GALAXIE 500 On Fire LP
2021 repress. "On Fire is widely recognized as the canonic pinnacle of Galaxie 500's career. The artwork conveys this, with a low-angle shot of the band, looking up towards an amber sky. This record marked the realization of their signature sound. Nowhere is it clearer than on the album opener, 'Blue Thunder,' the closest a song can come to waves crashing on a beach in song form. Lyrically inconsequential, with a chorus composed entirely of 'las', the track's power lies in a systematic build and break of intensity that reaches a Spector-like climax. It is the quintessential Galaxie 500 song, encapsulating all that was great about the band. For the first time since its original pressing, On Fire is available again on vinyl. Cut by vinyl ace Kevin Gray from a remaster by Kramer and Alan Douches, the album sounds more vibrant than ever, and Galaxie 500 exists again as one of the most enrapturing and glorious bands to emerge from the underground in the past 25 years."

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Bravery, Repetition And Noise LP
2021 repress; black vinyl. LP version, gatefold sleeve. Originally released in 2001. Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a dark, dreamy album, rich in atmosphere, layered in waves of sound. The album's antecedents are clear, inspired by psychedelia as they were by punk's nihilism, pulling both strands into a doom-laden, experimental sound quite distinct from anything that had come before or since. Brian Jonestown Massacre uses this as their touchstone, lovingly re-creating the moods and atmospheres of the past.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Their Satanic Majesties Second Request 2LP
2021 repress; black vinyl. Gatefold 180 gram double vinyl version. Truth in advertising: the Brian Jonestown Massacre's sophomore album does, as promised, spring forth from the Rolling Stones' long-underrated 1967 masterpiece Their Satanic Majesties Request, copping not only Mick and Keith's leering bad-boy attitude but also their rock-and-roll-circus spirit. Opening with the brilliant "All Around You (Intro)," a tongue-in-cheek guide to the mind-altering journey ahead, the record is a kaleidoscopic, drug-fueled freakout -- like the Stones' namesake album, Second Request is painted by Eastern drones and psychedelic tangents, each track bubbling with dozens of sound effects including sitars, mellotrons, farfisas, didgeridoos, tablas, congas, and glockenspiels. Travelling through the past, darkly, the Massacre arrives on the other side unscathed; their music is too rich to be merely retro, and too knowing to be merely slavish -- the Stones themselves haven't made a record this strong or entertaining in years.

Recorded at legendary NY studio Funhouse by alternative rock supergroup, the Knoxville Girls, these recordings have remained mostly unheard so far. Here we have the original album as it was conceived with their pristine swamp, country, blues, and New York sound. Finally seeing the light of day here we have an unreleased album recorded in NYC in 1999 by this super band: Jerry Teel on vocals, guitar (The Chrome Cranks, Honeymoon Killers, Boss Hog, Big City Stompers), Kid Congo Powers on vocals, guitar (The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Butcher Shop), Jack Martin on guitar (Five Dollar Priest), Barry London on organ, piano, harp, Bob Bert on drums (The Chrome Cranks, Five Dollar Priest, Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch). Recorded at legendary NY studio Funhouse, these recordings have remained unheard so far (except the Tom Waits cover) and some of the tracks were afterwards rerecorded for their last album. But here we have the original album as it was conceived. An absolute must for fans of The Gun Club, The Beasts of Bourbon, etc. Edition of 500.

PURE HELL Noise Addiction LP
2021 restock. Beat Generation presents a reissue of Pure Hell sole full-length album, recorded in 1978 but not released until 2006. In 1974, on the streets of Philadelphia, a band unlike any other was formed. They called themselves Pretty Poison. They had a sound so ahead of its time that the music industry was not yet ready for it. They coupled the punk sound of the New York bands of the time with a harder, faster heavy metal edge unheard before. Their unique sound was a result of Kenny Gordon's berserk choreography and Preston Morris's needling guitar riffs, while Steel and Spider added synchronized barrage with no nonsense execution to the arsenal. Inspired by the famous fuel-altered dragster, they changed their name to Pure Hell in 1975. Soon after, they moved to New York City where they played with bands like the New York Dolls, Sid Vicious, Wayne County and the Electric Chairs, The Dead Boys, The Stimulators, Richard Hell, The Germs, The Nuns, The Cramps and more. In 1978 Pure Hell headlined a tour of the UK, with bands like the UK Subs, Wilko Johnson, Vermilion & the Aces and more opening for them. While in the UK, their only original record was released. It was a single released by their manager Curtis Knight on his label, Golden Sphinx Records. The songs on the single were "These Boots Were Made for Walking" and "No Rules." The single charted in the top 40 charts in the UK. During the same year, a full length album was recorded but was never released. It did not surface again for 28 years.

CALE, J.J. Closer To You LP+CD
2021 restock; LP version. First vinyl edition; 180 gram vinyl; printed inner-sleeve; Includes CD. Because Music present a reissue of JJ Cale's Closer To You, originally released in 1994. The album was published under the independent French label Delabel and distributed by Virgin Records. Personnel: JJ Cale - vocals, guitar, synthesizer; James Cruce - drums; Tim Drummond - bass; Jim Karstein - drums, percussion; Christine Lakeland - guitar, vocals (background); Bill Payne - keyboards; Don Preston - guitar."On the two albums that preceded Closer To You, Travel-Log (1989) and Number 10 (1992), JJ Cale adopted a more basic musical approach. This album continues the trend. Cale plays a few songs alone (though the overdubbed parts sound remarkably spare), including the title track. Closer To You finds him electronically treating his vocals, a technique that surprisingly makes him sound as down-to-earth as ever." --All Music

2021 repress. "In 1992 the Melvins' fascination/adoration/denigration of the mighty KISS rock and roll universe compelled them to excrete out three solo masterworks inspired by the KISS solo LPs. The first in the series is King Buzzo, from the Melvins' giggling guitar grumpus. Four songs of atmospheric clanging and rockin' banging. Also features the many talents, drumming and otherwise, of a famous Grunge superstar, whose name sort of rhymes with New Wave Asshole. The second in the series is Dale Crover, from the Melvins' sleepy drum caveman. Four songs of gloomy heaviness, with Dale doin' the drummin', singin', guitarin', and dancin'. The third in the series is Joe Preston, from the Melvins' electronic beard warlord. Three songs of fuzz bass computer drone temper tantrum. All three 12-inches reissued on vinyl after 100,000 years out of print."

