REYNOLS Minecxio Greatest No Hits LP
A comprehensive compilation documenting the exciting career of the legendary experimental Argentinian cult band Reynols. A career overview through eight of their most mesmerizing compositions. The fact that their drummer and singer Miguel Tomasin has down syndrome not only makes them one of the longest-running and most notable inclusive rock bands of all time, but also allows us to appreciate the importance of Miguel's creative contribution, both for his singular way of singing and for his inimitable verbal inventions. For his work with the band, Miguel stands as one of the most relevant personalities with down's syndrome in the world and his name appears mentioned in diverse books of neuroscience and neurodiversity. Their long list of collaborators includes luminaries such as Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Pauline Oliveiros, Damo Suzuki (Can), The Nihilist Spasm Band, Michael Snow, N U Unruh (Einst?rzende Neubauten), Alan Licht, Pajarito Zaguri, Acid Mothers Temple, John Oswald and many more.

CHERRY, DON Om Shanti Om LP
2023 limited restock; LP version. An amazing document of the life experiment that was the Organic Music Society. This super quality audio, recorded by RAI (the Italian public broadcasting company) in 1976 for television, documents a quartet concert focused on vocals compositions and improvisations. Here, Don Cherry and his family-community's musical belief emerges in its simplicity, with the desire to merge the knowledge and stimuli gained during numerous travels across the World in a single sound experience. Don's pocket-trumpet is melted with the beats of the great Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, the Italian guitar of Gian Piero Pramaggiore, and the tanpura drone of Moki. A pure hippie aesthetic, like in an intimate ceremony, filters a magical encounter between Eastern and Western civilizations, offering different suggestions of sound mysticism: natural acoustics in which individual instruments and voices are part of a wider pan-tribal consciousness. A desert Western landscape marries Asian and Latin atmospheres. Indigenous contributions with berimbau explorations find fossil sounds of rattles and clap-hands invocations. Influences of Indian mantra singing are combined with eternal African voices or with folkish-Latin guitar rhythms, while flute and drums evoke distant dances. In the Organic Music everything becomes an act of devotion and love, an ecstatic dwell in the dimension of a sacred free-rejoice.

SMITH, GONZALEZ Roll Up A Song LP
Jay Gonzalez and Pete Smith are like a modern-day Bacharach/David, if Burt spent his nights tearing it up with one of the best live rock bands in America, and Hal was a writer for Space Ghost Coast to Coast and The Brak Show. Their debut album as Gonzalez Smith, Roll Up a Song, is a seamless fusion of power pop, piano ballads, bossa nova, and pure spun sugar confection. Jay brings the same multi-instrumental compositional skills found on his first three solo albums, and Pete pens lyrics by turns honest, romantic, arch and comedic, sometimes in the same verse. The results are so stellar, it's a shock to find out that the Drive-By Truckers guitarist/keyboardist and the Adult Swim comedy scribe haven't been writing together for decades. Roll Up A Song transcends eras and genres. It's a harmonious journey, uniting melodies and lyrics into a timeless masterpiece. Get set to roll up the music, immersing in captivating soundscapes.

PORNBUGS & FRINK See Through My Eyes 12"
Next up for Pornbugs is a collaboration project with Frink -- "See Through My Eyes". Remix support comes from Miroloja and Roger Gerressen. DJ and production duo Pornbugs have been blazing a trail since 2005 and set up the label Bondage Music not long after to showcase their sound and the talented House artists around them. Frink is the epitome of underground. A talented artist with a steadfast fanbase that releases banger after banger with integrity and soul. "See Through My Eyes" is a solid slice of contemporary house music. Deeply hypnotic and wildly addictive, its vibey bass, scattergun percussions and icy, cinematic pads feel like a warm audio blanket on a cold winter's night. On the remix, Miroloja strips away at the layers for a deeper groove. 'Sigma' sees the triplet explore the tribal side of House. Rubber bass wraps around the opening tribal framework and develops into a classy deep houser with bags of soul. Roger Gerresen takes the baton and runs on the remix. Dubbing out the stabs for an icy, hypnotic journey. Perfect for the early morning hours after a long club night.

WICKED DUB DIVISION MEETS NORTH EAST SKA JAZZ ORCHESTRA Live Studio Session #1 CD
22 musicians locked in a large studio to rediscover the beauty of sharing after months away from the stage due to the pandemic, without even being able to rehearse. The decision to record a live album was instantaneous, it was just about enjoying the energy of the moment. All tracks were recorded strictly live in the studio, without overdubs, with the aim of apprehending something unrepeatable. The electronics, the melodies of the wind section and the vocal power come together in this work, recorded live at Deep Studio in Treviso (Italy) and mastered by Ibon Larruzea (Bilbao), full of dub atmospheres mixed with orchestral patterns. All this merges into a unique and explosive sound in which the strength of the big band meets the deep and hypnotic beats of dub music. A succession of untamed riddims and expansive sounds in which, in many cases, the wind section remains crouched in the background leaving the creative element in the hands of the dubmaster unit. The power of the big band merges with the heavy and deep step of the dub. A progression of organic, pressing cadences, as in the solidest of the ska and reggae traditions and, at the same time, electronic resonances, dilated and deep. Wicked Dub Division began their journey as a quartet in 2014 and prior to Studio Session #1 they had already released two albums and several singles. North East Ska Jazz Orchestra formed in 2012 and have previously released two albums (both available on Brixton Records) and are working on what will be the recording of their next full-length. Northeast Italy is a border area and it's easy to connect with each other in those territories made of enchanted landscapes. That energy, that desire to experiment and get involved, have made possible this ambitious project in which a ska-jazz orchestra and a dub band, each with its own language, are assembled in an amazing sonority.

