DMSO (DRUGMURDERSEXORGY) is Semaj De Sade.

Overall impression: good. This is a special self-produced and pressed Halloween cd courtesy DMSO. The best way for me to describe this music is Skinny Puppy influenced industrial (musically and vocally) with techno, ambient and experimental tendencies. Track by track:  "Tripor Treat" and "Corpsegrinder" are fairly standard industrial-techno, both loaded up with your typical yet still humorous horror movie samples. "Creature Feature" and "Smotherfucker" are more aggressive and experimental (intense pounding percussion on the latter), both *very* reminiscent of earlier Puppy due to the blend of big bass lines, percussion, samples and Ogre-esque vox. "Necronomicon" (dedicated to H.P. Lovecraft) is a beat-less and vocal-less ambient piece that begins with synth patch chord patterns that change to more experimental sounds/samples in the latter half. The lyrics (on all tracks except "Necronomicon") read like a cross between the Misfits and Slayer ... I'm not sure how seriously I'm supposed to take them but I'm assuming from the artwork, track names and words that this is a bit over the top because it's a Halloween oriented disc. I think I'd like DMSO's music even more if it were even more instrumental ... the vocals bug me a little except when they're more buried in the mix as they are on "Creature Feature" and "Smotherfucker", my 2 fav tracks. The production still needs a little tweaking here and there too, some tracks are real heavy on the bass end and there's some distortions here and there. Other than those minor quibbles Semaj knows what he's doing ... he knows how to make his machines sit up and bark. One thing is for sure ... the music coming out by "unknowns" these days is pretty darned impressive (see also Thread "The Need for a Sky" and kr0p3r0m "a9FF"). Good stuff that's only going to get better ...

Where did I get this cd? - this cd was sent to me free of charge by DMSO for the purpose of review and enjoyment.
