DICKS, THE Hate The Police 7"
2012 reissue; Originally released in 1980. " Limited Split Yellow/Red vinyl pressing. This summer marks 40 years since the release of what we feel is one the most important singles in American punk history. Fronted by an aggressive, openly gay, unrepentant communist, The Dicks were an elemental force in the early 80's Texas punk scene. Their influence on countless musicians, artists and activists worldwide four decades later can be felt today. Sadly, instead of being an interesting artifact from a troubled time long since past, Hate The Police is still depressingly relevant. 1-2-3-4 Go! has taken great pains to faithfully reissue this legendary single. Re-mastered at Fantasy by George Horn in 2012 this is the best sounding version and only legitimate reissue since the original. The cover has been fully restored to its three color glory and comes with the lyric insert. All living band members have given their approval and are compensated before we press a single copy. Proceeds from this pressing will be donated to Black Lives Matter and Homeless Youth Alliance San Francisco."

CARLTON MELTON Where This Leads CD
"Dome Rock. Nestled deep in the forests of Mendocino County in Northern California, huddled under the protective shade of towering redwoods and within earshot of frothy waves crashing against the Pacific coastline, squats a geodesic dome that has served as crucible for the experimental genius of Carlton Melton. Nature and Man operate under different logics. But here, Carlton Melton wholly entrusts this idyllic environment with the task of inspiring and guiding their musical improvisations. "The Dome has been the ideal setting to facilitate their creativity. Without forcing a specific dynamic or theme, the band inhabits its womb-like confines to improvise, explore, dream. Their music draws on psychedelia, stoner metal, krautrock, and ambient atmospherics to convey, above all else, a mood. "A prickly guitar melody will float lazily, a wall of dissonant feedback will resolve into a hypnotic drone, or a colossal riff will exhume the soul of Jimi Hendrix. One hears Hawkwind or Spacemen 3 jamming with Pink Floyd at Pompeii. "Andy Duvall (drums, guitar), Clint Golden (bass), and Rich Millman (guitar, synths) have yet to play Pompeii, but they have already wowed crowds at European festivals such as the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia, Roadburn, and Desertfest Antwerp. Live, they are jaw-dropping. On record, mind-altering... With Where This Leads, the band rewires the listener's mind." --Eric Bensel, Paris July 2020

STOLTZ, KELLEY Ah! (etc) CD
"'I was guzzling wine at my favorite bar in San Francisco, the Rite Spot, and the entertainment that night was some local opera singers singing along with a big video screen showing a collage of various operatic moments with subtitles. One particular subtitle, 'Ah! (etc)' made me laugh, I thought it was a perfect description of life -- the joy of existence against the etcetera of it all, the struggle. With a heavy head of rosé it seemed like ecstatic poetry! I scribbled it on a napkin and thought it might make a good title for something" And so the mystery behind the title of Kelley Stoltz's new record is solved. Less of a mystery is the quality contained therein: after twelve releases and a several more under pseudonyms, Stoltz is the word for "one-man-band-home-recording-pop-songs of idiosyncratic character.' A quick follow up to his more power pop and pub rock LP only Hard Feelings offering in the summer, Ah! (etc) finds Stoltz returning to his sweet spot, writing songs that never were, but should have been in the '60s and '80s. As with other releases, Stoltz makes virtually every noise on the album which was written and recorded in 2019 at his Electric Duck Studio in San Francisco. A few friends popped in to play along: Stoltz former bandmate, Echo & the Bunnymen's Will Sergeant adds electric guitar to 'The Quiet Ones' a sort of Scott Walker lyrical take on strangers and neighbors. Karina Denike formerly of Dance Hall Crashers adds gorgeous vocals on the bossanova groover 'Moon Shy', where Sergeant pops up again in a spoken word role on the outro. Allyson Baker of SF's Dirty Ghosts sings on 'She Likes Noise', a song Stoltz wrote for her in celebration of her love of seeing live bands."

HULSENBECK & MICHAEL SCHONHEIT, P.A. Reaping From The Conflux CD
Philipp Hu?lsenbeck and Michael Scho?nheit entered their collaborative space, the Great Hall of Gewandhaus Leipzig, in spring 2019, in order to explore the sonic potential of the Schuke organ juxtaposed with unrestrained electronic synthesis and otherworldly digital processing. With ease, clarity and fruitful respect towards the others craft, they composed Reaping From The Conflux, an hour-long work of music, condensed in a synergy of opposing musical aesthetics, teetering between acoustic instrumentation and digital manipulation -- a push-and-pull between discordance and tranquility. Intermingling the organic with the inorganic in an unbiased exchange, Hu?lsenbeck and Scho?nheit created a dense work shifting from somber to celestial, leaving enough space in the room to allow sound to breathe. In order to interweave digital and material realms, Hu?lsenbeck's software synthesizers blasting into the concert hall were given the same attention as the 6.845 pipes making up the gigantic organ, an instrument often referred to as the queen of instruments. The sharp, synth-driven Peak Independence is counterpointed by the serenity that inhabits the repeating Basso Ostinato in Entities as well as Hu?lsenbeck's piano playing on Now Smile. The latter two pieces feature contributions by Scho?nheit's wife Katharina Dargel (Gewandhausorchester Leipzig) on viola, Tsepo Kolitsoe Pooe (The Miagi Orchestra, The String Archestra) on cello, and Johannes Weber (Unguarded, Jungsto?tter) on double bass. After his studies in conducting, piano and organ, Michael Scho?nheit started his first organist position in 1985, just one year before being appointed Gewandhausorganist in Leipzig in 1986. In this position he assumes artistic responsibility for the Gewandhaus organ concerts and thematic cycles, as well as collaborating with members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Michael Scho?nheit has been Artistic Director of the Merseburg Organ Festival since 1994, assuming the additional role of Merseburg Cathedral Organist in 1996. He is in great demand as soloist the world over, appearing across Europe, the USA and Japan. He has performed as soloist with orchestras such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Sa?chsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Munich Philharmonic, and New York Philharmonic, to name but a few. Philipp Hu?lsenbeck started his musical career as part of the experimental pop outfit Sizarr. After the band went on hiatus in 2017, he started focusing on his solo works. Since 2017, he has been working with Fabian Altsto?tter as part of his project Jungsto?tter. Reaping From The Conflux was commissioned by Gewandhaus Leipzig in 2019 as part of their collaborative program Two Play To Play.

KMYLE Keroual 12"
After a ten EPs in few years on respected labels such as Clergy, ARTS, Mord and an acclaimed debut album on Skrypto?m, young and promising techno producer Kmyle is back on the French label Astropolis Records with Keroual EP, three originals and a stunning remix from French veteran Zadig. A contemporary EP that embodies all Kmyle's technical and elegant techno, energy and his singular melodic synth work. First up is the eponym track "Keroual", in reference to Astropolis' setting, a beautiful trip to its fairyland and a large electronic universe, with emotive melodies and light chords. An enchanting meditative and dancing track, as well-suited for the dancefloor as it is for home listening. Samy steps the tempo up with "Telegraph" and falls into darkness, undulating slowly in an evil dance, with a tense melody, a rumble bassline and a hypnotic techno. A metallic tune that works on every dancefloor. On the flip side, "Syncopa" keeping the drive, seems tailored for a huge night with a forceful kick and a booming energy on its introduction, rapidly caught by a dramatic, intense and sizzling melody, enigmatic atmospheres and euphoric chords. A big tune for a big floor with a hammering beat and a delicious dark groove. French well respected producer Zadig ends the EP with a brutal and gloomy version of "Keroual", under a "Day Is Dying remix", a wink to his hardcore project. An obsessive kick with a rave-y '90s vibe turning violently the track in a stripped-back hardcore version and its intensity. Uncompromising and raw, quite cinematic at the beginning, slow-burning to madness. A pleasant chaos anthem dedicated to industrial atmospheres.

SAMTSI DRONTA Samtsi Dronta LP
????? ?????? (Samtsi Dronta, or Male of Dronts in Russian) was a shoegaze/dream pop/experimental band formed in the late '80s in Izhevsk, USSR. The first rehearsals were about noises made on detuned guitars and cheap Soviet synths while listening to cassettes of Clan Of Xymox, Cocteau Twins, Coil, Psychic TV, and Dead Can Dance in the cinema booth where worked Konstantin Bagaev (from ???? ??????? ? XI ?????, another cult soviet experimental band). In 1990, Maxim Fedoseev joined the group. According to him, he was invited because he was burnt with sulfuric acid and knew how to play the Soviet song "???? ?? ??? ???????" on the guitar. Afterward Anna Lebedeva joined the group. Concerts happened infrequently and the band recorded some tracks in 1992 ("Cassandra" and "Croquet") and 1993 ("Wild Child"). Also, a music video called "???????" (Twilight). During early '90s various musicians joined and left the band (Vasily Agafonof, ex-member of ???? ??????? ? XI ?????, and Alexandr Merzlyakov) and finally was left a duo of core members Maxim Fedoseev and Anna Lebedeva. In late '90s they disbanded. Fedoseev started other projects and Lebedeva started a media career. This is the band's first release on vinyl, remastered from the original recordings. Edition of 200. Co-released with XII Chasov records from Russia.

HIETT, STEVE Down On The Road By The Beach LP
Restocked; LP version. 140 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve; includes 16-page insert with photos and liner notes. For the first time since its inception in 1983, Steve Hiett's elusive Down On The Road By The Beach is finally made available outside of Japan. Most recognized in the fashion sphere as an English photographer and graphic designer, Hiett's transportive audio portraits amplify his serpentine guitar to the infinite blue, recorded across Paris, Tokyo and New York. A career devotee of Brian Wilson's groundbreaking harmonies, Hiett shot The Beach Boys for Rolling Stone -- as well as The Doors, Miles Davis, and Jimi Hendrix -- while establishing himself as a fashion photographer. Decamping to Paris in 1972, he began what would become 20-year collaborations with Vogue Paris and Marie Claire. In 1982, representatives from Tokyo's Galerie Watari visited him to propose a solo exhibition. Asking if he could insert a 7" of original music into the back of the exhibition catalogue, Hiett laid down "Blue Beach - Welcome To Your Beach" in a Parisian radio station, playing all of the instruments himself, and two more cuts in New York with Yoko Ono, The Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan hired-gun, Elliot Randall. Once dispatched, there were requests for him to fly to Tokyo to record; it wasn't until he arrived that he discovered CBS/Sony had facilitated an entire album. Heitt hastily gripped some petty cash, bought a guitar, and retreated to his hotel room to start writing. Entering the studio the following day, he was further surprised by a waiting room of session players known as Moonriders -- one of Japan's most acclaimed rock bands of the 1980s. Intimidated by their indecipherable sheet music, Hiett suggested Randall join them and with money being no object for major labels at the time, his wingman was on the next plane out of New York. Near-ambient arrangements that float in a space between The Durutti Column, Steve Cropper, and Ashra, Down On The Road By The Beach also crowns Hiett the master of recontextualization with his zero-gravity blues visions of "Roll Over Beethoven", Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk" and the 1967 Eddie Floyd soul hit, "Never Found A Girl". Produced in coordination between Be With Records, Efficient Space and the artist, this definitive reissue is restored from original masters; extensive liner notes penned by Mikey IQ Jones.

VA The Last Shall Be First: The JCR Records Story. Volume 1 2LP
Sacred Soul compilation containing gems from one of Memphis' most legendary gospel subsidiaries: JCR Records. Recorded in the early 70's, JCR Records was the subsidiary of D-Vine Spirituals. "Memphis, Tennessee 1972: Seated behind a primitive mixing board in a tiny Quonset hut at 64 Flicker Street, just a stones' throw from the Illinois Central railroad tracks, Pastor Juan D. Shipp crackles over the AM airwaves with an electrifying array of the latest and greatest in gospel quartet sounds. With an audience that spans the width and breadth of the Bluff City, from truck cabs to taxi stands, from Mid-Town to Orange Mound, from the Peabody Hotel to Payne's Barbecue, if you're a fan of Memphis's thriving gospel scene, you're locked into 'Juan D' at K-WAM, 'the Mighty 990,' the very station that --twenty years earlier, during its first incarnation as KWEM across the river in West Memphis, Arkansas -- had first brought blues wizard Howlin' Wolf to the ears of recording engineer Sam Phillips. Now, two decades later, having revolutionized the music world with Sun Records and its holy trinity of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, the Wolf still remained Phillips' favorite. 'This is where the soul of man never dies,' he'd memorably declared of the six-foot-six gravel-voiced force of nature, a description that could just as easily be applied to so many of the artists whose records Shipp is now spinning over the air."

HAMANN, JUDITH Peaks LP
Black Truffle present Peaks by Australian cellist Judith Hamann, her debut release of electro-acoustic music. Known mostly for her live performance work with composers including Sarah Hennies, Yvette Janine Jackson, Alvin Lucier, Tashi Wada, and La Monte Young, here she steps away from the cello, moving into an intimate dreamscape woven from recordings gathered over years of itinerant touring. Peaks is a work in two distinct parts, crossfading between different landscapes and apertures; from rooftop to church, from stasis to flares of momentary romanticism. Peaks considers summits as being both above and below, reframing the idea of apex from a more intimate perspective. Hamann considers how our domestic and personal geographies might form their own apogees, meridians, or nadirs. Assembled in 2019 while an artist in residence in Krems, Austria, Peaks begins with Hamann's more familiar cello but soon unravels into resonant electronic interiors; Southern California nightscapes heard through windows, San Francisco bathroom fans, snatches of recordings of friends, hand organs, and engines. "signal/Centinela" draws primarily on recordings from Hamann's time living in San Diego, and carries with it a certain sense of nostalgia in the sense of homesickness, longing, and displacement of distance and time. Side B is composed from recordings gathered on a different continent, Europe, weaving piano with recordings of sleep, breath, church organ, and the act of climbing. "under/over" emerges as it recedes, overlapping moments of arrival to create another kind of "spire" in the sense of spir (breath). Peaks, with its omission of any recordings from Hamann's home of Australia, hints at how the very construction of home itself, might be restless, untethered, changeable, and malleable. On Peaks, Hamann interrogates tropes of ambient concrète musics, intentionally pivoting formally around material which teeters on the edge of cliché. This exploration asks whether familiar frames of harmony, field recordings and narrative trajectories can excavate new territories, or be ruptured. Peaks untangles a very personal sense of tension between beauty and shame in experimental music: treating lushness and harmony as possessing potentially muscular musical properties that might wrestle with or construct senses of belonging and home. Design by Lasse Marhaug. Photos by Judith Hamann. Mixed and mastered by Alan F Jones.

