OMICIL, JOWEE sMiLes CD
sMiLes, the eleventh album by Canadian-Haitian musician Jowee Omicil, stands out as a vibrant manifesto of freedom and authenticity. Fearless and boundless, the album celebrates self-expression, the beauty of imperfection, and the courage to trust the music. Through eleven tracks and a bonus track featuring multi-award-winning singer Dominique Fils-Aim?, Jowee unfolds a uniquely rich soundscape. The album navigates between the legacy of Abbey Lincoln and the resonances of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, and Roy Hargrove, while asserting a deeply personal identity. Between Cap-Ha?tien and 52nd Street in New York, between voodoo drums and cosmic vibrations, sMiLes illustrates the approach of an artist in constant search of innovation, faithful to his essence and his creative freedom. Also featuring Ludovic Louis, Mawuena Kodjovi, Malika Zarra, and Jonathan Jurion.

ROTTING TELEPATHIES Rotting Tapes II LP
Black Editions presents the first ever vinyl and digital editions of Rotting Tapes II by Rotting Telepathies, the free-punk trip of spectral poet Michio Kadotani and High Rise founder Nanjo Asahito. Recorded live in 1982, and originally issued as a limited cassette edition by the notorious label of the Tokyo underground, La Musica Records. Kadotani's music has previously only been documented on a 1991 CD on P.S.F. (entitled Rotting Telepathies), and the recently rediscovered '87 KAD 3:4:5:6 set, which makes this disinterring of a highly limited 1990s La Musica cassette edition particularly significant. The unrelenting dunt of the rhythm section here, locked-in and revolving around Nanjo's bowel-rumbling bass, is the perfect foil for Kadotani's guitar -- sometimes cutting, sometimes spindly -- and the stream of babble that was his vocal style. It's frazzled but underpinned by viciously sharp logic. A beautiful representation of Kadotani, the man Nanjo once called "the only real punk in Japan." Available for the first time on LP or any physical form aside from a small run of hand assembled cassettes on the Japanese La Musica label in mid '90s (LA-107). Housed in a custom die-cut, "Uni-Pak" style gatefold with metallic ink, spot finishes and matching La Musica inner sleeve. La Musica Records was a label founded by Asahito Nanjo in Tokyo during the 1990s. It released nearly 200 cassettes and CD-r's, all handmade in micro-editions sold at shows. The catalog featured artists and recordings largely of obscure, often completely unknown origin, sanctioned and "grey-area" documentation of the Tokyo psychedelic underground.

KAL-EL Astral Voyager Vol. 2 LP
"The continuation of a multi-dimensional journey, Astral Voyager Vol. 2 picks up with interstellar bounty hunter Mica evading pursuit by The Nine as she traverses time and space to bring in her marks. An infectious blast of sci-fi metal and soaring desert anthems, Astral Voyager Vol. 2 is a record about the dangers of manipulation and struggling for individuality against the unseen powers who try to keep people compliant and controlled. Powerplay Magazine called Astral Voyager Vol. 1 'a storming, righteous, red-hot hunk of stoner-psych,' while Witching Buzz said, 'Kal-El don't just gaze at the stars; they chart them' and Slightly Fuzzed proclaimed the album 'A must-hear for stoner rock disciples and cosmic doom wanderers alike.'"

MALTED MILK Time Out CD
Time Out, a pause, like an injunction to suspend the course of events in order to project oneself into a more serene future, is the title of Malted Milk's eighth album. From the haunting Afro beat of the title track to the decadent boogaloo of "I Feel Numb", via the ballad "What a Night" and the funky "It's Alright", the band demonstrates its mastery of arrangements, its creative ability and its talent for revisiting the soul/funk genre. As with the previous album, 1975, Marco Cinelli is back on writing and production duties, bringing undeniable added value to the band's sound and aesthetic. The live translation of this album bears Malted Milk's trademark precision, energy, instrumental talent and group cohesion. Malted Milk once again demonstrates its musical strength and affirms the special place the band occupies on the current soul scene. Also featuring Benin International Musical and Ben L'oncle Soul.

MOEBIUS & PLANK Rastakraut Pasta LP
2026 restock. Vinyl release. Dieter Moebius and Conny Plank got to know each other through their work on Cluster's 1971 album and remained close friends until Plank's death in 1987. They made a congenial pair as musicians, as amply demonstrated by their first album as a duo, Rastakraut Pasta, originally released on Sky Records in 1980. On this album, drums, electric guitars and bass are the cornerstones of every track; they provide the framework to which Moebius adds fresh color and life with his synthesizers. Thanks to the technical merits of Plank's studio, the keyboards sound barely distinguishable from one another. No samples -- strictly analog from start to finish. Holger Czukay (Can) plays bass on three pieces and his consummate professionalism sees his virtuosity finely-tuned to the concept of Moebius and Plank. Moebius has a predilection for surrealist cascades of noise, heard throughout the album, grotesque yet playful. An enigmatic form of pop music came into being on this LP, a breakneck, elegant mix of diverse elements: a touch of Krautrock, some avant-garde pop, new German electronica, even sporadic echoes of reggae. 180 gram vinyl LP housed in a printed inner sleeve with full-color photos and notes by Asmus Tietchens.

SCHLIPPENBACH TRIO Elf Bagatellen 2LP
The historical importance, influence, and stature of the Schlippenbach Trio was cemented long ago. Formed in 1970 by German pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach in the early days of European free jazz, the group also featured British saxophonist Evan Parker and German drummer Paul Lovens, and soon formed the core of the mighty Globe Unity Orchestra from that point on. As heard on its 1972 debut for FMP Pakistani Pomade -- reissued by Cien Fuegos back in 2015 -- its foundational music helped establish the group's feverish free improvisation as a dominant thread in the history of European free jazz. The intellectual and artistic curiosity of the group's members, to say nothing of their paradigm-shifting technique and collective sensibility, changed the course of free improv forever. Schlippenbach Trio soon snapped back into its working methodology on its follow up album, Physics, in 1993, which further elevates the singularity of Elf Bagatellen. The album captured a different side of the trio and helped inform the modern classical tilt in European improvised music. Cien Fuegos now reissues this undeniable classic, making it available on vinyl for the first time ever.

THESE THINGS HAPPEN A Gentle Reminder LP
Corbett vs. Dempsey and De Plattenbakkerij collaborate on A Gentle Reminder, the new long-playing vinyl record album by These Things Happen. A transatlantic quartet featuring three Chicagoans and a pianist from Holland, These Things Happen have, with a slight personnel shift (switching bassists from Joshua Abrams to Jason Roebke), remained in existence since for more than a decade. This is the band's second release, following a recording made in 2016 (released by Astral Spirits in 2022), and it continues their dedication to the music of Misha Mengelberg and Thelonious Monk, as well as original material by Hoogland and Jackson. The sound is lean, self-aware, at times humorous, and its generosity suggests the common wellspring of ideas shared by Amsterdam's instant composition scene and the creative music community in the Windy City.

BASHO, ROBBIE Live in Forli, Italy 1982 LP
2026 restock; LP version. Robbie Basho (1940-86), who died young after a stroke, never got his due in the culture at large, but steel-string guitar enthusiasts have known for decades that he was one of the greats of "American Primitivism". Technically adept and compositionally imaginative, fusing the music of many cultures into a mesmerizing solo style, he has been an inspiration for many; his music has generated a surge of interest in recent years. This 1982 concert was part of a four-show Italian tour. It took place at the 18th-century Palazzo Gaddi that housed the local music high school and was mostly used for classical concerts, in an intimate space co-organizer Mario Calvitti (whose memories of the events surrounding this concert make up the bulk of the liner notes) says Basho called it "one lovely little room where I could play all night." Only previously released incompletely as a download, this show can now be heard in its full glory. This release is in cooperation with the Official Robbie Basho Archives. No. 2 in the RB-Archives-Live series. Produced by Buck Curran; Co-released with Obsolete Recordings."American musician Robbie Basho (1940-1986) is without doubt one of the greatest pioneers of world guitar music. To this day, his songs and compositions for the acoustic guitar remain wholly unique, contemporary, and otherworldy. Though largely unknown in Italy when he toured there in 1982 (in the company of Italian acoustic guitarist Maurizio Angeletti), the small to medium size audiences who attended his performances were overwhelmingly sympathetic to his musical vision and deeply entranced in the glow of his musical presence. From what is documented on this recording from Forl?, we are given witness to Basho's idiosyncratic spirit and musical artistry. Wielding only a six and twelve-string guitar and his powerful voice, we hear rapturous fingerpicking and singing. As the concert evolves, Basho's spirit rises high above terra firma as he transforms into a wild mythical winged stallion, riding waves of colour and sound ... charging across plains of cosmic light towards the outer regions of space and time." --Buck Curran, September 11, 2017, Bergamo, Italy

