York to the Faroe Islands. Now, they're about to put out their 100th release. Fittingly, given the label's focus on new and innovative music, and the historic aspect of the release, hfn100 sees one of hfn's best songs of 2019 put into the hands of the man it all started with, Anders Trentemøller. His Danish compatriots Blaue Blume's new album Bell Of Wool (HFN 099LP) is one of hfn's standout releases from 2019, and so hfn100 sees Trentemøller remix one of that record's standout tracks, the fragile, but soaring "Lovable". In Blaue Blume's original, "Lovable" is an airy, tormented song, a gossamer-delicate composition that carefully stitches together layers and layers of shining synths that gradually build up and up into a peak, before crashing into a subtle beat, a musical journey that mirrors vocalist Jonas Smith's trip from anguish to numbness. Whereas the original's music sounds woven together from light, Trentemøller takes it into darker territory. He hooks the song to a harsh, sparse beat leaving Smith's vocals bare and isolated in the burnt-out, dystopic musical landscape he creates. Trentemøller mirrors the original's careful building up, adding new elements to fill in the song's sound, before it collapses into a tough, noir disco groove. It's a perfectly realized remix -- Trentemøller keeps the original song's skeleton and soul, but fills in the space with sonic touches that could be no one else's but his. Ultimately, it's a fitting song for hfn's hundredth release.

The seminal second album of Rone, Tohu Bohu from 2012, is at last back in stock in red, double-vinyl version. Including leftfield smash hits "Bye Bye Macadam", "Parade", and "Let's Go". The album has made Rone a cult figure in his own country, gracing the cover of one magazine after the other and being saluted by Trax magazine three times in 2012 (Best French Artist, Best French Album, and Best Music Video). French music legend Jean Michel Jarre has been effusive in his praise for the young man. His videos for "Parade" and "Bye Bye Macadam" have been picked up worldwide. His live performances during Tohu Bohu's tour have developed into a large-scale sound and vision show entitled "Module", bringing together the various video-makers (including Studio Fünf, Dimitri Stankowicz, and Valdimir Mavounia-Kouka) and stage technicians who have played a key part in defining Rone's visual identity. Tohu Bohu also revealed Rone's openness to experimentation, including a hip-hop inspired track with vocals from High Priest of Antipop Consortium ("Let's Go") and a beautiful collaboration with cellist Gaspard Claus ("Icare").

MARLETTA, LEONARDO Percussioni ed Effetti LP
Intervallo presents a reissue of Leonardo Marletta's Percussioni ed Effetti, originally released in 1983. As often happens in the case of library music albums, even in Leonardo Marletta's one and only record in his career, the titles serve above all as sound indications, as if they were listening guides. In Percussioni ed Effetti (Percussion and Effects) you find a vast array of atmospheres, well explained and illustrated by titles such as "Violenza" (Violence), "Guerriglia" (Guerrilla Warfare), "Allucinazioni" (Hallucinations), "Compulsion", "Battimenti" (Beats), "Sospensioni" (Suspensions), or "Apocalisse" (Apocalypse). All these nouns perfectly fit the mood of the record, which is entirely built on a painstaking work of acoustic and electronic percussions, deep reverbs, drums, cymbals, and hints of piano and organ scattered here and there. Contrary to what one might think, the final result is anything but scant or primitive and shows a spasmodic rhythmic and instrumental research, similar to those you find in some avant-garde jazz works. As Valerio Mattioli remarks in his book Superonda, quoting Marletta's Percussioni ed Effetti, "the moment when library music becomes more interesting is when it abandons any descriptive intent and decides to talk about nothing but itself: a sort of metamusic or 'music in music', an imaginary soundtrack for nothing." Edition of 300.

LUCIANI, ANTONINO RICCARDO Agonia della Civilta LP
Intervallo present a reissue of Antonino Riccardo Luciani's Agonia della Civilta, originally released in 1972. The great fame of Antonino Riccardo Luciani, a musician and composer from Palermo, is due above all to his work for television and to one in particular, namely the music for the Almanacco del giorno dopo (Almanac of the Coming Day), a famous program that has been broadcast on the first channel of RAI -- Italian Television for over twenty years. Chanson Balladée, the title, is for many people an indelible memory of a television now disappeared and radically changed, for which Luciani has often composed wonderful themes and soundtracks of great value as Tecnica di un colpo di stato (Technique of a coup d'état). Agonia della Civiltà (Agony of Civilization), on the other hand, is part of his more experimental and abstract works, such as Inchiesta sul mondo (Inquiry Into the World) or Desol, and reveals the less accommodating side of the Sicilian composer, at work with tense atmospheres, hammering percussions, musique concrète, magnificent orchestrations. and bitter reflections on society. Originally released in 1972, the album is paradoxically more relevant in these complicated times. Titles such as "Esodo di Popolazioni" (Exodus of Populations), "Catastrofe Sociale" (Social Disaster), "Disfacimento Ecologico" (Ecological Decay), "Metropoli in Agonia" (Metropolis in Agony), or "Dramma dell'Evoluzione" (Drama of Evolution) foretold our future almost fifty years in advance. "Sour" was featured in the acclaimed Wild Wild Country Netflix series in 2018. Music supervisor Chris Swanson about the track: "We were having a hard time finding a song for that scene, actually. We had a Future Islands track originally in that scene, I think, but I remember we were having a hard time getting the tone right... because there were objectives with regards to the narrative... we wanted a good beat, a sense of time but also conforming to the time. I think of all the songs [in WWC], the Void Vision song is the one that stands out... because it was different yet it sold the story that we were trying to tell." DISSEMBLANCE Over The Sand LP
Exploring the balances between pop song writing structures, '80s cold wave bedroom style electronic production, and dreary gloom rock, Paris-based Dissemblance presents her debut LP Over The Sand for Mannequin Records. Over ten tracks, Dissemblance treads the fringes of a blurred dream world, using her bass guitar, voice, and drum machine as the backbone to create haunting yet soothing pop atmospheres in her songs. The opener "Transfuge" maintains a focus on the bass guitar, while a sparse rhythm box and monotone vocal fuel unbreakable tension. "Rescue" continues centered around the bass playing, this time with more almost upbeat surf rock pop sensibility driving the track. The closer, "A Ride", takes shape with Boss DR-55 clicks, solemn, floating vocals, and a subtle bassline reminding us of some of Lifetones' finer moments. A welcome new addition to the Mannequin catalog, Over The Sand will appeal to fans of gloom-tinged electronic pop and even to optimistic goths around the globe. All songs written and produced by Mathilde Mallen in Paris, France. Mixed by Silent Servant in Los Angeles, California, 2019.

