DETTMANN, MARCEL My Own Shadow: Approaching 12"
Marcel Dettmann's "My Own Shadow" is the latest chapter in the Berlin-based legend's illustrious career. The live project is, in his own words, "a space where all of my artistic expressions meet," blending techno with film, sketches and photography. The shows are less club sets and more immersive experiences, where the audience gets lost in a "full sensory narrative." "My solo work has always been open, evolving across records and remixes," Dettmann added. My Own Shadow's first official release, Approaching, is a five-track EP.

MELIAN, MICHAELA music for a while LP
With Michaela Meli?n's LP music for a while, a-Musik is releasing the first album by the visual artist, co-founder of F.S.K., and solo musician since Monaco (MONIKA 079CD), which appeared on Monika Enterprise in 2013. While her last releases, Electric Ladyland (2016), Music from a Frontier Town (2018), and Tania (2022) were created as part of exhibitions and sound installations, music for a while is Meli?n's fourth autonomous LP, characterized on the one hand by her unmistakable dreamlike sound along the interfaces between dark chamber music, solemn ambient techno, and cinematic sound art. As with her previous albums, there is also a wonderful avant-pop cover version -- this time of the track "My Other Voice" (1979) by the Sparks. On the other hand, music for a while, whose cover is adorned with Meli?n's photographs of the clouds above her new home of Marseille, spreads a comparatively ominous mood, thanks in part to the sedate, almost ticking drum sounds of co-producer Felix Raethel. Once again, the multi-instrumentalist, supported by Ruth May on violin and Elen Harutyunyan on viola, weaves her recordings of various string instruments -- cello, guitar, bass, and zither -- into fascinating, lurching, looping, and almost hypnotic soundscapes, but atonal synthesizer sounds in tracks such as "traverse Benjamin" and "m?rchenwald" open up the music to electroacoustic and experimental music. The concluding cover version of Irving Berlin's "they say it's wonderful" (1946) rounds off one of this year's most impressive releases in an incomparably groovy and melancholic way.

LOS GIGANTES DORMIDOS Los Jardines De Mis Abuelos LP
This music is the result of a friendship established in Mexico between Marius Houschyar, Fabio Levi, Mazatl Alvarez, and Mich Rubio who came together in the gardens of Central Mexico for spiritual and sonic exploration. All songs were recorded outside at the ranch of Mazatls father in Michoac?n and the magical garden of the wise Abuelos in Mexico State between cactus plants and gigantic trees. The music contains mostly indigenous instruments such as flutes and ceremonial percussion instruments, as well as classical guitar, electric bass, a Persian Santoor and one small keyboard. The song texts are improvised prayers in English, Spanish and Nahuatl. Every recording session started with a guided meditation and ultimately turned into a spiritual journey. A psychedelic trip telling of holy lands, the great spirits that inhabit it and a newborn, yet ancient brotherhood.

ALIEN DUB ORCHESTRA, THE Plays the Breadminster Songbook LP
The Alien Dub Orchestra is ragtag collective of Bavarian musicians, featuring members of The Notwist and G.Rag y los hermanos Patchekos. The cohort formed around the idea of performing the standards of the fabled Breadminster Songbook, aka the back-catalogue of lone dubman Elijah Minnelli. Minnelli is known for constructing wheezy, forlorn odes to his hometown, both as highly sought-after self-released 7" singles, and a critically-acclaimed debut album, Perpetual Musket for FatCat Records, lauded by the likes of The Guardian, The Wire, and The Quietus. Plays the Breadminster Songbook finds group covering Minnelli's cumbia-infused dub reggae with full band, playing an eclectic array of instruments including: guiro, accordion, melodica, sousaphone, trumpet and assorted percussion. The seeds of the Alien Dub Orchestra were sown during a support gig for The Notwist, where assorted musicians joined Minnelli for an encore, reinterpreting one of his dub remixes across woodwind, brass and assorted percussion. Despite the non-traditional origins of the source material, the inherent musicality of Minnelli's songwriting shines through across his releases, and this creative kinship is what attracted the Orchestra to reimagining his work. The first live collaboration led to recording sessions and further gigs, with the Orchestra building a full set of Minnelli's music. The resulting album puts forward the strongest case yet of the shared musical throughline between the acts, where cumbia, dub and folk sensibilities coalesce to something altogether unique. The tracks are wrought new, with melodies fleshed out and broader instrumentation expanding the sonic possibilities of the compositions. For these dubs, Minnelli is joined by Raimund Wong, who had caught his ear with his ambitious live sets, a daisy chain of tape machines and FX pedals. Again, despite their differing creative processes, the two bonded over a shared love of dub music.

VA Krautrock Discovery: A Journey From Jazz To Prog Rock CD
When rock music from Germany gained international recognition under the label "krautrock" in the 1970s, it was far more than a mind-expanding phenomenon. In basements, youth centers, and improvised studios, a vibrant scene emerged-shaped by fearless curiosity and a strong will to transcend traditional musical structures. Some bands produced only a single recording; others became experimental platforms for established musicians or transient fixtures in local underground milieus. What united them was a desire to cross boundaries: rock met jazz, folk merged with electronics, soul touched the avantgarde. These intersections produced soundscapes that remain powerful documents of a creatively restless era. The recordings collected here reflect that spirit-not only from the krautrock period, but also from the decades that followed, including contributions from both Germany and Austria. Featuring Skyline, Psi, Toto Blanke, Ragawerk, Lychee Lassi, Abadie, Zoppo Trump, Epsilon, Radio Noisz Ensemble, Mocolage, Dschinn, Frob, Emotion, Join In, Morpheus, Opossum, Zyma, and The Terrible Two.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP Ace Of Swords LP
Hyper-limited ethereal ambient-guitar-soul, originally released on cassette only. First time ever vinyl release, on 140g vinyl. The phenomenally hyped Thought Leadership returns with another X ideas: the deck this time chooses the Ace of Swords. Originally out on cassette only, Be With presents the first ever vinyl issue. The sonic palate has been augmented by the addition of synth and bass; there are more guitar layers, more pedals and more organic drums this time -- a much fuller production. Still DIY, and still recorded straight to multitrack, just ever so slightly grander in scale; think a rough-hewn, long-lost Claremont 56 cut and you'll have some idea of how XI opens this future classic LP. The touchstones so key to the vision of Pentacles (Cocteau Twins, Dif Juz, Durutti Column) are all still present and correct; XII could be a piece from Extractions, XIII is pure Garlands-era Guthrie and, now with the shuffling jazz drums, XV makes TL even more LC -- but more disparate influences are found this time out too. ECM guitar legends John Abercrombie and Pat Metheny in the more considered melodic phrasing and harmonic structure of the ideas and a nod to the cosmic Balearic spirit in the overall vibe, means more is offered to the listener across Swords. Be With is honored to present the first ever vinyl release of Ace Of Swords, carefully remastered by Be With's engineer Simon Francis to ensure it sounds better than ever after its initial tape release. Cicely Balston's expert skills have made sure nothing is lost in the cut at Abbey Road Studios whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at Record Industry, in Holland. The original tape cover artwork, so crucial to Thought Leadership's striking visual aesthetic, has been rejigged for vinyl issue here at Be With.

LEWIS, JERRY LEE The Greatest Live Show On Earth LP
"With Live At The Star-Club Hamburg -- an ultimate Bear Family classic! -- Jerry Lee Lewis set the bar extremely high for any comparable releases. Accompanied by his tour band at the time, 'The Killer' works his way through a repertoire of his own classics such as 'Mean Woman Blues' and other hits like 'High-Heel Sneakers,' 'Who Will The Next Fool Be?', 'Hound Dog,' and 'Long Tall Sally.' Bear Family reissues the original Smash record as a 1:1 reproduction, re-mastered from the original stereo tapes and with the original cover art. As a bonus, a postcard with a photo of the artist is included. Anyone who likes rock and roll at the highest energy level will love this vinyl record! After Jerry Lee Lewis' sensational successes in the 1950s for the SUN Records label, things had quietened down for 'The Killer'. In 1958, the media and fans condemned his marriage to his underage cousin. In the spring of 1964, he toured the UK and Germany, playing in small clubs accompanied by local bands. In Hamburg, his energetic performance at the 'Star-Club' was recorded and released on LP -- ranked 16th in Rolling Stone's 2015 list of the '50 Greatest Live Albums of All Time.' Just a few months later, on July 18, 1964, Jerry Lee Lewis performed at the 'Municipal Auditorium' in Birmingham, Alabama, in front of 15,000 enthusiastic fans. Accompanied by his US tour band at the time, which later called itself The Memphis Beats (with James Hutcheson -- guitar, Larry Nichols -- organ, Herman Hawkins -- bass guitar, and Morris Tarrant -- drums), the 29-year-old pianist and singer set the stage on fire! Similar to the Nashville Teens in Hamburg, the Memphis Beats in Birmingham struggled to keep up with this burst of unbridled energy. The Star-Club album may sound a little more straightforward, but otherwise The Greatest Live Show On Earth is quite comparable to the legendary record from Hamburg, pounding piano, raunchy and raucous vocals, great backing."