FARBEN textstar+ 2LP
2026 restock. On textstar+ Jan Jelinek brings together the material from the CMYK series, four EPs he released between 1999 and 2002 under the pseudonym farben (the German word for both colors and paints). On double-LP vinyl for the first time. The selection of tracks has been remastered from the original tapes, joined by two additional pieces that appeared on compilations during the same period. Another new element is the Polaroid, showing the origins of a world: Jelinek's home studio in Berlin at the time. The farben project has its roots in Jelinek's love of house as a reductionist vision of soul. Of four to the floor as a proposition that can be accessed anywhere. Of electronic dance music as a realm of possibility that can be continually expanded. farben was written as contemporary house music. As a text about excitement and euphoria. The arrangements were made directly while recording to DAT, on a twelve-channel mixing desk. Several track titles suggest a link to live concerts, coupled with the context of machine music and bedroom recording. Others affirm pop music's most extravagant stock phrases about various states of love. farben is the opposite of genre: a music spawning new terms (clicks & cuts, micro-house) that never manage to fully capture it. The four CMYK EPs are designed as a network of references that cannot be missed but that can also never be precisely deciphered. The vectors of sound, word and image point to Isaac Hayes and Ornette Coleman, to Detroit and the first generation of the Red Army Faction, to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. So multifarious that they are distorted to the point of recognition. Overall, you hear sonic docufictions whose appealing vagueness derives precisely from this oscillation between clarity and ambiguity, which is also the source of their poetry: the lyricism of the pure circulation of signs. The sampler Jelinek used for these tracks had to be fed with floppy disks, imposing a memory limit of 1.44 megabytes per audio quotation from soul or jazz records. As a necessary consequence of this, the individual references, like the dots of color, are dissolved into details and abstractions. Even two decades after its original release, textstar+ does not come across as an epitaph to the modern era. Instead, it appears as a euphoric affirmation of the utopias of the twentieth century, translated into new sound texts via the aesthetic strategies of abstraction, collage, networking, and speculation. Gatefold sleeve; includes download code.

CORPUSSE Delusions LP
"Finally the second release on the Unknown Province sublabel of Feeding Tube records and it's a doozy: the self-released 1988 LP Delusions by Corpusse. Well known to deep-underground scenes in Canada, few know about the Canadian 'King of Rock N Roll' elsewhere. Corpusse was still a teenager in the Park-Ex neighborhood of Montreal when Delusions was released. The photo on the back tells you all you need to know featuring the young man standing on the city's shittiest back-alley snowbank. Nothing has really ever come close to the sheer cathartic energy -- some might say insanity -- of Corpusse's lyrics, toeing the line between Shakespearean monologue and GG Allin rant. Beneath him rumbles a Korg Poly-6 ('best fucking synth ever' he says) and a Welson organ. Somebody would probably call it Dungeon Synth now but this was 1988. The decrepit, burned-out city being delusionally painted by a bald and bearded artist on the cover is certainly the location in which Corpusse's gothic dramas are set. Most surely a metaphor for Montreal in 1988 -- a veritable Gotham by all accounts. Includes liner notes by Corpusse himself, describing the scene vividly. I've always felt Delusions formed a holy-trinity of self-released Montreal LPs of the 1980s alongside Carlyle Williams' Gotta Go For It and the American Devices Decensortized LPs. All three possess brain-fried, maverick visions of rock n roll which sometimes border on psychosis." --Alex Moskos, Montreal Jan 2026

CUNNINGHAM/VOLT/SERRA Introspective Movement, Nonchalant Steps LP
"First vinyl offering by this fine Barcelona improv trio featuring Mark Cunningham (trumpet), Pablo Volt (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Andreu Serra (many forms of strings). C/V/S's two previous cassettes include 2022's Ad Hoc, and the work on Introspective Movement is as brilliant as always. While there's much utilization of effects, pedals and delays, the music here is definitely in the jazz realm. Mark's floating clouds of trumpet capture the futuristic Chet Baker vibe he so often explores, but Pablo's approach to trumpet and flugelhorn puts me in mind of the more brambly work of the Italian brass master, Enrico Rava. Andreu is a multi-instrumentalist, but here he is focused on guitars and their cousins, playing in an abstractly expressive mode that can recall the most reflective passages created by Keith Rowe. Which is not to imply that C/V/S's music is in any way mimetic. Expatriated to Barcelona for 35 years, Mark has developed the habit of making music with some of the best musicians that city's underground has produced. His many projects can seem related insomuch as they usually rely on sophisticated textural juxtapositions rather than high energy blasts to create their frisson, and so it is with C/V/S. The dozen pocket-sized compositions on Introspective Movement rarely combine elements in jarring ways, although the pieces can be dizzyingly unbalanced at times. This results from the way the trio presents multiple points of melodic/sonic focus, emphasizing the multiplicity of equally weighted individual voices, rather than the smoosh of purely collective aktion. It's a great way to do things, and allows the three to introduce some very weird electronic elements without disturbing the music's beautiful sonance. The results here are as fucking boss as anything Mark has done yet. And that is saying something." --Byron Coley, 2026

ABRONIA Shapes Unravel LP
Some bands make it obvious from the first few notes -- a single tone, a specific push on the tempo, the way the air moves around the instruments -- and you know it's them. Abronia is one of those bands. From the first thud of their 32-inch bass drum to the coil of pedal steel winding through the haze, the sound of this Portland-based six-piece is unmistakable. Over the past decade, Abronia has been refining their singular blend of widescreen psychedelia, desert noir, Eastern drone, avant-jazz, doom, post-punk, and acid-folk -- channeling something that feels at once ritualistic and cinematic. Now, the band presents their fourth studio album, Shapes Unravel. Sonically, this is Abronia's most ambitious and compositionally daring record to date -- the album moves with a strange gravitational pull, layering grief, haunted memory, and flashes of transcendence into something emotionally expansive and structurally bold. Moments of crushing weight give way to eerie stillness, held together by an urgency that feels vital, not calculated. It's a record that doesn't politely wait for your attention; it pulls you into its orbit whether you're ready or not. Listeners' first glimpse into Shapes Unravel is the single "New Imposition." The track opens with echoing guitar plucking and eerie pedal steel and unfolds quickly into a cinematic score, transporting you instantly into the world of Abronia. When asked about the song, singer/saxophone player Keelin Mayer says, "Going into a Fred Meyer (Pacific Northwest one stop shopping) during the pandemic -- walking around the store while your drug addicted boyfriend shove racks of ribs, ice cream and deodorant down his pants, while people are shooting up in the bathroom. We think someone steals his iPhone at the self-checkout, but it turns up shoved between two bags of chips. You only realize your boyfriend was shoplifting when he pulls the stolen things out of his pants in the car. The guilt and shame you feel as you watch so many people succumb to addiction. That Fred Meyer location is now closed because it couldn't sustain the wave of crime. Watching the fruits of unbridled capitalism and the greed of the ruling elite bloom into full technicolor. Try to run away before the wave gets you too."

BLACK RANDY AND THE METROSQUAD Pass the Dust, I Think I'm Bowie. LP
2026 restock. Originally released in 1979 on Dangerhouse Records. "Limited vinyl LP repressing. Pass the Dust I Think I'm Bowie was the only full-length wax put out on the short-lived but highly influential Dangerhouse Records in late '79 and it's full of short, sharp funky revue style tunes with some avant touches here and there, with Black Randy reminiscent of a punk rock David Peel. Numbers about sleeping in arcades, Idi Amin, narcs, laundromats and sperm banks plus anything else to do with the messed -up life he was living needles and too much alcohol. This great version of 'Shaft' has to be heard to get a full understanding of the workings of Randy's thought patterns. Dig the budget organ sound that fits right in with the overall sleazy grooves that his Metro Squad is laying down (it was made up of the cream of LA punks on sabbatical from their own combos such as the Eyes or Randoms) all played with a tight but loose abandon. (Black Randy & The Metro Squad appeared in 1981 satirical punk rock film Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains, performing 'I Slept in an Arcade'.) Black Randy is one of the lost voices of the punk revolution, though by no means is he any way near a punk in the accepted commercial sense. Black Randy (John Morris) died on November 11th, 1988. He still has no peers, amen to that."