BURGA, TERESA Estructura Propuesta Sonido: Piezas Para Instalaciones Y Composiciones Con Notas Al Azar (1972-2017) LP
This album compiles a series of sound pieces produced by the Peruvian artist Teresa Burga (Iquitos, 1933 -- Lima, 2021) during the 1970s. It includes works that were part of various artistic projects, mainly sound installations, as well as pieces commissioned to musicians and inspired by her work. This album thus embodies an approach to a sound universe that has accompanied Burga's very personal work, which has transcended the limits of the artistic medium and disciplines. In the last decade, Teresa Burga's work has been present in numerous retrospectives and anthologies, as well as in various critical studies, which has cemented her standing in the art world, both in her home country and internationally. A founding member of the avant-garde art collective, Arte Nuevo, Burga began painting and then embarked on an experimental path influenced by conceptual art. Her works emphasized her status as a woman in an eminently male art scene, as well as her experience as a public worker in the national tax administration system, which familiarized her with the bureaucratic language of reports and records -- a distinctive feature of her artistic style. Her work has explored multiple mediums and the use of technological resources, which can be seen in her light installations, videos, pieces that allude to computer processes, and sound installations, highlighting the place which women occupied in a world of technological mediations. This album includes the sound pieces "Estructura Informe Coraz?n" (Structure Informe Coraz?n) (1972) and "4 mensajes" (4 Messages) (1974), composed of heart sounds and distorted television signals. It also includes the interpretation of the conceptual score "Esctructura Propuesta Sonido" (Structure Proposal Sound I) (1978), based on the poem "Cruz y Ficci?n" by Blanca Varela, in versions by the Peruvian Nicol?s Wangeman, and by the Argentineans Alma Laprida and Alan Courtis. Also included is the piece "Borges" (2017), a commission by Burga to the Peruvian composer Jan Diego Malachowski, for the installation of the same name, here presented in a synthesizer version by Laprida and Courtis. The publication includes a booklet with extensive notes by curator and researcher Luis Alvarado, as well as extensive visual documentation. This album is published by Buh Records with the support of Proyecto AMIL, who have joined efforts to develop a collection dedicated to presenting fundamental Peruvian works that operate at the borders of visual arts and sound.

VA Viva El Sabado: Hits De Disco Pop Peruano (1978 - 1989) LP
This compilation brings together for the first time diverse Peruvian musical groups that immersed themselves in dance music following the codes brought by the disco revolution. As a phenomenon of a new culture, the global dissemination of disco music had various variations and reformulations. The way it took root in Peru constitutes a fascinating yet underexplored history, despite the numerous recordings that came to light, mainly in the 1980s, running parallel to the boom of Peruvian tropical music, the emergence of a new pop rock scene, and the widespread use of synthesizers and electronic drums. And even though the groups were eclectic and moved across various musical genres, their dance music hits have now become cult pieces. From Lima to Trujillo, from Iquitos to Tarapoto, this compilation presents a wide range of sounds designed for the dance floor: unrestrained, eclectic, and high-energy. From pioneering groups with brief yet foundational trajectories like Rollets (composed of members from the rock group Laghonia) or Santodomingo Kid (led by experimental musician Luis David Aguilar), who range from boogie to soul disco with electrifying synthesizer sounds. But also, the exotic arrangements of Grupo Am?rica and Grupo Cremolada, to the tropical disco pop sound of Grupo San Francisco or Los Roller's de Tarapoto. From the space disco ventures of Grupo Swing to the synthesized pop sound of Pepo Rock, Jaque Mate, or Annie. Viva el s?bado: Hits De Disco Pop Peruano (1978 - 1989) constitutes a fabulous and unique document to delve into Peruvian dance music and initiates a new series at Buh Records that will present in various volumes some of the treasures of disco music in Peru. Compilation and research by Luis Alvarado. The album includes a booklet with extensive information and visual documentation. Mastered by Alberto Cendra. Art and design by Estudio Famas.

MUJICA, MANONGO Ritual Sonoro Para Ruinas Circulares LP
From the re-reading of Jorge Luis Borges' famous story "The Circular Ruins," Peruvian composer, percussionist, and painter Manongo Mujica approaches some of his great obsessions with a new perspective: the desert of the Peruvian coast and the pre-Hispanic ceremonial centers found there. For years, the impressions of these places have evoked in Mujica a highly personal aesthetic, born from understanding the desert as a space for inner listening, and the ceremonial centers or "huacas" as a representation of mystery. Ritual Sonoro para Ruinas Circulares (Sound Ritual for Circular Ruins) is the synthesis, the dreamlike and sound amalgamation, and perhaps Manongo Mujica's ultimate album on his unique vision of the sound landscape and the desert. Building on a heritage of meditative and ethnic music, avant-garde jazz, and improvisation, here is a strange sound universe, based on the use of various drum and percussion rhythms (udu, djembe, gong, caj?n, seeds, Chinese bells, etc.), field recordings and sound montages, dense, reverberating, gloomy, immersive, and hypnotic soundscapes. These gradually give way to a solitary and penetrating cello (performed by Fil Uno). Crescendos introduce electroacoustic processes (created by the Norwegian Terje Evensen), interweaving panpipes and ritualistic voices (performed by Gabriela Ezeta), shaping the atmosphere like that of a magnificent ceremony. The album features the participation of Crist?bal, Daniel and Gabriel Mujica, sons of Manongo. As well as with the participation of Fil Uno, Terje Evensen and Gabriela Ezeta. It was recorded by Juanjo Salazar at the La enc?a del Leopardo studio. Mastered by Mario Breuer. And with the cover art by Yerko Zlatar, based on photographs by Pauline Barberi. It is published by Buh Records in digital and in a vinyl edition, limited to 300 copies.

