Who are V/Vm and what is their purpose?  For some time now I've faithfully collected all of the numerous 7"s and cds and I'm still not sure.  What I do know is these guys have a great sense of humor and everything they do is an adventure in sonic tomfoolery.  "The Green Door" is the very latest filled to capacity cd (hot on the heels of "Sick Love") and it comes in the usual sealable pouch packaging.  According to the liner notes it was intended to be a various artists compilation but is instead an audio diary of an abduction by the mysterious 'Shakey'.  The V/Vm lads do what they usually do scouring up all sorts of amusing (better left?) forgotten tunes and '80s hits then thoroughly butcher them, all the while ignoring every copyright law ever written.  Chris De Burgh's "Lady in Red", Wham's "Careless Whisper", Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus", Lionel Richie's "All Night Long", Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" and others are given a bit more mileage, albeit through V/Vm's heavy distortion, pitch shift and cut-up glitch filters.  Among these are a variety of goofy singalongs, swinging romps, piano ditties, short theme and kids songs, not to mention squealing pigs ... some are essentially left unaltered while others are thoroughly V/Vm-ized.  "I'd Rather Jack Than Fleetwood Mac" is an adrenaline charged disco call to arms.  "A Day Up North" and "He Ain't Heavy He's My Butcher" provide some of the Merzbow-like moments.  "This Ole House" and the title track lets the kiddies sing their hearts out over bubble gum pop grooves.  Altogether "The Green Door" is great fun with all the well balanced silliness and variety you'd expect from V/Vm.  They've yet to disappoint me.  Just about anyone could do what they're doing but they do it so well ... why bother?  Also out now/soon:  "All Night Long (All Night)" 7", "Rock Me Amadeus" 7", Alien Porno Midgets 7", "I'm Out of My Mind and Bacon Rind" 7", Tribute To Borussia Dortmund 7", "Sick Love" cd, Christmas Cracker 7" and the Christmas Pudding cd.  Wow!
