Overall impression: good. This cd is 1 of 2 Japanese import only EPs (the other being "No One Gets Out of Her Alive") that accompany the 1997 album, "Wrecked". Of the 7 tracks, we have 3 new songs (Prime Evil, War Pigs, The Keeper..) and 4 remixes of songs from Wrecked. New stuff first. Prime Evil is a typical '97 era Pig song, guitar/bass/big beat driven track that would fit right in on Wrecked. Typical somewhat tongue in cheek Watts lyrics too: "Don't you wanna kneel? Don't you wanna to suck it? Don't you wanna to feel it? Don't you wanna to fuck it?" War Pigs is a cover of the classic Sabbath tune, done Pig style via female backup vox and chants of "War Pigs!" over a mess of guitars and beats. The Keeper.. is more of a slower, laid back, mostly instrumental track: big bass groove, whispered vox by Raymond, crashing drums and killer orchestral samples near the end! Now, for the remixes. The Ishii remix of Wrecked gives it a d 'n b treatment as it re-arranges and adds samples, adds breakdowns and uses subdued guitar tracks to nice effect. The Pig remix of Everything is the best of the lot. The song is completely de-constructed and pieced back together with lots of nice vocal effects added to the mix. The Locust remix of Save Me is pretty much indistinguishable from the original other than the vocal loops that are placed over either ambient samples or throbbing Aphex Twin style beats. The Euphonic remix of Silt is a downtempo d 'n b instrumental that also has little in common with the original track. As usual, Pig does a great job of fusing together electronics / guitars / samples on this one. The remixes, none of which I'd consider better than the original tracks, make for good listening too. I can't help but wish that the 2 EPs were combined into 1 cd, losing some of the weaker remixes and all of the album tracks. Oh well. If I had to pick just one of the EPs, I'd go with "Prime Evil". Cool photography and layout once again by Stephen Lowell-Davis and Michael Coulson. Unfortunately, the 2 eps are available only as imports no thanks to TVT Reocords (read=expensive! $20 apiece, but very, very fast mail order) Yoshi from Blue Noise Ltd is the man to get in touch with for all your Pig product needs ...