DEADBEAT Kubler-Ross Soliloquies CD
Over the past 24 years, Scott Monteith's Deadbeat project has spanned a dizzying array of musical references and genres, exploring everything from left-field reggae to downbeat experiments, purifying drone excursions and ambient noise, extranational percussion workouts, and hypnotic techno and house. On his first solo album in five years, Monteith offers up what is perhaps the most powerful, tightly dance floor focused album of his storied carrier, and a soul cleansing, poignant sound track to the fears and hardships of a world gone mad, entitled K?bler-Ross Soliloquies. The K?bler-Ross model describes the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. A soliloquy is defined as an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud alone by oneself or regardless of any hearers. Over the album's eight tracks, Monteith explores each of these stages with a clear-eyed focus and confidence that are a testament to his dual role as a kind, smiling musical selector and monkish technological nerd ball of the highest order.

NEWSOM, JOANNA Ys 2LP
2023 restock. Double LP version; deluxe gatefold sleeve, with inserted 12"x12" booklet of lyrics. "Five songs, fifty-five minutes, what-an-album! Ys is to Ms. Newsom a dream collaboration between her voice and harp and a full orchestra -- a sound many of us fans have thought we were hearing when listening with closed eyes at her concert performances. Songs familiar to Joanna's following are a big part of Ys, having been performed in concert over the past year -- but not with the arrangements you'll find on four of the five songs here (one song being 'classic' Joanna; which is to say, solo). The songs, conceived with harp and voice and tracked as such by Steve Albini, were arranged with kindness and love by the legendary Van Dyke Parks over several months of correspondence and collaboration with Joanna. At the end of the day, the instrument count included strings, woodwinds, and brass plus dulcimer, marimba, various percussive instruments (including a horse skull!), banjo, mandolin, electric bass guitar (played by master of mellow Lee Sklar), electric guitar (played by jazz-great -- and-definitive-MAD-magazine-authority, Grant Geisseman), and accordion played by Van Dyke himself. If this seems like a bit of an overfull house -- wait'll you hear the mix Jim O'Rourke made of it! It's light and lilting, with Joanna front and center and sounds blowing and tearing and swelling around her, in perfect consort. The wide-screen beauty of Ys is due to, among other things, a scrupulously all-analog production involving forty-odd tracks spread over two synched-up 24-track tape machines, mixed to tape and mastered at Abbey Road, home of the all-analog mastering path!"

KAIFO Rural LP
Rural is the first long-play work of Carlos Asimbaya aka Kaifo, which sees a fully matured vision of Ecuadorian keyboard tradition catapulted into the future and rhythmically sustained by the "bomba" percussion; an Afroandean element that bears witness to the unique history of this country. Trained in classical music composition and inspired by jazz, Kaifo's repertoire features haunting, extensive melodies and scales that inform listeners on the landscapes of Andean styles while delivering a postmodern dancefloor experience. Rural finds a home under the Eck Echo roof, a label that proposes new and exciting shapes of global music for our ever-growing audiences. With Rural Kaifo uplifts the Ecuadorian organ tradition inaugurated in the mid-1960s by the likes of Polibio Mayorga into futuristic clubbing arenas. "Tres Caminos" is a magnificent opener where psychedelia meets the soft snare elegance of the "albazo", the indigenous genre that defines the soul of this country. "Monte Espeso" introduces clubbers worldwide to the contagious grooves of "bomba", the trademark rhythm of Afroecuadorian communities. The raw keyboard melody strikes fast like a proverbial lightning. "Hecho Le?a" sounds like the one-man orchestra that is Kaifo. Relentless timbales fills and an alcohol-fueled family vibe characterize this unique "chicha" track.

VILLAGE OF SPACES That's Understanding LP
"Having listened to this disk 20 or so times over the past week, I have been struck time and again by the gently naif quality of Dan Beckman-Moon's songwriting. I keep thinking of Neil Young's earliest solo tunes, particularly 'Sugar Mountain,' as a sort of spiritual touchstone, although truthfully the music doesn't really sound anything like that. Still, the emotional core of the material has a similar sweetness and simplicity, while managing to steer clear of mawkishness with a nimble delicacy that parallel's Neil's early work. I have come to think of Valley of Spaces as a collaborative effort between Dan and his partner, Amy Moon, but this album often feels much more like Dan's solo effort. Amy definitely shows up in spots, but I miss the weird edge she brings to everything she does. I mean, there's a reason she was one of the first people Chris Corsano picked when he was putting together the original Ecstatic Yod crew back in the '90s -- her off-kilter perspective adds depth and subtle strangeness to her entire oeuvre. The same is often true of Dan as well (he was in Impractical Cockpit, after all), but That's Understanding has a purist hippie quality that owes karmic debts to the waves and hills of Santa Cruz, where Villages was based for the Plague Years (the years during which this music was written and recorded.) Most of Villages's avant proclivities are put on-hold this time. And whether or not that was the plan, this decision provides a folky balm for the last few lost years. Amy, Caleb Mulkerin (Big Blood), Don Godwin (Impractical Cockpit), and others -- especially violinist Kaethe Hostetter -- add to the gentle vibes that abound on this album. It's a set of music that bears up to many repeated spins. A very charming slice, for sure." --Byron Coley, 2023

ELSEWHERE, SOFA Fake Yourself 2LP
Fake Yourself is an act of revolt as much as it is a celebration of life and an expression of human alienation. As usual in most of his work, soFa here reflects musical contrasts and contradictions as our existence so often does. It's about sadness and joy, ups and downs and the fine line which connects them to tell a story. Fake Yourself comes as a spontaneous output of an artist escaping a scene of which the constant superficiality is unavoidable. Mistakes and unusual production with a strong DIY flavor are a conscious choice to keep the spontaneity vibing. A pure and direct self, exploring a realm of sound with sharp curiosity, emotion, and humor. Where simplicity and complexity marry. soFa leaves all boundaries behind and lets many of his influences confluence to find his very own sound. One can feel it is a very personal exploration which shines in its authenticity. Unconsciously or not, traces of IDM, disco, new beat, dub, and Krautrock cross heavenly paths and get augmented with ironic vocals and his hypnotic signature basslines. Everything seems to make sense, to fill the chapters of an adventurous short novel. A man shaping and finding his authentic sound and take you to this journey of his very own "style-no-style". All tunes were improvised, recorded, and arranged within ten days in a wooden cabin, isolated in the middle of nature in Alentejo/Portugal in spring 2022. This album was not meant to happen. No overdubs.