CYRIL CYRIL Yallah Mickey Mouse LP
LP version. Includes printed undersleeve and download code. Cyril Cyril stirs the snow globe, Helvet underground as they are called. Cyril Cyril's Sunday is a trance, you arrive, people gather. The samples vocals, hesitates, moans a little, Miami Beach, OK let's go. This is how Cyril Cyril introduce their new album Yallah Mickey Mouse. Once again, they take back their instruments and their roots with their ruffled tips. It is not about untangling. The sonorities are sculpted in vibrating marbles with indocile fossils. A visionary sonic narration, an invitation to an unorganized journey. Multiple influences are called on in the frame of this project of personal emanations and studio research. A tribute to the friends of Hyperculte in memory of an Egyptian camel, winks to the phrasing of Cha Cha Guitry, to the animal of Gerard Manset or to the hand of Indochine. Cyril Bondi is at the drums with his custom instruments, his body is trained to the groove of the wizards, and the fanfare of delirious insects starts. Cyril Yeterian is on the banjo or on the electric guitar. His storyteller's voice, that has travelled time and migrations, resumes the stories suspended since our last meeting. Cyril Cyril carries our voices, including the ones of those who are no longer here. They come back, it's crazy how modern they are, and then without embarrassment too, without embarrassment and generous, happy to be able to regain a little youth, it looks lost, they sing. Cyril Cyril carries their voices. Reeds, hands, undulate, breathe, like this music. Cyril Cyril carries our bodies. The ternary scale of our emotions and our smiles that come back. The wave makes you lose control, but the harmonies gently overtake this feeling as you lay on the sand. Also, the irony. The figures of power, the small march of insects accompanies them while laughing, these presidents. And always the surprise, bells ring in all you ears, eyes, and hands. Cyril Cyril carries your senses. Cyril Cyril opens your mind. You resonate more and more, you get more and more entangled, everything intertwines, the sounds and their lights. The psychedelic organ melody accompanies the voice which rises in the higher frequencies, the percussions encourage you. You accelerate the pulsation, you get closer and stomp together, you want the head of Mickey Mouse. Echoes of bird songs, of a bestiary. You are animals, the carnival of animals.

THEE OH SEES Singles Collection Volume Three LP
2021 represses, vinyl only. 2013 release "It's no secret that John Dwyer and Thee Oh Sees put out a ton of stuff. Not just full-lengths -- of which there are many -- but singles, split releases, compilations and even books. The dude cooks in many kitchens, but the sauce is always tasty. Castle Face is proud to continue their tradition of occasionally corralling these rarer gems onto the convenient LP format. For even the most insane Oh Sees collectors, the inclusion of an unreleased, mutated live version of 'Block of Ice' makes this a must-have. To sweeten the deal, the tunes have been gussied up ever-so-slightly to knock you nightly, and the incredible tritone artwork by Shalo P is printed on blinding silver-foil jackets."

OH SEES Face Stabber 2LP
2021 repress, vinyl only. 2019 release. "Hey there, human kids, lift your face out of the feed trough and pluck that feculence from your ears. Hark! A sonar blip from beneath the pile of bodies -- the latest Oh Sees, Face Stabber! Boop, blip, ughhh.... people churning like a boiling swamp. Man, this din is nauseating. The screen flickers for the first time this year with a transmission from two months in the future: 'the internet has deemed guitar music dead and you are free to do whatever the fuck you like ....long live the new flesh!' This album is Soundcloud hip-hop reversed, a far flung nemesis of contemporary country and flaccid algorithmic pop-barf. No songs about money or love are floating in the ether. Just memories, echoes, foggy blurs, blip-blop goes the scope, heavy funk, dystopia-punk canons, long jams, bloated solos dribbling down your cavedin chest. Human cattle like a beef avalanche, right on your burned out face hole. Spider-legs fuzz crawling in your brain. Lots of curse words for your mom. You've gotten the over-population blues, so let's have some art for art's sake. What else are you gonna do? Stare at the sky? Please... fifty carbon copies of you look back at you as you walk the streets. Take a breath, you're going to need it. Take drugs, you're going to need those just to stand in line at the air and water reclamation center soon enough. There's no fruit, buddy. You're at the bleak-peak. They will squeeze you till you're all squeezed out. For fans of fried prog burn-out, squished old-school drool, double drums, lead weight bass, wizard keys (now with poison), old-ass guitar and horrible words with daft meanings. If you don't like it then don't listen, bub. Back to the comments section with you! Easy -- over and out."

Warehouse find, last copies. Cinedelic Records presents a reissue of Mario Molino's original soundtrack for Inside (1975). Mario Molino, one of the few composers-guitarists in the fascinating world of library music, created this original soundtrack for a documentary movie produced by RAI, the Italian national TV, of sci-fi environments by blending fuzz, distorted and psychedelic sounds with Hammond organ, clavinet and electronic effects played by himself to merge into symphonic epochal moments. Of the eight tracks that make up the album, many have cosmic krautrock moments. Inside was recorded in 1975 in the then renowned studios Fonit Cetra of Rome. "Tema Spazio" introduces us to the ethereal galaxy before we get into the mysterious stars of "Le Pleiadi" where Molino's prog-rock begins to take shape with fuzz guitar, drum-breaks, deep bass and an orchestra to strengthen the melody with an approach similar to Luis Bacalov for New Trolls (Concerto Grosso) and Rovescio della Medaglia (Contamination), but with spatial inspiration. "Finale Titoli" lends symphonic rock to blues moments; the eight minutes of "Tempesta" are definitely one of the most cosmic tunes where Molino, as well as the guitar, experiences a crescendo of electro-analog effects. "Tecnologia Moderna IIa Parte" is an obsessive psychedelic guitar and drums loop that recalls the Teutonic Can. Comes in a thick cover. Includes a digital download code. Edition of 500.

"Akhnaten is the third in the composer Philip Glass' trilogy of operas about men who changed the world in which they lived through the power of their ideas. Akhnaten's subject is religion. Its title was derived from the Egyptian pharaoh Akhnaten, who was the first monotheist in recorded story. His substitution of a one-god religion for the multi-god worship when he came to power ultimately resulted in his exclusion from lists of rulers compiled by later pharaohs, and his legacy became all but lost to history until the late 19th century. The opera describes the rise, reign, and fall of Akhnaten in a series of tableaus. 180 gram vinyl. Deluxe lift-off box set. Includes 16-page libretto booklet. The third in Glass' thematically related Portrait trilogy, along with Einstein On The Beach and Satyagraha."

During the '70s the Italian public television -- RAI -- used to broadcast disturbing and paranoid dramas, being the subject whether the bottom of the sea or the so-called "educational" movies. Obviously, all these images needed a musical counterpart. Libraries more often. These ad hoc soundtracks were handled by shady characters, a number of composers on the border of classical avant-garde, electronic space age and even breezy Italian pop. Some of those names are pretty much familiar: Ennio Morricone, for example. Or even mythological too, as in the case of Piero Umiliani. But the brightest and maybe the most inspiring was Egisto Macchi. E.S.P. was a four-part television series produced by Rai in 1973, directed by Daniele D'Anza, and aired from Sunday, May 27 1973 to Sunday, June 17, 1973.

