BLACK, KAREN Dreaming of You 1971-1976 LP + 7"
"Anthology Recordings is honored to present Dreaming of You (1971-1976), the first ever collection of Karen Black's breathtaking original songs out July 16th. A prominent actor in the American New Wave, visual artist and unyielding creative spirit, Karen Black was also an accomplished musician. Produced by Cass McCombs and meticulously restored from the original tapes, Dreaming of You (1971-1976) gathers the best of Black's studio and demo recordings. The collection's fifteen tracks are a holistic depiction of Black's dreamy, introspective and earnest musical identity. Recalling the everywoman quality of Judy Collins and the quiet mystery of Billie Holiday, Black largely sings over simple acoustic guitar strumming, her voice a beacon amid tales of fantasy and heartache. Her range swings from fluttering highs to earthen lows, with a distinctiveness that evokes the enduring quality of early Asylum Records and the new classics of Angel Olsen. When she wasn't on set, she scrawled hundreds of poems and lyrics, and set them to acoustic guitar or piano. As with acting, songwriting for Black was a study in confession and in character. She often completed multiple takes of a song exploring that relationship, changing her tone, phrasing or cadence in each. RIYL: Cass McCombs, Angel Olsen, Judy Collins, Billie Holiday, Vashti Bunyan, Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill, Jackson Browne, Kris Kristofferson."

PARKER, WILLIAM Mayan Space Station CD
"Following the release of the Migration of Silence Intoand Out of The Tone World: Volumes 1-10 10CD Box and his first book-length biography, Universal Tonality: The Life and Music of William Parker earlier this year, composer, multi-instrumentalist, poet, griot, improviser and community leader William Parker presents a pair of brand-new studio trio albums which bountifully expound on his vision. One of the most iconic and enduring music leaders to emerge in the world over the last half century, William Parker continues to raise the bar higher. Mayan Space Station is his first electric guitar trio album, and features Ava Mendoza -- electric guitar, William Parker -- bass, and Gerald Cleaver -- drums. Cosmic multi-hued blues, perfect for space and time travel. The unparalleled rhythmic firmament created by Parker & Cleaver is matched by Mendoza in full flight. All of the promise imagined by a trio recording of these musicians with compositions by Parker is delivered to the fullest. William Parker first worked with Ava Mendoza on a project entitled Thunder and Flowers for his July 2019 residency at The Stone in NYC. Her prodigious talents have illuminated many projects and recordings as both leader and collaborator over the past decade. As is abundantly clear here, she is committed to bringing expressivity, energy and a wide sonic range to the music. Gerald Cleaver is an exceptionally gifted poet of drum sound who can play in the deepest of pockets and manifest all manner of sound to perfectly fit contours within the most open of forms. Cleaver & Parker have worked closely on numerous projects, notably within the nonpareil full-improvising trio, Farmers By Nature, together with Craig Taborn. William Parker is in vibrant grandmaster blossom here on double bass -- in both pizzicato & bow-as-prism modes. Regarding the album title, Parker offers: 'Mayan Space Station is a conduit for peace and inspiration. It is an oasis where sound and silence navigators stop for sustenance to replenish their imaginations. It is a reality that important to the myth structure of the Tone World chronicle. In a way, musicians, and definitely these particular musicians, belong to the blood line of sonic travelers who, as Sun Ra described it, 'travel the space ways.' Re-inventing the process, allowing music to flow through their instruments.'"

PARKER, WILLIAM Painters Winter CD
"Following the release of the Migration of Silence Into and Out of The Tone World: Volumes 1-10 10CD Box and his first book-length biography, Universal Tonality: The Life and Music of William Parker earlier this year, composer, multi-instrumentalist, poet, griot, improviser and community leader William Parker presents a pair of brand new studio trio albums which bountifully expound on his vision. One of the most iconic and enduring music leaders to emerge in the world over the last half century, William Parker continues to raise the bar higher. Painters Winter features the trio of Daniel Carter -- reeds, trumpet, flute; William Parker -- bass, trombonium, shakuhachi; Hamid Drake -- drums. Carter & Parker have been perpetual space-ways traveling companions since first meeting & immediately beginning to channel music together in early 1970s NYC. Their work together in Other Dimensions In Music with Roy Campbell & Rashid Bakr for well over two decades manifest in bountiful music for the ages. They have recently been featured together in similar majestic open form on the album, Seraphic Light. Here, Carter again brings the full assembly of instruments he has for decades been a master of: trumpet, alto & tenor saxophones, clarinet and flute. Likewise, Hamid Drake is a musician's musician; one of the most in-demand drummers in the world. He is in command of a vast lexicon of drum languages, learned and absorbed directly. His frequent flyer miles could get him a ticket to Saturn and back. Drake & Parker launched their devoted 'two-man big band' partnership in 2000 and haven't stopped since. In trio with Daniel Carter, they've created one previous album together, Painters Spring, released that same year. Drake has made mention of his awe that William could pick up any new instrument and make beautiful music with it from jump. The title track of Painters Winter features Parker on trombonium, one of those many instruments that he plays beautifully on. The track 'Painted Scarf' features Parker on shakuhachi, upon which he has clearly become a master. Regarding this album's title, Parker elucidates, 'It speaks to those who paint with sound, in different landscapes, to celebrate the coming of the seasons: winter spring summer and autumn. Acknowledging the entire universe of world jazz music. Discovering the undiscovered.' And from his liner notes, 'The music on this album is a tribute to the flow of rhythm as melody and pulsation. Laced with the joy and the bounce, the dance and the heartbeat. Giving a nod to all the music that has ever passed through us.'"

MASTON Darkland LP
Maston's Darkland is a breezy collection of the material from the Tulips (BEWITH 087LP) sessions that didn't make it on to the original LP. Originally a digital-only release for those in the know in the autumn of 2018, after re-issuing Tulips in 2020 it made too much sense for Be With to give Darkland a vinyl release. Like Tulips, Darkland was recorded mostly in Hoorn, in the Netherlands, between 2015-2017 during downtime from Frank's touring duties with Jacco Gardner's band. Bits were also done in Los Angeles on some extended trips back home. The collection plays like an alternate view of Maston's instant modern classic Tulips; a companion piece to the LP proper with similar mixture of shorter themes and more full-length tracks. Darkland opens with its ornate 39 second title-track before striding into "Tulips", that full-length title-track that never was. It's a real head-nod, percussive-rich electric piano stunner that would've been a comfortable standout on the album proper. But now this "downlifting" gem is given ample room to shine on this record. The funky organ-led bass and drums workout "Immaculate Conception" will keep your neck gently snapping while MPC fiends go reaching for their sampler. "Love Theme No 3" cuts a breathtakingly stylish vibra-slapped swathe through the middle of the opening side before we're startled by the pronounced bass and twinkling percussion of "The Owl In Daylight". Charming digi-drums underpin the wonky synth (quiet-)banger "Innovative Patterns" which has a lovely melodic switch-up in the final third before the tempo (and hairs on your neck) rise on the faintly creepy yet imminently groovy "Osiris". The gorgeously soft-focus "Groove Experiment No 3" closes out the first half in slo-mo wonderment. The lushly melancholic "Raincloud" ushers in side B before the emotionally-stirring "Phonic" taps at the door, coming on like the long lost sister to Pet Sounds' "Let's Go Away For A While". Next up, the swooning beauty "Love Theme No 2" keenly sways in front of you, growing ever more insistent and hypnotic. The too-short "Italian Summer" conjures the same flirtatious imagery as the title hints at whilst "Endless" is a fascinating "piano-pella" alternative version to "Rain Dance" from Tulips. "Wonder Theme" has a nostalgic, exotic 60s swing and album closer "Willow" is a hushed, campfire folk gem. The gently circular strumming is just magical. Mastered by Simon Francis.

CERRONE The Golden Touch (Cerrone IV) LP+CD
Gold-colored LP in gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeve; includes CD. The idea that France once had a genius and let him go to California where he was more welcome and appreciated than in Paris is, in the digital era, commonplace. Every web entrepreneur heads toward Silicon Valley to develop ideas. During the '70s, this was less ordinary. Back then, the music world witnessed the departure of a very talented guy for the United States, a country that quickly understood he was a star. Marc Cerrone, a trained drummer and disco phenomenon who sold more albums than many other artists put together, saw his career magnified by America but also slightly twisted by France, which quickly reduced him to a style -- disco music -- without trying to understand who he was and how relevant his talent was. His path went through two phases; two complementary moves. The Golden Touch was released in 1978; its composer is one of the spiritual fathers of the dense '70s disco era.

PALAIS SCHAUMBURG Palais Schaumburg (Red Vinyl) LP
For the 40th anniversary of this influential album from Hamburg-based band Palais Schaumburg Bureau B are releasing a limited LP version: 500 copies, numbered, red vinyl, and with printed inner sleeve including all lyrics in German and English. In 1980, two students met at the Hamburg Art Academy: Thomas Fehlmann, who appreciated art and music and wanted to connect them, and the musician Holger Hiller, who had escaped the fractious Hamburg alternative scene, preferring the art school's Conservatory of Music. The spirit of the early New German Wave blew through the country, the first independent labels vied for innovative artists, and the West German post-punk scene began to take shape. Hiller and Fehlmann brought in FM Einheit (from the band Abwärts) on drums and the Californian Chris Lunch on bass. But only shortly after the first single, with Timo Blunck's bass riffs and the adept drumming of Ralf Hertwig, did the band establish its classic lineup. Palais Schaumburg played numerous gigs in this lineup and recorded a second single ("Telefon") --then on the indie label Zick Zack. The recording of the album was enhanced by the British producer David Cunningham (Flying Lizards). Soon the music giant Phonogram came along waving a contract. Though it was predictable that the album would not exactly be a commercial success, its special position in German pop music soon became clear. The attention the album received was considerable, given the "awkwardness" of the music. Even abroad, the qualities of the quartet did not go amiss, especially in the Netherlands and Great Britain. These days, alongside to the central works of the famous krautrock bands, it is one of the most sought-after albums of German avant-garde music internationally. A printed English translation of the lyrics perhaps contributed to album's high profile abroad, as certainly did the appearance of the band: with shaved-up necks, side partings and traditional German jackets, Palais Schaumburg took a stance against the clothing habits of the punks on the one hand, and the peace movement on the other, toying provocatively with supposedly Ur-Germanic symbols and meanings. The intention was not merely to be acoustically "different".

