San Diego whiz Kid 606 is best known for rapid fire, cut and paste beats, glitch, noise and samples so the tranquil nature of this disc is a bit of (welcome) shock.  "The Soccergirl EP" is the 2nd installment in Carparkrecords 'sports fan' cd series.  It's a normal sized 5 inch disc with 3 inches of silver and soccer ball graphic and comes in an insert less jewel case with soccer field turf under the tray.  The 6 tracks, obviously owing inspiration to affairs of the heart, are warm and melodic songs more akin to Boards of Canada than Squarepusher.  Here Kid uses only ambient-ish textures, twinkly digital bits and gentle reverberated bass and beats.  It's all very inviting and pleasant with the possible exception of the slightly dissonant tones of "Start".  "The Soccergirl EP" is cute and a fine addition to the rapidly evolving and expanding 606 discography.  Next up is the debut album "P.S.  I Love You" for Mille Plateaux out on October 17th ...