EASTMAN, JULIUS Femenine 2LP
2026 restock. Double-LP version, black vinyl in gatefold sleeve -- on vinyl for the first time, in a revelatory new remaster by Jim O'Rourke. In 2016, Finnish label frozen reeds published the premi?re release of Julius Eastman's Femenine, for chamber ensemble. Laying unheard for decades prior, the release documented a 1974 performance by the S.E.M. Ensemble with the composer himself on piano. Lauded in Pitchfork (awarded "Best New Music"), The New Yorker, and The New York Times, the first release of Femenine served as the catalyst that propelled Eastman's music into the mainstream. Articles on Eastman's music and its immediate disruptive impact on the classical canon began to appear in every major news organ in the English-speaking world and beyond. His music began to be programmed in major concerts and festivals, several of these entirely themed around his life and work. New recordings sprang up from a fresh generation of musicians engaging with his ideas and interpreting them for a modern audience hungry to hear more. But the raw, emotionally cascading spirit of the original performance continues to inspire listeners. Joyous, insistent, and immersive, Femenine bathes the listener in surges of tonal color from intertwining winds, piano, violin, pitched percussion, synthesizer, and -- uniquely -- the composer's own invention of mechanized sleigh bells, which provide the 72-minute piece with its characteristic pulse. Femenine was recorded live by Steve Cellum -- co-producer of Arthur Russell's World of Echo -- and the new vinyl reissue has been remastered from the original high-definition tape transfer by Jim O'Rourke at his Steamroom studio in the Japanese mountains. Illuminating sleeve notes are provided by composer and author Mary Jane Leach, key figure of the Eastman revival and co-editor of the Gay Guerrilla collection of essays on his life and music. Gatefold. "Eastman's stated aim with Femenine was to please listeners, saying of the piece that 'the end sounds like the angels opening up heaven . . . should we say euphoria?" --Mary Jane Leach

BAILEY & PAUL MOTIAN, DEREK Duo in Concert LP
2026 restock, last copies. Frozen Reeds presents the only recorded duo playing of two legendary musical figures. Derek Bailey and Paul Motian -- two longstanding pioneers of distinct strains of improvised music -- came together for a brief period of collaboration in the early 1990s. Tapes of their two known live performances (one at Groningen's JazzMarathon festival in the Netherlands, the other a year later at New Music Cafe, NYC) were recently unearthed in the Incus archives, and their contents will surprise and delight fans of both supremely idiosyncratic musicians. The Groningen concert (1990) is released on vinyl, while the New York date (1991) is included with the digital download, which is included free of charge for all purchasers. A conversation between Bill Frisell and Henry Kaiser on Bailey, Motian, their intertwined backgrounds, and the significance of these recordings is included as sleeve-note insert. Each player bringing decades of crucial experience to their encounters -- with histories taking in vast swathes of the development of jazz and free improvisation -- these fleeting shared moments provide some of the most riveting playing in the career of either. There is precious little recorded evidence of Motian as a free improviser, but his mastery is beyond any doubt in these recordings. From knife-edge precision to textural haze, Motian's palette is astounding, but perhaps even more impressive is his confidence in the non-idiomatic conversation itself. Pushing far beyond the established vocabulary of free percussion, his playing allows a measured degree of repetition to take form, giving rise to almost song-like structures. In turn, Bailey allows some of his most unashamedly melodic passages to unfold without a mote of his trademark contrariness or antagonism. Patterns that would be acerbically disrupted elsewhere are allowed to settle, with variations of note and timbre introduced more gradually than is typical of his playing. When forceful changes in dynamics or tone do arrive, they do so in such close tandem with Motian's rhythmic and textural transitions as to beggar belief. The guitarist's duos with percussionists (Jamie Muir, Han Bennink, John Stevens) arguably provide some of the highlights of his discography. Duo in Concert represents a strong addition to the list. An elegant sense of construction pervades the sets, as the duo ably fulfil the promise of free improvisation: carving out hugely compelling, expertly balanced, and thrillingly paced music as if from thin air.

CULLUM, SPENCER Spencer Cullum's Coin Collection 3 LP
"In a bid to escape real world news, Nashville-via-Romford pedal steel master Spencer Cullum holed himself up in his shed to complete his Coin Collection trilogy. Leaning on his musical community for company (Rich Ruth, Oisin Leech, Allison De Groot, Erin Rae, Annie Williams, Dominic Billett, Jim Hoke) who sent in recordings that he then pulled together in his make shift garden studio. The result is a much more stripped-down album -- a kaleidoscope of languid blues, psychedelic country and sleepy folk, that thematically leans on British folklore and the resistance of nature. File next to Ted Lucas, Iain Matthews, and Robert Wyatt. A student of B.J. Cole, Spencer has played/plays pedal steel for Angel Olsen, Kesha, Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, Caitlin Rose, and more."

ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO El Pulso Del Acero: Shinkansen CD
El Pulso del Acero: Shinkansen is Esplendor Geom?trico's new album, featuring 16 powerful tracks that showcase the electric energy of this group, with a unique blend of trance-inducing industrial rhythms combined with collages of voices and noise. The raw power of their early work is also present here in some brilliant reconstructions of '80s tracks turning out very different from the originals. Songs such as "Auto Reverse" will be especially appreciated by the most avid fans of EG's early sound. Other tunes of futuristic industrial music closer to their previous album, Strepitus Rhythmicus, are also included. Ten tracks were recorded in 2025 in Tokyo, where Arturo Lanz (founding member of E.G.) currently resides. The other six were released, only on CD, in an ultra-limited edition shared with the group De Fabriek in 2023, long sold out, now finally on vinyl for the first time. Born in 1980 as a trio, and currently a duo formed by Arturo Lanz (founding member) and Saverio Evangelista (member since 1991), Esplendor Geom?trico is an influential and international electronic cult band and also a rare case in the Spanish music scene, as they have developed their own independent path aside from tags, fashion or trends, in spite of being often classified as industrial music. Their career for more than four decades hasn't had interruptions. They haven't stopped composing, releasing albums, or playing live. Their influence has marked many later artists, usually classified in the so-called industrial music or rhythm & noise, as well as artists from current techno and certain types of experimental noise music.

Best tunes for your answering machine is the debut album of oblique, introspective electronic music by the mysterious solo artist Tekamolo. Fusing melancholic synth pop and absurdist trip hop, Best tunes for your answering machine is a special assemblage of pitch-modified vocals, retro-futurist samples and freeform electronics that coalesces into music both outlandish and bittersweet, playful and profound. Produced by a renowned artist, opting to conceal their identity under the guise of a new pseudonym, Tekamolo presents a series of curious, incognito confessionals. An album led by a voice like a sentient, heavy-hearted android, the nine tracks collected here contend with themes of inertia, solitude and longing, revealing an inspired, affecting stream of messages from an unknown caller. Without preconceptions tied to provenance, this is music liberated from the burdens of biographical detail. Music that eschews ego and the cult of the self. An album that can be heard purely for the strange, poignant sounds unfurled throughout. For Tekamolo, the album signifies an attempt to navigate aesthetic reductionism, as well as an absolute sense of seclusion: "An audio diary of a lonely soul. Broken, wounded mantra-songs. Memories of things that never happened. Dreams that never had the chance to be dreamed. Disassembled songs. As if testing the limits of emptiness -- how much void can a song endure while still remaining a song? How much can be stripped away, how bare can it be, and still, the groove lingers, the melody pierces the memory, sinking into the listener's mind. These are the skeletons of songs, an attempt to assemble music from the bare minimum -- words, sounds, fragments of memory. The songs are filled with desperate calm. They are not sung to the world, nor to anyone tangible, but solely to oneself and to the unseen. In a way, they could be considered songs of the end of the world: you wake up, and there is not a single person left in the world. At least, no one you can see. You wander through empty streets and deserted shopping malls, humming softly to yourself, hoping that someone -- anyone -- might hear you." Best tunes for your answering machine is a sui generis conception of warped 21st century blues from an enigmatic figure, a work filled with surreal, indelible songs of modern isolation. Lost contemporary hymns, now recovered. Voicemails worth hearing.

STASIW, GREG Guesswork LP
Experimental musician Greg Stasiw presents debut album of radiant, free-flowing electronics on Guesswork. Music for psychoactive exploration made over a four-year period, incorporating ambient, minimalism, intricate sound design and Japanese environmental music. Greg Stasiw is an experimental musician, visual artist and writer from New England, Northeastern USA. An itinerant polymath, Stasiw has spent time living, working and traveling in New York, Tokyo, Toronto, Paris, Boston, and Bratislava. As well as studying anthropology, animation and illustration, Stasiw has always had a close connection with music. With his debut album Guesswork, the aural and visual inspirations that underpin Stasiw's creative life intersect, in a pure, radiant soundworld of space, depth and immaculate clarity. Futuristic, pellucid soundscapes incorporating ambient, minimalism, intricate sound design, and Japanese environmental music are deftly arranged with evanescent chimes, serene tone float, suspended organ notes and curious sci-fi resonances. Like stepping into some space age meditation garden, if soundtracked by the likes of Hiroshi Yoshimura, Harold Budd, Norman McLaren, and Pauline Anna Strom, the thirteen tracks of Guesswork create an exceptional listening experience of wide-eyed wonder, sleek tranquility, gentle melancholy, and singular discovery. Initially inspired by a proposed collaboration with the visual artist Philippe Shewchenko, Stasiw was nevertheless compelled by Shewchenko's visuals. He continued dabbling with the sound pieces he had created for the shelved project, ultimately arriving at an unprecedented culmination. Opening with sonorous pulses of drone on "Signature," the album proceeds through the idyllic electronica of "Field" -- music for interplanetary flotation tanks -- and into the gorgeous sotto voce piano of "Plant." "Humidity" evokes verdant off-world wildlife with resonant percussive echoes and abundant bird song, while "Boutique" combines crystalline scales and enveloping ambient vapors. Like entering different zones in a strange new world, these tracks all seem to summon distinct environments; a slow-moving scene of underwater calm, a surreal wilderness, a fantastical garden, a playground, a sacred space. For Stasiw, Guesswork is the speculative outcome of his interest in how sound and space interrelate, as well as the result of channeling his inspirations. It represents a miraculously engaging, idiosyncratic soundworld from an accomplished (non-)musician, content to do guesswork; to see where it might lead and what wonders it might open up.