YALLA MIKU 2 CD
After a critically praised debut in 2023 and numerous tours across Europe, Yalla Miku returns with 2, a new record that further asserts their unique identity. Still based in Geneva, the band moves forward with a reimagined lineup -- not as a departure, but as the natural continuation of a project envisioned from the start as a space for encounters, movement, and musical reinvention. Blending post-kraut grooves, mutant folklore and electronic trance, Yalla Miku continues to spark dialogue between traditions from the Horn of Africa and the most unrestrained experiments of Geneva's underground. The krar riffs of Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh, the sculptural bass of Louise Knobil, the taut percussion of Cyril Bondi, the raw electronics of Emma Souharce, and Cyril Yeterian's modified banjo weave a dense, collective sonic fabric, full of sharp turns and rhythmic surges. There's no smooth fusion here, nor any fixed folklore: 2 is an interplanetary journey where multiple voices overlap, clash or complement each other. It's a music of otherness, built as a shared space where each texture keeps its own roughness. With this second album, Yalla Miku digs deeper into its sound: raw, militant, unclassifiable -- for curious ears and open hearts.

TWILIGHT SEQUENCE Outline of Nature LP
"First released on August 18, 2023, Outline of Nature started as an experiment in building a modular synthesizer system and ended up as a voltage-controlled outpouring of love for the natural world. Sylvan-born and pastoral-powered, sap-blooded and lightning-charged, this album grew out of the damp florescent corners of the woods, each note and sound, a fractal extension of their seedling sounds. It was nurtured into being at The Twilight Research Centre, a studio facility situated on the border of Somerset and Dorset. During Covid lockdown 1.0, I spent the outdoor hours we were permitted, wandering through the center's surroundings, in the green lanes, woodlands and corridors of the wilds with their wary and flickering inhabitants, beneath the distant eyes of the soaring buzzards and the hulking red kites. I didn't expect it, but it was in the quiet, ferociously vibrant dens of nature, that I found a deeply profound connection with the natural world. It once again made sense to feel as much a part of the woods as the trees were; I felt like a natural entity in its habitat again, not something I'd properly felt since running wild through the gullies, dells and fells of the Midlands as a child. And I became afflicted with a powerful urge to build strange electronic sound systems that were organic, chaotic, fractal and in some way reflective of the awesome natural systems that surround us and surround the center. I plugged in the modular, and went searching for signs of life. Adding to this, just before the lockdowns, I stumbled across a three-volume nature encyclopedia in a local charity shop, called Outline of Nature in the British Isles by Sir John Hammerton. The sub-heading reads 'A Comprehensive Photo-Survey of the Varied Life of Field and Hedgerow, Moor and Mountain, River, Pond and Sea,' and it's a stunning collection of grainy photographs, beautiful illustrations and wondrously poetic writing, some of which inspired track titles and of course, the album title. I also rekindled my love of Ladybird nature books such as the What to Look for in Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter series, Birds and How They Live and Butterflies, Moths and Other Insects, rebuilding a small collection I had as a child and discovering numerous volumes new to me. Between the two literary sources, I had a rich well of imagery, writing and pastoral nostalgia to draw from." --Twilight Sequence

FIELD LINES CARTOGRAPHER Apeiron Anxiety LP
According to the 6th-century Greek philosopher Anaximander, "apeiron" is a state of primal chaos. It is the limitless, undefinable everything from which all is created and the essential form back to which all will ultimately return. Apeiron constantly and infinitely creates the building blocks of everything, including all states of opposition such as heat and cold, dry and wet, only to then destroy and remake it all anew in a boundless, eternal cycle. It seems that humanity in the 21st century is living in a type of apeiron with social, political, technological and economic structures. One crisis is seemingly resolved only to be replaced with another. Alleged enemies become friends, only to return as enemies again. Technology creates solutions, but the unintended consequences of its application create a new set of problems to be surmounted. This creates a type of undefinable, constant anxiety. Nothing is certain and the cycle of creation and destruction of threats, fears and challenges remorselessly continues.

BROWN, JAMES ADRIAN Generator CD
Hot off the heels of producing Benefits' critically acclaimed album Constant Noise, and following a continual flow of singles, collaborations, remixes, and EPs since 2022, former Pulled Apart By Horses guitarist turned electronic pathfinder James Adrian Brown presents Generator, featuring exclusive reworks/remixes from label mates Warrington Runcorn New Town Development Plan, Field Lines Cartographer, signature Phantasy Records artist James Welsh, and Werra Foxma. "Generator" is a pulsing, pumping, and energizing statement of intent that captures the spirit of Brown's long awaited conceptual debut. As its title suggests, the track embodies motion and motivation, reminding listeners that "we all need to generate energy to get things done in all walks of life." Reflecting on "Generator," Brown says: "'Generator' is about creating your own momentum and powering through life's challenges. We all have to find and build our own energy source to keep moving forward. For me, it's about resilience, staying true to your dreams, and making them real."

VANDERMARK, KEN October Flowers for Joe McPhee CD
It's not a stretch to say that saxophonist and clarinetist Ken Vandermark's path into creative music was paved by Joe McPhee. In particular, McPhee's landmark 1976 LP Tenor -- recorded casually in a Swiss chalet and featuring four new compositions that effortlessly combined experimentation and lyricism -- was Vandermark's ear-opener. The two musicians would go on to begin a fruitful working relationship in 1996, a partnership that continues today, and now Vandermark has paid homage to his friend and mentor with a suite of compositions and improvisations. These solo works, performed on an array of horns (clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone and of course tenor saxophone), are as melodious and unapologetically beautiful as anything in Vandermark's oeuvre, interweaving tremendous swells of emotion and ingenious linear inventions. Vandermark played the six pieces in the suite in front of an invited audience at Corbett vs. Dempsey, the gallery's natural acoustic drawing out every nuance of his playing. He augmented the suite, each part of which is named for a flower with significance to McPhee or Vandermark, with several powerful free improvisations, all titled after "filler flowers," making the entire program a bouquet for Mr. McPhee. Exquisitely documented by Alex Inglizian, with cover art by Arch Connelly and liner notes by Vandermark.

MCPHEE, JOE Defiant Jazz: a Joe McPhee Taster LP
Who was that masked man? This question is on many lips having seen and heard the Defiant Jazz episode of the hit TV show Severance, the one in which the show's protagonists are allowed a company dance party, accompanied by a light show and increasingly wild, funky, saxophone-driven music. The masked man? None other than Joe McPhee, Poughkeepsie, New York's best kept secret, one of the great figures of contemporary improvised music. A living legend looming large, you might say. And now a presence in households around the globe. This "taster" is more than a "best of" record. Defiant Jazz includes "Shakey Jake," the dance party track, a funky upsetter from 1970 that shimmies and rolls at the same time it builds and explodes. The vinyl-only compilation then moves across time, touching on another early track, the spiritual jazz classic "Astral Spirits," from the 1972 CJR LP Trinity and a 1983 version of the Sonny Rollins tune "Oleo" from the hat Hut LP of the same name, with psychedelic guitar outbursts courtesy of Raymond Boni. The second side opens with "I See You Baby Shakin' That Ass," a self-proclaimed "throwdown" with McPhee as emcee and flamethrowing saxophonist, fronting two bands, Cato Salsa Experience and The Thing. A dance floor jack-in-the-box for anyone unlucky enough not to have heard it yet. The program concludes with a sensitive tenor/drum duet between McPhee and Paal Nilssen-Love. The cover features previously unpublished vintage photos of McPhee. If you already know Mr. McPhee's music, this compilation is designed to fulfill, and if you're new to him, it will thrill and chill. Win-win.

BUNYAN, VASHTI Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind 2LP
Double LP version. 2025 restock; deluxe Stoughton gatefold packaging. Singles and demos, 1964 to 1967. "Following the amazing success story of Vashti Bunyan's recent re-emergence as an artist after an exile of over 30 years, comes the release of Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind, a comprehensive compilation of early recordings dating from the period prior to Vashti's classic Just Another Diamond Day album which was originally released1970. Titled after Vashti's (Jagger/Richards-penned) debut single which opens the compilation, this double-album represents an attempt to both open out and draw a line under the past, and also to try to set the record straight about the disparity between how Vashti viewed (and still views) herself against the way she has been popularly perceived. Widely construed as a folk singer -- a tag she fundamentally disagrees with - these recordings instead reveal Vashti as a pop singer, however 'fragile' and unique."