CHORDS UK, THE Somewhere Beyond The Rainbow 10"
The Chords UK are back in action with a new EP that keeps the bar high when it comes to punk-influenced power pop. The title track of the EP was originally composed and worked on in 1985 for the Arista label, with the collaboration in production of Tony James (Generation X, Chelsea). It finally remained unreleased and is now, at last, seeing the light of day, re-imagined, re-arranged and re-recorded. It's a fearsome shock of rock and roll rhythm and sharp, angular guitars with more than a nod to late '70's The Clash, all wrapped up in infectious vocal harmonies and anthemic choruses. "Veronica Jones" is a new mix of the celebrated cut from the band's 2022 album Big City Dreams. This track was born as a punchy modern folk song, as it tells the story of a girl who is clearly out to have a good time, but this version is elevated with a garage rock approach, ably assisted by the keyboard talents of Mick Talbot, formerly of The Style Council and Merton Parkas. "Before Elvis" has its origins in a 2014 demo that eventually remained unreleased and is a raging rock track with a Stones-style beat and amps pushed to the limit. The EP closes with "All I Want is Everything" a high-tempo rock and roll reworking of the song that previously appeared on their 2018 album Nowhere Land, with the bass-driven beat rising several notches as the guitar screams and wails.

BELLOFATTO & GENTILE Night Swim LP
Night Swim is the debut LP from Bellofatto & Gentile, a collaboration that was founded on the soccer fields of Austin, Texas during the spring of 2019. The duo of Giovanni Bellofatto (an alias of Jesse Edwards) and Dan Gentile initially started exploring the melodies and textures of Italian dream house, but those experiments soon evolved to include modular synthesizers, breakbeats, and left-field samples. Bellofatto's work dates back to the '90s and has credits on albums by Jessica Bailiff (Kranky), Odd Nosdam (Anticon), and His Name Is Alive. In the early '00s, he pioneered acoustic/electronic territories with his psychedelic project Red Morning Chorus. With 20 years of DJing under his belt, Gentile released his first house music productions as Time Zones in 2019 on Mystery Zone Records, with subsequent singles on Bay Area Disco and Moiss Music. The legend John Beltran provides mixing treatments on half of Night Swim that will be released on Prins Thomas's balearic imprint Horisontal Mambo in 2023.

A jazzy bassline, snazzy piano keys and a rhythmical vocal send hips swinging and shoulders shaking in "Gomera", a track which Chicagoan legend Roy Davis Jr. then remixes with a "Chitown Vibe". Squelchy synths and organic percussion enter his version with a stylish swagger, maintaining the keys while moving the vocals to the back of the mix. Next up, "Bumpa" is built for the dancefloor, an infectious groove forming the base for whimsical flute-like melodies, before "Soul Journey" closes out the record with a gorgeous slow-burning vision of sunset shores and distant views. Following on from his first Ona EP which dropped on kickin' up dust in March of 2023.

OLHAUSEN, HELEN Romperse LP
Art pop and experimental sounds in a sensitive, intimate experience. Helen Olhausen weaves mesmerizing vocals, hypnotic melodies, and minimalist beats. Romperse captures mystical, transformative songs, casting a new Uruguayan music atmosphere. Helen Olhausen, untethered by a single genre, combines her deep and ethereal voice with synthesizers, piano, strings, electronic elements, and human drums that sound like machines. In 2020, she released her debut album Romperse, a collection of 35 minutes divided into nine original creations. Her music explores diverse climates ranging from pop to electronic. Romperse tells the intimate, nostalgic, sensitive, and electric story that traverses the predictable rhythm that reaches the body in parallel with the unexpected and complex, as well as the nature of this element. Helen is a Uruguayan composer, singer, and producer from Salto (a city in northern Uruguay) who currently resides in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her music mesmerizes in its bold pursuit of experimentation and intimacy.

ASHLEY, ROBERT Automatic Writing CD
2023 restock; 1996 release. Automatic Writing compiles three early Robert Ashley works from 1967-79 -- some of his most experimental works. Composed in recorded form over a period of five years, "Automatic Writing", originally issued on Lovely Music in 1979, is the result of Robert Ashley's fascination with involuntary speech. He recorded and analyzed the repeated lines of his own mantra and extracted four musical characters. The result is a quiet, early form of ambient music. The piece rather famously formed the basis for Nurse With Wound's A Missing Sense (1997). Steven Stapleton's commentary on the recording: "A Missing Sense was originally conceived as a private tape to accompany my taking of LSD. When in that particular state, Robert Ashley's 'Automatic Writing' was the only music I could actually experience without feeling claustrophobic and paranoid. We played it endlessly; it seemed to become part of the room, perfectly blending with the late night city ambiance and the 'breathing' of the building." The piece features the voices of Ashley and Mimi Johnson, with electronics and Polymoog backing, with a switching circuit designed and built by Paul DeMarinis. "Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon" and "She Was A Visitor" are excerpts from an opera entitled "That Morning Thing", composed in 1966-67 as a result of Ashley's impulse to express something about the suicides of three friends. "Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon", originally issued in 1968, is a woman's description of a sexual experience. Ashley attempts "to demonstrate the dichotomy between the rational-whatever can be explained in words-and its opposite-which is not irrational or a-rational, but which cannot be explained in words." The lead voice performed by Cynthia Liddell, the processed back-up chorus, the recurring bell tone, and the pervading tape hiss, create an unsettling mood. "She Was a Visitor" was originally issued on the electronic compilation Extended Voices in 1967. It is another form of description, intended to be understood as a form of rumor. The chorus is divided into groups, each headed by a leader. A lone speaker repeats the title sentence throughout. The separate phonemes of this sentence are picked up freely by the group leaders and are relayed to the group members, who sustain them softly and for the duration of one natural breath. The time lag produces a staggered, chant-like effect, with the sounds moving outward from the nearest performer to the farthest. Booklet notes by Robert Ashley.

