Overall impression: good. It's been about 4 years since the last proper album, "Divine Intervention" ... so have Slayer grown and expanded there sound? Well, no, not really. But then Slayer have never really been known for their "musical growth" over their 15 year career. What Slayer is known for is being the kings of death metal, and they live up to the status once again with this album. Combining the usual solid hyperspeed guitar riffs, manic drumming and gruntal screams, the songs on "Diabolus" could easily be interchanged with any on "Divine Intervention". This album suffers from the same problem as "Divine..", there's a lot of songs that just don't have very interesting guitar/vocal hooks. There's also several stops and starts within songs that I find a bit annoying, and the 40 minute length is a bit short. But, it's still a fun listen for the devoted Slayer fan (like myself) just not as good as classics such as "Reign in Blood" and "Seasons in the Abyss". "Diabolus.." (meaning "Devil Music") does have spiffy artwork to match past albums though.