GONCHAROVA, VALENTINA Ocean: Symphony for Electric Violin and Other Instruments in 10+ Parts 2LP
2026 restock. Valentina Goncharova's double-LP fundamental conceptual musical work released in full uncut form as part of Hidden Harmony Lost Tapes series. Restored and mastered from the original 6.3mm analog tapes. A large-scale work comprising eleven parts of varied, brooding, mystical reflection in which the author alters the instrumentation to fit both programmatic and musical character of each section.Ultra deluxe archival release from Hidden Harmony Recordings, based in Tallinn, Estonia. 2x12" 200-gram vinyl records in poly lined inner sleeves, 33RPM, black vinyl. Thick old style tip-on gatefold outer sleeve. Includes a 12-page booklet, which detailly explain the album conceptual basis, background and creation context, and provides insights into unique sound recording and technical solutions adapted during album recording in 1988. Created and written with direct involvement of V. Goncharova and I. Zubkov.Liner notes: "My task is to allow the listener to penetrate deeper into the music. The music is wholly improvisational. It has no concept in the rational sense of the word. Its concept is purely intuitive. It presumes The Law of Analogies: 'As above so below. Man is the same as the Universe. The Universe is the same as Man.' ('Emerald Tablet' by Hermes Trismegistus). This intuition is a kind of rephrased logic which uses many more symbols which contain not only philosophical but also imaginative meanings/visionary interpretations. This music is a stream of consciousness in its purest form: not an imitation of a stream, as in the 'suggestive poetry' of the 20th century, but a stream where one flow is superimposed on another (a multilateral passage of recording). And, if we think this flow of music will be better understood under the influence of a verbal flow, then the verbal flow should also be more intuitive and associative, as objective for this short write-up you are currently reading. Ocean did not appear within the coordinate system of logical scientific thinking of the last four centuries. It can be said that it is based on an intuitive concept of representations of the world which are captured in music figuratively. Similar to how myths were created in time immemorial with only partial support from verbal associations. Ocean is an experience of passing the human, soul, and mind through the different states of the material world: birth, development, and achievement of perfection, transformation at the points of 'The Way' and 'Silence', the manifestation of the harmony of the world (Om), which until then had remained in a latent state. It is averse to both mainstream contemporary physics and fringe scientific research. It exists outside their explanatory power. Ocean is the source of all forms that can receive their life within time and space. Here it is. It has everything: beautiful and terrible, good and evil, self-sacrifice, and betrayal. Boundless love and inspired creativity. But contact does not happen immediately. The memory of a bygone civilization is still fresh, and of the dearest things left with it."

PELLISSIER QUINTET, FLORIAN Pacifiques Biches CD
Wild by nature, the Does of the Florian Pellissier Quintet could never be contained in a creative pen that would have forced them never to cross potential geographical limits. Travelers, spending their energy without restraint to let the hard bop of their jazz wander and export itself wherever the groove guided them, they went as far as Africa or South America, from the Cape of Good Hope to Rio. Rio, precisely where, for their last appearance, exposure to a brief electric current had carried them into outer space. A revelation. Furious strides, exhausting gambols, the Does had done so much that they could not escape the obvious call of calm and serenity. Freed from distances, and after a stop in Colombia to mingle with the crowd at the Barranquilla carnival, it was California and its Pacific coast they reached, to rest before the peaceful immensity of the ocean. One hundred sixty-five million square kilometers, an infinite expanse to contemplate in order to fling wide open the gates to an even vaster space. A spiritual domain conducive to the search for new sounds. That of the open sea, where measuring miles is neither relevant nor meaningful, and where the only compass becomes the musical tracks the Does follow. Beneath their coppery hooves, to the crystalline sound of the Fender Rhodes and the sweep of electric layers, the path to take revealed itself in this meditative and abstract realm they had never before explored. Invited to join the purely organic textures, the synthetic notes distilled a few aromas of sweetness into an album of ten tracks, where the FPQ abandoned written scores on some pieces in order to be guided only by the inspiration born of a newfound freedom. Blue when they began their journey five albums ago, their coat has now taken on the colors that illuminate the Pacific coast. That moment when, as you gaze at the horizon swallowing the sun, only glowing shades filter through -- reddish, orange, violet. Departing without haste or frenzy from one of the shores bordering the ocean, the voices of Archie Shepp, Iggy Pop, and DjeuhDjoah still resonating in their antlers, the Does may now be on the opposite shore. Carried all the way to the Japanese coast by Hokusai's wave.

LP version. David Z?'s Mutudi Ua Ufolo/Vi?va da Liberdade is a major milestone in Angolan music, intensely blending semba, rumba, and bolero, recorded at the height of the country's liberation struggle. Both soulful and political, the album resonates far beyond Luanda, carrying a universal spirit akin to that of Bob Marley. Originally released on CDA with Conjunto Merengue, it captures David Z? at his creative peak. Sung in Portuguese and local dialects, it combines rhythmic elegance with deep commitment, weaving links between Afro-Brazilian and Latin American traditions. After his assassination in 1977, the album was banned for several years, before being reborn as an essential work of resistance and beauty. In 2008, his legacy found a new echo when Damian Marley and Nas sampled "Undenge Uami" on Distant Relatives.

HECKER, TIM Ravedeath, 1972 2LP
2026 restock; gatefold 2LP version. "...approaches a form of secular musical transcendentalism from within the battered temple of spirituality. Recorded in a church in Reykjavik, Iceland and using a pipe organ as the primary sound source, this new piece is essentially a live recording. In reality, it exists in a nether world between captured live performance and meticulous studio work, melding the two approaches to sonic artifice as a unity. It is in parts a document of air circulating within a wooden room, and also a pagan work of physical resonance within a space once reserved for the hallowed breath of the divine. While the title of the piece 'Hatred of Music' might be a clue, the album is also partly an attempt to confront a pervasive negativity surrounding music. Historical rituals of destroying pianos, mountains of pirated CDRs pushed by bulldozers in Eastern Europe, or the melancholy of the digital music era began as sideline motifs which quickly informed the work on this record. They also really didn't at all. Despite that the context is wide open in such a form of musical abstraction, the substance of these immersive compositions showcases Hecker's continued mastery of organizing sound into a visceral near entity. It is an almost physical presence that the listener feels as much as hears."

LOSCIL Sea Island 2LP
2026 repress. Double LP version. "Sea Island is a collection of new material composed and recorded over the past two years. While many of these compositions were performed live extensively prior to recording, others were constructed in the studio and are being heard for the first time here. Musically, the album represents a range of compositional approaches. Murky, densely textured depths of sound are explored with subtle pulses and pings woven within, contrasted with composed or improvised moments of acoustic instrumentation making a move into the foreground. Certain tracks on Sea Island such as album opener 'Ahull' make rhythm their focus by exploring subtle polyrhythms and investigating colliding moments of repetition and variation. Though staunchly electronic at its core, instruments such as vibraphone and piano make appearances, and layers of live musicality, improvisation and detail appear in the looped and layered beds of manipulated sound recordings. A varied cast of players appear in the loscil "ensemble", some familiar collaborators from the past such as Jason Zumpano on rhodes and Josh Lindstrom on vibraphone, and others new to the mix such as Fieldhead's Elaine Reynolds who provides layered violin on 'Catalina 1943', and Ashley Pitre contributing vocals on 'Bleeding Ink'. Seattle pianist Kelly Wyse, who collaborated with loscil on his 2013 edition of piano-centric reworks Intervalo, performs on the tracks 'Sea Island Murders' and 'En Masse.'"

CHIBUKU Maxambe LP
Born at the turning point between apartheid and democratic South Africa, the Xitsonga bubblegum-disco duo Chibuku embodies the energy of a time of change, as Nelson Mandela was released from prison and kwaito began to emerge. Although they did not achieve the fame of figures such as Paul Ndlovu or Penny Penny, their only album Maxambe (1992) is now considered a precious time capsule, a raw disco treasure rediscovered by lovers of forgotten music. Behind the project is Dr Joe Shirimani, a guitarist, singer, composer and producer of genius from Tzaneen and Soshanguve, recognized as one of the major architects of South African disco and bubblegum. Long overlooked, Maxambe nevertheless bears witness to an era and a social perspective: migration ("Lekomfere"), debt and economics ("Xikweleti"), and family relationships ("Mhamazala"). The music is festive in appearance, but deeply rooted in the reality of its time. Released on Tusk/Diamond Music, an iconic label of the 1980s and 1990s bought out by Gallo Record Company, Chibuku is now emerging as a diamond rediscovered from the archives of South African disco. Its name, borrowed from a millet beer popular in several southern African countries, sums up the spirit of the group: popular, sincere and deeply rooted in local culture.