The indie pop side to the band is dramatically dulled down and instead the band offer up some of their raunchiest songs to date, dialing up the noise and combing it with raucous indie rock.

Recorded fast and loose over the summer, these eight tracks harness a pure and bare-boned energy, melodies subsumed by drum machines and synths; slow, rugged hedonism. "Nowhere To Run" was drafted by Javier Escovedo a long time ago while "In the Spotlight" is a recent composition and both songs retain the untamed yet melodic essence of The Zeros.

SMITH, CRAIG Sam Pan Boat/Race The Wind (Take 1) 7"
Mike Stax on the 7": "Craig Smith was a Southern California golden boy: smart, funny, good looking, gregarious and gifted. Success came easy to him in the 1960s, his winning smile flickering on TV screens across America, his songs recorded by The Monkees, Andy Williams, and Glen Campbell, and his band, The Penny Arkade (produced and mentored by Michael Nesmith) poised for the big time. But in 1968, after revelatory experiences with LSD and meditation, he walked away from the music business and set out along the Hippie Trail from Istanbul to India. Then tragedy struck. A horrific attack in Kandahar, Afghanistan triggered a complete mental breakdown, and when Craig returned to California he was not the same person. Craig Smith became Maitreya Kali, a self-professed psychedelic guru with a serious Messiah complex and black widow spider tattooed on his Third Eye. Maitreya laid out his bizarre vision on two brilliant albums, Apache and Inca, pressed up in tiny quantities in 1972 and now among the most sought-after psychedelic artifacts in the world. Written and recorded in 1969-70, 'Sam Pan Boat' is one of his most haunting and unerringly beautiful songs. The version here is remastered from the Inca album. 'Race The Wind' was sourced from a two-sided acetate demo recorded around 1968-69. Take 2 of the song was included on the album Love Is Our Existence (MAM 201CD/101LP, 2018). The slightly more vigorous Take 1 is being released for the first time here."

PIOTROWICZ, ROBERT Euzebio LP
Euzebio by Robert Piotrowicz does not fit any category. What this multi-colored electronic instrumentation aims to channel is the acoustic experience and energy of the performing musician. As a result of a wide range of creative means used, the narrative language of the compositions bursts with tension and mystery. The album includes slow hypnotic passages of stone electronics ("To Fleh"), vigorous tempos and circular repetitions ("Euzo Found Gitar"), sprawling artificial soundscapes, back-to-origins ethnicity (ethnical subsoil and elements) liberated from any geographical identity ("Ocarina Wars"), as well as dreamlike minimalism with unpretentious cinematographic traits ("Flares Et Wasser Hole"). Some of these unusual melodic patterns may resemble the corporality of the animal throat rather than any human-created instrument ("Electros Spong"). Although Euzebio was recorded with synths, the final shape of individual tracks and the album's overall acoustic image go far beyond any electronic genre. The instruments have not become a goal in itself. They were merely a building block, a tool that helped achieve the album's extended structure -- a diverse whole with rich spatial features.

SLUM VILLAGE & ABSTRACT ORCHESTRA Fantastic 2020 CD
"Live jazzy orchestral interpretations of the Jay Dee aka J Dilla produced Slum Village classic Fantastic Vol 2! The contributions of the late Detroit producer James DeWitt Yancey -- better known to the world as J Dilla -- to the world of hip-hop can't be overstated, and nowhere is his legacy more apparent than his work as a member of Slum Village. A founding member of the trio, (alongside rappers T3 and Baatin) Dilla provided the group's distinctly esoteric, free-wheeling sound, built around winding basslines, quirky drumbeats, subtle low-end frequencies, and classic jazz & soul samples. Against the backdrop of Dilla's rich production, T3 and Baatin's free-flowing style of rhyming would also earn wide critical praise, leading to comparisons as the successors to A Tribe Called Quest. All these elements would come together in a truly prodigious fashion in the early '00s, when Dilla and Slum Village would release their second studio album Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2. The group had already made critically acclaimed waves with Volume 1, but few could have predicted at the time of its release that Dilla's production, which combined portions of alternative, gangsta, and soul hip-hop, meshed with T3 and Baatin's deft lyrical flows, would become such a far-reaching influence. Artists like D'Angelo and Erykah Badu have name-checked Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2 as a key influences, while The Roots' drummer ?uestlove declared that they hands down '...birthed the neo-soul movement.' Enter the Abstract Orchestra. Helmed by composer and saxophonist Rob Mitchell, this 18-piece ensemble has become renowned for their distinct sound, which reinterprets some of the most famous hip-hop productions of all time (right on down to the sample material) into a unique blend of big band jazz and live hip-hop. The group has toured alongside the likes of John Legend, Amy Winehouse, and Adele among others, and have provided live backup for Mos Def, and many more. They previously have released orchestral versions of revered hip-hop record Madvillian and a tribute to Dilla to critical acclaim as well. On this, the 20th anniversary of Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2's release, the Abstract Orchestra are proud to pay tribute to this highly innovative hip-hop classic. Across two volumes of vinyl and a 2-CD set of studio recordings, the big band applies their own jazzy spin to Dilla's classic productions, with occasional assistance from the surviving members of Slum Village themselves. The end result is Fantastic 2020, a hybrid blend of smooth, funky brass rhythms with boom-bap sensibilities that is just the kind of tribute that an often unsung, but highly influential group like Slum Village deserves, and is a more than welcome addition to any Dilla completist's library."

