Overall impression: good, but disappointing. Despite being billed by Tone Casualties as a "mega collaboration" between Key (Skinny Puppy/Download/Plateau) and Paris (Christian Death/Shadow Project/EXP), word has it that Key actually had very little to do with the music on this cd (ie this is really just Paris with a bit of help from Key). Despite the exaggerated nature of this collaboration by Tone Casualties, Involution has a very Key oriented project sound and feel to it, much like Key's "Music for Cats": raw, lo-fi instrumental keyboard/sample/beats/effects meanderings. The music is fairly minimal, more experimental than dance-y, some tracks more intriguing than others (some just kind of plunk along for 4 minutes and never really develop, others are more "song-like"). My favorites right now are "Clairaudience", "Acid Clambake", "Blind Timefold" and "Habeeb Hair" which all remind me of Download. Several others are more in a Plateau vein, only more bizarre and less dance friendly. If you liked "Music for Cats", you'll more than likely dig this one. Myself, I'm waiting for another true Key project to blow me away again, which he hasn't done since the last Download cd ...