TELEGRAPH AVENUE Telegraph Avenue LP
The story of Telegraph Avenue, the Peruvian band whose name takes us back to the countercultural San Francisco of the sixties, began with guitarist, vocalist and composer Bo Ichikawa's journey of initiation to the United States in 1969. After attending many live shows of rock stars, including the emerging Latin artist Carlos Santana, Bo returned to Peru at the end of 1969 to form Telegraph Avenue with friends. They performed a repertoire that mixed the main branches of psychedelia with the novel Latin sounds of Santana. Thanks to their performances in discotheques, parties, school celebrations, festivals and across different regions of the country, including the historic Pop Festival in Lima where they played alongside Traffic Sound and El Polen in the style of the Woodstock movie, they quickly gained a devoted audience. This success led them to the MAG record label, where they began to record the eight songs on their debut album with lyrics in English, but which fans were very familiar with as they were part of the band's usual repertoire at gigs. Delays in MAG's production probably led to Manuel Guerrero, owner of the label, rushing the final mixing which was completed without the band's approval while they traveled to play in Cusco. In fact, they only found out about the release when they heard "Something Going" playing on the radio back in Lima. Their 1971 debut LP sold out in days thanks to the band's constant touring outside Lima and the LP's striking cover design. All the songs on the album are so strong that were released as singles and several more were left on the back burner, forming part of Telegraph Avenue's next LP. Despite the success of the album the group disbanded soon after.

VA Lost Innocence: Garpax 1960s Punk & Psych 2LP
Vintage garage rock is only one of the many tributaries of popular music that the maverick Gary S. Paxton recorded and produced in his 1960s heyday, and compared to other genres, the off-kilter genius behind "Alley Oop" and "Monster Mash" was hardly prolific with it. But for a producer-engineer of his repute, it was inevitable that Paxton would cross paths with the sudden surge of teenaged rock groups that emerged in the wake of the British Invasion. Munster has gathered the best of them on Lost Innocence, and for any aficionado of the genre, a treat is in store. As well as a brace of acknowledged Californian punk classics present and correct for the first time direct from master tape, this rockin' little disc also shares further booty from the Garpax vaults, including some obscurities well worthy of re-appraisal, along with completely unreleased nuggets of note. Counting among the well-known are the Avengers, Ken & the Forth Dimension, Limey & the Yanks, Whatt Four, and the Buddhas. Most of the material on Lost Innocence was recorded at Paxton's two Hollywood studios between 1965 and 1967, but some of the freakier cuts derive from facilities he ran from a converted bank in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale in the last three years of the decade. In the commercial environs of mid-1960s Hollywood, the producer remained omnipotent and Paxton would happily call on his seasoned session crew if you weren't cutting it, musically speaking. On "Lost Innocence", however, most of the players remained those same wide-eyed teenagers that had been ushered into his presence. Compiled by genre expert Alec Palao and originally released by Big Beat/ACE on CD only a few years back, it is now available on vinyl for the first time. Also featuring The Fog, The New Wing, Mental Institution, Don Hinson, The Chocolate Tunnel, and Carl Walden & The Humans.

PETS, THE The Pets LP
This is one of the most obscure records ever released in Venezuela in the '60s and the only recording of The Pets. It followed the global triumph of the Beatles that made the wave of beat groups gets bigger and bigger and lots of new bands emerged, some of which would last while others would definitively go into oblivion, and a small number of them would leave at least one recording that today is considered a highly valuable collector's item. This is the case of The Pets. Originally, they were not called The Pets, but The Playboys, and basically the group was formed to liven up the parties and gatherings at Casa Italia, a very important institution in Los Teques, near Caracas, where they formed. At one of these parties, they were heard by a representative of the Discomoda label who insisted on recommending the group to the company, completing the signing of their contract almost immediately. This 1967 album shows perfectly what the influences of the Venezuelan nueva ola (new wave) scene were at the time, including versions of The Doors, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Paul Revere & The Riders -- as well as the outstanding original "El Entierro De Un Hombre Rico Que Murio De Hambre," one of the finest garage tunes to emerge from Latin America. First time reissue, audios remastered from the original master tapes. First time reissue, audios remastered from the original tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl.

BEGGERS, THE Metamorfose 7"
"The Beggers were formed in the industrial ABC Paulista region, the birthplace of the Brazilian punk rock scene. But many years before that, The Beggers were already a kind of proto-punk act, as can be heard on the first track of this 7" record, 'Estes Homens Farrapos,' a rather unusual social commentary song in those flower power days. Considered a protest song, it ended up being censored. However, the most psychedelic and experimental track is 'We're Going, to Aid You,' a song about a fictional alien invasion. The creepy effects created by the group in the studio can be compared to those by the greatest international bands of the time. The Beggers only had three original compositions and a fourth one was missing to complete the EP. This was how 'We're Going, to Aid You' was eventually created as an experiment in the studio, just to complete the record. With Metamorfose banned from the shops, the members of The Beggers were running out of money, and without any gigs they had no other choice but to break up the band shortly after the release of their mighty EP." --Bento Araujo (author of the book series Lindo Sonho Delirante)An amazing example of genuine teenage garage rock from '60s Brazil reissued for the first time, as result of a collaboration between Discos Nada, Fatiado and Munster Records.