DRUMM, KEVIN Sheer Hellish Miasma (2025 Repress) 2LP
Widely regarded as one of the most uncompromising works in experimental noise, Kevin Drumm's Sheer Hellish Miasma is once again available on vinyl. First released on CD in 2002 on the original Mego label, the album remains a landmark in extreme electronic sound and is an essential and ferocious document of Drumm at his most inventive. The history of Drumm's Sheer Hellish Miasma is one of resilience to the twists of underground trends that have come and gone since its initial release. Using guitar, tape manipulation, microphones, pedals, analog synthesizers, and subtle computer processing, Sheer Hellish Miasma is an overwhelming experience: a sonic onslaught of storming feedback, fractured textures and an unrelenting energy. At once brutal and meticulously composed, the album offers a singular vision at the outermost edges of sound art. For seasoned noise veterans, Sheer Hellish Miasma offers a bracing soundscape filled with exquisitely abrasive textures and more than enough hidden detail to warrant repeated listening -- a distinct voice in the increasingly same-sounding world of abstract electronic noise. For everyone else, Drumm's journey through the noisy underworld is likely to inspire fear or, in an optimistic case, fearful admiration. Drumm's Sheer Hellish Miasma is an abstract noise classic with this 2LP reissue being an artefact of eternal power. Gatefold sleeve, gold pantone print. Includes hot foil stamping.

MOOR MOTHER One For Archie LP
A duo concert featuring universal artist and activist Moor Mother and Archie Shepp was planned for October 19, 2023, at the Enjoy Jazz Festival. However, a spinal disc operation on the then 86-year-old saxophone legend led to the cancellation of this eagerly awaited world premiere -- and to a spontaneous demonstration of respect. To honor the great Archie Shepp, one of the most influential intellectuals in jazz, an Enjoy Jazz all-star cast spontaneously recorded a tribute song during the festival -- organized by festival director Rainer Kern. The line-up consisted of Nicole Mitchell, the most important flutist in the history of jazz, as well as the Enjoy Jazz "Artists in Residence" for 2023 and 2024, Moor Mother (spoken word) and Nduduzo Makhathini (piano). In her lyrics, the poetess creates a powerful linguistic monument to Archie Shepp, whom she greatly admires, by playing with the titles of the saxophonist's legendary recordings (instead of with him himself). The title One For Archie is an allusion to Shepp's 1964 Impulse debut, Four For Trane, which, according to Jazzwise, is one of the "100 Jazz Albums That Shook The World." In her moving text, Moor Mother also celebrates Shepp's political and social commitment. The way Moor Mother rhythmically and aesthetically picks up on Shepp's unique playing style, which oscillates between rugged clarity and deep humanity, begins to improvise on it, and thereby creates new connections, is impressive proof of her masterful artistry. Her recitation is peppered with haunting dramatic climaxes that give listeners goosebumps due to their authenticity. The B-side features "They've Got A Plan," a song that is like a beacon. An intense and powerful invocation of "Agenda 2063," a master plan of the African Union to transform the continent socially, economically, and politically. Both tracks are available on vinyl for the first time.

GRACIOUS! Once On A Windy Day: The Recordings 1970-1971 3CD/1DVD
NTSC format, Region 0. "Featuring Paul 'Sandy' Davis (lead vocals, 12-string guitar), Alan Cowderoy (lead guitar, vocals), Martin Kitcat (Mellotron, organ, piano, vocals), Tim Wheatley (bass, vocals) and Robert Lipson (drums), the band first came to prominence in 1968 when they supported The Who on tour. They recorded a single for Polydor Records before a support slot for King Crimson in 1969 led to them purchasing a mellotron and changing style. In 1970 their debut self-titled album appeared on the Vertigo label and the band were greeted with critical praise. This in turn led to Gracious! performing a set at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival (joining a bill that featured Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, Family, ELP, The Moody Blues and many more). Their set was recorded and filmed but was to remain unreleased. In early 1971 the band recorded their second album at Olympic Studios. Originally entitled Supernova and perhaps their finest work, the band was dropped by Vertigo prior to its release. The recordings eventually received a belated release on Philips Records under the title This is Gracious! later in 1971. The Recordings 1970-1971 gathers together both albums and also includes a CD of the band's 1970 Isle of Wight Festival set and a multi-region DVD featuring the film of their Isle of Wight performance. The set also includes a lavishly illustrated booklet with many unseen photographs and a new essay with band interviews by Mike Barnes."

AZYMUTH Demos (1973-75) Vol. 1 LP
2025 restock; LP version, Volume 1. 180 gram vinyl; includes download code. Since their debut in 1975 (FARO 117X-LP), Azymuth have risen to rank alongside the world's greatest jazz, funk and fusion artists. As young men in Rio de Janeiro, they stood out for both their exceptional talent as musicians, and their wild rock 'n' roll antics in the predominantly middle-class worlds of bossa nova and jazz. Their signature "Samba Doido" (crazy samba) sound ruptured the tried and tested musical structures of the day, resulting in what can only be described as an electric, psychedelic, samba jazz-funk hybrid. Before they became Azymuth, Jos? Roberto Bertrami (keyboards), Ivan 'Mam?o' Conti (drums), Alex Malheiros (bass) and Ariovaldo Contesini (percussion) played backing band to just about every major artist in Brazil. Azymuth's name can be found on record sleeves by the likes of Jorge Ben, Elis Regina, Marcos Valle, Ana Mazzotti, and countless others. But at the dawn of the seventies, fascinated by developments in improvisational music -- from jazz in the US, to progressive rock in the UK and of course samba, bossa and tropic?lia on home turf - the energetic young group were inspired and ready to move forward; these previously unheard recordings took place between 1973-75 at Bertrami's home studio. At the time of recording, there was nothing in Brazil, less the world, that sounded anything like them, so it's unsurprising that when Bertrami presented his demos to the record companies he had been working for, he was turned away, told in effect that the music was 'wrong'. When English producers Joe Davis and Roc Hunter arrived in Brazil in 1994 to record the first Azymuth album in over a decade, Bertrami dug out the demos which had sat virtually untouched for over twenty years. Beginning a long and fruitful relationship, "Prefacio" would be the first track Azymuth recorded for Far Out Recordings and was released on the Carnival album (1996). Only a handful of these demos were ever professionally recorded and released, making this the first opportunity to hear many of these early Azymuth compositions in their raw, original form. On every track the frenetic energy in the studio is palpable, giving the recordings a beautifully personal feel and a sense of the phenomenally creative vision Bertrami, Malheiros, and Conti were realizing at the time. Fifty years on, Azymuth's earliest recorded music retains an ineffable, futuristic quality, standing amongst their most captivating and moving work.

FREITAS, AMARO Sankofa LP
2025 repress. LP version. Includes 60x30cm poster. From the slums of Recife in Brazil's North-East to international jazz icon, Amaro Freitas has worked tirelessly to become the artist he is today. His debut and sophomore albums Sangue Negro (2016) and Rasif (FARO 205CD/LP, 2018) arrived on a wave of instant acclaim. His new album Sankofa -- a spiritual quest into the forgotten stories, ancient philosophies and inspirational figures of Black Brazil -- is his most stunning and sincere work to date. But for Amaro Freitas, work isn't just playing the piano, his art delves far deeper than music theory and practice. Explaining the impetus behind Sankofa, Amaro elucidates the imperative behind his music: "I worked to try to understand my ancestors, my place, my history, as a black man. Brazil didn't tell us the truth about Brazil. The history of black people before slavery is rich with ancient philosophies. By understanding the history and the strength of our people, one can start to understand where our desires, dreams and wishes come from." Sankofa is an Adinkra symbol depicting a backward-facing bird. He soon came to understand what it represents, and it became the foundational concept for his new album. With the help of Jean Elton (bass) and Hugo Medeiros (drums), who have formed the Amaro Freitas Trio since the very beginning, Amaro employs intricate rhythmic patterns and time-signature variations as if reimagining the ancient designs of his ancestors, and every track is imbued with a message or a story Amaro is compelled to tell. "Baquaqua" highlights the seldom told story of the West African Mahommah Gardo Baquaqua, who was brought to Brazil as a slave but escaped to New York in 1847 where he learned to read and write. The delicate "Vila Bela" takes its name after an area near the Bolivian border, in Brazil's Mato Grosso region, where the 18th century Quilombola queen Tereza de Benguela led the black and indigenous community in resisting slavery for two decades. "Nascimento" is a warmhearted tribute to the great star of Minas Gerais, who Amaro sees as a talisman of contemporary Black Brazilian culture. "Ayeye", Sankofa's most joyful moment, means celebration in Yoruba and features gorgeous, fluttering piano, shuffling hi-hats and a stuttering bass groove, at times sounding as much like a D'Angelo or Alicia Keys hit as it does Bill Evans or Thelonious Monk. Named after a mythical bull from the tropical region of Maranh?o, "Cazumb?" represents the interdependence of all living things. A jazz rock pulse represents a noisy urban city port, and as the track develops it's as if the group moves out into the tranquility of the rainforest river.