AGNEW, RIKK All By Myself LP
Rikk Agnew's All by Myself is one of those records that feels like a secret you're lucky to stumble upon -- a raw, weird, totally personal snapshot of a restless artist at a pivotal moment. Originally released in 1982 on Frontier Records, the album stands apart from most of what was coming out of Southern California at the time, even though it was born right in the middle of the exploding hardcore punk scene. By 1982, Rikk Agnew was already a big deal underground. As the guitarist for Adolescents, he helped shape the sound of Orange County hardcore with sharp riffs, surf-inflected melodies, and a sense of urgency that became hugely influential. He also played in bands like D.I. and later Christian Death, moving fluidly between hardcore punk, post-punk, and darker, more experimental territory. Agnew wasn't just a fast, aggressive guitarist -- he was a songwriter with range, curiosity, and a strong DIY instinct. All by Myself lives up to its title in the most literal way. Agnew recorded the album largely on his own, playing all the instruments and handling vocals himself. Instead of delivering another straight-up hardcore record, he went inward. The result is a lo-fi, home-recorded collection of songs that blend punk energy with new wave, post-punk, psychedelic touches, and even moments of pop sensitivity. It's rough around the edges, but that's exactly the point -- the album feels intimate, unfiltered, and honest. In the early '80s, Southern California punk was loud, fast, and often confrontational. Bands were pushing against the mainstream and even against each other, racing toward more extreme sounds. While All by Myself shares that DIY spirit, it doesn't fully play by hardcore rules. The tempos shift, the moods wander, and the songs feel more like personal experiments than scene anthems. That made the record a bit of an outlier at the time -- but also what gives it lasting appeal. Frontier Records was the perfect home for a release like this. The label was known for supporting artists who didn't quite fit into neat categories, and All by Myself captured that ethos perfectly. Today, All by Myself is often seen as a cult classic. For fans of early punk, post-punk, or anyone interested in the roots of DIY recording culture, this album is essential listening.

ROCH CON LAS VOCES FRESCAS, ERNAN La Onda Pesada LP
Monterrey musician Hernando Rocha managed to record his debut LP in 1970 after spending time living in the United States, where he absorbed the latest waves of psychedelic rock. Reinventing himself as Ernan Roch, La Onda Pesada was finally released a year later, credited to Ernan Roch with Las Voces Frescas. Three elements really stood out on the record: Ernan's strong, expressive vocals; the guitars, ranging from powerful fuzz driven riffs to calm, reflective passages close to the folk sound of Simon & Garfunkel; and the high poetic level of the lyrics. The album included songs written during his year in the U.S.: "Sittin on a Side of the Ocean," "Give Me a Piece (She Doesn't Care)," and "The Train," which opened Side A. The songs reflect the existential angst of a 16-year-old -- Ernan's age when he wrote them. For instance, "The Train," with its powerful guitar intro, might suggest the anticipation of love, but it's actually not about romance at all: it deals with suicide and a dialogue with death, portrayed as a woman dressed in black waiting at the end of the station. The life-and death theme continues in "Sittin on a Side of the Ocean," which speaks of a loveless world filled with hate, erupting into a striking riff by guitarist Miguel C?rdenas. These tracks were joined on Side A by "I Found All," "I Can't," and "Round Round." Side B featured "Gonna Make I," "A Life of Love," "Cause of Love," "All Right/It's Gonna Take Me Time," and "Give Me a Peace," for a total of ten songs. The quality of the material is even more impressive when you realize Rocha was only 17 years old when he recorded it. When the album came out, with its bluesy, psychedelic sound and Hendrix-inspired guitar work, it seemed destined for commercial success -- but several factors stood in the way. One was the growing censorship of Mexican rock after Av?ndaro; another was the new government's view of rock as "cultural imperialism." The record went largely unnoticed throughout the '70s and '80s, but with the rise of online marketplaces in the early 2000s, it was rediscovered by international collectors, who hailed it as a hidden gem and praised its production. Munster now reissues it with liner notes and newly remastered sound.

Highly energetic and possessed of a certain level of danceability, Haus Der L?ge was perhaps the most accessible for the band so far in terms of straightforward industrial-rock, with less grinding experimentation. However, this album is far from any sort of mainstream convention, with some of the most convincing alchemy of the best of the group's sonic clang, combined with some of the most captivating singing by Blixa Bargeld yet. NOCELLA, LARRY Everything Happens To Me CD
"The session was organized in Bologna by Red Records, who took advantage of the Mingus Dynasty's Italian tour to ensure the saxophonist a rhythm section of great experience and undisputed stature. With Bob Neloms on piano, Cameron Brown on double bass and Dannie Richmond on drums, Larry Nocella immediately established an understanding and always showed himself available to receive the stimuli he received from his colleagues. This is the case of Everything Happens To Me, which opens the second side of the LP, in which after the exposition of the theme by the saxophone, elegant and full of small variations and broken or 'stolen' notes, Neloms proposes a key reading in some way alternative to the mainstream one proposed by Nocella. The album opens with 'Rose,' a funky piece that amazed the writer of the original liner notes, perhaps unaware of the album Nocella had made in 1977 in which the musician immersed himself almost completely in funky. 'Central Park West' first appeared in 1964's 'Coltrane Sound,' an album that had been recorded during the 'My Favorite Things' sessions. Nocella's version is very respectful of the original and maintains its mournful nocturnal atmosphere. The overall interpretation of the ballad is absolutely masterful. It is Neloms who continues Nocella's discourse. The pianist does not miss the opportunity to give his intervention a touch of originality by creating rhythmic figures that animate the piece without distorting it. 'Along Came Betty' was composed by Benny Golson in 1958 and is inspired by the girl the author was dating at the time. Nocella and Neloms are the absolute protagonists of the piece and with their solos they show their inexhaustible creativity and originality in the choice of solutions. The next 'Nakatini Serenade,' otherwise known as the 'Nakatini Suite,' is a composition by Cal Massey. 'The Days of Wine and Roses,' which closes the album, belonged to the soundtrack of the homonymous movie from 1962."

VASCONCELOS, MARA & NANA Ntsano CD
"In 1983, in Canada, Vasconcelos came into contact with a group of young musicians from Qu?bec City, who combined their association with the avant-garde with a visceral love for Africa and the suggestions of the Far East. Denis H?bert, the leader of the group, was a pianist and organist who frequented jazz but who had also been exposed to the influence of the American minimalist current. The saxophonist, flautist and bass clarinetist Maurice Bouchard, who would become Qu?bec's most famous jazz musician, enriched his jazz with hypnotic elements drawn from African music and Eastern spirituality. Pierre Tanguay, for his part, had an eclectic personality and his interests ranged from avant-garde to ancient music up to stage music for theater and ballet. In 1983, the four musicians, under the guidance of H?bert, gave life to the 'Mara' project and took advantage of Nan? Vasconcelos' availability to take part in it. The entire album encompasses the musicians' various experiences and is pervaded by an ancestral sense of spirituality and mystery, immersed in an ocean of rhythm with one shore in Brazil and the other in Africa. As often happens in projects based on improvisation, 'Mara' was a unique and unrepeatable episode born from the positive interaction of five musicians who, before resuming their respective paths, left us a tangible sign of their creative streak."

MORE EAZE sentence structure in the country CD
"more eaze is the moniker of Brooklyn-based composer, orchestrator, and multi-instrumentalist, mari maurice. A renowned collaborator both in performance and on recordings, maurice's own work is a fantasia, a reflection of her curious and explorative musical mind, encompassing entire spectrums of sound from a wide sonic pallet of electro-acoustic textures, folk traditions, and pop forms that pirouette into fully realized ecosystems. sentence structure in the country is a definitive statement of the matchless quality of more eaze's skill as player and musical thinker. The album relishes the ecstatic in performance and collaboration with an inviting wit and incisive compositions, imbuing tenderness, frustration, and joy into each passage. The title is an acknowledgement of the vernacular that shaped maurice's musical production. As Coltrane said, 'It all has to do with it.' maurice grew up playing fiddle in traditional folk and country tunes, and while playing on her album is entirely different, her reverence for the evolution of folk forms and her playing remain integral to those performances. Informing her production choices were maurice's well- chosen collaborators: Wendy Eisenberg on electric guitar, piano and voice, Henry Earnest on electric guitar, Alice Gerlach on cello, Jade Guterman on acoustic guitar, and Ryan Sawyer on drums. maurice explains how her collaborators helped sculpt the album's sound: 'There are ways Jade or Wendy choose to voice chords that are not how I'd play them in this context, but that's kind of the point. Their voices redefine what I'm making but also help me define my own.' sentence structure in the country is a collection of compositions, each beautifully realized, self-contained worlds. maurice's dexterous, tasteful arranging lays bare her influences and obsessive fascinations with remarkable congruency while foregoing any sense of indulgence. Her music holds a density not only in the lush compositions and embellishing flourishes, but also for those moments of spare, minimalist beauty. sentence structure in the country is a textural marvel, a mosaic of ethereal electronics and loamy acoustics sculpted around deeply moving, enduring songs."

LP version.

