Overall impression: good. This cd is 1 of 2 Japanese import only EPs (the
other being "Prime
Evil") that accompany the 1997 album, "Wrecked".
Of the 8 tracks, 3 are new, 2 (No One.. and Contempt) are from Wrecked
and the rest are remixes of tracks from Wrecked. New stuff first. Jump
the Gun is yet another nicely done guitar/big beat driven track complete
with goofy Watts lyrics such as "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, Kill, Come!"
Satanic Panic is a so-so instrumental (save for the cliche preacher samples)
that sounds a bit dated to my ears, not sure when it was recorded though.
The Murder Car is a soothing keyboard only ambient drone piece, the sort
of track that's been missing since the 1996 album "Sinsation".
Now, the remixes. KMFDM strips No One.. down to a minimal funky beat, electronics
and vox with no guitar. The Sniper remix of Contempt is pretty much brand
new d 'n b instrumental song that borrows a few guitar and vocal loops
from the original. The Sump Mix of Find It.. sounds about the same as the
album version to me. As usual, Pig does a great job of fusing together
electronics / guitars / samples. The remixes, none of which I'd consider
better than the original tracks, still make for good listening. I can't
help but wish that the 2 EPs were combined into 1 cd, losing some of the
weaker remixes and all of the album tracks. Oh well. If I had to pick just
one of the EPs, I'd go with "Prime
Evil", all though "Jump the Gun" is probably my favorite
of the non-album tracks. Once again, the photography and layout by Stephen
Lowell-Davis and Michael Coulson looks great. Unfortunately, the 2 EPs
are only available as imports (read=expensive! $20 apiece, but very, very
fast mail order) Yoshi from