TORAL, RAFAEL Aeriola Frequency LP
Black Truffle announce the first vinyl reissue of Rafael Toral's Aeriola Frequency, originally released by Perdition Plastics in 1998. Toral made his name in the world of mid-90s experimental electronics with two releases, Sound Mind Sound Body (1994) and Wave Field (1995), both now recognized as classics and reissued on vinyl by Drag City, which saw him exploring the potential of electric guitar and pedals to immerse the listener in seemingly endless waves of sustained tones. On Wave Field, inspired by the striking resonance effects he experienced during a Buzzcocks gig with bad acoustics, he achieved a synthesis -- often imitated but never bettered -- of rock guitar, ambient, and the acoustic exploration of Alvin Lucier, a kind of "liquid, abstract flux of rock sound". On Aeriola Frequency, Toral continued the explorations of Wave Field but dropped the guitar, creating a series of extended pieces using only a simple feedback loop designed to work with pure electronic resonance. The result is far more delicate than Wave Field, a steady but unstable flow of filtered tones that continually reorder themselves into new forms. On both the LP's sides, the tones, like growing plants, imperceptibly shift from drifting freely in ambient space to weaving strangely natural melodic patterns, as the loops unfold and the resonance gently outlines recurring rhythmic shapes. The overall effect is strikingly organic, as David Toop noted in the liner notes included in the original release (and reprinted in this reissue): "A crystal garden, the sound grows in reeds and streams, blown like spider web strands, glittering and invisible, pulsing with translucent colour, bubbling and imploding, fraying and powdering." A classic of the non-academic approach to electronics that flourished in the 1990s -- and a big influence at the time on Black Truffle head honcho Oren Ambarchi -- Aeriola Frequency ushers listeners into an endlessly fascinating world of gliding tones and shifting details that they might never want to leave. Recorded at Noise Precision, Portugal, December 1997 and April 1998. Remastered by Rafael Toral in 2020. Images taken from Air Pass, a video by Rafael Toral. Design by Lasse Marhaug.

REV, MARTIN See Me Ridin' LP
LP version. "Martin Rev's fourth solo album See Me Ridin' was released on the New York label Reachout International Records (ROIR) in 1996. Received by the critics with amazement, it proved to be a watershed moment in his career. Journalist Neil Cooper wrote at the time: 'When I first heard Rev's new record, I was taken aback. Was he serious? Was this some inside joke? He had to be kidding -- or was he mentally over the top!' Its reception echoed that of the 1992 Suicide album Why Be Blue, which sprung such a surprise on fans of the duo comprising Martin Rev and Alan Vegas. On this particular solo album, Rev repeated the trick of dispensing with rough, brittle sounds. This was not Rev seeking to distance himself from his musical origins, he was actually getting back closer to his roots. Signs of Martin Rev's formative influence as an electronic music pioneer can be seen in many places. Virtually no one would have expected him to deliver a doo-wop album, but in the light of Rev's socialization and artistic tradition, it reflects a logical process of absolute reduction. Martin Rev crafted See Me Ridin' as a kind of power pop hybrid, an album which owed much to the R&B and doowop of the 1950s and 1960s; the music which a youthful Martin Rev heard on the streets of New York, the soundtrack to his teenage years which had such an intense effect on him and would resurface in his own works. Nowhere more so than here. The instrumental foundations of these 16 tracks are built on rudimentarily sketched melodic arches, outlines rather than fully defined structures, yet all the more forceful for that. As if the full potency of an R&B band has been distilled into minimalist keyboard compositions. Martin Rev's vocals are as minimal as they are sentimental, wonderfully poetic like a latter-day Chet Baker perhaps, or Jonathan Richman. This solo album not only blindsided Rev's critics and fans alike, but also painted a personal, nostalgic portrait of his home, New York; fading out the noise and contradictions of the city to channel the romantic energy of the metropolis." --Daniel Jahn, May 2020

VA Sowas Von Egal 2: German Synth Wave Underground 1981-1984 LP
Restocked. LP version. Two years have passed since Bureau B released the first Sowas Von Egal compilation (BB 310CD/LP, 2018). With the musical movement or genre known as NDW celebrating its 40th anniversary, what better time than now to launch an ambitious successor to the first sampler. The beating heart of this endeavor is once again invigorated by the synchronous passions of bespoke Hamburg label Bureau B and the label's Damaged Goods nights where they present rare, obscure synth and wave discs from the early 1980s. It was clear from the outset that Sowas Von Egal 2 would need to scale similar heights of excellence as its predecessor, featuring carefully selected, sought-after, danceable tunes. Bureau B began by compiling a pool of potential tracks, a creative process of lively discussion in the spirit of "open-mindedness" which culminated in a list of priority targets. After research and rich encounters with input from musicians, friends, and acquaintances, Bureau B revised their target list several times over -- some artists simply could not be found, a few had actually passed away. There were also some who were determined not to revisit their own musical history and asked the label to leave out their songs. Some tracks are so rare that they do not even appear on YouTube. Bureau B have picked up the rights to release them. In contrast to the first volume, most of the acts on Sowas Von Egal 2 were only active in the early 1980s and have not released any records since then. The tape artists were particularly invested in the DIY ethic -- as is often apparent in their sound aesthetics and the unbridled energy which has lost none of its intensity today. Their art was seldom -- if ever -- tempered by commercial considerations or sales strategies. The photograph on the cover beautifully captures the paradoxical tensions which pervaded the atmosphere of the early Eighties: new beginnings, renewal, protest and self-empowerment on one side, frustration, hedonism, future anxiety, and destructive rage on the other. The DIY spirit ingrained in the music and attitude of the bands and artists gathered here is also brought into focus, whilst simultaneously establishing a connection to Hamburg. Mastering by Tom Morgenstern. Artwork by Biljana Tomic. Features Die Neue Weltmacht, Christian Kneisel, Silberstreif, Lieferschein, 4712, Plastiktanz, Rolf Jungklaus, Vono, Kleenex Aktiv, Conrad + Gregor Schnitzler, Partner Eins, Mark Montan, "In" Seit, Mittageisen, Die Synthetische Republik, and Casino Mariteam.

LEGOWELT System Shapeshift EP 12"
Dutch producer Danny Wolfers, aka Legowelt, needs little introduction unless you've spent the past two decades buried beneath a Mont Blanc avalanche. His enormous collection of synthesizers, as well as his unwavering love for analog production tools, justifiably places him in the synth music "Hall of Fame". Since releasing his first material in the early 1990s, Legowelt has incessantly produced music and continues to display seemingly limitless creativity. As a result, he has built an unparalleled discography that also includes an assortment of artist aliases. Legowelt's new EP System Shapeshift EP will be released on Lapsus sub label C.E.E., specializing in more club-oriented sounds. The label returns to action after a two-year hiatus, during which time its intrepid explorers failed twice to scale the dizzy heights of Nanga Parbat. Now back at sea level C.E.E.'s head honchos have confirmed the release of Legowelt's new five-track EP, bursting at the seams with 30 minutes of unrelenting old-school techno, synth house and snaking electro bathed in pure acid. The EP is a genuine time bomb, ideal for the most discerning of electronic music lovers.

French post-punk is full of diversity and never ends to surprise the amateurs. This 7" showcases two different approaches by reissuing hard to find tracks by Jinx and Madame Bovary. Jinx made the elusive track "Rêve Inconscient" in 1987. Guided by an unreachable and mysterious female voice you're able to walk through an enigmatic path. A dream that you probably wouldn't want to wake up. Madame Bovary had a more upfront attitude. Jangly guitars, rowdy lyrics and leading synth lines defined their sound. "I'm a Runner" summarize their vision.

LAGOSS Imaginary Island Music Vol. 1: Canary Islands LP
Introducing a new project by Discrepant label boss Gonçalo F. Cardoso (Gonzo, Visions Congo, Papillon, Prophetas) and Tenerife electronic stalwarts Tupperwear (Mladen Kurajica and Dani Tupper). Diving deep into various phantom island mythologies (the elusive St. Brendan's island being a recurring motif) Lagoss borrow from the exotica playbook of ideas and twist it inside out into a bubbling melting pot of sounds, shapes, and patterns that eventually confuse, wonder, and (occasionally) scare the inattentive listener. Built like a schizophrenic booklet of moods, with 30+ vignettes describing the various habitats and moods of the local (imaginary) archipelago, Imaginary Island Music Vol. 1 offers grand visions of brave new old worlds, independent from the obvious, atypical lines of thought. There's no such thing as a break from mother nature here, fauna and flora take it all, a constant buzz of local predators, big and small, preying on everyone and anyone, constantly -- humans are just temporary guests here. A nautical almanac of remote notions from a forsaken land, built and rebuilt upon layer and layer of green and blue death -- forget Martin Denny, no armchair xylophone grooves here. All music by Lagoss. Artwork by Evan Crankshaw. Mastered by Rashad Becker. One-off vinyl edition of 500; printed inner sleeve.

VA Gritty, Odd & Good LP
Gritty, Odd & Good is a new weird, pseudo-music compilation curated by avant-garde experimental composer and audio artist Francisco López. As far as creation itself is concerned, big cities do not manifest anymore as the catalytic cultural centers they used to be. Their iconic status as hip locations seem more symbolic than real. The combined mighty forces of neocapitalist gentrification and telecommunication/information decentralization might have generated a substantially different landscape of geographical cultural distribution. And so unlikely places are also sources of physically-isolated, but culturally-interconnected, new creation. This is just but one more example of the larger phenomenon of techno-cultural atomization (not to be confused with the more restricted so-called "democratization") that allows millions of people to create and share, pre- and post-internet. The amateur is the new potential master; and that is decided by the crowd in the circus and the stadium, not at the academy. With all of this comes the potential for new aesthetics, or at least the open-ended evolution of the previous ones -- far better than the current confusion between ethics and aesthetics -- from the uninformed and the unknown. Atomization of this kind also brings for some the desire and the right to anonymity. And so it is for the unknown obscure artists of this compilation of weird experimental music -- "gritty, odd & good", with drones, glitches, cut-ups and more -- who won't reveal anything beyond their unlikely locations: San Marino, French Guiana, Philippines, Lesotho, Oman, Faroe Islands, Tuvalu, Liechtenstein, Kyrgyzstan. An innovative compilation presenting a world of unusual experimental de-constructed and recombined music casting a strong and exciting light into the unusual corners of our world. Dive in. Compiled and mastered by Francisco López. Vinyl mastered by Rashad Becker. Features Giuseppe Moretti, Daryana Jean, James Ocampo, Thabiso Makhetha, Rashid Al Balushi, Lív Jacobsen, Eteroa Apinelu, Zzodiakk, and Alima Akmatova.

BLACK DOG, THE Fragments CD
The Black Dog on Fragments: "Fragments was a completely new way of working for us. We've always worked with an internal brief, creating documents, pictures and videos, simply because keeping an idea on track with three individuals can be difficult. It's easy for someone to be edged out of the creative process when the focus is not clearly defined. It's a formula we've used since the early 2000s, but things have changed a lot since then, particularly when we decided to dip our collective toes into supporter memberships with Patreon. It made us think about what we could do directly for our supporters rather than just the next album or project. At first, the whole thing felt odd and uncomfortable, but we decided that we'd try a few things and ask for feedback. Fragments was initially a way for us to see how we could include others in an ongoing creative process. There was no over-arching concept, no defined characteristics or purpose, just the promise that there would be at least one new track for members to download every month. Consequently, we never knew what was coming next, so the old, very focused working method was irrelevant. It was difficult for us to let individual tracks go without knowing what was coming next, but this also made the project more interesting. And then C19 hit and we were forced to continue the project remotely from our home studios. As difficult as the disruption was, it was during this period that we realized we could re-organize and remaster the individual tracks into a coherent album, capturing a specific moment in time and drawing a line under the first phase of the project. Like our Allegory EPs, we've tried to keep everything stripped back. We used to hide many subtle elements within the layers, but not so much this time. Fragments is our journey through many changes, both self-imposed and those imposed upon us, and it ultimately led us to create things differently. We hope you like it."

Across Akebono, Mathimidori delivers hazy, spaced-out instrumentals like "Maiia", "Ork", and "Soso" while tracks like "Asaka" and "Shao" offer a darker approach. The project also welcomes an assortment of collaborations such as opening track "Java" alongside Spain's Pulshar, "Kiok" featuring Japanese artist Tomomi Ukumori and "Kobe" with Germany's Rhauder which all lean towards downtempo dub territories. BELLYDANCE 3 Days Man! 12"
Turned on by a new dawn of chemical love, Sydney dance-funk combo Bellydance laid down their sampledelica blueprint in 1991, thinking in parallel with Weatherall's revelatory work with Primal Scream. A candy flip of street soul, festival jam band and Chip Monck's cautionary brown acid address, 3 Days Man! was primed for open fields and discotheques, in an age when the deejay was royalty. With an elastic lineup that boasted up to nine members, Bellydance synchronized more with the club scene than the city's straight-ahead pub rock racket, naturally recruiting hometown heroes Peewee and John Ferris to remix their multi-track concoction. A certified party closing anthem, the brother's sun-smacked breakbeats elevate a collective consciousness beyond the clouds. Originally issued on Regular Records sub-label Boomshanka Music as a precursor to their album One Blood, the now sought-after 12" sports characteristic artwork from Mambo visionary and Mental As Anything co-founder, Reg Mombassa. Instigated by Sydney selector Ben Fester, this Efficient Space reboot arrives fashionably late to Woodstock's 50th anniversary but just in time to help soothe universal division. 12" with picture sleeve.

TAIBACH Taibach LP
Empty Editions present the debut 12" from mysterious electronic outfit Taibach. Conceptualized by ABCs, Taibach has emerged from the shadows as a blunted East-Asian historical consciousness failing to return home after becoming a stranger to itself. With a nom de guerre which references both the infamous Slovenian proto-industrial group Laibach and their mythologized homeland of Taiwan, Taibach restages the classic thematics and aesthetic strategies of industrial music for a contemporary moment in which shifting balances of power between east and west herald new hegemonies and exhume old grievances. Their martial approach to electronics follows in a brood of decidedly cryptic underground music: drawing on the sound of classic industrial bands, early '90s techno, and more recent developments at the intersection of noise and rhythmic music. Taibach embraces futile Taiwan-based nationalism by celebrating the seldom-criticized reactionary tendencies of the region as a document of its history and its current political impasses. Taibach's debut LP contains a rawness and intensity that excels in club contexts, spilling over into more varied strands of experimental and underground music. While the music itself is primed for big room sound systems, the omnivorous use of guitar, effects pedals, and sampling techniques alongside stalwart drum programming also allow for more intimate listening -- soundtracking both club depravity and solitary walks in equal measure. The kosmische proto-electro bite of "Spicy Test" furnishes a terse blueprint for Taibach's aural vocabulary: skeletal drums brought deliberately into the red provide a burnt, metallic underpinning to the record's five tracks. Across the LP, rhythm is complemented by asymmetric washes of tape hiss, feedback, and filtered voices which ride alongside the drum patterns. Tracks "You Are Shit!" and "Enemy Inside" carve out wide expanses for filtered chords and sequenced synths to reflect against uncoiling rhythms. The LP culminates in "Rocket (Live)," an opus of live sound system music that carries with it the hot heat of a subterranean, neon-lit industrial catacomb filled with vampiric club-goers. As guitar noise billows out over a militant rhythm that recalls everything from darkwave to Container (or early Suicide records) the track builds into an assailing polyrhythm that showcases a dancefloor severity at the height of their transportive powers. Includes photocopied insert of a watercolor painting depicting an anonymous man hanging from a streetlamp.