COLLEEN Libres Antes del Final CD
"The compositions of Colleen, aka multi-instrumentalist Ce?cile Schott, are as richly varied as they are precise. Each of Colleen's albums are shaped by her predetermined distinct instrumentation and parameters, including works composed entirely of music boxes, pocket synthesizers, and antiquated stringed instruments. The connective essence of Schott's music is in her ability to create pieces within this transcendent specificity that are both expansive and imbued with profound emotions. Libres antes del final is an album that reaches for the hope and desire to be truly freed from unnecessary suffering and harmful thoughts before reaching the end of one's life cycle. Schott composed and performed Libres on the Moog Matriarch, centering the record on a pulse-driven, bubbling energy with constant momentum. She then reamped the music in one of her favorite spaces in Barcelona, Casa Montjuic, accentuating the album's sense of movement. The reamping process adds a literal physicality to the album, as carefully chosen and placed microphones (including the famous Neumann KU100 binaural head) capture both the venue's PA sound itself and the venue's acoustics. Colleen's music translates snapshots of Schott's life into singular pieces, often instrumentally transmuting a dense web of sensations into wondrous sonic terrain. Schott's deft manipulation of the Moog Matriarch makes each subtle adjustment feel monumental. The tender 'Mis armas se habi?an cai?do al suelo' skitters sonar-like echoes across a warm pool of organ chords before giving in to a gentle wash of oceanic feedback. The bounce of 'Puertas de mi cuerpo' is transformed by every textural shift where the steady arpeggio of 'Anti?doto' is broken apart by dizzying shifts in pulse. 'Aguas abiertas' (or, 'Open Waters') stands as the cinematic centerpiece to the album as each movement dives deeper beneath the surface and reflects the magic of discovering microcosms on every level one plunges further down. Title track 'Libres antes del final' harnesses the album's sense of urgency as the intensity swells and undulates into a climactic conclusion unlike any piece Schott has made before."

CRISPELL/JASON STEIN/DAMON SMITH /ADAM SHEAD, MARILYN Live at the Hungry Brain LP
A cross-generational summit between the legendary pianist Marilyn Crispell (member of the Anthony Braxton Quartet and Reggie Workman Ensemble) and Midwest improvising trio of bass clarinetist Jason Stein, bassist Damon Smith, and drummer Adam Shead delivers all the range and expressivity one would expect from such seasoned players. The concert captured on Live at the Hungry Brain moves organically from searing free jazz to contemplative, lyrical balladry, all of conceived in the urgency of the moment and revealing a long-ranging, intricate approach to free improvisation. By its very nature any time a working ensemble, even one fully devoted to improvised music, is joined by another musician its modus operandi can't help by change. While no performance the trio of Chicago bass clarinetist, drummer Adam Shead, and St. Louis bassist Damon Smith has ever been quite the same, since forming in 2021 the trio had forged a tight bond and developed a highly effective approach informed by fundamental elements of jazz tradition and a fiery desire to create anew with every gathering. On the other hand, the art of improvisation has always thrived upon new input, novel challenges, and changing circumstances. This performance is a sterling multi-generational project that uses instant communication to bridge experiences. Crispell has always worked with a wide array of collaborators, regularly embracing partnerships with musicians decades younger than her. Like Crispell, the members of the trio have their unique influences and sweet spots, but the act of spontaneous creation bridges any such differences. In June of 2023 the musicians gathered for a studio session along with performances in Madison, Wisconsin, and subsequently, in Chicago, where the group recorded Live at the Hungry Brain. While spiraling horn, the studio session releases in 2024 leaned toward shorter excursions built around a small array of gambits and ideas, the remarkable live performances captured two long-form pieces where the ensemble had the space and time to spread out and dig in. The interactions spin in multiple directions, leading the trio to occasionally veer a bit closer to the deeply lyric post-Coltrane wanderlust Crispell thrives within, unspooling gorgeously dynamic streams of tender melody. The music is given fierce propulsion, with Smith and Shead generating churning, kinetic energy. In some ways it's Stein that binds everything together, his endlessly fluid playing retaining an equanimity through serenity and chaos.

NABELOSE Haar CD
Since forming their duo Nabel?se back in 2016 Ingrid Schmoliner and Elena Kakaliagou have consistently defied expectations, forging mercurial blend of meditative lyricism, spellbinding rhythm, and poetic wanderlust. The project illustrates the foolishness of making assumptions about what creative musicians are all about, with both artists nonchalantly going against type. They're both known primarily as instrumentalists -- Schmoliner is an Austrian pianist who blends fierce minimalism and a wildly extended palette of prepared piano and elaborate miking arrays to forge music of driving intensity that harnesses the full spectrum of her instrument and its attendant overtones to produce works of ecstatic beauty and mind-melting motion. She's a committed collaborator, too, whether improvising with drummer Hamid Drake or working in the collective GRIFF. The Berlin-based Greek horn player Kakaliagou is a dynamic improviser noted for her deep explorations of just intonation as a member of the trio Zinc & Copper with Robin Hayward and Hilary Jeffery. Both musicians incorporate their primary instruments in Nabel?se, but the overall sound world feels miles away from those practices. Trost now presents the project's stunning third album HAAR, straddling the divide between fiercely hypnotic rhythms and ethereal textures. While voice has always been a part of Nabel?se's arsenal, it's never been so prominently featured. While the arrangements are wide open, all five pieces convey a song-like orientation. Unpitched horn breaths and solemn piano chords cast a calm but charged atmosphere on "Perfume," yet once Kakaliagou begins her astonishingly tender vocal performance the listener is taken on yet another detour -- an extended ballad of almost crushing beauty and fragility. Schmoliner and Kakaliagou both recite poetic texts in German and Greek, respectively, in "Hinter Meinen D?nen," which unfold over a delicate drone that rises and falls like a hill beneath the voices. But that reverie is shattered by the insistent, hammering piano part played using a traditional Greek folk music rhythm and vocalic horn gestures on the reserved yet fierce "Blue Mountains." Kakaliagou delivers the Greek lyrics by speaking through her horn for a compelling metallic quality. The album concludes with the stunning invocation of "Toke," which features a powerful cameo from the Berlin-based percussionist Els Vanderwyer adding extra resonance to the sustained tones, tiny but piercing percussive gestures and heavenly singing, including Schmoliner's stunning overtone singing in an imaginary language of her own design.

AMADO'S THE BRIDGE, RODRIGO Further Beyond CD
The fiery Portuguese tenor saxophonist Rodrigo Amado returns with the sophomore album from his multigenerational quartet the Bridge, spanning modern jazz history with a deeply experienced line-up: German free jazz pioneer Alexander von Schlippenbach on piano, veteran Swiss-based American Gerry Hemingway on drums, and the explosive Norwegian Ingebrigt H?ker Flaten on bass. Amado's Bridge is the span linking the spirit of improvisation Rollins applied to composed music and modern free improvisation. For Portuguese tenor saxophonist Rodrigo Amado past and future have always been connected, bound in tradition while breaking free of it. The muscular reedist values collaboration deeply, working with countless musicians from his homeland, while simultaneously forming an ever-expanding constellation of international ensembles, including the powerful cross-generational quartet with veteran multi-instrumentalist Joe McPhee, Chicago double bassist Kent Kessler, and the explosive drummer Chris Corsano -- which has released several instant classics on Trost. A few years ago, Amado formed the Bridge, another quartet featuring a stellar cast of musicians from different regions and different eras. The saxophonist's deep regard for jazz history led him to assemble a group for the ages. There's the legendary German pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach -- a still dominant figure who's been a revolutionary figure in improvised music and avant-garde composition since the early 1960s. American drummer Gerry Hemingway, who made his name as a member of Anthony Braxton's great quartet from the 1980s, has consistently reinforced his stature of one of the most restless, multivalent figures in experimental music from his adopted base in Lucerne, Switzerland. Double bassist Ingebrigt H?ker Flaten rounds out the group -- a Norwegian virtuoso who's worked in the Thing with Mats Gustafsson and Paal Nilssen-Love, and more recently who's demonstrated his evolving strength as a composer with his group (Exit) Knarr. In 2023 Trost released the Bridge's galvanic debut Beyond the Margins, reflecting the tight connection the members developed on its first run of concerts in the fall of 2022, but the group's follow-up Further Beyond takes the music to another level. Across three full-bodied pieces the quartet summons a great deal of jazz history on its way to advancing the tradition.

