Meat Beat Manifesto is Jack Dangers

Overall impression: good. "Prime Audio Soup" is the second single (the first being "Acid Again") from Meat Beat's superb '98 album, "Actual Sounds + Voices". Track 1 hacks the album version about in half, otherwise it's pretty much the same. The "Dub" is a less crowded and re-arranged version of the original also by Dangers. The Boards of Canada and Herbaliser mixes just barely retain the vibe of the original track, each sounds very much in the style of the remixer. BoC keep a synth line and the 'set me free' sample but overall it has the sparse, space-verb, downtempo groove that sounds like most anything off of BoC's "Music has the Right to Children". The Herbaliser remix is more uptempo, he also keeps the 'set me free' sample and adds a bit of scratching and the usual atmospheric background samples that most Herbaliser tracks have. The Biomouse mix is an incredibly annoying aggro-distorted mess of spliced together chunks of the original track and new chunks of noise, samples, guitars, etc. Yuck. So, overall: 4/5 get a thumbs up. I happen to prefer them in the same order as the track listing ...