GATOS MALUCOS Sem Ver O Luar 7"
Unearthing a forgotten chapter in Brazil's musical scene, Gatos Malucos emerges as an enigmatic garage/psychedelic band from the small city of Limera, in the S?o Paulo countryside. Comprising friends aged 14 to 16, Gatos Malucos combined their admiration for iconic acts like the Beatles and Yardbirds with an unmistakable Brazilian essence. Years later, two band members went on to form the amazing proto-punk band Loyce e os Gnomos. "I literally went crazy. I became a fanatic for the Beatles and proceeded on collecting everything related to them. Records, clothes, newspaper clippings and magazines and song lyrics. Even the Gretsch guitar, similar to the model that George Harrison played, I had the opportunity to pick up in the US. Then when the movies came up, it was pure bliss. The mood was set and, to assemble our band, it was a no brainer. After all, the music flowed harmoniously through our veins." OLAYA SOUND SYSTEM Suenan Los Olaya LP
Olaya Sound System was founded in Chorrillos, Lima (Peru), in 2009 and since then they have developed a very particular exploration of the sounds of Andean cumbia and chicha, with elements of psychedelia, reggae and Afro-Latin rhythms of global relevance, projecting with its music an innovative new chapter in the development of Peruvian tropical music of the 21st century. Both on the dance floor and in meditative listening, Olaya Sound System take us with this LP on a journey through bucolic landscapes of the Andes, the Amazon and the infinite Pacific Ocean, essential locations that constitute their native Peru and that have inspired very perceptibly their sound. This album, the band's first release on vinyl, comprising some of their most outstanding productions recorded between 2015 and 2022. Cultivators of a very particular tropical musical style, they collect and adapt the Peruvian traditions of the cumbia, chicha and huayno genres, and then blend them with a melting pot of contemporary Latin and global influences such as reggae, salsa, rock, among others. Emerging from the Peruvian independent scene, Olaya Sound System reflect relevant social topics in its lyrics, such as the search for individual and collective consciousness, with a strong content of social issues. The band has become, from their native Peru, in one of the most interesting projects that modernize tropical music today, just like groups like Chico Trujillo, Frente Cumbiero, or Son Rompe Pera, are also doing from different Latin-American territories, reaching a global impact.

GUIDED BY VOICES Propeller LP
2023 repress; LP version. "Propeller was the fifth album by Guided By Voices, and was intended to be the group's last. Released as a limited edition of 500 LPs in 1992, the album featured handmade covers and blank labels to keep expenses as low as possible. Their other albums hadn't sold much, why would this one? Robert Pollard had a family to support and his musical aspirations had not exactly been a boon to their bank account. As fate would have it, the band wound up releasing an album chock full of gems Pollard had stockpiled, and for the first time sounded distinctly like the band that fans have since come to love. Propeller also marks the return of Tobin Sprout to the GBV fold, along with an increased songwriting presence. From anthem-to-be 'Over the Neptune' to the effortless melodies of closer 'On the Tundra,' Propeller is a hell of a ride, and remains one of the most important albums in the band's discography. The vinyl edition has been out of print for a decade, and features different cover art than previous pressings. The CD edition has been out of print for a minute as well, and is now housed in digipak format, also with a new, unique cover from one of the original pressings. RUDIMENTARY PENI Cacophony LP
Restocked; LP version. Reissue, originally released in 1988. Cacophony is the second Rudimentary Peni album. Released after the band returned from their first hiatus following a series of personal events that changed the band forever. The thirty-track LP keeps turning heads 34 years after its release. Far from writing another Death Church, the band embarked on a truly bizarre quest -- to record an album based on the life and writings of horror's absolute king H.P. Lovecraft. A dense cacophony of total free songwriting. Dark, gothic, intricate, unexpected head-scratching punk. The short bursts of music twist and turn at every corner -- the vocals are part classic Blinko and part spoken word, the guitar is full of distorted awkward tones and the very inventive bass and drums are locked together creating a truly unique album. Cacophony is the benchmark of outsider punk and the influence and cult nature of this album grows with every passing year. This reissue stays close to the original version, with Nick Blinko's incredible cover art, including a 11" x 11" eight-page lyric booklet.

CARROLL, BAIKIDA Orange Fish Tears LP
Restocked; LP version. Eight-page booklet with rare and unpublished photos. Heavyweight 180-gram LP. In 1972, trumpeter Baikida Carroll and some of his colleagues from the Black Artists Group (more precisely saxophonist/flutist Oliver Lake, trombonist Joseph Bowie, drummer Charles "Bobo" Shaw and trumpeter Floyd LeFlore) took the advice of their friends in the Art Ensemble Of Chicago and left their native Missouri to come and discover the bright lights of Paris for themselves. The following year they would even get the chance to record their only album which would rapidly attain mythical status and a collector's item: In Paris, Aries 1973. Therefore, it was not surprising that they crossed paths with Jef Gilson, who offered Baikida Carroll the chance to record his first album under his own name. Carroll logically asked Oliver Lake to join him. He also recruited Manuel Villaroel, a young Franco-Chilien pianist from the group Matchi-Oul, who had already released an album on Futura in 1971 and would release another on Palm in 1976. The group was completed with the addition of Brazilian percussionist Nan? Vasconcelos, who had just released a well-received album on the Saravah label. The first side of the album is divided into two long tracks which send free jazz back to its long-lost African roots. The opener "Orange Fish Tears" indeed rolls out a jungle of percussion of all sorts and sizes -- the whole group is involved -- which weave and mix together reaching a point where all bearings are lost, lending a sense of wonder to the majestic entry of the brass and woodwinds, flying suddenly out from the undergrowth. "Forest Scorpion" (sic) is a real voodoo ceremony where a venomous percussive groove backs the fiery solos from keyboards and saxophone in a furious trance. The other side is more introspective. Deliberately using dissonance and repetition, "Rue Roger" -- the only composition by Oliver Lake -- in a long dialogue between trumpet and saxophone, could almost remind us of Terry Riley in his favorite ballpark. "Porte D'Orl?ans", the fourth and final track on the album, has the group back to their old tricks in a long hallucinatory jam which owes as much to the contemporary music of Gy?rgy Ligetias to the most angst-ridden Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack music. With these two sides, and in under 45m, Baikida Carroll and his musicians show just what they can do, from cerebral to charnel without ever simplifying things. RIYL: Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sonic Youth, Shabaka Hutchings, and Rob Mazurek.