On H008, Len Faki goes back to his crate for a unique journey through synth-led landscapes, carefully selected and bolstered up for the dancefloor. Starting with "2000 And One - Edge Of No Return" from the mid-2000s, when it was just a standout synth-line -- no beats. The "Hardspace Mix" takes this masterclass in building tension, adds a driving beat and searing percussion. The flip boasts two of longtime Figure-collaborator Viers' productions. "Re-L", released almost ten years ago, it delivered that unmistakable pulse of deep, dubby, shimmering synths. Equally energetic but much more brooding in atmosphere is the Hardspace version of "Free Your Mind".

GUANO PADANO W/ENRICO RAVA La Giostra CD
Recorded during a spellbinding performance in Italy at Jazz a Forl? in November 2024, La Giostra captures the magic of an unexpected yet natural meeting between two unique musical worlds. On one side, Guano Padano, Alessandro "Asso" Stefana, Zeno De Rossi, and Danilo Gallo -- known for their evocative blend of cinematic desertscapes, western dust, and psychedelic jazz. On the other, Enrico Rava -- a poetic and visionary composer who has graced the global jazz scene for decades with his unmistakable lyricism and fiery spirit. The album unfolds like a circular journey, suspended between reality and imagination. Slow, meditative passages give way to sudden bursts of energy; Rava's luminous trumpet lines weave seamlessly through Guano Padano's richly cinematic textures. MAURSETH, BENEDICTE Mirra CD
On Mirra, innovative folk musician Benedicte Maurseth once again invites listeners to the vast Hardangervidda plateau -- this time with a focus on the wild reindeer. When Benedicte Maurseth released H?rr in 2022, the visionary Hardanger fiddle player was praised for creating a masterpiece. Her blend of the distinctive sound of the Hardanger fiddle and the use of concrete sounds from wildlife immersed listeners in a unique soundscape. For H?rr, she received the prestigious Nordic Music Prize, and the album was named one of the world's top ten folk music releases of the year by The Guardian. Now she releases the long-awaited follow-up Mirra, which, like H?rr, is a concept album where concrete sound plays a central role in the compositions. This time, the focus is on the wild reindeer, native to Maurseth's home area of Eidfjord in Hardanger. The work follows elements of the reindeer's distinctive sounds and annual cycle, as in "The Calf Rises," "Summer Grazing," and "Hunting March," as well as their behavior and masterful adaptation to the nature they live in harmony with Mirra is an old, forgotten dialect word from Hardanger, describing when reindeer run together in a circling pattern -- both to keep warm and to ward off predators. The word was also used to describe a time when reindeer "teemed" in large numbers. The music is repetitive and marked by the hypnotic repetitions of folk music, also inspired by American minimalism, krautrock, and free improvised music. The concept and music are presented and composed by Benedicte Maurseth and further developed and arranged in collaboration with her outstanding fellow musicians: H?kon Stene on melodic percussion, Mats Eilertsen on bass and electronics, and Morten Qvenild on keyboards. The album was recorded by Morten Qvenild at Ugla Lyd Studio in Nesodden in 2024, and produced by Benedicte Maurseth and J?rgen Tr?en.

SID VICIOUS Sid Lives! (Color Vinyl) 2LP
"The resurrection of Sid Vicious continues with Sid Lives' -- a 2LP of Sid's last ever four shows. Containing 39 tracks, mostly previously unreleased, it comes packaged with comprehensive 8,000-word notes in the gatefold sleeve. This tells the story of Sid: firstly in an eyewitness account from surviving guitarist Steve Dior; secondly in a lengthy Sid, Nancy and Sex Pistols day-by-day timeline from pre-Pistols early days to his demise (and inevitable Nancy death theories); plus a song-by-song background. Since his death Sid has come to symbolize the Sex Pistols -- he never aged. Always courting controversy he out-did old college-mate Johnny Rotten in the punk outrage stakes. With an impressive rock'n'roll voice and an abundance of attitude, just three memorable solo singles was all that he left - plus an industry of posters, documentaries and films. These recordings, backed by the New York Dolls' late rhythm section of Arthur Kane and Jerry Nolan along with guitarist Steve Dior (at that time playing together as The Idols), show the direction Sid would have gone for his next recordings had he lived. This is the definitive Sid Vicious release for all fans of the punk-rock scene."

JURANGO Taino Gold 2LP
Channeling inventive sound design into incisive, characterful techno variations, Jurango returns to Livity Sound with an eight-track double album -- his longest release to date. Ta?no Gold captures a moment in time for Bristol-based Nate Reece's continually evolving sound as it draws on the full spectrum of UK club music. Reece is more assured than ever tackling a variety of club-focused cuts. The tracks on the release all came together before, during and after a two-month visit to Reece's grandparents' home -- an idyllic tropical environment in a small community at the top of a hill in the northern part of Jamaica. Ta?no Gold refers to the island's indigenous Ta?no community and the legend of a witch luring Spanish settlers into a trap on the Martha Brae river. There are no messages explicitly embedded in the music, but the release is both a personal reflection of Reece's own experiences and family heritage, plus a reminder about the enduring scepter of colonialism and the continued need to fight against it. From absorbing Jamaica's fraught history through museum and plantation visits to the abundant nature in the garden surrounding his grandparent's house, the double EP marks a place in time for Reece, with eight advanced, ear-catching tracks as the end result. From the cascading arps of "Black Torches" to the tunnelling chords of "Waiting For Trelawny," the melodic dimension of the Jurango sound is more confident than ever. With the space afforded by a longer release, Reece widens out the scope of his artistic identity while absorbing the particular scene and setting that surrounded him while making the tracks. Ta?no Gold is a vibrant next step for Jurango and a natural continuation of his work with Livity Sound.

LUCKYANDLOVE Humaura LP
Los Angeles-based duo LUCKYANDLOVE are back with their third album, evoking a new sense of art school originality. The duo defines Humaura as the atmosphere that emanates from the feelings of the human spirit void of technological control. Blending raw analog synth sounds with driving punctuated percussion and punchy analogue bass, LUCKYANDLOVE's music is shaped by the embers of Siouxsie and The Banshees and Bauhaus, resonant specters carry over from synth-laden galaxies, where the needle hits the vinyl groove and Doc Martens marched to basement dance floors. LUCKYANDLOVE is the raw sonic experiment of Loren Luck and April Love, whose music transcends genres. Their live analogue synth beats, Moog instrumentation and beautiful, harmonic vocals trigger an immediate download of fuzzy sunset synthgaze, blue-black neon darkwave, and tigerprint electro punk. This album was recorded, mixed and mastered for digital release by Grammy award-winning engineer Be Hussey (Modern English, Twin Tribes, Boy Harsher) at Balboa Studio and Catwater for the digital music, and mastered for vinyl and lathe-cut by Grammy-nominated engineer Nicholas Townsend (Weezer, Grimes) at Townsend Mastering. SKODVIN, ERIK K From Darkness LP
Erik K Skodvin summons his alter ego Svarte Greiner for a dive into the dark, wintery Swedish forest with the score to the psychological thriller/horror film From Darkness (orig: Ur M?rkret). The film is director Philip W. Da Silva's debut and is set largely at night, deep in a Swedish nature reserve where mining used to take place. Loss, mental health and Nordic mythology come together in a story that revolves around the search for a missing woman. The score follows an eclectic and atmospheric path throughout the narrative with an uneasy underlaying vibe; although one with occasional points of refuge in the otherwise vast darkness. There is a gloomy, barely tangible sound of Nordic folk tradition buried in the music, even if it comes across in a different, more abstract way, where the various instruments are often used more as sound sources that are improvised (and abused) into becoming their own element. Skodvin performed and recorded the majority himself. In addition, he commissioned free improviser Axel D?rner to participate with his unique, custom-built electro-acoustic interface, which, along with Claudio Puntin's processed reeds and additional electronics, has been built into the elaborate backdrops to create an entire world that balances on the border between the approachable and the elusive - not unlike the journey of the protagonists. Skodvin's partner in Deaf Center, Otto A Totland, appears on piano in the stand out piece "What have you become?" The result is a harrowing yet deeply melancholic journey through the human psyche. One that echoes through the dark forests, cabins and lost mines of the desolate Swedish woodlands. The vinyl is released in an edition of 150 numbered copies, with screen-printed artwork on black cardboard inside a screen-printed PVC sleeve, incl. Riso-printed insert with liner notes by Mike Lazarev. 180g vinyl.