ARMED GANG, THE Kenny Claiborne And The Armed Gang LP
Espacial Discos present a reissue of Kenny Claiborne And The Armed Gang's The Armed Gang, originally released in 1983. An Italo/boogie/funk/synth holy grail. Armed Gang was a project created in Vicenza by famous Italo-disco producer/musician Maurizio Sangineto "Sangy" (Firefly, Creatures, etc), featuring keyboard wizard Flavio Botta plus three black American vocalists: Kenny Claiborne, Joe Beach, and James Otis White Jr, who were army soldiers destined in Italy at the time (hence the "Armed Gang" name). Their sole album was released in 1983 in Italy and Brazil on Sangy's own label, Musix, and is now heavily sought-after by collectors and DJs. Master tape sound; Original Italian artwork; Includes insert with photos and liner notes by Gonzalo Oya."Offering an overdose of street funk -- catchy and foxy -- Armed Gang were going against the current trends that dominated the Italian disco scene at that time. Moving away from the crescent influence of British synth-pop as well as from the ubiquitous shadow of the Nile Rodgers sound -- both essential to Italo disco -- they opted for a sound closer to boogie, a genre that was getting bigger & bigger in the USA. This formula crystallized in several unique gems that will always be part of the history of European black music, like 'Funky Fever' (a P-Funk ode to cannabis) and delicious disco anthems ('Are You Ready' or 'You'), that, without any doubt, should have deserved more recognition from radio stations and European audiences at the time." --Gonzalo Oya

JAREL, JNEIRO After A Thousand Years CD
In 2018, Far Out Recordings signed a record deal with Brooklyn born, nomadic producer Jneiro Jarel. Having just put the finishing touches to the recordings, Jarel suffered an ischemic stroke while living and working in Costa Rica and his wife Indigo was forced to set up a crowd fund to cover special medical transport back to the states to receive treatment. The release was put on hold, but thanks to the generosity of friends and fans around the world, Jarel was able to get the care he needed and is now on the long road to recovery. Far Out Recordings are overjoyed to announce the release of Jneiro Jarel's After A Thousand Years. Throughout a career that has spanned over twenty years and seen collaborations with MF DOOM, Thom Yorke, Damon Albarn, BadBadNotGood, Portishead's Beth Gibbons, Kimbra, and Khujo Goodie (Dungeon Family), Jneiro Jarel's consistently distinctive, forward thinking productions, as well as his love for the music of Brazil, made his partnership with Far Out a perfect fit. Recorded between New York, New Orleans, Miami, and Costa Rica, After A Thousand Years features legendary multi-instrumentalist Bill Summers, famed for his work with Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, and Eddie Henderson. The album also features Malawian-American guitarist Masauko Chipembere who has worked with the likes of RZA from Wu-Tang Clan and Ladybug Mecca from Digable Planets. Permeating the Brazilian music and Latin jazz Jarel has loved and drawn inspiration from, as well as the stateside jazz, soul, and funk, Jarel grew up around, the influence of Africa and its musical history, on both North and South America, is key to the album's sound. On lead single "Banana Peel", Jarel's outernational perspective makes for a track that is almost impossible to place geographically: you can hear the swing of Jarel's native New Orleans jazz, the vibrance of Costa Rican rainforests as well as the influence of Jarel's vast collection of Brazilian records. "Viberian Waves 1 & 2" is equally nonconformist, morphing from funky Baroque-flavored instrumental hip hop into a bossa inspired, percussive jam. Taking its inspiration from the biblical prophecies foretelling the fully realized, physical and spiritual restoration of the earth and mankind after the thousand year reign of the Messianic Kingdom, After A Thousand Years contemplates and celebrates a world where everlasting love, peace, and harmony abound under a sovereign, divine rulership. Also features Scott Burton, Dr Who Dat?, Capitol Peoples, Café, and Micröclimate.

"After the lunatic one-two punch of 1970's Total Destruction to Your Mind and 1971's Rat On!, Swamp Dogg aimed for something a bit more earthbound with his third LP, 1972's Cuffed Collared & Tagged, which opens and closes with a pair of contemporary covers and even finds the artist otherwise known as Jerry Williams tackling the Beatles' 'Lady Madonna.' But if this is a somewhat less crazed mixture of R&B, funk, rock & roll, and Swamp Dogg's own trademark world view, it's still clearly his work, especially on the wigged-out Sly Stone parody/tribute 'If It Hadn't Been for Sly' and the stream-of-consciousness wordplay of 'Complication #5.' Swamp Dogg's love of home truths fuel 'You Say You Trust Your Mother,' he's his own kind of love man on 'Captain of Your Ship' and 'Knowing I'm Pleasing Me and You,' he calls out his cheating woman on 'Your Last Dirty Trick,' and he offers a look into the side streets of his own mind on 'My Resume.' This being a product of the era when Swamp Dogg could command a decent recording budget, Cuffed Collared & Tagged is filled with soul-satisfying Southern soul grooves performed by a killer studio band, complete with wailing organ lines and a swaggering horn section that bring Swamp Dogg's tales to funky life. And the covers offer a reminder of what an amazing vocalist Williams was in his prime: his outstanding version of John Prine's 'Sam Stone' cuts to the core of the song's bitter tale of a drug-addicted Vietnam vet, and the eight-minute take of Joe South's 'Don't It Make You Want to Go Home' is emotionally vivid and straight from the heart. This isn't one of Swamp Dogg's crazier albums, but if you want to hear the Mad Genius of Soul deliver some grade-A jams, this is just what you need."

PERRY, JORDAN Changing Always Who Is Waving to Us Cassette
"FTR is excited and honored to be working with the Virginia-based guitarist, Jordan Perry, again on his new cassette. Our previous work with Jordan began with a reissue of his eponymous 2017 debut LP originally released by Good Cry Records, and was followed by vinylization of his self-released 2018 cassette, Witness Tree (FTR 465LP). Both of these albums are fantastic blends of folk technique and avant strategies, and the same can be said of this new cassette, Changing Always Who Is Waving to Us. Comprised of four pieces longer than the work on those earlier albums, the material was recorded earlier this year, originally just as a way to document some improvisations. Jordan returned to them when he was trying to write a new batch of tunes and, 'felt like they sat together nicely and were managing to do some of the stuff on their own that I was trying for with pen to paper.' Once he realized this, the project came together pretty quickly, and he decided to use a poem he'd been working on to name the tracks (and the tape itself). a cycle back not too fast with chilly eyes but two came by as our plastic horses rise and fall changing always who is waving to us. It's beautiful stuff. Like his other the music, quietly reflective in some spots and pungently intellectual in others. The length of the instrumentals also allows each to assume the feel of a mini-suite, and gives these alternating emotional approaches a chance to reconcile and create a new alloy. Perry has a way of approaching the guitar that is truly unique. And the closer you listen to it, the more surprises you'll discover in his music. Just amazing." --Byron Coley, 2020

HURLEY, MICHAEL Living Ljubljana LP
2020 restock. "In March 1995, soon after the German Veracity label issued Wolfways, and just before they did Parsnips Snips (1995) (Hurley's first vinyl after a nine-year drought), the Great Snock undertook his first European tour. Joined by bassist Robert Michener (from the Richmond scene Hurley'd been involved in) and percussionist Mickey Bones (legendary Boston drummer & bones player), Hurley hit a bunch of places and Germany and also KLUB K4 in Llubjana, Slovenia, where this set was recorded. The sound is beautiful, the band plays with lazy perfection, and Hurley's vocals are energetically melodic. He does some songs that were only released on the series of cassettes that immediately preceded Wolfways ('Horse's Ass,' 'The Beggar's Terms'), stuff from Wolfways ('Letter in Neon,' 'Portland Water,' 'I Paint a Design'), classics like 'O My Stars,' and a few cover tunes. And More! Packed up in a new Hurley art cover design (based on the Euro tour t-shirt), with great liner notes detailing the rigors of a German press junket from right before the tour-proper, this package is sure to please discerning Snockophiles of all stripes. It's a fantastic spin. Dig in today." --Byron Coley, 2018.

VA Daisies (Sedmikrasky) (White Vinyl with Yellow Yolk) LP
LP version. White vinyl with yellow yolk. Back in the latter half of the 1960s the burgeoning idiosyncratic group of alternative filmmakers coming out of (then) Czechoslovakia known as the Czech new wave were taking art house cinemas in western Europe and America by storm. The hour-long films that came out of the infamous Barrandov Studio production house played a competitive rival to that of the French and Italian new waves with their very own immaculate and spellbinding takes on cinema verité, film noir, surrealism and cinema concrète. But after the Soviet Union invaded Czech in August 1968 the clampdown on non-conformist creative arts saw over seventy films either banned or withdrawn from production in a mass culling of film reels until 1970. It is not until recent years that the genre has become widely recognized as a veritable and virtually untapped source of inspiration for fans of experimental cinema, psychedelic cinematography, baroque costumes and scenery, music and graphic design. Daisies pulls together what you might call the "Holy Trinity" of the Czech new wave -- director Vera Chytilová, costume and set designer Esther Krumbachová, and cinematographer Jaroslav Kucera -- arguably the three most forward thinking and truly experimental minds in the whole of the CNW collective. Witness Les Petites Margeurites (original French theatrical title) as they mischievously flutter through Prague's finest restaurants accompanying middle-aged men on flamboyant double dates in gastronomic ménage à trois -- "If the world spoils itself, then we shall be spoiled as well" decide the two bikini clad button-cute Maries in the film's opening scenes. The radical and experimental nature of Daisies is further enhanced by its erratic score which consists of the juxtaposition of various non-melodic elements and sound effects, laden with a broad palette of samples and snippets of choral and classical vintage recordings spliced with concréte effects, traditional brass band music, Disney style exotica, Charleston dance standards, and token '60s beat tracks. Originally prepared for public consumption by Finders Keepers in 2007 and available once again this immaculate release was taken from the original reels and compiled in close accordance to the original storyline and comes complete with unseen archive images, original international poster designs and new and extensive sleeve notes. Compositions by Jiri Sust & Jiri Slitr, Eva Pilerova, Jan Klusák, and Marie Cesková.

LISKA, ZDENEK Mala Morska Víla (The Little Mermaid) (Splatter Vinyl) LP
LP version. Splatter vinyl (edition of 500). The original orchestral/electronic score from Karel Kachyna's 1976 Czech film adaptation of Hans C. Anderson's The Little Mermaid, composed by Zdenek Liska (The Cremator/Fruits of Paradise) featuring Lenka Korinkova. Liska's legacy in the history of European cinema is huge in volume but relatively modest in its celebrity having already composed nine scores for Kachyna's films to add to his 1976 filmography of 150 completed soundtracks. Back in 2005, five years before Finders Keepers Records released Zdenek Liska's soundtrack to Malá Morská Víla for the first time, folklore and fairy tale fanatics around the globe celebrated the 200-year anniversary of the birth of one of the world's most celebrated children's authors of the published era. This Danish born writer's stories have been translated into over 150 languages and have continued to enchant and inspire children and adults, arts and crafts, film and theatre, providing a creative binding substance in modern society's social fiber. With a life story that entwines equal measures of tragedy, mystery, intensity and majesty to that of his own written work, Hans Christian Andersen's early years balancing contradictory roles as a weaver's apprentice, a soprano singer, a fledgling poet and an abused grammar school pupil with speculative links to the monarchy, manifested themselves in his written world of fantasy and fiction. His running themes of mutation, metamorphosis, rebirth, prejudice and class distinction are none more prevalent than in what are perhaps his two best known tales The Ugly Duckling, first published November 11th, 1843, and the bittersweet surrealist tale of The Little Mermaid, printed in the third booklet of the first volume of Eventyr, Fortalte For Børn (Tales, Told For Children) in 1837. One of the most idiosyncratic and haunting undiscovered scores in the annals of European cinematic history, Liska's forward thinking score has all the hallmarks of a Broadcast record, some 20 years before the band first committed sound to vinyl. Beautifully remastered from the original mastertapes with the full cooperation of the seminal Barrandov Studios in Prague.

YAS-KAZ Jomon-Sho LP
Glossy Mistakes present a reissue of Yas-Kaz's Jomon-Sho, originally released in 1985. Peaceful, percussive, and idyllic new age from Japanese composer and student of gamelan music, Yas-Kaz. This seminal album is a cornerstone to understand the Japanese ambient and environmental movement. He rose to musical prominence composing for the dance troupe led by one of the founders of Butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata. The album features a wide range of entirely acoustic instruments and field recordings and was made for stage performance by Sankai Juku Butoh Group at Theatre de la Ville, Paris. Yas-Kaz has influenced quite a few important artists (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Midori Takada, Geino Yamashiro-Gumi) over four decades. However, he remains somewhat "unsung": Glossy Mistakes unveils his art throughout this special edition. His composition/music is not focused on any specific genre/style of music either. Especially in his work for dance theatre he often delivers bare abstract sound/resonance which might not be recognized as "musical" from the Western perspective. He lived in Bali, Indonesia in the '70s introducing the gamelan Balinese sounds and culture to Ryuichi Sakamoto (collaborated in the album Esperanto), Midori Takada, Shoji Yamashiro (leader of Geino Yamashiro-Gumi who later created the soundtrack for Akira) among others. A unique and unseen masterpiece unveiled again throughout a remastered edition.

Fourteen Years is the first of three 10" comprising Charlotte Courbe's third album. It marks her return to Honest Jon's after two decades. Recently, Charlotte joined Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, singing and playing scissors. Her recording "Born To Lie" featured prominently in the TV series Killing Eve. After a cancer diagnosis last year, Charlotte felt the urge to produce and release new music. "It became like a vital thing." "MRI Song" and "Planet Ping Pong" were recorded during chemotherapy. "Mind Contorted" is a duet with Terry Hall, also featuring Terry's son Theodore, and Noel Gallagher on guitars, in a cover of Daniel Johnston. The song Fourteen Years is the oldest inclusion. Meant for LVC's second album -- I Wish Dee Dee Ramone Was Here With Me -- it announces a fresh, freer direction. The sleeve exclusively presents new work by the celebrated English artist, John Stezaker, in the first of a triptych. This EP is laced with surprise and subversiveness. It's refreshing candor sets it apart. It's a unique, compelling listen."When I first met her she was wearing a cape. She looked like a little piece of Lego. She told me she liked some of my songs but not all of them. (I hadn't even asked her opinion!) She's beautiful, fearless and one hell of a tambourine player." --Noel Gallagher"Inspiring originality, fiercely independent, beautiful music, always years ahead of its time. In 2015, he puts aside the idea of becoming a professional pianist and moves to Geneva, to work for CERN: but, there, he also falls in love with club music... Back on holiday in Naples in 2020, dusts off his old synths and records this love letter to his own musical past. Palinuro Phonebox is inspired by childhood memories of summer holidays in the south of Italy: nightly car trips on endless highways, late arrivals in camps for families, loitering in grungy arcade bars with cheesy neon signs, calling your friends from an old payphone and running out of coins, sneaking out unseen on some buddy's souped-up moped, playing grown-ups with girls drinking sodas with an attitude.

E-SAGGILA Corporate Cross 2LP
E-Saggila is an enigmatic cult producer in electronics, constructing soaring calm from dynamic turbulence as the era of domesticated destruction and creation arrives. Conceived by Iraqi-born, Canadian sound artist Rita Mikhael, E-Saggila has quickly established itself as an unapologetic presence in superseding divisionism in underground music. With prior crucial releases on Northern Electronics and BANK Records, the project quickly gained attention among the disparate factions of noise, breakcore, and infrastructure rising outside of the traditional European club superstructure. After delivering a commanding and highlight performance at the 2019 Hospital Fest, E-Saggila forged an alliance with Hospital Productions and presents her label debut, Corporate Cross, an intricate multifaceted double album that requires introspection with its wide spectrum of emotion, coldness, and light that defies definition. Combining elements of breakcore, ambient, contemporary composition, and twisted rhythms, the album provides a deep headphone listen that can function both as elemental elevation or wreck any club system. Heavy cut-up bass is immediate and but never overrides detailed abstract melodic hooks. E-Saggila creates music that coexists on the dancefloor, the car stereo and the bedroom bookshelf speakers, simultaneously and seamlessly. The composer took inspiration from social anthropologist Mary Douglas, particularly in regards to her concepts of "dirt" which associates dirt as a form of disruption to order. E-Saggila takes this concept in compressed surreal washes of melody noise and merciless drum building hierarchy deconstruction. In the artist's own words: "This album is a framework of placement and displacement of what I recognize as organic and instinctive. The constructed sounds draw a parallel between primalism and mechanization, where structure and disorder mimic themselves through these titles. A lot of these ideas are based off of the environment I come in contact with and the familiar expression and tone that is set into this album. It's a narration of transparent rhythms and patterns I see as natural, but to the listener is observed as ambiguous. Corporate Cross scans through the themes of novelty in human and animal, endemic and deterioration, and the sub-systems of our concealed environment." Throughout these concise and powerful eight tracks, melodies and textures juxtapose with sound events for a euphoric convergence. Each track maintains and explores a different facet of sound while maintaining an overall arc that grips the listener from start to finish, a true narrative without the "ambient" filler that proliferates currently.