WADA, YOSHI Lament For The Rise And Fall Of The Elephantine Crocodile LP
2021 restock. "Yoshi Wada's Lament For The Rise And Fall Of The Elephantine Crocodile, originally released in 1982 on India Navigation, remains one of the most remarkable flowers to grow in the rarefied air of American minimalism -- akin to Terry Riley's Reed Streams and Pauline Oliveros' Accordion & Voice, yet with a wild, liberated energy all of its own. After graduating from Kyoto University of Fine Arts with a degree in sculpture, Wada moved to New York City in 1967 and quickly fell in with the community of artists known as Fluxus. In the early '70s, he began building his own instruments and writing musical compositions, studying with La Monte Young and Hindustani singer Pandit Pran Nath. Recorded during an epic three-day session in an empty swimming pool in upstate New York, Wada's first album brings together two of the oldest drone instruments -- the human voice and bagpipes -- to simple and glorious effect. A visit to the Scottish Highlands spurred Wada's interest in bagpipes, which the composer integrated into these sparse, otherworldly sounds heard on Lament. 'That swimming pool was quite hallucinatory,' recalls Wada. 'It was another world. I felt it in terms of resonance. I slept in the pool, and whenever I moved, I woke up because of the reverberations... The piece itself is an experiment with reeds and improvisational singing within the modal structure.' This first-time vinyl reissue is limited to 750 numbered copies. Comes with poster."

"There's a sense of adventure in the grooves of Dereck Higgins's new album, Future Still. Like vaporwave of teens past, the sounds describe a future imagined by computer sounds of old. It's a joyous exploration: listening to Future Still feels like gliding smoothly through a bitstream, exploring digital vistas of liquid datascape. Nebraskan Dereck Higgins takes equal parts Kraftwerk, Prince and the Missouri River to come up with his own unique take on modern electronic music. He does this by laying down waves of sound that produce propulsive energy, which then mixes with water in the air, birthing glistening silver and gold droplets. A shimmering pattern is inscribed on the sky, spelling thoughts with shapes, coloring actions. A hue of golden pink, flashed through with emerald ivory. Opalescent mist of a tangerine dream. Dereck's history of involvement in Midwest music is decades long, primarily as a bass player in countless punk, psych and prog bands including Son Ambulance, RAF, InDREAMA, and Digital Sex. He also hosts a popular YouTube channel which has been described as 'comfort food for music nerds'. The last decade has seen a steady stream of self-released records of his own solo atmospheric electronics punctuated with psych workouts and the occasional pop song -- snapped up by the connoisseurs in his ever-growing fanbase. Future Still is his first release for FPE Records. The soundtrack to a world slowly re-emerging from lockdown, it's naturally full of openness -- even hope? Higgins declares his music is as full of feeling and soul as anything else around. Listen and feel it for yourself."

In the early '80s, Japan was in a flourishing bubble, becoming the world's second-largest economy, threatening to overtake the West with its cutting-edge innovation. Middle class Japanese citizens indulged in luxury clothes, imported wine, and international travel, enjoying unorthodox freedom. City pop emerged as the soundtrack to this cosmopolitan lifestyle: an ode to bright colors, sunny beaches and naive romances, with a clear West influence. Such influence also brought together the first health and fitness wave to Japan: for the first time, taking care of oneself was trendy, and "Aerobic", the word in everybody's mouth. Hyped by the momentum, both the Aerobic Fitness Association (A.F.A. U.S.A, still running) and the Nippon Aerobic Association put together a program to help audiences follow Aerobic classes on channel TBS. Not surprisingly they hired one of the most inspired young talents of the era, the guitarist Yuji Toriyama (now well-known as one of the fathers of Japanese fusion), to perform, together with Ken Morimura (keyboardist for the salsa band Orquesta Del Sol) a series of tracks that could help the viewers keep their body moving. As surprisingly as it seems, that fusion of killer boogie guitars and synths with kitsch aesthetics was made for exercising. Aerobics is a soundtrack made up of boogie beats that span the genres of funk, technopop and even city pop with the purpose of getting folks off their heinies and moving around rhythmically. As this album plays fully instrumental, Toriyama's rhythms and glossy arrangements melt together perfectly with uplifting synths and programmed drums to give birth to a distinguishable cheerful atmosphere. An Aerobic jam. A refreshing and vibrating experience from beginning to end to kick off the summer in perfect shape. First time reissue. Includes obi and original large poster with aerobic moves (with stretches and poses).

2021 restock, originally released in 2009. "Michael Hurley is one of the last remaining ramblin' American folk troubadours. Hobo-ing around the country, making music since the days Bob Dylan first set foot in New York City's Gaslight club, Hurley recorded his first album for Moses Ash's legendary Folkways label in 1964 and continued to release albums for both Warner Brothers and Rounder. His mid-'70s Have Moicy! album was among the top ten for the decade selected by Rolling Stone magazine. While many of his contemporaries are long past their prime (or deceased), Hurley's muse is still intact. Hurley's songwriting talent hasn't gone unnoticed by a new generation of musicians. In recent years, he was invited to tour with alt-country heroes Son Volt and Lucinda Williams. He's also shared bills with Smog and Palace Brothers, played with the Giant Sand rhythm section, and has of course appeared with (and been covered by) Vetiver and appeared on their records. His songs have also been covered by indie stars Cat Power and Yo La Tengo, among others. So, the matter at hand, a new album of recordings sung and played by Hurley, backed by Ida, appropriately titled Ida Con Snock: Snock himself marvels at this 21st studio album, recorded at Levon Helms' studio in Woodstock, NY. Ida's less-is-more finesse shines on these rich recordings, melding perfectly with Hurley's playing and singing. Many of these songs are already well familiar to Hurley's devotees. There are seven originals and five loving covers of '50s rock 'n' roll, C&W, and vintage folk, each tune capturing Hurley and band at peak performance levels."

LIPSTICK KILLERS Strange Flash - Studio & Live '78-'81 2CD
"Hindu Gods are calling -- Grown Up Wrong! Records is thrilled beyond belief to present the long-awaited anthology of material by the legendary Lipstick Killers, who blazed a trail in late '70s post-Radio Birdman Sydney before gigging with the likes of the Gun Club and the Flesh Eaters in Los Angeles, where they crashed and burned in 1981. The Lipstick Killers released just one single in their life time -- the perfect '79 Deniz Tek-produced pairing of 'Hindu Gods of Love' and 'Shakedown USA' on their own Lost In Space Records and Greg Shaw's Voxx Records -- but a posthumous live album and a couple of archival releases followed. It was all incredible. All that material is included here, as is a plethora of additional stuff, all from the best available sources (mostly original tapes). The Lipstick Killers' enigmatic and high-energy sound -- heavily inspired by the Stooges and the '60s psychedelic punk sounds of bands like the Thirteenth Floor Elevators and the Chocolate Watchband -- bridged the gap between Radio Birdman and subsequent Sydney groups like the Sunnyboys (whose first-ever show was opening for the Lipstick Killers), Lime Spiders, Hoodoo Gurus and the Psychotic Turnbuckles. And of course, they anticipated generation after generation of other bands with similar things in mind, right up to today's '60s-inspired freaks like The Straight Arrows, The Living Eyes and Thee Oh Sees."