MAILE, HEIKO Demo Tapes 1984-86 LP
LP version. "The beginnings of Camouflage represent a personal voyage of discovery in so many ways. Ideas, compositions, arrangements, sound and not least the technical question of the recording process -- this was all completely new ground for me. Getting to grips with songwriting and studio engineering without any form of training or professional guidance involves a great deal of trial and error and, above all, plenty of time. Any spare minutes I had were spent with our synthesizers and recording equipment. Every demo, every attempt to imitate the sound of a favorite record or device rang true to the mantra of 'learning by doing' ... equipment with no memory function (please do not touch!), the constant humming of cheap wires and cables (soldering is a must-have skill!), rotten-sounding cassettes (which had been recorded over several times, of course), a healthy degree of overconfidence (who needs a Fairlight CMI?) or the frequently unpredictable vagaries of analog technology on a home studio budget -- there were many lessons to be learned. Most of the tracks on this album were recorded with a basic stereo (2-track) cassette recorder. The studio set-up looked more or less like this: a drum computer (no MIDI) and a sequencer were connected to each other and synchronized rhythmically. I crafted melodic sequences and rhythms and usually transposed them to the desired pitch manually, using the keyboards. Other live instruments were played over the top. Then everything, the sum of all the sound sources, was put together in a kind of 'live recording' with the aid of a mixing desk. Just a single mistake would mean having to start all over again. Reconfiguring many of the sounds once the controls had already been adjusted was a painstaking process. I ended up with heaps of cassettes, often featuring seemingly endless versions and variations of the same track . . . State of the art studio technology and audio restoration algorithms helped me to get these tracks back into listenable shape. Sifting through the archive and unearthing long-forgotten song ideas can create a retrograde vibe . . . I had fun with all of it and I hope that the tracks selected will whet the appetite of fresh listeners to explore the early phase of my electronic music and the bizarre sonic worlds I inhabited." --Heiko Maile, December 2020

BARBIERI, CATERINA Fantas Variations 2LP
"Fantas" is the epic opening track on Caterina Barbieri's acclaimed 2019 release Ecstatic Computation (EMEGO 259LP, 2019). The original "Fantas" laid out a magical path of patterns leading the listener on a journey into the sound itself. Fantas Variations maps out eight new potentials sprung from this initial path as constructed by a diverse mix of artists lending to a wide spectrum of new works extrapolated from the original work. For this project Barbieri invited friends and long-time collaborators from a variety of musical backgrounds to create a more sustainable and inclusive landscape in terms of stylistic, geographical, gender, and generational balance. The results are a diverse array of approaches and instrumentation which blur the boundaries between the acoustic and electronic. Fantas Variations embraces a platform for mutual exchange and support between like-minded artists, where active and collective re-imagination is prioritized over the traditional model of remixes, which is often strategic, functional and more passive. Longtime friend and collaborator Kali Malone rearranged "Fantas" to a slowed-down, austere and eerie version for two organs. Evelyn Saylor created a piece for a vocal ensemble consisting of her, Lyra Pramuk, Stine Janvin, and Annie Garlid, joining forces to express the choral, psychedelic and vital nature of the piece. Barbieri's former guitar professor at the Conservatory in Bologna, Walter Zanetti, composes "Fantas" for electric guitar, by translating every single gesture of the original electronic piece into a personal, nuanced and detailed interpretation. Bendik Giske's reinterpretation for saxophone and voice captures the atmospheric essence of "Fantas" and its psychic meteorology. Longtime collaborator and along with Barbieri the other half of the outfit Punctum, Carlo Maria, resynthesizes "Fantas" for TR808 and MC202, bringing a more club-oriented dimension of the piece to life whilst unveiling the sonic continuum between rhythm and pitch through a sensitive timbral approach. Jay Mitta's Singeli reinterpretation of "Fantas" transpires with pitched-up percussion and turbo-fast polyrhythmic patterns unleashing the frenetic, shifting, transformative matter within the piece to a higher plain of euphoric dance. Baseck's variation is a rave fantasia, where the prismatic trance of the original is channeled into fierce, uncompromising hardcore, whilst Kara-Lis Coverdale's take is a phantasmagoria for piano that gently, yet inexorably, captures the relentlessness chimerical qualities of the original, unveiling its spectral backbone. Mastered by Rashad Becker, February 2021. Cut by Andreas Kauffelt at Schnittstelle, Berlin, February 2021. Artwork and typography by Ruben Spini. Lettering by Alice Fiorelli.

AZYMUTH Azimuth LP
2021 restock. Far Out Recordings present a reissue of the seminal debut album from Azymuth, Azimüth, originally released in 1975. Having never seen a vinyl release outside of Brazil, Azimüth is considered a milestone in Brazilian music. Azymuth -- Jose Roberto Bertrami, Ivan Conti, and Alex Malheiros, as well as Ariovaldo Contesini -- formed in the late '60s just as Os Mutantes released their debut record (1968). Whilst Mutantes were honing a psychedelic "Amazonian" version of western pop music, Azymuth were creating a futuristic, electric interpretation of US jazz -- also driven by the same rootsy Brazilian "swing" that Mutantes had harnessed. Bertrami was the drive behind Azymuth's sound -- a control freak and musical genius obsessed with the latest technology who wanted to use it to push the boundaries of music in a way that no one else in Brazil had done. His use of keyboards has drawn comparisons between Azymuth's work and Herbie Hancock's early '70s output, yet with its Brazilian swing Azymuth's electric jazz sound is unmistakably their own. Conti is an impulsive and an incredibly energetic drummer. Alex Malheiros, who learned his trade playing from the master of Brazilian swing Ed Lincoln, is one of Brazil's original groove masters. Bertrami rose to fame as an arranger in the mid-60s, and by the late '60s he was arranging for the queen of Brazilian music, Elis Regina. Released in summer 1975, the album was a minor commercial success selling 200,000 copies. Opening track "Linha do Horizonte" -- a sublime piece of melancholic electronic saudade where deep cinematic synths melt into gently strummed acoustic jazz guitar -- was chosen for a TV novella and went on to sell half a million, propelling Azymuth onto the Brazilian music scene. The rest of the album doesn't disappoint -- "Melô Dos Dois Bicudos" sees Azymuth plugging them into the Brazilian national grid for a slice of electrified psyched out samba funk with crashing military drums, shrieking sirens and psych synths. "Brazil" is a lolloping bass led groover with Bertrami's melody giving the track a charming, innocent naivety, and "Caça A Raposa" is a boogie jazz funk groover. Azimüth is the album that kick-started it all for them, the record that was the blueprint and definition of their "samba doido/crazy samba" sound. Comes in a gatefold sleeve; 180 gram vinyl.

NASCIMENTO, MILTON Ultimo Trem 2LP
2021 restock, last copies, RSD 2020 release. Following the release of Milton Nascimento's Maria Maria (FARO 215LP), Far Out Recordings present Nascimento's 1980 follow-up. With the success of Maria Maria in 1976 behind them, Nascimento reunited with his writing partner Fernando Brant in 1980 to produce another ballet, Ultimo Trem (Last Train). This time, they chose to tackle a more contemporarily relevant subject, the impact of the closure of a train line that connected certain towns and cities in the North East of Minas Gerais to the coast. "The military government shut down the route and the whole region began to fade away," explains Milton. "I love train rides" adds the composer, "But today there are almost no trains to Brazil..." Featuring much of the same all-star line-up as Maria Maria -- including legendary Brazilian musicians Naná Vasconcelos, João Donato, Paulinho Jobim, and members of Som Imaginário, amongst many others, like Maria Maria, the album holds what Milton himself considers to be the definitive versions of some of his most beloved tracks, including "Saídas E Bandeiras" and "Ponte de Areia". The title track, "Ultimo Trem" -- performed exquisitely by Zezé Mota with a choir and piano -- is a mournful lament about the human consequences of the axed line. "A Viagem (The Trip)", launched with a train's steam whistle, sees Milton's guitar moving to a train's rhythm. "Bicho Homen (Beastly Man)" and "Decreto (Degree)" are atypically upbeat and funky, their vocals a mesh of wordless male voices resembling the then fashionable Swingles Singers' renderings of Bach. "E Daí? (And So What?)", and "Olho d'Agua (Water's Eye)" were both drawn from Clube Da Esquina (1972). The unusual "O Velho (The Old Man)" conjures up an image of an old shaman singing alone into the wind against the cries of nature. Perhaps the most affecting songs are Nascimento's "Itamarandiba" and "Oração (Prayer)". The latter is a cry for a change in the situation whilst "Itamarandiba" ends with an upbeat, whirling Hammond organ and guitar timepiece. The closing track "Ponta de Areia (Sand Edge)", was based on one of Fernando's newspaper stories and became one of Milton's most famous pieces, covered by musicians such as Wayne Shorter and Earth, Wind and Fire. After 27 years of being locked inside contracts and record company legalities, these sublime songs were finally released in 2003 as a double-CD package, along with Maria Maria. This is the first ever vinyl release, on limited edition red vinyl, for Ultimo Trem.

CUNNINGHAM/JENIFER GELINEAU/BRETT ROBINSON/TED LEE, MARK Quartet Cassette
"Back in 2012 Mark Cunningham of Mars and Blood Quartet, who also records as a solo artist was back in Western Mass, where he once had some roots. Mark came by the store to hang, but he was itching to do something, so a jam was suggested. Once the shop was closed, Mark brought his trumpet back to the store. To meet him, Brett Robinson stood up his bass, Jen Gelineau lifted her violin and Ted Lee entered his percussion zone. At that time these last three were mostly gigging with Egg Eggs, but they didn't let that stop them from playing a light and fine improv set. On the first side, Mark's trumpet really sets the pace with long, loosely Baker-fried lines, and everyone hits a fine and abstract groove. On the flip, Jen's violin carries a bit more of the tonal weight with Mark dropping back into the shadows to lay strange accents onto her saw lines, while Ted and Brett both pop like knuckle monkeys. Now that's what I call music. Pretty dang bracing!" --Byron Coley, 2021

HOWLIN' WOLF The Howlin' Wolf Album LP
2021 repress. "It's not often that an album disavowed by its own author at the time of release goes on to become considered a modern classic. Yet that's exactly what happened with Chicago blues legend Howlin' Wolf's 1969 LP The Howlin' Wolf Album, a release that has since attained mythical status due to the controversy behind it. Released on Cadet Records, a subsidiary of legendary imprint Chess Records, The Howlin' Wolf Album was a radical experiment for a well-established artist: attempt to integrate electric instruments and psychedelic arrangements into his revered signature blues sound. The result was an album that Wolf himself initially disregarded on the now infamous cover, but one that has won a special place amongst dedicated music aficionados thanks to its unique mix of traditional blues and electric rock elements. Get On Down's reputation for high quality reissues continues with The Howlin' Wolf Album, which features a special Stoughton vinyl pressing with audio remastered from the original analog tapes for optimum sound quality and comes packaged in a paste-on style jacket featuring the album's famous original artwork."

BLACK SHEEP A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing 2LP
2021 repress. "Get on Down is proud to present A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, the debut album by Black Sheep, available for the first time ever as double vinyl release. On the initial release of this classic it was 'The Choice Is Yours' that blew the roof off with even the most of novice rap fans gravitating to the song's energy. The cut has gone on to be featured in a long list of films and commercials (including the KIA campaign with the hip hop hamsters). Singles like 'The Choice Is Yours' and 'Flavor of the Month' made a perfect landing strip for those to delve deeper into the duo's debut. Often humorous ('Strobelite Honey'), often serious ('Black with No N.V (No Vision)', Black Sheep were able to craft an album that displayed their witty sensibilities while also staying conscious in true Native Tongue form. From the moment the album starts with Prince Paul introducing the 'lowlifes of the family tree' you know you are in for something special and different. Mista Lawnge's production is every bit as textured as fellow counter parts Tribe or De La, while standing out as being completely original and fresh. Tracks like 'Butt in the Meantime', 'Try Counting Sheep' and 'La Menage (Featuring Q Tip)' are great examples of the duo's original style - complex layered beats (everything from Jazz, Soul and Rock all meshed together perfectly) to compliment Dres' distinct voice and word play. With other standout album cuts like 'For Those That Slept' and 'To Who It May Concern' it seemed as if they had an endless bag of treats, each offering something different while preserving the groups style."