Originally released as a picture disc in 1986, this is D-Day's first LP, presenting a beautiful mix of minimal synth, new wave, and bossa nova. The band was formed in October 1982 and became well-known in the Japanese indie scene. They spent over 200 hours in the studio for recording. At that time, even for major label bands, it didn't take that much time to record an album. However, as D-DAY was not a major label band, they were free to craft their own narrative. Thus, they had a lot of time to experiment with their dreamy melodies, whisper-like vocals, programmed beats, and swirling guitars. A unique album!

TIGER & WOODS DJs On Film 12"
Sometimes you go to take a step back to go forward. What sounds like a Ferris Bueller quote and can be as easily applied as a seatbelt, also holds true for the long over-due and outright return of Tiger & Woods. Four tracks that are as classic as they are catchy and as simple as the monochrome label that carries their titles. Drawing conclusions from an extended period as a DJ team and before going back to their esteemed and critically acclaimed live set, it's all made for dance floors and with their conductors in mind. Going back to their roots, it marks the start of a series with raw takes and an authentic aesthetic. The job of feet is walking, but their hobby is dancing. "Sue Me" and "License To Vibe" (featuring long-time collaborator 'Em) sound like they were ripped straight from an unreleased Editainment reel. On the other side, "Chicken Bone" and "16 Red" are even straighter on the DJ tip: turning French house Italian. Powerful and punchy. No samples were harmed during the filming of this record!

Martinou lands on Turbo for the very first time, as the Swedish producer connects with Tiga's Montreal-based label following years of mutual admiration. His melancholic sound, dripping in masterfully balanced tones, continues to impact both heady at-home listeners and season club dancers. A pair of albums on Rotterdam's Nous'Klaer Audio have both been on constant rotation throughout the Turbo community, thus adding to the widespread excitement for Martinou's debut on the imprint. The Sheltered Planet is a four-track record at the cross-section of Martinou's bespoke sound and Turbo's historic techno influence. The aptly titled opener "Getting Into It" elevates senses through an exploitative and rising soundscape, flowing right into the beat-driven house cut "I Told You We'd Make It"; crisp drum programming opens way to soaring melodics, with a deeply analog feel to the A2 groover. On the flip, Martinou effortlessly glides through another movement-laden melody, as "Exhilaration" turns the dial ever-so-slightly towards the Swede's take on a peak-time selection ? "The Offering." Rounded yet punchy synth lines ebb and flow from the distance, oozing into the groove by the time the break lifts brings us to the EP's crescendo; a masterful dance track for the finest of dance parties.

EL CLAN ANTILLANO El Clan Antillano LP
El Clan Antillano was an obscure, short-lived salsa group started in 1975 by singer Jacky "El Caballo" Carazo, originally from Cartagena, and radio host/song composer Mike Char, from Barranquilla. This is their first album and was recorded with local studio musicians. It's been said that most on the first album were from Fruko Y Sus Tesos (the voice of Joe Arroyo can be heard on coro) as well as others involved with various groups like La Protesta (de Colombia) and Juan Pi?a's La Revelaci?n. Three bonus tracks have been added to the album as it was originally very short. Interestingly, there were four songs from two 45 singles cut by the band that were never included on either long play. While the ephemeral El Clan Antillano may not be as well-known as the groups it's related to, namely El Afrocombo and Fruko Y Sus Tesos, it certainly deserves credit as a worthy participant in the historical evolution of salsa colombiana. First time reissue. 180g vinyl.

LYONS, MARIE QUEENIE Soul Fever LP
It is perhaps apropos that Queenie Marie Lyons's best known song is titled "See And Don't See." For all the acclaim that song has accrued, and all the times it has been compiled, reissued and bootlegged, Queenie herself has somehow remained unseen. How did a singer from Ashtabula, Ohio record one of the great female-led soul albums and then simply fall off the map, never to record or perform again? While on tour with James Brown for only a month or so, when the group reached Cincinnati in mid-'68 she entered the King Records studio there to record what would become Soul Fever. The songs were a combination of covers, some of which she'd been doing in her live shows, like "Fever" and "Try Me," and originals written by producer Henry Glover and pianist Don Pullen, who was the bandleader on the session. The album opener, "See And Don't See," was also recorded by the veteran R&B singer Maxine Brown, but Queenie's version blows hers away. Soul Fever is a supremely funky and soulful affair, with Queenie's powerful and captivating voice magnetically attractive, with an urgency that is impossible to ignore. "Your Thing Ain't No Good Without My Thing," "Your Key Don't Fit It Anymore," and "I Don't Want Nobody To Have It But You" are as funky and soulful as the best of Tina Turner and Aretha -- a statement not to be made lightly! The album was critically acclaimed -- the October 10, 1970, issue of Billboard listed it as their sole "four star" pick in the soul category -- but perhaps due to the tumult at Starday-King, whose stewardship had turned over several times in only a few years, it never seemed to be able to break through to a larger audience.

PRINCIPE Y SU SEXTETO Salsa De Guaguanco LP
Hard salsa with rocking tropical electric guitar. Pr?ncipe y Su Sexteto, from Caracas, Venezuela, were early pioneers of "salsa con guitarra el?ctrica" (salsa with electric guitar), a subset of the salsa genre where the electric guitar is the main melodic rhythm instrument, often taking the spotlight in place of the piano and brass section. They were the perfect combination arriving at the right moment, when salsa spontaneously emerged as a new musical movement coming from working-class youth of the barrios in Caracas. Pr?ncipe's 1967 debut album, featuring powerful Afro-Latin rhythms like guaguanc? and pachanga played with youthful exuberance and originality. Truly unique sound from the dawn of salsa in Venezuela. All the compositions are original to the band, and hold up really well more than 50 years later. Though the arrangements and playing are deceptively simple, the effect is both mesmerizing and energizing, like early rock and roll fed through a Caribbean filter. This first-time reissue has been remastered directly from the original tapes and licensed from Discomoda; it has also been augmented by three smoking bonus tracks that were never released during Pr?ncipe y Su Sexteto's existence as a band. Features in-depth liner notes and augmented by three smoking bonus tracks. 180g vinyl.