Caravan is Acid Mammoth's third full-length album. It is the direct successor to 2020's Under Acid Hoof and the fourth release of the band with Heavy Psych Sounds. It was conceived, recorded, and produced during a state of total lockdown due to Covid-19, therefore it greatly reflects the band's mood during these dark times. It is a heavy, sublime, and pitch-black journey into the vast unknown. It is a witchy album for witchy ears, a heavy opus that has emerged straight from the deepest abyss. Once again, the father and son duo on guitars offer the listener a horde of crushing, fuzzy, Iommi riffs while the mammoth bass tears down everything in its path with its acid hooves. Its drums are thundering unearthly beats of harrowing doom while its mesmerizing vocals will bewitch you with their words of woe. Heavier and more diverse than its predecessor, Caravan is here to tear you down with its acid tusks. Prepare to be doomed! Recorded, mixed and mastered with Dionysis Dimitrakos of Descent Studio in Athens, while drums were recorded at Ignite Studio. Artwork by Branca Studio.

LYDMOR Capacity LP
Lydmor's album Capacity is a musical maze full of alluring mysteries. At the same time, it is part of a process of liberation, which is about opening oneself up and discovering one's capacity. For her previous album, Lydmor travelled to Shanghai. But on her new album, Lydmor has mostly travelled deep into herself. Capacity is a contrasting musical work where fiction and reality merge into a multifaceted sound universe. It is the electronic pop artist's most personal, complex and conceptual album to date. There is almost a David Lynch-ish cut about Capacity. The album is like a winding maze where it is difficult to decipher what is real and what is an illusion. Like a book with countless narratives. Without conclusions. Ambiguous. Full of alluring mysteries, dreams, reflections and messages about gender, identity, love, guilt and liberation. Rich in contrasts: Black/white. Silence/noise. Weakness/strength. Fiction/reality. Labyrinth/compass. Features Eivør and Lasse Ziegler. Includes download code and 60x60, full-color poster. "Multiple media outlets has compared the quirky voice to the likes of Grimes, Kate Bush or Björk but inevitably the comparisons fall short." --Kaltblut Magazine "With brutal honesty, unbelievable vulnerability and yet dreamy, she sings the soul out in her pulsating electronic pop songs. The soft, bright voice is deceptive. Denmark's 'hidden gem' is a must-listen." --Flux FM "She is every bit as innovative as Madonna ever was when she started out. Lydmor ticks all the boxes; the girl has everything. For my money she's the most ground-breaking, inventive artist in Europe right now, possibly in the world." --God Is In The TV (UK)

MAIDA, MITCHELL COHEN & FRIENDS, SAL The White Label Promo Preservation Society: 100 Flop Albums You Ought To Know Book
"Forward by David Fricke (Rolling Stone Magazine). HoZac Books is proud to present The White Label Promo Preservation Society: 100 Flop Albums You Ought to Know, written and compiled by Sal Maida and Mitchell Cohen, who have recruited for their 'society' a gang of esteemed music obsessives: musicians, label executives, and journalists who chose favorite albums from the 1960s and 1970s to rave about and expound upon. The only criterion was that the albums never made the top 100 on Billboard's LP Top 200 (although in a few cases, they did quite well on the R&B or country chart). The selection ranges from east coast vocal-group harmony to punk and metal, from superstars like The Who and the Beach Boys to virtual unknowns. As Sal and Mitchell write in the book's introduction, 'These are the albums you might not read about, except here. No one needs to tell you why Pet Sounds, Revolver or Blonde On Blonde are essential parts of any decent record collection, or guide you towards classics -- or even somewhat lesser efforts -- by the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry or the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Or which Pink Floyd album is indispensable (hint: the debut; you can stop right there). Although we have strong opinions about pantheon artists like Led Zeppelin and Marvin Gaye, and are happy to share those views with anyone in earshot, that isn't what this book is about. We aren't here to challenge or endorse rock orthodoxy. Neither is the mission to, once again, assert the brilliance of Skip Spence's Oar, of such artists as Nick Drake, Big Star, and the Velvet Underground, whose influence, despite the lack of any commercial success in their time, has been thoroughly -- one might even say exhaustively -- documented elsewhere.' To tell help this story, Sal and Mitchell called on an impressive team of guest essayists: Lenny Kaye, Russ Titelman, Amy Rigby, Brian Koppelman, Dennis Diken, Bebe Buell, Jim Farber, Susan Whitall, Steve Shelley, Phil King, Ira Robbins, Billy Altman, Marshall Crenshaw, Peter Holsapple, Wreckless Eric, Peter Keepnews, Miriam Linna, Joe McEwen, and a cast of dozens. Sal Maida has played bass guitar with Roxy Music and Sparks, was a member of the snappy NYC power-pop band Milk 'n' Cookies, and has chronicled his exploits as fan and musician in the HoZac book Four Strings, Phony Proof, and 300 45s. There is not much about rock music in the '60s and '70s that he doesn't know, and it was quite an ordeal getting him to hone his list of underrated, underselling albums down to manageable length for these purposes. Mitchell Cohen has been writing about music and movies since the early '70s (CREEM, Film Comment, High Fidelity, Musician, Phonograph Record...), was a major-label A&R guy for around a quarter-century, and is the co-author of Matt Pinfield's memoir All These Things That I've Done, as well as the author of an upcoming book on Arista Records for RPM/BMG Books."