HELIOS Eingya LP
2026 restock; vinyl reissue of Helios's breakthrough album, Eingya, originally released in 2006. Eingya by Helios, aka Keith Kenniff, returns in a new 2021 edition vinyl re-release, remastered by Taylor Deupree. Beginning the album on a high with the pastoral beauty of "Bless This Morning Year", Kenniff showcases of what he does best: heartbreaking guitar and piano melodies punctuated by crumbling beats and backed by the most atmospheric synthesizer sounds this side of Eno's Apollo. The appetizing "Halving The Compass" blends subtle field recording with the kind of piano melodies so beautiful they could be compared to Virginia Astley or Harold Budd. This is followed by the album's clear highlight, "Dragonfly Across An Ancient Sky". It's an unsurpassable folk guitar piece with a decomposing percussive background and the sort of melodies that would turn evil tyrants into weeping babies. An album that could appeal as easily to fans of Nick Drake as to fans of Boards of Canada or even early Air, this truly has something for everyone. Raised in rural Pennsylvania, Kenniff put out Helios's 2004 debut album, Unomia (UNSEENRE 001LP), while studying percussion at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Since then, he's released six more albums as Helios, in addition to collaborating with his wife Hollie Kenniff in the shoegaze-inspired pop duo Mint Julep and composing music for films and archival use. "A protracted sunset of an album guaranteed to see you through the longest days of summer and into the twilight of the autumn." --The Wire "A soundtrack of molasses-sweet, midsummer sunset melancholy and pastoral mellifluence." --Tinymixtapes. MAIA, TIM Tim Maia (1973) LP
Tim Maia's self-titled 1973 album is one of those records that hits you from the very first groove and doesn't let go. Originally released on Polydor Brazil, this was the fourth in a series of Tim's self-titled albums -- and many fans and critics still consider it the crown jewel. Packed with irresistible hooks, lush arrangements, and that unmistakable Tim Maia swagger, the album captures the singer at the peak of his creative powers. If you're new to Tim Maia, here's the quick story: born in Rio de Janeiro, Tim was a larger-than-life icon whose music married American soul and funk with Brazilian samba and pop long before "fusion" was a buzzword. A true musical polymath, he absorbed everything from Curtis Mayfield to Motown and translated it into a sound entirely his own -- gritty, passionate, and full of groove. He didn't just introduce soul to Brazil; he made it Brazilian. On this 1973 release, Tim pushes everything up a notch. The arrangements are bigger, slicker, and surprisingly majestic, without losing the raw spirit that earned him a devoted following. From the moment "R?u Confesso" opens the album, you know you're in for something special -- smooth, funky, and heartfelt in all the right ways. The bittersweet "Gostava Tanto de Voc?" remains one of his most beloved classics, while "O Balan?o" bursts with Brazilian flavor that practically dares you not to move. And with tracks like "Do Your Thing, Behave Yourself" and "Over Again," Tim shows just how naturally the soul idiom fit him, even when he switched to English. This record has everything: deep grooves, soaring strings, magnetic vocals, and that unmistakable sense of joy that Tim Maia carried into every session. It's a front-to-back winner -- one of those albums that deserves a spot not just in Brazilian music history, but in any collection that celebrates great soul, funk, and timeless grooves. If you're a longtime fan, it's a reminder of why Tim Maia is legendary. If you're discovering him for the first time, this is the perfect place to start. Either way: press play, turn it up, and let Tim do his thing. Reissue on 180g vinyl.

ROBERTO Y SU NUEVO MONTUNO El Nuevo Montuno Llego LP
Roberto y su Nuevo Montuno recorded their first album, El Nuevo Montuno Lleg? (1970), when Roberto Berr?os was just 22 years old. This was also the debut release on Haddock's own Uniart label. Berr?os remembers that they did the recording in two sessions, splitting it up into four tracks per visit. The engineer was the famed Pedro "Pedrito" Henr?quez, who recorded El Gran Combo, Roberto Roena and many others. The band had a mix of tasty, powerful originals, from Tony Cintr?n's title track that announced the band had arrived, "El Nuevo Montuno Lleg?," to Quique D?vila's mournful "Triste Arrabal." Then there was the hit Santer?a themed tune, "Llam? a Chang?," which was a song that Quique D?vila brought to the band, but had been originally composed by Carlos Pinto, though Quique was given the credit. D?vila also composed "Me Queda Un Guaguanc?," which is Roberto's favorite song on the record (as well as a fan favorite), with Papo sounding like his friend H?ctor Lavoe, and Quique D?vila's proud manifesto declaring that Puerto Rico now had its own son montuno, "Oye Tu Son, Borinquen," featuring the pianist's tasty but brief solo. The cover versions came from the group's earliest period when most of their repertoire consisted of renditions of beloved but lesser known tunes, and include Louie Ram?rez's "Balanc?ate" (a favorite of Roberto's from Ray Barretto's songbook), Bobby Valent?n's "Monina y Ram?n" (recorded during his stint with Willie Rosario), and a bolero indelibly sung by Cheo Feliciano when he was with the Joe Cuba Sextet, "Dichoso," written by Joe Cuba's talented pianist, Nick Jim?nez. Some of the arranging was done by Cintr?n and some by D?vila, though Quique had some help from his old friend from El Combo Moderno, Freddie Miranda, who at that time was with Roberto Roena's Apollo Sound. Roberto says that the arrangements of the cover tunes were made specifically to be different and more contemporary sounding than the originals. El Nuevo Montuno Lleg? has become a legendary salsa dura classic from Puerto Rico and Vampisoul are thrilled to present this first legitimately licensed and remastered vinyl reissue. It includes detailed liner notes that reveal the untold story of the band and their debut album, and rare photos.

QUINTEPLUS Quinteplus LP
Quinteplus was born in Buenos Aires at the end of the 1960s, emerging directly from the ideas and experiments of the legendary Agrupaci?n Nuevo Jazz. Founded in the early '60s, this collective brought together some of the most forward-thinking figures in Argentine jazz functioned as a creative lab where musicians questioned where jazz could go next. Among the key ideas discussed was the fusion of jazz with Argentine folk styles such as zamba, chacarera, malambo, cueca, and candombe, as well as a deeper look into African rhythms as a bridge between musical worlds. Two members of that collective, keyboardist Santiago Giacobbe and bassist Jorge "Negro" Gonz?lez, carried those ideas forward when they formed Quinteplus in 1969. The group came together naturally: all the musicians already knew each other and had played in different projects around the Buenos Aires scene. They shared a strong admiration for Julian "Cannonball" Adderley's quintet, along with a clear goal -- to develop a modern jazz language grounded in local Argentine rhythms. From the start, Quinteplus stood out for its openness and adventurous spirit. Rhythm was central, and so was experimentation. The band belonged to a generation of Argentine jazz musicians eager to explore electric instruments and new textures, anticipating what would soon be known as jazz-rock. This was happening in Buenos Aires at the very same time Miles Davis was opening new doors with In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. In 1971, Quinteplus recorded its first and only studio album for EMI. The original lineup featured Jorge Anders on tenor saxophone, Gustavo Bergalli on trumpet, Giacobbe on keyboards, Gonz?lez on upright and electric bass, and Norberto "Pocho" Lapouble on drums and percussion -- who also illustrated the album's iconic sleeve. The record is a refined showcase of the band's musical vision: original compositions, fluent jazz language, folk-derived rhythms, funky electric textures, tight ensemble playing, and standout brass solos. Though critically praised, the album received little label support and sold modestly, eventually becoming a sought-after collector's item. Quinteplus disbanded in 1973, their music was perhaps too bold and unconventional for its time. This first-time reissue brings back a vital chapter of Argentine jazz history, revealing a band that was truly ahead of the curve and still resonates powerfully today.

OS MUTANTES Mutantes LP
2026 repress. Vinyl Lovers present a reissue of Os Mutantes' Mutantes, originally released in 1969. One album into their career in 1969, Mutantes showed few signs of musical burnout after turning in one of the oddest LPs released in the '60s. Similar to its predecessor, Mutantes relies on an atmosphere of experimentation and continual musical collisions, walking a fine line between innovation and pointless genre exercises. The lead track ("Dom Quixote") has the same focus on stylistic cut-and-paste as their debut LP's first track ("Panis et Circenses"). Among the band's musical contemporaries, Mutantes sounds similar only to songs like the Who's miniature suite "A Quick One While He's Away" -- though done in three minutes instead of nine, and much more confusing given the language barrier. The album highlights ("Nao Va Se Perder Por Ai") and ("Dois Mil E Um") come with what sounds like a typically twisted take on roots music (both Brazilian and American), complete with banjo, accordion, and twangy vocals. Though there are several other enjoyable tracks, including "Magica" and a slap-happy stomp called "Rita Lee," there's a palpable sense that the experimentation here isn't serving much more than its own ends. If the first album's relentless eclecticism did in fact occasionally result in dry passages, it's especially true here. Bottle green vinyl.

OBAD Suspended LP
Limited edition, heavy 350gsm sleeve with obi. We Release Jazz presents the limited vinyl edition of Obad's powerful new album Suspended, a vivid document of the Tehran ensemble's endlessly evolving sonic universe -- now available as a limited LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve with an obi strip and featuring original artwork by Iranian painter Sadra Baniasadi. Suspended is a superbly spontaneous, improvisational blend of exploratory jazz fusion, progressive funk-rock, and transcendental groove. Built from lived experience and shaped by Tehran's pulse, Obad's music is kinetic and intuitive -- an ever-morphing dialogue between rhythm and texture, emotion and message. With Farid Farzian Pour on drums, Siavash Karimi on electric guitar, Kiarash Radmehr on bass guitar, and Hamidreza Keshavrpajuh (aka Pajuh) on tenor saxophone, Obad creates a soundworld where hypnotic basslines meet thunderous, free-flowing percussion; where searing guitar motifs coil around saxophone phrases that move from whispered invocation to explosive catharsis. Suspended captures the quartet at full creative stretch: alive, unguarded, and deeply attuned to one another. Sadra Baniasadi's striking cover painting mirrors the album's energy -- bold, dreamlike, charged with movement, and extending Obad's world into the visual realm. Suspended stands as a major statement from one of Iran's most compelling contemporary ensembles, marking Obad's first release on We Release Jazz and continuing the label's commitment to boundary-pushing music born from profound listening, place, and collective intuition.