JUJU Live At The East 1973 LP
"Now-Again Records presents limited edition deluxe reissues of the lauded black fire catalog in 2020. First up in the series, this previously unreleased live session recorded at the legendary Brooklyn venue The East in 1973. Magical, mystical, Afrocentric, progressive -- words that could be used to describe any number of musical compositions by Sun Ra or his cosmic brothers and sisters, from John to Alice Coltrane, early '70s projects on record labels like Detroit's Tribe or Houston's Lightin' or the interests of one Washington, DC native named Jimmy Gray that centered under one, perfect moniker: Black Fire. Gray spent nearly three decades pushing boundaries as a Black American promoter, distributor and, finally, record label owner. Together with Juju's leader James 'Plunky Nkabinde' Branch, Gray oversaw sixteen releases on Black Fire Records between 1975 and 1996. These are the definitive reissues of five of the label's key titles; all were lacquered -- most directly from master tape -- by legendary Los Angeles mastering engineer Bernie Grundman. With this set, Juju and Black Fire's story burns forth into its fifth decade, its message not tempered, its sound pure. It's cycle, once again, complete. Each release is packaged in a thick, tip-on sleeve and includes a deluxe booklet with extensive notes on the album, the Black Fire collective, and the musical and cultural revolution they created. "A Laxe Modularys 2.049 is the new album (third after the Kosmos CD) of the pioneering UVEGRAF project, alias of the Madrid musician Juan Teruel. His cassette label and productions played a very important role in the Spanish 80s electronic underground scene. In our opinion, the new album surpasses Sala de Maquinas, the previous vinyl. More solid and regular, it really has the spirit of the 'old school' of the eighties with elements of minimal synth, post-industrial music, and even influences of '70s German electronic music. The ten tracks made primarily with sequencers, synthesizers, and analog rhythm boxes, stand out for their bright and powerful sound. We must mention the outstanding sleeve design by Alonso Urbanos who has been working with industrial groups such as Esplendor Geométrico for some years now." --Andrés Noarbe-Rotor Translucent green vinyl; edition of 300.

SKELETON CREW Learn to Talk LP
ReR Vinyl present a reissue of Skeleton Crew's Learn to Talk, originally released in 1984. A true avant-rock classic. Skeleton Crew were the maverick duo of Ex-Henry Cow guitarist Fred Frith and the great late cellist Tom Cora. Formed during one of Frith's early American residencies, Skeleton Crew was a legendary two-man crew who somehow -- in real time, managed to play all their instruments, cello, bass, electric guitar, violin, vocals -- as well as, drum parts dislocated between the two of them. No one sounded like Skeleton Crew, ever. An unprecedented and tight duo coalition that produced some of the best music of the decade. Originally released in 1984, Learn to Talk consists of a highly integrated mixture of art-rock, punk energy, tape manipulation, and re-imagined folk elements. A catalog of invention that remains breathtaking today. Fully re-mastered and including a printed inner sleeve with previously unpublished text by Fred Frith in memory of Tom Cora on the 20th anniversary of his premature passing.

PICCHIO DAL POZZO Abbiamo Tutti I Suoi Problemi LP
ReR Vinyl present a reissue of Picchio dal Pozzo's Abbiamo Tutti I Suoi Problemi, originally released in 1980. One of the most original, impressive and highly respected of all the experimental groups to have come out of Italy in the 1970s, Picchio dal Pozzo were also one of the early invitees to the canonical Recommended Sampler, and would have been in RIO, had RIO lasted another year -- and had the group not folded up and disappeared before anyone had realized it was there. In the last decade the record was reissued briefly in Japan, then It disappeared again. Here is is, remastered and back into the public domain where it belongs. Copying no one, though, there is some Zappa influence, Picchio had a unique and highly developed style of composition that was not only out of step with its own time but which sounds contemporary still. Highly composed and devoid of jazz phrasing and riffs with solos, this record achieves maximum musical effect with minimum instrumental means through close attention to timbre, dynamics, and expressed tempi and a kind of deep complexity that sounds simple but changes with each listening. A lot of ideas subtly developed -- rather than experimented with; a one-off classic. 180 gram vinyl.