LP version. "The Scientists' powerful brand of deranged swamp-rock returns with a vengeance as In the Red Records unleashes Negativity, an all-new magnum opus featuring the first new full-length album by the Australian band's penultimate line-up in thirty-five years. The bruising eleven-track collection features a Scientists configuration much beloved by connoisseurs of the band's work: singer-guitarist Kim Salmon, lead guitarist Tony Thewlis, and bassist Boris Sujdovic, all veterans of the group's defining 1981-85 outfit, and drummer Leanne Cowie, who replaced drummer Brett Rixon on the storming 1986 release Weird Love. A solid crop of fresh originals is highlighted by the opening statement of purpose 'Outside'; the offbeat, yowling waltz 'Naysayer'; the hilarious, self-mocking 'Suave,' which Salmon says was inspired by the work of his countrymen the Moodists; and the utterly surprising 'Moth-Eaten Velvet,' a Velvet Underground homage in ballad form that features a three-piece string section. Instrumental guests on the album include producer Mumford, who contributes trombone on 'Make It Go Away,' and Salmon's daughter Emma, who essays piano and background vocals. Negativity is the third Scientists release and the first full-length album for In the Red. The current quartet cut the single Braindead/SurvivalsKills in 2018 and the five-song 2019 EP 9H2O SiO2, the title of which translates (in a hat tip to the lyrics of the group's classic 'Swampland') as Nine Parts Water, One Part Sand. Those recordings were issued in conjunction with the group's first two U.S. tours during that period. Raw, freewheeling, and spattered with the high-voltage sound, the Scientists have drawn from such influences as the Stooges, Suicide, the Gun Club, and the Cramps, Negativity is jubilant, unpredictable listening."

In the fall of 2016, having overcome serious health issues, Marco Repetto -- Bigeneric -- begins to weave new delicate soundscapes from a place of stillness, unaware of his emerging role in the fabled magic web of the fairy queen Helva. Inspired by an encounter with the storyteller Andreas Sommer and the legend of Helva, the fairy queen who lives on the Gantrisch mountain, and another gentle message from the universe, Marco Repetto merges his electronic strands of magical sounds into a tender and mystical composition he names Helva. Helva is a cinematic work of sound with long, hypnotically mesmeric tonal progressions and subtle ambient colors, combining influences from the electronic avant-garde and the futuristic spectrum of contemporary electronic music. This is the spiritual soundtrack of the Heart Rebels Gang who ceaselessly radiate into the world a powerful and profound force of beauty.

FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS Fine Young Cannibals (Remastered Standard Edition) CD
Fine Young Cannibals' first, eponymous album, originally released in 1985, remastered for the very first time with Roland Gift's involvement. Includes the hits "Johnny Come Home", "Suspicious Minds". Includes 10 rare/unreleased tracks."When Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger split from the rest of the English Beat to form General Public, Andy Cox and Dave Steele originally advertised on MTV for a new lead singer for the Beat. When that didn't pan out (although it did work for Wall of Voodoo), Cox and Steele hooked up with the unique and soulful singer Roland Gift and formed the Fine Young Cannibals. Though the trio first hit the mass U.S. consciousness with 1989's electronic dance-pop The Raw and the Cooked, their 1985 debut was a soul-jazz pop charmer that's more low-key but every bit as entertaining. Along the lines of early Everything But the Girl (the two groups share a producer, Robin Millar) with a heavier Motown influence, the songs on Fine Young Cannibals are uniformly strong. The singles 'Johnny Come Home' (a plea to a runaway that sounds like the Beat's ska stripped down to its tense and obsessive essentials) and 'Blue' (one of the more oblique and successful anti-Margaret Thatcher tracks of its era) are terrific, but album tracks like the casually devastating 'Funny How Love Is' and the manic 'Like a Stranger' (which incongruously ends with a female chorus shrieking 'You've been too long in an institution!' repeatedly while Gift tries out his Otis Redding impression) are even better. The album's highlight, though, is a reworking of 'Suspicious Minds' (with scarifying backing vocals by Jimmy Somerville) that, while it doesn't replace Elvis' version, certainly takes the song into an interesting new direction. Although often overlooked, especially in the U.S., in the wake of their massively successful follow-up, Fine Young Cannibals is a powerful and satisfying debut." --Stewart Mason, AllMusic

FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS The Raw and The Cooked (Remastered Standard Edition) CD
The second album by the Fine Young Cannibals, The Raw and The Cooked, original released in 1989. Remastered for the very first time with Roland Gift's involvement. Fine Young Cannibals had talent to burn -- guitarist Andy Cox and multi-instrumentalist David Steele were veterans of the English Beat, and front man Roland Gift was a vocalist as distinctive as Sam Cooke or Al Green -- and 1989's The Raw and The Cooked shows the UK trio going out in style. The second and final FYC studio album neatly balances such retro-soul numbers as "Good Thing" and such Prince-influenced dance cuts as "She Drives Me Crazy." Both of those tracks became No.1 hits, and the remaining songs (all original except for a convincing cover of Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen In Love") are also single-worthy. A double-Platinum smash, The Raw and The Cooked remains among the most listenable albums of the 1980s. Includes the hits "She Drives Me Crazy", "Good Thing", "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be". Features 22 bonus rare/unreleased tracks -- B sides, and also remixes by David Z, Ploeg Club, Dimitri From Paris Seth Troxler, Prince Paul, Youth, and Arthur Baker. Features eight rare and unreleased bonus tracks; features John Potoker and Jazzie B and Nellee Hooper.

Takehisa Kosugi's improvisations, both with violin and miscellaneous sounding objects, have a sense of emerging from the bottom of a spiritual unconscious. From this place comes a music based more on the feeling of sounds than conscious arrangement. Memory, physical action, tactile perceptions, environmental conditions, and awareness of subconscious microcosmic and macrocosmic extremes inform his work as much as the intention to assemble sounds into music. When listeners connect with his sounds, a direct identification of experience occurs between audience and performer. Personnel: Takehisa Kosugi - electric violin.