VA Chicas! Vol. 3 2LP
The Vampisoul Chicas! are back. And for the third time. And, although collectors and connoisseurs have never stopped playing the songs by these Spanish female singers, here they are again, sounding as vibrant as they did half a century ago. Because these children of their times, the musical decades of the '60s and '70s covered by this compilation, boldly ventured into the limited spaces of freedom open to female artists back then. And they did so with attitude, in search of the right repertoire, proudly presenting new, daring personal projects often breaking away from the demure tone adopted by mainstream local female singers. And they were canny about it too. Realizing that the censors working back would just listen to the song that the record company flagged up as the listening target on the A side and not bother to flip the single over, they recorded many of their racier songs on the B side. That exciting dark side of singles, which have long tempted collectors. Lacking the freedom and visibility enjoyed today, these daring records by these female singers went as far as they could and a few managed to go beyond. The songs on this compilation tell everyday stories, narrating small socio-musical conquests revolving round the enduring theme of young love. Sass, sex, boy-girl rivalry, the defense of liberating women's fashion and, saying what women think loud and clear, all characterize these grooves. Performed in a variety of musical styles ranging from ye-y?, twist, disco, beat, popcorn, flamenco pop to Northern Soul, and, even more surprisingly, sung in an everyday, natural and self-assured tone that must have ruffled some feathers. As in previous volumes of Chicas!, this third compilation includes female singers from outside Spain but whose career, their decision to sing in Spanish or their long tours and local stays, and occasionally permanent residence, meant their albums were created, recorded or produced here in Spain. It's a winning proposition for everyone. Many of the 24 tracks are reissued for the first time, including very hard-to-find records. It includes extensive notes by Vicente Fabuel featuring all the original record sleeves and artist photos. Featuring Enterprise, Gelu, Mary Gema, Sonia, Marion, Los Antifaces, Chocolate Menta Mastik, Cecilia, Sylvia Nelson, Hermanas Ros, Suzie, Mar?a Jos? Cantudo, Soledad Miranda, Teresa Mar?a, Los Zarmatyseis, Franciska, Marian Conde, Elvira, Dolly, Eros, Rosa Morena, Albertina Cort?s, Nena Catherine, and Doris Y Rossie.

CUARTETO YEMAYA El Tic Tac LP
The guitarist Francisco "Pancho" Acosta Angeles (1946) played a significant role in spreading love for Cuban rhythms across Peru, those sunshine beats breaking through the cloudiness that hangs over Lima most of the year, as the city bears a closer resemblance weather wise to London than to Havana. In 1967, after making a name for himself with his six-stringed skill, he made his vinyl debut with Compay Quinto. Shortly after Pancho left Company Quinto, he joined Los Kintos. When Los Kintos disbanded, Pancho Acosta swiftly moved on to his next project for MAG: the Cuarteto Yemay?, formed by tumba drummer and singer Miguel Montoya, bassist M?ximo Pecho and timba drummer Jos? Luis Fiallega, all under Pancho's direction and arrangements. The quartet's debut album, Ecos del Trio Matamoros, was a tribute to the Cuban trio of the title and comprised cover versions as well as a couple of their own songs. This is the quartet's second LP, recorded between July and August 1971. El Tic Tac contains mostly Peruvian songs. The foreign versions on the album include the classic "Compay Gallo," written by Miguel Matamoros; "Toribio carambola" and "El Tic Tac," from the repertoire of the Cuban Trio Servando Diaz; and "Sandungu?ate," best known in Celia Cruz's version. "Oye Mi Son" and "Oye Mi Guitarra" were composed by the album's lead vocalist, Miguel Montoya. Percussionist Jorge Mariazza (Los Pachas, Manzanita y su Conjunto) co-wrote "Descarga Yemay?" with Pancho, which features outstanding conga and timbales playing. Pancho also composed tracks on his own: "Me Voy a Monsef?," "Mi Provinciana," "Yo Me Voy de Aqu?" and "Flaca y Fea," the latter with a Beatle-like intro where his Japanese electric guitar reaches vertiginous heights (he never used sound effects in his recordings). Cuarteto Yemay? released one more album for MAG. In 1973 Los Kintos reformed, with the addition of the bass, percussionist and guitarist from Cuarteto Yemay?. Pancho Acosta has continued his career as a composer and arranger to this day.

SONORA DE LUCHO MACEDO/LA LOGIA SARABANDA Guayaba 7"
Our series of tropical 45s aimed to shake up the dance floors presents two incredible versions of one of the best songs ever composed by maestro Tito Puente: Guayaba. In the late 1950s, rock'n roll shook the foundations of music in Peru, and orchestras rushed to cover hit songs and explore the possibilities of mixing them with tropical music. Lucho Macedo followed this trend, even many years later. In 1972 his version of "Guayaba" was published, combining elements of the emerging Chicano rock sound, popularized internationally by bands like Santana or Malo, blended with a Latin flavor loaded with elements of mambo, son montuno, boogaloo. Timbales and distorted guitars shaking hands in this very dance floor friendly version. La Logia Sarabanda would arrive all the way from Rio de la Plata but -- despite their origin -- they'd release their records exclusively in Peru and Mexico. Their only single opened with another very interesting version of "Guayaba" that highlights the sounds of fierce and psychedelic guitars while keeping the Latin essence of the original song. First time single reissue!