TAYLOR, CECIL At Angelica 2000 Bologna 2CD
In the year 2000, when Bologna was European Capital of Culture, AngelicA Festival, then in its tenth edition, invited Cecil Taylor to hold a concert at the Teatro Comunale - Opera House of Bologna: solo, with his piano (and his dance and his poetry readings) he opened an evening that ended with a rendition of the luminous piece Coptic Light by Morton Feldman performed by the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, conducted by Jurjen Hempel. This unusual juxtaposition (not in the history of the festival) should not surprise: initially ascribed only to free jazz, throughout the decades Taylor's music has been re-evaluated in all its formal complexity, and is nowadays recognized as one of the most singular productions in the musical landscape of the nineteenth century. The additional uniqueness of this release is that it adds a second CD, titled Rap, to the recording of that memorable concert, which documents the public meeting-interview that Taylor agreed to give in Bologna on the following day. Moderated by the musicologist (and founding member of the band Stormy Six) Franco Fabbri, and transcribed and notated in its entirety in the forty pages booklet (in English/Italian) by the jazz critic and historian Francesco Martinelli, Taylor opened the meeting by reading a complex statement of his on the definition of music, inclusive of an explanatory glossary at the end. What came after was no less bewildering, with Taylor using the moderator's questions as a springboard for an explosive tour de force of quotes and references. It offers the listeners an experience almost equivalent to the extraordinary internal mobility of his concerts, and a precise grid of interpretation of the imaginaries he drew from to create his unique sound, scenic and vocal theatre. The release is completed by "No Matter What - Montage of Meanings", an homage that the director of the festival Massimo Simonini paid to Taylor in May 2020, editing together extracts of the concert and of the public meeting. Recorded on May 10, 2000 at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and on May 11, 2000 at the Palazzo dei Notai, Bologna, Italy, during AngelicA, Festival Internazionale di Musica, 10th edition Mastered in May 2020 by Bob Drake at Studio Midi-Pyrénées, La Borde Basse, Caudeval, France.

MENGELBERG, MISHA Rituals of Transition CD
In 2002, Misha Mengelberg was invited for the second time to the AngelicA Festival in Bologna. That edition, the twelfth, took part entirely in a squatted social center of the city, and, in collaboration with Tristan Honsinger, was conceived as one large opera lasting six days -- an opera within which the performances of many national and international artists fitted in like individual mobile "modules". Especially for this occasion and on the festival director's suggestion, who had attended a performance by the ICP Orchestra in Amsterdam during which Mengelberg had unexpectedly stood up from the piano and started singing, on the evening of May 17th 2002 the musician entered the venue pushed on a mobile platform, from which he performed a very short program of "Solo Songs" -- at the end he acted as if he was falling asleep and was pushed back behind the scenes. This burning set of approximately 15 minutes of "songs" -- in the broadest sense of the term, as the highly original Dutch composer-improviser could conceive them -- is the starting point of this CD, complemented by other previously unreleased live recordings of concerts held between 2002 and 2010 in the Netherlands, Ukraine and France, provided by the Mengelberg Foundation. As the saxophonist Ab Baars, author of the liner notes, describes them: "The improvisations on this CD are everything: annoying, exciting, meaningless, brilliant, swinging, crazy, too long, too short, irritating, beautiful, moving. And light as a feather. They come and they go again. Without intention. They are. Without boast." Rituals of Transition is the second release that I Dischi Di Angelica dedicates to the great Dutch musician and composer.

ROSE, RICHARD Radiation Breeze LP
"When new projects are discussed, I sometimes hear a disclaimer along the lines of, 'this band isn't reinventing the wheel,' to which I want to know what's everyone's so apologetic about. The wheel was a pretty good invention -- good luck getting anywhere without one. So let's consider a redefinition, instead. Los Angeles based quintet Richard Rose may or may not feature prominent players from bands including but not limited to Ex-Cult, GØGGS, OBN III's, Snooty Garbagemen, Bad Sports, Hooveriii and Stress Group... but as much as said bands were amongst the best and brightest on offer in Memphis, Houston and Austin, this new amalgamation is a bolder proposition. Without question, there's echoes of their past work -- the malevolent vocal presence of Laurence Richard and guitar virtuosity of Thomas Rose in particular -- but Richard Rose's first full-length thoroughly ups the ante on the band's 2019 debut In The Red EP. The wheels in question have plowed through the respective discographies of Michigan/Australian bands you know and love, sure, but these guys have found their own voice in a shockingly brief matter of time. Simply put, they've fashioned an instant rock classic... there might be a handful of bands in America with this kind of confidence, but in most other instances it's unwarranted. They don't possess Richard Rose's intellect, instrumental prowess, musical range or sense of purpose. Finally, I will not insult your intelligence by claiming Richard Rose scale these lofty heights without artifice. That they insist on performing under dubious pseudonyms (Laurence and Thomas are joined by bassist Bag Mantrellis, drummer Jerry Leymar and saxophonist Gravy McKay) might give traditionalists pause, but it's worth remembering our legal system would not function properly without a witness protection program. The modern histories of music and art would also not have unfolded so spectacularly if practitioners weren't brave enough to redefine themselves, and we're beyond fortune to bear witness to this furious five making the music of their lives." --Gerard Cosloy

All in a semi-acoustic mode. Color vinyl."After years of hard rocking, the band finally unplugged in 1995 with And Other Crimes, for the German Glitterhouse label. This live-in-the studio date is filled with smarter-than-bar-band covers, each one given a half-reverent, half-sneering spin. And if rollicking, slide-guitar-tinged treatments of Gene Clark's 'Out on the Side' or Kinky Friedman's 'Sold American' aren't twisted enough, check the downwardly mobile originals 'Got It Made' and 'Waste of Time' to hear just how closely the band's sense of rebellion mirrors that of anti-heroes Hank Williams Jr. and Lee Hazlewood." --Tom Moon (Rolling Stone/New York Times)

SUMMER OF SEVENTEEN Summer Of Seventeen LP
Summer Of Seventeen are Monika Khot (Nordra, Zen Mother), William Fowler Collins, Daniel Menche, Faith Coloccia (Mamiffer), and Aaron Turner (Sumac, Split Cranium). LP version comes on 180 gram vinyl; includes download code."Wildfires plagued Washington state during the summer of 2017, their smoke drifting westward toward the Seattle area and toxifying the air. Shortly before that trauma, Monika Khot, William Fowler Collins, Daniel Menche, Faith Coloccia, and Aaron Turner had gathered at the latter two musicians' House Of Low Culture studio on idyllic Vashon Island with revered producer Randall Dunn. There they cut eight songs that capture the makeshift band's feelings of what Coloccia calls 'a kind of doomsday lurking in the background.' It's as if these highly attuned players had a premonition. Summer Of Seventeen -- which was edited and arranged by Monika Khot, is a nuanced admixture of these musicians' sounds and a culmination of all of their previous collaborations. Coloccia and Turner have created eldritch folk and chamber rock for over a decade in Mamiffer while engaging in various solo and group projects that explore their profound spirituality in sound. Menche has been a fixture on the abstract composition scene for 31 years and Collins is a savvy explorer of drone and ambient forms. Their ephemeral summit meeting has yielded a masterwork for the ages. A heaven/hell and beauty/beastliness dichotomy pervades the album -- as if a titanic struggle was transpiring in that small studio. The fearsome trumpet fanfare that starts 'Chorus Of The Innocents' heralds a baleful fate. With a subliminal industrial rhythm bristling beneath the eerie exhalations, the song submerges us in a slow-motion maelstrom, a horror-film facsimile of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew. 'Perceived Slight' threads death-metal screams through a stark, suspenseful atmosphere, with austere glints of guitar and beats like fists on a casket lid intensifying the dread. Angelic chants and celestial drones perfume the air in several of the songs on Summer Of Seventeen, countered with muted blast beats, serrated hums, jagged glitches, simulacra of grinding gears and lightning. It's as if no good deed goes unpunished. 'Spirits Of Redeemer' could be an elegy for the human race while 'Cultural Orphan' sounds like a symphony for a malfunctioning factory. The album ends with 'Theatre Needs An Audience,' a harrowing ballad somewhere between Einstürzende Neubauten and Merzbow; it's a savage rent in the space-time continuum..." --Dave Segal, April 2020

VLADISLAV DELAY Multila (2020 Remaster) 2LP
Repressed. Multila was the third album by Finnish producer Sasu Ripatti under the moniker Vladislav Delay. It compiles the Huone and Ranta 12" EPs Ripatti released on Basic Channel's Chain Reaction label in 1999 and 2000. The album features six hauntingly murky dub ambient tracks and the impressive 22-minute techno odyssey "Huone". 20 years after its original release as a full-length CD album (Chain Reaction), these timeless recordings of modern electronic music are now finally available for the first time as a double-vinyl edition. The label Keplar has been on a long hiatus and is now back with its KeplarRev series presenting vinyl re-issues of essential electronic albums from the '90s and '00s, as well as new recordings by momentous electronic and ambient artists. Drawings by Kaisa Kemikoski; Layout by Marco Ciceri. Remaster by Rashad Becker and vinyl cut by Kassian Troyer at Dubplates & Mastering. Includes download code."Life films us exactly. Our experience of it, though, lies beyond images and descriptions. Emotions, coming in irrational flashes, are non-figurable. We lose our little connection to them very quickly. We look for forms which promise to take us to our own experience. We construct forms with this in mind: that they can take us to meet the subconscious. Multila's construction is principled this way. Fragments of experience, moments without definition or localization are captured within tiny fragments of time and then within one's mind space. We can look into it and see that experience has left some of its data to us. As we receive it, again and again, we are connected and reconnected to certain indefinable moments. Both during and after its recording, Multila is a tool to learn about the unintentional states of us. It is a way to see our own emotional loops. Multila is a soundtrack for vision." --Vladislav Delay (2000)

LAKE TURNER Videosphere LP
Videosphere, the debut album by the London-based artist Lake Turner (aka Andrew Halford), swoons into focus with "The Sunbird", a teasing drift of lilting, ambient tones, riding out a submerged piston-pulse rhythm. Across its brief 109 seconds, it manages to traverse evocative terrain --something mythopoetic, something both humble and grandiose, a glimpse of the other behind the sky's curtain. It's both sky-bound and earthen, a ritual incantation to call in the music of the spheres. Turner was introduced to the Kompakt family by his sometime collaborator Yannis Philippakis of Foals. He'd previously made music in post-punk and indie groups Great Eskimo Hoax and Trophy Wife, but Videosphere is the first time he's fully articulated his own vision of electronic music, aside from one limited lathe-cut 12", 2018's Prime Mover EP, on Algebra. The lush ambient-disco-techno dreams of Videosphere were constructed and completed in his London studio and at his parents' arable and sheep farm in Worcestershire, which might help explain the hazy, unhurried pastoralism of the album. A student of archaeology and ancient history, Turner is no doubt carefully attuned to the twisting cogs of history and memory, and it's no surprise that Videosphere has a nostalgic, melancholic cast; much of its beauty rests in the way it tugs, gently, at the heart strings. It's not all drift-dream hypnosis, though -- Videosphere is very much grounded in the now. "'No Way Back Forever' is a nod to the linear nature of time," Turner explains by way of example, "and the tipping point of the world climate crisis that scientists have now declared." Jayne Powell's vocals are sent spinning through the song, wound like candyfloss; she takes center stage on the techno hymnal title track, too. Throughout, there's a sense of forward movement, despite the life stasis we find ourselves collectively bound by in mid-2020; there's also a yearning for the communal, for community, that's captured in the album title, a nod to an object Turner encountered at London's Geoffrey Museum, "a television set in the shape of a spaceman's helmet from the 1970s." "The vision I loosely had was to make an electronic record that had a communal warmth and almost ceremonial or ritual feel. I wanted to examine the relationship of our archaic minds in the trappings of the modern world," Turner concludes. "What the Videosphere also symbolizes for me is the oneness of humanity and community, prevailing."

WHOMADEWHO Synchronicity CD
Kompakt welcomes back Copenhagen's WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod's penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg's respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying. Though they have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length Brighter (KOM 254LP/KOMP 097CD, 2012), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full-lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate's series (WG 026CD), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations. Synchronicity is all about "meaningful coincidences" -- bringing interpretation to bear on connections that have no actual causal relationship. It's a canny concept to pin onto Copenhagen trio WhoMadeWho's latest album, which sees them return to Kompakt for the first time since 2012's Brighter. On Synchronicity, WhoMadeWho call on friends old and new: Michael Mayer, Echonomist, Adana Twins, Alex Boman, Robag Wruhme, Frank Wiedemann, Sainte Vie, Mano Le Tough, Marc Piñol, Rebolledo, and Perel is the cast list; WhoMadeWho direct the material, shaping it into one lovingly flowing gem of dance-pop glory. There's something particularly generous about hearing an album as all-inclusive and open-hearted as Synchronicity in the midst of the profound social and cultural shifts everyone is currently experiencing. While some songs on Synchronicity were recorded together, in real time, such as the collaborations with Adana Twins and Rebolledo, most of them have taken place via long distance, thanks to the pandemic lockdown. But you don't need to know who was where to understand either the magnesium-flare melancholy of "Sooner", recorded with Piñol, which has you holding your breath with the gentle thrill of the song's lush melody, or the stomping strut of the following Adana Twins collaboration, "Shadow Of Doubt". Elsewhere, there's the stentorian robot voice at the heart of "Hamstring", where they're joined by Michael Mayer; the lustrous headsoak of "Twenty Tears", a tender intervention by Rebolledo; the strip-light, slow-motion disco strut of "Cecil", produced alongside Echonomist; or the glittering, arpeggio dreamwork that Perel helps sculpt into shape on "Der Abend Birgt Keine Ruh". From pop revelations to dancefloor delirium to slow-burning brooders, Synchronicity is a space for the joys of the unexpected to collide.