2026 limited restock. Literally: in the garden of their Japanese house, they planted seeds and filmed the plant growing and thriving throughout the duration of the exhibition. Visitors were able to watch the stream in real time -- and they heard a composition in which Ishibashi and O'Rourke reflected the organic process in sound. The eponymous composition now available on LP, is an enigmatic and sophisticated layering of sounds, melodies and rhythms, noises from everyday life, all of which are repositories of associations, memories and expectations.

TSUCHITORI/RYUICHI SAKAMOTO, TOSHIYUKI Disappointment-Hateruma CD
Wewantsounds presents the first vinyl reissue of Disappointment-Hateruma, the 1976 ALM Records release by percussionist Toshi Tsuchitori and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The album is notable as Sakamoto's first recording issued under his own name and represents one of the few occasions he explored fully improvised music during the 1970s. It provides a vital document for understanding Sakamoto's early development as a composer and performer, capturing a period when he was experimenting with ambient soundscapes and textured improvisation. This edition features original artwork, audio remastered by Heba Kadry and new liner notes by Andy Beta. Ryuichi Sakamoto is widely recognized as one of the most important artists of his generation. At the time of Disappointment-Hateruma, he was still a student at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and active in Shinjuku's experimental music circles. He was busy contributing to Transonic Magazine, performing with the multimedia group Gakushudan, and working with musicians pushing the boundaries of jazz, free improvisation, and contemporary composition. On his side, revered Japanese percussionist Toshi Tsuchitori, who had recently returned from New York, brought influences from Milford Graves' approach to drumming, including African rhythms, ritualized performance, and a holistic approach that combined music, movement, and philosophy. Sakamoto and Tsuchitori had previously played together in Gakushudan, but neither considered those early encounters definitive. This recording captures one of the rare moments when Sakamoto's exploratory piano work met Tsuchitori's distinct rhythmic language in a studio setting. The album, originally released in 1976 on producer Yukio Kojima's highly influential ALM Records imprint, is structured across four tracks, with the first, "? (Aya)," filling the entirety of Side 1 on the LP, while Side 2 contains three shorter pieces, each exploring different combinations of instruments and sound sources. The recordings employ a wide array of textures, from prepared piano, bells, marimba, and gongs to EMS synthesizer and voice. Together, the tracks create hypnotic, ethereal soundscapes and rich sonic textures that highlight the interplay between Sakamoto's experimental piano work and Tsuchitori's percussive expertise. Remastered by renowned sound engineer Heba Kadry, this new edition highlights the detail, range, and clarity of the original album, making the ultra-rare Disappointment-Hateruma available worldwide for the first time. It stands as a key early document of Sakamoto's work and situates the recordings within the broader context of his formative years and Tokyo's mid-1970s cutting-edge music scene.

SAI, YOSHIKO Mikkou CD
Wewantsounds continues its Yoshiko Sai reissue program with the release of Mikkou, the Japanese singer-songwriter's second album released in 1976 on Black Records. The album, produced by ace arranger Isamu Haruna, keeps the same formula as Mangekyou (WWSCD 096CD/ WWSLP 096LP, 2025) with Yoshiko Sai's beautiful songs and dreamy vocals over cool funky arrangements, this time featuring legendary guitarist Masayoshi Takanaka. This is the first time Mikkou is widely available outside of Japan, with remastered audio, original artwork and a four-page insert including new liner notes by Hashim Kotaro Bharoocha who interviewed Yoshiko Sai for this special occasion. Yoshiko Sai holds a singular place in Japanese music history. Since her 1975 debut Mangekyou, the Japanese singer-songwriter has captivated listeners with her ethereal voice, poetic lyrics, and enigmatic presence, earning a devoted cult following that endures decades later. Mikkou represents a bold broadening of her artistic palette, drawing inspiration from the Silk Road and the rich cultural heritage of her native Nara. Sai's compositions on Mikkou explore themes of femininity, freedom, and the passage of generations. Tracks such as "Kaasama no Uta" ("Mother's Song") and "Tenshi no Youni" ("Like an Angel") blend blues, jazz, and folk sensibilities with evocative instrumentation including tabla, sitar, and dulcimer, reflecting the album's Silk Road influences. The title track, "Mikkou" ("Secret Passage"), captures the sense of a hidden journey -- both literal and imaginative -- mirroring the adventurous spirit threaded throughout the record. Sai also created the album's artwork, inspired by her reflections on historical Persian travelers and the interconnected flow of cultures along the Silk Road. As Sai remarked in conversation with Hashim Kotaro Bharoocha about the title track, "That idea of sneaking off somewhere felt exactly right for the mood at the time -- it was like approaching everything in life as if you were stowing away along every path." This Wewantsounds release marks the first time Mikkou is available outside Japan, offering a rare glimpse into the fragile, dreamlike universe of Yoshiko Sai.

GYSIN, BRION Dreamachine LP
Wewantsounds presents for the first time on vinyl Brion Gysin's cult recordings, produced by Ramuntcho Matta in the '80s and early '90s. The release features the hypnotic 32-minute journey "Dreamachine," which transforms the effects of Gysin's legendary light art device into a mesmerizing audio experience, alongside the track "The Door," featuring the visionary saxophonist Steve Lacy. A towering figure in avant-garde art, literature, and sound, Gysin influenced generations of creators, from William Burroughs to David Bowie and Laurie Anderson. The recordings on Dreamachine reflect Brion Gysin's fascination with altered perception. Matta had returned to Paris after a late-1970s stay in New York following the death of his brother, Gordon Matta-Clark, and had already produced Gysin's album Junk and the single "Kick" featuring Don Cherry. At the center is the title track "Dreamachine" a hypnotic 32-minute piece built on minimalist repetition, echoing the stroboscopic effects of Gysin's iconic light sculpture. Slowly evolving grooves create a trance-like state, drawing on Afrobeat in the lineage of Fela Kuti and the laid-back, cyclical guitar patterns of King Sunny Ad?'s juju music. Conceived as a sonic extension of the eponymous visual device, invented by Gysin with Ian Sommerville, Dreamachine reshapes the listener's sense of time and perception. The record also includes "The Door," a striking collaboration featuring the legendary saxophonist Steve Lacy, adding further depth to the avant-garde jazz elements of Gysin's world. This vinyl features remastered audio and an insert with a striking photo of Gysin and Burroughs in front of the Dreamachine, shot by French photographer Fran?ois Lagarde, alongside liner notes by Jason Weiss situating the recordings in historical and artistic context.

TSUCHITORI/RYUICHI SAKAMOTO, TOSHIYUKI Disappointment-Hateruma LP
LP version. MASON, LEE Music By Lee Mason (1971) LP
Wewantsounds reissues Music By Lee Mason, the cult classic from the Chappell Recorded Music Library, originally released in the UK in 1971. Credited to Lee Mason & His Orchestra, the album is in fact the work of renowned British composer and arranger Pete Moore -- best known for producing the iconic "Asteroid" theme in 1968 for the Pearl & Dean cinema advertising company. One of the funkiest library albums of its era, blending cinematic tension, funky grooves, and jazzy undertones, Music By Lee Mason features the track "Shady Blues," famously sampled by Madlib. Newly remastered and featuring liner notes by Kevin Le Gendre, this long-overdue reissue brings a lost classic back to vinyl for the first time since 1971. Recorded at the dawn of the prolific '70s UK library music boom, Music By Lee Mason was part of the successful Chappell Recorded Music series -- produced for television, film, and advertising professionals. Working under the "Lee Mason" alias, Pete Moore used the format to explore a wide palette of sounds: funky rhythm sections, fat horns, bumping bass lines, and catchy melodies that reveal both sophistication and swing. Across its eleven tracks, the album moves seamlessly between funky grooves, jazzy arrangements, and cinematic moods. "Shady Blues" in particular has become a cult favorite among crate-diggers, its slow-burning groove later sampled by Madlib for the Lootpack track "Answers" featuring Quasimoto, giving the piece new life in the spheres of hip-hop and digging culture. A prolific composer and orchestrator for television, radio, and film, Pete Moore (1924-2013) worked with the likes of Peggy Lee, Fred Astaire, and Connie Francis, bridging the worlds of orchestral scoring and modern jazz-pop arrangement. Alongside his celebrated commercial work, his contributions to the Chappell Music catalogue exemplify the depth and craft of British library composition during the 1960s and '70s. This reissue of Music By Lee Mason has been newly remastered and features exclusive liner notes by Kevin Le Gendre, who provides fresh insight into Moore's enduring influence of his music. With its sophisticated arrangements, catchy grooves, and unmistakable sense of mood, Music By Lee Mason stands as one of the defining statements of the British library era which Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue for the first time since 1971.