VA A Stranger I May Be: Savoy Gospel 1954-1986 3CD
2021 restock. An extensive, sumptuous survey of surely the mightiest Gospel label of them all. Sixty-one gems of stomping, rollicking, desolate, ravishing gospel music, intermingling with soul, blues, doo-wop, jazz, R&B, disco, and boogie. Covering 1954-1966, the first disc is infused and incandescent with the hurting, surging indignation of the Civil Rights movement. Twenty-four heart-stopping scorchers by giants like the Staple Singers and Jimmy Scott, alongside less celebrated names like The Harmonizing Five of Burlington, North Carolina, and teen-group the North Philadelphia Juniors, culminating triumphantly with slamming, sanctified versions of "Hit The Road Jack" and "Wade In The Water". The second disc presents sublime crossings of gospel with the soul, funk, and jazz of the Black Power era. Twenty rapturous cuts dot dazzlingly between Muscle Shoals soul, screwed breakbeat, Mizells-style fusion, disco and proto-house. Triumphant re-workings of Sly Stone, Donny Hathaway, and Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters" will have listeners throwing their pew cushions into the air. The third disc selects fierce funk, rapturous soul and transcendent disco and boogie, loaded with roaring choirs, rocking horns and popping bass guitars, super-charged with celebration and affirmativeness, from the years leading up to Savoy's acquisition by Malaco. Drawn from nigh-impossible-to-find 78s, sevens, twelves and LPs, hardly any of these recordings -- perhaps none -- have been reissued since their first release. The third disc opens with a stupendous onslaught by Edith Moreno which only appeared as a tiny handful of blank-label promos. Presented as a sixty-page mini-book, perfect-bound, with CDs suspended in card sleeves; beautifully designed, with stunning, rare photographs and original Savoy artwork. Sound restoration and mastering were done at Abbey Road. Co-curated by Greg Belson, compiler of Divine Disco; with deep, extensive notes by Robert Marovich, author of A City Called Heaven: Chicago and the Birth of Gospel Music (University of Illinois), and host of the award-winning radio show, Gospel Memories.Features Famous Ward Singers, The Harmonizing Five, The Sensational Six, The Gospel Harmonettes Specials, The Christones, The Staple Singers, Swindell Brothers, The Roberta Martin Singers, Jimmy Scott, Shirley Caesar and The Caravans, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Hightower Brothers, North Philadelphia Juniors, The Selah Singers, The Ward Singers, The Stars of Faith, Marion Williams, The Gospel Cavaliers, The Caravans, Eddie Williams and the Crusaders, The Davis Sisters, The Gospel Chimes, The Angelic Gospel Choir, The Angelic Choir, The Artistic Sounds, The Holy Lights of Baltimore, MD, The Swan Silvertones, Gene Martin, Myrna Summers, James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir, Betty Hollins, The Metro Tones, The World Wonders, The Brooklyn Skyways, Ida Maxey, The Thornes Trio, Mildred Clark And The Melody-Aires, The Highway Q.C.s, The Gospelaires Of Dayton, Ohio, The Exciting Supreme Highlights, James Moore, Prof. Charles Taylor and The Charles Taylor Singers, The Brockington Ensemble, Edith Moreno, The World Wonders, The Helen Hollins Singers, Solomon Burke, Genobia Jeter, The Lady Lois Snead with the Interdemoninational Mass Choir of Atlanta, GA, Charisma, The Stan Lee Revue, The Sensational Williams Brothers, The 4th Of May, James Cleveland And The Cleveland Singers, The Hollywood Stars, The Steele Family, and Glenn Jones And The Modulations.

RAINFOREST SPIRITUAL ENSLAVEMENT Flying Fish Ambience 2LP
First copies on limited/USA-exclusive splatter vinyl! The Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement environs conceived by Dominick Fernow and Philippe Hallais complement "artificial spaces" and "synthetic nature" through the decay of "digital rain storms" and "falling comet bass drops". Flying Fish Ambience is the duo's first studio album together after a series of tours, and builds the RSE sound into a deep hypnotic synthetic topography and guided meditation into perpetual stress. The follow-up to the acclaimed Ambient Black Magic (HOS 498CD/LP, 2017), Flying Fish Ambience is a treatise in anti-exotica -- a purpose-built artificial ambient wilderness rooted in wobbling sub-bass, watered wastefully with glossy digital FX. Meticulously assembled over a series of trips, tours and sessions in various cities (Berlin, Paris, New York), Flying Fish Ambience crystallizes the expansive perpetual motion of salt vessels and water basins repopulating with ecological imbalance, this evolution -- as an expression of the live blue entity. Words from RSE: "flying fish ambience flies again / dies again / and splashes through the dark blue waters again and again / to the deep water blue / to the crumbling sandbanks / and to the crumbling monuments / and to a world of unknown deeps / and washed out sands / sun rippling ocean blue / across skeletons of those left behind and skeletons of the mind's green eye! / blue herb ambient returns! / you are the journey's end!" RONE Spanish Breakfast LP
2021 repress, originally released in 2009. At sunrise, stuck in the last floor of his apartment in Paris, with his elbow on the breakfast table, Rone sinks into his dream and ventures into a wonderland alternately fairy-tale and nightmarish. Hard to find a better illustration than the videoclip of "Spanish Breakfast" to introduce the melting relationship sustained by Rone's music with imaginary realms. This first collaboration with French short-film boy wonder, Vladimir Mavounia-Kouka could only give birth to a fantastic piece of work and a relevant visual metaphor for the daydreaming nature of this first album. After a first cut with Lucy on Curle, Rone signed a proper 12" on Agoria's imprint InFiné. Ranking among his best supporters Massive Attack 3D, English superstar DJs of the likes of Sasha, Lee Burridge and Dial's or Border Community's champions, his gliding Bora EP was a first tour-de-force, which reconciled electronic with indie amateurs. In everyday life, Erwan Castex is making soundscapes for exhibitions, adverts or short-films, but when he starts working on his own compositions, Rone becomes the guide of an enchanted world. But what makes Rone run: Some Spanish Breakfast entertainments; a catapult throwing juicy electronica towards orange-suns; a mound of strawberries, as pop and tasty allegory for Belleville, one of the most colorful and animated district of Paris; the progressive rocking of a coffee bath in the Nigerian highnesses of Aya Ama or the misty coziness of the lunar in"tea"rlude; Not quite so. Rather the pranks of a blind and kleptomaniac white rabbit! Compelled in a breathless race, Rone drives his listeners toward more dynamic and refined productions. In this underground of Mass-production, performance and conformity, the sarcasms of a French SF writer on "Bora" appears as a necessary release to the survival of creativity. From this sanitized and mechanical fast-food city emerge nonetheless the exulted and minimalist "Tasty City" and the hypnotic copper of "La Dame Blanche" in a three-colored and pornographic Pigalle-like district. A last breath of fresh air as "Outro" -- the music stops -- and the listener is eventually back to reality. Features Alain Damasio.

RONE Mirapolis LP
2021 repress, originally released in 2017. Stepping into Rone's music is like sleepwalking through a vividly colorful dream, eventually stumbling across a strange, scintillating Megapolis of saturated light and colors: Mirapolis. It's twelve tracks/districts, each with their own specific planning, pulsate as though animated by their musical mastermind. You snorkel through Mirapolis' musical depths. A city that generates constant wonderment, a desire for emancipation, a gathering of citizens connected to the collective's vital energy. The project was an opportunity for Rone to get reacquainted with long-time stage and studio partners John Stanier, Gaspar Claus and the Vacarme band, and Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National), while bringing in new collaborators (and thus, new interpretation of Rone's dreams). You find American slam-poet Saul Williams, who happened to be in Paris for a moment and contributes a searing anti-trump screed; Baxter Dury, who brings an irresistible East London touch to "Switches", a kind of fan fic that reimagines the Beatles' Sgt Pepper lounging pensive in a club chair; Israeli electronic music muse Noga Erez, who inspired "Waves", which, despite being recorded remotely, betrays a euphoric partnership; and finally, Kazu Makino, Blonde Redhead's bewitching singer and multi-instrumentalist, who contributes to the album's closer, the gauzy "Down For The Cause".

KAZIMIR, NICOLA Post-Heretic Dracula X Chronicles II LP/7"
In Post-Heretic Dracula X Chronicles II the Dracula figure functions as a part fictive and part autobiographical metaphor. Dracula mirrors certain systematic (therefore also internal) conditionings and attributes in its whole ambivalent fluctuations. This character represents the complex relationships of a loving/living person in a neo-liberal capitalist system while oscillating between melancholia and rage, facing the preservation or loss of his love and standing in an alienated position towards the ruling order. The eleven featured compositions and their respective song names (both of them are riddled with references) playfully touch on conflicts between love, life and system-critique, without being too upfront about the subject-matter. Nicola Kazimir (*28.05.1990 in Zürich, Schweiz) A DJ, producer, musician, artist, space-owner, record label owner, and party organizer. Nicola Kazimir works freely across platforms and communities. For Kazimir, these numerous positions are not static, and they can act fluidly and reciprocally as a whole, or as separate entities. His artistic and acoustic productions are mostly based on topics that include the institutionalization of techno, copyright, dividualism, and the human perception of repetitive rhythm patterns mixed with aesthetic codes of B-movie horror movies or occultism. He is one of the founders and still part of the labels Les Points/Gentrified Underground/Infoline and the off-space Mikro Zürich. Other projects include a supporting role in the organization of Zentralwäscherei Zürich and being part of the Clubbüro-team at Rote Fabrik.

LUCIER, ALVIN Music On A Long Thin Wire CD
2021 restock; 1992 release. First released on Lovely Music in 1980. A 50-foot length of taut wire passes through the poles of a large magnet and is driven by an oscillator; the vibrations of the wire are miked at either end, amplified, and broadcast in stereo. The thin wire is set vibrating four times at four different frequencies; what results is not the low drone one might expect from a long, vibrating wire, but a complexity of evocative, ethereal chords. Music On A Long Thin Wire is a classic example of Alvin Lucier's investigations into the physics of sound and the sonic properties of natural processes.

