This mini album, which is also available on transparent 12" in a different mix with a 19 minute bonus track, is the first new C93 release since 1998's piano and vocal based album "Soft Black Stars". It is the second collaboration with Thomas Ligotti, Tibet's favorite author, following up on 1997's "In A Foreign Town, In A Foreign Land" cd/book. Ligotti is renowned as one of the most brilliant American writers alive today and it's easy to see why here. On this single 22 minute track Tibet reads a Ligotti text accompanied by music. Tibet's spoken voice interprets Ligotti's story to great effect, aided by manipulations and tape recorder style cut-ups. The music is of a an ambient drone nature that includes mangled, unintelligible spoken passages, some background voices and machine sounds. In the final few minutes the music ceases leaving only Tibet's speech, which is then slowed down and stretched to ridiculous, tension inducing lengths into the concluding seconds when the 'special plan' is finally revealed. Everything about this disc is beautifully dark, creepy and eerie ... the story, the voices, the music, the effects, the artwork ... everything. The music and words are a perfect match and are another welcome departure from the 'apocalyptic folk' style. Once again this digipack features colorful paintings by Tibet. Up next is the Current 93 / Antony And The Johnsons Orchestra "Immortal Bird / Cripple And The Starfish" cd and 7", then a new Current 93 album to follow later this spring ...