Green vinyl version. "Call Me By Your Name, the film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman. Summer of 1983, Northern Italy. An American-Italian is enamored by an American student who comes to study and live with his family. Together they share an unforgettable summer full of music, food, and romance that will forever change them. The film received critical acclaim. Critics praised in particular Chalamet, Hammer and Stuhlbarg's performances, Guadagnino's direction and the screenplay. Call Me By Your Name won a variety of Awards, including Academy, Bafta, GLAAD and many more. Sufjan Stevens's song 'Mystery of Love' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 90th Academy Awards. Luca Guadagnino wanted the film's music to be connected to Elio, a young pianist who likes to transcribe and adapt pieces in order to get close to Oliver. The music is used to reflect the time, the characters' family, level of education and 'the kind of canon they would be a part of'. Guadagnino found himself resonating with Sufjan Stevens' lyricism through his work and initially asked Stevens to record an original song. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack: 'Visions of Gideon', which was used at the end of the film, 'Mystery of Love,' which was featured in the film's first trailer and a new rendition of 'Futile Devices' with piano. Stevens penned the songs by using the script, the book, and the conversations with the director about the characters. It marks Sufjan Stevens' first soundtrack for a feature film. Though the project was completed in '98, label turmoil kept the project on ice until 2000. By the time Fantastic Volume II hit Dilla was well on his way to his status as a hip hop legend having produced cuts for Common, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest and many more. Later works from Slum Village may have had more of an impact sales-wise (in the immediate) but Fantastic Vol. 2 had fans and many critics saying that Slum Village, and Dilla in particular, may 'single-handedly save rap music.' Perhaps that statement is hyperbole but many consider Fantastic Volume II to be Slum Village's finest work ever to this day. Ne'Astra Media Group now presents the album reissued on vinyl, for the first time in several years. NACE, BILL Solo Guitar 2/One Note LP
"Solo Guitar 2 was recorded by Bill Nace in 2008, in a good-sounding room in Bennington, Vermont. This year the record, originally released as a now (nearly) extinct cassette, is reissued without it's mysterious and (maybe?) long-lost sibling Solo Guitar 1 (Like any good punk demo -- which, both aesthetically and energetically, Solo Guitar 2 is -- the thrill of discovery is made only sweeter by the potential of future discovery). The vinyl release comes a little less than a year after Bill's first 'official' solo record, BOTH, which was released by Drag City in May, 2020. The two records don't necessarily stand in opposition, but they are at different points on the spectrum of production, tone, mood, time, place, age, career. Where BOTH is softened by the warmth and precision of a studio, there's a wildness to Solo Guitar 2 which approaches the experience of witnessing Bill perform live. Made up of mostly brief pieces -- songs, practically -- Solo Guitar 2 winds tight, then unwinds, or sometimes snaps apart. Crackling, itchy static morphs into heavy, watery vibration, layered on metallic rattle. There are moments where that Bennington room sounds as sterile and lonely as a deserted art gallery. And then it becomes spacious and warm, like a cathedral filling with the hum of the universe. The bulk of Bill's releases are collaborations with other artists, who are drawn to him (at least in part) because he's an innovative player and a deep listener. Those qualities hold, and in certain ways intensify when he's on his own. As he takes a series of unlikely tools across his prone guitar with the grace and urgency of someone at a loom or an aircraft control panel, there's a sense of reaching inward. But where some might meander or navel-gaze, Bill's playing is a process of constant dynamic construction. What unfurls can feel intensely personal, and often -- for reasons I don't always understand -- very moving. Bill isn't interested in micromanaging his listeners' experiences, but he does make room for us. Composer Pauline Oliveros observed that when we listen deeply to the world around us, we sometimes notice very subtle and quiet differences in sounds that we thought were familiar. As a result, she writes, 'the slightest difference may lead you to a new creative relationship.' Bill is, I think, tuned in to these subtle and quiet differences. But, in a truly punk fashion, he flips this for the listener, making unfamiliar and not-very-subtle noise into something akin to (but also distinct from) familiar sounds: traffic outside your window, the soft roar of a conch shell to your ear, static between radio stations. Solo Guitar 2, full as it is of shades and moods and life, offers a fresh way of hearing." --Margaret Welsh Philadelphia, PA 2021

Originally issued as a digital-only release back in February of 2018, it's slowly grown to become one of the most cherished releases in the entire Other People discography. Much like Kerrier District did to disco, A.A.L. (Against All Logic) borrows heavily from the samples and sounds ingrained deep within Jaar's listening habits and evidently a record collection packed to the brim with classic soul, house, and most importantly, funk hooks. Keenly twisting these sounds and filtering them through a studio set up that's leaning heavily on the beefed-up kick drums and reverb units to make a well-executed homage to these sounds, pieced together with the inherent idea of making the listener unable to resist the urge to move, be it in a bedroom, basement, or just sat in work staring at a computer screen. A.A.L. (Against All Logic) is both a well-executed homage to all of the above references, yet also just a really strong and enjoyable record from Nicolas Jaar. Its undeniable popularity digitally is sure to see the vinyl evaporate in no time at all.

LEIMER, K. Mitteltoner72 CD
"Mitteltöner72 -- K. Leimer's homage to the German Kosmische period -- is an expanded, remixed and newly mastered edition of the Origin Peoples LP released in 2018. '72 includes all the music produced but not originally released for the LP." "Leimer's love of kosmische is evident from the start, as 'Dunne Luft' condenses the earmarks of that sound into its four minutes. There's the solar flares of guitar that arise early on in the track, fuzzy and luminous, serving less as a lead instrument and more as a sonic texture. It sounds like a sly homage to the arcing six-string stylings of Neu! and Harmonia member Michael Rother, but rather than simply pay tribute, Leimer lets pinging synths bustle underneath and processes and loops live drums to keep the track's momentum going. The flickering rhythms bring to mind the blurry highways evoked on Autobahn while the ghostly melodies of the piece bear the evocative beauty of Popol Vuh. Rather than serve as mere pastiche, Mitteltöner encapsulates Leimer's unique talents: drawing on a vintage sound now over forty years old and entering into middle age, while also finding a way to push it forward." --Pitchfork

As one half of Red Axes, Dori Sadovnik could perhaps already stake a claim as one of the most prolific men in electronic music. A natural artist, Sadovnik is the sort of musician who never stops recording, a creator ahead of a consumer, well-adapted to a frenetic lifestyle. This particular impulse has been funneled into a project known as Kapitan, an already expansive collection of tracks clocking in anywhere between 130 and 150 beats-per-minute. As for a home, it just so happened that DJ Tennis, friend, collaborator and founder of Life and Death, was processing similar instincts, borne out of his love and association with the '90s heyday of IDM, pioneered by labels such as Warp and Rephlex. "I don't really know what led me there but I had a feeling that I needed to be in the mountains," explains Sadnovik. "I'm not a nature guy, nor do I feel particularly spiritual, but I was always struck by the harmony of it all. Everything is in the mix." This all-encompassing, blissful philosophy is deeply felt throughout this journey, a fluid blend of analog and digital sounds rendered as organic as the landscape that inspires the album. Interlocking rhythms evolve into unexpected chamber pieces and bubbling acid lines blossom into rave psychedelia on opening tracks such as "Weird Day" and "Flowers", progressing to the sound of "Takak", which inspires meditations on enormous bass weight, as mantras creep in from the surrounding forest of sound. In the album's second-half, this sincere sense of awe expands further still. Centerpiece tracks "In The Valley" inspires a true sense of wonder and transcendence, complex rhythms blending with wide-eyed reverence. "Smile" is trippy and innocent while "Elleven" crackles with whispering energy over whiplash breakbeats. Concluding with "Heart", Sadnovik reduces the pace to a stepping, heavy rhythm, commanding a deep sense of respect for the untamed wilderness that has served as such a unique muse. "Smile" features Pharaoh & Yogg.