VA Pop Ambient 2021 CD
It's 2020, the year Pop Ambient turns twenty-one years old, a spritely young adult waltzing out of its teenage joys and tears. Pop Ambient has always stood for a certain classicism and elegance, a kind of beatless music that's diaphanous and hazy, gossamer and glittering. For twenty-one years, Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt has curated a series of peerless compilations that repeatedly find refreshing answers to a simple question: What happens when the dancefloor is empty, and everyone's home to drift away? As with many other Pop Ambient compilations, Pop Ambient 2021 offers a welcome platform to contributions from both old friends and new faces. It opens with the gorgeous, slo-mo drift of "Of A Vessel", from new Kompakt signings Blank Gloss. Sending their music out into the world from their home in Sacramento, this duo makes music that's featherlight and luscious, the muted chime of a guitar over here, the steady hum of a halatial drone. Neozaïre and Seventh World are two additional new voices, the latter closing Pop Ambient 2021 with a long, lambent dreamsong, Neozaïre offering two gaseous, morphing driftworks, "In Verschwenderischer Fülle" etched across with bell-like arpeggios. Pop Ambient has always felt like a field for play for the Kompakt cognoscenti, and 2021 is no different, with Joachim Spieth collaborating with Pepo Galán on the sidereal visions of "Libration", while Leandro Fresco teams up with Thore Pfeiffer on the lovely "Abejorro". Pfeiffer also contributes two lovely solo miniatures of abstract longing. Yui Onodera calls in again, long distance, for their fourth Pop Ambient running, with the refracted, glinting lightscapes of "Cromo 5" and "Monochrome", while there are also star turns from Max Würden, both solo and in Reich & Würden, and Morgen Wurde, who drops by with the "ethereal drama" of "Mittsommer". Pop Ambient gets the balance right: visions and soundscapes, long-distance communications and intimate asides, sweetness and light, drama and dreaming, all wrapped up in floral abstractions -- a most beautiful distraction.CD version features Blank Gloss, Yui Onodera, Thore Pfeiffer, Morgen Wurde, Reich & Würden, Neozaïre, Joachim Spieth & Pepo Galán, Max Würden, Leandro Fresco & Thore Pfeiffer, and Seventh World.

ROXANNE, ANA Because Of A Flower LP
LP version. "The sublime songs comprising Los Angeles-based musician Ana Roxanne's second record, Because Of A Flower, germinated gradually across five years, inspired by interwoven notions of gender identity, beauty, and cruelty. She describes her process as beginning with 'a drone element and a mood,' then intuiting melody, syllables, and lyrics incrementally, like sacred shapes materializing from mist. The experience of identifying as intersex informs the album on levels both sonic and thematic, from spoken word texts borrowed from tonal harmony textbooks to cinematic dialogue samples and castrati aria allusions. It's an appropriately interstitial vision of ambient songcraft, a chemistry of wisps and whispers, sanctuary and sorrow, conjured through a fragile balance of voice, bass, space, and texture. Despite a background studying at the prestigious Mills College in Oakland, Roxanne's music rarely feels conceptual, instead radiating an immediate and emotive aura, rooted in the present tense of her personal journey. She speaks of the flower in the title as a body, singular and sunlit, as many petals as thorns, an enigma beholden only to itself. But whether taken as surface or subtext, Because Of A Flower is a transfixing document of a rare artist in the spring of their ascension."

CIANI, SUZANNE A Sonic Womb: Live Buchla Performance at Lapsus LP
Suzanne Ciani is a true electronic music pioneer. The five Grammy nominated Italian-American neoclassical composer is unquestionably one of the greatest minds that contemporary music has ever witnessed. After an incredible career spanning forty years, Ciani's accomplishments have become a benchmark when discussing the origins of musical synthesis. For more than four decades she developed a body of work that transcends the music industry, composing for film, video games, and famous advertising campaigns that have impacted popular culture. On December 14, 2019, after six years of sound experimentation, Lapsus Festival bid farewell to Barcelona's Centre for Contemporary Culture. Its final event was entitled "A Sonic Womb" and was dedicated to the musical roots of the synthesizer, with Suzanne Ciani headlining on the night. Ciani performed an exclusive show accompanied by her modular Buchla 200e synthesizer and enveloped in a specially designed multi-channel sound environment by Intorno Labs. It was a sonic voyage to the very heart of her beloved machine and a tribute to improvisation through an instrument that is said to possess its own soul. Suzanne described the night as "an improvisation that I began using in the '70s and continue to use now as raw material. Each performance based on this material has its own expression and one could liken it to jazz." Lapsus Records present A Sonic Womb: Live Buchla Performance at Lapsus, a unique live recording of this extra special concert.

GOLDMANN, STEFAN Live At Philharmonie Berlin CD
In February 2020, the Philharmonie Berlin opened its gates for the first time in its history for a fully blown electronic music program. Strom Festival continued for two days across three of the Berlin landmark's jagged spaces. Stefan Goldmann had been invited to serve as the festival's artist-curator and also performed its inaugural concert in the building's pentagonal Grand Hall. As much as this event was without precedent for one of the world's leading classical music institutions, it is also an uncannily typical match for Goldmann's rather unusual career path. Though nominally techno, his music is distinguished by an ever-imaginative take on the form. From exploring asymmetric rhythms to designing novel tuning systems to re-imagining the technological base of electronic music -- few have looked further beyond the genre's functional foundations. Respectively, his music keeps appearing in contexts far removed from techno's club institutions -- featuring work with ensembles, dance companies, film makers and his own opera, as well as site-specific performances at venues such as Kyoto's Honen-In Temple and LA's LACMA museum. Live At Philharmonie Berlin is closely tailored to the Grand Hall, featuring a wealth of material specifically developed to engage its architecture and acoustics. Apart from being a document that brilliantly captures the Philharmonie's aural footprint with clear-cut synthetic probes, it also comes close to being a retrospective of Goldmann's most striking formal ideas. Harking back to his early use of wavetable synthesis for highly liquid units of pitch, timbre, and dynamics, his recent recontextualizations of industrial preset sounds and gradual shades of distortion fuse to shape the soundscape of the one-hour performance. These sounds then swirl through shifting microtonal grids and freewheeling polyrhythms, solidifying into alien melodies, spiky transients and blocks of colored noise.

COUTINHO E O GRUPO STALO, GUILHERME Guilherme Coutinho E O Grupo Stalo LP
Mad About Records present the first worldwide reissue of Guilherme Coutinho E O Grupo Stalo's self-titled album, originally released in 1978. Guilherme Coutinho started playing at the age of five and, at the age of seventeen, he was already part of Os Mocorongos and Os Iguanos, both as an amateur. But he soon became a group leader, playing in several nightclubs in Belém (Pará), until he settled in the Paraense Assembly, where he lived for more than 15 years. He was a musician who played for high society, he was a businessman who had the best instruments, besides always making his own arrangement for the songs. His favorite formation was piano, bass, and drums, as well as a singer. But, for some time, he even used a recorder as playback to give greater sound texture. The first performance was at Pinheirense in Icoaraci. The 1970s were at the height of the clubs in Belém, such as the Tuna, Yacht Club, and the Paraense Assembly. At the carnival, there was Guilherme at the head of his group, with rhythmists and a brass section, playing not only the greatest hits but supporting local composers. He was the musical director of Leila Pinheiro's first professional show, at Teatro da Paz. In his career, he released three albums: Guilherme Coutinho and Curtição, Busca-se, and Guilherme Coutinho and Grupo Stalo. Guilherme's last two shows took place on Friday, August 19, 1983, at the Theatro da Paz, through the Pixinguinha Project, and at the old Gemini Blues nightclub. On the morning of Saturday, August 20, Guilherme Coutinho died of a heart attack. Guilherme Coutinho E O Grupo Stalo was released on the Erla, an obscure Brazilian label, which curiously pressed only 7" singles, but this Guilherme Coutinho album is an exception. An LP that became one of the most sought after in Brazilian music. It was generating a cult for sound innovation, a kind of lo-fi tropicalism. One of the most sought-after records in Brazil and one of country's best-kept secrets. Deluxe limited edition with obi; numbered.

Preciously selected by the expert ears of Frank Brinkhuis, head of Trumpett, Universo spans from 1982 to 1988 through their entire discography. Doxa Sinistra was formed in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, early 1982. On the strength of live performances at Paradiso and Ultra venue Oktopus, the two-piece band was invited by Trumpett to record an album in the Freakowitz & Einstein Studio in Den Burg on Texel. Armed with their Korg MS-10 and Korg MS-20 synths they took the ferry to the West Frisian island, and spent a week recording in the legendary Trumpett HQ. The result, the debut cassette Via Del Latte, was released in June 1982. Just months later band member R. K. kidnapped the band name, formed a new duo and played one live date. After that the project fizzled out. Until early 1984, when Trumpett and Doxa Sinistra received an invitation from Italian cassette label ADN to record a new album. The invitation was accepted and Doxa Sinistra Mark II was born. Conveyer Belt, recorded between June 1984 and February 1985, appeared as an ADN/Trumpett co-release in August 1985. After the move of the Trumpett Studios to Amsterdam late 1986, Doxa Sinistra started demoing a new album in the Summer of 1987. California based underground cassette label, Ladd-Frith, were keen to release the ultimate results. Basking Sharks are one of the unsung heroes of the original minimal/synth-pop/wave era. On stage they always played "live" without the use of backing tracks. Their stage act included a slide show, films, and computer visuals synced into the stage performance. Their music merged electronic pop with European influences and experimentation. During their existence, they toured extensively throughout the UK, did a session with John Peel and produced a single, an EP, and an LP plus numerous videos and live recordings. Includes liner notes by Manuel Göttsching, archival photos, and an excerpt of David Elliott's review in Sounds from June 16, 1984."As the story is sometimes told, Göttsching stopped in the studio for a couple of hours in 1981 and invented techno. E2-E4 is the most compelling argument that techno came from Germany-- more so than any single Kraftwerk album, anyway. The sleeve credits the former Ash Ra Tempel leader with 'guitar and electronics', but few could stretch that meager toolkit like Göttsching. Over a heavenly two-chord synth vamp and simple sequenced drum and bass, Göttsching's played his guitar like a percussion instrument, creating music that defines the word 'hypnotic' over the sixty minutes . . . A key piece in the electronic music puzzle that's been name-checked, reworked and expanded upon countless times." --Mark Richardson, Pitchfork

ANDERSENS There Is A Sound CD
There Is A Sound is a compilation of blissed-out psych-folk songs by Andersens, a Japanese independent pop group who were led by Tsuby, aka Kiyokazu Onozaki, and were active throughout the '00s. A lovely set of intimate revelations, with some widescreen, bold pop moments, dreamy guitars meeting brass, electronics and sitar, it's really the first time listeners outside of Japan have had the chance to take in the full spread of Andersens and their gentle pop songs. Released on the heels Morr Music's Minna Miteru compilation of Japanese indie pop (MORR 168CD/LP), There Is A Sound is the first in a series of artist compilations that dig deeper into Japan's musical underground. Co-compiled by Tsuby and Markus Acher (The Notwist, Spirit Fest), the collection sheds much-needed light on a unique songwriter, one part of a vital and energetic scene that is largely unrepresented outside of Japan. Tsuby is a naturally gifted songwriter, his melodic sensibility draws equally from predecessors like Syd Barrett and The Beatles, and peers like Tenniscoats and Maher Shalal Hash Baz. Indeed, groups like Maher Shalal Hash Baz, and Tenniscoats precursors Puka Puka Brians were very important to Tsuby. Inviting Puka Puka Brians to play at his very first gig, Tsuby quickly found himself to be part of a scene of like-minded souls, where expression and experiment was paramount, within the framework of gorgeous, fragile pop melodies. That being said, Andersens music is also fiercely individual, an expression of Tsuby's quietly questing personality. You can hear it on the playful groove that marks out "The Light It Turns To Rain...", through the rolling country-folk vibe of "Atom/Spirit", the spiraling pop-psychedelia and playful electronics and sitar of "Empty Love", to the breathy glitches of "Swan". Throughout, Tsuby takes risks with his songs, looking at them sideways, finding new angles on arrangement and embellishment, while staying true to his core sensibility. There Is A Sound draws from Andersens' four albums: Between Static & Fire (2003); Prepared Landscape (2004); Gzi Gzi Gzeo (2007), and Musiquestions (2008). One song, "Dodesukaden", reaches further back, to their debut CD-R, A Rooftop In "S" Thunderstorm Row Missing The Point (2002). Presented this way, the gentle developments in Andersens music become clear -- a folksier touch here, some electronics or wind instruments there, perhaps the influence of chindon'ya in the brass arrangements. CD version includes 24-page booklet; edition of 500.

GATTO, VITO Evolve LP
Evolve is the first full-length album from composer, music producer, and violinist Vito Gatto, a concept album that guides the listener on a one-way journey through the various phases of an imaginary evolutionary process. Gatto graduated in Violin from the Milan Conservatory of Music, his research starts from the unconventional application of a classical background into both making music in the studio, and live performances. For this work, Vito decided to put himself in a restricted composing and technical environment; all the arpeggiated sounds on the album are made from one single violin note that Vito sampled. He transforms the same note throughout the entire album, using the different treatment of this micro sample and the arpeggiator programming as the construction of a mutating and evolving structure. The album is Instinctively executed, almost improvised, and elements like distorted bass lines, hardcore inspired percussions, whistles, and alienating string melodies represent unexpected alterations. Vito decided to keep these instinctive additions clean from excessive control as a representation of the beauty of the unpredictable. The album track list is an expression of evolutionary phases. From the minimalistic piano piece "Decomposition" to "Quiete" which expresses the state of calm after a shift has occurred, "Nostalgia" and "Stasi" represent a hazy trance like state. Vito challenges the listener to ask questions like "am I in the right place? Is this who I set out to become? Do I have to keep evolving, or should I try to regress?" Evolve creates continuous connections between traditional and experimental music, creating dialogue between classical instruments and industrial techno, ambient, noise, and de-constructed sounds. NeMu is a new label founded by Vito Gatto himself. The label will focus on experimental projects based on the exchange between acoustic, concrete, and electronic sources. The artwork is part of Jewels, a series of ceramic sculptures by Benni Bosetto, courtesy of the artist and ADA Project, Rome.

SOTE Moscels LP
What were the skies like when you were young? These days, asking that question likely conjures disappointment in its answer. Dreams of possibility hardened by certainty. Hopes and prayers jet-cooled to brittle acquiescence. A lingering feeling that this is not what we asked for, not what we worked towards. Promises of the future replaced by sins of the father. It is in this particular light that the latest work, Moscels, by Iranian artist and musician Ata Ebtekar, also known as Sote, arrives on Opal Tapes, British label for the sonically curious and aurally disaffected. Contrary to potential expectation, it features no rhythmic exhortations, no colloidal outbursts, and no acoustic instrumentation of any kind. Synthesized entirely from physical models and oscillators, whose union gives the record its name, Moscels is a haunting, beautiful, and auspicious listen. None of Ebtekar's work comes necessarily easy to the listener, but Moscels is suffused with a sense of wonder almost childlike in quality, and so it beckons kindly.