Water Messages On Desert Sand was the very first sound creation from the Italian avant-garde duo of Roberto Musci and Giovanni Venosta. A classic work in the genre, released by Chris Cutler's Recommended Records in 1987. Back in the mid-eighties, Musci and Venosta, both on sampler, synthesizer, guitar, piano, effects, and tapes were masters in overlaying and constructing rhythmic and harmonic pictures of transparent sound from electronic, acoustic, and documentary source, taking ethnic field recordings (from Africa, Indonesia, Asia, India) as their thematic center. Water Messages finds place in the realm of Eno and Byrne's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (1981) but far more accomplished and developed. VA Refraction Vol. 4 12"
If you've encountered Titonton Duvante's Residual Recordings over the years, then you'll be all too aware of their ability to conjure up genuinely thrilling and thought-provoking electronic works. Indeed, while he's best known as a DJ/producer in his own right, Duvante's own A&R skills are impressive, with Residual counting on everyone from Fym to Boo Williams to Garrett David over the years. As with their last various artist collection, the label owner has done another expert job at rounding up some great troops here, with four emerging producers delivering the goods courtesy of Refraction Vol. 4. It starts with Rukka's "Stellar Radiation". Full of zippy, nimble synths, and clever cowbell sounds, "Stellar Radiation" is a brilliantly constructed slice of intergalactic funk that brings the rabbit role in some style. Teakup's "Believe" is a more stuffy, techno-focused cut, the likes of which has been produced in a unique, urban-influenced vein. Miscellanea I on the Is / Was label, it's another reminder of the Ohio native's undoubted talents. Sepehr's "Exit Your Body" plays out like a vintage cut from The Martian. Loaded with funk and soul motifs and characterized by its 808 sounds, this is techno of a real swagger and panache. Deep but brilliantly catchy, it's indicative of the label at its very best. It's then left to Italian producer Pressure Point to see you out, a task he fulfils in some fashion thanks to "So Far So Good". Another track with its roots in classic sounds, it too maintains a sort of contemporary edge.

Henry Kaiser is an American guitarist, composer, label founder, photographer, and professional diver. He appears on more than 250 albums, including collaborations with the likes of Fred Frith, Richard Thompson, David Lindley, Wadada Leo Smith, Derek Bailey, Jim O'Rourke, and numerous others. In 2017 he initiated and produced the two Sky Music albums (RCD 2194CD/RLP 3194LP, RLP 2195LP), both tributes to Norwegian guitar legend Terje Rypdal. Ivar Grydeland is a Norwegian guitarist and composer, most known from the trio Huntsville (Rune Grammofon, Hubro) and Dans Les Arbres (ECM, Hubro, Sofa). He has recorded and performed with a number of musicians including Nils Petter Molvær, David Sylvian, Tony Oxley, Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, and Paul Lovens. He has released two solo albums on Hubro. The two guitarists first met in an Oslo studio in January 2019. Having admired each other's work for some time, they decided right there and then to record a guitar duet collaboration specifically to create a soundtrack for a classic Norwegian silent film. They spent 30 minutes setting up to record and Kaiser suggested a short test recording to one of the less likely candidates, Roald Amundsen's 1925 documentary Ellsworths flyveekspedition 1925. One hour and fifty-six minutes later, they set down their guitars and shook their heads in wonder. They had played for the entire length of the film without breaks, in the process creating a complete score for the film. The Norwegian explorer was a key figure of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. In 1911, he led the first expedition to the South Pole, and is proven to have been the first to reach the North Pole in 1926. Across the Arctic, traditions of shamanism endure among the Inuit. A vision of the Arctic outside of mundane history, yet common in human polar experience, exists in "time out of time" or "everywhen", during which the land is inhabited by figures of heroic proportions. Amundsen and his colleagues were just such figures. Grydeland and Kaiser seemed to have entered into a kind of Arctic Dreamtime as they conjured this film soundtrack into existence; playing in real time with the film. Their guitar improvisations explore historic events, and invoke those heroic figures of the far north, illuminating both Norwegian history, and shamanic time outside of history, through music.

One friend. Two bands. And so it was that Manchester's Easter and London's Bromide met in their mutual pal Dave Armes's address book (of Last Harbour, LCR Records, and A-Sun Amissa sidekick repute). Soon after Easter were on their way down t'smoke to play at Bromide's place, namely the Birds Nest in Deptford. And verily did they smash it! So much so that Bromide singer Simon immediately thought about putting something out on his Scratchy Records label. And why not keep the threads twisting and make it a joint release! Especially as both bands share a love of alt. sounds from across the pond back in dem '90s days. Easter feasting on Buffalo Tom's heavier riffs, Yo La Tengo and San Francisco's "Swell", while Bromide reminded Easter's mainman Tom of "Nada Surf and Big Star and that New Zealand power pop stuff..." So the split-single was born. Easter taking the A with "Doubt Rings", a propulsive guitar-lashed gallop thru the relationship forest with Bromide on the AA offering "I'll Never Learn" from last 2018's I Woke Up album on Scratchy (SCRATCHY 050CD/LP), an up/downbeat reflective tale that dries solid on the choruses when the fuzz kicks in.

Originally issued in '94 on Ohio's 21/22 Corporation, this 2020 "Paranoid" version (by Youandewan) interpolates elements of the original and "217" by Brooklyn-Berlin transplant Velasco, courtesy of Bologna-based label, DAT. On Side B, Underlying Form boss Darren Allen serves up a slice of his nonconforming minimal-madness alongside fellow Discobar comrade, Robin Ordell, who brings an energetic, machine-driven jam reminiscent of his recent outings on Subsequent and Domesticated.