CONNAN MOCKASIN Forever Dolphin Love (2021 Reissue Splatter Vinyl) LP
Celebrating 10th anniversary of Connan Mockasin's both debut album Forever Dolphin Love and career, Phantasy Sound release new editions of longtime out-of-stock Forever Dolphin Love and second album Caramel. Exclusive splatter 2021 edition. Connan Mockasin has the kind of deliciously off-kilter and gloriously idiosyncratic worldview that rapidly proves addictive. Welcome, folks, to the delightful, slanted and enchanted world of Connan Mockasin. Like David Lynch's willfully surrealist take on American suburbia, or Richard Prince's paintings investigating modern cultural tropes, the New Zealand-born, current London resident Mockasin makes beautiful music which subverts as it compels, challenges as it mesmerizes, startles as it seduces, even drawing fans as diverse as Johnny Marr and Radiohead to Ed Banger chief and ex-Daft Punk manager Pedro Winter into its wide-eyed, childlike exploration into the final frontiers of pop music. It is all too rare, in this current climate of manufactured pop acts, grey, over-produced "alternative" guitar music and press-fueled mania for the next-big-thing, to hear something truly striking and original, but a strong case can most certainly be made for Connan to be a true pop auteur, taking his rightful place in a proud lineage which includes past mavericks such as Joe Meek and Brian Wilson, right through to cult figures like Ariel Pink, Sufjan Stevens and John Maus. Written from start to finish one hot summer, while camped outside his parent's church-like house in a tent, Forever Dolphin Love is an LP which brims with the beauty and solitude of summer evenings, a miasma of psychedelic tangents, jazz interludes and echoing guitars which hum with a distant, haunting resonance. For apart from being one of the most singular musicians we currently have, he is also a brilliant and unusual painter, a gift which will be glimpsed for the first time with this album, which features a collection of wonderfully surreal paintings of dolphins, all bold and beautiful interpretations of the mammal, but evolved into human forms, smiling in gaggles, sometimes wearing clothes, sometimes swathed in pools of lush colors. Connan's talents also include recording, producing and mixing the entire record. It was this brilliantly ingenious approach to invention, and his masterfully unique charm that caught the attention of Erol Alkan, who signed Connan to his label Phantasy and released his first output Please Turn Me Into The Snat.

"Six volumes worth of licensed tracks released in just three years: doing the Dark Lord's work isn't an easy job, but somebody's gotta do it, so here is Brown Acid - The Sixth Trip, with more lined up. The heads just can't get enough obscure hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal from the late'60s and '70s! This time around Riding Easy present ten deep cuts from across the continental USA and one from the neighbors up North. This trip kicks off with an outrageous number from Gold out of San Francisco circa 1970. The band used to open their sets with this over-the-top frantic jammer which is absolutely mind-blowing! Delving deeper into the depths, Canadians continue to prove that they could bang heads with the best of 'em! Heat Exchange from Toronto released the rollicking ripper 'Inferno' on the Yorkville label way back in 1968 and it's still thumping almost fifty years later. Some more examples of the mind-melting tracks on this platter: Missouri isn't a state that brought us a lot of heavy 45s, but there are a handful of outstanding tracks, one of which is the funk-laced anthem 'Give Me Time' by Backwood Memory from Kansas City. Youngstown, Ohio, meanwhile, might have been the Hard Rock Mecca back in the day. Travis is yet another Youngstown group that aimed to get asses out of seats and out in the streets. Truth & Janey had their incredible proto-metal masterpiece 1976 album No Rest For The Wicked; released four years earlier, 'Midnight Horseman' was a 45-only track, included here! Those are just some of the fruits of months worth of record digging and detective work included on this latest installment. This is the stuff that makes life worth living, at least until the next Trip..."

LP version. "Heavy music's evolution has always been a murky swamp of subgenres. So, combining Thin Lizzy's glistening twin guitar harmonies with Melvins-grade sludge and a hearty dose of proto-metal psych probably shouldn't sound so revolutionary as it does in the hands of L.A. quartet Deathchant. But theirs is a special, transcendent sound. Waste, the band's sophomore album and first for Riding Easy Records, is anything but. The thirty-three minute, seven-song blast flows seamlessly from song to song, aided by droning segues, while simultaneously slithering between genres and moods. Rumbling noise, chiming guitar melodies, bluesy boogie, NWOBHM thrash, COC grunge and punk fury all rear their head at times, sometimes all at once. Though one wouldn't be able to tell by the concise structures and well-crafted songs, a lot of Deathchant's music is improvised, both in the studio and live. That's not to suggest their songs are jammy -- they're very tightly organized compositions. But the four musicians have that special musical telepathy that allows them to keep the song structures open-ended. 'Improv is a huge things for us and always has been,' singer/guitarist T.J. Lemieux says. 'The musical freedom to look at the other dudes in the band and be able to take things wherever we want to go is magical. I like the feel of flying off the hinges.' Likewise, the band itself is similarly amorphous in its membership. 'We run the band with an open door. No lineup is definitive,' Lemieux explains. On Waste, the lineup is: Lemieux, George Camacho on bass, Colin Fahrner on drums, and John Belino on second guitar. Waste was recorded live in a rented cabin in the mountains of Big Bear, CA. 'We packed a big-ass van and set up in the living room and kitchen,' Lemieux says. 'Tracked it live, with overdubs after.' The whole album was recorded over two separate weekends, engineered by Steve Schroeder, who also recorded the band's 2019 self-titled debut album. 'I'd say it has sort of a DIY LA punk aesthetic,' he adds. 'Very ironically going hand in hand with a classic metal vibe: Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, classic Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and other melodic heavy rock bands.'"

"Tobacco City is about simplicity. Simple songs and melodies built around nostalgic and blue stories. Built out of a mutual love of classic and cosmic country, the members of Tobacco City bring their psychedelic and folk influences to the exploding genre. The result is a feel-good sway that fits into modern urban modes and passes by the shrewdest of classic country heads. Quickly gaining traction in Chicago playing with new country icon Orville Peck and psychedelic tastemaker Ty Segall, Tobacco City seems to fit in wherever good music resides regardless of the genre."

Spittle Records present a reissue of The Durutti Column's Dry, originally released in 1991 on Materiali Sonori. Durutti Column are still one of the most sought-after band of the English post-punk. Since their first album The Return Of Durutti Column (released on Factory in 1980), the guitarist, pianist and composer Vini Reilly has published a series of remarkable albums that filled the gap between new wave and ambient music. Reilly and Bruce Mitchell (who's been working with such major artists like Simply Red and Rod Stewart) represented the future of the Manchester scene moving forward from the forerunners (Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, etc.) to the new musical heroes (Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, and the likes). Materiali Sonori invited The Durutti Column to the first edition of the Greetings Festival in San Giovanni Valdarno in 1985, and build since then a steady relationship with the band. It was precisely Vini Reilly that started the record series Greetings (dedicating to the Belpaese tracks like "Florence Sunset", "San Giovanni Dawn", "For Friends In Italy"). Subsequently, Materiali Sonori dedicated the first cover of the magazine Sonora to Reilly and Mitchell (including a previously unreleased track on the magazine's compact disc). Dry is conceived as a new journey among Vini inventions, through rarefied moods and subterranean streams of sound. The fifteen songs (lasting fifty-five minutes) were recorded in Manchester in 1990. Vini sits in on guitar and piano, while Mitchell is on electronic and acoustic percussion, other instruments such as the clarinet (played by Zinnia Mitchell-Williams, Bruce's daughter), harmonica, viola and keyboards are also featured on the session. Here, once again, Durutti Column's music could be defined as half-way between melancholy rock and "progressive" new age. Licensed from Materiali Sonori.