CHKHEIDZE + ROBERT LIPPOK, ANUSHKA Uncontrollable Thoughts CD
Anushka Chkheidze and Robert Lippok's Uncontrollable Thoughts on Morr Music is the duo's debut joint release. The Netherlands-based Georgian composer and the German sound artist from Berlin first met in 2019 in the context of a workshop program that took place in Tbilisi, and later worked with Eto Gelashvili, Hayk Karoyi, and Lillevan on the massive Glacier Music II music and book project, released in 2021. This led them to engage in a less conceptually driven form of musicking and real-time composition that corresponds with their respective environments. They draw on traditions such as minimal music or late 1990s and early 2000s electronica to integrate subtle beats with elegiac organ drones, playful melodies with lush textures. The first document of an ever-shifting intergenerational dialogue, Uncontrollable Thoughts is a product of mutual listening outside time. Though Chkheidze and Lippok had access to professional studios, they chose to rent a simple rehearsal space, equipped with only the bare essentials -- bass and guitar amps as well as a small PA -- to maintain immediacy in their working process. The music they made together corresponded to and drew on the respective possibilities and shortcomings of this studio, much like their collaboration in general is characterized by the care with which they approach each other's talents and ideas. While both had loosely defined roles -- Chkheidze was responsible for the free-flowing beat programming and the evocative distortion came courtesy of Lippok, for example -- they individually contributed in different ways to their joint process, which is as free of hierarchies as it is limitless. Hence, the duo's focus on spontaneity and out-of-the-moment emergence makes them organically move beyond tried and tested conventions, resulting in music that seems to suspend time altogether. While there is much that sets Chkheidze and Lippok apart as solo artists, the major shared leitmotif in their respective bodies of work is the sonic engagement with space. Uncontrollable Thoughts is hence best understood as an extension of this practice; as an album that maps the geographies of their minds in motion, tracing musical movements as they melt into each other.

They are widely marked as one of the first skinhead reggae bands. Symarip recorded one studio album under this synonym, Skinhead Moonstomp. This album includes their hits 'Skinhead Girl,' 'Skinhead Jamboree,' and 'Skinhead Moonstomp.' Singer and trombone player Roy Ellis was the man behind many of their classics. CARDENAS (ALE HOP), ALEJANDRA A Body Like a Home LP
Following a string of acclaimed collaborations, Peruvian artist Alejandra C?rdenas (aka Ale Hop) returns with her most personal work to date yet, A Body Like a Home. Marking her first album under her birth name, the project is a sonic memoir exploring the tangled realms of trauma, recovery, and love through autobiographical soundscapes. A Body Like a Home is the artist at her most exposed. Comprising 13 songs and 15 poems, the album sees her set aside collaborative fusions for solo catharsis, channeling years of turbulence - intergenerational scars left by colonialism, racism, domestic violence, and alcoholism -- into a work that oscillates between brutality and tenderness. At the heart of the album is C?rdenas's own voice -- part witness, part confessor -- reciting over layers of electric guitars, electronic textures, the haunting violin of Mexican musician Gibrana Cervantes, and a collage of field recordings, from rainfall, muffled whispers, broken glass, to archival protest footage from Peru. The result is a work that resonates like a diary written in sound. The first single, "Motherland," is a searing testimony where C?rdenas voice cracks under the weight of history and personal loss. Amid a storm of distorted guitars, she traces the cyclical legacies of colonialism, from state massacres branding Indigenous bodies as "terrorists" to the spiral of addiction as an unavoidable future. The lyrics draw parallels between political and domestic violence: a mother's drunken knife pressed to her chest, and a motherland where racism is currency. Yet, amid the wreckage, a willful grip on love and faith persists. Ultimately, A Body Like a Home is a document of transformation. Tracks like "Evangelina" and the title piece "A Body Like a Home" hold space for resilience, spirituality, and love, while "Early Road" and "Going South" thread subtle nods to Peruvian folklore, opening up bright vignettes into a sense of belonging. The poetry chapbook accompanying A Body Like a Home (five of its pieces are also recited on the album) extends the work, building a parallel architecture. Oscillating between the documentary and the mythic, the intimate and the forensic, the profane and the oneiric, these poems practice a theology of the ordinary, where everyday objects -- cameras, knives, moth-eaten cotton -- are charged with spiritual and historical weight. Here, the body is land, house, battlefield, collective pain, geological territory; and trauma is, in contrast, archival, cellular, ritualistic, inherited.

PODER DEL ALMA Poder Del Alma LP
2025 restock; first ever reissue. Psychedelic Latin-funk holy grail from Nicaragua, 1974. Poder del Alma ("Soul Power") was a supergroup formed by some of the best musicians from the Nica scene. This all-star band of nine members was assembled to play at the famous free concert of Santana in Managua in benefit for the 1972 earthquake. After that successful gig supporting the Latin-Rock superstar, what was to be a one-night stand became the seed of the most loved Nicaraguan act from the '70s. All the members had already played an important role in the history of the Nica music/hippie scene in the 1960s. Among them is Rom?n Cerpas (previously on Bwana), Ren? "Chapo Dom?nguez (Los Rockets), and Edgar "El Gato" Aguilar. A few months after the Managua concert with Santana, Poder del Alma traveled to Guatemala to record their first long play for Dideca (Discos De Centroam?rica, S.A.) in just one week of recording sessions. Despite the low budget and precarious recording equipment, the band managed to obtain a powerful psychedelic/Afro/funk-rock sound full of electric guitar, heavy drums, hot, percussion, horns, Spanish male/female vocals -- featuring titles like "El Valle del Ayatimbo," "Ia-Taa Yo," and "Z?mbale." Remastered sound, with original artwork in gatefold sleeve. Four-page insert with liner notes, photos, and download card included.

HEADACHE (VEGYN) Thank You For Almost Everything 2LP
Thank You For Almost Everything is the sophomore album for Headache, a collaboration between writer and poet Francis Hornsby Clark and music-producer Joseph Thornalley aka Vegyn. This new album follows on the surprise underground success of their debut: The Head Hurts But The Heart Knows The Truth, releasing on Vegyn's own PLZ Make It Ruins label. Since its release, Headache has built a dedicated global fanbase, with several fans even going so far as to get lyrics or the project's logo tattooed on themselves. Thank You For Almost Everything continues the original's distinct style of trip-hop/downtempo electronica but combining with its own unique (and now imitated) AI-voiced spoken word. For this new album, Headache steps away from the hum-drum of Blighty and instead focuses his gaze to sunnier shores. Recalling personal histories of ruffled hair and school cafeterias, ancient unsolved Albionic riddles, Rome's changing seasons and its poignant graffiti, arguments with girlfriends at luxury hotel beachfront restaurants, and what it truly feels like to be alive in this inscrutable but beautiful world. The project features a further collaboration with artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt who returns to design the packaging and cover for this new album. This double 12" vinyl release, like the first, includes the instrumental versions exclusive to the vinyl version. The album was mixed and mastered by Margo Broom at RAK Studios.

SDEM At Quadrant Park CD
Quadrant Park is a new label from the makers of frozen reeds (which will continue in its own stream). It exists to present music that demands to reach a little further, occupying new spaces and a new context. For the inaugural release, SDEM delivers a live recording with a twist: this set was recorded in early 2024 in a single take to an audience of one, at a now abandoned empty club space beneath a railway arch in Leeds. Following a series of physical and digital releases culminating with Vortices (SKALD 038CD) in 2023, SDEM has focused on continuous upgrades to a mutating live set, sporadically performed, for example, alongside the Autechre and Gescom axes. In the phase documented here, the set draws deeply from turntable-era early hip hop and '80s drum machine architecture, resulting in a landscape of tactile slippage: rhythms gripping and releasing, gestural scrubs and stabs, scratching meets musique concr?te. Interlocking parts snap in and out of alignment, before recombining on the fly -- kinetic, raw, and precise. The SDEM approach is marked by Tom Knapp's sculptural take on sound design, rhythm and texture -- ranging from dystopic ambient passages to pixelated, sub-heavy beats. A member of the Skam circle of atavistic beat freaks since the late '90s, Knapp's sound is that of hyperattentive electronica buried under soil and left to decay (or ferment). What emerges is somehow both ruthlessly futuristic and redolent of decrepit antique engineering. At Quadrant Park is presented in an edition of 500 compact discs with artwork by Robert Beatty unique to every individual copy. In a warped reflection of the recording circumstances, each copy forms one distinct frame of a short film never to be viewed in its totality. Liner notes are provided by the sole witness to the recording, long-standing SDEM co-conspirator Ed Martin, aka edv3ctor, while audio was mastered by the ears that matter, frozen reeds mainstay Jim O'Rourke.

ISLANDMAN Island5 CD
Island5 is Islandman's most focused and detailed exploration of Anatolian psychedelia to date. They re-imagine the deep-rooted sounds of Anatolia through a modern lens. To them, this music isn't frozen in time -- it's alive, shifting, and always becoming. Tradition, in their hands, isn't something to preserve in glass, but something to carry, stretch, and let grow. Each track offers a different angle into this reimagined sound. Analog synths mimic reed instruments, fuzzed guitars evoke forgotten tales, and percussion carries both the pulse of the city and the stillness of rural ground. There are meditative passages that invite silence, and sunlit grooves that move the body before the mind. Everything flows as if improvised -- but nothing feels accidental.