FOLK DEVILS Forever EP 10"
The three-track Forever EP features two new compositions, the title track "Forever" and "My Slum Soul", plus an incendiary new version of an old live favorite "Ink Runs Dry". Folk Devils, the London group that took their name from a well-known academic text on social scapegoating, and who blazed a trail across the UK's independent music scene of the mid-80s with their unique brand of post-punk energy, have returned with their first new music in 35 years. Recorded at London's famous Konk Studios in North London and mixed and co-produced by Grammy Award-winning engineer Rik Simpson, the re-born Folk Devils drew inspiration from the release of their 2016 career retrospective Beautiful Monsters (2016) and the reactions at subsequent live shows around the UK with kindred spirits Membranes, Inca Babies, and The Cravats. Founder members, guitarist Kris Jozajtis and bassist Mark Whiteley, reformed the group by recruiting members of a short-lived 1987 version of Folk Devils; guitarist Nick Clift and drummer John Hamilton. Together, with singer Dave Hodgson, they soon discovered they had created a well-oiled twin-guitar juggernaut that brimmed with the same restless, twisted blues that characterized the first and second iterations of the band from 1983-87 when they were fronted by the highly underrated and now sadly-departed singer/songwriter, Ian Lowery. Hodgson, a fellow transplant from the North-East, had known Lowery in the early '80s prior to Folk Devils, when the two were in their respective post-punk bands Ski Patrol and Parting Shots. LIGHTSEY AND RUDOLPH JOHNSON WITH THE ALL STARS, KIRK Habiba LP
Never released outside South Africa since its original release in 1974, Outernational Sounds presents one of the most sought-after international jazz exclusives ever to appear on South Africa's famous Gallo imprint: the funky, spiritual and outward bound Habiba. Limited, fully licensed vinyl reissue of a lost modal classic by renowned pianist Kirk Lightsey and Black Jazz stalwart Rudolph Johnson. As the archives of South Africa's premier record labels steadily give up the treasures that were hidden in the darkness of the apartheid era, the incredible heritage of South African jazz is gradually finding an international audience. And while most of the laurels are naturally for South Africa's own overlooked musicians, the South African discography contains a few sparkling, nearly unknown jazz sessions by visiting players. Habiba is the greatest of them -- a raw, impassioned set led by bop pianist Kirk Lightsey, who had been a regular sideman for Chet Baker and Sonny Stitt, and saxophonist Rudolph Johnson, a key player at the storied West Coast indie Black Jazz. Visits to the apartheid state by respected Black musicians were hardly a common occurrence during apartheid's darkest years -- so how did a crew of crack American jazz players end up in the Gallo studios? The story starts with the now almost forgotten crooner, Lovelace Watkins. Sometimes billed as "the Black Sinatra", the Detroit-born Watkins sang standards, show tunes and ballroom classics on the Las Vegas circuit. In his 1970s heyday he was a huge star in the UK and in southern Africa, where he toured regularly. In 1974 he hired a jazz big band to accompany him on a tour of South Africa -- and among their number were Lightsey and Johnson, as well as Mastersounds bassist Monk Montgomery, West Coast trombonist Al Hall Jr., and Marshall Royal, musical director of the Count Basie band. The tour was a huge success, and during downtime from performing, members of Watkin's group independently record no fewer than three albums. Two of these LPs appeared on the IRC label, billed as the Mallory-Hall Band -- the third, on the more prestigious Gallo, was Habiba. Three tracks deep, the album is a heavy-duty excursion into post-Coltrane spiritual modernism, ranging from the modal, cerebral intensity of the side-long title track "Habiba", to the downhome breakbeat groove of "There It Is", and the dark glitter of minor key waltz "Fresh Air". Long one of the most desired global jazz LPs, and never before available outside South Africa, Habiba is a forgotten masterpiece of its era.

GENTLE FIRE Explorations (1970-1973) 3CD
Gentle Fire were a six-, then five-member group of composers/improvisers/performers based in London and Yorkshire. Most of the writings that cover the pioneers of experimental, electronic, and improvised music have given them scant attention. In addition to this, their recorded output is slim, the main item being an out-of-print LP, featuring their interpretations of graphic scores by Cage, Earle Brown, and Christian Wolff. Most of the existing Gentle Fire archive was kept privately by Hugh Davies. After Hugh died in 2005, it was shared between various institutions. This release owes much to Hugh's meticulous record keeping as well as the archives at the British Library and Special Collections at Goldsmiths, University of London. Listening sessions at the British Library were a revelation, it was like discovering a missing link in the evolution of experimental music, but above all it sounded so undated and fresh. The release is divided into three sections. The first CD, recorded between 1970 and 1971 contains four studio and two concert recordings of graphic and text scores: two parts of Stockhausen's Aus den sieben Tagen, and one piece each by Earle Brown, John Cage, Toshi Ichiyanagi, and Christian Wolff. Gentle Fire were active between 1968 and 1974 and were especially active during the early '70s, appearing at numerous European avant-garde festivals. They even ended up in Iran playing in Stockhausen's Sternklang, and improvising at dawn at Hafez's tomb. The second and third CDs focus on their own works; disc two dates from 1973 and was recorded during a two-day residency at Radio Bremen. The five pieces on this disc cover a wide variety of styles and include a 23-minute version of "Group Composition VI" which is their only text-based piece and uses processed and filtered speech. Disc three is a recording of their appearance at ICES 72, a legendary festival that took place at the Roundhouse in London. Over the course of two chaotic weeks a vast number of the world's experimental musicians took to the stage. Miraculously, the whole of the Gentle Fire concert has been preserved. It consists of a performance of their "Group Composition IV", centered around a large metal sculpture that all members of the group could play at the same time. The piece actually had its première the previous year on the original pyramid stage at the first Glastonbury Fair. There are several photos of the event included in the booklet that accompanies the CDs. 48-page booklet; edition of 500 (numbered).

Y BULBUL Fever LP
When Yi?it Bülbül knocked on Pingipung's door and put his debut album on the table, Fever took the label's heart in a storm. The Turkish born, London based musician and producer knows how to craft his own contemporary avant-garde pop projections with a rich musical heritage shining through from the 1980s and '90s. His style erupts into silly, absurd moments of synth blurps, percussive extravaganza and psyched horns; it's always colorful and trippy, but in a light way. It's exactly what you want to release in a year of distress. The album is framed by two contemplative tracks, which are reminiscent of Holger Czukay's oeuvre. The saxophone in the opening track "The Heath" undulates like an introvert leading voice in a meditation. The long and meticulously crafted ambient outro "Txalaparta" features a spoken word sample by the Basque folk musician Txomin Artola from 1978. The four tracks at the heart of the album are beat driven, percussion-heavy, loaded with synths and random horn samples. "Alo?" sounds like Snakefinger tries to get on a Skype call with Serge Gainsbourg. "Cacti All Over My Head" could well be a Ween instrumental with long arching synth lines over a slowed down bossa nova beat. Fever is a frivolous album which bursts with exalted charm and guest musicians. This is not another greetings-from-the-lockdown album, but with the obvious reference in the title it's almost a tongue-in-cheek name about creative obsessions of our times. It's the debut album by the multi-instrumentalist Y Bülbül who has learned his trade working with various interesting artists and bands in London in the past ten years. He is also a passionate crate digger and DJ. His own radio show is unerringly titled "Bülbül's Gemüsement Park", which airs on Netil Radio, a community broadcasting station in Hackney. Bonus fact, Bülbül is the Turkish name for a brown-eared passerine bird, one that's into singing.

MIRWAIS 2016 - My Generation (Single) 12"
A momentous comeback for Mirwais, two decades on from his classic Production (2000). It all started in 2016 with an idea Mirwais had for a music video to promote his upcoming single "2016 - My Generation". The idea led Mirwais and co-founder of graphic design studio H5/creator of the Oscar-winning "Logorama" animated short Ludovic Houplain to work together on a fascinating ten-minute short entitled "My Generation". Since its 2017 release, the film My Generation, produced and scored almost liturgically by Mirwais, made the rounds of festivals, winning several prizes worldwide. It presents itself as a backwards travelling shot during which all of our pop culture moment's gimmicks collide at 100 km/h: sex, the net, art, politics, sports, stocks, big pharma and big porno -- from Hitler's speeches to Trump's contemporary analogues. Flash forward to 2020, and it is this very six-minute pop-litical critique of our era's societal excesses that Mirwais chose as the music video for his new single "2016 - My Generation", set to be released during the coming fall's American presidential election. A sonic deflagration that heralds a new album from one of Madonna's most iconic collaborators, succeeding, two decades later, the now-classic Production. A punchy, percussive single poised between hard techno and electronic disco, sprinkled with choirs and distorted, psychedelic synths "2016 - My Generation" is a dancefloor-ready opus bearing Mirwais' inimitable signature. This way of mixing genres, of conjugating past and future, and of making pop experimental and vice-versa, cements Mirwais' reputation as one of times' most singular composers. One-sided green color vinyl.

VIGROUX, FRANCK Ballades Sur Lac Gele CD
Raster met Franck Vigroux for the first time years ago at Berlin's Berghain during a soundcheck. At that time, he performed with Mika Vainio, with whom Vigroux often worked together. The first track on Ballades Sur Lac Gelé dates back to that time. It was created under the impression of this collaboration and friendship with Mika Vainio. This album is dedicated to him. Vainio's oeuvre is also significant in connection with the history of Raster, so it was only logical and the label's wish to release this album by Franck Vigroux. With the beginning of the corona pandemic, Franck Vigroux took up this early material again, he continued to formulate it and completed the present album Ballades Sur Lac Gelé. The title already defines the theme of the ballad, a "song/poem with very minimal structures" (quote from Vigroux). Ballade is also a play on words with the French word "balade", in this sense a ramble, a ramble over a frozen lake. The reduced, cool structures reflect this. But at the same time, under the surface, the oft-distorted sound carpets steadily increase to immense power. Like ice that grows and tectonic forces that have to erupt, glacier-like. Vigroux is very skilled at creating music in this minimalist setting. The intertwining of very few musical elements creates a kind of soundtrack that is multi-layered and at the same time universally intelligible.

KYE, DAN Small Moments 2LP
Dan Kye is the mysteriously evoked moniker from multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocal sensation Jordan Rakei. The New Zealand-born artist -- who now resides in London -- presents his first long-player from Dan Kye, Small Moments, on Bradley Zero's Rhythm Section INTL. An ode to the dancefloor, the musical project was born out of Jordan's lockdown experience, created from the comfort of his own home. Recorded with just a laptop, extra live instruments and guest musicians, Small Moments seamlessly transcends across electronica, jazz and funk, with each genre being effortlessly fused with Jordan's melancholy vocals. Allowing himself to push the boundaries, Jordan's Dan Kye moniker draws on the energetic and uplifting elements of house and techno and perfectly mixes it with the sultry vocals and emotion that come with the live elements from Jordan Rakei. The record offers listeners a journey through more floor-heavy tracks such as "Mogeri" and "Raro" to more groove infused offerings such as "Rainbow Road", whilst tracks, like "Sober", take on a more lyrical and anthemic feel. After meeting Bradley Zero online whilst living in Australia, Jordan eventually moved to London in 2014. The same day he landed, he went straight to a Rhythm Section party to meet Bradley, and it was here that he first got a taste for house music. He enjoyed Rhythm Section INTL's ability to draw on both live and electronic talent; and thus, after Bradley asked him for some productions for the parties, the idea for Dan Kye was born. Small Moments is a musical masterpiece that can be enjoyed as much on the dancefloor as it can in the comfort of your own home and is a perfect step into Jordan's landscape and idealism of dance orientated music.

AZZARO, ROMAIN La Vita Non E Un Film 2LP
La Vita Non E Un Film is the first studio album produced by multi-instrumentalist Rouge Mécanique under his real name: Romain Azzaro. Conceived as the soundtrack of an imaginary film, this collection of music pieces composed between 2007 and 2020 presents his very own interpretation of rock, blues, classical, ambient, and electronic music. The story begins with "Vvoid", composed on a rainy night with Myako in Berlin, a powerful and cinematic track. Then, his alter ego Rouge Mécanique takes over with "Prelude", "Channel 5", and "Who Knows About This One?" showing his signature style of electro-fueled rock. In the middle of this journey, tracks like "Crewhassan", "Cousu De Fil Blanc", and "Ballet Jelinox" show the more experimental side of his music, and work produced for film scores. This leads us to the 12-minute jam "Above Space 35", a trippy tribute to the krautrock scene he loves, featuring Jason Bakker, and sounds like a lost recording of Pink Floyd's blues-iest inspirations. The story ends on a more nostalgic note, with the soft groove of "Sea Sex And Salt" and the gorgeous acoustic guitar solo on "Green Line".

NEGATIVLAND The World Will Decide 2LP
Double LP version. "Negativland's mirror image sequel to last year's True False, The World Will Decide turns the focus away from the very human inability to accurately define reality, and towards the technologies being built to do a better job at it. But if sorting true from false seemed like a full-time job back when all one had to keep track of was one's own mind, life alongside the machines built to connect everyone only seems to multiply the uncertainties. On The World Will Decide, those uncertainties are made almost deliriously danceable: a netweb of densely sampled voices melting speech back down into music and back again, into what everyone can agree are the real questions -- did that firefly really land on your finger? Would you like to be arrested? Does this app connect you to people, or replace them? Is this post an example of inauthentic behavior? Do people have to die? Or, as one of the many sampled voices on this work assures the listener: we can really feel like we're here."

ROSENFELD, MARINA Deathstar 2LP
Since 2017, Deathstar has been a project about the microphone -- in Marina Rosenfeld's hands, a void, a mirror, an unruly instrument of transformation and mediation. This music is heard in traces, through thickly amplified silences punctuated by momentary eruptions of noise or a voice at the threshold of intelligibility. The sculpture at the center of the action -- a plexiglas orb housing a seven-microphone array originally installed as part of an exhibition the artist mounted at Portikus, in Frankfurt Germany -- performs a recursive operation, listening to and recirculating sounds continuously morphed by feedback and reflection. This machine music repeats itself in seemingly endless versions, abstractly and in an evolving relationship to the grammars of reproduction and performance, presence, absence, and accumulation. Later, recorded traces of this installation rendered as musical notation produce a series of events -- concerts that explore the outcomes of the acts of amplifying, writing, and listening. The four sides of the album Deathstar follow four such events: first, the installation of the Deathstar in exhibition space; then, a piano performance, also within the Deathstar's machinic environment, of a recording of the installation that Rosenfeld notated on paper; then, her re-notation of these recorded traces in the form of a concerto for piano and chamber orchestra, all aggressively amplified through a wall of guitar amps; and finally, the orchestration's reduction to something like chamber music, with acoustic instruments tasked with the representation of an ever more attenuated body of traces. Throughout, the extraordinary virtuoso pianist Marino Formenti and ensembles MusikFabrik (Cologne) and Yarn/Wire (New York) extract a dazzling variety of sounds from their readings of the work's written and acoustic forms. Deathstar is a complex and monumental work from a composer who has long explored the limits of form as an artist and as a listener.

FREEK FABRICIUS Lost My Controller EP 12"
Besides being a school teacher, a dedicated DJ, a label boss and a party organizer, Utrecht's most famous fluo-raver Freek Fabricius also started producing a few years back. It's hard to believe that Lost My Controller actually is Fabricius's debut EP. So matured and full of character do the six tracks on this release sound. With a touch of vintage electro and the melancholic side of IDM, yet with a unique sound of its own. Lost My Controller has Fabricius' trademark tongue-in-cheek puns, like the videogame frustration in the title track, a sweet hybrid of Dopplereffekt-basslines and AFX-infused melodies. Or on the aptly titled "Pigs Are Here", where a stomping kick and gloomy synth set the pace. Halfway through you suddenly receive a "breaking news message" about an illegal rave somewhere on the shores of northern England, complete with an eye witness report. Images of running ravers immediately pop up. Fabricius does not hide his admiration for Richard D. James on Lost My Controller. On the contrary. He cultivates it and makes it his own. "Aphex Twin is one of the few artists that can make me cry," he once said in an interview. He meant it. Lost My Controller has some beautiful intimate moments, like the sampled rain on his attic window during "Zolderraam" or the rolling closing track "Mother". In which a vintage Underworld-esque beat gently rubs against Laurie Anderson's legs. Freek's EP is joint release between SoHaSo and Marguerita Recordings, the label run by fellow Utrecht dweller Cosmic Force.

