Not Breathing "Crash and Burn" (5:37)Yeah, just what we need ... yet another tribute cd! It was bound to eventually happen and since Fifth Column croaked before it could finish the job, Invisible has come through with the finished product. I'm much more forgiving with a tribute disc for Ministry than, say, Skinny Puppy (see "Remix Dys Temper"), but still ... this sucks. The covers here range from the "With Sympathy" synth-pop era up to 1996's "Filth Pig", the majority covering up to 1986's "Twitch". It's nice to hear 'updated' re-interpretations of those older synth-pop/electronic tunes, but in my opinion everything from "With Sympathy" sucked to begin with. You can't polish a turd. As for the other tracks, I much prefer the originals over any of these covers. But, it's not a total loss: the Meg Lee Chin, Here (a cover of a cover of the Dylan tune), Julian Beeston and Not Breathing tracks all get a thumbs up. Those 4 are at least interesting, well done covers. The Pig, TRS-80 and Hate Dept tracks are also decent. The rest is really wretched. One cool bonus is a small mail order form that comes with the cd that you can send to Invisible to get a small chunk of the cage from the 1989-90 Ministry tour. They will probably regret that idea! Rumor has it vol. 2 is in the works. Yikes ...