DEETRON Running Back Mastermix: Deetron 2LP
What began as a nostalgic nod to Camden Market's bootleg culture has become the next chapter of in the Running Back Mastermix series. At once deeply personal and openly communal, it shows how a lifetime of production can be condensed into 90 minutes without losing its edge -- proof that the mixtape, even in 2025, still has stories left to tell. What followed was a patient excavation. Old DATs were pulled out of storage, forgotten files surfaced from hard drives, and new material was written to sit alongside them. Together, these fragments revealed a body of work stretching back more than 25 years -- tracks that moved across the spectrum of house and techno but shared a common thread of character and atmosphere. Recorded live on three decks using Serato, the resulting mix brings together 24 tracks: unreleased material from the past and brand-new productions, all stitched together into a continuous narrative. It's equal parts retrospective and statement of intent -- less a museum piece than a living document.

HAUSCHILDT, STEVE Aeropsia LP
Steve Hauschildt returns after six years with a new album titled Aeropsia. After a transcontinental relocation from the US to Tbilisi, Georgia, the electronic composer emerges from a personal and global transformation to explore themes of perceptual distortion, disconnection, and renewal. Aeropsia (which roughly translates as "seeing the air") refers to a visual phenomenon in which objects appear to float or shimmer, often due to changes in pressure, perception, atmospheric shifts or neurological disturbance. This becomes a metaphor for the liminality that informs the record: blurry visions, dreamlike displacements, and the fragile membrane separating what is seen from what is felt. In the years since his last solo release, Hauschildt's world has been marked by relocation and a growing sense of global turbulence. These experiences became the raw material for a work that navigates institutional haze and uncertainty itself. The result is music that employs decay as method, structure as entropy, and mutation as expression. While Aeropsia remains subjective in its vision, Hauschildt invited two previous collaborators to expand the album's gravitational pull. Cellist Lia Kohl, who previously performed on Nonlin, returns and brings a tactile warmth to select tracks, while guitarist Michael Vallera threads spectral harmonics into the mix. The album's electronic foundation and its tactile elements meet in a state of luminous suspension to navigate the shifting in physical and psychological terrain.

Limited 180g "Blood Red" vinyl repress with double-sided lyric insert. Recorded with producer and mix engineer James Wyatt at his Sloe Flower studio in Chester -- with the organ recorded in Wales, co-incidentally where Robert Plant wrote IV -- the objective was simple; show restraint. With Toria's reassuring vocals and guitar taking the lead, it is only at the end of "Sweet William" when the band join in, whilst rousing strings on "Seeing Things Through" crescendo at the perfect point through instinct rather than intent -- adding its own challenges."Enchanting. Whether playing almost solo or with a full band arrangement, Wooff is never less than mesmerizing." --Shindig!"Her spectral voice and acoustic guitar lead abstract stories of loss, yearning and self-exploration, nimbly embellished with pedal steel, organ and strings. 'The Waltz Of Winter Hey' and 'Lefty's Motel Room,' with its allusive nod to Townes Van Zandt, are outstanding." -- UNCUT

MISTER WATER WET Things Gone and Things Here Still LP
Mister Water Wet returns to Soda Gong with Things Gone and Things Here Still, an album that radically expands the project's purview while preserving the homespun warmth and oblique tactility that have long defined Iggy Romeu's work. Where earlier records tilted toward the dusty swing of sample-based beatcraft or spectral minimalist jazz, here Romeu opens the frame to a more ensemble-minded approach, inviting a stellar cast of supporting musicians, including SG alumni Memotone and K. Freund, into the fold. The result is an album that feels both broader and more intimate, with live instrumentation such as piano, strings, and reeds woven into MWW's signature lattice of hand percussion, production sleights, and slippery time signatures. Acoustic and electronic textures bend toward each other like plants angling for the same light: bowed strings blur into vaporous pads, brushed drums scatter under riffing guitars, a horn phrase lingers in the same space as a cracked cassette loop. A tension between decay and presence -- the "things gone" and the "things here still" -- runs throughout the record. At times, the music evokes a chamber session refracted through waterlogged tape; at others, it recalls the afterimage of a hip-hop instrumental slowed into an oneiric haze. In the world of MWW, memory functions less as nostalgia and more as a living fabric -- mutable and resonant. Things Gone and Things Here Still finds Iggy Romeu at his most expansive, offering up a generous record of open spaces and porous boundaries. Also featuring more eaze, Ben Bondy, and Sleepdial. Die-cut sleeve, gloss laminate finish. Includes download code.

MAINE, RUTH Found Keys LP
Found Keys is the debut album from American artist Ruth Maine. Although Ruth has been playing and composing music for over two decades, this is the first time she decided to record some of her varied compositions and share them with the public. But in times when it is the norm to clamor for attention, she prefers to go the opposite way. Ruth likes to let her music speak for itself and stay in the shadows. The 16 short piano pieces heard on this album, each about two to three minutes long, were recorded remotely and purely surrounded by nature. Once a composition was found and Ruth considered it mature, she only recorded it once, embracing the beauty of doing something for the first time with all its little imperfections. Found Keys sounds anything but imperfect though. These compositions feel timeless, intimate and comforting, as if they have been around for a long time, like an old friend. Gently played keys slowly evolve into minimal pieces through repetitive melodies. There's stillness as much as there's brightness, sadness as much as joy; welcome to a beautiful journey through Ruth's world of wonder. In many ways, Found Keys is a deeply personal record that takes Sonic Pieces back to its roots. And it leaves a feeling of nostalgia while reviving memories of the past.

BAKER, STUART Freedom, Rhythm & Sound: Chapter Two: Revolutionary Jazz Original Cover Art 1965-83 Book
Hardcover. 208 pages. "Album sleeve art from a transformative era in America's radical jazz culture, plus covers for recordings by Black poets, civil rights activists and experimental musicians. Just over 15 years ago, Soul Jazz Records' Gilles Peterson and Stuart Baker published Freedom, Rhythm & Sound, showcasing the stunning graphic works of independently published jazz record cover designs of the 1960s and 1970s from radical jazz musicians such as Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and more. These artists reshaped the cultural landscape for African American musicians in the US, transforming the role of jazz musician from nightclub entertainer to artist. The artwork of their often self-produced record cover designs reflected their radical agenda, spiritual awareness and singular search for musical and personal freedoms. Following the success of the first volume, Freedom, Rhythm and Sound: Chapter Two features hundreds more of these beautiful and rare jazz record cover designs from the 1960s to the 1980s. In addition to spotlighting the radical jazz musicians of this time, this second volume branches out to feature record cover art of recordings by Black poets, civil rights speechmakers and other experimental pioneers."

POPP, SIMON Trio CD
Simon Popp is back on Squama with his fourth album Trio. At its heart, Trio is a work about collaboration, playfulness and unification. It is music as a means of coming together, a sonic equivalent to the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, in which broken ceramics are repaired with a visible golden lacquer. Rather than hiding the breaks, Kintsugi embraces them, making them part of the story, a form of delicate transformation. Popp and his collaborators Flurin M?ck and Sebastian Wolfgruber take a similar approach: three distinct drummers, three different temperaments, three personal styles. Fused together into a single expressive instrument. The album is a celebration of timbre, texture, and touch, its sound palette drawn from across continents and traditions. Human beings at all points of time, across all cultures and continents have used music to celebrate, mourn, worship and bond. Along with voices, creating rhythm with our bodies. Clapping, stomping, hitting with sticks. A celebration of rhythm as both a shared human memory and an audible expression of close bonds. Trio is a reflection of the beauty of imperfection and the timeless pull of rhythm as a shared human force. The cracks are not hidden. They are filled with gold.