MOVE D & BENJAMIN BRUNN Let's Call It A Day 2x12"
Can music be classic and contemporary at the same time? Can it contain a secret genetic code in which the summary of the past, the present pulse, and the future view are hidden? Be ahead of its time and not lose relevance along the way? Let's Call It A Day, the first album collaboration of German authors Move D (David Moufang) and Benjamin Brunn, proves it is not only possible hypothetically, but can also live amongst us. First appearing on a CD via Bine Music in 2006, it is now remastered here by Calyx and on vinyl for the first time ever. This is a complete piece built from seven sections, each one is a microcosm of unique textures, depth, ambience, emotions, programming, looping, and melodic rules; together they are a homogenous creation, a symphony that culminate in dance music experiencing elevation. Let's Call It A Day, which in a way is the big brother of Songs From The Beehive (SMALL 001CD/LP) -- their exhilarating installment for Smallville from 2008 -- is an album above the Zeitgeist. The way Moufang and Brunn fuse different genres together without committing to any musical doctrine, makes them appear prophetic. However, it is in no sense a retrospect feeling; even at the time it was clear that the perceptions, experience, vision, and delicacy of this album were outstanding. Every element here, every frequency, rhythm, turnaround or keyboard tapping, is the material from which masterpieces are made of. From the opening meditative, ever-evolving loops of "On The Magic Bus" to the abstract drones of "Grains" with its almost nonexistent bass drum -- like it was aimed to hit the ambient-house craze; through the mesmerizing dubbiness of "A", which sounds like a rave ending in an echo chamber and the constant micro-movement of the arpeggios in the title track; "?", which sounds like a soundtrack for a sinking submarine footage and the ambient downbeat of "C-Sick", which melts your heart from within; and finally the closer -- the fragile and elegant beauty of "Magnetically Leviated Train". More than 76 minutes of diving constantly deeper and deeper. This new remastered version will feature a brand new and extra glossy Stefan Marx gatefold cover, that will give the perfect visual expression of the album's timeless music. And If there was ever a downside to Let's Call It A Day, it would be its lack of a vinyl edition. Well, this is exactly what's being sorted out now, isn't it? Gatefold cover.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND Trout Mask Replica 2LP
2020 repress, limited. "Trout Mask Replica is a touchstone in the history of recorded music. The mix of dada absurdist blues and previously unexplored experimental avenues has long been praised as one of the greatest albums of all time. As so eloquently put by John Peel, 'If there has been anything in the history of popular music which could be described as a work of art in a way that people who are involved in other areas of art would understand, then Trout Mask Replica is probably that work.' In full partnership with the Zappa Family Trust and to celebrate the relaunch of the seminal Bizarre label imprint, Third Man Records is proud to announce Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's Trout Mask Replica. Out of print on vinyl for nearly ten years, this remaster was helmed by industry legend Bob Ludwig and cut by the estimable Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Utilizing crystalline-quality safety masters kept in the Zappa family vault for decades by the trustworthy Joe Travers, the audio here is positively glorious. Every last skronk breathes full life into the room. Every twisted guitar figure uncurls onto paths previously unpaved. Every last bark and howl shines resolute through the vast emptiness of your mind. Previous countless Trout Mask Replica repressings used scans of scans of scans of the cover image, but the original Cal Schenkel cover photo has been tracked down and reproduced here at its clearest -- its resolution from the original release in 1969. If you've only ever seen a jpg online or fuzzy, smeared-looking CD issues from the 90's, be prepared to be wowed by the fully engaging spectrum this iconic image casts. This 2xLP is pressed on heavyweight 180-gram black vinyl for that full-on frenetic feeling. 180g vinyl, gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket, booklet insert."

NIGHTINGALES No Love Lost 2LP
Tiny Global Productions present the vinyl debut of The Nightingales' No Love Lost. In 2012, Martin Goldschmidt, recognizing both the band's genius and the commercial struggles their unique sound engendered, saw to it that Cooking Vinyl released it as a CD, rightly regarding it as an act of public service. Martin and Cooking Vinyl allow Tiny Global Productions to the release of the album to raise money for what will be the busiest period in the band's history, with a plethora of projects on the way. Originally released only on CD, it's too long to fit on a single LP. So, Tiny Global Productions added five tracks recorded back then -- cover versions of songs by Joanna Newsom, TLC, The Lovely Eggs, and two by The Troggs -- none of which have ever been issued on any physical format -- and turned it into a double vinyl album. Whatever profit is made after production costs will fund the Nightingales' eventual American trip to support the release of the documentary film about them, King Rocker. There they'll play a few incredibly rare American dates here, followed by the usual conquest of the UK and Europe. Playing the States is cost-prohibitive. Performance visas alone cost many thousands of dollars, not to mention flights, hotels, lots of petrol, backline rental, you name it. America is a big, scary land, each moment fraught with unexpected calamities, grotesque and unpleasant oddities, hidden dangers -- there is an ever-present risk that Robert will get "cut" in a vicious bar fight, or Andi sold into slavery and forced to pick berries in the blistering heat of West Texas. Gatefold sleeve featuring another classic David Yates collage, smashing in its 12x12" glory. It's also the recorded debut of the superb Kitson/Schmid rhythm section. Edition of 500.

MANGABEY & KOSMO KINT Time No More/Get Lost 12"
New York vocalist Kosmo Kint joined the Toy Tonics crew. Born in Trinidad and raised in New York City, Kosmo has been part of the recent Brooklyn scene, singing in several projects in NYC before moving to Berlin two years ago. To find like-minded people to create new lyrics driven dance music. In Berlin he teamed up with the Toy Tonics boys and now TT boss Kapote and the crew are working with him in Berlin Kreuzberg to find a new R&B and disco influenced style of electronic dance music. The first release is a collabo between French talent Mangabey and Kosmo Kint, produced by Kapote. The two songs have a chilled L.A. G funk vibe that makes you think about certain Dr. Dre productions from the '90s combined with some broken beats and four-to-the-floor house vibes. The song might remember some French touch tracks too and some might think about that West London early 2000 "Dego" vibe maybe. Anyway, its new and there is not a name yet for that style.