LUCIER, ALVIN I Am Sitting In A Room CD
2021 restock; originally released by Lovely Music in 1981. In this fascinating exploration of acoustical phenomena, Alvin Lucier slips from the domain of language to that of music in the course of 40 minutes and 32 repetitions of a simple paragraph of text. In I Am Sitting In A Room, several sentences of recorded speech are simultaneously played back into a room and re-recorded there many times. As the repetitive process continues, those sounds common to the original spoken statement and those implied by the structural dimensions of the room are reinforced. The others are gradually eliminated. The space acts as a filter; the speech is transformed into pure sound. All the recorded segments are spliced together in the order in which they were made and constitute the work. I Am Sitting In A Room was composed in 1970 and was first performed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City that same year. A second version was made in 1972 to accompany the dance, Dune, performed by the Viola Farber Dance Company at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Since that time, numerous versions of this composition have been realized in various ways by other musicians, including a Swedish radio broadcast version. This recording was made by Alvin Lucier on October 29th and 31st, 1980, in the living room of his home in Middletown, CT. The material was recorded on a Nagra tape recorder with an Electro-Voice 635 dynamic microphone and played back on one channel of a Revox A77 tape recorder, Dynaco amplifier, and a KLH Model Six loudspeaker. It consists of thirty-two generations of Alvin Lucier's speech and was made expressly for Lovely Music, Ltd.

MONK, MEREDITH Key CD
2021 repress; originally released in 1971. Key contains Meredith Monk's earliest compositions for voice. The songs that make up Key were composed and performed in a three year period between 1967 and 1970, when Monk collected them into this 45-minute "invisible theater" experience. Meredith Monk on the release: "In Key I wanted to create a constantly shifting ambience. Each song dealt with a different vocal character, landscape, technical concern or emotional quality. I was trying for a visceral, kinetic song form that had the abstract qualities of a painting or a dance. I knew that I didn't want to set music to a text; for me, the voice itself was a language which seemed to speak more eloquently than words. I chose certain phonemes for their particular sound qualities. In a sense, each song became a world in itself with its own timbre, texture and impulse." Personnel: Meredith Monk - voice, organ, jews harp; Daniel Ira Sverdlik, Dick Higgins, Collin Walcott, Lanny Harrison, Mark Monstermaker - voices.

PORTER RICKS Biokinetics 2LP
Mille Plateaux present a reissue of Porter Ricks' Biokinetics, originally released in 1996. Techno isn't a genre that has birthed many consistent albums, and the dub techno subgenre even less so, but one indisputable classic is Porter Ricks' debut Biokinetics. Originally issued on the legendary Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction in 1996 following a trio of 12"s, Biokinetics was the first of the label's album releases, and still stands as its crowning achievement. Porter Ricks are Thomas Köner and Andy Mellwig, and between them they re-framed the techno sound, imbuing the spacious ambience pioneered by label bosses Mark Ernestus and Moritz Von Oswald with a frosty, isolated experimental bent, and combining it with the sort of haunted minimalism of early Plastikman. What separated Biokinetics from other albums at the time was its unwavering narrative -- the exact sound has been interpreted countless times since, but the immersive qualities of this singular record have rarely been touched. Maybe it is down to the silvery underwater concept that ties each track together -- the bubbling pads, sub-aquatic basses and muffled kick drums. But as with any great album, it's hard to exactly put your finger on what makes it a classic. Simply put Biokinetics is one of the most important records in the genre and one of techno's finest albums. It has been re-released ten years ago by Type Records, and now Mille Plateaux is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Porter Ricks and Biokinetics with this sumptuous double vinyl edition.

KONER, THOMAS Nuuk LP
LP version. Mille Plateaux present a reissue of Thomas Köner's Nuuk, originally published as one of four CDs on the 1997 compilation Driftworks and re-released in 2004 by MillePlateauxMedia. Thomas Köner is one of the most influential modernist minimal composers. Alongside Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project, Köner has been centrally responsible for electronic music's fascination with depth and reduction. His signature sound is vast, seemingly endless, which at first seems homogenous and infinite, but once exposed to it, when our senses calibrate to the fine nuances of changes, you discover and immerse into abundance of textures, richness of modulations, and almost infinite range of sonic titillations. Köner's work was inspired by his frequent travels in the Arctic, and listeners feel his music as a journey to mysterious worlds of the Arctic region. The experience of being exposed to the extreme cold, the heightening of our senses and ability to notice even the slightest changes in color, sound, light or density that creates this dangerously reductive environment, is like an immersion in the sonic world of this German artist, where masterfully crafted layers of sound open into colossal spaces, teeming with aural life, waiting to be discovered by those who venture into it. The titles of Köner's highly regarded albums from the '90s ever so often play with this affinity -- Nunatak, Permafrost, Teimo -- all reference to the world of the Artic region, just as his album Nuuk that points us to the capital of Greenland. Subdued and minimal at first glance, this album is brimming with low-end frequencies, shadowy resonances, and boreal ambience, but at the same time, constant fluctuation and vulnerability of sonic events, makes it very organic, human and almost comforting, like the tiny harbor existing in the sea of ice, it is named after. It also served as the source of music material and inspiration for Thomas Köner's video art by the same title, which was awarded a Tiger Cub Award at the 34th International Film Festival in Rotterdam a year later.

Bonnet, and pictures by Araki, Juergen Teller, Elizaveta Porodina, Dani Pujalte, P Jack Davison, Zhong Lin, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Adrià Cañameras, Javier Tles, among others. PRSNT is a unique global artistic project combining the input of artists across the worlds of music, video and written word which acts as a statement on how we, as consumers, engage with music in the 21st century. Vital electronic musicians have each contributed tracks, which are approximately 32 seconds long. The concept was devised by Created By Us and the Barcelona-based label Modern Obscure Music. They read a study which identified that the overwhelming volume of instantly accessible information online is shortening attention spans and altering how audiences engage with music digitally. Their curiosity about the state of online consumption developed further on discovering that around a third of all listeners using digital platforms skip to the next track, within the first 30 seconds of playing. Each musician was given a fascinating challenge to create engaging compositions with real artistic merit, inside the confines of this shortened span. Akin to Brian Eno's famous Windows 95 start-up music, the time constraints are crucial, and the compositions are deceptively complex and more substantial than expectations of their nano nature would suggest. PRSNT acts as a critique of flighty feed culture, but is simultaneously constructive, providing something which is either proposed solution, or "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" resignation. Every artist has interpreted the brief differently, resulting in an intriguing blueprint for the potential future of digital music. Could abbreviated micro compositions satisfy, inspire and nourish like their longer counterparts? They certainly take up much less of listeners' busy lives, which are often spent tackling ever-increasing workloads. Lacquer cut by Josh Bonati. Mastered by Rashad Becker. White vinyl; gatefold sleeve.

GUN CLUB, THE Fire Of Love LP
2021 repress; 2003 release. Jeffrey Lee Pierce -- reggae enthusiast, heroin addict, and former president of the Blondie fan club -- suffered a lonely, depressing death on March 31st, 1996 of a brain hemorrhage, after untold years of drug use and alcoholism. Why this event mattered much to anyone lay in a fantastic record his band, The Gun Club, recorded 16 years earlier: the masterful Fire Of Love. A visionary and fierce moment in time when The Gun Club took the raw, dripping meat of shopworn delta blues and infused it with the energy and fire of the LA punk rock scene. Inspired by bands like X, Television and the Cramps, he met Kid Congo Powers (who later played with Nick Cave and Cramps) and they formed the Creeping Ritual in 1979, soon to be renamed The Gun Club. Pierce was already a notorious drunk, exhibitionist, poet and fanboy. The Gun Club were quickly a dangerous new spoke on the spinning wheel of dynamic LA alt-culture. By 1980, Jeffrey Lee had moved into a deep reverence for Mississippi delta blues. The Gun Club paid more than passing homage: they wholeheartedly swiped complete riffs, words and attitude from the masters. Pierce participated in the great blues singer tradition by cobbling together distinct lines from other people's songs to create new ones. Snatches of Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Robert Johnson can be heard throughout this debut LP -- released in 1981 on Slash's Ruby Records. What makes Fire Of Love such a brilliant listen long after its time is that this blatant homage to the blues was amplified, energized and kicked into overdrive -- in a new style that combined the ghostliness of the original model with a FAST, unwound and supremely energetic beat. The engineering feats of Pat Burnette contributed to that sound: he wielded his Quad-Teck studios like a weapon, and mastered some of the greatest sides in LA music history (such as Germs' GI). Pure fullness of sound and the raw hot throb of records that were made to stand the test of time. From the immensely dark and aggressive sexuality of "Sex Beat," Gun Club's most recognizable number, to the fetishistic salute to fellow traveler Poison Ivy of The Cramps in "For The Love Of Ivy," including the hellfire classic "She's Like Heroin To Me," a 2:33 masterpiece in which everything comes together; Fire Of Love is pure perfection. It stands among the greatest classics of rock history, and shows the genius of the great Jeffrey, whose haunted singing has never been replaced. It proved out to be one of the most influential records of the '80s, with countless musicians declaring their love for the Club.

ESKORBUTO Maldito País: Primera Época 1982-84 LP
2021 repress. Limited vinyl edition with 60x40 cm poster. Compilation of all the recordings by this legendary punk band prior to their LPs: the sessions for their single Mucha Policía, taken for the first time in 27 years from the original tapes, which has unearthed two studio recordings unissued until now; plus rehearsals, demos and live recordings. Completely remastered. A furious, no-holds-barred sonic account of a period of immense changes for Spain and the Basque Country. The origins of the most important Spanish punk group, regarded as one of the essential bands of the genre all over the Spanish-speaking world. It was a time when the walls were teeming with socio-political proclamations, where the hammer and sickle -- alongside the illegal Ikurriña (the flag of the Basque Country) -- were the most widely-used symbols. A time of general strikes and smoky joints, where huge speakers played loud rock. In Santurtzi, on the left bank of the Nervión estuary, a unique band was born: Eskorbuto. Iosu Expósito and Jualma Suarez lived in working class neighborhoods that had grown fast. In the '60s, industrialization and rampant development transformed them into urban areas without any investment in urbanism. Some elements for the alchemy led to the explosion: intelligent young guys who were nevertheless incapable of adhering to school discipline, a country in full swing towards freedom after 40 years of dictatorship. One day at the end of the '70s, they decided to start a band. The first period of Eskorbuto's life, before the damage done by the needle became noticeable, was incredibly fruitful. They soon found a rehearsal space, thanks to their first drummer ("Gu"), and there the first songs were born: "Enterrado Vivo," "Busco En La Basura," 'Éste Es El Porvenir," and "Mucha Policía, Poca Diversión." It was a period of line-up changes. Iñaki Laiseka played bass for them, and that role was also taken by "Seni" and "Garlopa," two precursors of "left bank" punk. Later on they found Paco Galán, who also came from a similar neighborhood to theirs. Paco always was the necessary engine, the piece around which the rest revolved, which guaranteed continuity. His drumming also added an apparently chaotic element to the already unbridled guitar melodies and visionary texts, halfway between dirty realism and Edgar Allan Poe's nightmares. These recordings are taken from those early times of excitement and vertigo, of journeys to Madrid and endless trips up and down the left bank looking for "someone that I've heard is selling an amp." Completely remastered from the original sources.

