Maurizio is one of several artists from Berlin's Chain Reaction label who effortlessly blends together dub, house and ambiance in a minimal Detroit techno package. This disc, which comes in a metal tin (typical for CR releases), compiles edits of tracks from the M Series of 12"s from 1995 to 1997. From what I own of the CR catalog (see also Monolake "Hongkong", Rhythm & Sound w/Tikiman "Showcase", Various Artists "Decay Product" and Basic Channel "Metal Box") Maurizio is the most upbeat and 'techno' of the lot. However, this isn't your mindless brand of 'techno' ... this is music made with great attention to detail (an occasional listen with headphones is highly recommended) despite it's repetitive nature. Washes of sound and subtle changes in and around the bass and beat help create a sense of time and space that makes these tracks breathe with life ... and makes you want to get up and dance ...