SUPER FURRY ANIMALS Love Kraft 2CD
Originally released in 2005, the Furries' third and final album to be recorded by Epic Records, Love Kraft, is now reissued. Four previously unheard tracks are drawn from the vaults, including the squidgy ELO-stomp of drummer, Daf Ieuan-led "Rock 'N' Roll Flu," plus the distorted space-jam of Cae Marw, the band's deep-bass sketch of Palo Alto and ghostly, percussive morsel of Bedw Arian. The album followed six previous albums by the band, including their statement debut album, Fuzzy Logic in 1996, melding an attention-demanding mix of literary, narcotic and musical influences. Maintaining a shape that was ill-fitting in the jigsaw of other '90s guitar bands, their follow-up, UK Top Ten album, Radiator brought the hooky squelch of the bona fide indie dancefloor classic, "The International Language of Screaming." Love Kraft's sense of cohesion, collaboration and free-flow of rich harmony has been credited to the five-piece escaping Wales to record in the shimmering heat of Figueres, Catalunya. Bringing famed Beastie Boys producer, Mario Caldato Jr along with them for the ride, the travelling band's stay in the Catalonian hometown of Salvador Dali included found sounds, boozy petrol stations, gastronomic revelations and, finally, a rich album of strings, synths and opulent vocal harmonies. While eventually finding their way to Baha, near to Rio di Janeiro to mix the album Love Kraft's story began in Wales and Pleasure Foxxx Studios, where the band began to craft the album's songs. Embracing the landmark of a seventh album, notably coming after the 2004 release of their first "best of" package, Songbook: The Singles, Vol. 1, Super Furry Animals pooled ideas and affected further democracy in their songwriting, taking a load off traditional lead-writer and front man, Gruff Rhys, and sharing in lead vocal duties (aside from the microphone-averse bassist, Guto Pryce). Love Kraft was the first Super Furry Animals album recorded to hard disc instead of multi-track tape, and found the band typically explorative and open to happenstance. "Zoom"'s opening splash into the recording studio's swimming pool is accompanied by the on-location, pool table samples found elsewhere on the album. Updated packaging features the original, meticulously built diorama design by long-time collaborator Pete Fowler. Constructed by hand in his studio, complete with bulb-lit illumination, then photographed, the sleeve's depiction of a monolith-rich desert landscape reflects the sense of other space and time depicted by Love Kraft's woozy songs. The final sleeve design again comes courtesy of Mark James.

SPENCE, ALEXANDRA Your Whistle Tells Of Landscape LP
Developed over three years across residencies, tours, and periods of deep listening, Your Whistle Tells of Landscape finds Australian sound artist Alexandra Spence continuing her investigations into the perceptual entanglements of sound, place, memory, and imagination. Like much of the artist's work, it unfolds at the liminal edge between the real and the imagined -- between what is heard and what is remembered. Composed from a constellation of materials gathered across sites and seasons -- snowscapes recorded in Vancouver, insect choruses from a Sydney backyard, ceramic fragments unearthed while mudlarking with tinysound -- it renders an intimate cartography of experience: one shaped equally by ecological resonance and internal drift. Each piece traces a kind of imaginary geography, where sonic ephemera become proxies for topography, weather, or myth. The album is informed by time spent at EMS (Stockholm) and MESS (Melbourne), where Spence deepened her engagement with microtonality and tuned feedback systems, and by dialogues with sympathetic artists such as Tashi Wada and Patrick Farmer. Sound materials were sourced from Serge Modular systems, a custom lyre built by Tim Wall, amplified objects, handmade electronics, and Spence's own field recordings captured within rockpools, beneath sand, and among a flock of sheep in the French Pyrenees. On "Magenta," a collaboration with Delphine Dora, the domestic and mythic intertwine, as layers of voice, environmental recordings, and Halldorophone feedback drift in and out of one another like overlapping weather systems. Despite its diverse material palette, the album resists spectacle or accumulation. Instead, it moves with a quiet sense of continuity and a rich interiority -- less a sequence of compositions than a set of situated attunements. Across its duration, sounds seem to murmur, glint, or hover right at the edge of presence, invoking a listening practice that is as much about orientation as it is about reception. These are pieces not simply about place, but of place -- etched with the grains of time, vibration, and breath.

THOMAS, PAT Hikmah CD
Deluxe 6-panel digipak CD, Heavyweight board. "Hikmah is the astonishing new [studio] solo piano work from virtuosic and far-ranging sound scientist; deep and compassionate thinker; UK (and world) musical treasure: Pat Thomas. It is a singular work in his singular and now substantial body of work, and his first for the TAO Forms label. Pat Thomas was Born in Oxford, UK to Antiguan parents on July 27, 1960. Interestingly, just over 4 months separate his birth to that of fellow modern piano master Matthew Shipp (Dec 7, 1960) -- whose The Piano Equation was TAO Forms inaugural release. Thomas is most certainly among the Black Mystery School Pianists of which Shipp elucidates in the title essay of his recently published first book. Eight thoroughly focused improvised and otherwise compositions recorded at Fish Factory studio in London. The album's title, Hikmah, means 'wisdom' in Arabic. The title is also presented in two different forms of Arabic calligraphic script on the cover artwork. This album does indeed bring the information. The vibrantly living jazz tradition and new modes of expression in abundance are brought forth from a lifetime of work and Thomas' decades-long devotion to Sufism, understanding that the practice and performance of this music is an elemental form of spiritual practice. As William Parker writes in the liner notes, '[the] music becomes the prophet and the prayer all in one gesture.' And, 'If you haven't yet heard the music of Pat Thomas, get hip to it quickly.' Attuned American audiences are most likely to have become familiar with Pat Thomas through his work with the quartet [Ahmed], whom over recent years have amazed with their mesmeric, long-form explorations on the compositions of Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and more recently, Thelonious Monk. Their debut US performance took place in March 2025, and TAO Forms were lucky members of the rapt audience at Roulette in Brooklyn that night; the group flew to Knoxville the next day to perform to a equally rapt audiences at Big Ears."

RAGANA & DROWSE Ash Souvenir LP
"In May of 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted and everyone in the Pacific Northwest was touched by its ash, its destructiveness, and its story, a shared experience that became an ash souvenir. Ash Souvenir is the collaborative album by Drowse (Kyle Bates) and Ragana (Maria and Noel), conceived in a shared sense of grief and collective memory rooted in the Pacific Northwest. Ash Souvenir was originally commissioned by and premiered at the 2024 edition of Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. Afterwards, the trio recorded the album at the legendary Unknown studio in Anacortes, Washington. Ash Souvenir confronts grief. During the writing process, Maria and Kyle were both in a painful, transitional period, moving back to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to struggling loved ones. This return home and the emotions it stirred echoed in Noel's own inherited history. Their grandmother escaped occupied Latvia in the 1940s and began a new life in the United States, eventually spending her final 25 years in a hand-built log cabin deep in the woods outside Shelton, Washington. Surrounded by fir and aspen, she lived in quiet self-reliance, her days shaped by isolation and resilience. The album combines Ragana's heavy, emotionally charged metal with Drowse's textural approach to sound. Across four long-form pieces, the trio's voices and instruments move between stark intimacy and overwhelming intensity, culminating in a collective refrain: 'there is nothing to lose.' Ash Souvenir is a sublime experience, conjuring both the power of a devastating eruption and the eerie stillness that lingers in its wake, ashen memories drifting through night air before rejoining the earth. Ragana have carved their niche as pioneers of the Pacific Northwestern queer black metal scene. They have released five albums since their formation in 2012, with 2023's Desolation's Flower as their first for The Flenser. Kyle Bates specializes in moody, glacial drone as Drowse, a vision that has spanned across five albums since beginning the project in 2018. His most recent, Wane into It, came out in 2022 on The Flenser, followed by a split LP in 2023 with Portland-based experimentalist Amulets."

The very first Bark Psychosis compilation, originally released in 1994, has now been repressed. Independency is a series of singles first issued between 1989 and 1992 and it charts Bark Psychosis' extraordinary period of evolution prior to the creation of their lone studio LP, Hex. Opening with the delicate "I Know," the set grows by leaps and bounds, expanding in complexity and innovation over the course of tracks like "Manman" and "Tooled Up" before culminating in the 21-minute improvisational ambient opus "Scum," perhaps the band's definitive moment.