ROTARY ECT Cutting Them All Off Cassette
Documented during peak isolation times in Los Angeles, between December 2020 and January 2021. These pieces were performed as Live AV pieces from 2017-2019, at Coaxial Arts, Zebulon and Desert Daze 2019, but not documented in a release until later. Signal processing and sequencing frameworks built in Max 8 with signals generated from Prophet '08, a broken AW16G, 0-coast, Max, and a MC-909. With the context of the electromagnetic medium, the absence of live performance and moving visuals and the new "spirit" of the pestilent times, Cutting Them All Off should barely be represented as reworks of the originally performed pieces. What was once pulsing and blasting out of PA speakers live is now referenced as a distant past document. These pieces (for better or for worse) have been removed and cut-off from their contextual source and can only be presented in their displaced/liberated state. Like a fish out of water gasping for air, or the only drunk survivor of a car crash that was his fault. Christopher Reid Martin started Rotary ECT in 2016. The project focuses on highly active signal processes on synchronized Audio -> Visual signals, with many signals being constructed to self-generate. Much like a rotary machine's rotation, the process is consistent and signaled when turned on. Much like electroconvulsive therapy, a human need to be there to actively monitor and attend to the process and generation of the signals being emitted. Christopher currently works for Cycling '74, is a curatorial/programmer at Coaxial Arts Foundation and of curators (alongside J. Prey and J. Rivera) behind the ephemeral stream Cathode TV/Cathode Cinema. Christopher continues to show gallery works, both virtual and physical, digital and video works and performs in other numerous events and projects such as Bailouts, CGRSM (with Gabie Strong), Shelter Death, Gate (with Michael Morley) and Via Injection. He has performed and collaborated with artists Joseph Hammer, Bryce Loy (RIP), Tetuzi Akiyama, Christopher Thompson, James Roemer, Andrew Scott, Gabie Strong, Michael Morley, Lev Abramov and many others. Cassette only in an edition of 100.

HVOB Live In London 3LP
Triple LP version. Includes download. HVOB releases their first live album. 77 sold-out concerts in places such as Buenos Aires, New York, Mexico City, and the Funkhaus Berlin, stops in 34 countries and four continents: the Rocco world tour in 2019 once again underlined the role played by Vienna duo HVOB in the world of electronic music. One of the highlights of the tour was in London on April 13, at the filled-to-capacity "Electric Brixton" music venue. The evening had already been planned in advance as an album, a lot of effort went into recording it in its entirety. Live In London will be the first live album by HVOB. A short documentary by Nicola von Leffern will be released at the same time as the album. The film director from Hamburg accompanied HVOB on tour and it delivers a very intimate, unfiltered insight into the musical lives and the routine aspects of touring for the normally publicity-shy HVOB duo Anna Müller and Paul Wallner.

In 1987, two years since the release of Vinicio Adames's debut album Al Comienzo Del Camino, Venezuelan painter Ernesto Leon asked Vinicio to compose music for his New York Art Exhibition at Lincoln Centre. The result is an exceptional composition and modern sound interpretation of their national heritage the Amazonas. Both "Amazonia I" and "II", each version in its own way, honor the majesty and mystery of one of world's greatest nature reservoirs. Both compositions were never intended for commercial release, and were only given out by hand in flexidisc format during the exhibition. TrueClass Records felt that the time has come to present this gem to all music lovers worldwide.

2021 restock. "Alfredito 'Sabor' Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader, and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century. Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William 'Quantic' Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the 1970s and '80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito's first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary El Combo de Pepe album for IEMPSA/Odeon. Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as 'salsa' with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, El Pito, and yet by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well. More importantly there is a 'swing' and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations . . . That special 'swing' also emanated from Linares' ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes, and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus). According to Linares, the studio band was 'open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days -- Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets. Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone. Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre.' Though the recordings were cut 'live in the studio' and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on Yo Traigo Boogaloo stand the test of time as one of Peru's most important contributions to tropical music across the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela..." --Pablo E Yglesias DJ Bongohead of Peace & Rhythm

CULTURAL NOISE Aphorisms Insane LP
2020 reissue. Originally released in 1980. "The only album by Austrian trio Cultural Noise is a an electronic marvel. Band members were Gerhard Lisy, Walter Heinisch and Karl Kronfeld, and instruments used included an ARP Sequencer, an ARP 2600, a VCS 3, an EMS Digital Sequencer, a Mellotron M400, a Micro Moog, a Roland Studiosystem 700, a Roland Analogue Sequenzer and an electric guitar. With these weapons and a strong influence from the Berlin school Cultural Noise created a rich electronic tapestry which expanded through the two pieces of this record, one per side, being compared by reviewers to works by Zanov or Anna Själv Tredge. Mentions of Tangerine Dream are also present on reviews, although Cultural Noise have a pretty unique personality on their own and besides sharing the use of Mellotron, sequencers and analog synths we have a totally personal concept here which sets them aside from all TD impersonators of the era. The album was originally released in 1980 on CBS and later repressed in 1981 which came in a B&W version of the sleeve that some sources list as a self release private pressing done by the band themselves -- this has been denied by members of Cultural Noise."

We Release Jazz announce the official reissue of Hiroshi Suzuki's Cat, a glorious jazz-fusion-funk holy grail originally released in 1976. Cat was recorded in October 1975 at Nippon Columbia Studio, while Hiroshi Suzuki was visiting his home country of Japan after moving to Las Vegas in 1971 to play with Buddy Rich and perfect his craft. Back on his old stomping grounds, the man known as Neko (Cat) immediately reunited with his dear friends for an epic two-day session of groove magic. The chemistry was still intact. The skills and style had grown. The result, Cat, is a smooth masterpiece, a deep and soulful affair where stunning trombone solos by Hiroshi Suzuki flirt with Takeru Muraoka's heavenly saxophone and the sensual rhythm section of Hiromasa Suzuki (keyboards), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), and Akira Ishikawa (drums). Celebrated in jazz collectors circles, in the lo-fi beat scene, and among music diggers around the world, Cat has become one of the most sought-after Japanese jazz albums of all time and, much like Ryo Fukui's Scenery, has fascinated old and young generations alike. Sourced from the original masters. Liner notes by Teruo Isono.