FAR OUT RADIO SYSTEMS On Boolean Plains 2LP
Switch on your receiver and tune in to Far Out Radio Systems for another essential transmission. A lengthy one this time, since On Boolean Plains is the debut album of this Belgium production unit. Station master of Far Out Radio Systems is the Genk based producer Thomas Neyens, who keeps a cinemascope view on electronic music and has previously released on the SoHaSo label as Kiani & His Legion. On Boolean Plains takes you back to the IDM hey days of labels like Warp and Skam, back when the Artificial Intelligence-series got praise from electronic music lovers around the globe. Neyens manages to reshape that magic and make it his own, thanks to more than a handful of intricate melodies and the occasional distorted beat. Edgy electronic dance music about a world in distress. It will bring you both comfort and concern. The title track is a melancholic Bola-esque affair, with beautiful gloomy strings, eerie breakbeats and enough space to hide yourself in. But you will also find beautiful ambient bliss ("Beta Ceti"), bleepy techno with a firm nod to Plastikman ("Queen Of The Streets") and soothing percussive house ("Do We Have a Cosmic Connection"), a track that will lure you to that sweet spot on the dancefloor. While Neyens knows his classics, On Boolean Plains is not a retro album. Far from. It's both a personal leap from what was to what will be and an imprint of current affairs. Hence titles like "Theme For The Lockdown" and "Tears in Code". Far Out Radio Systems truly lives up to its name. Strong vibes in every direction.

ORANG-UTAN Orang-Utan LP
2020 repress. Orang-Utan were in fact a London-based band called Hunter, featuring vocalist Terry "Nobby" Clarke (of psych-pop legends Jason Crest), guitar player Mick Clarke, drummer and songwriter Jeff Seopardi and bass player Paul Roberts. They recorded their sole album in 1971 at DeLane Lea studios. In a bizarre twist of events, their producers/managers ran with the tapes to the U.S., where they placed the album on Bell Records under a new band name: Orang-Utan, without telling any of the band members. A lost classic of blazing, early hard rock with minor psychedelic hangover vibes, a twin-guitar attack, and waves of fuzz/wah, along with powerful vocals. Think Leaf Hound, Budgie, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore, Hard Stuff. First-ever legit reissue done in co-operation with the original band members. Includes an insert with rare photos and liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things/Got Kinda Lost), telling the bizarre story of the band for the first time.

THABA Eyes Rest Their Feet LP
Thaba is a collaboration between South African singer/songwriter Khusi Seremane and American producer/musician Gabriel Cyr. Tragically in July 2020, while the two were working with Soundway to prepare the release of their first record, Seremane died a few days past his 41st birthday, after battling health issues for several years. The particular Thaba sound reflects a sonic duality drawing on a double pop heritage of Mbaqanga and Bubblegum artists like The Soul Brothers, Paul Ndlovu, and Pat Shange alongside traces of Roxy Music, Grace Jones, Sade, and Talk Talk that's wrapped up in a modern, electronic, layered, introspective and at times jazz-tinged production style. Brought together by a shared love of kwaito, '90s R&B and classic downtempo, Seremane and Cyr collaborated for a decade after meeting online in the halcyon days of Myspace. While the pair initially planned for Seremane to guest on a Teleseen track, their ideas eventually evolved into an entire record. Their debut, Eyes Rest Their Feet, was created remotely over the course of several years, with the core recorded during a 2016 studio session in Cape Town. After returning to New York, Cyr honed these recordings with several Brooklyn-based musicians, calling upon members of Antibalas, Underground System, Midnight Magic, Loboko, and others. Eyes Rest Their Feet spans genres as well as geography, touching on elements of soul, reggae, synth-pop and beyond, with lyrical themes that explore loneliness and the challenges of human relationships. Eyes Rest Their Feet not only represents the apex of Seremane's work as an artist but also a meditation on the transformative power of love and the impermanence of all things. For fans of: Blood Orange, Young Fathers, Little Dragon, Ntombi Ndaba, Condry Ziqubu, Stimela, Esa Williams, Soundway's Gumba Fire compilation, Soundway's Esa Presents Amandla compilation.

ASTROM, KRISTOFER Hard Times LP
LP version. Kristofer Âström returns to the northern blues with his new album Hard Times, the melancholic Scandinavian version of the Americana genre. For 20 years already Aström embodies the popular Nordic songwriter from Sweden. Following three full band albums (Go, Went, Gone 1998, Leaving Songs and Northern Blues 2001) he began a phase when he concentrated on acoustic solo recordings, as showcased on his EP trilogy from 2003-2006 (Black Valley, Dead End, and There For). Hard Times now is the tenth studio album by the artist and it's a return to his roots. By the way, the album title had already been chosen before the Covid-19 disaster hit the world. It's inspired by a country song by Stephen Foster, "Hard Times Come Again No More". Âström: "Though the music on Hard Times is not country, it certainly has the feeling of it."

BABICZ, ROBERT Utopia 2LP
Double LP version. For Robert Babicz, the sounds produced in the creative process morph into shapes and colors; sonic frequencies become visible objects due to the rare phenomenon, and indeed gift, of synesthesia. Evidenced by Robert Babicz's eighth album, Utopia, this inherent creative process has resulted in a body of work that embodies his own personal experiences, forming a life soundtrack to epitomize moments of both elation and hardship. Memories enjoyed contrast with those endured, interwoven in a tapestry of musical expression that encapsulates a human story we can all relate to. Set for release on Marc Romboy's Systematic, a label of which the Polish-born artist is more than familiar with given his two previous Butterfly LPs, the album touches upon some of society's fundamental challenges, most notable of which is our search for the ideal world. Perhaps most strikingly is Robert's assertion that the "Utopia" we seek is not in fact a destination; rather it is a journey. Each track therefore is a reflection of such a discovery, acting as an auditory representation of Robert's personal tale. The voyage begins with "Childhood", an ambient introductory piece that blissfully sets the tone of the release with emotive keys and warm, ethereal pads. "Heartstone" soon takes the helm, as progressive synths converge on a rhythmic kick-hat backbone, before the instrument-dotted "Heroes" opens with a stunning guitar-riff lead and resonant snare patterns. The subdued tones of "Hotel Kalimba" graces listeners, a beautiful interluding track that works to rise and fall simultaneously, paving the way for a reworked version of "Sonntag", one of Robert's most popular tracks previously released on the well-established Kompakt label. "Come Down" swiftly ups the tempo, featuring a compelling main bassline that accompanies the poignant storytelling of vocalist Zera, before the hypnotic hum of "Super Cactus" softens the pace and offers a glimpse into a world far-removed from ours. Listeners are graced with another bespoke offering in "Sin", an enchanting seven-minute rework of Robert's debut Systematic track of the same name, whilst the heartfelt sense of "No One Else" undulates with a gentle lucidity, as Zera's docile tones shimmer amidst a saxophone solo that evokes feelings of contemplation and anguish in one. Climax soon emerges with its breaks-inspired drum patterns and ethereal synth pulses, before the cosmic notes of "Garden of Souls" leave you in a haze of starry, wide-eyed reflection. Alice Rose's mesmerizing vocals amplify the meditative qualities of "Infinity Inside", a delicate penultimate record that unfurls into the album's eventual closing track: "Utopia".

ADHELM Yasam Rose CD
Adhelm's compositions investigate the spaces where insistent nature and bleak urbanity meet. The result is a compelling admixture of resonant percussion, processed field recordings and spectral electronics. His adventurous compositional processes and experiments echo musique concrète, Cageian indeterminacy, and the deep listening ethos of Pauline Oliveros."I do not know much about gods; but I think that the river Is a strong brown god -- sullen, untamed and intractable, Patient to some degree, at first recognised as a frontier; Useful, untrustworthy, as a conveyor of commerce; Then only a problem confronting the builder of bridges. The problem once solved, the brown god is almost forgotten; By the dwellers in cities -- ever, however, implacable. Keeping his seasons and rages, destroyer, reminder; Of what men choose to forget. Unhonoured, unpropitiated; By worshippers of the machine, but waiting, watching and waiting." --T.S. Eliot, from The Dry Salvages (No. 3 of "Four Quartets")"This album comprises two pieces inspired by T. S. Eliot's The Dry Salvages. Yasam Rose imagines a day-in-the-life of the vessel of the same name that works along the lesser known part of the Thames. The ship sits small and alone in the river it traverses, occasionally kissing the vast banks which stir with trade and gossip. Navigating murky and muscular currents, it surveys the bleak flat landscapes scarified by dense clusters of industry. From wider waters, where sea-faring ships sit so tall they dwarf even the Yasam Rose, it travels upriver where scatters of Wren's London echo from the banks. A passage through rain thick with traces from a metropolis forgetting its bucolic past. Spek explores East London's once dense and thriving industry as it recedes into the Thames' estuary. Still kinetic with trade, some areas lie defunct and dilapidated as nature strives to claim them back. Spek is red with rust and spattered by the sludge of low tide. Wind-swept, battered and cold, the machine of industry fights on as nature howls, whirls and lashes against it." --Beni Giles (aka Adhelm)

PHILIPPE & THE NIGHT MAIL, LOUIS Thunderclouds CD
Key figure of the baroque pop/chamber pop genre Louis Philippe's musical output seems to follow a spasmodic timetable. This year has already seen the release of The Devil Laughs (PICI 019CD/LP), his critically acclaimed second collaboration with Young Marble Giant Stuart Moxham, now followed by Thunderclouds, on which he is joined by The Night Mail, a three-man band made up of Robert Rotifer (guitar), former Acid Jazz artist Andy Lewis (bass), and ex-member of Thrashing Doves and Death in Vegas, Ian Button (drums). Philippe and Rotifer have been close friends for many years. At the end of the first lockdown period, Rotifer went to see Philippe at his flat to go through the endless pile of musical sketches the latter had amassed during his prolonged hiatus. In early September the whole band finally got together for two rehearsals before decamping to Rimshot Studios in rural Kent to record the backing tracks for all thirteen songs as well as overdubbing strings (played by violinist Rachel Hall from Big Big Train) and trumpet parts (by Shanti Jayasinha), followed by another session overdubbing vocals, keyboards, percussion, and some more guitars, expertly engineered by Andy Lewis at Rotifer's home studio in Canterbury. The result is an album that evokes that city's fabled brand of whimsical prog just as much as Philippe's deep roots in French song-craft and a shared love for the autumnal side of sunshine pop. "Living on Borrowed Time", a catchy, bass-driven, sounds like the theme tune to a lost Lemmy Caution movie. While the album's title track cloaks the anticipation of a coming storm in heavily jazz-tinged Wyattesque chords magically rising out of the singing noise emanating from a building site next to Louis Philippe's Shepherd's Bush home, light-footed waltzes like "Fall In A Daydream" and "Once In A Lifetime Of Lies" manage to make London feel like Paris, before the closing track "When London Burns" invites the listener onto an imaginary dance-floor where an anglophone Michel Polnareff meets disco boffin Biddu. In between all that, you traverse the eerie aural cityscapes of "Alphaville", the wide dynamic range of two song suites ("The Man Who Had It All" and "Rio Grande"), the Tropicalia/folk-flavored subtlety of "The Mighty Owl", the surprising gospel grooves of "Love Is The Only Light", the arresting stop-and-start dramatics of "No Sound", the unexpected Celtic tones of "Do I" and the equally loony and beautiful semi-instrumental "Willow".

ANNIE TAYLOR Sweet Mortality CD
The band initially came into existence in 2016, consisting of charismatic singer and guitarist Gini Jungi, bassist Michael Mutter, drummer Jan Winkler, and guitarist Tobias Arn. In 2017, the band released their first two singles "Partner in Crime" and "Wasted Youth", before taking themselves on a tour of Italy, France, and Switzerland. Not Yours!, the quartet's highly anticipated debut EP was released in spring 2019 and sold out only a few months later. Over the past few years, the band's sound shifted away from the rock-tinged pop of their early releases, instead drenching it in a heavier psychedelic wash, gaining the band comparisons to Warpaint or early Hole, and catching the ears of LA Weekly, The 405, Soundblab, and For The Rabbits. Released via Taxi Gauche Records, Not Yours! featured artwork created by Dominic Foster, also known for his work with The Coral. The band decided to hole themselves up once again at DALA Studios for their debut album, with David Langhard (producer of psychedelic titans Klaus Johann Grobe). Sweet Mortality is the result.

PARRIS Polychrome Swim 12"
"Parris made a career of turning UK dance music inside out. His discography is an arsenal of bangers, but they rarely sound like you might think -- featherweight where others would be lead-footed, soft when you might expect rigidity, and deeply rooted in dub sounds. He follows a lineage established by early James Blake and Airhead records where empty space can be the loudest sound. His latest EP lands on The Trilogy Tapes, and it follows the footsteps of his last release for the label back in 2017. It's dubby and it's light, taking UK dance music forms and making a skeletal, almost featherweight version of them..." --Resident Advisor

WHITE STRIPES, THE White Blood Cells LP
2020 repress. "For this one Jack and Meg decamped to Memphis to record at the legendary Easley-McCain Studio and walked away with a bonafide classic. Unique for a White Stripes album as it contains no covers, no guest musicians, no blues and no guitar solos, this album would be most of the world's introduction to the band. While the video for 'Fell In Love With A Girl' could've single-handedly raised the price of LEGO stock three bucks a share (IF it was a publicly traded company) the other jams on here are momentous, from the fuzz distorted clarion call of album opener 'Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground' to the finger-pointing accusations of 'I Think I Smell A Rat' this album has everything you could ever want from the Detroit duo. Cut directly from the original 1/4" master tapes, pressed on HEAVY 180-gram vinyl and lovingly ensconced in a beauteous Stoughton tip-on jacket... this album has never looked better, and perhaps, has looked markedly worse."

AYLER, ALBERT New Grass LP
Repressed. "Albert Ayler's 1969 album New Grass has been misunderstood from the day of its release. The album finds Ayler experimenting with soul music and digging back into his R&B roots (he started his career playing saxophone with Chicago bluesman Little Walter), fusing it with the avant-garde free jazz (the one element of the record which garnered consistent praise) and adding the vocals of Rose Marie McCoy, The Soul Singers and Ayler himself. As if predicting the divisiveness of the record to follow, Ayler speaks directly to the listener and explains that New Grass is nothing like his albums before -- that it is of "a different dimension of his life" -- in the album opener "Message from Albert." New Grass deserves reconsideration, if not for the heavy grooves and surprising arrangements, then for its bravery in challenging norms of the time; by the '60s, jazz was well-accepted as a uniquely American art form, while soul as a genre was very much still seen as primitive. Ayler melds them together and creates something novel, adventurous, and completely his own. At the time of its release, despite its divisive reception, New Grass helped break down the unnecessary walls dividing genres and revealed music's potential freedoms. The album has gone on to influence generations of jazz, R&B, funk, hip hop, post punk, no wave and unshrinking artists like Pharaoh Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Funkadelic, Jungle Brothers, Red Krayola, Sonic Youth and Mark E. Smith. Third Man Records can't recommend this record highly enough. We are confident that it won't take but one listen for you to understand New Grass is an undeniable healing force."