VOS & NILS DAVIDSE, MAARTEN Superbloom LP
Cellist Maarten Vos and pianist Nils Davidse became close friends over a shared love for modular synthesizers. Two musicians with a taste for contemporary electronic music, Vos and Davidse began experimenting and constantly extending each other's boundaries in hour-long colorful improvisations in the studio. Both of them being occupied with other projects, their monthly recording sessions became moments of pure freedom. Most of the album was composed and recorded in and around a forest cabin tucked away in the Dutch riparian woodlands. Intuitively following its surroundings, Superbloom is a true jungle of vivid and organic sounds that reflect both Vos and Davidse's musical backgrounds intertwined in a melodic and harmonically rich soundscape. It's a many layered affair, created with analog and digital synths, some hints of piano and cello, field recordings and processing through different kinds of tape machines.

RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS Relatively Clean Rivers LP
2021 repress; LP version. Former Beat Of The Earth leader Phil Pearlman assembled Relatively Clean Rivers in the early '70s and eventually released this excellent rural rock album in 1975. Although Pearlman's first recorded effort was a surf/hot rod 45 entitled Chrome Reversed Rails which appeared on the Fink label in the mid-'60s, it was with Beat Of The Earth that he began to forge a distinctive musical voice. The band was one of the earliest-known experimental bands with a sound reminiscent of their East Coast counterparts, The Velvet Underground, whose influence is often discernible on Relatively Clean Rivers. That said, RCR is recognized by those fortunate enough to have heard it as one of the very finest albums of the era, with a clearly-defined American sound akin to The Grateful Dead in all their American Beauty pomp or CSNY circa Déjà Vu. An album highly recommended to anyone even remotely interested in '70s West Coast music or simply great music in general. DEAD BANDIT From The Basement LP
Quindi Records continues to yield intriguing prospects as the label reach the third edition, moving from Woo's astral ruminations via Cabaret Du Ciel's sonorous meditations on to the dusty, dusky mantras of Dead Bandit. Maintaining the ambiguous creative practices of the label's previous releases, From The Basement reaches to the Earth for the malleable grit of post-rock while making the most of the broader sonic outlooks afforded by kosmische and electronic effects processes. Dead Bandit are Chicagoan songwriter Ellis Swan and Canadian multi-instrumentalist James Schimpl. Swan has previously released solo works including the stunning, inward-looking album I'll Be Around, a lo-fi Southern gothic dragging the husk of country ballads through battered signal chains. In Dead Bandit, Swan and Schimpl's artistic vision casts its gaze outwards on a vast expanse, where the distortion has space to stretch its legs and the drums pound out into open space. There's a common tonality at work here, the duos guitars telling a thousand hard-bitten tales where Swan's voice falls silent. It's no surprise to learn Swan and Schimpl's reference points include Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack, SF noise rockers Chrome and the imperial work of the late, great Mark Sandman of Morphine. You can sense Jim Jarmusch's America just lingering behind the road-weary thrum of "These Clouds" and detect the shadow of Tom Waits lurking in the raunchy lurch of "FF M". The pointedly titled "Sedated" calls to mind the slow-core movement and its rejection of rock n' roll's fixation on speed. Instead, tonality and atmosphere are key across From The Basement, although the ambient lull of "I See Her There" is the exception rather than the rule. Dead Bandit's desert sound has vibrancy and immediacy to match its moodiness, from the sultry swagger of opening track "Mud" to the bold and borderline bombastic "When I Looked Around". Like the previous Quindi releases, this record is inherently experimental in nature, but not at the expense of its warmth and instant appeal. From The Basement, an inquisitive pair with primitive tools look out and imagine a colossal plain as the canvas on which to paint their picture Includes download code and special insert drawing.

MITTOO, JACKIE The Keyboard King LP
2021 repress; LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Jackie Mittoo's The Keyboard King, originally released in 1976. Jackie Mittoo's contribution to reggae music is immeasurable. Of mixed Indian and African-Jamaican heritage, the man born Donat Roy Mittoo was a gifted musician that played piano in The Skatalites at the age of 16. He was a very important part of reggae's evolution, having been a crucial member of the Studio One house band from its very foundation, being employed as the main keyboardist and musical arranger for an extended period, working closely there with Lee 'Scratch' Perry and countless other important figures, as well as relegating Leroy Sibbles to the bass. Although Mittoo migrated to Canada in the late 1960s, he frequently returned to Jamaica to record, maintaining his Studio One connection, and also issuing a sublime series of albums for Bunny Lee in the mid-1970s. The Keyboard King was first issued on Third World in 1976, and features Mr. Mittoo's delightful organ workouts, completely reconfiguring hits by John Holt, Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell, and Bunny & Skully, among others.

VA Brown Acid - The Fifth Trip LP
2021 restock; LP version. "The hits just keep coming -- for this fifth lysergic journey, Riding Easy assembles ten heavy slabs of obscure rock the likes of which have never been seen before... not in this form, anyhow. And as usual, the tracks from these impossibly rare records have all been fully cleared through the artists themselves. Great lengths were gone to in order to get the best possible master sources, the worst case scenario being an original 45. The legendary Captain Foam kicks off this trip like an anvil to your skull with a rollicking stomper sounding like The Who with Matt Pike's thunderous guitar tone. 'No Reason' wasn't easy to find, but lo and behold, the super sleuths located him and got his blessing to include the A-side of his sole single. Good luck finding an original copy of the record. It's rarer than raw beef -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg. The other nine tracks continue the onslaught in typical Brown Acid form: George Brigman's charmingly disjointed bedroom-fi production of 'Blowin' Smoke,' Finch's way out of time and place grungeadelic anthem 'Nothing In The Sun,' Cybernaut's heavy prog, Fargo's hallucinogenic BBQ-sauce soaked 'Abaddon,' Mammoth's fittingly beefy eponymous riff-monger, Flasher's 'Icky Bicky' boogie, Ohio-based screamers Lance, Zebra's gritty rendition of 'Helter Skelter' and finally, the mysterious and previously unheard Thor appears here exclusively and for the first time ever with their unknown 45 track 'Lick It.'"

Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins -- often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. SAND Vibrating Cloud 2CD
Over five decades Sand is a timeless narrative machine full of pictures and scenarios, each title a unique piece that stands alone. The Vibrating Cloud floats powerfully across the vast expanses of sand, telling stories of confusion and aberration, rape of the planet, of the tenderness, hidden power and fragility of existence, the voracious digital demons, the loss of innocence in a surreal drama we call: World. Sand started with the Golem, the analog primitive robot that became independent and out of control. A hybrid creature related to Enki Bilal's mutants, androids, animal humans or automatons. Sand is the stage of the shadow struggles of Don Quixote, Faust's disappointed departure from science and the search for the infinite vastness of nature. The cunning, slyness and sophistication of the Mephisto in the big cities, the black town which has become an enemy habitat, and which produces people without earth, air pirates on air and passengers in circulation. The seductive Pandora, carrying in her box all the evils and hopes of this world, The Flying Dutchman's ghost ship roaming the seas. Sand is the story of the stranded and stuck but also the hopeful children's souls. The stories go from the me through the you to the we. So, in Vibrating Cloud, Sand and Enki Bilal merge into one psychedelic fiction. Sand kaleidoscopically reflects the facets of a darkened and then enlightened existence of man and the world and immerses himself musically and narratively in the spheres of Enki Bilal's mythology, conspiracy history, mixed-up comedy, science fiction and poetry. As Enki Bilal aptly put it: "I would say that this is a prospective reflection on our present world but in a different way in the future."

NURSE WITH WOUND Gyllenskold Geijerstam and I at Rydbergs 2LP
"This 1983 period in which Gyllensköld was recorded was a fantastic time for the evolution of Steven Stapleton's audio art. His collaborations with Diana Rogerson, Robert Haigh (Sema), David Tibet, and Thirlwell around this time elicited some of the most exciting work Nurse With Wound had yet recorded. Listen to this material and compare it to Chance Meeting and it becomes clear that in just a few years, Stapleton's art had grown by leaps and bounds. The production quality on these tracks is remarkable, and the widening out of the NWW soundworld opened up a whole new audio toybox that Stapleton has continued to experiment with up to today. This new sound encompasses vocal experiments, vintage LPs of easy listening music, demented nursery rhymes, lateral references to disposable pop music, avant-garde jazz and minimalistic piano composition, all glued together with evocative atmospheres redolent of things unholy, troubling and perverse, but always oddly indefinable and puzzlingly misshapen. In retrospect, Gyllensköld can be seen as the beginning of the 'mature;' period of NWW, and thus it is an indispensable release for fans of the project. Perhaps influenced by the obsessions of his friend and collaborator Tibet, Stapleton also began weaving religious and occult references into his usual name-dropping of avant-garde artists and movements . . . NWW's Gyllensköld comes across at times as the soundtrack to a schizoid episode: disembodied voices intoning nonsense, floating subliminally across the stereo channels, or cackling in evil delight. The sounds are denser here than on earlier works such as Homotopy To Marie. Areas of silence are mostly gone, replaced by layers of drone, cartoonish noises and mutated voices. 'Several Odd Moments Prior to Lunch' opens the brief album, setting the stage with its lysergically altered vocals and a frightening, yawning chasm of haunted, spectral sound. Stapleton, Thirlwell, and company learned how to wield the studio like an instrument on these and other recordings of the period. Effects such as reverb, delay, ring modulation and backwards tracking are utilized to create evolving textures and darkly psychedelic dreamspaces. 'Phenomenon of Aquarium and Bearded Lady' utilizes a number of instruments, including horns and piano, to create a bizarre dislocated funeral dirge in which the sounds of a slowly cycling jack-in-the-box are not out of place. For fans of musicians like Jacques Berrocal, who prefer their free jazz with a heavy dose of whacked-out eccentricity, this is about as good as it gets. 'Dirty Fingernails' is something else entirely, a longform exploration of outré textures, combining mysterious trebly noises with percussive bleeps of mysterious origin." --Brainwashed

MCGANN, BERNIE 1966 LP
Sarang Bang Records Archive Series Vol. 1, previously unreleased recordings of Bernie McGann compiled by Gianmarco Liguori. This compilation documents part of an exciting period in Australasian jazz. Recorded in Sydney, 1966, you hear that Bernie McGann was already one of the great Australian jazz stylists. At that time, the only publicly available recording he made was two tracks on the Jazz Australia compilation (1967). Two years earlier, McGann was living in Auckland, New Zealand (1963-64). It was here that he worked regularly with Kim Paterson, Andy Brown, and pianist Dave MacRae, and the basis of this band came into being. "Lazy Days", "Chuggin'", and "Sky" were salvaged from a cassette in Kim Paterson's collection, one of the few remaining copies. Originally intended for a radio broadcast, the master tapes were reportedly destroyed after the session. "Rhythm-a-Ning" and "When Will The Blues Leave?" were taped by Trevor Graham at the Wayside Chapel in King's Cross. Graham was a Sydney music journalist and ally of the avant-garde, with the foresight to capture some of what was happening at the time. This album is also notable for a rare appearance by the mysterious American drummer George Neidorf (misspelt as "Neidori" in the liner notes on the first Soft Machine album), an early influence on drummer Robert Wyatt. Field recordings of a major artist in strong company -- a lost treasure of Antipodean modern jazz. Personnel: Bernie McGann - alto sax; Kim Paterson - trumpet; Bobby Gebert - piano (side A); Andy Brown - bass; George Neidorf - drums. Recorded by Trevor Graham in Sydney, Australia (copyright 1966). Tip-on jacket with insert. "There is no more engaging nor distinctive alto saxophone sound on the planet than McGann's." --Sydney Morning "McGann takes the language of bebop then bends and stretches it to fit the contours of his own remarkable imagination." --The Wire "Bernie McGann's sound is exciting and physical, as heated as any post-coltrane modernist." --Downbeat

