Big Soup, the first album released
under Luke Vibert's own name, has a very noticeable and sometimes very annoying theme:
space travel. When the theme is overlooked, the songs are all pretty good. Vibert's lack
of real innovation keeps the album from 3.5 or 4 stars; if you know his work, the album is
pretty predictable. Overall, though, it's not bad. |

This EP/single is the most funked up
hip-hop I may have ever heard. I cannot begin to describe how awesome "Dance
Music" is; "Do Unto Others" is pretty groovy, too. |

This album took me a while to get used to,
but once I came around I loved it. Plug uses long intros, b-movie samples, and strange
sounds to compile ten superb tracks. Not as upbeat and funky as Versatile, but
maybe a little more emotional and complex. |

I don't know about this one. It's pretty weird, even for the Lukester. The beats are all
over the place and the melodies are colder, more electronic sounding. "Cheesy",
"3.41", and "7.10" are the best tracks, but in no way are they
Vibert's best. 1 & 2 are definitely brilliant works, but they're also hard to
groove to. |

Plug plays more funk here than in D 'n' B for Papa and adds elements of groove, jazz, and dance to top it off.

"Lovely" is a nice 3-track compilation of Wagon Christ tracks. The video can be viewed

The first single from Tally Ho! doesn't have the humor as the album, but it has some great funky
tracks. "Filthy Drummer" samples James Brown's "Funky Drummer".

As you can see by my ratings, the first
half of this album is excellent. Actually, it's almost perfect. I don't think it would be
possible to make the first seven tracks any better. This is the epitome of good electronic
funk 'n' jazz. After the first seven songs, the albums trails off a little, not having
quite as much focus or intensity. Although I still gave the album four stars, Vibert does
not do the album any favors with "Pull My Strings" or "Intermission."
Just skip them when you play the CD.