PUESTEL, RICO Heptakaideka LP+CD
Rico Puestel debuts on his Time In The Special Practice Of Relativity label with a mind-boggling journey of 41 minutes -- split in two parts to fit on vinyl. Heptakaideka is what it won't be and will be what it never was: Something from in-between worlds, a place beyond far beyond, where time dissolves into relativity... Starting off with a hazy half-grasp hint of what's to come, a mysteriously pervasive bionic loop emerges, slowly coalescing with a bone-dry groove on the rise. Taking up a first quadrant of the track, already gnawing into the long-term memory, it manages to gradually establish itself along the pathway while the "rhythmatics" endure some subtle layer-shifting with occult-like strings come sliding in from somewhere unknown like an admonitory subtext. Being halfway through (and all the way in), everything smoothly crumbles down to its basic framework, still shaking off its own reminiscences while foregone vestiges almost perilously try to reassemble themselves. All of that leading to a clearly unforeseen yet fortunate drift into a 1980s-like synth peak time section after about 27 minutes being in that track, finally cherishing an evolving emotional felicity and the climax of its own being that tends to feel like an overarching salvation. As everything being eventually finite, the track starts to bring to mind where it came from by assuredly falling back into a story told before with the well-established bionic loop that once used to run free, sounding somehow different and more tamed now. Ending with dignity, the consistently resurfaced admonitory strings lead the way to its conclusion and possibly new beginnings, solely leaving behind the heartbeat-like booming that carried it all, now fading away... Coming into existence during a series of multiple productions of exuberant proportions with Rico making the studio his citadel-like stronghold, this is an extensive story of desires, instincts, pride, fall, mirth, solicitude, tension, détente and basically life itself while subtly yet versatilely entertaining on a dodgy yet accessible level throughout the wingspread of techno, house, minimal, dub, electronica, and ambient influences. The included CD not only brings you the title track in the guise of its non-split completeness but eminently churns out the extra drumming dub treat "Dekaepta" for a pleasurable groove-delight as well as the trippy bonus beauty "Vosem'".

ROSSALL The Last Glam In Town LP
LP version. Remember The Glitter Band? Original songwriter/leader John Rossall is back with his best album ever, abetted by glam-era friends, plus Nightingales and Membranes. Contrary to the old blather, it was The Glitter Band, and glam rock in general, that pointed to possibilities which exploded during punk, not -- let's be honest! -- the dirty beard-wearing post-hippie meanderings of pub rock. GLAM! Those outfits! The endless soaring choruses! Outer space futurism! At its best, it couldn't be topped. Even famed glam fans The Ramones couldn't match the perfect minimalism of The Glitter Band, adding a "ho!" where "hey!" was already perfection. But it's not quite remembered that way. Glam's audacity was gummed up by over-reliance on early rock covers, stingy recording budgets, endless tours eating up writing time, and the showbiz machinations of jealous stars -- damaging enough to prevent The Glitter Band from seeing their records released in America. Despite further hits, the band stumbled when John Rossall left, after their second album, to start a solo career that never quite took off the way his many fans had hoped. A small but niggling rock 'n roll question is, what might have happened had Rossall and group been given the time, budget and freedom to record an album of their own creation? It's been nearly half a century since Rossall left the band he started, but -- unbelievably -- that question has now been answered by the release of the best start-to-finish album by The Glitter Band or any of its alumni. Recorded by Simon "Ding" Archer and mixed by Dave Trumfio, Rossall's The Last Glam In Town is a near-perfect album of soaring tunes, energy and fun, capturing the spirit of The Glitter Band audaciously accurately. Though ably assisted by longtime collaborator Mark Standley, members of his touring band, as well as The Nightingales (whose leader, Robert Lloyd sings two songs), and arch-fan by John Robb of The Membranes (who also sings two), it's John Rossall front-and-center, clearly having the time of his life. Bob Bradbury contributes the mighty "Got My Groove:", and tragically, Alan Merrill of The Arrows, writer of rock standard "I Love Rock And Roll", gifted Rossall a potential hit in "Equalizer", shortly before his death due to COVID-19 complications. 2020 is the perfect year for the joyous rock abandon and soaring optimism of The Last Glam In Town.

SLEEPER & SNAKE Fresco Shed (Blue Vinyl) LP
LP version. Blue vinyl; edition of 150. While Sleeper & Snake pairs up the great Al Montfort (Total Control, The UV Race, Dick Diver) and Amy Hill (Primo!, Constant Mongrel), who've both found themselves in league as band mates in Terry, this album isn't quite the pop pairing that it seems on the surface. Accompanying the strums, jangles, and geniality there's also present offbeat electronics and free jazz fizz. Homespun vignettes of warbled keyboards, fizzed improv interludes, shifting layers of skewed harmony and wistful yet pointed lyrical pep is their measure. The duo still locks into a mordant lo-fi mode but there's a delicacy at play here too with cello, harmonica, and even sarangi being employed in the foundation of these frothy concoctions of outsider folk and post punk hodgepodge. Following on from 2019's Junction And High debut, new album Fresco Shed unfurls with the same floating free atmosphere. The record launches with an uncanny field recording before being drawn onward by the coalescing alto and tenor saxophones of "Miracles". "Flats Falling" is a crystalline assembly of cello, drum machine and plucky bass which freewheels around, curlicues of sax sparking off amid the duo's matter-of fact vocal parade. Comparably buoyant, "Shoot Through" also conceals inner depths in wraiths of wild melody and memory. "Rokeby" is more of a serenade into the wind, showcasing the duo's love of alliterative wordplay. "Reach Out" strolls down a similar path, only pursued by bursts of Wurlitzer. Hill and Montfort's vocals are mirrored in unity but still retain their ability to wrong-foot expectation. For instance, "Lock Up The Loose" is reminiscent of a cosmic, country ballad, only written for a children's party. The song's jejune delivery belying lyrical concerns around the notion of incarceration. "Fresco Shed" takes its title from a line in tremulous, keyboard ponderance "Lady Painter". An acoustic guitar and cello mark the decentred rhythm here, in contrast to the clustering synth-lines and sax breezes that tangle throughout "Piles". An interplay of saxophones alone builds "New Togs" heady ambience, with multiple horns weaving through each other's reverb trail, this is dauntless, spry music, no resting on laurels allowed. "Declare" closes the album with a whirl of melodies that stretch to their limits before vanishing into thin air. Fresco Shed is transportive, ludic, humane and homemade, ruminative and resourceful. A total triumph of substance over style from an endlessly creative duo.

GREEN CHILD, THE Shimmering Basset LP
The Green Child is the once long-distance, now based in the same house recording project of Raven Mahon (furniture maker and former member of Grass Widow) and Mikey Young (recording engineer and band member of Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). The duo draws its spectral pop sound from an illusory past as much as they stalk into pastures new. Broadly retro-futuristic in scope, verdant acres of lushly evocative synthesizers and vintage drum machines underpin most of The Green Child's upbeat yet decidedly uncanny songs. More assured and auspicious, the songs collected on Shimmering Basset are concerned with life after relocation and deal with distance and staying connected. Shimmering Basset also concerns itself with the subjects of transport, escape, the centering of home, humanity in the performative news arena and the idea of time being a beast, animate and hungry. "Fashion Light" conjures up a brilliance from the first few sparks of the album, spinning dizzy dots of synth melody into a classy slice of avant-pop, with live drums courtesy of Shaun Gionis. "Low Desk: High Shelf" follows in likewise sprightly mode. Glancing synths criss-cross, worthy of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, echoing off the straight-up beat, allowing Raven's collected vocal to stitch its haunted path. A floating kick drum sets off the shivery flurries of sound on "Witness", featuring bristling electronic percussion from James Vinciguerra. Blossoming basslines and saxophone blushes sweep through the relaxed atmosphere of "The Installation". "Tony Bandana" makes a break for it as a rock song with Arron Mawson lending his bass skills to the foray. The Green Child acknowledge an interesting array of musical cues from New Musik via Sade to Hot Chocolate, the latter most keenly felt on the slinky groove behind "Dreamcom". Clockwork sequencing, drawbar organ amid bouncing guitar spirals and a lightness of vocal touch make for a potent potion. The duo covers "Resurrection" by Canadian '60s popsmith Andy Kim later on the record, turning his orchestral "hymn of searching" into a grandiose tower of overlapping drones, languid vocal reverb, and strummed chords. Meanwhile, "Health Farm" is awash with questing keyboard melodies, its notes speeding into each other like Boards Of Canada with the legato ramped up. "Double Lines" draws this fascinating album to an end, seeping into the room like an apparition. Shimmering Basset is a robust album of compelling melody, expanded vision, and melancholic grandeur. 180 gram vinyl.

VA Down Home Blues: Miami, Atlanta & The South Eastern States: Blues In The Alley 3CD
"Wienerworld is proud and excited to present to you the fifth box set in our unmissable Down Home Blues series, exploring the unique regions of the black American blues scene. Blues In The Alley features 29 artists that were influential in continuing and developing the traditions of the blues in the southeast. This release includes early down home blues recordings from none other than Ray Charles, before his climb to fame with his bigger sounding jazz-tinged blues. Alongside this, there are early recordings from Earl Hooker and Jerry McCain, two exceptionally gifted musicians who were always left on the cusp of success. Don't forget to check out the first recordings from Frank Edwards, who captivated audiences with his rack-mounted harmonica guitar one-man band style, from the 1940s right up to his last years of performing and recording in 2003. Down Home Blues: Miami, Atlanta & The South Eastern States is a three-CD set, packaged in a deluxe digipak with outer slipcase, featuring 83 tracks, all of them superbly remastered. This collection has been collated thanks to the generous help of blues collectors from both sides of the Atlantic, with rare recordings that are for the first time made available for listening via today's compact disc medium. An outstanding 78-page book, featuring a 15,000-word essay by blues historian Chris Bentley, accompanies the release. Rare period photographs illustrate the essay throughout with a complete session-ography and extensive gallery of original 78 and 45 record labels. Blues In The Alley is a close companion to Wienerworld's Tough Enough collection (WNRCD5104), with both sets dovetailing the post-war blues from America's north and southeastern states. The southeastern states were known as slow starters in having record companies to start up to record, produce and distribute the artistes that were performing on their own doorsteps after the Second World War."

K-LONE Capa Cira (Yellow Vinyl) LP
Yellow vinyl. Cape Cira is the lush, hypnotic debut album by acclaimed British producer K-LONE. In contrast to his clubbier productions, Cape Cira sees the producer explore the full melodic and textural potentials of his sound, drawing influence from ambient, fourth world, and modern classical music to create a work more closely related to the outputs of SND, Jon Hassell, Burnt Friedman, or -- more recently -- Don't DJ and Visible Cloaks. The result of a short creative burst during a grim British winter, the record explores music as escapism, comprising a series of lush, warm vignettes that demonstrate music's unique transportive power. Cape Cira takes place in a sensuous sonic world between the natural and digital realms: FM synthesizers mimic acoustic instruments, tuned percussion, and bird song; and found sounds and field recordings are processed with a hyperreal sheen. The gift for composition only hinted at in K-LONE's work to date is on full display here. The artful and intuitive simplicity of the record's melodies belies the complexity of their composition, where looping polyrhythms create shifting, unresolved patterns and ever-changing counterpoints. Cape Cira marks the first full length release on Wisdom Teeth -- the label K-LONE runs with friend and collaborator, Facta. The album stands as an exciting next step for both the producer and the label itself, furthering their reputation as key young voices in contemporary electronic music.

The infamous Troll score is its very own kind of monster: an extended five-movement symphony conducted by Richard Band in full sorcery mode, creating exhilarating moments of excitement and seat-gripping intensity. At the center of the magnum opus lies the incredible "Cantos Profanae" and its chorus sung in a mix of old English, Gaelic, and Latin -- an irresistible magic rhythm, an anthem of fantasy, a true cult classic. Richard Band often cites Troll as one of his favorite works -- no wonder, it's absolutely amazing. GHANIA WITH PHAROAH SANDERS, MALEEM MAHMOUD The Trance Of Seven Colors 2LP
2020 repress! Zehra present The Trance Of Seven Colors by master Gnawa musician Maleem Mahmoud Ghania and free jazz legend Pharoah Sanders, available on vinyl for the very first time. Originally released in 1994 on Bill Laswell's Axiom imprint, and produced by Bill Laswell, The Trance Of Seven Colors is the meeting of two true musical masters. Maleem Mahmoud Ghania (1951-2015), son of the master of Gnawa music Maleem Boubker Ghania and the famous clairvoyant and "moqaddema", A'isha Qabral, and a master of the traditional Gnawa style in his own right. Mahmoud learned this craft as a youth along with his brothers, walking from village to village, performing ceremonies with his father Boubker and was one of the few masters (Maleem) who continued to practice the Gnawa tradition strictly for healing (the central ritual of the Gnawa is the trance music ceremony -- with the purpose of healing or purification of the participants). With 30 cassette releases of music from the Gnawa repertoire with his own ensemble and performances at every major festival in Morocco, including performing for the King in various contexts, Mahmoud Ghania was also one of Morocco's most prominent professional musicians. In 1994, Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders went to Morocco equipped with just some mobile recording devices to record Ghania and a large ensemble of musicians (a good portion being family members) in a very intimate set-up at a private house. Sanders, the legendary free jazz musician, contributed the distinctive tenor saxophone sounds that gained him highest praise as a truly spiritual soul right from the days of playing with John Coltrane and his wife Alice and on seminal solo albums, like Karma (1969). The aptly titled The Trance Of Seven Colors ranks among the best Gnawa recordings ever released, making it onto The Vinyl Factory's list of "10 incredible percussive albums from around the world". 25 years after its original CD release, it is finally available on vinyl. Remastered for vinyl and vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. 180 gram vinyl; comes in gatefold sleeve; includes download code. CAFE TURK Cafe Turk 2LP
Café Türk are an inimitable Turkish-Swiss band formed in the 1980s, whose genre-bending sonic palette draws from Anatolia, the Caucasus, and Western Europe. The group's frantic trajectory connects Switzerland and the Turkish city of Kars with a background story as rich and unexpected as their sound. After three decades since they disbanded, Zel Zele Records have collaborated with Turkish crate-digger Grup Ses to give the music of Café Türk a new lease of life. This eponym compilation features original album tracks, singles and previously unreleased takes that trace the outline of the group's history. From the rolling disco of the group's debut recording "Haydi Yallah"; to the previously unreleased kosmiche of "Y?ld?zlar", "Ali Baba From Istanbul"'s Azeri grooves and German language vocals, to the psyched-out interpretation of Caucasian folk tune "?amil", Café Türk showcases the endless stream of ideas the band had during their time together between 1983 and 1989. Tracks come with an unrestrained spirit, weaving in the crackling energy of new wave, rock, disco, and reggae with influences from Turkey and Azerbaijan. This fascination in pulling different worlds together goes right back to the formative days of Metin Demiral, founder of Café Türk. Metin grew up in Kars, a provincial town in the Northeastern part of Turkey. Kars was once known for its multicultural communities; where you could hear locals speaking a range of languages, from Turkish to Azeri, Russian and Kurdish. In 1983 Café Türk won a contest set for Turkish groups based in Europe, organized by the label Türküola, home to Turkish stars like Cem Karaca, Selda Ba?can, and Bar?? Manço. The resultant recording sessions gave birth to his new band and debut LP, Pizza Funghi. But Metin turned down Türküola's offer to put the record out and instead self-pressed 1000 copies on his own Sound Concept label -- driving as far as Berlin to sell them face-to-face to record shops. The record was picked up by a member of the German city of Nuremburg's Cultural Department and soon Café Türk were invited to play for the local workers' unions, many of whom represented immigrants from Turkey. These events only grew in popularity, the group ultimately spending five years touring similar shows in Europe, alongside more conventional tours and festivals. Metin had hoped to bring his new record to audiences in Turkey again, however, he found it impossible to get any of his songs played on state-sponsored radio, something he attributed to the infamously strict supervisory board of TRT, Turkey's state-funded broadcaster. TRT tended to not accept songs that blended both western and traditional Turkish music in order to avoid "degenerating" Turkish folk music. Four-page booklet with extensive liner notes and photos.