BEAU BRUMMELS, THE Introducing The Beau Brummels LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Introducing The Beau Brummels, originally released in 1965. Despite borrowing the name of a historic English dandy and drawing from the sound of The Beatles, influential beat group The Beau Brummels was formed in San Francisco in 1964, when Italian-American singer Sal Valentino needed a backing band for a nightclub residency; Sal brought childhood friend Ron Elliott on board as guitarist and chief songwriter, who drafted bassist Ron Meagher, drummer John Petersen, and rhythm guitarist Declan Mulligan. Signing to the newly-formed Autumn Records through their manager's media connections, their early recording sessions, produced by future funk hero Sly Stone, yielded the monster hit "Laugh Laugh", which peaked at number 15, despite being issued by a small independent; it is widely cited as a forerunner to the San Francisco Sound that emerged later in the decade. Follow-up hit "Just A Little" soon cracked the top-ten, both tracks helping debut album Introducing to reach the top 25 on Billboard's album charts. Licensed by HHO, UK.

Recorded in a brief session that lasted for some nine or ten hours, debut album Ask Me No Questions features Martyn on second guitar on opener "To Be Without A Hitch" and the equally chilling "Curl Your Toes", as well as the haunting title track, while future Fairport Convention and Soft Machine member Ric Sanders appears on "Lizard Tongue Boy" and "Many Happy Returns". A subsequent move to the San Francisco Bay Area brought an extended stay at an Indonesian martial arts ashram, which led to the Valley of the Birds, a remote avian haven in which the duo produced Sound Trek, an incredible space rock long-player drawing on their immersion in fantasy realms, sci-fi, martial arts, and UFOs. SOULS OF MISCHIEF 93 'Til Infinity 2LP
2020 repress. "There are very few albums across any genre that stand the test of time better than 93 'Til Infinity, the classic debut record from the Hieroglyphics crew's very own Souls of Mischief. In an era where gangsta rap and G-Funk dominated the West Coast rap scene, Souls broke ground on a completely unique and thoroughly west coast sound. While the Dr. Dre's and the Snoop Doggs were garnering much of the mainstream attention, Souls were quietly forging a charismatic, critically acclaimed, and cohesively shaped record that when categorized, sounded much closer to A Tribe Called Quest than N.W.A. The sound of their debut is characteristic of the distinct style explored by the collective, including a rhyme scheme based on internal rhyme and beats centered around a live bass and obscure jazz and funk samples."

Next comes Italian break-beat maestro Sofa Talk with a rhythmically sophisticated yet deep "ALBA", much in the vein of earlier Plastic Garment releases. Munich house duo Rhode & Brown starts the B side with "You & Me" building intricate synth arpeggios over catchy chords. St. Petersburg's very own Dices closes things off with his more dreamy and at the same time incredibly complex and beautiful "See You There" -- a track for the listener or the later hours of the night.

K2 Hepatopolitika LP
Japanese sound artist Kimihide Kusafuka, better known as K2, originally came onto the scene in 1981, in order to explore the possibility of noise. The activities at that time were only the creation of cassette works and actions in the world of mail art with no live performance. A few years later, he suspended his music activities to concentrate on his studies and returned in 1993 after having just graduated as a pathologist. K2 perceives no alteration between the act of making noise and the act of science and he practices a kind of alchemy through his noise. Hepatopolitika, an ultra-rare work released in 1994 on transparent vinyl by German label Praxis Dr. Bearmann in only 125 numbered copies, represents in an exemplary way the idea just expressed. He sets one's sights of metamorphosize himself with both the awareness he gets from his scientific experiments and the emotional strength he obtains from performing and listening to noise. The work is essentially a cut-ups noise oriented in its most exhausting form and in its rawest form. The sound is exceptionally lo-fi; the actual aggression of sound deconstruction in both sides leaves you astonished and consists in amazing assemblage of crashing, creaking, and scraping sounds made with pieces of junk metal plus concrete music and voice, edited in a jarring, unpredictable style. 140 gram black vinyl; black inner sleeve in a deluxe black cardboard sleeve with logo in silver silk screen plus obi that include art collage from original vinyl label; Edition of 199. ATRAX MORGUE Autoerotic Death LP
Marco Corbelli's artistic journey began in the early '90s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in A5 format. The first was The Pleasure Agony, followed by Sick and Murders. The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that will follow Marco Corbelli throughout his artistic career: sadism, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly death. In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, he began his musical activities creating the Slaughter Productions label and the Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian power electronics act The Sodality, with their 1987 LP Beyond Unknown Pleasures and from projects as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape In search of death which will be followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the following years. In 1996, with the only help of his analog synthesizer Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, Marco Corbelli recorded four tracks of pure improvisation for the legendary noise label BloodLust! run by Mark Solotroff. The tracks are released in cassette with the title of Autoerotic Death and limited to 50 copies. The putrescence is palpable, and one could almost smell and taste the miasma of decay that pervades the entire work. The psychopathological sound is white, painful and horrific. Crosses terrifying rooms lit by neon lights, corridors filled with gruesome tools, machines of blood and bits of human tissue floating in jars of formalin. The hum of the synth is often repeated loops, where each track has a compact structure, following the main theme (of autoerotic death). 140 gram vinyl; black inner sleeve and comes in a deluxe black cardboard sleeve with logo in silver silk screen plus double side pictures (from original tape cover art) fixed on front cover LP and a small insert; Edition of 199.