Signing to Arista had given us the means and funds to take us to the next level and we were itching to get started. We had new equipment, the status of being a 'signed band' and we hoped the backing and finances of a record company that believed as we did, that we could be big. Not 'pop star big' that was never for us, but 'big' like Pink Floyd who didn't have to care about 'pop' singles. We were young and naive, even idealistic. Having always been drawn to music, dance and literature, she initially wanted to become a music teacher with little ambitions to compose or be on stage. A program by the local Goethe Institute sparked her passion for Jazz and eventually led her to become a performing artist. Inspired by the music of Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nancy Wilson, Enji started writing songs of her own, cherishing this newfound means of expression. Having assembled a collection of 13 pieces of proper flaskpost-disko, these demos were passed on to Studio Barnhus' in-house mix master Matt Karmil, who worked his studio magic on the recordings, turning them into a seductively warm and spacious debut album. "Until then, our only expenditures for the album were wine bottles and taxis," says the band. This isn't the first time Miljon has teamed up with Studio Barnhus, the ever-explorative Stockholm dance label. The band collaborated with Barnhus co-founder Axel Boman on the wistful piano-house ballad "Forgot About You" in 2018 ("a summer anthem ... a marvel of simplicity" --Pitchfork) and the label's core personnel are all regulars at Arranging Things, the design store ("Stockholm's coolest" --Vogue) that Lisa runs with another friend. Going further back, Miljon isn't the first musical project of neither Lisa nor Jon's -- the former enjoyed her fair share of '00s indie rock success as drummer and eventually lead singer of The Concretes, while Jon has earned a reputation as the hardest working man in several Swedish music scenes, bringing energy and expertise to punk stages around the country as well as Stockholm's electronic underground. With Miljon, the two friends make sure to keep it short and sweet, happily celebrating imperfections. "We believe in 'first thought, best thought' and try to work on the songs as little as possible, instead trusting a good melody and a nice vibe, not overthinking it. We dare you to find a bridge on this album!" With Don't They Know, the duo presents not only 13 beautiful songs (perfect for shower-humming, living room shuffling and warm summer night boombox-blasting alike) but also an album that turns into something grander than the sum of its parts. "We made it because it's the kind of album we've been wanting to hear ourselves. It's all quite song-centric these days and it feels rare to find a whole album to step into and stay inside, you know? We hear great songs all the time, but we wanted an album that was its own little universe, with its own mayor, own happy hour, its own yard sales and extramarital affairs."

JANSCH, BERT Rosemary Lane LP
2021 restock. "By the time Rosemary Lane was released in 1971, Bert Jansch had covered a great deal of territory on numerous albums as a solo artist, collaborations with John Renbourn and records by the band in which he and Renbourn sang and played guitar, Pentangle. Returning to the intimate economy of his self-titled debut LP from a half-dozen or so years earlier, Rosemary Lane was recorded on portable equipment by engineer/producer Bill Leader and featured Jansch with no accompaniment save his guitar and voice. Rosemary Lane has elements of many of the styles Jansch covered in his extraordinarily eclectic career -- from the folk and blues that were his bedrock to medieval music -- yet cuts to the heart of his strength as spell-binding storyteller and empathic interpreter of isolation and want. Occasional instrumentals vary the mood that, like much of his work, is usually somber and introspective. Jansch once again lights the way forward with detours through the past. His sparse arrangements seamlessly merge original songwriting and traditional folk songs, while Jansch's imaginative lyrics charm every step of the way -- as if speaking directly to the listener alone. This vinyl release has been carefully remastered from the original master tapes and features liner notes by Richie Unterberger."

HELIOS Eingya LP
Vinyl reissue of Helios's breakthrough album, Eingya, originally released in 2006. Eingya by Helios, aka Keith Kenniff, returns in a new 2021 edition vinyl re-release, remastered by Taylor Deupree. Beginning the album on a high with the pastoral beauty of "Bless This Morning Year", Kenniff showcases of what he does best: heartbreaking guitar and piano melodies punctuated by crumbling beats and backed by the most atmospheric synthesizer sounds this side of Eno's Apollo. The appetizing "Halving The Compass" blends subtle field recording with the kind of piano melodies so beautiful they could be compared to Virginia Astley or Harold Budd. This is followed by the album's clear highlight, "Dragonfly Across An Ancient Sky". It's an unsurpassable folk guitar piece with a decomposing percussive background and the sort of melodies that would turn evil tyrants into weeping babies. An album that could appeal as easily to fans of Nick Drake as to fans of Boards of Canada or even early Air, this truly has something for everyone. Raised in rural Pennsylvania, Kenniff put out Helios's 2004 debut album, Unomia (UNSEENRE 001LP), while studying percussion at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Since then, he's released six more albums as Helios, in addition to collaborating with his wife Hollie Kenniff in the shoegaze-inspired pop duo Mint Julep and composing music for films and archival use. "A protracted sunset of an album guaranteed to see you through the longest days of summer and into the twilight of the autumn." --The Wire "A soundtrack of molasses-sweet, midsummer sunset melancholy and pastoral mellifluence." --Tinymixtapes. BAD BRAINS Black Dots LP
Very limited restock. By the early summer of 1979 the Bad Brains were already tearing up Washington D.C. They were armed with a tape they made at rehearsal, a real rugged thing, and were looking for people to play it to. The Slickee Boys heard it and suggested the band go out to record these songs at the fledgling Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA. What you are holding in your hands is the band's first full-length session of any kind in a recording studio. At that time, Inner Ear was Don Zientara's basement. Don had a four-track Teac 1/4" tape deck and a small drum booth to one side of the basement. Doc and Darryl set up in the main space while Earl somehow got himself into the "closet" with his drum kit. HR was in the backyard with the vocal mic (you can hear Don's son speaking to HR between tracks along with some crickets, too) and Don was set up in the kitchen upstairs. This day everything was just right and the band played straight through their live set of that time including "Black Dots" and "Pay to Cum," songs that were just too fast to ever be performed live to the band's satisfaction. The set on this record represents all of the band's songs, their first month's output, starting with the first song the band ever wrote, "Don't Need It." As is true with all four-track recordings, some decisions were made "going to tape," most notable is the eerie reverb on the drums, and these choices are forever a part of the mix. Formed as Mind Power a year earlier, it wasn't until their early vocalist Sid McCray showed up at Darryl's apartment in SE D.C. with his records and safety pins that the band transformed itself into the progressive punk outfit now known as Bad Brains. They were one dose Dead Boys topped off with a couple of shots of The Damned mixed with the Sex Pistols and The Clash. All the material on this record was written while the band lived together in a house on Bayway in Maryland. Doc had acquired the house from the manager of the Rustler Steak House where he had been working. HR and Darryl got jobs there as well, though they didn't last and ended up washing cars at the dealership down the street. Earl was washing clothes at the community hospital. Doc then got a job for himself and HR at Atlantic Research and Development, a bomb factory that manufactured Stinger and MX missiles. Darryl, without a driver's license, would pick them up from there at midnight and take them to rehearsal at the Bayway house. They lived at that house for about six months from late 1978 to mid-1979. They left after playing a series of basement shows at parties they threw. Sid would get on stage and start the set singing "Regulator." His girlfriend Tally would run on stage, tackle him and knock him off the stage and HR would then take the mic for the rest of the show. It wasn't long before Sid left the singing completely to HR and all of his sonorous vocalizations and lyricism. Needless to say, the house got a bit trashed and when they vacated Darryl moved in with Sid and everyone else moved back in with their parents. The next step was their first club shows; at the Atlantis (later named the 9:30 Club) and Madam's Organ (in Adams Morgan, MO with the Yippies and Youth Against Racism), conquering the D.C. punk/new wave scene with their sonic onslaught and clever musical curves. It was at this point that this record was made. Darryl got thrown out into the street by the bouncers after the band opened for The Damned at the Bayou, resulting in the band being banned from the club. With the Atlantis in reconstruction and the Bayou now off-limits, the possibilities in D.C. were shrinking for the band. New York had CBGB's, Max's Kansas City, Tier 3, 2 + 2, A7, Hurrahs, The Eighties, The Pep lounge and squats. The scene was jumping so the band headed off to NYC for the first time. They never looked back. On 180 gram vinyl with a full-color innersleeve.

In 2005, rumors began circulating about an album called Jay Love Japan, a J Dilla solo project inspired by one of Jay Dee's favorite locations to visit on tour. After Dilla's untimely death in early 2006, the album became a lost classic shrouded in mystery, with only unofficial bootlegs and promo versions available. JOY DIVISION Love Will Tear Us Apart LP
2021 repress. Love Will Tear Us Apart should have been the band's most shining moment, instead it became their tragic swan song. This special edition features all three versions of the song that transformed Joy Division from mere band into legend. In addition to the original single version, we have two versions remixed by American producers Don Gehman of John Mellencamp fame (the 'radio version') and Arthur Baker (who also produced a hit single for Africa Bambaataa around this same time). The remaining tracks include "These Days" (which appeared on the original "Love Will Tear Us Apart" single), along with "Transmission" (their debut single released in 1979) and "Atmosphere" (originally released as a France-only single) in 1980.

