What is there to say about this program? Well, if your an obsessive who
loves to know everything about a particular subject, then this program
will definitely appeal. If you're not, then you probably don't have a
record collection and aren't worth talking to.
This series delves into the real Andy Warhol, not just his public
persona, and seeks to cover all his artistic styles (not just the more
famous ones). We discover why and how he produced many of his pieces. We
learn intimate details about his life. There are interviews with
colleagues, lovers, brothers and others.
As with many British shows, the tone is neutral to positive -
subliminally reverential, without being sickeningly sycophantic.
The great thing about this program is the breadth of issues covered. In
the first episode we've seen from his parents' country of origin and
Andy's childhood, through his years working as a commercial artist to
his first shows. All this with examples of his work and plenty of
background details of his private life.
In short, this is a fascinating study of one of the most talented
artists of the 20th century. Even if you think that you don't like
Warhol's art, you should watch - he certainly was a fascinating person,
and you may discover some of his less-often shown (in mainstrean media)
work more appealing to you. -