CONTROLLED DEATH Ritualistic Mutilation in the Bloody Darkness 2LP
Controlled Death is the dark side project by the Japanese noise legend Maso Yamazaki, aka Masonna. In April 2018 he decided to make a shudder debut with first album Symphony For The Black Murder (UMA 125CD) then followed at the beginning of 2019 from second work in an astonishing black wooden box that included Journey Through A Dead Body on vinyl and Deathwish Tapes 1-3 on CD and double-tape (UMA 130LP). Now there's yet another mind-boggling work on double-LP recorded during 2019, Ritualistic Mutilation in the Bloody Darkness. Wild and amazing, this one is absolutely essential for any fan of synth and dark ambient music. Cracked minimal electronic sound by Korg MS-20, unclear and disturbing voice with the influence of primitive black metal and dark ritual in this new double-album which developed a moisturized doom world while wearing a raw material texture. While listening to the records, each long track does meander their way slowly through proceedings with silent pauses, but they nonetheless generate a respectably dense assemblage of sounds. The smell of death is soaked in every groove produced by the four vinyl sides. The activities of Controlled Death are like archaic revival to the music experience before Masonna. You can also find the pathology image of the early industrial period and the shadows of Vienna activism such as Hermann Nitsch as well as loose bits of seminal black metal. The existence and art that pierces through conspicuous consciousness and dives to areas of unconsciousness due to death and pleasure. 140 gram vinyl; deluxe gatefold sleeve with impressive photography (of a cave church with the remains of the people who were massacred by the Saracens in 999 A.D. during the invasion of southern Italy) by Aldo Volpe. INCAPACITANTS Project Pallo '85 3LP BOX
Urashima present a reissue of Incapacitants' Project Pallo '85, originally released in 1985 by Pariah Tapes. The first ever vinyl reissue of one of the most sought-after artifacts from the '80s noise scene, fully remastered edition by Andrea Marutti. It's a great moment for reissues of ambitious, historical gestures of the noise from Japan. One after the other, these artifacts have emerged from the shadows. Few projects can claim the seminal importance of the Incapacitants on worldwide noise scene. The group was formed in 1981 in Osaka, as the solo project of Toshiji Mikawa, a member of the amazing noise group Hijokaidan. Mikawa, a bank employee who then became a deputy general manager of one of the largest securities brokers in Japan, later moved to Tokyo, where he joined with government office worker. Fumio Kosakai (also an occasional member of Hijokaidan as well as a former member of C.C.C.C.) was recruited to make Incapacitants a duo. They've been making some of the most unremittingly ear-shattering racket for decades as Incapacitants, one of the most significant noise outfits to emerge from the groundbreaking Japanese scene in the early 1980s, and still one of the most radical and powerful. They've consistently been responsible for some of the most complex, chaotic, loud, and downright fun releases in the genre. In the early '80s when based in Osaka, Mikawa occasionally performed as Incapacitants as part of various duets, most notably with Yamatsuka Eye of Hanatarash and Boredoms, and set up the Pariah Tapes label in order to release the first Incapacitants material. Starting from 1981 with Eternal Paralysis and Peony Crackers until 1985 with Project Pallo '85 that was produced on the label in triple-cassette and handmade box. About two-and-half hours divided in seven long tracks of just pure, unadulterated electronic distortion done by one of the masters. Fun, terrifying, hypnotic, and fascinating all at the same time; his noise takes root not in violence or gimmickry, but in uncontaminated energy. Triple-LP on 140 gram vinyl; deluxe grey wooden box with front/back laser engraving plus three cardboard colored in 30x30cm from the original box cover art, original dragon drawing by Takuya Sakaguchi used for artwork box and original insert; edition of 299 (numbered).

I MARC 4 Thrilling Mortale LP
Welcome to the third instalment in Vampisoul's series dedicated to the original Italian library music from the vaults of Nelson Records. In this album, the label digs deeper into the most experimental recordings in the archives of Nelson Records. The label was founded in 1970 by the musicians Maurizio Majorana, Antonello Vannucchi, and Roberto Podio (who along with Carlo Pes would be known as I Marc 4), after establishing the Telecinesound studio, right where the New Italian Library Sound was created. They recorded with Armando Trovajoli, Piero Piccioni, Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani, Henry Mancini, and many others, and created a special sound, mixing jazz, pop, rock, and psychedelic music, to produce records aiming to be used by the programmers of the Italian RAI television. The music of Thrilling Mortale is mostly special effects, drum breaks, fast bongo rhythms, and groovy Hammond background sounds inspired by cinema noise experts who did not use any musical instruments and had only a few objects to recreate the noises of the films; from horse rides to closing gates, everything was done in the traditional way. I Marc 4, instead, would recreate those sounds with bass, guitar, drums, piano and Hammond organ. Many musicians, record producers and film directors still like, look for, rediscover and re-use for their work, and the music on these albums recorded by I Marc 4 between 1970-1976 have reached cult status among library music collectors.