AMON DUUL Paradieswärtz Düül LP
Originally released in 1971. "Recorded in 1971, Amon Düül's only album for Ohr was a visionary slice of acid-folk which has gained cult status as years passed by. Ritualistic folk-rock, pastoral hippie songs, stoned jams, Eastern flavors, mystical passages and heavy hypnotic riffing which are in fact very different from the early Amon Düül epic freaked-out improvisations (Psychedelic Underground) or Amon Düül II complex and psyched-up progressive works (Phallus Dei). These were in fact archival recordings done by a different incarnation of Amon Duul, one that combined members of both factions into a floating line up welcoming many a guest, and which were released by R.U. Kaiser without the musicians knowledge or authorization, most likely in order to catch up with Amon Düül II rising popularity. All in all, a mythical recording featuring such underground classics as 'Love Is Peace,' 'Snow Your Thurst Sun Open Your Mouth' and 'Paramechanische Welt.' Included also on our edition is their sought after Ohr single: 'Paramechanical World' / 'Eternal Flow.' Another legendary title from the Ohr catalogue rescued by Wah Wah for your listening pleasure. ICTUS (CENTAZZO/BATTISTON/FERUGLIO) Ictus LP
2015 reissue. Originally released in 1974. "A real masterpiece... dreamy improvised music with eastern influences and electronics! Before his magnificent experiments with electronic music on Elektrictus (previously reissued on Wah Wah), Andrea Centazzo was already an accomplished musician who had issued his recorded works on the PDU and RCA labels. His first release was Ictus, a free-form avantgarde jazz odyssey on which he already started to experiment with electronic generated sounds. Ictus was a band formed by Centazzo, Armando Battiston and Franco Feruglio, although back in the day the sleeve of the PDU release credited the work only to Centazzo, and as if Ictus was simply the title of the album. This was a big mistake that we have been asked to correct in our reissue. A brave drummer and percussionist, on this album Centazzo also played flute, synths and sang. He was joined on some tracks by Franco Feruglio on bass and double bass and Armando Battiston on keyboards. It has been compared to Soft Machine's Third or Wolfgang Dauner's Et Cetera. It was originally released in 1974 and it gets its first ever vinyl reissue here, housed in a gatefold cover in a 500 copies limited edition." "Centazzo has been praised for his ability to 'synthesize Oriental percussive vibration with timbal understanding of contemporary music and the soul of jazz and rock.' Centazzo first attracted attention as a sideman for such avant-garde artists as John Zorn, Steve Lacy, and Don Cherry. The possessor of a doctorate in musicology, he has taught seminars and workshops in Europe and the United States. A prolific writer, Centazzo has composed more than 350 pieces and has authored eight books on musicology." --Craig Harris, All Music Guide

ZWEISTEIN Trip - Flip Out - Meditation 3LP/7"
2017 reissue. Originally released in 1970. "Zweistein was the brainchild of Suzanne Doucet, who was joined by her sister Diane during the recording process, with added studio effects by Peter Kramper. Doucet spent the first part of 60's as a pop star -- gathering number of hits, and as a TV presenter. Filled with a radical spirit, a love of art and technology, and fueled by a heavy intake of psychedelic drugs, her successes proved unfulfilling by the end of the decade. Zweistein was born. The album, which stretches over three LPs, each with its own theme -- Trip, Flip Out, and Meditation, is a writhing radical construction in sound -- far closer to the revolutionary gestures of synthesis, electronic and electroacoustic practice emerging during that era, than what is commonly associated with Krautrock or Kosmische. Almost completely abstract, with passages of fleeting melody and drone - enveloping landscapes realized through sound, Trip Flip Out Meditation is pure art, creativity, and experimentation, filtered through the lens of LSD -- the heights of the era and all the wonders it brought, with an unmistakable, overt attack on the pop sensibility of its day. An artist diving underground, rearing their head into the mainstream with a thrust of what was found. An astonishing edition -- double gatefold, silver engraved gimmick sleeve, 3LP plus a bonus 7" single w/PS and a colour insert. Limited to 1000 copies."

URBAN SAX Urban Sax 1 LP
2016 reissue. Originally released in 1977. "Much-needed reissue of these incredible LPs. Urban Sax's debut LP was issued in 1977 on Cobra, recalling the best Terry Riley, stunningly psychedelic, it's the perfect combination of hazy, fluttering psychedelia and tough, tactile reed work. Urban Sax was created in 1973. Gilbert Artman, the mastermind behind Lard Free -- who has also participated in dozens of recordings by other artists of the French experimental scene that included Delired Chameleon Family, Clear Light, Komintern, etc.- developed an interest in the relation between space and sound. He organised a first experiment that took place in the town of Menton, in the South of France. Artman strategically placed 18 saxophonists, and their sound reverberated through all the village. As time went by the band increased and currently their performances count with up to 34 saxophonists, 1 bass player, 3 percussionists, 2 dancers and 8 vocalists, with a line-up that varies depending on each particular project. You can find saxophonists playing over rooftops, or climbing down buildings or arriving in helicopters. It is a fascinating experience that can be hardly translated to vinyl, but through the years they have recorded some of their music and here we are proud to offer vinyl reissues of those works, including one previously released on vinyl format!"

Actually it features parts 2 and 3 of the pieces contained on 1, again similarities with works by La Monte Young, Phil Niblock, Glenn Branca, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, a.o. are present, and it's the perfect companion to 1 as it is, basically, part two of that first album. a spiral malax of surreal, undulating soundscapes. URBAN SAX Fraction Sur Le Temps LP
2016 release. Originally released in 1985. "Urban Sax's third LP was recorded in 1982 & 1985, and released in 1985 on Celluloid, and it is an absolute diamond -- sharing Julian Cope words 'Everything starts with this massive (and I mean it... we're basically talking about something the size of an orchestra here) wash of sound, like something dropped wholesale out of the trippier parts of Ligeti's material in the 2001 soundtrack. Then we get swept into the primal repetition of a simple motif... very Magma-like, save for the obvious difference in forces. As the proceedings go on, it gets more complex; another wash, and then into another primal minimalist cycling with strange, otherworldly drones and choral voices in the background, chuffing percussion... and then a drift off into Ligeti-land again, with chanting vocals following, and huge gusts of wind from the sax players breathing thru their horns as some sort of Saturnian Sun Ra lullabye starts to course through the group. And that's just the first half. This is some potent stuff. It's very much 'ritual music', as one would expect with it being composed for Urban Sax's ritualistic performances. And it's quite trippy, especially for something largely acoustic (although there are four presumably electric guitars in the forces) with little electronic tinkerage to enhance the strangeness.' Urban Sax was created in 1973. Previously it had only been available on an impossible to find CD, consisting of eight short-to-mid-length pieces, the major change being the prominence of the 22-piece choir, which shares the spotlight equally with the saxes, and three vibraphones, all which results in a far more ethereal and majestic sound than its predecessors. Urban Sax was created in 1973. BOOK OF INTXIXU, THE My Immortality/My Moon Goddess Magic 2LP
2016 release. "Juan Arkotxa, Leslie MacKenzie and Carmeta Mansilla were the creators of The Book Of Am. The Book Of Intxitxu was another of their works, they began working on its songs and illustrations just after they finished the four parts of The Book Of Am in the late 1970s. It contained, again, a collection of illustrations plus three hours of music. The book was first published in 1982 by Desclee de la Brouwer (Bilbao) in a bilingual Basque-Spanish edition. In 1983 IZ issued a cassette containing a selection of the songs sung in Basque by Juan. A part of it was later performed with mime artists at the short-lived Stonehenge Festival in 1983. Conceptually it is again influenced by ancient myths and cults, you can find references to Sumerian hero Gilgamesh, the Meditarranean Moon Goddess cult, the hallucinogenic mushroom taker and healing woman from Oaxaca Maria Sabina, the works of Robert Graves, etc. Musically, it follows the ethereal folk path set by their previous works, with an acid atmosphere and a progressive appeal that offers some heavier psychedelic passages due to a higher use of electric guitar pyrotechnics. Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth guested as musicians, so here's one of his last recordings, as are also the last by Carmeta Mansilla, since sadly she also passed away recently. Will Z, oG, Majnun and Sammy helped Juan and Leslie rescue the old material and shape it into this gorgeous 2LP set with a 24-page booklet containing all the illustrations made for the Book. Please note it is a limited edition of only 500 copies, do not miss it and complete your Book Of Am saga collection!"

Popol Vuh had moved again one step farther, ellaborating a complex world music opus based mainly on acoustic instruments plus Fichelscher's electric guitar and the use of multitracked vocals to reproduce the sounds of Tibetan monk chants. Florian was and remains to be an important forerunner of contemporary ethnic and religious music. (Klaus Schulze: 'I experienced a lot through Florian's music. BOCQUET, DIDIER Voyage Cerebral LP

Like the first album, it was recorded on his own private studio and self-released, this time via legendary french custom label FVLM ('Faites Le Vous-Même', meaning 'Do It Yourself'). Inspired by the first wave of German kosmische sound-travellers (Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream and the whole Berlin School spring immediately to mind) but retaining that typical French urgency that places it close to Heldon/Pinhas, Lard Free or even Besombes/Rizet territory. In-your-face sequenced electronic music that sounds both spacy and violent at the same time whilst keeping a certain lo-fi, self-produced vibe. PERREY, JEAN JACQUES Musique Electronique du Cosmos LP
2017 release. Originally released in 1962. "Jean-Jacques Perrey has long been recognized as a pioneer of electronic music. Along with his musical partner at the time, Gershon Kingsley, the duo recorded a landmark album: The In Sound From Way Out, which was released by Vanguard Records in 1966. Perrey went on to record over 24 more albums of electronic music during his lifetime. But prior to this seminal electronic album Perrey already had an impressive career as an electronic music pioneer, having been the demo man for Georges Jenny's Ondioline, one of the very first proto-synthesizers. Musique Electronic du Cosmos actually predates The In Sound From Way Out. The exact date is unknown, but it was probably recorded around 1962-3. Only 500 copies of Musique Electronique du Cosmos were produced. Some of the songs from this album later turned up on television commercials, most notably the song 'Chicken On The Rocks', which was used in a television commercial by the Ideal Toy Company in the '60s. The tracks on side 2 of this reissue are from a very rare demonstration disc. Only one copy of this record is known to exist. It was purchased in an eBay auction by Spanish record collector and DJ, Raül G. Pratginestós (a.k.a. DJ Zero). As the hand-typed record label shows, the songs were originally transferred from tape to disc at A&R Recording, a studio owned and operated by New Yorkers Jack Arnold and Phil Ramone. (Ramone went on to become one of the most successful record producers of all time.) It is difficult to place a date as to when this acetate record was cut, but Perrey left New York in early 1971, so it would certainly have been from before that."

Siloah are one of the best kept secrets of the krautrock production. Siloah had a hardcore including Thom Argauer, Manuela von Perfall, Heinrich 'Tiny' Stricker and Wolfgang Görner, plus a host of guests coming and going, everybody was free to join and play at any time, guest members often joining from the Baumstassen commune around which the band was living before they eventually moved to an abandoned farm on the outskirts of town A collective hippie musical tribe largely inspired by mysticism, LSD and sexadelism. Their music features a heavy use of stoned vocals (in English), mantric like guitar parts, flute, "ethnic" percussions. Their first drugged item released in 1970 offers a dangerous and imaginative ocean of trippy, perpetual jams. A bombastic psychedelic explosion in the mood of the best German prog folk releases. The atmospheres are beautifully 'acoustic', sometimes dreamy and ethereal but never away from krautrock 'primitive' sound."

SILOAH Sukram Gurk LP + 7"
2018 release. Originally released in 1972. "Sukram Gurk was the title chosen for the Siloah second LP. It was the name of Markus Krug spelled backwards. Markus' name was chosen because it was the one that sounded better phonetically to the ears of the trio. The sound of the album takes it all one step further, turning into an electric storm, yet retaining the free psychedelic improvisation feel of its predecessor."

CAN AM DES PUIG The Book of AM Part V: Night LP
Originally released in 2018. "The Book of AM is a collection of inspirational songs, poems and stories composed in different parts of the world through the millennia up to the present day and edited and set to music and graphics by Juan Arkotxa and Leslie MacKenzie. The Book expresses core themes from Eastern and Western philosophical and religious traditions and it follows the cycle of day with five parts - Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night. When the Book was first published in 1977 the incomplete Part V, Night, was not incorporated into the four part publication (Part I published in Paris 1978, and Parts I, 2, 3, and 4 were published by Wah-Wah Records in 2004 and 2010). At last the final part Night has been completed and is presented here as the conclusion of this long project. We have used recordings from that time, 1977, and combined with musical and technical collaboration, mainly from og, (introduced to us by the member of the Book of AM team Will Z and also part of the Belgium group Cosmic Trip Machine) who joined us for this project and has brought his own form of genius to the mix, adding, along with Will Z, extra overdubs to our original recordings, as well as making an invaluable contribution to the composition, mixing and mastering by which we have achieved a sound different from the previous AM albums, more ethereal and informal but at the same time surprising and powerful which steps out of the standard songs format and creates a befitting space for the nocturnal and final mood of this project."

