The Legendary Pink Dots "Sterre" SPV Poland SPV 056 1997 (22:42)

Sterre (4:12)
Spike Psychomix (3:39)
The Elefant's Graveyard (10:31)
Sterre Instrumental (4:20)

Overall impression: excellent. Sterre and the original version of Spike are available on the album "Hallway of the Gods". It may be debatable to some if it's worth the cost (roughly $10) for the 1 non-album track and the 2 alternate versions, but I'm happy. Track 2 strips down the album version of "Spike" and beefs up the disortion and rhythm sections. Track 3 is a long almost dubby instrumental with a slow driving bass and drum rhythm surrounded by keyboard effects and horns. It feels and sounds exactly like the title ... like a long Elephant march. Track 4 is about the same as track 1, but the vocals are limited to the occasional "so sad" and "she is so beautiful" lines fading in and out. The instrumentation is front and center with additional effects and sounds mixed in. If you're an LPD completist (like most are, or try to be), or you really love "Hallway of the Gods", then this single should be in your collection too.
