Not Breathing is David Wright.

"Itchy Tingles" is Not Breathing's fourth cd and third album for Invisible Records.  It collects tracks recorded between 1998 and 2000 which was a trying time for David Wright as he contracted spinal meningitis and suffered a subsequent hearing loss.  I've always thought of Wright as the DIY punk of the electro-industrial scene.  When he's not making music, he's making odd homemade sound machines for himself and his Carrion Sound company.  Those unique sounds, sharp programming skills and a great sense of humor make Not Breathing's music what it is.  This album is dense, busy and aggressive as nearly every track is loaded with beats and thoroughly processed synth sounds, noise and samples ... unfolding and morphing throughout their durations.  Wright's tracks don't really fall into any sort of easy categorization, thankfully, as he melds many different styles of rhythms, ambiance and electronics.  And despite the clutter, they don't sound cluttered.  Some comments on particular tracks:  "Wasp Fury" blends in subtle spoken words by an unidentified female.  "Telstar" is just plain silly with a goofy organ melody.  "Lilac Time" foregoes the beat for 8 and 1/2 minutes of fairly dark, liquid ambiance.  "Stand By Your Man" is, yes, the Tammy Wynette one and it's given the full on electro-scrub treatment.  Yep, this another winner.  And you get your moneys worth as it's just under 74 minutes.  Not Breathing is one of a handful of really good U.S. electronic artists.  Look for him on tour, possibly, with label mates The Damage Manual this fall ...