XOLOTL, BERNARD Music by Xolotl LP + 7"
2019 reissue. Originally released in 1978. "Edition of 500. First ever vinyl edition of the amazing Music By Xolotl, originally issued only on cassette by Unity Records in 1978. Painter and musician Bernard Xolotl was born in France in 1951. As a teen, he was introduced to electronic music through the works of musique concrete composers like Pierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer, although he found the early recordings of Pink Floyd to be more inspirational. During the summer of 1970 while stopping in Belgium, he found a vast Library with rare books on pre-Colombian history, mythology, and Art, and after deep insights into this cosmogony, he took the name 'Xolotl' by which he has been known ever since. After moving to California, he was introduced to the Serge Modular Synthesizer through Eliane Radigue and registered for classes in all the colleges of the Bay where there was an Electronic Music Department so that he could use their various electronic instruments. At first, he often plugged in his electric guitar into these monsters rather than use the rather rigid sequencers, but through tape recorders and the delay techniques used by Terry Riley, he was able to quickly combine these 'sound producing devices' to create his own music. He eventually released his first 'official' album named simply Music by Xolotl in 1977. Originally issued only in cassette, Wah Wah offers the chance of listening to these works on vinyl format for the first time ever on an LP + bonus 7" edition to fit all the sounds from the cassette."

ALICE ISLAND BAND Splendid Isolation LP
2019 reissue. Originally released in 1974. "Originally pressed in a limited run of 1000 numbered copies in December 1974 The Alice Island Band is one of the rarest UK folk private pressings, having sold in auction for over 600 pounds. Little would school friends Keith Hughes, Tim Phillips and Roger Moore imagine that when they formed The Conqueroos blues band back and subsequent projects like Cinderella's Party Songbook from 1967. By 1974, Keith, Tim and Roger were ready for something special, and the arrival of Cinny -- the 'Princess' from the principality of Wales -- completed the line-up for the next LP. They became The Alice Island Band and recorded Splendid Isolation -- Tim, Keith and Cinny played, Roger produced and recorded the 14 songs, some of which had been conceived back in 1968. For those into the UK folk and psych scenes who love the homemade recordings of Peter Howell and John Ferdinando's projects (Tomorrow Come Someday, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Agincourt, Ithaca...), the bare, raw sound of Comus or those impossibly rare folk albums cut through the Deroy Sound Services -- but also for lovers of good crafted songs with male & female vocals and mostly acoustic performances. Done in close cooperation with Keith and Roger who have been very kind to provide original masters, information and photos for the gatefold insert which also includes the original lyrics."

MOORE, ANTHONY Pieces From The Cloudland Ballroom LP
2019 reissue. Originally released in 1971. "Pieces From the Cloudland Ballroom is the first solo LP by Anthony Moore, originally on Polydor. It was released in 1971 under the production of Uwe Nettlebeck and featured Anthony Moore on conduction, Ulf Kenklies, Glyn Davenport and Gieske Hof-Helmers on vocals, plus Werner 'Zappa' Diermeier on hi-hat. Moore is best known as a founder of the progressive rock band Slapp Happy but has also written lyrics for Pink Floyd(!) Pure minimalist experimentation with echoes of Richard Young's Advent or even Moondog, done just a month after Faust (who included Werner 'Zappa' Diermeier) recorded their first LP. The missing link between British 'art-rock' and the German 'krautrock' scenes! This reissue is done in collaboration with Anthony Moore himself and comes housed in its original artwork."

MOORE, ANTHONY Secrets Of The Blue Bag LP
2019 reissue. Originally released in 1972. "British experimental musician, composer, performer and producer Anthony Moore was a founding member of Slap Happy and has worked with Henry Cow, Kevin Ayers, and Pink Floyd among other great names in the British scene. In 1971 he moved to Hamburg, Germany, and worked in the boiling experimental scene of the city. As a result, two LPs were issued on Polydor Germany in 1971 and 1972, right before forming Slap Happy with old school pal Peter Blegvad and Dagmar Krause. Secrets of the Blue Bag, Moore's second solo LP, was issued in 1972 but recorded in the Fall of 1971, just a bit before Slap Happy were backed by Faust on the recording sessions of their first album. Anthony Moore was joined by soprano Geeske Hof-Helmers, violinists Toni Sen and Patrick Strub, celloist Rolph Braun and Wolf Schreiber on fagott. The missing link between British 'art-rock' and the German 'krautrock' scenes! This reissue is done in collaboration with Anthony Moore himself and comes housed in its original artwork."

ALBERGO INTERGALATTICO SPAZIALE Albergo Intergalattico Spaziale LP + 7"
2020 reissue. Originally released in 1978. "Giacomo 'Mino' di Martino started his musical career in several early 1960s Italian beat bands. By 1968 he had found enormous success with pop superstars I Giganti. After a brief split in 1970 -- during which Mino formed Il Supergruppo with Ricky Gianco and other greats of the Italian scene -- he came back to I Giganti in 1971. With them and with new advanced ideas that set the band pretty far away from the sophisticated pop and beat sounds they had been so successful with, they would record the amazing Terra in Bocca conceptual LP, an adventurous experimental album that explored the obscure connections between the Italian state and the mafia. A delicate topic full of political criticism which also found them having to fight censorship -- it was played only once in the radio. This fact, along with the advanced new sound probably being too far ahead from the mainstream audience's taste, turned the record into a commercial flop. Nowadays Terra in Bocca is a highly regarded album among critics, afficionados and collectors, and a pretty seminal one for the Italian scene of the seventies, since it can even be seen as a precursor to the works on the Cramps label. Gianni Sassi, producer and photographer who founded Cramps was involved in the release of Terra in Bocca -- his is the amazing cover concept. After the Terra in Bocca experience, Mino's will was to keep exploring new musical paths and free his mind to experimentation. Along with his wife, actress and singer Edda 'Terra' di Benedetto, they formed the Albergo Intergalattico Spaziale, just after the brief post-Giganti project Telaio Magnetico (with Franco Batiatto, among others) was over. The Albergo was a venue where artists from diverse disciplines, mainly musica and theatre, could meet and create works together. On the musical side of the community, Mino and Terra explored the cosmic sonorities that were coming from Germany and mixed them with the Italian experimental scene of names like Franco Battiato, Luciano Berio or Roberto Cacciapaglia. It is from the sessions that took place in the Albergo from 1974 onwards that the Albergo Intergalattico Spaziale LP came out. Originally released in 1978 the compositions had been made during those years of exploration, the goal not being the release of an album but the aim to explore new sounds and experiment with music. Eventually it was decided to present a sample of all that work, and a few copies of the Albergo Intergalattico Spaziale LP were privately pressed. The record sleeve and notes on the insert revindicate the fight against nuclear power. The music is dominated by Mino's keyboards, creating amazing space sounds reminiscent of those from 1950s and 1960s science fiction B movies brought to the most avantgardist experimentation of the moment, exploring new sounds with the newest keyboards available. This intriguing background sets the atmosphere for Terra's voice to improvise all over."

SYLVIA Sweet Stuff LP
Wewantsounds reissue Sylvia Robinson's super rare soul LP released in 1975 on her Vibration label, part of her All-Platinum/Stang/Turbo empire. Sweet Stuff features several Sylvia cult classics including "Private Performance," "Soul Je T'aime", a cover of Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus" and the mellow favorite "Sho Nuff Boogie" recorded with The Moments. As bonus tracks, the release features "Sho Nuff Boogie, Part 2" which only came out as the single's B-side at the time and the long version of "Soul Je T'aime". Born and raised in New York, Sylvia Robinson began recording at a young age under the name "Little Sylvia" in the early 1950s. She gained exposure when she teamed up with Mickey Baker scoring a hit in 1956 with "Love Is Strange" as Mickey & Sylvia. She went on to record many singles during the late '50s and '60s before setting up her own label, All Platinum Records in 1966 followed by Stang Records and Vibration. Through these labels, she had several hit records in the '70s as a producer including The Moments' "Love On A Two Way Street" and Shirley & Co's "Shame Shame Shame". Sylvia Robinson continued to record as a solo artist shortening her name as "Sylvia". She got a massive hit of her own with "Pillow Talk" in 1973, a song she'd originally penned with Al Green in mind. The song went to #3 in the charts and started a string of other hits over the next few years. In 1973 she covered Serge Gainsbourg's 1969 megahit "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus" renaming it here "Soul Je T'Aime" and duetting with Fania Records' Latin soul singer Ralfi Pagan. The following year was also busy for the singer and producer with three singles that went to the R&B chart: the Soul Ballad "Alfredo", the funky "Private Performance" and "Sho Nuff Boogie," sung with The Moments. They are all featured on the album Sweet Stuff which was released in 1975. Interestingly the song "Sweet Stuff" notoriously sampled by J Dilla for "Crushin'" doesn't appear on this album even if "Sho Nuff Boogie" sounds very much like a forerunner of the song with its similar languorous pace and almost identical melody. Four years later in 1979, Sylvia Robinson would make another genius move with the launch of Sugarhill Records and the Sugarhill Gang's single "Rapper's Delight" which would revolutionize music and almost single-handedly launch hip-hop but that's another chapter of Sylvia Robinson's life.

PANHUYSEN, PAUL Partitas for Long Strings CD
2021 restock; 1998 release. Voted one of the top 50 records of 1999 by the writers and critics of The Wire, Partitas for Long Strings is the first album in 12 years to document Paul Panhuysen's work with long string installations. Included with the CD is a 32-page booklet which details the history of Paul Panhuysen's work with installations through pictures and text. "Since 1982 Panhuysen has created over 200 such installations, playing the strings with his fingers, connecting them to pianos, letting them vibrate in the wind, always changing, always finding new sounds, and doing so with a particularly good sense of how the strings should look, and how they should relate to the architecture around them" --Tom Johnson. "Two aspects were of central interest to him: different tunings and density of sound. He made an installation in the large space of Het Apollohuis, stretching four strings lengthwise and attaching them to the wooden wall on the far end, which served as a resonator. He did not use automatons or electric amplification. He played the strings by brushing them, walking back and forth at an even pace. His aim was to make his playing as continuous and even as possible. For each partita he recorded his playing four times, superimposing these recordings over each other and listening to the earlier recordings over headphones whilst playing. The total sound of each partita is produced by sixteen strings. The three partitas differ in the systems according to which the strings are tuned. These tunings can be regarded as the score for each piece. In 'Partita I' all strings are tuned to the same pitch. In 'Partita II' and 'III' each string is tuned differently, and after each take they were tuned to new pitches... The result is a considerable difference in overall texture between the three pieces." --René van Peer