VA America Invertida CD
Synth ambiences, acoustic landscapes, deep songwriting, and subtle candombe percussions combine in most of the musical output released in Uruguay during the '80s. A very unique sound was developed within the narrow boundaries of Montevideo, the country's capital city, by just a small group of very talented artists. These sounds reverberated in singer-songwriting (Eduardo Darnauchans, Fernando Cabrera, Estela Magnone), jazz fusion approximations (Hugo Fattoruso's La Escuelita), experimental music (Leo Maslíah, Hugo Jasa), and the work of musicians at the intersections of these worlds (Jaime Roos, Mariana Ingold). In América Invertida, ethereal vocal arrangements and acoustic guitars cohabit with synthesizers and drum machines; Candombe and Latin American music form a fellowship with new wave and dream pop. However, the overwhelming musical harvest produced by giant neighbors, Brazil and Argentina, shadowed any attempt for this scene to transcend beyond the local market. It's only now, a few decades later, when some of those records have achieved cult status among a discreet group of collectors that try hard to get hold of those titles, pressed in only tiny numbers at the time. No wonder, the timeless beauty of these songs remains in full effect while retaining the uniqueness of a sound resulting from multiple cultural encounters on the streets of Montevideo. This compilation, América Invertida, reveals part of this hidden world. It veers towards the most experimental side of Uruguayan singer-songwriting of the '80s, both from an acoustic and electronic point of view (with artists who moved between both universes) as well as towards instrumental fusion. A collaboration with Montevideo based label Little Butterfly. Compiled by Spanish DJ and collector Javi Bayo. Extensive liner notes by Uruguayan journalist and music expert Andrés Torrón. Also features Contraviento, Jaime Roos Y Estela Magnone, Eduardo Mateo, and Travesía.

LIOSBER Constrictor: Redeemer LP
Black metal from Denmark. "Liosber is a band of Danish black metal veterans (who include members of Horned Almighty), a project that has been fermenting for the last five years in the shadows and now has come to fruition in the form of a four-track EP named Constrictor: Redeemer. The songs are also multi-faceted as well as packed with memorable hooks, veering from the sound of grand conflagrations into doom-stricken scenes of plague-driven fear and wailing grief, or of black incantations being woven in the ether . . . It won't take you long to realize that Liosber's song-craft is of a high order, as are their performances. It's entirely believable that the members are veterans." --no clean singing

MACCHI, EGISTO Fauna Marina LP
A reissue of Egisto Macchi's Fauna Marina, originally released in 1972. At the end of the '60s in Italy -- but also abroad, especially in France and England -- a very particular trend began to spread, that one known as "Library music" or "sonorization": as suggested by its name, those were real music libraries intended for the accompaniment of audiovisual productions such as television programs, advertisements, documentaries, and films. Since they were created in total artistic freedom condition, they are often difficult if not impossible to catalog, as they're not anchored to a specific musical genre; this freedom also allowed the authors to compose, sometimes in the most complete anonymity, experimental and avant-garde music, capable of anticipating the sounds that only many years later would have been widespread on a larger scale. Egisto Macchi (1928-1992) was one of the most active composers of the sonorization and soundtrack genres together with artists such as Piero Umiliani, Alessandro Alessandroni, and Ennio Morricone; he also collaborated with the latter in the experimental music project Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. Fauna Marina is among his most popular and sought-after by collectors' titles: a set of eleven compositions intended to accompany the images of a hypothetical fish fauna documentary, an abstract hybrid of classical, contemporary, and jazz music that is still fresh and surprising today. Fauna Marina is part of a reissues series, made in collaboration with Edizioni Leonardi (Milan, Italy), of extremely rare library music LPs published between late '60s and early '70s, most of which have never been re-released until today, and that are finally made available again for collectors and sonorization music lovers. Original liner notes by Jonny Trunk. 180 gram vinyl; includes obi; Edition of 300.

YANO, AKIKO Gohan Ga Dekitayo CD
Wewantsounds present a 40th anniversary reissue of Akiko Yano's Gohan Ga Dekitayo, originally released in 1980. This superb double-album was recorded with Yellow Magic Orchestra at a time when she was part of the group's touring line-up between 1979 and 1980. The album is pure Akiko Yano featuring her superb singing and piano playing, enhanced by touches of YMO's synth-pop sound (check her cult version of YMO's classic, "Tong-Poo"). First album release outside of Japan. When Gohan Ga Dekitayo came out in 1980, Akiko Yano had been touring with Yellow Magic Orchestra for more than a year. She'd play keyboards alongside the three founding members -- Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yukihiro Takahashi -- plus guitarist Kenji Omura and synth wizard programmer Hideki Matsutake (as part of the 1980 North American tour, she'd also feature in the group's cult TV appearance on Soul Train for a memorable rendition of "Tighten Up") and they are all present on Gohan Ga Dekitayo. The double-LP, whose title could be translated by "Dinner Is Ready", was co-produced with Ryuichi Sakamoto and recorded at two legendary studios: Tokyo's Alfa Studio "A" and Los Angeles's Sound City. It was Akiko's first shift towards a fuller synth sound following four studio albums mixing pop and jazz funk, including her landmark debut from 1976, Japanese Girl (WWSCD 017CD/WWSLP 017LP). A shift that would continue with the release of Tadaima in 1981 (WWSCD 016CD/WWSLP 016LP), also featuring the YMO musicians. The fourteen tracks on Gohan Ga Dekitayo find Akiko in top form mixing her singer-songwriter's sensitivity with the electro-pop sound of YMO. It's interesting to note though that it is very much an Akiko Yano album even if the group is present on the album (interestingly they do also play analog instruments on the album). Akiko is clearly the one in charge with a string of beautiful compositions and the rendition of one of the group's classics, "Tong Poo" which she reinvents as a slower, less metronomic-paced song adding her own lyrics. Other highlights on the album include "Dogs Awaiting...", a hypnotic composition featuring fascinating electro arrangements or "Coloured Water" sung in English by Akiko accompanying herself on Fender Rhodes with subtle percussion by Tatsuo Hayashi and electronics by Ryuichi Sakamoto. There are many more great moments on this superb album which announces the further experiments of Tadaima. Remastered audio by Mitsuo Koike.