CHOCOLATE WATCH BAND One Step Beyond LP
Exact repro of Tower label edition from 1969. "The third and final of the original studio albums by the Chocolate Watch Band, One Step Beyond is a bit misleading and contradictory. On the one hand, it's as close as any performing group called the Chocolate Watch Band ever got to making a finished album of their own, which is reflected in the fact that all but one song here was an original by the bandmembers; but on the other hand, this is a different Watch Band lineup, assembled by Sean Tolby and Bill Flores, including guitarist Mark Loomis and drummer Gary Andrijasevich (both of whom had left in 1967 to join the Tingle Guild), and original, Foothill College-era Chocolate Watch Band member Danny Phay (who'd also been in the Tingle Guild). Missing is David Aguilar, the band's one-time lead singer and most visible songwriter up to that time -- and the result is an album that has almost none of the influence of the Rolling Stones, and, instead, shows the greatest folk-rock influence in their history. The overall sound is brittle but melodic, reminiscent in some ways of the Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Charlatans, Moby Grape, and the Jefferson Airplane. Danny Phay isn't nearly as charismatic a singer as Aguilar, but he's not bad, either, and there are lots of interesting shared vocals. There's also quite a bit more guitar noodling here than on any previous Watch Band recording -- that's not necessarily a bad thing, though it does dilute some of the impact of the punkier moments. 'Devil's Motorcycle' is also of special interest to fans of Moby Grape, as it features the Grape's Jerry Miller subbing for Loomis on lead guitar. They shined on Ashford & Simpson's 'I Don't Need No Doctor' as well as the Loomis/Andrijasevich original 'Uncle Morris,' and 'Flowers' was a beautiful piece of folk-based psychedelia, while Sean Tolby's 'Fireface' recaptured some of the original band's thicker rock textures. The overall album, which clocks in at well under 25 minutes, is an interesting and well-played coda to the band's history, but is also a long way from the sound of the group's earlier releases." ? Tresor Records announce forthcoming special editions of the entire catalog of Drexciya and related projects. 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the passing of James Stinson and the releases of the Transllusion and Shifted Phases albums. In recognition, the rights holders, their families, and the label have commissioned Detroit-based contemporary artist Matthew Angelo Harrison to re-conceptualize the covers of Tresor's Drexciya-related catalog. The series starts with Neptune's Lair, first released in 1999, with the Hydro Doorways single arriving shortly after. These records, individually and as a catalog, represent some of the most crucial moments in the Tresor label history, with the sound and mythic world of Drexciya undoubtedly inspiring generations. Detroit's Drexciya, with their close ties to Underground Resistance, emerged in 1991. With an encoded agenda and socio-political mission aimed at the world, a new page of Drexciya's grand history was written entitled Neptune's Lair. Drexciya is the sound of originality embodying all the musical styles and history that Detroit the city has seen and been part of. Drexciya is music for change that defies categorization; traditionally armed with freestyle electro, techno, funk, and jazz while covering an entire spectrum of moods. While words won't do Neptune's Lair proper justice, rootsy Kraftwerkian techno, gives way to G-style electro, while jazzy freestyle funk evolves alongside classic 4/4 club sound. Although the roots run deep, Neptune's Lair heralded an important new chapter in the musical connections between Detroit's finest and Tresor.

VON OSWALD, MORITZ Silencio 2LP
2025 restock; double-LP version. What are the differences and similarities between human and artificial sound, between oscillations generated by vocal cords and synthesizer voices, voltage amplified by speakers? On Silencio, Moritz von Oswald works with a 16-voice choir to explore this concept. Drawing from the ensemble works of long-standing inspirations Edgard Vare?se, Gyo?rgy Ligeti, and Iannis Xenakis, von Oswald and Vocalconsort Berlin delve into the space between sounds, creating a deeply textured collection that shifts between light and ethereal and dark and dissonant. As masterfully demonstrated in the early work of von Oswald and Mark Ernestus's influential Basic Channel project, repetition and reduction are key elements here, much in the tradition of techno and minimalism. The vast dynamism of the human voice adds to the profound weight of electronics while offering up a rhythmic source and sonic noise palette unexplored in von Oswald's repertoire. In Silencio, von Oswald dredges a dank murk, pulling clouds over a distant pulse. It hangs, ready to take on new forms. The compositions were written in von Oswald's Berlin studio on classic synthesizers, such as the EMS VCS3 & AKS, Prophet V, Oberheim 4-Voice and the Moog Model 15. These abstract recordings were transcribed to sheet music for choir by Berlin-based Finnish composer and pianist, Jarkko Riihima?ki and performed by Vocalconsort Berlin in O?lberg church in the city's Kreuzberg district, only few meters down the road from where Dubplates & Mastering and Hard Wax opened their doors for music enthusiasts for many years so long. The recordings of the choral versions were then incorporated into the synthesized parts of the album and brought into a new electronic context; in Silencio, the focus is not on using one means to imitate the other, but to sonically discuss the tensions and harmonies between the two worlds and create a dialogue between them. The relationship between von Oswald and Tresor Records goes back thirty years, all the way to Blake Baxter's Dream Sequence in 1991 -- which von Oswald engineered alongside Thomas Fehlmann. The collaboration with Fehlmann lived on, seeing the duo team up as 3MB with Eddie Fowlkes or Juan Atkins. More recently, the Detroit-Berlin connection continued as Juan Atkins & Moritz von Oswald present Borderland (TRESOR 262CD, 2013).

GARCIA, LESLIE Animistic Resonance LP
Animistic Resonance marks a new stage for artist and electronic musician Leslie Garc?a, as it is her first album under her own name, following several releases as Microhm and her parallel work as founder of the contemporary art studio Interspecifics, where she has developed an extensive body of sonic projects presented in major museums and programs around the world. The album is the culmination of a profound and extended exploration of sound as language. It is also a statement against the classicism of long-form ambient pieces. Narratively, each track is conceived as a finely detailed work that functions as a condensed temporal fragment, each with its own individuality while simultaneously forming part of a broader universe. The compositional language of the album draws on minimalist structures, deep listening strategies, and experimental approaches to electronic sound. Each track offers a meditation on repetition, density, and micro-variation, unfolding like a sonic landscape shaped by temporal tension and perceptual ambiguity. Animistic Resonance resists categorization, situating itself between ambient, noise, and abstract rhythm, while grounding its aesthetic in a Latin American sensibility that embraces technological poetics, affective depth, and critical imagination. The album invites listeners to move beyond the surface and inhabit a world of vibrational and animistic temporalities. It offers a refuge in sound, a suspended space where calm can emerge. In the midst of contemporary turbulence, Animistic Resonance opens the door to imagining new ways of listening and feeling, demanding an embodied and visceral form of engagement. Composition sound synthesis and programming by Leslie Garc?a. Composed between 2022 and 2024 in Mexico City. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at Black Knoll Studio, NY. Artwork by Daniel Castrej?n.

QUINIE Forefowk, Mind Me CD
Scottish singer Quinie presents her third album Forefowk, Mind Me with Upset The Rhythm. The record is largely sung in Scots language, one of Scotland's three official languages along with Gaelic and English. Quinie sings with a style inspired by Scottish Traveller singers. "I began singing unaccompanied Scots Song in 2015 after hearing Scots Traveller singer Sheila Stewart on the radio. Initially I felt like I shouldn't sing these songs because I'm not a Traveller, and I saw people around me doing that in a way that made me uncomfortable. But on the other hand this music made sense to me and I felt driven to learn. Over the years I have met Traveller friends who taught me that settled people sharing these songs could contribute to raising awareness. Scottish Travellers are marginalized and discriminated against in modern Scotland, despite being custodians of so many of our important traditions. So I started to perform them and tell this story. From there I built on my repertoire and started writing my own songs." To develop this record, Quinie travelled across Argyll with her horse. They went on a pilgrimage of sorts through the ancient landscapes of the West of Scotland to explore the interconnected relationships between people, ancestors, animals, and place. The album's vinyl release is accompanied by a book and film, documenting this unusual research process. Forefowk, Mind Me was recorded in August 2024 at The Big Shed in Highland Perthshire with support from Creative Scotland. Quinie is accompanied by an ensemble of musicians: Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh (viola), Oliver Pitt (duduk, bouzouki, percussion), Harry G?rski-Brown (small pipes, violin), and Stevie Jones (double bass, recording, and mixing). Each of these artists brings their own distinctive voice, bridging contemporary experimental practice with worlds of traditional and early music.

FUKUI, RYO Mellow Dream LP
2025 repress. "Regular edition" on 140 gram vinyl. We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) present the official reissue of criminally overlooked Japanese jazz gem Mellow Dream by Hokkaido pianist wunderkind Ryo Fukui, originally released in 1977. Released in conjunction with the its legendary predecessor 1976's Scenery (WRJ 001CD/LP/LTD-LP). Firmly standing on the foundation he laid down with Scenery, Ryo Fukui continues his exploration of modal, bop, and cool jazz sounds with meticulous grace and absolute mastery. As its title suggests, Mellow Dream ventures into slightly mellower, more soulful, and sometimes more contemplative territories (the Bill Evans-reminiscent "Mellow Dream" and "My Foolish Heart") while still packing the commanding punch Fukui's work is loved for, as heard on the amazingly bombastic "Baron Potato Blues" or the gigantic McCoy Tyner/John Coltrane-influenced "Horizon" which sees each member of the trio -- Satoshi Denpo is on bass and Yoshinori Fukui is on drums -- demonstrating their virtuosity for nine exhilarating minutes. With his sophomore album, Ryo Fukui swings from melancholy to vibrant joy with ease, and reminds you that jazz is best served with a pinch of blues, and displays an immensely rare combination of pure talent, unique personal approach and focused discipline. The man undeniably deserves a spot in the pantheon of all-time great jazz pianists. After releasing the outstanding Scenery and Mellow Dream back-to-back, Ryo Fukui worked on developing his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui), and even releasing two live albums. He sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that all jazz lovers should explore. Sourced from the original masters. Mastered at half speed; 140 gram vinyl; includes sticker.

Synths were rigged up in a DIY sci-fi fashion, wires and cables everywhere. it was heavy. In 2025 we know heavy takes on all forms. It doesn't need to be guitars. We know punk rock takes on all forms, it's not defined by spikey hair. Nothing is anything anymore. Wrong Speed is proud to be releasing the second Kling Klang album. It makes sense.
